Speaker 1 (00:01):
I'm Heather Brooker. Welcome back to entertain Me, your source
for entertainment news from SoCal to the silver screen. This
week on our weekly box office report, we're talking about
The Roses. It is a remake of the very funny,
very dark comedy The War of the Roses, and we're
going to be diving into Austin Butler's new movie Caught Stealing,
(00:23):
and of course I'm breaking it all down on the
Gary and Channon Show.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
What is your damage, Heather.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
I am the father.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
That's the vista baby.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
This is entertainment News.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
On Fridays.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
We like to get ahead of a couch time figure
out what we're going to be looking at this weekend.
And Heather Brooker joins us to talk more about this
sham mentioned this. I haven't seen the trailers for it yet,
but I actually heard an interview with Olivia Coleman recently
about the movie The Roses.
Speaker 5 (01:09):
I'm so excited, Like every time I see this preview
in the theater, I am super excited to see something
I haven't seen yet. In whatever trailer I've already seen, it.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Is just as fun as you imagine. I love the
original of course was great and like had like Kathleen
Turner in it, Michael Douglass. They had unbelievable chemistry and
made you think, ooh, divorce could be really fun.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
I want to do that someday.
Speaker 5 (01:33):
I want a toxic relationship where we almost kill each other.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Why aren't we all in those right now? But this
imagine just as biting.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
But like with Brits.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
You know, Olivia Coleman, ben at A Cumberbatche probably two
of the best actors working right now, smart, witty, charming
writing again, upping the anti on every divorce antic that
you could think of. So's it's it's really fun. I
think it's going to do well at the box office
this weekend.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
For sure.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
I can't wait. I think I'm going to see it
in the theater.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
Yeah, it's usually something that I wouldn't i'd wait for it,
but I'm just so excited. I just I loved that
original so much, and I don't know why because I
was a small child.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
I'm just gonna say I, Well, I.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Think it was because honestly, of the chemistry between the
two actors. That's a real testament to a movie standing
the test of time.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
And I like the back and forth how they would
match wits with each other.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
They do that in this one too.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
I mean everyone's going to compare it to the original,
but they definitely do this too, and it's really fun
to watch. Can I tell you something really quickly though,
or you give something to you? I have a little
level of present for you.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
All right? So we tickle?
Speaker 4 (02:44):
We got plenty.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
I got you just said is it a tickle?
Speaker 6 (02:47):
And I'm like, come on, Gary, can we say pickle
tickle or not pickle tickle?
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, but we can't do it?
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Oh say it?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Well? I thought we weren't shutting the door on love
on Pickle.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Day, So you know, I went to the Downtown Abbey
event Sweet screening and I got you guys a little song.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
My goodness, it is my god, it is a top hat.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Open it up?
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Oh I think it's opening the other way. Yeah, open
it up.
Speaker 5 (03:15):
It is.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
I'm scared.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
But turn it upside down? Is it a top hat?
I don't know. Is it gonna know nothing's gonna come out?
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Or is it a popcorn bucket?
Speaker 3 (03:23):
A bucket? That's hilarious.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I feel like we've seen these before.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
How cool is that?
Speaker 1 (03:28):
That is a top hat? Popcorn bucket? That you can
take when you go and watch Downton Abbey.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
It is a top hat. Love it.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
It's a small and then when you bring it home,
I'll put it on my head.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
There you go, so I can put it on my head.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
No, no, don't do that, because then you're gonna put
popcorn in it.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
I will have like little hairs in your popcorn.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
How cool is it?
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Isn't that?
Speaker 3 (03:46):
And even there probably is?
Speaker 2 (03:49):
This isn't that fun? So yeah, so I was like.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
How many pickles you could fit in here?
Speaker 2 (03:53):
All the pickles?
Speaker 1 (03:54):
I cannot wait for a lot of pickles you could
fit in here. That's like old timey radio.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Are we on?
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Are we on the radio?
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Barely?
Speaker 5 (04:03):
Well?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
So you can take that to your movie next time.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
You go to see Thank You, You're welcome. I don't
play with my mister Darcy's hand that.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Has has You don't want it, you can put it
in the news.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
Has Austin Butler gotten rid of his Elvis accent yet?
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Really yes?
Speaker 1 (04:18):
And he's also brought a little bit of abs to
this new movie Caught Stealing He's in. He's totally buffed
out in this movie. And he is playing Catt Steel
and he's playing a California guy who moves to the
East Coast in New York and he starts working at
a bar, trying to stay out of trouble like you do,
but trouble.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Finds him anyway.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
What what what is this Current?
Speaker 5 (04:42):
Is?
Speaker 3 (04:42):
It set in.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Current, set in nineteen ninety eight New York. So it
has very much like a gen X feel to a
lot of flannels, a lot of like New York punk
rock guys, you know, stirring up trouble with their mohawks
and they're weird piercings. And it's a fun movie. It's
Darren Aronofsky. It's grimy, it's gritty. There's a lot of action,
(05:05):
a lot of violence, a lot of sexy stuff between
him and his leading lady, Zoe Kravitz. And if you're
not into the roses, this is a wonderful alternative, really
fun show. I loved the theming of it, the nineties
theming of it.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
It was fun.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
And then Toxic Avenger. They're breathing life back into that thing.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
And I know, who knew.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
We needed another Toxic Avenger movie, but this one has
got Peter Dinklagen. Do you guys remember the were you
ever watching it?
Speaker 4 (05:34):
Vaguely? I don't remember watching it.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I remember it was it kind of a.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Very much like a B movie, right, like remember it? Yeah,
it was very niche, and I feel like no one
was really clamoring for another one because there's been quite
a few toxic Avenger movies throughout the years. Well now,
Peter Dinklage is in this one as Winston Goose, a
single father struggling to raise his son Wade, played by
Jacob Trumbley. I don't know, guys, it's it's just a.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Weird horror kind of movie.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
It seems like an action movie, like a Marvel type movie,
but it's a hero.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
He's a hero.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
But it's not gonna If you're thinking you're going to
see the Avengers, you're not.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
That's funny that I didn't even think about that connection.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
But yeah, The USA Today wrote it up as Peter
Dinklage revisits a taboo fath fave from youth.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah why was it taboo?
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Because he was kind of the anti hero from what
I remember her. Yeah, it wasn't.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
It's definitely a darker type of B movie, and it
also wasn't done very well like it was those movies
where you could see the special effects weren't very special. Yeah,
bad bad, practical bad practical effects, brad practical bad practical makeup.
And I think that people who loved that genre movie
and loved that time period will want to revisit it.
(06:50):
It's very niche.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
Shannon said she's going to download the entire Thursday Murder
Club series so she can watch it on the airplane.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Yes, I thought about you when I saw this. I
was like, this feels like it's right up your alley.
So if you don't want to go onto the movies,
or you don't have any plans for Labor Day weekend,
this is going to be a fun watch. Talk about
amazing actors Helen, Mirren, Pierce, Brosman, Ben Kingsley, like the
cream of the crop of of classic actors.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
So many.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
One of the headlines I read said, gum shoes in
their golden years. It's like a murder she wrote for
like British people and they're like in their seventies and eighties,
Sullivan murders.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
It's a very successful book series. Oh it is okay, Yeah,
I didn't know that.
Speaker 6 (07:33):
I feel like every Yes, yeah, on Thursday Night yeah,
that's when I started reading the book something maybe a year,
fell asleep an hour ago.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Well, she's coming fresh off of nipple. No, it's the nipples.
The last show she watched was Hunting Wives and then
she tried hostage. And nothing's going to bring back the nipples.
Not the Thursday Murder Club either, I guess it.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
I too.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Deborah wasn't here when we talked about Honey Don't. So
that movie will keep Deborah on awake if she liked
Hunting Wives. So you gotta watch that one, Deborah, Honey Don't.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
I don't know. I don't, I don't.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
I don't think so it's a Cohen Brothers movie or
Ethan Cohen movie, violence and sex. I don't think she
likes violence. She just likes the nipples.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
I know what Debora likes. But here's the thing. I Deborah.
Speaker 5 (08:29):
I started reading this book because it came this author
and the book series came so well recommended, and I
got bored with it, just like you did with the show.
I stopped reading the book, which is kind of rare,
and I thought, well, maybe I already visit it because
everyone talks about how lovable these characters are.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Yeah, I think it's for a specific demographic. Remember Grace
and Frankie, the Netflix show Grace Frankie.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
But I got bored.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
I know.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
But I think it's maybe not for your age group.
I think maybe people are starting to make a few
more things old show. Yeah, I think it's maybe for
the older demographic. But no judgment if you're in your
twenty Are there any shows.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
With nipples on the horizon?
Speaker 2 (09:12):
All of them? Really? As a matter of fact, I
have a show coming. No, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 6 (09:17):
If I was like, hey, she's like in the one
o'clock hour, everybody please put your shirts back on.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
We will not. We will not.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Gary, there's pickles on the horizon. Yeahs, all right, thanks
so much for listening to Entertaining. You can listen anytime
anywhere on the iHeartRadio app.
