How are you couldn't be better? We were all ready
to talk about the Canucks foster decisions over the weekend,
(01:02):
about the Lions and their win, the white Caps and
their win, the Blue Jays, how about what they're doing
to the new York Yankees are right now. But man,
there is news out of and by the way, also
Raptors and Nuggets playing tonight NBA preseason at Rogers' Arena.
But how about this news out of Evonton? Right? Have
(01:23):
we got the tweet from the Evanson Oilers Connor McDavid
has extended his contract with the Evonton Oilers and Rick,
you can do the honors here. This is, I would say,
stunning shock, even shocking.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Is shocking to me. The owners have signed Connor McDavid
do a two year contract. It is an aav A
twelve point five million Donnie, let me tell you something.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
What he's making now.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Yeah, he could have easily got seventeen eighteen, nineteen twenty
million a year. He said to himself, I want to
take less so the Oilers can build around me in
dry Title and Nurse and Bouchard and signed players and
win the Cup. The Oilers are on the clock. They
got three years to win a cup. Where he's gone,
don he's gone, They got they're on the clock. He
(02:10):
did them a big favor. If I'm the NHLPA right now,
I'm not doing Cartwell's done. The best players.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Who cares that it matters. It matters.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
The best player in hockey took almost eight million less
than he should have. It's a big thing done, it's
a big thing. But you're right too. This guy said
I want to win, and he showed up and he
said I'll take less.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, I mean, And then the list of players that
he's going to be making less than over the next
three years is going to grow and grow. And Matthews
and the caprice of dry settles making fourteen million long
term in Evonton. But I have nothing but respect for
the for this decision. And I'm just looking ahead the Oilers.
(02:58):
All due respect to Connor ingram Mer Campbell's Blazers, Blazer,
they haven't done much to improve their goaltending situation. You
would have to think obviously this is obvious, but down
the line, that's got to be their number one priority.
Sergei Bobrowski is a free, unrestricted free agent at the
end of this season. Absolutely, and you know, I you know,
(03:18):
I'm thinking way too far ahead here, but obviously that
is something they have to be thinking about. I don't
know what, who, what other goaltenders would be available, but
there's one that you would think and again skinners Throwart
Skinner to all due respect to him and Connor Ingram
and Calvin Pickard. That's something they have to be thinking of.
But this gives them room to do it. And I
(03:41):
always thought that you'd never see anything like what Sidney
Crosby did in Pittsburgh. And how's that working of? By
the way, taking eight point seven when he could have
when demanded a whole lot more assigned for a whole
lot more in Pittsburgh or elsewhere. You would think this
is something else is believe you just don't see it.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
I'm shocked at the number, Don. There were rumors fifteen million,
maybe fourteen, but to go down to twelve and a
half for the best player in the National Hockey League
that he's telling you, he's telling you I want to win.
I want to win at Edmonton. But the owners better
do all the right moves, Don, And you nailed it
about the goltending. If they go again to the Stanley
(04:21):
Cup Finals this year and lose and the goaltending is
the same, clearly they're going to change it. They're going
to Clearly they're going to change it. But my goodness,
I got to give the guy credit. Very few never
mind hockey players. Very few people in society would take less.
Everybody's looking for more money at their job. Everybody's changing
companies to go get more than another company. Everyone's doing that.
(04:44):
That's human nature. And this guy sits back and says
he could have got twenty million if the agent and
Connor said I want twenty million, the owners had the
number was thrown around.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Over the last few weeks, over the last few he
could have got it. He could have got it. He
could have gone. Caprisov is getting seventeen million a year
in Minnesota. Again, all due respect to him, you'd have
to think that at the very least Connor McDavid is
worth more than a million more or two months. What
if the case. It may be nothing but respect for
him here. And I know people are going to say, what,
(05:14):
don what are you talking about. He's still making twelve
and a half million. He's going to be set for life.
They live in it. They live in a completely a
completely different world, Connor McDavid. This tells me that the
biggest fear in his life, other than the obvious fears
we all have, it retiring like Marcel Dion did. Jerome
(05:36):
mcginla again, nothing against them, but being one of the
greatest players of all time and if you've seen him live,
arguably the most skilled player of all time. I don't
know how much argument you'd get and not winning a
Stanley Cup. So he's put that out there, like I
don't I do not want to retire and not having
Stanley Cup in my resume. He's put that out there.
(05:59):
You know, he's you know, he's taken a lot less
money and I respect him for it.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
And coming out of this contract, he's going to get
his nineteen twenty million.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
He's not going to go backwards like Donny.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
He will come out of this contract when his contract's
up in three years and he'll still get his money.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
As long as.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
He's got a cup. He'll stay in Edmonton. But he'll
get his seventeen eighteen million down the road. But right
now he sent a strong message I want the Cup
and he's taken less.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Yeah. Again, he's very well read. You can tell he's
a student of the game. He knows about the players
that have retired, the great great players through time who
have retired without winning a Stanley Cup. Jill Thornton's another
one there, and he doesn't want there, and those players
are so well respected and they've accomplished so much. But
(06:49):
you know, Connor McDavid, I mean, how many individual awards
you know that he will have by the end of
his career, Heart trophies, art right, Look, I'm getting choked
just thinking about it. Heart trophies, art, ross trophies, et cetera,
et cetera. But he wants, he wants, he wants the
big one and wants it badly. And he's proven that,
(07:10):
proven that today. And here's a great thing for the Oilers.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
The cap is going up and some people think it's
going to be way higher on way higher than what
the early figures are. So that tells me the Oilers
at him at twelve, cap going up significantly in the
next two years, there are going to have the cap
space to go and sign the players they feel are
necessary to win a cap.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Now keep in mind, you look at this two year extension.
Remember this, this keeps the advantave for three yearsars under
the terms of the old contract, that still has a
year to go. So he's there, you know, barring some
transaction of some sort that we just you know, unforeseen transaction.
For three years, you.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Got a given credit Donnie, you take that much less?
This folks is a twenty million dollars player and he
took twelve and a half. How do you not respect that?
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Ryan? They're whining, but how do you not respect this?
Don I do? And and Ryan you're in this. It
sound like he's doing the lord's work. Man Ry. We've
had this conversation a million times, and if you were
in his shoes, you might think this way. These guys
are in a different world. And I respect him for this,
(08:21):
because yes, he's set for life given the terms of
the old contract, probably before I get all that. But
they live in a different world. Okay, they're not They're
not comparing themselves and I'm not feeling sorry for them
for one second. They're not comparing themselves to you and
me and Derek. Well maybe maybe Derek. I he's got
a lot of hit money there, but Rick, et cetera.
(08:44):
They're comparing themselves to their peers, and they're not thinking
of just their their lives now. They're thinking way ahead.
They're thinking of family, extended family. They're thinking of grandchildren,
great grandchildren, and you'd be the exact same.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
He's still thing is, is all of his kids all
of these guys, right, what were they first? They were first,
they were kids when they were playing He's generation player,
playing minor hockey though, and road hockey and whatever. They
weren't thinking, like, they weren't playing with their buddies going,
you know what, one day, IM gonna make twenty million.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
No, but their dads were they were yeah, no doubt.
Well we were thinking I want to win something.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
So it's nice for an athlete for once to just
go maybe I should just try and win, and yeah,
I get paid really well.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
At the same time, he's getting paid.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
Really really good money because like what with his endorsements,
he's still making what fifteen million a year, maybe almost
twenty million with his endorsements. Well, okay, look like he's
still doing more than fine. People are making it out
to be like we've had this argument. My goodness, he's
such an amazing soul. No, just for once in his
life he's actually going I want to win something. Just
having a ton of money.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
And have respect for him to in that world. I'm sorry,
I ever in that world. This is something that I
think and the world that we watch and adore. It's
something that we can respect. They's trying to win respect
that because it's a rare Let's get off the subject
here and talk about something we talked about before the
(10:11):
show started. What does this mean for I'm not sure
you can drop comparisons. We're talking about the best player
in the world and Quinn Hughes is right is right
up there. But you know, can you see Quinn Hughes
signing a similar deal.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
I can't see Quinn hugh saying I'm gonna take eight
you know, I'm gonna take forty percent less to stay
in Vancouver. The reason he took less They've been to
the Stanley Cup finals back to back years, you know,
so he's close. They're close to going to the Cup again,
and they're close to winning it. Quinn Hughes is nowhere
near close to winning a cup. Quinn Hughes is not
gonna say to the Canucks I'll take forty percent less.
(10:46):
Not a chance down, not a chance.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
But in terms of term, okay, I could see him
signing a two year deal, right. I don't I don't
know what you know, the financial what the numbers are financially,
but I could see him signing it two your deal.
He proved to me that, you know, we're gonna bess.
But Connor doesn't have two brothers in New Jersey. That's one.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
This guy's got two brothers in New Jersey who keeps
saying we want to play with Quinn. That's a big
time problem for the Vancouver Canucks. Connor doesn't have two
brothers in another city, Quinn. He might go there and
they might not win.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Quinn.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Also, more importantly, he has McDavid as a team that
literally is knocking on the door right back to back
years like they're there.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
That's not literally, But yeah, how far does miles away
from Stanley Vancouver?
Speaker 1 (11:36):
He's not last year? No, No, you're right, I think
people if I know Jack Hughes was injured.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Jack, they lost Jack, they lost you. But Quinn Hughes
is it's gonna come down to winning too. And Quinn
hughes contract is up at the same time as who's
done kill mccarr, I don't see him taking a penny
less than kill mccarr and Cale mccarr is gonna be
in double digits and he's gonna make a ton of money.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
But you just said that, and yet could you see
McDavid taking a penny less than career caprice off. Well
you did. I mean, this is stunning news today, Donny,
it is shocking.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
There is a kid in Utah, Cooley, who just shot
down nine point six million dollars a year from the
Utah And that's a twenty one year old kid in
his entry level deal and he said no to nine
point six million dollars. Sure, every player, every agent is
out there trying to get the most money.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Today. McDavid just blew that out of the water. This
is from Rock and Raje. Thanks Ryan for your opinion
on the economic David contract. Donny Dolly are out of touch.
They can't even figure out that twelve million in this case,
twelve and a half is still amazing money. They're still
out of touch. Thanks Ryan for being a voice of reason.
Rock and Raj, you are a bang on having said that.
(12:53):
I'd love to see you in the same situation every guy. Okay,
just hold the Ryan.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Tomorrow you get another company coming to you that doubles
your salary.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Stode, it's double is your salary? Are you saying no?
Speaker 4 (13:05):
Are you saying no no, You're saying bock on no direct.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
So here's how I do, Here's how I wreck. Here's
here's how I can shoot that down. So my salary doubles,
that changes my life significantly?
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Yes, that does it?
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Changing my life significantly.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
Does Conor McDavid's life change significantly from twelve million to
twenty million dollars every penny?
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (13:27):
Does it change? No, it doesn't. He's got the same line.
Everything made free. He's kids, sorry, everything their lives.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
So by that thinking, every player that's making five hundred
thousand dollars or more shouldn't take any anything more. No,
because again I'm saying I'm going to change that.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
Double a five hundred thousand dollars person, you double that,
even that's a life changing Speaking about twelve million to
twenty that doesn't touch you.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Guys are completely out attached because if you're in the
same situation, most people would want more money. They would,
they would. I don't.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
I'm not disagreeing with you with you on that because okay,
every player in the nhlating yourself, you would leave in a.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Heartbeat if somebody doubled your salary, you'd be saying.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
You're not you're not listening to me, You're not to me.
This guy double my salary. That Jess is my life.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
Ryan this guy took eight million dollars less.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
And so is he gonna go to the food bank
and everything?
Speaker 6 (14:20):
That?
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Okay, but he took eight million less? How are they
gonna afford? To the nhlps probably really pissed. I'm so
sorry for them. I'm so serving that Carol Caprisof is
the richest man in the NHL. There's a chance he's
not gonna come close to a cup. So oh great,
he's got a ton of money, never gonna be close.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
To his head. You're not gonna give him credit for
taking eight million dollars less.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
No, you're really making twelve and a half million dollars
and he's man, this dude, how's he gonna afford gaps?
He should be making twenty million a years. So you
have more respect for CAPRICEO.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
No, I'm saying I have way more respect for me,
David the computer, way more. Let's agree on that.
Speaker 5 (14:56):
Oh yeah, No, I said that he's bucking the trend
out of every athlete across four Q.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Yeah. Absolutely, it's not just it's not such a NHL,
it's every it's every every league. Good good on him.
I love these people who think that you've got a
great point there like it just it just makes me laugh.
If they're in the same situation, they'd be going, what who,
I'm twelve and a half. I want more than that, Donny.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
Who's going to their Boston saying give me sixty thousand
dollars less than salary?
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Nobody?
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Not a single soul in society, not a single soul. Ryan, Yeah, okay,
you go to your Boston the next deal and say
give me less again.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
Everybody wants you more in my life, in a human,
normal life with a normal job.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Yeah, that's massive change. Twelve and a half million to
twenty million. Nothing changes for that, dude. Nothing. Okay, it doesn't, No,
it doesn't. But again, they live in a different world exactly.
And you just said it yourself like this is this
is such an exception, and he's going to be fine.
Most people, not just pro athletes, would not would not
(16:01):
accept that. Thank you, thank you. I'd just love to
see you in that situation. We won't.
Speaker 5 (16:08):
But no, I could never dream of being in a
negotiation where you're talking about these kind of figures.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
DTMZ. Is it just me coming up in the eleven
o'clock hour, Elliott and Elliot's been all over the story.
By the way, Elliott Friedman from Sportsnet is going to
join us just after eleven o'clock. Big ride, the Twitter
guy coming up later this hour or a dream. And
we didn't even get to the Canucks roster. Oh, Coots
sticking around.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
Good on the kid, there's another great story.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Yeah, Okay, we'll see what happens with his contract negotiations
if he ends up being a superstar. But he's been
really impressive. And I will say this. I know we're
out of time here, Ryan, but and we take our
shots at the Canucks to the detriment of the show
at times, by the way, especially you, but the Connects
(17:01):
had an excellent camp and preseason a lot of a
lot of really positive stories and growth from their young players. Yes,
and you can say what you want about the preseason.
It's too long, and I agree with all of that.
But Coots elector Mackie Mancini and he's gone down to
Abbotsford v. Lander. But there's there's some growth there and
(17:22):
some positivity surrounding the organization. You gotta watch yourself with
those comments. No negativity, uh Ian, there's some negativity in
the Seattle market regarding the Seahawks. Although that was such
an entertaining game yesterday, but look at what's happening with
the Mariners. Ian Farnessa is going to join us from
KGr Sports Radio in Seattle. Thanks so much for tuning in,

Fraser Highway in Surrey. We're joined now by Infnest from
KGRS Sports Radio and the Craken Hockey Network down there
in Seattle, and thanks for doing this. How is traffic
(19:22):
yesterday by the way, Mariners big game, Seahawks big game,
same area.
Speaker 8 (19:28):
Yeah, it was, it was crazy. I kind of avoided it.
I got there early enough for the Seahawks game and
gotten their parking garage and then I when I left,
it was I snuck out of that garage. So I
kind of avoided it. But I can tell you this traffic,
I'm sure was awful. More than that, there's just a
zillion people down there.
Speaker 9 (19:47):
Was crazy.
Speaker 8 (19:47):
I mean it was the great energy. You know, the
SEAHTK game was a bummer for Seattle fans, but the
energy down there was unbelievable. After the game, after the
Maurners game, it was crazy outside and I mean it
was it was fun. It was really fun. It's spent
a long time, and I mean twenty four years since
the baseball team won a home playoff game a lot
ye a long time, so the celebration was on for sure.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Okay, So we'll get back to Seattle in a second,
and this needs just broke about Connor McDavis. Yeah, right,
he signs a two year extension. That's not totally surprising. Surprising,
but the AAV is twelve point five, same as he's
making right now. Do you have a reaction to.
Speaker 8 (20:24):
That, Well, I think it does show that he wants
to win. You know, he certainly could have taken more
and demand he could have demanded more, but then what
does that do to the rest of your team?
Speaker 9 (20:33):
Even with the increasing salary cap.
Speaker 8 (20:35):
So you know a lot of guys say they want
to win and then they go out and they demand
huge money in salary cap leagues, whether it's the NFL, hockey,
what have you. I don't really count the NBA because
the NBA salary cap is as soft as it gets,
so with with the luxury tax.
Speaker 9 (20:47):
So you know, I think in those two sports.
Speaker 8 (20:49):
In the NFL and in the NHL, if a guy says, hey,
winning the most important thing right now, I'm making my money,
I'm making generational money anyway, I'm making money in endorsements
and then he goes out, and you know, I think
the two year part of it is interesting, right, you know,
I think there's an opt out if I'm not mistaken,
so you know, kind of approve it to Edmonton as well.
But I love it, you know what. I just I
(21:10):
love seeing superstars stay with the same teams. I'm old
old fashioned in that regard, so I think, you know,
for me, I know, you know, if you're in the
Pacific Division, you probably don't love it, right, you know,
don't necessarily like that. But if you can keep him
in dry sidle together and that's always a heck of
a core and build around that, good for them.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
And three years he's a member of the Kraken, it all.
Speaker 9 (21:31):
It all works well, well, we'll see.
Speaker 8 (21:33):
I think he's a Canadian through and through and and
good for him staying up in Edmonton.
Speaker 9 (21:38):
I just I applaud that. I think it's great.
Speaker 8 (21:40):
You know, Gretzky leaving, I know is great for the
game overall, maybe coming to LA and all that, but
I just I like seeing those guys stay.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
Okay, back to football, now, what a game that was,
But that uniform matchup made him in the best of
all time, but thirty eight thirty five back and forth
Buccaneers when last play field goal two on it. What's
your take on a really outstanding performance by Sam Darnold
tarnished by that last minute pick.
Speaker 8 (22:07):
Yeah, I have more of a problem with the play call.
I mean you've got clock, you know, in your in
your hand. I mean you've got timeouts in your hand.
You've got you know, everything's working in your favor, and
it's second down and short, like really short, like a
less than the yard, right about a yard. I don't
know why you don't run the ball there, get the
first down. If you want to clock it at that point,
you do, but you know, don't risk something bad happening.
(22:30):
One of the bad things that could happen is you
could thrown in complete pass, clock stops, get stuffed on
third down, and then you've got to punt it away
and they still have a chance to come down and
score instead. You you know, you throw the ball, it
would have gained five or six yards, maybe over the middle.
The clock would have still been running. It hits a helmet,
it's a bad bounce. I think everything about it was
(22:51):
just poorly designed, poorly called, poorly everything, and that didn't
cost I mean that cost them the game in the end. Sure,
what cost in the game was the defense was a
And you know, I'm going into the press conference afterwards
listening to Mike McDonald. He took it all on himself.
He says, you know, that's on me, it's my and
I appreciate the accountability. And he's right, it is on him.
He's a defensive head coach and that defense was atrocious.
(23:13):
And part of it is they've got a lot of
guys banged up, but so does Tampa Bay. I've got
questions about Devin Witherspoon and his durability for sure. He's
now missed three of five games this season, again with
nine days off after playing every snap the week before.
Speaker 9 (23:29):
That's curious to me.
Speaker 8 (23:32):
The depth on the corner position and the defensive backfield
got tested. But even with all of that, they were
just just carved up by Baker Mayfield. So when McDonald
says it's on me, yeah, you know what it is
on you got to get You've got to get be
better because your offense puts on a show like that.
Speaker 9 (23:47):
They should not lose a football game.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
All right, let's talk baseball, first playoff home winning twenty
four years. A lot of great pitching so far in
this year's so no surprise it's been low scoring in
your eyes.
Speaker 8 (23:58):
Yet, yeah, it's certainly not as far as Detroit's concerned.
I mean they're offensively challenged. And you know, the Seattle
got a really good start. I mean Luis Castiel yesterday,
it was interesting. He put a lot of guys on,
walked a couple lead off batters, but really settled down,
didn't give up a hit until he got pulled in
the fifth inning. And his pitch count was really high
(24:21):
after two innings, over fifty and yet he settled down
and went nine to nine in terms of his pitches
the next couple of innings, which was really impressive. And
you know the other Enterrek Scooble yesterday is he's the
best pitcher in the game. And Luisa or Jorge Polonko
got on him twice, which is amazing. I mean two
and I think both they said were sliders, which he
hasn't ever given up.
Speaker 9 (24:40):
He doesn't give up slider home runs.
Speaker 8 (24:42):
And yeah, you see the one right there, I mean
that is just absolutely tattooed. That's his second one the
first one was the line drive. But you know you
beat scooball that's great. Here's kind of an interesting thing, guys.
You know how this works in series, you know series,
as opposed to a one game playoff. When you get
you know, the last one, you feel a lot better.
(25:02):
Right Like, if if Seattle would have won on Saturday,
lost yesterday, and then gone to Detroit tied to one
to one, I think the feeling would be a lot different. Instead,
they lose to a bullpen start for Detroit on Saturday,
don't score any run, score only a couple runs, and
then they beat Trek Scubell. Not technically he didn't take
the loss, but they beat him yesterday. You feel a
(25:23):
lot better going to Detroit. Really, even series, Seattle's offense
has got to get going. It's really been two guys
three I guess cal on Cal and Julio on Saturday, uh,
and then Julio and Polonka with the two Horme runs yesterday.
Nobody else has hit nobody. I mean, it's just it's
really has to be concerning. But the pitching has been elite,
the bullpen's been great. I probably expect two more low
(25:46):
scoring games on in games three and four Tuesday, Wednesday,
and you know, kind of wondering if Josh Naylor is
gonna get going. He's he's yeah, he's a big key
for them. He had an error yesterday. He's looked over
matched as that bats in his defense. His wife is
expecting it second now and she's in Arizona, so he's
probably worried about getting that all figured out and stuff
like that. So timing isn't great for him either.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Uh Ian, It's a pretty tough week for the crack
and to kick off another National Hockey League season, Season five,
a lot of injuries.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Can you update?
Speaker 4 (26:15):
I mean, man, they had a horrible training camp in
sense of injuries to.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
A lot of key guys.
Speaker 8 (26:21):
Yeah, they're off today, but I believe everyone should be
ready to go except for Coppo Coco. Uh just based
on practice and stuff. So I think, you know, outside
of but the Coco injury is a bad one. I mean,
they're they're a team We've talked about this a million times.
There a team built on depth, and they need him.
He's a top six forward for them and they can't
afford to lose top six forwards and so he's gonna
be out for at least the first month of the
(26:41):
season or so. But but everyone else, I think Dona
mccanner back Montour's back, so they they should be okay.
I mean, they're gonna be good on the back end
even without Ryker Evans. I didn't mention him. Ryker Evans
out with an oblique and he's out for about six
to eight weeks. They said, but they're they're they're deep
enough there. Josh Mchura can step in and be on
the third pair and he'll be fine there. Uh and
he was good last year with dun him on tour.
(27:02):
Lind Grin here now, Uh, they will be okay there.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (27:06):
You know, a backup goaltending is a question. Is it
gonna be Grubauer, Is it gonna be Murray? Joey's the
number one guy, There's no question about that. And you know,
can guy, I mean really honestly, it comes down to this,
Can Maddy Benier, Shane Wright, when Coppolcoco comes back, Can
guys like that, Ellie Toven in all these depth guys,
can they take that next step? Can some of your
veterans stay healthy and have better years? As you know,
(27:27):
it's just there's there's a lot of questions, but I
think a lot of teams have those questions, right, It's
just this team's built so different, guys.
Speaker 9 (27:34):
It just is it's just a different.
Speaker 8 (27:36):
Model that they don't have that high end guy that
should help you in terms of, you know, depth, in
terms of depth scoring. And but we'll see. I like
Lang Lambert, I like the structure. Everything here is great. Uh,
feedback about him has been fantastic. Tough camp, So we'll see, Yeah,
Anaheim and then the Vegas salary cap guys come in
(27:57):
rolling in.
Speaker 9 (27:58):
Who knows what they're doing on Saturday, so on week any.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Any thought just quickly in of the back to the
football of the Seahawks going full time with the blue,
Green and silver.
Speaker 8 (28:08):
Steve Largins, every Donnie, everybody wants that and like, like, honestly,
if you were to pull the city, that's like everyone
wants just do it.
Speaker 9 (28:17):
But the NFL is strange.
Speaker 8 (28:19):
They have a bunch of strange rules in terms of,
you know, when you can change uniforms and how you
change them and all that. And it's you know, the
green that stupid fluorescent you know, looks like a highlighter
you using college green is somehow still involved with them.
The helmet is an issue as well. You know, it's
funny colleges change, like Oregon has like eighteen different uniform combinations,
(28:43):
and every college really honestly, most Division one colleges have
that now have all kinds of different combinations. Heck, sometimes
they're not even their colors, like the Huskies were black
all the time last I heard, they were purple and
gold and yet. But but colleges can do it. The
NFL is really restrictive. If you were to pull people here,
most even the younger crowd, would say, go back to
the to the royal blue.
Speaker 9 (29:03):
I'm sure the same way with the Canocks, right.
Speaker 8 (29:05):
I'm sure there's a one of the eighteen uniforms they've
had people who want to go back. I personally, I'd
like the hockey stick. Just give me that stick, right,
I like that thing?
Speaker 1 (29:12):
All right, careful when you're saying that. All right, thanks, Ian,
I appreciate it. We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 8 (29:21):
Man, I was no, it's Canadian Thanksgiving next week, so
an early Canadian Happy Thanksgiving to you guys.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Whenever we have you on next We'll look forward to it.
Speaker 9 (29:29):
Yes, okay, I look forward to it.
Speaker 8 (29:30):
But I'm glad Ryan reminded me because with the Canadian background,
I need to may to make sure we have a
Thanksgiving dinner next Thanks.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Mark, you got two of them? Oh can?
Speaker 9 (29:41):
Yeah? All right? Take care.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
For an as KJR Sports Radio and the Cracking Hockey
Network Crack and Open Thursday at home against Stanaheim. We're
gonna just a little bit of reaction on our little
discussion in the first segment. Shockingly, people agreeing with Ryan
Ryan feeling that no, no matter what, no matter what
your life is like, do not accept a race pole question.
(30:05):
We'll introduce it to next Donnie Delay the team check

Adventure starts here. It's our Waddling Dog a pole question,
and we're going to introduce it right now. Conor mcgott
David signing two year contract extent no Race twelve five
per av experience. One of Victory's iconic destinations, the dog
sleep sip stock up on in one legendary spot. Come
(31:11):
sit and stay at the dog today.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Rick Ryan, get her up the waddling Dog pole question.
Will Connor McDavid won a Stanley cop in Edmonton and
look at this, six hundred and forty seven votes that
it's hopping. It's popping as seventy says, six percent say no,
twenty four percent say yes. Obviously there's a lot of
oilers haters in town. I think him taking lesson is
(31:36):
and the cop is going up.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
Donnie.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
I'm hearing it could be at one hundred and twenty
million in two or three years. If it's at one
hundred and twenty, they're gonna have a ton of money
to maybe some other teams.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Yes. Four other teams.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
But they're gonna have the best player in hockey at
twelve and a half and he should be at twenty.
For crying out loud, don They're gonna do fine with
the cop going up.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
You watch. Yeah, I wonder if people would say, you know,
if maybe we should have done this with the poll question.
Maybe I should have thought about it before the show started.
But would they be closer with this contract or would
he be closer to a Stanley Cup and Edmonton with
this contract or would he have been closer signing a
long term deal. I think most people would say that
this this deal will get him closer, even though it's
(32:17):
a relatively relatively short period of time. I'm so conflicted
when it comes to the Oilers winning the Stanley Cup
in the near future. You probably feel the same way. Yeah,
guys who are our age or at least my age,
you're you're young our age, but you know, you know,
and as a reporter, I couldn't I hated seeing the
(32:38):
Oilers when when all those Stanley comes back in the
day they got they got five of them. And remember
this was this was a time when in or in
and around the same time as the old Edmonton Eskimos
were rilling off, were multiple multiple Gray Cups, and Edmonton
was winning everything. I got tireds of seeing Edmonton win everything.
(32:59):
They went and called themselves the city of Champions, although
people will tell you that's not why it's called the
city of champions, and I call BS on that, But
I still want to see Conor McDavid. What is Stanley Cup?
And I guess I'm at a point where, okay, if
it has to be Edbmonton, I guess I'd be okay
with it. Obviously, I'd rather see Vancouver win a Stanley
(33:19):
Cup before Edmonton wins another one. But I don't want
to see Conomy because you can say what you want.
That guy works his ass off and he is a
wonderful talent to watch. I want to see him when's
Stanley Cup. It has to be Edmonton, that's fine.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
He's a generational player. There's no question what he did
today is set and the owners up nicely done.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
He took less, nothing credit, nothing but respect. Yeah. Absolutely, Okay,
let's take a tough turn here and this is sad
news and we're going to talk about the Canucks in
a bit here, of folks, we thought we were going
to focus our show on the Canucks today and that
hasn't been the case with the with the Conor McDavid news.
And then there's this news. We got the tweet from
(33:59):
Farhand by any Chane. Right there we go. This is
from our friend Farhand Lolgy tweeting out incredibly sad to
hear that legendary former UBC Thunderbirds head coach Frank Smith
has passed away peacefully yesterday at the age of ninety four.
Frank's VC teams appeared in four Van Ye Cups, winning
in nineteen eighty two and nineteen eighty six. He was
(34:22):
inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame back in
twenty seventeen. Thoughts, prayers and condolences to friends and family
of Frank Smith. And the first thing that I think
of when, first of all, he was such a joy
to deal with and somebody who when you talk to
them and just look at him, he was born to
(34:42):
be a football football coach. He coached my brother in
junior brothers in his eighties. Now, Frank was around for
a long time. He coached my brother in junior football
way back when. But my first thought automatically went to
hopefully Frank being with his son, Casey Smith, also a
former UBC head football coach who left us way way
(35:06):
too early back in the nineties.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
I remember those Van cups in the eighties, don I
really do? And you know he's a legendary coach. He
was absolutely a great treat to talk to.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
With the media member interviewing him when I first got
to Vancouver in ninety six and a very very sad
day today and one of the best football coaches ever
in the lower main line. When I think of those
teams in the eighties, I think the names like Glenn
Steele and Jordan Gagne and remember Lauren de Laurier I
believe played on those teams as well. Didn't Frank have
(35:38):
a stint on the Lions coaching sat a well brought up,
They brought him, they brought him on board and and
certainly he was a guest coach at training camps and
then I think eventually went to a full time role
with them after his career at UBC. But Frank Smith,
God bless you, leaves us at the age of ninety four,
one of BC's one of Canada's all time coaching greats
(36:01):
any sport, any sport. Okay, are you got to talk
to talk Cannucks here? Canucks trimming their roster to twenty
three players Sunday and the big story Rick, Well, there's
a lot there, a lot. But Braden Coots has really
dominated the storylines for the Canucks in preseason. Uh. He's
(36:22):
he sticks around. And whether it's for a nine game
if you want to call them a nine game period
where you can go back to the Western Hockey League
and the Seattle Thunderbirds, we'll see, or maybe he stays
for the entire NHL season. But when you watch him
play and you really focus on him, and this isn't
always the case in preseason. I know it's preseason. You're
not necessarily playing the best opposition. Although you know the
(36:46):
last time out against the others, they dressed a pretty
NHL type healthy roster. He hasn't looked at a place.
He hasn't looked at it. It's very solid, Donny.
Speaker 4 (36:53):
You know when coaches say you got to earn it, well,
guess what people Coots earned it. He earned it. He's mature.
You need to handle what he's going through at the
age of eighteen. The last Connuck to play at eighteen
was Peter and Needbud Donny ninety one or ninety two,
and just a couple of years.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
Before, well, it was the ninety ninety one season. He
was Trever drafted right here at BC placed in nineteen
ninety and Trevor the year before. So Trevor was eighty
eight eighty nine and he scored thirty goals. Yeah, as
an eighteen year old.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
I remember Bob McCammon absolutely thrilled with him. Adam Foote
said on Friday after the Owners game, he said Coots
made a couple of mistakes in the first period, they
talked to him. He never made the mistakes. Again, that's
a coachable kid getting better learning from his mistakes. You
can't beat that.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
I'll say what I said in the in the first
segment again. But just how enjoyable I think this camp
in preseason has been for Canuck fans, and I think
a lot of that has to do with just how
well their recent first round draft picks have looked. I
know Vlanders going down to Abbatsford, but it looked like
he took a step lecr Mackie has been outstanding. The
(38:00):
release alone.
Speaker 4 (38:01):
Two rockets, Yeah on Friday, Yeah, two rockets, and then
and then and as we talked about Coots, but then
the other you know, Max Sassin has been sent down.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
But I think a lot of people might have been
surprised by that. But he doesn't require waivers, so that
was a little a little bit of an easier move.
Rat tu uh Tolopilo looked good. Yeah, there was a
lot there from their young players, which has him in
the case in a long long time.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
Absolutely, and Mancini too, who got sent down. Don Yeah,
and I didn't like that part.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
I had a Canuck season ticket holder texted me last
night livid about that. Really really upset they should be
that they should be. That's a bad message. If we
have time, uh during the show today, which has gotten
a lot busier, giving the McDavid news and the and
the Frank S. Smith news busier than we thought, I
wouldn't mind running these clips of Adam Foot after a
(38:53):
couple of Canuck victories in which Mancini scored and it
was a yeah butt situation. He scored, but there were
some things he.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
Needs he needs to clean up, he needs to I
think they made their decision of mansenior here. It's a
bad message they sent to the kid because he outplayed
people that they kept. It's a bad message, you said, you're.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
Talking with Pierre Olivia, Joseph and maybe even Elias Peterson.
Joseph was not great in the preseason.
Speaker 4 (39:14):
He was actually horrible, and they kept him as the
seventh defenseman. And well, you tell a kid go to
the off season, workout, come in shape, and he killed
it in the preseason, and then they send him to
the abbey again easier with the I get that, I
get that, but it's a bad message to send to
a kid like.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
Mencin Yeah, and a right hand or I think they
keep seven defensemen, only two of them are righty's Ronick
and Myers. So a bit of a surprise there. But
he'll be back up. He'll be back up.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
But I got a feeling everyone bitched and whined in
this city about juleson the six seven guys, they're going
to do the same about Joseph.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
You watch, Okay, Well we'll look for that. Okay, there's
there's more. We haven't got time for these clips, so
we'll move on here. DTMZ is it just me In
the next hour, As I mentioned, Elliott is going to
join us just after eleven o'clock. Again, Elliott working hard
on the Connor McDavid story. Again, if you're just tuning
in two year contract extension for Connor McDavid, that's not
(40:15):
totally surprising. That was talked about before this deal was done.
But the AAV he's not going down, is not going up,
It's staying the same. Twelve and a half million. They're
doing cartwheels in Edmonton over the whole maybe not the term,
but certainly the whole city. Financial details six big Rye
Twitter guy, next, Donnie Dolly the team on check just
(40:42):
before we get to Big Ride, the Twitter guy who's
gotten a lot of support in our baseide Ocera front
Resort inbox. This is from Brayden and Abasford in the inbox.
I'm fine with man seeing going down. Joseph played like garbage,
but he can sit in the price box. I'll see.
I'd rather Man seen him go down to Abbotsford to
improve than said eating popcorn like Rick would say. And
(41:07):
Abbotsford's short and defenseman oh Breezebaw injured, WU injured.
Speaker 4 (41:12):
Right and Donnie the word was the jet Woo is
going to be available in October. Now I'm here in December.
Something something's going on there and breezewaws out till the
new year. Like these guys are banged. That's his top
number one shutdown pair in the playoffs last year, Wou
and Breezeblaw Donnie. That's pretty bad.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
What's going on? Big Ry? Yes?
Speaker 5 (41:32):
Time now for Big on the Twitter Gar. You guys
have been talking about the make David extension a lot.
Obviously in this first hour uh and uh uh former
Canucks goaltender remember the Longo has waited as he usually
would with a perfectly perfectly word to tweet. He just
retweeted Elliott and put no state tax strikes again. Yeah,
(41:52):
like I said, joke right, because it's all the talk about. Wow,
all these guys, all they ever do is go to
the state tax places.
Speaker 1 (41:58):
But hey, McDavid.
Speaker 5 (42:00):
Reupping in Canada, reupping and Edmonton at least for two
more years beyond this one.
Speaker 1 (42:04):
Well, and and you look at the situation too. I
don't think we talked about this realistically. Probably the best
thing for him to do if he wants to win
a Cup. Yeah, Like, I mean, that's the thing.
Speaker 5 (42:13):
I know the poll results are going to be skewed
to know, because nobody Vancouver wants to see you.
Speaker 1 (42:17):
If your Candocks fan, you don't see I get that.
Speaker 5 (42:19):
But from a hockey perspective, if you look at it
through that lens, like who is the biggest threat in the.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
Western Conference to the Vegas Vegas? Yeah, adding Martin, Dallas, Dallas.
But you know, I feel Aboutdallas. They got to prove something.
Speaker 5 (42:35):
They just just keep going to the same spot and
dying off.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
And so don't write off Colorado. That'side. Yeah, I'm good
hockey club. Yeah yeah, Vancouver, Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 5 (42:47):
You gotta be positive, Yeah, definitely gonna be positive. Uh,
They're They're right there, no doubt, no question. Okay, a
lot of people screaming in our day siders the front
resort inbox that we haven't talked about Rix beloved Blue
Jays yet.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
So I'm gonna do that a little bit here. Jays
go up.
Speaker 5 (43:02):
To nil on the Yankees after two convincing victories. I
think a lot of the media members in Toronto are
still crying tiers of happiness over the first two games
for the Blue Jays. The big story though, and that
actually is a local connection to the big story, and
that was yesterday Trey Yasavage, five innings, eleven k's.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
This guy noe earned runs. He was dominant.
Speaker 5 (43:26):
And there's the stat line there from Eric Cross of
the MLB. But I've got another tweet here that really
drives this whole crazy story home, and that is from
the Vancouver Canadians who tweeted out this guy literally pitched
at the NAT on May thirty first this year, like
a few months ago, was at NAT Mainley Stadium pitching
for the Vancouver Canadians. Yesterday dominant performance against the New
(43:49):
York Yankees. And part of the reason why they why
the Jays have gone up to nothing on the Yankees
was his performance yesterday.
Speaker 1 (43:57):
Really impress He went.
Speaker 4 (43:58):
Through four leagues, yeah, three games major League Baseball, twenty
two years old, and then throws that gem yesterday.
Speaker 1 (44:05):
Yeah. I can't remember what level it is, but he
got shelled and fairly recently at the minor league level,
at one of the in one of the minor leagues.
And now look at these numbers that you just just
had up on the screen moments ago. Historic I know,
and John Snyder had a great quote about I don't
know the exact quote, but about having to come out
(44:27):
in Toronto five and a thirty ings. This kid is
just lighting it. The plan was to yank him at
that point, and they did and are going in the playoffs. Yeah. See,
but this is where this is.
Speaker 5 (44:39):
This is where I disagree with the MLB is so
based in numbers and pitch counts and the third time
through all of those different metrics. And I can't remember
there was a former pitcher recently talked about this and said,
one thing that's lacking, though, is feel.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
Like that kid use that for a lot of things.
How does it.
Speaker 5 (45:02):
Feel Does it feel like he's in trouble? Does it
feel like it's getting the grounds ainalytic?
Speaker 4 (45:07):
I know they got burned in Minnesota two years ago
doing that crap.
Speaker 1 (45:11):
I know, you're right, you're right, you're right, you're right,
you're right.
Speaker 5 (45:15):
Happened to the Yankees. Yeah, it's happened to these guys.
And yet, and then speaking of the Yankees, Cam Schlitzler
on Friday last week, was it Friday? No Thursday last week?
The jam against the Red Sox to close it out,
and he went eight innings or whatever, and everyone's going,
oh my goodness, look at this eight innings, and it's like,
that's not just how it used to be.
Speaker 1 (45:35):
You should just.
Speaker 5 (45:36):
Go no horse or complete game completely exactly one hundred
and fifty pitchers or something.
Speaker 1 (45:43):
Your horse would end up with a complete game and
it was something really special. But nobody made his big
a deal about it because you saw it quite often.
Speaker 5 (45:50):
Right, and it worked out fine. Look, the Jay's one. Now,
the Yankees did come back slightly. Okay, they crept into it.
I mean it was never the five runs or whatever
they were down, but they still crept into it. If
by some miracle, if the Yankees had come back and
won that game, I mean John Schnighter.
Speaker 1 (46:07):
You know, everyone would have been going, what is going
on here? And that's that's what I mean.
Speaker 5 (46:12):
I just I just worry about these guys being so
concerned about pitch counts and all the metrics that.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
Sometimes you lose the feel and when they but they
changed rules to help fight against That's that sort of three.
It's really worked for MLB twenty three to eight. They've
outscored the two games, and you could, you know, despite
what you just said, I think you could argue that
there's there's seven runs were kind of the majority of
the red garbage.
Speaker 5 (46:36):
Garbage, I mean, like I said the Yankees weren't legitimately threatening,
but this is from.
Speaker 1 (46:42):
This means no no coverage of any other Canadian team
in any league, uh, for the next one two years.
If they ended winning the World Series. And I look
at the path by the way, I know, other than
the Dodgers, it looks like it's there for them. I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (46:57):
Well even I hate to say it about our beloved airners,
like so far they haven't exactly been gangbusters against Detroit,
and I wondry, Like I watched the Jay's in contrast,
and everyone wants that ALC has to happen.
Speaker 1 (47:09):
I worry what's gonna happen if that happens. I know,
I know, I just stop by the way, this this
will where's your shirt today? Yeah? I know that. Let
him whin the ale, let him win this. Then I'm
gonna wear the shirt the day. So it's an off day.
Speaker 5 (47:25):
If they were playing tonight, could you so if they
could have traveled, if they could have closed out the
Yankees tonight? What leads Sports Center tonight? McDavid's contract, Jay's Yankees.
Speaker 1 (47:35):
Well, David is from Ontario's still that their beloved maple
Leafs are starting up this week too.
Speaker 5 (47:42):
That's true. Matthews cuts his toenails. Then the McDavid contract.
He signed a fourth line winger, and it's number one story.
Speaker 1 (47:50):
This is gonna just so people know other than that's
what ball. I actually kind of like the Jays as
a team. And that's the other thing with them off
the subjects not playing. I know, I know that without Yeah,
but it's the coverage and we're in the business. Maybe
we're close to it. It is just ridiculous versus everybody else.
Speaker 5 (48:12):
Uh, just quickly this final tweet from Sarah Langs of
the MLB. By the way, in postseason history, teams taking
a two nothing lead in the best of five series
have gone in to win the series eighty of ninety times.
In the division series. With the current format, teams that
win both Game one and two at home have advanced
thirty one or thirty four times. However, most recent comeback
(48:33):
in both situations was the New York Yankees over the
Cleveland seventeen.
Speaker 4 (48:40):
For you, if even if they go back to Toronto,
you know what the Yankees record in Toronto this year.
Speaker 1 (48:44):
Is, it's not good. One. You're right one, and you're right.
Who cares about that? Oh my, just kill them, Donnie
over the weekend, Hey man, things happened.
Speaker 5 (48:54):
Aaron Boone after was not panicking at all. He said,
crazy things.
Speaker 1 (48:57):
What you gonna do? His players now would be that
be great?
Speaker 4 (49:01):
I would be just completely fran We're not sure as
you as I have not jumped that high. Oh my,
the Kirk, the all all these guys. Springer, I've not
jumped that high off the couch in a lot.
Speaker 1 (49:18):
Burrows scored in twenty eleven over that was double higher.
Speaker 4 (49:20):
But anyways, get on the Blue Jays bandwagon. Let's go
Canada steam.
Speaker 1 (49:25):
Don't worry, they've got a lot of this uh Seattle crap.
Get on the bad wagon.
Speaker 5 (49:30):
So we've just spent a lot of time ripping Toronto.
You and I up next a Leeve Friedman hockey in Canada.
He of course, all over the mc davids. Absolutely, we're
gonna talk with Freeze next. Donny the team I check.
Speaker 1 (49:44):
Hey everyone, it's Donnie and Dunney and we're looking to
partner with your company.
Speaker 4 (49:48):
We have several packages and price points to fit your
budget and spread the word about your company on the show,
in our podcast, and on social media.
Speaker 1 (49:56):
We'd love to get involved with your company called two five,
all eight eight oh twenty two eighty two or email
advertise at Checkmedia dot CA. All right, Monday, and all
today's guests, including Elliott Friedman. We've been informed we need
(50:19):
a minute or two. Then he'll be standing by. Sponsored
by Rick Boyssan Motors. Check out their thirty fourth anniversary
sale happening all month long at Pyson Motors. Check out
the details online at Payssan Motors bas An T Motors

six three one five Fraser Highway in Surrey, right where
(50:41):
the skytrain is gonna be. Oh yeah, beautiful right there, Yeah,
almost several places exactly, it's gonna be out that way. Okay,
the big news today and again we're gonna have Elliott
Freeman on the show in a matter of moments. At
least we hope to Conor McDavid. Two year contract extent,
no race, no decrease in pay, but no race. Same
(51:05):
money as he's making right now, twelve and a half
million dollars a year. So Connor is telling the Evanson oilers, look,
I'm sticking around for a while. I'm giving you a
fantastic deal. Do something with it.
Speaker 4 (51:18):
And if they don't win in the next few years,
he's gone. You know, Austin Matthews contract is up at
the same time as this guy. So is Zach Warinsky.
They all got the same agent. Think about it. You know,
it's not a coincidence. It's only two years. But if
they win the Cup, Donny, then maybe he signs for
another eight years. Who knows, but this is he could
have got Tobe.
Speaker 1 (51:36):
He signed short term with those two players as teammates.
Do the Oilers signed Babroski at he's going to be
UFA at the end of the season. That's a lot
of questions to be answered here. Remember when Paul Korea
and timu Selanne Colorado signed for one million dollars each
(51:57):
for one season. How'd that work out? It didn't work out,
but it was an example of two players not that
long ago. I guess it was long ago time flies,
but saying look, we want to, we want to, we
want to grab a cup here team less Lane he
did did win a Stanley Cuppy. Where did it again?
Lego Boston after Boston and Pitts. When you try to la,
(52:18):
when you try to force try to force winning a cup.
It doesn't work done. It's got to happen naturally. He
get you get a show. I worked out for Ray
Bork right, Oh yeah, that was the that was that
was a trade, all right. I believe. Elliott Frieman joins
us now from Hockey Night in Canada and the thirty
two Thoughts of podcast. Elliott, thanks for doing this, sir.
How are you?
Speaker 3 (52:37):
I'm good, guys.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
How are you doing? Lovely good? I can imagine how
busy you are today. Great work. A two year extension
for Connor McDavid. Twelve and a half per I think
most people are stunned, shocked your reaction.
Speaker 6 (52:51):
Yeah, I have to say I'm not. I'm not shocked
at the term. I'm not shocked that the AAV is
lower than we thought. But I was surprised at twelve
and a half. I did not see that one coming,
(53:12):
and I knew he'd take less. I didn't think it
was going to be, I mean, twelve and a half
per year, twenty five million. It's kind of funny to
say that's less, but I didn't see that one coming.
I knew it was going to be a team friendly deal.
I didn't realize it was going to be that team friendly.
Speaker 1 (53:29):
So can you put into words the kind of pressure
of the Eviton organization is now under it with Connor
McDavid giving them such a great deal.
Speaker 6 (53:39):
Yes, he I mean, look he put like, not only
did they do that, not only did he do this,
but he also waited this long. Don like, he definitely
put the organization on notice, like, don't take me for granted.
I want to win. He's doing all the right things.
He competes hard, he works hard. Everything he does is
(54:01):
all about winning. And now he's taken a salary that
allows them to have a be in better position at
cap space, like they could have over twenty million in
cap space next year. But what he's also done is say, hey,
it's not automatic, you know, I have to see this
go both ways. And even though this is a huge
victory for the orders getting him done at any term,
(54:23):
there's no question he's done it in a way that
makes them say, you know what, we can't afford to
get too comfortable here. We have to be in this
every year and looking like we're constantly in this for
years to come.
Speaker 4 (54:35):
Elliott, what would the NHLPA say about the best player
in the world taking less well you.
Speaker 6 (54:42):
Know what, like it's it's an interesting conversation, Rick, But
you know, the one thing you have to remember is
that this is a fifty to fifty league, So every
dollar that one player takes is a dollar that somebody
else can't get.
Speaker 3 (54:54):
And I think at the end of the day, every player.
Speaker 6 (54:56):
Has to say, look, no matter what I have to do,
what makes me happy And there's nothing that makes them
happier than winning. Now do I think that some teams
are going to go to their players, like could Vegas
go to Jack Eichel and say, look what Connor McDavid did.
And yeah, I think some teams are going to try
to put that pressure on their players. I have no
doubt about that. And it's up to a player and
(55:17):
their agent in that situation to say one of two
things yeah, yeah, okay, I get it, or that's his situation,
that's not my situation, and they're different.
Speaker 3 (55:25):
So that's what Yeah, that's that's all you can do.
Speaker 6 (55:28):
Is you can either say yeah, yeah, I get it,
or our situations are not the same and I shouldn't.
That deal has no argument or validation on mine, Elliot.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
The NHL regular season starts this week. What about the Canucks.
Speaker 4 (55:43):
What are you feeling coming out of camp about these guys,
What are some of the things they're trying to do.
What's your general feeling about Vancouver.
Speaker 3 (55:51):
Well, I thought it was really interesting.
Speaker 6 (55:52):
I saw today that John Shannon reported that Coots.
Speaker 3 (56:01):
Is going to be in the lineup tomorrow. So I think.
Speaker 6 (56:05):
That's I think that's very interesting. I think that like that,
that's an interesting move to me because I do think
you're trying and like teams, I think all we should
say whoever makes the lineup deserves to be in the lineup.
Speaker 3 (56:22):
These all should be merit based, but.
Speaker 6 (56:26):
We all always know that doesn't always occur, yes, And
so I think it's very interesting that the Canucks are
saying on merit, this guy deserves to be here, and
therefore we're going to put him in here. I think
to me that's the most fascinating short term thing they're doing. Look,
I can tell you a lot of other things Rick
(56:46):
that you already know and aren't and aren't new, and
that is the Canucks continue to look around and they're
happy to do something.
Speaker 3 (56:54):
But that thing is not there right now. So we'll
see where it goes over the next little while.
Speaker 1 (57:00):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (57:00):
Take a look at the Canadian teams for me, who
do you think is going to be a surprise? Who
do you think is going to go backwards to Canadian clubs?
Speaker 3 (57:14):
I know, I'll tell you this.
Speaker 6 (57:15):
There's a lot of disrespect towards Winnipeg.
Speaker 1 (57:18):
Yes, I see that.
Speaker 3 (57:20):
I'm well, I think you are the leading Winnipeg.
Speaker 1 (57:26):
Uh, there is.
Speaker 6 (57:27):
There is a lot of disrep like that shirt couldn't
fit in Winnipeg, especially in February.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
Come on, beautiful, it is a beautiful shirt.
Speaker 6 (57:36):
There's a lot of disrespect towards Winnipeg that I just
don't get.
Speaker 1 (57:40):
Really.
Speaker 6 (57:41):
I know they're injured, but I still think they're going
to be okay. You know, I think this. I think
Vancouver is going to be better. I think I think
Edmonton's going to be really good. I think Calgary is
going to be in a dog fight for a lot
of the playoffs to get there. I try not to
(58:02):
overreact to the preseason, but I wasn't crazy about what
I saw from Calgary during the preseason. I'm a little
bit surprised they didn't claim a backup goaltender today. You know,
Grittin made the team. I like that, but I wasn't
crazy about what I saw there. I think Winnipeg will
be fine. I think Ottawa and Montreal are going to
(58:24):
be fine. To me, the most fascinating team in Canada
is Toronto.
Speaker 3 (58:30):
I just think that I liked a lot of them.
Speaker 6 (58:32):
I think Wold being absent and I don't think at
this point in time we have any idea of his
return status. I think it kind of takes away something
that was one of their biggest strengths last year was goaltending.
Speaker 3 (58:46):
You know, Stolers and wool were a good combination.
Speaker 6 (58:49):
I still think Toronto's pretty deep, but I think without
wol being there until we know when he's going to return,
I think you're taking one of the strongest parts of
their roster away from them, as their goaltending combination.
Speaker 1 (59:03):
So many people in Vancouver are just so pleased to
hear you say that the most fascinating ntil team in
Canada is the Leafs. And there's a lot of lots that.
Speaker 3 (59:11):
It was too it was too loud, Like that's the best.
Speaker 6 (59:13):
That's the biggest victory I think for the Canocks so
far this year, donn is that there hasn't really been
a lot of news and noise about them.
Speaker 3 (59:21):
Well, it's just been really quiet.
Speaker 1 (59:23):
Yeah. Well, the thing that's been loud is that there's
been promise from their young players, which we haven't seen
u for a long time. Hey, speaking of Toronto, Elliott,
all seriousness, Now, what's the buzz like in that city
given what the Jays are up to?
Speaker 3 (59:36):
It's huge. I went yesterday. It was it was incredible.
Speaker 6 (59:42):
You know, Like people talk about pressure and things like that,
I think if you compete hard, Uh, these fans, they'll
love you forever. It's the same as Vancouver, I mean,
you know, and like people have always asked me, like,
if you were good enough to be a player, which
I know I'm not, would you be able play in
the Canadian city?
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
And I'd say absolutely. I think the risks are high,
but the rewards are high.
Speaker 6 (01:00:06):
You think of all the great Canucks players who like
and even some of the guys you wouldn't list as
some of the best Canucks players, but guys who play hard,
they're gods in that city. And you look at the
Blue Jays right now. The crowd was bonkers yesterday. That kid,
you savage. You know what was interesting was he walked
(01:00:26):
Judge and I think people were like, oh, I don't
know about this, and then when we struck out the
last two, like everybody in there believed in the first
inning and it was crazy. I really think playing in
Canada is the risks are high, sure, but the rewards
are enormous and it's like a poker pod. Guys, are
you betting one thousand dollars to win ten thousand dollars?
Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
Yeah, you probably are.
Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
Yeah, it's and so many players who played in Vancouver,
even if they're not British Columbians, come back and live
here after their careers are over. The same thing. Same
thing with the Toronto I know you're busy, Eliott. We
can't thank you enough for this. Appreciate it all righty guys,
my pleasure, all right, Elliot Elliott Freeman hawking in Canada
the thirty two Thoughts podcast. He went to the ball
(01:01:11):
game yesterday and again the news Conor McDavid extending at Evidson.
Remember he still got one year left in his old contract.
The extension two years twelve and no rais twelve and
a half per I think he deserved a raise.
Speaker 4 (01:01:26):
He did deserve a raise, and give him credit for
not getting a raise or taking a RaSE.
Speaker 1 (01:01:32):

(01:03:15):
up all on one, legendary spot, come, sit and stay
at the dog today. McDavid two year extension in Edmonton
twelve five are relatively paltry. Twelve five per no race,
No race.
Speaker 4 (01:03:27):
He could have got seventeen eighteen nineteen million, but he
took less to stay and play and win. If they
don't win in the next three years, he's out.
Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
Right. Pole question, get her up?
Speaker 4 (01:03:41):
Waddling dog pole question, Well, Connor McDavid won a Stanley
Cup at Edmonton. Uh seventy seven percent say no, twenty
three percent say yes, eight hundred and sixty three votes already.
Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
I wonder what the pole results would be if we
tackled the subject of what I talked about earlier. Do
you want to see Connor David when it's Stanleyton one
of the great Canadian players ever, right and one of
the great NHL players period ever? Again? I want to
see him when as Stanley Cup during his career at
(01:04:13):
least at least once. But do you want to see
him when it Edvonton where they've They've won a few
Stanley Cups last time I checked five in the eighties,
arch rival of the Canucks.
Speaker 4 (01:04:23):
Yeah, no, I understand what you're saying on that one.
But Donny, if they don't win here in the next
few years, he's out say goodbye.
Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
Okay. So we were talking about this in the break,
Ryan and I how this is a pretty darn good time. Yeah,
they sounds like Andy of Maybury. There darn good time
for Vancouver sports fans right now. The white Caps they
beat San Jose convincingly yesterday for one, they have and
win their last two matches, and they finish on top
(01:04:54):
of the MLS West West probably means, you know, a
couple of home playoff dates and the BC Lion is
the hottest team in the CFL. Four straight wins. They
win on the weekend, they beat cal got a little
scary at the end, but Nathan Rourke with the big
numbers and speaking of the end, Nathan with a couple
of picks that he served up in the end of
(01:05:16):
the end, they end up winning that game. They won
a fourth rate I believe, six of their last eight
in second place in the CFL West.
Speaker 4 (01:05:24):
And Donnie that six picks, No, so, six sacks and
three picks against Calgary And Donnie, here's another one for you.
Matthew Bets ten sacks in his last four games. He
was brought in, brought back after he went to Detroit
of the NFL to be an impact defensive line. And
their defense is turned it around. Why because they're getting
pressure for the first one, Well, they made some personnel,
(01:05:46):
they made some personal changes. But man, they're getting to
the quarterback Calgary. Nathan Rourke just dropped ninety points on
the Stampeders in the last two games. They don't want
to play him ever again, like he just absolutely destroys
that defense.
Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
So and back to the White Cap. Sim Mueller scoring again,
yes yesterday. So again, good on them, Good on the Lions.
We talked about the Canucks and what they've been up to.
I think the overwhelming feeling is one of optimism going
into the season, or at least you're more optimistic. I
think most people then you would have thought looking back
(01:06:22):
to the summer and a lot of negativity, but also
like Vankar, for Canadians, even with what trey Ya Savage
is is up to David Slatter, who play who played
it in that bailey. So a whole lot going on.
So Canucks open up their regular season Thursday. NHL season
begins tomorrow with three games, but the Canucks open up
on Thursday at home at Rogers Arena against the Calgary Flames.
(01:06:46):
And yesterday we found out news of roster decisions sticking
around the likes of Baines and DPD and Carlson, Ratu, Coots, Coats,
Lecer Maacki and Pierre Olivier, Joseph going down to Abbey,
among others, Vlander, Sassin and Mancini and Rick here the
lines yesterday at practice. I believe, yeah, I was out
(01:07:08):
of UVC yesterday.
Speaker 4 (01:07:10):
And Nebraska we that top line's been together since day
one a camp. So debrask Petterson investor. They had the
great game in Calgary, but look at this heatal with
Garland and Baines on the second line. Then comes Coots
and Kane and La Kara Maki Lakara Mackie with the
two great.
Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
Goals and they're it's impressive. They seem to have chemistry. Those
three the KG veteran, tough veteran with the two kids,
they seem to have chemistry.
Speaker 4 (01:07:35):
In the preseason, and your fourth line RATU was Sherewood
and O'Connor, and then you got Hughes and Oroonic on defense, Petterson, Myers, Petterson, Mancini.
Wilander was sent down to Abosferd, so was Mancini. But
Joseph is hurt right now, so and we should mention
Blueger is a little banged up sore as Forbert, but
I do believe they should be ready for the opener
(01:07:57):
Thursday against Calgary.
Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
Yeah, okay, we got time to hear from Braiden Kots, right, Okay,
let's do that. I mean, let's let's be honest here,
with all due respect to everybody else, the story of
the preseason. Okay, let's be honest here. We're not used
to anybody in this market, not used to the Canucks
seemingly nailing things when it comes to comes to draft picks. Oh,
(01:08:19):
but they get Braiden Coots fifteenth overall, and he's been wonderful.
It's pretty clear that whatever he was doing in the
summer to get ready for his first season as a pro.
It seems to have worked a couple of goals a
couple of sists into in the preseason. So here is
Braiden Coots who again and twenty three man roster to
(01:08:41):
start the season. He's on it as of right now.
But here is Braiden talking about his solid camp in preseason.
Speaker 10 (01:08:49):
Yeah, it's been solid. I think I could still be
even better. I think I got you know, I could
play even better than I have been. But I think
it's been pretty pretty solid.
Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
Clim made it so well to everything on every level.
Is there something that did catch you by surprise?
Speaker 10 (01:09:06):
I wouldn't say like surprise, you're you know you hear
about there's less time in space out there. I find
there's just less space on the ice. Guys are just bigger,
they close gaps quicker. It's obviously faster, but I'm a
decently fasciator, so I.
Speaker 9 (01:09:20):
Can adjust to that.
Speaker 10 (01:09:21):
It's more the decision making and kind of little plays
like that.
Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
There you Brandon cool So last year with the Seattle
Thunderbirds sixty games, sixty three points, twenty six goals, thirty
seven assists. There just seems to be a lot to
his game. He doesn't look out of place. Some people
in our inbox or base side of inbox saying that
he looks small out there. He looks skinny out there.
You know, I'm not making comparisons here. Eighteen years the well,
(01:09:50):
they didn't say that. Trevor Linden they looked short. But
Trevor Linnon they talked about him being slight back in
the day and he was scanned it up with thirty
goals in his versus.
Speaker 4 (01:09:58):
When Trevor showed up from medicine at he was ay
and Coots and Lakara Mackie's not big, don I don't
see l Kara makiw six sports.
Speaker 1 (01:10:05):
Kara Maki has a very special gift.
Speaker 4 (01:10:08):
And who set him up on the first goal? Coots,
you know, got positioning over to the Karamaki back of
the net.
Speaker 1 (01:10:13):
Yeah again, there seems to be chemistry between the two. Okay,
you've got some business, all right?
Speaker 4 (01:10:17):
Look at this absolutely check out our largest selection of

Canucks tried hard to get this guy. He's a centerman
(01:12:21):
at the twenty twenty four NHL trade deadline. I want
to Stanley Couple of the Penguins in twenty sixteen, Brian
Rust one of very few players in the NHL born
in Omaha, Nebraska. Are you guys serious? One more a
center center? We on this show. We talked about him forever.
Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
Jake Gonsel, that's it. Jake Gonsel was twenty twenty four.
At twenty twenty four, that was the year I get no.
Twenty twenty four. Yeah, yeah, it would have been. Yeah, Okay,
I did my research.
Speaker 4 (01:12:53):
And you're sitting there right anyways, Gensel, don't say it's
all good. Okay, here we go. Look at this is
this center. You guys are double checking on my info.
It's good to go this center. Want to Stanley Cup
with the Avalanche and with the centers. I love centers,
the connection. Need a second nighte center, this center. Want
to Stanley Cup with the Avalanche. In twenty twenty one,
(01:13:16):
twenty twelve to twenty sixteen that the NHL and a
number of penalties drawn with one hundred and sixty four.
He plays with an edge. In twenty sixteen, he blindsided
Daniel Cideen in Toronto.
Speaker 1 (01:13:27):
Oh, Cadri, Cadri. That's it. The clues. If I give
you proud of, if I give you my top clues,
you're gonna get it.
Speaker 4 (01:13:37):
At the first wag.
Speaker 1 (01:13:38):
Your clue as he plays with an edge. He plays
with an edge. I told you want a cup.
Speaker 4 (01:13:44):
All you have to do is think about the fourth Centerman,
the issue that waslue.
Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
That's an easy clue. Come on, man, Okay, you're right okay.
Speaker 4 (01:13:50):
Born in Gatin, o Quebec, first round pick of Phoenix
in nineteen ninety six. This center showed up in the playoffs.
It's just a birthday. Centers one hundred and sixteen points
in one hundred and twenty four career playoff games. His
best years in Philadelphia when when they won the when
they is.
Speaker 1 (01:14:11):
He with Philadelphia still?
Speaker 4 (01:14:12):
He's still with it, But he's not Daniel Berear. Yeah, yeah,
you got it. Yeah, Daniel Beer. Uh there you go.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:14:19):
This right winger the first overall pick on the twenty
twelve NHL draft.
Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
Neil yacka puff got it? Yeah? Oh my, yeah, that's good.
That was good. That was good. Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:14:30):
This quarterback led Clemson University do an undefeated season and
a national championship as a freshman.
Speaker 1 (01:14:37):
In twenty eighteen. Redhead Nope, Nathan Rourke was his teammate,
Yes for a short time ye the NFL. Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 4 (01:14:46):
Okay, well say, don't say redhead, redhead.
Speaker 1 (01:14:48):
Don't get red talking about red.
Speaker 4 (01:14:52):
No, he's got Lawrence, he's got surfer, he's like back.
Speaker 1 (01:14:57):
It's strawberry blonde. No show a p the Lord.
Speaker 4 (01:15:00):
She doesn't got red hair. He's not Ralph Mouth from
Happy Days.
Speaker 1 (01:15:03):
No, it's not that red. Yeah, I bit you. On
his driver's license it say he's got long hair. It's red.
Speaker 4 (01:15:11):
Oh my god, it's red. Derek was right on the
long hair. I was in the neighborhood.
Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
It's blonde, strawberry blonde. That's not red red red.
Speaker 4 (01:15:21):
By the way, Seahawks jaggs Next Weekend, Well he's playing
tonight too.
Speaker 1 (01:15:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:15:25):
Football, Okay, one last one. That's just one of my
favorite actresses in the eighties. This American actress played Jennifer Parker,
the girlfriend of Michael J.
Speaker 1 (01:15:34):
Fox's character Marty McFly in Back.
Speaker 5 (01:15:36):
Oh yeah, Elizabeth Shoe, Elizabeth Shoe, Derek Shoe.
Speaker 1 (01:15:41):
Yeah. Oh. She was so good in Babysitting, Cocktail, karate Kid,
got a little Ricky out across leaving Las Vegas. Oh,
leaving Las Vegas. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:15:52):
Yeah, there's a couple of scenes here. Anyways, just and
good actor in the eighties. Elizabeth Shoes, she's turning.
Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
Sixty one time flies. Yeah. She was in Curby Enthusiasm. Oh,
that's right, she was. She played George's love interest, her
ex wife Enthusiasm or Jason Alexander. No, she was. She
was in you remember they were making the that Jury,
(01:16:18):
but they were making the new Seinfeld episodes. Yeah, the
reunion she was in that, she's really good. Is she
have blonde hair or strawberry? Blonde? Strawberry? I think I
am so right on this. I'm not right on much
these days, but I'm I I know I'm right. How
can you say that's like I mean, I think that's blonde. No, okay,
that's not blonde. It is somewhat red. I don't see
(01:16:41):
red hair in that. But Derek, how do you get
blonde out of that rhyme? He looks partial jitter. Okay,
we're good.
Speaker 9 (01:16:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
Steve Miller, Oh, I love him. Ab oh maybe his
word song that song turn eighty two eight and he's
gonna play us out August seventy six. In the album
Fly Like an Eagle. This is Steve Miller band and
rocking me on check.
Speaker 4 (01:17:11):
Oh what you got the wrong song?
Speaker 1 (01:17:14):
You said, Fly like an Eagle. No, it's on the album.
I keep doing this. This is the second time you dine,
I know anyway, Steve Miller Fly Like an Eagle. On
a BC Monday Morning.
Speaker 4 (01:17:30):
Kids, the Vancouver Giants are celebrating their twenty fifth anniversary

Speaker 1 (01:18:22):
Okay, Rick, before you hit on the hell of jet
Jim Free? Is it just me? Okay? I like this
one right here, Claying Nanaimo. Is it just me?
Speaker 4 (01:18:31):
But I don't want to see any player in the
NHL win a Cup before the Canucks win. Win as
a Canuck light for iron, that right? I like that
one from Clay. You're all tied up in this. Who
cares if McDavid gets a cup? Don't you want? You
keep saying that the Canucks I want to win. The
Canucks want to win a Cup.
Speaker 1 (01:18:49):
I didn't say I didn't want to see the Canucks
win a Cup. I said, I want to see Connor
McDavid win one before his career is over. Wherever that is?
H Is it just me? But Ryan is one a whore?
Connor and you pair of clowns are wrong as usual.
That's that's on side we've got. We've got a lot
of that, and I don't want to go over my
(01:19:10):
side of things because Rick and I are so right
on this.
Speaker 10 (01:19:13):
Ryan.
Speaker 1 (01:19:14):
Absolutely. I just can't believe all these kids that are
agreeing with Ryan would turn down a race. Basically, that's
what it cops.
Speaker 4 (01:19:21):
So you get an offer from another TV station tomorrow,
you're gonna say no, right Ryan?
Speaker 1 (01:19:25):
Yeah? Exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:19:27):
Do you guys think McDavid just screwed the market with
that deal? What's going to happen with Eikeland, Connor, Kyle Connor,
Robin Victoria. That's that gets into the NHL p A
and what their thoughts are of the best player in
the world signing for less?
Speaker 1 (01:19:41):
Is it just me, Brian and asoyus or has Connor
McDavid paved his way out of Ebonton with absolutely no criticism.
If that's what he decides to do at the end
of his contract. That's a good submission from Brian, and
it's like, okay, you know what the ball is in
your court. You know, stand Bowman. Except and if at
(01:20:01):
the end of it he leaves, I think people would
understand if they haven't taken major steps to try to
improve the team. It's hard to say, isn't it. You
try to improve the team, and yet they have made
the Stanley Kaplano in the last two years. Again, I'll
say it. It's interesting Mabrowski's contract and I know he's
up there in age, but it's it's up at the
end of the season, Donny, the CAP's going on. That'd
(01:20:22):
be somebody CAP's going up and their oiler is gonna
have a ton of money like everyone else to play with.
Is it just me or well?
Speaker 4 (01:20:28):
Quinn Hughes be worth about sixteen to seventeen million when
his contracts up, and then he'll be gone.
Speaker 1 (01:20:33):
Wait for Courtney Todd unless ryan's his agent.
Speaker 4 (01:20:36):
Yeah, unless Ryan's gonna say, hey, Quinn, take twelve and
you know anyways, uh, Courtney Todd, Quinn Hughes contract will
be tired to kill mccarr's contract. They're both up at
the same time going to be amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:20:49):
You say that, and then look what happened with McDavid today, caprizovs.
You thought there would be a comparison there. I'm not
criticized for sure. Sure, Yeah, dj T, who's been very busy.
It's a good guy. I'm not so sure about that.
But the base side inbox, the Leaf's the most intrigued.
Is it just me? But the Leaf's the most intriguing team.
(01:21:10):
Elliott said that they're missing the playoffs, banket, they will
soon realize how important Mitch was, and they haven't done again,
all due respect, a lot to replace all those points,
well hundred plus points out of the lineup. What are
you going to do?
Speaker 4 (01:21:27):
Ryan needs to lay off on the anti Blue Jays rhetoric,
quit supporting the American Mariners and wearing American Burger chain shirts.
Lee key Burn from Victoria, Lee, you couldn't said it.
And he's got a California Golden Seals at Donnie and
I remember the California Golden Seals.
Speaker 1 (01:21:44):
I think it's an Oakland Seals? Is it Oakland?
Speaker 4 (01:21:46):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
Who's Who's hat? Is that? California? Yeah? California. By that
I have a little big problem with that. You can't
name one guy. I never had that logo as the
California Golden Seals. If I'm not mistaken, I'm taking take
it up with the hat people.
Speaker 4 (01:22:01):
I just like the hat and Donnie and I remember
the Canada City Scouts for crying.
Speaker 1 (01:22:05):
You know what.
Speaker 5 (01:22:06):
I just kinda I just want to address that submission,
by the way, and you got the name wrong.
Speaker 1 (01:22:09):
Thankfully you did.
Speaker 5 (01:22:10):
Don't say the name, don't don't say.
Speaker 11 (01:22:12):
He don't keep up hold of the hat people. I'll
get their numbers. Hey, Derek band name, But I have somebody.
I had so many Texas to me the other day.
You know, there's all this Canadian patriotism.
Speaker 1 (01:22:22):
It's great, great, should be. It's great. Canada's team. If
the Alcs happens, yeah, the way it is. Let's see
what happens then Mariners Jays.
Speaker 5 (01:22:32):
Yeah, let's see all these all these Jays people, right,
all these people ripping me from being a Mariners fan.
You gotta support Canada, Yes, okay, Let's see what t
Mobile's like. If he's a fifty to fifty split, it's
thirty percent Jays fans. A lot of brock parcision about
who's in the stands. It's about cheering for the Canadian.
Speaker 1 (01:22:50):
Team, right. But I'm just saying, oh, you're You're right
if the James and Mariners do me, And it looks
like it could very well be headed that way. There's
a lot ers winners are tired of one. I get,
I get all that. It will be interesting to see
what it's going to be. I think the large majority
of people in this town in BC will be pulling
(01:23:11):
for the Blue Jays, not Ryan and I. Yeah, well
that's okay.
Speaker 4 (01:23:15):
Apparently ninety two did nothing for you. Apparently Joe Carter
did nothing for you. And you know, Joe Carter, you
were sitting there right there watching and that did nothing
for you.
Speaker 1 (01:23:25):
A nice guy too. I went to training camp and
did he did ninety four the interview after they went
straight World Series. It's great. It was not it was
an assignment, but like I went, like you know, on
my own.
Speaker 4 (01:23:38):
I'll tell you, boy, I had more fun watching on
the couch this weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:23:42):
Oh it was fun. It was really. I thought you
got to talk about a hotel rooms.
Speaker 4 (01:23:49):
Like that was on the couch and watching the Jay's
jumping for joy, the inferiority complex. You guys have with
Toronto is ridiculous. Vancouver is in no city shadow get
a grip. That's from Kirk. Kirk doesn't like when we
ripped Toronto.
Speaker 1 (01:24:04):
I wonder if Kirk moved from Toronto to Vancouver. Yeah, uh,
is it just me Callen Langley? But could you imagine
he was in McDavid going to the same team with
their contracts run out at the same time. I got
a correct cal here because and hey, look that could
very well happen, so and could you could you imagine
that'd be absolutely tremendous. But McDavid still has one year
(01:24:27):
left on his current deal, and then the two years
came here, so it's really a three year deal. So
he hughes contract went a year earlier than McDavid's new one. Yeah,
we'll see what happens with Quinn Hughes. That's a million
dollar question. Is it just me?
Speaker 4 (01:24:40):
Or did Donnie and Rick watch far too much? Barretta
Starsky Hutch and Rockford files Donnie using terms like darn
good time, and Rick often seeing bingo. He's will grow
some sideburns and wear tweet jackets with elbow patches. Pamela
coming in, I wish Pamela Starskyan Hutch was great. Donnie,
Dukes of Hazzard was great. Oh I miss all that.
(01:25:01):
The Boss Sretta, Oh, Barretta was great. Rock for Files
every day at noon right before Hawaii Fi Bo.
Speaker 1 (01:25:07):
And Dune at noon, but didn't watch it in the
e was always in the evening rock. I think James Quincy.
Quincy was a jack Jack Plagman. James Garner was the
first world sexiest man according to People magazine.
Speaker 4 (01:25:22):
Yeah, oh, Pamela Jack Club, but not so much. Pamela
took us down back to the eighties. No, it says
Stashki and Hutch, Dukes of Hazzard, Boss Hog.
Speaker 1 (01:25:32):
I never watched Dukes of Hazzards. I don't know why.
What's it? What's your dais? Are you kidding me?
Speaker 4 (01:25:38):
Who didn't like Daisy? Boss Hog? And beautiful?
Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
Dukes of Hazzard was great, Dawn, it was good. It
was good. Quincy agree with you on of course Jack
Klugman and I think of Quincy. What do you think
of with Jack Klugman? Uh, that couple with Tony right
Tony round? Well, yeah, that's right. Ryan. You want to
chime in here. TV shows of the eighties Okay, go
it's just me quick to PJT again, Is it just me?
(01:26:04):
Mancini makes sense him going down to Abosford. If the
Canucks are gonna make a trade, would Vlander be in play?
He and Hoglander a lot of landers. There seemed to
be our only tradeable assets to get a center or
would the Canucks consider Heronic there's a trade pretty deep defense.
Well we've talked about that before. Yeah, but if you
trade Heronic for a centerman, then you got a massive
(01:26:26):
gap on the right side in the first pair. I mean,
he did pick your poison. Ryan and Dally are like
an old married couple. Taylor is the marriage counselor Darren
in Delta, Dwight, is it just me a Dryden esque performance?
But tray you savage? Yesterday Jay's bats woke up versus
the Yankees and gave them a twenty three run nightmare.
That's over the whole weekend, wearing my Jay's cap and
(01:26:48):
eating my armstrong cheese today and again, that's said Dwight,
proud Canadian when he talks about a Dryden esque performance.
Somebody who comes out of nowhere rookie to dominate in
a postseason, Whether it's baseball or hockey.
Speaker 4 (01:27:04):
They picked that kid over two veterans. They told two
veterans to sit. Then you're getting game two starts exactly, exactly,
don And he's got three major league starts. He's been
in four minor leagues.
Speaker 1 (01:27:15):
They don't know and boom he comes in and oh,
it's so fun to watch. Just take a break. We'll
wrap up the showing the poll question next. Donnie Delly
the team on Jack.
Speaker 4 (01:27:25):

Speaker 4 (01:28:17):
Get her up the waddling dog pull question. Well, Conor
McDavid won a Stanley Cup in Edmonton. Seventy seven percent
say no, twenty three percent say yes.
Speaker 1 (01:28:25):
Almost a thousand votes. It's a hopping and bopping on
a Monday morning and not stopping, not stopping, not stopping.
Where we going here? What are we doing? Well? You've
got some pictures? Oh yeah, Ryan, where are we going?
You like just blew through that pool? Yes?
Speaker 9 (01:28:40):
What do you want me to do?
Speaker 1 (01:28:41):
I gave the ball? You and your agent buddies are
upset with the little McDavid signed for.
Speaker 4 (01:28:48):
It's gonna have ramifications that contract, believe me.
Speaker 1 (01:28:52):
Photos.
Speaker 5 (01:28:52):
Okay, first one, let's go with Jay, the one in
the email today in the Poco.
Speaker 1 (01:28:56):
Yeah and yeah. Look at this.
Speaker 4 (01:28:58):
It's our draft day Sunday at the Cat and Fiddle
Pop Poco. I'm in the back row center sporting the
D and D ballcap. Look at this Jay and all
his buddies, and the hockey is a hockey pool. Yep,
that's it, D N T and T's annual hockey draft.
Look at these guys. What a great photo getting together
and doing this.
Speaker 1 (01:29:16):
That's a highlight pool. Actually, but look at this. We
got a great group of good looking guys. And Jay,
you've been to the Cat and Fiddle, No, I'm famous. No,
I haven't been to the Poco. My boy, one of
my boys goes there fairly regularly. Apparently the wings there outstanding, cheap,
not like Gweling Dog quite good, Jay, Jay and Poco.
(01:29:38):
Thanks for that great picture. Ryan. Where we're going now?
This is Kristen and Ladder.
Speaker 4 (01:29:43):
Oh, Christian and Ladner took his donny and all he
had to the Seahawks game yesterday and then he lost it.
He lost it, and then but he had a Seahawks had.
Speaker 1 (01:29:51):
I guess he bought it and he met this Christian
and Laddner and he met this comedian Bert Chryscher.
Speaker 4 (01:29:58):
Look at this. He's a guy that does stand up with.
Speaker 1 (01:30:01):
No shirt on. Yeah, and he's got the big guy. Yeah. Yeah,
that's the guy.
Speaker 9 (01:30:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:30:04):
Yeah. Isn't that amazing? Yeah? What a day? Christian lad
in Seattle yesterday as a sports fan. I was my
boys and I were watching that Mariners game. Is thinking
you know that a significant percentage of those people went
to both.
Speaker 5 (01:30:17):
By the way, just one more time quickly with the
photo the jersey, I mean, how like, look at that
Kenneth Walker.
Speaker 1 (01:30:24):
That's a new Jersey's got the fiftieth. Tapa Bay could
say the same thing.
Speaker 4 (01:30:27):
I mean, like their other homes are horrible, just bad
mix of colors everything.
Speaker 1 (01:30:32):
There's no shortage of teams whose retros look better. Yes,
Philadelphia Eagles way said the Canucks way better. By the way,
we talked about this in the break that uniform battle
an outstanding game, went back and forth, went down to
the last place. Sorry about that Seahawk fans and Kevin
Harland doing play by play. He was great. That was
just a great He is the best. That was just
(01:30:55):
a great, a great afternoon in the entertainment. What else?
Speaker 4 (01:30:58):
Last one picture? We're gonna go Trevor and Laddner look
at this. Went overseas for Nerdy Thanksgiving with our daughter
and stopped at the Waddling Dog on the way back
to the ferry for some swag. Trevor and Ladder looking
like a million bucks. Beautiful picture right at the Waddling Dog.
Speaker 1 (01:31:13):
Dodgers hat, Dodgers back and action tonight. Oh he's got
a Dodgers hat off. Oh no, blue Jays. That could
be interesting. What's going on, Trevor. What's Trevor gonna do
if it's the Dodgers and Jays in the World Series exactly?
Come on, Trevor, Blue Jays all the way. Okay, we're good. Yep, uh,
Mike from the PI or pl anyway, it's Mike. Is
(01:31:36):
it just me? But McDavid won't be getting twelve five taxes.
You need to his agent and manager fees, never mind
setting up children and grandchildren for a better life. Taking
that much less is huge pipe smoke. Okay, congrats to
Connor McDavid. We barely. We didn't talk much about the
Cannucks today. We'll do We'll do that to NHL. NHL
(01:31:59):
season starts tomorrow Canucks on Thursday against Calgary. Thanks so
much for tuning in, folks on behalf of Ryan Derek Rick,
everybody here at Oh Boy and Check. I'm don and
