Speaker 1 (00:56):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Lots going on? Lot's going on?
Speaker 3 (00:58):
What a sports weekend? It's going to be around these parts.
Some of it involving, you know, watching television games going
on elsewhere, but we're also interested in the World series
starting tomorrow involving with Blue Jays and Canada's favorite team
I think, and the Dodgers, Lions and Saskatchewan Lions win.
(01:20):
They host a playoff game, white Caps hosting Dallas, and yes,
Per Sorenson is going to join us later on in
this show. White Caps. That's game one of a best
of three. Of course, they lost to Dallas. Last game
of the regular season Decision Day last Saturday, white Caps
were down to ten man. Canucks hosts the Habs sat Well.
They host, first of all, the finish off with the
(01:41):
Predators tonight, but in terms of home games, they host
the Havebs Saturday. Then they're right back at it a
Sunday against the Oiters, and then there's the NFL and
maybe you want to bet on the NBA. So a
lot of things going on in the world of sports.
Did you hear about this story?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
The NBA stop this morning, So I'm in chalk.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
FBI gambling crackdown. Two NBA employees have been arrested as
part of a wave of arrests. Thirty plus people arrested
in this gambling crackdown. Trailblazer's head coach Chancey Billups apparently
(02:25):
involved in underground poker games backed by the mafia. And
then you've got Miami heat guard Terry Rosier accused of
taking part in an illegal sports betting scheme with insider information.
You can read this tweet here from ABC News.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Yeah so, Portland Trailblazer's head coach Chancey Billups has been
charged in an illegal poker operation tied to the mafia.
Law enforcement sources have told ABC News Miami heat guard
Terry Rosarier Rosier arrested in a separate but related case.
And Donnie, there's another guy too, former Vancouver Grizzly Damon Jones.
(03:06):
His name's out there as well.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
March twenty third, twenty twenty three. Rosier again, this is
all allegedly, but allegedly allegedly left the game early playing
for the heat, affecting prop bets regarding his points, rebounds,
and assists. I'm guessing the undergot a lot of action.
(03:31):
And look, thirty plus people have been arrested. It seems like, oh,
I would guess that a lot of people are singing.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Oh yeah, right, to save their bacon. There you go,
to save their own bacon. Here's what I don't get
anything this goes. Let's not forget the Johntay Porter situation
with the Raptors, and that was a situation where my
understanding is is that there are some debts in And
I don't know if that's just a situation here, but
(04:02):
it must be because I'm looking up Chauncey Phillips's career
earnings as a player as a coach over one hundred million,
one hundred and seven millions. Terry Rose here one hundred
and sixty million, of those guys doing like why would
you get involved in gambling unless you're having to that
(04:22):
extent just having financial issues where you ow someone who
you probably want to stay away from money. But Donnie,
did they not learn from Pete Rose? Like Pete Rose
was the first time. Well, you go back to the
Red Sox scandal way back when you know Babe Ruth
and all that. Wait, wait, White White Sox storry, you
go way back there. But Donnie, here's the other one.
(04:44):
Shane Pinto just got busted by the NHL last year,
Like what are you guys doing? Like you can't hide
forever with this stuff. Very shocking that they would do.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
This or is it a situation where they can't help
themselves they're addicted? We all know the gambling can be
an addiction. So so there's that. And you know you've
got a couple of young boys, so do I. I'll
say it. These guys and they're my family has a
history of I talked to yesterday. My earliest my earliest
(05:18):
memory is my dad at the race track. Like him
and I went went to the racetrack. Remember it as
clear as clear as could be. I told my dad,
I'm four years old. Bet on number four. Well that
horse came in the last place.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Here go.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Well, they've made it so easy for kids now to
bet on your cell phone. Kids now can bet on
their cell phone in two seconds. It's too easy. It's addicting.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
And I'll tell you I thought those are most of
those kids, Rick, I'm guessing have not made one hundred
and sixty millions. But you don't want to. It's addictive.
And here's the other thing. Like a lot of things
that are addictive, they're fun.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
And I get that.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
And you hope that we're going in a million differ
and directions there. You just hope that somebody can get
to people early enough to know that, hey, you know this,
this isn't always a good idea, but to make that
kind of money and still and still be involved in
something like this and involved with the mafia.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
I mean, what, like, come on and the NBA did
they not just open their season two days ago? Done?
And this drops this morning.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
Chauncey Phillips coached for the Trailblazers last night.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Yeah, in the opener, and I'll tell you it's it's
such a contrast because Victor wibam Namma put on such
a performance last night. I mean, to do what he
has improved. I don't know if I've seen anybody, certainly
nobody that tall, but somebody taking steps in an off season,
(06:51):
like handling the ball like a point guard. Last night,
forty pounds points against Dallas on the road for the Spurs,
fifteen rebounds, three blocks. People are calling it, you know,
one of the greatest, the greatest season openers individually in
the NBA history. It was just fabulous to watch what
a great high they were on and then he did
(07:14):
to have this happen. I don't mean to laugh, but
what a contrast.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
We should mention, by the way, because you brought up
Shane Pinto. Pinto was suspended because of proxy. Yes, gambling
like he didn't bet on games. He was never found
that he did. There was activity with one of his
accounts that that's why they suspended him. Yeah, and I think,
to be honest, I think the NHL saw that and went, look,
(07:39):
this is gonna be an example that even if you're
close to the stove, you're gonna get burned on this
because this is I mean, this is bigger thing. It's
coming up. Rick, you mentioned Damon Jones. One of the
things in the indictment today again allegedly is that Damon
Jones tipped off Lebron sitting out of a game between
the Bucks and Lakers.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
From Grizzly and well he he uh.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
Jones played with and also coached Cleveland. Coached in Cleveland,
so I had a relationship with Lebron. He knew he
wasn't going to play in a game in twenty twenty three,
and he related that information to betters and they made
a bunch of money off it.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
I just talked about being addictive and being fun. I'm
going to go on the pedestal here. I just don't
get it. I don't get why people and again I'm
going in another direction here, why people have to pardon me,
their interest in sports is connected to gambling.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
I don't get that. I you know, I have more
respect for.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
People who who are interested in love sports because of
the purity of sports.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
What a dangerous thing to do.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
But my interest is not connected to gambling, to losing
or winning money or any or anything like that. I
don't get it.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
But it's out.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
There, A lot of people are and it's a it's
clearly a problem. But it's a problem for Chauncey Billups
or looks like it's going to be a problem for
Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier and dozens of other people.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
You get, you know, friends.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
That they can't they can't stay away from it.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
I don't get it. Also gets really sticky.
Speaker 5 (09:10):
It also gets really sticky when every thirty seconds you're
seeing an ad for FanDuel or DraftKings or whatever that
all these leagues are now in with and.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
The television networks as well.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
Yeah, but the leagues more importantly because they're the players,
like they are the people connected to it. And then
you have your own players in that league now that
are involved in legal activity.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
And what was the case thirty forty years ago they
didn't even talk about it, That's what I mean, especially
not especially the NFL.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
Yeah, and I know this is an NFL sorry, but
especially the NFL. The NFL wanted nothing to do with gambling. Now,
look at you got teams in Las Vegas.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
So what's changed the amount of money? Exactly, the amount
of money is the leagues realized that this there was
a lot of money to be made, yes, by getting
in bed with the various gambling entities out there, to
the point where it seems everything sponsored by one of them.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
And and look and and people can go, uh, you know,
look at back in your day, Donnie, when you first
started getting involved in sports, what was one of the
major drivers in terms terms of you know, financial well
being of of leagues and teams.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Alcohol.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Yeah, it's And people can laugh at what Rich just said,
but I can you know, you remember seeing people laugh
about it. You see it on Twitter some ad from
nineteen fifty five, the late great Mickey Mantle talking about,
you know, endorsing smoking.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Yeah, big time. Yeah, they'd smoke during intermissions and hockey
games in the sports isn't perfect.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
I think that we can we can sum up by
saying that, but big trouble for the NBA, especially Chauncey
Billups and Terry Rosier, and the investigation, I would imagine
continues and we're gonna hear possibly here some more names.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
Horrible day for the NBA, and the NBA, by the way,
has come out no surprise, they're both on leave. Both
of those, the player and the coach. They're on the leave.
They're they're cooperating with the investigation. They're doing investigation themselves.
So it's not great because, I mean, again, you had
this today, but you got the John day Porter thing
before that.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Yeah, that was that wasn't as big a deal, maybe
because of the location of the team with the Raptors.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
It was that he's not he's not a big name.
That's the other thing.
Speaker 5 (11:29):
I mean, Chauncey Billups, that's a recognizable name. That's a
recognizable name, and he is now in the position of
a head coach in your league.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
And this came out today. Yeah, okay, so we'll keep
an eye on that. But uh, what a weekend. It's good.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
It's gonna be in the world of sports Connects at
Nashville tonight as we switch gears here Connects at Nashville
tonight three are banked at five o'clock start. It's so
strange that this season has been odd for well, every
season is odd for the Caducks, so most of them
are anyway.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
But they're four and three. Yeah, they're three and one
in this road trip.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
If you would have said that before the season started
that they would start, you know, their first seven games
four and three and be three on one on a
road trip, or they're spending a lot of time back,
he's a lot of travel, no practice time. I think
people will be pretty happy. It's just the you know
what has happened in these losses. They look awful against
Saint Louis.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
At home Thanksgiving days.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Thanksgiving Day, wasn't it? And then and then this last
game where okay, they're tired. There's all sorts of injuries,
but player deployment came into questions. So it's just the
way things have gone in those losses. And you know what,
history plays a part in this. Knduck fans expect, expect
the worst. But that's why you look at this, the
way the season's unfolded so far, and you go.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
There's four and three.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Boy, that's that's a that's that's a paper house. It's
gonna come crumbling down.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Okay, But seven abby guys in the lineup, five injured guys,
they get brought last part of it, those injuries. For
the part of the fact they're over five hundred with
seven Abbsburg guys in the lineup, do give them credit.
Their best player has been Dempko. I don't care. I
know everyone, Oh Garland, this sure with this Without Brockbasser
or no Storry without Dempco, they're not about five hundred.
(13:21):
Let's be honest. Demko has been great. And by the way, Ryan,
Dad Murphys, can you show it? Yeah, Murph tweeted moments ago. Uh,
sounds like Brock will play with Sisan and debrask tonight
is Assassin, No, It'sansan, isn't it? Isn't it? San moving on?
Speaker 5 (13:42):
While EP forty was centered Garland and Kane. So there's
your top six for this evening.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
So there's our update on Brockbesser, which I was just
gonna ask you about. And what about Blueger Blueger? No
word yet, but the fact that Maxisan was in the
American League last week done and today he waits up
and is the second line center for the Canucks television.
What are they gonna do?
Speaker 3 (14:04):
No, I'm just telling you, well, your buddy there hasn't
been able to get them as a second line.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Management crew has failed miserably. And we'll talk about this
in our poll question. But the center ized position is
a mess. It's an absolute, uh donny mess.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Well, you know, okay, we'll talk about it more with
the poles. The frustrating part for Canucks fans, yeah, is
that it was their strength not that long ago. Oh
so that's that's what we'll get into that you nailed.
You're nailed later, okay, because oh yeah, you get an
update when it comes to the Abosford Canucks.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Well, because there's so many Absford guys in Vancouver down
the poor Abby down there, they're signing guys left, right
and center. So they signed former the Abby Canuck, Cloverdale
native jujar Kahera over three NHL over three hundred. Tough guy,
good guy. He should play. Not tomorrow. He's got to
(15:02):
pass a physical. I think he's going to be a
practice today. Bodies, they need bodies done. They need warm
bodies in abersburd they're starting to get.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
And he helped them win the played over twenty playoff
big guys six the cup lasts, so he can fight,
he can score, he could do all that stuff. So
they're playing Ontario in a back to back home situation
this weekend. They raised the banner Calder Cup banner tomorrow.
Imagine the Calder Cup will be there tomorrow in atmosphd.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Don, they're going to raise the banner with half of
the lineup not in the lineup on Friday.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
But you you almost sound like this is not surprised
by this.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
American Hockey League teams are built for maybe one, two
or three guys going up to the NHL team, not
seven or eight. Don.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
This is what's the difference with the Atmospherd Canucks. What
do you mean you have success and then you know
people end up moving on.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
Look, okay, when you and I talked before the season,
we said, how many Atmospherg guys are going to make
the Canucks? Maybe one? Injuries that's the That's what I'm telling.
Injuries and no centers, that's the problem. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Well, and look sass whatever you want to call him.
And these players have not looked completely out of place,
and that's that hats off.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
What's going on with atmosphere they've held They've held their
own there, they've been above water.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
DTMZ Is it just me coming up in the eleven
o'clock hour I mentioned this? Yes, Persaurans and head coach
of the Vancouver white Caps. They start their playoffs Sunday
at home BC Place against Dallas. Yespa's going to join
us just after eleven o'clock.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Big ride.
Speaker 3 (16:43):

from the Ross Tucker Football Podcast, CBS Sports Westwood One.
He's in LA for the broadcast the radio broadcast vikings
at Chargers. Ross thanks for doing this, sir.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
How are you?
Speaker 7 (18:32):
Yeah, I'm doing wonderful. Great to talk with you guys.
Appreciate the flexibility. With all my travel this week. It
has not been easy, but we're getting it done.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
You're doing radio today, I understand, what do you prefer
radio or TV or is it a tie?
Speaker 7 (18:47):
Well that's a little bit of a loaded question. So
what I like about radio is it's less of a
time commitment. There's not production meetings the two days prior.
You really just have to get there two hours before
the game. Probably less prep, although there's still a lot
of prep in terms of all the notes and watching
the games before all that stuff. But also, you know,
(19:10):
there's no producer telling you what he would like you
to say typically or show like there would be with
a producer and director on TV, where you kind of
have to talk about what's on the screen. The flip
side is it's really cool to show people things on
the screen in a TV game, you know when you're
(19:30):
doing an instant replay or the telestrader. So, like a
lot of things in life, I think they both have
their pros and cons. I enjoy both tremendously.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
When you're on TV, just do it Rick does and
ignore the producer.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
That will make your job a lot easier. A tip
A tip for your ron Okay, Woody Johnson that does
not surprise me.
Speaker 5 (19:49):
Yeah, Woody Johnson, owner of the Jets, publicly critical of
Justin Fields.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
I know you've got some things to say about this.
What is Woody thinking? I knew?
Speaker 7 (20:00):
I mean I talked about this quite a bit on
the Ross Tucker Football podcast this week. I think guys,
he was trying to defend Aaron Glenn, his head coach,
and suggests that Aaron Glenn's a good head coach, but
that the quarterback play has been really poor. I think
maybe there's some.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Truth to that.
Speaker 7 (20:22):
But look a lot of these other coaches have won
games this year with backup quarterbacks or quarterbacks that are
worse than Fields. And also, it's the way you say
things in life. I don't understand why Woody Johnson felt
the need to describe Fields in the manner that he did.
It seems to me like you can support Aaron Glenn
(20:42):
without being that disparaging of Justin Fields. I thought it
was really disappointing.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Hey, Ross, I know you like the Seahawks are five
and two. You got him in your top ten poll
number five. I think, talk a little bit about what
you like out of their cap right now?
Speaker 7 (20:57):
Well, very impressed might make their second year head coach
has done a terrific job with that team. Their defense
is ferocious, you know, even without Witherspoon. I mean, they
were down some guys in that game last week, but
their d line against getting after it against the Texans
on Monday Night.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
You know, they just come at you in waves.
Speaker 7 (21:19):
Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy and DeMarcus Lawrence and Nwosu.
They have a ferocious defense right now. And offensively, they
probably weren't great Monday Night. I think the Texans defense
had a lot to do with that, clearly, but they
did enough. And JSN Jackson Smith and Jigba has been
automatic so far this year. So yeah, I'm a big
(21:41):
believer in the Seahawks. I have them number five in
the Ross Tucker Podcast Power Rankings, which that's got to
be the highest the Seahawks have been in quite some time.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
I was, hey, what about another team? I don't think
you had maybe you did, but the Patriots are five
and two. I know, they played one more game in
the Bills. They lead the division. Their quarterback Drake May
four game James, no turnovers. What about New England? Where's
this coming out of?
Speaker 7 (22:04):
Well, it's interesting because before the year we talked about
the Patriots a lot on the even money the Betting
podcast because their season win total was eight and a half,
which seemed really high for a team that won whatever
it was three games last year. So I was skeptical
of that, even though I'm a Mike Rabel fan, a
(22:24):
former teammate of mine in New England, and I'm a
big Drake May fan. I called a couple of Patriots
games last year on TV one for CBS, one for
NFL Network, and I was thoroughly impressed with Drake May
and thought he had the opportunity to really play at
a high level. He has exceeded even my expectations and
probably anybody's reasonable expectations for this year. That young man
(22:50):
has been fabulous and clearly the biggest reason why the
Patriots are where they are.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
You mentioned Mike Rabel, his name being chanted in Tennessee
last week. Can what does he do well as a
head coach?
Speaker 7 (23:02):
Ross Well, I think he relates to the players very
very well. In his mind, he still is a player.
I think in his mind he wishes he still could play,
but he understands what they're going through, and I think
he gives it to him like a player wants it,
which just gives them the truth. I think so no oftense.
(23:23):
Some of these guys feel like they need to, you know,
sugarcoat things. I think Rabel just lets guys know where
they stand, the good, the bad. You know, we're all
in this together. And I think players really really respond
to that.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Clearly.
Speaker 7 (23:37):
They have in rabel second stop here in New England,
and they did when he was in Tennessee too.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Ross Giants thirty three thirty two. They lose to the Broncos.
Frank was scoring all thirty three of those points in
the fourth quarter. How in God's name does that happen?
Speaker 7 (23:54):
That's an all time bad loss for the Giants. You know,
it's not just that. By the way, it was twenty
six to eight with five minutes in change remaining. So
the Giants are up by three scores with five minutes left. Guys,
they lost the game. They scored a touchdown in the
final five minutes, So they are up by three scorers
(24:15):
with five minutes left. They scored a touchdown during those
last five minutes and they still lost the game. That
is almost I would have told you that. I thought
that was impossible.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
Hey, Ross, the Dolphins are one to six. They asked
the head coach about his job security. He said, I'm
not thinking about him. Mike McDaniel, What do you think
is gonna happen?
Speaker 7 (24:35):
There is he in trouble, He's probably not thinking about
it because he probably knows he's as good as gone.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (24:41):
I think I don't know anybody that thinks Mike Nathaniel
will be back after this year, barring some type of epic,
shocking turnaround. I think they all know what the deal
is there in Miami. My guess is that the owner,
Steven Ross, hasn't done it yet because he doesn't want
to take the chance that some interim head coach is
able to spur the team onto a bunch of wins
(25:02):
and then as a result they have to go ahead
and hire that guy. I don't think he wants to
take that chance.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
I would like to ask another question, Ross, But our
producers in our ear and telling us we got to go.
It's television, this isn't radio. We have to listen to
the producer.
Speaker 7 (25:18):
Have a good call. All right, sounds great, See guys,
Thanks for having.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Me you bet Ross Talker, Ross Tucker Football Podcast, CBS Sports,
Westwood One working the Vikings and Chargers.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Would imagine that would be on Westwood One. He's loving
the Seahawks. He's got them a high and in his
top ten rankings, Johnny by Stock in the Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
And I believe that's surprising, and I believe last time
I look anyway, and this was the case last week,
he has the Colts number one.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
In his power.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
He did not many people and many other people do.
NFL wide open. I can't remember it being this wide
open in recent history anyway, maybe as much as ever. Okay,
Ross Talker Ross tucker Foot Podcast. We thank him. Pull
question next, Donnie Dolling the team on check.
Speaker 1 (26:04):

and before you go, stuck up at their cold beer
wine store hundreds of local and imported options, plus exclusive
Donnie and Dolly merchandise. The Dog isn't just a hotel,
(26:48):
It's a destination. Come sentence day Watling got pull question.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
Canucks finishing off their five game road trip in nash
Phil tonight experienced one of Victoria's iconic destinations, The Waddling Dog, sleep, sip,
stock up, all in one legendary spot.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Come sit and stay at the Dog today, Roan, get
her up the Waddling Dog pull question, Who or what
do you blame for the lack of the Canucks center depth?
And look at this management or injuries and bad luck?
And look at this management seventy three twenty seven percent
injuries and bad luck four hundred votes that we just
(27:29):
posted it a little bit late today, but there you go.
Management Donnie is getting a lot of the blame for
the center mess.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
I had a great submission here that I believe I've
lost in the Bayside ocean Front Resort inbox and it
made a great point.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Gosh darn it.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Okay, Anyway, when it comes to management, how long have
we been hearing them trying to get help at the
center ice position once and nothing has really happened, and
I'm telling you and this was the there we go Dave
from Lake Couchin here it is all this that was
(28:14):
great broadcasting there by the way, well he did a
great job of tap dancing, Dave from Lake Couchin. All
this talk about getting a stop gap second line center
is concerning. There's nobody out there who will push this
team anywhere near the top. This team has a second
line center. Tanking will get them a first line center.
I wonder if he's talking about Gavin McKennon is not
(28:36):
a center, by the way. I believe he's a winger
with Penn State, but he's a obviously a pretty good
forward bottom line and Dave basically maybe he stole this
from me. I'm not sure, but this is what has
bothered me when it talks about when they conics talk
about getting help at center. The list of people you know, Rossi, Roslovic,
(29:02):
the list on and on, But are any of them
any better than Philip Hetel, Like I'm I wasn't so sure.
It's just like the word stop gap I think works here.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Like like I I it's un to me.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
It's it's the injuries, especially the one to Hetel obviously
a grave concern, but my concern, I think Dave's concern.
Don't go out and just get somebody because they're a center.
Get somebody who's gonna who's gonna be as good or
better than Peterson and or Hetel and otherwise, I think
(29:36):
you're wasting your time.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
I want to take you back to June. They did
not make an offer to pe a suitor. They then
made an offer to Christian Devorak three times four. Philadelphia
signed him for one times five. So after Devorak told
the Canucks no, they spent seven million on Besser, then
acquired Kine two wingers eleven million. So Devorac says no
(30:01):
to them. So they turn around and say, okay, Devorax
said no, he's going to Philly. Fine, we're gonna spend
eleven million on two wingers, not centers, okay, don So
that's one problem Number two. Peterson, Miller, and Horvat all
played in Vancouver not long ago, and you brought this up.
They got two top four defensemen for those two trades.
(30:22):
Horvat and Miller never got an elite center back, never
got a top six center back. Problem two. Problem three,
what made sense when you had Miller and Peterson. Don
they never got an elite center back. Here's problem three.
You pick Miller over Horvat, both of them were UFAs.
You picked Miller over Horvat. Okay, then you trade Miller
(30:45):
a year later because he can't get along with Peterson.
The amount of bad mistakes made.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
And all that, you're missing one big mistake.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
What big mistake is at? Well, we could have got rid.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Of Petterson if he wasn't making eleven point six million
dollars a sack didn have a cap hit of eleven
point said me?
Speaker 1 (31:03):
You said it not me? Do you don't agree with that?
You said it not me. I'll leave it at that.
But Donnie, the mistakes that have been made. You picked
Miller over Horvat, and then you trade Miller a year
and a half later. That's because you can't get along
with Petterson.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
How far back did the when when Horvat was traded
to the Islanders and they picked Miller over Horveat. What
was the situation between Miller and Peterson?
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Then? Do we do we remember that everybody was getting along?
Travis Green in his last year, was dealing Travis Green
was dealing with Miller and Peterson. Bruce Boudreau dealt with
Miller and Petterson. They didn't just wake up and realize
these two don't like each other. Why would you Why
would you have kept Miller Miller over Horvet. It was
a decision made. Not everybody in the Canucks office agreed
(31:51):
with it at the time.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
Uh, Miller was great, don't get me wrong on the ice,
but the ramifications regarding what was happening off the ice,
that's that set the team way back.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
It set and back, and then this Miller Petterson feud
even made it worse. This is why they're in this
mess today. Don just multiple multiple mistakes.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
And then and adding to that is the injury situation
with Blueger well with Heatl as well.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
And so that that relates to.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
What happened in Pittsburgh the other day where deployment became
an issue and of the four centers, Elias Penerson making
or with a cap hit of eleven point six million
dollars a season, had the least amount of even strength
ice time, and it was it was an issue. Player
(32:42):
deployment was an issue. Jacob Bresk also also getting a
small amount of ice time a player you depend on,
especially in the game when you fall behind.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
And you you need some goals.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
So player deployment was an issue. Do we know the
name of this Nashville reporter by any chance?
Speaker 5 (32:59):
I don't know for sure, but Adam Bingen, who we've
had on before, is out of Nashville, and I think
it might be him, but I don't know for sure.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
So finally, somebody asked Adam Foot this morning pregame skate
ahead of the Predators Canucks game tonight in Tennessee about
his player deployment, focusing on Eleas Petterson Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
Adam Elias Peterson had the lowest ice time at five
on five among your center group in Pittsburgh the other night.
Why was that?
Speaker 8 (33:32):
Why did he have the lowest ice time five on five?
Do you can you give me his ice time on.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
The special teams? Do you remember it yet? No, you
don't remember it.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
Came.
Speaker 8 (33:43):
Oh, he was eight minutes special teams and to probably
two shifts in the last eight minutes because we're down
five to one, or the last probably.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
Six or seven minutes.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
I don't know exactly.
Speaker 8 (33:53):
So when you're playing eight minutes on special teams, you know,
mainly because of our injuries and those are harder minutes,
you know, killing penalties, things like that. And then you
take the three games and three and a half days
where you look at Washington physical hockey and three three hard.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Row games and he played really good. So you you.
Speaker 8 (34:16):
Try to manage you know, hard penalty kill minutes, hard
PK minute twenty shifts when you know you're getting eight
minutes compared to previous the previous year, he's probably my
guess is he's averaging four to five minute special teams.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
So when you're up in.
Speaker 8 (34:32):
Eight minute mark and you're down five to one and
you had a three three games and three and a
half days, you're trying to manage a guy physically, not
putting them in a place to get injured either. You know,
you're playing those hard minutes in a game and you're
you're you know, you want to win to the end,
and we're we're always in striking distance. Even at five one,
we're thinking about it, like we gave him a couple
more offensive draws or things like that to see if
(34:54):
we get a quick one. But I would say when
you look at the overall statistics, it's harder to play
harder minutes are, in my opinion, are going to be
special team minutes, which his are up from last year.
So if we really want to dig in it, and
we can, he's probably a minute on average less five
(35:15):
on five of the year, but probably two minutes if
we really focus on the PK at the last three
or four games compared to the first three where he's more.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
Of a PK guy.
Speaker 8 (35:24):
We wanted to get him in gradually so he wouldn't
get caught where you have to go learn it when
you play it. Then he's probably off a minute on
PK or sorry, five and five overall, but probably up
two good minutes on special teams. So you know, that
probably explains how we're thinking. And he's going to have
(35:46):
harder minutes five on five right now because he's the
most veteran centerman, so we're gonna have to put him
probably at more starts on his end than.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
We would prefer.
Speaker 8 (35:54):
But he's really good at finding his guy off face
offs and things like that. So I gave the in
depth one and I hope that answered your question.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
He sure did. Did you get all that? Oh boy,
there was a lot to unpacked well.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Number one, and you could tell that Adam Adam knew
that question was eventually coming. I don't know how agitated
he was, but he definitely was ready to go with
that answer. This has a lot to do with a
the compact Olympic schedule and you know, some form of
(36:29):
load management for Eleas Peterson. And the other thing is
they're using him on the PK. So, I mean, it
was a well thought out answer. Seven eight minutes of
special team times, including time penalty killing, which he normally
wouldn't have done in the past. So there's that, and
then the thought that the schedule has just to look
(36:49):
at the schedule ahead of the Canucks, I mean, it's crazy,
crazy difficult. So I commend him for giving an answer
that made it. Now moving forward, if this continues to happen,
you have to wonder what his opinion of Elis Peterson is,
you know. So the other situation was that he brought
(37:11):
up was on top of the special team minutes, was
the score was five to one, five to one early
in the in the in the third period, and at
some point you got to say, hey, we're not going
to win this. We're not going to win this game.
We're probably not going to win this game. Short of
a miraculous comeback. Let's think of what's ahead and give
him a bit of a rest. So it was a
well thought out answer. I'll give him that.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
So they played tonight, come all the way home tomorrow,
day off tomorrow. They've got Montreal here at four o'clock. Darnye. Saturday,
Edmonton here on seven o'clock. So if you if he's
rolling the lines in Pittsburgh, you can bet Saturday he's
rolling four lines as well, because they got to go.
You come back from a road trip, you get one
day off and bang bang two in a row at home. Wow.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
And here's the other thing. When you say harder minutes
on special teams, I'll give you that with p K.
I don't know a player in the world.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
That doesn't want to jump on the ice, the matter
how tired they are on the power play big time, Right,
you want to get out there to pop in a goal? Okay?
Anything else? Didn't you have something else? I've got business,
that's what? Okay? How about that.

guy Aiden from Abtsford, referring to what we just heard
(39:40):
from Adam foot regarding player deployment ice time PD, debrask
Bester need to come off the PK not because they're bad,
but because it affects their five on five ice time.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
I changed the wording a bit there. Yeah, I think
you get the idea of food for thought.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
We'll see what happens going forward or yea even tonight
in Nashville.
Speaker 5 (39:59):
Big Rye, I don't know. It was a very thoughtful
answer from Adam Foote. I still don't quite understand.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
All teams are going. Yeah, the contents schedule thing, I
don't really it's quite easy to understand.
Speaker 5 (40:10):
I don't really want to hear about the candent's schedule
anymore because every every team, because the NHL is dealing
with it.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
So I don't really well, yeah, but are they dealing
with it that way?
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Are they also in a situation where they're playing their
top players. Well, there's there's injuries as well, but where
they where they're top players are maybe would get reduced
ice time in a game that you know you're not
gonna win.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I'd have to look up
if I check the stats every night, other team's top
centers are playing twenty minutes plus Peterson is a sixteen
minutes start of the year at fifteen minutes the other
team's top centers. I told you guys, Cowdrey played twenty
four minutes in the first game for the Flames in Edmonton.
Other top centers are playing way more than Petterson. Well,
(40:53):
Condrey is way more, for thing example, But what about Crosby,
what about McKinnon, what about McDavid? A lot of time
and expect Peterson to play the same amounts as them? Yeah?
Why what He's making good? That's why. Okay, look at
this lineup, who's better? Well that heat was there like
like like that.
Speaker 5 (41:13):
That's the part I don't get is is is the
ice time is down in.
Speaker 1 (41:18):
Favor of each others. Like I'm sorry they are. You
don't have to explain what footsi.
Speaker 4 (41:23):
I know.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
I know it's a math problem essentially. I get it.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Also, but you we talked about this in the break
as well. Adam Foot is an inexperienced and all due respect,
great defenseman all that, but as a head coach in
the NHL. He's inexperienced. Yeah, look is he Is he
getting better at this sort Will he get better at
this sort of thing? Did he mismanage that? I'm not
I'm not really sure, but his explanation was pretty well
(41:47):
thought out.
Speaker 5 (41:48):
If five one, we're not gonna win, to make sure
that our number one center has his legs next time
out that sort of thing.
Speaker 1 (41:53):
I might be wrong, but at least he explained it.
Speaker 5 (41:55):
Well, yeah, and we'll see watch tonight Petterson thirty five
minutes he see there, or just all the time, just
to prove a point.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
The Mike Keenan thing with covid le f, Oh my god,
maybe the greatest NHL story all time. You know that.
It's on YouTube the entire Yeah, you can watch this
entire city. You don't know this summery the Coles notes. Yeah,
COVID that blew off Keenan first year.
Speaker 5 (42:17):
So Keenan said, all right, you know better you stay out,
basically kept him out for one like a million, like right,
he scored, he was, I know, but the shift is
super long ended upsode.
Speaker 1 (42:26):
He scored during that, I know, And that's that's it's
the greatest. It's just soul Mike Keenan.
Speaker 5 (42:32):
We speculated on this yesterday, but it was confirmed moments ago.
And that is the Blue Jays announcing their Game one starter.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
And I know this.
Speaker 5 (42:39):
You have interested Dolly all over there, Trey you Savage,
former Vancouver Canadian boom. The Game one will be the
game one starter for the Toronto Blue Jayson lab start tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (42:49):
Night in it is every level of baseball this year,
to the minor leagues up played with played with the
Vancouver Canadian is twenty two years old. Gosspein played in
Game seven, So I imagine that played a part of
this decision.
Speaker 1 (43:02):
Yeah, I think it did. I think it did. So,
Trey Savage.
Speaker 5 (43:05):
Game one tomorrow night in Toronto for the J's and
the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (43:11):
Pitcher major league baseball level. That's a good gig. Yeah yeah,
what do you mean? Also pressure time off between games?
Speaker 5 (43:21):
Okay, the pressure of this kid, like I've been throwing
up all day tomorrow for this.
Speaker 1 (43:26):
If I'm this kid, you do that before I do.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
I Just what do you think is the bigger It's
tougher being a catcher or a pitcher in Major League baseball?
Speaker 1 (43:37):
Catcher. I think catcher's got to be one of the
toughest jobs at all. Yeah. I mean they were talking
a lot about Calra Calra.
Speaker 5 (43:43):
It's almost like two hundred games caught this past season.
Speaker 1 (43:48):
I mean that's nuts.
Speaker 5 (43:50):
And again he was doing it and a lot of
people will say that it's a more physical job than
you think. I mean, not just the crouching, not just
the crouching aspect you're getting hit and.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
All these sorts of things. Very physical. So yeah, oh
for sure.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
By the way, you're calling pitches as well.
Speaker 1 (44:05):
Yeah, no, for sure. The MLB. I got another tweet here.
Speaker 5 (44:08):
The MLB the announced yesterday some statistics when it comes
to the ratings. It's the highest global viewership. This is
the MLB postseason postseason ratings. Okay, uh, the greatest viewership
in the usage twenty seventeen, so right there. The ALCS
(44:29):
Game seven between the Mariners and Jas reached fifteen million
people in the US and Canada. We talked about the
most watched game ever on Sports Net for the Jays
ten point two million viewers in Japan for the NLCS
game number four where the Dodgers swept the Brewers.
Speaker 1 (44:46):
And that's the most that's I'm surprised that that's the
most ever in Japan. Well, there's some Japanese stars of
the Dodger.
Speaker 5 (44:53):
But I'm only surprised because at show Hey last year, right,
I mean sure they won it last year with show Hey, Okay,
So like I'm a little surprised. It's it's still big
this year when he's already been there once. But anyway,
it's been all roses for and then I saw that
the better Fox, you know, for the fact that everybody
was a little nervous about Mariners Jays second time National Appeal.
Speaker 1 (45:13):
They are amazing.
Speaker 5 (45:14):
Record numbers for Game seven of the ALCS on Fox
in the United States. So it's good to see. Okay,
transitioning to the NFL. Donny's gonna like this clip. I
don't know if you guys saw this yesterday. So Joe Flacco, Okay,
we know what's happening.
Speaker 1 (45:27):
Joe Flacco.
Speaker 5 (45:28):
He's in Cincinnati now, traded from the Browns. He talked
yesterday though about how his family didn't join him in
Cleveland this year. I apologize, I can't remember where they're based.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
But they didn't join him in Cleveland this year.
Speaker 5 (45:40):
But they've been coming out to a lot of games,
so obviously they didn't join him in Cleveland. They're not
joining him in Cincinnati. He said they wanted to keep
their kids in their routine. They were gonna stay in
the routine on their home base.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
Which is I can't remember where Cleveland.
Speaker 5 (45:53):
It's not Cleveland, and it's not Cincinnati. But his family
will be at the game this weekend for Joe. But
he talked about eating alone. Okay, and this was Flacco's
clip yesterday at his press conference.
Speaker 9 (46:06):
I tell you, I tell people all the time. I mean,
I used to see guys sitting at a bar by
themselves or you know, just sitting by themselves, eating and
grabbing a little meal, and I'm like, man, I feel
so bad for that guy. You almost want to go
join them. And now I realize, like that dude was
in heaven. And not to say that that's that's obviously
not what I want. I'd rather I'd rather be at home,
(46:28):
sitting at the dinner table with my kids and hearing
what the hell they were talking about all day. But
there are but but if you have to do it,
then you might as well take advantage of it. So,
you know, just little things like that.
Speaker 5 (46:40):
And you of course famously ate alone on your birthday,
so you had an added element to this.
Speaker 1 (46:45):
But he you know what, there's a story there that
justifies it completely.
Speaker 5 (46:50):
Like I have a three year old, so I'm new
to the whole fatherhood thing. But he is so bang on.
Like the thought of like it looked kind of pathetic before,
like that person should alone at a table, eating.
Speaker 1 (47:02):
On their phone or whatever.
Speaker 5 (47:03):
Now when I think of that scenario, quiet, peaceful meal
by myself.
Speaker 3 (47:09):
I was doing amazing a lot of traveling when my
kids were spending a lot of time in Toronto, and
my kids were really young.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
You can relate to what he's saying quiet time. Yes,
that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (47:21):
Yeah, there's one thing that you know how you feel
sorry for the he said he felt sorry. Yeah, I
can understand that. There's one thing. I think one situation
where I feel more sorry.
Speaker 1 (47:32):
For the people involved.
Speaker 3 (47:34):
And it's one of maybe one of the reasons why
I didn't get married young, and.
Speaker 1 (47:39):
That's the old couple at the restaurant not saying a
word to each other. What are they going to talk
about your kids life? Did that day? I always thought,
I'm there. I don't want to be that, especially if
they're like, not that old. They're just sitting there eating
their meal, and it's it's kind of sad.
Speaker 5 (48:00):
Okay, you tell me, first of all, you're watching these
people way to go on.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
That's sadde. That's pathetic. You tell me you've never seen that.
I've seen it. Ye. But now families go out to
dinner and everyone's on there.
Speaker 5 (48:11):
Yeah that's okay. No, no, not just my generation. It's
a way. It's bad. It's bad when you're out for dinner.
Well and look at it and trust me. Okay, there
are times when Max will have his tablet just to
chill out a little at a restaurant.
Speaker 1 (48:29):
Maybe calm down. Yeah, it doesn't bother everybody, right, so just.
Speaker 5 (48:32):
Chill out just right and and get used to the tablet.
Speaker 4 (48:36):
Right.
Speaker 1 (48:36):
But Kelson and I wead at dinner recently and it
was a family of four.
Speaker 5 (48:40):
The kids were probably I don't know, thirteen and fifteen
or something like older.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
Right, They both had tablets, parents both on phones.
Speaker 5 (48:50):
There you go, I'm like, what do we do that?
That's bad because those kids can entertain themselves. They don't
need a tablet at that point. That's bad.
Speaker 1 (48:57):
Was there an older couple, No, there wasn't. There wasn't.
I keep in mind that I'm older than you, so
I didn't see that. When I was younger. All I
saw was the two older people.
Speaker 3 (49:08):
You know, a couple had a dinner not talking to
am I the only person who noticed this.
Speaker 1 (49:15):
But it happens. I know what you have I ever
getting married.
Speaker 4 (49:20):
It happens.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
But you know what, also, maybe you know, just tired
of each other.
Speaker 5 (49:24):
Well, knowing your wife, I know how she she feels
about me. Yeah, like there's a reason she's not talking
exactly anyway, by the way, I gotta say. And that
whole clip, I cut it down. That whole clip was
like two minutes. Flacco is an outstanding interview. Like if
he wants to do TV after this, he would be great.
He is so good, so thoughtful with his answers, answers.
(49:45):
This year's bouncing around between two organizations. But I thought
that was funny yesterday, my son, that clip, not next.
Speaker 1 (49:51):
I'll never live down the you know.
Speaker 5 (49:53):
Eating I'm sorry, there's no explanation that justifies that happening.

Speaker 1 (51:23):

Speaker 3 (51:25):
Upper Bowl will be opened for Sunday, and here to
talk about it is Vancouver white Caps head coach. Yesper
Sorenson becoming a regular on the show. Yes, but thanks
for doing this, sir.
Speaker 1 (51:34):
How are you?
Speaker 10 (51:36):
I'm good? Thanks? How are you guys?
Speaker 1 (51:38):
Very good? Very well, very well.
Speaker 3 (51:39):
What can you tell us about your team's preparations and
the excitement level surrounding your side going into the weekend.
Speaker 10 (51:47):
Yeah, of course we're excited for the playoffs starting now.
Speaker 4 (51:51):
We know that.
Speaker 10 (51:53):
Yeah, it's been a long season and now we are
at the final stages of it and playoffs. I've not
tried it before, so I think it's for me definitely.
It's it's very exciting going into it, and I think
the team is ready to do well.
Speaker 3 (52:07):
Other than not getting a red card early. What did
you learn about.
Speaker 1 (52:12):
Taking on a Dallas team in last weekend's loss?
Speaker 10 (52:18):
Yeah, we I think we learned. We learned obviously a lot.
We know that now it's playoff time, so the margin
up erro that we we allow ourselves has has to
go down. But having having said that, I also think
that we we know that we also have the quality
(52:39):
against the Dallas team to to also you know, do
well against them. I think that we did actually play
a pretty good game considering we'll ten against eleven the
entire match. I think it's that that we we look
strong in the end, and I think that we look
too physically to be able to push them. But they
(53:01):
took advantage of some of the mistakes we made, and
they also had a good plan coming up against us.
So I think that's what they will try to execute
once again, and we just have to be better at,
you know, avoiding them getting opportunities that we shouldn't allow them.
Speaker 1 (53:18):
Yes, but we hear the phrase defense wins championships a
lot goals against you were number one of the Western
Conference only gave up thirty eight. How big an important
part of that is into the playoffs as well?
Speaker 10 (53:33):
Yeah, it's definitely an important part, of course it is.
It's always nice when you know that you don't need
too many goals to win a game, because goals can
come sometimes come out of situations where you know it's
not a big chance or anything, and all of a sudden,
you can see the goal and you have to be
(53:54):
able to respond to that. But of course, in playoff
games where where you have the feeling that it's going
to be a little bit more tight and a little
bit more the teams will be closer to each other normally,
then it's small things that makes a difference. And then
it's good that you have the confidence that you have
(54:15):
a good defense and if you score one goal it
might be enough for you to win the game. So
that's definitely a thing that's important. I don't know if
it's all true about defense wins championships. Sometimes the teams
that scored the most goals also you know throughout the season,
(54:35):
they also do pretty well in in championship runs. So
I think it's it's about how good you are at
as a full team, I think, and how well you
can balance your strength up against your weaknesses, and I
think that's very important.
Speaker 1 (54:52):
Well, something else that is important is health. What can
you tell us about the health of your team heading
into game one.
Speaker 10 (55:00):
Yeah, if that's very important, then we're in trouble. But
then we've been in trouble all years, so I think
it's yeah, no, but.
Speaker 4 (55:10):
We have.
Speaker 10 (55:11):
We have some guys closer to getting back. We have
Yodoric Cooper, who's who was on the band's last time
and and just haven't played for a while, and you know,
haven't played for us yet, but it's it's definitely closer
to be able to play more meaningful and more minutes.
(55:32):
And then we have Ryan who's coming office injury, and
you know, normally we play a lot, but but have
not done it this season. And you know, we we
still see that his need bothers him, so it's not
that we can just throw him in there. We still
(55:52):
have to be very cautious about how we use him
and of course what quality he can he can play
up up to. You know, if if he's close to
his best, best level, then it's obviously no brain not
(56:13):
to play him. But if he's not closed, then there's
also a lot of other guys that's very good, so
it's it's also what we are considering. And then we
have Tristan who should be Yeah, we'll see throughout the
rest of the week if he can make it for Sunday,
otherwise it will be probably and Brian obviously we probably
(56:36):
we'll have to see, but probably not gonna see Sunday,
but hopefully next game.
Speaker 1 (56:40):
Thank goodness, Thomas Mueller is healthy. Boys, He's been a
treat to watch since she came here. He's played on
the biggest world stages, biggest games you can possibly get.
I really excited, yesper to see here what he does
in the playoffs for you.
Speaker 10 (56:56):
Yeah, of course he will be a guy that it's
used to these games. Whose used to big games, who's
used to you know, have to prevail in big moments.
And I think that's also a thing that can give
his teammates confidence. And you know that we've already this
season done some very valuable experiences throughout the Champan's Cups,
(57:22):
So I think that that the team should be should
be ready for for also the mental part of what
playoffs is about, because it is it is games where
you where there's a lot of stake. And and also
I think I think that the way these the format,
(57:42):
especially for the first round, I think you know, it
suits the lower seats a little bit better with the
that they can take advantage of drawers. So it will
be up to our to definitely go out and attack
and want to win the game and push for winning
(58:06):
the games and in that regard, Thomas is very valuable
for us.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
Hey, yes, very I love watching him play, not just
because of what he does handling the ball, but also
what he does directing traffic out there. How much how
much does he help you in your job, Thomas.
Speaker 10 (58:22):
Miller, Yeah, he helped me of course, you know, executing
and directing his teammates on the pitch on field, because
it's also a thing that throughout the game, I can't
really reach out to players that much. It's so noisy
that it's very difficult for me to get into contact
sometimes with players and if I want to give some message,
(58:43):
and some messages should be passed around. And Thomas is
very upfront and he's very active and all the time
directing his teammates, and you know, it's it's a blessing
to have players like that who really takes respon so
bit let's see on pits to make sure that the
team is functioning and doing well.
Speaker 1 (59:05):
And it seems like they listen to him.
Speaker 3 (59:07):
You talk about noise pushing thirty thousand ticket sales, the
upper Bowl is going to be open. A lot of
people around here pulling for you, of course, yes, Ber,
thanks so much for joining us in best of luck
in this series and in the playoffs.
Speaker 10 (59:19):
Thank you very much, Thank you guys.
Speaker 1 (59:21):
You bet yes.
Speaker 3 (59:22):
Bris Sorensen, white Caps head coach. Of course he was
talking about Kristan Blackman and Gold and Brian White.
Speaker 1 (59:29):
It's Dallas and the white Caps. Sunday at BC Place,
get ready playoffs soccer, Donny, and there's nothing better and
it starts on Sunday. Pull question will update it next, Donny.

sip stock up all on one legendary spot. Come sit
and stay at the dog today.
Speaker 1 (01:00:45):
Rick right, get her up the wadling dog poll question,
who or what do you blame for the lack of
Canucks center depth management or injuries and bad luck? Look
at this management seventy three twenty seven percent of injuries
and bad luck. What's the number? Right? I can't see
how many boats. There's a block in front of the number.
Speaker 11 (01:01:04):
Oh yeah, six forty eight. Okay, sixty eight there as
opposed to six forty nine. Well, that's what the Canucks
need right now. It's some luck, a lottery at that position.
Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
A lottery.
Speaker 3 (01:01:18):
Again, McKenna is not a center. Yes, you said it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:22):
That was a Freudian slip, Floridian slip. Absolutely.
Speaker 5 (01:01:25):
Doesn't it feel like a million years ago that they
had horvat Miller Petterson? Yeah, yes, like that that that
that that is a that's a Stanley Cup contending.
Speaker 1 (01:01:37):
Strong up the middle of the ice. Yes, center depth
strong commission now, like that's insane. Even when Lindholm was here,
it was the same Yeah, yeah, exactly, it was the
same thing. And it's just and Lindholm leads the NHL
on faceoffs right now. By the way, guys and J. T.
Miller's third, hor Vet's fifteenth, just saying but they had
all these guys, they had all these they were strongest
(01:01:58):
team up the middle of the ice in the na
tell the not look.
Speaker 3 (01:02:00):
Yeah, but you're all for the them. But the contract
with Pederson, I didn't say that you did.
Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
What are you talking? You wanted to get?
Speaker 5 (01:02:09):
Are you gonna complain about the Pederson contract for another
one hundred years?
Speaker 1 (01:02:13):
It's done.
Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
It's overway to a lot of the people on our
base at Inbox.
Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
Yes, it's a bit of a malaise with that. You
wanted him to get thirteen million? That I did not
say that. Don stop it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:27):
Yeah, it does seem like a million years ago.
Speaker 1 (01:02:29):
Yeah, like I mean, and rich right, rich right?
Speaker 5 (01:02:32):
So even you find you you can absorb the loss
or the blow of Horrat because you brought in lindhol
So like that that I treat that that's then.
Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
You also get heronic right right, but then know him
for Horrat? Okay, now, look at I mean, it's just.
Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
You know, you don't want to there's a million things
and look they're four and three. It's surprising, surprisingly good.
All the losses have been not great not no, they
just concern with those losses and three and one, but
on this road trip, which is obviously positive. But I
think one of the things that really points out the
(01:03:11):
way things have gone for the Canucks is that, arguably
one of it's argued top five worst trades in Kinnock
history is the Oel deal. One element from that trade
might be their most positive element so far this season
and maybe even going back to last season, among other things.
(01:03:33):
Says it Alle Early. Here's another one for you guys.
You brought up Oel.
Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
They're paying them four point seven million this year not
to play in Vancouver. They could use that caps based
to go out and get a centerman right.
Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
Now and be the most difficult part of that whole situation.
Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
They can't.
Speaker 3 (01:03:47):
And I mean it's it's just almost comical that Garland
has been one of their best players and he comes
He's the result of one of the worst trades in
Knnock's history over the past two or three years. If
you're a Kannuck fan and look, I grew up watching
this team. I'm been a fan of this team.
Speaker 1 (01:04:04):
It's hard to watch o we yell. He looks so
much better.
Speaker 3 (01:04:08):
It's certainly in Florida and now in Toronto than he
ever did here even get involved.
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
He gets involved in scuffles like he you know, like
he's physical, Like why was that? I just don't and
I know there were there were injuries.
Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
He broke his leg at the World Championships going into
one season with the Canucks, but.
Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
He didn't look like that and he was younger. And
the other guy, Mchaev did he not get twenty goals
last year in Chicago? He looks good?
Speaker 5 (01:04:32):
Oh stop stop just like and they're paying him, dude,
seven thousand rosters. Nobody even blinked when they moved him
out of here.
Speaker 1 (01:04:43):
You don't think they could use his twenty golver now, no,
you don't think they could use his twenty sure, but
he What did he show.
Speaker 3 (01:04:49):
Here with him? Is that I agree with you. Nobody
even blinked. But it takes time for players to History
is shown. It takes time for players to recover, no doubt, surgery,
no doubt. And when I watch him play with Chicago,
now I go, boy, he looks much like Oel.
Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
He looks way better there. I realize that's an easier
lineup to.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
Crack, but he looks way better there. This is the
naked eye stuff than he ever did. Because I get
to argue Jason Dickinson too.
Speaker 1 (01:05:17):
Yeah, there's another guy they had to and they had
to give up a second round pick to get rid
of Dickinson and Ryan. By the way, scoring on a
week team is a hard thing to do, right. You're saying, oh,
it's easy to crack Chicago's life. I'm not sure this.
Speaker 5 (01:05:31):
He and Tony opportunity opportunity though they were almost dead
last It's a week team with no offense, and he
scored twenty goals, but he was getting all I would
love to I don't know his time on ice. I
guarantee it crushes anytime he had here man Coo.
Speaker 1 (01:05:47):
He was injured too. But look at this. You know
what it comes down to.
Speaker 5 (01:05:49):
The it comes down to the overall philosophy of this
organization is constantly hit the fast forward button.
Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
How fast can we get out of mistakes?
Speaker 5 (01:05:56):
You want to biot old Arena Bioto Right, you gotta move,
constantly adding assets to move. Who's your buddy from Langley?
The danton Hyde danton Hee Curtises? Are you know curtises?
Speaker 1 (01:06:09):
Are you know what? D we know there's a bit
of a family connection. Yeah, that's why I said that
you know him. But they signed the guys way back.
This goes they shine guys and get rid of them
six months later, but this goes way back. This is okay.
Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
So then, yeah, you talk about fast forwarding. Whenever I
bring up Rebuild, you guys, you know, come back at
me and the attack because it's and then who's it's.
Speaker 5 (01:06:31):
An infinite loop whose organization rebuilt? Donnie asked for rebuild organization?
It goes around and around who's coming into town Saturday?
Answer me, Uh, you see them last night?
Speaker 1 (01:06:42):
Kind of sounded like.
Speaker 3 (01:06:46):
Tuning character for those people who don't know. And what's
the name of the show that the documentary's.
Speaker 1 (01:06:53):
Gonna even say that word? I know that it had
to be. Now if I felt so sorry for Trevor
Linden a small army and he couldn't he couldn't even
say large R or capital art or just the word
just say it normally.
Speaker 3 (01:07:09):
Yeah, And then and then look at this team with Montreal.
They got nine or ten of their draft picks. They're
six and two. You watched them last night, I know,
you know, Oh my god set up to Mathewson the overtime.
They that they're so dynamic and young and there's just
a special lineup and looks like they're going places and
all that hope in that market.
Speaker 1 (01:07:30):
And hey, listen all that talk.
Speaker 5 (01:07:32):
You know, while the Vancouver fans won't accept the rebuild,
they're paying big who knows more about hockey, Like all
due respect, everybody in Montreal.
Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
They they accepted it. I mean they got ridden.
Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
Montreal got rid of their GM after they went to
a Stanley Cup final.
Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
Like but again though, so I know what it can happen.
I know you point the Buffalo, You're You're right, Arizona, Utah.
It just goes on. You just got to bring Ryan's
taking a while slash they had ol t. Yeah, they
didn't make the playoffs last year, Ryan, No, I know,
I know they aren't start this year.
Speaker 4 (01:08:08):
Ryan.
Speaker 3 (01:08:09):
Yeah, but that Montreal team which has an first overall
draft pick in his lineup and other draft picks, that
they made a great trade getting young player in Knick Suzuki.
But okay, just again though, but but you were just
complaining about the lack of focus that things like that.
Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
The Habs, though, what did they do?
Speaker 5 (01:08:28):
They brought in Jeff Gordon can't use the Canucks on
the flip side here brought in a president and look,
I'm not blaming him, but that was clearly not going
to be in this for fifteen years.
Speaker 1 (01:08:40):
So what happens? You have to let's go, let's go
to speed tom.
Speaker 5 (01:08:42):
Again, the fast forward button pushed on everything. It's always
with this organization. So you agree, who can sell me on?
Who can sell the owner on getting into the playoffs?
Not championships, getting into the playoffs and getting that playoff revenue.
Speaker 1 (01:08:56):
You got to tell this owner is I can fix
it in two years? I should do that. I could
fix it in two years. He's going to hire you
and Rick and the opposite. If you don't say that,
what happens? Trevor Linden fired right yeah, or right left
or whenever, we know what happened there, whatever terminology you
want to use. Trevor Linden said, let's rebuild. Jim Benning says,
(01:09:17):
I can fix it in two years. Who did the
owner keep a guy who said I can fix it
in two years? And how did that workout? Not? Good?
Speaker 10 (01:09:23):
Well?
Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
How has it all?
Speaker 4 (01:09:24):
Though?
Speaker 3 (01:09:25):
Everybody you talked to about that, and you know, people
like myself for drants and I know other people to
this market, you know, Reboh, you can't do that. It
just where would they have been if they had listened to.
Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
Trevor twenty seventeen, by the way, that was twenty eighteen.
Speaker 3 (01:09:39):
Maybe I think it would have to be better than
what it is now. I'm just gonna guess.
Speaker 1 (01:09:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:44):
But there's also it would be something they haven't done before.
And this market has never seen a Stanley Cup. I
know they got to the Stanley Cup final tys. Something different,
something you haven't done.
Speaker 5 (01:09:55):
But it's also it's a concoction of problems because look
at like how many of their draft picks now when
they were bad, have fizzled out.
Speaker 1 (01:10:04):
You let me, yeah, you got me very good.
Speaker 5 (01:10:08):
Whatever you want to say with Peterson, right, whatever that
is like out of that bad time, they have to
show for thatcher Denko who could be a VESTA winner
at some point. And but even hughes Rick brings up
the Christmas card thing. Donny, let's be honest, queen, you
shouldn't be Vancouver should be in.
Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
You should be. That was that was a gift, right,
that was a gift.
Speaker 5 (01:10:30):
I thought you were going to go down the road
of he hasn't looked his usual self seven years.
Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
He's gonna be fine, Like I mean, you have some business. Yeah,
that's right, absolutely, Oh you got it. Look at this.
Connects are gonna love us even more after this.
Speaker 5 (01:10:49):
Jack, somebody's bringing up to two other names that mentioned
kind of a rebuild towards right, and then he was gone.
He's gone, yes, and Gillis. Gillis hinted edited as well.
But I remember an infamous interview in ten forty when
he did and he was out of here.
Speaker 1 (01:11:05):
The first guy to wake this city up was Ryan Kester.
He said, I'm out of here. This looks bad. I'm
out of here. It was Ryan Kester, then Tortorella who
said it's stale. Change it, owner didn't change it. That's
Aden in Abtsford. By the way, great question. All right.
Check out the largest selection of sports member Billy autographed

(01:11:27):
November twenty second, Pastime and Langley welcomes Jake de Bross

we're just talking about him. Trevor Lindon a good pal.
He's partnered up with Pastime Sports for a private autograph event.
Details on that are available at pastime Sports dots the eight.
Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
I just want to say this too, Ken Richardson Pastime
Sports have done.
Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
A great job.
Speaker 3 (01:11:57):
And we know the story with the BC Sports Hall
of Fame some some tough times recently and Ken Richardson
Pastime Sports great job along with other people including Ron
Jones of the West Coast Auto Group of stepping up.
Speaker 5 (01:12:11):
Yep, laptop absolutely yeah in front of the laptop. The
only thing I changed today was the card because I
subbed it out for a puck signed by former Nashville
predator Key for Surewood, who was that Pastime Sports last year.
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
It all works. Yeah, that's a keep for Surewood's autograph.
Autograph you see the cave, I only see the four
is a bit of a hint. I can see the camp.
But come on, how you cut If you took the
forty four away and ask somebody who's autographed that is,
you can't tell me, you know what.
Speaker 3 (01:12:40):
Let me just say this, and as you know, I
like anything that happened one hundred years ago. But do
you ever see Gordy House autograph. No, just beautiful, but
always beautiful a message. It's like you can tell clearly
what scruffling against Keith?
Speaker 1 (01:12:55):
For Surewood, that's scribbling.
Speaker 3 (01:12:57):
But the guys back in the day really took their time. Gordon,
how is you had a great, great autograph? You know

All right? Here we go? Is it just me? Donnie's right?
With the BC lines Waitcaps doing so well right now,
it just feels like the perfect time for the Canucks
to lean on their success tank this year to get
a high draft pick and avoid risking the future on
a mediocre player MTB Sam. Yeah, obviously I agree a
(01:25:40):
us Nick, Is it is me?
Speaker 3 (01:25:41):
But the Devils start isn't helping the Cannucks in their
attempt to keep Quinn Hughes.
Speaker 1 (01:25:46):
Devils are on top of the overall standings.
Speaker 3 (01:25:48):
Yes, they're six and one, and Jack Hughes has been
on fire and would Quinn like to be a part
of that?
Speaker 1 (01:25:55):
You can speculate on that? That's two hours, two years away,
don I mean? We gotta yes, it is it? Yes?
It is?
Speaker 3 (01:26:03):
Okay, Well, we get sorry, go but submissions in the
inbox that people saying, well, the way things are going
for the Caducks again there four and three? But what
about a Quinn Hughes trade? Again, we get that Indian Box.
Speaker 1 (01:26:14):
Yeah, it's got to go down to the bottom of
the standings before they trade Quinn Hughes, I think. But
here's one on Quinn rebuilding or not rebuilding. Hughes is
not hanging around regardless. Things have not changed over the
last couple of years. Well, a couple of years ago
they were in Game seven against Evonton. So that was
a good year last year, and this year had been
a little bit tougher. Is it just me?
Speaker 3 (01:26:35):
Unsigned you guys should attempt to get Ron settlebar On
as a guest.
Speaker 1 (01:26:39):

Don Dene and Iimo. Is it just me?
Speaker 3 (01:26:52):
New S Secondary School has announced John bon Jovi will
be playing there at a sockhop.
Speaker 1 (01:26:57):
I remember sock Ops in grade seven.
Speaker 3 (01:27:00):
I wondered if Don watches the show enough to hear
my story about Heart playing at my high school Alpha
when I was there in the in the seventies. And
Trooper is well known as Applejack, but.
Speaker 1 (01:27:13):
You remember sock ops, right, yeah, dances all the boys
on one side the girls. What did the name sockhop come?
What is a sock cop? I don't get it. Well
you tell me. I don't know. I don't know what
a sock cop means. All I know is our grade
seven teacher, mister Carlson, was right there in the gym
with us. What did he have socks on? And was
(01:27:37):
what was the song we don't need any education Pink
Floyd that came on and he yelled, yes you do?
So there you go. I remember that moment. It was
a big moment. What it's a good story. He was right,
he was right. He yelled out, yes you do. Has
Kevin Lincoln have been good this year? I know he
hasn't played a lot, but he hasn't been up to
(01:27:58):
par something to monitor or New West Darren, we're on it.
He had the good game in Chicago he got he
lets them in against Saint Louis and then the last game,
so I think New West Aaron's got a point there
man and Chiliac is it just me? But good thing?
Speaker 3 (01:28:13):
I wasn't taking a sip of my coffee when Dolly
said it's my job to make you, guys think, why.
Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
Would I give you the easy tips early? Then you
gotta get him. I gotta make it hard on you.
Look at this, Kevin and Colonna. We have a zero
phone policy at dinner. We've also brought back the family
dinner table where our entire family discusses our day and
talks about life. This is a we don't see this anymore.
Remember Swiss Family Robinson way back? Remember Gunny, you remember
(01:28:41):
Swiss Family Robinson. Well, every show in the sixties, they
were all together at dinner. Sleeve It to Beaver. You
don't think, Leave It to Beaver, were together, happy days
all those guys. You don't see that anymore.
Speaker 5 (01:28:50):
Did do you sit around the No, the kids come
in to the kitchen, they grab their plate and they
go to their with their phone.
Speaker 3 (01:28:56):
Did their phone downstairs or in their room? I'm telling
you right now. The dinner table when I was growing
up was a rumor. It was TV trays watching some sports.
That was honestly my dad on the couch and.
Speaker 1 (01:29:10):
That was it.
Speaker 3 (01:29:11):
We're good break, Okay, we'll wrap up a show on
the poll question next Donnie Delay the team on.
Speaker 1 (01:29:16):
Check, Don Polck, Ryan up Waddling Doc pole question, who
or what do you blame for the lack of Canucks
center debt, management or injuries and bad luck. Well management
is leading seventy three percent. Injuries bad luck comes in
at twenty seven over seven hundred votes. Already you're starting
(01:29:39):
to hop and pop and not stop. And do you
have any pictures? Yeah, we have pictures Leon and Vernon,
great guy. Ryan deleted his photo yesterday, so Leon was
nice enough to rescend and Ryan, you got it. I
deleted it. Ran, I'm just kidding. Are you serious? Okay?
There Herery go look at this Leon and vern and
(01:30:00):
he writes, this is what happens when you don't leave
the game early, Rick, you get a photo with the
BC Lines cheerleaders. So there it is, right there, Leon
in Vernon, great photo. I assume, Donnie, that was at
the last Lines game. Okay, Yeah, we had the guy
in Edmonton send one from the Eskimost game. And the
(01:30:24):
chance that that the Alliance game with the cheerleaders there,
I would think, yeah, yeah, anything else that's it? Yeah?
Was that one other one? Somebody sent an autograph? Did
they not? No, not that they did.
Speaker 3 (01:30:36):
Well, maybe you guys can run it tomorrow is it
just me uh from Peter Puck. But you know how
it starts gambling in sports. They have so much expendable
money and don't know what to do with it. They
start gambling and its spirals from there.
Speaker 1 (01:30:53):
That's a good point.
Speaker 3 (01:30:54):
And Peter and asked referring to the NBA gambling scandal.
Speaker 1 (01:31:00):
These guys makes twenty thirty forty million a year. That
can me crazy stupid money. And think about every two
weeks what you're getting, right? Yeah? Just crazy? Is it
just mirror? If the liquor store strike doesn't ensue and
Rick's going to be arrested for bootlegging crown and a barrel,
I am a little bit. I'm a little bit peeped
(01:31:20):
off with this, said Donnie, you see these guys striking
every day, and what's happening is it's forcing us to
go to the Kolbier wine store who they're jacking up
the prices. It's ridiculous. I hope it all works out.
Speaker 5 (01:31:31):
Nah, Come on, guys, thinks think about Rick and his crown. Yeah,
think about the priority and the kolber wine store. Guys,
stop jacking up the prices.
Speaker 1 (01:31:42):
Good luck with that.
Speaker 3 (01:31:44):
Thanks so much for tuning in the folks on behalf
of Ryan Derek Rick, everybody here at Oh Boy and Jack.
