Speaker 1 (01:01):
I'd explain this to you this morning. You were shocked.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
For those of you that missed it earlier on in
the week, we announced on the show on our first
show back, actually we announced it that this season Donnie's
getting some extra well deserved time off so he's gonna
do Monday to Thursday, and on Friday, you and I
are going to sit here and handle things at the
big desk together.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
You and I. You remember Fred lattermo I vaguely remember
that I worked with Fred.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
Yeah, back in the mid nineties, great Vancouver DJ, one
of the best of all time, and he used to
take Fridays off.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Like Donnie, the legends can do it.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
The people that you know what have worked hard for that,
and and Fred Latimo did it back in the nineties
and Donnie's doing it right now and he deserves it.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
Absolutely, day off Friday, four day work week. We'll get
there someday too.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely absolutely. And now you had a tip off.
You have a lot of sources. Although I got guys
all over the Lower Main Yeah, with cameras.
Speaker 5 (01:59):
Yeah at uh that that send pictures to me, legal pictures,
and so you got you got legal legal, not illegal legal.
We got to picture Taylor this morning, first Friday off.
Yeah what And hold in a second. It's white Pine Beach.
Have you been to White Pine Beach? Is it White Pine?
(02:20):
I think I have been to White Pine Beach. It's
in Port Moody By Westwood Plateau.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
I don't know if it's in that area.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
I don't think it's I think okay, anyways, I get
mixed up with Westwood Plateau and uh Port Moody anyways. Uh,
this is Donnie this morning, first Friday off at the
White Pine.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Beach looking trim. Look at him. Yeah, absolutely got that
summer bot.
Speaker 5 (02:44):
You work decades and decades and decades to get Fridays
off and boom right there, first Friday off.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
And my prediction, I know we're having fun with this.
My prediction is actually just asleep at the moment. That's
what I'm going to guess that he's done in there.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
An Alouette Lake up there too. There's Alouette Lake.
Speaker 6 (03:03):
Uh up the Aloett Lake, White Pine Beach, that's where.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
So that's not close to Portant dude.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
Anyways, this is Donnie this morning, first Friday off White
Pine Beach.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
He's been working out, he's looking good.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
This is what happens as you get older, and you know,
you got to go to the gym more often.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Yeah, gotta pump weights, you got to eat right.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
Yeah, and I go to Trevor Linden's Uh, I know,
Jim uh in Uh soth Surry, I go to Linden's gym.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Also, they fixed the doors, by the way, for those
of you that missed it last season, Rick was Trevor
and because the doors you had to pour the toa
like into the gym, like the doors.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
That keep the bank money in the vaults.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
So I've told Trevor loosen it up or have a
button to push. But the and so Surrey, Trevor, Linda's Jim.
The first two doors are too heavy. Fix it up, Trevor.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Let's go in all seriousness, though, I just want to
say very quickly, I appreciate Donnie and you and Check
allowing me to do this on Fridays. This is a
cool thing for me, and so I appreciate that. And
I hope all the listeners and viewers continue to stick
with us on Fridays because we're gonna have a lot
of fun. We're gonna keep things as similar as they
are the rest of the week. Now, this weekend, it's
a big weekend on the Vancouver sports scene. You got
(04:28):
the Canucks going down to Seattle. We'll get to that
in a second. We should remind everyone tonight BC Place
Tonight is going to be very.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Busy around the area.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Oh boy, get a concert to Rodgers Arena, and you
got the Lions at BC Place. Seven o'clock kickoff rematch Lions,
Red Blacks. It's the campus clash game. They're doing a
whole bunch of things around back to school for post
secondary students.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Seven o'clock. That's the Lions and the Red Blacks. Absolutely,
and Ryan, I'm a little bit upset with the Lions
in the last two weeks. Got blown out on the road. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
In Ottawa, they have one of the best offenses in
the CFL. Nathan Rourke the running back's good, good receivers.
It's the defense. Let's be honest. You know, they're getting
lit up like a Christmas tree. It's not good. I
know everyone's putting heat on Mike Benavite's but hello, talent
matters as well. Yep, you know, talent matters.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Get going.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
Fix the defense tonight. They shouldn't have lost in Autawa.
They bleut in the last minute. But Nathan Work's doing
his part. The offense is doing their part. Defense, get
going for the Lions. We'll see how they do tonight
against Ottawa rematch.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yeah, we'll talk about that more later.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Tomorrow night at back Abaca Place is gonna be busy place.
White Caps six point thirty against the Philadelphia Union. Philadelphia
top of the league standings in the MLS. This is
a tough one for the Caps. Caps are in third
place right now in the Western Conference. Caps have been
off for about two weeks international break. This is will
be Thomas Mueller's third match and he's the one that
scored their last goal against Saint Louis and stoppage time.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
And it's a busy time for the Caps. Four matches
in twelve days starting tomorrow include.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
But they just had two weeks off.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
They just said two weeks off for sure, but still
that's a crunch. Including a Canadian Championship semi final, by
the way, versus Forge coming up next week. Now, this
is what I know you really want to focus on.
Tonight Man Cup Game number six in New West Queen's
Park Arena. Salmon Belly's looking to win their first Man
Cup since nineteen ninety one. That's an amazing year. Nineteen
(06:25):
ninety one's the year is born. So that's tonight seven
point thirty. It's sold out at Queen's Park Arena, Salmon
Belly's looking to close out the Man Cup. If needed,
Game seven will be tomorrow night at seven o'clock. Rick,
your New S Salmon Belly.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
All right, look, the Salmon Bellies twenty fifth Man Cup.
If they win tonight first in thirty four years, New
West is up on six nations three games to two,
Game six tonight, if needed, game seven tomorrow. If it
goes seven games, Ryan, it's going to be seven games
and nine nights.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
And the GM in New West is Rape Porcelado.
Speaker 5 (06:58):
I went to school with him in the EIGHTIESSS best
high school in.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
The Lord rad he graduated. Ray Porcelada was in grade eleven.
Speaker 5 (07:07):
I was in grade twelve and wss best high school
in Lower Mainland. Back in the eighties, it was a
lot of fun at Queen's Park. I'll tell you this much.
The New S Bruins there any punch McLean Salmon Bellies.
The history of the Bruins and the Salmon Bellies and
New Westminster unparalleled in the Lower Mainland. I mean, for
obviously the connection number one. But anyways, let's all cheer
(07:28):
for the Salmon Bellies to win their twenty fifth Men
Cup tonight first one and thirty four years. New s Bruins,
Queens Park, beautiful beautiful facility. When you walk into Queens
Park you smell no Donnie Ryan, Johnny you you smell
the history of the Salmon Bellies and the Bruins.
Speaker 7 (07:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
And in the eighties we went to both. Absolutely.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
Queens Park is one of the nicest rinks arenas in
the Lower Mainland with so much history going back.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Ninety four years. Salmon Bellies go get it tonight.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Yeah, and the crowds have been outside of that incident
we talked about earlier in the week, the crowds. Crowds
have been awesome as well at Queen's Park area. Yeah,
sold out, Yeah, New West Yeah, you.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
Know why the good see you know, beautiful, beautiful place
we used to go to the Bruin, Salmon Bellies, mugs
and jugs after Ben Castle, Blanka's Chicago Tonight and the
Towers the Boys in the eighties.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
We had fun. Now we mentioned it. The Canucks.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
They are hitting the ice this weekend for the first
time in the twenty twenty five twenty twenty sixth season.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
This is the Rookie Showcase. I believe I've got the
title right.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
It's it's the alternate to the Young Stars Tournament, which
is not happening this year unfortunately, which is the tournament
involving Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg up in Penticton year in and
year out.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
This time around, it's just between the Canucks and the Kraken.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
And this year's edition is going to be in the
States Tomorrow in Everett at the Angels Angel of the
windsor Rene and Sunday in Seattle.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Yeah, some of their top prospects are heading down. We
got the roster.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
These are all the guys that are gonna be featured
in this prospects showcase again happening over the next two
days in Seattle. Some of the notable names of course,
Jonathan Nakara, Mackie, he's gonna be there, Tom Milander's.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Good cots, DPD and we should mention.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
By the way Willander and DPD were They've been practicing yesterday,
yesterday and today they'll be practicing in abbats for it
and DPD and Orlander were paired up together. So look
for that to be the top pair probably this weekend
over these two games.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
And that goaltender Alexi Medvedev, keep an eye on him.
That's the goalie of the future. My eyes, Ryan, I'm
surprised he didn't go in the first round of the
NHL Draft. The Canucks got him in round two this year.
This guy's gonna be good and absolutely gonna be h
He's the goalie of the future in my eyes. Yeah,
there's no way fens or butts about it. But here's
the concern I have. After Lakara, Mackie and Coots on
(09:58):
this lineup, the remain eleven forwards. The Canucks don't have
a second rounder in there. They got a third rounder
in a Durvin. The rest are fourth fifth, sixth rounders.
Three are not drafted, two are Vancouver Giants not drafted.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
One of the.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
Reasons for the lack of forward picks is the Canucks
traded go back.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Ryan.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
The Canucks traded the first three picks in the twenty
twenty four draft. They didn't they traded the first two.
They took the third round guy and they traded him
for Marcus Petterson. There's a good chance, Ryan, I hate
to say this, but they might not have a player
from the twenty twenty four draft that plays for them,
just like the twenty twenty draft. So that means in
(10:39):
the last six drafts, the Vancouver Canucks might not have
a player absolutely play for them, which is demoralizing.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
It's not good, bro and Rick, you bring it's too
pronged in my opinion, because you bring up the trades. Right,
that's one thing, well, that has been one thing that's
obviously been a problem. But then it's also then the
limited picks they've had, and this goes back to the
betting era. If you look through Hockey dB in the
draft history for the Canucks, it's depressing, like they just
don't hit.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
They don't hit, they don't have this year of a guy.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
Oh, we found this guy and we've developed him, like
the last guy that happened to was what Yannick Hanson was. Like, Oho,
go look at the last six years. This year was
the first time the Canucks drafted in rounds one and
two together.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Right.
Speaker 5 (11:17):
That means the last five years they have traded either
the first or the second round pick, and you just
can't do that forever and forever. And this year they
don't have a third. Next year they don't have a second.
So you know what, it'd be nice to keep those
picks and keep those picks, but they keep trading them away.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Well, and usually that's linked with a lot of success,
Like oh yeah, okay, we've traded. That was the thing
about the twenty eleven team. Yeah we've traded and we're
not drafting all that often. But look at the success
we're having. We're in the Stanley Cup final and we're
this and we're that. Well, that hasn't been happening as
you bring up all the time over the last.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Decade or so.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
I think, I mean, I think all eyes are going
to be on Tom Holander. I mean, for me, I know,
we've had the game Jonathan Lakaramakie. By the way, Lakara
Mackie said yesterday, Remember he had that dental issue in
the going back to the playoffs alder Cut playoffs. That
was linked to an infection with his wisdom teeth. So
that's why he was out for all that time, Bubble cage,
(12:10):
all of that. So we had to rebound from that.
But Tom Milander did an interview with Chris Faber that
I thought was interesting. He talked about he was doing
two a days on ice sessions in Sweden over the summer,
twice a day.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
He was really dedicated to it.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
He I mean, like we'll see what happens, We'll see
what the path is like for him to be on
the opening night roster.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
And that's a tease for our post.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
He's going to get Tom Mollander is going to get
every think to make the opening night ross. I think
that kid Elis Petterson is gonna get every chance. They
could be in the third pair along with Forbert. Okay,
I want to say this. I am hearing that the
Canucks and the Giants are working together a little bit
more more open dialogue. You're seeing two undrafted Giants going
(12:53):
to Seattle with the Canucks prospects. The Canucks have never
drafted a player directly from the Vancouver Giants. Okay, Kevin
Connoughton was a Giants listed player drafted by the Canucks.
Mauriol Bliznak, you remember him, was a Canucks pick who
then was a Giants zero pick. The Giants have produced
a ton of good players, Lucics, Kane Gallagher, Byram and
(13:16):
all these guys, okay, you know, and Jilbert Boulay, but
no Canucks. So owner Ron Toygo and the Giants are
celebrating their twenty fifth anniversary this season. The Canucks have
never drafted a Giants player that's got a change, that's
got a change for me. They're in the backyard. Ron
Delrm's at every Canucks game in Langley, Giants game. You
(13:40):
gotta get and draft some of these Vancouver kids. They
haven't done it.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
The one that sends on it, the one that stands
out for me, Rick and I know he obviously his career,
you know, didn't really take off, but that was Tyronning
twenty sixteen. Round seven is the seventh round, yep. You know,
a legend of the franchise in Cliff Ronning is sitting there.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Just do it.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
It's a seventh round, feel good Just add that level.
That would be a feel good story. You're right with
people that go out there, they can see a future Canock.
They can see that. You know, I think it's too easy,
and I'm glad to hear that they're working closer together
because again, you're right there, it's in your backyard. That
should be the case. So we'll continue to talk about
the prospect showcase as the show goes on and everything
(14:22):
else happening this weekend, and a reminder later on the
show is easy. Just me and I want to encourage

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Book now at Baside Resort, Parksville, dot Calm. I gotta
say the amount of people bringing up the fact I'm
not wearing a hat today. So last time when I
sat here on the chair that Derek completely forgot about.
Last time, when I was sitting at the desk, I
wore a hat and I got all these people. It's
so unprofessional, hando take your hat off when you're sitting
at the desk.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
So today I'm like, at least for the kickoff show,
I'm gonna go no hat. Okay, So I wear no hat.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Now I get all these people. Wow, handle, you're balding. Wow,
where's your hat? Where's your hat?
Speaker 1 (16:35):
I can't win.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
He speaking of guy's balding. Yeah, and speaking of guys
that also liked wearing a hat. Speaking of not much hair,
he's not really balding because he's bald.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
He's got a little bit of hair. No, yea, we'll
find out from.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
The Athletic and Sports Net six fifty it's Thomas Drantz
joining us for his first hit of the year.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Thomas, are you still bald? I told you there's a
little on the side. You not here it little on
the sides? Thomas? Is he frozen? Or is he just
ignoring us? Thomas? Maybe he's just ignoring us. I don't
know what's going on. Is he frozen? Uh? Nina? Did
he does he know? I think he's frozen? This is perfect?
(17:15):
Can you keep this? He's he's is he? Is he moving?
Derek the show? Show him again? This is hilarious. Oh Thomas, Wait, God,
he can't he can't hear us? How does he not know?
I'll find out what's going on. Let me text us
now he's looking Thomas. This is a great kickoff. Here
(17:38):
O s S. We'll, we'll, we'll, we'll, We'll get back
to Thomas in a second.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
I just asked you got to rehook with he said,
he said he can't hear us for some reason. So
I'm not sure what what's going on. Uh, it might
be on Thomas's end. I don't I don't know.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
It's got to be on his end. Uh yeah, well
I think.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
So if he can't, if he can't hear anything, that's
a bit odd, that's a bit surprising.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Well we'll figure it out.
Speaker 9 (17:57):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
I know Nina hasn't touched anything over there, so so
we'll figure it out.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Just back to the Canucks Prospect showcase right happening in
Seattle over the weekend. One thing I wanted to show, Derek,
do you have the ticket the seat map? Can we
just throw that up?
Speaker 1 (18:12):
I know you're because you tweeted this. I tweeted this
last night. So this is it.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
So, as far as I know, the Sunday game, there's
no tickets or anything available in Seattle. I don't know
if it's just going to be at the Krack and
ice play. So the bluest seats that are available. Yeah,
so this is the Angel of the Winds Arena and
the blue or the seats available, and they have a
lot unsold at the moment for this Prospect showcase. And
it's too bad because again in Penticton, it would be jam.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
Packed wal to wall.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
It was well, I shouldn't say jam packed because there
was seats available, but it is. It was openly available
for a lot of people. Surprises me, and I'm surprised.
I'm surprised by this that that the Kraken taking their
prospects to outside of Seattle.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
So so it's a different part of that too.
Speaker 5 (18:59):
Should have they should have done this in Seattle. But
this is and Sawyer Mineo too, right, yeah, you know
Sawyer Mineo is a kid from that area too. He's
from Kamlu's but he plays there. But this is surprising.
We got a day to go and this is how
many seats are available in every.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Yeah, this is and again this is I mean, I
don't know if they're expecting massive walk up crowd, but
this is the amount of seats available. And you'll notice,
by the way, tickets twenty seven dollars us UH for
this game.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
And that's a lot.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Cheaper than the scrimmage coming up for the for the
Canucks and Penticton.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
So that's, like I said, very Saturday, Just just so
you know, Everett Silver Tips, the Seattle Thunderbirds, all these
guys all those that's a good area for hockey. They
they support hockey really really well down there in that
Seattle area. The Thunderbirds have been great. Spokane's not far away.
It's a good hockey area.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
And for now it talks about that all the time.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
It's a and Everett. They've been good for years. It's
a really good hockey area down there.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Yes. Uh.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
And Thomas just told me he lost our feet about
thirty seconds before coming back from break.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
So what we're going to do. He's going to rejoin
the zoom, but we're gonna check where we're gonna. Let's
go to break early, Derek, or is he saying you
can hear us? Is he giving your thumbs up? You know? Oh,
he's got us.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
Okay, let's try this again, Thomas, frans And you were
making fun of me, him being bald and he couldn't
even defend himself either.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Thomas, you got us? Yeah I was.
Speaker 7 (20:31):
I was I on TV just sitting there.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
Yeah, you were pretending to work doom scrolling is right.
Speaker 9 (20:38):
Yeah, I was monitoring the situation.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
Okay, we're good, Tom. How are you? How is this summer?
Speaker 7 (20:45):
It was excellent?
Speaker 9 (20:47):
I got some fishing in got a lot of biking in,
got a lot of time at the pool, a lot
of time with the family, rejuvenated, excited.
Speaker 7 (20:54):
For this Canuck season.
Speaker 9 (20:56):
Honest with you, the storylines are plentiful, the steaks are
I mean, this should be fun.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
So let's start with what we were just talking about.
Speaker 5 (21:04):
I don't know how much you heard about it, but
we were talking about the rookie showcase, prospect showcase happening
in Seattle over the weekend. Your latest article at the Athletic,
you went from number ten down to number six in
terms of the top prospects in the Canucks organization. You
and Harmon Dall, how would you describe the situation and
the pipeline and the strength of it with the Canucks
and their prospects right now?
Speaker 9 (21:26):
Yeah, so I would describe it as being pretty interesting
at the top end.
Speaker 7 (21:30):
You know, I think there's five or six prospects.
Speaker 9 (21:33):
That genuinely are intriguing and at a diversity of positions.
Right You've got you know, the right handed defenseman and
Tom Blander, the centerman and Braden Koots.
Speaker 7 (21:44):
You've got a high end winger.
Speaker 9 (21:46):
Who you know, like, I don't think the Canucks are
expecting him to make the team this year. Jonathan Lacaera
MAACKI is of course what I'm talking about, but we
shouldn't undersell how impressive his age twenty season was, even
though he sort of struggled in the playoffs after you know,
being off ice and out of the gym for a
week to ten days following that infection in his mouth,
(22:06):
that dental complication. You know, it didn't really find his
game thereafter. But I think that's understandable. He dominated the
American League at the age of twenty, you know what
I'm talking like a higher goals per game clip than
guys like Frank Nazzar who've already signed for twenty five
million plus in Chicago.
Speaker 7 (22:23):
That was a really impressive season.
Speaker 9 (22:24):
So you know, there's some guys with top of the
lineup potential in this system. Legitimately, where it sort of
falls off is once you get past you know, I
guess Sawyer Mineo and Alexi Medvedev. You get to you know,
your Muller Ku Draft Sev tier, and then a bunch
of guys in that like Romani Riley Patterson tier, where
(22:45):
you know, there there's a little bit more like a
little more hopeful projection there, right, either lower ceiling guys
or long shot bets to play in the NHL at all.
And that's just a product of having traded a lot
of draft picks over the years, right, that's a product
of how few picks they made in twenty twenty three
following the or twenty twenty four, excuse me, following the
(23:07):
successful season, and all of the picks that they've dealt
over the years. The volume is low, but the quality
at the top end is legitimately exciting.
Speaker 7 (23:15):
And I think there's going to be spots in this.
Speaker 9 (23:18):
Canucks lineup for a variety of young players to come
in and make a strong case for themselves, certainly on
the back end with defenseman Elias Petterson Tom Blander, I mean,
I think those are guys with inside tracks to be
not just on this roster to open the season, but
maybe in the lineup for Game one. Atu Ratu clearly
has an inside track, but I think Brayden Coots has
(23:40):
a shot to be a dark horse candidate at Camp two.
He'll need to start by dominating down in Seattle and
Enevorate over the course of this weekend, but you know,
he's a right handed centerman.
Speaker 7 (23:50):
The Canucks don't have right handed centerment.
Speaker 9 (23:51):
So yeah, there's some interesting names at the top end
of this prospect group and it'll be interesting to see
how they fare in this two game prospect series against.
Speaker 5 (23:59):
The Thomas Patrick. Alvin tried hard all summer to get
that second line center, he really did, and he was
moving and shake and there wasn't many people he could
make a deal with. Talk about the second line center
a situation heel is he good enough to be a
second line center in your eyes?
Speaker 9 (24:22):
I think he's good enough to be a low end
second line center, But the volatility at center, you know,
right on down the lineup Rick is what concerns me.
Speaker 7 (24:31):
Right, I mean, there.
Speaker 9 (24:31):
Is absolutely a case where Achu Ratu takes a step right,
where Philip Heetal stays healthy, where Eleas Petterson bounces back,
and where Teddy Blueger remains Teddy Blueger and the Canucks
are able to hold the forward center for long enough
to get off to a hot start and maybe add
in season, right, I mean, that is absolutely within a
realistic range of probability or possibility as we enter this season.
(24:54):
But we don't know what to expect from Elias Petterson
given what his last twenty months have looked like Plipedal
staying healthy has been a huge question mark, not just
for this team but throughout his career.
Speaker 7 (25:06):
And you know, Achu Rotu.
Speaker 9 (25:07):
Played well down the stretch, but he remains relatively untested
in more than a fourth line role. So, you know,
I just sort of look at this center mix and
think that's it's not so much that they don't have
like a good ceiling case on these players, Like could
could Philip Hetl play at a second line level?
Speaker 7 (25:25):
For sure?
Speaker 9 (25:26):
But could he also play twenty games over the course
of this entire season for sure? Right, So it's like
there's a ceiling case.
Speaker 7 (25:33):
Where this works.
Speaker 9 (25:34):
But the floor feels like it's you know, below the ground,
like subterranean. That there's no floor on this center group
going into this season, and that makes me a little
bit uneasy when I break down this team. It's part
of the reason why you know, a lot lots of
people will say stuff, you know, in analyzing the evergreen
question of will the Canucks make the playoffs, it's like, well,
they're probably a ninety point team, and it's like, I
(25:55):
don't know, man, I wouldn't be surprised if this Canucks
team was one hundred plus point team, but I also wouldn't.
Speaker 7 (25:59):
Be surprised given the volatility at.
Speaker 9 (26:02):
Center ice and some of the other question marks if
they're like an eighty five point team if they can't
stay healthy.
Speaker 7 (26:08):
So you know, I just think.
Speaker 9 (26:09):
There's a really wide range of outcomes on this Canucks team,
like an unusually wide range of outcomes going into the season.
And I feel like the center question really underlines that.
Speaker 5 (26:19):
Back, who from Absburg are you picking to come into
Vancouver and grab a role and not just for two
or three weeks stay all season?
Speaker 7 (26:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (26:31):
Yeah, I mean honestly, like, here's the thing, right when
I look at the three guys in particular, because I
think Elias Petterson is on this team, I think got
to rat two's on this team. So when you ask
me that question, Rick, I'm talking about three guys. Maxis
on our steep bans and Linus Carlson, right, does that bear?
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Yep? Yep?
Speaker 9 (26:49):
And so Linus Carlson is nasty, like really skilled, really
good on the wall, really good down low. I think
he could carve out a role as sort of a
bottom six guy and a net power play specialist on
PP two. I think that's like very much in the
in the cards, but that speed is really problematic, right,
Like his speed might just not be high enough for
(27:11):
him to be an everyday NHL player. He hasn't answered
that question yet. Every coach who coaches and loves him.
The skill is a parent, the toughness is a parent.
He was scoring power forward goals for them in the
Calder Cup playoffs. But I don't know, like, does the
speed play at the NHL level full time? We don't
have an answer for that, and I don't know the
answer for that, but that concerns me a little bit.
Speaker 7 (27:30):
Maxson.
Speaker 9 (27:31):
You know, I think this club views him as a
winger at the NHL level. He's not very long, and
he doesn't win a ton of draws, really fast, really smart, right,
hard to play against for a guy who's you know,
not smaller but like shorter stature.
Speaker 7 (27:45):
He just doesn't have prototypical bottom six.
Speaker 9 (27:48):
Center size, and so you know, you're talking about a
transporting winger. I mean, I think he can be a player.
I think he can be sort of a fourth line guy,
but kind of low upside is sort of how I
avow him at this point, and I hope he proves
me wrong, Like I hope he comes out and has
had a great summer and crushes it because there's a
lot to like about his game.
Speaker 7 (28:08):
So I like both players.
Speaker 9 (28:09):
Then you get to Arshteep Baines, and you know, I
sort of see him as having enough speed, right enough skill,
Like I sort of see him as the most NHL
capable of those guys, even though I feel like the
fan base is lower on him given you know, a
pedestrian performances when he's had a shot at the NHL
level to this point in his career. But I think
(28:29):
he's got sort of more of the attributes that I'm
looking for in a full time NHL ar. So if
you have you made me pick between those three, I'd
pick Banes. But honestly, I think all three of them
might be able to carve out meaningful NHL careers as
supporting pieces, and maybe one of them hits and has
more upside than that. What they did during the Calder
Cup playoffs like that demands attention.
Speaker 7 (28:49):
That demand's attention. These guys, you know, deserve.
Speaker 9 (28:52):
A long look at training camp. They're going to get it.
And the other thing I'd note for your audience is
maxis On is waiver exempt. And the other two are
or not, So that means he's got a steeper hill
to climb because of the classic NHL numbers game at
training camp. If it comes down to the club just
wanting to preserve their depth as best they can.
Speaker 7 (29:10):
Assan will be the cut.
Speaker 9 (29:12):
But I would be pretty surprised if two of those
guys don't make the team. And if I had to bet,
I'd say Baines and I'd say carlsh PTOs.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Have you heard of anything about possible?
Speaker 5 (29:22):
Yeah, I haven't either, because there's so many guys in
Abbey that could they you know, they just wanted to.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Call the cup. Thomas, you got to reward some of
those guys.
Speaker 9 (29:31):
You know, And you're I mean already already when we
project out sort of what the roster looks like. I mean,
there's a lot of guys on one way deals. There
are not a lot of sort of jobs up for
grabs necessarily, and yet this club is intent on giving
some young guys an opportunity. I mean, I already think
we're going into a training camp where back of the envelope,
if I was to handicap it, I'd say Nils them
on and Jonathan Mcaramaki.
Speaker 7 (29:52):
Is an example, as two examples.
Speaker 9 (29:54):
Are probably on the outside looking in as we get
into training camp. I mean, on defense, you know, if
the Lander and Elias Petterson are going to make this team,
and forber it's going to make this team, and Po
Joseph on a one way deal, I mean, that's that's it.
Speaker 7 (30:08):
Like where's where's.
Speaker 9 (30:09):
The rosters fought for kudrabs have come from or or
one of those guys.
Speaker 7 (30:13):
So you know it's going to be competitive.
Speaker 9 (30:15):
But I also think, you know, I don't know that
they need those extra bodies necessarily slightly shorter preseason. I
was hearing that the club was going to sort of
spend some time debating this across the last two weeks,
maybe that maybe we get a.
Speaker 7 (30:31):
Late ad at this point.
Speaker 9 (30:32):
But you know, I'll probably know more of that after
this weekend, once I'm around the team and Everett in Seattle,
uh covering this prospect showcase this weekend.
Speaker 7 (30:42):
But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised.
Speaker 9 (30:44):
Honestly, Adam put in sort of his first year as
a coach, wanting to install some pretty different systems, wanting
to put his own stamp on this team, you know,
decided to keep his numbers down somewhat right, keep the
guys who actually matter for us at camp. That one's
shock me if that was sort of what he elected
to do in terms of heading up to Penticton and
(31:05):
getting this club ready for the season.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Thomas took a little bit, but we got you, and
we have you for another season on the program. We
thank you for joining us all year long and safe
travels down to Evidence Seattle for this weekend.
Speaker 7 (31:19):
Yeah, thank you, guys.
Speaker 9 (31:20):
I'm looking forward to being here again every Friday with
with YouTube.
Speaker 7 (31:23):
Gentlemen. I'll miss Donnie.
Speaker 9 (31:25):
Congratulations to him on on scaling back and getting that
flexibility in his schedule.
Speaker 7 (31:30):
Maybe I'll maybe, you know, with my travel schedule. I'm
sure I'll readbook to another day.
Speaker 9 (31:34):
At some point, Ryan, yea, and and get a chance
to tell Donnie how much I'll miss him myself.
Speaker 7 (31:40):
But thanks for having me excited to be here.
Speaker 9 (31:44):
Annoying Rick and your audience every week Friday mornings.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
You don't annoy me. I love you. We we have
our battles. We have our battles. Thanks, Thomas.
Speaker 9 (31:55):
That's kind of you to say yes.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Thanks, Thomas appreciated.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Thomas drants from the Athletic and Sportsnet six fifty were
way up against it for time, Yes, because it took
us a little bit to get Thomas.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
But that's okay.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
Up next though, we are going to introduce our wadling
dog poll question and we might even have time to
talk about a new practice facility as well that is
opening to the National Hockey League.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
That is all ahead. It is Donnie and Donnie the
team on check.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
The Vancouver Giants are celebrating their twenty fifth anniversary season
at the LEEC. Fans can check out a variety of
experiences all season long, including the unveiling of the top
twenty five players of all time. On the ice, you
can watch the electrifying play job Dallas Stars draft pick
and forty goal scorer Cameron Schmidt.

Islanders draft pick ber Hood will lead.

Speaker 4 (33:16):
It's time to introduce our waddling Dog poll question experience,
one of Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep, sip and stock up.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
All in one.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Legendary spot comes in and stay at the dog today.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
All right, let's get her up.
Speaker 5 (33:33):
The wattling dog pop pole question of the day, and
it concerns obviously, this is a big weekend. The Canucks
prospects are in Everett down south. The which Canucks prospect
has the best chance to crack the opening night lineup?
Look at this at to Ratu sixty one percent, followed
I'm really surprised Tom Lander is this low at fifteen percent,
(33:56):
and then Lacarramaki comes in at thirteen, and then you
got Lina's car.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
Why are you surprised that Lander?
Speaker 5 (34:04):
I could because they are going to give this guy
every opportunity to make the team. But don't you think
it's all purely based on the path Okay, like I
think I think if Ratu is getting that much love
because of the center the current center depth issue. Yeah,
because Heatle is at number two, Peterson number one. But
(34:28):
here's the thing, Forbert is guaranteed in the third pair.
Then you have Ellis Petterson the defenseman. Then you have Lander,
and there's also a veteran guy they signed up here,
Olivier Joseph in there. So there's about Oh I forgot
the guy in Abersford as well. So there's four guys, Mancini,
there's probably four guys that are fighting for that right
(34:48):
shot third pair job. But man, when you're a first
round pick like Tom Lander is, you know, I think
Tom Millander is going to be given every chance to
make the Canucks open night roster, like starting this weekend
in Seattle. I expect to see a lot of good
stuff from Tom Willander.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
Well and again, uh, we'll wait and see if today.
But yesterday practice Wilander DP de paired together.
Speaker 5 (35:12):
Because their too young, you know. But Sawyer Minio was
a callops kid. I want to see what happens to
him because he's still got Western Hockey League draft eligibility. Okay,
so if he blows the doors off Rick Orlander and
and he pushes for it, that's great. That's that's I mean,
that's what you want, that's what's what you want. That's
obviously great news. I'm not going to predict that that's
(35:34):
going to be the case.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
I mean, this guy hasn't played North American Pro hockey yet, right,
I mean he played He's played in the.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
N C Double A.
Speaker 5 (35:42):
Oh sorry sorry, yeah, that's but I mean he hasn't
played in the AHLD games with Abbotsford.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
No, he hasn't.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
He hasn't really been around the Vancouver can Act. She's
been in development camp. But that's it. He played in
the NC Double A. That's my bad. I I I
make stuff on that. Yeah, but I would. I just
think that's a pretty low large jump for that dude
to go for that into the Canucks Vancouver Canucks opening
night lineup.
Speaker 5 (36:05):
I'm more than fine if he's an average eleven. He's
an eleven, that's true. He's got status, he's got he's
got pedigree, absolutely, and you know what he's He's a
big part of the Canucks future, No kidding. I'm kind
of excited to see Wilander this weekend, and also with
Elice Petterson, they got some good young defenseman on the
(36:25):
rise and Sawyer Mineo from Kamlops. Don't discount aim. He's
still got your draft eligibility left. But I'm really out
of all the kids this weekend, my eye is going
to be on Tom Lander.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
By the way we should mention because I think some
people have been wondering. Trevor Baggs of The Daily Hive.
He reported yesterday. He tweeted up yesterday a Canuck spokesperson
told him that the games will be streamed over the
weekend in Seattle. So if you're not going down to
Seattle or ever to check out the games, they will
(36:56):
be streamed probably in the on the Knucks web channel
and the website to stay tuned on that.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
They haven't announced details on that yet, but they likely
will be shortly.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
Okay, let's do some business here. Able Auctions our title
sponsor a good pals, Jeremy and everybody at Able Auctions Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
That would be next Wednesday, That's right. Able Auctions will sell.

Peter built highway tractor with only five thousand kilometers, a
twenty twenty two Ford F three point fifty pickup truck,

Speaker 1 (37:34):
There's a snowmobile on the right there. Rick, Oh love them.
Speaker 5 (37:37):

nineties when I worked in for John Charlie Lake.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Uh. It was used to be frozen and the boys
we used to go up Did you drive it? Are
you kidding me? Do you think you were passed?
Speaker 5 (38:14):
I would only go on it after a few drinks
because it would be minus. That's not good as a passenger,
not the driver. Anyways, up North we did that. We
had fun.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
Were you in like a sidecar? Like a dog that
was in Hogan's Heroes? Yes? Yes, How do you know
Hogan's Heroes? I know Hogan Zeros. Hogan's Heroes was a
great show. My grampa love that show. It was. Hogan's
Heroes was a great show. Schultz. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah,
it was a great show. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:41):
No, I've never done that. I've never done the snowmobiling.
I never snowshoot either. I know that's a lot of
people's winter activity.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
Haven't done that.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Okay, coming up next, we're gonna get to Big Ride
the Twitter. I mentioned that practice facility video.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
We will get to that before the show. We were
very interesting.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
Yes, new practice facility opening up and then National Hockey
leage with an NHL team, But we're up against it
for time, so we're gonna get to Big Ride the
Twitter Guy next. It's donnian all the team on check
time now for Big Ride the Twitter Guy. And just
a reminder before we get to Big rye is it
just me? Coming up in the next hour, send in
(39:18):

Email the team at Chechmedia dot Ca. So we've been
talking all week about we've got a backlog of photos. Oh,
we got a lot of photos from our time off
over the summer. People sending us photos and we greatly
appreciate every single one of you that that send them
(39:38):
to us to think about us. Take your merch on
the road. We really appreciate it. First of all, we
need to do and make good from yesterday. We showed
this these two photos okay, uh from Sweden.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
Uh. The submission said, went here for the summer.
Speaker 4 (39:56):
Solstice to off at midnight in Iceland, wearing Doni and
Delli sweat, then golfed in Sweden and.
Speaker 5 (40:02):
All people could talk about were the Sedines. We didn't
have a name. This is Gonzo.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
Gonzo sent this to us, so I wanted to make
good on that first of all. So thank you to
Gonzo for sending us these photos, going all that way
thinking of us.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
We appreciate it. So now we can get caught up
on a few others. Rick, do you want to take away?
You you have to detail? Yeah, we're gonna go from
Sweden to England. Yeah and uh Gregan Abbey in England
with his daughter watching Oasis and several other concerts in
front of Wembley for Oasis in an outdoor festival with
the Libertines.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
What a beautiful photo.
Speaker 5 (40:37):
So that is greg and Abbey with his daughter in
England to see Oasis and several other concerts, looking great,
great pictures. Thank you so much for thinking about us.
Speaker 4 (40:47):
I'm very jealous. I got swept up in the Oasis
mania over the summer.
Speaker 1 (40:51):
For those of you that don't know, we're talking about.
Speaker 4 (40:53):
That, they reunited Nolan, Liam put their differences aside for
a whole bunch of money and now they're best friend
the brothers again.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Everything's fine. So I got swept up.
Speaker 4 (41:02):
So I'm very jealous that that Greg and Abbey and
his daughter got to check that out. That's yeah, I'm
very jealous.
Speaker 5 (41:09):
From England to Niagara Falls, Beautiful Niagara Falls, Dan and
Heather from abmospherg the fortieth anniversary and Niagara Falls in
September with a beautiful picture. Congratulations to the both the
adonni and Dolly fans in Beautiful Niagara Falls fortieth anniversary
for Dan and Heather.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
What a beautiful force is the photo on the left
them in a barrel? Obviously what do they photo shop? Ryan? Well, No,
it's a it's like a photo booth. I get that.
You think they're going down the water like that. That's
just not a cheery Aren't they supposed to be like cheery?
Speaker 5 (41:44):
Stop we're going overboard. I've been there. It's it's it's
you've been to Niagara Falls?
Speaker 1 (41:48):
Yeah? Are you kidding me?
Speaker 4 (41:49):
I love it there. It's it's a beautiful area. Is
it as impressive as they say? Yes, yes, it's not a.
Speaker 5 (41:55):
Seven Wonder of the World though, right for that far.
But it's beautiful. And you could see behind Greg Dan,
I mean you can see behind Dan how beautiful it looks.
Speaker 4 (42:05):
So yeah, and I can see them going over the
Niagara Falls, the two of them today, Dan and Heather
happy for the absolutely, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 5 (42:13):
And we're gonna go on to the next one. No, no,
we're done with right, no more. See, this is the
thing you just want to do all photos all the time.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
I got other things.
Speaker 4 (42:20):
A big Ryan I want to get you first of all.
Is something that I experienced earlier today. This first tweet
is from Sephid Dean. He's from the USA. Today news
from FIFA Rick. FIFA says more than one and a
half million fans from two hundred and ten countries signed
up to the visa pre sale draw for World Cup tickets,
which started on Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (42:43):
That started.
Speaker 4 (42:44):
Highest demand, of course, was from the US, Mexico, Canada,
and then it goes on from there of course some
of the your more high profile countries. So yeah, so
it's available now if you are a visa card holder.
It's your first chance to get into a draw. You
don't get to buy them right now, but you go
into the lottery to buy World.
Speaker 1 (43:02):
Cup tickets for twenty twenty six.
Speaker 4 (43:04):
You can select any of the locations you want, if
you want to go to Seattle, if you get planning
traveling Toronto, somewhere else. It was a bit painful, I
will say, off the start there was a lot Derek
and I were both trying to get in, and there
was a lot of crashes.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
Off the start that a lot of people, which is understandable. Well,
I mean up multiple countries all trying to call at
the same time.
Speaker 4 (43:23):
I agree, And you know, I was kind of saying
I can't believe this off the air, but I really should,
because you're right, Rick, it's a lot of demand. No
matter how big the organization is or how many times
they've done this, it's a lot of demand on a
system to try and get a lot of people into
to then, you know, try and get into.
Speaker 5 (43:40):
You've got the whole world called exactly, Yes, you got
the whole world that's dying to get to Vancouver for
c event.
Speaker 4 (43:46):
So yeah, it go runs into the nineteenth and I
believe late September they're going to tell people whether or
not they're successfully chosen, and then from there you'll get
a window to buy ticket, your first crack to buy tickets.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
Again, this is exclusively for visa people.
Speaker 5 (44:00):
So there's a bunch of other pre sales after this
leading up to the World Cup next June, but this
was the first one to open, so a million and
a half fans.
Speaker 1 (44:06):
It'll be interesting to see, you know, there's.
Speaker 4 (44:08):
A lot of things politically in the States that I
wonder if people are rethinking whether or not they would
want to travel to the United States for the World Cup,
but I would be it's gonna be very interesting to
see how that goes.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
And of course it's gonna the lead up here, I
think is going to be just crazy and out of control. Absolutely. Okay,
next tweet here, Oh do you have the crow Nina
on my iPad? There? Can you crow us up there?
Speaker 4 (44:30):
Crow crow? You know the Crow Center fact. Oh yeah, yeah,
you're gonna love this. You're gonna hate this, I know,
but I have to show this just for you. This
is from Darren Ravel okay from Collectmedia dot Ca. He's
a Northwestern graduate in the United States. Northwestern University. Okay,
debuting this Saturday. So it's Northwestern football this Saturday against
(44:51):
Oregon debuting this Saturday. The pub brat Berger. You can
show the photo here, Nita.
Speaker 5 (44:56):
Look at this pub bratt Berger brat patties, loads of
Sauer Kraut and a.
Speaker 1 (45:05):
Volcano of beer cheese on a fresh pretzel bun. It's
gonna run you fourteen us. Yeah for that thing. I
hear Derek, I can hear him drooling from here. That's
I'm with you on this.
Speaker 5 (45:21):
Hamburger's gotta be like, you can't be eating something like
that and they're wiping all the right.
Speaker 1 (45:26):
Yes, yeah, like it's gonna be all over you. And
it's too big, it's too meg. It's just too much.
Speaker 4 (45:33):
Like I some of these outrageous foods that a lot
of baseball, especially minor league baseball. They'll debut it, you know,
try to get buzz around their summer, you know, their events.
Speaker 1 (45:43):
Some of this stuff. Though, I'm just like, who is
actually in the mood? Goes?
Speaker 4 (45:46):
You know what I'm well, I guess, yeah, Nina saying Derek,
that's true outside of Derek, Like, who is in the
mood for that?
Speaker 5 (45:53):
Too big? This is too big. And you're at a stadium.
You know, you're in the middle of a sit that's
the thing. Yeah, you guy around you, you know, and
you're trying to eat.
Speaker 4 (46:02):
This thing up, beard cheese all over you. Yeah, I'm
good on that. But I saw that this morning. I
thought of you because I know that you know.
Speaker 1 (46:10):
What, still put a fresh pretzel bun on a burger.
Speaker 4 (46:13):
Hey, I will saying no, no, no, pretzel bun is very good,
especially a hot No.
Speaker 5 (46:19):
No good. But that that's a load. That's a load
right there. That's a load. It's a load. It's too big.
It's too big. Hamburgers should not be that big. I agree,
I agree, I agree with you on that. But anyway,
debuting this, if you're in the area and you're you're
at a stadium, I know, I know you've got a
beer in your hand, you're talking, and you got this
thing like this not good?
Speaker 1 (46:39):
You got beer cheese all over you. Yeah, no, I know,
I know. I'm with you on that.
Speaker 4 (46:43):
Lots of show ahead. The second hour is upon us.
We've got DTMZ the Return of Birthdays. We missed it
yesterday because Donnie was talking about spinal tap two. Maybe
that's where he is. We're trying to find out where
either is spending his first day off. He's a spinal
tap two this weekend, right, Derek saying, Yeah, so maybe
Taylor's at a matinee showing its spinal tap too.
Speaker 1 (47:02):
Yeah, I'm open today.
Speaker 5 (47:04):
It's today, right, Today's we already saw Sewan this morning.
Speaker 4 (47:07):
You got to be throw the beach up one more time.
David White? Is it White Pine Port Moody? This has
never been there. Dolly Wall has got sources everywhere.
Speaker 1 (47:15):
Is this by Alouette Lake?
Speaker 5 (47:17):
I don't know this is likened White Pine Beach in
Port Moody?
Speaker 1 (47:22):
Yeah, so there you go.
Speaker 4 (47:23):
This is a god This is that by Westwood Plateau? No,
I think it's No, I don't think so. West was
on the top of the hill. I know there, I know, yeah,
there was right and are where Donny lives? Well, where
do you think west Wood Plateau is not? Not close
to Amore? Okay, yeah, it's cool close, but not like
right there. He's been he's been lifting weights, clearly. Yeah
(47:45):
he didn't. I golf with him in the summer. You know,
you do an arm wrestling company. He's been pounding.
Speaker 1 (47:50):
The weight absolutely so yeah, second hour ahead, d T
m Z.

Speaker 10 (49:29):
Oh yeah, okay, yeah, right, So the biggest question I
had all summer long, yeah, was why is Dolly Wald
not taking you for breakfast in Toronto? And then if
you did go to Toronto you turned your social media off?
Speaker 1 (49:46):
Rick, No, I didn't go. Didn't go.
Speaker 5 (49:49):
I I went to Los Angeles on a secrews John,
and that breaking.

is it.
Speaker 5 (50:12):
Pat Morris is ahead of you, and after Pat, when
you're in there.
Speaker 10 (50:18):
Well, Morris and I live in the same neighborhood, so
oh really we could maybe we'll maybe it could be
the three of us.
Speaker 5 (50:24):
Yeah, let's do the three of us. You're officially out
of excuses now that you said Pat Morris, who's the
agent for everybody, agent of the stars, and you and
I will have lunch.
Speaker 10 (50:34):
Okay, and and freed. But Friedman's out in the parking
lot waiting for us.
Speaker 5 (50:38):
He's out this night. I've done him twice in Toronto.
Speaker 1 (50:41):
No more. Friedman's out.
Speaker 4 (50:44):
Uh, John, A little bit of a tough turn, but
we're gonna go there. Last weekend, you dropped a special
edition of the one hundred Percent Hockey podcast talking about
the life of Ken Dryden. Just I heard you mentioned
this when you were talking about how amazing his hockey
career was, But you would argue, I think I have
(51:05):
this right, that post career might have been even more impressive.
Speaker 1 (51:09):
When it comes to Ken Dryden.
Speaker 10 (51:11):
I think his impact on the game, I think his
impact on the Toronto Maple Leafs to a certain point
might in the end be more long term impactful than
believe it or not. Winning six Stanley Cups in eight
seasons with Montreal you Know nineteen eighty three when he
wrote the game and it got published. I would argue
(51:35):
that it is the you know the in many ways
the most prolific hockey book ever written, and it described
his last season in Montreal, the you know, the seventy
eight to seventy nine season, and it also I think
took a lot of people inside the game and what
(51:55):
it meant. Kenny was a fascinating guy. I got a
chance to work alongside him at Maple Leaf Sports when
we launched a couple of TV channels. I didn't necessarily
agree with everything he did or he stood for, but
he at least had the professionalism and the conscience to
(52:16):
tell you what his thinking process was. And I think
in the last fifteen years, his work in trying to
make us more aware of what's going on in the
CTE is going to be probably more impactful than his
eight years of playing for Canadians.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
I know if Donnie was here today, he would ask
you about this. You know, he always calls you, mister television.
We've ran a lot of well not a lot, because
there's not a lot of Ken Dryden game highlights. Why
was it that the NHL didn't follow the same path
as like NFL films and have you know, dedicated a
dedicated conscious to documenting the game early on.
Speaker 10 (52:56):
Well, there were tries, But I think one of the
things that people will find amazing. For the longest time,
NFL films did not make money and the National Football
League was so prolific that it could actually absorb the
losses that NFL films created in order to build the brand.
(53:18):
And you're right, I think you know, NFL films are
a big part of what has made the NFL brand
so popular. No one in hockey was prepared to take
the risk of building that brand at a loss. And
the other thing is, particularly in the first twenty five
(53:39):
years of NFL films, you shot on one day and
then took six days to perfect it. Well, what do
you know? There was less than two hundred regular season
games in the NFL. You know that, That to me
is a big part of what the NFL has such
(54:02):
an advantage on that and they're kind of spreading themselves out,
but the fact that basically we deal with a sport
one day a week and then can enjoy it for
six while in hockey and basketball and baseball, it's it's
an ongoing process. It never stops. It's seven days a
week and you don't get a chance to take that
step back, watch what you did, Watch how the plays performed,
(54:25):
and by the time you by the time you produce it,
it's ancient history. And that's a real challenge. And that's
a difference between the between you know, the NFL and
the other three big sports in our and our continent.
Speaker 5 (54:38):
John just a horrible season for the Canucks on and
off the ice last year that had the Miller Patterson
feud the whole nine yards. What are you expecting from
the Canucks this season? Have you talked to Jim Rutherford yet?
Speaker 1 (54:50):
Uh? What's going on in terms of your thoughts about Vancouver.
Speaker 10 (54:54):
I haven't talked to Jimmy much this summer, just some
brief conversations. I I think there's a real hope and
belief that things can settle down. I mean when you
even when you look beyond the Miller Peterson thing, Rick,
I mean, how much how many times were consumed with
(55:15):
Rick Tockett's future? How much time did we did we
spend after the Four Nations break worrying about wells talk
coming back and what's going to happen there. You know,
management has had to settle things down, and I think
they're on the way to doing it. I don't think
we'll really know that until they play a regular season
(55:37):
game and Adam Foot has put his imprint on this
hockey club, but you know it ends up being the
strength of this team are still question marks. You know,
where is Petterson and all of this? Can he bounce back?
Can that your demco stay healthy? We're going to have
a soap opera for twenty four months about Quinn Hughes
(55:59):
and so those are going to be issues that in
a very very difficult media market. And I don't say
that in a negative sense. I say that in a
real sense. That's the reality. The market is a very
very high profile, difficult market.
Speaker 7 (56:15):
To deal with.
Speaker 10 (56:16):
Some people have tough time doing it, some don't. The
questions that are asked are the right questions. But that's
what's going to have to happen. And the only way,
and you know this, Rick, the only way that the
Canucks can really put everything to rest is by winning
more than losing. And we'll have to just wait and
see if that's possible.
Speaker 5 (56:35):
Yes, solves everything. Okay, let's go to Edmonton. Connor McDavid
not signed. You know what, Mitch Marner just left Toronto.
Boy oh boy. You don't want McDavid leaving Edmonton. You know,
some thought they might sign before the season. Now looks
like that's not gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (56:51):
Boy boy. A lot of tension in Edmonton concerning Connor McDavid.
Speaker 10 (56:56):
Yes, although I'm still one of those people that believes
he will sign in Edmonton, I don't know when. I
do think a lot of the angst this summer was
created when so many people just thought it was a
given that he would sign and really the only issue
would be, you know, the term. And I think the
(57:18):
pushback that everyone got was, hey, guys, let's let's you know,
let's just not make the assumption that he's a done
deal in Edmonton, because there's lots to be concerned about
with with Connor, with his family, with you know, job security.
Money's not an issue. Money will never be an issue
for Connor McDavid. But he wants to win. And will
(57:41):
the Oilers be in a position Not this year, because
I think they're going to be in a good position
to win this year, but in the in the next
few years, will they be in a position to win.
And that's that's the question I think that Connor's asking,
And he said, I think he's asking the right people.
Speaker 4 (57:55):
Speaking of money and contract, John this story out of
Minnesota with Carill Caprice reportedly turning down the richest contract
in NHL history. Bill Garans poured some cold water on
that report. But where do you see these contracts going?
Like we talked yesterday, is Hughes worth sixteen million? Is
connorworth twenty?
Speaker 1 (58:14):
Like? Where are these contracts going in five years, ten years?
In the NHL? Is there a cerily cap?
Speaker 10 (58:19):
Where's the cap going?
Speaker 5 (58:20):
Right?
Speaker 10 (58:21):
Yeah, you know it's going up, and you know business
is good in hockey. Uh and and and yet you
know the and the amount of money that we you know,
roll our eyes at. That's the sixteen million dollars for
any player that you know, the twenty percent mark that
any player can demand if they're that good of the
(58:43):
team's cap still is minute compared to what we see
in the NBA, what we see in the NFL, what
we see in Major League Baseball. And yet hockey teams
right now are thriving, The game is in good shape.
We're going to have an unbelievable season with an Olympic
tournament that will be beyond reproach. Every arrow is pointing
(59:06):
up for hockey, and that includes player salaries. And that's
why in the end, when you look back at now, gosh,
what is it twenty years that we've had a salary
cap and there's much more stability and a little revenue sharing.
That hockey's had much better shape than it was when
we had our you know, one of our many lockouts
(59:27):
in the early parts of the twenty first century.
Speaker 1 (59:31):
So make a note in your phone.
Speaker 4 (59:32):
John, September the twelfth, twenty twenty five, Dolly guaranteed breakfast
with you next time in.
Speaker 1 (59:38):
Toronto and pop mark down at Pop Morris.
Speaker 10 (59:42):
Apparently, I'm told the direct quok I wrote down was
in a couple of months, by Christmas. By Christmas, Yes,
by Christmas.
Speaker 1 (59:52):
My good book it book it book it book it.
Speaker 10 (59:55):
Oh tell you what the paparazzi will be out on masks.
Speaker 4 (01:00:00):
Thanks for this, John, and thanks for joining us for
another season. Donnie will be back next week to chat
with you. Appreciate it, John.
Speaker 10 (01:00:05):
I don't know, Donnie better watch out, you know, he
might get he might get Wally picked I'll let him know.
Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
Thanks.
Speaker 4 (01:00:12):
John cheers John Shannon from one hundred Percent Hockey podcast
and one hundred percent Canucks podcast, And I should mention
he just tweeted, by the way, he's got a podcast

Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
So he was doing a lot of Knucks stuff over
the summer. Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely Land Yes sir, yes, sir.

Pub watling Dog, just the waddling Dog. Yeah. The Watling
Dog poll question is.
Speaker 5 (01:01:45):
Which Cannucks prospect has the best chance to crack the
opening night lineup at to Ratu's leading at sixty one percent.
Tom Allander is next at fifteen percent, followed by m
Karamaki and Carlson. A little surprised at this, because here's
the deal for you know, the Canucks right now. I
got Petterson in the Heatle won two centers. If they
(01:02:06):
make a trade, if things aren't working out, they're going
to have to bring in another second line center if
things don't work out with the heatl and that could
bump a Ratu down the line. And he's still got
to perform even in the third line center spot Ryan,
He's going to get decent ice time there, so we'll
wait and see. But he is way out in front.
I thought Orlander might get a little bit more play here,
(01:02:27):
but he's not. I think Worlander is going to be
given every opportunity to make this roster big time.
Speaker 4 (01:02:35):
Yeah, and a lot of our Bayside Ocean Resort inbox
text messages have been voting for Atu Ratu as well.
Speaker 5 (01:02:43):
Again, I think it just comes down to the center depth.
I think it just comes down to the people.
Speaker 4 (01:02:47):
All right, looking at the path yea, and believing that
that's what's going to happen when it comes to at
least the opening night roster at two, Ratu is going
to be on this Cannucks lineup.
Speaker 5 (01:02:56):
Patrick Alvin tried hard in August all summer to get
the second line center.
Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
He really did. He tried, but it's expensive, that's the problem. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:03:04):
Well, the problem is they were shopping in an aisle
with a whole bunch of other people. Everybody was looking
for that exact same thing. We had all the insiders on.
You know, if I can tell you how many teams
are looking for a second line center, it was a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
It was a lot. Ryan.
Speaker 5 (01:03:18):
The problem was no sellers to no. The problem was
Canucks didn't want to give up. Well that as well,
Kara Mackie and you know, they didn't want to give
up those guys.
Speaker 1 (01:03:28):
That's the problem.
Speaker 4 (01:03:29):
So we have been talking today about the the the
Prospects Showcase coming up in Seattle this weekend in Everett,
Everett tomorrow, Seattle coming up on Sunday. Adam Kissenblatt of
The Hockey News tweeting out the Canucks are on the
rookie Canucks are on the ice in Abbotsford today for
(01:03:52):
their second practice before.
Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
Heading down to Everett.
Speaker 5 (01:03:55):
These are the lines out in Abbotsford, Rick taken away,
Uh Coots, Karamakian Alrichs and the big kid from the
Ontario Hockey League.
Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
Yah.
Speaker 5 (01:04:05):
I mean, I think a lot of people like that kid,
Ben Sharrott, local kid with bloom.
Speaker 1 (01:04:11):
Uh Patterson. Jeff Patterson's in there.
Speaker 5 (01:04:14):
Jeff Patterson, boys, he and gone from radio guy to Canucks.
You know, good job, Jeff, good job. I always knew
you had it in you. Uh Barrard Durvin. Durvin's a
Canuck draft pick, third round Coots and then you got
a couple of Vancouver giants. Yeah, Obavo poisons a local
(01:04:34):
kid Walker rescue the defense is where like we want
to keep an eye Lander and Patterson two days in
a row, Willander's the uh, you know, the first round
pick Patterson that came along really nicely last year. Really
nice mineo. The kid from Kamloops at Coryat he had
an impressive year in Absford. And then you round it
(01:04:55):
out there and the kid down at the bottom, the
goaltender from the Ontario Hockey League to night. You know,
keep an eye on him. That was a good draft
pick by the Canucks. Medvedev, I'm hearing nothing but good
things about this kid, Ryan. I'm telling you a lot
of people thought he would go in the first round
of the draft last year. I think the Canucks are
lucked out a little and got him in round number two.
(01:05:16):
But Medvedev, I'm really interested to see how he plays
this weekend in Seattle.
Speaker 1 (01:05:21):
Did you mention Parker alcost We have to mention him,
I think was his coach.
Speaker 5 (01:05:28):
Yeah, and somehow, somehow, despite that he's a local kid,
Parker Alcoss really excited to see him. And so there
you go. There's the Canucks lineup for this weekend. The
young kids getting a you know, and Coots is going
to be another one.
Speaker 1 (01:05:46):
I want to I couldn't believe Durrantz if you missed it.
Speaker 4 (01:05:49):
By the way, Thomas drants in our first hour, he
called Braden Kots a dark horse to potentially make the
opening night roster.
Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
That's that's tough because he's a he's a young kid.
Speaker 4 (01:06:00):
Yeah, he said, the right shot center they don't have
right So Kots was one of.
Speaker 5 (01:06:05):
The youngest players in the Western Hockey League last year.
He was also one of the youngest captain in the
Canadian Hockey League. And uh, I'll tell you something right
now that he's going to be a good one Coots.
But boy, he's going to be in tough to make it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:18):
I agree.
Speaker 4 (01:06:19):
I agree, And look, Thomas did say dark horse, so
let's see what happens. But I just like the fact
that there's a lot of names that we can debate
and talk about as pushing you know, at least they're there.
It's not like, well, there's you know, two guys and
there's only one spot and you know this is the lineup,
and it's it's a bit of a nice problem to have.
(01:06:40):
You have these names, you can have a debate about
who's actually going to be able to push through in
training camp of the preseason and make it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
It's more on the d of.
Speaker 4 (01:06:48):
Course with Tom Olander, I understand that, but it's just
that it's interesting to see and we'll see, Like I mean,
Seattle's got a lot of good prospects as well. They
they've read their article summary last night that they were
high on.
Speaker 1 (01:07:00):
So this list would be more impressive if the Canucks
didn't trader. Well, there's that.
Speaker 5 (01:07:04):
The first there's the picks of the twenty twenty four draft,
and the last one was in with Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
But the first two they.
Speaker 5 (01:07:10):
Didn't even you know, it was what's his name is
the door off and you know they got these guys okay,
and they had the good playoff run two rounds. But
they traded three picks in twenty twenty four, the first
second of third and I think you're seeing, especially up
forward here, not as many big names you would have
if they would have kept those free picks. Well, the
(01:07:32):
other thing you bring up all the time, Rick two
is they also shipped out JT. Miller and Bauhorvat and
they got back, you know, they didn't get back. They
got at to rat too. They never got a trade. Yeah,
but they never got a superstar made ready centerman Jacklin.
But what they got was too top four defenseman.
Speaker 4 (01:07:47):
Yep, which of course was a position to need and
now everyone is touting the Knucks defense heading into the season. Okay,
very quickly, a recap of what's happening over the weekend
in town. Tonight Lions, Red Blacks looking to avenge their
loss last week in Ottawa seventeen point blown second alflete
(01:08:08):
for the Lions. They really let that one get away.
So Red Blacks Lions tonight at BC Place.
Speaker 1 (01:08:14):
Tomorrow night.
Speaker 4 (01:08:17):
Six point thirty Philadelphia white Caps the Union, the top
team in the MLS.
Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
They'll be at BC Places.
Speaker 4 (01:08:23):
The white Caps get back in action after two weeks
off and tonight Man Cup Game number six, Salmon Bellies
have a chance to clinch it at Queen's Park Arena.
Speaker 5 (01:08:33):
Queens Park, Beautiful Park. That's where Little Ricky spent a
lot of time Queen's Park in the eighties. Salmon Belly
is looking for their twenty fifth Man Cup. Let's get
out there against six Nations. Wrap it up tonight game six,
because if they don't wrap it up tonight, Ryan, they
got to do it tomorrow. But let's go the Salmon
Bellies new S Queens Park. Get her wrapped up tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:08:55):
Okay, we're gonna go to DTMZ in a few minutes,
but we want to show this video out of Utah
with the Mammoth. I forgot they've got a team name.
Now it's not the Utah Hockey Club anymore, it's the Mammoth.
The Utah Mammoth brand spanking new practice facility has opened up.
Oh look, this is courtesy our good pal who's been
on the show before, Cole Bagley from KSL Sports in Utah.
(01:09:20):
This is the other day that the Utah their prospects
hit the ice for the first time at the practice facility.
So if you don't know, the practice facility has two
full sized NHL ice sheets. It's privately funded by Ryan
and Ashley Smith, who of course owned the Utah franchise.
Speaker 1 (01:09:41):
The quote from.
Speaker 4 (01:09:44):
General manager Bill Armstrong wasn't an interesting one. He said, quote,
to be an elite organization, you have to have an
elite training center.
Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
And we do and we are very fortunate.
Speaker 5 (01:09:57):
This is what the Canucks gotta get. So the Canucks
and UBC hell talks. We know this plans were made
fell apart with the last second. Also hearing the Canucks
have poked around the Bill Copeland Sports Center is another possibility.
It's nearby. You just get them the highway to the
Canuck players. It's right there by eight rinks. So look,
the Canucks gotta get going. I don't know how long
it's gonna take, but them and Calgary are only teams
(01:10:20):
in the NHL with out dedicated practice facilities, and Calgary's
getting one with their new rink. So the Canucks gotta
get going here.
Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
Well, and the thing is, Rick, you gotta get going, Derek,
you through the video up one more time, Like we're
just seeing.
Speaker 1 (01:10:33):
The ice sheets here.
Speaker 5 (01:10:35):
But they've got kitchens and lounges and offices in all
of this. And so my worry is, as much as
it would be good for at least the Canucks to
have something, my worry is they're going to go to
a place, throw their logo on the side of the
rink and say this is our practice rink.
Speaker 4 (01:10:52):
But it's more than that. When you look at some
of these buildings being built Utah, Settle Florida's got a Florida.
It's amazing fig practice. And the other thing is the
investment in the community. Like this is the from the
article I read out of Utah. By early twenty twenty
six community spaces at the Utah Mammas Practice Facility will
be officially open to the public. Addition to both rinks,
(01:11:13):
the community we'll have access to eight locker rooms, equipment rentals,
team store, pro shop, and other open spaces.
Speaker 1 (01:11:19):
So it's also community hub.
Speaker 4 (01:11:21):
And so again I worry that the Canucks are just
because they're just trying to bandied this problem and they
didn't years ago actually put shovels into the ground, make
the investment.
Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
I don't know the cost. By the way, on this
unacceptable for them not to have a practice. This it's
standard now.
Speaker 5 (01:11:36):
And Derek, you can run the Red Deer Rebels got
Seattle's got a nice one too.
Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
Yeah the kracket, Yeah, it's beautiful.
Speaker 5 (01:11:41):
I mean they're new and again, but they invested right
and again community, the community is involved in it.
Speaker 4 (01:11:48):
They rent the ice. This is the Red Deer Rebels
Western Hockey. They read Deer Rebels. Brent Sutter, he's invested
the money. Brent Sutter has invested the money. And that's
at the Western Hockey League level.
Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
Yeah, you know, so this is their new state of
the art dressing room and facility. They have here.
Speaker 5 (01:12:06):
So you're going to see more Western Hockey League teams
do this because their top kids are going to the
NC Double A with the NCAA's got all their brand
new facilities like this. So the Western Hockey League has
no choice. If you don't want to lose the kid
to the NC Double A, you better do what Brent
Sutter did here and invest some money and and make
your facility look like this. Good on Brent Sutter and
(01:12:28):
a red Deer for doing this.
Speaker 4 (01:12:31):
And don't get me wrong, the Canucks have recently put
a lot of money into the impressive.
Speaker 1 (01:12:35):
Absolutely, that's pretty impressive and Red Deer, good on them.
Speaker 4 (01:12:38):
The Canucks have recently put a lot of money into
renovations at Rodgers Arena downstairs, their gym.
Speaker 5 (01:12:44):
Area, the new seats right, I'm here in the new
seats at Rogers Arena almost done.
Speaker 4 (01:12:50):
Yeah, they're very very close, very nice. Very Yeah, that's great.
But unfortunately, like a practice, facility is becoming a prerequisite.
And again you see that, Ared you ta, And I
know it's easier when these newer teams come in because
they see what all these other franchises have, but it's
just it and and look at we talked about Rick
talking him referencing Philly's practice facility.
Speaker 1 (01:13:13):
So you can't tell me that's not one of the.
Speaker 5 (01:13:15):
Reasons why Rick Tackett was dying for a practice facility
in Vancouver because he was tired of get.
Speaker 1 (01:13:21):
E three going here, UBC eight ranks.
Speaker 5 (01:13:25):
It is now upon the Canucks owner to don't wait
another three four years, get it done and get it done.
Speaker 1 (01:13:32):
Yeah, absolutely, okay, coming up next?
Speaker 5 (01:13:35):
Uh oh you got I got look at this, Look
at this. BC's number one sports memorabilia gaming shop is
Pastime Sports check out, the largest selection of sports member
billy autographed items, trading cards in collectible games in Western Canada.
You have four locations Metro Town, Guilford, Mall capl on
them all largest stores in Langley. If you can't visit

Speaker 5 (01:15:28):

the video it was say it was really good.
Speaker 1 (01:15:34):

Speaker 4 (01:15:37):
It was in Kamloops last night. Rogers Arena tonight. I

Victoria over the weekend as well. So and by the way, PSA, if.
Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
You're going to the Lions game, maybe leave early.
Speaker 4 (01:15:52):
Same thing with the concert because it is going to
be very very busy around Rodgers Arena with a football
game and the concert happening. Uh, both things happening close
to each other. So I'm looking forward to it. I'm
going to the show tonight. I'm actually I'm going with
a good pal, Dominic's Elementary. So it's gonna be by
first time sitting in the brand new Rogers Arena seats.
(01:16:14):
You're going to go in the brand seats. I'm very excited.
I'm almost more excited about the seats than I am.
Brian Adams.
Speaker 5 (01:16:20):
So you've ripped Rogers so now so now new seats

But we got a sponsor. We got a sponsor sent
to us. Get Ready, get Ready, J Pack in Mission,
not Jay Patt J Pack J Pack Mission.
Speaker 4 (01:16:52):

twenty twenty two.
Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
Jennifer Hudson. Oh, this is two for two. Like what

So it's a holdover for Whistler Golf Club. Brick take

Speaker 5 (01:22:18):

Speaker 4 (01:23:00):
See I want to get this one in even though
it's about me, But I'm getting a lot of these?
Speaker 1 (01:23:04):
Is it just me?
Speaker 4 (01:23:04):
Or is Ryan using brill cream? You both both are
looking sharp today and doing a great job.
Speaker 1 (01:23:09):
Thank you very much. That is from Bruce.
Speaker 5 (01:23:11):
Before Jael came out in the eighties, it was Briill
cream everybody had to use. And I had to use
brill cream in high school because it wasn't jail.
Speaker 1 (01:23:19):
But now use dippity Do. Now I'm a Dippity do
jel guy.
Speaker 5 (01:23:23):
Actually I just bought them from save On yesterday because
my other bottle ran out. It's dippity Do all the way. Okay,
go one donde from Nanaima's ripping me.
Speaker 1 (01:23:35):
Rick.
Speaker 5 (01:23:35):
You brag about NWSS New S being the best school
in the Lower Mainland, but it obviously didn't offer any
geography classes. Uh. Mister Swawell in the eighties was our
social studies teacher. I got an a with him once
never again. But anyways, he was a former BC Live
really yeah he played for the Mister Swawell played for
the Lions I think in the sixties and then he
(01:23:56):
was our social studies teacher at NWSS, the best high
school in the Lower Mainland.
Speaker 1 (01:24:01):
How about that? This is from scott and Union Bay.
Is it just me? Or why why should the Canucks
not give Ryan Johnson a Ryan Johansson Johnson. I think
Ry Ryan.
Speaker 5 (01:24:13):
Johanson a PTO hometown boys the Center and they need one.
By the way, over the summer his grievance with the
Philadelphia Flyers was concluded. Ryan Johanson, Remember he got traded there,
didn't play there, and then it was with the PA
that's been settled. Now I wonder if he's not one
because yeah, yeah, I'm wondering about his health, Ryan Johnson Johansson,
(01:24:35):
I'm wondering about his health. I'll give his call, I'll
give his agent. Curt overheard a call out of den
versus what's going on?
Speaker 4 (01:24:41):
Ry and when it comes to PTOs, I believe you
and Thomas are both hearing the same thing that it's
probably unlikely that the Vancous Conducks to Vancouver.
Speaker 5 (01:24:49):
Canucks American Hockey League team just want to call the cup.
Give those kids a chance. Why are you gonna bring
in somebody from the outside, right, Yeah, I agree. Give
the kids at absburd who worked their ass off all
year to win. You're called a cup, gimme a chance.
Gary in the North Shore, get out there and support
the salmon bellies tonight against six nations. Must see I
(01:25:12):
think it is sold out. It is hold, it is
sold out, it is sold out, and get out there.
And by the way, the salmon bellies haven't been around
for ten twenty years. They've been around Ryan for sixty
seventy eighty ninety years. It's a proud, proud, proud Queen's Park.
It's gonna be rocking tonight and the Salmon Bellies wrapping
up against Six Nations tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:25:34):
Aaron in South Vancouver.
Speaker 5 (01:25:35):
Is it just me or I can't believe Donnie didn't
agree to take Fridays off on the condition that Rick
Andrews would drive the bus.
Speaker 1 (01:25:43):
Yeah, I'm not gonna drive the bus. I'm not a
bus driver.
Speaker 4 (01:25:46):
For those For people that don't know Rick Andrews, your
former dee I used when I first got into radio
in nineteen eighty nine.
Speaker 1 (01:25:52):
Yeah, nineteen eighty nine.
Speaker 5 (01:25:55):
I worked in Powell River, Fort Saint John, Prince George
with Task when Alberta where cars cost less. In ninety
four when the Canucks were in the finals, I was
in with Task in Alberta. But I use the name
Rick Andrews and back then in from eighty nine to
ninety four, I use that name, so obviously somebody knows
my past. I'm not going back to Rick Andrews.
Speaker 4 (01:26:17):
And if you missed it, by the way, Donnie, this
season will be off on Fridays. It'll be all Fridays,
Donnie Ana at the desk as well, So we're gonna
hang out on Fridays, you know what.
Speaker 1 (01:26:28):
That's it. We're up against the time. Oh yeah, we

want to get through.
Speaker 5 (01:26:33):

cut it on Monday.
Speaker 1 (01:26:38):

a viewer that has ties to this song.
Speaker 1 (01:27:13):
So rich it gets you hopping onself and not stopping.
Speaker 4 (01:27:18):
It's time to wrap up for at least the TV
version of the show. Time to wrap up our waddling
Dog poll question a reminder experience one of Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep, sip,
and stalk up all in one legendary spot, come and
sit and say at the dog today?
Speaker 1 (01:27:34):
All right, let's get her up the wattling dog pull. Question.
Speaker 5 (01:27:37):
Which Cannucks prospect has the best chance to crack the
opening night lineup? Hey, this is overwhelming a to Ratu's
at sixty three percent, followed by Tom Lander, then Jonathan
Lacara Macki, and then Linas Carlson at the bottom eight
hundred plus votes already. Okay, so you want to get
a few more photos you have the first? My buddy,

Thunderbirds home to Regina, six o'clock game time, future stars
of the Canadian Football League tonight. It's a busy place
the Lower Mainland and we're gonna stay with the Canadian
Football League.
Speaker 1 (01:28:19):
Look at this? Look at what about your photo? You
got first? All my photo? Good pal?
Speaker 5 (01:28:24):
Oh my pal in South Surrey, Darren? Are we getting
that up? I was I work out at Trevor Lindon's gym.
Speaker 1 (01:28:31):
Uh and here's look at this.
Speaker 5 (01:28:33):
Darren comes up to me and he's listening to Donning Dolly.
I'm in the gym and he says, I'm a big
Donning Dolly fan. This is Darren in South Surrey and
I said, let's take a pic and we can show it.
Trevor Lindon's Club sixteen out in South Surrey. I go
in there all the time. I run into Donning Dolly
fans all the time there.
Speaker 1 (01:28:51):
Love it. Does Darren complain about the doors like you do? No?
Speaker 5 (01:28:53):
No, the front door is just ridiculous. It's so it's
like the doors that keep the vaults, meaning the bank
in the vaults.
Speaker 1 (01:29:01):
It's to Trevor fix your front door. It's too heavy.
Speaker 4 (01:29:04):
Okay, so now you teased it with a CFL tie.
Speaker 5 (01:29:08):
We have a photo here, Miss Angie, Miss George Reid
and Ryder alumni Al John's July eleventh at Mosaic Stadium
in Regina. We're gonna get the photo up. Keith and
Coquitlam h Every CFL for fans should try and get
there once. Keith, you are right, one of the greatest

also alumni Al Johns. What a great picture, two great pictures.
Thank you Keith from Coquitlam for that.
Speaker 1 (01:29:43):
I can't imagine if the Lions had a stadium like
that here.
Speaker 5 (01:29:46):
They got to get going. White capsfect that's just build
one for the white Caps. Lions go there, get it done,
move on it all right?
Speaker 1 (01:29:54):
Where are we going now? We don't have enough time.
What do I know? I I know others. We'll carry
the others over to next week.
Speaker 4 (01:30:04):
