Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the first episode of the year. Hi, this
is Dynasty two, the Kolobe's after show here on JLJ Media.
It is March twenty twenty five, and I didn't realize
the last episode we did was our three year anniversary
in November of twenty twenty four. Three years on the
air of this very unique specific podcast, right, I know,
(00:26):
very proud of it, and I'm very happy to bring
it back with new episodes. I was watching the CW
Dynasty on Netflix, as you can catch it all five seasons.
I knew it was there by this, I was like,
I want to rewatch it. On a side note, I've
(00:46):
been rewatching several first episodes of several shows. I did
a Different World, which is now on Netflix. Oh, we
watched the first episode Family Affair. We were in that
show from the late sixties or eight seventies with the
Twins and mister French. I rewatched that first episode and
(01:10):
that actually did commentary on it for our other show,
have you heard of Me? Other show from Jail Jim,
And so I was like, I want to watch the
first episode of c W Dynasty because it's been so long.
Now on this show, I talk about Jeff Colby on
(01:31):
episode two years ago, because he does span all the
Dynasty universe, the original, the Colby's and c W. But
I just sometimes, in like many shows like this or
reaction shows we do, rewatches are very big, so do
(01:51):
you rewatch? So these are like, these are like my
newer thoughts. Guess too, dude, that was like three years
after their original or the original thoughts I had of
just the CW Dynasty's Jeff Colby's first episode, so it's
very specific pilot episode of show Jeff Colby introduction one.
(02:16):
I really enjoyed the CW Dynasty intro. The first pilot
episode was so good. It was one of those things
where if you hadn't watched the original Dynasty, it still
sits on its own, meaning it was a well rounded
(02:38):
hour of television of Sophie television. It had, you know,
they're interesting on the characters, and for US Dynasty fans
seeing Grant show as Blake so younger had it fallon
as the lead, bringing Stephen on as this bleeding heart
(03:05):
liberal green person.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
You know, Michael the driver being black.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
I mean, I just they started doing me and Crystal
being Latina.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
They really did.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
I was like, okay, I remember just be like I
just couldn't believe what I was seeing and seating in Atlanta,
but throwing little easter eggs, like how is Denver?
Speaker 2 (03:26):
I missed the heat here? You know?
Speaker 1 (03:29):
You know there's Matthew Crystal's eggs. Who's with Claudia and
you have them, so like there's like there's some there
was some stuff. And it kept mentioning alexis right. But
Jeff Colby in the episode first she had to mention.
(03:51):
It's like, yes, there's Jeff Colby, who my dad hates him.
I don't hate us, hates the strong word whether god,
this baseball team. I want to show this baseball team.
He's like he's outbitty or whatever. He's like, oh yeah,
I kind of I do any work. So you get
like a little taste. We don't know who he is yet,
(04:14):
find out that they grew up together. We don't see
him yet. Then halfway through the episode she's meeting with
him Fallon and so we meet him and he says handsome,
dark skinned black man, which you're like, okay, the original
Jeff Kobe was not that. So you're like, first like,
(04:36):
oh you black, okay, And I remember I remember just
going like, this is interesting. I just never because I
never thought, I said before other shows, I never thought
Dynasty could be remade in a way that would work,
and so far they proved me wrong. I watching this pilota,
this is really working. So Fallon and Jeff are talking.
(05:00):
Just within the pilot we see chemistry a little bit,
which plays later kind of weird.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Because they become cousins. But that's the only story.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
But they and actually general Hospitalker took a page out
of the cousins thing lovers and cousins thing.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
From the CW Dynasty.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
But this, but this dynasty isn't super campy yet, but
it's like it has shades of it, right, it's in there.
And he mentions, I thought you because she was like,
that was my older brother's friend. So Steven, that is
just their friends. He was coming you being with me
(05:40):
hang out with my sister. I thought it was because
it made you look edgy and I love it.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
It's like.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
They lean into the black thing, not really being too
overhanded heavy handed about It's like he leans into it
a bit, as it's in a normal way that people
of our age and millennials would Millennials would talk and
then he's kind of kind of flirted us a little flirtation.
(06:12):
Then later at the engagement party for Crystal and Blake,
he's there also, and she tried, you know, She's like,
let's talk, let's talk business baseball, and it's like this
(06:35):
is and we beat his sister. He beat Monica, beautiful
black woman with beautiful frowish hair. And I'm like, and
Crystal's happy to a Crystal sorry, Found's happy to see
them both that they're there, and like, oh, okay, so
they're all friends. Of course you tried to later their cousins,
but they're all friends. Jeff used to work with Carrington.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
He is the thing.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Some kind of deal went through where he made his
first billion. So Jeff Colby's rich. Oh so he's a billion.
So they already set up Jeff Colby as a separate
billionaire himself, which the whole series.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Has been like. It was like it was like to
do the whole series.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
It was like, he's rich, Blake is rich, so they
both are rich. Well this setup, I went wow. Side
of course, redtroduced us to Sammy Joe, which is a
male Sammy Joe, who's the nephew of Crystal love that
a little far fetched, but I love it. But they
(07:42):
set up Jeff to be smart, worldly, but also down home, playful,
a great well rounded character.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
And it's from There's pilot.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
At the impromptu wedding, surprise wedding of Crystal and Blake
and he got married, he runs, Blake runs into jeff.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Animosity.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
There home girl Fellon shows up and lets him know
she's gonna work with Jeff. Jeff's gonna finance her work together,
to be his competition.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Oh he isn't like that. So I love the power dynamic.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
It's just it's just it's it's like, I'm glad they
said Jeff's up to be it's nemesis on some level
to Blake, but friend to Fallon again, not like the
original series at all. I'm like, wow, this is really
it really works. And of course there's this scene where
(09:02):
Jeff meets Michael Colhane.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
He's talking to Fallon.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
I'm all, there's a white chick between two black men's.
We'll see that very often on TV. Either it's just
CW and just knowing what happens later, how to become
closer and happens.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
I just it's just fun watching.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
The beginnings of all this, like wow, it was a
really At the end, Matthew gets killed, Claudia shows some
crazy talk. My girl Brianna Brown who plays her, she
was a crazy Lisa Niles on g H and KnightShift.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
I love her.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
This was a solid episode and solid section to this.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Jeff Calby dude.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Very very, very cool, and it was fun to rewatch
it after all these years. We're talking before the pandemic
came out, like I seen it in like six seven years.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
So that's my rewatch.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
I'm already watching episode, so who knows, I might do
another episode like this. Who knows. But if it got
me think, let's watch some Mugal episode. That's what's really
about these things. And folks, I know a lot of
these soaps, primetime soaps are being kind of pushed around
(10:20):
on streaming services. I know some of the others are
getting rid of some they brought them all that are
getting rid of them, or they're making them if the
pay for them not free anymore. I mean it's like
I just there's a Plex TV which has a couple
of them on there, and Amazon's doing some weird shit
on theirs. I wish folks, I wish I could create
(10:44):
a streaming service all the primetime soaps and day time too.
But primetime soaps all are one thing for free for you.
But I I don't have that kind of money, or
cloud moment won't be happening. I encourage you, and I've
been doing this myself. I've been buying physical media. I
(11:08):
plan on buying the CW Dynasty. I want all the
episodes on DVD either out. I know I have the
first season of Dynasty on.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
DVD.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
I want to get the Kobe's, the whole series, we
get all the diasties. I want to get all these
so I can have myself to watch whatever I want.
I have a DVD player. I'm a VCR. I a
VCR my iMac. I have a DVD plugin so I
can play my movies out there too. I said, I,
you know, physical media is in right now. It's I'm
(11:42):
going to go on this little tangent, but like it
really is nowadays, and I'm.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Seeing people are buying it.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
We're in a record stores, drift stores, and I'm telling
you it's it's not it's no joke. And I'm seeing
Dynasty dB sets here. I'm just like like, just buy it.
Buy it for two dollars, three dollars, whatever it is,
get it have for your collection if you're a Super
Dynasty fan or a Kolbe's fan or whatever. Just because
(12:12):
it's so STI going out with print, but I'm I'm
trying to make sure because I have all of my
Dallas's DVDs, all you know of all those, So I'm
just I'm just physical prints become more because online is
(12:32):
becoming so erratic.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
So let's just a little thought about that. I'm James,
a Genie.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
