Speaker 1 (00:01):
Heather Brooker has joined as we talk entertainment with Heather,
And since she pulled the overnight shift, basically this morning,
we're going to do it to right now instead of
later on in the show.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Well, first of all, I'm sorry, I look like I
rolled out of a trash bag this morning. I didn't
think anyone was going to be here in person. I
thought everyone's gonna be working from home today. Gary, I
was looking at just trash in that room, So you're fine.
So I literally look like I just rolled out and
put on whatever was nearby, and I did. This is
a big weekend that the movies. Fourth of July is
(00:32):
typically known as, like, you know, the big releases, and
Universal is well, they're bringing back their Jurassic World franchise.
They're hoping to kind of restart it and reboot it,
rekick it off with Jurassic World Dominion stars Scarlett Johansson
and Mahershela Ali Jonathan Bailey from Wicked, And you know what,
(00:53):
I was in full clinch mode the entire time, like
full body clinch. This was I thought, really suspenseful.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
The wait, wait, hold on a second, the dinosaurs get
out and they might kill people.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
They don't get out, they're already out. Oh no, oh no, they.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Go to the island.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Where Why would they do that?
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Because the story demands it.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Gary Okay, the whole like first like forty five minutes
of the movie is basically like Jurassic Jaws. It's like
Jurassic World in the ocean, and it is terrifying. That
part for me, was really scary. There's a lot of
jump scares throughout the movie. If you're a fan of dinosaurs,
if you love to see dinosaurs on the big screen,
this is a good movie. It's you know, people are
(01:39):
glad that it's back. However, there's a lot of critics.
You know, people gotta complain. They like, they don't think
that the story is as fleshed out. A lot of
people think Scarlet Johansson is just kind of you know,
giving mid for this performance. And I liked it. I
thought it was a fun movie. I thought, again, it's
one of those blockbuster movies. It's dinosaurs on the big screen.
(01:59):
The world that they've fleshed out here, they've kind of
gone back to the island where this picks up a
few years after. Oh I think I said, did I
say Rebirth or Dominion. I meant to say, this is
Jurassic World.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Rebirth.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Dominion was the last one.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Oh okay, so this comes not the one where the
dinosaurs get out.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Yes, that's the same one.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Oh they start killing people, so now they're going back
to the island. This takes place a few years after Dominion,
and it's fun. It's a you know, get yourself again
some popcorn. Enjoy the dinosaurs on the big screen. It's
beautifully shod.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
Why are people hating on a movie that we know
where we're gonna get the dinosaurs are gonna get out.
It's gonna be scary. Enjoy the CGI. What more do
you want?
Speaker 3 (02:42):
I think it's because they're like, oh, the story wasn't
you know, great? And you know, because there's a family
for some reason, there's a dad with his two young
daughters sailing by the island with the deadly dinosaurs right
at the same time.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Is the story ever great? I mean?
Speaker 5 (02:57):
And the one that woman was wearing the heels and
the sir and it's like, why are you wearing heels?
Speaker 4 (03:01):
It was a whole thing.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
It was so crazy making why Bryce Ellis Howard was
wearing heels in that whole movie. But this one feels
like more I feel like the original Jurassic Park. It's
in like this tropical setting. There's jump scares, there are
people being eaten. It's just it's fun to see the
dinosaurs back on the big screen. You know what you're
gonna get. It's the same I would say, it's the
(03:23):
same playbook maybe of the Transformers movies.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yes, like we know what, there's robots and they turn
into things that you didn't expect them to do, and
then they're going to turn into robots again.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Exactly.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
It's that.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
But there's something to Shannon's point. It's a known quantity
and as much as we complain about lack of creativity
or too many sequels or whatever, there's a reason why
why the production companies make them, and it's because they
will rake in the money.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
I mean, it's.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Already made one hundred and twenty seven million dollars in
pre sales and it's expected to make you know, quite
a bit more over the coming weeks. But it's got
some big competition coming up next weekend with Superman.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Can't you stick around for another segment? I can't two.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
I mean, she's only been here since two in the morning. Right,
that's another hurt.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
I haven't I'm staying anyway to help Michael withsm and later,
so I'm gonna be here for a while.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
So are you gonna Are you gonna make divinity with him? No?
Speaker 4 (04:19):
That does sound dirty.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Sorry, I like it. We'll edit that out. Don't worry.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
When we get to the top of the hour, we'll
talk just about the President's signing ceremony today and some
other stuff going on in DC.
Speaker 6 (04:29):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Also, how UFC is going to make its way to
the White House lawn?
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Oh, yeah, that would be pretty amazing.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
Shannon's bill m Lorraine calling from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. God bless America. Yes,
God bless you too for working today. Have a great
day and happy Fourth of July.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Oh that's very nice. All the way from Harrisburg, PA.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
What a great place right home river there you got
the National Civil War Museum.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
I just found a the Harrisburg Nationals. I think uh
one of the minor league affiliates for the Washington Nationals
plays in a stadium or play in a stadium that
exists on an island like out in the river.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah, hmm. That's the end of my story. How about
you guys.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
Sorry the Susquehanna, Oh I.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Hear is sports sports sports, Heather sports.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
So I was thinking, I mean, is there a better
movie for the big screen than Jurassic World? Durstic any
Jurassic vehicle?
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Really?
Speaker 5 (05:39):
Who wants to watch dinosaurs on their home screen when
you can go to the theater. This is what theaters
were made for dinosaurs exactly, and this movie truly expands
on the world of where the dinosaurs live.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
We see different types of dinosaurs in this movie. They
are larger than life. I don't know, they're like the
weird thing kind of. I feel like they made up
names there, like hybrids, because they were doing scientific experiments
and then the lab had to be shut down spoilers
because there was an accident.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
If you haven't seen the.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
First one, you kind of what's your favorite dinosaur?
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Favorite dinosaurus?
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Probably the Brontosaurus because that seems so gentle, tall and elegant.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
It's a vegetarian.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Yeah, I know, I'm not gonna be eaten if we
hang out.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
That's like all I remember about that dinosaur is it's
a vegetarian.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
I guess it's the first vegetarian dinosaur.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
We learn about in school.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
I would say most people really like the what the
one with the little tiny.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
The Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
You guys, I interviewed Chris Pratt and Bryce Alice Howard
for the Last Jurassic movie and I am such a dork.
I was sitting there with them and I go, I
just have to tell you, guys, this movie is Dino might.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Wow. I you know what we just ran out? Yeah,
you know what. We're fresh out O God.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
If you don't want me to cover your intament anywhore,
I promise I won't.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
I won't make any more quick Why did.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
You do that?
Speaker 2 (07:07):
But here's the deal.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
They all just excuse yourself at that point and just
say I'm sorry, I have to go.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
They both go, ah, we see what you did there.
I'm still uncomfortable, mom, Do you do you have secondhand
embarrassment for me?
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Totally? I come afraid to look at you.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
I'm actually like ten shades of red right now because
I'm like, I can't believe I told that story publicly,
but then I posted it on my social media like
I was clearly proud of that moment.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
I couldn't confirm if she has read.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
So what else I mean, we talked about Superman the
coming out, and I'm going to say it like that.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
I know this, I have seen it, but I am
under like an embargo and I'm not allowed to even
like talk about it.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
You give me a hand signal I can.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Okay, but it is and I just did so, Shannon,
I know what it was.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
I can feel it.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
You could feel it. I will say.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
I got to meet some of the cast and the crew,
not the crew, just the cast, and is good enough.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
For you, okays, Remember of the her name is Heaven,
It's not so dynamite.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
I met the cast, had a great time with them,
talking with them. Even got a little something special coming
up next week for Gary and Shannon. I'm excited to
share that. But I can't say anything about the movie
in terms of like reviewing it or whatever until next week.
But I will be spilling all of the tea about it,
and I think I think fans will be happy.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
I think I can say that.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
And Superman is another one of those stories that's been
told multiple times, so I'm curious to see what this is.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Very much James Gunn's take on it, and yeah, I
think fans will will be happy with it, but I
will You're not going to be here next week, are you?
Speaker 2 (08:59):
I'll be here in spare okay, darn it? And then Odyssey.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
I saw a lot of a lot of interesting headlines
about this that there is a trailer out there for this.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Yes, so apparently they released a trailer the first kind
of look that we're getting at Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey,
and they started showing it before Jurassic World movies this
week the Jurassic World rebirth, and fans were kind of
I think they're mostly excited. There's some people who are
kind of upset because John barenthal is speaking with an
(09:32):
American accent in his regular accent in the film, and
people are like, hold on a second. This took place
twenty nine, almost three thousand years before the founding of America.
Why doesn't he have some sort of accent. But it's like,
if that's your only beef with it, Like, come on,
if it's gonna be a great movie.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
That's like somebody taking issue with was it Kevin Costner
and Robin Hood thirty years ago?
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Everybody had an accent but him? Right right?
Speaker 3 (10:00):
I feel like though a lot of this is, you know,
you talk about sometimes citizen journalists, like the people on
social media who are trying to be news create you know,
news coverage or news anchors, whatever, the same thing is
happening with movie critics.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
They're like citizen critics.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Basically, it's guys and some gals living in their mom's
basement who have decided to start talking about movies and
stuff on the Internet and on TikTok and whatnot. And
they're getting so much credibility that they're being invited two
press junkets and two red carpets to interview actual celebrities
and casts and stuff like that. And that makes me
(10:36):
a little crazy. I'm not going to lie, but that's yes.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
But in a general conversation, that's happened with political journalism,
it's happened with sports journalism. Yes, I mean it's all
these different At what.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Point do we stop trusting people's opinion, Because here's the deal.
They're not going to tell you what they really think
about the movie in the way that like a seasoned
journalist someone who has trainee really would because they they
don't want to be uninvited to the next big event, right,
they don't want to be off Disney's list. They don't
want to be off Universal's lists, so they're not ever
going to give you like a true reaction.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
You know.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
They may say something for clicks and likes, you know,
but I don't know, as somebody who enjoys movies and
covers it a lot. That makes me a little crazy.
The Citizen Critics.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
The Odyssey Star. Listen to this cast list. You have
Matt Damon obviously, as as Odysseus, Tom Holland and Hathaway,
Zendia Lupita and Jongo, Robert Pattinson, Charlie's Thereon, John Burnhall,
John Leguizamo, Elliott Page, Mia goth This is a that's
(11:41):
an incredible list, yeah, Elliott Page.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Isn't it?
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Yeah, it's going to be.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
Has been anything recently, like since all of the changes, Yes,
I mean yeah, but like not recently, right.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Nothing, that's nothing that has been released widespread.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
I'll tell you that the Umbrella Academy on Netflix. Yeah,
I think.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
Which one, Umbrella Academy. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right,
that's what it was. That's what I'm thinking. That's like
the most recent one that was a good show. It's
gonna this is gonna be a great movie.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
I mean it doesn't we're already talking about and the
buzz is already happening and it doesn't even come out
for another like year year or so next July.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
So that's gonna be a good one.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
One other movie, you guys, you know, may not be
on your radar for right now for this weekend, but
it should be Sovereign with Nick Offerman from Parks and
rec This is a great dramatic role for him. It
is a very interesting and unique movie. It's more of
an indie film. It stars also Dennis Quaid and Jacob
(12:42):
Tremblay and he plays like an anti government extremist and
it's a really uh they're talking towards bait already for
Nick Offerman for this. He's had a lot of great
dramatic turns recently and this is a wonderful movie for
him to be in.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Awesome.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Then Heads of State on Amazon time. I keep saying
that is good.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
It is so funny and so ridiculous if you if
you think about it, like it's said, John Cena is
playing like a Trump like character, Indricelba is playing like
a British Prime minister type character, and they they have
to partner up together, whacking us ensues.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
It's just a.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Fun, silly comedy and I think it's definitely worth watching
this weekend for sure.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
Okay, thank you, Thanks you guys.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Fun, thank you.
