Speaker 1 (00:14):
I think you're gonna want to hear this.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Your local sports coverage lives here.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Sure what I.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Says to an overly curved super blade do Nothing Blue
with Don Taylor. I say that the winner of the
draft lottery should be the winner of a two man loose.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
And Rick Dolly Wall I had a cherry tree, little Ricky.
I used to go up that tree and just sit
there for hours and munch on those cherry years.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Donnie and Dolly.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Friday edition of the program is on the air. It's
Donny Dolly the team on Check. I am Ryan Henderson
alongside Rick Dolly Wall in his special Hawaiian shirt. Today
Derek Wong directing the program need a Savage sitting in
the producer's chair. Dolly, you nervous, you excited? Find but today? Okay?
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Well tell us where we're talking about the world think
you're talking about?
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Can you see the blue Jays? Yeah, we can see
the blue Jays. Did your buddy buy this for you?
My buddy Bob up in Grand Prairie. Him wife, Renee
massive fans of me. They don't like you.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
But anyways, Bob and Renee and Grand Prairie bought me
the shirt. Good people, good people. But anyways, the World
Series tonight and the Blue Jays at home to the Dodgers.
Boba Schet this morning on the Blue Jays. He didn't
look good the other day. Did you see him trying
out the knee. Yeah, he didn't look good, but they
put him on the roster.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Yeah, you know, and John Schneider said he might d
h he might play second. He's he's a great hitter.
Because here's the problem for the Blue Jays is that
the starting pitcher for the Dodgers the e r A
is that I think snell one Blake's at one point
five six, like I mean that they got to the
(01:52):
hitters gotta get going. They got to hit tonight. And
one of the problems is the Dodgers starters are getting
most of the outs, and that's bad news for other teams.
They're not you know, it's not the bullpen, it's not
it's the starters that are going six seven innings and
getting most of the outs. And they did a good
job arresting them down the stretch. The Dodgers. What am
I talking about?
Speaker 4 (02:13):
The Dodgers so much for listen, Blue Jays, Let's go
Canada's team tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
And you know all.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
These people that said it's going to be a sweep
for the Dodgers, don't bank on it.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
That's what I'm hoping for. That's the best outcome for
me in my eyes. By the way, you'll appreciate this
tonight throwing out the first pitch, CEO Gaston tomorrow, Joe Carter,
Joe Carter, your good pal and my good pal ninety three.
I was right there.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
We were all in the basement before he hit at
a party and he hit the home ern.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
We went nuts. We went nuts. So Game one World
Series tonight, five o'clock, Game two tomorrow, both in Toronto,
five o'clock, both games. It's a big weekend. It's a
very busy weekend. It's gonna be a very soggy weekend,
which I know you're looking forward to all the rain
coming up over the weekend. But you got the World
Series the next two nights. You've got the Lions in
(03:03):
Saskatchewan tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Okay, So if the Lions win, yeah, they're gonna host
the playoff game. Yes, next week, Yes, and uh let's
go Lions. You know what they've had trouble with Saskatchwans.
Saskatchwan's got first place in the West locked up. But
they are gonna play most of the regulars tomorrow. So
it's not gonna be an easy game for the Lions.
It's gonna be a tough one. It's a tough place
(03:26):
to win Regina. Remember old Tayner Field in Regina was
a tough, tough place to win. But Ryan, I'm telling
you right now, not an easy game tomorrow. Lions are
gonna have to have their best yep.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Absolutely, and there are other scenarios where the Lions could
clinch that home playoff date with with a loss, but
it's it's it becomes a math problem. The bottom line
is the Lions need to win the exactly to get
the playoffs, to get the home playoff date, which will
be a week from tomorrow against Calgary at BC Place.
White Caps. Speaking of the playoffs, white Caps Game one
(04:00):
Sunday taking on FC Dallas at BC Place four thirty.
Kickoff for that game on Apple TV. That's where you
can check out the game. That's where you can watch
the game if you like Apple TV. Yeah, so you
have to pay. Yeah, I'm out. I'm out. I'm out.
I'm not gonna do it. We had to do it.
I know you're not. I'm gonna watch the lines on
(04:20):
my cable TV tomorrow. I'm gonna watch the Canucks on
my cable I'm gonna watch the Canucks and the Lions.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
But these guys here is a great team, the white
Caps apt They got an international superstar yep, Thomas Mueller
on their roster, and they're making you go find these
games and pay for them. Not gonna do it. I'm
gonna do it.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
If you miss. Yesper Sorenson on our show yesterday that
that that the head coach of the White Cats. That
interview is on our YouTube channel. He provided injury updates.
Brian White looks out for Game one. It's not happening
for Brian White unfortunately, Ryan Gouldo, Tristan Blackman both. I
would I expect them to play whether how much they
play well minutes that that's what we'll see on how
many matches we'll see. But the bottom line, them being available,
(05:00):
that's huge for the white Caps. Just have them available
and Monsile goes the Caps of course lost to FC
Dallas last week, but they went down early in that match,
so it's hard to tell. They actually beat Dallas back
in March one nail. So the white Caps tonight out
in Abbotsford. It's a banner raising knight. Oh for I
think there's gonna be three members of the Abbotsford called
the Cup team in attendance. Everyone else has moved on
(05:22):
from the organization. Maneueljutro will be there as well. But
they're raising a banner tonight Abbotsford taking on the Ontario
Range seven o'clock tonight, three o'clock on Sunday against Ontario again,
but banner raising night tonight in Abbotsford for the Abbey Canucks.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Did the Canucks farm team ever win? I go back
to and I told Donnie and I go back to
the Fredericton when the Knucks farm team was in Fredericton
in the eighties and then they went to Dallas. They
were all over the map. But for an American Hockey
League team to win the Calder Cup, good on these guys.
They captured the imagination the Lower Mainland last spring. Seven
(05:56):
of the eight guys of that championship team or in
Vancouver with the Canucks. Maybe I don't know when they
got in last night or Ryan, maybe they go out
to the game. They obviously can't play in it. But
and the other thing is I heard is Atbmosbord should
get their championship rings. Oh good, Ryan, Soon they've been
ordered and they've all been fitted, and those guys are
(06:17):
gonna get justifiably so champion, not like the Dodgers or
who just got champ Florida Panthers. I don't think this
owner is gonna pay. How much was the Florida Panthers rings? Oh,
I don't know, perset fo Yeah, fifteen thousand US.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
I don't think they're getting fifty thousand US rings. Well,
and I don't know if you saw the OKC got
their rings the other night too, the NBA champions of course,
and their ring we didn't even talked about it, but
their ring was two rings in one. Oh, it was
very impressive. But Abmsford banner raising tonight. We should also
mention the Vancouver Giants. Two important events with the Giants
(06:51):
speaking at the LEC tonight, they have hockey fights Cancer night,
the Giants sews. They take on Portland seven o'clock pucked
up for that. Sunday is a fun night if you've
got kids and you want to get a jump on Halloween.
There's the graphic for Hockey Fights Cancer Night tonight if
you want to get a jump on Halloween. Sunday is
a lot of fun four o'clock game. It's trick or
Sweet night for the Vancouver Giants as they take on Kamloops.
(07:15):
So this you can dress up if you've got kids
and you could go from sweet to sweet and get
some holiday treats. And also postgame skate with the Vancouver
Giants because it's a Sunday game, so you can get
on the ice after the game with the Giants. So
a lot of fun happening at the Leec on Sunday
with the Vancouver Giants. And they're un beaten in three
yep after that tough Saskatchewan road yep. So go Giants
(07:37):
go well. I don't know if you saw yesterday. Rick
five Giants named to the preliminary list of NHL Central Scouting.
It's a good young team absolutely and led of course
by Ryan Lann who we've talked a lot about. Okay,
we've put this off for long enough and you can
tell why. And that's the fact that Vancouver Canucks last
night wrapped up their road trip in Nashville, losing two
to one to the Predators. Rick, I'm telling you, I
had to hold my eyes open for a lot of
(07:58):
that game. That was a bad hockey game, Okay, by
two bad teams. You say that it was, it was.
There's no way to spend it. Keep it hold of
a second. They got seven abosperg guys to stop five
injured players. They've scored two goals in their last two games.
You know why because of the injuries and the schedule
is catching up to them. On the weekend, they played
three games in three and a half days. Look, it's
(08:21):
a condensed schedule. You combine a condensed schedule with a
ton of injuries and a ton of atmospherg guys, call up.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
This is what you get last night and the game before.
Not a surprise to me, don right. They lost in Pittsburgh,
they lost in Nashville last night. They're running out of gas.
No excuses. There are no excuses in the world of sports,
and I don't even think the Canucks want to use them.
But man, oh man, you you leave that road trip
with three points or six points, three and two.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
You take that and you run. You're probably right, especially
with the way it ended, which feels like a long
time ago now again with the start of it feels
like a long time ago now the way that it ended.
But Rick, there's there's also some train like you can
say that, Yeah, they're running out of gas or whatever.
The Canucks this morning, wake up. Twenty ninth International Hockey
lea get shots per game. Yeah, that's over eight games.
(09:09):
That's not over the little end of the road trip,
running out of gas all that that's over. That's over
the eight games this season, the twentieth International. They don't
have a second line center who creates a lot of offense.
Your top six centers, Yeah, well they have all scoring
is going to be an issue, I'm sorry, until they
get healthy. They have power out trade. They have power
outages all over the lineup, right, Yeah, sure they do.
It's just a hard they they they they're not generating
(09:32):
nearly enough. They and I mean the power plays a
whole other, it's a whole other second.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
Four powers, first period, no shots. I mean, had the
power play for ninety seconds? Was it late in the
first two man? Yeah, no, shots. That's unacceptable. Yeah, that's
a massive concern. Yeah, they're five hundred through eight games.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
They're full four they they they if you didn't, if
you missed it, last night, Montreal lost a heartbreaker in Edmonton.
There's some very questionable reffing at the end of the day.
Oh the fact they put in five you nailed it.
It was. It was puzzling to say the lending caligar
ripped the referee. I mean, there was an unsportsman like
call on Josh Anderson that I still don't know where
(10:11):
exactly was. We didn't get a good look at it. Anyway.
The bottom line is they put up five goals in
Edmonton last night, and that team that beat them Canadians
last night by putting up six goals will be in
Vancouver on Sunday Monday Morning Show. As we look ahead
Monday Morning Show. So what are you saying, could be
looking down the barrel of this thing, we're starting to
call it quits. I mean, I'm sorry because they haven't
even played ten games and you're calling the season right.
(10:33):
But Rick, look at the trends, look at the tre here.
Here's here's a trend for you team teams. Wait, till
the ten game mark, the fifteen game mark, the twenty
game mark, to assess where they're at all that stuff. Now, okay,
ten games will go over Sunday. Sunday is the ten game.
Vancouver's in a different spot. They have to assess a
little bit quicker, and they got their working the phones.
(10:55):
They're working the phones very very hard, trying to get
a centerment very hard. I will not be surprised if
they're on the phone this week trying to get Pablo
Zach out of Boston. There is no question they're working
the phones trying to get a sentiment. Because of all
the injuries in the atmosphere call ups. So the assessment
of waiting ten fifteen has changed in Vancouver because of
(11:16):
the injuries. One concern, one big concern for me. We
talk a ton about Eleas Petterson on the show and
other things, but it's Quinn Hughes. Quinn Hughes has one
goal so far this season. It was an empty editor
in Nashville. This courtesy the Stanchion wyinart on Twitter. He
captured this last night. If you missed it, this was
(11:36):
the end of the game right before this clip, and
this clip's looping Right before this clip, there was an
icing and Quinn Hughes hammered the puck around the boards
and frustrations. Yeah, you can see in this clip here
he's skating up the ice and he shakes his head
right there. It's very it's hard to tell, but he
shakes his head right there. I want to play this clip, Derek,
you have a postgame Quinn Hughes. Quinn Hughes, this is
(11:59):
the cap of the hockey team. Yes, okay, the leader
of the team. Yes, on the player's side. This was
his assessment of the game last night.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
Yeah, I mean, obviously, uh we like the better result
and I think we're all just uh ready to go
home and have a good home stuff.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
What is the key to when you get home having
a strong start with a back to back, especially I
know it's been been tiring one.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
Probably just canter sleep tonight and take care of ourselves tomorrow.
And I mean I think Montren Edmonton worried about them
in two days time, in three days time, startmentton.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Look, you can say he's tired, and you can obviously
he's frustrated with the way his team has played.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
I guess what they've lost back to back games and
you think the captain is going to be happy about it.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
But okay, at the same time, you know, Quinnys is
arguably the best hockey player this franchise has ever had.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
He's also the best defenseman they've ever had. Again, you
can make a debate to battle Bury. You can make
a debate babble Burry.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
I know, I know, but you can make a debate
at the very least. Well, he's in but three games.
He's also going to look at himself. One goal from
quin Us is not gonna help you. There's other times
in games that he's made mistakes that he hasn't made previously.
He's I don't know what it is. I don't know.
It's just on offensively challenged team right now. But he's
not helping that, okay, right, And so that's why to
(13:17):
me when he looked so angry at the end of
that game, then that clip. Again, you're supposed to be
the captain. You're supposed to provide something, and that's what
you provide. The elite players who are captains don't cheer
and show you a smile after a loss. Now, I
will say, you do have one good point. If he's
not happy the problem for if.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
You're gonna sult, control, bad body language, it's not a
good look when you're a captive. No, it's not a
good look when you're a captain because in times of
despair and when the going gets tough, right, it's the
captain who's got to grab the leadership range and say, hey, guys,
get on my back, we'll get out of.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
There right exactly.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
If he's gonna sulk and show bad body language after losses,
that's not a good sign.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
For captain's And that's my concern. That's where I'm going
with this. You know, people talk about it all the time.
You know, you don't want to see people in positions
of power panic because the underlings is not you use
the wrong word power.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
Just wait, the leader, the leaders leadership exactly, leadership. You
want him in the trenches when the going gets tough.
And but if he's going to be upset and not
be happy. He hates to lose. The reason he's an
elite player is because he hates to lose. And that's
and he has done nothing but lose except one year
in Vancouver, one year two years ago.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Every every other year has been a losing season for him.
But again, at the same time, I'm also looking at
a statistic that says he has one goal and it's
an empty netter, Like, what is he doing? But how
is he helping the situation right now? He's not. And
that's what you know. Again, he's probably exhausted that they're
looking at a long flight last night and they want
to just get the hell home after a road trip.
I understand all of that, but at the same time,
(14:57):
I don't know. Man, You're right about the body language
thing that coming off of him, that negative energy coming
off of him is not great. You ripped JT.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Miller because in Winnipeggy slammed he's sick about body light.
But he wasn't the captain, okay, but he was wearing
an a absolutely, and I've talked about Hey, I've talked
about LEAs Pederson.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
I don't think he's shown enough fire and enough anger
and his situation. As a leaders can't show bad body language.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
You got to stay as neutral as possible. Leadership is
all about positivity. Hey, guys, we've lost four in a row.
But let's go with right, right and and rally the
tripes because leadership is about standing out front when the
times are top and he's got to do that now
because if they lose both games this weekend, this city's
gonna go nuts.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
You're right, and you brought it up Rick, like we
are talking today, and trust me, we're going to get
to the base side ocean front resort inbox, which is
absolutely exploding with people's reaction to last night. We will
get to your submissions. I appreciate you sending them in now,
but the fact is, you look at the road trip.
They were still over five hundred on the road trip. Yeah.
I just told they're five hundred after eight games as
(16:02):
a team. So Quinn could reference those things and go
look at you know, it was a it was a
tiring road tripper. At the end of it, we just
want to get home. You're what you're saying is you
think Quinn Hughes is miserable. I just yeah, I just
think I I think there was a lot to read
into last night with the way he looked on the
ice at the end of that game, which again some
of the frustration might be about himself. There might be
(16:23):
about himself.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
They're trying to get the tying goal and one of
his guys, Ice is a pocket you think he's gonna
be happy.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
I get that, but again, you are the captain and
I just think it's something to read into because he
hasn't been good enough as a whole so far this
season as well. A lot to get to again, we
got another an hour and a half still to get
to on the program. We're gonna get into the inbox.
As I mentioned, keep your submissions coming in six or
four two ninety four ninety four. Email the team at
(16:50):

your is it just me? Which you're coming up? Next hour?
We got DTMZ next hour, big ride later this hour,
next hour as well. Bruce Boudreau, former Canucks head coach.
We'll talk to him what he's seen about the Cannucks
so far through eight games. Also the ice time conversation,
how much he was aware of it during a game,
and we haven't even talked about the ice time from
(17:12):
last night, which by the way, Quinn used almost half
an hour of ice time last twenty nine insane. We'll
talk more about the Canucks nexts with our good pal.
He's back on the program. Thomas Grants from the Athletic
and Sports Net six fifty. It's Friday. We're gonna have

Resort inbox. We'll get to them as the show goes along.
We now bring in from the Athletic and Sports at
six fifty our good power back on the program. Thomas
Trant's Thomas, how are you sir? Here we go, there
we go, Let's go days, Let's go days. So what
do you think, Thomas? Do you think the Jays actually
(19:06):
could push the Dodgers?
Speaker 8 (19:08):
Probably not? But you know what, it's the most random,
right of any right, you know what I mean, like,
win win four of seven? I mean the Dodgers had
series this year where they got swept by the pirates. Yep,
I mean, it happens. It's baseball. It's super random. I
you know, do I think the Blue Jays will win? Probably? Not.
If they win, do I think they'll have like multiple
(19:30):
games in which the score is like eleven to two? Probably?
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Right?
Speaker 8 (19:34):
Like? But but yeah, I mean, who cares. They haven't
been there since I was six years old. Let's enjoy it.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Yeah, you wonder if the Jays can capitalize on the
rust factor from the Dodgers who've had a lot of
time off as well. Okay, we're putting off talking about
the Canucks, and rightfully so because of what we saw
last night at they lose two to one and the
road trip. Your thoughts on the game, Your thoughts on
the road trip for the Canucks.
Speaker 8 (19:56):
Yeah, I mean, you know, the road trip overall was good,
I mean three and to condensed schedule overall, I mean fine.
The injuries are piling up, and I think so I
think it makes sense to sort of separate it into
two different buckets, you know. I think you can go
through and look at how this team played in the
first seven periods of the road trip plus overtime in Chicago,
(20:18):
and say, hey, that look good. And then I think
you look at what happened the latter two periods against
Washington after heatl left the game, what happened against Pittsburgh,
and what happened against Nashville and be very concerned that
this team has fallen beneath that baseline level where they
just don't have enough credible NHL options at center and
(20:41):
might be in really tough as they come home and
face you know, for example, the Halbs, the Oilers and
the Rangers in quick succession to open you know, this
weekend and next week, and so you know, for me anyway,
that's how it separated. I don't even know if it's
about team performance. There are things that I was seeing
when this lineup was fully stocked that concerned me in
(21:04):
terms of how they were controlling play five on five,
in terms of their inability to generate consistently that I
thought were concerning. But what we've seen since the heatal injury,
I think is a different thing entirely, and that's far
more concerning. That's where you know, I don't know that
Adam Foot has a full deck. I don't know that
(21:24):
the Canucks have enough weapons frankly to keep pace over
the short term in the Western Conference. If they're not
going to have you know, hetal in the lineup, Like,
if they're not going to have a HEATL caliber middle
sixth center in the lineup, I think they've fallen beneath
that baseline level you have to have in order for
like your elite talent and your goaltending to make the
(21:45):
difference the way it was for the Canucks. You know,
at the start of this trip Thomas.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
We talked a lot about Quinn Hughes in our opening segment.
He looked very frustrated at the end of that game
last night. What are you seeing when you've seen Quinn
Hughes through eight games?
Speaker 8 (22:02):
Yeah, I mean the Canucks aren't controlling play with him
on the ice. They were outshot what three to one
with him on the ice last night. That's unheard of.
I mean that that doesn't happen to Quin Hughes. Quinn
Hughes bends space and time to his will on the ice. Usually.
That's what we've seen for almost the entirety of his career.
So you know, I don't see like I still see
a guy who's puck dominant. I still see a guy
(22:23):
who's a one man breakout machine. Uh. You know, my
eye test on Quinn Hughes is still Wow. This guy's incredible.
But the results, the on ice results, they're not there
for him the way they have been throughout his career.
I don't know if that system is related. I don't
know if that's you know that that his individual performance
hasn't made a running start to open the season. But yeah,
(22:44):
I mean he looked frustrated. I looked like he was
a little bit frustrated with a teammate who maybe lined
up in the wrong spot on a on a late
set draw. You know, it was obviously frustrated going down
the ice smashing his stick against the end boards. I
like the emotion. You know that they hadn't played well.
He hadn't played well, and I understand why he was frustrated.
(23:05):
I don't think we need to make too like this
isn't the JT. Miller conversation from a year and a
half ago in my mind, but I think you know
when you should be frustrated, and he looked frustrated for sure.
Speaker 4 (23:16):
Thomas Pederson great without the puck, you know, defensively strong,
He's blocking shots four more last night, but he's not
getting paid eleven six to block shots and be good defensively.
He got that money because he had a ton of
points before, and the points have kind of dried up
only four to eight games so far. They can't afford
another year of forty five points for this guy.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
What do you see? What is it there for you
and him offensively to break through again.
Speaker 8 (23:43):
I mean, you know what I'm not seeing, Rick, is
I'm not seeing those moments where he cuts through the
neutral zone as a put carrier and enters with speed
and makes things happen for his teammates. I mean, that's
what I'm not seeing. I'm not seeing the skating speed.
I'm not seeing the guy who can cross over defenders
and sort of break like take a can opener to
(24:04):
defensive structure when they're when they're stationary in the offensive zone.
I mean, you know, I'm not seeing that he had
a good shot yesterday, like a really good shot that
forced Juicy Sorrows to make a good save. I'm not
seeing enough of that. But I did see some of
it last night, so I like that. But I'm not
seeing him get to shooting locations frequently enough. I'm not
(24:26):
seeing him shoot enough on the power Player at five
on five. And I don't think it's just hesitation. I
just don't think he's getting into those spots. And I
think partly it's because he's just not moving the same
that he used to. And I don't know why that is.
I don't know, if you know, I don't know what's
going on. But I wonder, you know, I wonder if
he's sort of had to adjust his game over the
(24:47):
last couple of years and that this is what it is.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
You know.
Speaker 8 (24:50):
That's like put it this way. I'm not confident the
way I used to be that we're going to see,
you know, the old dominant Patterson return. I'm just not
at this point, and through the first seven games of
this season or first eight games of the season, I
just don't see a player who looks dynamic with the
puck on his stick or skating through the neutral zone.
(25:12):
And yeah, I'm deeply concerned at this point, as I
think the entire market is.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
Well, what's deeply concerning is that three centers from Absburg
are playing in a National Hockey League game for the Canucks.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
This can't go on forever. What are you hearing on
the trade market for the Canucks right now?
Speaker 8 (25:26):
Well, I'm not hearing much, you know. And I know
that they're aggressive. They're always aggressive. They're making calls. They're
always making calls. They've been trying to address this issue
since they made the JK. Miller trade, but that was
what eight months ago now, I mean it's been a
long time. And you know that we all knew the risks,
and they knew the risks internally with Philip Hetal going
(25:47):
into this season. You know, it doesn't help that Teddy
Blueger and even Ty Mueller down on the farm are
also dealing with their own injury concerns. The Canucks don't
have enough at center, Like, they just don't have enough
at center period. And you know, I don't know that
they're going to be able to hold the fort with
with what they bringing to the table right now down
the middle of their forward group. I think it's affecting everything.
(26:07):
I mean, you look at last night's game in Nashville,
thirty to thirteen shots.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Yeah, you know, I mean.
Speaker 8 (26:14):
Let let's not pretend that Thatcher Demco, you know, robbing
Nanaimo's Matthew Wood on the doorstep and doing all sorts
of other things to keep that game close, hide the
extent to which, right, that was a game in which
Nashville was the better team by a massive margin. And
you know, Demco hit that until a squeaker beat him, right.
(26:35):
I mean, Demco's so hot that the only puck that
really got by him got by him by like a
half inch, right, like a quarter inch. That's how good
he's been. And I think that's been hiding the extent
to which this team structural play five on five is
really problematic through eight games. Now it's only eight games.
They have a chance to improve. They could get better.
(26:56):
By no means. Are we at a point where we
can say with any confidence that this team's true talent
level is one of the worst five on five teams
in the NHL. I don't believe that yet by any means.
But you know, this team has run hot in terms
of their shooting, and they've gotten excellent goaltending, in fact,
best in league goaltending when thatcher Denko has been in
(27:17):
the net. And I think those two facts have hidden
the extent to which at five on five, this is
not a very good team right now, or at least
has not performed like a very good team through eight games.
They're going to have to get that back on track,
and I don't know if they're going to be able
to until they get heatle back or get an answer
in terms of a credible middle sixth center that they
can drop into this lineup.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
You did right yesterday, though, Thomas for The Athletic about
Alex Weinberg out of San Jose, whether he'd be an option.
Would that really move the needle if they could somehow
pull off a Winberg trade here.
Speaker 8 (27:52):
I think it would because the thing that the Canucks
are missing at the moment is not a star second
line center. It's like credible NHL level bodies with experience
that can help you hold the fourth right. I mean,
do I think Wenberg can come in and be a
fifty point guy?
Speaker 9 (28:08):
Like?
Speaker 8 (28:08):
Probably not, But I mean it would be such an
upgrade to just have a credible veteran NHL center right
now in the lineup to help support some of these
young guys and slot them in a little bit more appropriately.
I mean, you know, we've got Atu Ratu playing top
six minutes. Yesterday anyway, Maxisan played more minutes than Oliez Petterson,
so he was playing second line minutes, you know. Bringing
(28:31):
in a Whenberg so you can slot Ratu on the
third line and a Sassen on the fourth, Yeah, I mean,
I think that would move the needle for this team
in terms of giving them a chance to survive this
sort of next little stretch. You know, well, they've got
heatal out and not enough centers in the lineup, especially
until Teddy Blueger gets back. So yeah, I mean, I
(28:51):
honestly think the bar is pretty low for what a
center what a center acquisition can do for this lineup.
I just think the Canucks all in beneath that sort
of baseline level where you have enough centers to legitimately
have a shot at controlling play. And that's the other thing.
I mean, they were out shot thirty to thirteen. I
didn't think the Predators played very well. It looked dangerous,
(29:13):
did you, gentlemen? No, Like, I didn't think the Predators
looked like a playoff team last night. You know, it's
not like they got throttled by the Oilers or by
the Vegas Golden Knights. You know, and I don't know
how much hockey you guys are watching around the league,
but if these are the Canucks centers, you know, what's
it going to look like when they play in Anaheim? Right?
Or are you Colorado or even or even at Seattle? Yeah,
(29:35):
I mean forget Colorado, right.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (29:36):
They were talking about the other like wild card ish teams.
I mean, you know, you look at Seattle against Winnipeg
last night, was Shane right down the middle and that
I mean they have enough center depth of Berkeley, Catton's
playing on the wing and Veneers and by the way,
they're out Taco and McCann and I mean they have
their own They are four or five guys out of
their lineup too, and man, it looks materially different. So
(29:59):
you know, at least my view of this is that
the Canucks are going to need an extra body at
center just to hold the poor in the short term
until they have clarity on heatl or get him back
in the lineup.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Thomas Donnie mentioned this on Crossover on Wednesday. But again,
we're happy to have you back on the program, and
our condolences to you and your family over the passing
of your father. We're just great to thankful to have
you back, and again our thoughts are with your family.
Speaker 8 (30:24):
Yeah, thanks so much. He was a great guy and
I appreciate your your kind words, your patience with me
as I took a couple of weeks off. Gentlemen, he
loved your show.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Oh and mainly Donnie though, right, be honest, be honest, Donne.
Speaker 8 (30:36):
No, no, he well, he was a big Donnie fan
for sure, back back to the sports sports page days.
But he loved your show. He loved the banter. So anyway,
thanks for having me, thanks for your kind words, and
it's good to be back.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Thanks Tom, appreciate it. We'll talk to you next Friday.
That's Thomas Trantz from the Athletic and Sports Net six
fifty and you know he's right man Seattle. We'll talk
to Faranessa on Monday. They look good in Winnipeg. Last
night they are up. They are banged up by as
Thomas says, like you bring up Colorado. That's the other level.
But let's just talk about Las Vegas.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
The Knucks right exactly what is going to happen at
Caducks Play the Colorados right?
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Vegas is of the world exactly exactly. Oh boy, Thomas
talked a bit about trades there. We'll talk about that.
On the other side, we'll set up the pole question
for the first time in the show, and much more.
This is Donnianli the team on check looking.
Speaker 3 (31:24):

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Your Island Adventure starts here. Time now to introduce our
wadling Dog poll question. For the first time in the show,
experienced one of Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep, sip, stock up,
all in one legendary spot, Come sit and stay at
the Dog today.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
Nina, get her up the waddling Dog pop pole question.
And it's got a concern about No, it's going to
be around the game last night, our waddling Dog pulls.
Speaker 6 (32:31):
Well.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
No, not just the game last night.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
It's got to do with everything which connects players. Performance
is most concerning. Through eight games, Uh, you got Petterson
one goal, Hughes one goal, the Brusque one goal, Kine
no goals and no surprise Peterson's leading fifty. Hughes comes
in at thirty and then Caine and debrask look, Patterson's
got four points in eight games. Defensively, he's doing his job.
(32:57):
He's blocking shots. But again, that's not why he got
eleven point six million. He got eleven point six million
because his points per game before that contract was enormous.
He gave his agents a ton of ammunition to get
the money. The problem is after that contract was signed,
the points have dried up and he's on pace again.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Now, Ryan, let's say he goes let's say he goes
no points on the weekend, then it's going to be
ten games he's going to be on pace.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Are you ready for this? Thirty two points? If he
goes zero, your number one center in the National Hockey
League cannot have thirty forty points. He has got to
be up at eighty ninety ninety five one hundred. That's
the bottom line. Number one centers do a ton of
things on a hockey club and they can't be at
thirty forty points. And that's what his pace is right now.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
It's not good. Well, the the more not, the more concerned.
One of the other concerning pieces, Rick is the is
the shots on goal. Last night, one shot on goal
and that was midway through the third period.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
Was in the third I remember checking at the eight
minut how many shots on net?
Speaker 1 (34:01):
Here?
Speaker 4 (34:01):
And here's another one for you. He had zero shots
on net in the third while being on five Canucks
power plays unacceptable. If you're not gonna shoot five on five,
how can you not shoot five on four?
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Right? You have more time and space? Well, and postgame,
I believe it was Pittsburgh one of the games he
talked about I need to shoot more. I need to
and yet you're not doing it. And that's one of
the frustrating things we're getting a lot into the Bayside
Ocean Front Resort inbox about is why aren't these guys shooting?
Speaker 8 (34:31):
Why?
Speaker 1 (34:32):
Why is it always It seems like a lot of
them are passing back to Hughes to let him take
the shot, and yet these guys are supposed to be
the offensive drivers on the team and they're not shooting
the puck. It's very frustrating for a lot of people.
So we just talked a little bit with Thomas Grants
about trades. What are you hearing right now around the
Vancouver Canucks and trade interest?
Speaker 4 (34:52):
Well, just like Thomas, they're working the phones. You don't
think that Patrick Elvin's on his cell phone all day?
Speaker 1 (34:58):
He is? He is.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
But here's the problem that Alvin has. The Canucks are
not the only team looking for centers. Others are as well.
So then it comes down to who's got the best
draft capital, who's got the best prospects?
Speaker 1 (35:09):
Who are you going after?
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Multiple teams are, including the Canucks, are going after the
same guy. You know, the Boston Bruins are getting a
ton of calls for Zaka and Middelestat, a ton of
calls from a ton of teams that are looking for centers.
Prices are high. Vancouver's got no leverage. Everybody in the
league knows they are desperate for centers right now. That's
another problem. But I look, all teams are gonna call
(35:31):
the same guys, including the Canucks. Everybody's gonna call Calgary
for Nazem Kadri. Everybody's gonna call, including the Canucks for
Pavel Zacha on Boston.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
So look, they're stuck. They're stuck. And so do you
want to give up prospects? And Ryan, do you want
to give up your first round pick in twenty twenty six,
which is a very good draft. The Canucks don't want
to give up their first round pick in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 10 (35:53):
Not.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
Right now, they don't.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
If things change in a few weeks, they might have to,
but right now they don't. Regardless of what anybody weeks,
they are not wanting to give up their first What
did they learn last year? They kept the first pick
and got Coots a really good prospect. If they traded
that first round pick last year, they wouldn't have Coots
and Medvedev. Keep your picks.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
I'll be honest. If this, if this management team trades
the Vancouver Canucks first round pick and the upcoming draft,
I think they should be fired on the spot. Ryan.
Then you're gonna be the same guy that says, oh
my god, they didn't make a no, they didn't get
a center no, because we just showed it. Look at
all these gold totals. Who is gonna even if they
(36:34):
somehow pulled off a Nazm Kadri trade, which of those
not gonna be caught? There's the goal totals in the
polkast Calgary, you know you're right, I know, I know
indivision all that.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
I get that Calgary is not trading Kudrey in division
with term.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
That's the key.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Calgary had no isshoes sending Zador off and Lindholm to Vancouver.
Why because they were UFAs the moment, there's a guy
with term. Cadrey's got three more years after this year
at seven million. You don't want the guy in your
division for more years, right?
Speaker 1 (37:01):
I don't see that of those names you just mentioned,
he's the most talented. You put Nazem Cadri on this roster.
How much better are they? Like line wingers have a
lot more, but what are they You've got? You've got
Eleas Peterson, which, let's be honest at this moment in time,
right now, he's a second line center, So Nasim Cadri
(37:23):
is your first line center. Maybe in this first or
second Kadrey brings a lot to the table. He's a
great but he doesn't This team is not a player away.
I'm sorry. They are injuries right now, Rick are technot
They might not get heteled back. We don't know what's
going on with Heatel. Dave Blueger's hurt. Right, They're desperate
at center and you're sitting there going what would codriy do?
(37:44):
Kadriy would help.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
He would help a whole lot better than three Abbey
guys in the lineup and center.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Okay, he would help, sure, but how far ahead does
he push at the price? And Derek, can you run
this from Elliott Freeman. This is Elliott on his thirty
two Thoughts, his written version he posted his sports sent
last night. This is what he says on the Canucks,
same sort of thing with what you just said in
the search for a center. The Canucks have made it
clear they don't want to move their twenty twenty six first.
So far they've held to that and we'll see where
(38:12):
things go. The key so far, no, no, the key
that should be an untouchable asset. Don't even try it
if you want to. Like Durants, in his article about Wenberg,
he outlined Victor Mansini and a third round pick I
believe was the return. If you want to go down
that road, sure, go ahead. But at twenty twenty Rick,
you bring it up all the time. This organization part
(38:34):
of their issue right now with no depth, none, zero.
Part of that is constantly robbing Peter to pay Paul.
And Paul's not doing all the hell of a lot.
It's doing one playoff run in a decade and a bit.
So you keep doing this, and this is what I'm saying, Yes, Okay,
Nasmkadri would help this lineup, but help them to get
(38:56):
what help them to go from fifteenth to the National
Hockey League to twelfth? Yeah, like, I don't, I don't understand.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
That's insana Abbey to do something to stop the bleeding.
Never I've covered the Canucks for thirty years in this town.
Fifty years i've been watching them. I have never seen
three Abbys or three players from their farm team play
center for the Canucks. They gotta do something to stop
the bleeding.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
But my point, Brick is there. You stop the bleeding
at the price you're gonna have to pay is not
gonna it's It's like putting a band aid on a
massive wound. Okay, stop playing with three Abbey centers for
the rest of the year. There's a lot of people
in our baside Oza Front Resort inbox that just say
let it ride. Let it ride? Wait wait? Why? Why?
(39:40):
Why go they let it ride?
Speaker 4 (39:41):
They're gonna be at the bottom of the standing and
they're not gonna move the pick anyways, because the first
pick is gonna be first, second or third.
Speaker 1 (39:47):
Right, all, yes, absolutely, but I just don't again, what
do you I just don't know the payoff watching this team.
Your your key injuries right now, because again, I'm sorry,
Philipedo is is unless a miracle how that he's not
returning this year, Let's be honest. Yeah so unless I so,
your key injuries are Neils Hoglander and Teddy Blueger. Yeah,
(40:09):
and Jonathan Karamki, But Neils Hoglander and Teddy Bueger. They
put them back in this line of what are they?
But opening night, what were they? Rick? They barely squeaked
out a win against Calgary, who was playing on a
back to back. I just don't get You're just talking
about these trades and it just scares me that they
are going to make a panic move. They are going
to trade that first round pick. Do what.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
They're in this mess because they had Horvat and Miller
got rid of them. Both never got a center back.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Yeah, no, you're right, speaking of of the Canucks, which
we do pretty much this entire show. Tomorrow night, Montreal
Canadians are in town. Rick, Take a look at this
seat map. This is from Ticketmaster this morning. I apologize
that no, it's it's it's pretty small. But the blue
dots you can see on your screen there again, I
know they're faint, but the blue dots you can see
(40:56):
on your screen, a lot of them in the lower bowl.
Tickets available, and these tickets available.
Speaker 4 (41:02):
Montreal is an absolute easy sellou, right, the Vancouver Canucks.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
So and when I say tickets available, I don't mean
resale by season ticket holders. Tickets available. These blue dots
are tickets available from the Vancouver Canucks. They're from the
box office. They're just available. Seats that have.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
Here's your problem. Those seats aren't gonna be empty tomorrow.
You know why, because Montreal Canadian fans are gonna buy.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
Them probably, yeah, probably probably.
Speaker 4 (41:28):
And the Canucks are lucky because if they're playing Santos
Ay tomorrow, Yeah it's it's an empty rink.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
Yeah, they're lucky.
Speaker 4 (41:34):
But because Montreal fans will buy those up in a heartbeat.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
But regardless, regardless it is, it's I mean, it's telling.
It's telling. It's Montreal on a Saturday night. And I
don't have the I didn't give Derek the photos, but
I tweeted them Sunday. There's tickets available against Edmonton Tuesday
night is arguably the biggest game of the year, right
for the for the for the pomp and circumstance, it's
gonna be. It's arguably the biggest game of the year.
(41:58):
There's tickets available right now. If you want to go
to that Miller game on Tuesday night, you can go ahead.
And people, you know, a lot of people responded to
me it's the pricing. Yeah, for a lot of people,
it is. The prices are way too damn high to
go to these games the same people when the team
is good. People filled the rink last year and they
didn't make the playoffs. Yeah, but I've said this for
a while, Rick, they're gonna hit, They're gonna hit a seat.
(42:19):
Go watch the.
Speaker 4 (42:19):
White Caps, Go watch the Lions, Go watch two franchises
that are doing really well.
Speaker 1 (42:24):
Absolutely, and Sunday, when we're talking about the other game,
you've got the white Caps across the street. You can
potentially do a double dip if you want to do it.
That's an expensive double dip. Yeah, yeah it is. But
I was very surprised to see that Tomorrow night Montreal
on a Saturday, and shut up with the Canucks.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
Go watch the Lions and the white Caps, Go watch
the Vancouver Giants, go watch the Abbaspherd Canucks.
Speaker 1 (42:45):
Yeah, there's a lot of there is options. You're right,
and there's options at a much besser price point. And
the entertainment's still damn good.
Speaker 4 (42:54):
And you want to go watch a good product, go
watch the BC Hockey League, the Western Hockey League. Those
kids work hard, the white they don't make eleven point
six now, and uh, you know they're good kids.
Speaker 1 (43:04):
They work hard. Absolutely, absolutely, Again, I want to reiterate
thank you for the submissions in the Bayside Os Front
Resort inbox. We'll get to them as as things have
gone on. This is from Connor and Abby. Just quickly,
we talk about the dark days of the Canucks and
the history and this era since the Militarde takes the cake,
it's a complete mess. Let it ride, take a top pick,
trade Quinn Biot eleven six, restart the whole thing. It
(43:25):
will never happen with this owner. But this is the
worst era in history. I mean it's dark, man, It's dark,
because what's the.
Speaker 4 (43:34):
Whole four and four just had a three and two
road trip and you're telling me it's dark.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
Because Rick, look at I mean, yeah, okay, they've come back.
They had to come back to winning Dallas, Dallas, So
you're not gonna give them credit for coming back the
way they got the win, but they collapsed and the
Knucks back fat in Washington. You're not gonna give them credit.
That was or nothing on one of the top teams
in the East that was strong. That was strong. But
(43:59):
let's see come Monday though, becast the ten game mark,
they're gonna play two really good teams coming off a
big road trip. Let's see what Monday show looks like quickly.

to Big rather Twitter guy. This is Donnie and Dolly,
the team on check.

This is the unsigned Rick. Reach over and smack Rick
on the side of the head. He sounds like the
clowns that have made this mess. Tank Tank tank.
Speaker 4 (45:58):
Yeah, but you gotta wait a little bit before you
can't tank and make the decision after eight games, Ryan,
can you wait ten, fifteen, twenty games in before they say, hey,
look this is going off the rails. We now have
to absolutely if the season's over. That decision hasn't been
made yet. Ryan, You're not gonna wake up. The Canucks
management did wake up today and think tank. They got
(46:20):
up this morning, started working the phones again, trying to
look for center help because they're bleeding up the middle
of the ice.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
They need help at center.
Speaker 4 (46:28):
The tanking conversation, give it another eight, nine, ten more games.
Speaker 1 (46:32):
I think this submission is coming on the heels of
don't trade the first round pick. And that's where I stand.
That thing should be completely untouchable. And when Elliott is
saying using words like so far you know you saying that,
you know, maybe it scares the hell out of me.
With where this team is at, it just really scares me.
Tonight we've mentioned it World Series happening in the Big Smoke,
(46:53):
the six as they call it. Oh, there's a no,
I won't bring it up because you might have it
in birthdays, but I'll but how about this this Yesterday
was media day in Toronto ahead of the World Series.
This tweet we've got here is from Lindsey Dunn, who
covers the Tonto Blue Jays. She tweeted out, uh, a
(47:15):
little bit of media in Toronto for the World series.
Look at that photo now. First of all, I gotta
say this, Okay, where's the guy being interviewed? Well, there's that.
I don't even know what I think. It's David Schneider
at the bottom there in the bottom left by the
guy in the hat. First of all, like, could we
not is there not a grand ballroom or something we
(47:37):
could put this in?
Speaker 10 (47:38):
Like?
Speaker 1 (47:39):
Why is this? There's some skinny hallway in.
Speaker 4 (47:41):
The broadside's on the left side. They've got players lined
up at tables.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
I know. Okay, but okay, what do you watch? Space
it out a bit more? Come on man. Anyway, it's
the buzz around this. I will say I was a
little bit worried. I thought, you know, Canadian team in
the World Series, how much are the Americans going to care?
Like is it going to be the hype? I know
in this country it'll be hyped up, but will they really?
(48:07):
They're just dude, this is proof that there's people from
far and wide covering this World series. And I've seen
a lot of media members. A lot of baseball media
members in Toronto talking about Toronto, happy to be back
in Toronto for a World Series. This media coverage is
out of control. It is crazy.
Speaker 4 (48:22):
Well, you have one of the most storied franchises in
the history of baseball, the Dodgers. Yeah, though, that is
what they have a huge following. You've got that added
storyline as well.
Speaker 1 (48:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (48:30):
You you have a storied franchise and they keep winning.
Like you and I have talked about this, this isn't
good for baseball. All they do is get their checkbook
out and every year, you know, pay sixty seventy million,
eighty eighty million to one player and their pitching staff.
Look at the money they spend on their pitching staff.
The reason they have the best pitching staff is because
they spent a billion dollars on it in the off season.
Speaker 1 (48:52):
Yeah. Well, and the overall, in my opinion, if the Dodgers,
as much as I joke about wanting a sweep, I
said this earlier in the week, If the Dodgers sweep
the Blue Jays, it's bad for baseball. It's that'll be
such a nothing burger. It won't get any traction. What
they need is they need a series, They maybe need
seven games. And I said, you know, hey, the Dodgers
(49:13):
are maybe might be a bit rusty. They've been off
for a while now, not as long as the Jays.
Maybe the Jays can jump on them tonight. If they
get a split in the first two games, I think
they would be doing cartwheels about that. Oh you want
the split. You don't want to go down to La
down to no no, No. Hit the crow, Nina, do
you have the crow? There's the crow? I elsewhere in the
National Hockey League. Last night you talked about this game earlier.
(49:36):
I watched it. Colorado Carolina. Great game, great game, but
great because of the uniforms specifically oh Man Carolina and
the Hartford Walers white uniforms Colorado and the blue Quebec
Nordiq uniforms on the ice at the same time last night,
and I gotta say, like it was it was an
absolute The game was great again. Carolina five door shootout.
(50:00):
Carolina was up early on the Abs. The Avs came back,
forced into overtime. The shops, I mean, Donnie's the expert
on the blue. The blue pops that pops, but and
the goal both goaltenders, by the way, with the retro gear,
the brown leather outstanding, the blue pops, but the white
and the green really popped as well. As much as
I say white jerseys are boring, I like Hartford's green rope.
(50:20):
Yeah better time time, you know, But that that blue pops.
I watched that game last night after the Canucks loss.
It was a fun game to two powerhouse teams, yeah,
big two powerhouse teams, and they went to Colorado, had
to score a couple of late goals. They went to
the shootout and Jarvis former Portland winterhawck what a beautiful
goal in the shootout. Well, and people bring this up
like I again, I think the NHL needs to relax
(50:43):
their jersey rules, Like this was outstanding to see last night.
And I know you could have. You could have had
the Hartford Whalers green jerseys if you wanted against these
blue ones, and I think it still would have been fantastic.
But in my opinion, whatever era team wants to honor
in their jerseys, let them go nuts, let them be creative.
This was fantastic. Got a lot of buzz on social
media last night, outside of even in the NHL world,
(51:04):
A lot of people paying attention because it looks so
fantastics and a little Ricky used to go to the
Pacific Hall Teume in the eighties. I remember going to
a Quebec game on a Tuesday night. Did these uniforms
were nice? They they're one of the best ones I've
ever seen, These Quebec ones, They're super nice. Did Tony
Tanty score that night? No, Tony Tanty did not score
that night. I remember who scored? Your favorite player? One
(51:28):
of them? Yeah? No, I know, Smiel Garden, Fraser, Gary
loopol Let's keep going. I could be here till Christmas.
Ye Richard berdure YEP. Coming up next, former Canucks head coach,
NHL analyst for TSN and the NHL Network, Bruce Budro.
He's going to talk about the Canucks start eight and
eight or no not eight eight, four and four through
eight games. Got ahead of myself there, maybe they will
(51:52):
be who knows, who knows how long those day five hundred.
Bruce is up next. It's Donny Dully the team I check.

Vancouver Island getaway, head to beautiful Parksville and experience the
Bayside Oceanfront Resort, where every stay feels like a vacation
you'll never forget. Oh yes, We're joined now on this
Friday by former Canucks head coach, NHL head coach and
(52:48):
NHL network analyst Bruce Boudreau. Bruce, thanks for doing this today.
How are you, Sarah, I'm good.
Speaker 11 (52:55):
I'm just an anticipatory fan waiting for the Blue Jays
to come on.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
Ah. Same with Rick. He's got his Blue Jays Hawaiian
shirt on. Today's very excited by this, Bruce, Jays all
the way.
Speaker 9 (53:09):
I'm oping, man.
Speaker 11 (53:10):
They're exciting, They're they're young, they're enthusiastic. I mean, they're
going against the juggernaut. But you know what, I've seen
miracles happen before.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
Absolutely absolutely, hockey Bruce, Canucks wrap up a road trip
last night in Nashville. They finish three and two on
the road trip. They're four and four through eight games.
What are you seeing with the Canucks so far through
eight games?
Speaker 9 (53:33):
Well, I mean to me, they they play hard.
Speaker 11 (53:37):
Uh, I don't think they're they're getting enough scoring from
certain individuals right yet, but hopefully.
Speaker 9 (53:44):
That will come in due time.
Speaker 11 (53:46):
But their goaltending is solid, and you could you could
tell uh uh pot you know, he coaches an awful
lot like Rick Talckett. It's very defensive minded system. I
think you just they got to get their their.
Speaker 9 (54:00):
Top players scoring and.
Speaker 11 (54:02):
They got to get they got to get to health
you a little bit. I mean, they've had quite a
few few injuries early on.
Speaker 9 (54:09):
In the season.
Speaker 1 (54:10):
One talking point Bruce around here has been ice time
and different ice times, and of course Adam Foot learning
on the job a bit. But I'm curious, from your
vantage point when you were behind the bench, how conscious
of you we were, or how conscious were you during
a game of a player's ice time and whether or
not maybe they were down or up or whatever, How
conscious were you of that in the game?
Speaker 11 (54:33):
Very much so, I mean, you know, after every period,
we would get the stats, and if I looked and
I say, for example, Millard j t was only had
three minutes of ice time in the first period, I'd say,
oh my goodness, I got to get him on the
ice more.
Speaker 9 (54:51):
And I would uh, mainly because.
Speaker 11 (54:53):
He plays better when he plays a lot, So I'd
want to get him back up to his six to
seven minutes per period the next day for the next period,
for sure.
Speaker 9 (55:02):
But I'm very conscientious.
Speaker 11 (55:04):
Or even go to the fourth line and say, Jesus,
we're playing the top three lines too much. The fourth
line only played a minute and a half and there
was no penalties. So I mean, I think most coaches
they get those stats and they look at him, and
they know how much ice time they need to get
certain players, and they look at it to make sure
(55:27):
that they're doing the right thing, because I mean, sometimes
you get caught in the moment during the course of
the game, and I mean I've had times where I've
missed a player and I'd say, jeez, did I miss
you guys last year? And they'd say, yeah, so you
want to you know, correct it.
Speaker 4 (55:41):
Hey, Bruce Petterson has been great defensively, he's blocking shots,
but he didn't get eleven point six million to play
well defensively in block shots get points. He's only got
four and eight. Are you surprised he's off points wise
to a slow start.
Speaker 11 (55:56):
Yeah, I am, only because I thought he would be
he would be a point machine this year. But I mean,
I will say, like it was two games ago when
he blocked those two shots at the at the end.
Speaker 9 (56:09):
Of the game, I was so proud of him.
Speaker 11 (56:10):
I mean, superstars, or suppose that superstars don't do that.
I mean, they don't put themselves in that way. But
killing a penalty he did great. But I'm surprised he
doesn't look like he's handling the puck enough. Like to me,
when he's got the puck, then he then things are created.
Speaker 9 (56:30):
I mean he's he.
Speaker 11 (56:33):
Needs to have the puck to be able to draw
people in to make plays. And I mean, I don't
know if his shot has gotten worse.
Speaker 9 (56:41):
He used to have a rocket as far.
Speaker 11 (56:43):
As I know, but I mean I'm hoping that like
it picks up. I remember my first year in Van.
I mean, he had no points when I took over,
very few, and then then he took off.
Speaker 9 (56:54):
So maybe he's just a slow start.
Speaker 11 (56:56):
I don't know, but I think if Vancouver wants to
go anywhere and wants to win, then I mean automatically
that he's got to be the head of the snake.
Speaker 9 (57:07):
He's got to be the guy that creates everything.
Speaker 4 (57:10):
Bruce, did you ever coach a game in the NHL
with three centers from the farm team, Like they've got
Pederson followed by cause heetels out and Blueger's out. They've
got three guys from the farm team playing the other
three center positions.
Speaker 1 (57:24):
Did you ever go through something like that?
Speaker 11 (57:27):
You know what, I don't know if I did or
if I didn't, But be honest, like I mean, every
team has has injuries.
Speaker 9 (57:36):
That has a lot of them at certain points and times.
Speaker 11 (57:38):
I know we've teams have been on have been decimated
by injuries, whether it was three centermen.
Speaker 9 (57:46):
I've had, I've had four defensemen out. I know that.
I don't know.
Speaker 11 (57:49):
Which is worse, but if I I've had obviously some
centers have been injured, but I don't know if I've
ever had three. But I tell you, if I did
have three, Elis would play twenty three minutes a night
because he's the one guy that would be healthy.
Speaker 4 (58:08):
Yeah, no kidding, Quinn Hughes. People are saying he's not
the same Quinn Hughes this year. Are you seeing anything
different from Quinn Bruce?
Speaker 11 (58:16):
Hey, listen, he played twenty nine minutes last last night.
Speaker 1 (58:19):
Yeah, seven on the park.
Speaker 9 (58:20):
Yeah yeah, I mean, I don't see anything different.
Speaker 11 (58:23):
I don't think quite frankly, they have the offensive finishers
that they've had in the last few years to make
it look like his points are up there, he's still,
like I mean, behind Connor Garland the leading scorer or
one of the leading scorers on the team.
Speaker 9 (58:39):
So but you know, like I mean, even when.
Speaker 11 (58:41):
I was there and you had JT, and you had
Besser and and you have you had bo Horvat, you
had you know, you had you had some scorer and PD. Like,
I mean, I don't see that. I see this as
a grinding team. And like I think Garland's a great player,
(59:02):
I mean, hard working and everything. But I mean I
think his max is thirty goals. So I mean, you know,
I mean, you got to you've got to have him
and and Besser to me playing at the top of
their games. And I don't know what they're what their
their magic number is on their potential of scoring goals.
(59:23):
But I mean they do other things right, But I
just see the thirty goal mark being they don't have
a like a forty to fifty goal scorer. If you
were going to take Colorado and look at the guys
that they've got that can score goals, I don't think
that's that's the makeup of the team in Vancouver.
Speaker 1 (59:41):
Elsewhere in the NHL. Bruce last night Montreal and Edmonton,
great game. Montreal will be here tomorrow night. Are they
the top Canadian team for you so far? To the gates?
Speaker 11 (59:51):
I mean, they're right there with Winnipeg is the top
Canadian team, Like I mean, the the one thing I
was telling somebody the other day, I said, you know
what I love about Montreal is is they look like
they're having fun out there and and they're playing with
enthusiasm every night, like I mean last night.
Speaker 9 (01:00:09):
I mean, I think if.
Speaker 11 (01:00:10):
I was Marty, I'd be a little upset but giving
up three goals in the last ten minutes to lose
the game. But at the same time, I mean, they
play with speed, Enthusay, they're not big, but they they're
in your face all night. Long and and I just
think they're taking a step a step forward from what
(01:00:30):
they had last year and they're not digressing it. Listen
that Dobush is the number one goalie in the NHL
and absolutely Montambau and Montembeau is supposed to be on
the on the Canadian Olympic team. So their goaltending is
really solid. As in the history of the Montreal Canadians,
they've had some unbelievable goaltending and I think it's.
Speaker 9 (01:00:50):
Starting out again.
Speaker 11 (01:00:51):
But I think at this moment, between them and Winnipeg,
they're the two best teams in Canada. Toronto's have a
hard time finding their way. Ottawa has been other than
last night, has been pretty poors defensively. I don't want
to talk about Calgary because they're really struggling and it
doesn't look like it's going to get any easier for them.
(01:01:13):
So I mean, so that those are the Canadian teams.
I think that where they stand right now. But the
first ten games in the NHL are a feeling out process.
It's so different than the last seventy two.
Speaker 9 (01:01:30):
I mean, look at some of the scores last night.
Speaker 11 (01:01:32):
I mean, it's loose hockey, it's sloppy hockey and hopefully
it'll the better defensive teams usually end up being the best.
Speaker 4 (01:01:41):
Hey, Bruce, Chicago four two and two, the plus five
and the goal differential. It's just the year that kind of,
you know, start moving up the standings for you.
Speaker 11 (01:01:52):
I'm thinking it's a great start for Chicago and I'm
happy for them, but I don't think I think in
the end they're going to be there's still gonna be
at the bottom with Santos, okay. Uh And that's just
it's you know, you get enthusiastic, you get these starts,
I mean, and you go, well, it's just like saying
is Tampa Bay and we end up in the last place.
(01:02:12):
I think when it's all said and done, they're gonna
they're gonna get it to get their stuff together and
and and be in the mix again.
Speaker 9 (01:02:20):
But I like the way Chicago's playing.
Speaker 11 (01:02:23):
I think that Naser is turning into a pretty good player,
but uh I and obviously Spencer Night feels comfortable now
there and he's playing great in goal. But I still
think they're a little a little bit of ways from
being a potential playoff team.
Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
Bruce has always thanks so much for doing this and
enjoy your Blue Jays in the World Series.
Speaker 11 (01:02:45):
I'll be there with a Diet coke in hand.
Speaker 1 (01:02:51):
Are you are you gonna be at the game or
are you watching on TV? No?
Speaker 9 (01:02:54):
No, I'm watching it on TV. I get too nervous
of these things. I'm just a fan in this stuff.
That's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
Have a great time, Bruce, and thanks again for joining
us today. Really appreciate it.
Speaker 9 (01:03:04):
No problem anytime.
Speaker 1 (01:03:05):
Former NHL coach ts n NHL Network analyst Bruce Bouder
on the show. And you know that ten game thing, Rick,
I know what he's saying. Like, I looked at the
scoreboard last night. Some teams wait for right right well,
and we've always heard about the American Thanksgiving and that's
kind of the big line for a playoff future and
all of that. But some of the score lines last night,
(01:03:25):
I mean, he is right. I mean there were goals.
It didn't not happening in Nashville, let me tell you,
But there were goals elsewhere to be had. It wasn't
exactly a defensive juggernaut until all NHL last night last night.
Speaker 4 (01:03:37):
Yay and the Colorado Carolina Yeah, oh my goodness, was
that fun to watch?
Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
Absolutely absolutely. Up next, we'll recap the pole question we're
not recappable'll touch on the pole questions some more and
talk more about the Canucks of this weekend. Ahead, it's
Donni and Dolly the team on check.

So go ahead check that out. Ricky pole question.
Speaker 4 (01:05:02):
All right, Nina, get her up the pole question of
the day, the waddling dob Pole question, which Canucks players
performance the most concerning through eight games of the season.
You got Patterson, Hughes, Tobrusk, and Kane. No surprise, you're
Patterson leading at fifty four percent. Then comes Hughes at
twenty nine percent. Eleven hundred votes. Is hopping and bopping
(01:05:22):
on a Friday morning. But Patterson's got to get going,
especially if he puts up zeros this weekend. Right, he's
gonna have four points to ten games. That's thirty two
point average for the year.
Speaker 1 (01:05:34):
That's not good. Well, and again I brought this up earlier, Rick,
I know, obviously everybody's gonna look at the points and
the goals and all that. I'm not shooting. That's not
carrying the pockets. It's equally as concerning to me, like
why this guy's not shooting? Like Jake Debresk has one goal,
it's on the power play. He does not have an
even strength goal. This change's got no goals. And who's
our buddy in Edmonton? Told us Bob Staffer Stoffer and
(01:05:54):
I texted Stafford a lot. Right.
Speaker 4 (01:05:56):
I ripped into him, I go, where's your twenty twenty
five goals for kay.
Speaker 1 (01:05:59):
Yeah, that's right, and Kane is getting a lot of
heat in our inbox. But you know, with the Brusque,
I don't have the totals in front of me. But
he shoots quite a bit. He gets a lot of
shots at least a way in the game. And he's
a very streaky scorer. We know that, we've seen that
since he's been here in Vancouver with Peterson Again, like
we bring it up one shot on goal in the
way through the third period and this is after five
(01:06:20):
power plays five phase. That's the thing.
Speaker 4 (01:06:23):
If you're not shooting five on five, okay, fine, you know,
but how are you not shooting in the power play
and that's that's the big one. And a two man
advantage for ninety seconds late in the first and you
still don't get a shot on that.
Speaker 1 (01:06:37):
Yeah, I just don't. I don't. I don't get it.
I don't get the double butcher skill is it takes
over on the power play well, And to be honest,
that's a lot of the frustration in the inbox towards him.
He doesn't shoot, he doesn't shoot, he doesn't shoot well,
he's not scoring, he's not getting assisted right, but it
starts with the shooting like people are like, why is
he so scared to just shoot the buck? I don't understand.
(01:06:58):
I mentioned it earlier though. Positive out of last night's
game was Max Sassin oh or as you call him, Maxisan.
Speaker 4 (01:07:05):
Maxisan, great kid. I love this guy. Watch this here,
here's the term, here's the separation speed and boom right
through the legs and a beautiful goal. This guy's got
three goals in five games. Let me tell you something.
This guy's got more goals than all the other Abbey
forwards combined. Bains Carlson, Lakaramaki and Ratu have a combined
one goal. This guy's come up three games, three goals,
(01:07:29):
second on the team five games. This guy should never
ever be sent back to Abersbord, especially speed reasons. Why
look at the speed speed last night he scored on
this road trip. When no one's got this guy, you know,
no one's got this guy's speed. He should never see
abasburd Ice ever again. And if when everybody gets healthy, okay,
(01:07:49):
now keep this in mind, they're gonna have to start
sending these Abbey guys back to Avisburg. Some of them
are gonna require waivers, and I have no question you're
gonna see guys on waivers and you're not going to
see this guy go back down.
Speaker 1 (01:08:02):
You mentioned it Rick three goals in five games. He
had three goals in twenty nine games last season. He's
already matched his total from last year already.
Speaker 4 (01:08:10):
Here's another one for you. When he was coming out
of college, there was twenty teams after him, including the Bank.
He picked Vancouver. Yeah, he picked Vancouver because he thought
it was the best opportunity. There was a lot of
good teams, like some of the top teams in the
NHL were after Sassan and he said, no, I'm gonna
go where I'm gonna have the best opportunity. And again, noticeable,
that's the biggest thing. And we're seeing you know, speed,
(01:08:31):
you get anyone with speed gets noticed. But he is
scoring a ton of breakaway goals. That's the greatest thing
about him. It's his finish and his touch.
Speaker 1 (01:08:38):
Ye.
Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
He I think all three of his goals have been
on breakaways. That's impressive. Well, and you brought it.
Speaker 1 (01:08:44):
Up to the pull away speed last night. The way
he went around the.
Speaker 4 (01:08:47):
Defense separation, he's separating himself from other players and not everyone.
Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
Has that, So that was an impressive part of last
night's Cannuck's loss again losing two to one, end of
the road trip. Finish up the road trip three and
two home. Two games this weekend Montreal Hinton, Big one
on Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (01:09:04):
And if that your dempico is not getting enough play
the shots on goal with thirty one sixty Nashville when
Nashville took the lead to one, Ryan, he's been the
best Canucks so far? Is that your dempco. It's not
been Garland or Sherwood or whatever you want. That your
dempko has been the best Canuck.
Speaker 1 (01:09:22):
And I heard you yelling at Brough this morning about
Team USA Team USA's watch.
Speaker 4 (01:09:25):
And I talked to my Team USA source last night
and he said, yeah, we are super impressed with Thatcher.
I will be if he keeps us up. I'll be
shocked if that. If that your DEMPKO is not going
to the Olympics, Yeah, yeah, along with Quinn Hughes. Whether
or not Quinn Hues will be representing the Canucks by
that time, I'm not sure.
Speaker 1 (01:09:42):
Oh, we should mention again this weekend, two big games
for the local teams here in the BC Lions in
Saskatchewan tomorrow, four o'clock start. I wanted to mention this
Cody Fajardo, quarterback of the Edmonton Elks, former BC line
of course, yep. He the Elk's lost last weekend. They're
out mathematically, they're done. He talked to post Media this week.
(01:10:06):
He believes the Lions are his favorite to win the
Great Cup. Why what a quarterback of another time? I
know I was a bit surprised, but he said, but
he could be playing mind games. He could be playing
maybe part of the quote. In my opinion, that's a
Great Cup winning football team. It's going to be really,
really tough facing that team. So Cody Fajardo, with kind
words about his former franchise, so helped me out. I'm
gonna have trouble. I've already told the family, you're not
(01:10:28):
gonna see a lot of me other than on the couch.
And they went listen to God and they said, thank God,
but listen, four o'clock tomorrow is the Lions. Yes, four
o'clock tomorrow is the Canucks. Yes? When when's the World
Series game? Tomorrow? Five? Five? Okay?
Speaker 4 (01:10:42):
So I'm not a two to three four TV guy. Yeah,
so I gotta go. I gotta flip back and forth. Okay,
you're the guy with the man cave.
Speaker 1 (01:10:50):
I mean, I don't know how in twenty twenty five
you don't at least have one other screens. I don't
have a screen.
Speaker 4 (01:10:56):
I have one television in my lame or my main
living room, and the living room is lame too, But anyways,
only one TV in my living room.
Speaker 1 (01:11:04):
I don't know how. I can't count one downstairs? Yeah,
I know, but how do you not have at least
two screens side by side?
Speaker 4 (01:11:11):
At least I can barely concentrate on one the game
at a time.
Speaker 1 (01:11:16):
I'm not gonna watch stop. Nathan Rourke, by the way,
who was on the program earlier this week, seventy eight
yards away from five thousand on the season, So I mean,
another amazing year for Nathan Rourke. And he's Canadian, and
he's Canadian. So if they beat Saskatchewan tomorrow, they will
host that playoff game against Calgary next Saturday, November the first.
Speaking of the playoffs, white Caps Sunday game number one
(01:11:40):
against Dallas. The white Caps, by the way, announced they
are on pace to break their playoff record in terms
of attendance they're expecting a crowd of over thirty thousand.
There's certain sections of the upper bowl that are open. Now.
It's the two seed versus the seventh seed. The Caps
beat Dallas back in March one. Nothing lost last weekend,
but they were down to man against Dallas, so we'll
(01:12:01):
see and we should mention by the way as well,
they've got three finalists for MLS Year and Awards. Coach
of the Year, Yespershornson, not a surprise.
Speaker 4 (01:12:10):
Oh, he's great. I love that guy. He should win
Coach of the Year, hands down.
Speaker 1 (01:12:13):
Goalkeeper of the Year finalists Yo Hey taka Oka, Yeah,
good goalie, and Defender of the Year finalist Tristan Blackman,
who's expected to be back in the lineup, is expected
to be available for the white Caps on Sunday in
game number one, So they're gonna get Tristan Blackman in.
Of course, he's been out since the Canadian Championship game
where he got injured, so that'll be a big boost
to them. That is on Sunday Lions tomorrow, along with
(01:12:36):
the World Series two games and the Canucks ABMs for
Cannucks Tonight ABMs Ford Cannucks Tonight banner raising celebration called
So there's a ton happening on the local sports scene
and we'll recap it all on Monday as well. Pastime Sports, Ricky,
you're gonna tell us about that.
Speaker 4 (01:12:50):
Look at this check out the largest selection of sports
member billy autographed items, trading cards and collectible games of
Western Canada Pastime Sports Saturday and a number twenty second
Pastime in Langley. Jake Nebrusque exclusive in store signing. Jonathan
Lacaramaki also will be signing. Details to be announced. And
then our good pal Trevor Lindon has partnered up with
(01:13:12):
Pastime Sports for a private autograph event. Details on that
available at Pastime Sports dots.
Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
A japot signing siding with you who has more than
one TV screen in their living room? It's only for
these young kids like you. I don't have two in
my living room. I think Halford has two in his
living room.
Speaker 4 (01:13:30):
It's for that suppressed young kids like you with these
man caves and five hundred TVs.
Speaker 1 (01:13:35):
I'm not into that. Does this too much to keep
track of? You got to stay on top of it.
Speaking of keeping track on things, We're gonna head to
DTMZ next you've got birthdays. It's Donnie and Olvick the
team on CHECKY.
Speaker 4 (01:13:51):
It's eleven thirty three on a Friday morning. Donnie Dolly
on check TV. Now time for DTMZ, brought to you
by the world famous Whistler Golf Club.
Speaker 1 (01:13:58):
Go see Big l Out, Derek Track, Great Track. DTMZ
is brought to you by the Arnold Palmer Design Whistler
Golf Club. And we're gonna do something a little different
on Fridays year. We have a photo overire candidate, Curtsy,
Big Al and Whistler Golf. This is from Bob Inglish.
I hope you're getting your name right. Take it on
the sixteenth t this past summer at beautiful Whistler Golf.
(01:14:20):
Look at that you got the rainbow in the background.
That is super nice. So that is Bob Ingliss took
that photo at Whistler Golf this year and a reminder
for weekly updates on their current construction progress follow them
on Instagram at Whistler Golf. So thank you for the
photo and we're gonna do that on Fridays. A few
Fridays we're gonna highlight some photos Curtsy, Big Al and
the Whistle golf club. Okay, this is something a little
(01:14:41):
bit different for DTMZ. Yesterday on the Blair and Barker
Show in Toronto, Rick MLB Commissioner Rob Manford on their
program and they asked them about the topic of expansion
and whether or not Vancouver could be a possibility.
Speaker 12 (01:14:57):
What I've said about expansion, you know, Tampa, Oakland's resolve,
Tampa's on the road to resolution. I'm hopeful that once
we get through the next round of bargaining, we can
turn to an active expansion process where cities start to
submit materials to a committee and we try to pick
(01:15:20):
two cities. We definitely need an Eastern time zone city
and we need a Western time zone city just for
format purposes. Even if you don't realign, you still want
to do that. I think Vancouver is a great city.
I think that you know, Canada has been unbelievably supportive
(01:15:44):
of Major League Baseball. You know, I can't say enough
about the support that the Blue Jays have received. I
happen to be in Western Canada this summer was absolutely
blown away by the blue Jay gear. The talk about
the Blue Jays, how into it they are.
Speaker 10 (01:16:06):
You know, the Seattle club will tell you that, you know,
the best series they have year in and year out
is when the Blue Jays come to visit and when
a ton of people from Canada come over to watch
the games.
Speaker 9 (01:16:19):
So I mean, I think all of that is in dishear.
Speaker 12 (01:16:21):
The fact that you know, another city in Canada clearly
could work for us, that is interesting.
Speaker 1 (01:16:29):
Well, I love that another city in Canada could clearly
work for us. He did start though, by saying, if
they expand one east and one in the west, so
east in the USA or Montreal or Montreal? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:16:44):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:16:44):
Do they consider going back to Montreal? Is that a possibility?
Speaker 4 (01:16:47):
So let's look at Vancouver. We lost the Grizzlies because
the Canadian dollar was horrible. They were losing too much money.
They weren't winning. There is no baseball stadium here. You
need a state of the art baseball stadium that's not here.
You don't need millionaire owners, you need billionaire owners. Ryan
with the B who's a billionaire owner in Vancouver that
wants Jimmy Patterson's name always used to pop up when
(01:17:11):
we talk baseball. We talked by the Lions, we talked
by the Canucks. Jimmy Patterson's name always popped up in Vancouver.
I don't think Jimmy wants to be involved with pro
sports anymore. But the point is, who's got the billions
and billions of money dollars? Who's got the brand new
ballpark in Vancouver?
Speaker 1 (01:17:31):
It's tough.
Speaker 4 (01:17:32):
Well there's the other You got a baseball player for
the LA Dodgers making seventy five million a year. Who
in Vancouver has got the money to pay one guy
seventy five million?
Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
Well, and the other part Rick, you just brought up
about the ballpark, ballpark? Where do you say a ballpark?
Not only from a financial standpoint, but look at the
Vancouver Canucks right now. I haven't been able to find
a plot of land to build a practice facility. Thank you.
That's a much smaller footprint than a baseball stadium. Thank you.
I appreciate it. And I know there's a small section
I shouldn't say a small section. There's a section of
(01:18:02):
people out here that would love to see it. I
don't necessarily know it would be supported here a full
eighty one games of home games here in Vancouver. I
know people right now are in Blue Jays fever and
they would love to have an MLB team here. I
just don't know, man, I don't know. When I look
around this sporting landscape in this market, I see empty
(01:18:26):
venues for teams not named the Vancouver Canucks. Yeah, why
would that change and be supporting baseball? Where baseball? When
their payroll, as you bring up, is so large.
Speaker 4 (01:18:36):
And here's another one for you. They played sometimes what
twelve games in a row at home. Yeah, so you're
trying to tell me twenty thirty forty thousand people in
Vancouver are gonna go twelve days on the road.
Speaker 1 (01:18:44):
Exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:18:45):
That's a tough exactly. And here's the other one for you.
Every major corporation is left Vancouver. Then they went to Toronto.
Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
And do you want to know why Toronto can afford
the raptors, blue jays, maple leafs, A lot of corporate dollars,
a lot of corporate dollars are all in Toronto, They're
not in Vancouver. It was interesting, nonetheless, and the commissioner
not shooting down Vancouver is interesting. And maybe it's just posturing.
It was an interesting clip, though. Birthday's time.
Speaker 4 (01:19:08):
All right, here we go, let's go Nina, get her up.
The fourth four birthdays.
Speaker 1 (01:19:12):
Brought to you by Ricky D's four birthdays. You're working
hard on this.
Speaker 4 (01:19:15):
Say hey, hold in a second, I can't make birthdays up.
If there's only four birthdays, I can't make them up.
Do you want me to make them up? My buddy
Ernie Punch mcclean's birthdays next month. You want me to
do it today? I can't now anyways. Artwork supplied by
Mario in Richmond.
Speaker 1 (01:19:30):
Here we go.
Speaker 4 (01:19:31):
Yeah, you guys aren't going to get this anyways. One
of the most popular, one of my Canucks, one of
the most popular Canucks of all time. Tony tant now
Stop played a huge role on the Canucks run to
the Stanley Cup Finals in nineteen eighty two.
Speaker 1 (01:19:46):
Became the first nah.
Speaker 4 (01:19:48):
Stop it first defenseman in Canucks' history to score on
a penalty shot in nineteen eighty I remember this, little
Ricky remembers this name the Canucks best day, You guys
pathetic named the Canucks best defenseman four times between nineteen
ninety seven and nineteen eighty two.
Speaker 1 (01:20:08):
Paul Ryan hir No, Paul Reinhardt wasn't here four years.
He was here a very short time. This guy's got
a big, thick star mustache. Babbage No. Oh number twenty seven. Oh,
Harold Snaps.
Speaker 4 (01:20:25):
Harrol snaps, you guys are absolutely pathetic and you're all
twenty five years old.
Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
That's why you didn't get it exactly. Yeah, yeah, anyways,
the Harrold snaps. I love Snaps. Accept the overtime goal
in Game one of the Stanley Cup Finals. He coughed
it up to Mike BOSSI. I'll never forgive him for that,
but I do love Harold all right. This forward played
ten years in the NHL, all with the Calgary Flames.
I wanna Stanley Cup in nineteen eighty nine. Atlanta Flames
(01:20:51):
selected him fourth overall No. In the fourth round in
nineteen seventy nine. This is another one the Okay, at
least you should know this, Ryan. The Canucks were dominating
overtime Game seven against Calgary nineteen eighty nine, and this
player banked the puck into the net off Joel Atto Skal. Yeah.
(01:21:13):
Is there a single birthday Jim Sandlight, No, he's a flame.
This guy's account was the initial p I JP, I
have no idea in are you guys past.
Speaker 4 (01:21:34):
Twenty years old? Poplinski? Oh yeah, I loved Jim plisk
He was great. He was a really good player. All right,
I know you're going to get this one.
Speaker 1 (01:21:41):
This is a one of the world's best selling artists,
holds the record for most number one rap single Drake
see no. This is interesting though. It's Drake's birthday and
Game one okay of the World series in Toronto. You
checked you do that? How would you know?
Speaker 8 (01:21:58):
That?
Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
Popped up from me earlier? Then you should have shut
up and let them do it. That's true, That's all right.
Speaker 4 (01:22:03):
Last one, good actor, A good actor, friend of mine,
not friend, but one of my best actors. This actor
won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in his
role in A Fish Called Wanda back in nineteen eighty eight.
Speaker 1 (01:22:18):
Great Movie.
Speaker 4 (01:22:20):
He made his film debut in Sophie's Choice. Sophia's Choice
in nineteen eighty two, starting opposite on Meryl Street.
Speaker 1 (01:22:29):
You Guys Are Pathetic.
Speaker 4 (01:22:30):
Nineteen ninety nine, he played opposite Will Smith. Good movie,
Wile Wild West, k k Kevin Klein, Yes, and his
wife is Phoebe Kates.
Speaker 1 (01:22:44):
Phoebe. You guys knows Phoebe Kate, Phoebe Kates. Yeah, we know.
Derek and Rick Klein, we know you Ah, there's a
scene I heard by a swimming pool again, mitas point
stands in a red key. Okay. Phoebe Kate's okay, as
married to Calvin Klet. Kevin Klett, Yeah, is that good?
(01:23:11):
You're done? Phoebe Kate's us older people remember Phoebe Kate's Okay.
You did miss one birthday, Nina you. This is Bill
Wyman original Rolling Stones basist Okay, and he's turning eighty
nine years old today he's on base with the Stones
and they're hit under My Thumb, released in nineteen sixty six.
This is Under My Thumb and the Stones Bill Wyman
on base. Is it just me? He's coming up next
(01:23:32):
to Donny Dolly.
Speaker 4 (01:23:46):

(01:24:31):
Come sentence day time now for is it just me?
And a reminder all of our submissions going into our
Bayside Oceanfront resort inbox book now at Bayside Resort, Parksville
dot com. Niki started this off.
Speaker 4 (01:24:45):
Connuc should have done what Montreal did. Look at all
the great young talent they have that's from Troy and Delta.
You know, I got a quick Lane Hudson story. There
were some scouts in Vancouver that didn't think Hudson was
going to be a player. He was on there do
not for a while and then he was taken off.
But there was some in Vancouver that thought he could
be a player. And it's just the importance of scouts,
(01:25:08):
Ryan and their opinions of players at such a young age, right,
and they stayed away from Lane Hudson and they didn't
draft him. A lot of teams were in the same
boat though, they thought he was too small and look
at him He's just a phenomenal talent.
Speaker 1 (01:25:20):
And making a lot of bank too after his recent
contract extension Jesse from Bear Mountain. Is it just me
or does the body language issue throughout the team show
they know their season is basically over already unless Alvin
can find a legitimate too. See, I have a hard
time believing that the players would be thinking that way
he came in.
Speaker 4 (01:25:39):
You're not thinking seasons over? I don't think so. I
do believe those players Ryan would like some help. They
would like some of the guys to return from the
injured list, and they would like some new fresh bodies
in town, especially up the middle of the ice.
Speaker 1 (01:25:52):
Yeah, but those guys also need to look in and
they also need to improve their play too. On this roster.
You can talk about the centers all day long, rate,
but Evander Kaine, right, Jake debrask Yes, Lest Pederson obviously
at the top of the list. R Hughes. They all
need to play better, no matter if you want to
bring in some kind of beast.
Speaker 4 (01:26:09):
They got seven guys from Abbitsburg and the light up Brian,
and they got five guys injured.
Speaker 1 (01:26:14):
So then how do you explain the power play though?
What other NHL. Stop, what other NHL team's got eight nine?
The farm team on their team? That that is true?
That is true. Uh. While the can owners are feasting
on prime, prime rib, lobster and caviar, they're serving their
fans a ham sandwich. Craig and vanner hoof, First of all,
don't knock a ham sandwich A good ham sandwich. I
(01:26:35):
got no problem with that. I'm a peanut butter jelly
guy over ham like a hen. Oh yeah, peanut butter jelly.
Then I dip it into milk. But listen, are you
three years old? You dip it into milk? Oh? Yeah,
I can't eat it? What do you mean it? It
helps with the flavor. I dip it in, dip, I
(01:26:55):
dip my peanut butter and jelly into milk. Well, who
doesn't do that? I've never done I've never even heard cookies? Yeah,
what kind of jelly? Who cares? What kind of jelly? Jelly? Jab?
I use a raspberry jam. I think raspberry jam is
the best.
Speaker 8 (01:27:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:27:11):
And then what kind of brad who cares? Brown bread?
That the whole week, whole wheat and milk. Yes, I
dip it in. Who doesn't do that? Am? I the
only guy. Yes, yeah, you're the only guy. Yes, all right,
apparently that's disgusting. Here's another one here. Yeah, oh we
already did the tank one. H Is it just me?
(01:27:32):
This is from Adian from Abbotsford. Is it just me?
Or is it time for this team to be honest
and head for a rebuild. Don't trade the future for
marginal help on a team that's a few country miles away.
And that was my point that I was getting at early.
The thing that scares me is that twenty twenty six
first round pick potentially not being untouchable, which is just
(01:27:52):
nuts to me. If you want to make a trade
for some short term help like drants laid out and
a maclin Stellar or that's in a Victor Mancini trade
for Alex Wenberg, got a San Jose or something like that,
Pabozakay Okay, look yeah, a small piece like that, and
they're stuck. That's fine, they're stuck right now. I know
(01:28:15):
the Abbey guys have got too many injuries. You got
to do something.
Speaker 4 (01:28:17):
No National Hockey League team has three American Hockey League
centers up the middle of the ice, and.
Speaker 1 (01:28:22):
At the same time they're also five hundred. Yeah, so
give them credit. Yeah, if they trade a center, it'll
help them get to the mushy middle and still miss
the playoffs. Perfect storm is to blow it up. Nick
from Vic, we're getting a lot of that today. Donnie
would be very proud to be in here today because
there's a lot of rebuilt talk. What it'll be on
Monday if they go down to two games, this weekend
(01:28:44):
could be interesting. One last one quickly before we had
to break Mano and chiliwac Is. It's just me, But
shouldn't Dolly Well know that Elvis had three TVs in
his living room at Graceland.
Speaker 4 (01:28:54):
Elvis also lived in a mansion. I don't live in
a mansion.
Speaker 1 (01:28:57):
You have a very big house. Just listen to me.
Speaker 4 (01:28:59):
Elvis to mention he was a billionaire, he's gonna have
five hundred TV.
Speaker 1 (01:29:03):
Yeah, he's got And think about it though, back in
the day for him to have three screens, that's like
the size of this room. In TVs, Elvis was Elvis
was the best. Yeah, nobody came close to Elvis. Elvis
Presley was the best entertainer of all time. And it's
not close hound Dog Jailhouse, right, Oh? I can listen
to it all day up. Next to our final segment
(01:29:23):
of the week, Stania and Ally the team. I check, oh,
seeing this is one of the knocks problems. They're no listening,
they're not listening to this enough and they're struggling. The
offense would take flight if this, if this was playing
(01:29:45):
at Rogers Arena regularly. We know they don't like us
and they're not gonna play this. Maybe this weekend. Who
maybe Maybe that's Patrick Carnandez and it's hitting Born to
be Alive, Great shong, a staple on this show. I'm
tapping my feet right, I bet you are. I bet
you are with your PBNJ. Time now to wrap up
the pole question for the TV edition of the program
Experience one of Victoria's iconic stays, iconic destination, sorry, sleep
(01:30:08):
sip stock up, all in one, legendary spot. Come sit
and stay at the Waddling Dog today. Rick all right, Nina,
get her up the Wattling Dog. Poll question, which Cannuck
players performance most concerning after eight games? Peterson Hughes to
brass Kane. No surprise here. Patterson leeds at fifty four percent,
but Hughes is not far behind Ryan at th twelve
hundred votes is hopping and bopping on a Friday morning.
(01:30:30):
Yeah yeah, And look, I'm surprised, like there's a lot
of people critical of Quinn Hughes in our baside ocean
front resort Inbox today. And like I said, I was
a little surprised at what we saw at a Quinn
last night in this frustration level in Nashville. We have
one photo photo you want to show Nina get her up.
Speaker 4 (01:30:47):
Look at this, I'm walking. This was last weekend. I
was going from Trevor Linden's gym. Now what are you
laughing at? I'm going from Trevor Linden's jim and over
to the dollar store to pick up some stuff for
the dogg O the Lee, O the dog, and I run.
Speaker 1 (01:31:01):
Into Ryan's mom. Ryan's mom right there. I'm leaving Trevor
Linda's gym. And look at this, Diane. I took a
picture with Diane. I ripped you. I ripped you. Yeah,
it's kind of what it looked like. I ripped you hard.
I know, I ripped you hard to your mom. Your
mom's a wonderful person. Your dad is too. But anyways,
there's mamma Henderson. I saw her last weekend as a
(01:31:25):
highlight of her whole weekend outside.
Speaker 4 (01:31:27):
The dollar store. Yea, and there's Mama Henderson, very very
nice lady.
Speaker 1 (01:31:31):
Yeah, Nita's right there. It looks like you're like grabbing
her by the neck to take that. That's a selfie.
You gotta put your I understand, I hate selfie. I
had to put my hand on it. Yeah, but there's
a Mamma Henderson. Great photo last week and she was
honored to take that photo of me. I'm sure I
want to get this in quick.
Speaker 4 (01:31:49):
Dan and no, Dan and Surrey and James and Duncan
they backed you up to take back me up.
Speaker 1 (01:31:55):
Peanut butter and jam dip it in milk. Yeah, okay, Dan,
it's sorry. James and Duncan. Thank you. When you're watching
sports this weekend. You go ahead and have that PB
and JA every day. I have a peanut butter every day.
Have a great weekend, everybody, Try and stay dry. It's
gonna be a soggy one. We'll be back on Monday
to recap everything going on at the Canucks, the Lions,
the white Caps. It's a big weekend. Go Dodgers. This
(01:32:18):
is Donnie and Dolly, the team I check.
Speaker 2 (01:32:27):
