J T.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Miller, yes remember him, has been named the twenty ninth
captain of the New York Rangers.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Wow number eight in your Lucky Number program. Yeah, I'm
not surprised, Darnie, I'm not surprised.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
Well, if you look on Twitter, Ranger fans are wondering
what Adam Fox's reaction would be. Some people thinking Vincent
Trochek would have been a candidate as well, are Tammy
panerin as well.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
But it goes to j. T. Miller.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
What an impression he has made clearly on the Rangers
coaching staff and management to be named after a short
period of time back with the Rangers captain of the team.
Thirty two games for JT. Miller in all after the
trade in late January from the Canucks back to the Rangers.
Remember he started his career with New York thirty two games,
(01:54):
thirteen goals, twenty two assists, thirty five points. In those
thirty two games, seventy six hits. They were impressed by.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
Him absolutely, whether you like or hate Miller, and there's
people in both camps, Donnie, that.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
You cannot deny.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
This guy cares, he hates to lose. He's got hard skill.
You mentioned the seventy six hits and thirty two games.
Where's the hard skill for the Canucks in their top
six other than Nevanna Kaine. That's important to people. Donnie hardskill,
drags the team into the fight, plays with passion, defends
his teammates. He did all that in Vancouver, So why
do they trade him? WHOA, that's a loaded question. It's
(02:33):
not good when you trade a guy and he ends
up in a captain and another team, because you're losing leadership.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
You can't have enough leaders.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
Dave King, the old great Canadian coach, used to say,
you can't have enough culture carriers in your dressing room.
And I know before you throw it in my face,
Miller Peterson, they were both blamed. They were both to blame.
That whole season last year is on those two guys.
You know, two guys that couldn't get along, screwed up
the dressing room. That's on both of them, Donnie, not
(03:02):
on one, but on both of them.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
And yet locker room troubles, dressing room troubles in Vancouver.
But the Rangers don't care about that. Apparently he's been
on his best behavior. Yeah he was with the Rangers.
Speaker 5 (03:15):
Yeah, and they named him captain knowing what he did
in Vancouver, well, not what he did, but what Patterson
and Miller went through. They did before the Rangers traded
for JT. Miller at the deadline. You know what they
did done. They did a ton of research in the
Miller Peterson. They did a ton of research in the Miller.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
What he did with the Canucks was so bad, that's it.
Why would the Rangers look into that and then say,
you know what.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
There's our captain. That's it.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Not only did they interest, you know what, Look, we
can speculate all we want. Nobody really knows at this
point what happened other than the people in the guys
well and people in that room know exactly what happened.
I can't wait to I'm sorry, there's a part of
me I can't wait to hear exactly what happened. You know,
was it so bad that Miller Miller had had to
(04:03):
go and look this all? I don't care what anybody says.
So many of the Cannucks problems and maybe the trade
for Miller, the Miller trade works out for the Canucks.
I'm not sure, right Mancini Heatl Betterson on defense?
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Will you know?
Speaker 4 (04:21):
We'll we'll see. But the biggest problem with the Cannucks
is least Peterson's contract. Yeah, I mean, they traded, they
traded the better, the better player in my opinion, and
it was the better leader and the way better contract.
If it was between those two, they couldn't get. They
were trying to move both well. They couldn't trade Elias Peterson.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
They were close, they were close to Carolina, and then
Carolina shifted towards Ranton and then it was over.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Here's another one.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
Easier to trade Miller though, given the contract.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
And here's another one for you.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
If you asked Rick Talkett privately, if you said, Rick,
you know, just a cup of tea?
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Privately you said, I'm sure I'd have a cup of tea.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
What's wrong with having a cup of tea? You don't
like tea? I like t I loved TA. I grew
up on tea. I grew up on Nestley Is it
was it? What was the tea? The big one, the
famous one? That's Tedley? What Lipton? Lipton? Yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
Anyways, if you're having tea with talk It and you
ask him privately, who do you want to keep? Who
do you want to keep? Peterson or Miller? One hundred percent?
He says Miller. You know why, because that was a
heart and soul guy would be.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
You defended Peterson last year.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
Stop and don like no talk. He was Taking's type
of guy, heart and soul, hard scale. He could fight,
he could the body checks. Seventy six and thirty two
games last year with the Rangers. He was a tacket
guy and it killed talking.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
They traded him.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
It just it's let's get to the pole question. If
you don't mind, Ryan, it's it's hard to take. I
think for a lot of Knok fans, and look, we didn't.
We'll find out the story, yeah, and then maybe opinions
change after that. But I mentioned I think he's the
better player, the better leader, the better contract, and now
he's being celebrated, being rewarded by one of hockey's most
(06:08):
iconic franchises. It's hard to take. Wattling Dog poll question
experience one of Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep, sip, and stock up,
all in one legendary spot. Come sit and stay at
the dog today, Ryan, get her up the Waddling Dog
pole question. Does it bother you that the Rangers named JT.
(06:29):
Miller the captain today? Are resounding eighty nine percent say no,
eleven percent say yes. Seven hundred and sixty two votes.
It's hopping, it's popping. It's not stopping, but people they
want to put everything behind them. I think Vancouver fans
I get that. This is news today and it's just interesting.
Eight months after he gets traded, he gets named captain
(06:50):
of the New York Rangers. And I know they make mistakes.
You can ask Rangers fans about that, but it is interesting.
He's a former Canuck. He's a polarizing figure.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
People still care about him, but I think a lot
of people do want.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
To put the whole episode. You can't do much about it,
put it behind him. I get that, but it is
a topic a discussion.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
It is.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
But I will tell you one thing. You can be
in fan and Vancouver or not like Miller.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Hockey.
Speaker 5 (07:14):
People respect this guy. The Americans at the Four Nations, Donny,
the players and management loved Miller at the Four Nations.
He'll be on that Olympic team again for the Americans.
Count on it. I'll be shocked if he isn't. He's
a good bottom six guy for them, brings leadership, all
that nine yards.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Hockey.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
People love this guy. Hockey people love what he brings.
Does he get too cranky? Did he have some moments
bad body language? Remember Winnipeg, The goalie Delia and remember that,
you know, slam and a stick. We've seen some of that.
He gets hot, he's got a little Ryan Kessler in him.
He's cranky, but that's okay. There's no perfect there's no
perfect hockey player. He did more good than Vancouver in
(07:53):
his six seven years than he did bad.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Again, this story is still to be told about what
exactly happened between those two players, so not knowing exactly
what it was, this is just very interesting and I'm
sure frustrating. Well maybe not for all Canduck fans given
the results of the poll, but it is. It is
really interesting that legendary and an iconic franchise like the
(08:18):
Rangers has given this guy the sea. Not the first
ex Canuck to be named captain of the Rangers, Mark
Messi when he went back to the Rangers named captain.
Some other Ranger captains with Vancouver connections. Barry Beck was
a short period of time with the Rangers.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
And going way back, Andy Bathgate and the former captain
of the New York Rangers. Of course, he.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Played in the Western Hockey Leage, the old Western Hockey
League with the Canucks. Ryan, I know you care about.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
That history, how are you todaying he doesn't know who
Barry Beck is. I guarantee you he doesn't know who
Barry Beck is.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Definitely not. Andy Bath gives it's okay.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
His a brother's a maasst fan in the show Barry
Beck's brother, and Surrey watches Murray great watch that player.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Yeah, and Barry's in Japan right now. Yeah, y'all are
doing a lot of revisionist history with JT. Miller today,
and that's what's wrong with that.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
I think we're forgetting how often on this show we
talked about how.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Bad no you did? You did bad body language?
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Yeah, oh, I hated his body language.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
The only time things were smooth with JT. Miller here
was the one season the team was really good two
years ago.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
So, and by the way, most of his time here,
most of his time here, he had a letter on
his sweater.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Yeah. He had one hundred points one year and then
he had ninety nine points. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
He also had over a team. He had over a
point of per game in Vancouver in six years. Ryan,
but Rick you he brought it. Yeah, he brought it.
And how many different coaches dealt with an issue with
him in part and another player Travis Green loved him,
Bruce Bunder loved him.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Rick Talckett loved him. You can say Rick Talckett loved him.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
Ultimately, in his final year here, he got benched by
Rick Talckett.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
There was a personal leave out of that.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
You do have one of his final home games here,
Rick Talkeett said something to him.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
He got up and went to the other end of
the bench.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Passions passion, I mean, sure you keep Petterson over Miller.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Honestly, I was fully.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
At the point that they both should have gone. You
can't get why is it what your center right position?
Then what's the center position right now? At least got one.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Mister rebuild here, I would have been okay with that
body language. I criticized the one. The thing that bothered
me more about J. T. Miller, and he's being criticized
for this to some extent in New York is and
I look, I've criticized the leis Petterson.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
He does this well is when he gave up on
back checks.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
I hated, I mean I I I hated that no
perfect production was there. And I think all things being equal,
which they're not, but if they were, it's it's Miller
over Petterson any day and that that this debate will
go on forever.
Speaker 5 (11:01):
Sure, I just think I think there was a lot
of things that just got pushed aside. The way it
ended here was not good. He was supposed to be
a leader, and I'm sorry there was a lot of
ways he quit on.
Speaker 4 (11:16):
The Then why would the range background and say, you
know what.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
We're slapper. That's that's Chris Drew.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Its interesting, that's christ He talked to the leadership group,
Chris jury. You think they make a decision like this
without talking to them, But that's there, that's their decision.
I mean, that's that they They've done it. We'll see
if it works out. I can guarantee you by Christmas
we have we have some kind of evidence that Gt.
Mother is cranky and unhappy and oh this Captain c
(11:47):
Lass in New York.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Well, it will be a really big deal if and
it's a big if. If Peterson gets his game back,
then that makes it even And if combined with Miller
not not living up to the sea in New York,
that would that would be huge. Absolutely, I'm betting against
that though.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
The one thing that we had to tape with Jamie
mcclennan today and that's coming up at eleven. And I
think he mentioned it with you, guys. I think you
mentioned it too, Donny. I am a little surprised. I
know he's now a two time ranger, but like Adam Fox,
isn't your captain.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
I mentioned him? Yeah, like he had. I mean, he's
a Noros Trophy winner. Yeah, like I I don't know.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
I mean again, maybe Fox said I don't want anything
to do with it as possible, Like I say, I
just when he when everything was smooth and fine.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Hell of a player, especially in the playoffs, Hell of
a player.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
The way he went out here, you know, you bring
up La Loongo and my contract sucks and everything.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
The way Miller went out here is right alongside that.
You can debate the all you want.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
You obviously you obviously and you're you're the same way
you're in love with Elias Petterson, and I get all.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
I said, I think I should have traded both guys.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Does a leader show up after signing a massive contract,
show up a training camp last season out of shape?
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Okay, no chance. Okay.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
Miller was supposed to be a leader too, and he
was doing nothing to help that relationship. So if you
want to pin it all on Petterson, I don't really
understand how.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
I don't know what the story is between and we
hear things. You hear things between Pederson and Miller, but
this crap about they couldn't coexist depending on what it is,
and I stand to be corrected. The two players couldn't
get along, and oh my gosh, they'll never win with
the two of them.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
I grew up. I'll go back in.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
Time, give you a little sound effect that that's fine.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
I don't have it. Unfortunately, I grew up.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
With the Oakland A's being the team in Major League
Baseball championship after championship in the seventies, the Swinging A's,
Charlie o'finley, Vita Blue, Reggie Jackson, Raley Fingers. They hated
each other, They couldn't stand each other. It was well documented,
thank you, And yet they want title after title after
(14:02):
title and the.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Fact these two couldn't get along.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
Come on, but anyways, too high profile Canadian market. You
think you're gonna have twenty one angels in a dressing room, right,
you're not. I know, I don't know what you're but
you're making my point.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Kind of again, that was evolving two people. They couldn't
go assist both of them.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
Or is it on management that they first of all
that the contract is just awful with petis.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
I don't care what anybody says. Okay, I gotta know
why you're laughing. Quit saying that you don't know that
you scantering your one of the deal done? Rick?
Speaker 5 (14:37):
If he gets one hundred points, are you gonna say
that at the end of the year that it was
a bad contract?
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Make you bet he does it? Why you don't know
that you know?
Speaker 4 (14:44):
Okay, So the cont it's not a bad contract. It's
trying to know that it started, it starts now, It
starts now, it starts with him not showing up in shape.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
Well he does, new contract starts this year. Let's see
how it doesn't.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
No, it's last year, Rick, he was seven years left.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
Yeah, seven years left. But listen, there goes your argument
out the door.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
And a second, the eleven six started last year. Yes, Yes,
that's what I'm so, you're mister in touch with the
ak Yes, it started last year. So what are you saying.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
I'm saying take it. Take a little bit of time
before you say, and it's a bad contract on.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Well here one didn't go all that great. You're all
over them for the bad contract. You're all over him
for the bad contract.
Speaker 5 (15:29):
Don't you can say, let him play some hockey into
the contract before?
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Yeah he spent a year. Yeah, okay, Well you could
say management. I'm sorry, it's on the two guys.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
How many coaches coaches, three coaches, two sets of management
team because Benning brought in Miller, Peterson was here, then
they changed management, like Rutherford. How many times did Rutherford
say this is with a long long standing managed on
the two management because of the contract and because they
couldn't they couldn't rectify this thing.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
I go back to like, but again the two common
denominators are the players. Then change codes back to the
Oakland a's in the cell? How did that work? Like?
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Like they hated each other, They didn't they didn't want
to go together on the team bus back in the
day that those guys, these two can't. One asked out.
Miller forced his way out, got out. That's a leader.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
I guess all right.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
You know what though, he showed up to camp and shape.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Yeah, and then things got tough and he went I
went out of here. DTMZ.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
Is it just me coming up in the eleven o'clock hour?
Uh noodles. Jamie mcclennan, he's got some things to say
about Miller being named captain of the New York Rangers.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
Just after eleven o'clock.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
Big ride the Twitter guy coming up later this hour
at Rosken and join us bottom of the hour. Okay,
we recorded an interview with Rosberg warning if we shouldn't
run it tomorrow in step, but we're gonna run it

New York Rangers. But Patrick Johnson of the Province, author

Me out when talk talking about players with BC connections
that have been named Captain of the Rangers. J. T. Miller,
former Caduck, Andy Bathcave, former Westernly Canuck, Barry Beck, former
Newswinster Brue. Also Ron Greschner I forgot about. Also former
New West Brute who used to be married to Carol
(18:38):
Alton Carroll model, supermodel model. She was in the movie
Private Parts with Howard Stearn, which.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Is under great movie one of Ryan's favorite. Let's get
Let's get to UH.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
Patrick Johnson from the Province UH co author along with
Peter Leach of the new book Gino the fighting spirit
of Gino. Oh, Jack Patrick, thanks for doing this, sir,
How are you great?
Speaker 7 (19:05):
Guys there, I'll just hold that up. I'll hold the
entire time. People understand why I'm here.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
Yeah, and I understand that you're going to send that
copy to us and we appreciate that.
Speaker 7 (19:17):
Yeah, I mean as Ricky emailed the publisher back because
you know you did.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
I did. Oh my gosh, I'm a big reader. I
want that book. Hey.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Before we get to the book, Patrick, and we will
get to the book, but just your reaction JT. You
cover the canucs JT. Miller being named captain of the
New York Rangers. I think it took a lot of
people by surprise today in this market.
Speaker 8 (19:39):
Ah.
Speaker 7 (19:39):
I mean I guess it would. I mean it was
always an option. I suppose there's a reason JT. War
letter on his sweater, you know, like there's an emotional
core to the guy. We know that obviously fans A
lot of fans responded to the emotion we saw on
the ice and the skill we saw on the ice.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (19:59):
Listen, he is a guy that will tell you, even
without getting into what what did or didn't happen last year,
and that stole a lot of that behind a curtain.
He was a guy that would tell you that he
knew that he stepped over the line, that his emotions
would run too hot.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (20:17):
And yet he was also a guy that you know,
that cares about the game. And so it's a choice.
It's gonna be a challenging choice, there's absolutely no doubt
about that. But he's a guy that listen, it's a room.
(20:39):
That's a deliberate choice. I mean, there's a room. There's
plenty of options in that room. Right, you got Paring,
you tro check out Adam Fox. We'll see how it goes.
The main thing I find that I want find myself
wondering about is you know, in that moment when he
would get frustrated with a teammate, you know, how is
he gonna handle it? He's the captain now, he's not
just a teammate anymore. And so'll see how this goes.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
The best way to put it.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
The book, Patrick, what do you cover in the book,
Gino just in time for Christmas?
Speaker 7 (21:09):
Well, I mean it's it's actually an interesting way to
bridge into this because one of the things that stood
out in this process was finding out what a loved teammate.
He truly was. And you guys obviously covered the team
then and knew what was going on around there. But
you know, when you talk to Trevor Lindon, and you
talk to Jeff Cornwall, you talk Cliff Ronnie, these are
(21:32):
guys that light up when they talk about what Gino
meant to that team. One of the cases I make
early on, and Trevor agreed with me, was that you
look at his draft and why he was drafted, then
what pac quinn was looking for in drafting him. This
was a player that was big, who could skate, who
(21:55):
he you know, wasn't just going to be a tough
I mean obviously was going to drop the gloves and
that was his primary job, but he wanted a guy
that would would make the canucksus of identity into something
bigger than they being. You know, he takes over in
eighty seven, the Drawn flies to the Coliseum. Team's too small,
doesn't have enough skill. Obviously there's a lot of heart
(22:16):
and Stan Smeel and a few other guys, but it
needs to be bigger. And Gino getting drafted and then
making the team essentially, you know, three four months later,
becomes the beginning of the new era. We look so
much to that big trade in March ninety one, but
Gino coming in changes the ethos and the mentality that
(22:38):
team in a way that that ninety that trade solidifies.
But it's Gino. It really starts moving in the direction
of that team that almost wins the Stanley Cup in
ninety four. So that's a big thing in there. There's
the team in element, you know. Learning about his personal
life obviously, I mean we've written a book, but the
guy was a big reader, you know, and that's one
of the stories. There's a story I tell him somewhat
(23:01):
famously about which one is Saddam. You know that there
was a fan in January ninety one holding a sign
up in the stands that on the jets and said,
you know, Gino's tougher, Gino's tougher than Saddam. And you know,
this is like the eve of the bombing of Iraq,
and Gino nudges stands smeel in the ribs and says
which one Saddam. Well, maybe people didn't know at the time,
(23:22):
was with a huge grin on his face. It was
taken by reporters at the time as being Oh, this
guy doesn't know anything, he's a country bumpkin. But I
asked Steamer about it, and Stan just said, no, no, no,
he knew, he knew, And so this was sort of
a prosona Gino would plan. But you know, Gino, you
couldn't pull Gino. If Gino sat down at the breakfast
table and there was a newspaper on it, you couldn't
pull him away. And I talked to his good friend
(23:45):
Andy to watch it's itchy, you know ITCHI be like,
you couldn't get him doing anything else. Donald Adett talked
about being his neighbor when they were when they were
in junior together in La Valle. You couldn't Gino had
a newspaper. You couldn't get him to do He had
to finish the newspaper. Like this is a guy that
knew how the world worked and was a great influence
on it, you know. I mean he became this important
indigenous leader, quietly important in digital leader. I mean, we
(24:08):
know him Peter, like Peter was a wonderful co author,
obviously his best friend. In the last ten years of
his life, he and Peter got together doing a lot
of sort of youth leadership stuff. But that built itself
into Geno spending time with people like Phil Fontaine, going
to meet the Pope, you know, trying to get out
an apology for residential schools. His own family obviously coming
(24:29):
out of that story. His father went to residential school
because his dad was killed by Nazis fighting Nazis in Germany,
I mean are in France. I mean the story. The
layers to Geno's story were astounding. It was I'm so
amazed by this journey I went on, and the you know,
the bumps in later life with his health, his mental health,
(24:50):
his heart. He died of a genetic heart condition. Talking
to a couple of his kids about Gino as a dad,
Gino meant really well as a dad, but he wasn't
perfect from a dad kids six different months, talked to
a couple of months like it was. He was a fascinating,
nuanced person. And that's the sad part for me was
I didn't get to know this guy personally more him
(25:13):
telling his own story would have been so much better.
But I'm pretty proud of what Peter and I were
able to pull together.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
One of the amazing things that Gino not as a
media guy as a fan was his relationship with Pavel Burrey.
And when you dug into that, what did you find
out about Gino and Burray and why they were such
good friends and well how they became you know, united
so much.
Speaker 7 (25:35):
Well, I mean I talked to Pavel. I mean that's
an example of how much this project meant to his teammates.
Pavel wanted to speak and we talked a lot about
just the sort of the two outsides. It is a
story that part of the story has been told, I
think fairly often. You know, the two outsiders. You know,
Geno coming from a small indigenous community in Quebec, Pavel
coming from a huge city and a totally different culture
(26:00):
coming here. Peter Peter tells us, I mean it's in
our book, so the story is is our art. But
you know, Gino had once told Peter a story about
very early on, you know, Pavel almost from the start.
I think we all know this now that Pavel almost
from the start frustrated about contract stuff, frustrated about sort
of terms of transfer and things like this and whatnot.
(26:23):
There there was an issue early on about sort of
the value of his contract or something that had come
up and so postgame he goes and talks I guess
to pac Win and leaves frustrated, and Gino basically saw
a frustrated Palo coming on the wall. Pawell basically punches
the wall and Gino looks at it and says, next time,
(26:43):
doing it like you mean it. And from that moment on,
it seems clear that Pavel said, Oh, this isn't this
isn't just a guy who's helping me in practice. This
is the person that maybe I could talk to a
little bit. And and that's something Pawla talked about, you know,
he said, this was a guy that he we would
just we were two young guys. I mean, that's part of
it too, Like they were two younger guys. There were
a number of young guys on that team, but they
(27:04):
were two the young guys and they would spend time
with each other. You know, Gino Gina was so loyal
to people who were loyal to him, and he would
talk to everybody. There's a story I relate early on
about myself, like my second season, so this is twenty nineteen,
six years ago, early on in the season, I'm coming
(27:27):
up out of the elevator at Rogers arena go and
turn down the hall to go to the press box,
and Gino and actually Peter are coming the other way,
and and that sort of split second. I mean, I
think everyone maybe experiences, but you know, it feels like
it's drawn out. You think all these things all at once. Okay,
you know there's Geno. Make sure you remind hey, you
know Patrick Johns blah blah blah, to introduce myself, to
remind who I was, and before I could even say anything, Oh, Patrick,
(27:50):
so great to see you. And Gina was like this
with everybody. He was always looking to meet people, always
looking to find out what was going on, and in
Pavel he found the perfect buddy. They loved doing stuff together.
They've going out for dinner. Ye Gino didn't know how
to cook, but he loved to eat, and they would
go out for dinner's rund. I mean, people remember this.
They would go around town, they were they were local celebrities,
(28:12):
and they just found something in common. They appreciated each other.
They wouldn't press each other on whether they didn't want
to get pressed on.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
It was just a.
Speaker 7 (28:24):
Very unique friendship that so few of us, truly, I think,
get in life. And they had it and it was.
It was a tremendous thing. And yeah, like as everyone
always said, you know, here's the tough guy and the superstar.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
It was.
Speaker 7 (28:36):
It was an odd couple, but it worked better than
anything I think ever could be imagined.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
And Patrick were running out of time here, so very
quickly off the subject. You've also written a column and
we'll talk more about the book later. You've also written
a column on Canucks management. Oh yeah, best guess what
do you think will happen with Roth Theford Alvin if
the Canucks have another season like last season?
Speaker 7 (29:04):
Well, I mean it's no surprise. This is year four, right,
like is this year five? I can't even remember anymore.
But I pointed out in the past if you look
at essentially how every every group in charge here under
this ownership group, they've kind of gotten four years and
then things have gotten ay wired year four and some
guys have held on for a while, and some guys
(29:24):
have left. And when you've been say Mike Gillis or
Trevor Linnen and youster said no, this is not what
we're going to do. This is what we're going to do.
I'm in charge. That went in a direction where those
guys didn't work there anymore. So listen, the plan last
year blew up in their faces. Nobody planned for the
split that happened. They believe this is a team that
(29:45):
we can have JT. Miller and Eleas Petterson as the leaders.
And JT. Miller has now gone and Peterson had a
terrible season as we know, So it's all on that.
Like if they find a way to be in the
playoff picture and you look at the division and they
should the fourth place team, but if they're not headed
towards the playoffs for Christmas, I mean, I had it.
(30:06):
Like I wrote in the column, I talked to a
source who knows these things pretty well, and he's like,
I think, I think we're gonna start hearing a lot
of noise about what's going on in management. It's a
big pressure. I mean, we've been talking so much about
pressure on Patterson to perform and what's gonna happen with
when he Hughes and Ken Thatcher Demko come back. But
I think it is important to recognize that there's guys
picking the players and in the end, the acts falls
(30:28):
on them. If this team isn't winning.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Hold the book up again, it's called Gino The Fighting
Spirit of Gino Ojak. Patrick Johnson co author along with
Peter Leech, Gino's good friend.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
Patrick. Thanks for this.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
Thanks guys, appreciate Patrick Johnson again. The book Gino The
Fighting Spirit of Gino Wichick, of course, also writes for
the Province quick story Before we go to break, Gino Ojic.
He talked, Patrick talked about how.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
Smart he was. Yeah, he was.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
NHL back in the nineties changed divisions at sports Page.
We decided to a story to see if the players
could name the teams in each division.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
Yeah. The only guy who got all the all you
know was a gno Ojack. He was smart, smart guy.
He was.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
Okay, a break and we'll update the pole question next, Donnie,
Oh prom me, Yeah, that's right. Sorry, we will not
update the poll question.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
We're gonna deal with.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
We're gonna talk with Ross Tucker interview we have recorded
before the show, Ross Tucker of the Ross Tucker Football Podcast.
Speaker 1 (31:26):

Speaker 4 (32:20):
Ross Tucker standing by an all of our guests today
brought to you by Able Auctions, Ableauctions dot CA A
Ross Tucker from the Ross Tucker Football Podcast, CBA Sports
and Westwood One.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
Ross thanks for doing this, sir.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
How are you?
Speaker 9 (32:35):
I am fantastic. I feel like I need to know
more about Able Auctions, though.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Tell me about them.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
The greatest company in the world. They are a title sponsor.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Okay, good guys.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
If you're if your business goes out of business, they'll
sell all your all your equipment, your merchandise for you.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
Oh, okay, that's good. The nose. They can help sell
all your stuff, all right, I like it. I like it.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
There you go, and like a title sponsor.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
They've been with us since day one and way back
to our radio days.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
We love those guys. Okay, Ross Raiders.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
Lose to the Charges twenty to nine away from the field,
and I know it's not against NFL rules, I guess,
but it just looks weird seeing Tom Brady in the
Raiders booth.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
What's your opinion of that?
Speaker 9 (33:23):
Well, first of all, I kind of feel like it
looks weird seeing any owner in the coach's booth, looks
weird seeing anybody in a suit in the coach's booth.
And I guess I'm just a little bit surprised that
they did that, you know, knowing that there's already some
concern and or consternation regarding the conflict of interest or
(33:50):
supposed conflict of interest. I guess, depending on your perspective,
I'm a little bit surprised that they were that open
about it, having him in the coaching booth for a
game like that, especially, I think the Raiders are going
to be playing a couple of teams coming up the
next few weeks, that right after Brady calls their game.
(34:14):
So that creates a really really interesting dynamic. Now, I'll
be curious to hear about how forthcoming, you know, like
the Bears, for example, are in their upcoming production meetings,
given the fact that we now know that Brady talks
to the Raiders coaches two or three times a week
(34:35):
at least, and is you know, intimately involved with what
they're doing.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
Yeah, I agree, okay, in that game, Chargers over the Raiders,
like I say, twenty to nine, So the Chargers, I
almost said, San Diego there the Chargers.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
Now too and zero.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
Are you a believer in Justin Herbert and the LA Chargers?
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Well, so that's a good question.
Speaker 9 (34:58):
I've always been a believer in just Herbert, but the
fact has been he has not played his best, or
at least as well as they needed him.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
To when the moments have been the biggest. Right.
Speaker 9 (35:10):
If you look at him, he kind of looks like
he's out of Central casting, right, And he's like good
looking young man, great hair.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
I don't know if you guys have ever seen him.
He's huge, He's like six six two forty.
Speaker 9 (35:22):
He runs well, he's fast when he throws the ball,
it's like Carson Palmer, Troy Aikman, it just snaps out
of his hand. I mean, it's really it's really what
you're looking for.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (35:35):
And unfortunately they sat for a lot of injuries every year,
you know, Rashaun Slater, they're all pro left tackles done
for the year. Khalil Mack got hurt. So kind of
feels like a lot of these other Charger seasons, to
be honest with you, where they have a good team,
they do some positive things. Will it be enough, especially
with these guys getting hurt.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (35:56):
I mean, I think it seems and feels a bit
better this year than maybe recent years. But you know,
they put them in the same categories, like like, no
one's gonna believe the Bills and the Ravens are gonna
get to the super Bowl until they actually do it.
No one's gonna believe that the Texans take the next
step to get to the conference championship game until they
(36:18):
do it. No one's gonna believe, quite frankly, that the
Chargers will win a playoff game until they do it.
It feels like a lot of these teams, maybe in
particular in the AFC are like running on a treadmill,
you know, Like, I don't know if if they're gaining
ground that way or that way. They're just kind of
staying on the same pace.
Speaker 5 (36:38):
Hey, ross the Seahawks, you know what, they lose a
close one week one, going to Pittsburgh, big win, new
offensive coordinator, six changes on offense. What about Sam Darnold
this week as opposed to last week?
Speaker 3 (36:49):
He was much better, much better. Now.
Speaker 9 (36:52):
I will say this, I'm a little bit perplexed as
to how the Steelers defense is looking this bad. These
first company NBA Justin Fields looked like an MVP candidate.
They let Breis Hall rush for over one hundred yards
against him. And then obviously the Seahawks had tremendous success
as well. I don't know what's going on with Pittsburgh's defense,
(37:13):
but if you're a Hawks fan, you gotta feel a
lot better this week than you did last week, right,
I mean, at least they not only won a game,
but they looked better on the offensive side of the ball.
Because I think after Week one, people certainly and maybe
rightfully so, had some legitimate concerns as it relates to
(37:35):
what they had seen from Sam Darnold and the offense.
My biggest thing is, like, I am fascinated by this
thing where the Seahawks win every road game but lose
every home game.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
Now, I have no explanation for that. I would love
to hear some explanation from someone.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Yeah, their home record not great.
Speaker 5 (37:52):
Hey, Daniel Jones struggle with the Giants for so many years.
He's got the Colts at two to zero. They have
not punted in the first two games. Where did this
guy come from? Can he keep it up?
Speaker 9 (38:04):
Hold on one second, Donnie, can you pronounce the word
r E.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
C O R D?
Speaker 1 (38:10):
Please record record record record?
Speaker 9 (38:14):
I said, Donnie, not you, Rick, Donnie, record record record,
And Donnie said it correctly. He said record. I'll let
a lot of this Canadian stuff go since it's your
show when it's on in Canada.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
But record Tonal record.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Yeah, record, that's not they do not.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
That's even nge for us Ross Ross, it's even strange. Record.
What's okay? What's the big record?
Speaker 8 (38:43):
Now?
Speaker 9 (38:43):
The deal is Rick, You're representing an entire region, an
entire country, Okay, Okay, record is Columbia, Vancouver.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
I love a lot of the.
Speaker 9 (38:55):
You know, a lot of the way that you guys
say a bunch of things. I think you're utter in
some way. But you know, organization. I kind of love organization.
But record no, I'm not letting that fly.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
That's terrible. Rick says it right, there's no way.
Speaker 9 (39:14):
The greatest producer in Canada says record no way.
Speaker 5 (39:19):
Ryan, he says it like that, no record, record, record, record.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
No record. I gotta cut it out. I gotta cut
it out. Ross, take it to the bank. Take it.
That was the questionstracts me from.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
What even the questions supposed to do.
Speaker 9 (39:39):
When you're making up pronunciations, it's not even the Canadian thing.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
Nobody says record nobody.
Speaker 9 (39:46):
If you say record and you have ricks back, hit
me up on social media at Ross Tucker, NFL or
you know what, you should feel so bad about yourself
that you should get a my front page story dot
com for yourself. If you're the type of person that
goes around life saying record, I.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Mean, are you kidding me?
Speaker 3 (40:05):
Now? The Seahawks have a one.
Speaker 9 (40:07):
To one record record that sounds like a fun sport
to watch.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
I'm never saying the record record will be after this
game with you again.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
I'm never saying a record again with you again, Daniel Jones?
Speaker 1 (40:17):
What the heck's going on? He's good? He lights out, Yeah.
Speaker 9 (40:21):
He's Good's this is a good question, Rick, because yours
truly will be on the CBS call for Colts Titans
on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
So I've been studying the Colts. He looks really good.
Speaker 9 (40:35):
I mean they did a lot of things that aren't
good for the Giants in recent years, you know, losing
games and all that stuff, but it's got to be
especially bad Sakuon leaves.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
Yeah, and the first year is the offensive player of
the year. I mean, if we voted on it right now,
it probably.
Speaker 9 (40:51):
Daniel Jones for this year, which there's a lot of
football to be played.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
But he looks like a great fit in Shane s
Titans off.
Speaker 9 (41:00):
Clearly he's got He's got a much better old line
and skill guys around him.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
I mean, it's funny how that works, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (41:07):
Hey, Russ former offensive lineman. What goes through your mind
when you see Cowboys guard Tyler Smith extend ninety six
million dollars over four years?
Speaker 1 (41:19):
Goes through your mind?
Speaker 3 (41:19):
A couple thoughts.
Speaker 9 (41:20):
One is it would have been really really cool if
I had been a better player. Secondly, I guess I'm
glad that like left guards or that highly valued now.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
I'm pretty sure when I.
Speaker 9 (41:34):
Played left guard, we were the lowest paid position in
the NFL. You know, it was like, ah, you can
put anybody guard, just put any guy in there. I
mean that that narrative has changed, unfortunately about twenty years
too late for me.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
Okay, And also Eagles Kansas City's so controversy with the
Toush push, Russ, how would you defend I don't know
if we've talked about this before, how would you defend
the Toush push.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
It's really really hard.
Speaker 9 (42:02):
You know, it's the second wave that is what enables
the Eagles to have success a lot. I think if
you're the defense, you almost have to try to replicate
that second wave.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
And what do I mean by that?
Speaker 9 (42:20):
I mean obviously, as soon as the ball snap, the
d lines going down, and you got to keep running
your feet like the Eagles offensive line keeps running their feet.
But then when the pushers come in. I think that's
when the pushers for the Chiefs need to come in.
I think there or the other the opponent, I think
they need to match second wave for second wave. The
(42:42):
other thing is i'd probably have somebody try to jump
over the top and yank hirts and pull them down
from behind.
Speaker 4 (42:50):
Okay, Ross, just so people know out there in television land,
this is not live. We're recording it, this interview.
Speaker 1 (42:59):
Okay, record, you know, record.
Speaker 9 (43:01):
Wave Hall a second, we're recording the interview. Yeah, recording, Yeah, yeah,
it's not recording is correct?
Speaker 1 (43:07):
Recording recording?
Speaker 9 (43:10):
I think I got are we recording this?
Speaker 4 (43:15):
I think I got the mispronunciation wrong. You've really messed
me up. Ross, Thanks for this able auctions. All right,
see you boys, all right, audios.
Speaker 1 (43:24):
Ross Tucker recorded earlier today.
Speaker 5 (43:27):
Okay, that's why I don't sleep the night before this
guy comes on.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
That's why I just sleep till three in the morning
last night.
Speaker 4 (43:34):
We're way behind. Let's take a break, big Rye. Next,
Donnie Della the team line check. No shortage of submissions
into the Bayside Lace Bayside Ocean Front Resort inbox. When
it comes to J. T. Miller being named captain of
(43:55):
the Rangers, we'll get to those later right now, Big Rye, Twitter.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
Guy, Everyone back in me up. Okay. A couple of
things exactly did you say, uh, all over the place.
Speaker 5 (44:04):
Whatever I said was correct. That's the bottom line. Okay,
very quickly, a couple of white Caps related notes. First
of all, after the big weekend, Thomas Mueller white Caps
Player of the match day. They don't do player of
the week, Player of the match day for the MLS.
Thomas Mueller was, of course hatrick one assist, first player.
(44:25):
Did you talk about this part? By the way, first
MS player in history score hat trick on his birthday.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
Thirty six?
Speaker 5 (44:31):
Right, yeah, exactly, he looks twenty six, so he gets
a Player of the Match day. But the other story
with the white Caps is tonight. I want to show
this tweet the second leg of the Canadian Championship semi
final against Forge FC out of Hamilton, seven o'clock tonight
at BC Place. The winner, of course, advances to the
final of the Canadian Jam.
Speaker 1 (44:52):
White Caps won the last three Canadian championships. Yeah, good
for them. And you were breathing heavily. You're excited about this.
J T. Miller strophe. No, No, he's still getting over Tucker.
First of all, combination. You know I had a banana
during the break, That's why. Combination of the three.
Speaker 5 (45:12):
Yeah, Anyway, good luck to the white Caps trying to
punch their ticket to another Canadian championship tonight. Uh, did
you guys see what happened yesterday the Pittsburgh Penguins. They're
stars Chrysla Tang of Guinea, Malcolm and Sidney Crosby. They
went personally to hand out season tickets in every year.
I know they do, I know every year.
Speaker 1 (45:33):
I know. I don't see the Canucks doing this. Not
every team does it, no, I know.
Speaker 5 (45:37):
So anyway, Sidney Crosby the series of photos here of
him going door to door.
Speaker 1 (45:41):
He's literally kissing babies and shaking hands. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (45:45):
But then how about this video clip at one of
the houses he was at. He's chucking it up with
season ticket holders. He looks over Casey's hey, hey Joe,
Yeah it's good to see it.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
Yeah, yeah, we'll have a good season. They look. Look
who's driving by? Oh, Mary olemiue Becau with the sunglasses.
One in the electric hummer. What's that? Carr has bird
poop on it? No, no, go back to the car.
It's just a decal on the front. You're seeing the
(46:14):
second it's just a freezing on the car. What is that?
Where are you seeing that. I don't know. Maybe is
that a hummer? Electric commer? Yeah again, electric electric hummer. Yeah.
So there's Marilyn Mute just rolling on by saying, Hey,
checking up with maybe with bird poop on his window. Maybe.
Speaker 5 (46:31):
Sid did a brief interview, by the way, and of
course the main topic was about him staying and he
said it's the only place he wants to be.
Speaker 1 (46:38):
He also did say he's getting tired of answering the questions. Fortunately,
it's not gonna go away.
Speaker 4 (46:43):
He brought it on himself by talking by not like
a poop pooling the idea of using one of your
frame yea of going to Montreal.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
Oh no, no, hold on a second, his agent case.
Speaker 5 (46:55):
Yeah, that was the big the bigger piece out of
that Lebron article.
Speaker 4 (46:59):
He said it and self, No, no, he never said
going too much things could be worse or whatever whatever
the phrase was.
Speaker 1 (47:05):
Yeah, but I guess he has his point yesterday though his.
Speaker 4 (47:10):
Childhood, he's his favorite team growing up.
Speaker 5 (47:12):
Yeah, and of course we remember the ovation he got
at four Nations and all of that.
Speaker 1 (47:15):
That was the anything bad was drafted by the Yeah,
that was the theme of Lebron's article.
Speaker 5 (47:20):
And then yeah, his agent, Peerson, right, Peperson, Peperson is
he made a comment about never say never.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
Now, I will say Pat's comment was a big, long
comment and it got down to like four words and
it takes out.
Speaker 5 (47:32):
Look at this, you take out the sexy stuff and
you throw it out right in the headline.
Speaker 1 (47:36):
Well did you take out the sexy stuff? You know
what I mean?
Speaker 5 (47:38):
That the sex, take out the other heap the sexy. Yeah, okay, okay,
that's what I mean. Listen, if they're at the battle cases,
if they're at the bottom of the standings by Christmas
and that trade deadline's coming, watch out. I just think
if you're Kyle Dubis right, Like, I understand that's very
sweet of you to say, Sydney, I get all of that.
(48:00):
You have to do what's right for the franchise. Like
I mean, I'm sorry to say this. Icons are the
franchise here, no doubt about it. Hall of famers, all
of that. The Canucks would have been better off moving
on from Hendrick and Dania site and getting a.
Speaker 4 (48:14):
Return difficult though, because there's two of them and all
of that and all on this up by saying you
know and backing with what you said, Gretzky got trade.
Speaker 1 (48:23):
Well, and to be honest, I think different. I think
that it needed money, but I think they did get traded.
Speaker 5 (48:28):
I think one of the downfalls of the Canucks out
of twenty eleven was how little they got out of
that core of twenty eleven.
Speaker 1 (48:36):
Right, Hendrick and Daniels stayed right.
Speaker 5 (48:39):
You traded Kessler, but he had one place he wanted
to go, so you didn't really have all that great
of a trade partner.
Speaker 1 (48:44):
Right.
Speaker 5 (48:45):
You got something for Burrows that ended up being nothing. Hanson,
same thing like they got nothing. Usually these teams when
they could.
Speaker 1 (48:50):
Turn all those contracts, they could jump start it.
Speaker 5 (48:53):
I mean like Luwungo, they got Jacob Markstrom right out
of that trade. So, I mean, you did end up
getting good pieces. But it's the same thing in Pittsburgh.
Like that's really nice of you to say, I get it.
Speaker 4 (49:02):
But you're you're you're yeah, I agree, I agree that.
And with the with the Sedans. The other thing that
you know, this is digging very deep. But Louis Erickson
was supposed to work with him on the same line.
Speaker 5 (49:15):
One of the big reasons that Louis was signed six
But I I will say one thing. It's nice to
have the Sadeen Twins go coast to coast. It's nice
to Yes, no doubt, Trevor Lindon should You're right, Rick,
You're right, you are. London should never have been traded.
Keenan was here, messy, it was here. He got stuck
in that and that's a guy that should have gone
coast to coast.
Speaker 1 (49:34):
He should have. But even Trevor would admit to you
that was a pretty good trade.
Speaker 4 (49:38):
You can say what you want about uh by Trevor
London or about Mike Keenan rather, but you know Bertussie
and Brian McCabe, and they used Brian McCabe to get
what the Sedens.
Speaker 1 (49:50):
Yeah, like I say, I I know, I know. Obviously
it's a great story.
Speaker 5 (49:55):
Respect for the betterment of the franchise and everything you
gotta because like you don't want to be stuck in
the middle. Like, look, everyone calls the Penguins sellers. Well
they still have Malcolm and l Tang and Crosby.
Speaker 4 (50:07):
But this this could be a ray Board maybe a
little bit different than ray bourd because Sidney has three
Stanley Cup rings, but a rape fork situation where iconic player,
you know, you can't possibly grow.
Speaker 1 (50:17):
He wants to go.
Speaker 4 (50:18):
He wants to win a Stanley Cup somewhere else because
Boston wasn't gonna win it, right, He ends up winning
one in Colorado. So you know, I think Sidney's gonna
make the call.
Speaker 1 (50:28):
But it always doesn't work. Jerome mcginla tried. That didn't work, No,
at some point, you know.
Speaker 5 (50:33):
And by the way, I also don't know when exactly
Sid's gonna retire because I think there's a top rady
thing there. I think the top ten right exactly, very
effective at the four Nations, all of that. Yeah, I anyway,
it was cool to see him go dough to door
with some of the other Penguins yesterday and hand season tickets.
Up next, our good pal for the first hit hit
the season, Jamie McLennan.
Speaker 1 (50:52):
We'll talk j T. Miller, Captain Cy. He'll share his
thoughts on the Canucks and much more. It's all ahead.
It's Donny the team on check.

Speaker 4 (51:29):
Tuesday and all of our guests today brought to you
by our title sponsor Able Auctions, Ablelauctions dot c A
joined now by Noodles from TSN. Jamie mcclennan, Jami, thanks
for doing this, sir.
Speaker 8 (51:42):
How are you not too bad? How are you guys
doing today?
Speaker 1 (51:46):
Very well? Big news in New York, Big news in Vancouver. JT.
Speaker 4 (51:51):
Miller has been named twenty ninth captain of the fabled
New York Rangers. What's what's your reaction to that? Given
his history with the Vankover Cannucks.
Speaker 8 (52:02):
Surprise, I'll be honest. I had a few notes from
people in the league going, you know, he doesn't have
a long history there, like, he hasn't been there that long.
I do believe they need somebody to take command of
that room.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
It's weird.
Speaker 8 (52:18):
But I ran into somebody who, you know, very familiar
with the organization and said that that room has a
lot of leaders, but they're quiet and they just kind
of go.
Speaker 3 (52:29):
About their thing.
Speaker 8 (52:30):
And I'm probably talking about the superstars I imagine paneren
You know, there's lots of rumors about him just being
a quiet guy. And you know, I don't even know
if he's in the group chat because he has like
a flip phone. It's apparently known. But I just I
was surprised on that because if you look at it,
you know JT. Miller is certainly a leader, and his
(52:52):
in a different way, certainly vocal. You guys know him
from Vancouver, wears a part on his sleeve, all of
that type of stuff. I just to me, there, somebody
internally should be like, here's a guy who's been here
for ten years, you know, Adam Fox or somebody like that,
is like, this is a guy. It just kind of
caught me as a little bit strange, as this is
(53:14):
a guy doesn't hasn't been there for ten years in
a row and been up and down and all of that.
It's kind of somebody from the outside that has come
in and been here let's call it six months over,
you know, through him three months of a summer. It
doesn't seem like he has this longstanding identification with the
dressing room.
Speaker 4 (53:34):
Put it that way, would you have been surprised if,
let's say he stayed in Vancouver, you know, not that
long ago when the captaincy was in question here.
Speaker 1 (53:43):
If he was made captain of the Canucks, you.
Speaker 8 (53:48):
Know, just knowing from the outside, regardless of what you
think of maybe the person's personality which can be seen.
You know, we'll call it a little bit abrupt, a
little bit however you want to call it. You know,
I don't mind players that are demanding, as long as
they demand him from themselves. And I'll give you an example.
Chris Pronger is one of my best friends. But Prongs
(54:08):
at twenty three years old was a captain and a leader.
But man, he wasn't shy to let you have it
and say I expect I'm expecting this out of me,
so I expect it out of you. If that's the
way people like to lead. I think it is a
different world nowadays. You know this, I'm talking about twenty
five years ago when when Prongs was my captain. So
(54:29):
I look at it differently. But I it just he
doesn't scream like, hey, I'm the guy the captain. I
think he's part of a leadership group. But I don't
know if he's the number one, but he's certainly going
to be one in New York and in a you know,
Original six team, it's a big it's a big burden
to shoulder.
Speaker 1 (54:47):
Let's see if he handles it.
Speaker 5 (54:48):
Put it that way, hey, Jamie, that your dep Go
had a great summer, healthy, no stepbacks, when you got
a healthy that your depp Go training, everything was good.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
What do you expect from him this year? You guys?
Speaker 8 (55:03):
I mean, I'm a broken record. Every time I'm on
with you, I always feel like he's Vesna caliber. So,
you know, I look at Vancouver as one of the
biggest question marks for myself as an analyst coming into
the season. Can this team get back to where they
were two years ago where you know, you could argue
that they could have beat the Vonton Oilers and and
(55:25):
you know had a run there. You know, she LOFs
came in and played well. But if that's Demko, with
a healthy Demko, maybe something looks different there. Yes, the
team's different, but I still like their d I think
their goaltending is fantastic. And the giant question Marcus Patterson.
Can he return to form? But Demko, if he is
(55:46):
healthy and feeling good about his game, I like the
Canucks chances. As I say this all the time, he's
a top five, top seven goaltender, you name it. You
can argue of who's the best in the league, but
Demko puts himself in that category when he's healthy.
Speaker 5 (56:01):
Jamie, your thoughts on Carter Hart. He's not allowed to
play yet. Teams are interested, Philadelphia said, Carter Hart's agent
called and said he just want back in Philly. He
wants a fresh start somewhere.
Speaker 1 (56:13):
Would you take a shot on Carter Hart?
Speaker 8 (56:17):
Well, okay, there's two different things. There's the talent and
then there's a morality thing. And in mind, he wasn't
charged all of that type of stuff, so it you know,
there there is. You know, he put himself. He's the
young kid, put himself in a really bad situation and
they're still getting around it. So I have a daughter.
I think we all can understand how sensitive this nature is.
(56:41):
But I also believe in second chances. I believe in education.
I believe in trying to get better. So if that's
all the case, if you look at the five players involved,
he's the best player out of all of them if
you ask me, because he is a number one goaltender
and there's teams that are dying number one goaltenders. So
(57:01):
if you feel like there's a pathway for him making
a mistake and owning up to that part, but also
making amends and continuing on with his career, I think
you'd be a great addition to a lot of teams
that are looking for that type of scenario. But again,
it's a very it's not cut and dry. Depends on
(57:21):
how you view things. It depends on how your marketplace
would view it, your fan base, all of that type
of stuff. Because the mistake was a mistake, and it's
a serious one and it should be taken very seriously.
But let's keep in mind he's lost we'll call it
a year and a half maybe more of his career,
almost two years of a calendar year, so he's gonna
(57:43):
have to work his way back in. You don't just
hit the ground running and go, hey, I'm a number
one goaltender. Take him a little bit to settle back in.
So there's but at this way, many different layers to it.
But if you're asking me for a hockey standpoint, I
think he has a chance to be a good number
one goaltender in the league for many years if he
can regain his form and and you know, kind of
make amends for what's happened.
Speaker 4 (58:05):
And Jamie Ducks goalie prospect Thomas Sukanak prospects game Ducks
versus LA over the weekend.
Speaker 1 (58:13):
Scorer is on his own goal I saw.
Speaker 4 (58:16):
Do you feel for the kid? And can you relate?
Did anything like that happen to you?
Speaker 8 (58:21):
So, yes, it's happened to me. Secondly, I can't. I
can relate because anytime I see a goaltender to allow
a crazy goal, a bad goal of a that my
heart hurts because I replaced myself into that situation or
I know what it's like when and now I don't
know what it's like from a standpoint because social media
(58:43):
wasn't around when I was playing, you know. But now
that's a meme, that's a top ten list, that's all
these types of things. I would say to him if
I was his goalie, coach and his teammate, don't let
that define you. Everybody makes a mistake, everybody has, you know,
their their meme moment. If that's his, and he becomes
(59:04):
a great goaltender in the league, great, it's something that
looks back and chuckles at I'll tell you the funniest story.
It's I was eleven years old and I was playing
Triple A in Saint albert and my best friend's dad
was the coach and I was We were playing in
Red Deer, Alberta, so we drove down, so we owned.
(59:26):
My family owned a plane. We owned a little Cesna,
so my dad flew for a hobby and I went
to the game. I wrote down with my coach and
my best friend, and that night or that, I guess
afternoon or whatever, I was red rotten, like I was.
I was so bad to the point it was the
first time I ever got pulled in a game. And
(59:46):
the goal that got me pulled is I made the
save and I went to scoop it into myself and
I scooped it right into the net, and I went
to the my coach pulled me. And it's the first
time I ever swore at my coach. I used the
F word, and he, like, you know, benched me and
(01:00:06):
said get back there. While I did not know that,
my dad surprised and flew down and was watching the game.
So you know, I'm like here, I put one in
my own net. I swear at the coach. I mean,
I'm in big trouble. And here's my dad, who was
a very mild mannered man, and he just said to me,
He's like, listen, you know you made a mistake. He's like,
(01:00:28):
I don't you know. The respect factor with the coach
is a problem. He's like scoring on yourself. He always
used to say, like, live your life like this, don't
get too high, don't get too low. But I'll never
forget that moment scoring on myself. I can still see it.
And I was eleven fifty four now, so that's forty
three years ago. I can picture that like it was yesterday,
(01:00:50):
that traumatic goal. So he'll be fine and hopefully goes
on to a great career. And yes, I did know
the F word at eleven years old. I did grow
up in Alberta.
Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
Okay, I just.
Speaker 4 (01:01:01):
Want to hear more about your dad owning a plane exactly.
Speaker 8 (01:01:06):
My dad loved to fly, I mean he it was
his hobby. So I learned how to fly a plane
when I was sixteen, and we owned a little Cessna
one eight two Hawk XP with a retractable gear and
it was awesome. And I became a worse flyer the
older I got, because you know, you have to fly
a lot, and I fly. I still fly about one
(01:01:26):
hundred and twenty times a year doing color and all
of that. But yeah, we owned a plane. It was awesome.
And when my dad retired, him and ten other pilots
built a plane, which was.
Speaker 3 (01:01:38):
Kind of cool.
Speaker 8 (01:01:38):
They put ten thousand man hours into it, which, you know,
it was pretty cool. My dad died thirteen years ago,
but we held on to his plane for a little
bit and then we ended up selling it to somebody locally.
Speaker 4 (01:01:52):
You want to hear a good plane story, we got
to get going here where. But check out the Charlie
Sheen the new documentary on Netflix.
Speaker 1 (01:01:59):
Watching it ca. I literally was just watching it before
it came on.
Speaker 4 (01:02:03):
It starts with a story about him piloting a plane.
Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
I'll leave it at that. People can watch it. It's
it's a great start to the documentary.
Speaker 4 (01:02:12):
Jamie, thanks for that, appreciate it. And we'll talk to
you next a couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
Yeah, we'll see you through them guys.
Speaker 8 (01:02:18):
Thanks for having me, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
That noodles Jamie mcclennan. His dad was he's a pilot.
He's a pilot.
Speaker 5 (01:02:25):
That story by I'm watching the Toorney. It was him
and Nicholas Cage. Cage did the That was.

Speaker 1 (01:05:24):
Now he's smiling into New York. JT. Miller former Canucks
assistant captain. Jon Miller worked out so well.
Speaker 4 (01:05:33):
I want to get to some submissions here in the
inbox the Bayside Oceanfront Resort inbox. Uh, this I believe
is from Eddie. Look, who's the new head coach of
the Rangers, Mike Sullivan, the mentor to Rick Tockett in Pittsburgh.
Sullivan is looking to rebuild the culture with the Rangers.
He obviously loves the player, the type of player Miller
(01:05:56):
is talking, Sullivan talk being talking, and Sullivan would have
talked in depth about this and they would agree about
the type of players they want as their captain. And
JT ticks a lot of boxes. And don't say Sullivan
had Crosby because we all know he's a rare unicorn.
Most teams never get bottom line.
Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
Again.
Speaker 4 (01:06:16):
I believe it's Eddie pointing out that Mike Sullivan, well
respected head coach, he undoubtedly would have had something to
say when it comes to naming the new captain.
Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
Going with J. T.
Speaker 5 (01:06:26):
Miller who had him at four Nations Boom boom, and
they loved him on.
Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
At four Nations.
Speaker 5 (01:06:33):
Here's another one for you, Donnie, for them to name
him captain after knowing what the fight with Peterson, the
research they did, The research the Rangers did on Peterson
Miller's feud before acquiring him last year was massive.
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
I was told, do you know that.
Speaker 5 (01:06:49):
Of course, Donnie, he got in a big fight with
Petterson all year. You're not going to do research as
to why they fought. Of course they'd done a ton
of research, and they would have done a ton of
research in the name Beingham captain as well. Absolutely unequivocally
Craig and Vander who nails it. Miller wasn't without his faults,
but his performances outweigh the body language from a player
(01:07:10):
who hates to lose. Petterson comes across as someone who
doesn't care and we can hope that quickly changes.
Speaker 4 (01:07:18):
Well, you saw it front and center with Miller when
at times the body language, well maybe the body language
came from him caring too much.
Speaker 1 (01:07:27):
That cares, he cares. His careameter is high.
Speaker 4 (01:07:30):
And also, and this bothered a lot of people are
brought up earlier. Once in a while, backchecking was an issue.
It never really has been an issue with Petterson. I'm
gonna give I'm going to give him. Every player's got
an issue. But what you didn't see is what would
happened in the what happened last off season with Petterson
starting a new contract.
Speaker 1 (01:07:51):
You're one of.
Speaker 4 (01:07:51):
Going into that eleven point six eight year contract and
he comes into camp and conditioning is an issue.
Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
Rick Talckett starts talking.
Speaker 4 (01:07:58):
About him not moving his feet.
Speaker 1 (01:08:02):
J T.
Speaker 4 (01:08:02):
Miller and I believe this is from Steve.
Speaker 1 (01:08:06):
J T.
Speaker 4 (01:08:07):
Miller is one of the best players that ever played
in Vancouver period. I totally understand the frustration with pet
and I don't totally understand why the Rangers made him
their captain. He's an amazing hockey player and a leader.
Now I should mention that, uh, Steve obviously on JT.
Miller's side when it comes to this debate. There's no
(01:08:27):
shortage of people who are Elias Petterson fans as well?
Speaker 5 (01:08:32):
A Day from Lake Couch and Ryan. The Stanley Cup
is riddled with names of really cranky guys. The Lady
Bing is riddled with names of nice guys. So there
you go, that's that's.
Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (01:08:50):
I'll just respond to that person, that guy you're talking about.
It got hard here, got to a point here that
he he asked out, Well, so do we ask out
because the situation was good or bad? And who was
part of making it bad? Fifty to fifty him and
(01:09:11):
Patterson the right he should be part of. They should
be ashamed of them, sure, both of them. I totally
agree with that. But don't say to me like some
of these people make it seem like the Canucks decided
one morning, you know, everything's going really great here, we
have a damn good hockey player and let's just trade him.
Speaker 1 (01:09:31):
Like that's what some people they see it. But some
people make.
Speaker 5 (01:09:34):
It seem like that's the case with min there, like
that's not what do people not remember going through last season,
going through the benching, going through the personal leave, going
through him coming back off the personal leave, things not
getting any better going through him, right, But I'm just.
Speaker 1 (01:09:50):
That we'll hear about down the line.
Speaker 5 (01:09:51):
Yeah, and every one of those issues would be fifty
to fifty both of the parties. Yeah, they guys, like
every every one of them would say that except for this.
Speaker 4 (01:10:01):
I think I think a lot of people think Miller's
the better player.
Speaker 1 (01:10:04):
Oh that's not fifty five big time heart and soul.
Speaker 5 (01:10:07):
Gokay, but sure the age factors in on that. The
age factors in on that. I mean, let's see how
things keep going with JT right here, Like, he's not
thirty nine, he's thirty two. Yeah, so he's just talked
about Sidney Crosby. Oh he might play another four years.
He's thirty eight.
Speaker 1 (01:10:27):
Man, come on now, don't compare JT in the.
Speaker 5 (01:10:30):
Crosby You just did be because of training and eating right.
Players are Sadino Chara was forty two when he quit.
They can I can't writing them off right now. That's
a big that's a big.
Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
Yeah. There's a two Hall of famers are mentioning mentioning here.
Speaker 4 (01:10:44):
But by the way, I just want to say something
that I feel the Lady being doesn't get enough. This
is another another subject altogether doesn't get the love of
Gretzky won the Lady Being and Paul Korea Yeah, and
Ron friends. A lot of great players that have won
the Lady Bing Pavel Datsuit won it for like six
seven years in a row.
Speaker 1 (01:11:04):
San Louis, that is true. You are correct.
Speaker 4 (01:11:08):
I just ended this great, heated conversation we had by
bringing up respect for the Lady Being.
Speaker 1 (01:11:14):
Yeah you did. Miller ain't gonna win that award. I'll
tell you that much, No, okay, Abel, Yeah.

Beautiful. This is tough. Robert Redford has passed away. Rick.
Speaker 4 (01:14:24):
He was eighty nine years old. One of the most
prolific Hollywood actors over the last what I'd.
Speaker 1 (01:14:31):
Say, six decades.
Speaker 4 (01:14:32):
Absolutely starting out after some TV with Butch Cassidy and
The Sun, Dance Kid and the Sting iconic movies, Go
to Leading Man, What a handsome guy back.
Speaker 1 (01:14:43):
In the sixties and the late sixties and seventies.
Speaker 4 (01:14:45):
Went into star in Out of Africa, The Great Gatsby,
All the President's Men. A couple of movies I remember
of his that really stuck out. One was when We're
Sports Fans The Natural, The Natural nineteen eighty Yeah, and
always remember after that movie and when it was when
it was out that they called jose Canseco the Natural
(01:15:07):
when he was playing in the Oakland A's farm system
and came to that Bailey. And also the other one
with a lot of edge, indecent proposal, remember that.
Speaker 1 (01:15:15):
That was really Moore? Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
And Woody Harrelson, what a concept? Did you see that movie?
Speaker 1 (01:15:21):
Ryan? That was a really good movie, really good. No,
I don't know if he's so cool to see I do.
Speaker 5 (01:15:28):
I just don't know why you're asking me, because I
don't know if I've seen a single Robert Redford.
Speaker 4 (01:15:32):
I don't know if you see a single movie other
than Marvel and Dcah.
Speaker 1 (01:15:36):
Was he in a DC or a Marvel movie? He was?
Speaker 4 (01:15:38):
It might have been right, one of his last movies. Yeah,
that makes sense. He was also a director. He was
in charge of Ordinary People with Mary Tyler Moore.
Speaker 1 (01:15:46):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
It won Best Picture in nineteen eighty he was named
Best Director. It was his first, his first go at
being a director. He also founded the sun Dance Film Festival.
Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
He was the he started that. Yes, very well respected.
Speaker 4 (01:16:02):
But just said he founded this Sundance Film Festival. So
God bless Robert Redford. Eighty nine years old.
Speaker 1 (01:16:13):
One of the best all time. Birthdays.
Speaker 5 (01:16:15):
All right, that's right, no question, Ryan, Let's go on birthdays. Hey,
I put a lot of time into this. Last I
liked Yesterday, September sixteenth, five birthdays brought to you by
the Little Rickey's Car Washing Casino in Manlawaukee, Quebec, Geno
Jic's hometown.
Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
Is there a line here? Have you got a betting line.
I bet the line is three.
Speaker 5 (01:16:36):
Whatever that means. Anyways, let me get going here. This
guy one of my favorite defensemen from the eighties. Okay,
that's not a clue, just like you need any better
than the clues him betting? No, Okay, seventh al seventh
overall picked by the Canucks in nineteen eighty is currently
a head coach at Delta.
Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
Academy, Rick Clans, Ricklans, Delta. I gave him away time
coach of the DCHL. Yes, absolutely love Rick Lads. Yeah,
number four. He had eighteen goals in eighty four.
Speaker 4 (01:17:06):
Hey, it's funny I mentioned Jim Benning. If I'm not mistaken,
they were traded for each other.
Speaker 1 (01:17:11):
Lance and Benny to Toronto. That's right, that's right.
Speaker 5 (01:17:14):
Okay, this goaltender lasted one year in Vancouver and then
was bought out by the Canucks.
Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
Well what era we talk? Just you should know that recently, recently,
last ten years. Braiden Hopey, got it, Braiden Hobey.
Speaker 5 (01:17:29):
Please clues, these clues are good, don How can you
complain you got it?
Speaker 4 (01:17:34):
You would have said a goaltender who got in trouble
for what he had painted on his mask.
Speaker 5 (01:17:40):
Remember that I was a great clue done. Travis Green
coaches this guy. He's one of the best young forwards
in the national hockey team.
Speaker 4 (01:17:48):
Tim Timusa cat check, Brady Kochak?
Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
Where where's Where's Travis Green? Right now? I said, Brady Kcheck.
Speaker 5 (01:17:57):
You got it, Bradykcheck. Okay, listen to this one. This
one's good in golf. His nickname is the scientist Branston Champigo.
Speaker 1 (01:18:07):
Okay, there you go. All right, this one's the last one,
and this guy's when we're over three. Now just listen.
Speaker 5 (01:18:14):
One of my favorite actors an American actor, former professional
boxer leading man.
Speaker 1 (01:18:21):
His movie Nine and a half Weeks were Kim I
Love Mickey Roy great Mickey Rourke movie underrated Barfly? All right?
Speaker 5 (01:18:30):
What was it?
Speaker 1 (01:18:31):
He was good? Since well and since city was good
in two thousand, It's good everything. Yeah, that's it. Yeah,
that's it. I thought I did well. You did well.
Speaker 4 (01:18:43):
How do you think you got the answers? Because the question, yeah,
this is one of my favorite players in the eighties.
Speaker 1 (01:18:49):
Was it a great clue? You know, like I'm behind here,
all right, we're good?
Speaker 4 (01:18:56):
Is it just me is coming up? And we have
all sorts of submissions. Ye, well to them regarding J. T.
Miller being named captain of the New York Rangers, was it,
did I say, October twenty eighth.
Speaker 1 (01:19:06):
Yeah, yeah, I did. Okay, what we'll do the poll?
Cheers a booze? What cheers and booze? When are we
doing the poll? We will do that poll question? What
will he get speakable of this? Like a month from now?
We had to save save some of that content up. Okay,
all right, Uh you can rock and roll here. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:19:29):
Morten Harkett, Morton Harkett, I said Pardon born sixty six
years ago Sunday.
Speaker 1 (01:19:35):
One of my favorite players in the eighties. Well, it's
a song.
Speaker 4 (01:19:38):
This is eighties lead singer songwriter for the Norwegian group
It's going to play us O in October eighty four
and the album Hunting High and Low. This is a
hum remember the video oh number one worldwide with take
on Me on Check playing the best of Scandinavia on
a BC Tuesday morning. This goes out to Rick Lance
(01:20:13):
all right, time for is it just me? And a reminder?

Speaker 1 (01:20:33):
Is it just me wreck? Here we go?
Speaker 5 (01:20:34):
A huge mistake for the Canucks to trade Miller keep Bambi.
Rangers can see what makes Miller tick. He couldn't stand
watching Bambi go through the motions while running to the bank.
Miller is the real deal. Bambie's a pretender. Kicky and
Victoria who went to the Waddling Dog last night one
of our sponsors, Yes, Bambi referring to a falling down.
(01:20:55):
Patterson's falling down. But he put on thirteen pounds Don thirteen.
I said this yesterday.
Speaker 4 (01:21:01):
I know you guys were listening on my hit on
Sports that six fifty with Sat and Dan, and I
wonder about the thirteen pounds. The pets is not the
fastest guy in the world, so hopefully it doesn't affect
his skating. Is skating, But you know, it's a yin
and yang thing. Is at the right expression, I'm not
sure if it applies here. The good with the bet
(01:21:23):
it'll help him, I would think in the corners and
hopefully make him a little sturdy on his skates.
Speaker 5 (01:21:29):
Yeah, I mean thirteen pounds is thirteen pounds. It's good,
very much muscle, because muscle always fat. Three to one, Well,
you hope it's muscle.
Speaker 1 (01:21:38):
I can put it on there. Think you sat at
home eating a banana pie all day?
Speaker 4 (01:21:42):
Come on, you know what, I am one hundred percent
sure he did not stay at home eating banana peak.
Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
But it's muscle he put on. Hockey players talk about muscle,
not fat.
Speaker 4 (01:21:53):
By the way, banana pie does not sound good. Banana
cream pie a banana cream pie. I meant saying that
it's no lemon meringue.
Speaker 1 (01:22:00):
Oh that's the best. Is it just me?
Speaker 4 (01:22:04):
But hey, Donnie and Ryan with Rick's love for everything Toronto,
ask him if he thought of Vancouver had the only
major League baseball team in Canada? Does he think that
anyone there would cheer for Vancouver? DJ and Port Moody,
that's a very good, very good.
Speaker 5 (01:22:19):
I've been watching the Blue Jay since they're at the CNE.
You know is yeah in Toronto still there, late seventies,
I've been watching the Blue have yeah. I mean, come on,
in ninety I think there were people in this country going.
Speaker 1 (01:22:33):
On but.
Speaker 4 (01:22:35):
Makes the point that the only MLB team in Canada
was in Vancouver, with people in Toronto pay attention.
Speaker 1 (01:22:42):
I just no, it wouldn't go all right? Is it
just me?
Speaker 5 (01:22:47):
But Henderson's right, Their revisionist history for Rick and Donnie
is amazing. Rick, do you want to be Miller's agent?
He will need one when he's bought out in three years?
Speaker 4 (01:22:56):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (01:22:56):
El Vanel in Surrey, so uh this obviously mister Vanille
here loves Henderson's to.
Speaker 1 (01:23:02):
You could be a woman.
Speaker 5 (01:23:03):
I think, oh, all right, yeah, that's so she is
supporting Henderson and ripping you and I And no, I'm
not Miller's agent.
Speaker 1 (01:23:12):
In Bracketts, She's a fan of banana cream pie.
Speaker 5 (01:23:15):
By the way, I don't want it to seem like
it was all entirely bad here. And somebody also wrote
in specifically it sounds like, specifically player in history, specifically
off the ice, what JT and his wife did in
the community here was obviously insanely positive work. But I'm
just saying sometimes I think when it's when we talk
about his departure from here, it's like people make it
(01:23:38):
seem like it came.
Speaker 1 (01:23:39):
Out of nowhere. Oh, there's no words with JT. Miller.
It was all of these Petterson just ridiculous, and that's
not true.
Speaker 4 (01:23:46):
I need to I need help from our great listeners,
viewers in more ways than one.
Speaker 1 (01:23:51):
I need help, period.
Speaker 4 (01:23:53):
But give me an example of in the history of sports,
like two teammates not not getting along for like a
significant amount of time, and you gotta let one of
them go. You gotta like both good players usually athletes are.
They're tough guys, so they can work things out. I
mentioned the Oakland A's.
Speaker 1 (01:24:10):
In the seventies. Well, the other wrinkle to it, Donnie,
and to be corrected it it was reportedly a problem.
Then they had that really great year. Yes, and everyone's koombay.
Speaker 5 (01:24:21):
So we assume at that point then the contracts are
settled from both of them.
Speaker 1 (01:24:26):
They get these extensions. Rix brings it up all the
time too, and then let Horrorvart go.
Speaker 5 (01:24:30):
But they sit him over two of them side contract
extensions long term, knowing that either one of them was
supposed to be here long term. That's the wild part
to me. And here's another one. Travis Green dealt with
these two. Budreau deltas to talk, get dealt with these two.
And yet management signs two guys who hit each other
in the long term meals.
Speaker 1 (01:24:50):
And that's the point you were making. You were making
that point. Everybody goes, Oh, it's Petter Cinnis Miller.
Speaker 4 (01:24:55):
What about the guys in charge?
Speaker 1 (01:24:56):
New we s Nick? You want players? Is it just me?
Speaker 4 (01:24:59):
But you want players who hate to lose more than
they like to win as your captain.
Speaker 1 (01:25:04):
And that's j T Miller from a New West. Nick.
He cares, he defends teammates, he hits, he's hard scale.
I mean, give me a break. They didn't let a
fourth liner go. They didn't.
Speaker 5 (01:25:15):
They traded a very important part of the hockey club.
They asked JT to give a trade list. First, Canucks
wanted JT out before JT wanted out. Don't blame him.
Must have been exhausting, Sandy Universe.
Speaker 1 (01:25:25):
Who was the timeline there? Well? Uh, timeline for what
the whole discussion about j T. Miller leaving was? It
was it the team that wanted him At the end.
Speaker 5 (01:25:38):
At the end, JT and his agent talked with the
timeline for what with the thing talk? JT and his
agent went to the Canucks and said, hey, look, if
it's not going to work out, you know, let's try
and work together together.
Speaker 1 (01:25:52):
They worked on this Markansas Surrey. Is it just me?
Speaker 4 (01:25:55):
But I heard you can add six kilos of muscle
by being the dorman at Trevor Linns him in salth
Surrey during the off season.
Speaker 1 (01:26:01):
What does that mean Trevor Lindon's gym. I go there,
I was there yesterday.
Speaker 5 (01:26:05):
The front two doors are too heavy done and half
my workout is opening the front two doors heavy Remember
you complained to Okay, you know Trevor's got to get
a button so they can open there. Half my workout
he's opening his front two doors.
Speaker 1 (01:26:19):
We'll talk to Trevor about that. We gotta pick a break,
I think we do. You get sneak in one more quick?
Speaker 5 (01:26:26):
Is what Thomas Mueller is doing for the white Caps
with the Canucks were hoping to get from Matt Sundeen
back in the day.
Speaker 1 (01:26:30):
Aaron and Southwest. Good, that's a good one.
Speaker 8 (01:26:32):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (01:26:33):
Aaron and south older.
Speaker 4 (01:26:34):
Older player contributing to a different team later in his career.
It didn't really happen with Matt Sundean although I will
maintain he did get better, but not enough to justify
the money there. There was nothing there, It's just shape.
He was his first game evert shift always and everton.
His first shift wearing the number thirteen was thirteen seconds long.
(01:26:58):
And yeah, but he did get better, but wasn't worth
the money they were thinking of it. They dodged them.
They dodged as originally the offer of minunderstanding twenty million
over two years, and he turned it down and then
joined them short term later on A break will wrap
up the show in the poll question Next, Donnie Dolly,
the team un.
Speaker 1 (01:27:16):
Check looking for one of Victoria's most iconic stays.

that's Andrew and Ken.
Speaker 1 (01:30:53):
Thank you guys so much. Awesome, We're good. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:30:57):
Okay, I had one more really good submission here I
wanted to get to but this is just a great
Justin and East fan.
Speaker 1 (01:31:07):
Is it just me?
Speaker 4 (01:31:07):
Shaq and Kobe didn't end well with the Lakers?
