Speaker 2 (00:06):
Thanks for listening to the Donnie and Dolly podcast. Catch
the show Monday through Friday, ten am to noon on Check.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
I think you're gonna want to hear this.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Your local sports coverage lives here.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Sure what I says to an overly curved super blade.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Do Nothing Blue with John Taylor.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
I say that the winner of the draft lottery should
be the winner.

Speaker 4 (00:28):
Of a two man loosh and Rick Dolly Wall, I
had a cherry tree up a little Ricky.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
I used to go up that tree and just sit
there for hours and bunch on those cherries.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Years Donnie and Dolly.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Friday. Friday's edition of the program has a rhyme, Oh,
I am Ryan Henderson alongside Rick Dolly Wall for another
edition of Donnie and Dollie, I'm sitting in my usual
spot today. Why where? Why are you not sitting here? Well,
I didn't want to be that close to you. Actually,
after a month off, get first to say that I'm
just kidding. No, Nina Savage is an assignment today. She

(01:01):
had other plans, so she's got the day off. So
it's you, me and Derek in the room today. For
the Friday edition of the show, Ring.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Okay, So Derek, this is awkward because you know, yeah,
they're split screen better.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
You were barking at Derek show, demanding things, demanding.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
I want the split screen. I don't want the empty chair.
Donnie should be there. Donnie's got Fridays off, well deserved. Yeah,
only only Hall of Famers get Fridays off.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Only Hall of Famers. And taylorm is saying other media
members now are coming up to him, saying that they're
now thinking about that same cut idea as well.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Well, they might want to become Hall of Famers before
they ask for Fridays off.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
That's a good point. That's a good point. So it
is Friday, head of a weekend, and what a weekend
is that we have in stored. It's going to be unbelievable.
In between the final Canucks preseason game tonight seven o'clock
at Rogers Arena. Some storylines out of that of course,
as well tons tons of what's happening with the roster,
final roster decisions will be made over the weekend. Uh.

(02:02):
Then tomorrow it's the start of the MLB postseason for
two well for the local team, the Seattle Mariners and
also the Toronto Blue Jays, Canada's team, Canada's team game
for both teams, it's Canada's team you want.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Did you see the ratings for the Blue Jays final
ratings No. Two point six million two points, the highest
rated Blue Jays game in history on Sportsnet. And so
what is that telling you? The country is behind the
Blue Jays. You need to get behind I'm not. You
need to stop Mariner's crap. They're an American team two

(02:41):
hours down the highway.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Who cares? Well, I see and this cares. I will
say this is a little bit tough for me because
a lot of people know I was a Red Sox fan. First.
That was my first love in baseball. This is a
Boston Red Sox fan because it went right around when
they won in four. I was thirteen, so I was
getting into having favorite teams beyond the Canucks, and so
the Red Red Sox really took to me. So now

(03:04):
as a half Red Sox half Mariners fan, as my
Red Sox side having to cheer for the Yankees because
I want the Jays to go down. However, I also
want the Jays, but I also want the Jays to
miss the Alcs. Along with the Mariners, and we would
have an all time ALCS locally, at least between the
Mariners and Jays. That would be unbelievable. If that could.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Happen, the World Series returning to Canada would be a massive,
massive We have a long way to ninety ninety three,
Joe Carter? How many times do I gotta shay? Ninety
two ninety three?

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Joe Carter?

Speaker 4 (03:38):
I was right there, touch them all. Everybody was watching,
we were all at parties. I was up north, and
I'm telling you, when Joe Carter hit that homer, it
was a glorious moment.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Coast to coast. We want to see that was it?
Are you serious? So that's happening in the MLB tomorrow,
but we should also mention locally here beyond the the Lions.
The Gravy Bowl for the Lions happening tomorrow night at
BC Place. Tomorrow afternoon, Yeah, tomorrow afternoon, Sorr. Yeah, four

(04:09):
o'clock would you love? Are you a boy?

Speaker 4 (04:12):
I don't like the four o'clock starts. I'm a seven
o'clock sports guy. I don't like anything before seven o'clock.
Now listen to the importance of this game, right, yeah,
it's big Lions stam Peters Blue Bombers all got sixteen points.
This is going down to the wire. Who gets that
home playoff tape? They are opening up the upper Bowl
yeah for this game. That means tickets are going.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
Well.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Let's see if they can hit thirty thousand the BC
lines tomorrow and let's give a let's go who's ripper?

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Where's the Mike? Benavide's rippers? You love them? I was
ripping the d not the coach.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
And the Lions defense has come around, all these people
ripping Benavide's how are you looking now? And Benavite's doing
a good guy, Palamine, He's doing a good job. The
defense is playing well. Nathan didn't have a great game
last week, but he's going to need one tomorrow because
the stamp Peters Lions kicked their ass two weeks ago. Yeah,
they want revenge. Yeah, so a Lions Stamp Peters that's

(05:06):
gonna be a big game tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Well, and a couple of things. So if the Lions
win tomorrow, they can clinch a playoff berth So that
would obviously be big for them, not the home playoff date,
but if they win tomorrow, they can clinch a playoff
berth at the very least, they're also retiring. So Solomon
Alamimian's number fifty six at halftime, He's going to go
into the BC Lions Wall of Fame. And what a
great I mean, yeah, it was Solomon l and Adam Bill. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
They two dominated yet dominated in Vancouver for years as
Solomon went on to be the CFLPA president. Just a
great guy, great interview, great player. And the BC Lions
are going to put him in the what the Wall
of Fame Hall of Fame tomorrow? Yeah, yeah, and a
really good job. He was a treat to cover. He
was a tremendous linebacker. Him and Adam Big Hill, they

(05:53):
just were great for years together in there on defense.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Good for him. One other thing for the Lions. By
the way, they're doing a pumpkin pie eating contest on
Terry Fox Plaza tomorrow, pumpkinkin pie eating contest. I eat
the seeds. Pumpkin seeds like, bake them.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Buy pumpkin seeds are very healthy for you. So I
buy pump The pumpkin seeds that I buy are green.
The pumpkin seeds that in the in the in the pumpkin,
or orange or white yeah, I don't know how the
hell they turned green. But I'm a big pumpkin seed guy.
Every day I eat a pumpkin pie. No, none of

(06:33):
that stuff. Listen, I'm a pumpkin seed guy. They're healthy.
It's a healthy food. I'm telling you guy, it is.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
I've heard it's a healthy I hate it. I hate
super food. I hate pumpkins. So I'm out on anything
pumpkin I'm not. In fact, as a little kid, young Ryan,
I couldn't The smell of a carved pumpkin was so
disgusting to me. I couldn't be in the same room.
So if my dad carved a pumpkin with my younger brother,
I had to you had to leave because it was

(07:01):
so disgusting to me. But anyway, pumpkin pie need contest
happening on Terry Fox Plaza tomorrow before the game, before
the game, before the.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Game, so for and by the way, four o'clocks aren't
seven o'clock. Yeah, and now let's go to the White Cap.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Yeah. White Caps San Jose.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
They're unbeaten in nine yep across all competitions. It's so
hard to keep a track of these guys. They played
so many different leagues and so many different championships. But anyways,
UH gold is back. He scored four minutes into his
return after seven months off. UH Sunday San Jose the
white Caps at BC Place. Oh and one more, my
buddy Stu walters out at UBC, My good pal, a

(07:38):
great guy. UH UBC men's hockey team plays their home
opener tonight against uh MacEwan Griffins.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Griffins and where's that? No way, didn't look it up,
but we should mention UBC Thunderbird's hockey friend of the
program Sven Butenshaw, the former Vancouver cannock out there. Where's
mace one? I don't know you were supposed to.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
I just I googled mace one and it's popped up,
but doesn't tell you what city?

Speaker 1 (08:07):
You tell you? Text Stewy back and say you need
more information on UBC's opponent tonight and he'll send it through.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Oh hold that Edmonton, Edmonton, Edmonton macee mac mace one.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Are you even saying it right?

Speaker 4 (08:20):
Just listen in Edmonton. So they're playing Edmonton tonight. Ub
C seven bochins On, former Canucks player, is the head
coach out in UBC. They do a wonderful job out
there with the kids.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Yeahs song. As the Canucks are using their area to practice, then, yeah,
they're doing a great job. By the way, a lot
of people in the Bayside Ocean Front Resort inbox bringing
up Dolly Wall.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
The white is the shell. So the pump this pumpkin
seed is inside and it's green.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Yeah. Oh my, so green green ones are already shelled. Okay,
So the green pumpkin seed is inside the shell. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
Yeah, the ones I buy it's save on where you work. Yeah,
they're green and they're wonderful. So you just eat handfuls
of pumpkins.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
But I put it in with nuts. The first thing
I do in the morning is I grab a handful
of nuts. Okay, I put them in nuts, Ryan, get
get right. I'm talking almonds, okay, and I'm talking walnuts,
and then I put them in and cashews. I put
them in pumpkin seeds, and then I put yogurt in
and that's okay, that's very healthy.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
Yeah, so nuts are important and pumpkin seeds are important.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
By the way, I think you totally butchered that you
be seeing. Okay. So that's the first I've heard of it. McEwan,
it's McEwen. Yes, it's not macwat.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
That's what Stewie told texted you.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Stewie texted me and he wrote it wrong. I don't
think so you did anyway, Again massive, and we should mention,
by the way, the Giants are on the road and
so are Victoria in the w HL. Both those teams
locally are on the road to start road trips. Okay, uh,
now you're getting absolutely smoked. We mentioned Canucks. Tonight final

(10:00):
preseason matchup for the Vancouver Canucks seven o'clock against the
Edmonton Oilers at eleven o'clock. We're gonna check in with
the Oilers and are good. Pal Bob Staffer is going
to join the program to.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
To Bob's gonna rip us for screwing up the mckewan University.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Yeah, well, if he's watching, he will. I'm surprised you
at text already. So uh, these were the practice lines yesterday.
I'm gonna show them very quickly because the Canucks are
on the ice at around ten thirty, So wait and
see if there's any updates today. But these are the
practice lines. I'm showing them because after practice yesterday, Adam
Foot did confirm that the lineup tonight was going to

(10:37):
be NHL heavy. It was going to be full of
NHL regulars for the Vancouver Canucks.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Of the roster you see right here is going to
play for the Canucks in the National Hockey League opener.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Yes, yeah, they're home opener, and you also see them tonight.
The big one for me is Vander Kain. Vander Kaine,
he's one preseason. I'm very surprised.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
I didn't like, Uh, it's an excuse for not playing
him in Calgary. Oh yeah, you know it's a former oiler, right,
Are you kidding me? There's half the guys in that
lineup that have never played against Evander Kine.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
I I don't know. I don't think he's hurt, but
it was a bit of an odd answer from Adam Fuka.
I mean, he made the joke about the flames, which
I kind of understand the joke, but he didn't really
have a reason for why.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
Yeah, I didn't really you know, I mean, I I
don't know. Look, I I've been told that I don't know.
The people think Kane's injured. I don't think he's injured,
but why would you play only one preciason.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
That's the thing.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
You do not want a ton of reps with Heatel.
If Heat's going to be your center, would you not
want a ton of game reps? But look, Heatel and
Kane are going to be very important. If they find
chemistry on the second line. If that second line cat score,
they're in trouble. So wouldn't you want Kane and Hetel
to play a ton in the preseason. I don't get that.
I don't get the one game. It makes no sense

(11:54):
to me.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Well, the other angle, Rick is there's here's a guy
that only played in the playoffs, like we like. A
lot has been made about Hey, you didn't have a
training camp last year, you didn't have a preseason last
year because of the injury you were coming off of.
You only have the playoffs. I would have assumed he
would have want to get going, get running and play
in more than just one preseason game. Tonight it will
be number two out of six.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
Ye I'm a little I'm a little bit surprised. But
we'll see Kane how he does next week. The big
thing tonight, Ryan is h I see two openings up front.
You gotta replace Hoaglanders one Folk line center is another one,
and I see the opening on defense.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
So these young.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
Kids some tough roster decisions, but it's good. That means
you got youth pushing, and it means you got depth.
So who's gonna make it? Coots, the Karamaki will lander,
then you got the six Abbey kids. But you have
to keep in mind, you have to keep in mind Bains,
Carlson Erratu need waivers to go to Absburg. And I

(12:52):
had somebody tell me last night that he doesn't think
Baines is gonna clear a waiver.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
I mean, I'd be surprised. Ryan.

Speaker 4 (12:59):
He's young, he's good at the American Hockey League level.
You could still work with him to try to get
him to the NHL level. Yeah, don't forget he's a
very good young American Hockey League player. Those guys are still,
you know, attractive to teams.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Sorry, that's what I meant. I'd be surprised, if be clear,
if you okay, So I see, yeah, you're saying the
same thing. Yeah, I mean, so you think it Bains
goes on. See, they're not.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
So they're not picking the best players necessarily. They're also
the waiver wire plays into the Vancouver Canucks decisions. You
have to keep the waiver wire in mind. Yeah, it's
Ssan and Lakaramaki don't need waivers to go to absburd.
So these are all things that are going to be
in decisions.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
For those of you on the podcast. The four centers
yesterday were EP forty heatl Braydon Coots in the third line,
Teddy Blueger on the fourth line, the extra line. The
fifth line was Baines, Sassin and Carlson. But again that
was practice yesterday. Let's see how game day skate lines
look today coming up in about twenty minutes or so,
we'll find out on that. Uh and Tom will Lander,

(14:02):
by the way, was paired with Young Pederson DPD on
the third pair at practice yesterday. Nilsman actually got moved
back because of the Derek Forbert injury. And by the way,
that was the other piece of news that came out
of Adam Foot post practice yesterday, Foot saying that Forbert's
load management, you know, he's kinda he he has been

(14:23):
dealing with some things in training camp. They all do,
and I will I'll give Foot credit. And he joked
about it yesterday too. He said, look at you guys,
gonna hear me say condensed schedule a million times, and
it is. It's a condensed schedule for the team. Why
are you running out a veteran guy like that? If
he's dealing with anything at all, It's okay to have
him sit in the third period the other night. It's

(14:43):
okay for him to take a practice off. It's okay
for him not to play tonight more than fine. And
let me get this in. We've got a break.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
I Stu texted me from UBC and he wrote MacEwan
Griffins and so Stu right there, it's m A c
w A N. So I read what Stu texted me.
So it's Stu. He said it says it says mace
Wan Griffins.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
Say it again. Spell it again. M A c h
w A N like McDon this mace one anyway, stuie
like Zach McEwen our good Craig mwan.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
Is w w c e w A N. But anyways,
I read what Stu, Texan. Stu is going to get
it for me. Both barrels loaded today. He made the mistake.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
You're let me tell you. There's not a lot of
people you and I go back. He's a good friend
of mine, but he screwed up the base base on
ocean front Missouri. That's not that's not being a friend
to you right now. Let me tell you Ray, Okay,
you're right. We do have to break our good pal
from the Athletic and Sports at six to fifty. Thomas
Strants is coming up next again as I mentioned eleven o'clock,
Bob Stafferd is going to join us from eight eighty

today brought to you by the Whistler Golf Club. A
reminder follow them on Instagram to keep up to date
with their renovation which is ongoing. Now. I tell you Rick, well,
first of all, a lot of people in the baside
hotel rummers are an inbox absolutely ripping you for somehow

(17:27):
getting macwast. You texted me mace one. I just read
the text anyways, it's mquan okay. And then but then
also a lot of people are saying are backing you
up on the scene thing. Pumpkin seeds are very health
I do a lot of research on longevity eating the
right foods. Pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds are very good.

(17:49):
For you, right, and every day I pumpkin seeds. I
grabbed some nuts, I put them in there, and then
I put the yogurt in bingo. Yeah, you see a
lot of baseball player with the sunflower seeds right, spitting.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
The some flower seeds exactly. But you don't want them salted.
You don't want to salt.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Right, get rid of the salt.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
And just have the pumpkin seeds are fine health tips
with Ricky, I'm on a health one guy that's a
healthy individual.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
We know this is Thomas. I wouldn't go that far.
He joins his now from the Athletic Sports as fifty Tom.
Are you big seed guy?

Speaker 7 (18:23):
I'm a big pepita seed guy. I'm team Rick on
this one. What Rick's talking about? I'm like my smoothie game.

Speaker 8 (18:29):
Oh wow, I'm a big I'm a big wake up
and smoothie guy. I like the mango. I like to
freeze my bananas. I buy.

Speaker 7 (18:37):
I buy big bananas, not the small bananas the Rick favors.
But I buy the big bananas and then I cut
them up and then I freeze them because they taste
better in my smoothies when they're frozen. Blueberry some mango,
some banana, a kind of spinach or kale, some yogurt,
and I like to do chia seeds and pepita seeds.

Speaker 8 (18:54):
Oh that's my that's my jam.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
And almonds and walnuts.

Speaker 7 (19:01):
Oh oh, I love almonds, but almonds high col so don't.

Speaker 8 (19:06):
I don't.

Speaker 7 (19:06):
I use pepitas instead of almonds, Rick, But I'm on
the pumpkin seed kick right there with you.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
Yep, bingo. This segment brought to you by Magic Bullet.
Your smoothie is coming coming to you soon. All right, Thomas,
Let's talk a little Canucks final preseason game tonight. Thankfully,
this thing is just about over. Ah god, yeah, it
looks like an NHL heavy lineup tonight for the Canucks.
And Adam Foot said so yesterday, who is the most
approved though tonight? One game final? Maybe push final? Hey,

(19:34):
look at me? Who is the most approved for the
Canucks tonight?

Speaker 7 (19:38):
I think it's gotta be one of the following four names.
And we'll see once we know exactly who's in. But
it's gonna be one of the four following four guys
because none of them require waivers, and I think all
of them have something to prove in terms of jobs
to earn, perhaps spots in the lineup to earn. Jonathan
LECERMACKI right at the top of my list. You know,

(19:59):
will the Canucks start with eight defensemen? Will they start
with seven and fourteen forwards? If it's fourteen forwards, you know,
Lekermackie I think would probably be on the team. And
if he's on the team, given his age, he's probably
going to play on opening night. And to be honest
with you, I think he's earned it with what we've
seen in preseason and on it. I just think he's
one of the you know, nine best forwards on this

(20:22):
team or has been throughout camp. I think he deserves
a shot, but I think he'll have a lot to prove,
assuming that he gets a look tonight, and then the
three D whichever of Mancini, Elias Petterson the defender or
Tom v Lander are in the lineup, they're going to
have a lot to prove. And likewise, I mean, you know,

(20:42):
you sort of look at it thirteen forwards. I think
we feel pretty confident in making this team six defensemen.
I think we have a good handle on We'll see
about Po Joseph Club or Adam Foot noted that he
was dealing with a groin injury. So six, assuming that
he's healthy, that leaves you know, two spots basically right

(21:02):
for those four gentlemen. So that's going to be hotly contested.
I would imagine when the Canucks play their final preseason
game against the Oilers, the Oilers certainly are going to
bring a dress rehearsal NHL lineup tonight to Rogers Arena,
and yeah, those four gentlemen will be the ones that
I'm watching most closely of this seven.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
One weird thing Thomas about the preseason is the Evander
Kaine thing. Only one game for him? Adam Foot kind
of yesterday just said like, oh, he made a joke
about not wanting to play me against the Flames, you know,
being a former rival and everything. But what did you make.
Should we read anything into only one game? And he's
likely to play again tonight, so that'll be two games.
Should we read anything into it? Or is it just
a veteran?

Speaker 7 (21:43):
That's fine, I mean, I'll be honest with you, Like
I saw him at training camp in Penticton, and you
know he was cruising right, like he was very much
at a lower pace than the majority of other players,
and I thought to myself, you know, that's probably nothing.
That's probably just to bet attending his.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Back on the show. Fortunate little technical difficulty there and
it wasn't Thomas's fault. Okay, I can promise you that
Thomas Grant's joining us from the Athletic Sports A sixty fifty. Thomas,
we lost you during that Evander Kaine answer, So maybe
just another thirty seconds on if you think there's anything
up with Kane.

Speaker 7 (22:25):
Please well, because I was doing sort of a compliment sandwich,
so I want to make sure that I get it in.
But I was watching him a training camp and thought
his pace was low and thought, you know, there's probably nothing,
but I'm gonna watch it when the preseason begins. And
then we saw him against the Kraken and he was
one of Vancouver's best players, certainly one of their most
creative players in that game. Had no issue with the

(22:46):
pace in that game at all. So I don't look
into this at all. I think this is a sixteen
year vet who knows exactly how to get himself ready
for when the games matter, and I don't read a
single iota into it whatsoever.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
Hey, Thomas, the Canucks are trying to trade crafts off
right now. They've called a ton of teams on him.
I don't think there's any interest. What was the thinking
of bringing this guy back?

Speaker 7 (23:11):
Well, I think there was interest in the summer after
his you know, Sterling KHL campaign, and I think, you know,
back in July or August, I suppose after he'd sort
of signed in Vancouver, you know, the Canucks thought he'd
be a pretty high risk of getting claimed were he
to be placed on waivers now if there was no

(23:32):
one willing to pay you know, that conditional seventh to
jump the queue. That suggests that his percentage chance of
clearing once we find out sort of today's waivers is
pretty low, you know. I guess that reflects that he
didn't make an impression on the Canucks or anybody else
in preseason. I think the Canucks just looked at him
as a guy who you know, was at a low

(23:54):
ebb of their confidence when we last saw him in
a Canucks uniform back sort of the I guess the
part of the Rick Talcket experience, the tail end of
the Bruce Boudreira and I thought, I think the club
viewed it as you know, maybe he's found some confidence
with two successful seasons in the KHL. Maybe maybe he's
sort of developed. He's got size, he's got hands. For

(24:17):
whatever reason, it just has he hasn't been able to
put it all together in terms of the hockey IQ side,
or the toughness side, or actually using leveraging his skills
to produce at the NHL level. And based on what
we saw in the preseason, I don't know that that's
fundamentally changed, even though it does look like his skating
stride is somewhat more powerful today than it was two
years ago. So I think they just wanted to first

(24:37):
look at him in case he'd sort of leveled up.
And you know, if he ends up down in a
Habitsford because he doesn't have a European outclause in his deal,
you know, we'll see if this experiment gets a longer time.

Speaker 8 (24:48):
Heress.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see what happens with them.
All right, the trade route, they're still talking. They're talking
to teams, possibly a second line center. If Peterson or
he ever got hurt, Thomas Blueger would end up being
in the top six. That's that's of concern. Gary, Yeah,

(25:09):
but second light, centers don't grow on trees, and if
you're gonna go get one Thomas, they're very, very expensive.

Speaker 8 (25:17):
They're very expensive.

Speaker 7 (25:19):
The club is definitely still keeping, you know, a line
in the in the fishing pond as it were, hoping,
hoping to get a nibble or perhaps an outright bite.

Speaker 8 (25:28):
You know.

Speaker 7 (25:28):
The Brandon Coots part of this is is going to
be interesting to unpack here too. He's only played center
throughout training camp in the preseason. I'd expect if he
makes this team, it will be as a center, and
I do expect him at this juncture to make this team. So,
you know, does that help it all? Atu Ratu's had
two strong games to close the preseason. Uh, you know,

(25:50):
there's obviously still some skating limitations there, but big body,
responsible defensively and as we've seen, he can finish. I mean,
he's got skill in there as well. So you know,
club's been comfortable with its center options from a hold
the fort standpoint. But at some point here, whether it's
this week or you know, over the weekend before the

(26:11):
twenty three men roster deadline kicks in a frame of
time in which this team has historically been very active
on the trade market, or if they wait ten to
fifteen twenty games to start the season. Like the hunt
to upgrade the center depth of this lineup is going
to continue.

Speaker 8 (26:26):
And it's not just hunting for center depth.

Speaker 7 (26:29):
They sort of phrase that incorrectly there, gentlemen, it really
is looking for a second line center or plus third
line center, right they You.

Speaker 8 (26:35):
Either want a guy who can push Hetel to.

Speaker 7 (26:37):
The third line, or you want a really good third
line center who can compliment Hetal and make your middle six,
you know, a little bit more robust. And that's what
the club's been shopping for for months. They'll continue shopping
for that over the weekend and they'll continue shopping for
and you know in through American Thanksgiving once the regular
season begins too.

Speaker 8 (26:57):
We all know it, and they know it as well.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
I mentioned tonight final preseason game. So Thomas, tomorrow, when
you're celebrating that the preseeds is finally over, you had
an extra well this papaya seeds what was its? Yeah,
you had an extra scoop tomorrow morning to your smoothie
to really.

Speaker 8 (27:15):
An extra scops. Yeah, just sound sounds good.

Speaker 4 (27:19):
Don't don't forget the nuts. Thomas they're really really healthy.
You're talking to one right now, Thomas.

Speaker 8 (27:24):
Well, Rick, I'm telling you, try some chia seeds. I know.

Speaker 4 (27:30):
I have tried chias seeds, but they're too small. I know,
but they're they're like little pear, they're like little pebbles.
You know, it's not good for me. Get to the nuts.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
You won't the almonds, and I'm telling you all nuts
they're the best, Thomas, I.

Speaker 8 (27:46):
Love them, but they're just high cala.

Speaker 4 (27:48):
Rick, I'm telling you, Okay, So with the high calori
and the high fat saturated, you have to do just
a little bit, just a little bit.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
Don't don't go. Don't go twenty one almonds and just two,
three or four or five. That's it.

Speaker 7 (28:02):
Hey, look, I drink enough calories after work then I
don't want to drink too many before it.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
All right, So thanks, This cooking session is over. We're
talking next.

Speaker 8 (28:12):
Friday, smoothie time with Rick and Drants. You never the segment,
you never know, you knew you need it.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
Yes, thanks, Tom appreciated. Thomas trans from the Athletic and
Sports that's six fifty joining us. I had no idea.
You guys are like smoothie experts. I have like a
booster juice like once in a while. That's it for me.

Speaker 4 (28:30):
When you get over fifty, you got it. Trance is
in fifty, but he looks like it. But anyways, when
you get over fifty, you gotta make adjustment.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
Right, that's it. No more cheeseburgers and milk, A little
more pizza, cheeseburger, sugar, coke, candy, nothing. Yeah, you're right.
All the fun goes away as you get all of it. Uh.
Okay again with the technical glitch. You're a little bit
off here, but we are going to get into the
uh waddling dog pole question, which we haven't talked about
yet today, the waddling dog pole question. Reminder, you can sip,

(29:01):
stay and relax at the Waddling Dog pub or the
Waddling Dog. See I made the mistake of Saint Pub.
I'm not supposed to say pub. Yeah, the Waddling dog
Rick take it away.

Speaker 4 (29:09):
All right, get her up, Ryan, And here it is.
What are you most interested in this weekend? And by
the way, you didn't put the BC lines in here.
We're getting texts. I know, Vincent Gorman ripping us. We're
getting well, the BC lines thirty thousand tomorrow BC place
second place on the line in the West. You had
to put the lines in there. I asked you to
put the lines there. You to put the lines in.

(29:30):
But anyways, what are your most interested What are you
most interested in this weekend? Canucks roster decisions, blue Jays
playoffs or Mariner's playoffs? And oh look at this five
hundred plus votes. It's hopping and spopping on a Friday morning. Hey, look,
Canucks roster decisions is gonna win. But the Blue Jays
are not far behind. No, you're right, you're thirty seven
percent blue Jays. And and tomorrow I know where I'll

(29:54):
be on the couch watching the Jays tomorrow before then,
and then I'm gonna watch the lines right after. It's
gonna be a couch filled day tomorrow with the Lions
and the Blue Jays and the Maritors. But the Knucks
roster decisions are going to be very interesting, Ryan, It's
who stays, who goes, who's gonna go to absburd And
you know there's gonna be some disappointed kid tomorrow, like

(30:15):
this weekend, there's gonna be a kid that says, you know,
I was so close to the NHL. But you know what,
you gotta go to Absbord, keep plugging away and get back,
you know, just don't give up. But there's gonna be
some disappointed kids this weekend for the Canucks.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
No doubt. But as we've been talking about, Rick, I
think one of the biggest positives out of this whole
situation is the fact that no matter the moves they make,
if they have to make them because of waivers for instance, yeah,
you know, one guy's whatever, No matter what, it's the
fact that whoever's sent down to Abbotsford, we're gonna make
a very good case of man, when is that player

(30:49):
gonna be back up here, whether injury or something else,
you know, because like let's say r Steve Bains does
make the roster off the start and he has a
quiet first four games, five games, and they think that's all.
We gotta take this risk with waivers and we're gonna
send them down. And so then they send them down
and they maybe they try max ass or whatever they
try and do. But the bottom line, Rick, is the
fact that we are down to the last preseason game

(31:11):
and there's still even if the coaches have their top decision,
there's still decisions to be made, and there's still talking
points to be made. And for the first time for
in a long time, that's a story with this hockey
club that there is somewhat of a pipeline.

Speaker 4 (31:25):
The other story with this hockey club right now. Last year,
go back twelve months, they had eight nine new players
in the lineup. They didn't have that this year. The
only new guys they brought in Kane, They lost a suitor,
they lost Joshua, but mostly the team coming out of
camp it's everybody Vancouver, it's everybody Abby. They're gonna be
a cohesive bunch to start and they don't remember last year,

(31:47):
Oh we got eight nine new bodies. That's not the
case anymore. The only new guy they got is Kane.
Everybody else was here well.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
And so speaking of Caine, So we have owning skate
lines now from Brendan Bachelor are good pal again from
sports at six fifty. So here are the morning skate
lines for the Vancouver Canucks today. Your top line to
brest ep forty best and no change there. Baines with
Heatel and Garland, Yeah, which is interesting. Drew O'Connor, Teddy

(32:19):
Bouger and Keith for Sherwood. Is your third line, fourth line? Again,
I shouldn't say fourth line because this is just the
way Brendan has tweeted it. It's just the way he's
written it. Cain, with Brandon Coots and Jonathan Mcaramaki. Your
extra line today is Rattu, Sassin and Carlston.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
And look they're the last line because they've seen everything
they possibly can from those three.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
They took them to the Calder Cup. Yep, you know what.

Speaker 4 (32:46):
They played the heck out of them in the preseason.
There's no reason to play him tonight. You already know
you've made your The Canucks have made their decision on
Ratussan and Carlson. They know where they're going to be.
It's the other kids they got to take a look
at and see where. Like a Bane's playing up with
the heatl and Garden.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
Yeah, I mean that's a big spot for him. Yeah,
it's a big again.

Speaker 4 (33:04):
He had a good game in Calgary. Sasan had a
good game in Calgary.

Speaker 7 (33:08):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (33:08):
But guess what, Sassan Unfortunately he can be sent to
Avisburg without waivers exactly. That really hurts him, you know,
and Bains has to go through waivers that helps him.
So these are all decisions that go into the coaching staff.
But this is the lineup tonight and the deep pairs rotating,
but the seven defenseman or Hughes Aronic this MP twenty nine, Myers.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
Marcus twenty five.

Speaker 4 (33:29):
I know, I don't know why he does that, but Marcus,
because there's too many Pettis, I know, but I Marcus Patterson,
Ellis Peterson, Mancini and Wilander.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
I do believe.

Speaker 4 (33:39):
I think, Well Lander's in tonight, so does that mean
Mancini gets the rest tonight? So they got seven defensemen
on the ice this morning. We'll see which one of
them shit. But very interesting lineup for tonight. And and
Adam Foote said yesterday, Ryan ninety of the roster is set. Ye,
it's gonna be a lot of vets tonight. So there

(34:00):
you go, folks. That's basically your hockey team with the
addition of one or two guys and Coots. Very important
game for him tonight to get the trust from the coaches. Again,
he doesn't have to score a ton of points. He
just has to be a responsible player, do the right
things to ask, do what the coach wants him to do.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
That's all he's got to do. Tonight, Coots well, and
speaking of Adam Food, he kind of said that yesterday.
He didn't reference names, but he did talk about how
you wants young guys to shake it out of their heads,
that it's all about it's you know, and he said,
of course, obviously you want something, you want to see something,
but it's more about, you know, the play with the
puck playing their own end.

Speaker 4 (34:36):
Hey, you know, not making costly turnovers go down penalties.
Go back to Trevor Linden in eighteen. Bob McCammon said
he was good defensively, and then Harold Schnepp said he was.
He was mature beyond his years. That's what Coots got.
He's got the same things that Trevor Linden. Now, Linden
went nuts and scored thirty in his first year, but
he's got the maturity that Trevor's got, and he's got
the defensive responsibilities.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
Again. I just I find it incredible, Rick, We're talking
about a guy drafted in June and he just happens,
I know, but mis franchise, Like when was the last
player we saw like this?

Speaker 4 (35:08):
But with this franch older second he's also on a
team that's weak up the middle.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
You're right, you're right.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
If Paterson, Miller and bo Horvat were here like they
were two years ago, Coots wouldn't be He'd be in Seattle.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
Now, one hundred percent. Absolutely. But the bottom line again,
he I don't think he's being gifted, no, but yeah,
there is an opportunity. He is earned everything. Exact.

Speaker 4 (35:29):
Kid is a wonderful kid, Coots. He has earned everything.
Every single day they sit in the room, the Canucks
coaches and go, we can't cut him. We can't cut him, Yeah,
because he's making it too hard on them. He's a
wonderful kid. He's a wonderful draft pick. They did their
homework on his character as he's the youngest captain in
the Western Hockey League last year in Seattle. Do you
know most captains in the dubb are nineteen or twenty.

(35:51):
This kid was seventeen. Yeah, this kid was seventeen. That's impressive,
very impressive. So that's the Canucks story.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
If you're wondering, by the way, if you have tickets
for the game to that you want to know about
the oiler story. As Drance mentioned, it's a pretty much
a dress rehearsal situation, Bob Stuffer, who's gonna join the
show at eleven o'clock twoting the lines for morning skate today.
There's all the big boys, I mean they're there, dry
side on McDavid, Nuge Pot Coles, and of course with
the Vancouver Ties, and they keep playing.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
McDavid and dry settle together and Ryan John Hopkins second
line center, Pod Colson is back in the lineup, and
their top d are there. Troy Stetcher the Pride, and
Joy Richmond's in tonight with Nurse and Skinner and Picker
the goaltender. So Wallman's been hurt. I don't think he's
gonna play tonight. Uh, he just got back to practice.
He's been hurt. But that's a pretty damn good lineup

(36:39):
for Edmonton tonight. That's that's pretty close to their opening
night roster as well.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
Yeah, yeah, so you're gonna see a good one tonight
if you're paying preseasons prices to see the Canucks and
the Odians. Take a shot at the prices now, No,
the price it is lower for the preseason in comparison
to the regular season, so you are you're getting a
good value tonight. If you have a ticket at Rogers Arena.
Uh okay, time to talk about our good pal Jeremy
Dodd and everybody at able Auctions. Able Auctions will sell

(37:07):

Burnaby Day's Spa. That's happening on October ninth. By the way.

and more up for grabs. And at the day spa,
Rick again, I know you've been dry on this. There's
a body slimming laser, body sculpting equipment, A dozen electrics

(37:33):
like slims your body. I guess yeah, body slimming laser
and body sculpting equipment. I don't know how you body
sculpt yourself, but that that I just.

Speaker 4 (37:42):
Go to Trevor Linda's gym three times a week, that's all.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
And have your pumpkin seats and there you go. From
information on these two business closure auctions, go to able
Auctions dot ca and to get your assets sold. And
you're building cleared emails sales at able Auctions dot CA.
That sales at a B L E Auctions dot C.
A again eleven o'clock hour is on the horizon. Bob
Staffer will join us out of Edmonton to talk about

(38:07):
the oilers and everything happening there. Is it Just me

Your island adventure starts here. Time for Big Ride A
Twitter guy. You know, I tell you Rick, I cannot
win with this no hat thing. I keep bringing it up. Well,
you wear a hat, then you don't wear a hat.
I wear a hat on this show four to five days,

(39:15):
and this year with me doing Friday, I thought, you
know what, I'm gonna not wear a hat. I'm gonna
look because everybody last year when I sat in for Donnias,
you're so unprofessional. Don't wear a hat exactly. You can't win.
You can't win. So I know this is a good pal.
Sean Flannery. Yep, good guy. We showed his photo earlier
in the week. I can't believe he would he be
right in like this. Yeah, this is early. Is it

(39:37):
just me? And a reminder get your submissions? Submissions in
for Is it just me coming up in the next hour?
Is it just me? But with a hatless Ryan and
a hairless drance? It looks like the before pictures for
the Hair Club for men Like I mean, I can't
win this.

Speaker 4 (39:54):
Don Flannery is a guy I graduated with in the eighties.
Not with him, he was two years earlier. NWSS, the
best high school in Vancouver.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
Yeah, somebody in the inbox in the baside ocean front
resort in boxes wondering what school you went to after
your the Cuban thing.

Speaker 4 (40:10):
Earlier, I read a text from the UBC my good
pals Do Walters.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
He wrote it, I gonna rip him after the show.
I'm backing up stew All day. Absolutely. Okay, we've been
talking about the baseball happening this weekend Mariners. Jay's the
DS series finally getting underway the Mariners. Yesterday, how about this?
Look at this. They unveiled new menu items happening at
t Mobile Park from Mariners games again beginning tomorrow. Look

(40:37):
at this. So here's some of the items they got
going here. They got a new PNW Pacific Northwest pretzel.
They've got a Pacific Pitmaster loaded baked potato. That's on
the top right there. If you're wondering, by the way,
crabs and caviar.

Speaker 4 (40:52):
Caviar at a baseball game on the bottom laft and
that's James bond Rich stuff. Why would you want caviar
at a baseball game? You want to You're in a
hot dog the no new cheese steak.

Speaker 1 (41:03):
So it's a veggie cheese steak. I believe, veggie and
vegan cheese steak. That's in the bottom right. So let
me tell you about this. Claws and caviar. Okay, okay.
Again on the bottom left there it features Pacific snow
crab claws in a souvenir mariner's helmet, served with caviar,
krema dip, fresh lemon and a chive garnish.

Speaker 4 (41:23):
That's not baseball. I agree, it's not baseball. Why are
they doing this? Is that for the club seats the
rich people like, why is your caviar at a baseball game?

Speaker 1 (41:33):
Well?

Speaker 4 (41:33):
I just also, and you've brought this up fries, hot dogs, beer, Well,
that's what the sports fans want.

Speaker 1 (41:39):
And to a certain extent, the same goes for the
baked potato. How difficult. So you're wedged in there because
it's gonna be flaws.

Speaker 4 (41:46):
Who says, let's honey, let's get a cab game caviar?

Speaker 1 (41:49):
I don't know. And so you're gonna be wedged in
there in between two other humans so many you're trying
to crack crabs pizza. I'll take pizza at a ball
game before I eat caviar. Uh. The baked potato, by
the way, I have to mention this, Okay, this is
the description of the baked potato, which, again top right
there of the photos. The baked potato is a salt

(42:11):
rubbed baked potato which comes with tillamook white cheddar cheese.
That's your cheese, my cheese, smoky apple, barbecue, brisket, burnt ends,
rainier beer, braised onions, and jalipinos. That's what's in that
big run. It's it's not baseball. It's not baseball. That
doesn't scream baseball. I agree, I don't. I don't really know.

(42:33):
I had one of those pretzels at a Seahawks game.
They're massive, the pretzels. I'm okay with that. That's a pretzel.
Is is is a rena or stadium food. They're huge.
You need both, but that's okay. You need both hands.
A warm pretzel like that. Yeah, I'm down with that
a big time. The other stuff, no, no, thank you,
especially the crab claws. Again, like Donnie's brought this up before,

(42:54):
it's kind of medieval esque. It's an urchin looking thing
just for everybody, or just you know, it's for everyone. No, no,
it's guys, Richard. It's available at select stands, but it
is available for everyone. And by the way, you notice
at the top there, they've also got a postseason value
pack twelve bucks US. You get a hot dog, a
pop and a red rope which is Twizzlers. Do this.

(43:17):
That's more baseball for that's a good deal. Yeah, that's
not bad. That's bad.

Speaker 4 (43:21):
But the other stuff is like, that's just so it's
a lot. It's not baseball. It's not it's not.

Speaker 1 (43:26):
Okay, but so you mentioned what's baseball, I've got, I
got what's baseball. We just talked about hot dogs. This
is now. This is for the Phillies. Okay, So the Phillies.
They're in the ALDS. They're taking on the Dodgers, which
that should be like an NLCS such an arguably be
a World Series. I know it's the same same league,
but still the Phillies. So the online trend, Rick, I

(43:48):
don't know if you've seen this. It's the nine to
nine to nine challenge at a baseball game, which nine innings,
nine hot dogs, nine beers. Okay, it's the nine nine
nine challenge. So the you can't put anything past you, man,
the Phillies. Look what they're offering. They're offering a special
nine to nine to nine challenge. So you get that,

(44:09):
you get everything right off the back. You get a
box like a little box for those of you in
the podcast, a box with featuring nine hot dogs. Wow
and nine. They're junior sized beers and junior sized hot dogs.
A little bit of a cheat. It's not like going
to the concession and getting a regular sized hot dog
or Reagan sized beer. It's a little bit of a cheat.

(44:29):
But I can't do that. I can't. I can't. I mean,
I don't drink so the beer. I can't do the
hot dog. Nine hot dogs. My doctor would be all
over me. I mean, yeah, nine hot dogs is a lot,
and especially if you're because it's one thing to like
eat and eat and eat really fast. Who's gonna eat
nine hot dogs. There's a lot of people. There's a
lot of we know some of the Vancouver media sports media.

(44:50):
There's a lot of people. But again, you don't have
to do it fast because it's supposed to be won
an inning, which to me makes it harder because you've
got a space, you're nine todd dogs are going to
be cold. There is that as well, So that's what
the Phillies are offering up. By the way, the Phillies,
much like the Mariners, didn't release any pricing on these items,

(45:10):
so yeah, I mean that crab thing with caviar. I
can only imagine the price on that that That would
have been crazy, very expensive. Okay, one other thing when
it comes are actually two of the things quickly when
it comes to baseball. If you're wondering about the baseball ratings, Rick,
you mentioned the last Jay's game Rogers Blue Jays two

(45:30):
point six million, you know they did? That shows you
that everybody in this country is behind the Blue Jays. Yeah,
I mean, look, that's that is a very strong number.
Another very strong number. This is from ur Austin Karp
of Sports Business Journal. Game one for the Red Sox
AL Red Sox Yankees AL Wildcard on Tuesday night just
six point five three million viewers on ESPN and the States.

(45:52):
It's the best ESPN MLB audience of four years, the
best under the current MLB Wildcard format, and the game
peaked at just under ten million viewers. Baseball is having
a resurgence, like there is a lot and I know
it helps in this country with the Jays and the
Mariners being involved. There's a lot of storylines out of that.
But even beyond that, to have Red Sox Yankees in

(46:14):
the wild Card, to have to have the Dodgers in
the postseason with the Phillies and you got the Cubs.
I mean, there's no duds. There's no you got Detroit
involved too, There are no duds. There are no teams,
big market teams, big market teams. When the big market
teams are in, they love it. Yes, but the best
team in the National League is a small market in

(46:35):
the Brewers. Yeah. Yeah, that's a small man. Good for them, Yeah, absolutely,
they know what.

Speaker 4 (46:40):
The Mets blew three hundred and thirty three million dollars,
didn't make the playoffs. Do you think Milwaukee's payroll is
three hundred and thirty three million. It's not good for them.

Speaker 1 (46:48):
Yeah, that was something with the Mets absolutely choking. And
speaking of the Red Sox Yankees, very quickly, we got
to show this from last night. If you were watching
the game this, Ryan McMahon, you got to play Derek,
Ryan McMahon, you run it in the eighth inning, Derek
Jeter esque chasing down a foul ball and he goes in,
flips over into the Red Sox dugout. Ryan mcmanondaes again,

(47:11):
Derek Jeter asked, and you know what I love about
this wreck? More than anything. Well, I mean, the play
is unbelievable to watch him, you know, just go absolutely
send it. He knows where it's gonna end up. He
knows he's gonna end up in the dugout, but he
sends it anyway. But I love how strong the Red
Sox rivalry is with the Yankees. Look at nobody else.
These guys don't help him to the end. Well that
guy that got fifty seven and then they kind of

(47:33):
oh you okay, but before that, nah, you're gonna go
over man, and we're not helping. The's a lot on
the line, right, No, absolutely, hey, and you know what
he I guarantee you he is the most popular New
York Yankee today in New York after making this play
and you know, selling out for a ball. You remember
the Yankees Red Sox brawl? Oh yeah, and Don was

(47:55):
who was it that? Yes?

Speaker 4 (47:56):
Don Zimmer and Pedro Pedro threw him down. Yeah yeah,
guys hate each other running. Oh yeah, there's no way.
Who's the what's the Yankees pitcher's name last night?

Speaker 1 (48:05):
Uh? Okay, you you do it. It's Cam Schlittler, Schlingler.
What is it? Schlittler, Schlickler yeah. Sure. But he was
the rookie in the game last night for the Yankees
and did a great drug. He showed up man twelve
kuh and you know what, I missed it Rick because
he went I think he went seven seven, absolutely yeah,

(48:28):
and then he fell off. It was too battle to
two rookies. This kid, he made his MLB debut in
July and he's in Winter Do or Die Game for
the New York Yankees. He's from Massachusetts. Puts on an
amazing performance last night. It was I mean, it was
so impressive to watch. And again one more time. Cam
Schlittler is his name. I'm not saying yeah, that's just
better for you're gonna get us all in trouble. Coming

(48:52):
up next an easy name. Bob Stafford, pal out of
Edmonton and eight eighty chen and Oilers. Now he's going
to join us to talk about the Canucks opponent tonight
and what's happening with the Oilers. Conor McDavid not signed yet.
We'll talk to Bob next. It's Donnion Dolly the team
on Check.

Speaker 3 (49:07):

email advertise at checkmedia dot Ca.

Friday and again. All of our guest today is sponsored

construction progress on their extensive renovation. Follow them on Instagram
at Whistler Golf. Canucks Oilers Tonight seven pm, the preseason
will finally come to a close at Rogers Arena for

(49:57):
the Canucks and the Oilers. We're joined now by a
good pal, Bob Staffer from eight to eighty Chad in
the host of Oilers Now. Bob, thanks for doing this today.
How are you good, gentlemen? How you doing very good?
Very good? So we'll talk about tonight's game, but of
course let's just jump into the deep end here. Bob,
what is the latest with Connor McDavid and his possible

(50:18):
contract extension with the Edmonton Others? Of course entering in
his final year. Oh, he's entered it final year in
terms of contract with the Oilers.

Speaker 5 (50:27):
Yeah, well, I mean there's no I mean, maybe you
should ask Wreck. I don't know. He seems to have
a pretty good haddle on these things. But I may
be seeing from a little bit different perspective because, for
full disclosure, and I always think this is important, I
do work directly for the club. You know, I stated
back during the summer that I was one hundred and

(50:47):
two percent convinced that Connor would sign some form of extension.
I believe that's still going to come to fruition. I
even think there's an outside chance he signs before the
start of the regular season. I think it's going to
be a short term deal, and I don't think it's
going to be a number that kills the Emmas orders.
But I did speak to a couple of people in
the Orders hierarchy today and there was nothing new at

(51:10):
this time to report.

Speaker 1 (51:13):
So what do you what is what has been the
hold up with Connor wanting to sign? Like the July
first time came and went, then it was okay, wait
for training camp. Now we're almost on the eve of
the start of the NHL season. What's been the main
hold up? You believe with Connor not signing yet.

Speaker 5 (51:30):
Well, you know, Connor is a really detailed guy, and
I think he's taking his time with this. As you're
probably aware of, Jeff Jackson was Connor's age and he
also had Evan Bouchard, and then Jeff became the orders
president of hockey Operations. Even though really on a day
to day basis, this is kind of Stan Bowman's team.

(51:51):
I just think Connor's, you know, making sure that he's
comfortable with where he's at. I don't think I don't
want to speak, you know, and I I've had a
full disclosure. I've had a chance to during the first
intermission of preseason game against Calgary and of a first
intermission preseason game against the I guess it would have

(52:15):
been Vancouver. No, anyways, Winnipeg. I did I talk. I've
talked to Connor multiple times, so there's nothing to me.
He's not conducting himself like a guy who's going to
be bailing on a team. Like he's around, he's available,
he engages in conversation. This is going to be his
first road preseason game tonight, be flying about an hour

(52:38):
and a half here, So you know, I think he's
just being really diligent. Judd Mouldaver, who Rick knows quite well,
is you know that has taken over that file.

Speaker 1 (52:50):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (52:50):
Dave Ganne, who really did have Evan Bouchyard to begin with,
continues with Wasserman. With Bouchyard, they got a four year
deal done. The Orders have made a priority of signing
their players to under Daryl Kates. And I'm going to
preface this by saying, when Darryl was pursuing the team
back in two thousand and seven, two thousand and eight,

(53:11):
we had Wayne Gretzky Inner show, and you know I
was family friends with Ken Nichols, cal was the chairman
of the board of the Orders. I remember point blank
asking Wayne, look, the e Igmage Investors Group has thirty
eight owners. That's a lot of capital between all of them.
What are your thoughts in an individual owner if Daryl

(53:32):
Kates gets the team, you know, because this is an
organization that sold Wayne Gretzky la and sold Bark Messy
to the New York Rangers. And Wayne cut me off
and said, Bob, not only I'm here to tell you
that I had Daryl Kate's own the team when I played,
Bob would have been an oider my entire career, and
he will make a concerted effort to sign every significant

(53:54):
player to a max termline deal. So even though the
orders got criticism for the seven years on Nugent Hopkins
coming off a four goal season in the lockout year
in twelve thirteen, the seven years on Taylor Holl those
were max turnlink deals. McDavid eight years, Dry Sittle eight years, which,
ironically enough was criticized, including by some people in your market.

(54:15):
An eight year deal at eight and a half million
turned out to be a massive bargain for the Oilers.
Darnell Nurse an eight year deal, second eight year deal
for Nugent Hopkins, second eight year deal for dry Title.
So you know, Wayne was right and prophetic. You know
Darryl Kates has signed his best players to max turnlink deals.
We're not going down this path. And part of it,
I think, guys, is just we're not sure what the

(54:37):
salary cop is going to be in a couple of years,
and I think Connor wants to assess where the Oilers
are going to be at in a couple of years
as well. Now I should state I don't know if
you guys read the Athletic Today they finalized their rankings
of teams and they had Edmonton based on their analytics,
being the top team in the National Hockey League this year.

(54:58):
So they said they have the best defense scre in
the league with the top two top two players of
MC David Leon. So I think Everton's gonna have a
real good team this year, I think. But David's taking
his time and we'll see what happens here over the
next few weeks.

Speaker 4 (55:13):
Hey, Bob, you were the first to report in the
summer that you can see a Pod Colson Vasili Pod
Coulson contract extension, and guess what it happened. Talk a
little bit about him the extension. Very sadly his father passed,
he had to go to Russia. Yeah, he's going to
be in the lineup tonight. I saw your lineup. But
talk about this kid and what he's meant to the oiders.

Speaker 5 (55:34):
Well, I don't understand what happened in Vancouver, and I
can't figure out why he couldn't play for Rick Tackett. Like,
if ever there was a player that has the attributes
you would think Rick Tackett would want, you know, a
highly competitive player that is physical, that is selfless. That

(55:55):
is the first player on the ice for every practice.
I'm sort of stunned didn't work out better now. Sometimes
guys need a second chance. I think the belief of
the Orders management is Vasili has got more offense to give.
And I remind your listeners that viewers that Valerian and
a Chushkin played fifty eight games one season without scoring

(56:17):
a goal and has had multiple twenty five goals season since.
Put Coles and work says, you know what off he's
The Orders are going to play McDavid, dry Settle and
Frederick probably to start the year because they want to
slowly integrate Howard and Savoy into the lineup and up
and too much pressure on them. But in Vassily tonight's
going to play in the second line with Nujen, Hopkins

(56:39):
and Mangy. Wow, he was really good Vasilly last year
in the Playoffsife on Dry dry Settle does not sweat fools. Okay,
there's no bs in his personality and he has been
effusive in his praise. But goals and so the Orders
gave up a fourth in that deal. Maybe the canucksative
Vasili a bit of a solid and gave him a

(57:00):
chance somewhere else, but it's come to it's certainly worked
out for Edmonton since they picked him up.

Speaker 4 (57:05):
There's another guy you like and he's from Richmond, Troy Stetcher.
He's in the lineup tonight. Talk a little bit about him.

Speaker 5 (57:12):
He's in tough. I'm gonna be honest with you, you
know again circling back to the athletic and those guys
do a good job in terms of crunching the numbers.
They said that the you know, the last three years,
cleft Bomb and Bouchard or sorry, Eck Woman Bouchard have
been the top pairing in the league over the last
you know, two hundred plus games. You guys saw how

(57:34):
good Bouchard was during the playoffs. Oh yeah, and then
and then Nurse and Wallman had great analytics. Stetcher. If
Troy Stetcher is your number seven defenseman, I think he
got a pretty good team and he's really Walman's out.
He'll be ready for the startu of the regular season.
They are going to play Woman on the right side
once we get going. But the other thing is, I
got a guy named Alec Radula, who Stan Bowman had

(57:56):
in Chicago. When he likes this guy a lot. He's
a six foot four writing, he's gonna be pushing. I
think the Orders are going to have to keep both
Noah Phelp and Alec ragoul on their roster because I
think they might lose those guys on waivers. So, you know,
Phelp last year fought Mason Gertzen. You know he's a
and had nineteen goals for this six foot three right
shot center. And Ragoula is a six foot four right

(58:17):
shot d So there's gonna be some hard, hard decisions
made here in Oil Country on some players.

Speaker 4 (58:23):
You know what, the Oiders goaltenders are good enough to
get them the Stanley Cup Finals, and then when they lose,
all the goalies get to blame. Talk a little bit
about Skinner and Pickered. You know a lot of people
called for new goalies, Bob.

Speaker 5 (58:37):
Did they call for new goalies in Vancouver when Tim
Thomas put up a nine to sixty save percentage of
the final back in twenty eleven? Great point, right, Like,
here's the thing, Everton doesn't get past Dallas either year
without Stuart Skinner. Skinner was nine, twenty two and twenty
four yep, yep, and made thirty one saves in Game
six when the Owlders got out shot thirty two ten
at home and won two one. And last year against

(59:00):
Dallas he was better. He was at nine to twenty
four and out dual Jake Ottinger and everybody. I think
most people think Hellibut's the best American goalie. Ottinger is
probably the second best. And the Demko's healthy, he's the third.
So Skinner's still only twenty six. The owners were by
and I get it, teams get injured, but Edmonton had
a lot of bad injuries. You know, Hyman. It was

(59:23):
a massive loss, and the final new Jack Hopkins broke
his hand. Eck Holm probably shouldn't have been playing. Wallman
was you know, they just they ran out of steam.
And then Kane and I know we're gonna talk briefly
about Andrey. You know, just the way the series was
managed by the officials. Anytime Kane brought a stick up
there calling a penalty. There were some other players that
would lead every scrum with the Buttendler stick that never

(59:46):
got called. So it took away Edmonton's depth. And then Skinner,
you know, he yeah, he could have had a couple.
It should have made a couple more saves, but the
Owners got out played in the final four games at
the SERIOUS, So let's just be patient on skin. It
is going to be interesting what happens here. Edmonton, as
you know, picked up Connor Ingram. Yes, Bill Armstrong and

(01:00:07):
Utah probably did them a solid there, you know, gave
a chance for Ingram to to jumpstart his career. Connor
Ingram is from Imperial, Saskatchewan. That is the hometown of
Chris Snoblock. He's the only NHL player from there. Chris
Nablock's mother and Connor Ingram's mother, who unfortunately passed away
about a year ago. They were best friends.

Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
You know.

Speaker 5 (01:00:29):
Chris Nablock's favorite teacher grown up was Connor's dad. So
I think you're going to see Connor Ingram have a
chance here to push Calvin Pickard once he gets in
through training camp in the HL and get some games
in so the owners. It's funny. You look at Vancouver
in a year from now, the Canucks are going to
be spending thirteen million on goal right between lancoln And
and Demco. And you look at Edmonton and they're going

(01:00:51):
to spend four point six million this season on three
goalies and you might argue none of them are any good,
but we'll see. I think that Skinner's gonna have a
bounce back campaign. I'm not saying he's gonna be at
nine to fourteen like he was two years ago, but
I don't think he's gonna be eight ninety six like
he was last year.

Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
Storylines wi plenty with the Oilers, Bob. We really appreciate
you taking the time today. Save travels to Vancouver, and
I know we'll talk to you as this season goes along.

Speaker 5 (01:01:17):
Mark my word. Evander Kine twenty two to twenty seven
goals and the Canucks will resign him.

Speaker 1 (01:01:21):
Oh hey, oh, Bob, I will noted that clip right now, Bob,
for sure, save the clip. Save the clip, Bob, We're
gonna save the clips.

Speaker 8 (01:01:29):
Take care.

Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
Thanks, Bob. Appreciated Bob Staffer from Oilers Now on a
to eighty shead in Edmonton. Wow, interesting twenty two. He's
a big Evander Kaine fan. I remember Rick when we
I think we had Bob on right when that trade
happened before a break. Yeah, and he talked about the
added element of a prove it year, right because he's
a penny ufa. You take that and mix it with

(01:01:51):
hometown and you could have something pretty big explode up
here with it.

Speaker 4 (01:01:54):
He's gonna have to produce because that second line is
the key for the Canucks. If they don't provide offense,
this team's in trouble.

Speaker 1 (01:02:01):
Just quickly, on the Orders, we didn't talk to Bob
about it, but announce this morning Chris Knoblock, head coach,
the Orders contract extension through twenty twenty eight twenty nine.
He was entering the final year of his deal, so
the Orders head coach reaps there in Edmonton. We'll get
back into the Canucks talk talk more about the weekend
ahead as well, and touch on the poll question. This

(01:02:21):
is Donnie Noi, the team.

(01:03:32):
Get it up, Ryan.

Speaker 4 (01:03:33):
The pole question, the Waddling Dog Pole question Here it is,
what are you most interested.

Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
In this weekend?

Speaker 4 (01:03:39):
The Canucks roster decisions, the Blue Jays are the Mariners
playoff games. The BC Lions should have been in there, Ryan,
and we got ripped from up putting the line. I
understand second place in the West on the line four
o'clock BC Place Upper Bowl could be thirty thousand there.
Get out there support the Lions. I think I might
be going anyways. Leading the way Canucks roster decisions of

(01:04:01):
fifty three percent. We are in Vancouver, but look at this,
the Blue Jays are not far behind thirty six percent,
and your Mariners rightfully so at the bottom where they
should be Uh, there should be nobody in Lower Mainland
voting for the Mariners. Canada's team is going for the
World Series.

Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
Simple as that, it's not going for the World Series.
Let's settle there going. Let's settle that Alps first stop.
There's no expos sadly. Yeah, I'm just saying there's a
long way to go.

Speaker 4 (01:04:30):
Andre Dawson, Gary Carter, I love those guys. Anyways, John
Oderude for his basement, what about him? That's a name
I remember. He played for the Blue Jays too, and
the Mariners and the marrigor Yeah, but he played. He
had just yes goodness in Toronto as well. So anyways,
Canucks' roster decisions, and the Canucks made some decisions this morning, right.

Speaker 1 (01:04:51):
Yeah, yeah, So well let's go back. First of all,
yesterday Batali crats. Yes, let's get that. Uh, he was
on waivers by the Vancouver Canucks. He is just officially
cleared waivers by the Vancouver not surprise. I'm not surprised.

Speaker 4 (01:05:06):
The Vancouver Canucks have called a lot of teams trying
to move him, trying to trade him. There's no takers
and nobody's going to take him. He cleared waivers.

Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
What made them, Rick wanted it was the player called
his agent and said I want to give the National
Hockey League another try, and the agent cut the deal
with the Canucks. But what what made the Canucks go? Ryan? Ryan?
They he was still property of the Canucks. No, No,
I understand that. I know that piece. So, but my
thing is, you had an HL team coming off of

(01:05:37):
Calder Cup victory, right, so you knew the depth chart
of the team you looked at. No, No, no, there
was some openings.

Speaker 4 (01:05:43):
Look, there's still an opening in the top six if
somebody wants to grab it. The point is they thought
he's a ninth overall pick.

Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
Rick, what did he show you here? What do you
got to lose? I got to lose? Here's the here's
the problem. Though.

Speaker 4 (01:05:56):
He's going to make four hundred and fifty thousand in
that I think is the highest salary Innavisburg. So he's
got to go down there and be an impact player.
He's got to go down there and be a good
role model because those veterans in the American League are
like nineteen twenty year olds in the Western Hockey League.
You want good pros on and off the ice to
teach those young kids. How to get better every day.
So anyways, he's got to make a ton of money

(01:06:18):
down in Absburg. But he had no margin for air.
He had to come in to wow the Canucks. He
didn't do that, No, not at all.

Speaker 1 (01:06:26):
He just became another face, Yeah, in a sea of faces. Yeah,
that's it. While all the Abbey guys, and again some
of them were a bit in conduct. You got was
a bit inconsistent. Carlson I found a little bit inconsistent,
but the other guys for the most part, all but
he had to stick out exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:06:44):
You know who sticked out, Mancini. He was doing something.
Why he stuck out and you know what you're going,
Holy smokes.

Speaker 1 (01:06:49):
Did you see?

Speaker 4 (01:06:50):
Yeah, exactly he had to do what Mancini did. Yeah,
and he did not do that. Yeah, And that's why
he's on waivers. That's why the Canucks are trying to
trade him right now, and they're gonna have a hell
of a time.

Speaker 1 (01:06:59):
Well, you mentioned on buff and Rough this morning, you
see a possibility. Is there a possibility of a termination
contract termination?

Speaker 4 (01:07:07):
Well, yeah, that's down the road. You got to let
him go to Abasford. See how he fits in, be
a good role model.

Speaker 1 (01:07:12):
Produce.

Speaker 4 (01:07:13):
You're getting four hundred and fifty thousand dollars and that's us.
All those Abbey guys getting paid in US dollars, not
Canadian dollars. So go down there, you know, go and produce,
be in their top six and if everything works out,
it could still work out.

Speaker 1 (01:07:27):
So when it comes to waivers today, there's a new
name on waivers in Vancouver Canucks, and that is moments ago,
the Canucks announced that Nails, a man has been placed
on waivers to be assigned to Abbitsford.

Speaker 4 (01:07:38):
No surprise here, and this is just a numbers game.
He was not going to be a centerment in Vancouver.
He's going to go down and he'll play in the port.
He'll get more ice time. Even if he made the Canucks, Ryan,
he would have been a fourth line guy. Yeah, So
he's going to go down to Abersford and give Manny Mahultra,
you know, a centerman that he needs down there. But

(01:07:59):
the big one tonight, for me, this was expected. I
think we all saw this. The big one tonight Canucks
and Oilers. Ryan is going to be Coots. What does
Coots do tonight? I think it's a very important game
for him. And let's see how if he forces the
team to keep him beyond tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:08:16):
Well, and if you missed it earlier, again, Brandon Coots
is skating this morning at morning Skate, Oh yeah, with
Evander Kine and Jonathan L. Karamaki. So I mean, like
that is a that's a heck of a couple of
wingers that you were in the middle of there, and
you're they're giving you all the chance in the world
here to at least get nine games.

Speaker 4 (01:08:36):
If you want nine games, and you know what, just
go out and play a game. He's been an absolute
treat to watch. He's been a great story. Just love
the draft pick. And he is proving everyone right about
what they identified him early last year. Right, a lot
of teams in the NHL had Coots in the twenties.
Canucks were won a few teams that had Coots in
the mid teens, and that's where he went. And you

(01:08:59):
know what they identified him early last year. They loved
his work, ethic, leadership, character, youngest captain in the Western
Hockey League.

Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
This kid is on an absolute role. I love it.

Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
You know what, not many eighteen year olds make NHL teams.
He's not six four two twenty. If he gets sent down,
it's probably going to be that part of it, the physicality.
He's not a big kid, so that keep an eye
on that and how he handles the physicality of the NHL.

Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
One thing not listed here is the goaltenders Thatcher Demko
will start tonight for the Vancer.

Speaker 4 (01:09:31):
Those people the Canucks again, these guys on Twitter are
these troublemakers, stirring it out, stirring it out, this gang
of five led by this idiot Chester blaying. But listen,
when the Canucks announced demp go it was having a
what was it, well.

Speaker 1 (01:09:45):
It was a personal day.

Speaker 4 (01:09:47):
Was off the all these guys trying to make oh
my god, he's injured. I told you he's not injured.
You're allowed to take a personal day. And guess what,
he's back. He's playing the one thing making their fearmonger. Yeah,
but that's all Twitter is this fear mongering.

Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
I will say the history of injury, like the history
of injuries has not been good. Look even recently, Nils
Hoglander week to week, suddenly surgery stop, stop, stopped stop.

Speaker 4 (01:10:12):
He had a sprained ankle, right, yeah, then they did
more imaging. The ankle was swollen they did more X
rays five days later. They found a little crack. You
can't blame them for that. You go down, No, that's strain.
Let the spriding go down. More x rays, little crack, surgery,

(01:10:32):
you can't blame him for that. And the Demico thing,
all these fear mongers. No, he's injured, he's injured. No,
he's not injured.

Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
He took a personal day. You're allowed to do that. Well,
especially in the preseason. I mean, look at the Adam
Foote saying yesterday, Derek Forebert, they're doing a load management
thing with him. Uh, Pierre Olivia, Joseph he's got a
bit of a groin injury. He's out right now as well.
I mean, this is the preseason we gotta remember. And
I'm good they're taking They're giving all these guys an
opportunity in the preseason, and with the Vets since they're

(01:11:00):
taking it slow. The Vankin thing is a little weird.
So I don't get why. And and let's see how
Caine is tonight. Absolutely absolutely uh okay. Again a reminder
Tomorrow Gravy Bowl for the BC Lions, four o'clock kickoff
at BC Place as they take on the Stampeders Sunday,
White Caps three o'clock at PC Place. Hold on, do

(01:11:21):
you want to do this one more time?

Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
UBC men's hockey team tonight at home opener against McEwan.
There we go from Edmonton. That's from my good palse
to Walters out at UBC.

Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
If you missed it in uh, check our first segment.
See how how badly I've already teed ripped into them. Uh,
you've got some business break to talk about our friends
at Pastime Sports. Yeah, here we go. Check out the
largest selection of sports Memorabiley autographed items, trading cards, and
collectible games at Western Canada Pastime Sports the place to
be in Langley. We've got two feature signings. Well, this

(01:11:54):
is Sunday right coming up?

Speaker 4 (01:11:55):
Yes, it is actually Putter Garland this Sunday in Langley,
uh Debrasca on the twenty second of November. Jonathan Lkaramaki
is to be announced at a later date. Details on
these events, upcoming signings and card drops are available at
Pastime Sports dot c.

Speaker 1 (01:12:12):
A uh in front of the laptop today, I we
one thing we haven't mentioned. Oh it's a little you
can't really see it. It's a little off to the
right there. But one thing we haven't mentioned today Buccaneers.
So I've got the mini Buccaneers helmet the Tampa base
in Seattle, along with the Seahawks mini helmet as well.
So we've got two mini helmets. Because the Buccaneers are
in Seattle, they're wearing their old uniforms.

Speaker 4 (01:12:33):
Yeah, both teams are. Yeah, both their old logo Tampa
Bays so nice. Yeah, so they got the I hate
this logo, I hate their new colors, but the Tampa
Bay uniforms in the eighties, the Buccaneers were so good.

Speaker 1 (01:12:44):
So they got the creamschool jerseys for the Bucks, and
the Seahawks are going to wear the larger era blue
jerseys with the green as well. So it's going to
be a fantastic uniform matchup. It's also going to be
insane in Seattle because you got the Seahawks at one,
you got the Oars at just after five o'clock on Sunday.
That's game number two with the Alds, So it is
going to be a crazy time in Seattle. And a

(01:13:07):
reminder tomorrow game one for the Jays one oh eight,
first pitch in Toronto again for Canada's team coming up next.
It's a big day of music today, Rick, Oh, I
know you're all over it for the Swifties. At least,
DTMZ is up next to Donnie Ellie the team on Check.

Speaker 4 (01:13:29):
It's eleven thirty four on a Friday morning. Donnie Donli
on Check TV. No time for DTMZ. Brought to you
by the world famous Whistler Golf Club. Go see big
al out there. Great track, great track.

Speaker 1 (01:13:40):
DTMZ brought to you by the Arnold Palmer Design Whistler
Golf Club where they're extension extensive golf course renovation is underway.
For weekly updates on their construction progress. They're making, I
mean they are moving these guys. Follow them on Instagram
at Whistler Golf All right, Rick, I mentioned it. I

(01:14:01):
teased it before the break, and I know everybody is
looking forward to hearing about this. But today is a
big Dame music Why Taylor Swift fans, because today she's
releasing her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.
Twelve songs on the album Okay, accompanied by a movie
which is in theaters over the weekend, which features behind
the scenes footage about the album and a premiere of

(01:14:22):
a music video for the track Fate of Ophelia, which
we're hearing right now. There is a Vancouver connection to
Taylor's new album though, because as the outro on the
final track of the album plays, it features crowd noise,
and that crowd noise was captured at her final Eras
tour stop here in Vancouver at BC Place last December.

(01:14:46):
Speaking of concerts, though, Taylor Swift breaking Swifty's hearts by
telling BBC in an interview last week she has no
plans to tour at the moment that she's still processing
the Era's tour and is still exhausted from it. So,
twelfth studio album out today for Taylor Swift.

Speaker 4 (01:15:01):
I know you're excited by that, Rick, I am not
going to rush out and get it.

Speaker 1 (01:15:06):
You know what. Okay, you appreciate this though you always
bring up back in the eighties, the old times. She
does nothing for me. There were Swifties lined up at
Target stores around the United States waiting to buy a
physical copy of the album, much like the old days.
Did you ever do that? Did you ever line up
for the Yeah, Woodwards? We used to go to Woodwards,
you know, and get the new Billy Idol album or

(01:15:27):
something rebel yell.

Speaker 4 (01:15:29):
Yeah, def Leopard, Pyromania, you know, give me some deaf
Leopard news.

Speaker 1 (01:15:34):
I don't want that. I unfortunately have no deaf Leopard news.
But well, Pyromania came out in nineteen eighty three. Great album. Yeah,
I know you love her. You left Leopard was great.
They were here over the summer. Def Leppard. Yeah, they
played a small private gig at Malcolm Boll. There's Stanley Park.
Yeah yeah, Stanley Park. You're familiar with that great song? Yeah? Absolutely, Okay,
time for birthdays. It's up to you now. We have

(01:15:55):
no Nina to help us there.

Speaker 4 (01:15:56):
Oh hey birthdays yeah, birthdays now, yeah, okay, so we
got five. Birthday is October third. Brought to you by
Ryan put the Pitcher up. Little Ricky's car Wash and
Casino in Manawaucki Quebec Home up, Gino Ojic Our artwork
courtesy at j Packen Mission.

Speaker 1 (01:16:11):
And you do have new artworks starting on Monday. We
have some new stuff. It's good.

Speaker 4 (01:16:16):
It's good stuff. Who sent it? Mario in Mario Mario
and Richmond.

Speaker 1 (01:16:22):
Good guy. Okay. Canucks draft pick, fifth round twenty fifteen.
He played in Vancouver from twenty seventeen to twenty twenty.
Traded by Vancouver to Chicago from Matthew high More. Come on, man,
scored nineteen goals for Travis Green last year in Ottawa. Oh,
Adam godet, adam gotet. I knew the Travis Green thing.

(01:16:43):
Yeah that would help me. Eh, there's a guy like
this one. You guys will not get both of you.

Speaker 4 (01:16:50):
Born in Arlington, Texas, big defenseman, fourth overall in the
NHL Draft to Nashville in twenty thirteen. Don't google that,
hands off. He just won this down the Cup of
Florida last year. Seth Jones, Seth Jones, I thank his father.
His father played in the NBA. Yeah, in Denver, he
asked Joe Sakic, I got some young kids, Joe, what

(01:17:11):
should I do? I want to put him in hockey.
Joe Sakic and Denver gave him some great advice. Two
of the kids in the NHL.

Speaker 1 (01:17:17):
If there's a guy moves on gets traded to Florida.
His dad was Popeye Jones.

Speaker 4 (01:17:22):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Popeye the cartoon was great, to say,
the man, Papa, the sailor man. He loves his spinach. Oh,
I'm a huge spinish guy. Every day anyways. American singer, songwriter,
fashion designer rose to fame as a member and lead
vocalist of the band No Doubt.

Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
Gwen Stefani, how do you know that? No Doubt? That's
my era. I appreciate you including that because that's like
early two thousands.

Speaker 4 (01:17:48):
No Doubt was her and her husband there the country
on the Voice. Yeah, I watched the Voice.

Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
Quite a bit. Booble's on there now, Booblet, Michael Bublet.
Burnaby's a very own play.

Speaker 4 (01:17:59):
This American music and drummer was noted for mooning the
crowd at nearly every show.

Speaker 1 (01:18:04):
Yeah, I know this one. I saw it earlier today. Okay,
see do you cat? Are you playing his song out? No? No, okay,
you know what We'll leave it for for Derek. Derek.
You don't know it. Derek. He helped very infamous drummer.

Speaker 4 (01:18:17):
He helped unite, a popular band who released his debut album,
Too Fast for Love in nineteen eighty one. He filmed
He filmed the sex tape with his wife. Okay, well,
I gotta keep going. What are you talking about? That's
a clue you're using. I gotta use the clue.

Speaker 1 (01:18:32):
Yeah, Derek just got it.

Speaker 4 (01:18:33):
Tommy, he filmed the sex tape with his wife during
the nineteen nineteen ninety nine honeymoon, a month before it
was stolen from you.

Speaker 1 (01:18:41):
Do you remember have that tape? Of course I had
the tape. Everybody had the tape in the nineties. I
believe you shared that tape of that. There's a story.

Speaker 4 (01:18:49):
There's a story about that I cannot share on the air.
But that tape was a cassette. It was a cassette.

Speaker 1 (01:18:54):
Yeah, we still had the VCR back. Yeah, I missed
the VCR. Yeah. Did you ever watch the movie the
which Tommy? Yeah? Yeah, Well, Donty goes on about that
all the time that was turning sixty whole prosts of duplicating. Well,

(01:19:15):
Darry's just saying that that Pam and Tommy show really
showed like people forget and not long ago, it wasn't
so easy to just have a file and blow it
out to the entire world. And so the the the
enterprise behind that tape and duplicating that tape and getting
it out to people was big business at the time,

(01:19:37):
was so good.

Speaker 4 (01:19:37):
And and the documentary on Montley Crue was unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (01:19:41):
The dirt, Yeah, the dirt. Yeah, it was, it was.
It was. It wasn't a documentary, it was a biopic.
You could say the same thing. Not not really and
machine Gun Kelly was Tommy that he did a good job. Actually,
you know what, I was going to play us out
because on Sunday. On Sunday is Steve Miller's birthday. Who

(01:20:02):
I know you love Steve Miller from the Steve Miller
I saw. I was gonna play this out with Flylag
and just because you asked for it, little shout at
the Devil by Motley Crue is gonna play us all? Oh, Tommy,
the drums here, so we'll play us out with Motley Crue.
How old is he today? Sixty two sixty two, Happy
birthday to Tommy, the big fan of the show. I
know Motley Crue shout at the Devil playing us out?

(01:20:23):
Is it just me up next to Donny Dowdy the
team I check.

Speaker 4 (01:20:36):
The Vancouver Giants are celebrating their twenty fifth anniversary season

Speaker 4 (01:21:49):
I don't usually agree with Rick on those things, but
this time I do. These new Mariners menu options are
a cash grap this is not baseball stick with hot dogs,
burgers and pizza camp for Victoria, says he agrees with me.
Takes a shot of meat. But but that's fine. But
what was the caviar?

Speaker 1 (01:22:05):
Yeah? And what what was in the caviar? If you
missed it earlier, they showed the picture. Let me find
the photo again if you missed it earlier. The Mariners
are unveiling at Mariner's playoff games this year new food items, right, caviar,
get it up? And oysters. Yeah, I'm trying to get it.
Twitter is acting up right now. But see one of

(01:22:26):
the items they have. Yeah, seafood. It was seafood. It's here,
it is here, here, it is here. Here's the on
the bottom left is called the crabs in caviar and
so it's crab legs and then inside is like a
caviar purede who goes to a baseball game and wants
caviar and crab. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:22:45):
I want a hot dog, I want a beer and
that's it. A pretzel like the pretzel. I don't mind
even pizza. I'm okay with ye at a baseball game,
but I don't want caviard crabs.

Speaker 1 (01:22:55):
What is this?

Speaker 4 (01:22:55):
And it's like, as Cam said, you know what it is, right,
it's a cash grab.

Speaker 1 (01:23:00):
Yeah, well, we did have another one regarding this topic here.
This is from where is it here? This is from
Ron from n D. Is it just me? But if
the Blue Jays were selling the crab and cavea, Rick
would be saying.

Speaker 4 (01:23:12):
Stop that caviar at the Blue Jays games.

Speaker 1 (01:23:17):
And speaking of the Blue Jays, Trevor and Ladder, Is
it just me? Uh?

Speaker 4 (01:23:20):
Or does Rick really want to go to Toronto for
the weekend be with his people watching the J's. Okay, yeah, okay,
that's a fair point. No, I'm getting a lot of
the J's are not Canada's team. Yes they are. You
are in Canada. Support Canada and be a good Canadian
and don't be uh. They're supporting a team in the
US two hours down the highway.

Speaker 1 (01:23:40):
There's your two hours away. Though it's two hours. It's
in the US, but it's in our back. Who got
a US president that is marketing and he's trying to
you know, you know, like and we should be boycotting
everything us not supporting the Mariners. You see, you're not
going to bellis fair? I never said that. I but

(01:24:02):
I what I said, I haven't gone. I have boycotted,
said you have? He said, make Canada the state. So
I have not gone down. Okay, another one here, This
is from Surrey, Troy, regular contributor to The Good Guy.
Is it just me? But I know it's only preseason.
Still very encouraging that Pete actually wanted the puck and

(01:24:23):
didn't hot potato it. He's referring to his goal the
other night.

Speaker 4 (01:24:27):
Even Donnie, even Donnie eleven six, eleven six, But eleven six,
that was a great goal.

Speaker 1 (01:24:34):
And you know what and who served it up to?

Speaker 4 (01:24:37):
With the beautiful past Hughes. Okay, Ryan, is it just me?
But does Rick treat the eighties like it was the
peak of humanity and nothing from another time can be
better in the eighties. As Sheldon from Surrey, I will
never apologize. The eighties is my best decade. Everything was
fun in the eighties. I wish we were back in
the eighties and I love the eighties. Uh And and

(01:24:59):
Sheldon has I will never stop loving this eighties. It
was my favorite decade, bottom line. Yeah, but he that
that submission is correct. You had to be in the
eighties to understand the eighties. Yeah, and it was a
great decade. This is unsigned, but it makes you think. Okay,
is it just me? But if you have no chance.

Speaker 1 (01:25:18):
Of re signing either player, would you trade two years
for Quinn Hughes for one year of Connor McDavid.

Speaker 4 (01:25:27):
Yeah, that's interesting, that's a it makes you. I take
to always to a Quinn. I think Quinn Hughes is
a special, special, special player.

Speaker 1 (01:25:36):
I'd take two of Quinn like you, you take out
Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks and insert Connor McDavid. Yeah,
they're I mean, is it almost even? Yeah? Maybe maybe
slightly better, But I mean we're just never in this city.

Speaker 4 (01:25:52):
We've been watching the Canucks since nineteen seventy I have,
but anyways, we never had a defenseman like Quinn Hughes.

Speaker 1 (01:25:58):
Oh, you're right.

Speaker 4 (01:25:59):
He is simply a special special kid Rick Seattle three
hours a way and geographically generally dictates the team fan base.
But you're right, nationality comes first, Scott and black Creek.

Speaker 1 (01:26:10):
There you go. See. Oh wait, no, yeah, he's agree
with you. Never mind, I agree with me. Blue Jay
had me on the first part of the submission. There.
You should be rooting for the blue Jay's bottom line.
I'm good. Nothing Toronto for me, I'm good. That's your reason. Yes,
I hate Toronto too, not enough.

Speaker 4 (01:26:28):
It's not as much national team going for a national
North American title.

Speaker 1 (01:26:33):
So if they win the World Series, I'm jumping five
hundred feet in the air. Will they bring the trophy
to Vancouver? Did dave? It's a Skatchewan in Manitoba and
so nobody in Vancouver's gonna cheer if they do. But
will the Jays take it around? Do you care if
they bring it here? Because if they're Canada's team, they
should be celebrating with the entire nation. You clearly didn't
celebrate in ninety two to ninety three and Joe Carter

(01:26:54):
I was three years old. So that's why I did.
I know, I know, I know you did. Okay, that's it,
final segment of the week. We're gonna wrap up the show.

Speaker 4 (01:27:30):
I don't think they're like us. I think that's been
well established.

Speaker 1 (01:27:33):
I don't think that that's gonna happen. But we end
that we no matter what, we end the week in
a positive fun way. Yeah, Patrick, Hernanda isn't born to
be a lot. Time now to wrap up our Waddling

are you most interested in this week? And and man,
we're getting killed for not putting the lines in there.

Speaker 1 (01:28:07):
I know that was your mistake. Yeah, because here's the
I said put the Lions in, but then I should
have put the white Caps and we only have room
for four, so I just put the Lions. It's a
massive game.

Speaker 4 (01:28:16):
It's a massive game starting place in the Western The
line Canucks roster decisions is winning fifty three percent.

Speaker 1 (01:28:21):
Blue Jays.

Speaker 4 (01:28:23):
This tells you right here that it's Canada's team thirty five.
And then your Mariners at the bottom where they belong
twelve percent, seven hundred and eighty two votes.

Speaker 1 (01:28:32):
Already reminder Game one Jay's Yankees Tomorrow one oh eight pm,
Mariners Tigers five thirty eight pm tomorrow. After Cam Schlittler
and the Yankees advanced yesterday over the Red Sox, Ricky,
you got a photo.

Speaker 4 (01:28:47):

Speaker 1 (01:29:37):

kind of muted, a little, not a lot of color.
It's not really pop. Doesn't have to be. You just
want the palm trees all you get the vibe, You
get the vibe. We got a few seconds, Ricky, go
one more? Is it just Aaron and Lethbridge.

Speaker 4 (01:29:56):
Let's have Alberta born Braden Coots stay for one day
of the regular season, still have time to gain tremendous
experience to yes, take down to the dub and Seattle.
So Aaron and Lethbridge would love for the Canucks to
keep Braden Coots and Alberta boy around.

Speaker 1 (01:30:13):
Yeah. I mean, like I say, this is just so
incredibly impressive that we are again on the day of
our final preseason game for the Vancouver Canucks and Braiden
Coots is paired alongside of Andander Kaine and Jonathan Lacaramaki.
Just super impressive stuff from the kid yes, really impressive again.
Canucks wrapping up the preseason tonight, thankfully at seven o'clock
