overly curved super blade do Nothing Blue?

Speaker 2 (00:25):
With Don Taylor.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I say that the winner of the draft lottery should
be the winner of a two man loose.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
And Rick Dolly Wall I had a cherry tree, Little Ricky.
I used to go up that tree and just sit
there for hours and munch on those cherry.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Years Donnie and Dolly ten o'clock.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
In downtown Van Gerr for the Paul Carts Studio. Thanks

are you no?

Speaker 3 (00:57):
It couldn't be better?

Speaker 1 (00:59):
I could be.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Last night.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
I put up this tweet last night. Yeah, and I
thought it was kind of innocent and open ended. It wasn't,
was it. It wasn't even really a statement. But Archer
Sea LOFs twenty five save shutout his Penguin's debut at
Madison Square Garden. That that's pretty impressive. Of course the Canucks.

(01:23):
Canucks traded him in the off season. Okay, so I
put out this tweet the Cannucks made the right decision.
Here's the tweet for people listening to the podcast. The
Canucks made the right decision in trading Archer Sea Loofs
dot dot dot dot dot. Didn't they open ended trying
to start a conversation. Just I got attacked on social

(01:45):
for being.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Way too negative negative negative, negative, negative, And you know.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
I have to be on side with this with this group.
I I don't understand this new and I think it's
relatively new, this new faction of Canucks fans who feel
that if the media is negative towards the Canucks who

(02:11):
haven't had a whole lot of success so over the years, folks,
Just so you know that somehow that affects the on
ice product. It's really really strange. And are you telling
me I was. I don't know how you felt, but
I'm the only person who kind of went, well, that's
interesting how the Knucks feel about that? You know, that's

(02:31):
that's pretty impressive. And I know the Rangers aren't going
to win the Stanley Cup this year. They're not a powerhouse.
They're probably gonna have problems scoring goals. But I'm the
only person who thought that's that's the guy the Canucks
traded away. And I know they had to know I
was all for the trade at the time. You know,
otherwise they would have gotten nothing for him because he
wouldn't have cleared waivers. But I'm the only person who

(02:54):
thought that's that's kind of interesting that ex Cannuck who
pretty good resume, and he goes into Madisons Paray Garden
gets a shout out first time around with his new team.
It's prettympressive.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
He just led the team to the Calder Cup. Uh,
he led the team to the Calder Cup.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
They were stuck.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
They got lancoann in four point five mil. The moment
lancoln has signed Donnie, he's gone. She loves is gone.
And they feel that Tolipillo and Young will be the
guys down in Absbury and they'll they'll do fine. But
you did let a goaltender walk. The one good thing
the Canucks did. A lot of people don't know Edmonton
really wanted Sea Loves and Vancouver said no, they said,

(03:33):
we're not sending him to you in the division. There
was two or three teams in the East that wanted
Sea Loves and they sent him to the East, which
is a smart move by them.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Imagine if he made his debut with the Oilers.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
At said that's but the Oilers wanted him, and the
Canucks said.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
No, one might seeing that.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Actually, but there, listen, Donnie, let me get this in.
Don't let the nutbars on Twitter.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Letting them get to you.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
No, I I am now aren't eing to block the idiots.
I never blocked the idiots before, but now for mental
health and for your sanity. Twitter is an awful place.
It is just an If you were on Twitter for
twelve hours, you would think this world is awful. We
live in the worst country in the world. We live

(04:19):
in the worst province in the world. We live in
the worst city in the world. There are too many
nutbars on Twitter, and most of them are in connects Twitter.
And you got caught in with the You got caught
You're the worst. I've got the same ones that bother
me it and twenty years ago we didn't have to
put up with Twitter. It was a beautiful world for

(04:41):
the media. You know. I used to real I used
to sit next to Neil mccrane the mornings and we'd
read the Vancouver Province. We didn't have to worry about
these idiots on Twitter. But now we do. We have
public jobs. You threw out a tweet, so all the morons, uh,
you know.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Some of them had gone.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Yeah, some of them were good. But we know the
same ones we know on Canucks Twitter. It's the same
group of idiots.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Here's my problem, though, what you said there is right,
even though you don't practice what you preach. Yeah, okay,
you do, like like honestly, no. My problem is that
I get and I did this last night. I get
into these arguments with people on Twitter. Don't do it.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Don't do it.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
But here's my problem. It's kind of fun, but then
I fight it. If I come with the up with
a good line, I'm like, I'm excited. It's kind it's
kind of fun. But let's get back to arch Sealows
for a second. I'm trying to trying to figure out
what he is exactly, because MVP of the World Championships

(05:41):
for Latvia in twenty twenty three, they got the bronze.
They were playing at home. It was a big deal.
There was a huge celebration in Lafio. They celebrate everything
in Lafia. Twenty twenty four Canucks playoff front. This is
what people forget when it comes to Archer seelofs that
Dempko goes down Game one against Nashville, art Sea Loves
comes in and helps just that team, helps the Canucks

(06:03):
at the NHL level win that series and come within
one win of getting to the Western Conference Final. They
almost knocked off the Oilers who got to the Stanley
Cup Final. And then last year, you know, strangely in
a way, struggling at the NHL level right during the
regular season, and but but then he ends up, you know,

(06:26):
resurrecting himself in the AHL AHL Playoff MVP and a
Calder Cup title with Abbotsford. So there's a lot of
up and down there with him. I do understand the trade.
I seem to remember that both you and I totally
understood the trade when it was made, and we gave
it the thumbs up. And I also believe that the
two of us, if my memory serves me correctly, two

(06:49):
of us gave thumbs up to the linking and contract us.
He's playing very very well and they've got a you know,
number one goaltender whose health issues are a question market.
It made sense, But you can't tell me that a
lot of people last night didn't say boing Seelaw's got
a shut out to the was that was that a
smart thing? That didn't?

Speaker 3 (07:08):
And Donny look at this? Good on the kid walks
into Madison Square Gardens. Okay, Albeit, the Rangers looked horrible
last night their bottom six. Did you look at their
bottom six and say to me, oh, my goodness, top
six is the top six aging vets. Okay, So listen,
he goes in there last night. Give him credit. And
that's not a good Pittsburgh team.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
He's not.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
He's playing in front of a nineteen year old defenseman
last night out of the Western Hockey League who made
the roster. There's Ben Kendell, who's eighteen. You know, he's
one of your.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Centermen, and hey, knocking him.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
No, I'm saying that they had a young team. It's
not a great team in Pittsburgh. Playing in front of
him and he pitches a shutout.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Good for him, Rangers. Give credit the Rangers that his
uniforms did look good.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Oh did they ever? Oh they popped watching that game
last night, they popped.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
They popped. By the way, J T. Miller is zero points.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
He's saying, you're just stop and you know what, speaking
of he just finished. He's got a training case coming
off a training Kevin.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
He said that after the game he wasn't happy. He
said it was what he expected. Give him what he
went through in the preseason. He was in at practice
zero point zero shots minus to eighteen minutes, eighteen seconds.
I'm just throwing out a fact here. Yeah, you know,
but he's okay, let's hear from Let's hear from our
We got this clip here from archer Sea Lofts. Yeah,

(08:25):
Archer's Sea Lefts. Post game after the twenty five save,
shut up.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
I felt great. It felt great to be on a
new team. You know, I think we have pretty good
chemistry with the guys already, and I felt felt like
it's so nice to play, and you know, it's even
better to win in the road.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
And yeah, being the first game of the season, your
first game, how long did it take for you to
get comfortable tonight?

Speaker 4 (08:51):
I mean that's why we have preseason games. You know,
it's like you get already like like your adjustments are
timing and the field of the game. And today I
felt already like so much better than like, what's it
compared to their first game?

Speaker 1 (09:05):
All the best, let's sum up all the best of
the kid to Archer's and he also said later on
at that interview, way better for him to make his
debut on the road, even if it was fabled MSG
versus at home a test.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
And another thing, he's twenty four, he's a young kid,
lancoln And said thirty. I think twenty nine to thirty.
Lincoln's best year was last year. Goalies take a time
to take some time. Not all of them are studs
coming out of junior hockey.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
So can't And you know, maybe I was just trying to,
you know, be a little cheeky with the tweet, But
you can't win.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
I could tweet the nicest, most positive conduct tweet, You're
still gonna have two percent. Two percent of all Twitter
is horrible. You cannot win with anything A year week.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
You're preaching again here, Yeah, I stop it. You wanted
to talk about the seats.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Ryan, Yeah, bring it on.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
No, you did. There's a there's a section behind one
one of the goals where then sure zam Boni comes out.
So that's not finished yet. So so still they still
have the burgundy seats.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Yeah, so this picture is a bad look.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
This picture is courtesy a good Jeff Patterson from practice
yesterday yesterday yesterday. Also our friends Rob Williams, he wrote
an article on Daily Hive confirming a report from Patrick
Johnson actually who has heard from season ticket orders that
told him that these seats, which are the pullout sections,
so when there's a stage built that Roger Arena, these

(10:29):
come out when these seats now won't be done until
the Olympic breaks sometimes so sometime in February. So despite
the social media campaign and all the promises made by
the organization about finally finishing these seats, nope, they still
will not be done until.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
A bad look. This is an American Hockey League, East
Coast Hockey League done, it looks not. This is the
National Hockey League. This is a bad look by the ownership.
It's like it's like you've painted your house. Yeah, I
mean corner, you left the.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
Corner, you left the corner. Eventually it gets done, but
it looks like crap. Time.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
I looked.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
I didn't mean to say the Canducks made a mistake,
but I just wanted to open up a discussion regarding
letting Arthur Silos go. That's a way bigger deal than this.
I'm sorry, Well, I mean, I haven't tweeted.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
You cannot defend this, don This is the nash I
will defend it. This is a bad, bad look.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
How do you defend it? I defend it by and
you know this, you you know what. You're in your
tenth house right now. Just this is a bad look
on construction projects often then started started three weeks earlier.
They never on time, they didn't make the playoffs, said
it had six months, they didn't make the play is

(11:47):
that they have to wait till the Olympic break because
they have other events going on there.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
But that that point dies, that point you've got your.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Way rather than the one section.

Speaker 5 (11:58):
Because yeah, but Donny, it's speaks and this is what
a lot of the replies to Rob's article are about.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
It speaks to.

Speaker 5 (12:03):
The organization because look at they again they pounded their
chest and said, we hear you, Kanuck fans, We're finally
do something they haven't done.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
You can't follow through with I can't wait until and
Lord knows this is gonna happen, because you're getting very
well compensated by check. When you build your your your
house wherever, wherever it is, it's not gonna go perfectly.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
Sure, but that's that's a house. Those bill didn't make
the playoffs. He's had six months to do this, and
on top of the time, you know, there wasn't a
Stanley Cup playoff run. The point I'll add to Rix
these seats for the most part, you know they've been
for six months out of the arena because you know
it's been in there concerts.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Sure, so making money off any chance that maybe they've
got the seats ready to go. And there was some
problem with with the fits.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
There's always been a problem. It's twenty twenty three. He
replaced them behind the player's bench because all those rich
bodies are gonna sit there.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
It's project and they always get delayed bad. It's not
it's not it's not the organization.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
He only did this because the pressure from the community exactly.
And then the practice facility.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
There's still nothing on the and they I'm sorry, Rick,
I'm looking at this picture and you guys are concerned
about the seats. They're practicing the power play there. I
want to see Lecermi on that spot. That's the that's
the bigger issue here.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
And you've heard through the grapevine these people that are
getting shafted here, these season ticket holders because they're lower
bowl seats. By the way, too, they're not expending the Jackson,
so these are expensive.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Getting a kick back. They're getting fifty dollars or something.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
I don't know what they do.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
Well, they better be get some substantial because this is
a joke.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
The whole game is gonna be done by there. But
on the on the list of k stop it's way.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
He speaks to you to coach leave town because there's
no practice facility. That's not embarrassing. They still haven't come
out and said practice facility. We're close. They keep saying
we're close, we're close, we're close, We're close. Back up,
get it done, announce it because it's embarrassing.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Talk it left because there's one hundred seats behind all
that practice.

Speaker 5 (14:24):
But to Rick's point, guess what it comes down to,
check's not being fulfilled. And the check hasn't been fulfilled.
He's trying to get a sweet art deal now for
the practice. He hasn't had it yet. Same thing with this,
he probably hasn't paid over to practice. These guys aren't
getting it done. I agree with both of you on
the practice facility. That's embarrassing.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
I agree with that this is embarrassing.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
It looks like crap. Look, you got a good look.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
But anybody who's been you know you're building a house.
I don't care if you stop making guy, whatever the
case may be, there's gonna be a problem.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
This is a billion dollar organization, not a house.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
Being built for undergrand Again, maybe you don't Even if
I was to agree with you, this would be so
far down the list of Kannock issues. How about their
center ized position, how about what's happening on the power
Sure sure aren't you see?

Speaker 3 (15:13):
How about the coach last two playoff appearances in fourteen years?
And I'm not yeah, I'm not counting the bubble because
that bubble was ridiculous. But anyways, two playoffs in fourteen years,
that's the big issue right there.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Yeah, it's hard being right all the time.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
This is a ridiculous. Just look at the replies to
your tweet last Oh yeah, exactly do you think about? That?

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Is it was like, no disrespect. It was a lukewarm taking.
It really was. It was a hot take.

Speaker 5 (15:40):
And then you were texting in the group chat going
I'm getting ripped and I had only kind of have
seen your tweet, and I'm like, what's so you didn't say, like,
if you had tights out last night, what a mistake
by the Canucks one game?

Speaker 1 (15:52):
I'd go okay, But that's how a lot of people
read it.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Yeah, but right, man, talk about it's just you can't
say anything negative about the Canucks. The fact they've had
two playoff appearances in fourteen years unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Here's what's coming up on the show, DTMZ. And by
the way, do we even say this. The Canucks open
up tomorrow night, Thursday against Calgary. They practiced yesterday, yes,
and they practice again today, DTMZ. Is it just me
coming up in the eleven o'clock hour, John Shannon.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
This guy just made the point. Look what Utah did
in their off season. Yes, it blew out the entire
building and built two eggs. They've had six months. Come on, Donny,
they didn't make the playoffs. Six months to get this done.
But no, we're gonna twiddle our thumbs all off season.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
All right, maybe whoever was the contractor there was did
a better job, was in charge of the season.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Johnny Utah, But I'm always always how to save money?
How can we crind squinners? You know?

Speaker 1 (16:52):
Yeah, Johnny Utah could be a band name. By the way,
dere marking down. John Shannon will join us just after
a love o'clock get his thoughts on, among other things,
John Tortorella is back in the TV business. John Shannon
is mister television. We'll get his thoughts on that, because
I thought I thought towards last time he was needed

(17:12):
TSN work. I believe some work for ESPN, Yes he did,
or NBC back in the day, and I thought he
kind of held back, hail back his personality and you know,
you're still looking to get back and there I.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Think he's done coaching, so he might loose this time.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Yeah, big Rye the Twitter guy coming up later on.
I'm just laughing. I'm laughing because the there's a massive
irony in this studio right now.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
But we'll just leave that.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
We'll talk about that a little bit later and up next,
the head coach of Canada's national men's socks. You know
what's happening in eight months, Rick Oh, the World Cup
of Soccer. World Cup's going to be in Canada. It's
going to be in Vancouver. Jesse Marsh's gonna join us.
Thanks so much for tuning in, Folks. Donnie and Dolly
the team.

of our guests, including Jesse Mars of Canada's national men's

(18:51):
soccer team, brought to you by our friends at Pastime
Sports and Games. A lot of reaction to our first
segment of the Bayside Ocean Front Resort. Inbox will get
to that most of it well, it's actually quite split.
In the two conversations we had the archer Sea loves
tweet slash shout out in the seats controversy, which we've

(19:15):
talked about a long time. Right now, we're going to
focus on soccer. Jesse Marsh is going to join his
head coach Canada's national man's soccer team. They play Australia.
This is a friendly October tenth in Montreal versus Columbia
in New Jersey October fourteenth, Canada. Of course, co host
Rick I never thought i'd see this of the twenty
twenty sixth World Cup June eleventh, July nineteenth, just around

(19:39):
the corner, Jesse Marsh joins us. Now, probably I should
say we recorded this interview yesterday and we started the
conversation off by asking Jesse about to the fact that
the World Cup in Canada, the USA and Mexico is
just eight months away. And we asked Jesse off the
hop as the kids say, if he could describe his

(20:01):
excitement level.

Speaker 8 (20:03):
Yeah, even when you say eight months, it seems like
there's no time here left until the World Cup is
upon us. But yeah, I think as a team we've
kind of been having our eye on this for two
years since I've been in charge, and you know, I
think we've been on a good journey and we've accomplished
a lot in the last fourteen to fifteen sixteen months.

(20:24):
But you know, I think once it gets here that
it's going to be such a big event that I
don't think any of us will really be ready for it.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
You talk about accomplishing a lot September, back to back
wins in Europe on precedented one nothing over Wales three
to Nilo over Romania. What do those results do for
your program? Jesse?

Speaker 8 (20:43):
Yeah, I mean, look, in the last thirteen months, we've
played fifteen matches and we have one loss. So this
team is confident, has gathered a lot of experiences, is young,
but very dynamic and exciting to watch, and more than anything,
I think they believe they can eat anyone right now.
So we're going to be challenged by that and some
of our next opponents, specifically now coming up, we have

(21:06):
an in this window Australia and Columbia and two games
that we're really excited about.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
Jesse, what style do you employ, what style do you use,
and what what style do you want your players to play?

Speaker 9 (21:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (21:20):
I mean, if you got you know, if you think
of high press basketball, that's a version of what we
play on the football pitch. So we like to press opponents.
We like to be very good at counter pressing. We
like to play vertically and be very good in transition,
and we have dynamic athletes. Like I advertise us as
one of the fastest teams in the world.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
And I want us to always play like that.

Speaker 8 (21:43):
I want us to look like we're one of the
fastest teams in the world. And so it's been a
pleasure coaching these guys. They're all very humble, very committed,
very selfless athletes, and they love playing for the national
team and they know how important this home World Cup
is for the for the sport, the country and for
all the fans.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
Hey, Jesse the last World Cup twenty twenty two, so
many big victories along the way, competed well there. What's
your What feedback do you get from other countries about
Canada and where they are as a soccer country Now.

Speaker 8 (22:15):
I still think we're garnering respect and earning respect around
the world. But you know, we've been climbing the FIFA charts,
We've been collecting victories and really good performances against against
really good teams. You mentioned Romanian Whales. I think both
of those teams we earned a lot of respect by

(22:36):
by how we not just that we won those games
on European soil, but by how we played.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
So, you know, I don't.

Speaker 8 (22:44):
Think we're going to be a team that anyone in
the World Cup is going to want to play. And
more importantly, I think our players believe that they can
have a really good World Cup and that they can
knock off some big, big opponents.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
Can you give us an update on Alfonso Davies the need.

Speaker 8 (23:01):
Yeah, So he's back doing some individual training on the pitch.
He's close to joining the Bayern Munich team. He's moving
along right on schedule, and I think everybody at Bayern
Munich and the communication we've had between the club and
the country here in Canada, that everyone feels like he's
on the right path.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
Jesse, I don't know if you know this, but the
Vancouver white Caps are some great soccer this year. They've
been doing really, really well. One of their players, Ali
almad talk about him the season he's had and are
you monitoring him pretty good?

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (23:36):
I think.

Speaker 8 (23:37):
Look, it's been fun watching Vancouver this year. I think
Guestper's done a really good job with him and certainly
winning the Canadian Championship going to the final in Conker
CAF Champions League are two big accomplishments. They're they're hunting
the trophy and MLS. And I think you know, Ali's

(23:59):
confidence and has started and developed a lot by the
kinds of performances he's put together for the national team.
I've challenged him and we've challenged him to be dynamic,
to be to sprint more, to be more aggressive, also
to physically maximize himself by getting in the gym, by
being fitter, and in all those ways, I think it's

(24:20):
helped him gather confidence and then being great form for
both club and country. So I'm really happy for him
and really happy with him, and he's become a really
important player for our team.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
Away from soccer for a second, Jesse, if you don't mind,
you're from Racine, Wisconsin. He had some very strong things
to say about the whole fifty first state controversy. What
did you know about Canada before you take this before
you took this job, what do you know now?

Speaker 8 (24:48):
Well, I was the Montreal Impact coach that's now called
the CF Montreal back in twenty twelve. And you know,
I have a good relationship with a lot of Canadian
friends and people I know from up north here, and
so I've always had a real strong appreciation for the
type of people here, the mentality of the kindness and

(25:09):
generosity that I think Canadian people embody. And you know,
I in the moment that I made those comments, I
wanted to make sure that that as an American I
stood up for what I believed in, and not just
because I'm I'm a coach of the Canadian national team,
but but because of the experiences I've had here and
the friendships I have with the people in this country.

(25:31):
So I was proud to make those comments. You know,
I didn't want to become a political figure. Maybe more
I became one, more than I had hoped. But you know,
I always feel some people say, ohways, stay in your
lane and you're you're a soccer coach. But like when
we have these platforms and we have things that we're
passionate about, I think it's our duty to say things

(25:54):
that we believe in, even if it means that a
lot of people aren't going to agree with what we
have to say. So I disagree with you when you
say shut up and be a soccer coach. I'm here
to be a person in this world and if I
think I have something meaningful to say, then I'm going
to say it.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
And one more, if you don't mind. Jesse, my family
and I were in Salzburg, Austria in July. You coached
Red Bull Salzburg for a couple of years. Why the
heck would you leave that place? Heaven on earth?

Speaker 8 (26:22):
Then Guda Fra is what we'd say in Austria. Good question. Yeah,
I mean, it's a beautiful part of the world. I
really enjoyed it, and I heard so much about it
before I went there. But I can tell you that
summertime is amazing because you can be in the mountains
and whether you're high biking, running, whatever, it's a beautiful city,

(26:43):
one of the most beautiful in the world. And then
winter is when when the country and certainly the region
really comes alive. So skiing and being out in nature
at that time was amazing. And by the way, by
the way, yes, pretty outstanding football team at that time
and with players like Earling Hanland and Dominic Sholbach, Lie
Hea Chan Wang and Pots and Daka Kareemada Yemi Benji Sheeshko,

(27:07):
like I could go down the list of incredible talents
that we had in the club at that time. So yeah,
great success, great fun, great country, great region.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
Amazing. They were still talking about you when we were
there in July, Jesse as a matter of fact. Yeah, awesome.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
I love it all the best, all the best, and
I will see you in eight months.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
Awesome, guys, thanks a lot for having me on. That
was recorded yesterday. Jesse March head coach Canada's national men's
soccer team again, playing Australia October tenth in a couple
of days that's in Montreal and against Colombia in New
Jersey October fourteenth, a couple of friendlies. Is their twenty

(27:47):
sixth rank in the world, by the way, after after
the back to back increase in Europe for the first time.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
I love him, I love his energy, I love what
he's done with Canadian soccer and I'm confident the Canadian
team will do well.

Speaker 1 (28:01):

(29:07):
Wattling Dog A poll question, Rick, if you don't mind
experience one of Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep, sip, stock up
all in one legendary spot, Come sit and stay at
the Dog today, Rick, Ryan.

Speaker 3 (29:19):
Get her up the Wattling Dog. Poll question of the day.
What's your reaction to archer Selov's twenty five say shout
out last night for the Penguins in Madison Square, Cannucks
made a mistake or they don't carries in Pittsburgh, And
look what's leading by large margin eighty two percent don't
carries in Pittsburgh, although eighteen percent say that the Canucks
did make a mistake. Four hundred and sixty one votes already.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
Okay, I'm trying to find this one submission which was
basically agreed with what I had to say, ah last
night and this morning, but basically it made the point
that giving Canuck's luck, he will win the VESA oh

(30:02):
this year. I'll try to find that. Find that submission
that's a person creditcern. Okay, Canucks ten thirty practice at
Roger's Rena, just like yesterday, and our friend Brandon Basheler,
just like yesterday, has tweeted out the lines.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
Ryan got them up again the lines. Look at this
this morning and Donnie had no surprise with the top line.
They've been together since day won a training camp Debraska
Patterson Besser. But look at this. This is a clear
indication to me that tomorrow night in the regular season
opener against the Flames, You're gonna see Baines with Heatl
and Garland as the second line. It's gonna be Cane,

(30:40):
Coots and the Karamaki. And then that fourth line it's
got some beef, speed, hits, grit rat too. Surewin the corner,
but boy, they are giving Baines a really hard look
in the top six up high, Donnie up high, and in.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
Part because of what seemed to be some chemistry between Kane,
kots Alecuermackie in the in the preseason.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
Yes, but Caine also in the first exhibition game he
played was with Heatl and Garland. He only played two,
which I but I don't understand that. But whatever.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
Yeah, I think if you're gonna play these kids kots
and Electromackie, that you need somebody like Kane. That's probably
what they're thinking.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
But then again, it illustrates the need for top six players.
And look, if there's an injury up the middle of
the ice, the Canucks are screwed, Donny. I mean, they
got an eighteen year old one spot, they got an
American Hockey League guy in a second spot. They got
Blueger injured. Blueger's out with a knee injury, possibly another week.
He'll go on the road trip and they'll figure it
out from there. But man, they can't afford any more

(31:46):
injuries as centerman, Donny, it's it's slim Pickens.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
After this, Yeah, of all the positions. And then on defense,
Ricky wanted to report that Linas Carlson is now a defenseman.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
Well, he's the extra pie and man senior, the extras
right now because uh, the injuries to bluegir and Joseph Hughes.
He heroonic. Then you got Marcus Patterson with Myers for
bert and Eli's Petterson there.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
And where do you go with EP twenty five? I
don't understand that guy.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
I've gotta look, I don't want to get confused Marcus Patterson.
Why can't I say Elias Petterson in the third pair,
Marcus Patterson in the secondary. I'll tell you what I'm
not gonna say. I'll tell you why for.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
Me anyway, this is my opinion is that I'm not
buying this Eleas Peterson Elias Peterson situation. Really the way
you're like, I'm not Swedish, Okay, I'm not really sure,
but is that is that really what Shorty goes with it.
The Elias Petterson.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
Yeah, but E p. Twenty five is very easy. This
isn't R two D two in Star Wars Don.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Although you'd like to see him on defense.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
You remember R two D two of course? Oh great guy,
great guy. Anyways, Petterson was.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
He was great. You know how I feel like I
you know this is blasphemous, right, but the robot participation
in sports, I'm all for it. The robot umpires like,
come on an argument with a manager? That would be
something it certainly would. Okay, so you talked to Able
Blueger you got sorry, I zoned out for a second.

(33:22):
Po Joseph, did you talk about he's out with an
injury as well?

Speaker 3 (33:25):
But I think he's skating. Okay. I don't think he's
far away, but we'll wait and see.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
Okay, Okay, I wanted to bring this up. I think
we have time for this. You guys had some problems
with what Patrick Alvin had to say yesterday because he
was asked if this was a playoff team. Yeah, and
we're gonna you we got this. Derek Patrick Levine asked
if the Canucks were a playoff team, and he didn't

(33:52):
exactly answer it. Answered but he answered it to some
extent here he is from yesterday. I believe in the
team we have here.

Speaker 10 (34:00):
We all know that the parody of the league and
they condense scheduled and health about Uh be very very
excited about the group we have here, and more so
how they come together and how they bought into the
coaches and how we want to play and and they
seem to have enjoyed coming to the rink and there

(34:21):
has been a lot of laughs and coming together as
a team has been important for for Adam, and I
give the players a lot of credit.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
You both had a problem.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
Just come out and say, is this the president said
two years ago? What did the president say? Everything's got
to go right for the Conducks to take the playoffs.
He's saying health, the league parody, which is a factor
on and the Canucks better. You know, Chicago, Anaheim, San Jose,
what are they doing right now? They are crappy teams,

(34:53):
but what are they doing a lot.

Speaker 1 (34:54):
Of people think Anaheim, you are gonna make You're going
to make the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
Those teams are not staying at the bottom forever. They
have got first round picks, second round picks, third round picks,
high picks coming in waves.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
Those teams at the.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
Bottom of the West are not going to live there forever.
They are going to make the move up at some point.
And the Canucks are in the mushy middle middle, mushy
middle right now. You don't want to be in the
mushy middle. Done, Yeah, because you're you know you you
want those high picks or either you're going for the
Stanley Cup. They're in the mushy middle.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
Ring them again.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
You want you want to go for high picks or
you want to go for the Cup.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
I think you're a rebuild guy.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
No, I didn't say, how do you get the high picks? Well,
you got to go to the bottom, like San Joseanahi.
That's a rebuild, Okay. That that they're not doing that,
they're trying to I realize that. Yeah, they're trying to
win Quinn. They're trying to win for Quinn. There's your
slog Hey, you know what, they're trying to win slogan
the days. All in all, we're Canucks, Uh win for Quinn.

(35:50):
Parody in the league. What's the slogan for the Canucks
this year?

Speaker 1 (35:54):
Seats almost done?

Speaker 3 (35:55):
That's practice almost done.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
I think it is what happened already.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
I think it is all in which you bring this
up all the time.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
When it comes in, we are all in. Yeah, I guess,
But you bring this up all the time. It comes
to logos, some slogans, you mean slogans, no, but logos though,
And it applies for Quinn. Some marketing firm got paid
a lot of money seven and they had a boardroom
full of people, Yes, and they were doing meetings on meetings.
What should we go with for our slogan this year?

(36:24):
Let's make it?

Speaker 3 (36:25):
And they came up with all in all and they
probably got paid, you know, a good amount of money.
A lot of people get paid to come up with
all in. I mean, we gotta come up with that
in thirteen seconds. I could still all in. You just
came up for Quinn. Win for Quinn. It should be
win for Quinn, win for Quinn. To keep Quinn.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
Just putting all sorts of heat on your captain, keep Quinn.
Because if indeed the Canucks, a lot of people are
forecasting them. And I'm surprised that a lot of people
who know a lot more about hockey than.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
Us out there are they're national guys.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
They think the Canucks are going to make the playoffs,
So who drops? LA did not look good last night
in more ways than one. I didn't like those silver helmets.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
Horrible, horrible helmets.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
But they end up losing to a pretty good Colorado team.
Do they drop? A lot of people are expecting.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
That Minnesota Saint Louis Cannucks will be lumped in with
that group.

Speaker 1 (37:21):
Calgary finished tied with Saint Louis last year in points,
but Saint Louis got into the playoffs. Did the Calgary
Flames drop? A lot of people think that's gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
They could be the look the Canucks playoff chances come
down to a couple of things. Health we know don
they get If they get a top six center injury,
they're in trouble. They're in massive trouble. So health is
a key. Second line production is a key. You've got
a kid from Atbosfurd on the second line right now.
If that second line doesn't produce, you don't line scream
four are not going to get a ton of points.

(37:51):
Second line production is big.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
Elias Petterson has to be better. You know that Elias
Peterson and Thatcher Deampko has to stay healthy. Those are
the two big keys for this geame.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
Yes absolutely, Dempko returned to Vezina form and Peterson returned
to All Star form.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
Wouldn't that be nice? And the third key, of course,
those seats behind the net. They have to get practice
change and a practice facility, and I think the seats
are the biggest thing. Okay, okay, let's do some business
and then we'll throw to break. Get ready for a
big shot over there. October fifteenth, able Auctions will sell
industrial equipment including loaders, excavators, trucks, trailers, containers, and more.

(38:32):
October twenty second, Ables Auctions will sell the contents of
several closed restaurants. Restaurant business is a tough one, Oh absolutely,
about the ones that do well Chi chin Chi chain,
including high end commercial kitchen equipment and stylish front of
house furniture. Those ones that do well, maybe they'll scoop

(38:54):
up this stuff.

Speaker 3 (38:55):
But now you got all these ordering food places, you
can just sit at home and do it too.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
But the restaurants still make money off there. Oh yeah,
for sure. For information on the October fifteenth, I've got
a honestly, that's a segment. One day when we don't
have much to talk about, you know, skip the dishes
and door dash and all that. All these guys, you
know when you have teenagers, it's, oh, that's all they do.
It's interesting. For information on the October fifteenth industrial auction

(39:22):
or the October twenty second restaurant auction, go to Able
Auctions dot c A, b l E Auctions Dot c A.
John Shannon Top of the Hour.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
Up next, Big Rye, Twitter guy, Donnie.

Speaker 1 (39:33):
Delight the team on check. Just I had a Big
Rye the Twitter guy Bayside Oceanfront Resort inbox. I found
it this submission. It's from WAHS early Is it just me?
Is it just me? But a true Canucks fashion Sea
Loves will win the Vezina this season, So I give

(39:56):
credit where credit is to you. Watch. Thank you so much,
Big Rye. Let's just let me tell you.

Speaker 5 (40:03):
There was some hot takes out of Night one of
the NHL because the Blackhawks loss of the Panthers. I
heard people going, man, the Blackhawks, their rebuilding is gonna
last forever.

Speaker 1 (40:12):
It's one game, like it's fun.

Speaker 3 (40:14):
I had nineteen shots run by the way, but it's
what we're playing the defending champs.

Speaker 1 (40:21):
And say we have no bark Off. Yeah, it was
just like me last night. It's you're having no no, no,
I'm not.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
I'm having people take it so so no. No, I
totally agree. I totally agree, and he is banging on
with knuck luck. He will win the Vesitor Trophy probably
before that your demco does.

Speaker 1 (40:38):
I think it was. Wyatt Aren't made a very good
point on Twitter last night following up my tweet. He
made the point that you remember Mike Fountain. Oh yeah,
Mikesh what general much like Kirk MacLean had a shutout
in his first game as a Knucke. That's true, and
then his career didn't go the way he wanted to
at the NHL level.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
Mike Fountain, there you go.

Speaker 1 (41:00):
All right, we're going way back. Yeah, I know what
happened in the past. You don't care about that. I
never said that.

Speaker 3 (41:04):
I never said that.

Speaker 5 (41:05):
Okay, let's talk a little baseball last night, Mariners. I'm
gonna start with the local team, the Mariners. They get
the victory in Game number three over the Tigers, eight
to four. The key moment, though, is the moment that
went viral. Did you guys see cal Robley's home run
so hit his sixty.

Speaker 1 (41:20):
First home run. You see who he said T shirt?

Speaker 3 (41:21):
Yeah, look at this guy.

Speaker 1 (41:22):
The guy was wearing a T shirt that said dump
that said dump here, dump sixty one here. Yeah yeah, yeah,
total of his home run.

Speaker 5 (41:31):
Right, So he did hit number sixty one and it
actually bounced in the bullpen up to this fan. Oh
that is well perfect, is that this dude? Because you know,
you go to the work of wearing a T shirt
to a game like this, a custom one. You know,
the odds aren't great all those people, but it ended
up he got the baseball. So after the game he

(41:52):
actually met up with Cal. I've got a photo here.
He is from Washington. First of all, this is a
courtesy friend of the show, Aaron Levigne. Jamison Turner is
the guy's name from Longview who caught cal Rally's home run.
He brought a second shirt anticipation of the home run, so.

Speaker 1 (42:09):
It was underneath the sixty one shirt under sixty one
with sixty two die hard.

Speaker 5 (42:12):
So we had the second one as well. And the
third tweet I got here is from the Mariners. As
I mentioned, he caught up with Cal after the Gus.
The Mariners were able to get Cal get a photo
with Cal and assigned bat courtesy cal Raley Good Cal
said you could keep the baseball. I'm surprised I would
have thought he would have said, yeah, I'll take the ball,

(42:33):
like I'd appreciate that, and here's a bat and maybe
something else whatever.

Speaker 1 (42:37):
But yeah, he said.

Speaker 3 (42:37):
Cal didn't want the baseball, so he got to.

Speaker 1 (42:39):
Kelsey, Okay, yeah, I know, but still nice.

Speaker 5 (42:42):
I want that right now, I mean sixty one now
at this point, he's got let's see what happens. Mariners
have a chance to close it out tonight. They win
it for have a chance to close it out tonight
in Detroit, not tonight today in Detroit. Toody in his
first pitch it got bumped yesterday because of the rain delay.

Speaker 1 (43:00):
But more importantly, can you imagine how nervous people in
Toronto are to let's.

Speaker 5 (43:04):
Talk about the Blue Jays and by the way, I
am on the fence and whether or not I should
disclose what was said in the group chat last night
about the Blue Jays because he's gonna.

Speaker 1 (43:13):
Make you look bad.

Speaker 3 (43:14):
No, no, no, yes, I'll tell you why later.

Speaker 1 (43:20):
No No, okay, fine, I'll leave I'll leave it.

Speaker 3 (43:22):
Derek run the highlights we have a group chat every
so the Jays look at this last night, it's over.

Speaker 5 (43:29):
He hits a home run, third straight game to run bomb,
it's over. It's it's you know, look at this. They're
off through an amazing.

Speaker 3 (43:35):
Lovely in a second here, And I say that incredible.

Speaker 1 (43:39):
That Dan Shulman is.

Speaker 3 (43:41):
I mean, I will say the Jay's are incredibly lucky
to have him.

Speaker 5 (43:44):
Then this is the moment that I think people were
looking to make into some kind of memorial outside Rogers Center.

Speaker 3 (43:50):
This slide by Vladi Guerrero Junior. I mean, he gets
all air here and he's a big boy. That's a
train Smolt's brought up on the broadcast. He is thinner,
but that's a big coming into.

Speaker 1 (44:00):
Home plate like that. And that was after an intentional walk.

Speaker 5 (44:03):
After an intentional walk, which I don't blame them, right,
So I mean, look at this, he scores again.

Speaker 3 (44:07):
I'm looking at my Twitter. Did Jay's fans saying it's over?
One media member in Toronto specifically said it was over.

Speaker 1 (44:12):
Boy.

Speaker 3 (44:13):
Here comes Aaron Judge see audios into the evening it goes.

Speaker 1 (44:16):
And that pitch was so far inside I know, and
he managed to get around on it. That was very impressive.

Speaker 5 (44:22):
And Joe Davis, who did the call for Fox, he
nailed it. He said, it's his moment and they were waiting.
I like, if they went out into the whimper into
the night last night, there was gonna be a lot
of hit.

Speaker 1 (44:32):
He's not good.

Speaker 5 (44:33):
He has been the first long ball, but no overall, right,
blad Girl Junior, to his credit, has had massive moments
so far. He's got the Grand Slam. He's had massive moments.
Judge hasn't had it. That was his moment last night.
So they win nine to six over the Blue Jays.

Speaker 3 (44:49):
Runs on the road should be good enough for a victory.
Six to one lead in the third, bad defense, too
many walks, too many errors. Just come on, guys, what
are you doing in the last It was very tough
to watch its real interest today.

Speaker 1 (45:03):
Well, yeah, so you got.

Speaker 3 (45:04):
Cam Schlittler for the Yankees.

Speaker 1 (45:06):
Careful, just carefully, Yeah, I know, just call them cam slit.
There it is.

Speaker 3 (45:15):
I got it against the bullpen game for the Jays.

Speaker 1 (45:18):
And I hate this bullpen game thing, like what what
are we doing? Bullpen game?

Speaker 3 (45:23):
Like there a couple of defens who aren't pitching the
wh and look at analytics Biber out fifty three pitchers.

Speaker 1 (45:32):
I know, I know, I don't get it.

Speaker 3 (45:35):
Ten times worse than analytics and hockey.

Speaker 1 (45:37):
It burned.

Speaker 3 (45:38):
It almost burnt Dan Wilson last night too, they pulled
I think it was Brazato was pitching for the Mariners.
He pitched like nine pitches. They don't bring them back
in the ninth. Caleb Ferguson, let's a ton of runs go.
They have to bring himunos to close the game. I
just I don't know, man, these these these managers with
their pictures like feeling it worked, crazy Savage, it did,

(45:58):
it did, Yeah, it did. Look at he I think,
is he on the mat? No, Gossman's on the mat.
If they go with five, and let me tell you,
if he goes back to Toronto, oh boy, and here's
a game five, the pressure in that building. It's going
to be one and eight in Toronto this year. Quit perfect.
That means they're quit creating drama, all the pressure creating drama.

(46:22):
The Blue Jays are eating one at home against the Yankees.
But you're telling me all the pressure, telling me that's
not a factor. But all the pressure will be on
the Chase.

Speaker 1 (46:31):
What did he text it. I don't even I can't
even remember.

Speaker 3 (46:34):
No, no, in the seventh thing, I had to go
out for a bit, and then so I came back
swung back in in the eighth to ninth innings. But
I had to miss an inning because I had to
do something.

Speaker 5 (46:42):
But anyways, unbelievable, mister blue Jays and he's texting us.

Speaker 3 (46:47):
You know what he was texting us about. I left
the seventh inning because I had that. This is like
the Lions, gamer stop. I had the seventh inning. I
had to miss and but I had a good reason.
You missed it, Okay, for.

Speaker 1 (46:59):
The let me tell you why you missed it, because
this is the next thing I was going to bring up.

Speaker 3 (47:02):
Was this. You were texting us about the helmets l Kings.

Speaker 11 (47:08):
I was.

Speaker 3 (47:08):
I had the remote going last night.

Speaker 1 (47:10):
I was all over the map, which, by the way,
so if.

Speaker 3 (47:12):
You missed it last night.

Speaker 1 (47:13):
So the Kings warmed.

Speaker 3 (47:14):
They warmed up in their regular home jerseys with beautiful
I love those jerseys. I'm good with them, and then
they tweeted this out.

Speaker 5 (47:22):
They said surprise, and as they came out from their
player introductions, they introduced their new third jersey and the
third jersey is a take on the purple.

Speaker 3 (47:29):
And gold their original jerseys, but they flipped it at
the Fabulous into black and silver now. But the additional
piece to it is what everybody brought up last.

Speaker 1 (47:38):
Night, helmets, which is the helmets. Look, what are we doing?

Speaker 3 (47:43):
Why are we doing these helmets?

Speaker 5 (47:45):
And they had the silver, remember they had them in
the past, they had these are matter of a matte silver.

Speaker 1 (47:50):
They had the shiny silver in the past, much like
Vegas had the shiny gold goal.

Speaker 3 (47:55):
Guys doing this isn't hockey.

Speaker 1 (47:57):
This is I mean, this is horrible. Look.

Speaker 3 (47:59):
I don't like them.

Speaker 1 (48:00):
I don't like horrible look.

Speaker 3 (48:01):
And a beautiful uniform, you know. And then, as Donny
said last night in our group text, you ruined the
uniform with the stupid helmet.

Speaker 1 (48:09):
Yeah, I agree, I agree that beautiful. There was also
an issue with the crown back in the day.

Speaker 3 (48:14):
Yeah, what do you mean?

Speaker 1 (48:16):
It's actually a queen's crown, not a king's crown.

Speaker 3 (48:19):
At the Fabulous for him when they were purple and yellow.
So why would they why would they have done that?

Speaker 1 (48:23):
We don't know, somebody made a mistake. Yeah, we don't
make them around here. No, never, never. The person in
charge of that crest is also the person in charge
of the seats and Roger that is a good point.

Speaker 3 (48:35):
Yeah, but you know the helmets, You're right, Like I saw,
I could focus on them like these things are hideous.

Speaker 1 (48:40):
They look awful. Who came up the Canucks?

Speaker 5 (48:42):
Remember the Canucks had the matt helmets or the shiny
helmets for one game or no, it was like three games.

Speaker 3 (48:46):
Remember they auctioned them off a couple of years back.
Worked shiny blue. No, the shiny it doesn't, it takes away.

Speaker 1 (48:52):
It was better than the heads, better than these. Yeah,
I didn't. I didn't mind them. The Kings they lost, right, Yeah,
they lost.

Speaker 3 (49:00):
Not good effort at all.

Speaker 1 (49:02):
Yeah. Well, I mean I heard Bruff and Rough talking
about whether or not Jim Hiller might be on the
hot seat.

Speaker 3 (49:09):
That's one game. But Broff and Rough are experts. I
want to fire a coach.

Speaker 5 (49:12):
Apparently the odds makers have Andrew Burnett out of Nashville.
I would see Jim Hiller for sure.

Speaker 1 (49:18):
Well, and the other thing with Hiller, and you know,
this goes against what you expect from any team from
you know, Lulla Land to Los Angeles and one of
the entertainment capitals of the world. They play a real
boring style and he knows like the one three one.
I'm not sure what system he employed, but they're infamous
the last couple of years for for coming in and
dulling things big.

Speaker 3 (49:39):
Yeah, and look at I'm not a massive Pete de
Boor fan. In the playoffs last year, but I know,
but remember they went out against Edmonton.

Speaker 1 (49:46):
Again there was the infamous replay right, which Hiller called
for right.

Speaker 3 (49:52):
And I'm not a massive Pete de Boor fan, but
him sitting there on the sideline is gonna It's gonna
speed up the process, I think for teams because of
the pet like it or not heet like. In my opinion,
he's come up short in big moments, but he has
got his tea together in the year right, and so
especially with the Kings, they feel I think that they're
in a window.

Speaker 1 (50:12):
He's sitting there.

Speaker 3 (50:13):
I got to use it. If I'm hither. I'm renting
a condo in LA at this.

Speaker 1 (50:17):
Point, probably is already.

Speaker 3 (50:18):
Maybe John Shannon's coming up next.

Speaker 5 (50:20):
From one hundred percents hundred percent hockey, it's Donny Dolly
the team.

Speaker 3 (50:23):
I check.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
Hey, everyone, it's Donnia Dolly, and we're looking to partner
with your company.

Speaker 3 (50:29):
We have several packages and price points to fit your
budget and spread the word about your company on the show,
in our podcast and on social media.

Speaker 1 (50:37):
We'd love to get involved with your company called two
five oh eight eight oh twenty two eighty two or
email advertise at checkmedia dot Ca. Wednesday and all of
our guests today brought to you by our friends at
Pastime Sports and Games on Them from Rick and Ryan.

(51:01):
A little bit later and right now we're joined by
from one hundred percent Hockey and one percent Canucks, those
two podcasts, John Shaddon. John, thanks for doing this, sir,
How are you?

Speaker 11 (51:12):
I'm great boys, happy to get the season started.

Speaker 1 (51:15):
Oh officially last night and this morning news out of Winnipeg,
Kyle Connor extends with the Jets ninety six million dollars
over eight seasons, aav of twelve million, richest contract in
Jets slash Thrashers history. John, your reaction.

Speaker 11 (51:37):
Not surprised. This is exactly what's supposed to happen. It happened.
It happened when it was supposed to happen.

Speaker 12 (51:44):
Kyle Connor, who had a career year of ninety seven
points last year is really a lynch bind at the
success of that hockey club. So it fits right in,
you know, when you look at the guys that he's
compared to a Mitch Marner. Marner got twelve million dollars
in Vegas, So this is what Kyle Connor deserves in Winnipeg.

(52:05):
And really, when you think about it, Winnipeg, smallest market
in the league Canadian city, has done a magnificent job
of retaining their stars. When you think of Connor, Hellibuck's
signed long term, Mark Schifley signed long term, Josh Morrissey
signed long term, and now Kyle Connor has signed long term.

(52:27):
It's quite frankly, an amazing story. And the next guy
to sign long term, who's injured right now will be
Adam Lauri.

Speaker 1 (52:35):
What a players like about playing there, John, other than
the fact obviously right now they're a pretty competitive team.

Speaker 11 (52:42):
Obviously the weather. Oh sorry, I couldn't resist.

Speaker 12 (52:50):
Here's here's what I think has happened. This was this
was not always a great place to play. And three
years ago the player in their exit meetings called for
a change in culture, and Kyle Connor was part of
that group of guys that said, we need a change
in culture, and they brought in Rick Bonus, brought in

(53:13):
Scott arneil, and that change of culture started, and really
the accountability to the players really started at that point.
They removed Blake Wheeler as the captain, they made Lowry
the captain, and it spoke volumes to the guys inside
the room. There was at one point Donnie in that

(53:35):
room so many cliques that it was ridiculous. The players
were running the hockey club. That has changed and now
they talk about family in Winnipeg, they talk about how
things are so close.

Speaker 11 (53:47):
You actually saw it.

Speaker 12 (53:48):
You saw a great example of it last year in
Game six against Dallas on the day that Mark Seifeley's
father passed away and they were eliminated from the playoffs,
and he just happened to be in the penalty box
when Dallas scored in overtime and Adam Lowry actually skated
into the penalty box to console number fifty five. It
has become a really tight group and I think it's

(54:14):
reflective of how well the team has played in the
last three years. And now Scott O'Neil has taken the
mantle from Rick Bonus and done a magnificent job as well.

Speaker 3 (54:23):
We got to talk about Connor McDavid's contract. John just
shocked everybody the aav of twelve point five million sam
as before. This guy could have got seventeen eighteen nineteen
million if he really wanted to your thoughts on that deal.

Speaker 12 (54:40):
So since Connor has agreed to sign, they've also signed
Jake Wallman yep, and the Tschom. You do wonder a
if Wallman or eCOM could have gotten more, if Connor
had gotten more. Connor set the tone for what this
organization in Everonton is going to be about for the

(55:00):
next three seasons at least. And for him to not
take a pay rise, which is shocking, and then put
two more years on his deal, I think is reflective
of him putting his money where his mouth is. He
wanted to win. He wants to win in Edmonton and

(55:21):
it's as simple as that. Did he make a mistake
by doing it? We will only know in three years.
He's given them notice. The notice is we have three
years in Edmonton to turn things around, and by turning
things around, that means engraving their names on the Stanley Cup.
And if that's the case, then I suspect that Connor

(55:42):
might stay longer than that. If they don't win in
the next three years, we're going to be talking about
Connor McDavid in the same terms that people in Vancouver
are counting down the twenty four months of Quinn Hughes.

Speaker 3 (55:55):
Absolutely speaking of the Canucks, A lot of people think
they're going to make the playoffs, A lot of people
outside of Vancouver, John, but a lot of people inside Vancouver.
I don't see a second line that may or may
not produce. You know, the gold heading in the blue
line is great, but this is not a great forward
group to begin the season.

Speaker 12 (56:15):
John, No, but Patrick Alvin and Jim Rutherford have never
been afraid to make changes on the fly either. I'm
one of those guys that picks them to be third
in the Pacific Division this year. A lot is based
on what we're seeing from Quinn Hughes, a lot is
based on the health of Thatcher Demko, and a lot

(56:38):
is based on a revived Elias Patterson and so I
think they can be a playoff team. I love their
back end if it stays healthy, and that's the way
this game has played so well.

Speaker 11 (56:56):
Strength up the middle. Rick you're not wrong.

Speaker 12 (56:58):
You know, if Teddy, who tweaked something last week, is
out a little longer than they expect, that might be
a challenge. But it is only October, and the challenge
for Vancouver is the next six weeks is to win
more than they lose, to stay in the hunt because
of knowing the long term they'll have a good chance.

Speaker 11 (57:17):
So I have them third.

Speaker 12 (57:19):
I don't think that's unreasonable, but you know what, they
have to stay healthy and that's a big part of it.

Speaker 1 (57:26):
John. Meanwhile, three games still open up the season A
last night for the National Hockey League, one hundred and
ninth season of operation for the NHL. How would you
describe the current state of the league.

Speaker 12 (57:40):
I don't think it's ever been better. You know, when
you look at the financial viability of where the players
and the owners are together, the new CBA that will
be enacted next summer, when you talk about franchise values
going through the roof, When we hear about expansion dollars,

(58:02):
potential expansion dollars being close to two billion dollars for
a team, the business of hockey's very good. You know,
the cap is going up after being flat because of
COVID the cap is going up, so the business is
very good. It's you know, are there still teams losing money? Yeah,

(58:23):
there are, but you know, there is a revenue sharing
system that works and has worked well. And what we're
seeing now is better numbers from TV in the United
States and in Canada, we're seeing more television dollars coming
in the door. So there's a lot of positive more

(58:43):
sponsorship than ever before. There's a lot of things to
look at and say, wow, the game has never been better,
and I think that that's the one way to approach it.
You know, the American teams. There's a few American teams
celebrating their one hundredth year this year, including the Rangers
and the Red Wings and the Boston Ruins. So there

(59:04):
are things that have worked pretty well in a lot
of cities right now. And it's gonna be a great
season when you and and it's going to be topped
off by what we're going to see in Italy and
yeah in February, Donnie, and that's that's exciting as well.

Speaker 1 (59:17):
Yeah, and the on ice products has been terrific since
since the rule changes. I think, Hey, speaking of television,
he touched on it there, but John Tortorella back as
an analyst in the National Hockey League, now working out
with ESPN. He's done this before. How do you think
he's gonna fare this time around? Oh?

Speaker 11 (59:37):
I think John Tortorella will be John Torterella.

Speaker 3 (59:39):
You know.

Speaker 12 (59:40):
That's that he's gonna if he doesn't like something, he's
gonna say he doesn't like it, and that that's all
the always been the way that John has been. I
was gonna say he's he's an analyst until somebody hires
him exactly, you know, But you do, you know, you
do have to wonder if if he has decided that

(01:00:01):
it's it's time not to coach anymore. But at the
same time, you know it's in his blood. You know,
he has a farm just north of the city of
New York, and he's not far from Bristol, Connecticut. So
it makes it makes a ton of sense for John
to be an ESPN guy and and and still maintain
some level of profile in and around the game. So

(01:00:23):
Tarts will be torts And you guys know it as
much as anybody when you consider what he did in
Vancouver for the year and what he's done since. I
wish him well he's always fun to talk to.

Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
You mentioned his farm in New York. He's also got
a Murphy bed at Rogers Arena.

Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
Still I think, yes, yes, yes he does remember that story?

Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
Yep?

Speaker 11 (01:00:43):
Is that that's out of the Dick for meals in school?

Speaker 1 (01:00:46):
Right?

Speaker 12 (01:00:47):
Dick for Mill was the first coach that I ever
heard that slept at the stadium and then of course
then he burned out so he had to quick there.

Speaker 1 (01:00:55):
That's right. Yeah, there you go. Hey, uh, people know
what I'm talking about if you look it up on
YouTube or if you don't know what I'm talking about. John,
thanks for this. We'll talk to you next week. I
have a great week. Boys.

Speaker 11 (01:01:09):
Enjoy the start of the season against the Flames.

Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
To morning, Yeah, I love it, John Shannon one percent
hockey Canucks. Remember Dick for cry at the drop of
the hat to he was talking about his players and
I say that love it lovingly.

Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
But he was a great coach.

Speaker 1 (01:01:25):
Dick.

Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:01:26):
John Toroderella lived in Point Roberts. Roberts you know this.

Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
They didn't want to go back and forth.

Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
Yeah, so the Canucks game set things up from game
at Rogers Arena. Okay, thanks to John Shannon, break and
we'll update the poll question next. Toney Delight the team.

I'm throwing you a bit of a curveball here. Maybe
could show my tweet from last night which caused problems
uproar on X on Twitter. I didn't really mean it,
sure triggered a lot of people. I was trying to
be a little bit cheeky here, but the tweet the
Connects made the right decision in trading Arcurcy loves dot

(01:02:58):
Dot Dot Dot. One thing I've didn't and I got attacks.
One thing I've.

Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
Realized about Twitter. There's a lot of negative people.

Speaker 1 (01:03:05):
You're one of them.

Speaker 3 (01:03:06):
No, it's not positive. I'm positive. I don't tweet anything
unless it's positive. And I certainly don't do what you do,
engage and fight with them. So everybody that is so wrong.
I have now started fighting with them in DMS. Well,
that's fine. If I have an issue, I go to
the d MS and I go like this, I type away.
But you when you fight with them, you let them

(01:03:27):
win publicly.

Speaker 1 (01:03:28):
You did that. I find it's wrong, but I find
the fighting kind of fun. Okay, there's too many nutbars.
There's a Canucks Twitter leads the NHL in the amount
of nutbars on Cannucks Twitter.

Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
It is not even close. There is no other city
in the NHL that has the amount of nutbars that
the Canucks Twitter has. I don't know about that. Take
that to the bank.

Speaker 1 (01:03:51):
Okay, by the way, in case you didn't know, Archer
she loves twenty five sisters ware his Penguin's regular season
last night, wattling dog pole questions.

Speaker 3 (01:04:01):
All right, right, Ryan, get her up the watling dog up,
pop pole question. What's your reaction? Archer? She loves a
twenty five stay shutout last night for the Penguins. Don't
carries in Pittsburgh is leading at eighty two percent. Caducks
made a mistake seventeen eighteen percent, which is there you go,
decent number eighteen percent, you know, eight hundred and seventy
eight forty seven votes, So there you go.

Speaker 1 (01:04:23):
It's off.

Speaker 3 (01:04:23):
And yeah, so you got me go, you get me
going on Twitter, and it's not fair to us. Okay,
but Donnie, we have public jobs more so than anyone
else in society.

Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
You know, we got eight players.

Speaker 3 (01:04:36):
Do you think the plumber or do you think the
carpenter that you know that you know he makes a kitchen,
he's an inchro off and he gets lambasted by his
boss and two other people when we make a mistake.

Speaker 1 (01:04:48):
He's the guys in charge of playing the seats Rogers Arena.

Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
We have public jobs and unfortunately, sadly for us, we
have to deal with my idiots.

Speaker 1 (01:04:56):
Well, you know what, tell that to the guys at
Rodgers Arena. Why Canucks organization you're in the public eye.
You're gonna get criticized once in a while.

Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
But thirty years ago, there wasn't Twitter. It's a bad thing, Donnie,
It's it's a runing society.

Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
I find it kind of fun. Okay, you had a
scoop Canucks practicing at ten thirty and would you look
at this picture here?

Speaker 3 (01:05:16):
Oh, look at this.

Speaker 1 (01:05:17):
We've never seen anything like this before this. Look at
this this.

Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
Look look at this from Jeff Patterson Adam Foot.

Speaker 1 (01:05:25):
You were very excited about it.

Speaker 3 (01:05:26):
I think this is great. Adam Food addressing Okay, Adam
Food addressing the Canucks at the end of the final
practice before the regular season opener. Donny, this is big.
You don't know what he's saying there. This is the
last Ye got that right. He's got a pep talk
for the boys. This is it, boys, The bullets are
firing tomorrow night. No more preseason stuff. Get ready, you know, get.

Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
Your act in order and let's go. If that's the speech,
they haven't got a chance tomorrow. Like, honestly, this is his.

Speaker 3 (01:05:57):
Last kick of the can to talk to the boys.
You were, You're excited about that. I thought this is
a great picture. I think Jeff did a great.

Speaker 1 (01:06:03):
Because you don't see this at very many hockey practices,
minor hockey, rarely, junior hockey.

Speaker 3 (01:06:07):
Last one before the regular season open.

Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
And if you'll look in the background, there all those
black seats, one small section is still Burgunde and you
guys are.

Speaker 3 (01:06:17):
No more seats about no more seat talk or practice rink.
They don't have a practice rink. It just let's let's
let's stop it with that stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
Okay. Yesterday after practice, I thought Quinn Hughes great was
eloquent yesterday as the captain of the bank or of
Econdo talk to the media. And here's what Quinn had
to say. I think it's the second Quinn Hughes clip
Derek on his team's new fresh energy.

Speaker 9 (01:06:42):
It's not you know, the whole average heard team came up.
It's just two or three guys, so they don't doesn't
really impact the team too much. But I think that
everyone just came with a fresh mentality and positive and
happy to be here and got you know some I'd say,
we're just a different We're in a different place than
we were last year, probably more at peace. And I

(01:07:03):
think guys are just you know, you know, it's enjoyable
to come in the rink.

Speaker 1 (01:07:06):
Right now, what do you make of that? More at peace?

Speaker 3 (01:07:11):
Yeah, well I'll diffred Miller and Pederson. That dark cloud
is over. Elias doesn't have to put up with that anymore. Done.
It's a big thing. Last year was drama. It was
it was National Inquirer Center for all the you know,
the Canucks made the news for all the wrong reasons
last year. That's gone. The outside noise is gone, the
drama's gone, that feud is gone. And and and look

(01:07:33):
the guys are looser, Lucy Goosey. It's a good thing done.

Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
We don't know what happened between the two. I've heard
a million different different things, right, we don't know for sure. Again,
we look forward to the book if you're into that
sort of thing. But what I find surprising to this
day is that you can say what you want about
the Canucks and and about their management, their coaches. These

(01:07:57):
are tough guys. They've they've seen it all. He've been
through a lot. They've been through a lot in the
world of professional sports. I know they make a lot
of money, but I just was surprised that they couldn't
get over this, like I don't care where you work.
Hockey's no different, pro hockey's no different. Things come up.

(01:08:18):
You and I fight everybody, and you get you can't
get over it.

Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
Fight was it, You fight with family members, you fight
with neighbors, co workers. It's human nature.

Speaker 1 (01:08:29):
But usually, you know, ninety nine times out of one hundred,
you get over it and you move on. Your Relationship's fine.

Speaker 3 (01:08:34):
But Donny, here's the thing. What you're missing. It wasn't
a one year thing. Travis Green dealt with it, Bruce
Boudreau dealt with it, Rick Talcket dealt with it, and
Adam Foot thankfully hasn't. He doesn't have to deal with it.

Speaker 1 (01:08:45):
Well, that's maybe the advantage for the cannuction is that
Adam Foot. Adam Foot was around for it. Wasn't the
guy in charge, but he was around it for it.
Was aware. Maybe he's one of the keys to unlock
Ilias Petterson and get him back to where he spingle.
You've got some business.

Speaker 3 (01:09:02):

Speaker 1 (01:19:53):
I didn't know the guy to see you, but you
got the target audience. I am.

Speaker 3 (01:20:00):
You shouldn't have to google a guy's name when he's
at a super Bowl halftime Ricky.

Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
He has forty nine million Instagram followers like and I'm

Is it just me? Go? I think RP in White
Rock deserves a medal today. This is a submission of
the decade. Okay, before Twitter and social media, people stupid
opinions were kept to themselves, were close to family and friends.
Now they're Stupidity is everywhere RP and White Rock.

Speaker 1 (01:22:10):
That's not true, Dan Russell, Talk Radio.

Speaker 3 (01:22:13):
Okay, but the Twitter wasn't alive. The only way to
get to Dan first was emails, phone calls. Now you
got these guys ripping and tearing twenty four to seven.
It's all that RP and White Rock. You nailed it.

Speaker 1 (01:22:26):
It's fun. It's not Adam the former Bath guy. Is
it just me? But the Connects could have an absolute
bargain of a contract with Brock Besser compared to Kyle
Connor and Kiril Gaprisov.

Speaker 3 (01:22:38):
Yeah, I like that one. And how about if Besser's healthy, Donnie,
and if Peterson's back to Peterson? I could see thirty
five to forty goals from Brock. I really could.

Speaker 1 (01:22:49):
Yeah, twelve million a season for Kyle Connor. Yeah today
in Winnipeg.

Speaker 3 (01:22:53):
He deserves it. He's a wonderful hockey player. He deserves it. Ryan,
you scoffed. But Corey Hart and men without having both
put on good concerts, Rob in the West End. Don't
scoff at guys in the eighties, right, don't scoff Corey
Hart was good?

Speaker 1 (01:23:07):
You know that?

Speaker 3 (01:23:08):
And then without hats great? What was the big hit?

Speaker 1 (01:23:11):
The safety dance? Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:23:12):
Every time that comes on in.

Speaker 1 (01:23:13):
The car, I crank it absolutely oh, you take them
over and it's a Canadian band.

Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
Canadian bands, Canadian content over all the way, go go go.

Speaker 1 (01:23:25):
Is it just me?

Speaker 3 (01:23:25):
Or would the lower bowl actually look better if the
first ten rows were marooned all the way around? The
two tone look from the seventies and eighties Tony and Absford.

Speaker 1 (01:23:35):
Well, the seventies and eighties the Colisseum the Blues were up.
Probably the lower bowl was blues. No lower bowl was
Red's opera Bowl. Blues man, you had a seat in
those Reds. You're a king of the neighborhood, yes, back
in the day.

Speaker 3 (01:23:48):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (01:23:49):
Is it just me? Or is Kane Coots Lecramckie actually
the second line and that's from Shaite.

Speaker 3 (01:23:57):
Yeah, I wouldn't want to put Coots in second matchups
at the NHL level, not right now doing I think
Hetl's your second line set but they look promising. You
love that goal the other night where Coot set up
with Kara makiw That's the future.

Speaker 1 (01:24:12):
Right there, Nick from Vick is it just me? But
when it comes to the Blue Jays, Rick is just
like those snowflake knuck fans that can't handle any criticism
about their team.

Speaker 3 (01:24:22):
Well, Ryan says, Oh, I have to go back to
Game five in Toronto. Oh, the Blue Jays are done.
Blue Jays are eight and one at home against the Yankees.
That's why I got mad.

Speaker 1 (01:24:30):
But I understand where Ryan is is coming from. As
for the snowflake Canuck fans, it's they're not the only
ones who can handle the criticism in this town.

Speaker 3 (01:24:39):
The fans, all right, Bains should not be in the NHL.
He should be sent down. Not good enough for the NHL. Burt,
that's you saying that, not that I'm reading the Burke Mountain,
Dennis Burke Mountain, Dennis. Uh, he's not a fan of beings.
Bines is online two practice and tomorrow with Heatel and Garland.

Speaker 1 (01:24:57):
And he was on line two yesterday as well.

Speaker 3 (01:24:59):
Get ready for that tomorrow night in the opener against Calgary.

Speaker 1 (01:25:02):
Don die from Nanaimo.

Speaker 3 (01:25:03):
Is it just me?

Speaker 1 (01:25:04):
I understand Bublet is negotiating with the conducts about converting
his home rank into a practice facility. This legend of
Michael having a doesn't he have a big rink at
his house? I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:25:16):
You should know your buddies with him? Is it just me?

Speaker 1 (01:25:18):
How about Patrick Carnandez for the halftime show.

Speaker 3 (01:25:21):
Lol. Unsigned Yeah, that's a good one. I like that, Uh,
Ryan and Rick are Wright. It has nothing to do
with contractors. It's not done because Aquaman is cheap, unwilling
to spend on appropriate labor to get the job done.
The seats are not done at Rogers Arena.

Speaker 1 (01:25:39):
I'm gonna disagree with that just because, well that might
be true. But are you telling me nobody has ever
had a construction project delayed because of a contractor next month.
This is nothing against contractors. It just happens all the time.
There were no playoff games, the rink was empty and
look what they got done? Nothing, Dwight? Is it just me?

(01:26:02):
But don't forget Roggy Vashon was also the key to
Team Canada's victory at the Canada Cup in nineteen seventy six.
Roggy vash On Bobby or led the way in that
Darryl Sittler too in.

Speaker 3 (01:26:15):
That historic Donny, didn't he have a great mustachee?

Speaker 1 (01:26:19):
Yes? Yeah, that you take away from the seventy six Canada.

Speaker 3 (01:26:22):
Roggy va Sean had a great mustache.

Speaker 1 (01:26:24):
You talked about Tom Sellig's mustache. Why yesterday? Ryan, do
you have rog.

Speaker 10 (01:26:30):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:26:30):
But Donny he he had a good, thick Hall of
Famer mustache. It was something else back in the days.

Speaker 1 (01:26:37):
No, you know what else he had was a great
mask hit a mask that had a.

Speaker 3 (01:26:43):
Oh and look at the uniform. I love this.

Speaker 1 (01:26:46):
That's what they tried to replicate. A black and silver
the Kings yesterday.

Speaker 3 (01:26:49):
Look what the Kings have done to this beautiful, glorious,
fabulous forum eighties look, Donny, dis.

Speaker 1 (01:26:56):
I think both their looks, both their color schemes are excellent.
The purple and gold and the black and silver.

Speaker 3 (01:27:02):
That uniform was tremendous. And when they would come to
the Pacific Haliseum, it was beautiful.

Speaker 1 (01:27:07):
Man, if you ever had to if there's ever one
pitcher that said hockey in the seventies, it's this.

Speaker 3 (01:27:12):
One right there. He needs a haircut, there's no question.
Oh no, no, no, no, no, don Long too long?

Speaker 1 (01:27:18):
Was everybody at hair buscut?

Speaker 3 (01:27:20):
I know that, but I'm just telling you, but look
at the mustache. Top ten, top ten mustache in the eighties,
right there.

Speaker 1 (01:27:24):
