be the winner of a two man loose and Rick
Dolly Wall I had a cherry tree up a little Ricky.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
I used to go up that tree and just sit
there for hours and bunch on those cherry years.

Bitt of the gym? Lately?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Stop that I went to the gym yesterday was at
Trevor Linden's Club sixteen with Trevor Linden No in South Surrey.
I go there three times a week.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Anything stand out done.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
It's an off the air story. It's a good story
and we'll keep it off the air.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
You had some other stories when it comes to people
training as well that we can't get in. Yes, exactly,
on exercise bikes. Yes, yes, okay, we want to talk
about this happened. Let me just say this first. We
talked a lot yesterday about CFL rule changes. Yeah, okay,
that will come into effect twenty twenty six and twenty
(01:38):
twenty seven. We talked a lot about that yesterday. Ransom
clips from Stuart Johnson, first year commissioner of the Canadian
Football League. After the show finished, Nathan Rourke had some
things to say. Not a fan of the rule changes.
So we'll get to that later in the show with
(01:58):
the BC Lions and with the Canadian Foot League, but
we want to start today with some news regarding a
Vancouver Canuck up in Edmonton.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Rick absolutely every done. Good for this kid, Vasili pod Colson,
a former Cannuck first round pick. It's a new three
year deal in Edmonton, two point nine million a year.
He's got a hell of an agent, don He scored
eight goals last year and he goes from one million
to basically two point nine almost three.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
He's got a hell of an asient.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
But the one thing almost the agent, My buddy Craig
Oyster out. You're giving the agent credit for this and
not I'm giving him a president who goes from one
million to three million on eight goals, don who's improved
their game? Yeah, okay, and I'll turn all around game.
I'll tell you something else about this contract. He had
our bright so that played a role in it. But Donnie,
(02:46):
let me say this about Pod Colson. Everywhere he goes,
coaches love him, players love him. He's a great team player.
Leon Dreisidele couldn't stop raving about him last year. He
might start with him on the line this year. He's
a big, strong kid. He's accepted his role. He's never
gonna be the point guy tenth overall in Vancouver, And
what did Vancouver expecting?
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Podcalls?
Speaker 3 (03:08):
And when you go tenth overall, people expect points, people
expect production.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Never happened career, So get rid of him.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
This is not the Canucks fault. Done, and I'll tell you.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
What talking about it. Done.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
They were stuck. Here's the problem. They had to send
him to the miners. He would have had to go
to waivers. They weren't confident enough he was going to
make the team. You were going to lose him for
nothing on waivers. Every single team would have picked that
guy up. And I know you want to back the
Canucks and they not back.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
They were stuck. Done, they were stuck. They did this
regime and the regime before. They didn't do a good
job of developing him. And you know what I talked
about him before. Let's go back to that day in
twenty nineteen when they drafted him. There were other players
of lab. Yeah, Matt Boldie. They should have taken Matt Boldie.
They didn't, Matt Bowl, Cold Confield, col Bingal. They took Holdlander.
(04:05):
That did that draft of stake and who ended up
being well, somebody that they ended up liking better. But
what about the development of put Coles And let's let's
go back there. They obviously didn't do a good enough job.
Well they didn't. They didn't have the confidence in him. Done.
And but again his career has and yet the team
that has gone to two straight Stanley Cup finals, like
(04:26):
does have confidence in him. Good on him, good positive
story for him. Like I tell you.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
When he left Vancouver, there wasn't anybody in the Canucks
organization that said a bad board about this kid. The
coaches in Abbey, coaches in Vancouver, management, everybody.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Loved this kid.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
He's a very likable kid. But this is about production.
You go tech overall, don you're expecting eighty ninety points
from the techno you just didn't get.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
I'm sorry. Players can adjust there. He could still be
a tell. Would he be a valuable bottom six guy
for the Canucks right now? Goals last year eight, but
I don't care where in the draft. Sometimes have to
adjust their game, and it looks like he's done that.
He has done that, and I think more impressive for me.
Eight goals in eighty two games. You're banging on there,
(05:12):
you know, playing you know at times with David at
Drice httle. That's not good enough. But he got ten
points in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Was good in the playoffs. He was good in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Jnny.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
You saw him score some big goals and then set
up in a night school. But he's got the big
body and he can move his feet, you know, so
guess what, he's a playoff type guy. They like him
in Edmonton. They like him a lot in Edmonton. Good
for the kid. I can't say a bad word about
the kid.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
And it was let's set the record straight. It was
a Jim Benning pick, not a Patrick Alvin it. He
was a Jim Benning pick, not a Patrick Alvin pick.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
And three coaches in Vancouver, Travis Green, Boudreau and Talckett
all could not fix him down. So you're sitting there going,
where's the development. Three guys tried, None of them could
get you know, him up the twenty twenty five thirty goals.
That's not his role.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
So there you go, and yet he's well, I'm not
saying he's blossoming, but he's playing better with the Admonton honis.
And of course that has a lot to do in
part with who he's playing with. But just you look
at that the Benning era and just you know, nailing
things with with Bess or with Hughes Patterson. Yes, initially,
(06:27):
no question about it. You got to put him in there,
But you don't put Coles in top ten, you know,
for ten and your level levee top ten. Yeah, that's
that's that's tough.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Where would they be those two top tens hurt.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
They definitely hurt. Yeah three yeah, yeah yeah. So for
their difference, makers specially put coals into admitonton three years
was the average two point ninety five?
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Two point nine yet five and uh you know I
quickly in his draft year Igor later Enough was coaching
him in Russia. And when I asked Igor the professor,
I said, what do you think of this kid? He said,
he reminds him of Mark Messier. Pretty high praise from Meager.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Now he's an Edmonton Yes, there's still time. Yeah, that's
going to lead to our poll quest. Didn't Let's introduce
it a little bit earlier than we normally do. It's
our Waddling Dog, a poll question and experience one of
Victoria's iconic destinations. Rick sleep, step, sip rather and stock
up or step whatever that is all in one legendary spot.
Come sit and stay at the wadling Dog. The dog today,
(07:28):
Ryan get her up the waddling Dog.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Poll question Vasili pods Colson right there, a new three
year deal with Edmonton today?
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Did the Canucks give up on him? Toy?
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Look at this, this is hopping and popping. It's taken
off sounds plus votes. Donnie at fifty three percent say no,
they did not give up on him to thirty but
forty seven percent say do. They say that the Canucks did.
And this is very interesting to me. This is pretty close.
I didn't think it'd be this.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Close for sure. Go to Daily face Off and they
lit to offline combinations that website of all National Hockey
League teams they have and this isn't a big surprise,
but they have put Coles in the top six along
with dry Settle and Captain. I'm looking at the Oilers configuration,
their lineup, and if I'm Conor McDavid, I'm looking at
(08:20):
this and I know dry settles there and Ryan News
and Hopkins, but I could see why there would be
some hesitation in terms of signing long term with the Oilers.
You know that top six and includes a this isn't
on Daily face Off man Japany Thomas Sek Kapainin put
Coles in again. They dry settled and right, Ryan News
(08:42):
and Hopkins move around. Adam Henriech's there as well. But
and the defense is pretty good question for a long time.
You could see why, you know, he's had with David
and his people would go okay, let's let's wait a
bit here. You could see he could, but again, then again,
they have made the Stanley cupan last year, Donny.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
If he signs in Edmonton, they could have fifty million
tied up in four guys. Fifty million, I mean that's
a crazy number.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Yeah again, but Coolson extends in Edmonton. Who would have
thought he he kid when he left for a fourth
round draft pick? Good guy? Okay, Ryan, how are we doing? Good?
Do we want to deal with Let's do this. Let's
stick with the connection. We'll deal with the CFL a
little bit later. Ross Hucker, NFL is going to join
(09:28):
us in the next segment. But Kentucky's you had some
other issues that you wanted to talk about. Let's start
with Victor Manciniah.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Okay, So the top young defenseman a camp. There's three guys, Donnie,
and maybe one spot third pair of right side? Top four?
Is that we know that who's gonna get that.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
On opening night? Mancini? DPD.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Can I call him DEEPDH? Go go for it, Okay,
dept And we'll lander So out of those three, who
has looked the best so far?
Speaker 1 (09:57):
No question?
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Mancini has caught managed his size. He's on the radar.
He worked on his skills, skating hands. This summer, went
to Sweden for two to three weeks. Mancini holiday jo
Why would he go on holidays to Sweden. He went
to train because he was there in Covid and he
loves it there. There's good people there. He trained there
two three weeks in Sweden. But keep an eye on
(10:20):
Mancini so far out of training camp of the preseason,
and I think the one guy that has jumped ahead
in that battle out of those three young guys, is Mancini.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
You say that, but he is twenty three versus the
other youngsters.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, he is a little bit older, but
he's also got a lot of good pedigree in the
American league. It's time to keep this guy a chance
in the NHL down and see what he can do.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
Okay, that of course, acquired from the Rangers and the JT.
Miller deal. He scored the canucks first goal was on
the power play on an assist from Braydon Coots on
Sunday in that preseason loss to the Seattle Kraken Day.
We're gonna run a clip. Now here's what Victor Mancini
had to say about his performance will also here at
(11:06):
the back end of this from Adam Footing his thoughts
on Victor Mancini. But first Victor postgame Sunday, it was a.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Good start for me in the preseason. I think I can,
I can, you know, work on my game more and
kind of develop as as preseason goes on. I know
that the base of my game defending hard, moving my feet,
moving pucks. You know that's gonna be the foundation. So
I just want to continue playing my strengths.
Speaker 5 (11:33):
He's powerful, he cumuncin of really good shape and you
saw the power and uh, you know, he got excited
once the one goal came. And then sometimes I wouldn't
say do it too much, but you know, I like
the way that the juice is going on, the energy.
But a lot of good things, but like we'll have
to calm some of it down.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
In the neutral zone.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
But the beauty is he's just got the power and
he's pushing hard.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
He's got the power.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Kid and more importantly, a right shot skater, six street
two dred pounds right shot defenseman.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Don't grow on trees. Yeah, and I like what Adam
Foote said there, and you've seen this in minor hockey
where the kids that they they they're doing well at
the start of the game, and then they want to
do too much, maybe hold on to the putt so much,
you know, maybe go for a hit when maybe they shouldn't.
That sort of thing. I think that's a pleasant problem.
You'd rather have that as opposed to somebody who's too passive.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Absolutely, And you know one guy who you know, a
scout told me he's trying a little bit too much
right now.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Is a Blander done?
Speaker 3 (12:37):
And people, you have to understand about Tom Lander. He
is not gonna dazzle you offensively. You I know, you
went eleventh overall, right, shot d He's not going to
dazzle you offensively. Great skater, good in his own end,
but he's just not gonna dazzle you offensively. And people
have to accept that. They really do.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Wilmer Arlickson.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Oh yeah, Donnie, I'll tell you this kid, like I said,
pried you didn't surprise me.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
We talked about this earlier.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
I talked to somebody in Penticton about this kid, great cap,
big body, bigger and better than last year.
Speaker 6 (13:09):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Can he be a middle six guy in Abbey that's
going to be the key. Is he going to be that.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Guy that about Vancouver?
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Donnie's young is a young buck. I think he can
still go back to the Ontario Hockey League. But this
guy from last year to this year, all you want
your prospects to do, don is get a bit better
five percent, six percent whatever. This guy got better, He
got bigger, stronger, and you saw him in Penticton. The
big thing is going to be can he be a
middle six guy in Abosphord. Keep an eye out for
(13:38):
that one.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
And there's all this talk over the last several days
about Linas Carlson, who was so good for Atmospherd. Whenever
he comes up to play at the NHL level for
the Canucks acquired from San Jose, always always looks pretty impressive,
painted the ass to play against.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Hey, out of all the Abbey guys done, he looks
the most ready. To me, you know, I thought Baines
had a good Penticton at to Ratu didn't really stick
out for me. In Medissan Donny great skater and another
guy you don't like but I like, And I'm telling
you he's a big, strong guy. Danilla Kolomovic. Keep an
eye on him. You like his agent nah, stop it.
(14:15):
This kid. When the Canucks drafted him, they put him
in the American League. They shouldn't have done that. Now
he's in his fifth year in Absta State Junior. He
should have gone to either the Quebec Lee where his
rights were, but they stick him into the American League
because he was a big body.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Wrong.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Now he's going to be in his fifth year in Absberg.
But I was told bigger, stronger, a good shot. Keep
an eye on Kolimovic. So if he develops well enough,
he'll end up in Edmonton. Twenty five goals last year. Oh,
that's it hill breakout year. And you know, I hope
the Canucks wagon. I like Danilla Klamobi is his agent,
(14:51):
Dan Milstein.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Okay, good guy, friend of the show. Good guy. Here's
what's coming up on the show at DTMZ. Is it
just me in the eleven o'clock hour. Craig Button is
going to join us just after eleven o'clock. We'll see
what he thinks of Butt Coleson extending in Edmonton, among
other subjects. Big Rye at the Twitter guy coming up
later this hour and up next to talk about the
(15:12):
National Football League. Travis Kelcey and Andy Reid bumping into
each other the sidelines. It all worked out for Kansas City.
Ross will talk about that and a whole lot more.
He's next again. Thanks so much for tuning in, folks
Donnie and telling the team.

(16:19):
sponsor Able Auctions, Able Auctions dot c A. Ross Tucker
joins us now from the Ross Tucker Football Podcast, Westwood one,
CBS Sports. Ross. Thanks for doing this, sir, How are you?
Speaker 6 (16:32):
I am? Fantastic good morning, boys, How are you guys.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Doing lovely very well? You're a Pennsylvania guy. You have
to explain this to me. I'm watching Eagles Rams and
the Eagles are trailing at the half and they get
booed by their fans. They're two to zero defending super
Bowl champion. Is just how tough is a Philadelphia crowd?
Speaker 6 (16:52):
Ross? You know what it's It's the best and worst
fans you could ever had. And I'm and I mean
that right, Like I think, if things are going well
and if they love you, there is not a better city.
Ask Jason Kelcey, Ask Brian Dawkins, you know, ask the
(17:14):
guys that the city has really embraced, and they will
tell you that there isn't a better place to be
a star athlete. If it's the other way and you struggle,
or especially if they don't believe that you show the
effort that they would give and that they want, then
(17:36):
it's tough. Then it goes the other way. So I
guess you have to decide you can go to some
other cities where they're easier on you when you're doing bad,
but it's not quite the same when you're doing good. Right,
So I think you know, Phillies. Phillies love hard. Philly
fans love hard, and hate's not the right word, but
(18:00):
they have high expectations. They're more passionate, both positively and
negatively than most other fan bases. And I mean, I'm
from here, and I do a lot of media stuff here,
so I love it. To me. I don't understand living
life without passion like that, but a lot of people do.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Take care, and a lot of a lot of sports
teams will take that any day. Hey, Jordan Davis, let's
stick with that game. How much do you enjoy, first
of all, a game when he touchdown, returns to fumble,
all of that, But how much do you enjoy somebody
that big, over three hundred and thirty pounds hitting close
to nineteen miles an hour, fastest speed ever recorded for
(18:40):
a player who weighs that much.
Speaker 6 (18:44):
I like it a lot more when it's a guy
I'm not having to go against, that's for sure, you know.
I mean, I'm extremely jealous. I gotta tell you, guys,
I'm super glad they didn't have the GPS thing when
I was playing. I don't know if I would have
hit ten miles an hour, you know, was seeing what
these other guys are getting. You know, if the skill
guys are in the twenties, I wasn't even half as
(19:06):
fast as those guys. I don't know how Jordan Davis
moves that fast at that size while he's carrying a ball,
by the way, which makes it even harder. I mean,
it's and and he was gonna score easily. Like I'm
you would think he would be faster when he's like
trying to chase down a quarterback or something. But it's
extremely impressive. I'm really proud of him. You know, here
(19:30):
in year four, you're talking about a guy that you
know was overweight and probably underachieved his first three years,
that all of a sudden, it's like he's found the
light at the end of the tunnel and he's a
much better players. I mean, it's huge for.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
Them Ross Seattle the sixth ranked offense, fifth defensively, number
one special team. So much to like what's impressing you
the most about the Seahawks, Well, I was kind.
Speaker 6 (19:57):
Of skeptical of them, to be honest with you, Rick,
come in the year you know, I did not know
if they could replicate what Darnold did in Minnesota. With
Kevin O'Connell in Seattle. I didn't know if they had
the receivers for that. I don't know. I just I
wasn't really feeling the Seahawks coming into the year. Those
last two wins, Holy cow. I mean, they're doing it,
(20:20):
like you said, in all three phases. To go into Pittsburgh,
who's a two and one team, They're probably not great,
But to go into Pittsburgh and thoroughly dominate them the
way they did, and then come right back and obviously
what they were able to do at home against New Orleans.
You know, New Orleans had had two really competitive games
(20:40):
against the Cardinals and Niners, who hadn't lost yet to
start the year, and then they go up to Seattle
and what was it, thirty eight to six at halftime,
And that was like me against Rick in a debate,
that was super impressive.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
That is true. That is true.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Hey, another bad performance by Russell Wilson. A couple of
picks against Casey. They're all in three. What are you
doing at the quarterback position in New York?
Speaker 6 (21:05):
Well, they're just head of delaying the inevitable at this point.
I don't know why. I think the thought process is
They want to give Russell Wilson every chance possible to
see if he can get it going like he did
by the way against Dallas when he played very well,
and win a couple of games, and try that route
(21:26):
before they go to door number two, which is Jackson Dart,
which they're going to do eventually. We all know it,
and quite frankly, that's the only chance at this point
the GM and head coach have of keeping their jobs
is that Jackson Dark comes in and plays really well
and they win some games and the ownership decides we
want to keep what we got going on with Jackson
(21:48):
Dart and these rookies. Otherwise, it's getting late pretty early
here for guys like Brian Dable and Joe Shane, the
head coach and GM of the Giants.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
Didn't they have the guy the Giants, Daniel Jones. What's
your opinion of what he's doing in Indy three and
oher and what's he doing there that maybe he wasn't
doing with the Giants?
Speaker 6 (22:11):
Well, several things. First of all, and you guys know
I called that game on Sunday for CBS Colts Titans
number one. He has better guys around him, Yeah, right,
I mean, this o line in Indy is way better
than any Indie than any offensive line he had with
the Giants. You know, he had a good running back
(22:31):
in Saquon got a really good running back again with
Jonathan Taylor. The receivers and tight ends are better, and
let's be honest, I think the coach should do it
a better job with him, you know. I think coaching's
part of this. And he certainly looks better in Indy
than I feel like he ever looked in New York.
And it's a combination of probably him getting better and
the guys around him. But I think coaching is certainly
(22:51):
a big part of it. And look, I thought Saquon
was an example of this last year. I mean, if
you're a giant skill guy, your whole dream at this
point should be to get traded or go to another
team and so you can flourish like take one and
Daniel Jones.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
It russ any theory or maybe it's just one of
those things as to why we saw so many blocked
field goals on Sunday.
Speaker 6 (23:13):
That's a great question. Yeah, I got a couple theories
for you. Actually, One is that they don't practice special
teams at all. And in particular, there's no first stringers
out there for preseason special teams, so then when you
actually get into the games, those guys are doing it
(23:35):
against live bullets for the first time. The second thing
is is you know a lot of these guys that
are out there. Sometimes it's younger guys. Sometimes his rookie,
Like I saw a tip in the game I did
Titans Colts and the left guard for the Titans is
a rookie and kind of got run over. He's not
ready for it, doesn't really know what that feels like
(23:56):
when Grover Stewart tries to run you over. He got
run over, gave up a tip. I gave a tip
to field goal. I think that's a big part of it.
The question you should be asking is like, well, how
is that different than other years. I think it's just
they're attempting longer field goals and also less and less
practiced in preseason time on these things.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
And one more ross if you don't mind, what did
you make of the Travis Kelcey Andy Reid confrontation on
the sidelines on the weekend.
Speaker 6 (24:28):
I guess it seemed like it worked, you know. I
mean two things about that. One is It's like I
say to my daughters, if like the teacher or coach
or whoever's being hard on them, that means they really
like you and or believe in you, right, you know,
if you don't think someone has potential or whatever. And
(24:49):
in that case, I think Andy Reid and Travis Kelcey,
it just speaks to the strength of their relationship, you know.
I mean, I think we all have discussions like that
with people we care with the most. You don't have
that as much with people you don't really care about.
And also it seemed like it worked. It gave them
a spark. That first drive out of a halftime that
was the best Achiefs have looked all year.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
That's great printal advice. By the way, you're not just
here for football rush, so we can't tell you how
much we appreciate that. Thanks buddy.
Speaker 6 (25:18):
Listen. I'm trying, man, I'm trying. I'm assistant coach for volleyball.
OH lost last night, and I'm trying to maintain the positivity.
And it's about attitude and controlling what you can control,
you know, And that's what matters to me. I don't
really care if my daughters are the best or worst
athletes of the world. I just want to make sure
(25:38):
that they're doing the right things, that they have a
positive attitude, that they support their teammates, and that they
realize that in life and in particular in sports, you
usually get out what you put into it, right, I mean,
like the time you put it. So what I like
about sports, you know, you get what you deserve. For
the most party as.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Long as they can hit over twenty miles an hour
with a football. Thanks for this, Ross with my jeans.
They got no che I hear you. Thanks Ross? Next week?
Speaker 6 (26:09):
All right, sounds a good boys, see I.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Appreciate Ross Tucker, Ross Tucker Football podcast, CBS Sports and
Westwood One. Let's deal with the poll question next our.
Thanks to Ross, Johnny, do only the team on check
Bottling Dog poll question experienced one of Victoria's iconic yestinations sleep, sit,
(26:33):
stock up all in one legendary spot, come, sit and
stay at the dog Today vacilly put Coles and Hans
re opt with the Edmonton Orders three years two point
nine to five per eight goals twenty four points eighty
two games. Last year former Vancouver cannuckt and that leads
to the wadling dog poll question.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
All right, get it up, the wattling dog pot pole question.
Pod Coleson today, three years, almost nine million, and did
the Canucks give up on them?
Speaker 1 (27:00):
You already?
Speaker 3 (27:00):
And uh, fifty twent say no, but forty eight percent
say yes, nine hundred and twenty one votes already. It's hopping,
it's popping. It's not stopping on a Tuesday. I'm telling
you it's it's this is it, It's good, this is
you know, this is good?
Speaker 1 (27:15):
Doney?
Speaker 3 (27:16):
What's not only is the poll of almost fifty to fifty,
but it's hopping and bopping. You're saying it's good they
got didn't say that. It's not the Canuck's fault.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Dot. They were stuck. Okay.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
If they send him to the miners, he had to
clear waivers, they would have.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
Lost at that point. At least they got throw stuck
by at least I got before that and his development.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Travis Green couldn't fix them. Boudro couldn't fix them. Rick
Talker couldn't fix them. Do you see the pattern.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
Traded for a fourth round or twenty twenty five turn
out to be Trevor Lewandowski. Yeah that guy? Okay, moving
on now again slippid coles in three years two point
ninety five per up in Edbmonton. The focus of our
poll question. We want to focus again. We did this
yesterday on the CFL rule changes announced Monday by Stuart Johnson.
(28:13):
We got that board here, Derek, you can help us
out here. Yeah, there you go. So the changes and
some of which will be instituted in twenty twenty six.
Bottom of the screen a modified Rouge automatic play clock.
It starts at thirty five seconds versus twenty and the
referee had to call that in So I wonder if
(28:35):
it'll just end up being about the same the team
bench locations. When you go to BC place, you see
both benches on one side. Now it'll go they'll be
on the opposite sides of the field, which you know
throughout football history has been the case and we've seen
recent changes that way. In twenty twenty seven, goalposts will
(28:56):
be moved to the back of the end zones like
it is in the National Football League. Field size the
length changes. The width stays the same the CFL with
what so many people love, but the length will change
one hundred and ten to one hundred shortened end zone
from twenty yards. As a kid, I remember twenty five
yard end zones, but in this case twenty yards to
(29:19):
fifteen yards. And I mentioned the shortened field. Yep, absolutely,
so there you go. So we talked about that a lot.
Yesterday after the show was over, Nathan Rourke, Farhand and
company got a hold of Nathan Rourke out there in
Surrey the Lions training facility, and Nathan and he came
across very very well, very passionate, made it very clear,
(29:43):
not a fan of those changes.
Speaker 9 (29:45):
New rule changes are garbage.
Speaker 10 (29:48):
It's garbage. I, as many people did who fans and
people who play in this league, grew up watching the CFL.
Speaker 9 (29:57):
And loving the game.
Speaker 10 (29:59):
I grew up in Ontario, played seat Canadian football rules
all my life, was aware of the and it was
a fan of the league down there, but was a
fan of the CFL because of its differences. I went
down to the States proud of the game, being able
to explain the differences.
Speaker 9 (30:14):
What I the waggle, the yard, the extra person.
Speaker 10 (30:18):
These are the things that are unique about the game
that make it different.
Speaker 9 (30:23):
And there's the rule changes.
Speaker 10 (30:25):
To me, make it sound like we want to be
let league down south. We want to be that league,
and from recent history in years past, leagues that have
tried to emerge try to be like the NFL haven't
existed very long. That CFL game has has existed for
longer than the NFL, and there's a reason for that.
Speaker 9 (30:44):
It's unique.
Speaker 10 (30:44):
The fans love it. I grew up loving this game,
and they're changing that. They're getting rid of a lot
of things. The worst part I think about it, honestly,
is the fact that the people who play football, who
have the football knowledge, were not consulted about this. The
players were consulted, the coaches, management. Nobody was insulted. This
was done on their own accord. This was done independent
(31:07):
of asking anyone who actually knows football what they want
to do, what they think would be better. We have
a commissioner who hasn't been here for a year, who's
already trying to make trying to change the game. And
I don't believe he loves football as much as I do,
as much as many fans do, as much of people
who grew up loving this game.
Speaker 9 (31:23):
I don't think he.
Speaker 10 (31:24):
I don't think you cannot make and adjustments like this
and tell me that you like football if you love
the Canadian football game because you're changing it, and what
we're moving towards is not the Canadian football the game
that I grew up loving that I'm passionate about that.
I came back and played. I went down and played
in the NFL, in that league, and I came back
knowing that this is a game for me because of
the uniqueness of it, what's special about it. And we're changing,
(31:46):
we're getting away from that, and that, for you know,
frankly makes me pretty pissed off.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Boy, you talk about passion that came through. I don't
agree with everything he said, but man, you can't. You
cannot argue that this guy isn't completely passionate about the
Canadian Football League and the Canadian Football League rules. And
you think about it. He was emotional there. You havn't
a hell of a year. He's had a hell of
a time in two different states stints, and I mean
(32:13):
in a good way. In the Canadian football He doesn't
want to see it change. He's doing great up here,
and I get that he grew up with as a
proud Canadian and he's he's upset again. I don't agree
with everything he said. One thing he said there that
I will agree with, and that is that you know,
you're you're changing these rules, and you're you're changing towards
(32:36):
not completely, there's still there. I still think there's enough
there that's going to make it uniquely Canadian. But he
did make a great point, and I don't think the
CFL talks about this enough. The XFL, USFL, everybody failed,
World Football League, NFL Europe. I don't even know what's
happening with arena football these days. But they all go
by that, they all fail, they all go by the wayside.
(32:57):
And the CFL is still is still well, you'll want
to use the word thriving. I'm not sure, but it
still exists. And a lot of people like Nathan Rourke,
like ourselves, like so many people out there, thousands of
people both sides of the border, they care about it.
It's still sticking around. These other leagues have said goodbye
for the most part, right so that I will. I
(33:20):
will give him back the other thing that he said,
And again I don't know all you know what the
you know, we're gonna have Stuart Johnson on the show
later this week, but what was the thinking behind not
consulting players like Nathan Rourke right, was the MVP. Solid
reasoning behind that, and the.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Board of Governors did this obviously behind the player's back.
But let me say this, Donnie about I watched that
two or three times.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
I loved it.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
It was passionate. He's a Canadian. He doesn't want any
changes to the CFL.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
I get that.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
As humans, we hate change because it takes us out
of our comfort zone. He's lighting up the CFL right now.
Why the hell would he want changes? He's lightening it up.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
Right now every week arguably the best Yeah, arguably the
best play.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
He's getting three hundred's. His offense led by him, is
getting thirty points per game, seven games in a row.
Why would he want change when he's lighting it up
in the CFL? I get that, But also he's got
to understand new commissioner, some new voices, some new ideas.
It doesn't always hurt, you know, I hate to say
(34:23):
it do but look at our industry, look at all
the changes. We don't like it, but we accept it
and we move on. Humans hate change, and he's got
accepted that. Maybe sometimes leagues have a little bit of tinkering,
and that's what they did.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
Yeah, there's so much here. When you talk about not
liking change, yeah, very true. All of us, especially as
as we get older. Absolutely made this point yesterday and
I'll make it again. Look what happened in the National
Hockey League in two thousand and five with all of
its rule changes, including the elimination, was a lot of
(34:56):
the red line, no touch, I icing, etcetera, etcetera. The
game's better then, the NHL is better for it. NBA,
we can go way back. Twenty four second clock wasn't around,
you know, the three point line didn't exist, not at
least not in the NBA. Believe it was an ABA invention.
NBA is better right now. I mean, well, I don't
(35:17):
know if it's it's as good as it was in
the recent past, but certainly better than those when then,
when before those rules were instituted MLB in the fifteen
second pitch clock, it's way better to watch. NFL has
made a lot of changes as well. NFL used to
have its goalposts on the goal line, moved him back
years ago. There have been a lot of changes there.
(35:38):
Those leagues which are very very successful, you can argue
more successful in the VFL. They've made changes, changes, everyone's
got most of them for the most part. The leagues
are better for it. And the other thing with and
a lot of people have a problem they're not touching
the width of the field. It stays the same. It's
going to be wider than an NFL field, but the
length of the field changes. And I wonder Stuart Johnson,
(36:02):
commission of the CFL, comes over from TSN. He's he's
a TV guy, he knows television. I think on television
that will look better the game with the with the
smaller field, and it just there's just something about and
I don't know exactly what you know the scientific reason
(36:22):
is for it, but optically the smaller field looks better
on television and for people in Canada, I always say
this when you talk about, you know, the NFL field
versus the CFL field, that what about when you watch
a game from the World Hockey Championships on that ice,
bigger ice, for whatever reason, it just does not look
(36:45):
as good as this. You can tell you it's a
better game, whatever the case. Mean, there's more space, but
on television, the smaller ice surface looks better. And I
think that's the case with football too, And I wonder
if that's part of what Stuart Johnson thing.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
He's a TV guys. But I just loved the fact
his passion yesterday. I'm not in his voice, the way
he came out. I always thought he was going to
start crying. Yeah, and I wouldn't have minded if he did.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
He made some great points there.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Canadian born best quarterback in the history of the Canadian
Football League. There's a kid in Cloverdale right now minor
football that's telling his dad, I want to be the
next Nathan Rourke. He is a big, big deal in Canada.
You and I have covered this league for three decades.
When's the last time there was a Canadian quarterback that
did this? I think the last guy was in the nineties,
Great Vavra, remember Vava and Calgary and.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Before that, Rush Jacks so off base.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
Who's the last one before?
Speaker 1 (37:40):
After Evera?
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Who's after ever?
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Julia care that.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
Our buddy Julia Caravan Good started a game. Now, he
started a game, and I remember that game. It was
in Toronto. Mike McCarthy was president of the Lions and
he went down. Joe Popa was coaching.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
I remember that game, and yeah, you didn't bring it up.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Your buddy okay, but anyways, Okay, let's le let's storry.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
Sorry, go ahead, Ryan, I know we've usually we do
business here, but let's do this. Let's take a bit
of a left turn here. Can we go out on
the Stuart Johnson clip in reaction to what Nathan Worke
had to say. So let's let's do that. We'll do
some business that we're supposed to do here a little
bit later our friends from Able Auctions. But as we
get ready for big Rye, let's go to break with
(38:24):
Stuart Johnson, Commissioner of the CFL, and his reaction to
what Nathan Worke had to say yesterday.
Speaker 11 (38:31):
Nathan, of course, is an important, important voice in the league,
and I am. I know he's busy preparing for actual games.
So when the time is right, I would love to
connect with Nathan and walk him through kind of the
reasoning behind what we're doing and also kind of the
(38:51):
really core group of a lot of football experts that
were involved in looking at this. And so I'm confident,
I'm incredibly confident that these are the right moves for
the league. But of course I respect anyone's opinion and
whether it's Nathan work or or a passionate season ticket holder.
(39:13):
I want to listen to what they have to say
and hopefully be able to explain, you know, the reasoning
and the process that.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
We went through looking for the ultimate Vancouver Island getaway.

Your Island adventure starts here just before we get to
(40:07):
Big Rye. The Critter guide unsigned into our inbox, The
Bayside ocean Front Resort. Inbox. I started watching football as
an adult and tried watching the NFL and the CFL,
and I much prefer to watch the CFL. NFL is
better marketed, but the CFL has the better game on
the field to watch. And we'll see what that person
(40:28):
thinks as the rule changes get to get brought forth,
big Rye.
Speaker 12 (40:33):
Yeah, I mean, I all respect to Nathan Rourke. I
just failed to see the big deal, like the changes
were mainly cosmetic.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
Well, well it will change strategy. They'll think about field
goals now with a fifteen year zone.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
Okay, back at the end zone. It's the best player
in the league.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
Ry, I don't think you're just cosmetics before.
Speaker 3 (40:55):
You don't think he thought about and before he blasted
the league. Yeah, I just I mean, I I don't know,
like him saying I was surprised by it.
Speaker 12 (41:03):
I will give him saying using the goal post as
the thirteenth man, it's like, yeah, that's exactly the problem.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
That's the problem. That's studs away brought up like that
shouldn't be a thing. Well, that shouldn't be.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Initially, the problem was the NFL made that move, and
the NFL is a ten yard and so the NFL
made that move. Kids a long time ago, the NFL
had its goal post at the goal line moved back
ten yards. It was more difficult for the CFL because
at the time it had a twenty yard and zone,
maybe even a twenty five yard end zone, so that
(41:37):
made things. You know, it made sense to not have
the goal post move back, keep them at the goal line.
But now that they've changed or will change to a
fifteen yard end zone, it makes a little more sense. Yeah.
I mean, there's there's so much here that we can yeah.
Speaker 12 (41:50):
I and again, hey, I respect the passion. He wasn't
the only one. Mike o'sheay yesterday wasn't over the over
the enthused by Adam big Hill. However, he backed it
out of Calgary. I saw a quote from him yesterday.
So it's mixed. But Donnie, I agree with you, And
Forehead tweeted something similar today like, look at all of
(42:11):
these leagues, all of them including MLB that moves in
as they've all made changes, and the hardcorees in the
MLB hated the pitchclock. I had a buddy that's a
massive fan, he played baseball all of that hated the pitchclock.
It's hard for him to defend it now when you
see the length of games and the pace of games
(42:32):
and the way they move along.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
The recent Gosman complete game. Yeah a week or was
it was just like two hours and four minutes.
Speaker 12 (42:40):
I'm sorry, like way better, it's way better. So at
the very least, and you bring this up to Donny,
at the very least, try it.
Speaker 1 (42:48):
See what happens.
Speaker 12 (42:49):
Yeah, if it blows up and it's a massive mistake,
I hope that Stuart Johnson is in a position that
he would be okay to go. We made a mistake.
We're going to make some changes in things. That's what
good leaders do, exactly. Uh okay, big grin on the
twitter guy. The Vancouver Canucks are on the ice out
at UBC, their practice facility. Oh wait, no, never mind.
Uh They they two groups today, the.
Speaker 3 (43:09):
First one on the ice at ten thirty group, a
second group on the ice side.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
I believe noon.
Speaker 12 (43:15):
It looks as though this first group is who is
going to be out in Abbotsford tomorrow night for their
next preseason matchup tilt as the kids call it. These
are your.
Speaker 3 (43:23):
Practice lines, top line of hoglander. Are we going with
heetel or cheatle? It's cheetle, It's not cheetle.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
I can't believe you're asking this. Somebody.
Speaker 12 (43:33):
Somebody the other day I'm trying to know who was brof.
Speaker 1 (43:35):
Somebody said Cheetle is Brough check, no.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
Ch, It's always been Heatlist.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
I'm not taking your advice.
Speaker 3 (43:46):
Everybody knows it's eeetle and mckechron right, Yeah, he's the
American Jack mcket it's mckichron kichee Uh.
Speaker 1 (43:55):
I'd like to see that mckeitch's not a bad beer leaguer. Really, Oh,
you played it the yeah?
Speaker 3 (44:00):
Really yeah, good for him. Bayne'sesan Carlson, your second line, Kratsov,
Ratus Stilm in your third line, le bait Joseph was
it durants all over Joseph le bait talking about here
in Vancouver many years ago, and then he went to Europe,
he came back and now he's back with the Canucks.
He was in the Canucks system and you had to
come many, many, many years ago. Rans. He's a big
(44:21):
guy six you like a size. I'm on and Arleson
al Rickson are your four forward lines right now at practice.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
Which again, the reason you can read into it.
Speaker 12 (44:33):
Is because the big banner the Canucks unveiled promoting to
more Night's game included the likes of Hoglander and heatl
as well as some of the defensemen who we haven't
taken to take.
Speaker 1 (44:42):
A look away. Jeff has set this up left wing center,
right wing. I was watching the show Friday when I
didn't do the show, and you guys had it the
other way around, just a little thing. What do you
mean we did? What do you mean we did on
the poll question? I see, I see, I see. I'm sorry?
Why were you paying attention? You should say off? You
(45:02):
shouldn't be watching. How sad is your life? It really
is beach somewhere.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
You should be on the beach your defense. Don't want
that Marcus Peterson with Tom Hollander, Kudryatsev with Tyler Myers,
and off, isn't it nies off? It's nies off, right,
that's the case.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
But there isn't silent with no, you're right? And because
this is just the saddest thing I've ever heard of
my life.
Speaker 3 (45:34):
Canis off?
Speaker 1 (45:34):
If you go by the k is not silent anyway,
those are your defensive says Kudratsev.
Speaker 12 (45:41):
By the way, what he is the he's the man
as is a great guy. And not mentioned are the goaltenders.
But again on that banner, promoting to one Edg's game
was none other than Deko.
Speaker 1 (45:55):
There it is. It's actually Mko pushed a player in
a demo in camp.
Speaker 3 (46:01):
I know what are you doing? Yes, the scrimmage? The scrimmage?
Speaker 1 (46:05):
Was it for somebody? Yeah, that guy should have had his.
Speaker 3 (46:11):
Come on, it's gonna happen during it can't happen. Are
you worried about the populatus? Just the general tis I'm
worried with. I don't want that.
Speaker 12 (46:24):
I don't want anybody getting near him outside of a game.
Speaker 1 (46:27):
That will never happen during the regular season.
Speaker 3 (46:30):
Again, during the game, those things happened during his scrimmage.
Come on, man, they should have like plexiglass in front
of demco just like when you.
Speaker 1 (46:40):
See sometimes the drummer behind place. Yes, yes, yes, exactly exactly. Now,
it would make it.
Speaker 3 (46:48):
Would make a little difficult for him to try and
you know, save pucks with plexiglass.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
Make it difficult for shooters to get through the place.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
There's that.
Speaker 13 (46:55):
Yeah, Wow, he was unstoppable tonight. Well it's a pain
of glass in front of drum kid? Sure, why not smoking?
Speaker 1 (47:03):
Why not?
Speaker 3 (47:03):
So anyway, Uh, there you go. Yeah, So that's the
first group. That's the first group and again that second.
In my opinion, it's safe to assume this group your
group B and they're on rink C.
Speaker 12 (47:17):
Yes, that's correct. Uh, I believe that's the group gonna be.
You're gonna be seeing you got to practice. Guess what, folks,
you can do at the same time. You can do
it at the same time like talking. Yeah, yeah, anyway,
there you go. Anything stand out by the way, we
didn't really we just read it go back. I mean, man,
I think is the one well, I guess you could
say that lander with Marcus Pederson.
Speaker 3 (47:41):
That's kind of that tells me when you get paired
up like that, why don't you too start showing us
something right? Make us make it a hard cut man
with the young kid, is is a sign that he's okay?
Speaker 1 (47:54):
It's the other two you bang on.
Speaker 3 (47:57):
I'll give you that you think that it's it's a
sign he man c has doesn't need to show as
much as sticks out.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
Help me out here, and certainly our viewers and and
and listeners can help me out. But Baine, Sass and Carlson,
was that not a line of the abbots for drive?
It was? It was Yeah, So that's that's very interesting.
And I look at all three of those players, and
if one or two of them end up, you know, uh,
being on the roster day one, I wouldn't be. I
wouldn't you know.
Speaker 12 (48:24):
I agree on that.
Speaker 1 (48:25):
I love I really like watching Assassin.
Speaker 3 (48:26):
Play fast Yeast and they need the fastest guy and
abby By and that's.
Speaker 1 (48:30):
Nothing against against the other two by any means. I
just we talked about this recently.
Speaker 12 (48:35):
I'm just glad to see there's actually a conversation, you know,
like there's actual you can actually make cases for guys
and rabbits for battles going on, big time, big time.
Speaker 9 (48:44):
But it's not like, oh no, here's the lineup.
Speaker 3 (48:46):
And that's the good thing again about them not bringing
in PTOs either, Like, no, let let there's a lot
of guys here.
Speaker 12 (48:52):
Let that battle play out and see what things look
like on opening night.
Speaker 1 (48:56):
Yeah, Colson would look good in that group. Oh yo,
you guys gotta let that go.
Speaker 6 (49:02):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (49:03):
Coming up next, TSN's director of scouting Craig. We'll ask
Craig about Pud Colzen uh because he probably has some
things to say on him.
Speaker 1 (49:12):
If you missed it.
Speaker 3 (49:12):
Three year contract extension for Vacility today in Edmonton two
point nine to five per season. Rick doesn't understand why
you got to raise, but he did. Craig Button's up
next to Tony the team I check.
Speaker 1 (49:25):
Hey everyone, it's Donnie and Dolly and we're looking to
partner with your company.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
We have several packages and price points to fit your
budget and spread the word about your company on the show,
in our podcast and on social media.
Speaker 1 (49:37):
We'd love to get involved with your company called two
five oh eight, eight oh twenty two eighty two or
email advertise at checkmedia dot ca. Tuesday and Oliver guests
including Craig Buttons standing by Frontibar will sponsor able auctions
(50:01):
Able Auctions dot ca a more unable auctions in a bit.
But right now we're joined by ten Scotting director.
Speaker 3 (50:07):
Well, let me actually need one second, Craig Button. Craig
just dropped out of the zoom for a second. He
was having some video problems, so he just dropped out. Oh,
he'll be back in a second chance.
Speaker 1 (50:15):
Maybe we just get him on the phone as opposed
to the no, No, he's at home. He's good to go.
Speaker 12 (50:21):
But there's just a bit, a bit of a glitch.
Speaker 1 (50:22):
So we talked about asking Craig, which we'll do about
facility put Coles. Yeah, at twenty four years old, whereas
his game hat is just sound like a good deal
for the Oilers and Vacilly put Coles, And I think
this deal for a lot of people in Vancouver when
you go back a year, nobody saw anything like this company. Absolutely.
I realize he's playing with a much stronger lineup there,
(50:43):
but I don't think anybody would have guessed this fan base,
maybe even management.
Speaker 3 (50:47):
Johnny, you score eight goals and you go from one
to three million dollars.
Speaker 1 (50:51):
Wow. Yeah. The other person we want to ask Craig about,
of course, is when you talk about being a scouting director.
Brayden kots because everybody, Oh, it's only been a week
or two, but we're pretty impressed with he's with what
he's doing so far with the Vancouver conducts. We've got Craig.
Craig joins us. Now he's making sure everything's perfect for us.
And look at that shirt. Oh beautiful, ground stunning Craig,
(51:12):
Thanks for doing this, sir. How are you.
Speaker 14 (51:15):
Great? How are you guys? What do you think of
the CFL rule changes? Now, let's let's talk a little CFL.
Speaker 1 (51:20):
Well, I'm more in favor of it than Nathan Rourke is,
so I'll give you that. But we loved his passion.
But Craig, we made this point. The NHL, MLB, even NFL,
NBA all have made changes. Their games are better for it.
Why not try something like that in the CFL. That's
where I'm at. I understand Nathan's passion, but I'm more
(51:43):
on the positive side.
Speaker 14 (51:45):
Yeah, I'm right with you, And I mean, Nathan, you know,
spoke and everything.
Speaker 15 (51:49):
But I love what Stu Johnson said in his interview
with Dave Naylor, you know, trying to trying to create
more offense, trying to create more excitement, time lags where
there's not actual play going on. You're right, we got
to look at in all areas. We got to look
at how we can be better and look at ideas.
And if an idea doesn't work, okay.
Speaker 14 (52:09):
Well we'll we'll dash it, We'll try something else. But
I like the fact that they're looking.
Speaker 15 (52:15):
I guess I call it Dave on gazing, and I
think you got to naval gaze if you want to
get better.
Speaker 1 (52:20):
Uh, Craig sticking with that, if if you don't mind,
and this might be a bit of an awkward position
for you, but you know Stuart Johnson, he was a
boss at TSN. You have confidence in him as somebody
who can be a solid leader for the Canadian Football League. Yes,
I do.
Speaker 15 (52:37):
Number one, and number two, you got to keep in
mind that Stu is the president of TSN for a
long time, Like they did all the analysis on what
viewers are looking at, how long viewers are staying like
one of the complaints.
Speaker 14 (52:51):
So he comes in with an idea of not only what.
Speaker 15 (52:55):
Viewing habits are, but then as somebody that cares about
the CFI. And that's one area I'll completely disagree with
Nathan Rour because that Stu Johnson cares about the CFL.
Speaker 1 (53:06):
He's a fan.
Speaker 15 (53:07):
He's somebody that has a deep passion for the CFL.
But just because you have a deep passion in your
fan doesn't mean you don't look at it and try
to improve things.
Speaker 14 (53:14):
And bottom line is, when your product is.
Speaker 15 (53:18):
Declining with respect to viewership and your viewership is a
little bit older, are you going to attract your next
generation of fans. That's what Stu's doing, and I think
he's really looking at this as something that can build
the game, make it more exciting and appeal to more
younger viewers.
Speaker 3 (53:36):
Hey, Craig, let's go over to the Canucks training camp.
Everybody's talking about Brandon Coots. You had a good camp,
you had the good game in Seattle, that's where he
plays for the Thunderbirds. But are we getting a little
too excited? It's still early. What are your thoughts on
Coots so far?
Speaker 2 (53:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (53:52):
You know, Rick, what I would say is there's nothing
wrong with getting excited about a good young player. You
don't get drafted fifteenth overall by accident. And Braiden is
a really good player, right. I mean I've watched him
since he was sixteen. He grows from sixteen to seventeen,
seventeen to eighteen, and you're seeing that continued growth. Listen,
You're looking at a player that has the hockey sense,
(54:14):
he has the skills, he has a competitive will to
be a really good NHL player. What he doesn't have
is the physical maturity. You're not ready for the NHL.
And I think that the excitement is warranted because you
want to see your young players sh well. But another
year in Seattle showing that like to be a leader,
to be somebody that can really assert himself in a
(54:34):
significant way, much like Berkeley Catton did last year and Spokane.
I think that that's what I'd be looking at from
Braiden Coots. But you're looking at it, and we talked
about this last spring. You know, you can look at
different players. But the Connects were screaming to draft the center,
and there was centers there for them to consider. There
was centers there for them to select, and they did
(54:56):
select Braiden Coots. And I think he's a really good
prospect and somebody that's going to fit into the Canucks
team very nicely.
Speaker 14 (55:03):
It's just not going to be this year.
Speaker 3 (55:05):
Hey, Craig got a big contract out of edmund today,
Vasilli Pod Colson three years, two point nine mill. And
we used to ask you about him back at the
old station that got blown to smither Rings. But listen, Craig,
your thoughts on you know Pod Colson. I mean, he
was a tenth overall pick here and now he's in
Edmonton making decent money.
Speaker 15 (55:26):
Yeah, I think it's decent money. I mean I see
Vacilly as somebody. I don't think anybody that watched him
in Vancouver whatnot.
Speaker 14 (55:34):
I thought at the time, he might have had a
little bit more offensive upside. I don't think he does.
Speaker 15 (55:39):
I think he's a third line player that plays hard
on the boards, plays.
Speaker 14 (55:43):
Harder and around the NATS as physical.
Speaker 15 (55:46):
You know, has a has a really good strong bolter,
and you know, like Leon Drive Sidle talked about liking
to play with them because he retrieves Fox. Well, of
course Leon Drive Sidle likes playing with a guy like
that and retrieves Fox. When you're playing with Leon Dry,
you need to have more finish and bottom line. For
Basilly pot Polser, you can project finish. He doesn't have finish.
(56:06):
If he had twelve to fifteen goals score, I think
you're kind of capping him there, and that's where he's act.
So two point ninety five million dollars, I think is.
Speaker 14 (56:14):
A really fair price. So that type of a player, and.
Speaker 15 (56:18):
I guess if he scores twenty five to thirty, they've
all what a deal.
Speaker 14 (56:21):
I don't see it.
Speaker 15 (56:22):
And I think that what the what they have Button
Orders did is just say they were embracing you for
what you are, We're going to pay you accordingly.
Speaker 14 (56:28):
And that's where he fits in.
Speaker 1 (56:30):
Boy Craig before I let you go. Just a horrible
time for Hall of Fame goaltenders. See old Jackman Ken Dryden,
they leave us. And now the great Bernie Parunt at
the age of eighty. Your memories of the late Great
Bernie Perunt flyers legend.
Speaker 15 (56:47):
Yeah, well, you know, it's it's interesting because he was
such a stand up goaltender and and a goaltender that
you know, played bigger than net and played big in
the big games. And you know we saw that back
to back cons my trophies and just a tremendous goaltender.
Speaker 14 (57:04):
You know, like he took a lot of what Joq
Plont taught him.
Speaker 15 (57:07):
I mean he he was kind of a Joaques Plant disciple,
and Jock Plant was a was a very good, strong
goaltender technically, and Bertie was exactly that. Bertie had a
great love of life and had a great love of
of of his teammates and and and and and of
the fans. And you know, his career has ended prematurely
because of the eye injury, but his enthusiasm for life
(57:28):
was right there, right to the end. And I think
that when you think about he, you know, ed Jockaman
Ken Dryden, I mean there's a trio of goaltenders that
when you when we talk about difference makers and and
and and and goaltenders that helped their teams be wildly
successful to different extents and on that. You can't finish
that Jockman for what he did for those New York
(57:50):
Rangers teams. But those three goaltenders hall of famers and
certainly uh to be remembered as as as great people
as well.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
Yeah, they say things come in threes, and let's hope
this stops right right here. If Stuart Johnson doesn't work
out its commission of the CFL, those first two answers
you get. You're there, Craig, you're next in line.
Speaker 15 (58:13):
But by media training, right like you see after all
these years, by media training's paying off.
Speaker 1 (58:19):
Well, you know what, we're all passionate about the CFL.
We all in this business. We are all passionate about that,
and that includes Nathan work. I love his passion yesterday
and he did make some great points as did you.
As always, Craig, thanks for this.
Speaker 14 (58:32):
Yeah, I have a great day, you bet.
Speaker 1 (58:34):
Craig Button TSN Scouting director. Again, I want to emphasize
that we're not I'm not going to criticize anything. I mean,
I might disagree with, but I'm not going to look
down and Nathan Rourke for what you said yesterday that
he came across as intelligent, passionate, and you made the
point Ryan Off the year that Nathan Rourke came across
(58:55):
as somebody And I'm not saying this jokingly at all,
like I did with Craig somebody who.
Speaker 3 (59:00):
Could be an executive in the CFL one day, I
had no issues with Nathan Rokin. Cares he's Canadian, he
cares it's a Canadian product. Good on him.
Speaker 1 (59:09):
Okay, let's take a break. Dtimse bottom of the arrow
will deal with the poll question and do some business next.

Speaker 1 (01:00:07):
Is it Rogers as Place?
Speaker 6 (01:00:08):
Now?
Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
It's Rogers Arena?
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
This is this?
Speaker 12 (01:00:10):
The song is over tour? They're North American Farewell Tour.
How many are they? The leaders in the clubhoust? In
terms of retirements farewell tours? I think they've got to
be Elton.
Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
John Would he be up there?
Speaker 6 (01:00:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
I've lost track because I don't pay attention to retirement
tours because I know they're not retirement.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
Tours like because they their first one WHO farewell tour
was in the eighties, I think right.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
Well, I saw them in nineteen eighty nine. I can't remember.
Was that BC place up there with Tom Petty is
the loudest concert at now? I was right near the
stage as the loudest concert I could see. Very good.
You're a fan of the Who in my generation of chorus? Wow,
that's a that's an old school pulled O'Reilly? Are you
kidding me? Did you just slew that up? Who doesn't
(01:00:57):
like the Who? Okay? Fooled again? Yeah, Tommy Tom.
Speaker 3 (01:01:02):
You mentioned Tom Petty, Oh, free Falling is the best
car song ever.
Speaker 12 (01:01:06):
I know you didn't watch uh this season of the Bear,
but they used getting.
Speaker 3 (01:01:11):
In Tune by the Who the song man. I hadn't
heard that one before.
Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
How was it?
Speaker 12 (01:01:16):
By the way, that's a banger.
Speaker 1 (01:01:17):
This season was good. It redeemed itself. I DTC is
coming up. I saw the Spinal Tap movie Final Tap
sequel incredible. I loved it. I was ready to be
embarrassed by them. I was ready to be embarrassed because
I love the show so much. It's a cult following.
I get that. I really enjoyed it. How many people
were in the theater? To three?
Speaker 12 (01:01:39):
I think you said you gave it four to two
page out of five on then Taylor scale of movie.
Speaker 1 (01:01:44):
You were bragging about it.
Speaker 3 (01:01:45):
Yeah, movie critic talk about when you host on Friday
without that, I'll tell you, man, I think I'm gonna
welcome to my world.
Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
Whole question. You sit there, you talk about like we
haven't got much time. I never saw throughout the Who
for hours. Let's go Walling Dog poll question experience. One
of Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep sip stock cup all in
one legendary spot. Come sit and stay at the dog.
Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
Today, Rick Ryan got her up the wattling dog poll
question Vasili pod Colson three years, almost nine million today
in Vontonkay Knacks give up on him. To look at this,
eleven hundred votes hop and it's popping. It's not stopping.
Almost your old boss would love this. Almost fifty to
fifty down the middle, fifty two percent say no, forty
eight percent say yes. The Canucks are not to blame
(01:02:33):
for pod Colson. They tried everything in the books. Absburg coaches,
Canock coaches. Sometimes the onus is on the player. He
had three coaches in Vancouver, he had another five hundred
in Absburg. Are you gonna blame five hundred coaches?
Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
Two point ninety five per He's developed better than Edmonton
to Vancouver. We can say that he had.
Speaker 3 (01:02:55):
Eight goals last year. You're talking like you went from
fourteen of Vancouver to four.
Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
So you don't believe that that organization knows what it's doing.
It's been in the Stanley Cup final last two year. John.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
He's playing on a star studed team that's gone to
the Stanley Cup finals two years in a row. He's
accepted his role. He's doing good.
Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
Did you guys say, by the way he led the
oilers and hits last.
Speaker 3 (01:03:14):
Year, you have actually a big physical body.
Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
Yeah, put that in your pipe. Stop it you want.
Speaker 3 (01:03:20):
Everybody wanted eighty ninety points out him in Vancouver because
he went, well, that's not smart. I'm sorry, it's not
you go tenth overall done. There's an expectation for tenth
overall picks to get points.
Speaker 1 (01:03:30):
But I say this all the time. I have nothing
but respect for players who come into the National Hockey League.
They can't make they can't put up the numbers, and
they adjust, they adjust their game. It looks like he's
the way to doing that. He's good.
Speaker 12 (01:03:43):
The one thing I will say, though, you have to
give the Canucks management credit for these getting something and
not losing them.
Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
They got a fourth row pick.
Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
Yeah, well, at that point it's better than nothing because
we're going to lose it. Before that, where was the
development what? And you you may very well be right
for once that you know falls on the player.
Speaker 3 (01:04:01):
You had a ton of coaches in Vancouver and Abasburg.
Speaker 1 (01:04:03):
Come on, man, Okay, I wanted to mention this. We
talked earlier about the New York Giants quarterback situation. We
understand that Russell Wilson is out. Jackson Dart has been
named the Giant starter for Sunday's game at home against
a very tough LA Chargers team. So there's that. And
you wanted to mention something about the women's Rugby World Cup.
Speaker 3 (01:04:27):
Yeah, a big game coming up in England. They did
really well on the weekend, Donnie, This is a big notion.
Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
This is the story you wanted to talk about.
Speaker 3 (01:04:34):
Stop it go, let's go.
Speaker 12 (01:04:36):
Come on, it's the final.
Speaker 1 (01:04:37):
It's they beat New Zealand on the weekend. This past weekend.
They will play England. Our Women's World Cup rugby team
will play England for all the marbles, the title Sunday
in England State. Rats to them no matter what happens
on the weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
Go Canadian women and in a stadium with eighty thousand, Yeah,
it's going to be a packed that's gonna be a
game to monitor this weekend.
Speaker 12 (01:05:02):
Well, we mentioned Sophie de Goody on Friday from Victoria,
the team, part of the squad.
Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, good good for them. Let me
do some business here then we'll move forward. Thursday, Able
Auctions will sell the contents of a closed Langford wood shop,
a wood shop, a continental cargo. Taylor must be trailer, right, trailer? Yeah,
(01:05:28):
well it's not spelled there. You know what, sometimes Jeremy
provides us to be very careful. Guy.
Speaker 3 (01:05:34):
Jeremy good guy.
Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
You know, he's a good guy. But he was saying
sometimes he'll put in a piece of equipment that I've
never heard of, right, right, But this is a trailer.
Speaker 12 (01:05:42):
That's clear trailer.
Speaker 1 (01:05:43):
Hey, Taylor wouldn't be a bad name for a piece
of equipment. What's the yellow thing? I don't get that
looks like a box trick, a genie boom lift. Hundreds
of pieces of woodshop equipment, including table saws, edgebander, job boxes.
There you go, lifts of sheet stock, and a whole
lot more. For information on this Vancouver Island woodshop auction,

We got time for another Nathan work.
Speaker 3 (01:06:24):
Clip, Don't I got business?
Speaker 1 (01:06:28):
You do?
Speaker 6 (01:06:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:06:31):
We got some time here, Yes you have time or not? Yeah? Yeah,
let's get I got a clip by Rokin. Okay, this
is Nathan Worick so passionate about the CFL. He's not
a fan. He called them garbage of the CFL rule changes.
And this is how far Nathan. This is the third
clip of Nathan Derek. This is how far he went
(01:06:53):
with his distaste public distates of the rule changes. Nathan
quarterback kind of feel sorry for CFL defenses.
Speaker 10 (01:07:03):
The revenue is up in the league, the viewership is
up in the league, and scoring is higher than it
ever has been, and it's higher than it's been in
the States, in the league down south. So I don't
know what data we're looking at where we have to say,
we have to make this more exciting. We have to
make more scoring, gives more scoring operations. I'm an offensive player.
We don't need any more advantages. It's hard enough for
the defense as it is.
Speaker 9 (01:07:22):
And like we said, we're.
Speaker 10 (01:07:23):
Scoring a lot of points right now. It's not in
spite of the rules, it's because of them. I don't
know what we're doing.
Speaker 6 (01:07:30):
There.
Speaker 3 (01:07:30):
You go hard enough for defenses now, you and I
covered the lines for years we went out to that
Surrey facility. If the skytrain goes right over the field,
they got to stop doing interviews with skytrain in the background.
Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
Well maybe that's another change.
Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
That was a problem when I covered the lines in
the nineties.
Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
That's your takeaway from that interview.
Speaker 3 (01:07:47):
I don't want to hear the skytrain while he's talking.
Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
They got to fix that.
Speaker 3 (01:07:51):
Take the guys inside. That's like back to the old
ten forty days. Remember when you do the pregame shows
in the plaza. Oh right, and you were literally under
the track. Yeah, you have some big important interview. You know,
I don't think Henrick City's gonna play it. And he's
got a broken five minutes the skytrain is going through it.
You could hear it in the background. But like Donnie says,
(01:08:12):
that's what he took away from what he just.
Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
Said, that why not go the other way? Move the Skytraine? Yeah, yeah,
because you're going through that in your neighborhood right now.
I know you're not. You know your mom and dad are. Yeah,
Fraser Highway there. You don't want that. But that's how
passionate he is. Like he actually feels bad that, you know,
CFL defenses. It's gonna be get more difficult for them
(01:08:34):
to do what they're supposed to do with their role change.
Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
It's good for him because his next contract, he's probably
going to become the first million dollar player in the CFL.
Speaker 1 (01:08:42):
Let him load up. Doug Flutie was the first million
dollar Okay, I'm talking recently.
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
We all know Doug got paid big time, but recently,
name one guy that got a million. He's going to
be the next guy.
Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:08:54):
What was Kelly in Toronto nine?
Speaker 1 (01:08:58):
I can't remember? Was wooed but way back when in
the nineties by Larry Rickman in the Calgary Stampeders away
from the BC Lions with.
Speaker 3 (01:09:06):
Murray Pestle and then Murray Peasant got him here.
Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
No, that was after Murray pass you around then? Or
Murray Peasan. Are you kidding me?
Speaker 3 (01:09:16):
Who didn't remember Murray Peasan in the box with what's
her name? Pam Ladders?
Speaker 6 (01:09:22):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:09:22):
No, it was Mark Gastados.
Speaker 3 (01:09:25):
Bridget Nielsen, Yeah, yes, yes, maybe Pam Maison was there.
She was in a Peasant's box and that's.
Speaker 1 (01:09:30):
Somewhere in there. Flute was involved. I'm not really sure.
Remember Peasant took his shirt off.
Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
Yeah, he took a shirt off.
Speaker 1 (01:09:37):

he blew it out of the water. I mean he
looked like a kid in Great twelve.
Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
We'll tell you what he looked like during that first season.
He looked like the future captain of the banker of
a Caducks. I remember he was until Messia came along
and Bob McCammon. You know, God bless him. He gave
Trevor all all the ice he needed to be successful, tremendous.
There was a shift he came up with against the
Minnesota north Stars. That was the moment everybody it was
(01:11:55):
just working his ass off. I don't think he scored
or got an assist, but it was clear that he
was towards being the captain of the Cannucks. One of
the very first season. Just the campaigns average Trevor seems like, yeah,

Speaker 3 (01:13:04):
Let's go back to the eighties when there was no
social media, no cell phone, much better life.
Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
Will you sit there and laugh. We've lived through both
and the telephone that era was better. Yeah, Okay, he's

Speaker 3 (01:13:22):
There's too many nutbars on social media. There's too many
nutbars on there. I just picked one and then went
and you settled on it.
Speaker 1 (01:13:30):

that much money?
Speaker 3 (01:14:30):
You got to you got the creative juices following I
love she loves what she does?
Speaker 1 (01:14:34):
Why we love what we do? I would stop, I
would release albums, but I don't know if I have tour.
That's just me there. Well, that's like the Beatles. Yeah,
that's true, they stop touring.
Speaker 12 (01:14:47):
Yeah, all of these companies though, man, they are just
lined up. Sure, Taylor, what do you want to put out?
How can we market it?
Speaker 1 (01:14:54):
But it's a little bit different now when you tour
because unlike back in our day, oh, in the sixties, seventies, eighties,
your lipsyn, you're not really working, you know, moving around,
moving around a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:15:07):
You're seeing all artists now lip sync they all do well.
Back then, come for stop. Milli Vanilli got busted for
look at that? Wasn't they did? They got busted for
doing that?
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
Donny Yeah did elbow? Why why can't you you're telling me, Okay,
at the very least, back then, more people saying than now,
from what I know, maybe.
Speaker 13 (01:15:33):

like Paul abduel in your great like that pop star?
Straight up not tell me that was a great song.
But she's she's a former La Lakers cheer. Yeah, yeah,
so she was a pop star. She was a pop star.
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
Probably, No, everything's about costume changes and dancing, and it
always has been. What he's talking about.
Speaker 3 (01:16:01):
Elvis watched the Beatles jump.
Speaker 1 (01:16:04):
He wore one jumpsuit for show.
Speaker 3 (01:16:07):
Share. Yeah, Derek just brings up share.
Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
What about where it all started? Share? Madonna, Michael Jackson.
You might be was Milli Vanilla before.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
That was not enough act. They had a big album.
Stop it, blame it on the rain.
Speaker 13 (01:16:27):
You're saying Millie van as Elvis saying when they got
busted for lip sync and it was a big story.
Speaker 1 (01:16:33):
Dawn, I don't remember them getting busted for lip syncing.
I do live in concert.
Speaker 3 (01:16:39):
Did Elvis lip sync? Are you saying Elvis did not?
As far as I know not. As far as I know,
Elvis said the best of all time would never lip sync?
Speaker 1 (01:16:47):
Who is the best? Is Elvis?
Speaker 6 (01:16:51):
Heard?
Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
Minds? The other day was beautiful. He didn't change jumpsuits.
I thought he had, like you know what I think.
Speaker 6 (01:17:03):
In Vegas.
Speaker 3 (01:17:03):
I thought he had like a white one and then
like a blue one or something different.
Speaker 1 (01:17:07):
Concerts. Still, the only thing he changed would have been
the scarf neckerchiefs. Yeah, scarves, and he gave them to
the women in the crowd himself.
Speaker 3 (01:17:15):
You go on, Yeah, Elvis was great, the best of
all time.

This goalie had fiberglass mask molded painted by Greg Harrison,
who built and customized many of the great masks of
that era. I'm disappointed.
Speaker 1 (01:17:58):
What's the initials not just he are Kurt Ridley? Yeah?

of the OHL in twenty nineteen.
Speaker 1 (01:18:47):
Grew up in Austria, moved to Switzerland, Marco ROSSI got it.
That was good. I thought he's coming to the Canucks.
Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
He was almost the Canucks tried, Canucks tried.

Speaker 6 (01:19:22):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:19:22):
This famous American singer failed his physical examinations after being
drafted to fight in Vietnam. Vietnam never served. I love
this nineteen sixty It is stop. Guys, don't do it
because if you're doing the music on him. In nineteen
sixty four, he saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show,
(01:19:43):
and then that led him to buy seven hundred guys
like Adro, What are you?
Speaker 1 (01:19:48):
This is Bruce Springsteen.
Speaker 3 (01:19:49):
Bruce Springsteen, that's it?
Speaker 1 (01:19:51):
Those are your clues.
Speaker 3 (01:19:53):
I can't give you the what do you want me
to see? His nickname is the Boss.
Speaker 1 (01:19:55):
Now right away. Yeah, well, you're saying I can't give
your top clue. Your clue was this was a musician
who saw the Beatles and thought, hey, I'd like to
do that too. Yeah, he's like pretty much everything.
Speaker 3 (01:20:08):
First guitar because of the Beatles on Ed's Elvan and.
Speaker 1 (01:20:11):
Bruce Springsteen doesn't lipstick and he.
Speaker 3 (01:20:14):
Doesn't and Born in the USA is one of my
favorite best all time albums all the time. All Right,
this famous American actor was born with the name Jason.
Speaker 1 (01:20:22):
Greenspan, Jason Alexander. We got it.
Speaker 3 (01:20:28):
I'm surprised you didn't get that. I was right there
for you. All you have to do is take it
off the tree. Speaking of the bear, we talked about
it earlier. I don't know, Jeremy Allen White is Bruce Springsteen, Man,
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:20:38):
I don't know.
Speaker 12 (01:20:39):
I'm watching these trailers because the movie comes out next month.
Speaker 1 (01:20:42):
I don't know. I don't know. Hmm. Yeah, that's it
for me. You don't have to look perfectly like the
person too. Yeah, but he doesn't because I'll tell you
what was it. Oh, go Sebastian stan as Trump in
The Apprentice. Yeah, didn't look or sound like him. Really
it worked also as Tommy Lee. Oh oh yeah, one
(01:21:05):
scene there got you going no.
Speaker 3 (01:21:07):
No, no, no no.
Speaker 1 (01:21:08):
That's a different movie. MGK, MGK, Panchow money. Yeah, it
was a series that was a very good sye it.
Oh that was good. That was really good. Yeah, We're good. Yep.

(01:22:46):
Is it just me Rick rock and roll all right?
Johnson and the owner lipsy and believing it. Johnson and
the owners peeing on the CFL history and heritage. That's
from David and north Burnaby. David, I'll tell you this
today they go from three to four downs down, they
will lose me. The day they cut the Canadian ratio
and they play around with the ratio and they bring
(01:23:06):
in more Americans, that's the day they'll lose me. I'm
not there yet, but the heritage and the history will
take a hit with the downs and with the amount
of Canadians on a roster.
Speaker 1 (01:23:16):
Well, you talk about the ratio. Do you remember when
they had the American teams in the Canadian Foot League
as part of the expansion. Those American teams had no
Canadian ratio And the ninety four Great Cup between the
Lions at Baltimore, which the Lions won, was a Canada
versus US all Americans and Canada versus US element to
it because that American team coached by the Baltimore team
(01:23:38):
coach by Don Matthews, Mathews, all Americans. It was a big,
big deal for the Lions. Steven Burnaby on email. Is
it just me, but how many weekly football pools or
fantasy teams are based on the CFL. It's boomers like
myself who want to talk about our glory days that
hold back change change away. It is time and again
that's Steve and Burnaby himself and older gentleman, it's time
(01:24:02):
for you to change a bit. We've talked about this
in the break.
Speaker 3 (01:24:05):
Yeah, and you could be stale. But the new commissioner
comes in, he wants some new ideas, don fresh.
Speaker 1 (01:24:10):
Few and yet this is what they did. I'll tell
you he was not a boomer, is Nathan Rourke. And
he doesn't like the changes absolutely and we respect him
for that.
Speaker 3 (01:24:18):
Hey, Rick, why are the Canucks stuck on Pod Colson?
What put them in that position to be stuck? Their
own mistake? So it's on the Canucks Stephen Vancouver. Uh,
they were stuck because if they put put Colson on waivers,
he was they were gonna lose him for nothing. Every
single team would have put in a claim for pud
Colson bottom line, first round.
Speaker 1 (01:24:36):
My issue is before that, you know he is what
did they do a good enough job of development with them?
Did they put him in arrest of the right role?
Speaker 3 (01:24:44):
Yes, Talckett, Green, Boudreau and five hundred coaches in Navisburg.
How many coaches do you want before you blame it
on the you don't blame it on the player.
Speaker 1 (01:24:52):
New s Nick? Is it just me? Or did Nathan
go never fifty one and elbows up in his response
to Stuart Johnson to keep the CFL Canadian All sorts
of mixed response. Some people pro changes, other people more
with Nathan Rourke where they don't like them. But yeah,
Nathan Rourke came across very well yesterday, whether you agree
(01:25:12):
with his opinion or not, came across as a very,
very proud Canadian football player.
Speaker 3 (01:25:17):
I loved Nathan Rourke yesterday. Had no issues with what
he said. He absolutely no issues. I think Rourke is
more upset that he thinks TSN's influence has taken over
the game without input from current and former players RP
and White Rock. As the saying goes, adopt or die.
Speaker 6 (01:25:34):
Is it just me?
Speaker 1 (01:25:36):
This is from Dwight, but I'm with Don and Rick.
It was a better time before social media. Too many,
as Rick says, nutbars whose opinions should be kept to themselves.
And we've been arguing in the break with Nina and
Ryan and they both agree that times are way better now.
Speaker 3 (01:25:55):
The eighties best decade. We didn't have to deal with
the nuts.
Speaker 1 (01:25:57):
People we lived through both just I pine for the
old days.
Speaker 3 (01:26:02):
If you sit on Twitter all day, you would think
we live in the worst world, the worst country, the
worst province, and the worst city in the world.
Speaker 1 (01:26:10):
It's not the case.
Speaker 3 (01:26:11):
There's many more good people in the world that are
not on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (01:26:14):
I want to make this point too. A couple of
people have pointed this out. The rocket and was a
was a million dollar cfl oh rocket Ismael in nineteen
ninety one.
Speaker 3 (01:26:23):
He said, yeah, yeah, remember that game at BC placed
a sold.
Speaker 1 (01:26:26):
Out on his first nineteen ninety one. Oh what a
great game. Now will come back? Oh that was the
glory days. Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:26:35):
Millie Vanilly was Can I go or not go?
Speaker 1 (01:26:37):
Quick? Quick Quick?
Speaker 3 (01:26:38):
Millie Vanilly was Rick's favorite group after Wham Blame It

don't care. I grew up in a bubblegump top forty
decade the eighties, Wam was huge.
Speaker 1 (01:26:50):
There's a lot of better yeah than Wham and Millie.
Speaker 3 (01:26:53):
That was a top forty decade. Don you why was
at the top, the top forty all the time?
Speaker 1 (01:26:58):
Come on, Billy Idol, George Michael. So good. Okay, let's
take a break and we'll wrap up the show in
the pull question Next Donnie Della The team on.

and Dick Clark would come on top thirty to thirty.
Who didn't like Dick don he was great? Pardon me, no,
DoD Dick Clark who didn't like him.
Speaker 1 (01:28:23):
But Dick Clark never said Millie Vanilly. He may have.
I don't know. Oh my goodness, are you kidding me? Google?
Speaker 3 (01:28:29):
When this song was on, Dick Clark would have had this.
Speaker 1 (01:28:31):
Are you kidding me? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
LG seventy three, Every Sunday Dick Clark Top thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:28:35):
I think it's really important to our viewers that we
looked that up. Ryan, Doc, Paul Rick Ryan, get her up.
Speaker 3 (01:28:41):
Oh yeah, our waddeling dog got poll question that visit
of Vasilly pot cools a new three year deal. Did
the Canucks give up on the two early? This was
a big song fifty and the people ripping me just stop.
I was the people in the eighties.
Speaker 1 (01:28:58):
No, this was big, except this isn't really Millie Vanilly.
It's the group.
Speaker 3 (01:29:03):
We didn't know that at the time. I was a
little rickey. I didn't know it was fake. So who
was singing this it was?
Speaker 1 (01:29:09):
It was people a lot older than Milli Vanilla, people
older like session singers.
Speaker 3 (01:29:14):
Okay, okay, So they struck these two guys in front
and and I thought they were Millie Vanilly, but then
we later found out it was fake.
Speaker 1 (01:29:21):
Can I get back to the poll, What did Dick
Clark think? Dick who didn't like Dick Clark, didn't Clark
Rocket Eve who didn't like Dick. Here's fifty two Ryan,
can I do the poll?
Speaker 3 (01:29:32):
Fifty two percent say no, forty seven yes, twelve hundred
Oh this is good.
Speaker 1 (01:29:38):
You hit the post. Twelve hundred, twelve under votes, twelve
under votes. Okay, I have no idea what you just
said there. Okay, let's just repeat something we talked about earlier.
It's been confirmed Cannock Connock's practicing today with two groups. Ryan, Yeah,
out at UBC and the first group we thought would
be the group that would be playing in abbot for
(01:30:00):
tomorrow against Calgary, and that's been confirmed now by Patrick
Alvin Rick.
Speaker 3 (01:30:05):
Yeah, I really like this. Look at that Bainesesan Carlson. Hey,
these guys are gonna be in abosph tomorrow against Calgary
seven o'clock, and look at this. They get a chance
Donnie together. You know, all three of these guys are
trying to make the hockey club and they're trying to
make the big league team, make the jump up at
tou Ratu. Look at him, He's gonna get a nice
look tomorrow up the middle of the ice. I'm on
(01:30:26):
had a goal the other night and heatl second line center,
so it's gonna be good.
Speaker 1 (01:30:31):
Yes, this, I like this.
Speaker 3 (01:30:33):
I like this lineup for Calgary tomorrow night, no question.
Speaker 1 (01:30:36):
So many people impressed with Mancinies on that third pairing.
What happened here, sorry, was that Millie as we talked
about earlier as well. Baines, Sass and Carlson so important
to what Abbasford was up to in winning the Calder
Cup last year. So we'll keep an eye on that
as well.
Speaker 3 (01:30:53):
And I liked that they got a veteran defenseman Myers
in the group at the other night. In Seattle, they
had no Connuct defenseman Marcus Petterson's Yeah yeah, and Patterson too.
I thought it was the other dpud. But anyways, look,
this is good. It's got a couple of veterans on
defense that will help out the young guys.
Speaker 1 (01:31:11):
Garth and Ladner. Is it just me? Or is Nathan
Rourke's passion for the Canadian Football League a beautiful thing? Again?
You can argue with what he had to say, but
