Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome back to entertainment. I'm your host, Heather Brooker. This
is a show where we talk about all things entertainment
from SoCal to the silver screen. This weekend, this Halloween weekend,
we are talking about actually very few offerings that are
being sent over to the box office. Not a lot
of movies opening this weekend. I think it's because studios
(00:23):
are afraid that they won't do well, that people are
going to go out to their Halloween parties instead of
going to the movies. So not allowed to choose from
this weekend. But don't you worry. We still have a
lot of fun talking about everything from entertainment news to
dressing up for Halloween and the top horror movies of
all time.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
This week on Gary and Shannon.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Heather Brooker provided us with sunshine this morning because she
dressed up for Halloween.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Yes, somebody, Yeah, it's about time. That's really nice.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
It's really It does give a boost around here of
morale when somebody dresses up for Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
We tried that, can I dress up like a turkey?
Speaker 3 (01:04):
God?
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Please?
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Is this the permission that I need to dress up
like a turkey?
Speaker 3 (01:07):
I don't know why, but Halloween makes me think of
Thanksgiving right away, Like I woke up this morning thinking
about Thanksgiving foods.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Tomorrow is the day we can start officially celebrating Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Tomorrow starts Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
We're twenty seven days of Thanksgiving. Every day is a
different dish.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
That's fine, guys.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
I have been sitting like this in the booth and
the news booth since three o'clock this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
You kind of look like a serial going.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
I was literally like if people can only see me
talking about the murdered death and destruction looking like this, Yeah, it's.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Psychopath stuff because you're middo is painted.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
I will never turn down an opportunity to dress up.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Just please know that. Really that is the actor in me.
I'm like, you have do you have a character? Does
it have an arc?
Speaker 2 (01:50):
We'll like get to wear a costume.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
What if we gave you a character, like on a
random Tuesday, Let's do it, Like just texted you, Yeah,
let's do it.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
I mean I'm off on Tuesdays, but if you need me, here,
me here.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Like tomorrow is you know, whatever Circus day or whatever,
Let's do it.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
That's just like fun.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
I have a whole costume full of like I want
to say, like costumes maybe, but like wardrobe, because when
you're auditioning a lot, you have to be ready to
like put on something that looks kind of like a
doctor outfit or something that looks like maybe you're in
the ren Fair.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
I don't know whatever it is. I have a whole
closet full of costumes. Do you have a bodice for
the ren Fair? I do. Yeah, Okay, we're gonna have
to do bodice day. It's like, hell, yeah, I'm gonna
have to choose which one. Everyone get out your course.
It's okay. Big horror movie person, No, I don't. I
(02:41):
don't love horror movies. I love Halloween. I loved them
when I was a kid.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
I mean I remember, you know, going over to my
girlfriend's house. We're sixth seventh grade Vanessa, and we would
watch the scariest movies.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Did you like being scared? You like the feeling? Must have?
But then I get I grew out of it. I
get too scared. I haven't seen any of the Saw
movies or anything like that.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Well, those I don't consider those. Those are suspenseful, but
I don't consider them scary. Like there's a difference between
a thriller, horror movie, and the jump scare style conjuring.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
There's like people's bodies, there's like.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Evil, then there's like gore, and then there's like slasher film.
There's so many different genres and types of what falls under.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
I think the horror movie and Halloween type movie.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
I remember liking this movie, The Lady in White from
nineteen eighty eight actually involves Halloween. I liked flowers in
the attic. Yes, flowers in the you know, I like
that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Yeah, a little dark, a little like uh, suspenseful maybe,
and you're kind of like, where is this going?
Speaker 2 (03:50):
What is this? Could this happen in real life?
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Yeah? I've never been a fan of the jump out
of your seat scared or gore scary.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yeah, no, thank you?
Speaker 3 (04:00):
That was Why was that necessary? That was like the
crazy mom with the god stuff, but the blood was
too much.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Well, you know what's really crazy is that this is
the first time since twenty and fourteen that like the
opening weekend or whatever for some movies has fallen on Halloween.
So because of that, historically a lot of people.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Don't go to the movies tonight. They're going to Halloween parties.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
They're going out to the La Haunted hay Ride or
you know whatever, and so big studios do not release
major pictures motion pictures this weekend. Why didn't I sell
you an old timey radio major motion picture.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I say that all the time. True story.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
They're not releasing any big titles this weekend, so there
isn't going to be a lot of activity at the
box office. But what is coming out. Netflix is re
releasing Okay, Pop Demon Hunters.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
They're going to try to bring.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
The extended version. Yeah, it's like, I want to see
the extended version. They cut out so much.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
They cut out so much.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
I don't know if it's going to be the extended
version or not, but I think this is a pure
cash grab. They know that parents with young kids and parents,
you know, not necessarily just parents, but like people were
fans of the movie are going to go see it again.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
I love also in the theater. In the theater, That's
what I was going to say.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Just watch it anytime on Netflix, yes, but also this weekend,
if you want to have that experience again in the theaters,
you can totally go and watch it again. Black Phone
two is still hanging in there. It's in that horror element.
So people who are going to go see the movie
are going to see that. They're also going to go
see the other big scary movie this weekend, Chainsawman. But
in general, they are not expecting any major chainsaw Man.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
You can't even mask it or get creative.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Yeah, they're definitely not expecting any major movement at the
box office weekend. So go out and enjoy your Halloween
parties and whatnot and skip maybe skip the movies this weekend.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Uh, don't go anywhere. Can you stick around one more
second before you go home? And watch this stuff?
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Off my face?
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Mayra wrote twists. She says, tell Gary to cheer up.
He sounds sad today. I think it was your daylight
saving rand thing.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
I'm fair, listen, I'm ecstatic about the way everything turned
out yesterday. When we went to it was perfect. First
of all, we thought the cops were there to arrest us,
and they were there to celebrate criminal We didn't, And
I would have said that if they had asked me
to classic.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
You guys, it sounded so fun. I was back here
having major fomo like, oh I want.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
To be you know, we heard you, we wanted you
there and that new pizza that they debuted yesterday for us.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Did you either the rest of that in the car? No?
I did not. I wanted to, but I have white seats.
So white seats are four pepperoni an absolute mess. Marcel
Brooks has joined us.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
It's starting to get itchy. I'm trying really hard not
to touch my face.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
Do that for I mean, you're working on seven hours,
eight hours.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
I'm trying not to.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
I'm sure there's gonna be like weird swipes and scratches
and you can see where I've touched my face a
million times.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
But I'm just like, I'm ready to go. Are you
going to do for the rest of the day. Yeah,
I'm going to sleep.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
So hard because I gotta be back here at freaking
five tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
I mean, I love it, I love I love my job.
Saturday at five, what happens? Don't forget to turn your
clock ahead back tonight? No tomorrow night? Do it?
Speaker 1 (07:17):
So?
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Are you anchoring on tomorrow?
Speaker 1 (07:19):
Ancher on Saturdays and Sundays? Yeah, I'm here with Dean.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
Sharp, butad tonight one hour and then Sunday morning you
go back two hours.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
You get two extra hours to sleep. What I don't
think that's mauthematically pot I think that's how it works,
do you.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
One of my favorite things to do would be to
get off morning drive and then to eat something nice
and warm, and then, especially this time, you're.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Like, what do you what do you? What do you
have in mind?
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Like comfort food stuff like the warm or a full
or a mac and cheese or something like that, because
I feel like it just it coaxes you into the slumber.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Yes it does. I'm yeah, warm foods. It had to
be warm was my thing. That's funny. There isn't nice
warm fall feeling right now.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
I couldn't like go home after morning drive anita sandwich
like I needed something warm. Yeah, I needed something warm anyway. Sorry,
that's a weird thing. It's a fun fact.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Sorry. I'm gonna add that time tomorrow. All right. What
else is coming up entertainment wise?
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Okay, so this weekend there is another thing you can
check out if you're a fan of Back to the
Future fortieth anniversary guys. Back to the Future came out
forty years ago this weekend. Can you believe that was
I didn't realize it was an October movie. I just
assumed it was a summer movie. No, I think it
was exactly forty years ago. Usually they have the re
releases like at or around the same time it came
(08:39):
out forty years prior. But if you're a fan of
that movie, check it out. I loved Back to the Future.
It was a classic. It literally, to this day is
probably one of the most quotable, you know, eighties counties.
But I want to talk to you guys about Halloween movies,
shall we? So I have a list here in my
hands from Collider. Have you guys heard of Collider website.
(09:00):
They're really on top of their entertainment news and movies
and whatnot, and they've ranked the greatest horror movies of
the last forty years, not of all time. We're gonna
just narrow it down to the last forty years. And
this list has some surprising, surprising titles on it. So
I'm curious to know what.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
You're writing the thirty Freddy Krueger stuff. I did.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
I did enjoy that, Yeah night, Maren elm Street like
jumping out of the mattress with his with his long nails.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
The Collider is like kind of a I'm gonna say
this nicely alternative bougie. We think we're film criticy, then
I probably won't my falutin.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Maybe, as they say, so, maybe.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Something something not a blockbuster. You know, I'll give you
a number ten get out.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Oh that was a good one, great love. Would you
say that was a horror movie? A thriller?
Speaker 4 (09:50):
But again we talked differences different genres in horror, so
definitely suspenseful thriller.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Any other guesses are things that you think of you
might mean, why can tell you what some of them
mar if?
Speaker 2 (10:01):
He once? Yeah, so sixth sense, I see dead people.
I don't think of that as a horrible to me?
Speaker 3 (10:07):
That was suspense, Yeah, suspense, Okay, I do like these
this list though. These are all movies that I like
as opposed to the gore and he's.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Had he being a m Night Shemalin has had scarier
movies than that.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Yeah, I understand that.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
What's he like night Shamala Shamalama. I'm sure he's just
rich and I'm sure he's rich. He's fine right now.
Concerned about him he's doing?
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Okay? Is he an older guy? Younger guy? He's fifty five.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
He's not like old old, he's middle aged. Tell me
if you want you think about this one? Godzilla minus
one never heard of it, right, nothing in the last
couple of years. I don't think should be on this list.
Black Swan I never saw that, but I've heard good things.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
I've watched it several times, hoping to kickstart some sort
of anorexia.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
It never never were It never sticks. Still I'm still
working on mine over here. Keeps coming out.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Ah.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
I've heard cocaine helps, but I'm I'm too scared. It's
too old to try.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Expensive heart will stop at this adage.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
That's what I'm afraid of, is I'm like, oh man,
I don't miss co cab it at forty five.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
That's just tragic. Well, just eat some bad meat. Good lord,
I missed my cocaine window, all right?
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Uh? Scream you did Scream? I never saw that classic? Yeah,
I never saw it. I missed like all those like
late nineties. Yeah, I know what you did last summer tapes.
I missed all that.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Is that. Should I go back and do that?
Speaker 1 (11:37):
I mean maybe for Scream for sure, just because it's
such a cultural moment and so many people to this
day still dress up as the with the Scream mask,
you know. Yeah, so Sinners from earlier this year, just
this year. Yeah, I never saw I mean no, not
that I ever saw that. But I don't know that
this one is in the top. People love it though,
(12:00):
they thought it was great. This movie, though, number four
on this list, I think is incredible movie, misery.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Great movie, fantastic, fantastically acted, all of it.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Yeah, I love all the Stephen King movies.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
I know that he's not a fan of a lot
of the movie adaptations of his books, but I've enjoyed
all those, all the scary ones too, Kujoe Christine, all
that crap.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
I know, stand by Me wasn't a scary one, but
that's definitely one of my personal favorite movies ever. Like,
I just thought it was such a great movie, and
I had a crush on all those guys.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
And I don't know this movie. You guys, let the
right one in. You heard of this. Let the Right
One in?
Speaker 1 (12:40):
A movie about how tough growing up is, especially when
you're a social outcast.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
That sounds right up your alley.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Right, Well, thank you for dressing up. You've brought a
little bit, it says, horror slash romance, and there is
new to day oh.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Oh in that case, well, just so you know, the
Fly was number one on their list for Collide and
Silence of the Lambs was number two.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
That's a good one. Yeah again, not horror, though not horror.
I've questioned use of the word horror.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
When he's got the night vision goggles on in the
basement and that's very body. Oh is there a baby?
Is there a prequel?
Speaker 2 (13:19):
I didn't see tired, I'm tired? What the loads about
the baby? I just made it weird. I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
In hindsight, was it really that bad to just have
to put lotion on nows? Do it next time you're
in the hose?
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Sounds much worse. Gary and Shannon will thanks to you
guys at the Halloween.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
That's your Halloween box office report on Gary and Shannon,
I'm only on KFI. What do you think was your
favorite movie on the list? Did you think they were
horror movies or were those more just kind of scary
spooky movies. Either way, I hope you have a wonderful Halloween,
enjoy some time with friends and family, and we'll see
you back here next week for more entertainment news. Thanks
(14:00):
for listening, everybody. Remember you can listen everywhere on the
iHeartRadio app,
