Speaker 1 (00:00):
Dope'sworth closing this Pam's DNA. Dope itsworth closed in this
Pam's DNA.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
What's good everybody? Well, it's the Dope Interviews brought to
you by the mighty NINETI Media Group. I'm your host,
Warren Shaw, and in the virtual building today in just
a little bit will be Jordan's Spark, Terrell Ferguson and
Johnny Ware. That is a cast of roller Jam premiering
on Max. Great conversation ahead, stay tuned here on Dope Interviews.
All right, Warren Shaw here with Dope Interviews. Here with
the illustrious cast from roller Jam, Jordan's Sparks and Wearon,
Terrell Ferguson, what's good? Family? How are y'all?
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Love?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
We hope We're dope?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, exactly, you are absolutely dope, absolutely dope. So having
three of you together is a great honor and a
great privilege for me. I'm gonna, you know, try to
go a little popcorn style a little bit too. But
Jordan and Toront want to kind of start with you.
How do you think roller Jam is going to impact
kind of these types of shows, right, both shows that
focus on dance, shows that focus on music. You know,
(00:57):
how can roller Jam impact future service of this nature?
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Well, I mean, this one is the first of its kind.
There's never been a roller skating competition show there. It
hasn't been like spotlit like this, and so I feel
like it's going to impact it in a huge way
because now you have all the different generations that are
going to be watching this at home. It's a family
show that everybody can watch, so you have everyone from Grandma,
like you said earlier, to the grandkids that'll be able
(01:22):
to sit and watch it. And you just never know
what kind of inspiration that you'll for lack of a
better term, spark for somebody in as they're watching. And
so I think there's just going to be a whole
new wave of people who are trying to skate. There's
been a big uptick in resurgence in skating the past
few years everywhere from social media platforms to the super Bowl.
(01:42):
So I think it's just going to be really fun
to dive in and be in the middle of that
world as well.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Well. It also gives something to strive for because we
all started skating when we were kids and it was fun.
We just did it for fun. Hang out with your
friends on the weekend. But now like a little kid
practicing basketball in the backyard to throwing the football through
retire kids that skate at the rinks on the streets,
they have something to strive for. Like I can be
on this show, I can be on a competition show.
(02:08):
I can be on a dance a skate Like, now
I have something that I can really reach for and
attain and you know you can touch. It's like a championship.
So they can you know, everybody wants to go to
the NBA finals, Well, now they want to be on
roller jam. I mean that's something that a ten, twelve,
fifteen year old can go if I work really hard,
get really good at my craft, get my friends together,
and we you know, hit this right, we can be
(02:30):
on roller jams.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
Well they want to win roller jams before.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yeah, big facts, big facts, and Johnny, you're going to
get this question a thousand times over. But I just
I just got to so the difference between what you
do on regular spaces and then now kind of influencing
influencing it here on the roller jam stage. How are
you able to kind of from your judge to mind
take ice skating away and then kind of take it
(02:53):
to the roller skating rink.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
Well, anybody that skates is in this little niche family,
and we all kind of get each other. Whether it's
being at the ice rink and meeting speed skaters and
hockey players, or walking into a roller rink and meeting
people that do artistic roller skating or jam skating. We're
definitely all family. And for me coming in, I couldn't
speak to most of the technical aspects of what the
(03:16):
crews were doing, which is absolutely mind blowing and insane.
But my position on the judging panel was more about
packaging performance, choreography and getting the full picture of what
was happening out there. I mean, I know what it's
like to train for something and have everything on the
line for your six minutes in front of the world.
And I think just all of my experience as a
(03:38):
figure skater and now as a commentator for figure skating,
it helped me as a judge because I knew what
I wanted to see. And I hope that my position
on the judging panel helped bring something out of our athletes,
our performers that maybe they wouldn't have thought of before,
just because I have a slightly different perspective than Zadi
technical over there.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
I've seen some of the show and yeah, Trella is
he goes hard but with purpose, right, and I think
that's an important aspect of it. One of the things
that I found to be unique about the show was
a celebrity guest. But you all are celebrities in your
own rights, so who or something for each of you.
What was the most impactful or maybe the wild moment
for celebrity guests that were on the show.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
I definitely wowed when Michelle Williams walked on the floor,
for sure, come on, you know, I was a couple
of bits, and then I really I loved all of them,
to be honest. I thought Debbie Gibson was really fun.
Maureen McCormick was so sweet.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
Joanna Gain yes, miss Joanna Gate, Yes, I mean Chip
and Joanna executive producers on this project, and they wanted
to shine a light on roller skating and yes yeah,
Joanna coming in for the finale and helping us choose
our winner was very special.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
And as a as a little kid from the city,
being on with Pepper was like, oh shoot, I wanted
to be in your videos when I was a little
dancer kid.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
I love nostalgia for everybody across the board for sure.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Facts facts well, we're short in time obviously, last one
for let y'all get out of here. It just this
collection coming together. So are you guys going to be
lifetime friends now and will be seeing roller Jam season two?
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Please? From your lips to God's ears, Okay, yes, we
definitely want to do that. It was I mean, I'm
speaking for myself, but I think I can speak to
them when I say that we had such a good
time on the show. It was grueling, the days were long,
but at the same we got along. The skaters were incredible,
the performances were great, and I think now that we
kind of have this season under our belt, it's going
(05:32):
to be really cool to see what happens season two.
I'm just going to say that it's going to happen
because I want.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
It to happen.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
It will, yes, I want it to happen. But now
that we've kind of had this moment, the next season,
it's like, Okay, now we have an expectation. Now we
have a floor of where to start and where to
look for, and I'm excited to see what skaters are
inspired by this season will who will come in the
next season. But we had a blast. I love these guys.
(05:59):
I think they're also I think they love me too. Yeah,
so we get along really really well. We support each other,
and I just think it's really fun to be able
to find people that way, because it's not always that way.
It doesn't always turn out that way. So very grateful
that I've got these two gentlemen around.
Speaker 6 (06:15):
For sure.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Johnny doesn't know this. I've had people come up to
me like, how long have you been friends?
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I don't even know you.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
Guys are like, no, we just met. But like we
get along so which is kind of funny because you
think we're like the exact opposite, or maybe that's why
we're so opposite, because we make.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
Them We got banned, truly, Like our show is all
about positivity, and that starts with us. I mean, we're
the ring leaders of this circus. But it's a competition.
It's serious, there's a lot on the line. But giving
positivity and love into the world, and especially such a
special world that touches all of us, was what we
were all about. And I know that people sitting at
(06:51):
home are going to feel that come through the screen.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
We're almost too nice.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
Well we were mostly too nice.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Big big facts, Jordan Torell, Johnny, thank you so much
as it truly has been a dope interview. I can't
wait to see all season.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
We did it mail, thank you, good one.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Together we stand the vile.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
