Speaker 1 (01:06):
It was Twoday, September sixth It was hot in Los Angeles.
We were working the Night Watch out of Narcotic Detail.
My partner Frank Smith's. The boss was Captain Waller. My
name's Friday. We're on our way out from the office
and it was nine thirty three pm when we got
to the corner of eighth and Temple converted Garage. Is
that the right address? Yeah, I wanted to swing around
here at the corner. We can park across the street
up there, Okay, yeah, right up here, it is all right.
(01:30):
There is much of a house. Looks more like a
store or something. You know, you share that where he's living, Joe, Yeah,
making sure the place used to be a garage. Huh fellow,
ran it went broke, turned it into living quarters. I
see how long has Denton's been staying here? About six
months along? Well, he's got his family with him, wife,
two or three kids.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Now, what do you thinks we tap him? Now, let's
give it a couple of minutes. See if you're joining
the Testamon, Now, okay, is this Micky sure about all this?
And he says he is, says Denton's loaded for action.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Thirty or forty camps just caught him to night. Huh yeah.
Think you know who he got him from? He does,
He wouldn't tell me. Jo. Yeah, on seas her wife
wonder who she's looking for? I who's seen anybody? And
she does me? We that might make a little easier
for us. What do you mean she left the door
(02:19):
open acquestionably? Forty five minutes earlier, we received a telephone
call from an informant named Nicki Corbyn. Corbyn reported that
slim Dents and the known narcotics user who lived at
the corner of Temple and Eate had some thirty or
forty caps of heroin in his possession. Corbyn said Dentson
was getting ready to push this step. Frank and I
(02:41):
waited across the street from the Denton residence for twenty
six minutes. During that time, no one came in or
out of the house, but the front door remained open.
Nine fifty nine pm, a young man turned the corner
and headed into the converted garage. Five minutes later he
reappeared and started down the street. Should we talking? Yeah? Whatever?
Frank huh, yes, you forgot that? Yeah? Going back inside.
(03:05):
I let's give him some company. The man re entered
the Dentsen residence. As soon as he disappeared through the
front door. I moved in after him. At the same time,
Frank went around to the rear of the building. The
guys had been crudy partitioned in the room, and the
front area contained an over stuffed sofa, a dining room
table and chairs, and the TV sets. In addition to
(03:27):
the young man who had gone in ahead of me,
there were two other people in the room. The woman
who had previously appeared in the doorway and a sallow faced,
middle aged man on this writer. You're under arrest, please,
that's right. Don't move any of you.

which contained thirty two caps of heroin. Danson admitted that
the eighth belonged to him, but he refused to tell
us where he acquired it. Jerry Boston denied any knowledge
of the drugs. We made arrangements for the two dents
and children to be placed on a protective custody of
the Juvenal Division. Ten forty two PM, we took the
Danson's and Jerry Boston down of the Narcotics Bureau for
further questioning. Our investigation revealed that Boston was not implicated

Ten years from previous investigations, Frank and I knew that
perk Kelvy was involved in the narcotics trade. He'd been
arrested several times for possession, but so far he had
always managed to escape conviction. At the time of his
last arrest, some five months ago, he had been in
the company of his wife, Marjorie. When the wife was searched,
(19:19):
three ounces of heroin were found on her person. Marjorie
Healthy had not been known to us as a pusher
or a user, so when her husband was questioned, he
denied any knowledge of the dope. His wife was sentenced
to a term at the women's State Prisons. Twelve or
eight am, Frank and I drove back to the Denton residence.
The place was deserted. We went inside to wait for
Healthy and Josie Denton one sixteen am.
Speaker 2 (19:41):

want to do, it's gonna be there wor against his
unless you step.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
In, include me out.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
Maybe you got to beep against your father. Maybe whatever
you give me won't help him much, might make a
difference in your mother's kase.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
So oh, come on, you don't care any more about
my folks than I do.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
You're after Perk with just stuff, wasn't it?
Speaker 4 (21:34):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
You better think it over? Why should Ie? You don't
mean anything to him? Isn't what he tells me? He's
got a wife.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
Amy the way I hear it, he's out of town.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
You know who said her there. It's nothing to keep
the same thing from happening to you. It won't do
you ever think your mother cried? Jobie? Well, I did
the night. She wasn't trying for herself, and there was
for you and your kid sisters. You got a choice.
Is it gonna be mother or that two bit pusher
in there?
Speaker 4 (22:02):
Not a very nice way to talk about a friend
of mine?
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Is it is that? Your answer?
Speaker 4 (22:06):
I had a big night.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
I'm kind of tired. She got nothing on me. So
I think I'll just paddle off the bed and just
stay court. Yeh yeah, I'm not sure of you yet,
stay here.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
She was through before you ever started.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
She doesn't care about her mother or anybody else. It's
easy to crack helvy. I think, no, it was, But
he got up to the stuff is his. He's got
some morning his car or turned the teeth. I don't know.
Maybe he likes his star. Maybe that's why he held
back on his wife to get rid of her.
Speaker 4 (22:38):
When you guys get done comparing notes, i'd like to
get a little shut eye.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
We're done now. Your plan of smart a point and
run into a stone wall is there? Your mind's made up?
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Huh, it's a general idea.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
I want to pin something on Percy. Better look someplace out.
We don't have to. We don't need you either, right,
Neither is your mother? For her sake, I'm glad she doesn't.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Are you kind?
Speaker 1 (23:00):
I'm not any anything. Kert gave us what we asked for,
more than enough. I don't believe you. Why should well?
You better ask him?
Speaker 4 (23:06):
Don't make any sense. I would have backed him up.
What every cold did he know?
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Dad? Y does?
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Crazy jerk? Probably thinks he's doing me a favor, helping
out my folks.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
Some joker. Yeah, what's it on?
Speaker 2 (23:25):
