How are you lovely? You look at you look excited? Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Absolutely.
Speaker 5 (01:01):
We got a lot of get a lot of chunky
meat meaty stuff to get into.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Meaty and chunky and chunky. Yeah, well you know what
October is just around the corner. And that is, you know,
the time for a sports fall. Great time, all those
sports crossing over all. Right. So well, tonight in the
Vancouver area, the white Caps are playing Portland tonight. Injury riddled,
suspension riddled lineup for the White Cups are added to
(01:29):
the playoffs. So there's that. Also in Abbotsford Canucks playing
their second preseason game of the fall against the Calgary Flames.
Uh interesting lineup notes. So we got the lineup that
we showed yesterday. Right by any chance, remember we talked
about that months ago. There you go. The lineup is
(01:52):
going to include, speaking of Abbotsford, three Abbotsford playoff heroes
from last spring as the Baby Canucks went on to
win the Calder Cup. Look at that second line there,
Assassin between Baines and Carlson is gonna be the focus
of our poll question today. But that line rick you
(02:13):
if you remember this, that line combined for twenty four
points in atmospher a six game triumph versus Charlotte in
the Calder Cup final, total of sixty four points in
twenty four games twenty four HL playoff games last year,
and all three saw action with the big club, the
NHL club as well.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
Dominated big reason why Abosburgh won the Calder Cup is
those three guys, Donnie. There's no way fans and butts
about it. Are they ready to make This is the
big thing about this lineup.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Don not only get to Vancouver.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
The goal isn't for these Absburg guys to get called
up and oh okay, two games later get sent down.
The goal is always to get them ready to stay
and play in Vancouver, become regulars. And these guys have
been going up and down, up and down the last
couple of years. It's now time. It's time for one
of these guys. And I gotta throw Ratu and there
(03:08):
you see rat Tou. It's time for one of these
guys to grab a role in Vancouver and stay all season.
That's the big key.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Let's get right to the pole question. Then it has
to do with that second line that you're seeing there, folks.
For our television viewers, Wattling Dog pole question experience one
of Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep sip stock up all in
one legendary spot. Come sit and stay at the Waddling Dog.
The dog today, Rick Ryan.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
Get her up the Wattling Dog pop pole question, which
one of these Abasford playoff stars most likely to stick
with the Canucks this season. When we say stick don
all season long, I don't want to see one of
these guys make it and then be sent down.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Okay, you know what I mean. I don't want to
see them sent down two weeks later. So it's up
to them to some extent, up to them, Beans, Sasan, Carlson,
Carlson leading at seventy six percent, no surprise, Then comes Sassan,
great speed, you know, and then comes bans at ten percent,
four hundred votes. Already it's hopping and bopping on a
Wednesday morning.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
So there you go.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
When it comes to their National Hockey League numbers, why
is Carlson has six points, three goals, three assists twenty
seven games. This is at the NHL level, Max Sassin.
Maybe you might find this surprising, not bad considering the
ice time he got. But three goals for US is
seven points in twenty nine NHL games total, Archy Banes
(04:35):
with just one goal, zero assist in twenty one games.
I understand if you can see the results of the
poll again, if you don't mind, Derek, I understand where
people are coming from. The seventy seven percent of the
people who have taken part in this poll. I understand
where they're coming from are because when you watch them play,
especially at the AHL level, when is Carlson's a pain
(04:56):
of the ass to play against, and Sassin's got this
speed RSTI Baines, I think untapped offensive potential. They're big
numbers in junior, but Carlson is tough to play against.
And you know the word is that he's worked on
his skating over the summer. I can understand where people
are coming from. I will say this though, that when
(05:16):
you know when it comes to all three of those players,
and again limited amount of time at the National Hockey
League level, the guy I noticed the most, and I've
talked about this before, Assassin.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
He's fast, his speech sticks out, He's noticeable with his speed.
He's got NHL speed. Carlson. You keep saying the right things.
He's the most nhlready out of everybody in Aversparre. But
what's been the issue with him? What's holding them back?
Last year pace? The NHL pace.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Which he's worked on.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
He's worked on.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
He's all these guys had to go home, Donnie after
they called their cup long season go home and get
better and.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Lina's Carlson. The pace is going to be the biggest issue.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
If he's okay with the NHL base, he'll stay and
most of the season of Vancouver. Bains is very simple.
He is a pastor, not a shooter. He's not a
fourth line guy at the NHL level. He's not a
crasher banger. He's got to find a top nine role,
and Donnie, if it's not top nine, I don't see
him as a fourth line guy at the NHL level.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
I don't. I'm sorry. You know one thing, sorry, Rick,
go ahead. His assist totals tell you.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
In the American Hockey League, his assist the totals, he
is a passor, he's a playmaker.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
He's not a shooter.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
So you can see that he needs good line mates
to continue to play in that top nine. But I
don't see Baines as a fourth line grinder. I just
don't see him that eleven.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Goals, thirty two assists. Speaking to what you were just
talking about last year at the American Hockey League for
ours teep friend of the Show in fifty games, forty
three points, and then all that success in the playoffs
for him and pretty much everybody else on the abbats
for Canucks last year. The Knucks talk a lot and
if you've watched his team long enough recently, they need speed.
(07:00):
Maybe that helps, well, it does. It helps sassine chances
of sticking around not.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
The fastest group, Donnie, and especially in the top six
as well as we've seen that in the last couple
of years. But Sasan, he's got wheels. The road Runner,
you know, he should be called the road Runner. He's
got those type. I was trying to go to Yvonne Cornway,
but anyways, you know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
Well, no, I don't know you're talking the Roadrunner. You
know what it's taken, Yvonne Cornway. I know your youngsters
out there. Look it up.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
Well, the cartoon the road Runner, remember be beep, yeah,
bet beep.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
He's fast.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
He's fast.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
On with the coyote.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Coyote and the poor coyote. Uh you know who always
used to lose there, coyote.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Yeahot coyote would often wiley coyote. Wiley coyote often get
hit in the head by an anvil from the Acme company.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
And then a truck would run him over and never win.
Somehow he's back a great cartoon by the way back.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
The next week. Bugs Bunny Roadrunner, Yes, Bugs Bunny road Runner.
Moving on Nils Hoglander. Let's take a look at that
depth chart again, or the lineup tonight anyway for the
banker of our Canucks, what's expected to be their lineup?
Adam Flick confirmed that yesterday during your practice out at UBC.
But another look at their lineup and we see Nils
Holdlander playing with Philip Headel and Mackenzie Mcerchrn. Thirty one
(08:24):
year old. He signed as a free agent former Saint
Louis Blue American left winger, although a right winger in
this case out of Michigan State. But let's focus on
Nils Holglander. What's going on there? Rick just eight goals
last season after twenty four of the year before eight goals.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
Last year, had a horrible season, Donnie. He needs a
bounce back, but he needs a coach that believes in him.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Done.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
He needs a coach I believes him.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
I don't think you know him, and talking at the
end there, I don't think there was a lot of
belief from the coaching staff with him. But the Canucks
need Hoglander this is his first year with the big
new contract on it. He's going from one million to
three million.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
It's a very suitable contract.
Speaker 5 (09:06):
Yeah, you need production out of a guy making three
milli in the mid mid in the lineup at top nine.
And so the Canucks need the twenty four goal scorer Holelander,
not the eight goal score Hoglander.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Twenty four years old from Sweden. Do we get that quote?
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Yeah, fighting chance yesterday caught my attention. No, I didn't grab.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
How are you doing, by the way, you had a
tough time commute today?
Speaker 4 (09:31):
Traffic was just welcome to Vancouver.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Horrific today. It wasn't even a Vancouver.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
It's not a lot with you the Lower Mainland, Ryan,
It's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Do you ever think about leaving earlier?
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Any fuck?
Speaker 1 (09:44):
I do that now. I left my house at seven o'clock,
as I always do, and still took me an hour
and twenty minutes to tickets to the skytrain.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
So yeah, do we have that quote?
Speaker 1 (09:54):
No? No, do you mean the one line where he
says five words women to pay? Yeah, it was a
great when we get that here.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Hey, he's the boss around here. Asked for the quote,
But the boss he says he Nils Hogliner today.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
Hold on, hold on, I want to get the wording
because I've got it in front of me. It's vital. No, no,
but I want to show it. Okayas there is, there is,
this is what there it is? Boom, Yeah, read that
and soak that in, folks.
Speaker 5 (10:22):
Neil's Hoglander. I mean it feels like every year I
have a new coach, it's hard. This is him crying out,
not crying out, but him saying, look, I got drafted
in Vancouver. He's on his fifth coach in four years.
It's ridiculous. Don it is absolutely ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
We get it, No, it is. We can get rid
of that.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
No fourth coach in five years? Are you sure?
Speaker 3 (10:45):
No, it's I want to make sure everybody's seen it.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Why why are you mocking us? Because it's just very important.
So you think that you don't think that's an interesting quote.
It is, but I think you could say I don't
necessarily know. We had to show it.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Okay, mister television, decrankify and we'll continue with the show.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
I will have it handy though, in case you want
to show it again.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Well, you know what, so nobody cares about the Canucks
or what Nils Hoglander has. I mean, I wanted to
say this. You're sitting there going it's ridictled what's it?
What's it? Hey, you got a new coach, Suck it up,
play hockey. A turnover of coaches is no excuse. I'm sorry,
it is an excuse.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
Don it screen no Bruce Boudreau, Rick talking.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
But unfortunately, unfortunately Donnie's got the thing that's gonna kill
your argument.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Rick, you talk about turnover of coaches. He got twenty
four goals five years ago under Rick Talckett. Last year
who was his coach? Okay, no, there was no no.
Speaker 5 (11:41):
Change, but he this poured down in your put this
poor guy's had four coaches in five years. And don't
discount hey, don't discount his Abosburg coaches. He goes down.
He's got guys down there too. He had Jeremy Cullington,
he had Trent call so this guy. So that's the
reason why he had a bad season.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
I'm saying that.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
But he would be nice to have a constant message
from one coach over the course of two Yeah. Well,
anyways for him to say that, though, what do you
why do you think you said that?
Speaker 4 (12:09):
Don for a reason. He's tired of.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
How many bosses have you had in your time in broadcasting?
Seven hundred? Look at you?
Speaker 4 (12:18):
You perform well.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
Every single day.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
No, no, listen, I haven't had four bosses in five years.
Like Hoglander, he's got a point. Enough is enough?
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Is this from his agent or what? Like?
Speaker 5 (12:30):
What's the Agent's a good guy? Len, While, Uh, you're
not going to beat that guy.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
But to Donny's point, though, again, how do you explain
last year the same guy? It's the same He was
the same coach.
Speaker 6 (12:41):
Bruce Bruce Boudreau did not like Holglander. We know that, yes,
but then they brought him talk and then he gets
twenty four goals and Bruce doesn't like anyone that's not
six four to twenty. But anyways, Uh, the talk at
last year eight goals onuses on the player.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
What did couldn't Hughes do with all those different coaches?
Speaker 5 (13:00):
There's some guys that can handle four coaches and five years.
Some guys can't do it.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
For time, Yeah, you got like two minutes here, hold on,
let me show it one more time, just in case
anybody missed it. The quote one more time? Should we
put it up one more time. Deck you got that
boom just to make.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Sure you're making fun of us. Now you're making fun
of us. This is ridiculous. You say that and then,
and yet we were able to have a three four
minute discussion about it. So there's something to it. Hey, man,
I coudn'tbelieve. Can you get up earlier, go to sleep.
Here here's a get up earlier and get into into
the shop.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
Or here's some advice. Get the app the traffic out.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Oh you you can't talk to me about traffic or apps.
Speaker 5 (13:44):
Get there's an app that shows you each road. If
it's red, it means there's a ton of traffic. Yes,
get the app.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Yes, and when you wake up, take a look at
what roads are busy.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
I do that every guy. I do that every morning.
It was it was worse than the app said.
Speaker 5 (14:01):
Traffic is bad out of White Rock, right by King George.
Now as soon as you get on King George it
is jam packed.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Got your app? What's the problem.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
But it wasn't like that last year and this year.
I have a hard time believing.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Right down the hill on white.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
There's a million cars. It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. And the tunnel,
forget about it. Don't even gold in the tunnel.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
You have the easiest commute of all of us.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Yeah, I got a cross to bridge in yet like
it has just been like they've put that extension, the
Evergreen Extension, the Millennium line that makes things waysier. Yeah.
Plus you know even even driving it.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Yeah yeah, but again you have this smooth sailing. Rick
and I are out out with people cross two bridges.
It's ridiculous. No people in the Tri Cities area.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
Do you have a bridge to deal with? No bridges? Boom,
no bridges. You're lucky, smoke.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Dtmz. Is it just me coming up? You know what?
Get another Hoglander quote? Okay for this guy quote? Dtmz,
Is it just me coming up? In the eleven o'clock hour,
John Shannon is going to join us just after eleven o'clock.
I know it's been a while, but John's been around
for a while and he could talk about the late
great Bernie Purnt, amongst other issues. We got a show, yes,
(15:17):
well that, we'll do that later, but also Zadorasco last
night in over. Oh, we'll get to that.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
And the Bruins uniforms, Oh my gosh, oh, my.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
Gosh, so good. Big Ride the Twitter guy coming up
later this hour. See if you can work that Hoglander
quote in there. Ryan and up next. We talked a
lot this week about Nathan Roker has talked a lot
this week about the CFL rule changes, and with that
in mind and the Lions hosting Toronto on Friday, the Argonauts,
(15:49):
Neil McAvoy is going to join us VP of Football

More on them a little bit later. It's been big
news across the country, even down south this past week,
the CFL coming up with several rule changes which will
be in place for twenty twenty six and some in
(17:14):
twenty twenty seven. Here to talk about that as his
team gets ready to play the Argonauts host the Argonauts
Friday at BC Place. Lions VP of Football Operations, longtime
Lions employee Neil McAvoy, our friend, Neil, Thanks for doing.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
This, sir.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
How are you.
Speaker 8 (17:31):
I'm doing great? Thanks for having me on guys. It's
always a pleasure to talk to you guys. And first
of all, before I forget, my congratulations for you for
taking the you know, the less days and not having
to work with Rick for five days. Yeah, years coming,
like we've talked about before, years of the planning. So
congratulations we're able to do that.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
I appreciate that. Neil. Your take, well, very simply, your
take on the CFL rule changes.
Speaker 8 (17:58):
You know what a little bit torn To be quite honest,
I love the Canadian Football League as you guys know,
I love the rules, but you know what, maybe it's
time to make some changes, you know what. And these changes,
some of these changes I've been looking and asking for
for a while. I like the thirty five second clock.
I do like the fifteen yard end zone. We played
the fifteen yard end zone in Victoria this last preseason game.
I thought it was I thought it looked really good
(18:19):
and honestly, people didn't even know we did it. So
small changes like that that will help the infrastructure of
most of the stadiums in the Canadian Football League.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
I like.
Speaker 8 (18:28):
So, you know what, Yeah, change is change. It's time
to modernize the game and get going. But these people
who say we're americanizing the game, we still have twelve players,
we still have Canadian players, still have three downs. All
the things that you consider to be the Canadian Football
League are staying intact. And so, like I said, changes change,
and it's time to modernize the game and get better.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Kate Neil. For the people who aren't as up on
football in its rules as you are, and other people are.
The thirty five second clock, there are some people but
complaining about that. The move from the twenty second clock
why do you feel this is better.
Speaker 8 (19:06):
Well, again, the thirty five second clock will give us
more offensive plays because right now, okay, then the game
last week we played against Calgary, we had a great lead.
We ran two plays in two minutes. Okay, that's ran
the receiver way down the field by the time the
receiver jogged back. When the receiver's in the huddle, then
(19:28):
we hey, let's make a change to the offense. So
the referee has his hands out and so after a minute,
he didn't even start the twenty second clock until a
minute fifteen after the last play plus twenty so we're
a minute and forty five seconds. So this will now
speed up the game. And I know the peerists will say, hey,
in the last two or the last three minutes, the
(19:49):
three minute warning. But again in that game last week,
the Calgary stam Peters lost three players in the last
three minutes. You think they wouldn't want to have the
thirty five second clock where they could just kill the
clock and end the game. Now, albeit obviously in tight
games you're gonna have to see these offenses have to
hurry up like they do National Football League. So I
(20:09):
like the thirty five second clock will speed the game up.
I know it sounds odd that we're going from twenty
to thirty and things will speed up, but it's just
going to be more, I think, more in conjunction with
things moving forward.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Yeah, forty second clock in the National Football League for
people who don't know, and this is one last thing
for the officials to worry about. So there's that as well. Meanwhile, Neil,
it's been well documented. We ran the clips on the
show yesterday. We know what your quarterback, Nathan Rourke thinks
of the rule changes. He called them garbage. Do you
(20:41):
understand where he's coming from.
Speaker 8 (20:43):
Hey, I spoke to Nathan after I spoke to Nathan before. Hey,
I'm glad he had his opinion. There's nothing worse than
making Okay, we've made The Canadian Football League came out
with an announcement Monday and everyone nationwide had an opinion,
which is great. There's been nothing worse than making the
announcement and no one caring. Nathan cares about his sport.
(21:04):
He plays in the Canadian Football League. He's a player.
He should be able to speak about what his thoughts are.
He doesn't like the rules. God bless him. I'm glad
he was able to say some things to challenge, you know,
some of the rules that he feels are not right.
There'd be nothing worse than him sitting in the corner
and just complaining about it ten years from now when
he should have said something. So Hey, everyone has an opinion.
(21:25):
That's great. That's why it's sports. That's why we talk
about it. And you know, that's one of the reasons
why these changes were made, to say, if we can
make things better.
Speaker 5 (21:32):
Neil, you said you talked to Nathan. Has the commissioner
talk to him yet?
Speaker 8 (21:37):
I'm not sure. I think they were supposed to. I honestly,
I don't know. I mean, I'm sure they have, But
you know what, at the end of the day, Nathan's
an amazing human. He's not going to you know, he's
not going to ruffle feathers. But at the end, you know,
he was upset and he was spoke his opinion after practice,
which again I'm glad he was able to have that
form to say what he really thought.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
All right, oar goes here Friday, number one on offense
in the CFL. Right now, Nathan is going guns of
blazing seven straight games thirty plus points. Talk about the offense.
And last week you didn't have your running back, you
didn't have a receiver, you didn't have an offensive lineman.
Put up fifteen Calgary boy Neil. This offense is fun
to watch.
Speaker 8 (22:16):
Well, yeah, and it starts with Nathan as we know.
But let's talk about the guys like Xander Horvath who
came in. You know, everyone didn't give him a chance.
Everyone's like, oh god, you guys are gonna get rolled. Well,
guess what. Xander is a professional athlete, played a Purdue
and can run. Same thing with Javon Katoy. We lost Javon, Well,
the next guy up is Karen Passant. Well, Kieren had
three catches and did we really you know, the ball moved.
(22:37):
Not to say we didn't miss, you know, Katoy, because
he's such an amazing blocker and such a big man.
But we were able to move the offense. And maybe
Calvary played our offense like they thought we had all
our guys in and that we didn't. So we had
we had to make adjustments and they were just able
to you know, adjust and process what we're doing, which
is how I dreamt this offense would be. With a
(22:58):
guy like Nathan, he is processing at such a high level.
You have to be able to match the energy, match
the schemes, and match everything else or things will get
out of hand for you, which is good for us
and not good for the opposing teams.
Speaker 5 (23:10):
Neil your defense a lot of heat on Mike Benavidish.
There were some games at defense lost in the last
minute this season. Talk about the defense in the last
couple of weeks.
Speaker 8 (23:20):
Yeah, okay, So, like I told you while you're on
your expensive summer vacation, while we were having a couple
you know, off weeks there. You know what, you have
to give the credit to the offenses in the Canadian
Football League that we play. Those guys get paid. When
we lost against Hamilton at home, bo Leivi I Mitchell
put on a show and was able to, you know,
dissect our defense, which is a god bless them. It's
(23:40):
like our offense we're saying, hey, what a great offense
to play, which we did. But you know what, we
were able to beat Calgary because we played at a
higher level. Our defense plays at a high level. But
these offenses coming in just like ours, are really tough
to deal with. When you have these amazing athletes, when
you have these offensive schemes that are coming at you,
you know, the unlimited motion and everything else. So, hey,
(24:01):
I like our defense, but at times, I mean, these
offenses coming into the town, they do put on a show,
and that's what it's all about, scoring points, and it's
just our job to stop him. And we've been able
to do that the last couple of weeks. So I'm
glad we have been able to step up and keep
the energy up. And you know what, like last game,
Calgary led off for one, you know, a fraction of
a second, and we never let up and the game
was over for them. So if we can keep on
(24:22):
doing that, we're gonna be all right.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
James Butler is having an outstanding season, but along comes
Xander horror that pro sports is a tough business. I mean,
you can't ask anything more of James Butler, but what
the future going forward given these two outstanding running backs?
Speaker 8 (24:37):
Neil, Yeah, I mean, and I was really excited for
Xander because you know what, basically you're just thrown in there. Hey,
is James up until Wednesday? We played Friday Wednesday. James,
he was wanting to play, but we made the decision, Hey,
let's get the healthier guy in there. And Xander is
a student of the game. He knows all the blocking techniques,
he knows where the ball should go, he knows how
(24:57):
to do all the protection stuff. So when he he
got the ball and was able to run like he
at one point had a fourteen yard average in that game,
which is amazing for a running back regardless of the level.
So I was excited for him. But you know what
that shows, e's Ander. He's been working his butt off
all year since training camp to get into the roster,
to get on the roster. He finally got in and
showed us, Hey, we're not going to be able to
(25:19):
take this guy off because he's so dominant, which is
great for our offense.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Good luck on Friday and the rest of the season, Neil.
Speaker 8 (25:25):
Thanks guys, have a great show. To look forward to
talking to you in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
You bet. Neil McAvoy, VP Football Operations, BC Lions, Lions
and Toronto on Friday. A lot made yesterday on social
media on Twitter for me about the rule changes, and
there were several people who made the point that there
are only two real significant similarities when it comes to
(25:51):
the changes NFL and CFL, and that's the change to
the one hundred yard field and the uprights of the
back of the end zone. Everything else remains different. Obviously,
there's gonna be some extensions that they're playing with a
ball and things like that. There are obvious things. But
I made the point yesterday. I think at one hundred
yard field and the fifteen yard end zone is gonna
(26:13):
look better on television. And you know, Stuart Johnson's a
TV guy. If you got we're gonna have him on
the show tomorrow, So we'll ask him about that. If
that was a good point, If that was a factor
at all, Okay, uh, take a break, big Rye coming
up in a couple of segments. Up next, we'll update
the pole question, among other things. Donny Doling the team
one check Botbling God poll question experience, one of Betray's
(26:46):
iconic destinations, the dog sleep sip stock up all in
one legendary spot. Come sit and stay at the wattling Dog.
The dog today, Ryan, get her up the wattling Dog.
Pop pole question.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
Which are these Hatbospord playoffs are most likely going to
stick with the Canucks this year? Baine Sasana, Carlson Carlson
leading at seventy six percent, then comes the San at
fifteen and then Baine's at ten five hundred plus votes already.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
So there you go.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
Put one of these three guys don Opening Night will
be there. There's no question. There's no question one.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Of these three guys Opening night will be in the
Vancouver lineup.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
No question.
Speaker 5 (27:24):
Well, they need guys, Donnie. You need cheap young talent.
You can't be paying everyone three four five million. You
need young guys in today's salary cap world to make
it and bust through.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
People might be wondering why I too. Ratu isn't on
this list. He is playing tonight in Abitsford. These three players,
all in their mid twenties, all with limited NHL experience.
That line was outstanding Baines, Sassin and Carlson for people
who are just tuning in. Bain Sassin, Carlson outstanding for
Abbotsford during the Call to Cup run last year. They
(28:00):
are playing as a line tonight at least to start
out in Havtsford against Calgary and Ratu.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
One of the most impressive things the Canucks did last year,
Sorry Abby. They won the Cold Cup without Ratu and
he didn't play in the playoffs. They won the Colder
Cup without their number one center. Very impressive.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Yeah, and with the ratu. I think he gets a
lot of love from the Canucks, the NHL Canucks for
his ability to win face offs and his ability to
change hands on face off. If I'm not mistaken, their
depth chart right now, No right handed centers.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
No, and wouldn't the right handed center.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Like Braiden Coots.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
Braiden Coots, who I tell you that kid? He has
earned himself another game.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Done it well, really impressive a training camp and the
first first preseason game down and down in Seattle with
the assist on the Manseni goal. Okay, you wanted to
talk about Michael McCloud rick.
Speaker 5 (28:56):
Well, okay, so you mentioned the Canucks. If right handed center,
let's say fifteen twenty games in the Canucks, Donnie, are
Hetl's not cutting it? A second line center? Then you
got to go out and you've got to give up
a ton for a second line center. But there's two
centers right now that are out there right now, and
they don't cost you anything. Guess what, Donnie, nothing nothing.
(29:19):
Jack roslovic Ufa, Michael McLeod ufa, and what Mcloud's got
is he's a right shot center. He's a sixty three
six four, He's two hundred pounds right shot center. I'm
just saying, there's two right there, right now you can
get without giving up anything done. So I wonder if
the Canucks are poking around these two guys.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
McLeod one of the five players, oh yes, found not
guilty in the infamous London U eighteen trial. He played
in the KHL last season. High draft pick for the
Devil's Back in twenty sixth overall, Michael McLeod. And again
he is a right handed center, so we'll keep an eye,
keep an eye on that, okay. Also, uh, the Canucks
(30:02):
power play, We're okay to go here? Yeah, absolutely, okay.
So the Canucks power play. They worked on the power
play yesterday out at UBC. The first unit had and
this is without Connor Garland who didn't take part in
practice yesterday, but Quinn Hughes at the point. As you'd expect,
(30:22):
your shooters were Petterson on the right side and Evander
Kaine on the left side. Down low, Debrasque and Besser.
There's Jeff Patterson with a tweet.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
Rick Yeah, and loaded up, and you always put your
top guys on the and you got Kane, a big
guy at Donny. He's going to bring hard skill to
the Vancouver lineup like JT.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
Miller did.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
He is a.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Tough guy to deal with. He's got the size, the skill,
all that stuff.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
You want the shot though in that Vekin spot. Although
Kane is a left hander much like Miller, wouldn't.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
You want Kane in front of the net like Donny
with his size?
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Okay, let you read the patters for people who are
listening on the podcast. The Jeff Patterson tweeter EP forty
setting up on the right half wall, which we've seen
a lot before. A Besser at the bumper, debrask at
net front, Kane on the left boards, Hughes up top.
Speaker 5 (31:15):
Yeah, I might switch Kane in Deebraska. I think Kane
is a guy. I mean, he's got what it takes
to stand in front of the net.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
He's doing it for years.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
They can do whatever they want with the power play,
whatever they want with the power play. For me, obviously,
the key is Quinn Hughes the quarterback, without no doubt
about it. Right there with Queen Hughes is Peterson let
that shot go. He left hander on the right side
face off circle. He has hesitated to take that shot
(31:48):
for whatever reason, double clutched. He's got to We all know,
anybody who's watched the Canucks, we all know what a
wonderful shot he has, just absolutely outstanding. But he has
hesitated again or whatever. We're looking for the perfect play.
I'm not sure he's worried about hurting somebody like Sammy
Salo was back in the day. I'm not really sure.
(32:08):
But along with what he was to that's that's one
of one of the big keys and the.
Speaker 5 (32:14):
Power play numbers did last year, and when you don't
make the playoffs, one of the biggest reasons why you
don't make the playoffs is because your power play and
your penalty killing is not in the top half of
the league.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
I'm going to disagree with you here. I would put
Besser on that in that Avestan spot, the right hander
of the left fate face off circle, and maybe put
put Caine where Best is, or move to Brusk and
Kane up front and one can be in front the
net front, one at the bumper. But remember, you know
Best's got quite the shot there. Right hand or on
(32:44):
that that and the better angle with the right hander
of the left side. People who know howckey know what
I'm talking about, So I might I might do that.
He had Braydon Coots working on the second unit part
playing yesterday for what that's.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
Worth, and Kots was on a line with Kane and
Lakaramaki practice yesterday. The kid is just uh, he's kind
of taken the Canucks camp by storm breaking.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
And the number one story like in terms of being
a pleasant surprise, a pleasant surprise.
Speaker 5 (33:11):
They've sent a bunch of kids back to junior. They
haven't sent Coots back, you know, So this is the
kid's been unbelievable so far and he's earned himself another game.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
Okay, let's hear from Adam Foot yesterday after practice out
at UBC. Here's the new head coach on with some
help from Jeff Patterson working on his power play yesterday.
Did you're hand it all a little bit there with
some power play work?
Speaker 4 (33:35):
Is that what you're considering maybe for your first unit?
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (33:39):
Yeah, like wou'd be nice, right, I mean, you got
Garli there too. Who knows, we got to see what happens.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
But I just like once in a while in practice, I.
Speaker 8 (33:48):
Think it gets everyone goal up. And you know what,
when you play.
Speaker 9 (33:52):
The full ice like out of times two of them
like you didn't see it happened today. But even our PK,
it's normal for these guys.
Speaker 8 (33:58):
You don't want him to go hard clears up the
middle because you don't want.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Someone to get hurt.
Speaker 9 (34:01):
But off the glass we want to like it matters,
and you know we'll touch on that too. So it's
both our PK and our power play. But I think
it gets some confidence and some touches early and it
really picks up practice.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
Couldn't agree more. His second unit yesterday for you hockey
nerds out there like ourselves, Sherwood, Mineo, LECROMACKI, Heronica and
I mentioned Coots. Second unit of power play usually with
Mineo and Heronic usually includes two defense. Yep.
Speaker 4 (34:30):
Absolutely, but it's going to be Quinn.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
That's the right move, okay. So and one thing about
what he was talking about there, and it's so true.
Sometimes practice can bog down and when you work in
your power play and with penalty killers out there sometimes
with their sticks turned around, it wakes things up. Same
with battle drills.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
I saw them the other day, a battle drill beyond
the net.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
Well, we saw them doing a battle drill yesterday or
the day before, I can't remember what it was. It
was yesterday, but a battle drill with the net turned
around in the corner. And that's that's a minor hockey drill,
which is just an excellent drill and wakes everybody up,
wakes and I compete. That's big for Adam Foot. Sometimes
during the you know when you did radio's the drill
(35:10):
we're talking about. And if you're involved in minor hockey
or junior hockey, whatever the case, this drill goes way back.
Everybody does it and it wakes people up. It's a
battle drill. Well, the thing with this drill is that
it's it's in the corner with the net turned around
facing the corner. There's not much room. And at that level,
the National Hockey League level, this is bang on. There
(35:32):
is not much room. But a drill like this wakes
everybody up and it ups the compete level, and I
get the feeling. Adam Foot loves this type of thing.
Everybody talks about the pace at camp, the pace of
this practice, and I can't agree more.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
Okay, So last year, what was the number one issue
with the Canucks. One of them was practice habits and
that's what Foot and talk It complained about last year,
practice habits. They got to be better, you know the
old scene of minor hockey to tell the kids, you
know what, play like your practice, and it's got to
be better this year.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Donnie. It all starts in practice.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
And he mentioned it again yesterday yesterday, Adam Foot, we
got to be better in practice.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
So there you go.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
Okay, speaking of practice, we've got we'll talk about their
practice facilities. Okay it doesn't exist, but talk about the
latest on a possible practice facility for the Canucks later
on the show. It has to do with my hometown,
Derek's hometown, Yeah, Burnaby, So we'll do that. And I
(36:31):
also want to show what Nikita is that our office
up to yesterday, so that's coming up a little bit later.
And again we talk about the Lions playing tomorrow night
at that Friday night at BC Place against Toronto White
Caps tonight at BC Place, all right against Portland. Okay, okay,
(36:53):
what else is coming up on the show, DTMC is
it just me in the next hour along with John
Shannon I've got some business to do, and then we'll
throw to break Thursday Able Auctions. We'll sell the contents
of a closed Langford wood shop a twenty twenty two

the tailor was correct. T A. I L E. R. Yeah,
(37:17):

get that hog lander a quote up again?
Speaker 1 (37:22):

Speaker 3 (37:23):

Speaker 1 (37:52):
Product there, Ryan, No, it doesn't exist. The viewer listener
yesterday was point poking fun at you, why saying Taylor, yeah,
that is a tool, wasn't there?
Speaker 3 (38:06):
Tim the tutor tool guy, Tim the tool man Taylor, Yeah,
or Tim the tooler, timol guy Home Improvement Taylor, that
was a good show.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
You hated that show, but it was a good show.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
I found it that funny. I thought it was good.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
Yeah, Tim the tool Guy.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Yeah, Home Improvement was up there with Big Bang Theory
as super popular show. Is that. I don't think I
ever laughed at you know, Two and a Half Men,
same thing. I never laughed two and a half. I don't,
I can't. I don't know why.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
What about Arrested Development?
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Oh that's funny. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
Jason Bateman's in the news right now because he's got
a new show out, so he's been doing a lot
of interviews. I've never seen the rest.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
Of Development, and I like, haven't seen it. No, I
like Bateman. But yeah, did I mention I saw the
Spinal Tap? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Yeah, filmbs up and you and the three other people
in the theater all really enjoyed it.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
Okay. There is a scene in the first Spinal Tap
where they play second billing to a pup a show
it was and nobody showed up. It was perfect for
the movie, and that's kind of what I experienced watching
it live.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
The people who love Spinal Tap, I think will love
and I'm one of them. Shane Foxman, my old buddy,
from the c FO. He watched it, he loves spinal tap.
He hasn't seen it.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
He hasn't seen it with texting, Okay, don't ruin it
for him.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
That won't sales at a b l E Auctions Dot

I had a big ride the Twitter guy early. Is
it just me? Why is every Leaf preseason game on
TV and no Canucks. Ricky is the only guy happy
(40:26):
about that, being a big fan of every Toronto stop.
Speaker 5 (40:30):
And I'm not ant about a Toronto guy like the
Blue Jays. I hate everything else about Toronto, but I
am a Blue Blue Jays guy. I am one hundred
pissed off. Last night, Springer got screwed with the hit
yeah down the.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
Third base final.
Speaker 5 (40:45):
Yeah, you know, and they should have you know, they
should have won last night. The umpire screwed them. The
third base umpire screwed them last night.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Well, we'll keep in mind they were five games up
on September sixteenth, not that long ago. Now, just a
one game lead over the Yankees with what five games left?
Speaker 5 (41:00):
They've lost five of the they've lost five at the
past six. But they were on a thirteen games in
thirteen days run.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
You know everything about your you know what ye.
Speaker 5 (41:11):
On the road, stop on the road, thirteen days, thirteen games.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
That's too much because he had no No baseball teams
have tough schedules, Yeah, Donny, Mariners clinch yesterday.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
And let's talk about the team that matters, Okay, the
team that manners around here, that is the Seattle Miners.
Clinching a playoff victory last night down in Seattle at
T Mobile Park against the Colorado Rockies. It was dicey
for a moment there. They were actually down in the
game against the wolful Rockies, but Josh Naylor hit a
clutch Canadian Josh Naylor hit a clutch double to seal
(41:48):
things for the Mariners. You're gonna see at the back
end of this clip that that was the Naylor double
right there.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
He was fired up.
Speaker 1 (41:53):
He's been he's been unbelievable since being acquired at the
trade deadline of the Seattle Manners.
Speaker 3 (41:59):
Josh Naylor if he gets resigned.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
So they they they they pull up the victory and
they did what we talked about earlier on in the week.
They had the champagne flowing in the locker room afterward.
Speaker 3 (42:11):
Uh, you're okay with that with no, it's a team
you like.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
No, No, it's still I don't get it.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
I don't get I don't understand that it's done.
Speaker 1 (42:18):
They had the cigars going here to hear the goggles
champagne cigars.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
You know, I don't mind it. You know why, because
these players are probably well aware that players from and
followers of other sports hate that and that makes them
like maybe more it's fussy, that's the tradition. Well everything
I thought you were going to go here.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
And that is the fact that this is the sixth
time in franchise history, six times that the Mariners are
going to be in the postseason.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
And they had in nineteen seventy five. They came in
with the Blue.
Speaker 4 (42:49):
J Yeah right, uh yeah, Pat Gillick.
Speaker 5 (42:51):
Remember when ten forty started, they were really good against
the Yankees and the Alcs.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
That was good. Is that the last time they were
in the playoffs the.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
Mariners, No, last time they wanted a division the division
was one. Yeah, and by the sixteen win team, wasn't.
Speaker 1 (43:03):
It won sixteenth? They won one sixteen that year.
Speaker 3 (43:05):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (43:05):
The magic number four the Mariners, by the way, they
clinch the AO West is down to one. If they
win tonight against the Rockies, they'll do it. Or the
Astros are in Sacramento. They're so bizarre to say, and
they lost last night. If they lose again, the Mariners
will clinch the AL West.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
Or you know what else is where it is Tampa
Bay playing at George Steiner. Yeah, that's strange as well.
Speaker 1 (43:25):
And they're going back.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
But you know, up here we talk about the Canucks
a lot, and oh my god, it's a it's just
so sad their history. But you look at the Pacific
Northwest and all the pro sports teams around here. Yeah,
the Mirrors are by far the most. Like six playoff
berths and hats off to what they're doing now, but
just six playoff burst birth since nineteen seventy seven. Crazy, Yeah,
(43:50):
I say seventy five earlier seventy seven.
Speaker 1 (43:52):
It's I mean, it's ridiculous, like it's uh. The last
postseason appearance, by the way for the Mariners is twenty
twenty too well against the Blue jaysus against the Blue Jays.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
Yeah they won, Yeah, they won.
Speaker 1 (44:04):
So there is a path forward here if the Jays
make it through the DS along with the Mariners, the
Alcs for a chance to go to the World.
Speaker 3 (44:15):
Series would be yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:17):
Versus Toronto, And that I mean content wise, I'm not
necessarily sure it would have broad appeal across the United
States specifically and baseball as a whole, But in this
part of the globe it would.
Speaker 3 (44:29):
Be very I think obviously in Toronto's Seattle, But how
much interest would there be here in that Unlike you,
there are some other people with brains in their head
who like the Mariners. Yeah, they're just down the road. Well,
you know what I have. I've watched, I've winched, I've
seen Blue Jays games. I've seen way more Mariners games.
(44:50):
I feel a closer connection to them than I do too.
Speaker 5 (44:53):
Yes, so you're gonna vote for an American city two
hours down the highways. You love your cheese until mock
or whatever that is. And yeah, so now you're gonna
root for you ripping me for going to balla spirit,
But you're gonna cheer for the Mariners.
Speaker 3 (45:07):
Okay, but I'm not. I'm not. Oh, I guess you
have bought tickets down there through the years. But I'm
in the broadcast business and I nothing and just watching
sports in Canada and getting Toronto shut my throat every
three seconds. That's why, even more so than a love
(45:27):
for the Mariners, that's why I'd be pulling for the men.
Speaker 5 (45:30):
It's a Canadian team. It's you only you know my team,
it's the only Canadian team. Ninety ninety three.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
Joe Carter? You know, are you?
Speaker 4 (45:38):
What were you do when Joe Carter hit that Homer.
Speaker 3 (45:40):
I wasn't cheering. Oh okay with him?
Speaker 4 (45:42):
Oh is that a party? We went nuts?
Speaker 3 (45:45):
Yeah? How many you've been laid off? Like I have
sad care people in Toronto and you're okay with that?
Speaker 5 (45:51):
The suits in Toronto that ruined Vancouver Radio or idiots.
I agree with you, But this is a baseball team,
Canada's team, two time World Series chaps.
Speaker 3 (46:01):
Get on the bad wagon. Ain't gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (46:05):
No, I agree, Well, you know he scause Joe Carter
did nothing for you.
Speaker 3 (46:09):
It's good, It's good. It was a good moment. I remember,
you know, watching it was fun. I jumped five hundred
feet in the air. Yeah, who didn't.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
Well, And when Batista hit his home run, there was
other media members that jumped up high in the air.
Speaker 3 (46:22):
That's completely inside.
Speaker 1 (46:23):
Batista's coming across well in these days, oh yeah, more
than sold. Speaking of Mary Brown's when he was when
he was playing, Yeah, he's a spokesperson from Mary Brown's Chicken.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
We were having a conversation off the air. It off
their Mary Brown's Chicken place.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
Chicken.
Speaker 3 (46:39):
I do not know what Mary Brown's Chicken is.
Speaker 1 (46:43):
Chicken.
Speaker 3 (46:43):
The orange and blue logo Popeyes in Canada or US Canada.
Speaker 1 (46:47):
In fact, it never heard of it. I've never heard
of Mary Brown's. I only I go to Kentucky Fried
the Colonel. So that's American. That's bat shame. So where
is it in Vancouver?
Speaker 3 (46:56):
There's one in Poco Wrry Brown, Mary Brown one girl.
There's the other one.
Speaker 5 (47:01):
There's another Chicken place, Browns or something, Churches Browns Urches Chicken. Anyways,
the Colonel all the way Kentucky front.
Speaker 3 (47:11):
Mary.
Speaker 1 (47:11):
I'm telling you, I'm looking at the Mariners schedule. I
might sneak down there for games. What I mean, now,
you're gonna go put money in the American economy.
Speaker 3 (47:17):
I mean you just went to LA for holidays.
Speaker 4 (47:20):
No, I did not go to La.
Speaker 5 (47:22):
I went to LA and I hopped off a boat
and onto a plane two hours later.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
I was you bought nothing. No, I didn't say that.
Speaker 3 (47:32):
I didn't say that. I hopped on other things. Okay,
that's it for me.
Speaker 1 (47:36):

thanks for doing this sertinal wished you an early big
(49:04):
Mary Monday.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
Yeah, holy spokes big.
Speaker 11 (49:07):
You know there are more than three hundred franchises across
the country for Mary Brown. Yeah, wow, that I thought
it was really I'll tell you what fifteen in the
Lower Mainland.
Speaker 3 (49:17):
Yeah kind of scene.
Speaker 11 (49:20):
What are your shareholder Listen? Anything that started in St. John's,
Newfoundland is good enough for me.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
Yes, wow, it did. I had no clue you knew that. Yeah,
no clue about that, No clue that you knew it. Okay,
do you mind if we because Craig Button yesterday we
had him on the show. He's a hockey expert, of course,
but proud Canadian follows the CFL and he just ignored
our hockey right off the top, and he wanted to
(49:48):
talk about the CFL rule changes. Did you have an
opinion on that? John?
Speaker 11 (49:54):
Oh, I always have an opinion. I'm not sure it's right.
I don't I like the redefinition of the rouge. I
think that, you know, you shouldn't get rewarded for punting
from the fifteen yard line and have to go through
the end zone get a point, or the same thing.
Speaker 3 (50:11):
With the field goal.
Speaker 11 (50:14):
I the only one I kind of disagree with is.
I'm disappointed the fifty five yard line has gone away.
I think that with the with the twelve players on
the field, I think that we needed the extra yardage,
the extra ten yards. I did think it made a difference.
(50:34):
I understand why they're doing it. I also think that,
you know, for the longest time, we have even in
my lifetime, we have never had the exact same nine
end zones CFL never, We've never had it for.
Speaker 8 (50:52):
The longest time.
Speaker 11 (50:55):
Empire taylor Field, taylor Field was never regulation in the
end zones for years and years and years, and they
have the problem in Montreal. Still, they have the problem
in Toronto, which right now is only seventeen yards for
the end zone. And so if they can standardize that
then great. The question for me becomes, is you know
(51:20):
the concept of the field goal when you think that
it's fifteen yards longer from the goal line. So at
the thirty five, when you're at the thirty five and
it's you know, third and six and you're going to kick,
you're going to decide whether you're going to gamble or kick.
Are we going to actually see more teams try to
(51:40):
gamble on third and six to get the first down,
because yeah, it's going to be impossible fifty two more
than that fifty seven. So are we going to actually
promote more of fens. I'm not sure about the clock yet.
I I hope it doesn't compromise what has been great
(52:02):
in the CFL for so many years, but I'm prepared
to listen. Stu Johnson at least has given this some thought.
Speaker 3 (52:08):
I like Stu.
Speaker 11 (52:09):
I like what he's going to do for the game,
and hopefully it'll make it more attractive. As long as
we don't change the four downs, I'm a happy man.
Speaker 5 (52:17):
John Let's talk hockey Canadian teams. Which one could be
a surprise for you? Which one could go backwards for you?
Speaker 11 (52:29):
I will be surprised if Calgary is close to the
playoffs as they were last year. You know it's going
to be a tough year in Calgary, so they're going
to be I think the team that falls off a
little bit. I do wonder about what is going to
happen in in in Rick's favorite town, Toronto, Let's stop it. Well,
(52:51):
you like you like the Blue Jays, There's nothing wrong.
Speaker 4 (52:53):
With liking the blue but nothing after that.
Speaker 11 (52:56):
You don't mind the Raptors like he likes John Well, no,
I don't wait where yet to be proven.
Speaker 8 (53:03):
That is yet to be proven.
Speaker 1 (53:05):
There's a nice little there's a nice there's a nice
restaurant in Vaughan that I like in v Vaughn.
Speaker 4 (53:14):
That's where I met Farris. Fort Vaughn is a beautiful.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
The only vacation in l A.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
Oh Donnie, the food there, Oh, it was so good
going like going to Vaughan for me is like going
to chiliwac.
Speaker 11 (53:30):
So come on now. Anyway, that's that's neither here nor there.
I do think Toronto might be the maybe the biggest disappointment.
I don't know how you replace one hundred and two points.
You know, the pressure on this team to win post
Marner is going to be a huge factor, and I
(53:54):
don't think that. And I think Brad knows that he
hasn't really replaced what Marner brings, and so you have
to wonder what he's going to try to do between
now and and the Olympic break in order to try
to get this team back on track. Because the Atlantic Division, guys,
the Atlantic Division is going to be hell. When you
think that Montreal and Ottawa are still going to be improved,
(54:16):
Detroit's going to have to do something. I think the
Sabers are going to be better. There are eight teams
in my mind in the Atlantic Division vuying for five
spots in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (54:28):
Hey, John, last year, Jeremy Swayman the contract dispute and
then he had a tough time and we got two
big names not signed. You at, Mason McTavish, Luke Hughes.
What's going on there these guys? Hey, missing caps a
big deal?
Speaker 4 (54:41):
Now, John, is it really?
Speaker 11 (54:45):
Seriously?
Speaker 3 (54:46):
Is it?
Speaker 12 (54:46):
Go?
Speaker 5 (54:47):
Ask Pat Verbeek because he said that if McTavish is
missing quality time and it's gonna hurt him to play
catch up.
Speaker 11 (54:54):
Well, I mean, what do we If it's that important,
why are we making it smaller next year and adding
those two games to the regular season?
Speaker 3 (55:03):
You know as well as I do.
Speaker 11 (55:04):
Now, these guys are in great shape all season long.
Are they in game shape? No, you're right, they're not
in game shape. But you know, Mason McTavish and Luke
Hughes both young guys. I mean Masons skating with the
Ottawa sixty seven's Luke skating. I don't see it as
a major problem. They these guys have earned the right
(55:28):
to have this issue at this point. The fascination for
me is that this is the one time, particularly in
the Luke Hughes situation, where the team is supposed to
have leverage, yes, supposed to have the leverage at this point,
out of an entry level deal, and and they're trying
to solve the problem, and you know, the the Hughes.
(55:49):
I don't want to call it a soap opera, but
the Hughes story is one that is going to dominate
the National Hockey League for the next three or four years.
When you consider this one, then we're going to worry
about Quinn and then we're gonna worry about Jack. So
all of a sudden, the Hughes family are going to
be a focal point for a long period of time
when it comes to contracts.
Speaker 3 (56:09):
We might even talk about it in Vancouver. Hey, John,
I think this is the third week in a row
we've had to talk about and I know it's been
a few days, but I don't want to get your thoughts.
We had to talk about the passing of a Hall
of Fame goaltender Ken Dryden ed ed Jockoman and now
at the age of eighty, the late Great Bernie Parunt.
Your memories of the Flyers legend.
Speaker 11 (56:31):
Well, I mean the Flyers. I was just going to
university when the Flyers were the big bad and the
team Road Street. Yeah, the Broad Street Bullies, but they
were not going to be nearly as good if they
didn't have goaltending. And Bernie Parant, who you know, was
(56:54):
picked up in the expansion draft from the Bruins because
he played behind Jerry Chievers and Eddie Johnson, was one
of those guys that was a lynchpin.
Speaker 3 (57:03):
Now.
Speaker 11 (57:04):
The fascination for me, Donnie, and not to be too
much of a nerd about this, is he was a
good goalie prior to signing with the Miami Screaming Eagles.
Speaker 3 (57:14):
Yes, one of the.
Speaker 11 (57:15):
First players to jump to the WHA. That team ended
up being the Philadelphia Blazer, so he played in Philadelphia
for the year.
Speaker 3 (57:24):
But he also.
Speaker 11 (57:25):
Remember he got traded to Toronto because the Flyers were
so mad he signed in the WHA, so they traded
him to Toronto and he got to play with Jock
plant and that became the real turning point in Parant's
career because a year with Plont is like going and
spending a year with a mad professor, and plant was
(57:46):
the ultimate mad professor about goaltending. And from that point on,
parant was a huge factor until the eye injury. So
and he was a stand up goalie. It was a
Pears the other man. Magnificent thing about parant now was
you know, it's been fifty years since that team won
the Stanley Cup. Fifty years Bernie parant Is still was
(58:08):
still considered a legend, not just amongst hockey fans in Philadelphia,
but amongst Philadelphian's period. And that was the impact he made,
and not only as a goalie, but as a person
in the Delaware Valley.
Speaker 3 (58:22):
He was.
Speaker 11 (58:24):
One of the great personified professional athletes in that area.
People loved him in Philadelphia and he certainly will be
missed from that reason alone, let alone what he did
on the ice. Again, another guy like Kenny Dryden, another
guy that had huge impact in a very short career, yes,
(58:45):
very infortant career compared to what you think of other guys.
Speaker 3 (58:49):
What a goalie, what a personality. God rest his soul. John,
Thanks for this. Cheers boys, you bet John Shannon, like
you say, clearly a shares and Mary Browns.
Speaker 5 (59:02):
Hey, the Philadelphia teams Donny Bobby Clark the Dornhoff for
McLeish Barber. Oh those two. Those two teams were so
fun to watch. Well, just had everything you could want
and then.
Speaker 3 (59:15):
The star goalie. Yeah and pretty pro. I'm not sure
if anybody's done this before, but back to back years
with a Stanley Cup, a Vesna and a consmith. Pretty
special in there. And there's what he did for the
flyers off the ice. A break will update the pull
question next Donnie Donning the team.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
On check Donnie and Dolly.
Speaker 7 (59:35):

Pop poll question, which are these Abosford Playoffs stars most
likely to stick with the Canuxus season? Linas Carlson leading
way out in front of seventy five percent, Then comes
Maxson at fifteen and then Narsty Baines at ten percent
six hundred and eighty votes.
Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
Already, Archteap has the hands, Max has the speed. Lina's
Carlson the grit, the grit, he's got pain, the neck,
pain of the ass to play against the Cunducks needs
some of that. They need speed too, but they do.
They definitely need something something that Carlson has.
Speaker 5 (01:01:08):
Well, the guy that's got the speed in that group
is Thesan. He goes one hundred miles an hour.
Speaker 3 (01:01:14):
So what are he's saying?
Speaker 4 (01:01:15):
Well, you know, hey, if you want speed in the lineup,
that's the guy if you want speed.
Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
Okay, we have an update and up and the reason
let me just start out this way. Baines, Assassin and
Carlson are playing as a line tonight in Abtsford, much
like they did during Abtsford called their Cup run. They
were such a big part of that seasons, huge last season.
So that's why we threw those three players, I think
(01:01:40):
on the on the pole question. We have an updated
lineup tweet from our friend Jeff Patterson's All Over Today show.
Speaker 5 (01:01:47):
Jeff's great, He's a good friend of ours, good pal
of ours, should be on our show weekly. But anyways, Donny,
what h So here's the lineup. Everything's the same except
demp Goo and tol Apilo. Tolopillo who is great in Seattle.
And keep this in mind. On Tolapillo, he's very important
this year people because if dem Gore lanking to get
(01:02:08):
an injured Donny, that's your guy that's got to come
up back up at the NHL level and be that
guy to supply good backup minutes in Vancouver, Tolapilo and.
Speaker 3 (01:02:21):
Mid the second round draft pick is back in Junior
Medvedev andres are that going here? Andre Medvedev, that's the
kid goal in the future.
Speaker 5 (01:02:32):
Uh So, anyways, and your buddy Alcoss right there, Donny,
coach fer Hockey Coast. The reason al Coast is Ray
Parker Parker, Al park Moody, Donnie coached him. That's why
you got drafted in the National hockey ya, because the
Donney's coaching minor hockey league level.
Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
It's not Andre Medvedev by Andre's tennis by Andre Medvedev,
is it?
Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
He's not in the Canucks argan on.
Speaker 5 (01:02:58):
There's a tennis player named Andre Medvedev. That's why I
got it mixed up. It's Alexi Medvedev of the Canucks,
and Andre Medvedev is a tennis player.
Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
Yeah, you are right, thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:03:08):
So it's a good it's a former tennis Floridian.
Speaker 4 (01:03:12):
Slip or whatever. But anyways, uh.
Speaker 3 (01:03:15):
Andre Medvedev is fifty one years old, not even a
tennis player.
Speaker 5 (01:03:21):
Stop Alexi Medvedev. Okay, I goalie the future for the Canucks.
Why did I bring it up?
Speaker 3 (01:03:27):
But the last time we showed this lineup board, we
didn't know what the goaltending situation was. Now there you go.
Speaker 1 (01:03:32):
Now we do.
Speaker 4 (01:03:33):
Dempco is going to start tonight and then the incomes
to people.
Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
And Hoglander, who we talked about earlier on this show
on that line with Hedel and Mcki.
Speaker 5 (01:03:42):
And I'm really looking forward to seeing Wilander play with
an NHL veteran defenseman tonight, Marcus Patterson. This is going
to be good. Keep an eye on Wi Lander of
the Canucks first round pick tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:03:51):
Practice facility. What's the latest on a new practice facility?
Long awaited practice facility for the bankor of Canucks, the
only team in the National Hockey League without one, because
Calgary is getting one in the near future.
Speaker 5 (01:04:05):
Just hearing more and more of Burnaby and Bill Copeland
Arena certainly makes a lot of sense, Donnie. You and
I have talked about this. The Canucks had their practice
rank at eight ranks for years. You and I went
out there, covered every Canucks practice for years during the
Rick Lee, pac Quinn, Pavel Burry time. Can they add
twenty to twenty five thousand square feet of infrastructure around Copeland?
Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
They were close at UBC.
Speaker 5 (01:04:28):
They did the plans for exactly that twenty twenty five thousand,
and then the deal.
Speaker 1 (01:04:33):
Fell apart at the end.
Speaker 4 (01:04:34):
But just Bill Copeland Arena don makes too much sense
for me?
Speaker 1 (01:04:39):
Why not go there?
Speaker 5 (01:04:40):
And certainly hearing Bill Copeland's getting a lot of love.
Love not saying it's going to happen, but I'm saying
where there's love, there's love, and I'm hearing a lot
of love for Bill Corp.
Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
I screwed that up.
Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
But anyways, Bill Copeland Arena keeping one on.
Speaker 3 (01:04:56):
That they're thinking of adding a tennis facility and they're
consulting Medvedev about that. Well, I've told you this a
million times.
Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
You like Bill Copeland Burnaby area.
Speaker 3 (01:05:06):
Yeah, well it's my hometown with Burnaby. But you've got
Bill Copeland Arena and the old Burnaby Lake Arena. I
grew up playing lacrosse and hockey there. It's been demolished
along with C. G. Brown Pool. There's going to be
a new rink there. From my understanding, Derek knows about this.
He's a Burnaby guy as well. And my guess is
that's where the practice facility would be for the Caducks, right.
(01:05:29):
That's expected to be ready in early twenty twenty eight.
That's the projection anyway, So that would make sense. It's
in the middle of the Lower Mainland. And also also
there's that history there. Eight rinks is just across the street.
They've been there before. That would make a lot of sense.
Speaker 5 (01:05:45):
It's one of the things that they should certainly hearing
Burnaby and Bill Copeland makes a lot of sense.
Speaker 3 (01:05:51):
But it won't be actually Bill Copeland Arena, I don't
think anyway.
Speaker 1 (01:05:54):
Yeah, they've got to add stuff on.
Speaker 3 (01:05:56):
It, and it's not it's a public private I imagine
the way it would be. I don't know this for sure.
A public and private project, yeah and private done.
Speaker 5 (01:06:06):
Is it going to be the fancy dancy Florida Utah
Seattle practice facilities? No, it's not because if you start fresh, well,
that ship of sales, that ship of sale, this owner
doesn't want to spend the land, the money to buy
the land. Yeah, then it's gonna take two three years
to build it the fancy dancy stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
He doesn't want to do it.
Speaker 3 (01:06:25):
Yeah. Okay, we talked about Linis Carlson and what he
might add to the Connock some grit, maybe a little
bit of swagger. Yeah, and you were talking about this
a lot this morning before the show started. They add
some grit, and they add some swagger, you know, a
couple of springs ago twenty twenty four when they had
Nikita zador Off in the line, did you see what
(01:06:45):
he was up to? Well, oh, this was fun to watch,
and I know he had a tough season, last year's
first season with the Bruins. But the goal here, you know,
is nice enough. Kanknak fans have seen that shot before.
Look at the celebration, no celebration.
Speaker 1 (01:07:00):
He hawks off.
Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
Look I look at the backup goaltender. I think that's
Mikey dp after there. He loves it, but cocky, some
swagger there. Of course I scored, Yeah, of course I
scored it. Probably should have shot there, didn't made up
for it off. He goes, no celebration. It's his way
of saying, it's a preseason game. Who cares?
Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
Who cares?
Speaker 3 (01:07:19):
He's not going nuts celebrating. You know, I don't know
if it's a who cares thing. I think it's just cool.
The imagine if that was a playoff game and he
did that, that'd be great. The other thing and keep
it rolling here, Ryan, These new slash old Boston uniforms
are absolutely beautiful. This is a throwback to the to
(01:07:40):
the nineteen seventies bruinsed you know, Boston Garden when Don
Cherry was there. They've gotten rid of the shoulder yoke
and this is just these are absolutely fabulous. I always
wondered why they didn't go back to this a long
long time to look at those.
Speaker 5 (01:07:54):
Beautiful donny watching hockey in the seventies and eighties and
games in Boston Garden awesome is the best. And the
uniforms were part of the uniforms are part of it.
Small rink fans right on top of you.
Speaker 1 (01:08:05):
It was so nice.
Speaker 3 (01:08:08):
The steepest arena, well, actually there was two. I've never
made it to the stadium, I think that, but also
Buffalo Nobody, the auditorium, the odd auditorium, auditorium, some people
call it the auditorium, but it was extremely steep. Soone
was Winnipeg, the old Winnipeg Arena with the Queen. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
you've got some uh some business. They're not getting the
(01:08:30):
door off back by the way. I just thought it
was kind of fun.
Speaker 4 (01:08:33):
See sorry, but a big mistake letting them go, a
big mistake.

Speaker 3 (01:09:28):
What did I say? What did I say? When it
comes to bubbleheads or figurines.
Speaker 4 (01:09:32):
They don't look like the guy, They look like a cartoonish.
Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
It should look cartoonish. This is the way you should
do it. Because they try to replicate on bubble heads,
they trying to make it.
Speaker 1 (01:09:41):
It never look like the guy.
Speaker 3 (01:09:43):
Make it a caricature. This is good pick one up
at pastime Sports soon. News Hogglander.
Speaker 1 (01:09:49):
We showed the quote earlier today that shattered the world.
Speaker 3 (01:09:53):
Showed it again.
Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
You want to get here, No don't. This is a
news hoglander. Okay, I mean fuse like every year I
have a new coach. He said, that was the quote
that stop it demanded stop it.
Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
You had to do some work. You were a bit
cranky because you showed up late to work because of traffic,
and you complained about it. And you're still complaining.
Speaker 4 (01:10:13):
You were two hours late today and you've got time
for this.
Speaker 1 (01:10:16):
Nils Hoglander signed puck in the middle, Trevor Lindon rookie
cards signed on the left, and on the far left
the Seahawks pocket sized helmet. You can collect all the
NFL teams in the pocket sized helmet.
Speaker 3 (01:10:30):
They're cool. Yeah, little helmet I had as a kid.
I had an NFL and a CFL helmet. Tree. That's
type you can put just fantastic.
Speaker 1 (01:10:40):
Yeah, so past time. I'm trying to find another one.
Here there's a look at there's a Dolphins one. See,
we got they got them all. Those are cool. Those
are cool.
Speaker 3 (01:10:48):
Did you see the Dolphins rivalry uniforms? They're black. Yeah,
that might be the only ones that look good. Arizona's
gonna wear theirs on Thursday against the Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (01:10:57):
That's why I put the helmet up there, because the
Seahawks boom tomorrow night. You didn't change, Trevor Lindon, No,
I changed everything else though. I like that In Linden
car At time.
Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
You know why. I like that.
Speaker 5 (01:11:06):
He's also got on Neil's hog Lander.
Speaker 1 (01:11:10):
To put up with the quote, you could have got a.
Speaker 3 (01:11:12):
Hold you don't listen to me.
Speaker 1 (01:11:14):
That's the puck.
Speaker 4 (01:11:16):
The puck Islander, Okay, but you gotta put the card up.
Speaker 5 (01:11:18):
I don't have a I don't think I have a
card for hold Lander. Nobody loves Trevor Linden more than
I do. But that's back to back days with Linda.
Speaker 1 (01:11:25):
By the way, somebody telling us within ten minutes from
your Trevor Linden Club sixteen is a Mary brown Chicken. Yeah,
I I I know. I'm not a Mary Brown guy.
Heard Mary Brown's. It's a KFC guy depends on for
your weekend, for your I didn't even know.
Speaker 4 (01:11:41):
This is the first I've heard of Mary Brown's.
Speaker 5 (01:11:43):
I don't even know. I didn't and didn't know it exists.
I do know chicken, that churry church, just chicken. There's
not many of those around anymore. There's not many of those, Yeah,
but there's not many. There was one in Fleetwood. I
believe it's gone now. There's not many.
Speaker 3 (01:11:57):
Got of Korean chicken places?
Speaker 1 (01:11:59):
Yeah, excellent, Yeah, what's the one? There's something that was
won by us. That's the coleslaw at KFC. Oh no,
but again they've changed it now it's not it's not
green once. No, it's more like home stocks used to be. H.
Speaker 4 (01:12:13):
You and your coal saw. We went out to luncheon
this summer and this guy.
Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
Who's got the best white spot, Who's got the best
coal slot? White spot? White spot?
Speaker 4 (01:12:23):
Guy like this guy got three plates of cool saw
right in front of us.
Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
How about you.
Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
You ordered the world's smallest casus salad.

Whistler Golf Club, where our extensive golf course reno is
now underway for week. The updates follow us on Instagram
at Whistler Golf very quickly. Jimmy Kimmel returned to the
ABC airwaves yesterday, and I don't want to get into
how he came across this or late night talk shows
(01:14:15):
these days are just horrible. They're not as good as
they used to be. It's everything's so political. It's awful
if you ask me, but I will see this. I
am happy, not necessarily for Jimmy Kimmel. He's going to
be okay, but we work in this industry, in the
broadcast industry. I'm happy for all the people behind the scenes.
They get to go back to work. What a great point,
(01:14:35):
Hulk Hogan. This is a little dated, but I wanted
to get this in. Hulk Hogan, the late hul Cogan
among the celebrities left out of the Emmys in memoriam
broadcast was that a couple Sundays ago and his ex
wife suspects it wasn't a simple error. Linda Ogan believes
hulk snub was political due to his right wing beliefs.
Hulk wasn't the only late celebrity who has snubbed Horror
(01:14:59):
Icon Tony Todd and Sopranos star Jerry Adler Hush Hush,
We're also passed over him, and Emmy's Rapp pointed out
all of them, including Hulk, included in a longer online
version of the segment. That's just a scroll of names.
Lindett reminds us Hulk was a ratings king and icon
(01:15:19):
on the small screen, and whether it was on network
or pay per view, a legions of fans always tuned
in to see Hulk. He was important to the television industry.
And yet he gets just and he gets snubbed, and
we I think we talk about this every year in
memoriam segments. I don't know you. I think you're you
(01:15:40):
set yourself up for failure. You're gonna you're gonna forget
somebody you can't win, You're gonna snub somebody, and you're
gonna get criticized. I'm not so sure we can't anymore.
Speaker 5 (01:15:49):
If you put him in, there's gonna people bitching about it,
a bitch about it, if you put him out about.
Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
It, and if it's a political thing, that's not right.
Speaker 5 (01:15:56):
Hul Cogan was a massive, massive star, not only Wesley
in worldwide everything Doe he he you know, absolutely in
the eighties we were all huge Hall Coogan fans and
a decade he had longevity and he was a big name.
Speaker 3 (01:16:12):
Whether you had his laws, no one's perfect.
Speaker 1 (01:16:15):
People do, but man, he was a big star nation
worldwide birthdays.
Speaker 3 (01:16:21):
It's September twenty fourth.
Speaker 5 (01:16:22):
September twenty fourth five birthdays Ryan. Let's go get the
music going. Let's go Little Ricky's Car Washer sponsor that right, Oh,

Speaker 5 (01:16:37):
Let's go Burnaby Boy and defenseman went fifth over on
the NHL draft in two thousand and seven, played for
the Calgary Hippen.
Speaker 3 (01:16:46):
Who do you go to? I'm telling you he played
for Calgary. I'm not enough to tell you that. Yeah,
that's it.
Speaker 5 (01:16:52):
Carl Allisner. Good Burnaby, Burnaby kidd, he knows Burnaby. I
just said, Burnaby boy. That's why you got it. He
was a great Canada's top defenseman in two thousand and eight.
Speaker 1 (01:17:03):
He was really good.
Speaker 3 (01:17:04):
World Junior.
Speaker 4 (01:17:05):
Is all a great guy? Carl elsnerd local kid, All right,
here we go.
Speaker 5 (01:17:09):

but you can't break it up like that. One of
you guys gotta say Stephanie McMahon. You said Stephanie and
you said McMahon.
Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
That's called teamwork.
Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
Okay, whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:17:40):
So the Caducs are looking for she married Triple H.
Everybody knows about that. You said she was involved with
someone else. What did you say, Paul is.
Speaker 1 (01:17:51):
Known as Triple Ah.
Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
Yeah, okay, okay.
Speaker 1 (01:17:53):
Ak the commissioner or something.
Speaker 3 (01:17:57):
He's part owner.
Speaker 4 (01:17:58):
Now that's right. Triple H was great, he was good.
Speaker 1 (01:18:01):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:18:02):
This player won. You better get this, you better.
Speaker 3 (01:18:04):
This is you.
Speaker 5 (01:18:05):
This player won four Super Bowl Championships with the Steeters
his entire career, thirteen years with the Steeters.
Speaker 1 (01:18:11):
Fourth overall Terry Bradchaw No.
Speaker 5 (01:18:13):
Fourth overall pick in nineteen sixty nine by the Steeters,
huge part of that defensive line, the Irons Green Steele Curtain,
Joe Green, Joe Mean Joe Green, Mean Joe Green.
Speaker 3 (01:18:23):
You got it.
Speaker 4 (01:18:24):
You remember the Pepsi commercial Coke Coke yea coke coke,
Hey k C.
Speaker 3 (01:18:28):
Literally you don't. That was one of the great great
commercials in the great commercials of the seventies. Athlete endorsement
that was so good.
Speaker 1 (01:18:38):
Nineteen seventy nine.
Speaker 3 (01:18:39):
Sure the kid is Jersey. You don't even remember this?
Speaker 4 (01:18:41):
Hey, kids catch and he threw him the coke?
Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
Yeah? No, wait, any throw them the jersey.
Speaker 1 (01:18:45):
No, he threw the coke.
Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
Anyways. Look, let's go keep going here. Hey, it's the seventies.
What kind of coke we're talking about? What's talk?
Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (01:18:52):
Listen.
Speaker 5 (01:18:53):
Born in Branford, Ontario, this comedian joined Saturday Night. I
know this in nineteen eighty six, eight eight years Ye,
Phil Hartman, because I always remember.
Speaker 3 (01:19:01):
Phil Hartman was born in the same town as hometown
as Gretzky.
Speaker 5 (01:19:05):
And his impressions of Bill Clinton, Frank Sinatra, Ronald Reagan,
Ed McMahon they were so good. All Right, you guys
aren't gonna get this. It's gonna be tough. Put your
thinking cap. One baseball Cuban American former first baseman leftfielder
twenty years in Major League Baseball Rangers Orioles Cubs, four
time All Star became part of the exclusive list of
(01:19:25):
players to record at least five hundred home runs and
three thousand hits.
Speaker 1 (01:19:29):
What team I just told her? He played for the
Rangers Orioles in the Cubs, A day after his three.
Speaker 5 (01:19:36):
Thousandth career hit suspended for taking anabolic steroids.
Speaker 3 (01:19:40):
Oh shit, shoot yeah, that was close.
Speaker 4 (01:19:43):
Initials r P, Oh my god, Palmaro.
Speaker 3 (01:19:49):
Hey you did it again.
Speaker 4 (01:19:50):
There you go, you said, Raphael, you said pal Merrow.
What's wrong with that?
Speaker 3 (01:19:54):
You guys hit down when I was doing it.
Speaker 4 (01:19:56):
You don't get marks for getting half of it right down?
Speaker 5 (01:20:00):
Dang Derek Slack and Alfy said his fifty to fifty slash. Anyways,
Rafael pal Merrow mostly I remember him from his Oriel days.
Speaker 4 (01:20:07):
Donny, Yeah, yeah, that's it.
Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
He was a kid and they me and Joe Green.
Speaker 4 (01:20:14):
Where is that?
Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
We got to get that commercial?
Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
I show the commercial. It's the great commercial.
Speaker 3 (01:20:18):
Meanwhile, is it just me coming up? The late Ray
Charles oh Rick born ninety five years ago? Tuesday is
going to play us out August sixty one, a number
one hit, No no, no, no, not yet, not yet from
August of sixty one, and number one hit that earned
Ray a Grammy. This is Ray Charles hit the Road,
(01:20:38):
Jack on Check where the greats hang out on a Beast?
Are you gonna play now on a BC Wednesday morning?
Speaker 1 (01:20:44):
Is it is me?
Speaker 3 (01:20:45):
Next hit? Jack?
Speaker 12 (01:20:49):
Don't you come back on.
Speaker 4 (01:20:53):
Jack, and don't you come back?
Speaker 12 (01:20:55):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:21:03):
Is it just me?
Speaker 3 (01:21:04):
Rick? Far away?
Speaker 1 (01:21:05):
All right? Here we go?
Speaker 4 (01:21:07):
Uh, strongly disagree, Ryan.
Speaker 5 (01:21:09):
Real Canadians cheer for Canadian teams, regardless if it's Toronto
or not. By the way, cheer for the Blue Jays
and eat armstrong cheese. Dwight, I think that's dhite and
chiliwac one of our best viewers. Good guy shot right
there at Ryan for cheering for an American team over
a Canadian team.
Speaker 3 (01:21:27):
Trevor and Ladner, Is it just me? Rick? What coke
were you consuming? The kid gives Joe the coke and
then Joe tosses him his jersey? So is the kid
gives kid Joe the cokeh a cola and Joe tossing
the kid the jersey? Yeah, Umber seventy five. I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 1 (01:21:44):
Absolutely, it was here. It's ready here there you go?
Speaker 12 (01:21:47):
Mm want my coke? No? No, you can have it? Okay, thanks?
Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
I say, wow, what happened to commercial jingles?
Speaker 3 (01:22:12):
Eh? Huh?
Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
There's no more jingles anymore with commercials.
Speaker 3 (01:22:16):
That's your takeaway from that?
Speaker 1 (01:22:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:22:17):
Yeah, because there's a good crying watching part of that's
the song yeah, I guess so.
Speaker 1 (01:22:23):
Now there's no more catchy jingles. It's all just sarcastic
humor in every commercial.
Speaker 3 (01:22:28):
I think there is catchy jingle still on radio. There
is radio.
Speaker 1 (01:22:31):
Yeah, but that's a TV act.
Speaker 5 (01:22:32):
I missed those coke bottles, remember, Donny back, you still
get they still got the coke bottles still got Oh
they were great, but just just the thought.
Speaker 3 (01:22:41):
Yeah. Me and Chill Green Throwzy as Jersey were nice.
Good lesson for the kids.
Speaker 5 (01:22:47):
Colin Colemox, is there a better chance to Carlson making
the team over Ratu? I think so, and Ratu's in
tough uh Bluego should be the third line center. Rat
you should be the fourth line center unless they make
a trade or they make a signing Donny another centerment
could be possibly coming in.
Speaker 3 (01:23:03):
You've been talking about that for months. Yeah, absolutely, Sheldon.
Is it just me? But we need to know what
or who is Rick's favorite nut bar? Snickers? Oh, Henry
Payday nut bars.
Speaker 4 (01:23:16):
He's talking about the nutbars on Twitter, isn't he?
Speaker 1 (01:23:19):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
I think in this case it's an I eliminated sum here,
but it's actual chocolate bars with nuts in them.
Speaker 1 (01:23:24):
Snickers was good.
Speaker 3 (01:23:26):
He mentions that.
Speaker 1 (01:23:28):
Can I just get a quick knock updated line up tonight.
You guys talked about Demco moments ago, Adam foot Telepoltias
telling the media and assembled out in abmosphere included Jeff Patterson.
Demko will start tonight. Canucks say they'll play it by
ear based on workload, whether he goes the distance tonight,
play it by a pomplotis so he may or may
(01:23:52):
not go the distance as a joke, right, Yeah, they'll
see how long. I mean, if it's if the game
gets out of end or something like. What's the point?
Adam's been very clear about. He also keeps referencing the
Olympic year. Have you noticed that with Adam? Yes, yeah,
because the condensing.
Speaker 3 (01:24:07):
He isn't the only one the coaches around the nation
popularly well. He mentioned with Garland Garland not taking part
in practice yesterday. He said yesterday that if they were
playing their home opener, he would play. Yeah, but he's
keeping in mind the condensed schedule and how Yeah, February
they're going to have some time off the players who
aren't playing at the Olympics. But everything else is pretty tight,
(01:24:28):
pretty tightly packed.
Speaker 5 (01:24:29):
Canucks are paying nine point five million for two goalies.
It's the most they've paid in a long time for goalie.
They never paid money for the backup. Lancan is getting
a ton of money. Play the heck out of him.
You got confidence, you had a good There's no reason
to overplay Demco this year.
Speaker 3 (01:24:43):
Zero Dwight, Is it just me? Another reason I've said
from the start getting rid of the door Off was
a big mistake. Cool move, love the Bruins jersey. The
cool move Dwight's talking about is the celebration, which is
kind of a non celebration, and he got a lot
of attention. No, it's the door off.
Speaker 5 (01:25:02):
The Canucks made a big mistake letting that guy go.
He was a big part of it. He woke the
building up, he woke and he was important in the
dressing room. Done, he was important in the dressing room.
And Rick Talckett said when he said when Zadoroff left,
it hurt us. Typical Rick supporting the Colonel an American
Company's Mary Browns the Canadian company cal Langley. First of all,
(01:25:24):
I've never been to Mary Browns. I didn't know it
was Canadian. Second of all, I've been eating at KFC
since the late nineteen seventies. Done, it's hard to change habits.
Speaker 3 (01:25:32):
Tom and Victoria. Well, here's not much choice out there,
Tom and Victoria. Is it just me Henderson? The only
team that matters around here is lame. All you have
to do is look at Jay's Weekend in Seattle. Jay's
are Canada's team. They have a caravan across Canada every winter.
Speaker 1 (01:25:48):
Do they still have that?
Speaker 3 (01:25:50):
But in nineteen seventy seven I decided to cheer for
both expansion cousins, Go Jays, Go Ams. So Tom is
the line?
Speaker 1 (01:26:01):
Tom is a Blue Jays guy.
Speaker 3 (01:26:02):
Well you know he said the MS guy too.
Speaker 5 (01:26:03):
So so when so when the Murders are playing the
Blue Jays and Seattle, what happens thousands of Canadians.
Speaker 3 (01:26:11):
You know who those Canadians are? No, they're from Saskatchewan
or their people in Vancouver.
Speaker 1 (01:26:17):
Canada's team.
Speaker 3 (01:26:18):
You're making people from Vancouver who moved to Vancouver from Toronto.
Speaker 5 (01:26:22):
You're giving me the evidence of Canada's team. And you
guys should be hopping on board on Canada's team. Because
people from Alberta, Saskatchewan go to Seattle to watch emergency.
Speaker 4 (01:26:30):
You're proving my point.
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
Canada's team can you with a straight face, sell me
on the fact that if for some miracle the MLB
team was based here Toronto phobes, it's irrelevance.
Speaker 3 (01:26:49):
It does well. You know what bothers me is that
from the moment the Toronto got a Major League Baseball team,
everybody ignored the Expos. Yes, that is true, and I
like them a whole lot.
Speaker 1 (01:27:02):
There, you're more like, I've been watching the Blue Jays
since they're at the CNE and you know where that is.
So you don't agree with me, then no, I'm just
telling you it's Canada teams. Get on board instead of
support the American team. Ryan, it makes no sense.
Speaker 3 (01:27:16):
How's that trip to La.
Speaker 1 (01:27:18):
The one thing people will reference to is the Canadians partnership?
Speaker 4 (01:27:21):
Will I will Well, you.
Speaker 1 (01:27:23):
Would concede that the future stars, the future stars of
the Blue Jays are at Nat Bailey staying with you
in the sales department there.
Speaker 4 (01:27:31):
Hey, that the Blue Jays farm teams right there.
Speaker 1 (01:27:35):
Okay, one of them. So you can't get on.
Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
Board, we get it, but that you're pro American and
we get it. I'm not we get We gotta take
a break here and we'll wrap up the show. Next
to the poll question, Donny Dolling the team on check
looking for one of Victoria's most iconic stays.
Speaker 5 (01:27:51):

Speaker 1 (01:28:51):
Pup poll question.
Speaker 5 (01:28:52):
Which are these abosburd Playoffs stars most likely to stick
with the Canucks this year?
Speaker 1 (01:28:56):
Ban Sasana, Carlson.
Speaker 3 (01:28:57):
Look at this.
Speaker 5 (01:28:57):
Carlson leading by quite a link. The March and fifty
two votes. Already did you have?
Speaker 3 (01:29:04):
By the way, those three players Abbotsford Stars playoff stars
from last year. We'll be playing as a line tonight
from what we understand tonight in Abbotsford Canocks versus the
Calgary Flames. Rick, do you have pictures? Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:29:19):
Yeah, we do, right, Hello, where are we going?
Speaker 3 (01:29:25):
I don't know? This is so smart.
Speaker 1 (01:29:27):
I put it in that prep peach. Oh right, yeah, okay,
all right, I need a moment to loke.
Speaker 3 (01:29:33):
We talked about this during a well oiled machine.
Speaker 1 (01:29:36):
Here, westcot Franklin, right, Wilson, West Coast Franklin Wilson.
Speaker 5 (01:29:41):
I mean Wilson is his first Wilson was the volleyball
