Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome back to entertain Me. I'm Heather Brooker. This is
a show where we talk about all things entertainment news
from socaal to the silver screen. And this week on
the Weekly Entertainment Report with Gary and Shannon, we are
going deep on Die My Love, the new Jennifer Lawrence
film that is getting some mixed reviews but mostly raves
for her performance. But people are a bit confused by
(00:24):
the film itself. Uh, don't worry. I've got you covered.
I saw it and I thought it was good. I
thought it was interesting. I thought you should know what
you're getting into, though, So we're gonna break all that
down on Gary and Shannon and also Michael Monks and
I KFI reporter Michael Monks and I. We get into
some beef, some unexpected beef, and we're gonna let all
(00:45):
that play out in this week.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Take a listen.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Heather Brooker joins us. Heather, it's here for a weekend
entertainment report.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
What is your damage, Heather?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
This is entertainment news.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Ooh boy, get behind on some of the stuff that's
coming out, and I get worried about it.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
But we am a lot to talk about. You guys
can we talk.
Speaker 5 (01:13):
About I need to know the backstory of this All's Fair,
the female driven defense attorney firm show with Kim Kardashian
and Glenna I mean, it's got all these huge stars
in Kim Kardashian, it's a Ryan Murphy than massive stars,
and it's zero percent of rotten Tomatoes. It's the reviews
(01:36):
are awful. I gave it twelve seconds of my life
and found it to be uncomfortable.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
It is probably one of the worst shows I've ever
seen with some of the most incredible actresses working here. Yes,
minus so Kim kardash what's the backstory? Did she pay
for this? Is this a past thousand percent? Okay, yeah,
one thousand percent. You you can tell that she has
been involved in the production from how it's stylized, from
how they speak to each other. It's there's kind of
(02:03):
this saying in acting and also probably radio, that you're
only as good as the people around you, and if
you're surrounded by people who are great, the idea is
that you're you know, a rising tide lifts all boats
kind of a thing. But there's something about Kim Kardashian
where she has managed to take all of these award
winning actresses and sort of bring them down a like
(02:26):
less than soap opera level of acting. It's sad, it's
can't be, it's cheesy, and it's it's completely missed the
mark for like I think, for probably what they were intending.
But a couple of things. First of all, Michael Monks
is not really an actor. Doing high school theater does
not count as an actor. I just want to say that.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Number two, So that was all.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Yes, he couldn't remember the names of the plays that
he's been in in there, so don't get me started, right,
I only say that knowing he's gonna fight me when
I go again. Also, Gary, I'm excited for your play.
Appreciate that's so cool. The I love the photo. Michael
is sharing it with everybody. Yes, he's obsessed. We're all obsessed. Also,
(03:08):
here's my deal, guys, AMC theaters counter days because we
got beef. I went to a special screening of Die
My Love starring Jennifer Lawrence, and they said that after
the movie there was going to be can I share
this story really quick? There's going to be a Q
and A with Jennifer Lawrence. So I was like, oh, cool,
maybe I'll get like a asking question. I don't know,
(03:30):
maybe like a real journal, the Boka Kiva News. So
we're sitting there at the movie ends, and I thought
it was kind of weird.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
They didn't bring on any chairs or anything.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Usually there's pr people running around, making things feel very stressful,
and we're all kind of sitting there.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
At the end of the.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Movie, the lights go out full theater, mind you, lights
go out, and then they bring up on the screen
a live stream from New York of Jennifer Lawrence doing
a Q and A at another AMC.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Oh no.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Literally, people were like, what in the double hockey stick? Like,
what is happening? And then the guy comes on and
starts talking and the audio is so loud it nearly
bursts our ear drums everyone in the theater.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
The guy behind me goes, what the mother fuking? Oh
my god, and people are like, this is bull short.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Obviously I'm editing, and people literally the whole audience got
up and left and they were cussing and swearing, I've
wasted my time.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
I'm so mad. I'm like, AMC theaters, count your days.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Do not say that you're going to have a live
Q and A with the star of the film. Make
these people spend twenty bucks for a ticket? Yeah, and
then she's like live stream and we can't even understand
the audio because it's over. So anyway, that being said,
let's talk about Die My Love, shall we?
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Is it die Comma My Love?
Speaker 5 (04:47):
No?
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Just all the way through Die My Love.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
So Jennifer Lawrence is in this along with Edward from Twilight.
I think he has a real name, Robert Pattinson.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
He does, he does. He's not my favorite obviously Batman.
Obviously I was team Jacob.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
I won't don't say Twilight. Let's at least make a Batman. Okay,
So this Jacob better?
Speaker 1 (05:10):
You like ja? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Team Jacob. So this movie is.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
I mean, I watched those movies in my thirties, so
did I.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
There's no shame.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
There's no shame in the Twilight. This movie was very visceral.
I don't know how else to describe it. It's very intense.
It's from a production new production company that's doing really
interesting work called Movie and Movie did the Substance. They're
doing a lot of really interesting films. This movie is dark,
(05:40):
it's it's kind of gives a hint that it's about
postpartum depression, but it's not that on the nose with it.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
It's set up almost like.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
A thriller that sounds awful.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
It does sound awful, but it's and it's not great.
It's not if you're how do I put this in?
Speaker 5 (06:00):
Underplay and charge tale that follows a woman's slow descent
into postpartum psychosis. Yes, who's gonna pay money to go
see that? That sounds awful?
Speaker 1 (06:08):
We all did thinking we were gonna meet Jennifer Lawrence, right,
So it's different. Yeah, it's different. So it's it's a
beautifully shot movie. It's really interesting storytelling. It's kind of
chopped up in a way that makes you wonder, like,
where is it going?
Speaker 2 (06:20):
What are we doing?
Speaker 1 (06:22):
She does a fantastic job and at Robert Pattinson is great.
Sissy Spasic is in this, you guys, and Nick Nolty
like some legends in this as well. It's a really
interesting movie. And if you like original stories that sort
of harken back to this indie kind of a feel, that's.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
What this is.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
And it has some thrillery elements into it that make
it more fun and interesting than just like a postpartum
depression kind of a movie.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
I do want to warn.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Everybody though, there is multiple shots of full frontal nudity
in this male and female female, and lots of graphic
sex scenes, so please be advised.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Debra, did you hear that?
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Sexy?
Speaker 5 (07:00):
Yeah, there's apparently a new Jennifer Lawrence movie. It's about
postpartum depression. But wait, there's more a lot of sex
in it.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
So yeah, the first part doesn't do anything me neither.
It's the sex worth Heather all the postpartus.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yeah, it's a lot of like masturbation, lots of lots
every few seconds. I was like uncomfortable, and I think
the point of the movie though was to make you uncomfortable,
and everybody.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Was masturbation will do that, yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
A little bit.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
But Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lawrence is great in it.
Already talking about Oscar buzz for this movie, and I
for sure think that she will get nominated for this film.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Really, Okay, all right, for sure?
Speaker 1 (07:39):
I mean she shows everything and that seems to be
you know what, dominated.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
I guess, I guess, so I know changes my show.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
You're here to get fully naked today and now you
want to earn it with your chops. Oh, you know
you weren't going to, but now.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
I wouldn't take it all off nomination, but take around
for the third act for Gary Hoffman's.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
I was just going to say something so appropriate for
the break, which is yeah.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
Various articles from two thousand and eight and nine about
different roles he has played. He capped it off with
I am an actor, and he stormed out of here.
He was in The pillow Man in Falcon Theater. He
was also nominated for Musical Actor in a Leading Role
(08:35):
when he was the narrator. And this is how it goes,
brought to you by the Ovation Theater Company there in Cincinnati.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Do they even do this around here? Did they do
regional funny nominations?
Speaker 2 (08:47):
We have the Ovation Awards, Yeah, they definitely do that.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Yeah, and the Desk Awards something Desk Awards, Yeah, they
definitely do.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Well.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Congratulations Michael Monks on your illustrious acting career.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Are you too competitive with everything?
Speaker 2 (09:06):
No? We just like to bust each other's Can I
say chops?
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (09:09):
I can't say the other one?
Speaker 5 (09:10):
Ass you can say, ah, we definitely don't do that,
but it's not what's happening?
Speaker 4 (09:15):
You guys are missing all of the euphemisms I was saying.
I was going to say ball, Yes, that's.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
What she was going to say. Why would you say
bust your That's.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
I don't know, But why would you think you can't
say balls? We say balls?
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Just making sure. I just want to make sure, don't.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
We have we fallen off that wagon a ball? We haven't.
I just didn't want to sully her reputation by having say.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Oh, Michael and I we are like brother and sister.
We love to tease each other and give each other crabman.
It is something I look forward to everything.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
Yeah, but see, like Gary and I are like brother
and sister. I support his theater career. It seems like
you are trying to dim Michael's light from shining.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Excellent point.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
If he had a career in theater, I will. I
would support him, and I would ticket and be on
the front.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
Rowlad damn, it has been a moment since he has
been an adult theater.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
I mean that's true.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
Yeah, I told im I'm I am totally behind the
effort to get him back in there.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
He said it was just too much work. Though, Yeah,
it's a lot of work.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
I understand the stretch and the artistry it takes to
play a narrator in a play.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Wow, so it's hot in here, Molly, I'm.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Bring some of the newsroom banter into the into the studio.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
I shouldn't do that.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
I I love Michael and I love his artistry and creativity.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Shall we talk about Predator?
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Got out that iHeart theater because they won't give it
to us for free, and you guys are gonna have
to have an act off.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Oh my gosh, we need a roast.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
I hate the idea of Predator bad Lands. I've seen
the preview for it so many times. It just seems
like it's all CGI garbage. It is oh and l
Fanning looking like a robot.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Listen, it is that. It is all of those things.
But it's fun.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
You know. If you know that going into it, you
know it's going to be a sci fi action, you know,
thrillery kind of movie. El Fanning is getting a lot
of high regard in high marks for her performance in it.
I know she's playing. I know, I know people love
Elf Fanning.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
They like her. I your face as you do not
like Eln. You don't know why not?
Speaker 3 (11:23):
I don't know. I couldn't tell you for sure.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
I just don't like her.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
Well, just feel like it's plastically All of that she's
ever done has been very plastic surface acting narrator.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Okay, she Michael.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Is going to kill me in the newsroom. You guys
know that, right.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
I don't think he's listening, Yeah he is. How else
would he know to bring his resume down here? She
wasn't listening. Oh that's true. But I loved her and
I am sam.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Yeah, okay, she was seven. That's Dakota Fanning. Oh other Fanning, Elmer,
you saw Predator right, bad Land? Did you see an
seeing it?
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Not yet?
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Yeah, but well it is what it is. You kind
of know what you're getting into. It's in addition to
the Predator canon, you know.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
And it's Fanning looks a lot like Elizabeth Smart. She
played her in any sort of Elizabeth Smart biopic?
Speaker 2 (12:15):
I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
I think Amanda Seifried played somebody else. Oh you're right,
all right, I'm like I'm getting him on confused. And
then let's talk about Sidney Sweeney. Guys, I heard you
guys mentioning earlier.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Here's the deal.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
She Garry just wants to talk about her boobser not
the one who put this in the rundown, but just
so everybody knows, she did an interview where the woman
was trying to like, I should say that in the
opening night at the churches, I never has mentioned her
boobs before.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
That was all me.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
I apologize, that's never been a conversation.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
This interviewer tried to side I Sidney Sweeney by saying,
come on, you know you can't say you have good
genes and be white at the same time. And Sidney
Sweeney was like, I did a commercial for denim jeans.
It's like end of sentence, Like that's it's everybody's got
to read into.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
It is just getting frustrated, well.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Having people like to get a little worked up, you know,
they like to go on the social media and and
say things and get a little everybody a little riled up.
But here's the deal with this movie. So she's in
a new movie called Christie, and she is taking a
complete turn, really playing against type here and she's playing
like a lady boxer. It's based on a real story
of West Virginia's famous coal miners daughter, Christie Martin.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
She does have a lot of experience in combat sports. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Yeah, so in this she does not look like herself
at all. This is a total transformation when she did
the item Warnos movie Monster. Yeah, very much like that,
almost to the mullet, like similar mullet hairstyles.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
You know. They really dress her down a lot, and.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
She go to her pathway to the statuette.
Speaker 5 (13:56):
It's not just full frontals, it's also becomingly when you're beautiful.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Secret.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
All I have to do, guys, is just take off
my glasses and then I'm gorgeous.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
These are Robert Downey Junior said in Tropic Thunder. He said,
never go full ugly.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
There you go, never go full something. Listen, these two
ladies are going to be battling it out. I think
both of them will get nominated for an Oscar because one,
the Oscars love beautiful ladies on the red carpet. But
also they both put out really great performances in these films.
The movies themselves are fine, but their performance.
Speaker 5 (14:31):
Who would you pick an actual boxing match between Jennifer
Lawrence and c Lawrence Sidney Sweeney Lawrence all day. I
think it would be a good I think that one
might go the distance.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
Well, that'll be the undercard to the act off between
Heather and Michael.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
Yes, monologue off.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
I feel like we should play around with this Heather
Michael thing. Let's do it like, I think we should
use this as they do in the industry.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
You know, you say, use this motivation, use it as
your motivation, right fun. Oh, only one of us has
been on the office a couple of times, so I
feel like, oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
You said recently for like nine years. It's been on
since before two thousand and eight.
Speaker 5 (15:12):
My husband just started or just finish this like a
year ago, so he's going to be so excited. Scary
is like, the venom is pretty good, and we we
dish it out in here, and you are serving up
some of the.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Same game recognizes gay. Yeah, he's done very well.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
I appreciate that you guys let me come in here
and just let it all out.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
I kind of feel bad that Michael hasn't come back
in to defend himself.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
We should go to break before he does, because it'll
take over the rest of your show.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Let's go do a welfare check. Yeah, I'm going to
go do that. Gary and Shannon will continue right after.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
This guy it's all in good fun. Of course.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
I love to tease Michael, and he teases me right back.
It's like having an older, much much older brother.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Thanks so much.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
