Waikiki Beach. It was great.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Hawaii's on my list, my bucket list. I've never been
to Hawaii. I would like to get to Hawaii. It's all.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
I love it there.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Okay, you said this weekend massive weekend in the sporting
world around the Lower Mainland. Tonight you have the Canucks
taking on the Crack and preseason game number three seven
o'clock puck drop for the Vancouver Canucks. We'll talk more
about them in a second. You just mentioned Rick. The
Lions are at home to get some revenge on the
Toronto Argonauts. Of course, the Lions coughed one up in

(02:44):
too at the end of August. They lost fifty two
to thirty four in that game, so the Lions are
looking to get back on track. And by the way,
seconds ago, yeah, I just got an email from the
BC Lions. They are set to make a major announcement
following the first quarter a Friday's game, oh my against
the Argos. So I'm not exactly sure. You can work

(03:05):
the phone, see if you can get into nuggets about
what that would be.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
The BC lines major announcement following the first quarter.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Yeah. So usually when it's an in game announcement like that,
I wonder if it's something related to honoring of a player,
h retiring a player's jersey. Yeah, number something like that.
I wonder if that's what we're looking at tonight. We'll
see if we get it. Can get any more details
on that, but that's just what I read into it.

(03:32):
Usually when it's an in game announcement like that, that's
something that they're that they would be looking at. Also
happening tonight around the Lower Mainland, the Giants are at
home at the Leec to take on Victoria. It's a
home at home as Victoria is here tonight and tomorrow
night the Giants are over The Giants are over there there,
it is right there.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Giants not happy with their home opener last week against
and they lost five to one. Yeah happy net dominic
Kell either GM. You can't be happy with that. The
Cod as well. The Giants not a good effort, but
they're gonna bounce back tonight against Victoria. We should also
mention Penticton. You just mentioned them. Their home opener is tonight,
so the v's first line to the WHL.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
They are at home tonight they take on colowna seven
o five pm puck drop for Penticton tonight's they take
on Coloonna. Tomorrow white Caps in Seattle to take on
the Sounders. They're looking for an eighth straight Cascadia Cup
victory if they win or draw against the Sounders tomorrow

(04:33):
in Seattle. And also the Women's Rugby World Cup tomorrow
morning eight am Canada versus England over in England. The
Canadian women looking to capture a Women's Rugby World Cup title,
So good luck to them.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
This is one of those weekends again, like last weekend September.
I loved September for sports. You just sit on the couch,
you know, get your blanket, pillows and just watch watch
sports all weekend. It's beautiful.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Yeah, yeah, I agree. Now I have a little one
though that gets in the way of a lot of that.
But anyway, here we are. Okay, I got an announcement the
Canucks just made and I know I just saw this
as well. See this is what happened. We get on
the air at ten am and then the business starts happening.
Everybody goes, Donnie Dolay's on the air, let's get some
things rolling.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
And we had Tyson Berry, I know, and what did
he say? Donnie said, Hey, what are you gonna do
now because you're retired, I might dabble into media. The
Vancouver Canucks are excited to welcome fourteen year NHL vet
Tyson Berry to the Canucks regional home broadcast on Sportsnet
for this upcoming season. Wow.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Yeah, so the good good good for Tyson. That's awesome.
He was a great guest with us yesterday. If you
missed missed our interview with Tyson, it's up on our
YouTube channel and clips are on our Twitter as well.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
So right out our retirement into the Canucks broadcast booth,
Tyson Berry, who we had on yesterday, and he kind
of gave us a tip. He kind of tipped us
off that he wants to get into the media. He
was hiding. It must have killed them. I can't hold
secrets like Tyson.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
I can't.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
I had I know. I'm really bad at holding secrets.
I'm really bad. My wife says to me, she goes,
you're the worst. So she doesn't give me any info anymore.
She says, you're the worst. This guy sat on it
all day yesterday. He was on our show. And I'm
telling you right now, Vancouver Canucks, Tyson Berry, I like this.
I like this a lot.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, good for him. That's awesome for Tyson. Of course,
local boy going to be part of the Canucks broadcast,
so there you go. Good good for Tyson, Tyson Berry
And like I say, very entertaining with us yesterday. If
you missed him talking to us about having a few
cocktails before a playoff, Yes, I check out that clip
clips on our Twitter account as well. Okay, the Canucks,

(06:44):
let's get more into it. Third preseason game tonight as
they take on the Seattle Kraken for the second time
in the preseason. That is the Canucks. Yesterday, just before
we look at today, yesterday, Connor Garland was back on
the ice for practice after taking a puck to the
face right rick. He was dealing with something in the
facial area, and Adam Foote said earlier in the week,

(07:07):
if it was the home opener, he would have been playing.
But they, you know, they just what's the point, so
they gave him some time off, But he was back
at practice yesterday. The big story though out of Wednesday's
preseason game was the Nils Hoglander injury, and we were
still waiting word on that, Scott Young said, assistant coach
Scott Young of the Bank of Ocduct said yesterday after
practice that yesterday was going to go through more additional testing,

(07:30):
so they were waiting to get results back on that.
I don't like hearing additional testing on top of already testing,
so we'll see how that goes. Do you have any updates?
Rick on News checked in on Hoglander last night. There's
still evaluating, waiting to see what it is. They may
or may not have more answers today. We'll wait and see.
He might have to see some more doctors and stuff

(07:51):
like that. It's taken a little bit of time, but
Hoglander basically still evaluating. I can't say they're gonna have
news on him today, but they're still working on it.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
They're still working on it.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
So the Canucks are on the ice for morning skate
right now.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Nina.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Do you have those lines? I emailed myself the lines,
so if you've got them there, they were posted moments
ago by our good pal Jeff Patterson of Canucks Army
and rink Wide. It's very similar to the same practice
lines we saw yesterday. So if you're going to the
game tonight, you are seeing their best lineup they've iced.
In my opinion for the preseason. So far, your top

(08:28):
line is Debrusque, Les Petterson, EP forty the kids call
them so for the first time, we're gonna see EP
forty in a preseason game. And Brock Besser. Your second line,
Evander Kaine, Braiden Coots. Lots of ink being spilled and
talked about with Braiden Coots. Oh, so far. Jonathan Mcaramaki

(08:48):
on right wing, krats Off, Blueger Sherwood. Your third line,
fourth line are all Rickson, Ratu and Klemovich.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Rick's you know, all these guys knowing Hogland or might
be out for a while, right, There's a great opportunity
here for a lot of these guys. Kratsops got to
pick it up. Otherwise he's gonna find himself an absper
starting on opening night. Yes, show us glimpses of why
you went ninth overall to the New York Rangers a
few years ago. Klemovich, he's been good so far. I
can't say anything about him. Keep an eye on the

(09:18):
DPD and Will Lander pairing tonight. Two guys fighting for
that third pair, right shot. Watch that Lancanon first action. Congratulations, Yes, Kevin,
him and his wife, they was it two days ago.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Yeah, on Tuesday, they had a baby, so he was
away from practice yesterday because of that. But he's back
on the ice today. And Jeff also in another tweet,
said that he's going through the starter drills. So it
looks as though Kevin Lancanin is going to be your
starting goaltender tonight and first action for him in the preseason.
But yeah, I agree with you Rick, with Kratzov, I mean,
show us something, like you got an opportunity.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
The Canucks don't have a great forward group. A lot
of these guys.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Have an opportunity to get in there, grab an opening
night role. But show something, and especially when it's your
second go round with this franchise. I mean, they brought
you back to try this again.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
And then he went to Russia, right, He had a
good year last year in the KHL, so he comes
back now, he's coming back and he's a heavy ticket
in Navisburg. His salary is four point fifty four hundred
and fifty thousand dollars, which is a big number in
the American League because most of those guys are making
eighty ninety and you know, applying their trade and working
hard to all those guys. But he's going to be
the highest paid guy down in Abasburg. But let's see

(10:34):
if he can provide some more offensive spark. That's what
the Canucks need from him, and let's see if he
can do it.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Tonight yesterday again, assistant coach Scott Young saying they weren't
entirely sure yet when their initial cuts were going to
be made, if it was going to.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
Be Sunday or Ynday.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Yeah, they didn't know if they were going to go
with after the fourth preseason game or after tonight's preseason game.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
And I mean one thing about Coots, he is making
it he lives another day. If he has a good
game today, he's not going anywhere. He's eighteen years old.
Seattle Thunderbirds are waiting for him. But he's making it hard.
That's all you want, well, I mean making it hard
for the Canucks to cut him. That's all you want
from young kids, and just make it hard. He's doing that.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
And look at the spot he's in here, Rick, I
mean he's with Evander Kane and Jonathan Karamaki. I mean
he again, you've brought up where they've placed Wilander. They've
really tried to showcase him, I think as well. But
you know this, they're giving him a golden opportunity here,
Braiden Coots, and it's hard to be we're still in
this spot. Happened.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
They haven't given it to him.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
He's he's earned it. You're right, you're right, you're right.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
You only get where he's at if you earn it.
He didn't get that because he was playing crappy. Yeah
he earned it. Yeah, so good on him.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Uh. Speaking of Braiden Kots, We've got a clip of
him yesterday after practice. He was just asked what he
would have been the biggest takeaways so far through training
camp and the preseason.

Speaker 6 (11:58):
Just so hard it is, I mean everybody, so you
have to be so dedicated to be successful here and
how fast it is, you know, how demanding it is.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
But it's been good.

Speaker 6 (12:06):
Nothing too crazy or anything for me so far. But yeah,
just trying to learn each day.

Speaker 7 (12:11):
Did you have fools going into camp or was it
just I'm gonna play as well as I can and
show as well as I can.

Speaker 6 (12:17):
I think my goal is just you know, show people
that you know I can maybe play here, you know,
make you know, the coaches be like oh, maybe he's
got a shot, you know, make a little noise there.
I mean, anytime I go to the camp, I'm trying
to make the team. That's just who I am, A
competitive person, like just going there for an experience.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
But yeah, and that's all you can ask for. Make
the coaches think.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
He's had an excellent cap so far. App so the
future is bright with this kid up the middle of
the ice ride Yep, you know, the Kaducks are not
strong up the middle of the ice. But for the future,
and if Peterson returns to his old form, they're gonna
be set up the middle of the ice.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Well, and you've set you guarantee he's the next Bowl
Orbat as well.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Stop it. I had a pro scout tell me he
compares he compares him to Bull Horbat. Then I had
a couple of more scouts tell me, you know what,
that's a fair comparable. Bull Horbat was mature, He got
the trust of the connuction. Look at the maturity of
yeah kid, you know, and he's got the trust. And
then you're cool, calm, look at how cool? Call me
his bull was the exact same way. I don't have
a problem with that. Bull horback comparison.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Okay, big show coming up next hour. The top of
next hour, we're gonna be joined by Ladner's very own
James Paxton to talk a little baseball. Hard to believe.
We're heading into the final weekend series around the MLB Jas.
Your Blue Jays gotta win last night sex finely six
to one Adulton Bar Show with the Grand Slam, so

(13:45):
the Jays picked up a victory. Unfortunately for the J's,
the Yankees also won as well, so it just kept everything.
Look who they're playing. Who are the Yankees playing? Yep,
no doubt, absolutely so. The Yankees have the Orioles in
their final series of the year. The Jays have the
Rays in Toronto, Mariners sweeping the Rockies last night. They've
clinched pretty much everything they can clinch at this point,

(14:06):
including a first round by so their playoff won't begin
until the Alds, which is next Saturday, October the fourth.
The Mariners close out their season against the Dodgers at
home this weekend, so there's a lot going on. We're
gonna talk with James Paxton coming up at eleven o'clock.
A reminder, by the way, DTMZ is it just me
as well, get your text. Your email's in for Is
it just me now? Sixh four to two hundred ninety

(14:28):

We'll talk more about the Vancouver Canucks, more about what's
happening this weekend with the white Caps and the Lions,
including this announcement the Lions if you missed it moments ago.
Lions after the first quarter are going to make an announcement,
a major announcement, they say. Some people speculating maybe it's
to do with the World Cup.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
Nick give credit. Yeah, don't say people.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
You're right.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
You're at North Burnaby, texted us in the baseide Oceanfront
Resort text line, U, it's gonna be about their plans
for when the World Cup is in town. Where are
the Lion's gonna play when the World Cup?

Speaker 3 (15:05):
Yeah? And if you missed it, I believe like a
month ago now the Argos announced their plans they're gonna play.
It's I don't like it what the Argoes are doing.
They're playing home game and Winnipeg and Saskatchewan. It doesn't
work everything I've been told. The Lions are gonna be
in BC for some of their games.

Speaker 4 (15:23):
During that Victoria.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
Yeah, I think there. I don't think it's overly far
fetched to assume that they're gonna be in those two places,
along with bye weeks and other things that they'll have
to do during that six week I believe it's about
six weeks they're gonna have to be out of BC
place around the World Cup. So more ahead again, big
busy day, busy weekend round the Vancouver sports scene. Thanks
for joining us today. This is Donnie and Dolly the Team.

(15:47):
Watch Oh, Thomas Drance. I didn't even promote him well,
you know, because we've had these technical issues, so I
don't know. Maybe Drance is gonna be here next hopefully

you get on that this weekend. One guy, he when
you talk about schooling, you bring it up all the time. Rick,
you believe he went to Harvard. That's how you know.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
I I believe he thinks he went to Harvard. He
thinks he's really really smart.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
It's our good pal from the Athletic and Sports at
six fifty Thomas Grants. Thomas, how are you, sir?

Speaker 9 (17:31):
Doing well? I went to the Harvard of the North
U of T Grad.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
School, Toronto. See he's one of your buddy.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
You're a Toronto guy.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
Oh, that explains everything that explains everything.

Speaker 9 (17:44):
I grew up in Vancouver, just went to get educated
out there.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
Okay, So, Thomas, where we've been debating about this.

Speaker 9 (17:50):
Came in walking through the cold in the northern in
British Columbia minus forty.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
I have walked in minus forty Thomas. I my as
froze the eyebrows. I've been through it all. I've been
through it all.

Speaker 9 (18:05):
The snot in your nose, you know, when it gets
nice and crunchy.

Speaker 4 (18:10):
Donnie was in Dawson Creek and I was in Fort
Saint John. We paid our dues, you know.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
He says all this, though, Thomas, when it's five degrees
in raining, he complains, like nobody's busy because I.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
Got a dog. I gotta walk the dog. That changes everything.
It changes everything.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Since we talked to you last Friday, Thomas, the Canucks
have played two preseason games. They got their third on
tap tonight. Before we look ahead to tonight, what have
you seen through the first two preseason games for the
Vancouver Canucks.

Speaker 9 (18:42):
Yeah, I mean from on a team level, you know,
not a ton I mean, I think we've seen some
more aggression in terms of the defensive zone. I think
we've seen that this team wants to play a little
bit faster, and I think they've executed it for the
most part. But you know that these lineups are not
close to NHL caliber and they're deeply unequal on a

(19:03):
night to night basis, right. I mean, we've seen the
Canucks play one game with a deeply overmatched lineup against
the Seattle Kraken, and then we saw the Calgary Flames bring,
you know, a pretty undermanned lineup to Habitsford, and I
suspect we're gonna see it. In fact, I know we're
gonna see an undermanned Seattle Kraken line up tonight, right,
I mean, we're we're not gonna see Everly, We're not

(19:24):
gonna see Veneers. We're not gonna see Shane Wright tonight
at Rogers a Rena. So you know, I'm curious to
see how a v Lander and Elias Patterson defense pair,
for example, performs for Vancouver this evening. But also, we're
gonna have to take everything with a grain of salt
during this first week of preseason, because you know, there's

(19:45):
still a lot to sort out, and a lot of
these situations aren't like it's still important obviously, these are
still important tests for young players, for roster hopefuls at
the fringes of an NHL roster, trying to make a
case for themselves, trying to make an impression. It's still important,
but it's not the sort of test that is going
to give us the answers we need to have in

(20:07):
terms of having a better sense of, you know, who's ready,
who's ready to really like handle the pressure that you're
going to feel once it's you know, NHL star is
bearing down on you on the por check. So you know,
I think we've learned a little bit about the Canucks
in the first two preseason games, but not a ton yet,
And realistically, I don't know that we'll learn much more tonight,

(20:28):
and probably not on Sunday. Right it's really those last
two next week that I'm looking at once. Once it
becomes October, that's when we'll start to wait it a
little bit more heavily.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Speaking of finding out who's ready, Thomas Wednesday night news
Hoglander goes down with his injury. We don't know the
extent of it yet. Who which door opens the great
the widest for which player on this Knucks roster with
that Hoglander injury.

Speaker 9 (20:54):
It's a good question, right, because I mean the way
that we were looking at this Canucks lineup, I think
we have a sense from the way that they've been
installed together since the start of training camp that Besser,
Debresk and Peterson is going to get sort of the
first chance to be Vancouver's top line. I think we
believe strongly that it'll be Evander Kain and Philipedal and

(21:14):
X on the second line. Right, might be Connor Garland,
but maybe they want Garland to drive a third line,
so there's a significant opportunity there. I would have thought
Neils Hoglander would be a strong contender, maybe even a favorite,
to win that second line spot, so you know, and
then there's the knock on effect where if that spot's
open and now Nils Hoglander's spot is sort of a

(21:35):
third line left wing might also be vacant. Well, now
there's multiple top nine wing spots available for whether it's Kratsov,
whether it's Baines, whether it's Linus Carlson, Dree O'Connor. You
know that there's now a scramble and real opportunity, especially
in the event that this Nils Hoglander injury is going

(21:55):
to prevent him from being ready Night one of the
regular season, which again we don't know, but you know,
spotted reportedly leaving the rake in a walking boot that
would suggest that. Yeah, I mean, you're probably looking at
least a week to week sort of situation which could
open up a night one or a game one vacancy
two in fact in the middle sixth. So yeah, very

(22:18):
fascinating to see how this plays out here. I think
Kratsov is sort of an interesting guy. We're going to
see him get a pretty significant look if we read
into how they practiced yesterday and extrapolated in terms of
what we expect tonight. He's a player who looks like
he might get a long look here. Obviously we know
the size, we know the skating ability looks improved based

(22:40):
off of his two years in the KHL, and we
know that there was interest in him around the league.
That the Canucks decided to take the first look at
this player but had options, There was interest in him
around the league. So the fact that they didn't monetize
the asset right, didn't take the mid round pick or
what have you this summer, I think it's probably be
pretty telling about what this club thinks that he might

(23:03):
be able to bring, so you know, he'd probably be
one of them names that I'm most intrigued by. Thought.
He had a strong performance in Abbotsford the other night
and looks like he's going to get a look to
try and build on that this evening.

Speaker 4 (23:16):
That third pair of right side, some good young defenseman
battling hard Mancini, Wilander and Pederson. How do you see
that shapen out, Thomas?

Speaker 9 (23:25):
I mean, I think there's a lot of road to run.
But you know, without question, I think Vlanders had, you know,
probably his two best performances that I've ever seen in
his first two preseason games, So that was well timed
for him. I think, you know, at the very least,
he's if he's not at the front of the of
the line, he's definitely pushing for it. And then Mancini
has goals in both of his games. And you know,

(23:47):
this is a player who knows how to make a
training camp, right. This is only his second NHL training camp,
and he made the Rangers out of camp last year.
Rick Like, he played nine games for them in the
month of October, you know, and the only play six
until he was dealt thereafter. But he did make the
team out of camp. You know, he's got the tools
to make an impression and he's made one. And then
Elias Petterson, you know, we only saw him play that

(24:09):
one game in Seattle, and in contrast with the v
Launder like, I thought that was, you know, probably his
most pedestrian performance that I've seen when you when you
sort of consider training camp in the Prospect tournament, and
that sort of came into poor time for him. Again,
I don't think this is going to get sorted out
necessarily tonight or what have you, but assuming that Elias
Petterson's in the lineup, it does sort of feel like

(24:30):
he has to hold serve this evening, like he kind
of needs to have a bounce back performance I think,
to you know, reestablish the edge that he sort of
has as an incumbent, right, a guy who played a
regular shift for this team down the stretch or the
organization is very high on, not just for you know,
the unique physical game that he plays and his overall

(24:50):
sort of authoritative defensive game, but also how he carries himself.
You know, I still would would suspect that he has
like a narrow lead, but I do think he has
to make sure that he maintains it with a strong
performance tonight.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
Always good when a young kid like Braden Kots does
what he does, He's making it hard for the Cannucks
to cut him. He just gets better every day. There's
so much to love about this kid. He's between Lakara
Mackie and Kane Tonight. First look at the hometown fans
of Coots. What have you seen so far from Thomas?

Speaker 9 (25:21):
Yeah? I mean the skating is what jumps off the
ice first, you can't miss it. He's an exceptionally strong
skater and NHL level skater. And the fact that he's
got that type of speed, you know, those types of edges,
like that type of ability technically now, given that you
know there's still a long road for him to follow

(25:41):
in terms of his physical development, I think that's pretty exciting.
Right He's going to be built very differently at twenty one,
twenty two, twenty three than he is right now at eighteen.
And you know that that can make a guy faster,
that can make a guy more powerful. We see it
all the time, and so you know this guy's got
a chance. Like right now, i'd say, you know, he's
probably an above average skater by NHL terms, but with

(26:03):
the potential to be really fast as he matures physically
down the line. So that's an exciting prospect. The other
thing to watch for tonight, you know, he's got a
pretty deceptive release, like he's got a funky release his
wrist shot, especially in close, and his drag shot. It
doesn't look like something you'll see very commonly, and I
mean that in a complimentary way, like he's got sort

(26:25):
of a very deceptive, very odd looking release in a
way that I think goaltenders find it difficult to read
and make some productive So those have been sort of
the two attributes that have left off the ice in
watching him play. I also think he's splashed some playmaking,
which wasn't the strength of his sort of profile coming
out of the WHL. So you like to see you

(26:45):
like to see that. I still think there's going to
be more East West creativity that I'll have to tap into.
One of the reasons why I think he might benefit
actually ultimately from going back and playing huge minutes as
a captain in the WHL this season, just as he
sort of explores what his peak offensive ceiling might be
at a lower level, like I think that'll be good

(27:06):
for him in time. But you know, right now, he's
performed well enough. He's carried himself in a way that
has really impressed the organization behind the scenes. Obviously, I
don't have a first hand glimpse of that, but the
accounts that I'm hearing, you know, are glowing about how
this guy's behaving, about the maturity level, about some of
the professional habits that he has in terms of his

(27:26):
preparation and office work. So you know, you sort of
put that together, and there's a huge opportunity ahead of
him over the next ten days here to continue to
state his case and make these decisions difficult for the Canucks.
There's definitely an open mindedness internally, make no mistake about it.
There's an open mindedness internally. And if he keeps performing
the way he did it camp, the way he did

(27:48):
in his pre season debut over the weekend in Seattle,
he keeps performing to that level, he's going to keep
playing NHL games.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
You just mentioned professional habits, Thomas. Nobody has better professional
habits than you.

Speaker 4 (28:00):
Oh oh wow.

Speaker 9 (28:03):
Well, thank you. You don't have to lie about.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
It exactly My thoughts. Thanks as always, Thomas, appreciate it.
Talk to you next week.

Speaker 9 (28:13):
Cheers, gentlemen, thanks for having me.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
Thomas Drants from the Athletic and Sportsnet six fifty. This
the Brandon Coot story. Rick, I gotta say it's outstanding.
I mean the fact that he's pushing the team, making
them think the possibility of a nine game stint isn't
completely out of the realm. It's very impressive. And you're right,
you know what, He's earned it. He's earned it.

Speaker 4 (28:35):
He's an impressive kid. I talked to someone in Seattle
with the Thunderbirds. First kid on the ice, first kid
at the rink, last kid off the ice, last kid
to leave the rink. He is a hockey hound like it.
Just he's a serious kid. He's got he got, he's
got his goals. He works hard. He's a character kid.
It's a great draft pick. Great draft pick.

Speaker 3 (28:54):
Knuck fans will get a look at him tonight at
Rogers Arena. Coming up next, we need to settle in
a polka and we're gonna discuss that pole question. Oh
my goodness, we're gonna discuss that pole question in the
waddling dog pole question on the show next. It's done,
you know, the team on check looking for.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
All right, And Brandon, who runs a Yeah Dog, I'll
be seeing him tonight. You hang out with him tonight,
will be in the Molson Sweet, that great guys. Man.
I'll tell you these guys that will be in the
Moulson Sweet tonight, it's gonna be calling and Brandon, good guys.
They invited us, so I'll see Brandon tonight.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
I apologize in advance Brandon for any of his behavior
that you're going to experience for the three hours Sweet tonight,
beautiful seats, the good stuff, and we'll be watching lines
kick the argos.

Speaker 4 (30:41):
Ass all right, our waddling dog pole question? Which Canucks
player intrigues you the most tonight? E P Forty, Coots,
Wilander or Caine. No surprise here and we just posted
it a couple of minutes ago. But Coots is the guy,
you know, the Canucks first round pick from the summer.
He's had an exceptional training camp. He is forcing the
Canucks to keep him around. They've sent a bunch of

(31:03):
junior kids to back to junior already. This is a
junior kid they haven't sent back because he keeps impressing
every day and he lives another day if he has
a good game tonight. If he has a good game tonight,
and look who he's with tonight. Kin Lakaramaki. You know,
if he has a good game tonight, he's gonna stick
around more'n he's gonna buy himself another preseason game. The coaches,

(31:25):
the managers, everybody loves this kid, the media. It's a
good story.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Yeah, absolutely, Rick and tonight's game. By the way, if
you're not going to it, it'll be the first one
on TV for people to watch. No streaming tonight, you
can just watch talking about lines game. No, the Canucks game.

Speaker 4 (31:39):
No, the Knucks game. Yeah, yeah, the other day, why
the streamer and the white Caps. Don't get me going
on that. I know, I know, don't get me going
on the white Caps.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
You were texting me the other day.

Speaker 4 (31:48):
Don't get me going. It took me forty minutes. I
couldn't find the game. It's ridiculous. White Caps, fix your
issues before the playoffs or people aren't gonna watch. Bottom line, Yeah,
the results of the pole question one more time.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
Just oh, we'll get to that in a second. We
do have a Nils Hoglander update. Well let's just get
to it now. Yeah, it's actually what Thomas Drantz mentioned
in the last segment. Brett McClain, who is the Canucks
assistant coach is speaking right now, and he tells the
media the Nils Hoglander is officially weak to week, okay,
with a lower body injury. So I'm gonna assume I

(32:23):
don't know if there's no other details than that, but
if he's week to week, I'm guessing that doesn't mean surgery.
So we'll have to see how things progress here with
Nills Hoglander. Okay.

Speaker 4 (32:32):
So that's the best case scenario for the Canucks week
to week. And I'll tell you why, because that tells
me that it wasn't what did we talk about, the
high ankle spray. A high ankle sprain is month to month.
So this looks like maybe just a sprain. It's clearly
not broken, because broken would be you know, yeah, you
would know it a particular timeline. I will say, though, Rick,

(32:55):
in some cases you almost prefer a break because you
know a sprain, high ankle sprain can linger. This is
because if it was a high ankle sprain, it'd be
month to month. Yeah, this is a best case scenario
for the Canucks week to week.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
This was the play, by the way, Wednesday night. This
was Hoglander's final shift of the game on Wednesday night.
Out at Abbotsford. You see him at the bottom of
the screen. He gets tied up along the boards engaged
in a hit there, and then he re engages in
a second hit. So we don't know for sure where
exactly the injury occurred. That first hit was a bit
awkward and the way he kind of stumbled off the

(33:29):
hit after the fact didn't look quite right, so I'm
curious if it was the first hit there. But anyway, knows,
Hoglander week to week so a great scenario because week
to week he could be ready for the regular season opening.
That is true.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
If it was month to month, then I would have
expected the Canucks to pick up the phone and call
Jack Razlbuck ros Lovenk his agent, because that guy's available
and you can get him cheap, right now, get him cheap.
But this is a really good scenario for the Canucks
week to week and good for them.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
Okay, speaking of the Canucks, one thing we haven't talked
about at all, Rick, we never bring this up, and
that's the future of Quinn Hughes. Of course I'm kidding.
Of course, Quinn. Of course, two years remaining on his contract,
he's able to sign a contract extension July first of
next year. July first, twenty twenty six. Yesterday Ray Ferro
and Darren Drager released their latest podcast and they had

(34:24):
an interview with Canucks head coach Adam Foot and Adam
provide an interesting answer when asked about Ray asked Adam
about the noise around Hughes in his future and Adam
Foot provided a very interesting answer. This is what Adam
Foot had to say yesterday on the Ray and Drakes podcast.

Speaker 7 (34:42):
Quinn and I had we met Patterson and Demko Corner
and I we Huggy and I spent a good couple
hours alone with you know. It was a real good
talk about where he may be now or later. And
for me, I think he's I honestly think he's gonna

(35:04):
be a knuck. I think it's all blown up. I'm
not sure how much he wants to play with his
brothers or not. And I'm not going to get too
deep into it except I said to him, I go,
I'm the type of person and I think he understands me.
Of course I want him here. I'm just going to
coach one each day at a time, and I see
him now, I see him here two years for these
two years, I see him here in the future, and honestly,

(35:28):
if we do what we can do and he ad
buys him the process and he's having fun and you know,
we're winning some hockey games, we'll let everything just take
care of itself.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
That was very interesting because he admitted he sat down
with Hughes and we've to earn a lot about that,
the conversations Adam Foot had in the summer with the
leadership group, including Quinn Hughes. But the fact that then
he went as far as saying, I see him here now,
I see him here in the future. I mean to me,
that answer was the most positive sign we've heard about Quick,

(36:00):
Hughes and his future. Jim Rutherford has been pretty blunt
with wanting to play with his brothers. Quinn is for
the most part, just said, look and I it's down
the road. I'm focused on this year, which I fully
can't because you know, I Ray brought this up in
their podcast yesterday as well. Like even if Quinn said
tomorrow I want to remain a Vancouver Canuck, he still
can't sign a contract. He can't sign a contract for

(36:21):
another year, so I don't you know, it's kind of
much to do about nothing because nothing can be done
until July first. But that answer for Madam foot in
my opinion, was the most positive we've heard somebody from
the Canucks organization talk about the future of Quinn Hughes
here in Vancouver.

Speaker 4 (36:36):
We have not heard Rutherford. Rutherford came out last week.
He did not say anything remotely positive as that. We
have not heard from Melvin or Rutherford saying anything positive
about Quinn Hughes like what foot just did. Yep. Most
people you talk to around the lead, you know that
no one's been that positive about Quinn Hughes resigning Vancouver.

(36:56):
But he still got two years to go. Ryan. It's
not like, I mean, he's not signing today or tomorrow, right,
He cannot sign his extension till July first, right, So
I mean, but that is the first guy, first guy,
Adam foot to be that positive vote Quinn Hughes resigning.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
And one thing you've said all along, Rick, which is
what Adam Foote said at the back end of that answer,
which is looking, they need to They just need to
accomplish things though on the ice like they you know,
I mean, then those things will take care of themselves.
But they can't have a year like last year. They
can't have a field year like last year. And so far,
it's been very quiet around the Vancouver Canucks. There's been

(37:33):
a lot of positivity around the Canucks, whether it's Brandon
Coots or the fact that Peterson put on muscle and
we'll see how that like. There's been a lot of
positivity so far, even though it's early. As you say,
the bullets haven't started flying yet. But you know the
fact that he again he hinted at that conversation and
saying that they had that conversation. He had a conversation

(37:53):
with Quinn Hughes. He used like six nicknames by the
way for Hughes there. He once he said that, then
backing it up with his answer. I thought was quite interesting. Yeah,
that's good.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
If the coach thinks Quinn hees coming back, that's nothing
but positive. Yeah, because we haven't heard that from anyone else.
I'll tell you that much.

Speaker 10 (38:08):
No.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
Absolutely, Canucks kracking seven o'clock tonight, third preseason game. The
preseason can't be over fast enough. It's time now to
talk about our friends at Abel Auctions. Derek, you updated
the photos for Abel, right, Yeah? Okay, good, beautiful October
the ninth, Able Auctions will sell the contents of a

(38:29):
closed Langley fabrication shop and a closed by day spa
raised day spa. Oh really at the fab shop, forkliff,
pickup truck, welders, gantry, crane and more. With the day
Sball auction, body slimming laser Taylor should get in on

(38:51):
this body sculpting equipment. A dozen electric massage tables. Oh
maybe you should get one of those table.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
I haven't had a massage in years. But boy, what No,
where do you get massages?

Speaker 3 (39:05):
Like?

Speaker 4 (39:05):
Are you kidding me?

Speaker 3 (39:06):
Anywhere?

Speaker 4 (39:07):
I haven't had one.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
I have extended healthcare benefits, so I can use it up.
Yeah really, yes, all right, it's lovely. So maybe we
could get an electric massage table in here. What happened
to the electric bikes yesterday? Well, that auction's done. I
believe that auction goes today. So we've moved on to
another upcoming auction. This is happening October the ninth. For

(39:29):

Speaker 3 (40:57):
If you missed it. At the end of our last segment,
Brett McClain, Cannock's assistant head coach, announcing that Nils Hoglander,
after sustaining an injury on Wednesday, is going to be
out week to week. Ricky, you have some more details
on that.

Speaker 4 (41:10):
Yeah, it's a sprained ankle for Hoglander. And it's really
hard to gauge Ryan how long when it comes to sprains.
That's why they say week to week. He could be
better in seven days, ten days, two weeks, three weeks.
I don't know. I just know that it's a sprained ankle.
He's weak to week. Just bad luck for the kid,
Just bad luck for the kid.

Speaker 3 (41:30):
And yesterday was two weeks to the day of the
Canucks home opener October the ninth, So you know, again
the injury occurred on Wednesday. Where he's at next Wednesday
will be interesting to see, and you know, where's he
at with his pain level and all those sorts of things.
So we will see how the Nils Hoglander injury progresses
and also who steps up in his place because that

(41:52):
door is open now for somebody on the team. Reminder
all of our texts and emails going to the Bayside
Ocean Front Resort inbox. This is from MTB Sam. Dolly,
you're so cheap man. The only time I see you
going to games is when you get invited to a suite.
When's the last time you actually bought a ticket and
sat with the regular crowd. Don't break about supporting local ts.

(42:15):
Stop it if you're not backing it up. That's MTB
Sam Rose Day. MTB Sam, listen. I go to junior
games all the time. The best hockey You pay cars,
I pay. Why wouldn't I pay? Those are good kids,
they need our support. I go to junior games out
in White Rock all the time. Junior b waiters are
out there, and Sir Eagles out there. I go see,

(42:37):
I go see those kids. I pay.

Speaker 4 (42:38):
But I'm not gonna Molson wants me in the suite tonight.
I'm not gonna say no.

Speaker 3 (42:42):
I don't know if Molson knows what they invited into
their suite.

Speaker 4 (42:45):
By the way, good guys out in Moulson they're calling
and Brandon.

Speaker 3 (42:49):
Good guys. Thank you to Sam for that submission. We'll
get into more submissions during Is it just me? But
it is time for big ratherther Twitter grid. One thing
I failed to mention Ray when we were talking about
the weekend and all the sports that are happening this
weekend is the Ryder Cup. Yeah, the Ryder Cup got
underway this morning. I saw that spoiler alert, Team Europe

(43:09):
is up three to one right now in the Ryder Cup.
This is from this morning. Okay, So tickets for the
Ryder Cup general admission tickets had a face value of
seven hundred and fifty dollars. What but this year, for
the first time ever, it includes free concessions. So this
was the lineup this morning to get breakfast at the

(43:31):
concessions at the Ryder Cup.

Speaker 4 (43:33):
You kidding?

Speaker 3 (43:33):
Yeah, that's just for breakfast. This is just for breakfast,
eggs and toast. I don't know, I don't know what
they were offering. I know for the lunch. I believe
it was like sandwiches and burgers and hot dogs.

Speaker 4 (43:43):
You can go and you can go. Never stand in
a lineup like that.

Speaker 3 (43:46):
I mean, well yeah, but I mean, hey, for seven
hundred and fifty bucks, I want my free food. And
that's where you want.

Speaker 4 (43:52):
You you're gonna be six hours in the lineup.

Speaker 3 (43:54):
That that is true. They're gonna be six hours in
this lineup and go get your eggs, but then you.

Speaker 4 (44:00):
Miss the golf.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
Yeah, that is true. The PGA Championship, by the way,
Front Office Sports has the tweet. It's the first time ever.
Like I mentioned, the Ryder Cups doing the PGA Championship
had the same strategy at their event where they they
had free concessions along with the face value of the
ticket or the past for the for the golf. So, uh,

(44:21):
it'll be interesting and look at I mean, you're right,
that is a long line and to get through that,
it's gonna take you some time.

Speaker 9 (44:28):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (44:28):
Okay, this is a this is from yesterday. Oh hit
me with the crow, Nina, if you have the crow,
ready to go there. Yesterday the World Cup made an
announcement their mascots were un veiled. Did you see these?
These are the FIFA World Cup mascots for the three
host cities. So on your far left there is Maple,
the moose in the middle is zay Zayu the jaguar. Okay,

(44:53):
that's from Mexico. And for the United States, you have clutch,
the bald eagle, the bald So those are the three.
Those are twenty six mascots.

Speaker 4 (45:03):
I have no issues with that.

Speaker 3 (45:04):
Ah, Like, it's just so you did all the stereotypes, Maple,
the moo. Wonder why Maple? Come on? I wonder why,
Like does the moose constantly say? What did you want
a hockey player there?

Speaker 4 (45:18):
Didn't want a hockey player there?

Speaker 3 (45:20):
No, because of course it is a soccer event.

Speaker 4 (45:22):
Okay, but still you're complaining about maple. What's more Canadian
than a hockey stick? That's what they're going at, right there.

Speaker 3 (45:30):
Is the moose, the most Canadian animal. I thought the
beaver was our Canadian animal.

Speaker 4 (45:34):
No debatable, debatable. I have no issues with them. They're fine.
So at every game, these guys are gonna be.

Speaker 3 (45:40):
There, yeah, I mean well all yeah, they'll be the
official mascot. So probably at press events coming up here
in the next little bit, and then also at the
different matches you'll probably see them walking around. I will say,
the bald eagle looks pretty cool, so does the jaguar.
They all look pretty cool. I just for the Canada one.
It's just too cliched to me, Like a moose really
calling it maple really yeah, like maple syrup.

Speaker 4 (46:00):
Well, they had to do something.

Speaker 3 (46:02):
You had a run in with a moose up up
north that one time.

Speaker 4 (46:05):
I hit him with the company radio station van. Yeah,
true story. My buddy was in the van with me.
We're coming back from Dawson Creek. It's the Alaska Highway.

Speaker 3 (46:14):
Is full of moose. Right, I've never seen a moose.
Did it survive?

Speaker 4 (46:19):
Did we on need we need that nip it a
little bit?

Speaker 3 (46:22):
Did you check on it there?

Speaker 4 (46:23):
Obviously? But he ran off, He ran off. Okay, I
didn't hit it and it was lying on the floor
or the road. And now, yeah, I think we hitse
the Alaska Highway.

Speaker 3 (46:35):
There you go. So you'll see Maple the moose around
at a World Cup events. Okay, one other tweet here.
It's actually an update. You can hit it with the cronina.
It's an update to something we talked about yesterday. Remember
yesterday we had the fan catching Cal Rowley's sixtieth home
run baseball and he gave the baseball to the kid. Yeah,
we said, how nice that was. Well, the Mariners tracked

(46:56):
down the fans. Oh, the fan that caught number sixty
Glenn Is his name. He's pictured here with Cal Raley
and his family. That's Glenn in the in the Mariner's
hat right in the middle there. So this is from
Adam Gresh. He's part of the Mariner's communication communications team.
We got our guy. Glenn and his family met Cal

(47:17):
during pregame today, who gifted them a sign bat and
two baseballs. Naturally, Glenn gave the baseballs to his kids,
and the baseball bat Cal rode on it something like
thank you for being such a generous fan, and then
he signed it, which I got to say, you know,
the sixtieth home run baseball will be quite valuable, especially
if he goes on to win the MVP, that will

(47:39):
be a pretty big thing. But to have a personally
described baseball bat from the potential MVP during this run
and having that viral moment and everything that is quite
valuable as well.

Speaker 4 (47:49):
Absolutely, I just love what he did. You know, most
people would have caught the ball and thought, money, how
much you're can I get for this?

Speaker 3 (47:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (47:57):
Oh boy? Could I get a million for this? Can
I get two million for this?

Speaker 3 (48:01):
He gave it to a kid, and I'm happy that
the Mariners recognize that, and then did something for him,
good stuff. And you'll notice Cal's T shirt. If you
say then the words out, you get what it means.
It's their slogan at the moment. It's something it right,
and they've found a creative way to put that on

(48:22):
a T shirt and wear it out in the public.
So that's what Cal is wearing there again. Mariner's sweeping
the Rockies last night final series against the Dodgers. They've
clinched that first round by so they will be onto
the Alds starting next Saturday in Seattle. And by the way, Rick,
you were talking about how busy it's going to be
around downtown here today, it's about to be insane in
downtown Seattle because the Mariners play along with Seahawks games,

(48:45):
along with Sounders games. They're expecting like one hundred thousand
people I think for the first day of the Mariners
game on the October the fourth. It's going to be
very busy in Seattle. So set Seattle's hopping right now.

Speaker 4 (48:57):
They got the University Sports scoring Mariners and on Sounders
of course the Sounders. And if they ever get the
NBA back, Ryan, Wow.

Speaker 3 (49:07):
Well, and that's an that's a when not a n
if I mean at this point.

Speaker 4 (49:10):
Well, it's not gonna happen overnight.

Speaker 3 (49:11):
No, it's odd, but that building is ready made, and
I think that there's there's people there that are looking
to bring back the NBA as quick as possible. Okay,
we just talked about the Mariners. We're gonna talk about
them a little bit more. We will also talk about
the Toronto Blue Jays because we're gonna chat with James
Paxton from Ladder, the former MLB pitcher. He is on
the program next. A reminder is it just me coming

(49:33):
up around eleven forty or so along with DTMZ. So
the eleven o'clock hour is loaded. It's our final hour
of the week on the program. I'm Ryan Henderson. This
is Donnie Dlly the team on Check.

And a reminder that scholarship deadline closes on Sunday. Yes,

(50:37):
so get the details on that, get your submission entered
in before Sunday before the close. Excited to talk with
Ladner's very own James Paxton on the show Eleven seasons
in the MLB, seven of which we're in Seattle. Get
to catch up with James. James, thanks for doing this today.
How are you done?

Speaker 8 (50:56):
Well?

Speaker 9 (50:56):
Are you guys?

Speaker 3 (50:56):
We're good. We're good. So we're gonna talk mariners of course. Second,
but I got to ask you. You came out of
retirement last weekend. I believe it was at T Mobile Park.
The Savannah Bananas were in town and you took you
went back to the mound. You had a strikeout in
twenty three seconds. Wow, which I'm gonna assume is a

(51:17):
record for you. What was the experience like James getting
back on the mound and having some fun with the
Savannah Bananas.

Speaker 11 (51:22):
Oh man, it was awesome. You know, they had a
full house, forty seven thousand tons of fun. Just brought
back lots of memories being out there on that mound.

Speaker 9 (51:31):
It was great.

Speaker 3 (51:31):
Yeah. These guys, if you don't know about them, it's
essentially the Harlem Globetrotters in baseball. They have a ton
of fun and they've been going around ballparks all summer
long to packed houses. So the visuals have just been outstanding. Okay, James,
the Mariners again, seven seasons for you as a Mariner,
they've clinched a playoff, birth, they've clinched the Al West.

(51:52):
Just you as an alumni member of the Mariners. How
impressed are you about what they did this year? Man?

Speaker 11 (51:57):
It's an exciting team to watch, you know, they're finally
I mean with Cal sixty homers, unbelievable, so fun to watch.
Bringing over Suarez, you know, I think I saw that
he hit his was his forty ninth or fifth the.

Speaker 3 (52:09):
Other yeah, forty ninth?

Speaker 11 (52:11):
Yeah, man, I mean what an exciting team. That pitching staff,
they they got it all man, They're they're playing as
a team. Everyone's contributing, and it's going to be exciting.

Speaker 3 (52:21):
So it's only the sixth time in franchise history the
Mariners have clinched a playoff berth, which is incredible. You've
course spent seven years there. To just talk about what
you think that means to the fan base. Again, They've
gone through all the ups and downs with the franchise
and here they are finally back in the postseason. I
shouldn't say finally first time since twenty twenty two, but
only six times overall. Just talk about the fan base
in Seattle.

Speaker 11 (52:42):
You know, this fan base has been waiting for a
long time for a team that has a chance to
win it all. You know, I think back in twenty
twenty two they had a good team, but I don't
think they had the team they had this year. You know,
this year, I think they really have a chance to
take it all the way and go to a World Series,
which is super exciting for the Seattle fan base. You know,
they've been waiting a long time for a World Series.
They never had, never gotten one, and I'm hoping that

(53:03):
this year they'll be able to pull it off.

Speaker 3 (53:05):
Hey, James, let's go over to the Blue Jays, Canada's team.
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (53:09):
Uh you know what, they have struggled a bit in
the past week and a half. What are you seeing there?
What are some of the problems they got to get
going here? Because the playoffs right around the corner.

Speaker 11 (53:18):
James, Yeah, you know, they they were really hot right
to start the season. They came out of the gates
really well, and then they've kind of been slumping this
last little bit. I know, Bashet's hurt. Yeah, that hurts
the line up a little bit, and Guerrero hasn't really
got going, you know the way that he can. So
you know they're gonna need a full team effort to

(53:39):
kind of pull it together and get guys a step up.
You know, var Show is a big guy in that team.
He had a big homery the other night for them,
you know. So it's just gonna be putting it all
together and everybody contributing and the pitchers doing their job
for them.

Speaker 4 (53:52):
All right, James, I gotta ask you the Blue Jays
Canada's team, but guys like this guy loves the Mariners.
You're a lower main life guy.

Speaker 3 (54:00):
Which way?

Speaker 9 (54:01):
What's that?

Speaker 6 (54:01):
Who?

Speaker 3 (54:01):
Come on? Who s stop? Who should the people of
Vancouver be cheering for James or MS.

Speaker 11 (54:07):
Come on, James, hey man, it's everybody's personal choice. I
was I was a Mariners guy. You know, I was
the growing up Randy Johnson here. You know, it's the
team I got to go watch live, was the was
the Mariners. I was always a fan and obviously playing
for the Mariners. Huge fan, Love the people there, love
the fans here in Seattle. I'd love to see Seattle

(54:29):
win a World Series and just how exciting that would
be for this this town.

Speaker 4 (54:32):
Twenty three Canadian players in Major League Baseball this season?
How proud? How how proud are you when you hear
that number, and probably some of them at some points
that I'm I'm gonna be the next James Paxton talk
about Canada baseball and how well it's doing.

Speaker 11 (54:49):
Canada baseball is doing great. You know, it's really good
to see twenty three players in the big leagues. I
think that we are really working on our development of
players up there, something that I'd like to be a
art of at some point maybe, But it's exciting to
see the guys. And now we have Naylor, you know,
on the Mariners, a really good player, exciting to watch.

(55:10):
And I don't know the young guys that are coming
up the through the minor leagues right now, but I'm
sure that there's some exciting players coming up that are
Canadian and I'm excited to keep a keep an.

Speaker 3 (55:20):
Eye on it. James, you touched on cal Raley and
you mentioned Ken Griffy Junior of course, broke Junior's record
for the most home runs and a Mariner's season. Just
talk about cal Raley. I mean, he's up to sixty now. Shockingly,
he didn't get another one last night, but he could
break the al record. This is just so impressive for
a catcher, especially.

Speaker 11 (55:40):
Yeah, switch hitting cashers. Yeah, it's just like the season
that he's putting together a special you know, and it's
been extremely exciting to watch that guy hit this year.
He's obviously found something that's clicked. He's staying in the moment,
you know, he's locked in, and I think he's just
the leader of that team and he wants it for
the team, wants it for the city, and he's showing

(56:03):
them the way.

Speaker 3 (56:04):
In twenty nineteen, James, when you were with the Yankees,
you went to the postseason. What is it like when
you take that step into the postseason and that extra
gear in the intensity, especially for a pitcher.

Speaker 11 (56:17):
It's a lot, you know, it's a lot. I remember
my first game. I pitched the first game for the
Yankees in the postseason against Minnesota, and it was my
first time in the postseason, and my entire body was
just tangling.

Speaker 7 (56:30):
Dude.

Speaker 11 (56:30):
I was like, I couldn't feel all my hand. It
was just rear back and let it rip and trust it.
And you know, I think I hear this message all
the time, like slow it down, slow it down, and
I think that I think that's the wrong message. Man.
You're fighting, you're fighting the uh what's actually happening, and
you're being distracted by fighting it. And I think that

(56:52):
you got to accept that energy and use it at
the right time. And I think the teams that you
see that really succeed in the postseason are the teams
that use that energy, use that extra gear, and apply
it at the right time.

Speaker 3 (57:03):
Your resume, James is incredible. Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers fit
your final season the MLB. You split it between the
Dodgers and the Red Sox, But a couple of weeks back,
I believe the Dodgers presented you with the World Series Ring.
How cool was that?

Speaker 5 (57:17):
Oh?

Speaker 11 (57:18):
Man, it was awesome.

Speaker 9 (57:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (57:20):
I went down there for a little golf trips, some buddies,
went to a game, went to BP, and uh, they
gave me my ring. It was super exciting. Yeah, I mean,
I I always wanted to get a ring. It was
too bad I wasn't there in the end when they
won it. But to get a ring, it's still super
special and I'll cherish that thing for forever.

Speaker 3 (57:40):
So do you flaunt it? Do you flex on your buddies?
Do you wear it out? Or is it under lock
and key and nobody's allowed near it?

Speaker 11 (57:47):
No, I'll show it off to people. Yeah, I'll here,
but i'll definitely, uh probably walk it up here soon
and keep it safe.

Speaker 3 (57:55):
That's awesome. Well, James, thanks so much for doing this
today again, James, James, James. Oh, here we go. James.

Speaker 4 (58:00):
I hear you're doing a podcast soon with a guy
named Chad Day. Do yourself a favor. Don't listen to him.
He doesn't know what he's doing. He's clueless, that guy.
Don't listen to him a lot of fun. Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 11 (58:13):
I think he's gonna bring the energy. You know, he'll
have the business side and stuff the club outside. It'll
be an interesting show. We're trying to get it all
worked out right now and put it together.

Speaker 3 (58:23):
That's awesome. Well, good luck with that, James, and good
luck to your former club, Seattle Mariners. It's gonna be
a fun couple of weeks. Thanks for doing this today, James,
appreciate it.

Speaker 11 (58:30):
Thanks guys, take care of it.

Speaker 3 (58:31):
James Paxton from Ladner eleven season to the MLB. I touched
on it there, Rick. So he plays for the team
he grew up watching YEP for seven years, Seattle Seattle.
Then he plays for the Yankees and the Red Sox
and the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (58:46):
Storied franchise, I.

Speaker 3 (58:47):
Mean that isn't that's incredible.

Speaker 4 (58:50):
Storied franchises. And you know what, hockey players get all
the credit in Canada for making the NHL. Guys like
him don't get enough credit. You're right, in Major League Baseball, don't.
We don't give him the same type of coverage that
we give a guy that was in the Lower Mainland
that made the NHL. It's sad, but it's true. Yeah, no,
you're you're totally right. Ricky's just as hard for him

(59:13):
to make Major League Baseball and stay there than it
is for a hockey player from the Lower Mainland to
make the NHL and stay there.

Speaker 3 (59:19):
Absolutely everyone knows Badard and Cellabrini and you know any
kid that's coming through the Lower Mainland. But you're right.
I mean, it's an impressive accomplishment and impressive career for
James Packson, and he tops it off with the Dodgers
World Series ring. That's outstanding. Coming up next, we're gonna
touch back on the pole question some Canucks as well.
This is Donnie and Dolly the team on check.

Time now to update our Wadling Dog poll question or reminder.
You can experience one of Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep, sip,
and stock up all in one legendary spot, come, sit
and stay at the Dog today and a reminder at

(01:00:38):
D and D merchandise also at the Wattling Dog and
Baside Resort.

Speaker 4 (01:00:42):
All right, Nina, get her up the Watling Dog pop
poll question. It is which Cannucks player intrigues you the
most tonight? Coots obviously, the rookie out of Seattle, Elas Peterson,
Wilander Caine. This one's getting close now. It was a
runaway for Coots at forty six percent, but at least
Petterson's kind of climbed in the second place at thirty

(01:01:03):
seven percent, five hundred votes. We just posted it recently,
just about an hour ago. So there you go, Eleast,
Petterson and and and people tonight. Don't expect six points,
don't expect ten points. Don't expect anything from Petterson Others.
What are you talking about? It's preseason roll.

Speaker 3 (01:01:21):
You're telling me if Petterson goes pointless tonight. Oh, you're
telling him meaningless. You're tell season game. You're telling me
on Monday when you open up our bayside inbox, there
won't be anybody bringing that up.

Speaker 4 (01:01:35):
I want to I want to see his habits. I
want to see his skating, I want to see his creativity.

Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
I want to assist tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:01:42):
I want to see just him showing glimpses of the
guy that got one hundred points. That's all I want. No, yeah,
you're wrong. I want to see who's getting see production tonight.
Who's getting six points a game in the preseason nobody? No,
you're right, Okay, So who's getting it?

Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
Nobody?

Speaker 4 (01:01:57):
And but here's the thing tonight, he's got really good
wingers with them, uh and Debraska and debrask which is
really good, to be.

Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
Honest, Rick kidding aside, it's probably the best thing you
could see tonight would be chemistry out of those three,
because let's be honest, they've been together since training camp.
The start of training camp. I think that's what Adam
Foot is looking at as their first line and opening night.
So if they don't look good enough together tonight, I
think I might put the coaching staff back to the

(01:02:25):
drawing board a little bit. Maybe Kane does end up
going with Peterson or whatever happens.

Speaker 4 (01:02:29):
Look but just a step by step. It's his first
preseason game for Pederson. Just let's see glimpses. Let's see
signs that the old eliass is back. But don't read
into anything. Look at you, you're already doing it. You're
causing a mess. Of course, you're causing immense pressure.

Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
On the guy in a preseason It's it's here, man,
it's here. Stop it, stop it, and look you. We
have seen players lighted up in the preseason and do nothing.
Then we've seen guys do nothing in the preseason and
like it up. I know it can happen. Bottom line
is I'm telling you if they if they don't, if
he doesn't get a point tonight, oh our in box

(01:03:07):
up Monday, we'll have submissions about that. You mark my words.
And the guy sitting in this chair so he calls
them eleven six, he might be saying something too. You
think points in a preseason game is that big? With
everything surrounding Pederson, I think there's something.

Speaker 4 (01:03:20):
Doing Rice time last summer he had injuries.

Speaker 3 (01:03:24):
Yeah, I know, we know about all of the things.
You didn't have it.

Speaker 4 (01:03:27):
I just want to see I want to see the skating.
I want to see some creativity. I want to see
him make some nice plays slowly get back to where
he used to be when he got one hundred points.

Speaker 3 (01:03:36):
That's all so beyond tonight in the Vancouver Canucks. There's
a lot of other things going on. We mentioned in
the WHL. The Giants are at home tonight at the
LC to take on the Victoria Royals tomorrow night. And
there's the graphic. By the way, the Indigenous vendor market
is happening in the banquet hall. I believe doors open.
It's five thirty. Yeah, yeah, they do it, says in

(01:03:57):
the graphic. They're five thirty for doors, so you can
get there early.

Speaker 4 (01:04:01):
In the twenty fifth year, yeah, it's a massive year
for the Giants. Giants, Ron toygo, Scott Bonner. Back in
nineteen ninety nine, they got the team. They these guys,
I'll tell you they did a great job. You on
the call, and they got the Memorial Cup at home
over medicine. Hat Bonner put that team together. Ron toygo,
great job. Twenty five years of the Giants, what a
beautiful thing.

Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
The Royals will be back home tomorrow to take on
the Giants. The Ben Tickton v's open their WHL campaign
at home tonight as they take on Colowna. And a
reminder tomorrow white Caps in Seattle seven thirty kickoff as
they take on the Sounders. As they mentioned, the Giants
are back in Victoria and the Women's Rugby World Cup
Final happening at eight am tomorrow Canada versus England. The

(01:04:44):
one thing, the other thing that's going on tonight that
I did not mention there, and that is the BC
Lions taking with them Lions argos tonight at BC Place.
Tonight is a special night, by the way, the first
ten thousand fans are going to get the latest edition
of their orange shirt. It's their orange shirt game happening
tonight at BC Place. So the game is at seven o'clock.

(01:05:04):
First ten thousand fans will get their hands on their
the newest edition of the Lions orange shirt. And we
talk about this all the time, Rick, but the Indigenous logo,
the Indigenous version of the Lion's logo is so fantastic.
It's just so outstanding. I saw them at practice yesterday
they had the helmets on. It's on this shirt as well.
It just looks great. It looks great.

Speaker 4 (01:05:23):
It does. And this orange, it takes me back Ryan
to the orange of the Empire Stadium and the royd
Walt and Merton Fernandez and Nick Kebler, my good pal.
When they wore the orange. It was so beautiful, the
orange of the eighties for the Lions. Why don't they
bring it back? No, I don't like these new Lions uniforms,
this fog stuff, this is all crap. Get back to

(01:05:46):
the old days, the BC Lions Empire of the orange
was so beautiful. Also with the Lions, as our show
began today, oh yeah, they announced. They posted on Twitter
that after tonight's first quarter they are going to be
making a major announcement and they tweeted out this graphic
on their Twitter accounts something major is coming at the

(01:06:09):
first quarter. And then there's the graphic there And for
those of you in the podcast, the graphic is like
a water and it says announcement coming.

Speaker 3 (01:06:16):
So look, there's a lot of speculation, including from one
of our great listeners who wrote into the inbox and
said that he believes that it could have links to
an announcement surrounding what the Lions are going to be
doing next June, when the World Cup takes over BC
place for about six weeks. Yeah, so, as I mentioned
in the first hour, the Argos have already made their announcement,

(01:06:39):
so there was we are waiting on what the Lions
are going to be doing.

Speaker 4 (01:06:42):
I think it's fairly obvious that the lines will announce
tonight where they're going to play their games. Obviously Victoria
the water you saw, it's going to be in Victoria.

Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:06:51):
I do wonder if Kelowna gets a game. I don't
know what. I'm just guessing, but obviously they're gonna have
to go to Victoria. It's a great shetup. They've been there.
It looks super on television.

Speaker 3 (01:06:59):
And look at it. I mean again, Amar Doman has
done such an amazing job with the Lions since he
took over his owner, and the highlights so far is
what they've done when they've gone over to the island
and played those games. Why not try that out, try
the same thing in the Okanagan and go to Kelowna.

Speaker 4 (01:07:15):
At there because the revenue have to absolutely the tickets
have to be there. Then you got to have the
CFL regulation field, you got to have the players sign off.
Nathan Rourke's not going to sign off if the field's
not good. Yeah, it's all about revenue.

Speaker 3 (01:07:30):
It's easier said than done. I get that there is
a lot of fans in the interior, and I think
it would just be fantastic, especially in June, you know,
summer kickoff in full swing. I think it would be outstanding.
So Lions argos tonight. The Lions are looking to get
revenge on the Argos. We should mention as well. James
Butler running back is back in the Lions lineup tonight
as well after being off last week. Xander Horvack, Boy,

(01:07:51):
they didn't miss them, he was, so he's going to
back up James Butler. You mentioned Nathan worked there Rick,
so of course. Monday, CFL Commissioner Stuart Johnston announces these changes.
Nathan Rourke comes out and he was pretty outspoken that
he was opposed to them. He met with the media
for the first time yesterday, uh and was asked by

(01:08:15):
Steve Ewan about, you know, since there's been time to
take a breath on all of that, you know, how
are you feeling since that time and also more importantly,
who did you hear from after you made those comments
and what did they say to you?

Speaker 10 (01:08:29):
For those people who matter to me in their opinions matter,
it's been really positive.

Speaker 9 (01:08:34):
Did you talk to the week?

Speaker 12 (01:08:35):
I did.

Speaker 9 (01:08:36):
Yeah, I'm happy with that.

Speaker 12 (01:08:39):
I don't want to say happy the right word.

Speaker 9 (01:08:43):
Where's it going in your mind?

Speaker 3 (01:08:46):
What's that this whole situation is.

Speaker 12 (01:08:49):
It's out of my control. You know, I'm hoping.

Speaker 10 (01:08:51):
I'm hoping that you know, eventually, you know, uh, they'll
they'll listen to somebody. Hopefully there's enough people out there
who watch the game, love the CFL that are able
to speak up and you know, make their voice heard
and and you know we can we can try to
try to. I mean collectively, we all want the lead
to get better, right, So it's it's about but it's

(01:09:13):
about what what what's the problem with that?

Speaker 12 (01:09:16):
And I think that's the big disagreement.

Speaker 10 (01:09:17):
So hopefully understanding that we got an exciting league, exciting players,
exciting teams, citing football, we can focus on other things.

Speaker 3 (01:09:28):
I said it Rick off the air earlier this week.
I I mean, I don't know. Nathan Rourk's got a
long career still ahead of him, but I I think
he could be the commissioner one day. I mean, the
way he's come across the way he's talking. Maybe maybe
he doesn't have the business background like they would want
as a commissioner, but the way he's maybe with the
CFL p A, but the way he's talked this week
and the way he communicated his opinion, and look, he

(01:09:50):
disagreed with this the with with these changes that were announced,
and that's okay that he disagrees with them, and he
has he brought it up again yesterday. He has a
you nea perspective being a Canadian quarterback, but he has
also gone down to the NFL. He's experienced that and
then came back home and he also feels that with
his status in the league, he has a platform and

(01:10:12):
he wants to use it and he used it earlier
this week and there was no problem with that. And
you know, he said doesn't want to use the word happy,
but he did confirm and we heard this from yesterday
when the commimissioner was on with us. He did talk
to the commissioner and they had a chat.

Speaker 4 (01:10:27):
A proud Canadian sticking up for a Canadian product. There's
nothing wrong with that, zero zilch, none good on him
for doing that. Absolutely had no issues with what he
said on Monday zero. Okay, we got DTMZ coming up next.
Is it just me after that? But first you have
some business. You're going to talk about our friends in
pastime sports. Absolutely check out the largest selection of sports memorabilly,

(01:10:50):
autographed items, trading cards and collectible games of Western Canada
pastime Sports. Look at that beautiful Two players coming up
in Langley, Connor, Garland Sunday, October fifth, Jake Bross Saturday
November twenty second and Jonathan Lkaramaki to be announced. Details
on these events, upcoming signings and card drops available at

(01:11:10):
Pastime Sports.

Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
Dots in front of the laptop today, I've got that
Leo Messi figurine still that Taylor loves. Thankfully it's still here.
I thought he was gonna take like it.

Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
I like it.

Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
It's nice right in the middle. Key for Surewood signed.

Speaker 4 (01:11:23):
Poll Key for Surewood a UFA this year.

Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
What's happening there? Anything? You got any What are you
talking about? They're not.

Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
They haven't gone in a hot and heavy talks yet.

Speaker 3 (01:11:34):
As sure.

Speaker 4 (01:11:34):
With the Canucks, I think the Canucks want to wait.
But here's the problem. If the Canucks wait, wait, wait,
and this guy, you know, Pops in twenty goals, leads
the NHL and hits again. The price is gonna go up. Yeah,
it's gonna go up, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
And then on the far left Nils Hoglander rookie cart
sign again. He was a recent autographed signee at Pastime Sports.
And if you missed it today, earlier on in the show,
week to week for Nils Hoglander officially Ricky Sprain.

Speaker 4 (01:12:04):
Poor kid had a horrible year last year. Starts out
training camp. Really a nice kid. You know, he's had
his ups and downs of Vancouver, but he's just a
really good kid.

Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
Well, and we just talked about his interview talking about it,
you know, another cup and trying to get off to
a good start, and then this happens. So hopefully it's
not a long term injury. But it is week to
week for Nils Hoglander. Up next time for DTMZ and birthdays.
Somebody is adding onto their family in a big way.
Rick We're gonna talk about that next. It's Donniani the

(01:12:33):
team on Check.

Speaker 4 (01:12:37):
It's eleven thirty two on a Friday morning. Donniadolio on
Check TV. Now time for DTMZ, brought to you by
the world famous Whister Golf Club coaching. Big al out there,
Great Track, Great Track.

Speaker 3 (01:12:48):
The Arnold Palmer designed Whistler Golf Club presents DTMZ where
their extensive golf course renovation is happening now. For weekly updates,
follow them on Instagram at Whistler Golf. Look at that.
I mean, they are going nutso at it and they
are updating constantly as well on their Twitter account as well,

(01:13:08):
but specifically their Instagram. You can search up Whistler Golf. Okay.
A former NFL MVP and member of the Seattle Seahawks. Yeah,
Sean Alexander was recently on The Up and Adams Show
with Kay Adams, where he announced an addition to his family.

Speaker 9 (01:13:28):
Look at this beautiful family, Sean, Wow, oh my gosh.

Speaker 3 (01:13:33):
So I wasn't.

Speaker 12 (01:13:34):
We're just now starting to tell people.

Speaker 3 (01:13:35):
But number fourteen is in the belly.

Speaker 1 (01:13:38):
What the first one I've told on TV?

Speaker 3 (01:13:44):
So yeah, so yeah, so we're just now starting to
tell everybody.

Speaker 7 (01:13:48):
So we have had ten girls, three boys.

Speaker 3 (01:13:54):
So in case you missed it, there their fourteenth child
now also, so fourteen. They've had thirteen children of course
before this one. Ten girls, I mean that is that's
pretty incredible. Ten girls, and three boys like all of
our friends, all of me and my friends and all
of their kids. We have one girl in the lot.
It was all boys. I don't know why what was

(01:14:16):
going on, but it's it was out of control. So
Sean Alexander announcing the fourteenth child. Uh, he of course
is in the and you can see the family photo there,
which is getting harder and harder to get everybody in
the shot. There's how many kids? Okay, well you give
the wife a shut out? Well, yeah, I meant to
go through that.

Speaker 4 (01:14:33):
It's like, I mean, look at this, I mean, okay,
Philip Rivers has ten.

Speaker 3 (01:14:37):
Yeah, I was just gonna mention that Philip has he's
got ten.

Speaker 4 (01:14:40):
And let me take you back the Brady Bunch six kids.

Speaker 9 (01:14:45):
Shows.

Speaker 4 (01:14:45):
They didn't have the Waltons, remember the Waltons, John boyeven
I don't remember the Waltons. And there was a show
called eight is Enough with the Dick Van Patten back
in the eighties. Yeah, eight and a half. There was
eight kids.

Speaker 3 (01:14:58):
It's fiction.

Speaker 4 (01:14:59):
It was a show.

Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
But I'm trying to tell you back in the day people.

Speaker 4 (01:15:03):
Had six, seven, eight kids family. This is ridiculous, unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (01:15:09):
Fourteen is quite impressive.

Speaker 4 (01:15:10):
Wow. Okay, Now you got to put him through school. Yeah,
you gotta put him through sports, right, okay, and then
you gotta have weddings.

Speaker 3 (01:15:17):
But Sean in a very good NFL career and he's
probably not hurting in any way. He just speaking engagements
and that sort of thing since then, so he's probably
doing just fine. But all right, you're right. Props to
the wife. Fourteen kids. I mean, have you seen the
birth rate around the world. No, but I low search, No,
I do this research.

Speaker 4 (01:15:36):
I do this research. The birth rate right now in
the world is incredibly low. People don't It's one point
six or something one point five. And this guy's blowing
the birth rate right on the water.

Speaker 3 (01:15:47):
He is. He is. So hey, congratulations to Shine Alexander
and his family. Fourteen kids. That's impressive. Okay, to your time,
your two sign for birthdays.

Speaker 4 (01:15:56):
Okay, let's go here, Nina, get the music up. September
twenty sixth, we got four birthdays brought to you by
Little Rickey's Car Wash and Casino in Manilaki, Quebec.

Speaker 3 (01:16:07):
Artwork from j Pack in Mission, Good Guy out Mission,
I Love Mission.

Speaker 4 (01:16:12):
Okay. This former Canucks Forwards forward was born in Orange Colds,
Vic Sweden. Oh it's Henrik and Daniel City. Okay, but
I don't think you had the pronounced. Do you know
that to your hometown? I don't think that's Vishal the
well known. What do you mean do you think everybody
in Vancouver knows?

Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
I think most. I think Cold's Vic Sweden. You're not
saying it right now, I think, but yeah, I think.

Speaker 4 (01:16:34):
You're not gonna get You're not gonna get this. I
guarantee it. Smooth hock distributing center. Twelve years in the NHL.
He played best years in Saint Louis early nineteen nineties.
All three nothing ay, I thought so. An arbitrator awarded
this player to the Vancouver Canucks for compensation for the

(01:16:55):
blue signing of Peter and Nebbett.

Speaker 3 (01:16:58):
Nothing.

Speaker 4 (01:17:00):
This player used to play jan that's it. Craig Jenny,
Craig Jenny remember him? Nedved Saint Louis, Vancouver and Jenny said, no,
get me out of here. All right, you guys might
have trouble with this. Uh. This player won four Stanley Cups,
one with the Ducks, one three with the Penguins. Olympic

(01:17:22):
gold medalists for Canada. As well incredible on ice magic
with Sidney Crosby. Oh it is Knits kuonits Chris Kunitz, Chris,
do you always forget about the ducks one? Because you're
right making me what he was? Undrafted?

Speaker 3 (01:17:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:17:36):
Good Saskatchewan boy ends up going to Anaheim and that
was with Brian Burke. Okay, let's go. She's the only

both singles and doubles. At the twenty seventeen Australian Opened,
she won her twenty third major singles title, passing Stephanie

(01:17:58):
Grafft's Open era record. Are you guys kidding me?

Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
Like? Is it one of the Williams sisters?

Speaker 9 (01:18:03):
Na?

Speaker 4 (01:18:03):
Yea.

Speaker 3 (01:18:04):
You you got to come up with a name Serena
Williams Williams Venus Williams.

Speaker 4 (01:18:09):
Yeah, okay, you guys better get this because this is
one of my This is anyways listen. British and Australian
singer and actress with over one hundred million records sold.
Are you kidding me?

Speaker 3 (01:18:25):
Yeah? I know it's Olivia Newton John see Cheetah.

Speaker 4 (01:18:28):
How are you living from physical?

Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:18:31):
I sct physical Physical nineteen eighty one, massive hit in
the eighties. She was so good John Travolta, Mai Greece exactly,
Grease rest in Peace. Yeah, yes, she's with this, but
she was so good in Greece, magic with John Travolta
and so many good songs. Let's get physical. It was
a great video. God bless her. Olivia Newton John absolutely phenomenal.

(01:18:55):
That's it, yep, that's it.

Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
Outstanding, it was it was We got a few, got
a few.

Speaker 4 (01:19:03):
Get Oliby Newton John.

Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
I saw it earlier today, but also the singer, Hey,
I can't get it. I I get that you didn't
have this birthday because it's actually happening tomorrow. Okay the
meat Loaf. Oh yes, he turned seventy four tomorrow. So
to play us out is Paradise by the dashboard light.
You love this song? Apparently? I love it.

Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
I love it from.

Speaker 3 (01:19:26):
Nineteen seventy seven in the Bat Out of Hell album.
Is It Just Me is coming up next? Happy birthday
to meet Loaf tomorrow today, said.

Speaker 4 (01:19:45):

(01:20:57):
we do have to start with it. Oh yeah, I
need to make a I need make.

Speaker 4 (01:21:00):
You should tell people that.

Speaker 3 (01:21:01):
Yeah, meat loaf passed away in twenty twenty two. Yeah,
so I apologized for missing that part. So he's not
obviously not gonna be celebrating a birthday tomorrow, but he
was born tomorrow. Cool.

Speaker 4 (01:21:13):
Here we oh, Ryan, you go because you screwed me
up on the meat loaf because I mark I was
reading text.

Speaker 3 (01:21:20):
Another clarification. We showed the World Cup mascots earlier today, right,
and I threw it out there. This is from doctor
Dougie the Beaver. So the World Cup mascot for Canada
is a moose?

Speaker 4 (01:21:32):
Is a moose?

Speaker 3 (01:21:33):
And I said, isn't the beaver Canada's national animal or
whatever doctor Dougie writes in Is it just me but
the beaver and the Canadian horse or the official nationalist
symbols for Canada. Wow, So there you go. And we're
also and yet we're using a moose.

Speaker 4 (01:21:50):
Yeah, And we're also getting a ton of text about
how many people were in a family are Yeah, we
are RP and White Rock. I grew up in white
Rock back in the sixties and seventies, brothers and sisters
across the street from a family with nine kids. And
now people don't want to have more than two kids
because obviously, you know, it's expensive. Cost of living. Yeah,

(01:22:12):
cost of living is through the roof, and people don't
want nine kids or seven or eight whatever. Yeah, and
that's why the birth rate is so low.

Speaker 3 (01:22:19):
Well, and all of your example is you know the
TV families that didn't really work. It didn't work, it's
all it's a TV show. It doesn't but it could
have had fifty kids.

Speaker 4 (01:22:28):
Walton's were in the seventies, eighties, and you love I
know Brady Bunch was in the eighties.

Speaker 3 (01:22:34):
Six kids. You think six kids is easy? Ryan, Give
me a break. This this is something you can weigh
in on here, Rick, This is from Tim and Parksville.
Is it just me? But if Mancini is the real
deal and makes the club, would that make Coronic a
piece that Canucks can dangle to get an elusive two c.

Speaker 4 (01:22:54):
No, No, Mancini's got to prove. You got to play
one full year. Like he's never played that extensive time
in the national hockey You don't know what you have.
He started out good, But Philip Pronic's not going anywhere, folks.
I mean they signed him up long term. He's on
the right side, first pair so I don't see that,
but I do agree with him that Mancini is absolutely

(01:23:15):
rocketed up the charts in this training camp. Hey guys,
tomorrow is Victoria Cougar's Day. The Victoria Royals are raising
a Stanley Cup banner in honor of their Stanley Cup
win one hundred years ago. I'm gonna go down to
catch the game. That is Doug in Nanaimo. So that's
a pretty signific that's Astoria roy We'll ask mckechee. He
was Harry, Okay, you know you always say that about

(01:23:39):
Don I do, and I always said about my pallet,
John mckechee. I love John. Everybody knows that this is
from Surrey Troy. Is it just me?

Speaker 3 (01:23:47):
Or when Zadorov had Cole left, did the buffer between
JT and Pete also go right?

Speaker 4 (01:23:56):
It did? That's a great that's a great text. People
don't realize how I Porten's the door off was in
and out of that dressing room. He was a very
important piece and they lost him. But they did try
to give him back. I have to give him credit,
but they were just a little bit too late for
the party. Molson sweet must not be a Crown Royal
suite slate bag and mission. My buddy out in Mission
slate Bag. I like him a lot lines game tonight

(01:24:18):
we will.

Speaker 3 (01:24:19):
Be there and yeah, and you made this point on
Bruff and Rough earlier today. Because you're in a molten suite,
you don't feel like anybody can drink anything else.

Speaker 4 (01:24:30):
It's a beer sweet. If you're in a Savan Foods sweet,
are you walking in with a Safeway hat?

Speaker 3 (01:24:36):
You read the room? Probably not?

Speaker 4 (01:24:38):
Okay? Well then if it's a Moulsen Sweet, yeah, beer only.

Speaker 3 (01:24:42):
There's a lot of media members that would like to
go to that save on suite.

Speaker 4 (01:24:46):
Oh, we know a lot of them.

Speaker 3 (01:24:48):
This is unsigned. Sign your text and emails. Please, we
want to give you credit. But is it just me
or does it feel like these clowns are making the
same mistake as they did with Vertannan. They are rushing Coots.
He should be in junior and dominating. Well, first of all,
it's a completely different regime, so you can't really say
that making the same mistake. It's nobody is here from

(01:25:10):
the people that were here that drafted and then developed
Jake Vertannan. It's also a different player. You can't lump
the two players together. I mean, everybody develops differently in
the National Hockey League, so I don't think you can
necessarily draw a parallel line. And third, again, this has
been a great training camp and preseason for Braden Coots.
Everything Drant said in our first hour glowing about him

(01:25:31):
is great. This this spot he's getting tonight alongside Cain
and Lkaramaki. That's all great. It's way too early to
say they're rushing him. You might go back tomorrow, you
might get cut tomorrow and go back to Seattle. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:25:43):
No, And you know it's a good story. But he
hasn't played any games yet in the regular season. We're
still in the middle of camp exactly. We're still in
the middle of camp. But I do agree with him. Boy,
do they make a mistake put yeah, McCann and vertann
in line up at nineteen Yep, massive mistake?

Speaker 3 (01:25:58):
Is it just me?

Speaker 4 (01:25:58):
But EP forty doesn't need score point for it to
be success tonight. He has to look dominant, especially against
the Crack and B team and new s Nick.

Speaker 3 (01:26:07):
Yeah. So this goes back to what I was talking
about earlier. You don't believe Peterson. We can read into
anything Petterson does tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:26:14):
So if you you want no, But I'm telling you,
if he is pointless against a crack and B team
tonight and we come in here on Monday, there will
be people saying there will be submissions for is it
just me on Monday bringing that up? I can guarantee it.
I just need signs that he's going back to ye.

Speaker 3 (01:26:33):
But so what does that mean? Signs like skating's there,
His hockey stance is there, you know what his his
his effort level is there. But if all that's there,
should that not lead to a point against the crack
and B team? I think it should. Uh. This is
from car paid to Chris. You were ripping Apple TV
earlier in the White Cat Is it just me? But
has anybody told Dollywall that the JAS game tonight is

(01:26:54):
an Apple TV exclusive?

Speaker 4 (01:26:55):
What do you mean it's not?

Speaker 3 (01:26:57):
No, you can't watch the J's tonight because it's on
Apple TV.

Speaker 4 (01:27:01):
I'm going to beat the Lines game anyway. Yes, so
you don't buy the Vancouver White Caps. The other night,
I spent a half an hour trying to find the
game on TV. I couldn't find it. It's ludicrous. The
playoffs around the corner. This is one of the best
teams in franchise history for the MLFS, and I'm spending
half an hour trying to find the games on TV.
It's a disaster. The TV coverage is horrible and you

(01:27:21):
know what, the white Caps, this is a mess. You
can't even get people in the Lower Mainland and the
rest of British Columbia to know where the white Caps
games are. They're missing an opportunity to hit so many
people in the province because I have no idea where
the games are.

Speaker 3 (01:27:36):
And again, it's not a white Caps thing. This is
an MLS decision, So I don't care. You're right, right
and look at it. I think it was at the
beginning of this season the Athletic did an article and
they talked about how there's owners grumbling in the MLS about, oh,
did we make a mistake with this deal. I don't
think they should have gone fully to a streamer like that,
Like look at the MLB tonight. The MLB has games

(01:27:59):
tonight exclusively on Apple once a week. That is where
you can find them. I'm okay with that. The MLS
I think went too far and you can say it's
hurting them and at the same time, it's the white
Caps are selling out.

Speaker 4 (01:28:10):
I'm so excited about this team. I agree, I want
to watch every game. Uh P, Surrey Troy wins the
door off and Cole left.

Speaker 3 (01:28:18):
We already read that you read, ok no P.

Speaker 4 (01:28:21):
Surrey Troy is a good guy, he sends in submissions.
I didn't want to miss him. Our final segment of
the week is coming up next. We have a couple
of photos to get to and we'll wrap up the
poll question at least for the TV part of the
show as well.

Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
This is Donnie and dolling the team on check as
we continue to get maybe tonight the first Rogers Arena
preseason game of the year. Maybe we'll hear Patrick Canandezn't
Born to Be Alive played tonight during the Canucks game.

(01:28:53):
If it is, I know our Donnian DOLLI viewers and
listeners will report back to us over the weekend. It
will be able to read it. I was flipping stations
and you heard the song.

Speaker 4 (01:29:03):
Not I was flipping on FM and I heard the
song and it was a wonderful, glorious.

Speaker 3 (01:29:08):
A viewer of ours sent me an unbelievable Patrick Carnando's
T shirt that I will wear at some point on
the show. Time now to wrap up the waddling dog
pole question, Yeah you knew him? Nuts experience one of
Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep sip stock up all in one.
Legendary spot comes s ince day at the dog today.
All right, the wattling dog poll question, Nina, get her up.

Speaker 4 (01:29:30):
It is the witch Canucks player intrigues you the most. Tonight,
Coots is leading at forty eight percent, but not far
behind is Eliash Petterson at thirty five. Apparently Ryan needs
nine points from Peterson tonight to be satisfied with his
effort six and thirty nine votes.

Speaker 3 (01:29:47):
We will be talking about this subject on Monday. I
can promise you that.

Speaker 4 (01:29:50):
He could get zero points tonight, but if he does
a lot of good things, I'm okay with him.

Speaker 3 (01:29:54):
Okay, we'll see you know, Donnie, we be calling him
eleven six the whole nine yards. Okay, you got a birthday, Ricky.

Speaker 4 (01:30:00):
Happy birthday to Nolan, huge fan of the show. Even
got his mom watching the show. The mom loves the show.
Kim so did his Happy birthday to Nolan, big fan
of the show, and this is from his mom. Kim,
have a good one, all of you, and Nolan sent.

Speaker 3 (01:30:13):
Us a photo as well. Okay. It says here, just
got back home from a two week trip into Japan
and took a photo with your gear on in a
bamboo forest. How about that tamboo forest? That is unbelievable.
So thank you Nolan for the photo, and happy birthday
to you as well. Second photo we've got here, This
is from Kevin and Langley. This goes back to something

(01:30:34):
we talked about yesterday. Two wires, too many wires. Somebody
sent us a photo with too many wires. I can't
remember what I apologize. Too many wires, Kevin says. This
is how it's done. Look at his TV. No wires, okay,
no wires dangling down. He's got the wires in behind.
Looks great.

Speaker 4 (01:30:48):
So everybody that's got their TV like this, Yes, and
he's got wires.

Speaker 3 (01:30:52):
This is the way to do it.

Speaker 4 (01:30:54):
Kevin and Langley.

Speaker 3 (01:30:55):
Yeah, spot on, looking good, spot On. One final photo
here that we have. This is from our Good pal
Oil viewer of the program. This is from Joey Joey
Hanson on Twitter. He tweeted this to us, come up,
came upstairs from working in my office.

Speaker 4 (01:31:11):
Joey, I love Joey.

Speaker 3 (01:31:12):
Joey's a great guy and discovered a meeting of the
dom the Thomas Strants Fan Club checking out an episode
of Donnie and Dolly. For those on the podcast, it's
his two dogs listening and watching Trance on the show
earlier today. The dogs are the only people that can
understand drands exactly. First of all, Joey's good, good, pall
of ours. He's big supporter of ours. I love them,
and the dogs are beautiful.

Speaker 4 (01:31:33):
Look at that awesome look at their little bed, comfy, warm,
all that stuff. Treat your dogs right, treat not no,
you are right, No, you're I'm your dogs. And absolutely
make sure they have enough food, shelter, clothing, all that stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:31:47):
Absolutely again. Busy weekend ahead, Lions tonight, Canucks tonight, white

I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before.
