We're back.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
We're back. I couldn't a couple of weeks vacations.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
I couldn't sleep last night, up all night. That's how
excited I was to get back working with you and Ryan.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
We were gone. We've been gone. Since early July. And
this is what happens to me, is that for the
last two or three weeks, and I usually get up
around six thirty. I am I can't. I couldn't imagine
myself getting up. I'm rolling out of bed at ten,
ten thirty, eleven o'clock. This is not gonna happen. No,
(01:29):
there's no way I could do. Alarm goes off today,
no problem at all, looking forward to coming back and
starting a new season of Donnie Dolling.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Well, one thing didn't change down traffic one hour to
get here today. Yeah, the tunnel in the tunnel. When
are they going to start hitting? When are they going
to train? When are they going to fix the tunnel?
Speaker 3 (01:48):
When? Fairly soon?
Speaker 6 (01:50):
I think?
Speaker 3 (01:51):
So there's that. Okay, So let me just say this
before we get into what's happening with our show. That
Jake Milford ornament going on as we speak at Northew
Golf and Country Club, the unofficial start to the Canock season,
LEAs Petterson has spoken to the media. So we're gonna
we're gonna show some clips, at least one clip from that,
(02:14):
and there's some information there that we'll talk about later on. Interesting,
very very interesting. Now, as for our show, I tweeted out,
what was it right? How are you Ryan?
Speaker 7 (02:24):
Now?
Speaker 3 (02:24):
By the way, how is your son?
Speaker 5 (02:26):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Yeah? Go anywhere?
Speaker 8 (02:30):
No, I didn't do a ton, to be honest. A
lot of local stuff went through sees for a little
bit other than that, water parks, slides, parks.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
But it's interesting you went to water parks slide and
you didn't take it. I didn't by yourself. Yeah, yeah
that's true. And I know you went to Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Secrews, my first secrews. Yeah, got that done?
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Well?
Speaker 5 (02:50):
You had the big you went down the biggest excursion.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Oh yeah, yeah, all over Europe. Yeah, just an amazing gallivant.
I would say Italy, just Austria. But but I'll tell
you something for the lot well, gosh, going way back,
I've heard from several National Hockey League players. If you're
ever in the area, which I kind of was. We
(03:14):
kind of were, don't pass up Prague ten out of ten?
Did you call Peter Nedvet I did. We had a bearding.
It's just very different. It makes me want to go to,
you know, further east in Europe. It's just absolutely fabulous. Munich.
We went to oh look at this. It's just not real. Yeah, yeah,
(03:38):
it must be nice. You save up and you work hard,
you can go to Europe. Okay, sure, there's your lesson
right there.
Speaker 8 (03:45):
And not just free loading all the water parks in
the municipalities.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah, surprised it wasn't on the news. Okay, Donnie and
Dolly I again tweeted this out, but it was a
couple of weeks ago. Yeah about some changes to the show. Yeah,
it's not a big deal at least. I don't think
it's a big deal. In fact, it's probably good. It's
probably good for the viewers and listeners out there. I'm
nine hundred years old, all right, I'm eight hundred. Yeah,
(04:12):
but I'm ahead of you. Okay, I know, I know.
This is all it is, folks. I'm going to a
four day work week. I'll be taking three day weekends Friday.
You and Ryan will be in charge, will do the show.
Not that I'm in charge right now, but you guys
will be handling the hosting duties. You deserve it.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
You're a legend in the market. And I go back
to the mid nineteen nineties, Fred Lattermo, one of the
greatest DJs in Vancouver, history was doing exactly what you're doing.
He had Fridays off and I work with Fred at
KISSFM many the late great Fred Latimo. My goodness, what
a talent. He was one of the greatest DJs in Vancouver.
(04:53):
He did that in the mid nineties. So you got it.
Friday's off. Every weekend's a long weekend for Dawn.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
You deserve it. Thank you. I appreciate that. And it's
not that I don't enjoy doing this show. I did
mention the six thirty wake up call.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Well, it.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Can be a little bit difficult at times, but it's
and then you know, you're at an age where it's
a grind. Yeah, you want to spend more time with
the people you care about. There's only so much timeline.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
And don people don't realize this, and I get a
lot of this. Oh you guys got a two hour show?
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 4 (05:28):
You and I get in here at seven thirty in
the morning and then we go home. The grind is real.
We don't cheat, we don't cheat on effort, we don't
cheat on homework. And you know what, it's a grind.
It's a grind. And keep in.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Mind that most people out there grind. The majority of.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
People do grind, don but we're getting up there in
age and people don't understand the grind. It's not a
two hour show. It's many hours before and it's many
many hours after.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
And then there's the traffic. Yeah, two hours every day
in a car. Okay, where do we well, Chris, we
missed so much when we were released. We didn't talk
about what went on in the summer. But I want
to start here because I don't want to forget about
this and just I know we've got guests from TSN
(06:20):
and Sports Net. I just want to mention something that
doesn't get mentioned at all on the so called national networks.
They covered the w NBA more than they cover the
Man couple lacrosse. You know the history with this, Canada's
national sport, Canada's national summer sport, a trophy that goes
(06:41):
back years and years and years and years, great tradition.
Just nothing. Man Cup Game three tonight Queen's Park Arena,
Salmon Belly is up to nothing on six nations. The
West is won just one of the last seventeen men Cups.
It was the Shamrocks who won the last time for
a Western team. Winning at the last time twenty fifteen.
So the Salmon Bellies of New West up to nothing
(07:05):
on Six Nations Game three tonight Queen's Park Arena. I
don't know if you've seen any of the pitchers on Twitter.
Sold out, boy, the crowded sold out, absolutely fantastic sold out.
And you know Six Nations they travel, so they get
that day rest between Game two and three. Maybe a
little helped them. That series is not over, but things
are looking good for New West.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
Donny News looking for their first Man Cup in thirty
four years. The GM, Ray Porcelado, I went to school
with him back and he's a news guy New s
Secondary School.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
I was, he says, you didn't just Ray, I was
in grade twelve.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Ray was in grade eleven. Now he's the GM of
the Salmon Bellies.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Look for you often. Why are you laughing? He's a
local guy from New West who's the GM of the
salmon laughing at the fact that but you just said
you went to school.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
I went to school at Barny. God it took me
eight years, but I barrety got past grade twelve. But listen,
Ray Porcelado, the GM in the New West of the
Salmon Bellies. Great guy went to school with him back
in New West. It's just so nice that the New
West GM is from New West. Ray go get that cup,
Go get that cup.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
So all the best to everybody in the world of lacrosse,
and the Salmonbilly is up to nothing on six Nations again.
I'll say it. Game three tonight. Queens Park Arena put.
They don't even mention the scores when I watched the
They don't care. They don't care.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
It's the maple Leafs sign a fourth line guy that
said it's the top story.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
They care more about what's going down south versus East
and West.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
One final thing, Donnie, if you can name me and
you name other arenas in Vancouver, if you can name
me another arena in Vancouver other than Queen's Park that
has that history ninety plus years the Salmon Belly has
been playing there, Ernie Punch McLean. You go into Queens
Park even today, you smell the history. Its just a beautiful,
(08:48):
beautiful arena, Donnie. It's it's it's You can't name another
arena and.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
The only one that's close in Vancouver to me is Caarsdale.
They're still standing up the Agrid to some extent. Egg
Ice is there, but Queen's Park has the history of
lacrosse and hockey cockets. It's just something special. You haven't
been there, folks. It's worth it just to go there. Oh,
it's so beautiful just to see the building. Okay, okay,
(09:15):
where do we start here when it comes to a
hockey Well, let's let's do. I mentioned the Milford the
golf tournament going on the unofficial start to the Canock season. Uh,
the Conock prospects are going to play Seattle's prospects down
in Washington State. I believe that's next week. Training camp
opens Thursday September for the Cannocks. Training camp opens Thursday,
(09:39):
September eighteenth in Penticton. That beautiful arena, South Okanagan Sports
Center just just fabulous. And if you start saving now,
you might be able to afford to go to one
of the practices, one of the scrimmages if you start
saving now.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
So are you telling me people got to pay now
to go see scream?
Speaker 3 (10:00):
We just canucks thirteen dollars for practices for the Thursday
Friday practices, six to fifty six dollars and fifty cents
on the Sunday Saturdays scrimmaged forty dollars? Why you're taking on?
Do we no? I know you were upset about the
cirk that Henderson was all, do you know what if
there's a charity component in all of this?
Speaker 8 (10:21):
Well, so this is two years in a row, right
because last year in Penticton was thirty two dollars, this
year is forty. In both those press releases, there was
never a mention of the Canucks for Kids conty or
or more importantly, like Daniel Wagner passed it the Blue List.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
He wrote an article I'm blanking on the year, but
one of the years.
Speaker 8 (10:38):
It's said specifically, I believe the tickets are five bucks
and all the proceeds were going to the minor hockey
associations in that neck of the woods, whether Victoria or
something wherever it was.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
That's how it should be. And for these people.
Speaker 8 (10:51):
I had people reply to me and say, oh, it's
but it's Penticton's doing. They're they're charging and they're the
then the Canucks cover those costs. Like whatever it is
it is, we're taking your product.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
You know.
Speaker 5 (11:01):
Amar Doman goes to kamlops every year with the BC Lions.
Speaker 8 (11:04):
You know how much it costs anybody to see anything
the Lion's doing kamlops nothing zero.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
That's the way it used to be with the Canucks.
I know I'm not like an old man saying that, but.
Speaker 8 (11:13):
It's just this organization. What they do for the Canucks,
kid for kids fun is amazing. Beyond that, they the
the way they take the brand in the community and
then throw a bill right next to everything is just ridiculous.
Forty it's just screen.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Caps growing up wrong, the caps going up ray.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
It's a billion dollar franchise. If it costs you too
much to write it, get out of it.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Ryan. You know what the seats about it? You've been
going on. I know, I'm gonna play Devil's advocate here.
You've been going on and off, Yeah with that shot
that I tweeted out last week, But you've been going
on and on about the new seats h riders arena, yes,
and the new black seats, cushioning yes, cup holders beautiful,
(11:56):
a little bit wider, I believe, Yeah, certainly anyway, now
they've got them, and this just I was at Roger's
Arena last week. I got in the building to let
me take a shot or two and tweet it.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
Out and then they kicked you.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
And then they said, who are you? What the hell
is this guy doing here? And out I went. But
I managed to get this. Uh, I managed to get
this picture. They got to pay for these, They got
so forty bucks a shot.
Speaker 8 (12:17):
Yeah, talk to a season ticket holder and let them
tell you how much they've had to pay extra.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
They keep paying it. Nobody's forcing them to buy season tickets.
Speaker 5 (12:29):
But the scrimmage thing is ridiculous. Scrimmage.
Speaker 8 (12:32):
It's not even hitting ready that you can go see
an abbage for Canucks game, a game for cheaper than
a scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
That's disgusting. Here's what I don't get. And I'm not
a businessman. That's why I'm working with you, you know,
and and Rick and Derek and everybody else here. Yeah,
but what I don't understand is this, Like, wouldn't it
help your business more to give people a gift? Here
you go, No, they don't care to practice. You have
to see your heroes for free. They do a scrimmage.
(13:00):
You get to see your heroes. And I'm talking about
the kids out there. Yep. They get to see your
your heroes for for nothing. And that promotes your product.
Are you agreeing or not?
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Especially when you go out of town and there's a
that's the thing that there's a kid in pentict saying, hey, Dad,
let's go watch the Canucks scrimmage. Oh, but son, it's
gonna cost one hundred two hundred bucks.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
What I I don't get that. Yeah, And I just
think that. And these are people that are in Penticton
that they don't they're gonna they can't just drive to
a game, you know, go see the Habs play in January? Right, No,
this is your maybe you're probably your one chance to
see him. And I it's it's it's too bad. It's
like that. But you know what I say, I just
think that that good will And again I'm not a businessman,
(13:45):
that good will would go further to improving your financial
fortunes than charging for you. They don't care.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
And right, why are you feeling sorry for season ticket holders?
They can a afford it, be there doing it? Yeah,
why did You're right?
Speaker 5 (14:01):
You're right?
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Why does the father you're right?
Speaker 5 (14:03):
I shouldn't You're right, you're right.
Speaker 8 (14:05):
And it's the same thing I had people respond to me,
going watch it'll be sold out be sold out, and
you're right, so maybe all for nothing.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
I maybe shouldn't even say anything, because what do you
mean about this feeling sorry for.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
She said, Oh, I go, she's a ticket holder. Hey there,
they could not do it. You're right, they could walk away. Yeah,
this team has had one good year in the last
fourteen yep, and they keep selling the ring.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
I know you're right. That's why the owner does this, And.
Speaker 8 (14:28):
That's part of why it bothers me because I think
that's what the akulinis take for granted.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
They take it for granted. It's like, hey, that's another
issue though. There's just forty dollars in Pittick right training.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
And the biggest thing is what Rick brought up.
Speaker 8 (14:41):
I think of that that family or the mother and
the father wanting.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
To take their their kid.
Speaker 8 (14:47):
Yes, the one time because they can't come down here
the one time.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
Wow, they're coming to us.
Speaker 8 (14:53):
Oh yeah, but it's gonna be eighty bucks to go
watch them skate around with the puck playing against each other.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Come on, man, that's gross. Yeah, that is gross. Well,
and we'll have the discussion on the eighteenth as well well,
probably probably fifty the scrimmage takes place on the Saturday.
But yea, so maybe we won't. Okay, we're at a
time here for this one, Yeah, for this segment, So
we're going to talk some more about the connection the
(15:19):
next segment. By the way, I don't know if you
have time, but that Sunday night football game, the whole
NFL Week Week one was I mean, I mean it
started with somebody spitting on somebody. Yeah, you know, and
you know, just the Jalen Carter incident. I'm talking about
Dak Prescott.
Speaker 5 (15:35):
But there was a second spinner.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
Well, well, Jalen Carter was actually the second spinner. You're
right when you when you think about it, you know,
the NFL you know, in the boardroom, I know it's awful.
They're probably it's okay.
Speaker 8 (15:51):
Well, to be honest, it probably made that game a
whole lot closer. Yeah as well, Yeah because if Jalen Carters. Yeah,
the game was good too. I was impressed with the
Chargers and what they are up to in Brazil against
the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Okay, so NFL Week one was just fabulous. We've got
to talk about the Lions too, and there oh, BC
Lions are having all sorts of trouble, so it's right
lions as of a week one. Okay, here's what's coming
up on the show, DTMC is it just me? Coming
up in the eleven o'clock hour as always, Elliott Friedman,
he's going to join us just after eleven o'clock. And
(16:24):
as you know, we pay Elliott to come on this show,
but you can take it from here.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
He sends the money we give him to the Canucks
Kids for Fun, which is ECTS for Kids Fun, the
Canucks for Kids Fun, and so Elliott sends our money
there and check TV has done the same.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
Yeah, he's matched it. They matched it. So that's yeah,
really really good thinking of the community. Good stuff. Big
Rye the Twitter guy coming up later this hour. Look
who's going to join us at the bottom of the hour,
Moach New S guy, Bob or Janovic. Hey, he's had
both the salmon bellies. Bob's from New West like you.
But he's going to talk about those beach lions and
(17:05):
and about the Cannocks. The other thing Moche can talk about.
He's a little bit younger than me. We talk about
Ken Dryden passing is away as well. It was just
awful to hear awful news we'll introduce the poll question.
Talk more about the Cannocks next. Thanks for rejoining us, folks,
Donnie Dolly the.
Speaker 7 (17:21):
Team check Donnie and Dolly the team is supported by
Abelauctions dot ca A.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
Closing your business. We can help.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
The amount of people in our bayside oceanfront resort inbox.
Upset it you for calling what we do a grind.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
Okay, see this is it's in the thousands. No, okay again,
what do you want me to say? We don't work
two hours a day. We go home, we work the phones.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
We text, get on sites.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
Yeah, we get up at six in the morning and
we I start texting agents back east. Give me in full,
give me scoops and we watch a Canucks game. And
then after we got to spend two hours, you know,
dissecting the Canucks game.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
Come on. Also a lot of people upset that we
didn't come through with the Donnie and Delly show number
one tradition each and every year. Technical difficulties. Yeah, so far,
so far, so good. Derek, good stuff, Ryan, good stuff.
Speaker 5 (18:29):
Like why would you say that?
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Yeah, why would you mention that out loud? I just
let it let it be what it is.
Speaker 5 (18:36):
Hold on is there a no hitter somewhere you could
break up right now to you.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
The voice of the people right now now. Okay, So
now that you said that, if any early news show,
and we've had some technical difficulties in the past, oftentimes
show number one each season, I forgot.
Speaker 8 (18:52):
I posted the clip to our Twitter a couple of
weeks ago. This time last year, in our first show,
Rick unplugged his microphone.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
I remember that, so me remember that it's still a
possibility things can happen.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
But if anything happens, now it's completely on you.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Yeah. The leader responsibility pole question. Let's let's let's go there. Yeah,
it's our waddling dog pole question experience, one of Victoria's
iconic destinations, sleep, sip, and stock up all in one
legendary spot. Come sit and stay at the dog today.
And we can't thank waddling Dog enough for jumping on
(19:29):
board again with our show.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
We cannot Ryan get her up. The waddling dog pop
pole question. Here it is, And I knew this is
gonna be. I screwed up the waddling dog. Brandon's gonna
get mad.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
Wattling dog.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Waddling dog pole question. There it is at least technical difficulty. Okay,
but I might need.
Speaker 8 (19:49):
A counter like a ding every time he screws it up,
because I know it's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
It's gonna happen to me too. Yeah, here we go.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
All least Patterson said today he gained thirteen pounds in
the off season. Was his strength his biggest issue last season?
Yes or no? And right now, look at this. Fifty
nine percent say no, forty two percent say yes. Look
at that four hundred and ninety four votes already. We
just posted her up. So there you go.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
And you saw shots of him with a gut a
smoke and appear. Hey, I'll tell you one thing.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
I gained about three or four pounds on that secruse buffet.
Oh donny, non mi tenison with you. I've never had
that many desserts in my life. It's just it's painful. Ah,
stop it, I you know, I get that. Hey, that's
in Los Angeles at San Pedro.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Yeah, well you know what I'm seeing here? What is
you supporting the American account? Stop it. I had to
go to LA it was a four night cruise, right,
get it off. Get that off.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Anyways, listen, I gained pounds on the over the summer.
But this ellis Petterson thing, Donnie. His issue isn't weight.
He had one hundred and two points three years ago
at less weight. He had eighty two to ninety two
points at less weight. His issue is between the ears.
You heard Rick Talkett say a million times last year.
(21:17):
He's got practice habit issues, off season training issues. His
issues are not weight. He has scored one hundred plus
points in this league at lighter weight. Don Weight is
not the issue with this kid. It's mental between the ears.
Talktt told you all last year what his issues were,
(21:38):
and it's not weight. Talktt never mentioned weight once with Peterson.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
Well, you couldn't be more wrong, ah, And I agree
with you. There is some there obviously is something going
on between the years. And I get that, and that
I like. For one thing, I think one of his
biggest problems is that out of nowhere. Well, first of all,
moving the feet. I talked about that. But the other,
the thing that bothers me the most is something so simple,
(22:04):
his reluctance to shoot. Like he's got a fabulous shot
and it's just all of a sudden, he doesn't want
to shoot, like, let's start there. You know, he doesn't
even have to move his feet to do. What's that
got to do with the weight? Well, well, no, I
I here's the thing. That's what I mean. You talk
about him getting one hundred plus points at a lesser weight,
(22:25):
and I'm joking about the gut and the beer and
the smoke, and I'm sure the weight he gained is good. Okay?
Is it possible, though, Rick? The league has figured him
out since then, and that he gets knocked off his
feet very easily. He needs to improve his core needs
and hopefully he's done that the right way. Needs to
improve his core, needs to improve his strength. I think
(22:46):
this is it appears to be a step in the
right direction and then from there, move your feet, take
some more shots. But I think the league has figured
this guy out to an extent and he's got If
indeed the weight he gained his good weight, then then
it's a step in the right direction. But I think
(23:08):
you always have to evolve as a player. All the
great ones did because because people figure you out after
it's harder. In the NHL, it's hard. He needed to
improve his strength, and you know the way gain is now.
Look having said that, I realized that there has been
there an't Stan smeals like this. Examples of this in
the past where player a player loses or gains weight,
(23:31):
goes against his body type and things don't always go well.
But I think it is something he had to do.
So I'll disagree with you there. I you know, stand
to be proven wrong that that that's fine, But I
think it's something he had to do.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
The greatest thing he said today Peterson and Jake Milford
this morning at the golf tournament was I was healthy.
I had no issues training unlike last summer.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
He was.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
He is coming into camp, He's coming into Vancouver healthy.
That wasn't the case last year. I'm a expecting a
big year from Petterson, just expecting him to take off.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
So LEAs Petterson spoke to the media today at the
Milford Golf Tournament, which is out at the North Few
Golf country Club, beautiful facility. We got that audio right,
We got it, okay, So how does it start? I
can't remember yea, even though I told you about the clip.
Speaker 8 (24:21):
It starts by him addressing the uh we added pounds, there.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
You go, there you go. I guess ep forty on
the six kilos. He called it thirteen or so pounds.
Speaker 9 (24:32):
Well, I added the six kilos, so you can add
that to.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Whatever headline.
Speaker 10 (24:40):
How do you think that's gonna help you?
Speaker 1 (24:41):
No, Joses said, I know. I feel good.
Speaker 9 (24:43):
It's been a long, long summer, so I just tried
to add some muscles and be ready to be myself
again out there, and and I feel confidence that I will.
Speaker 10 (24:55):
With the early skates.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
Are you feeling more like yourself? Yeah, I feel good.
Speaker 9 (24:59):
It's been had a long summer of training and so
it's been good.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
There you go, there you go, there you go.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
And he looks like in a way better frame of
mind on he than twelve months ago. Coming in last year,
he just looks a whole lot better.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
A little thicker.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
Yeah, I thought.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
I thought he looked a little bigger, and again in
a positive way. Whenever you saw those snippets of video
on Twitter whatever social media in the off season from Sweden.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
Yeah, and no, JT. Miller, there's no drama, none of
this stuff. Last year, he gets a fresh start.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
It's it's a it's a it'd be nice if he
had a fresh start with JT. Miller still in the line. Well, honestly, yeah,
I agree. J T.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
Miller got traded and now they're stuck at center because
these two couldn't get along done. Think about it, these
guys spent all summer trying to get a second line center.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
They couldn't do it. Okay, have we got time to
so you know what, I want to spend more time
with the Canucks lineup. They're projected lineup. So let's let's
do this first and then we'll take a break and
get the moch Meanwhile, do some business here Able Auctions again,

want to be using those hands as what is that.
Do you sit on that? Or I don't get it.
I don't know is it? Is it a chair or
is it some sort of decoration? Can you ask Jeremy.
Speaker 8 (26:49):
Yeah, I'll get Jeremy and I'll see if it's up
for grabs. Bring upside down spider we could bring. I'd
love if that is a chair, if you could do that.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
It looks like an upside down browns or it looks
like hands.

It's a pair of hands. Well, what is it hands?

Bomber Janovich, moch how's it going?
Speaker 10 (29:38):
What's up? Gentlemen? Speaking of high school?
Speaker 6 (29:41):
There you go?
Speaker 4 (29:43):
Oh, oh my god, is that my grade eight?
Speaker 3 (29:48):
What is that?
Speaker 10 (29:49):
That's I think it's like your grade ten. Well, you
were in grade eight for four years, so.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Could the haircut back then?
Speaker 4 (29:55):
You didn't get a haircut, you just parents just cut
it right from the top.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
Donnie, that's it. Apparently they used the bowl. What the
where'd you find that picture? O?
Speaker 10 (30:04):
Hey, I got sources, baby, I got source.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
Take it down, Take it down. Look at that. Sure
you got on mode. You've been out to Queen's Park.
Speaker 10 (30:11):
Yeah, actually I did. I got out for the Victoria
series for a game. And uh, I believe Dolly Wall
and I are going to the game.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
Oh, I can't go, Moji. I was gonna call you.
I got stuff popped up. I'm sorry. I can't go.
I got stuff pupped up, popped up.
Speaker 10 (30:28):
Okay, whatever, You're a big time I understand. Yeahs back
at work after a lengthy layoff.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Yea, yeah, we have next week off too. Just just
so you know, hey, moches for people who haven't been
out to I mean, I know it's sold out everything,
but if you haven't been out there, it's one of
the great sporting spectacles. Not everybody in this country respects it,
not everybody in the media, but it is one of
the great sporting spectacles out there.
Speaker 10 (30:52):
Yeah it is. I mean Man Cup. I remember going
as a kid to Queen's Park Arena and Terry Oime
and Wayne Goss combined for a goal that you know,
set a record and Salmon Belly is winning them. I
think it was their last Man Cup, or maybe their
second to last. But such a story tradition, and you
know that Barn in New Wes. I know, Donnie, it's
(31:13):
special to you and special to me. I grew up
watching the Salmon Bellies, watched up watched us watching the
New West, grew up watching the New West Ruins win
four consecutive Western Hockey League championships. There so a lot
of memories and just a lot of fun to head
back to New West and see a lot of familiar
faces as well. So should be entertaining tonight. Salmon Belly's
up to nothing, as they would say, Donnie trying to
(31:34):
get a stranglehold on the series tonight.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
If they go up to nothing, one of those great
playoff words nineteen ninety one, their last Man Cup championship.
We've delayed things long enough here, moje. Do you want
to talk about the Lions? Oh? What is going on?
And they've lost four of their last six Tuesday? They
can't hold on to late leads. What is going on
with that football team?
Speaker 10 (31:55):
Well, I mean, simply put, they got to figure something
out on defense, because the offense, I think I did
the math in the last six games. I think they're
averaging thirty four points a game and they're two and
four in those six games. So on the offensive side
of the ball, I don't really have any issues. I
don't think many people have issues, although there is one
thing that'll touch on in a second. But defensively, they've
(32:17):
got to figure something out because I mean, what thirty
one points in the second half against Ottawa Toronto, five
drives of over seventy yards or more. A lot of
people are pointing the finger of Mike Benavide is a
defensive coordinator, and you know he's going to take some meat.
That's part of the gig. But to his defense, last
game in Ottawa, there were two rookies starting in the secondary,
(32:37):
two second year players. The only veteran back there was
Jalen Edwards Cooper. So they're rather young, they're rather run
the secondary. But still, this is pro football. You got
to find a way to get the job done. And
right now, the Lion's on defense. It's just it's not working.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
But Bob, I see a lot of heat on Mike
Benavide's the defensive coordinator. Is it? Is it the defensive
coordinator or is it the lack of talent?
Speaker 10 (33:02):
It's one of the thing I think, you know, I
think it's a combination of everything. I'm not the type
of person to sit there and just blame one person.
I think it's, you know, trying to figure out a
scheme that allows these guys to play with confidence and aggression.
And you know, we were told this week that they
kind of dumb things down, and that was supposed to be.
That was supposed to allow them to play with a
(33:23):
lot more confidence and a lot more aggression. You know,
just go out there and play. Don't think well work
for the first half, but it didn't for the second.
But conversely, the players have to execute as well, right,
I mean, I'm not going to name names, but I'll
talk about positions on that last big play to Pimpleton. Yeah,
I don't understand how one of your safeties is in
trail technique rather than coming downhill to make a play
(33:46):
on the ball. So you know, it's on the players,
it's on the coaches, it's on everyone, and they got
to figure a way to get out of this mess.
Speaker 4 (33:51):
Defensively, if I was the offense, I'd be pissed. Nathan
Rourk's been great. They got the running backs leading the
league and rushing out one of the top receivers. The
offense thirty points a game. And I see the face
I see Nathan Work's face after those two losses, and
you just know, you know, you know, he's sitting there going, hey, guys,
(34:12):
I did enough to win.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
Well.
Speaker 10 (34:14):
If you could pull the audio from our postgame show,
he just said, I'm not going to say what I
really want to feel.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
There he goes.
Speaker 10 (34:21):
You know, he just he basically held the range back instead.
So yeah, I mean, like I said, the offense is
averaging thirty four points in the last six games. But
you know, this is a team game and sometimes you
got to pick up the other unit. Give you an
example in that game against Ottawa, they had an opportunity
to close out the game with a couple of first downs.
They didn't. They ran the ball on second down, they
(34:42):
got stuffed, they try the field goal. Of course we
know what happens there. But you have an opportunity there
to win, right, You have an opportunity to basically go
out and clinch the game, and you didn't do it. Now, yeah,
you're asking your offense a lot. I mean, they're aready
put up a whole bunch of points on the board,
But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.
And that's the one qualm that I'll have with this team.
(35:02):
I guess the one issue in this pertains to the
offense as well. They've got to develop a killer instinct
when they have teams down burying right and right now,
they're not and that's coming back to haunt them.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Yeah, talk to the Baltimore Ravens about that, Hey moj
Canucks Milford Tournament starts to the unofficial start to the season.
Eleas Patterson telling the media he's gained thirteen plus pounds
six kilos according to him, Is that going to help?
Speaker 10 (35:31):
I hope. So, I just hope that he's you know,
in great shape and ready to go right, because as
a professional athlete, if you come into training camp, I
don't care what sport it is, football, hockey, whatever, basketball, baseball.
If you come into the preseason and you're not in shape,
(35:52):
you're behind the eight ball all year long. I'm sorry
you are. I mean, look at the Goda Joshua last year.
A lot of times, you know, it leads into an
injury and the next thing you know, now you're you're
out even significantly longer. That's the one thing I think,
you know, you owe it to yourself, you owe it
to your organization to come into camp in the best
peak physical condition. That's been an issue, I guess for
the last couple of years. This year, if he's in
(36:14):
great shape, that's awesome because I think Canuck fans want
to see the best out of Elias Patterson.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
Friday, Ottawa at the BC Lions. You will have the
call on and I still have trouble saying this. I
SEVENW tell me that since the change has been made,
there's no way you haven't said KNW nine eighty.
Speaker 10 (36:35):
Yeah, No, I haven't said CNW nine eighty. Want to
know why because I have this Q card that sits
right in front of me that I read off of
all the time. Yeah, and that says KNW seven thirty.
So technically I'm cheating.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Yeah, I've got those two and it doesn't help at all.
Moj Yeah, you helped us out on day one of
our return. We can't thank you enough, you know what.
Speaker 10 (36:53):
Look forward to helping you guys a lot more in
dolliwall So you're not coming tonight.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
I can't popped up this morning. I was going to
call you after this show. But anyways, Donnie, I can't go.
Maybe game four maybe game right?
Speaker 3 (37:06):
No, I got stuff, I got stuff, stuff popped up,
start cut cut, all right, let's have a great show,
all right, Bob the mom Jonovitch, it's a Lion's trying
to do something about bouncing back against the Ottawa Friday
at Busy Place, And again we'll remind you salmon belly.
Six Nations Tonight, Game three of the Man Cup, Queen's
(37:27):
Park Arena, Big Rye the quitter guys next, Tony delling
the team on check. No shortage of people in the
in box, wondering if we're going to talk about the
white cause, big ride of Twitter guy take it away.
Speaker 8 (37:48):
Yes, sir, yeah, we we We will get to them
in a second.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
First, And you were going to get Tom right off
the bat.
Speaker 8 (37:55):
But we have a billion pictures, right because you've been
off for six and a half and so we got
a lot, We got a lot of photos sent to us,
and I felt bad about this one viewer.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
Okay, this viewer's Trish.
Speaker 8 (38:09):
She sent us this photo the day after we went
on vacation. It's been sitting there since that time. Okay.
So Trish sent us this photo her and her family
on a Alaskan cruise, and so they took this pic
with a glacier and it caught arm somewhere in Alaska,
(38:30):
and so the photo is here with everybody. I'm trying
to do this on the fly.
Speaker 10 (38:37):
Here.
Speaker 8 (38:37):
Greg is the one in the D and D hat
in the back. She right in the middle there in
the white bucket, hat.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (38:43):
So there there's Greg with the white D and D
bucket hat. The entire family was there included. But Trish,
thank you for your email. Sorry we didn't get it
in before we were done our time off, but we
get it in now, and we're gonna make a pivot
here quickly, Rick, because there is another one we're gonna
get to. But I'm gonna do this now because it
ties into that last photo. Another couple that went to Alaska.
(39:06):
I know so many people that have gone to this
last the same way.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
Alaska crazy popular, very popular, very popular.
Speaker 5 (39:12):
And this, Rick, do you have the infot do you
want to do it?
Speaker 4 (39:14):
This is absolutely two of our favorites, Maureene and Bob.
They took the two picks from the Alaska cruise taken
in Glacier Bay. So Glacier Bay in the background there.
Marine and Bob go all over the world, they do,
and they take our stuff. Just huge fans and we're
huge fans of them.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
You know what. This is just a beautiful picture on
their sea crews to Alaska. Thanks to Marine and Bob
and Greg and Trish.
Speaker 8 (39:40):
Yeah, one last photo and this one is self serving
for Dolly Wall No, it's not. This is Kelly, my neighbor,
your neighbor, Kelly guy.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
He got us all shoes and I draw give to
you guys your shoes. You love them. Sketchers. He went
to Croatia.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
This is Mark rosque as Croatia and that's Kelly right
there and this second one. And he told me this
versus sketchers. He hasn't got him on. No, he's got
a Donning Dolly and he told me this. I ran
into him. We're walking the dogs the other day. This
is Christina Lake. He thinks that Christina Lakes the nicest
lake in British Columbia. Donny like he just said, it's
(40:20):
it's beautiful.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Really just absolutely Nelson Way. Yeah, that's it. That's it.
Speaker 4 (40:25):
So anyways, this is my neighbor, Kelly. He got his shoes,
all three of us, a brand new pair of shoes.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
All they're comfortable. Sketchers. Yeah, I just love them. Let
me just say this about these sketchers. Yeah, all these
Howie Long commercials.
Speaker 5 (40:38):
Yeah, the steps, the step step is we have Oh oh,
I will say.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
Oh, I'm an old man. I'm loving that they are.
They are like how he knows what he's taught and
he's a friend of the show. By the way, how
long he knows what he's talking about? Yeah, thank you, Kelly.
That's my neighbor.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
Just a couple of houses, a down, good guy.
Speaker 8 (40:58):
One thing I will say, uh, is you know it's
one of those things that you think, why wasn't this
invented a long time ago? Like who likes to bend down?
No matter rage, bend down and put your shoes on
and fix the back and oh it's now it's boom boom,
you're gone.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
These you step in. It's like earlier in this show
you're talking, you're talking about the grind. Now you can't
even tell your shirt kin shoes. I think it's it's stupid,
it's dumb. But these shoes, you're like the flash. They
kind of the shoe kind of sucks your foot in
a little bit. It's not loose.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
It's like you're going into two pillows. Why are they
not sponsoring there? I was gonna say, Okay, I'm working
on them. I'm working on killing. Get the sponsorship going.
Speaker 8 (41:42):
Let's go sketchers and again a million photos in the
Bayside Ocean Front Resort inbox.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
We'll get to them.
Speaker 8 (41:48):
We will get to them as the week progresses, we
got some time before our next six and a half one.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
Now can we get to the White cat well, So this.
Speaker 5 (41:55):
Is massive news.
Speaker 8 (41:56):
Of course, while we were off, rumored for quite a
while before made official back in early August, Thomas Mueller
White Caps signing the legend you could say that World
Cup champion, Uh, long time player with Bayern Munich. Of
course where funds of Davies'? Is that agreeing?
Speaker 3 (42:13):
I'm right with that team?
Speaker 5 (42:14):
Yeah, I know, yeah, you were you guys, you know what.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
That's why he actually came over to Vancouver. Taylor's around here.
Speaker 5 (42:21):
I'm out boom uh.
Speaker 8 (42:23):
This was quite the coup for the Vancouver white Caps
and a big deal was made while we were off.
He's played in two matches for the Caps, started one.
I want to show his goal. He's got He's got
the goal and it came, by the way in controversial
fashion in their last game. Because they've been off, the
white Caps have but his last goal in stoppage time
from the spot against Saint Louis. Saint Louis fans were
(42:44):
up in arms about this because they didn't think this
was a This should have been a foul and rightfully
show to be honest. Uh So he gets his first goal,
the crowd going nuts, back to back sold out crowds,
I believe it was back to back sold out crowds
for the white Caps, sold out being the lower Bowl
completely filled. Back to the map, and look at he's
social media darling. If you haven't been following along, he's
(43:05):
got a very popular Twitter and Instagram account.
Speaker 5 (43:07):
He does his own social media content. The way he
was welcomed scenes at the.
Speaker 8 (43:12):
Airport and then the next day with the press conference,
massive turnout for that's it really been. And again this
all on the heels of an amazing year for the
Caps before all of this, right, top of the league standings,
top of the Western Conference standings, high hopes, all that stuff.
Then you add this on top of it, and it
was really quite the storyline to develop over the summer
(43:35):
in Vancouver.
Speaker 3 (43:36):
Yeah, and keep in mind that he did score his
the first few moments of his first yeah, his first appearance,
Yeah was called back. But this is so great for
soccer fans here in that old guys like me and you,
I mean you remember the North American Soccer League and
acer Away Caps and they attracted players like Rudy Kroll
(43:56):
and Alan Ball legends in their their their country. Peter
Beer's the tread, Trevor y Mark Well, Peter Beersley went
on to become a legend in England. Where was that
with this team they did this particular edition of the
white Caps. Finally they get somebody like him. It's a
big big deal because players back in the old North America.
I know it sound like an old man here, I
(44:16):
don't care. Back in the old North American soccer leage days,
they got Georgie Best. You know, they got Trevor Francis,
guys to Pele Becken bar back in bar to come
to North American Socket League. Other franchises have done that
messy in Miami. Where was Vancouver they got? They got
somebody like this, It's a big, big deal. He's very likable.
He loves Vancouver. It's hard not to like him.
Speaker 4 (44:37):
And he's showing you every day with this social media
count that he loves Vancouver too, very very good sign.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
I'll say something else here, and it's not really fair,
but he speaks English and he spent a big part
and he speaks it well. And they've had some great
players here who don't or don't don't not comfortable with
the media, understandably. So this is this is for one thing,
but Twitter can I used to be in the chamber
of commerce for Vank. Yeah at the white Caps, he's
really doing your great job of selling not just the
white Caps but but the city. But the fact that
(45:05):
he can speak the language so well, it's it's a
big deal. Again, not fair to players or players of
the past who don't, but that that it makes a difference.
Speaker 8 (45:14):
When you mentioned the big clubs getting these big players,
he turned down l a f C. Bayern Munich and
l a f C are linked and he turned them
down to go And there's a.
Speaker 5 (45:25):
History here with Axels Schuster. The athletic did a big,
long piece.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
To do with that. Yeah, well I think so.
Speaker 8 (45:32):
But but it's just to have a player of his
magnitude and look at I know, the age is the age,
and you know, maybe his best soccers behind him all
that stuff, But to have a player of his caliber
choose Vancouver, that never it just didn't seem possible in
this in this new MLS any sport. Well yeah, but
in the MLS environment when you have a Miami and
(45:52):
you have the Las and you have a New York
and these big, big, big worldwide places that people can
go to to have a guy choose this spot.
Speaker 5 (46:02):
And again on the season, well that is a big thing,
you know.
Speaker 8 (46:07):
And and hearing by the way as well, Sorry Rick,
but Greg Kerfoot saying that they're having second thoughts about
selling the team now as well, maybe because he can
add another investor instead and keep the ownership group together.
Speaker 5 (46:18):
We've had all that stuff about hastings and potential stadium,
all of that stuff.
Speaker 8 (46:22):
It's just been such a change the dark we talked
about last season, guys with the white Caps potentially on
the move because of a sale and all of that.
The way it's flipped over the months of this season,
it's just been incredible. Back in action Saturday against Philadelphiaelphia.
Speaker 4 (46:37):
So the only thing I saw in this summer I
didn't like is that Mueller is the biggest signing in
the history of Vancouver pro sports. I'm sorry, but Pavel
Burray was. And the red tape, the intrigue, you know
that the facts of the game sheet from Russia, him
coming through the US, getting married, Brian Burke picking him
up in Seattle, pabble Bray I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
Worldwide, this was I get I'll give you a beret.
Speaker 4 (47:05):
I think Messi eight, I'd whether he worked out or not.
Getting that guy, Mark Messi and Vancouver was was huge too. Yeah,
you know, don.
Speaker 3 (47:14):
The moment of the signing was was arguably a bigger,
bigger deal. I'll give you that. It didn't work out obviously.
Yes with Messi. I've got Doug Flutie too. That was
a big deal here, big deal, big deal and he
performed very well.
Speaker 5 (47:27):
That's it for me.
Speaker 8 (47:28):
Big grab the Twitter guy, first edition done in the books.

(48:39):

hocket It Encounada thirty two Thoughts podcast. Elliott, thanks for
doing this, sir. How is your.
Speaker 6 (48:48):
Summer summer was great? Excellent? I'm sorry it's over. I
was your summers.
Speaker 3 (48:54):
Lovely, lovely, very very good. Now I was in Europe.
I believe you were as well. For another NHL media
tour in Milan ahead of the twenty twenty sixth Olympics.
What's set up for you there?
Speaker 6 (49:09):
I have to say that it's I walked around for
six hours. It was that was the highlight of the trip, really,
just like a six hour walk just walking around the city.
It's a beautiful city. You know the in typical Olympic
tradition over the last few years, Donnie, the rink is
not done yet. I remember in Sochi they were like
(49:31):
doing the finishing touches on it right before the Olympic
Games began, and it sounds like that tradition is going
to continue. There wasn't anything hugely newsworthy that came out
of that trip, I would say, but you know, it's
kind of like spring training in baseball, and you know,
everyone's in a great mood. Nobody hates you yet, and
(49:52):
it's always a great way to meet people and just
have a good conversation.
Speaker 3 (49:57):
And what's the focus in Vegas right now?
Speaker 6 (49:59):
Aliott, you know, same deal. Our interviews start later this
afternoon with Dustin Wolf and Matthew Nyes and they continue
over tomorrow and Wednesday. I don't know if anything hugely
newsworthy is going to come here. You know, Quinn Hughes
is representing the Canucks. I know that when Hughes spoke
(50:22):
to Ian McIntyre for his story last week, he kind
of indicated he was going to really limit how much
he talked about last year to him. It was in
the rearview mirror It's not something he wanted to continue discussing.
He wanted to move on and look forward to this year.
You know, we'll see, you know, the McDavid's not here obviously,
that's the most dominant story in the NHL right now.
(50:45):
You know, Marner, I think only is not doing interviews.
I think he's only doing some promo shoots. So we'll
see what we can ignite over the next three days.
Speaker 4 (50:55):
Elliott, last year this time you came on our show
and said, you know what, Canucks could win the Stanley.
Speaker 6 (51:00):
Cup and that's a good prediction.
Speaker 4 (51:03):
Yeah, that was your prediction. What is your feeling about
the Canucks going into the season.
Speaker 6 (51:10):
Well, Rick, it's been fun being a guest on this show.
You know, I just think that it's pretty obvious that
this year is all about, you know, just trying to
keep the noise down and just keeping the news to
the ice. Yeah, you know, as you look at it
as we come in this year, despite your best efforts
(51:32):
on Friday on the radio, there aren't a lot of
big contract debates going on this year, you know. I mean,
the huge thing obviously will be a big talking point,
but he can't even sign until next summer. So there's
not much you can really say about that. To me,
this year is all about the ice and you know
(51:53):
what happens on it. I think the storylines are obviously,
how does dem go? Look? You know, is he ready?
Is he ready to go? Is you stay healthy? Obviously
that's a huge start to their season. You know, what
do the Canucks do down the middle? Internally they think
they have a hole there, But if you don't have
a willing trade partner, I mean, the biggest thing that's
(52:14):
been a challenge across the league is that you only
really have one team they are saying starting this year,
saying they're not trying to get better, and that is Pittsburgh.
Other than that, everybody wants to compete, so there aren't
a lot of trade partners. And you know, I think
the other thing this year, Rick is that, you know,
there's a lot of talk about the playoff cap, but
(52:35):
that double retention thing that's going to really hurt teams
that are close to the cap. The fact that right
now you can't do double If you're going to do
a double retention, the second trade has to happen seventy
five days after the first one. So you know, I
think this year. This is a year where the Canucks
have to do their talking on the ice, and the
(52:56):
discussion has to be about them on the ice. I
think that all know that, you know, Bess or nobody
has to talk about that all year. That's settled, So
it's it's all about what do they do on the ice?
Speaker 4 (53:10):
Elliott that market for second line centers are ROSSI resigned
to Minnesota. Mason McTavish is still out there. Jack Roslivick
is still out there.
Speaker 3 (53:19):
What's going on?
Speaker 4 (53:20):
Like, I mean, Patrick Alvin tried really hard in August
to get a second line center, but there was no
dance partners. I mean, first of all, they're costly, it's
not cheap, and the Canucks don't have a ton of
cap space to get that second line center.
Speaker 6 (53:36):
Well, I think Rick a lot of it is what
we just talked about in our last answer. It's just
the fact that there's only one real seller. Yeah, I
mean how many teams out there right now? Do you
think if you have a number two center, Look how
hard they get, how sadly get how many teams are
looking to move one. And you know the other thing
too is the Canucks have made a lot of deals
you know, they started to build up their build try
(53:58):
to build back up their prospect a little bit. You know,
the Atmosford team had had a good run last year,
but you know, do they have a real top end
prospector pick that either they're gonna that someone's willing to take,
or that they want to move or both in a deal.
You know, I think right now, you know McTavish, I
(54:20):
don't think the Ducks want to trade them. I think
they want to sign them. I don't think they want
to trade them. But let's just do for argument sacreg
if the Ducks did want to trade McTavish, do you
think you guys have the hall that it's going to
take to get them. Okay, so it's not even you know,
worth discussing. You know, a guy like Jack Rosslovic, I
think you know, Toronto was looking at him. I think
(54:42):
they were looking at him potentially as a winger on
the number one line. I don't know that anybody sees
him as the number two center, right So you know, yeah,
that's not that's not the answer to your problem to
me right now, unless Rutherford Melvin pul is something out
of their heat that we're not seen. The answer to
(55:02):
that number two question is probably internal for a little while.
I mean, those guys are hard to find, they are
expensive to get. Look, you made a first round pick,
you drafted the center. It's an organizational need and that's
what you're going to do. The best way to solve
it is internally. But obviously that that's a few years away.
Speaker 4 (55:23):
You just watched Mitch Marner leave Toronto and now Connor
McDavid has he's not signing an extension in Edmonton.
Speaker 3 (55:31):
What is going on there? Elliott?
Speaker 6 (55:34):
You know, first of all, I'll say, right, this is
a surprise to me. I thought he would sign before
the season, a short term deal, maybe four years or
something like that. I'll tell you this, I'm like everybody else.
I've looked into it. I think the two losses in
the row have made him even more fanatical about winning
(55:54):
than before, if that was even possible. All like, he
trained like a madman all summer to try to take
that last step that the Orders couldn't take the last
two years. And I don't think this is about this year.
I think this is about three to five years from now.
Does he believe that the Oulers have staying power? It's
a really good team, but it's one of the Leagus's
(56:15):
oldest teams. Eventually some of those players start to hit
decline and you get to a situation where how are
you replenishing them? What is your next wave? And I
think one of the concerns right now with the Oilers
they've created for Sawuah, they've creded for Isaac Howard, and
while they both have bright futures, they're not certainties. And
I think that that's what he's saying, like do we
(56:36):
have three to five year staying power? I will say
this that the one quote the other day was talking
about long term, short term, and then he said no term.
I had an Oilers fans friend of mine who called
me right away like a mass panic what he said,
no term. You know, I do believe McDavid when he
says he wants to win in Edmondson first and foremost.
(56:58):
But I think he's trying to let everybody in the
organization know that he wants to be able to win
every year and there's no guarantees he'd go anywhere and
have a better team. He wants to make sure that
they can win every year. And I think this is
about three to five years down the road.
Speaker 3 (57:16):
Surprise Elliott final question here that they Oilers didn't address
their goaltending situation, especially with mcdaid's future in mind.
Speaker 6 (57:26):
Yes and no, Donnie, Like, if you look at it,
Skinner's two point six million, right, and they're a cap
tight team. You know, it's interesting about John Gibson. I've
had some people who say to me, the Oilers never
talked to him. I've had other people say to me
(57:48):
that they tested to see his interest in going there.
So it's an interesting conversation. I think the Oilers has
said for the price it would take and the salary
they would have to fit in, there was nothing that
made sense. Like if you take a look at what
was really available to me, they felt that there was
(58:09):
nothing that made sense. So we start the year with
Skinner as their guy. I just think that I think
the Oilers will be open to anything that makes them better,
but it has to make sense for them. That to me,
of all the conversations I had about Skinner in his future,
(58:29):
the thing I kept hearing was there was nothing that
made sense that was definitively better than him. So that's
I think where we are is there's something that makes
sense that is better and also for this year too,
before the cab really starts to go up and you
have to pay McDavid again. You know, is there anything
that fits financially.
Speaker 3 (58:49):
I couldn't agree with you more about walking around a
city like Milan. It's just so special. Elliott. We can't
thank you enough for joining us for another season. All
the best, my friend, and again, thanks so much.
Speaker 6 (59:03):
Well, you know, I wanted to say that, as you
guys know, my donation, my fee for this goes to
the Canucks Charities for Autism and the Conox charity is
doing an unbelievable job and this year you guys are matching.
So I just wanted to say I really appreciate that.
You know, anything we can do. There's a lot of
(59:24):
people out there that need help, and you know they can't.
It's very hard for people who need help to come
and say thank you. So I just wanted to say
thank you on their behalf for matching the fee. I
really do appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (59:38):
Thanks Helly. We'll talk to you a couple of weeks,
All right, take care guyst Elliott Freeman Hawky Day in
Canada thirty two Thoughts podcast. We've had Elliott on and
we've had mo John and the one thing that we
forgot to talk to them about is the passing of
Ken Dryden. We'll do that next. Donnie Dolly the team.
Speaker 1 (59:57):
Check Donnie and Dollie.
Speaker 7 (01:00:00):

Help Bottling dog poll question experience one of Victoria's iconic destinations, sleep,
sip and stock up all in one legendary spot Rick,
(01:00:28):
come sit and stay at the dog Today Milford Golf
tournament going on as we speak at Northview Golf and
Country Club. The Canucks unofficial start to the hockey season.
Elias Patterson spoke to the media today, talked about him
himself gaining six kilos just over thirteen pounds of muscle.
Why would he say pounds? It was European, all right,
(01:00:52):
but were the exception?
Speaker 4 (01:00:54):
Well, hold that Ryan had to google how many pounds
and six kilos? So that's how we came up with thirteen.
We're not the sharpest tools of the shed.
Speaker 3 (01:01:02):
Here, right, get it up. Let's go get her up.
The waddling dog pup poul question.
Speaker 4 (01:01:07):
Ellis Petterson said today he gained thirteen pounds in the
off season was strength his biggest issue last season, And
sixty one percent say no, but thirty nine percent say yes,
seven hundred and fifty plus votes already. I just go
to Rick Talckett and you were really upset when Tackett
had to tell Patterson to move his feet of practice.
(01:01:27):
And his issue isn't weight. He had over one hundred
points when he was less weight. His issue is between
the ears, better practice habits, and better off season training.
That's where his issues are.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
Yeah, weight, I think he needed to gain strength though
if that comes with the extra weight they add a muscle,
he falls down. He falls down a lot, He falls
down a lot. Right again, for me, I know I
talked about the starlier, but for people who weren't tuned in,
get back to shooting the puck. Shoot the puck. Don't
be reluctant to shoot the That's where it starts. Yeah.
(01:02:01):
And then the reason it bothered me with moving the
feet is I've been involved with minor hockey for a
long time now, or at least I was. And that's
what you tell kids in Adam and Peeley, move your feet,
move your feet. You hear the guy eleven six and
he's not moving his feet. It just didn't seem right
to me. You hear parents yelling at hockey rinks and
your feet to their kids. All you did that to you?
I did it? Move your feet? Yeah I did it?
(01:02:22):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:02:23):
But yeah, that guy making eleven million should not be
told by the coach to move his feet.
Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
That's and come to camp in shape, which I'm was
a problem last year.
Speaker 4 (01:02:32):
Look, I'm giving Elious a clean slate. He had a
good summer, no stepbacks, no injuries. I hope that guy
gets one hundred points again. And you know what, it's
a no.
Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
JT.
Speaker 4 (01:02:42):
Miller's not here. They're not going to have the soap
opera anymore. So you know what, he's got a clean slate,
Go get it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
Ken Dryden Rick passing away over the weekend at the
age of seventy eight after a battle with cancer that
wasn't publicized at all. This this ass and came out
of nowhere. Hall of Famer National Hockey League. Great, Oh,
you only played eight seasons. Wreck he played eight seasons.
He could have played eight more after that while he
(01:03:11):
was he was invested in a law career. I think
think about what he did eight NHL seasons six Stanley
Cups in just eight seasons five Vesinas. He won a
Consmy Trophy and a Cup before he won a Calder
Trophy as Rookie of the Year. No one's ever going
to this way back in nineteen seventy one, No one's
(01:03:31):
ever going to do that again. And what he went
on to do author politician, president of the President of
the Maple Leaves, and they were pretty good and under
his leadership. I just want to talk about how unusual
he was. I tweeted something out about this. His number
twenty nine. Goalies didn't wear that number. Back then he
(01:03:52):
was six four. Look at goalies now, they're all six
four and six four. That's a very good point. Vankerver.
Giants have a kid at be like six, So you
never saw players like that, little, big lanky guy. Just
it just seems so unbeatable. He had leaning on his
stick the way he did on this. Everybody was doing
that in road hockey back then. He influenced so many
(01:04:15):
youngsters out there. He was something else. Donnie.
Speaker 4 (01:04:18):
First you had to get past shot Lemaire all those
got big three. Then you had to get back, get
past the big bird, Larry Robinson. Then he had to
deal with Ken Dryden and and for those of us
in the seventies, I'm gonna take you back to a
time we only had Donnie CBC and we had the
French channel.
Speaker 3 (01:04:39):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (01:04:39):
We had two channels. Every day, every Saturday, we got
to watch Ken Dryden. And I just it hit me
the way that just when you got the news about him.
He was so big in the seventies and Hockey Night
in Canada and the Montreal Forum and Ken Dryden.
Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
Uh, it was big. Rafted by the Boston Bruins, the
teams that haves up said in nineteen seventy one came
out of Cornell American College, which players didn't do back then.
Canadian players didn't do that, not many in college back then.
And also I always remember well, first of all, two
of the great masks, back to back masks for two
(01:05:17):
of the greatest looking masks in National Hockey League history.
If you ask me, I always remember his stick too.
He had the large font Sherwood, which nobody had at
the time. It was unusual at the time. Then he
went on to use a Canadian stick that was the
brand name. I believe sirge Savard owned that company, but
It was just a lot of unusual things with him.
(01:05:38):
He was just very very special. I want to show
this too, Ron, We've got this, and we saw a
snippet of this in that highlight package we just ran.
But nineteen seventy one, Ken Dryden comes joins the habs,
comes to the National Hockey League out of nowhere. He
made one of the great saves in National Hockey leg
history in the nineteen seventy one Stanley Cup Final against
(01:06:00):
the Chicago Blackhawks. It was against Jim Pappen. We're gonna
see it right here, wide open. Pappen raises his stick.
He thought he scored. He thought he scored. You know,
he was in no way he was gonna gonna stop
Miss Bobby Hall. He was part of the Blackhawks back then,
but pappened there. That was one of the greatest. And
this pisces me off in that the National Hockey League
and the same goals for Baseball, same goals for the NBA,
(01:06:24):
did such a poor job back then of documenting their product.
This is the only thing we could find a couple
of snippets of this. One of the great moments of
national hockey history not that long ago, and it's very
poorly documented. It's it's too bad they weren't thinking like
the NFL films people, those guys thinking that that was
that's saved was. I remember watching it and I remember
(01:06:46):
my brothers, two of them Blackhawks fans loved Makedah, loved Hull.
They rose up, but they thought they they were like
paper and they thought he scored. He didn't because because
Dryden made that spectacular save in rapier like fashion, by
the way, with his right leg, with something else but
Ken Dryden leaving us at the age of seventy eight,
there won't be never be anybody like him. Lawyer, NHL star, author,
(01:07:10):
NHL executive did it all.
Speaker 4 (01:07:12):
And you know, Grant Feur was there with the Oiders,
Billy Smith with the Islanders, and Ken Dryden with the Habs,
all these dynasties, they still had to have great goalies.
It's hard to win. I don't care how good you
are without that guy.
Speaker 3 (01:07:25):
At the end. You look at the Cane lineup right
now and you think of the Habs and I'm not
comparing the by any stretch of imagination, folks, but you know,
just dying to get, you know, players of quality in
their lineup. The Habs up up front, Lafleur, shut Lamaire,
the big the big three points of Robinson and then
(01:07:48):
that guy in Gold. No one was going to beat them,
and they reeled off those four straight Stanley Cups in
the mid to late seventies and two before go on Cornway. Yeah, Cornway,
of course, just absolutely fabulous. You've got some business. Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:08:02):

born of this day forty seven, bass player, singer for
the Boston band That's going to play us out seventy nine,
the album Candy Yo, this is the Cars Benjamin on
lead vocals. And let's go on check where new Wave
is never old on a BC Monday morning, lots of
(01:19:37):
Is it just means, let's get to the rick all right?
Justin and East bands?
Speaker 4 (01:19:41):
Just me?
Speaker 3 (01:19:41):
The Lions have only one.
Speaker 4 (01:19:43):
Two their past five, despite scoring more than thirty points
in every game. They got to fix the deed the
D line, Donny, I remember the great late Bob Ackles
told me, it's just not a quarterback you need.
Speaker 3 (01:19:54):
You need that.
Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
Stut on the D line, and they don't have one,
and they haven't had one since Cam Weak. Don few bets,
not you bets, but he I mean this year he's
not dominating. You need, as Bob told me, you need somebody.
I don't care how good your secondary is. If the
other quarterbacks got all day to throw, he's gonna he's
gonna complete his passes.
Speaker 3 (01:20:14):
Well, maybe now that Petterson's bulked up, he could help
out the Lions defensive line. Is it just me? But
tell me, John Shannon will still be a regular even
though he's got the Shannon Ferraro podcast now happening. That's
from Steve Shuttz his story. John's still gonna be one
of our regulars.
Speaker 5 (01:20:32):
Right, Yeah, we're bringing back the whole gang.
Speaker 8 (01:20:33):
So John, the Gang's back, Uh this week only John
will be on Thursday.
Speaker 3 (01:20:38):
He's tied up with some other stuff.
Speaker 8 (01:20:40):
John Farhand Drance which Dolly Walls throw the Big Button tomorrow.
And Jamie McClenny every second Monday, alternating with Elliott as
well in Fininess. Yeah, Ross we mentioned as well. Yeah,
and then we'll have our favorites on from time to
time as well.
Speaker 3 (01:20:56):
Uh is it just me new we s Nick? This
is crazy, but since Rick is good at getting agents
on the show, he should get Kawhi Leonard's agent to
teach other agents how to maximize your client's earnings without
adding any workload. You hear this story? Yeah, Steve Walmer's story. Yeah,
they basically hired him to be a window cleaner for
what was it? But no, no, no, prem me it's
(01:21:17):
a tree planting company. Yeah, so it's it's a If
you watch the Sopranos, No Show, No Show, job. Yeah. Really,
Now they the Clippers.
Speaker 8 (01:21:28):
Since that report came out from Pablo Torre, they were
on the offensive saying, no, this did not happen.
Speaker 3 (01:21:34):
It was a deal that went bad.
Speaker 8 (01:21:36):
Mark Cuban actually had did a really interesting interview with
Pablo as well, and talking about how deeply these things
get vetted, especially when it's a new sponsor, because they
were legitimate. They were the team sponsor for the Clippers
for some time.
Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
You know. Interesting.
Speaker 8 (01:21:52):
I believe those sorts of things maybe do happen, but
the figure was something massive like they would have been.
Speaker 5 (01:22:00):
I don't know you would have gotten that.
Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
I'm not saying it's right, but it's been going on
at not necessarily at the highest level.
Speaker 5 (01:22:06):
But you'd have college athletics.
Speaker 3 (01:22:08):
Yeah, you know a lot of that. Somebody would get
hired as a window clean for one hundred a year.
But yeah, wake cup, you gotta pick it out. No,
I'm waiting for this one.
Speaker 4 (01:22:17):
Is it just me or do we know if Petterson
put on thirteen Pabbleberry pounds or thirteen Kyle Wellwood pounds.
Stephen Norse stray Hey, and I got to get this
either one is not great muscle outweighs fat three to one.
So I said I'd put a few pounds on in
the cruise. That was you know, that was the buffet table.
But what Peterson was doing, he was putting muscle on.
(01:22:41):
And you want muscle, you don't want the other stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:22:44):
Donnie Well, I think they're palvel bre eight pounds and
muscle pounds. I don't think that's what the listener was
talking about, but we could go yeah, I know, I
get what you're saying. And by the way, Rick Ball
and I used to talk about this all the time.
The shot of Kyle Well would around the pole. Yeah, yeah,
I think he looked for an average guy. I wouldn't
mind looking like that at the cast on exactly. But
(01:23:04):
he took a lot of heat for it. And realize
you're at a different level when you're a pro athlete.
Maddie D in Sydney speaking for a lot of people,
Is it just me? It only took you guys twenty
five minutes into the new season to start ragging on
eleven six. Great to have you back, Maddie D in Sydney.
You know what I like here is that I think
(01:23:25):
he's criticizing us for criticizing Elias Petterson. But Maddie, you
called him eleven six, eleven six. There you go, and
you did it, and stop doing that. We did not
rag on Petterson today. He is a vital part of
the Canucks. He is an.
Speaker 4 (01:23:40):
Iron Rod, good and bad. He's been no lightning Rod
or whatever he's been. Iron Rod is one of those
movies you saw in the summer. Just let me finish
this guy. When he does well, people love him. And
when he doesn't do well last year five points, Donnie,
forty five points last year?
Speaker 3 (01:24:00):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 4 (01:24:00):
Of course you're gonna get ripped in a Canadian market,
making eleven to six and getting only forty five points.
Oh uh no, I don't like this one. Oh okay,
let me go here. Rick Talckett answers the phones. But
did abandoning the team after one bad year remove him
from the good guy's list?
Speaker 3 (01:24:17):
That's a cody.
Speaker 4 (01:24:18):
I still see people taking shots at Rick Talckett for leaving.
He had his reasons, you know what, And I'll tell
you what they were done. Five point two million a
year in Philadelphia, that's what they were.
Speaker 3 (01:24:29):
Practice facility. We heard the practice facility? Is it just
me unsigned. This is directed. I think, well, it's toward
all of us, but sign not everything? Is it just me?
But not everything has to be about hockey. Soccer has
won billion times bigger than hockey worldwide. A hockey signing
is about as important as a pickleball signing. You were
saying earlier, and I agreed with you that the Pavel
(01:24:52):
Bury signing back in nineteen ninety one bigger than the
Thomas Mueller signing in Vancouver.
Speaker 4 (01:24:58):
In Vancouver, this is a hockey crew market, this is
a hockey crazy country. I'm sorry, but Pavelo Burry's signing
in Vancouver was bigger than Mueller signing in.
Speaker 3 (01:25:07):
Vancouver and Vancouver. The hats off to the white Caps
for doing what they did with with Thomas Mueller. White
Caps toasted Philadelphia on Saturday, but I mean, come on,
they they packed the Britanny Arena for his first practice
back in ninety one, and Messy too.
Speaker 4 (01:25:22):
I'm sorry, but when MESSI came here, you don't think
the city was electrified.
Speaker 3 (01:25:26):
Come on, it's it's it's open to an opinion. But
I understand where the listener slash viewer is coming from. Worldwide.
The Muller signers is bigger. We're good, right, Okay, we'll
take a break. We'll wrap up the show of the poll.
Question next Donnie of the team on check.
Speaker 4 (01:25:48):
Dog pole Rick Ryan got her up the waddling dog
pole question elliots. Patterson said today's gained thirteen pounds in
the off season was strength his biggest issue. Thank you
last season? No sixty sixty but thirty nine percent say yes,
almost a thousand votes and there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:26:09):
He also confirmed that he experienced the greatest day of
his life. Got married. He got married. Good for this
and uh, you know what with marriage comes maturity, not
always we're both married. Yeah, So it was Ryan classic
exam their exceptions. They're right there. Okay, you got pictures.
Speaker 4 (01:26:26):
Oh and by the way, Ryan, we got a million pictures.
We're going to get to everybody by the end of
the week. Ryan, go, where are we going?
Speaker 3 (01:26:36):
You're in charge of this? How could I be in charge?
Speaker 8 (01:26:38):
He was the fault right the first one, Ricky is
uh is the birthday?
Speaker 6 (01:26:43):
You have?
Speaker 5 (01:26:43):
The birthday?
Speaker 3 (01:26:45):
Yeah? Right here right? This is good?
Speaker 4 (01:26:47):
Yeah, happy boy, happy birthday. No, it's a happy yeah.
Boy from North Burnaby would like to wish my father,
Albert a happy birthday. Regina born World War Two veteran,
longtime News resident. Big Al turn one hundred and three
years old on August thirty first, Happy birthday and big
Oul on his birthday. What a great photo. And that's
(01:27:07):
from one hundred and three years, one hundred and three
years old. Congrats on that. We've got another picture accompanying
this to be not from nineteen sixty.
Speaker 3 (01:27:14):
Yeah, the same two gentlemen.
Speaker 5 (01:27:15):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the same one.
Speaker 3 (01:27:17):
I believe this is sorry I'm putting it and that's
from Robert, his dad. So it's a great shot. One
hundred and three years old. So that's that's the same
to people. Look at that back in nineteen sixty. Wow,
give me a time machine, me go back there. Look
at those old tube skates there, the Fedora, what happened
in those days? Station wagon? Beautiful?
Speaker 4 (01:27:37):
What else we're gonna go gras Well, this one's for you.
You should be reading it. You were in Italy.
Speaker 3 (01:27:43):
Yeah, and you ran into a Donny and Dolly fan.
Look at this. Who are we talking about here, Dennis.
It's the battle of the skinny legs there.
Speaker 4 (01:27:50):
Yeah no, no, you got big calfs. I'm impressed with
your caps. I've got big calves to tell us. Don,
who is this Dennis? Oh, Dennis, yeah, yeah, so you
just you've.
Speaker 3 (01:28:00):
Got the information there. I but so you just ran
into them. Where we were staying at the I'll never
forget the name of the hotel. It was the Treyano
Hotel like Jay Treano in Rome and it's just fabulous
and having a breakfast there one morning.
Speaker 5 (01:28:14):
And it's Dennis and Julian by the.
Speaker 3 (01:28:16):
Way, Julian's son. Yeah, his wife was taking the picture.
If I'm not if I'm not mistaken, And there you go,
You're breakfast in Rome and there's somebody from from Vancouver
recognized me and we had a great conversation and obviously
the two parties had a great time. Hard not to
have a great time. I'm with Elliott by the way.
(01:28:36):
Just walking around these cities, it's just it's all you
have to do. It's just amazing, great meals, just so good.
Oh that's Prague, that's Progue. Yeah, that's Prague. Yeah did
you do that graffiti? Huh?
Speaker 5 (01:28:49):
What did you do the graffiti?
Speaker 3 (01:28:50):
Said John Lennon wall in produge. Oh, wow, they I
did thought that was while I was You've got a
bad boys side. I don't know. Maybe you know that.
That's the that's the Charles Bridge in Prague on the left,
and then on the right, I'm in front of the
John Lennon Wall in Prague. John Lennon was a big,
big deal back in the day, and in nineteen eighty
when he passed away, artists started the giant this. I'm
(01:29:12):
getting the history wrong, I'm sure, but you get the
gist of it. Started the John Lennon Wall and people
have added to it with graffiti and it's one of
the one of the landmarks there. Wow again, I'll city it.
Ray Ferrara was on me for a long Tay, you
gotta go to Progue, gotta go. A lot of world
championships there, a lot of world championships.
Speaker 4 (01:29:29):
Ricky quickly, Well, we're gonna stay. We're gonna stay, We're
gonna go. This is Chris, my buddy in Vienna.

Athens as well. Who thirty five Celsius, Same gentlemen, Yeah, yep,

Speaker 3 (01:29:50):
