La policía le dio plena credibilidad a la testigo, que a la vez era una víctima de tales agresiones, y puso en marcha una investigación. El dueño del centro de artes marciales era el gran campeón de kárate, con responsabilidades en la federación canaria y la española, Fernando Torres Baena.
Tras muy pocas entrevistas con otros alumnos, los investigadores descubrieron que las agresiones sexuales llevaban produciéndose desde hacía muchos años y afectaban a decenas de menores. Había otros monitores del gimnasio también implicados en las orgías con alumnos. El número de víctimas no dejó de crecer y crecer.
