Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back to Entertaining Me. I'm Heatherbrooker. This is a
show where we cover all things entertainment from Sokal to
the silver screen. And this week I am so excited
to share this episode with you because not only are
we talking about some of the biggest movies at the
box office this weekend, like Avatar and The Housemaid, but
my daughter, Channing Brooker is going to be joining us
(00:22):
on Gary and Shannon. She's going to be sharing her
favorite things right now, which are musicals. She's also going
to be talking about what she likes to watch on
TV and also giving her two cents about the movies.
So so excited to have her on. And Gary and
Shannon were such a dream. They're just so much fun.
You guys are definitely going to enjoy this conversation.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Well, we told you about how you know you've made
it in Hollywood and someday think it's an oscar, it's not.
It's getting the Tom Cruise cake around the holidays. And
we mentioned that our actress are working actress here who also.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Moonlights as a KF my news reporter, Heather.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Brooker slums it with us.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Everyone had gifted us the Tom cruise holiday cake, which
was a huge freaking win. Like that cake was delicious
and she thought of us and she give it us
and I'm just tickled pink over it. And not only
do we have Heather here, but we have another actress here,
Heather's daughter, Channing Hi. So we are blessed with two
(01:23):
stars in the studio today. And it just so happens
we do have a theater production coming up in the
next week. Gary writes, so he kind of rewrites a
Christmas Carol for our show, our station, and we acted
out on Christmas Eve. We've missed a couple of years
here and there, but this year we're doing it. And
(01:44):
when I say we, I do nothing, So I feel bad.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
When I say we're doing it, he does it. Yeah,
just like everything else, Gary's doing it.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
I just heard some auditions earlier, so I didn't know
we were all just I would have brought a headshot
and resume.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
I damn me too, I would have We would have
done it together, right.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
It kind of the spur of the moment thing, because
I didn't even know we were doing the play until
I said to Gary, are you going to do it?
Speaker 3 (02:10):
And he said yes, question.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Mark, Yeah, I did say it like that, didn't Uh huh.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
So now you got a long weekend ahead, don't you.
Speaker 6 (02:16):
Yeah, that means that all the Christmas shopping that I
have yet to do is gonna have to wait.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Yeah, until the beginning of the year. Okay, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Makes the play.
Speaker 6 (02:26):
Yeahs appreciate theater.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
We do.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
Oh, I love it.
Speaker 7 (02:30):
I loved it ever since I was eight years old
when I did my first performance in elementary school.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
What was it?
Speaker 5 (02:36):
It was Annie Junior?
Speaker 6 (02:37):
Actually, why does it need to be a junior Because
is it just because there were no adults in the
movie or in the in the production.
Speaker 7 (02:45):
Or it's because Yeah, because I think a little bit
of like expenses, and also we're kids, so.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
It doesn't get into the dark tones of Annie.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Right, there's no like climbing up orphanage.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Stuff gets a little crazy, it's dark.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
I think it's cheaper for them to do the junior version.
They don't have to pay the rights for all the songs,
and yeah, it's all like an hour long. It's like
a shorter versions. Also because it's like four kids. I
believe the junior is meant to like be created and
be directed and actors are supposed to be kids in
the junior.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Yeah, would you have to pay the rights if you
did a children's theater production of Annie and Sue.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Falls, Yes, yeah you would.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
You're supposed to.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
But nobody knows it. Just you know, if a tree falls,
who's going to make that call?
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Somebody will post it on the internet. Some mom will
post it on the internet, and then they'll find it.
You're pretty strict about the copyright.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
In the old days, you probably could get away with it,
but with social media, you're not right.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Yeah, everybody wants to post it on.
Speaker 5 (03:43):
Because everyone.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
Yeah, so what so you like musicals? Yes, okay, music? Yeah,
what's your favorite?
Speaker 5 (03:50):
Heather's the musical?
Speaker 4 (03:51):
I don't I didn't know there.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yes, there's such a pillowcase.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
The movie is a little bit.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
More darker than the musical itself, but in the musical
they definitely make it a little bit more comedic.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Okay, yeah, yeah, it's like a dark comedy in musical
as opposed to the movie, which is just very.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
She let me watch it, my mom, let me talk.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Okay, we don't even tell people.
Speaker 6 (04:12):
I am embarrassed to say that I hated that movie.
I didn't get it. I didn't get the comedy. It
was where I don't know why it was so far
over my head. Did not get it. And I was
in high school when it came out, So when I
did rewatch it in I guess it had to be
in college a few years later. I did not want
to watch it. I hated the idea of it. A
(04:34):
couple roommates were like, this is the greatest movie ever.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
I think once you get past Heather's head as the
croquet ball where you're.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Kind of like what is this, You're like, Oh, I'm
in a different I'm in a.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Different genre of movie, and then you just kind of
I love it the lot.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
I still quote it to this day. Oh you know,
corn nuts, all of it. Okay, So what is your
favorite musical that you have acted in?
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Probably thirteen the musical?
Speaker 7 (05:01):
Maybe No, I would say, Oh my god, my brain
just forgotten our single musical.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Have ever been.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
That was a tough question because it really is hard
to remember all of that, especially when you've done a
bunch of stuff.
Speaker 7 (05:14):
I would say I was in Madagascar at the musical
I played King Julian.
Speaker 6 (05:19):
Okay, wow, a lot of costume, yes, but you got
to see the new avatar fire and.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
Ash, yes I did.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
Okay, so you come from a generation. Do you even
were you alive when the first avatar came out?
Speaker 7 (05:35):
I think so, yes you were. Yeah, she was little,
but a long time ago. I scarcely remember it.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
I never saw it.
Speaker 6 (05:44):
You never saw the first one. I saw the first one.
I could could not care less about any of the others.
It was groundbreaking, the technology that was involved, it was amazing,
it was visually stunning.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Oh yes, done for me.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
I don't care about the other these others because I
don't know how you can expanded upon it. Yeah, I mean,
and that's from the guy who saw that only the
first one. And I'll say that, but is the second
one far enough different from the first to make it
worth watching?
Speaker 4 (06:09):
And now the third one?
Speaker 5 (06:10):
It's in the second one they they like expanded it.
Speaker 7 (06:13):
So they're like, oh my god, there is different regions
of the people on this planet. So I guess in
the second one they expanded more onto like the water people.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
That makes sense, makes sense.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
It's kind of like space wars, right, so different planets
and space wars will will have different Now.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
That was when you turn your headphones down, you don't
have to listen to this part.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
I have this idea channing about a movie. What would
you say, vertical short, no franchise, franchiseise. Yes, it's like
Fast and.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
The Furious but different, but a war in space, and
there's different planets and each planet has like its own thing,
like the forest.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Planet or the water planet, groundbreaking, and so like.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
The first one would be kind of like an overview
and then like the subsequent films would be based on
like the forest plant in it or whatever.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
Oh that's cool.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Yeah, I know what you mean, but you don't have
to say that.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Yes, I'm very excited. I hope that there's a part
from you. And and I'm I'm got my fingers crossed.
Speaker 5 (07:12):
She's a big like space nerd.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yeah, I'm a big thank you for that, but I
am a big space nerd. But to your point, Avatar, yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
You are going to get it talking to as soon
as these you just wait a minute, my.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
Soone's going to be gone in an instant.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
My colleague came, No, I will say with Avatar, it
was this third one very very much like the second one.
We all kind of walked out of there with my
mea chanting and my husband were like that felt like
a longer version of the second film.
Speaker 7 (07:47):
They I think they promoted it as fire and ash,
but there was really a little bit of fire and.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
No ash, a lot of water. Still, it was almost
a beat for beat, the same story as the second one.
Speaker 7 (08:03):
Because in the second one they were like extracting I
don't know liquid from like the whale things. And in
the third movie, I thought they would have learned their lesson,
but they were doing the same thing.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Again, the exact same thing.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
Yeah, technologically, visually is it different than the other? I mean,
do you do you think yourself? Wow, they've come a
long way since the second one.
Speaker 7 (08:22):
Oh for sure since the second one, because they definitely
it felt like they just added another villain to it slightly.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Yeah, Visually it's stunning, still beautiful. We saw it in
three D. Don't think you need to see it in
three D, you know, I mean, if you're really into that.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
It's a little overstimulating.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Yeah, it was a little over sot.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
We got it in like the front row and they're not.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
We were like in the third paple, were you high
or no?
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Next time? Right, I'm trying to cut back for her.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
I understand that.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
So these films so I'm assuming they make a boat
ton of money. Oh yeah, which why why change the
winning formula?
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Why change the formula? Here's the thing that the only
thing I kept thinking was it's three and a half
hours long, you guys, and plus you add half an
hour pretas you're in the theater, four hours. I had
to get up and go. She had to go. The people.
There were some people in the audience, and you know
on opening night who love it. There was a lady
behind us who would not stop talking. She's sharing it on.
Speaker 7 (09:14):
Like when the character Spider, I'm not gonna spoil it,
but he did something and she was like, whoa, it
was really she was really into it.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
She was into it.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
How do we feel.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
About people who talk in theaters during movie?
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Me? Too, depends on the movie.
Speaker 7 (09:25):
But that's a bit hypocritical, because every if I'm watching
movie where I'm really into it, I'll turn to the
person next to me. If I know that, I'm like, hey,
something's gonna happen right now. Now, I'll do they're gonna do this,
watch this.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Yeah, but you don't say it out loud for everybody.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
That's the difference.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Yeah, but it's good. It's visually, it's stunning. He hasn't
done anything. It doesn't seem like it's done anything particularly
groundbreaking from the second film. It feels like a longer
version of the second film, and it's there's so many
layers on layers of storylines where it's a little hard
to keep up at times where you're like, wait, now,
why are we doing this? And why aren't they doing this?
(09:59):
And wait, I thought couldn't breathe with a mask, but
now we can. And so it's just a it's just
a lot. It's a lot that there's still two more
movies to come. No, yeah, even James Cameron's tired of this,
he's got to be. It felt like the dials on
the dialogue, it felt like he was tired of the
AI takes over.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
I have a question that I always want to ask
real life actresses or actors.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
I guess I should say, I don't know what.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
The thing is, and I want to ask you when
we come back. It's just the question of like, is
there a show on or a movie franchise on that
you're like I need to be a part of that.
I really want, like this is the perfect role for me,
This is what I want to do. I'd be perfect
in this, like do you have that thought? And Gary,
you'll be included as well. You're also channing. Garry is
(10:44):
also an actor.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Do you mean the current show or can it be
something in the past?
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Also, it can be Yeah, it can be in the past.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
I want to hear that.
Speaker 6 (10:51):
And you also saw did you see Housemaid? There's a
lot of nudity in that.
Speaker 7 (10:57):
Oh yes, really, I don't think I should be hearing
of that movie.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Feel like I've read that. We're going to talk about
both of those for sure. Yeah, yeah, I think you'll
you will like the little new one for sure.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Your question again for for Oh yes, I always wonder
this for people working in Hollywood, and we have to.
And Gary is in theater as well.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
And I don't think you've done Have you done TV
or movies?
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Gary?
Speaker 4 (11:24):
No? Okay, the yet?
Speaker 3 (11:26):
You haven't done them yet.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
I heard you Morgan and I.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
Was like, oh, yeah, that will be probably first of
the year. We'll be doing a couple episodes of Leanne.
And then I was cut out of a made for
TV movie on the siege at Ruby Ridge.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Ah, there you is that a real thing?
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Nobody knows that? Yes, for TV movie. I don't know,
you just said it like it was like a famous one.
Nobody chanting.
Speaker 6 (11:53):
It would be like twenty years before you were born.
But there was Yeah, okay, white supremacist guy caught in them?
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Right? What's Central cast?
Speaker 1 (12:01):
B Be Ridge.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
His name was Weaver, Randy Weaver. Okay, no, something like that. Okay, anyway,
FBI goes again. I was one of the FBI s watcats.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
All right, did you get to wear a vest?
Speaker 1 (12:12):
No?
Speaker 4 (12:12):
I were full camo though.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
That's cool.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
Yeah, that's cool. It's very hot that day. Okay.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
But Heather and Channing are actual actors in Hollywood?
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Is there? My question is this is there like a
show you're watching or you have watched.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
We're like, that is my role?
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Like I could I would kill that role or one
that you want, or a franchise or anything like that.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Do you want to go first to when you go first,
you can go first? Okay, So if it's a show
that is not on anymore, I would have loved to
have been on Star Trek Next Generation because I'm a nerd,
as Jenny said, a space nerd. Because also think of
all the cons I could go too and sign autographs
I so many cons, so many cons. I also really
(12:55):
would have loved to have been on Well, if it's
a show that's on right now. I love the Boys.
It's kind of a dark like sci fi show on
Amazon Prime. I love White Lotus. I would love to
be on that show. Yeah, just for the vacation right
four months and somewhere tropical. Honestly, every every show that
I watched that is really smart. I'm like, I wish
(13:16):
I was on this show.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
But there's not like a character.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Well, I really wish that I have gotten to play
Molly on Mike and Molly because I auditioned for that,
and it.
Speaker 6 (13:27):
Was how far did you get that role? I mean
I got to probably ended up nowhere? Right, Oh yeah,
I know Melissa something, she.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Ended up nowhere probably Yeah. That and the and the
role in Bridesmaids. But both of those roles are roles
I was up for Wow, but did not get So do.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
You know how far you got in the problem? I do.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
I was in the room with Chuck Lori and his
producing team. I was at the callback. So apparently, the
way I understand it from my agent said that they
knew they were going to give it to Mlissa McCarthy
because he had written the role for Melissam maccarth, but
she was nine months pregnant and she wasn't sure she's
going to take it. And I was like, of course
she's going to take it. That's crazy. She's going to
pop that kid out and get on TV show. That's
what I would do, no offense.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
But.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
I would do the same.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
I know you, that's my girl. But that's when you're
in the room and they're like, you're so funny, you're great,
thank you so much, and then you see it kind
of happen and somebody else does it. And when you're
on the way to audition for Bride'smaids and it was
called untitled Kristen Wig Project, and you get the call
that like, hey, she's going to cast one of her friends.
They don't need you, And I was like, no, that
(14:34):
happened to me multiple times. There was a show also,
a show called Samantha Who that I had auditioned for
that she got. So there's been many sliding door, sliding
windows moments like that, So those for sure, But.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Maybe you should meet her, maybe you should introduce herself
to her.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
I think that though I might be bitter.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
I would totally keep that hope like of being in
the room with Chuck Laurie and then being like, you're
so funny and you're so good, like maybe they'll think.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Of me in the future. Maybe they will. Yes, that's
sort of what has kept me going. But what about you, money,
what do you think?
Speaker 7 (15:04):
I would say any sort of like mockumentary TV show
like examples The Office, Saint Dennis, Medical Abbot, Elementary, Like
I I watched those shows so much and they do
make me laugh a lot, So I feel like any
role on those.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
Good roles such a great genre.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
I am really into stumble right now.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Yes, yes, the Cheerleading West as a recovering cheerleader myself.
I love that show. And I was like the accuracy
of being in the South and being in cheer is
is pretty spot on. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
I love all the j C juniors. Oh yeah, all
that stuff too, Sammy Davis Junior Junior College, all about
it's so good, so good.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Yeah, you're right, Charing, that would just be like fun.
I would imagine that would just be fun all the.
Speaker 7 (15:48):
Time, and I would like have fun with my fellow castmates.
We would go out for parties if I was older,
we'd go to the bar like.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Whoa, I was like twenty one, Okay, I know, I'm like,
what am I hearing?
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Oh my gosh, Well, thank you, ladies, this has been fun.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Thank you. Are we done?
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Wait?
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Are we gonna talk? We're out of time. We're gona
talk about Housemaid. House Maid is really good and creepy
and has a nice twist. Go see, I think I
heard the audience. Yeah, there's a lot of nudity in
the Housemaids.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
So if you're a kid, don't watch it.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Sidney Sweeney, So the So what's the premise. The woman
and a man live in a house. They hire a
housemaid to take care of the house. Yes, and then
they all end up having sex with the husband.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Not at the same time. Okay, but I think that
does differ. Yes, it's definitely fun. It's definitely has a
nice little twist to it. The audience was really into it,
cheering it along, having a good time, as long as
you know going into it what it's about.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
So it's Sydney's Sweeney and who else.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Amanda si Free Okay, they look very similar. They do,
but that's kind of part of the a little bit
of a nod to the story a.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
Little I see, I see.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
It's a great dark comedy. I think people really enjoy.
But please be advised. There is a lot of.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Nudity, full full nudity, even men's.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Parts, but just butts.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
Oh okay.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
A lot of violence too, it's very violent.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
Oh yeah, that's great.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
So you can't go to this one.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
Gosh darn it, I don't get to see naked butts.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
No, no, you don't.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Oh disappoint You have the Internet.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
That's gonna do it for entertainment. Thanks for listening. You
can listen anywhere on the iHeartRadio app.
