Is Derek Waran. How are you, oh, oh boy, oh
boy on a show? Get Ready?

Speaker 3 (01:01):
We've been thrown a curveball. Obviously we want to talk
about the Canucks, the Lions, the white Caps, NFL, etc.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
But I'm blue jays. Well you do definitely.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Canadian Football League has called a press conference. It's supposed
to start at ten o'clock our time back in Toronto.
First year commissioner Stuart Johnson, friend of the show, Yeah,
ex TSN boss announcing significant changes significant You and I
have both been told, despite a lot of speculation on

(01:36):
social media that those changes who won't involve a change
from three downs to four downs, which a lot of
people would would like to see. But that's not going
to happen. So the speculation is rampant. We'll find out
what the changes or change will be, I would think
in a matter of moments.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
So we both heard on the weekend that it's not
going to go to four downs. We're not gonna Americanize
the Canadian football.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Well at least not yet, not from that point, not yet.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
So it should stay. It will stay at three downs,
not go to four. Can't wait for this announcement, dog.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah, and so people talked about moving from three to
four downs, changing the size of the field, But I mean,
I I've done this before on the show regarding changes
that I would like to see.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Yeah, you wrote a book on CFO.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Yeah, I think in our first year we had a
graphic and you know, one thing I think they should do,
and I know this is a bit get out of Toronto,
move the arguet, move the argus took a body or
Halifax or wherever, because nothing, to me hurts the CFL more.
And I know it's the biggest market in case it's

(02:52):
not working there, it's you know, time has proven that
it's not working there. NFL lasted a long time without
Los Angeles. I know it's hard to compare the NFL
to anything because it's so big and powerful. But nothing
hurts the CFO more than those pictures of empty seats demo.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
And they've won some great Cups in the past few years.
Done it doesn't help last year.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, no, I you know, that's one thing I would
like to say you and I also speculated that maybe
this is a TV situation that that because it's strange
that with you know, three to four games, five games left,
why do this now, like are you gonna announce rule
changes at this point? That it's more about off the

(03:34):
field and maybe it's a TV deal with the streaming service.
I'm not sure. The Stuart Johnson we just mentioned long
times and employee and eventually an executive. I think he
started as an intern and it lasted three or four
decades there. He's a TV person, so that that might
make a whole lot of sense. We're speculating here, but
that's all we can do because I have to hand

(03:57):
it to the people involved in.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
The Canadian Football League.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Oh, they really done a good job of keeping this
secret under wraps. Yeah, we you know, We've asked around
and nobody. Nobody knows anything, or at least they're not
if they if they do know something, they're not saying it,
and that's usually not the case big time.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
Yeah, and just on the TV deal, Donny, the TSN
gives the CFL gives TSN big numbers in the summer,
and don't underestimate. Yeah, it's important and it gives them
a great Cup number that even hockey games can't give them.
So you know what, it's an important piece to TSN.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Right, But does that deal change as of today given
the fact we're going to see some sort of announcement
they talked about the significant changes. I wonder, you know,
is this a thought you you were thinking that maybe
it would be expansion to the US.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
No, no, no, no, no, been there, done that I
remember what was it, Las Vegas, Las Vegas Posset.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Birmingham Barracuda's Breck Donagan played for.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
They had a good logo. Barracuda's had a good logo. Yeah,
Soccer Mental gold Miners. Oh yes, I remember that. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
I always remember looking at a Las Vegas posse hat. Yeah,
I think I should buy that because this thing isn't
gonna lie.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
They had good logos.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Yeah, and it was the American team the anthem singer
in Las Vegare. There is a lot there, Okay, So
let's just stick with the CFL as we wait for
this announcement. Lions beat the Stampeeds and we're gonna get
to the Canock Shed a bit, folks. BC Lions over
the Stampeders fifty two to twenty three Friday in Calgary.
Lions are now seven and seven. Nathan Rourke is the

(05:31):
most outstanding player candidate, arguably the best player in the league.
Right now, Lions should be nine to five. They blew
those leads at home against Hamilton and then on the
at home at probably in Ottawa against.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
The Red Blacks.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
They could easily have a much better record, and as
it is, they're hoping to sneak into one of the
you know, well, that third playoff spot in the West,
maybe the second.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
You know, And and Nathan Rourke has passed Russ Jackson
at Donny for the most yards by a Canadian quarterback
in a single CFL season. This is an American skill
position for decades in Canada. This guy is turning the tide.
And you know, what Nathan Rourke is doing is incredible
for a Canadian quarterback and his brother, this whole family,
His brother's in the NFL don and what they're doing

(06:17):
is incredible. But what's more incredible is not just his throwing.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
It's just running the amount three touchdowns, three touchdowns, running
four hundred and twenty four yards rushing.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
This guy keeps defenses honest with his arm and his legs.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
He's unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
One of the most embarrassing efforts by the Lions a
few weeks back was against the Argonauts in Toronto.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
They host the Argonauts Friday.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
At BC Place. Yes, as they try to nail down
a playoff spot in the Canadian Football Like, how we
doing Ryan thumbs up, thumbs down.

Speaker 5 (06:51):
Well, I've been listening to the commissioners speaking right Now,
one thing he's just guaranteed is they're going to move
the goalposts to the back of the end zones starting
next season. He provided three examples of either a play
not visually looking all that great because of the goal posts,
and also the passing options limited because of the goal posts.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
So that's one of the things.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
The thing with that is you wonder how that's what
it's going to affect scoring in a big way, because
of course CFL en zones are twenty yards like ten
yards like the NFL.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Yeah, talk about the size of the again, he's very
it's very early on.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
But what he hinted is the three major things are
going to be the goal posts, the end of the rouge,
and potentially also changing the size of the end zones.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Oh okay as well.

Speaker 5 (07:39):
So those seemed to be the three things hinted at.
He just started to expand on. This is the CFO
commissioner just started to expand on those things. And I
will say he had three recent examples with the goal
posts visually that I'll be able to clip in a moment.
We'll get them later in the show that he had
a point in, including that once spectacular catch here in

(08:01):
BC earlier in the year, the one handed grab, and
he said visually, and you.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
See it right in front of you.

Speaker 5 (08:06):
Visually, it doesn't come across that great because a goal
post is in front of the player making the catch,
and that's not great when it comes.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
To and that's a bad example. And I think that
was you know, I agree with moving the goalposts back. Yeah,
I mean visually, it's not a great highlight when you
have that in the way it worked that that that
wasn't I think that's a that's a that's a poor example.
But I think definitely and when you talk about opening
up the game getting rid of those goal.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Posts, so that's what it took a while, that's what
he said.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
Moving to the back is definitely good move the rouge.
Everybody has talked about that for a long time. Awarding
a single point on a punt, but the worst of all,
on a missed field goal. You could win games because
you you know, even though you didn't execute a play well,
a kicker or you know, the kicking team didn't execute

(08:57):
a play well, and you get you get ordered a
single point, and you could that could be the difference
in a game.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
It's not right. I'm good this is so far, so good.
I'm not listening obviously anymore.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
But Rob Williams from the Daily Hive he has summarized
two other things.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
So end zones are going from twenty yards to fifteen
yards in size, and CFL fields are gonna be one
hundred yards like the NFL, not one hundred and ten
yards a good size. That's a big one. So they're
gonna shrink the field size as well.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
That'll emphasize offense, help help out offense. Yeah, yeah, And
what about the width? Did they talk about that?

Speaker 1 (09:37):
I mean, again, that's all odd because I'm not listening.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
I'm just going by what Rob's tweeting out right now,
so I don't know the exact dimensions or anything like that.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
But that's that's what's coming down.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
The one thing about shrinking the field, and this isn't
as big a deal with the length as it would
be for the width, but you know you're gonna be
spectators are gonna be further away from the play, at
least in the end zoles. If they do it with
the width, they're gonna be for further away. Because one thing,
I don't know how many NFL games you've attended live
when you as a Canadian who's followed the Canadian football,

(10:09):
when you go see an NFL game, you go, we
walk into loomingfield.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
It looks like a hockey rick. It looks so small.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Yeah, and you know these stadiums here are built for
the Canadian game, and the stands are built for the
Canadian game. So if they do shrink it strength the width,
that's gonna look, that's gonna look pretty serious.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Well, unless they can make alterations to the stadiums.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
I mean, like for BC Place for instance, Right, they
have seats that when the white Caps are in there, Right,
they have the seats that expand out.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
They get you closer to the play.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Because I'm picking here, but we don't know about the widths.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Point.

Speaker 4 (10:46):
But the larger fields always being unique. It's Canadian. It's
at the CFL. And now they're gonna look, I want
to see you the width of the field because I okay,
the length, I understand that, but you know the quarterbacks,
you're lessening how much more time or space they got
to work with too.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
So sixty five yard with it? I believe the NFL's
just over fifty sis between fifths, a weird number. It's
between fifty three and fifty four if I'm not mistaken.
So there's a significant difference, and I don't know, it
makes it unique, right that that width and that space
makes the game unique. But nothing about downs at this point. No,

(11:24):
we said that's not gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (11:26):
Like I say, what he outlined in his original opening
statements was nothing about downs.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
He never mentioned downs.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
That would have been the first thing, that would have
been the most important thing right out of the shoot.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
We're going from three to four downs. But that's not it.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Oh, by the way, the play clock moving from twenty
to thirty five second.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Yeah, that's interesting. When you talk to players, and everybody
I know that has played well has played in the
National Football League and the Canadian Football League, Brent Johnson
and an example of this, they say that the biggest
adjustment isn't the width of the field. It's not the
one yard space between the defensive line and the offensive line,

(12:11):
or the hash marks or anything like. They say, the
biggest thing, especially for defensive linemen who are packing a
little more weight, is it's the clock, you know, going
from a twenty second clock to a forty second clock.
Probably from a forty second clock to a twenty second clock,
get you get winded a lot easier.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
So they go to thirty five. So somewhat of a
compromise there.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
Twenty to thirty five. Also, no change on the field width.
It's just going to be the length. So I got
that confirmed. My buddy Craigs helped me out. No change
on downs. Well here's another thing. The three minute clock.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
You know we were the clock stops without after every
single play. And I thought for a long time when
you go to games, that can be and it can.
It can lead to great comebacks, and I understand that,
but a lot of times it can stretch out a game. Yes,
like for a long long time that it's say that
games will blowout. You just don't you just don't need that.

(13:09):
I always thought maybe it would be a good idea
that if you're up, if a team is up, say
twenty one points, twenty eight points, or whatever the case
may be, that you do away with that that rule
with three minutes left. It can, but again it does
lead to comebacks. Did they say anything about that. I'm
looking at Twitter. I don't see anything about that, Ryan.

Speaker 5 (13:28):
No, no, nothing. Yet it sounds like I can actually
put this up. This is from Ben Steiner. This is
the This is ultimately all of the changes announced today.
So in twenty twenty six, the team benches are going
to go on the opposite side of the field. Is
just going to be modified an auto thirty five second

(13:51):
play clock. Then in twenty twenty seven, goalposts moved from
the goal line to the back of the end zone,
end zones to be a standard fifteen yards from twenty yards,
and CFL fields shrunk two one hundred yards from one
hundred and ten.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Okay, that's what's being announced today by CFL. By the way,
the rouge is.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Being modified, Yeah, it's not being done away with. Only
playable balls will be eligible for a rouge. Kicks out
of the end zone will not be awarded a single point,
so that's not doing away with it completely. Also, team
benches on opposite sides for twenty twenty six, yeah you go.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
And in the NFL, I.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Think there's they've gone more towards the benches being on
the same side. Amar Dolman changed that when he took
over as owner of the Lions. They used to always
be the team benches on opposite sides, but he wanted
those sideline seats for VIPs.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Right, make some extra money either.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Yeah, you saw you know, the Trailer Park Boys exactly
last time out at an Alliance home game. Sam Reinhardt
was there recently Spidery Cup chap. But that that'll you know,
by moving the the benches to one side, that allowed
for that first, you know, more of a special experience
for some people, the only experience for some people. Be

(15:09):
interesting to see what Amar says about that. Although I
think I would think the owners were in and all
these changes.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Right, oh, big time, big time.

Speaker 4 (15:16):
You can't make these changes without the Board of governors,
he said, unanimously.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
It was approved by exactly.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
And the two big ones it's still three down Canadian football.
The other one is the ratio wasn't touched as to
amount of Canadians on a roster, which is good. We
need that number high. So those were the two big
takeaways for me. These are all moves that will be
implemented next year. I was so worried, and so far
I'm saying, so good.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
Okay, A lot of what we've seen today are issues
that can people complain about, rules that people complained about
a lot, so this is really positive.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
I was so.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Worried like it because Stuart Johnson, God bless them for
a friend of the show. He's a Toronto guy, and
you know, like these Toronto guys, they want to they
want to make sure that everything is okay with Toronto.
Toronto doesn't care about the CFL. I was I was
worried about there's going to be something like, you know,
let's let's try that my American expansion again.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
What was it? What was the other the Global.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
Point oh two or CFL two point Stop it trying
to you know, make it big in other countries. Just
worry about about Canada. You have enough issues in this country. Now,
this is this is good stuff, this is positive.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
It's proactive.

Speaker 4 (16:30):
He's a new commissioner coming in making some changes as
as opposed to keeping its status quo. I'd like the
new vision, the new thought process, new guy in town.
It's not bad.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
There has been a bigger change in sports in the
last several years. I mean, look, there've been look at
the NHL and what it did in two thousand and five,
the elimination of the red line, which has really improved
the entertainment value for hockey, and you know, going way back,
you know the twenty four second clock in the NBA,
but that pitch clock for baseball, which is recent, that change,

(17:05):
it's made the game. Weag there, it's made, it's made
it wait in and other leagues have changed the CFL.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
Jumping on board with that.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
I don't have a problem with this at all.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
This is positive for the league. How are we doing?

Speaker 3 (17:17):
We gonna break, were gonna gota break? Okay, here's what's
coming up on the show, DTMZ. Is it just me
coming up in the eleven o'clock hour. Farhand's gonna join
us at eleven thirty usually on a Thursday.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
We've bumped him up.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Frehand has bumped himself up to today to talk about
these CFL changes so Farhand eleven thirty, Elliott Freeman just
after eleven o'clock, Big Rye Twitter guy coming up later
this hour and up next Ian Fernest. There's a lot
to talk about in sports in Seattle. On sports in
Seattle and the crack and meeting the Canucks. Yesterday, Seahawks

(17:50):
just demolish the Saints. They're now two and one and
the Mariners are headed to the playoffs. Cal Rowley continues
to hit home runs. A lot to talk about down
in Seattle. Thanks for joining us, folks, Hope you had
a great weekend. Ian's next Donnie Dolly the Team.

rule changes as the show goes on, but right now
we're going to focus on Seattle sports with our friend

(19:24):
I frinestfro KGr Sports Radio and the KRACK and Hockey Network.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
And thanks for doing this. How are you?

Speaker 3 (19:29):
I'd imagine not that well because Washington State got wallet
in the Apple Cup.

Speaker 6 (19:36):
Yeah, I was as a rough one on Saturday for
my alma mater, but you know, we move on.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
Outside of that.

Speaker 6 (19:42):
It was a good weekend for sports here in Seattle.
And you know, we even had a hockey game last
night that that Rick was texting me about can I
watch it?

Speaker 7 (19:49):
And all that?

Speaker 1 (19:50):
So yeah, here we are.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Yeah, and you know we had no have no people,
no shortage of people. Rather, I'm just gonna say it
with no people watching but which might be the case,
but no shortage of people in our base side ocean
front resort. Inbox wondering just how you felt about last
night's crack and win, which is great a preseason, but
no Tyler Myers for people to boot.

Speaker 6 (20:13):
Yeah, I was kind of disappointing. I think we all
want to see Tyler out there. You know, listen, you
know I'm still trying to figure out what preseason hockey
is about to be. And I'm dead serious you know,
when you play a road game, you know you bring
for the most part, you don't bring your guys like
Vancouver certainly did last night. Seattle plays in Calgary to Morrow,

(20:35):
Edmonton on Wednesday, and then Vancouver later in the week,
and it'll be the same thing. You know, you play
a lot of you know, basically HL players. I did, like,
you know, just real quick. I thought what Adam Foot
did yesterday was good because there's been opportunities for that
here over the last four previous preseasons, where like local
guys that played for Seattle or Evertt for example, could

(20:56):
come home and play and you know, for whatever reason
they're left off the squad and they play the next
night and you know wherever Abbot's for it or someplace and.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
You know, to play.

Speaker 6 (21:03):
I thought it was great that he played Braden Koots
and he played swidter Mineo yesterday, and I thought that
was kind of fun with Koots.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
I thought Coots looked good by the way.

Speaker 6 (21:10):
I thought, like, I thought he looked pretty good that
he's want to kind of stand out for him. But uh, yeah,
first day of first day of the Lane Lambert era
is underway, and uh, in a way we go.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
Do you have a read on what type of game
he wants to play?

Speaker 6 (21:22):
Yeah, I think, you know, I think there's accountability. We
saw that with John Hayden. You know, it was a
clean hit and but Hayden still went after the kid
and and and you know, Lane kind of applauded it
for him for that after the game last night. There
has been a little bit of lack of accountability, lack
of physical play. Defensive structure has been abysmal the last
couple of years. So I think you saw a little

(21:43):
bit of that yesterday. And you know, like the lines
that they had out, Yeah, they had some top end
guys out there with Bennier's and others, but uh, you know,
we didn't see any true line combinations were going to
see during the season, much like Vancouver. So but I
I the structure seems to be a lot better watching
some of the practices. It's very, very, very different than
it was a year ago with Dan Bilesman his staff.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
So we'll see.

Speaker 6 (22:04):
You know, the expectations nationally or internationally if we want
include Canada are pretty low for this team. But I
think there's there's a little bit better than people are
going to give them credit for if they can have
some guys maybe take that next step. This year got
some young guys we're excited about, so we'll see.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
All right, let's go over to the Seahawks. That was
fun to watch.

Speaker 4 (22:23):
When you score on your first seven possessions, that's a
good thing. Ian, that's a good thing. This offense number
game one a little bit out of sync.

Speaker 6 (22:31):
But boy, the rolling, now, yeah, they just way the
football is strange, isn't it. I mean, I guess maybe
all sports are like this. Sometimes you can just get
on a roll, like it just feels like everything's gonna
go your way. I mean it felt like that for
Washington against Washington State on Saturday in the Apple Cup.
Husky scored every time they touched the ball, and the
Seahawks felt like they did the same thing yesterday. You know,
I Kellen, more than first year head coach for the Saints,

(22:53):
certainly helped out some interesting decisions and going forwards and
things like that. His special teams are abysmal. I mean
they're horrible. I mean, blockfield goal, I mean everything they
just went on in that regard. So but yeah, Sam
Donald looks a lot more comfortable, and that's the big key,
he's more comfortable. He's spreading the ball around a little
bit more. They got the run game going a little
bit more, not to the level they want to yet,

(23:15):
but ken Walker looks like he kind of did a
couple of years ago, and you see why he's a
difference maker running back. And then the defense is really good,
you know the defense to be and you know, guys,
it's interesting. I don't know if if folks that are
Seahawk fans up there noticed, are nuts. Yeah, I'm here,
I'm sorry about that.

Speaker 8 (23:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (23:36):
No, they they did something yesterday interesting. They had a
lot of guys out that like so Julian Love starting
safety out, Devin Witherspoon, probably their best all around defensive player,
out of the game, and Love played the entire game
the week before, played every snap in Pittsburgh, and then
all of a sudden he shows up in the injury report.
He doesn't play. Witherspoon was running forty yard sprints before
the game in Pittsburgh. They hold him out of the

(23:57):
game as well. Nicki min Worriy also out of the game.
So three of their top defensive backs out and all
of them It just kind of feels it felt like
they thought they had this game so well in hand
they could rest these guys up for the short week
against Arizona. At screams confidence for Mike McDonald because I
think we're a little worried going in. But yeah, they
had no problem taking care of a Saints team that's

(24:18):
just frankly not very good.

Speaker 4 (24:20):
All Right, we got to talk baseball, Mariners, what a
weekend you go, You going to Houston, you sweep them,
your three games up, the magic numbers three, you're fifteen
and one or fourteen to one in your past fifteen man,
oh man, these guys are.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Hot in right now.

Speaker 6 (24:35):
Yeah, Rick, it's and the magic number is like a
this is where we live in today's world of baseball.
We're not really sure what the magic numbers. Everyone's been
saying three and then we're kind of doing a little
more digging today it might.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
Actually be two. Wow.

Speaker 6 (24:46):
To clinch a playoff spot.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
They're in.

Speaker 6 (24:49):
So it's you know, for us here in Seattle, with
what the five playoff appearances ever in forty eight years,
forty nine years, we shouldn't get too greedy and maybe
take it for granted. But they're in. They're in the playoffs.
The question is where. And that's what's really fun. They've
gone from probably a wild card team three weeks ago

(25:09):
and you know, probably being they still had some work
to do, but they could probably sneak into wildcard three,
have to play the Wildcard series on the road to start,
to all of a sudden having a chance to win
the division. And now, guys, they are in the driver's
seat to have the two seed behind Toronto in the
American League. And that comes with a first round by
and that allows you to get your rotation. You're starting pitching,

(25:33):
all lined up and ready to go rest your bullpen.
And if they don't get the two seed, I'd be shocked.
Because they play Colorado the next three starting Tomorrow, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
and then the Dodgers, who probably won't be playing for
much this weekend. They'll probably be locked in to the
number three seed in the NL West title by the
time they get here. You know, I think I believe

(25:57):
they're going to have the two seed in the first
round by. It's amazing for this baseball team. We just
we're just not used to that kind of success. We're
not really sure how to handle it. We're all kind
of in a different world mentality and mentally right now,
because this is this is foreign territory for us guys.
We just don't know how to handle this success down here.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
Okay, and one more ian quickly. But JP Crawford hits
a grand slam yesterday over the Astros. And I bring
this up, and I think I've brought this up before,
but his dad was a big deal here in the
in the eighties, Larry Crawford Duck, a great defensive back
for the for the BC Alliance. What JP's been around

(26:34):
for a while, What does he mean to the Mariners.

Speaker 6 (26:36):
He's kind of a he's kind of a heart and
soul guy. And and that's gonna you know, you hear
that cliche, and that term tossed out a lot, a lot.
But you know, JP came here. He had a reputation
for kind of being an underachiever, maybe banged up every
now and then, good glove, but the hitting wasn't great,
and he's kind of a hot and cold hitter. But
he is really, he really is a clubhouse guy, a
glue guy. And I'll tell you the crazy numbers I

(26:57):
was looking at him this morning. His number hitting with
the basses loaded are off the charts. I mean, it's
got a batting average it's above three point fifty. Because
this is career with the basses loaded, on base percentage
above four slug. I mean, it's a he's a better
hitter with the bases loaded than he is normally, and
that you don't see that all that often, you know,

(27:19):
But he's it feels like this team if there's a
big hit to be had more often than not. If
it's not Cal, it's JP and and his defense is slid.
He used to be a goal glover. He's not nearly
the defensive player he once was at shortstop. And we'll
see if that comes back to haunt them a little bit.
But he kind of epitomizes who this team is, you know.

(27:40):
I mean, nobody thought they'd be any good. They people
kind of doubt that these guys all year. Hey, and
the funny thing is, and this is why we we
mentioned this with a crack in a minute ago. It's
while you played it. That's why you play the games.
Cliche Sorry, cliche alert, but that's why you play. Start
of the year, everyone's like, well, great pitching staff, great
starting pitching one through five, and that should give them
some competitiveness, but they can't hit. They can't do this well.

(28:01):
The starting pitching hasn't been good. It's been average, like
by their standards, it's been average. But all of a sudden,
Cal's having this career year. Julio since basically June has
been one of the best hitters in baseball. Naylor has
helped them immensely. Oh Canada, And you know, I mean,
you've got all these guys that have just stepped up
in a big way offensively. Now the pitching is starting
to really kind of get solidified. Gilbert Castile. Their biggest issue.

(28:24):
Who are the three guys are going to start in
a playoff series? You know, I mean, because they've got
really four legitimate guys that should start with Castillo, Gilbert,
Kirby and Wu Miller probably will go to the bullpen.
So who's the guy that doesn't start. That's a great
problem to have, isn't it all? A sudd Your bullpen's
better with one of those guys. So exciting times down here,

(28:44):
I think, And just to answer the three, I think
what it is now? The Mariner sends something out a
short time ago. If they win tomorrow in the Yankees
beat I think if the Yankees win tomorrow, then they
actually clinch a playoff spot. But again, bigger things right now,
we're hoping this team has a first round by celebration.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
At Team Will Park this weekend.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
All right, call your relatives in Saskatchewan and bowing up
on the new CFL rules.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
Yeah, we'll do a test next week. Okay.

Speaker 6 (29:09):
Yeah, most of our Calgary out they're from originally from Saskatchewan. Yeah,
they left the Prairies and got Alberta. We got some
I got some relatives up there in BC two. So yeah,
I heard you're moving the goal posts back. Welcome to
twenty and twenty. Actually, welcome in nineteen eighty five.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
Yeah, Hey, I remember.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
The days when the NFL at the goal post at
the at the goal line seems like yesterday.

Speaker 6 (29:31):
And if you watch those old NFL highlights, when you
see guys crashing into the goalposts all the time at
the goal line like kind of a safety factor. I've
been wondering that for a while.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
Are they moving them all the way back? Well?

Speaker 3 (29:42):
Yes, and well they're going to decrease the size of
the end zone from twenty to fifteen. It used to
be twenty five when I was a kid. But now
it'll be it'll be fifteen yards. Ian, I go back
so far. I remember that there wasn't the single you know,
the single stand goal post.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
It was the goal posts.

Speaker 6 (30:01):
Well that way you could play a soccer match there
at all. Yeah, right, that's that's just fine, you can
do that.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
I listen.

Speaker 6 (30:09):
Congratulations, it's good to see the CFL kind of jump
into the twenty well basically the nineteenth century.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Yes, that's right. Yeah, thanks Ian.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
We'll talk about Ian forness, KGr Sports Radio, Crack and
Hockey Network. You remember Larry Crawford spent nine years with
the Lions in the eighties, part of those great Don
Matthews teams. I think it was a four time CFL
All Star. His nickname was Duck. He was great and
a nice guy.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
Number twenty eight, one of the best defensive backs in
the history of the BC Lines Empire Stadium, the eighty
five team.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
Oh he was so good. Larry Crawford, Elliott Freeman.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
Top of the hour. Fourhand's going to join us next
hour as well. Up next, we'll introduce the poll question.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
Rick Ryan, get her up the Waddling Dog poll question, No, what.

Speaker 4 (31:53):
Is your opinion of the CFL changes announced today? Thumbs
up or thumbs down?

Speaker 1 (31:57):
Or right now? We got and it was just.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
Posted moments ago. Sixty percent sixty seven percent say thumbs up.
Thirty three percent say thumbs down.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Very early. We just found out about the changes moments ago.

Speaker 3 (32:11):
Okay, the changes just to recap before we hear from
Stuart Johnson, you commissioner, christ your commissioner of the cfl
U introduction of a thirty five second play clock. It
had been twenty seconds for a long period of time.
Benches on the opposite side of the fields like that,

(32:35):
no longer a point from missed field goal or a
punt that sails out of the end zone or bounces
out of the end zone without being touched. However, if
a punt kickoff field goal settles in the end zone
and the returner doesn't take it out, a single point
will be awarded.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
A rouche.

Speaker 3 (32:50):
Changes for twenty twenty seven the ones that I just
talked about. The changes that I just talked about are
for twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven. The goalpost
moving to the back of the end zone, which the
NFL did years ago. I will make and we know
one of the reasons to the CFL's defense with a
twenty yard end zone, and it used to be if

(33:10):
I'm not mistaken, twenty five that would have been a big, big,
you know, a big, big.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
Move.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
Given the length of the end zone or the depth
of the end zone, it would have made it make
it very much tougher to.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
Get a field goal.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
They'll make the end zone smaller in all venues will
have the exact same dimensions of fifteen yards. Field will
be shortened from one hundred and ten yards to one
hundred yards. It keeps a field goal in play. The
width will stay the same. The CFL with will say
this stay the same, okay. And we mentioned Stuart Johnson again,

(33:48):
friend of the show, CFL commissioner. He held the press conference.
Is it still going on right now? Right?

Speaker 1 (33:54):
Because it's done.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
He held the press conference earlier this morning in Toronto
to an end these changes. And we'd known about this
press conferences yesterday twenty four forty eight hours whatever the
case may be. And Stuart and the CFL people let
us note that there would be significant changes. We got that,
hence the poll question, and the assembled media did ask

(34:19):
Stuart Johnson some questions and the one thing, and you
were wondering about this, So was I the first thing
that I thought of when I heard that they were
going to be changes. You know, we've been down the
expansion route, the global route, a million things, but we
had a stance it was going to be something to
do with the rule changes. They're going to keep it

(34:39):
at three downs, not to go to the American football
way of four downs. So somebody asked Stuart Johnson about that.
Is that in the plans for somewhere down the road?
Stuart Johnson in Toronto with the media.

Speaker 9 (34:54):
The hardcore fans are going to look at these changes
and think this is going that way? Can you guarantee
that under your watch the CFL will never go to
four downs? I don't offer guarantees. I don't say the
word never. However, I will say this was our major
focus on the rules of the game and the infrastructure
on which we play. I think you're going to hear

(35:15):
a lot from myself and the league with exciting announcements
over the next coming weeks and months. We're not focused
on rules. Of course, we have a rules committee and
it will annually look to tweak and improve our game.
But we have a lot of other exciting announcements we're
working on, and that's our focus.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (35:34):
Now, something else that we thought was interesting is why
announce these changes today.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
Four games left in the regular season, right.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
Yeap, So we just see it seemed a little like,
why would you do that now? And my theory was,
I've heard this answer by the way that you know,
hockey season is going to start. The regular season is
going to start fairly soon in Toronto Blue Jays in
the playoffs. Yes, an announcement like this would get absolutely buried.

(36:02):
Arry didn't do it today, and you waited maybe till
the end of the season, maybe a couple of weeks
from now. I thought from that point of view it
made sense. Here's what Stuart Johnson had to say on
that subject.

Speaker 9 (36:14):
There are a number of reasons why we were moving
forward at this time with this announcement. Number one is
we've got these are fairly significant infrastructure changes. We'd like
to give our teams a year and a half to
consider moving the goalposts, changing their turf. I'd also like
to offer amateur football a good length of time to

(36:35):
consider what these changes could be. And finally, we as
a league are going to move at pace. I want
urgency on the field, and I want urgency in our business,
and we are going to push forward. And I saw
no reason to delay.

Speaker 1 (36:51):
Boy, you like it.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
He's himing across really really well there. That totally made sense. Now,
I don't think somebody involved with the Canadian the league
is going to admit what I just talked about. Yes,
that you're worried about getting buried by the Blue Jays
playoff drive or the start of the National Hockey Believe
regular season NFL, that that sort of thing. But what

(37:14):
he also what he said there too, and I believe him,
is very very true, Let's get it going. We've waited
long enough, you know, decades.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
Like a memo Donnie to every team saying we're doing this,
and the time to really do this is the Great
Cup week, Great Cup.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
You've done done. You've got all the Canadian media and
one city. Yeah, right there. The commissioner's state.

Speaker 3 (37:37):
Of that, you cant get it going now the NHL
season well underway at that point that would get buried
was a this was a smart move, all right, this
was a really good move. Okay, well, visually obviously the
length of the field. Visually when you go to a
game that will be somewhat stunning, but you know, eventually

(37:57):
is it. It's twenty twenty seven. They're moving the goal
post to the back back of the end zone. Again
the NFL did decades ago, and here's Stuart on that subject.

Speaker 9 (38:09):
We had the catch of the year, if not the decade,
but some spectators and certainly our television viewers, didn't get
a great look at it because the goalposts blocked their view.
The Tiger Cats found themselves deep in their own end,
with their options severely limited by the goal posts. Ts
AND's Paul Appolis did a great job of describing just

(38:30):
how limited they were and just how predictable that made
the next play. Argonaut quarterback Nick Arbuckle was in the
scoring zone when a thirteenth defender knocked down what could
have been a thrilling touchdown pass.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
I give you the doink.

Speaker 9 (38:50):
These plays did not incite the changes I'll discuss today,
but they serve as recent, powerful examples that show we
can do better. Our game must continue to evolve and
modernize for our players, our fans, and our partners.

Speaker 3 (39:07):
Now there will be some people saying, and again I
swear when I was growing up, the end zone was
twenty five yards. They decreased it to twenty in large
part because of the dimensions at bc BC Place, And
they'll talk about how well you're gonna it's gonna eliminate
some offense by decreasing the end zone. But I think
that is mitigated, if that's the right word, by the

(39:29):
elimination of the of the goalposts, as Stewart put it
very well, a thirteenth defender in the red zone.

Speaker 4 (39:37):
Now you can throw it in the middle of the field.
You don't have to worry about what happened right there
in that video.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
Yeah, a long time coming. And again these are I
again Ian Furness joked about it. You know, it's about time.
There aren't just changes that they're bold changes. And there's
probably some people who in the owner's meeting probably didn't
like this, but it's you got to do something. And

(40:05):
every single move here, I'm looking at it and I'm thinking, yeah,
I've thought about that, you've thought about that. Most people
follow the CFL. Yeah, that's something that needed to be done.
And we'll see what happens with three to going from
three to four stay.

Speaker 4 (40:18):
Status quo in a league forever done. You have to adapt,
especially now when it's harder and harder to get young
kids to go to games.

Speaker 1 (40:26):
Harder if you love the NFL.

Speaker 4 (40:27):
So much, and we get this all the time, and
it really makes me mad. Don't compare the NFL to
the CFL. Stop it, just stop it. If I love
the CFL, I love the CFL. Don't throw the NFL
crap at me. And anyways, this is going to keep
the league fresh and it's a good move today.

Speaker 3 (40:44):
Yeah, and it gives them some pr and it'll be
very very interesting to watch. And we talked about it earlier.
Major League Baseball made that change with a pitch clock.
It's made the game better. I'll go way back NBA
the twenty four second clock over and back NHL. All
the changes four in five games, way better and the

(41:05):
game's way better. The NFL's made changes as well. Okay,
I know we've got some business to do. Let's however,
we're way behind, so let's take a break and we'll
wait for Elliott at the top of the hour, Big
Ryan Nex, Donnie Delly the.

Speaker 1 (41:18):
Team on check.

Speaker 3 (41:26):
Just I had a big Rye the quitter guy early.
Is it just me from RP and White Rock and
I think fed listener and viewer because Donnie, you're right.
End zones were twenty five yards remembered Empire with the
track around the field, the corners of the end zone
were cut off, and then they eventually would changed it
to twenty yards, yes, a little short of now it
will be eventually fifteen yards.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
You remember that, right, big Rye, of course, of course. Yeah. Sure.
It is a positive day in my opinion for the
CFL today. And two things.

Speaker 3 (41:58):
Oh, the changes I think are all are all positive
if you ask me, They've been a long time coming,
no matter what you think of the fact they didn't
go from three downs to four downs. And I thought
Stuart Johnson came across incredibly wellader.

Speaker 5 (42:12):
I appreciate him saying let's get going here, like let's like,
why are we just letting time tick by?

Speaker 1 (42:18):
You know, let's let's let's let's let's get a want
to do something. Yeah, and I I do agree with Rick.
I'm a little I think this is kind of announcement
could have been in a big great Cup week type thing.
It should have been. It's a little surprising. It's a
little surprising.

Speaker 3 (42:33):
No, I'll tell you why. And and well I told
you one of the reasons why. It's like it's about
NFL still going on during during Gray Cup. I think
you stay away from that.

Speaker 1 (42:44):
Is it better.

Speaker 3 (42:44):
You're gonna make news in Gray Cup week anyway? Is
it better to make.

Speaker 1 (42:48):
The news once or twice? Yeah? This case, no.

Speaker 5 (42:51):
And I also wonder if they worry about leaks. Yeah, right,
like once this is passed by the Border Governor of
the year, exactly, exactly.

Speaker 1 (43:02):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (43:03):
Over the weekend, Rick had a by the way, we'll
get to the Canucks preseason game, We'll get to lots
of hockey.

Speaker 1 (43:09):
There's still another hour and a bit left in the show,
so there's plenty of time. But I want to talk
about No.

Speaker 5 (43:14):
But I'm just getting that out there because I know
some people probably are frothing at the mouth watching the
show right now with.

Speaker 1 (43:19):
No lost the crocket. There you go.

Speaker 5 (43:22):
But one thing I tweeted out over the weekend, and
I know Rick probably this brought a twinkle to his eye.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
It was hold on, It's big ride the Twitter guy.

Speaker 3 (43:31):
Yeah, and you've scoured the internet, scoured Twitter, and you
came up with something you tweeted.

Speaker 5 (43:38):
No, No, the reaction to the Blue Jays and there's celebration.

Speaker 1 (43:45):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (43:45):
Yeah, So they over the weekend they clinch a playoff spot.
That's all they did, was clinch a playoff spot ninety
wins so far, and this is the scene in the
locker room postgame. And look at this is not a
Jay's only thing, because this happens across the MLB.

Speaker 1 (44:00):
They all do this. And of course a lot of
people's reaction to this was, wait, are they gonna do
this again?

Speaker 5 (44:05):
When they clinched the Al East, Like is that gonna
happen again? And then I have And so I had
a mixed reaction when I brought this up that I
don't know when this happened in the MLB. I don't
know when it changed and this became a thing with
the goggles and the lights and the party and the
champagne after every little playoff thing.

Speaker 1 (44:23):
I don't know when exactly that occurred.

Speaker 5 (44:25):
But the last little while that has occurred, it has
become a bigger and bigger deal. And I just don't
I don't get it that if you didn't know anything,
and I and I'm just we just played that clip,
you would most people, I think, would have assumed they
won the World Series, they won a title. Wean't that
good for them? They won a championship, a major trophy,
good for them. I think they punched the ticket to

(44:46):
the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (44:47):
Yeah, well, I mean somebody who really enjoys that. Manufacturers
of ski goggles, you saw.

Speaker 1 (44:54):
The new eraror branding by the way all over the
goggles there.

Speaker 3 (44:57):
You know, sales have gone way up. Yes, all this started.
Is it a little bit different? Is it excusable in baseball?
Because the season is so I know, And that was
a lot of people's response to me.

Speaker 5 (45:08):
And I get that it's grueling, it's long, all of that,
but all you did, like in this case, all you
did was did your job. You made the playoffs, the.

Speaker 4 (45:16):
Map, made the playoffs nine years in a row. And
you think Toronto fans are happy they're out and ride
the round or two every year, right, and these guys
throw a party like they won the world.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
I don't get again.

Speaker 5 (45:28):
And again, it's not a jet, it's not.

Speaker 1 (45:30):
A Jays exclusive thing culture. I don't know what. It
makes no sense. It doesn't make any sense because again,
so okay, so they did this now there is a
question now but the al least will they do it again?

Speaker 5 (45:41):
But then also after every playoff wins, if they advance
in the divisional round to get to the CS, they're
gonna do it again.

Speaker 1 (45:47):
And then the CS. They're gonna do it again, like
every team's doing it. It's not a Toronto thing. Also,
are you an old man? Now? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (45:57):
I get these guys are in their twenties mostly there
any excuse.

Speaker 1 (46:01):
The party at that age. Yeah, but but I do
the same thing.

Speaker 5 (46:04):
But again, okay, but there's a difference between celebrating and
being happy. And even if you get the T shirts
and the hats, fine, but the goggles and the champagne
and everything else, that's crazy.

Speaker 1 (46:14):
How do you want up this for a chance?

Speaker 3 (46:17):
You telling member that Dolly one, you'd be shaking up
all the crown No it.

Speaker 1 (46:24):
Do you remember when the Red Wings made the playoffs
for like twenty years in a row. Yeah, you guys
remember that? Here you did? They do this every time
they made the clinch the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (46:32):
But eighty two game schedule versus one sixty way more
physical and hockey basically, give me a break those o
The season is longer, but hockey.

Speaker 1 (46:41):
Some of those guys limp into the postseason. Yes, I
bet you.

Speaker 3 (46:44):
The hockey players look at that and go, how M
should be doing that?

Speaker 1 (46:46):
Actually, that's funny. Some of them might. Some of them might.
But the MLB is the only one you don't see
in the NFL. You don't see it in based basketball.
It's a different culture. Are you telling me if you
were in that dress and you two, if you're in
that locker room, you're not right there with the guys. No, No,
it's a precedent.

Speaker 5 (47:04):
I mean, I'm not gonna be the one sitting in
the corner going I don't like this you.

Speaker 4 (47:08):
I mean, does Tom Brady brag about clinching playoffs?

Speaker 1 (47:12):
Does brag about all the rings on his fingers?

Speaker 5 (47:14):
Right, that's the other part of it, Like you're celebrating
just getting into the place. What if I don't think
it will happen? What if they get swept? Dumb like,
what if they don't win a playoff game? What if
they get swept?

Speaker 3 (47:25):
This is the twenties, even thirties, and excuse the party.

Speaker 1 (47:28):
What's the goal at spring training? Win the World Series?

Speaker 7 (47:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (47:32):
Right now?

Speaker 1 (47:33):
You think they're right there? Right? You think they won
the World Series. That's what I'm saying. If you, if
if I just showed you this clip.

Speaker 3 (47:40):
Playoffs spots are more precious in baseball than they.

Speaker 4 (47:43):
Are well there's not as many obviously, but again, you
just did your job.

Speaker 5 (47:47):
You made the playoffs, like they're going to potentially do
this exact celebration, what five times if they win the
whole thing?

Speaker 1 (47:54):
Get the vibe. I forgot you. You come from that
party background. This is a embarrassing I agree. I'm they
better not do this when they clinch the.

Speaker 3 (48:04):
Oh shit, embarrassing when every other team that clinches a
playoff spot will do the same thing.

Speaker 1 (48:09):
I don't like it. I don't want it embarrassing.

Speaker 4 (48:11):
When the Canucks finally made the playoffs two years ago,
did they do monkey culture?

Speaker 1 (48:15):
Football culture?

Speaker 3 (48:16):
It's different, basketball culture, different than baseball.

Speaker 1 (48:19):
I also think the goggles are a cop out. They're soft.
The players from the old times, they would say, you
are proving how little you've played it. No, honest champagne
in my eyes. It's not fun.

Speaker 5 (48:31):
And I don't remember the quote from the player. They
said one of the worst pains in their life was
the champagne in their eyes. But it felt so good
because they knew they accomplished something. These guys now with
their goggles, that's soft cop out.

Speaker 1 (48:42):
Freeman's up next. It's Donnie the team on check.

Speaker 3 (48:46):
Hey everyone, it's Donnie and Duney and we're looking to
partner with your company.

Speaker 4 (48:50):
We have several packages and price points to fit your
budget and spread the word about your company on the show,
in our podcast, and on social media.

Speaker 3 (48:59):
We'd love to get in with your company. Called two

and we will brought to you by Bissant Motors. The

(49:24):
return of the show means Baissant Motors is also getting

is up to thirty four thousand dollars.

Speaker 1 (49:31):
Pissant in Cirril Crazer Highway.

Speaker 3 (49:33):
If you know on graduating high school senior Rick, get
them to check out the details at Poissant Motors b
as a nt motors dot com.

Speaker 1 (49:46):
How are you dealing with Elliott? We're just waiting on him. Okay,
see he's going to be a moment.

Speaker 3 (49:51):
Were you able to get the Canuck game?

Speaker 4 (49:53):
I saw the Canucks game last night on television. Took
me a good twenty thirty four.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
Sort of the legal setup that you have stop.

Speaker 1 (50:00):
I got them.

Speaker 4 (50:02):
Some I got a box and on that box, I
didn't know that I could watch all these games.

Speaker 1 (50:08):
I'm set now up. But you did you watch it? Well?
I watched it. It was beautiful. It was lovely.

Speaker 3 (50:13):
Braiden Koots.

Speaker 1 (50:14):
You know I'm looking at their centers. Oh, they're all lefties.
Braiden Coots is a right handed center. Well he at
the very least.

Speaker 3 (50:20):
Maybe, I mean it's so early, but he looked very
comfortable sharp a training camp, same thing yesterday assisting on
the on the Man's Sceni goal.

Speaker 1 (50:28):
Maybe he gets the nine games. Rick.

Speaker 4 (50:30):
There's a trust factor right now with the Coots and
the coaches. One pro scout told me last night, Donnie,
he looks like a young Bullhorvat. He's making it hard
for the Canucks to cut him, making them think he's
going to be a hard cut and just may hang
around to start the season. I don't know, Donnis, Ernie,
but he is gaining trust every day. Smart, defensively, offensive instincts.

(50:53):
You saw on the Man's scene goal. He wins face offs.
He's a high character kid. Great draft pick. But are
we are?

Speaker 1 (51:00):
Are we jumping the gun? You're getting too excited?

Speaker 3 (51:02):
Well, of course we are. It's Vancouver.

Speaker 4 (51:04):
It's Vancouver, so are we gonna go nuts? But good
on the kid? Watch this play right here?

Speaker 1 (51:09):
Nice?

Speaker 3 (51:09):
Nice that was on a power play and it's just
Also Victor Mancini has to impressed a lot of people
as well. Elliott joins us now from Hockey Encounada the
thirty two Thoughts podcast.

Speaker 1 (51:19):
Ellieah, thanks for doing this, sir.

Speaker 8 (51:20):
How are you guys? I'm great. Remember it's the first
week with all the kids as good as they look.
The veterans don't care this week. It's next week, next week.
Where you see. It's good. He's putting up a good showing.
It's good. He's impressing people. But you got away through

(51:41):
the second week to see if he's really got a
shot to make the team.

Speaker 3 (51:44):
Are you laying down right now?

Speaker 8 (51:47):
Uh, it's sort of.

Speaker 1 (51:48):
He's scratching your lay. Listen, you're the busiest You're the
busiest guy in the planet. You deserve arrest.

Speaker 8 (51:55):
No, you know what, I've got a bit of an injury.
I'm healing. I've got a so I've got to take it.
I got to be off my feet.

Speaker 1 (52:03):
No details.

Speaker 8 (52:06):
Yeah, you know what. I got like a turf toe
and it hurts man, it really and this is why
you should never work out. This is stupid because when
you work out you get injuries like a turf toe.

Speaker 3 (52:22):
Yeah, that's one of those injuries.

Speaker 1 (52:24):
Turf toe.

Speaker 3 (52:24):
I've never had it, but it's one of those injuries
you hear about a lot.

Speaker 1 (52:28):
And how bad could it be? Anybody I know that's
had it?

Speaker 3 (52:31):
He says, it's extremely painful.

Speaker 1 (52:33):
So we feel for you, buddy.

Speaker 8 (52:35):
I woke up this morning. I was in agony. It's
it's brutal. It's just brutal.

Speaker 1 (52:39):
Well, yeah, Ain' five three five roup, get up? Cut
it on.

Speaker 8 (52:44):
That's a b it's for like a bone. Five five
doesn't work for bones? What's from us?

Speaker 3 (52:50):
Rick uses it on everything. Hey, Elliet, let's get serious
for a second. Bernie per leaves us at the age
of eighty.

Speaker 1 (52:59):
I know you're younger than I am.

Speaker 3 (53:00):
But your memories of the late great Bernie parun boy,
what is it with the Hall of Fame Goaltenders lately
Edge Jockaman and Ken Right and now yeah, he Bernie,
but your memories of him and what he meant to
the Flyers franchise.

Speaker 8 (53:15):
Well, one of the best players in franchise history. They
probably don't win the two Cups without them. Kelly Rudy's
favorite goalie. He always talked about what a big fan
he was of Bernie Parant. I had two opportunities. Don
had a chance to do stuff with Bernie Parant. I
hosted once the press conference for the Outdoor Game in
Ottawa and he was there and he was great to

(53:37):
deal with. And during the twenty ten Stanley Cup battle
between Philadelphia and Chicago, I did it. They hadn't knocked
down the spectrum yet, so it was across the street
from where the Flyers were playing, and we did a
tour like he walked me through it and he remembered
some of the places he played in the dratsing room
where before they won the Stanley Cup the first time,
their coach Fred Schiro told them, you win today and

(54:00):
walk together forever. And it's just at such a big
smile when he said that. And I was mentioning on
our podcast this morning, Dawn, that I have a book
at home. It's a really fascinating book. It's basically it's
by a guy named Greg Oliver and there's a leaf
fan collector that he knows and is basically it's an
exhibition of documents that this fan had in his house,

(54:23):
and it's old contracts and old letters from the team
to the players. There's sponsorship agreements, you know, there's all
sorts of correspondence. And you know, people who are of
my vintage and closer to yours done, they will tell
you that the worst mistake the Mayple Lice ever made
in about five decades of lots of them was Bernie Parant.

(54:43):
He was a Leaf goalie in nineteen seventy two and
in the book is the contract a three year offer
for one hundred and sixty seven five hundred dollars, and
he turned it down, got bigger money in the wha,
refused to go back to the lease and went back
to Philly. And you wonder how different were have been
if Toronto would given him a fair offer with the

(55:05):
flyers of any Stanley cups with the Toronto franchise have
been different. But happily for Vancouver fans, they mucked it
up and it never happened.

Speaker 3 (55:12):
Yeah, it was strange given their history and what we
know about them. Strange chapter in Leafs Hockey Bernie Parunt
and Jacque Navlon, their goaltending tanem for a short period
of time in the seventies.

Speaker 1 (55:24):
Hey Elliott, New York Rangers, do you understand why.

Speaker 3 (55:28):
I know this story is a little bit old, but
we haven't had John for a couple of weeks. Do
you understand why they made former conduct JT. Miller their captain.

Speaker 8 (55:36):
I was a little bit surprised, But what I think,
what I think they are saying here, what they are
going for here is that last year was not acceptable
and they want to completely turn the page on it.
To be honest, don I thought they would go tro Check.
I really did. I thought he was going to be
the guy, but they didn't. And I think it was

(55:58):
basically I think it was the New York Rangers saying,
what happened last year is over. What happened last year
was unacceptable, and we are going to turn the page.
And that's why we're going to have a new player,
or a relatively new player, where the captaincy someone who
really wasn't tied into what happened last year. And I

(56:19):
think that was their thought process. I mean, look, everybody
knows that last year in Vancouver, Miller was part of
a big part of what went wrong. Everybody gets a
chance to start over again. Everybody gets a chance to
prove that a new year is different. You know, you're
going through that this year with Petterson. He's trying to

(56:39):
show that this year is going to be different and better.
But I do think that he was named the captain
in New York because they didn't want anybody tainted by
last year to be wearing it. That's that's the way
I saw it myself.

Speaker 4 (56:53):
Elliott, so far, so good about Petterson. You just mentioned him.
You know, he did good in his skates, practiced cap everything.
They're raving about him. Patrick Alban was raving about him yesterday.
But that second line center is still a big question
all het in Vancouver. How long do you think they
give heatl a run there before they might have to
make a change.

Speaker 8 (57:15):
To be honest, Rick, and you know this better than anybody.
If the Canucks can make a change, they would have
done it already. Yeah, I mean you know how you
know how Jim Rutherford feels. He would like to have
done something already, but there's just nothing available to him
out there. And part of that problem is we've talked
about several times that there's only one team will be
waiving the right flag at the start of the season,

(57:35):
and their top two centers are Sydney Crosby and you're
game bulk, and so those guys aren't getting traded. So
I think that's the issue. So, you know, the only
thing you can do, in barring something showing up is
that we aren't seeing right now, is that you solve
the problem yourself. And you know, the thing about Patterson
is I kind of had a little bit of a

(57:56):
chuckle about some of the things that have been said
with them. You know, everybody clearly wants It's obvious sometimes
when people say too many nice things about me, I'm like,
what do you want? Or what's the ulterior remotive here?
You know, with Peterson, it's just very clear that they
want him to know that the organization's very happy with

(58:16):
him and they're trying to support him. I think some
of it's a little much at times, but I understand
that that's the way it works, especially when you're dealing
with someone who had a bit of a confidence issue
last year and you're trying to make sure he starts
the season the right way. But you know, Rick, it
takes two to tango, and there's there's there's nobody else
you know, Mason McTavish, I don't really get the sense

(58:37):
that despite what's going on with the Ducks, they're not
really too eager to trade them. And even if they were,
imagine the hall it would cost to get them. You know.
The other thing too about the about the Canucks is
you know they you know, they weren't really intrigued on
you know, trading like guys like Rattu in the off season.
So they they really want to give some of these

(59:00):
guys a shot. They really want to make sure they're
not shorthanded down the middle, and ultimately, at least at
the start of the season, they're probably gonna have to
fix this from what the in or sort this out
from with them. And again too, like I know, Rick
like one game, Like I read some of the reports
last night. You know, HETL didn't have a great night
and the face off dall or whatever like to me.

(59:22):
And I really do believe this week two. Week one
is about just dipping your toe in the water. Week
two is when you really get an idea of who's
sticking in where everybody is, especially for veterans. I can't
freak out about the first week of preseason hockey.

Speaker 1 (59:39):
No No, that's true.

Speaker 4 (59:40):
Okay, you mentioned Mason mcdavish, Luke Hughes still not signed,
and then Jack Roslovic.

Speaker 1 (59:45):
What's what's going on with Jack?

Speaker 8 (59:48):
You know, it's I just guess it's he's not too
interested in taking a PTO. Like I think there were
some PTOs to him, and I don't think that it
was interested. And he's still trying to wait to see
what the right opportunity is, you know. I obviously there
were some options for him earlier in the earlier in

(01:00:10):
the summer, he didn't take them, and now he's kind
of waiting and just seeing when does the right opportunity
open up. Does somebody have to move somebody to to
make room for him? You know, definitely, Toronto has been
one of the teams that they had some of the
most conversation with even before the agent switch. But you know,
Toronto's got a lot of forwards. They got a lot

(01:00:32):
of guys, and they're going to have to move some
guys out, so I can see them not being too
eager to add anybody right now. But I just heard
he wasn't too interested in the PTO and he's kind
of waiting to see how things shake out.

Speaker 3 (01:00:44):
Wow, the Rice method rest elevation, rest ice compression and
elevation nowhere, and I looked it up. When it comes
to turf toe, nowhere does anyone mention the remedy rub a.

Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
Stay away from that, Aliot. Okay, hey, right.

Speaker 8 (01:01:01):
You know what. I'll tell you this. I don't have
a medical degree, but I was pretty sure that I
was on the right trail off.

Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
A couple of weeks. We'll talk to Elliott. Thanks for this, all.

Speaker 8 (01:01:12):
Right, guys, you take care of have a great week you.

Speaker 3 (01:01:14):
Bet, Elliott Freeman, Hockey Night in Canada, thirty two Thoughts podcast.
Don't read too much into one game.

Speaker 1 (01:01:22):
You're like that, you stop.

Speaker 4 (01:01:23):
But I see these guys on the weekend giving Coots.
Oh he was great in ped Ticton. Oh, give him
a spot. He's gonna play nine games, jump in the gun.
Give the kid time.

Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
But at least you know, from a Connock point of view,
launch suffering Condock fans, it's been more positive than negative.
So there's that, and I understand why some people might
take things a little too far.

Speaker 4 (01:01:41):
Well, the best thing Coots can do is make it
hard for the Connecks to cut them. He could have
been they sent some junior age. Could they set their
second round pick Medvedad Ontario on the weekend. They didn't
send him because he's impressing, he's making it hard.

Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Good for him.

Speaker 3 (01:01:55):
Like I said earlier, they need right handed centers in
the organization. Okay, how about if I do able right now?
Should you do that? Okay, let's do that Thursday. Able

(01:03:36):
in the week than usual. Prot to you by percent motors. Okay,
just before we get to Farhand in case you missed it,
the CFL holding a press conference day to announce some
significant changes, in this case, changes to what we're going
to see on the field. We've got that board here,
there you go, I'll go. This is twenty twenty six changes.

(01:04:00):
Let's start there at the bottom of this board. Modified rouge,
so if you've kicked the ball out of the end zone,
you don't get a single point, no more points punted
out of the end zone. Automatic playclock pardon me, goes
from thirty five to twenty.

Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
That would be a change.

Speaker 3 (01:04:19):
Goes from thirty five or from twenty to thirty five seconds.
It's forty seconds in the NFL. Oh Man, I think
forheand just left the team bench locations on opposite sides.

Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
In twenty twenty seven.

Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
The goalposts will be moved to the back of the
end zone, which will be fifteen yards now from twenty yards.

Speaker 1 (01:04:40):
And a short and progressive changes.

Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
Short and field from one hundred and ten yards to
one hundreds are joint now by farhand logy from tiercent Ryan,
are you.

Speaker 1 (01:04:50):
Like three years old? Like? How old are you? You know?

Speaker 3 (01:04:53):
Forirehand joins us, Now, how are you, sir?

Speaker 7 (01:04:59):
Use the term mighty. I'm not going to say a
second word.

Speaker 10 (01:05:01):
Yeah, but it led to a lot of laughs, and uh,
you know, I think this is going to for a while.
I think we should have this on a loop. I
think it should be played regularly part of the blue Perial,
not just at the end of the year, but you know,
maybe every week.

Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
You know, I thought I made a mistake for and
then I'm looking at you, what what's going on here?

Speaker 1 (01:05:18):
You're are you behind?

Speaker 10 (01:05:20):
I'm at a lot the Lions facility right here, I'm
just just leaning up against the fence. I can I
don't have I don't have a I don't have a tripod,
so I figured I could just do it this way.
But speaking of no, look, I hear there you go. Yeah,
it looks like you're there, you go. I think the
changes are positive.

Speaker 1 (01:05:39):
I do.

Speaker 10 (01:05:39):
And now people are going to say, oh, you're just
you know, you're trying to favor the league and support
all this. It's not true, right, I view all of
this stuff as a football person and what could make
the game better.

Speaker 1 (01:05:48):
Now.

Speaker 7 (01:05:48):
I don't like the goal post in the front of
the end zone. I never have.

Speaker 10 (01:05:51):
I think that's a quirky part of this league that
hasn't made the league better. Like go look at Tody
Fajardo and the Saskatchewan rough Rider. It was it four
years ago and the final final play the game open
receiver in the end zone and the ball hits the
crossbark like, that's not good. Quirky and unique doesn't make
it good. And I think sometimes apologists of the league

(01:06:11):
and its current setup are obsessed with that.

Speaker 7 (01:06:14):
The no, no, no, it's our game. This is what makes
it unique. It's nonsense.

Speaker 10 (01:06:17):
And I've always hated the loser point, right, Like the
loser point is the rouge when you can't return the
kick if.

Speaker 7 (01:06:24):
You want to concede.

Speaker 10 (01:06:26):
Some people view it as an offensive reward for getting
the ball a certain ways down the field. I view
it as a defensive strategy. I'm choosing to give up
the point to get.

Speaker 7 (01:06:34):
Better field position. Well, I need to have that option.

Speaker 10 (01:06:37):
I don't like the thought of seeing a game decided
by failure. Not only that, I hate this thought or
the visual of a kicker missing the field goal at
the end of a game and celebrating anyway, right, Like,
it's it's ridiculous. You know, those are moments where the
league can be mocked. So it's you know, we got
to eliminate moments where the league can be mocked. So

(01:06:57):
all of these rules, in my opinion, are connected and
they need to be viewed in totality. Okay, we're getting
the goalposts out, so we're shortening the end zones as
a concession, We're making the field ten yards shorter, so
it's a little easier to get into field goal range. Like,
all of these are connected and they have to be viewed.
They can't just be cherry picked at.

Speaker 1 (01:07:15):
Are you okay?

Speaker 3 (01:07:16):
With the clock going from twenty to thirty five seconds.

Speaker 10 (01:07:19):
Forran totally because it's not going to make the difference
that you think it's going to add consistency. And the
people who think twenty seconds it's so much faster of
a game, they're wrong because of when the clock starts.
So in the NFL, yeah, it's a forty second clock,
but it starts immediately after the previous play. There's no
judgment for the official to put the ball into place.
So if you actually look at the end of the

(01:07:40):
previous play to when the next play starts, in most
cases it's close to thirty five seconds. In some cases
it's up to fifty because the field right, we've seen
more and more fields of both ventures on the same side,
so now you're down on one side of the field,
you've got to be allowed to substitute.

Speaker 7 (01:07:55):
You come all the way in, so it affects when
play is blown in.

Speaker 10 (01:07:58):
So it's not like it's twenty seconds bam bam bam
the way people think. It's not like that, so you
won't notice it until the end of a game. Because
now a team has the ability to run more time
off the clock. So what things have they done to
make up for that? Well, we can't be on the
same side anymore. And they've added a third time out
and you can accumulate timeouts, so you potentially could have

(01:08:18):
three timeouts at the end of a game and could
stop the clock like the twenty second clock currently afford.
So it's not going to make the change people think,
and it's actually still going to be faster than the
NFL play clock.

Speaker 4 (01:08:31):
When it was released that there's a big changes coming.
The first thing a lot of people worried about, including me,
are they going to four downs? But they kept it
at three?

Speaker 1 (01:08:40):
But could they go to four downs down the road?

Speaker 10 (01:08:44):
Well, like anything is possible. However, I can tell you
that when they had these discussions, four downs was never discussed.

Speaker 7 (01:08:51):
It wasn't part of the conversation.

Speaker 1 (01:08:52):
Right.

Speaker 7 (01:08:53):
You know, people are talking to me about the ratio.
That's the CBA issue.

Speaker 10 (01:08:55):
That's got nothing to do with with this, right, and
this is actual game of play decisions. Four downs was
never discussed in the process. So you know, the length
of the field, for example, people are gonna saye hundred yards,
But it's not the length of the field that makes
the CFL game unique.

Speaker 7 (01:09:11):
It's the winds of the field.

Speaker 10 (01:09:13):
Right, sixty five yards to accommodate the twelfth player, all
the motion, all.

Speaker 7 (01:09:17):
Those types of things.

Speaker 10 (01:09:18):
That's what you look at a CFL game, and that's
what makes it look unique.

Speaker 7 (01:09:23):
It's not the length of the field, right, So you know, people.

Speaker 10 (01:09:26):
Automatically wanted to fall to them trying to make it
more American. Might that happen one day, who knows, but
it wasn't part of these conversations.

Speaker 4 (01:09:33):
Okay, what about minor football adjustments? The municipalities won't be
able to move some of these uprights. I mean, everybody's
got to get on board.

Speaker 1 (01:09:42):
Is that not correct?

Speaker 10 (01:09:44):
Nope, But like I think, eventually they will, and it's
going to be easier to accommodate the CFL field. If
there's twenty yards less length to the field, right, you
can accommodate it in more field spaces. So look, I
remember sitting on the User Group committee a Burnaby Lake
Sports Complex and like the late nineties and right then
we were able to accommodate the field with multiple sets

(01:10:04):
of sleeves for Canadian and American football. Because the high
school game here is played Americans, so will football Canada
and the provinces at some point bring their minor football
into alignment with this maybe. You know, I think that's
part of one of the reasons why they looked at
potentially twenty twenty seven for some of the field, you know,
field type changes, because it might take more time for

(01:10:25):
some of them to digest and decide they want to
go with. But I do think it opens the door
for that to happen, and eventually it will.

Speaker 7 (01:10:33):
You know, you have a lot of old school people
around this league, people that.

Speaker 10 (01:10:36):
Don't want to make change for the sake of not
wanting to make change as opposed to the other way around.
I think I think these are positive changes, and once
people see that, I think they'll start eking towards the
finish line here.

Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
You've never looked better.

Speaker 3 (01:10:50):
Look look back on this interview and you'll see what
I what I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
Spider Man.

Speaker 4 (01:10:55):
Yeah, you're You're underneath the Spider and it's just shadow
from the chain link fence.

Speaker 1 (01:11:01):
Yeah, okay, shadow, Yeah, our good power.

Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
And I'm kidding you. You always look good, buddy, Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:11:08):
Our good power. Jeff Patterson said he's got a face
tattoo kind of looks like.

Speaker 7 (01:11:12):
Yeah, oh wow, okay, I like it.

Speaker 1 (01:11:15):
How do you how do you not see that though.

Speaker 7 (01:11:19):
Right here, we're here now.

Speaker 10 (01:11:21):
Like I said, I was leaning up against the fence
to try to hold my arms still because I'm holding
the phone. And obviously, you know, like like with the
CFL rules, there are always unintended consequences, and the face
shadow the face statue was one of them.

Speaker 7 (01:11:33):
But see now I look clean.

Speaker 1 (01:11:34):
Yeah, I think you look better the other way. Go
back about three feet, spider man. Okay, thanks for having
we gotta go perfect. There you go beautiful? All right?

Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
Farhad lollsy tsn A is the CFL makes changes to
its game pole question?

Speaker 1 (01:11:49):

with the CFL rule changes.

Nick Kepler. You know what, Honestly, I think I've lost
when he got against Wally.

Speaker 5 (01:13:25):

BC line before I have lost that card. Actually I
can't find it.

There's been a lot of people who have been employed
by the CFL, and Nick Kepler has good hair.

Speaker 1 (01:13:43):
But I got to say, check out Wally's lid here.

Speaker 3 (01:13:47):
You know, Wally's one of these guys you've seen him lately,
lost any hair?

Speaker 1 (01:13:51):

said ninety four, it's cool, it's Ryan. Last week he

Speaker 1 (01:20:31):
Donnie. He's big, he can skate and scored. No fear
with the pock he loves.

Speaker 4 (01:20:35):
He loves to stick handled, and he was a little
reckless at times in the American Hockey League last year
with that. But this kid he showed you last night again.

Speaker 1 (01:20:43):
He's got pretty good potential.

Speaker 3 (01:20:45):
Remid he lost Craig Button. He's on the show toron
what he thinks of Victor Mancini's NHL future looks like.

Speaker 1 (01:20:52):
NBI RAJ is just me.

Speaker 3 (01:20:54):
Worst spinoff show ever. Joni loves Chacci worst than the
three Cump threes Company spin off.

Speaker 1 (01:21:00):

Speaker 4 (01:21:16):
You're just John Ritter a fabulous, fabulous, fabulous comedian.

Speaker 1 (01:21:20):
Suzanne summers.

Speaker 3 (01:21:21):
Oh yeah, Garthen, just you can relax for a second.

Speaker 1 (01:21:27):
I'll read this one Garth and Ladner. Is it just me?

Speaker 3 (01:21:30):
Or should the NFL adopt a CFL three minutes stop time?
Nothing more boring than seeing a team take a knee
for the last two minutes. We've seen people in the
inbox today talk about the three minute clock at the
end of games, at the end of half's in the
Canadian Football League. It's great when games are close. When
games are lopsided, it makes the games go on way

(01:21:53):
too long. Some people, two people in our inbox have said, hey,
what about two minutes instead of three minutes? It's puss
and minuses with both. But I, you know, like I
I've had this argument for a long time with NFL people,
people who just adore the NFL and don't have time
for any other type of football that they love to
see clock management. They enjoy seeing a coach that manages

(01:22:16):
the clock. Well, I don't. I don't and I said
clock By the way, Ryan, I don't enjoy watching coaches coach.

Speaker 1 (01:22:24):
I want to see players play. Yeah, I'm with you
on that one. I'm with there.

Speaker 4 (01:22:28):
Is it just me or was Elliott trying to replicate
the Burt Reynolds Cosmopolitan centerfold position Steven North.

Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
Did you get a shot of that Ryan bur Burt Reynolds,
I'm not Burt Reynolds. Burt was the best best mustache
in Hollywood. Yeah, but do you remember his I do remember?

Speaker 3 (01:22:44):
Proposed nude?

Speaker 1 (01:22:45):
No, he was. It was in Playboy.

Speaker 3 (01:22:48):
It was a play girl I think, yeah, there was
a magazine called play Girl right there. Burt Reynolds.

Speaker 1 (01:22:53):
Look at this guy.

Speaker 3 (01:22:54):
Yeah, and Elliott looked very well, somewhat similar to that.
Today's it all because of turfte Yeah. I think Bert
is suffering from turf till there.

Speaker 1 (01:23:06):
I miss Bert. He was the longest shard was smiling
like that. And deliverance. That's all r stop.

Speaker 4 (01:23:12):
We can't talk about deliverance, but great movies. Bert the
best mustache ever in Hollywood right.

Speaker 3 (01:23:18):
There with his best movie, well, longest, come on, Boogie Nights,
Bugi Knights, the bandit, what was the band smoking?

Speaker 1 (01:23:30):
Oh? That was good.

Speaker 4 (01:23:32):
Go Kobe Bryant would never celebrate till they actually won,
not just clinching the playoffs. Jem Rock great, uh, great
submission here by Jim Rock. Kobe Bryant would not have
done what the Blue Jays did yesterday, stupidly celebrating a
playoff Berth Kobe wouldn't Kobe wants the NBA Championship.

Speaker 3 (01:23:50):
If you were in the Blue Jays, if you were
on the Blue Jays.

Speaker 1 (01:23:53):
You would be you'd be front and center.

Speaker 3 (01:23:55):
What do you tell me what it would be? Crowned
not Champagne. I don't have a problem with that.

Speaker 1 (01:23:59):
You think the Stanley Cup winner cares about the day
they clinched the playoff? Spot done?

Speaker 3 (01:24:04):
Kevin and Klona? Is it just me but the different culture?
But the angle Elliott is sitting at on camera, do
you have a shot of that a still by any chance?

Speaker 1 (01:24:13):
I feel like he wants to sell me.

Speaker 3 (01:24:14):
Old spice or and then something else that I can't mention.
It something of a deodorant commercial. He's kind of laying
down for people who missed it.

Speaker 1 (01:24:26):
Well.

Speaker 4 (01:24:26):
Braiden and Abersburg didn't like what the Blue Jays did.
He says, half these guys in the roster to bubblegum,
eat spits and do nothing in the dugout for half
their games.

Speaker 3 (01:24:36):
Braiden, there goes my argument about for some people anyway,
one hundred and sixty two games and maybe you're more
likely to celebrate after that. Grind.

Speaker 1 (01:24:44):
I'm a Jays fan, but I don't like that crap yesterday?
Is it just me? I agree with Ryan?

Speaker 3 (01:24:49):
I know the P and E Demolition Derby is nowhere
close to a national level, but we ran seventeen days
straight with thirty seven shows. We never celebrated every win
or qualifying for the championship. If you won the championship
after seventeen days, that's when you celebrate. Remember the Demolition Derby?

Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
Are you kidding?

Speaker 4 (01:25:08):
That was one of the biggest highlights in the eighties,
was the Demolition Derby.

Speaker 3 (01:25:12):
I think that's where the new Amphitheater is going where
the Demolition Derby was used to be.

Speaker 1 (01:25:16):
Yeah it is, yeah, yeah, Well the Demolition Derby don
was just the best thing at the P and E.
It wasn't even closed.

Speaker 3 (01:25:23):
The best roller coaster that little Donalds.

Speaker 1 (01:25:28):
Yea, all that stuff was good. The bumper cars were good.
Oh yeah, oh yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:25:33):
Joe Pompo. I had a head on collision with him
one time when I was a kid.

Speaker 1 (01:25:37):
You and Joe, you tell this story all top so
Joe you with the bumper cars, Yes.

Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
It was a great moment as a kid.

Speaker 1 (01:25:44):
For me, Joe is the nicest guy in the world.
You will not be that day. No, you will not
meet a better person than Joe on sign. Is it
just me?

Speaker 3 (01:25:52):
But it's a hoot that anything Toronto lives in your heads.
Rent free you do go on a lit you are
no question.

Speaker 1 (01:26:01):
We hate Toronto. We hate the suits in Toronto. You
know you love Yo. No, no, no, don't he hate
I think you're a Laice fan. Donnie stopping.

Speaker 4 (01:26:09):
We hate the suits in Toronto who ruined Vancouver radio.
There's three Vancouver radio stations not working right cows because
of these idiots in Seattle.

Speaker 3 (01:26:17):
I had a guy the other day yea, and Seattle too.

Speaker 1 (01:26:23):
I had a guy the other day stop me.

Speaker 3 (01:26:25):
And he like, I'm walking down False Creek and he goes,
Donnay Taylor, Donnie Deli, why do you guys always ripping Toronto.

Speaker 1 (01:26:31):
It's the greatest city in the world. Blah blah blah blah.

Speaker 3 (01:26:34):
And he's going on and on and I'm like, where.

Speaker 1 (01:26:37):
Do you live Vancouver? You moved from Toronto? Like if
Toronto's so great, why are you out here? Why are
you out here? And we're gonna rip Toronto, go right?
What do we do now? We're breaking? Okay, a break,
quick quick, I got a cough. A break cough of
the break, We'll take a break.

Speaker 3 (01:26:55):
Wrap up the show. A poll question next, Donny.

Speaker 4 (01:26:57):
