the show is it's a good energy, but just you.

Speaker 2 (01:11):

Speaker 4 (01:16):
Who pops today? Who won, I did, I did. I'm
getting better, man, I talked about this golf journey.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
I'm getting good.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
But this is not about golf. This is the first
that happened to day on the golf course.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
My dad.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
You know what I'm saying, waste the technology is not
the most technically savvy.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
But he's gotten better.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
He's getting better with the technology, don't you know? Today,
after the way I was playing, you have to take
a selfie? So as opposed and Pops. You know, my
dad's on my old school dads. He's not like, hey, sons,
the hell of a driver his sons. He's like, let's
take a picture. I was like, you know what, I'll
take that picture. I know what that means. So shout
the pops. Now we had a good round here. As
for a selfie, can you believe it?

Speaker 2 (01:55):
I don't think my dad knows what a selfie is.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
And it wasn't like, hey, take a Sophie on your phone.
It was hey, hold on, he got me on his phone.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
So shout to pops. Man. He has the great Tom
has away alongside as well. Hey Tom, hello fellas man.

Speaker 6 (02:17):
I know we're gonna talk about the pistons here, but man,
they had to the edge of my seat all night
last night and they got it home.

Speaker 7 (02:24):
Man, I get to go to a game tomorrow. So
excited another game.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Isn't that fantastic? Pete's five at Ricky Burns with us
as well. Dave Briquette get to join us at about
thirty minutes from now, So stay tuned for that. All
the Lions news and notes that you could possibly want.
Brad Holmes with a little bit of a contentious interview
yesterday on the flagship.

Speaker 5 (02:46):
For interesting comments.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, and it just feels like Lions versus everybody. But
we'll get to that in about thirty minutes. But we
will begin where else. With those Detroit Pistons. They eight
dead yet no one oh six, one oh three winners
against the Knicks the last four games. Guys, if you

(03:09):
add up the scores, there is a twelve point difference.
Twelve points has separated the last four games.

Speaker 7 (03:18):
And that includes a twenty one zero run with the Knicks.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Well, no, that's game one. Oh that's right, Yeah, there
you go. But either way, long way to get to
the Pistons could easily have been up three one in
this series. They could easily be up three two in
this series. They could have easily won the series by now.
This series is so close, neck and neck. Last night's

(03:42):
game was played within ten points. The largest margin of
lead last night was the Pistons by ten in the
third quarter. Knicks the most ahead was a five point lead.
This was back and forth all night long, and in
the end, Brailen, it was the Pistons that made the plays.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
Yeah, this is how these games have been played. It
has been and wired to wire, it has been back
and forth. These games have been good as released the
Pistons in the Knicks. But the Pistons can't win those games,
or at least they hadn't won those games until last night.
The difference for me last night was they got a
ton of rebounds. The Knicks have played bascuse me. The
Knicks have played bad in this fell and they've allowed
the Knicks in the last three, four to five, six,

(04:19):
seven minutes to play well. They didn't allow them to
play well in this time. They stayed after them, they
stayed physical, they stayed in their face. The rest to
a certain extent, let them play and they made the baskets.
They got the rebounds. Jalen Doran had a lot of rebounds,
and I think the big difference for me was the
star Thompson last night. So it was good to see
them be able to come back from that heartfelt loss.

(04:39):
Agates game for Tim Hardaway doesn't get the foul call,
but they came out like I wanted to see, do
you steal in game four or do you come out
in game five and say no, no, no, we're gonna
get it back to LCA.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
And that's what they did last.

Speaker 6 (04:51):
Night, and they helped Jalen Brunson down last night. He
did not have a good game. And let's face it,
this guy's been playing hurt, right, He's hurt. He was
hurt like a before the playoffs started and he started
coming back slowly, but surely I think he tweaked his
knee again last night. So he goes out, Josh Hart
goes out. Tom Thibodeau's got one time out left.

Speaker 7 (05:11):
He let the.

Speaker 6 (05:11):
Pistons literally run a minute and a half off the
clock without calling a timeout to get his two star
players back in the game for the last run, and
the Pistons took advantage of it. Brunson hit a three
that he was double covered, triple covered at the gun
and uh, who was the other guy that was killing us?

Speaker 7 (05:33):
And cat thank you MIKEL Bridges.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Three was a game.

Speaker 7 (05:41):
They hit those two threes.

Speaker 6 (05:42):
To get it to one point and then kid had
to hit two free throws to get it to three.
Back and forth they fouled each other and the Pistons
got away with the win man. But Thibodeau I think
lost that game for his team, or at least didn't
give them the best chance to win. He's holding onto
his last time out and can't get in the game,
so I don't know what he was doing there. I

(06:03):
kept saying, thank you, leave him on the sideline, thank
you very much. But Asa Thompson was outstanding. K does
as usual and I'll tell you Tobias fantastic game.

Speaker 7 (06:15):
And he's a New.

Speaker 6 (06:16):
York kind of guy. He had a lot of family
at that game, and he was very much in play
at the garden. So they win two games so far,
both at Madison Square Garden. They have been a terrific
road team all season long, and now they come home tomorrow.
They played two pretty darn good games. Let's see if
they could squeeze one out and get it home again,

(06:37):
get it back to the garden for Game seven.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Yeah, it seems like Tobias got pissed off after that
elbow that he suffered.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
He took an elbow to the face.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
After he did that, he literally played with a different
type of purpose and he scored I want to say,
three straight baskets and then scored four out of five.
So Tobias came up in the clutch. But it was
bad coaching between both the coaches.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
JB.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
Bickerstaff was bad. Tom Thibodeau was bad. It was like
they were out lasting want another. I didn't understand what
happened with the minute of how they saved that time out.
Why don't you have your best player in the game
and actually the heart of the series so far, which
is Josh Hart for those guys, I didn't understand that.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
But excuse me, sorry, if you just look at the
fight of this team, they were not going to lose
that game. And I'll tell you one player that just
kind of took over. And it's not like he had
forty or anything like that, but it was Caid Cunningham.
When the game was on the line, when they needed

(07:33):
to stop that run, the Pistons were up ten. It
was a nine to zero run by New York Who
got the ball? It was Caid Cunningham. He did he
went to the line. He got when the shots aren't falling.
Do you have that stopper? Do you have? And they
didn't have this in game one. And this is where
I think it's all about learning how to win right

(07:56):
when you're a young team, when you have very little
experiences in the playoffs. Certainly guys like cad and Durham
and Thompson, your three young stars, don't have any experience
in the playoffs. But that game won a twenty one
to nothing run. You just need something to fall for you. You

(08:17):
need some turnover to you can't turn the ball over,
you need a bucket to go, or you need somebody
to drive to the basket to get to the line,
and just put the brakes on that run. That's what
Ki did last night. And I think stopping that run
in that form was as important to that game last

(08:38):
night as any moments that we saw.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
I don't know who was sitting in that cheer when
I said this, I say, I don't care about the
first forty one minutes. Remember tom as away when he
lost Game one, I said, as a superstar player, Pete.

Speaker 5 (08:52):
You remember this.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
It's not about those first forty one minutes. It's not
about how you're playing.

Speaker 5 (08:56):
In the beginning.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
Kay was playing okay, not necessarily that great, but your
star player came up when it mattered in those moments.
Like you said, Ryan, he stopped those runs because you see,
it was going back and forth. They would miss a basket,
the Knicks would miss a basket. But every time that
the Knicks will missed that basket, the Knicks would turn
it over. K would say, no, nah, no f that,
No more crazy shots. Now, let me just get to

(09:17):
the basket. If I get filed, it to be three
the old fashioned way. That's what he did. And the
Knicks kept trying to pull threes, and the Pistons kept
getting the rebounds. They kept kicking it the k So
it was good. I believe the physicality because.

Speaker 5 (09:30):
The reps have let him play right mans long. They
let him get out of the game.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
Looks like an old school series to a certain extent.
Pistons have played this way all year. They're used to
playing that way. Guess who's not. The Knicks haven't played
like this all season, that physical style of band, you.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
Know, what you do, you get tired.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
It sucks to play on both ends like that. The
Knicks have not built up the tolerance to play physical
defensively and then come back and play the style of
basketball they do because on the offense they play fast.
You notice them slowing down, that's because they're now You
see this physicality, it gets tiring.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I'm not quite sure the Knicks know what hit him.
I'm not quite sure the Knicks know who they're dealing with.
This feels like in Rocky two, Tony going up to
Apollo and saying, I see you beat that man like

(10:23):
I've never seen no man get beat before, and the
man kept coming after you. We don't need that kind
of guy in our lives. We don't need that kind
of man in our lives. I feel like the Knicks
feel like they gave the Pistons their best shot, and
the Pistons, much like Rocky did in Round fourteen of

(10:48):
Rocky One, crawling to the top rope, turning around and saying,
come on, come on. I feel like last night's game
was that for the Pistons. It was like a Rocky
movie where the Knicks thought they were going home to
MSG and you got Ben Stiller and Tim Shallow me

(11:08):
and you got all these stars in the house, Spike Lee.
They thought that the Pistons were gonna roll over and
say nice series, get pat on the head and say
good competition. No, uh huh, that's not this group. That's
not this group. And they said, come on, we want more.

(11:29):
Last point about this, Brayley, before I send it back
to you, you mentioned a great point. They're banged up.
Can you outlast them? Josh Hart is now banged up.
Jalen Brunson is now banged up. Can you outlast them
with your youth? I think that's an important point. I

(11:51):
said this after Game four when they were down three
games to one. This series is deceiving. That is not
a three to one series, Lad. I thought the Pistons
could win the series at that point, and I think
the Pistons can still win that series obviously after winning
Game five. Don't count these guys out. Don't count these

(12:14):
guys out.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
Just to add to the point, and this is mass,
I'm getting Mads and Ans some credit on this Mass.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
How deep did you say?

Speaker 4 (12:20):
The Pistons bench the Pistons squad hit ten d. Meanwhile,
Tibbs likes to play sixty seventy.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
JB.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
Bickerstaff played just like Tom Thibodeau. The first four games,
you forgot that you had ten deep. Last night, you
saw different bodies fresh body. Here's Hollins, here's Hollinds out,
here's Malaig Besy, here's Malaig Bez out Tobias. So we'll
spell you for a second. Let's go on, Jalen Dorm,
Let's bring in read. They used their whole bench, and
they kept the bodies fresh.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
That's what the Philadelphia and I don't know how we
got there.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
Their defensive line, they just run those fresh bodies at you,
and keep running bodies at you and eventually say, all right,
the offensive line, where's out.

Speaker 5 (12:57):
That's what the Knicks are doing.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
Those camera paigns not rated play when you're throwing them
in those moments. McK brian wasn't ready for that, and
your two stars are banged up.

Speaker 5 (13:05):
That falls on Og and Michal Williams Piston.

Speaker 6 (13:10):
The Knick fans were outside screaming, we want Boston, you
want Boston. But I didn't get to finish the game, obviously.
I just want to say this. I'm back and forth
all night with our with our staff here. We have
a text thread, and I keep telling them. They keep
saying I can't wait for the Knicks to get swept
by Boston, and I keep telling them they're not done.

(13:31):
The Pistons are not done in this series. And you're
looking at the Pistons wrong guys. For people that don't
believe in this team. I said it way back before
the playoffs started that I believe they could win a series,
maybe two. Now I know they have to get the
winner of this gets Boston the world champs. They go
twelve deep, they're well coached, they've got superstars everywhere. We've

(13:56):
got one superstar and a bunch of really good players,
young hungry players. But I have no doubt that this
team can still play with any team in the East,
any team in the East.

Speaker 7 (14:09):
This team could go one on one.

Speaker 6 (14:11):
Would I rather haven't played the Pacers, Yes? Would I
rather haven't played the Cavaliers?

Speaker 7 (14:16):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (14:18):
But I believe if they beat the Knicks, and they can,
I believe they have a puncher's.

Speaker 7 (14:23):
Chance to keep going.

Speaker 6 (14:25):
And then you tell me this, if the Knicks do
win this series, they have no chance to win.

Speaker 7 (14:29):
Yeah they do, Yes, they do. If Durant, excuse me.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
If Mitchell Robinson.

Speaker 7 (14:37):
Mitchell no their star.

Speaker 6 (14:39):
If Brunson's okay, if he's eighty percent okay, and kat
is eighty percent okay, they could beat a lot of
teams in the East. I'm not going to the West.
I'm saying the East. The Knicks are a very good
team and they're playing a very good team. That's my
only point. You look at the Pisses like they're peons.
They're not peons, real NBA basketball team.

Speaker 4 (15:03):
They are a real NYBA basketball team. They are not pions.
They are not hard stop right there. They are not peons.
They are a real basketball team. But let's not let
the excitement of Pistons basketball coming back to LCA, potentially
winning Game six and now we think that they can
beat the Celtics and the Pacers like you have to
look at the Knicks for what they are, a banged

(15:24):
up team that has gotten physically beat up via this
Detroit Pistons team. But if you want to talk about
Boston now which we haven't even got by the Knicks,
or we'll talk about the Pacers, Malik Beasley can't play
like he's played this series. Tim Hardaway can't go out
there and just jack up three after three, after three,
after three after three and figure it out. Ron Hollins, JB.
Bickerstaff when you know, you know, get him out of

(15:46):
the game. You left him in the game a couple
of times too long for stretches like if you want
to beat the Celtics, can't beat him with Tim Harnaway,
Malik Beasley and Ron Hall's playing like that. Now you
can beat these Knicks. Let's focus on the Knicks, not
the Celtics at the Pacers.

Speaker 8 (16:00):
You known I was gonna bring up to add to
this point. Guys, what we were talking about yesterday is
what happened in the game. We all we we called
this and I'm gonna tell you why. I'm gonna give
myself a little bit of credit here and pat myself
on the back on this one. And I am gonna
do this because we had this great conversation both these teams,
and I understand Mas what you're saying that these both
teams are talented. They are talented, but they're not playing

(16:21):
I think personally it doesn't look like to me they're playing.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Their best basketball.

Speaker 8 (16:25):
The only home win, if I'm correct, was Game one,
right so we haven't had a home win. Okay, both
these teams. Again, it's like two YMCA squad. So if
the Pistons come out and win Game six, they can
completely demolish the Knicks confidence because it's not just a
regular home win, and it's not just a regular game
six wins the first freaking win in the playoffs ever

(16:47):
at LCA, and you take that momentum into Game seven,
into a place where you've already won two games and
we already played game one close against them. The whole
series has been close to the Knicks. The Knicks can
be beaten tomorrow night at LCA, and I mean beaten
for the series with that win, because it would change
the whole complexion of that series.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
Good a movie.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
First of all, I'm not even gonna utter the name
Boston Celtics until or unless this series is over. Second thing,
thing two, is you like to say which I love that?
I love it? Yeah, it does, it does. I think
it's great. I'm gonna take it as my own. I'll
give you credits. But thing two, all the pressure is

(17:31):
on the New York Knicks. Yeah, the Pistons have no pressure.

Speaker 7 (17:35):
House money they have.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
If I told you What if I told you the
Pistons were gonna lose this series in six games, how
many people in Detroit would be like, Hell yeah, I'll
take that. You won a couple of games in round
one after winning fourteen games last year, You beat the
third seeded Knicks twice in this series, and you went

(17:59):
out out fighting in Game six. Bravo Detroit. That's what
would happen. That's what will happen if they lose on
Thursday night, unless they lose by twenty, which we don't anticipate.
That's just not this series. Every single eyeball, every single
talking point, every single talking head pressure on the Knicks.

(18:23):
The Pistons can just play free and easy. That's where
guys like Tim Hardaway and Beasley have to just give
me something, something the way these guys are jacking up
shots as now. Beasley at the start of the game,
and I think it's first two that was huge to
settle everybody down, made him feel good. He got off

(18:44):
to a good league, got off to a good first quarter.
I thought that was huge. But I cannot believe, cannot
believe how poorly these guys are missing wide open shots.
Want to get to freddie Felt here, Billy Joel is
more relevant to em than the Knicks.

Speaker 7 (19:02):
Well, that's easy. Look at me.

Speaker 6 (19:04):
They won a championship when I was eleven years old. Yeah,
I'm sixty three. Yes, Billy Joel is more relevant than
the Knicks.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
They might be. They might be. But again, do you
guys agree that all the pressure on the next say
I said they were gonna lose in five? I agree.

Speaker 4 (19:20):
I maintain firm on that. Obviously I'm wrong, but yeah,
I agree, and I'll do you want even better. The
pressure was off the minute they won a game, like
they didn't have any pressure coming to it.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
Anyway.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
You mean to tell me they responded to losing game
one in that fashion.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
By winning game two?

Speaker 2 (19:37):
They're good.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
The pressure has been off since Game two in my books.
So they're playing with, as Tom Maswey likes to say,
house money.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
Yes, sir Jason Kenyon ten bucks. Please don't be like
stick and say we need a KD trader to OKC
to give Kaid help. He'd pull the same stunt he
did to OKC that could win the championship. And no
one said that. Yeah, nobody said that here, And again,
I'm not done with this year. There's gonna be plenty

(20:04):
of time to talk about the Boston Celtics and the Knicks,
or the Celtics and the Pistons, or what to do
in the offseason, or what the Pistons need to compete
for a championship. There will be shows in time to
talk about that. That time is not now. This is
the biggest game, the biggest sports game played in Little

(20:29):
Caesars Arena in the eight year history of Little Caesars Arena,
eight years it's been around. In the eight year history
of Little Caesars Arena, there will be no sports game
played that is bigger than this one on Thursday night.
And I just think you talk about juice and I

(20:50):
see the ratings for the NBA Playoffs are up. I
think the Pistons have a lot to do with that.
I really do. And know they're not a big market,
but they are a big team, the Detroit Pistons, and
the style that they play, and I think the way
they've played the next and mind you, I hated the call,
the non call at the end of Game four, but

(21:11):
the way this series, the way this playoff has been officiated,
I think has been pretty darn good. It's been equally
as bad. Let me say that you are letting these
guys play. It is getting chippy. We see it in
Detroit and New York. You obviously saw it with the

(21:31):
Pacers and the Milwaukee Bucks. And we could talk about
that if you want. But I think these playoffs, especially
the Eastern Conference, has been great.

Speaker 7 (21:43):
JB. Bickerstaff.

Speaker 6 (21:44):
Last night he talked mostly about Tobias Harris and the
impact he had on this game.

Speaker 7 (21:52):
Here's JB.

Speaker 9 (21:53):
I mean, I've run out of adjectives about how I
feel about Tobias, so I'll just repeat myself.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 9 (21:59):
He is our safety blanket. He's reliable, He's dependable. You know,
he understands what needs to happen in the moment. He's
an unbelievable human being, an unbelievable teammate. He's a fierce competitor.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
Like I mean, you gonna keep going? Is it enough?

Speaker 7 (22:15):
Hey?

Speaker 6 (22:15):
Unk had a couple of bad games in this series,
he did, but he showed up last night when they
needed him. Seventeen points last night. Jalen Duran is playing hard,
playing with five fouls most of the time, but he
got cat in foul trouble. That's why you didn't see
catalot in the fourth quarter. He had five fouls on him.
So that guy is an unbelievable shooter for a big man.

(22:38):
I'll call him the best big man shooter I've seen
in a long long time. And I know there's a
lot of guys out there, but it's when you watch
a game and you don't take your eyes off of
it for six straight, five straight games, you really concentrate
on these guys. And I'll tell you this, Jalen Brunson
is an absolute stud. He's playing hurt. He's a stunt

(22:59):
and Cat is an amazing shooter and he could drive
like that guy.

Speaker 7 (23:05):
He's amazing the way he just he doesn't even shoot it.
He makes his own shots. Yeah, flat footed from from
almost the lower logo.

Speaker 5 (23:14):
Yeah, he's he's seven foot one.

Speaker 7 (23:18):
He's amazing. You know what, he was lost in Minnesota.

Speaker 6 (23:22):
You're finally seeing him now on the national stage.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
You know you as a cat, you know, And we
talked about it before this series. He said, this is
him wanting to prove himself.

Speaker 5 (23:33):
This was him.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
He got out of Minnesota last year's Anthony Edwards team,
although they wanted to stay, but he got out. He
wanted to prove that he was that guy and this
was gonna be a big series for him. This is
gonna be a big Playoffs for him. And so so far,
he's played well. He hasn't cried. He's cried, but he's
still played through the contact, he's played through the physicality.
He's played well, but he's come up short in the
last couple of games. You know, last night it was

(23:55):
for the Detroit Pistons, and I think that banging, whether
it's Red, whether it's Jalen doing a pause on that one,
whether it's Jalen Reed, whether it's Red, they're putting Cat
in situations where he's getting frustrated. And when you get
frustrated and you get tired, and you get fatigued, and.

Speaker 5 (24:09):
You already got Nickson bruising backs.

Speaker 2 (24:11):
You remember who was it? It was It's Rashie Wallace.

Speaker 4 (24:16):
Rashee Wallace was talking to Oh my god, it was
a Cliff Cliff Robinson. Cliff Robinson rest in peace. He
was telling Rashee Wallace how to defend Shack. He said,
you can't defend Shaq like that. He said, you gotta
do little things, little tricks and trades to get through it.
Because he had the ice pack on his back, ice
pack on his knees, ice pack on his shoulder. Because
Shaq is Shack killed him. He's the diesel, That's what

(24:40):
you're saying from Jalen doing. He's not shocked, but the
physicality is there. Cat's tired like that stuff takes, yeah,
and which means he doesn't know how strong he really is.

Speaker 5 (24:51):
And with the effect he's having on Cat in this game.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Pretty incredible stuff.

Speaker 5 (24:55):
Man.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
I just really enjoy this. I do. I really enjoy this.
I just and the thing I like it is I
feel like these guys truly and I hate this. I
feel like it's so hokey, but I do feel like
they embody the city they do, you know, in this fight,
in this grit and you know who we are as
a people. I usually think that stuff is kind of hokey.

(25:19):
We got on, but I just I really do think
this team reflects the name on the front of their jersey, Detroit.

Speaker 4 (25:31):
For all of those who were talking about a Sar,
because the Sar's name came up before the.

Speaker 7 (25:35):
Series, A Star as ans.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
That's why I was gonna give the credit. A lot
of people, Oh Asar can't shoot He's not the guy.
If you want to use trade bait, I think a
sar as a trade bait, not Jaye and n Ivy.
This is the conversations people have, why is he even
on the team to a certain and then they forgot
about everything that he's gone through. The reason I bring
that up is because now you see game four, excuse me,
game five, when it's all on the line, all the marbles.

(26:00):
That same young player that you said doesn't deserve to
be on the team, That same young player as you
said I couldn't shoot last night. He was eighty percent
from the field go last night. He had twenty two
points last night. He had defensive stops when the team
needed it. All you people that talked about a star Thompson,
Uo Anson and a star an apology.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
Jason Kenyon twenty bucks just talking about the Kevin Durant situation.
It was mentioned by Stick earlier as a Detroit fan
that moved to Oklahoma season after the Sonics became the Thunder.
I'm salty. I liked my only pro team in Okay,
But damn, don't ask me to bring a trader to Detown.

(26:39):
Nah nah, Yeah, that cuts deep, man, That cuts deep.
When you're a small market team, and we've we've had
it here in Detroit too, when you're a small bark.
I remember Sergey Federoff when he wanted to go to
la to play for Anaheim because Cornkova. Yeah, you know
what I mean. It cuts deep when your star women.

(27:01):
Either way, Man, I'm so jacked for this team. I'm
so jacked for tomorrow night.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
I was gonna say with the KD ho it's not
necessarily KD. So it's not Katie. It's more the illusion.
That's what the pissons are going to be after in
this offseason. But like Ryan said, stay in the present.

Speaker 6 (27:18):
Hey, Pacers beat the Bucks last night. Bucks gave up
like a seven point lead with thirty seconds to go.
They lost in overtime. Pacers win it in five. But
what happened twenty They were up big. But what happened
in this game was Tyrese Halliburton's dad gets in the face.
What I've never seen anything like that. And we'll talk

(27:40):
about that coming out. I can't believe it can't start
a topic. God bless you, Giannis. Would I would have clocked.

Speaker 2 (27:47):

But as I was saying at two twenty nine, when
when I had scolded me Jana's Antetokombo, one of the
great players in the NBA, one of the great gentlemen
in the NBA as well, was accosted by Tyrese Halliburton's
father during the game and then after the game, and
it was a little scuffle in the middle. And I
don't have the sound, which is my bad. I should

(32:25):
have had Giannis a sound. My bad, Pete. If you
can turn it out, great, But anyway, when the hell
do fans get a right to come on the court
and get face to face with an NBA player or
an NFL player or an MLB player. If that happened
in baseball, they'd be tackled and dragged down to the

(32:49):
jail in the in the stadium. If that happened in football,
they would get crushed by somebody by Big Dom, the
Philadelphia security guy. How in basketball? And I saw when
I was at Little Caesars for the past two games
they have about twenty five security guards at the every
time out come out. They're all in black. They come out,
they're all over. They swarm, especially when the Pisses and

(33:12):
Knicks were really scuffling. Remember there was a couple of
almost fights in this series. So how the hell does
this Halliburton guy get to Giannis like he does?

Speaker 7 (33:22):
Braylan, you got anything for me? I mean, what can
they do?

Speaker 6 (33:25):
They punished the Atlanta Falcons and we'll get to this
a little bit for the Shador Sanders Bull.

Speaker 2 (33:31):
You got the sound.

Speaker 8 (33:32):
They have the sound, but it's a little bit lengthy.
You guys, tell me what you got it.

Speaker 7 (33:36):
Here's here's Giannis after the game.

Speaker 6 (34:00):
Yeah, I think just what would happened?

Speaker 3 (34:07):
Kind of a out on the floor after the game?

Speaker 14 (34:11):
Nothing, I this is the last TI I'm gonna say,
don't I want like a lot to the last the game.
It doesn't really matter. One thing I'll say is that
I believe like being humbled in victory. That's how way
I am.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
Now.

Speaker 14 (34:23):
There can be a lot of people out there that
are like, no, when you when you win the game,
tag sheit and you know it's it's a green light
for you to be disrespectful towards somebody else. I disagree.
I've won the championship. They haven't, Okay, and that doesn't
even say anything. I'm not trying to minimize their effort.

(34:43):
But I remember when I won. My mom My mom
does she's she's never missed the games from from February
February eleventh or thirteen when she came in Milwaukee against
the She've never missed the game. When we want a champion,
she remember my mom. She was cared to cross. She

(35:06):
was like, am I allowed to come in? Hug my son?
I see except now my brother does does media for
this year. He wants to come back and play. But like,
except in Nass, you've never seen my family, like see,
of course, I see. This is not something that we do.
We don't. I try to keep my family away from

(35:27):
the game. But losing the game emotions right run high.
Having a fan, which at the moment I thought he
was fine, but then I realized it was Titus's son,
which I love Titus, I think is a great competitor.
He was his dad, sorry, coming in the floor and
showing me his son at towel with his face.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
This is what we do. This is what we do.

Speaker 14 (35:53):
This, if we do this, I feel like that's very
very disrespectful.

Speaker 15 (36:00):
You know.

Speaker 14 (36:03):
My dad, my dad.

Speaker 7 (36:05):
If you guys go naxt and there you go.

Speaker 6 (36:08):
Man, that's a wo Like I said, this is a
guy I want on my team. And I'm gonna ask
Bray in a minute, how you get a guy like
this here because Milwaukee's talking to him. Let's face the
day one there championship. They're hurting right now. They're probably
not gonna be relevant again for a while. Pistons are
on the way up, Bucks on the way down. I'd

(36:29):
love to get this guy here in Detroit somehow.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
Bray before you go, let me just read twenty twenty
bucks super Chat. Thanks so much, Jason. Current Pistons have
the makings of an four Pistons team. Get some dogs
and be the bad boys. The eight to nine OKC
was in the makings of the four Pistons. Now with SGA,
OKC is uh and my computer is okay. See is

(36:53):
in the makings of the four Pistons. Cade meet OKAC
at the Championship Series. That would be interesting. But back
to Giannis and Halliburton's.

Speaker 4 (37:02):
Dad, right, all right, Well, the reason how this happens
in terms of fans is like that those seats cost
a lot. Let's get to beyond even before you get
to how Halliburton's father or whoever family those seats cost
a lot, and what the NBA does because they want
that price point to be what it is for those
half for those uh, those those court side seats, those

(37:24):
under the rim seats. They allow a certain level of
you can say a little bit, you can do a
little bit, Hey, treat this role right, Hey, you know
you want to make sure you take care of their throw.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
So they continue to spend that money. So the NBA always.

Speaker 4 (37:36):
They buy into the court side seats, they buy into
the atmosphere, and they try to let those fans do
and have the type of time and fun they want. Now,
as it relates to players' families, this is on Tyre's Halliburton.
I mean, it's on the father in general. But if
he's doing that, this ain't the first time. And this
is the first time because it's not the first time
that the Patiers have won. So it's on the father.

(37:58):
But Tyre's you gotta tell your pop citizen down. You
got you.

Speaker 5 (38:02):
Hear me out.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
No, I'm with you, I'm with you, I'm agree with you.
I'm sorry. No, I'm absolutely agreeing with you. I thought
you were done.

Speaker 4 (38:12):
I was just gonna say Tyre has to holler at
his pops because you can't because he represents you any
family member. It's the same thing with Patrick Mahomes and
then Jackson Mahomes, Like even though Jackson Mahons already being
a recluse, even Mahomes pops you know him, he still
represents you.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
These are conversations that I.

Speaker 4 (38:28):
Remember being in the queue, which I forget they call
it now Quicken loans Arena in Cleveland. When I was
playing for the Brons, we went to that game where
it was San Antonio.

Speaker 2 (38:38):
It was a Christmas game. It was Lebron.

Speaker 4 (38:41):
And remember when Lebron yelled at his mom because his
mom was on the court and she was talking to
the rest and she was yelling at people, and Lebron said,
sent your ass down.

Speaker 5 (38:49):
Excuse my French, but that's what he said.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
This is exactly what he said.

Speaker 4 (38:53):
He said it to his mom on national TV against
the San Antonio Spurs. He had to let his mom know.
Now obviously he was. He couldn't done it like that.
It happens. He had to let and my mom know,
you represent me. You sit yourself down. Your last name
is James, you're my mom, You represent me. What are
you doing just because I'm Lebron and I'm your son?

Speaker 2 (39:11):
This ain't accurate.

Speaker 5 (39:13):
You know I went to King.

Speaker 4 (39:14):
This ain't King High School. Now, youse ain't for a fact.
You can't just jump on the court. Sit yourself down.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
Rules come with it.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
So this is on the players to make sure their parents,
their family, their friends make sure that they understand what
comes with that.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
Two points about it. Point one, your spot on Tyrese
Haliburton absolutely has to have a stern talking to his
dad because I'll tell you this, Tyrese Halliburton's dad is
probably living off of Tyrese Halliburton's junior salary. So the

(39:47):
money is.

Speaker 4 (39:48):
I don't know about that, but it has nothing to
do with the money side of it. It's more so
I think.

Speaker 2 (39:52):
The money the money allows whoever has the most money,
that's usually the decision maker. This is true, but that's
my point about it.

Speaker 4 (40:01):
Even if Tyree's dad had a job at GM, I'm
just saying, like, you gotta stay your butt off the court,
and that's the conversation that he has to.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
I totally agree. I totally agree with you on that.
But what I'm saying is, whoever has the most money
in any relationship, that's the one who's making the rules.
That's what I That's what I think I could be
wrong on that.

Speaker 5 (40:20):
I disagree, Okay, fair enough disagree with that in this
one though.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
Yeah. Here here's what I'll say about this. Mister Halliburt.
You just took away a moment from your son. You
stole one of the great moments in his life. You
stole it instead of everybody talking about how great Tyre's
Halliburton was last night playing winning basketball down the stretch.

(40:46):
Maybe the stat sheet didn't jump off the page at you,
but it was Tyre's Halliburton playing winning basketball down the
stretch that allowed his team and he was the leader
to a four to one win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
You stole that moment from your son. I think that
is wrong, and I think that's when you have to

(41:08):
take a look at you in the mirror and say
what am I doing here? And I do think the
NBA should relegate him now to a suite. You have
to take you. You cannot antagonize players. If this is
any other fan, and I don't care who he is,
if he's his dad of a player or not. If

(41:30):
that's any other fan, you're kicked out of the building.
Your tickets are revoked, that's what happens. But out of
courtesy for your son, we will say no more floor seats.
You're going in the booth. You're going in a suite.
That's out of courtesy.

Speaker 5 (41:47):
What happened when in Cleveland was and what if.

Speaker 2 (41:49):
It was love oar Ball? What if it was love
oar Ball, what would we be saying about him.

Speaker 4 (41:53):
What happened in Cleveland is there were about three four
instances with Gloria James and so after that final one
against the Spurs that was the crux, and after that
they did exactly that. They had her in the suite
the rest of the time. Now you know, everything got
good now and it's different, but they put in a suite.
To your point, my only question is, out of all
people you could go up to on the court, why
honis why?

Speaker 1 (42:15):
Right?

Speaker 4 (42:16):
Like why is your father? That's the real question. Why
is your pops walking up Giannis with a tie? All
these guys on this team, you walk up to the
one that we know is the Greek freak, the one
that was the only one playing in this series that
was personal because they got history and his Hillary history
isn't with Halli Burden, it's with the other dude on
the team.

Speaker 5 (42:34):
I can't think his name right now, Mathain.

Speaker 4 (42:39):
They have beef, they've had like beief for like a
year and a half now, and every time they play,
there's that old school NBA you put the head on
the head, which is the dumbest thing ever, means you
don't want to fight. But I just don't understand why
you go up to Giannis and what was in his
mind after a win.

Speaker 5 (42:53):
Let me go up Toiannis and say no, no.

Speaker 2 (42:55):
No, that no doubt about it. So NBA playoffs continue on, guys,
you gotta talk to me here. Do we have Burkett
or we don't have Burkett? Talk to me? Okay? Uh
so we are going to talk to Dave Burkette in
just a little bit. We're having It's on us, not
on him. He's there. We just don't we just don't

(43:15):
back the Nuggets. Well, that's a championship team. That's an
m VP of the league kind of guy.

Speaker 5 (43:22):
He told me he was the best I was told
he was the best player in the league.

Speaker 2 (43:25):
And that's a team that also, you know, you'll look
at them, and they fired their coach a week before
the playoffs started, and it kind of feels like it's
working out for him right now. This is true. This
is true. They have either coach Mike Buonholzer. Excuse me, no,
I'm alone. Yeah, Denver. By the way, one last night,

(43:47):
I blew out the Clippers. Uh. They take a three
games to two series lead in that series out West. Yeah,
we know Malone has been playing well he's been playing well.

Speaker 4 (44:00):
He hasn't gotten consistent help from Gordon, hasn't gotten consistent
help from Jamal Merry, Jamal Murray not looking like the
one and won a championship, or the infamous bubble Jamal
Murray as they called him. But last night he got
some help. He got some help from Aaron Gordon. Aaron
Gordon started off hiding that game. All you gotta do
is just give yok you a little to help, Just
like we were talking about with Kate help Kate out,

(44:21):
Yogi needs even less help.

Speaker 2 (44:23):
Yeah, and last night he got it. And the big
series out west that everybody's keeping an eye on, obviously
the Los Angeles Lakers. They could get eliminated tonight by
the Minnesota Timberwolves. The t Wolves have a three games
to one series lead in this and I'll tell you,
let me ask you this.

Speaker 7 (44:39):
NBA won't allow it.

Speaker 2 (44:41):
Let me ask you this question, serious legitimate question. If
if Minnesota wins tonight or any other time during the
series to eliminate the LA Lakers, does that soften the
blow for Niko Harston in Dallas about trading Luca.

Speaker 5 (45:01):
Not them losing how they lose, Like yes, Tenser crust.

Speaker 6 (45:04):
I mean, if you he's still not defending, they're.

Speaker 7 (45:08):
Still saying Luca does not defending, He's just a loafer.

Speaker 2 (45:12):
If Luca can't get out of the first round with
Lebron James, does that make it a little bit softer
of a blow for Dallas Bavericks fans.

Speaker 4 (45:22):
And that's what I'm saying, Like, it's about how it
looks like. It makes it soft because of how this
looks like. If the Lakers would lose, but Luca was
out here forty one points, twelve rebounds, seven and six,
if he was bawling, then you still would miss him.
But if you're starting to watch, you don't trust Luca.

(45:44):
You don't trust Luca in big moments. Yes, I know
he got to the finals last year. Let's not forget
about what Kyrie did. But what did he look like
in those finals? Yes, he got to those Western Conference
finals three years ago. Who helped get them there? The
same dude that you're playing against Detroit now, Jaylen Brunson.
In the big moments, Luca, he doesn't look like the
Luca you love in the regular season. He doesn't look
like the guy who's mister triple double or walking a

(46:06):
walking fifty if he needs to be. He doesn't look
like that guy. Just look at the guy who's playing
against Anthony Edwards. Do you ever have a problem with
Anthony Edwards on the basketball court. No, he's gonna play
on a defensive side. He's gonna play on an offensive side.
And in those moments, just like in this series, he's
gonna take that shot.

Speaker 5 (46:24):
He's gonna get that Rebard. He is punking Lebron right
now and don't care about it.

Speaker 2 (46:29):
He punk KD last year.

Speaker 5 (46:31):
I trust Anthony Edwards, don't trust Luca.

Speaker 2 (46:34):
And well said, just big picture wise for the league,
big picture wise for the league. Is it better to
have and eliminate Lebron in this series or is it
just the name of the front the Lakers is the
only thing that matters in the NBA. You want the Lakers.
You want the Lakers. You want the Lakers. But as
the NBA transitions to find the next American board superstar

(47:00):
are in Yes, they are looking for an American born superstar.
Whatever you believe about that. You know, Luca or.

Speaker 7 (47:09):
Jannis or right here in Detroit.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
By the way, okay, Cade, fine win a playoff series
first and then we can talk, but Jason Tatum does
not feel like that guy. I think the NBA is
desperate for Anthony Edwards to elevate his game and be that.
This kid's personality is as good as it gets, this
kid's competitive nature is as good as it gets. Why

(47:33):
wouldn't you, if you're the league, want this kid to
be on the game's biggest thing.

Speaker 4 (47:38):
I think the fans for Lebron are very few in
this space. I think there's more fans of the league evolving.
The league is always evolving and had no problems with that.
It seemed like this particularly is a little bit stagnant,
trying to keep carry around, keep us Lebron James around.
Adding Luca Donish to the Lakers so that Lebron had
a chance to get to the Western Conference Finals. I

(48:00):
think for this season, because we know the deal with
Lucas really about next season. Next season is the season
that the Lakers believe they were gonna make it. That's
why they nicked to mark the Robinson deal from the
Charlotte Hornets. Next season is the season from there, the
fact that they made it and he gets bounced back,
and this is what the league needs. You remember how
the starting five the show on Netflix. Anthony was on there,

(48:22):
Lebron was on there. Anthony's first segment was about Lebron
James and like removing the old guard, if you will,
killing the legends, if you will respect but at the
same time get mine and now you have an opportunity
for that to be true. OKC shake gillis just Alexander
and then Minnesota.

Speaker 5 (48:43):
This is what the league needs. You need to see
that they're playing too.

Speaker 4 (48:46):
They're guys, but they're not giving it to them and
they're not giving Minnesota anything.

Speaker 5 (48:50):
Minnesota's taking it.

Speaker 6 (48:51):
And not only that, Baus Anthony Edwards is kind of
like falling off, right, he kind of falling off Now
this series, he's put himself back on the map because
he's in Lebron's face. He's pushing on him. He's doing
everything he can to win this series for his team,
and he's showing Lebron, I ain't scared of you. I
know you're the guy you call yourself the king. I

(49:13):
know you this, YOU'REDD you got this record, But he
don't care. He is pushing back, so he has put
himself back in the talk to be the possible face
of the NBA going face.

Speaker 2 (49:24):
I gotta read this one. This one chat from Vincent
Chambers says Ryan trying to imply that dad was freeloading
off Son was hilarious. You're not that slick, Ryan. Well,
I'm sorry, Vincent. Tyrese Haliburton senior is a basketball referee.
Tyrese Haliburton makes two hundred and forty four million dollars.

(49:47):
If Halliburton Junior isn't taking care of Halliburton senior, well
then shame on him. So I don't think you're buying
courtside seats season n wortside seats on a basketball referee
salary salary. So yeah, whoever's got the money's got the power.

(50:08):
Tony Montana taught to you that nineteen hundred and eighty three,
something like that. Whoever got the money, you got the power,
then you get then you get the women.

Speaker 5 (50:19):
That's the thing.

Speaker 4 (50:19):
If halliburtons, if Halliburton the senior, so Tyres Halliburton's father
had respect and he had any type of common sense,
then it wouldn't be about who has the money and
the power. It would be about your father having sense.
Because Stan that was I had more money than him
when I was in the league, my dad wouldn't have
ran on the court and it wouldn't have been on
me to make him at.

Speaker 2 (50:39):
That way if you feel me so. Yeah. But that's
a different dynamic though too, because Stan has respect.

Speaker 4 (50:45):
But what I'm saying it is just because you have
the money, it is not you have power. I didn't
have the power over.

Speaker 2 (50:50):
My dad because I oh yeah, yeah, I see it.

Speaker 5 (50:53):
And I didn't need to have that in that situation.

Speaker 2 (50:55):
I see what you're saying. I see what you're saying
on that.

Speaker 6 (50:58):
Hey, we got we got Dave on the phone whenever
want to go to All things are not created, you know.

Speaker 2 (51:06):
All right, let's go to the phone lines and we're
just gonna blow through this break. Okay, he blow through
the top of the hour here hung in the He's
to go dat uh And for my money, he's the
greatest beat reporter in any sport that we have in
this city. Dave Key Press Lions beat reporter author as well. Dave,

(51:29):
first off, thanks so much for fighting fighting through those
technical problems with us.

Speaker 16 (51:35):
Buy a book too, while I have neither power nor
money otherwise.

Speaker 2 (51:43):
Uh bye. By one of Dave's books, Detroit Lions and
Illustrated timeline as well anywhere books are sold. Dave. First off,
haven't talked to you since the Drafters over your big
picture take the Lions got better. It looks like what
was your major take away from the draft?

Speaker 16 (52:02):
Yeah, I think it was a like a maintaining draft,
if that makes sense. You know, it's a really good
team in the NFL right now, and everything they did
just sort of maintains their spot. You know, they probably
didn't draft any stars, but I.

Speaker 15 (52:15):
Like Tyler Williams.

Speaker 16 (52:16):
You know, he'll play a big role for them this year,
whatever capacity that is. They probably got a starting guard
out of it. You know, when you draft a couple
offensive linemen and and you draft an interior defensive lineman,
you're trying to maintain what you are and that's a
really good team.

Speaker 15 (52:31):
So you know, you can quivalent with how much they
paid to get Isaac Tesla. I certainly thought that was
an overpay.

Speaker 16 (52:37):
But overall, you know, I don't have any problems with
what Bradhlmes did.

Speaker 2 (52:41):
Well, let me stick there for a second. Then with Tesla,
I believe I heard and correct me if I'm wrong
that Brad Holmes had him as his favorite receiver in
the draft.

Speaker 7 (52:52):
Is that true.

Speaker 15 (52:54):
Yeah, that's what he said yesterday, said that was his
favorite receiver. Now he did, you know, Couch said and say,
that doesn't mean and I thought he was the best.

Speaker 16 (53:01):
Receiver, but his favorite receiver prospect. And you know, look,
I think that comes down to, you know, the way
he blocks, you know, the ability to play special teams,
some of the some of the other the competitive side.

Speaker 15 (53:14):
Of things more than just the you know what.

Speaker 16 (53:18):
He's going to be able to provide, be between the
lines on offense.

Speaker 15 (53:21):
And and you know they certainly like that too. I
mean Brad talked after.

Speaker 16 (53:24):
The draft about him being a hands catcher, and obviously
we know.

Speaker 15 (53:28):
The hightweight, trade speed, the trade traits that he has.
So they liked him overall. I know there were teams out.

Speaker 16 (53:35):
There that liked them too.

Speaker 15 (53:37):
You know, we wrote a big feature on him before
the draft, thought he'd.

Speaker 16 (53:40):
Go in the middle rounds.

Speaker 15 (53:41):
But still to give up two thirds, two future your thirds,
that's a hefty price to pay.

Speaker 2 (53:48):
dB. What's going on? I always good to talk to you.

Speaker 5 (53:51):
Yeah you too, mam uh.

Speaker 4 (53:53):
Yesterday Brad Holmes to listen to an interview and he
was talking about I didn't know if he was trolling
or if he was dead. Seriously asked him why the
need to draft the edge rush? They asked, or do
you know why the fans, the fan bays wanted him
the draft edge Rush? And his response was, I do not.
I'm asking you, is this Brad Holmes doing doing more
trolling or is this a serious answer to a question

(54:16):
that would be interesting.

Speaker 2 (54:18):
Now.

Speaker 15 (54:19):
I you know, look, I like Brad a lot.

Speaker 16 (54:21):
You know, we've obviously had some back and forth, and you.

Speaker 15 (54:23):
Know, this is a guy that you know, said I
wanted them to draft a quarterback over pine Sewell, you know,
so he he certainly remembers some of these things, even
though that was not true. I never said that, you know,
not at seven especially.

Speaker 16 (54:37):
But look, you know, he's you know, Brad. I think
Brad understands.

Speaker 15 (54:41):
You know, It's just he gets sick.

Speaker 16 (54:42):
Of the badgering and the you know, he likes, he
wants you know, he does a really good job with
drafting talent, identifying the right players for this team.

Speaker 15 (54:53):
To draft, and you know, giving the coaching staff players
that can be developed. And you know, I think he
just you know, he wants everybody to trust and say.

Speaker 16 (55:02):
Hey, this is this is the way I see it.
But by counter that would be like, you know, we're
not inside the room. We don't get the full explanation
of Hey, this is the faith that we have in
Josh Pastell or Marcus Davenport, or why we're doing this,
or why we don't like.

Speaker 15 (55:15):
You know, this defensive end. And so there's a lot
that we don't know. And as he said after the draft,
you know, he said, you guys are asking all these
questions because.

Speaker 16 (55:24):
Aiden got hurt last year. I said, no, no, it's
because we think that's like the thinnest position on your
roster right now. You know, it's a really good roster,
but there's some questions about who plays opposite Aiden. So
maybe there's a.

Speaker 15 (55:35):
Little disconnect because.

Speaker 16 (55:37):
You know, everything that maybe you see.

Speaker 15 (55:39):
In on the internet isn't necessarily what the beat writers
that talk to him every day, you know, present to him.
But I think he understands, but he maybe.

Speaker 16 (55:51):
Disagrees with the stance that you know, the Lions still
needs some measure.

Speaker 2 (55:55):
Us up and Dave, I, I I completely understand that.
Here's where I was, and I listened to the interview
yesterday on the Lion's flagship station, and I this is
a couple of times now, and you know, for lack
of a better word, it feels like Brad Holmes is
getting a little snarky and you know, like the which

(56:19):
is fine. He has every right to do so, don't
don't make any mistake about that. But I guess I'm
just surprised because he's a guy that I think gets it.
He totally understands everything that's going on. He's really damn
good at his job. But to come out before the
draft and say just wait for the movie to be over,
or treat it like a book club and and wait

(56:43):
for the book to be over. We don't have the
benefit of You don't have the benefit of writing one
column per month or us doing one show per month. Well,
in my case sometimes I take a lot of time off,
but you don't. You don't have that benefit. And I
just feel like for a guy that really understands what

(57:04):
the deal is, uh, it's it's it's beneath him, I
feel like, what what say you?

Speaker 15 (57:10):
Well, yeah, I don't mind the back and forth.

Speaker 16 (57:12):
I mean again, I like Brad.

Speaker 15 (57:14):
I think he you know, I think obviously, like you said,
he's done a really.

Speaker 16 (57:17):
Really good job. I mean he's a two time you.

Speaker 15 (57:19):
Know, Executive of the Year by the.

Speaker 16 (57:21):
Pro Football Writers, so clearly everyone on this side of
the business has respect for the job that he's doing.

Speaker 3 (57:29):
You know.

Speaker 15 (57:30):
So I don't I don't mind those.

Speaker 16 (57:31):
The back and forth a little bit. In fact, I
like it, like I like a guy who you know,
is confident in what he's doing and maybe we'll tell
you some some things, you know, in terms of like, hey,
this is you know. He he does explain a little
bit like you don't know everything. You don't know everything
that we know. And I don't think he's saying that
in like a demeaning way. I just think he's being honest,
Like there is so much that goes into the work

(57:54):
that they do that we don't know, and we don't
know the you know, the character greens or the medical
red flag are these things that all go into this
prospect evaluation, and.

Speaker 15 (58:04):
You know, he's obviously not going to tell us all
of that, at.

Speaker 16 (58:06):
Least not publicly. So I don't mind the back and forth.
I do think he understands maybe a little bit more
than he lets on why we.

Speaker 15 (58:15):
Ask him about the defensive ends.

Speaker 16 (58:17):
Or whatever needs they have. But also I think He
just wants the fans, everyone else.

Speaker 15 (58:22):
That's outside of the building to sort of trust.

Speaker 16 (58:24):
That he has a vision and he's doing everything he
can to make that vision come to life of building
a Super Bowl contender.

Speaker 6 (58:31):
I'll tell you it is Dave. He got me excited
with the edge he did get finally from Boise State hasanid.
I mean, when you hear this kid and you meet
him the way we have, it's I don't understand how
he lasted as long as he did. Am I missing
something about this guy? How did he last into the
sixth or seventh round?

Speaker 16 (58:52):
Well, I think you have to look a little bit
beyond the stat production, you know, and Brad even sort
of hinted at that with his amen's post draft. I mean,
this is a you.

Speaker 15 (59:02):
Know, a developmental prospect and the you know, in the
trust sense.

Speaker 3 (59:05):
Of the word.

Speaker 17 (59:06):
You know, he's he's a guy that hasn't played a
lot of football. You know, right now, he's a high
voter guy will chase after the passer. But I think
there's a lot to learn in terms of pass crush
technique and you know, some of the everything else that
goes into playing the position, defending the run, having the
instincts that you need. I mean, you think about what
he said about kylerk Williams, that TYLERK Williams was one

(59:28):
of the two most instinctive defensive tackles in the draft. Well,
Ahmed would probably be near the bottom of.

Speaker 16 (59:35):
The most instinctive defensive ends. So I think there's a
lot that goes into it. But the Lions like the
work ethic enough and believe that this guy is going
to do everything he can to improve all those those
deficiencies in his game, and that's why you know they
decided to take a late round flyer on him.

Speaker 7 (59:51):
So is this another Giovanni Manu maneuver?

Speaker 16 (59:55):
I'm sorry said that one more time.

Speaker 7 (59:57):
Is this another Giovanni Manu maneuver?

Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 16 (01:00:00):
I think that's right. I mean, obviously they didn't spend
you know, the same cycle capital, but you know, I'd
be surprised if he had a big role this year,
even though they haven't need a defensive end. In fact,
you know, I think there's probably still a veteran move
to make it the position sometime before camp, just to
show up that position.

Speaker 7 (01:00:18):
That's why I wanted to ask you about can it
be Zadarias Smith?

Speaker 16 (01:00:21):
Finally, well, you know, I don't know if it's gonna
be z the Darius. I mean, you know, obviously he's
the big one that's still floating out, and you know,
if I'm Malaions, I wouldn't do anything until he finds
a home because he does bring some passer rush and
you know, he's familiar with the defense in the locker
room and you know, so that that one will certainly
be hanging out there until Zadarias signs.

Speaker 15 (01:00:42):
They had I believe it was Walker from.

Speaker 16 (01:00:45):
The Bears last year, came on on a free agent
visit before the before.

Speaker 15 (01:00:49):
The draft, and you know, so there's some other.

Speaker 16 (01:00:51):
Veterans out there that can sort of be one year
stop gap type players, but you know, nothing that's gonna
you know, really, I think at least, you know, excite
the fan base.

Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
Hey, Dave, I mentioned this the other day, and I'm
curious to see what you think about it. Regardless of
what the fans believe the Lions need at edge opposite Aiden,
I feel like Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell are more
than comfortable with Marcus Davenport lining up opposite Aiden Hutchinson.
And then of course you've got Pascal and you're sticking

(01:01:25):
on Zerique out there. I feel like they believe they
are in a good spot opposite Aidam. Do you buy that?

Speaker 16 (01:01:33):
No, you're right about that. And look, I mean, the
reality is that Marcus Davenport hasn't played more than four
games the last two years. You know, he's he's, he's,
he's you know, I thought he did some good things
though the limited time he was on the field last year,
but he just hasn't been healthy.

Speaker 15 (01:01:49):
And that's, you know, a skill in the NFL, and.

Speaker 16 (01:01:52):
That's something that the Lions are are gambling on. That's
why they got him as cheap.

Speaker 15 (01:01:55):
As they did, and that's why they.

Speaker 16 (01:01:58):
Got him on a one year deal. But four games
two years ago in Minnesota, two games last year. The
Lions need more than that from their other starting defensive
end if they're going to contend for Super Bowl. That's
just the reality of it. Otherwise it's going to be
the same situation where trade deadline comes around and they're
looking for another pass rusher, they're looking for another big
defensive end and now they don't have any third round

(01:02:19):
picks to go get that guy because they used them
both on Isle of Tesla.

Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
Well, he leads right to that point. How does he tested?
Everybody wants me to ask that question. So here we are, dB,
what was the move to move up to get this
player that was wearing one forty nine?

Speaker 5 (01:02:33):
And you know, do you believe in the move.

Speaker 16 (01:02:38):
For Tesla? Broke up a little bit there?

Speaker 15 (01:02:41):
He look?

Speaker 16 (01:02:42):
I mean, you know he's a highway speed guy, right, Tesla?
And you know, I think if you talk to different people,
they'll tell you different things about his film at Arkansas.
And he didn't have a lot of catches last year,
and and you know, some of that obviously was due
to the quarterback play in the offense, and maybe it's
not completely him, but he wasn't a full time starter
last year. And so that's where some of the question

(01:03:03):
comes in, like, you know, is this really the best
receiver that you could get or was this really the
guy that's worth because he is every look, you can
see the developmental traits, but was he really worth the
cost it that it was to go get him, to
move up thirty two spots and to give up your
two you know, third round picks next season? Like I
think Tesla is probably your number five receiver this year.

(01:03:25):
You still have Tim Patrick, you still have Kolie Rayman.
You know, the base cases, they'd say, like in financial talk, right,
is that he's your number three receiver two years from now.
There's probably some upside there, like maybe he can be
at number two, But you know what's the is that
really worth the cost of two third round picks?

Speaker 6 (01:03:42):
Was this that pook In Nakula? Is everyone looking for
a pook In Nakula type player?

Speaker 16 (01:03:48):
Yeah, I mean that's the natural because he played the
slot and he's a bigger guy, you know, he blocks
into some of those things. And obviously Brad was you know,
on the front line of you know, not that pick,
but some of the you know, good receiver picks that
the Rams had with Cooper cupped and then obviously you
know Amana here and so I think you can, you know,
that's the that's the best case scenario, but I think

(01:04:10):
that the base case, you know, the most likely scenario
is that you traded two third round picks for a
guy that's going to be your number three receiver in
twenty twenty six whole.

Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
How many Day one starters do you think the Lions
got in this draft? I mean, you look at rat
Ledge you'll look at ty Leek Williams, those two guys,
and you had mentioned that this feels like a maintaining draft,
and I totally agree with that. Those guys look like
players that can line up week one of the season.

Speaker 16 (01:04:46):
Right, And I think that's the maximum that you have
week one. I look, you know, TYLERK. Williams is going
to be a good player, and I don't think anyone
would dispute that. You know, he's a big defensive tackle,
he moves well, he's three hundred and thirty pounds right now.
Maybe you know, maybe he settles in his NFL career
at you know, three oh five or something, and all
of a sudden you got a better interior rusher than

(01:05:07):
you think you have. But you know, levi anderque and
DJ Reader would still be my favorites to start at
defensive Taco week one. You know, maybe it's a case
where Tyleek is your number three right off the bat,
and once a Lee McNeil comes back, he's you know,
sort of kind of a part time starter in there.
But I think they do have a starting guard probably
in Tate Ratledge, and you know they needed that spot,

(01:05:28):
and you know, maybe it Ultimately it could be Tate
Ratledge and Christian Mahogany is your two starting guards next
next year. I think that's the That's something that the
Lions will sort out in training camp. What Roll gram
Glasgow has, What role these young guards have. But at
least they have some use on that offensive line that
they wanted to get.

Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
So it was announced that they're going to play in
the Hall of Fame game and they will have an
elongated training camp and not do a mandatory mini camp.
How do you think that will affect, you know, the
younger players specifically in I don't know if it's getting
that kind of work in and then you can take

(01:06:05):
a couple of weeks and let it set in. You
know what I'm trying to say here. You get that
it's almost like you know, you're studying for a test
that's happening in a couple of weeks. But you got that.
You got that book on a Monday, and you don't
have to take that test for a little while. But
you think about it constantly. How how much of an
imbalance or benefit or not will it be to kind

(01:06:29):
of not do that mandatory mini camp and just have
a long camp.

Speaker 16 (01:06:35):
Yeah, you know my I think my initial reaction was,
you know why, like that's that's time that you have
to you know, to get better and that you can
be here. But then the more I thought about it,
it was like, no, no, that's probably the right move,
Like you know, bravely can't access to this like that
rest is valuable before a season, you know, like and

(01:06:56):
not just for players, for coaches. I mean those guys
they've been burning the out or even though we haven't
seen it, you know, they're still in their every day busts,
in their butts, trying to put this playbook together, get
used to each other, you know, do everything that comes
on the coaching side of things. So they're coming back
a week early for training camp. They're basically cutting you know,
the last week of the off season program off, so

(01:07:16):
everybody still gets their five or six weeks of rest
before the season begins. And you know, Ryan, to use
your analogy, right, that test, Look, that test was going
to come the same day no matter whether they took
that extra week of practice in the spring or not.
Now they're getting a few extra days of padded work
and that it's still the same amount of time. So

(01:07:38):
anyone who's serious about their craft, and I think most
of these players are. They know what they have to
do this offseason in terms of workouts with teammates or
in the weight room or getting in the playbook. And
you're right, maybe for a rookie or two, there's a
little extra hump in that you know that they have
to get over. But the Lions aren't going to be
counting on too many of those rookies early in the season.

(01:07:59):
So I I like to move by Dan Campbell. I
think it's probably the right thing to do to take
care of his players now, to make sure that it
try to get some payoffs at least in the fault.

Speaker 6 (01:08:07):
Hey Dave, did you I know you probably kept an
eye on the Bears Colston Loveland, and I heard Ian
Rappaport say a lot of teams wanted to move up
until Loveland went off the board. Was he like the
secret guy that was what everyone was waiting to sign?
I mean, Tyler Warren was the favorite to be drafted first.
But they go and get Loveland and then they get

(01:08:29):
that wide receiver that they like. Would you think of
what the Bears did?

Speaker 16 (01:08:33):
Yeah, No, I was a little surprised, just because you know,
not just like modn Draftnicks, but at least a couple
of scouts that I had talked to about the tight
end group and didn't do a ton of work on it,
because especially at the top, the Lions have their guy.
You know, I thought Tyler Warren was the guy. But
you know, those are two different tight ends in some ways,
and so I think, you know, for what then wants

(01:08:54):
to do, he really valued the versatility that Colston Lovelin has,
the in line blocking ability, you know, the willingness to
do some of that stuff that the athleticism that he has,
and some of the things that maybe he can line
them up in different spots as a receiver. And so yeah,
I think though I was a little surprised that they
took him with Tyler Warren on the board, I guess

(01:09:16):
I understand what they were trying to do. And and
you know, Ian's right that there were two, at least
in my eyes, there are two pretty elite tight ends
in this draft. And and so it doesn't surprise me
to hear that teams wanted to move up and get
one in a draft that didn't have a ton of
true first round talents. It didn't surprise me that teams
would want to go up and get one of those
offensive playmakers.

Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Subscribe to the Free Press. He is the Lions beat

books are sold. The great Dave Briquette. Thank you so much, Bud,
appreciate it.

Speaker 16 (01:09:50):
Thanks no problem guys talking about it.

Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
You got it. Great stuff. And again, yeah, I just
I find him to be the most complete beat reporter
in any sport here that we have in the city

Beck to you boys, got some guys in the chat
tell him telling us Braylan knows more about baseball than
all of us, because he said Elmago had hit three
hundred this year, and Elmago is doing it all this year.
He's playing every position, hit a Grand Slam. Today, Tigers
are trying to snap a two game losing streak. They're

(01:16:08):
beating the Astros right now in the fourth.

Speaker 4 (01:16:10):
Maybe once a while you get lucky, but you know
those are over the top predictions.

Speaker 5 (01:16:15):
But it doesn't seem to be that way so far
as it's holding firm.

Speaker 7 (01:16:18):
Can we just say you injected life into him?

Speaker 2 (01:16:20):
Could we just say I'm the first guy to do
it when I'm wrong, Malik Willis or any of those
other well, exactly. But whatever I'm wrong about, I'll tell you, boy,
did I get hobby or Bias wrong? We all did,
I mean we were, we especially Neil. We killed, We

(01:16:42):
killed Scott Harris and more importantly, we killed I'll speak
for myself, Chris Ilich for not just writing him a
check to go away. You know when Gores paid what's
the when Gores paid money Williams eighty million bucks to

(01:17:04):
walk away? What's the first thing we said? Good boy,
that cheapskate. Chris Ilich would never do that to Javier Baiaz.
And let me tell you we were all wrong, because
this is the best team in the American League. And
a major reason why, and I don't use that word loosely,
A major reason why is because of how good Javier

(01:17:27):
Biaz has been this season. Not only good on the field,
really good on the field, but a great teammate. Javier
Baiaz's playing center field, He's to play a third base, terrific.
Wherever you want him to play, he plays wherever you

(01:17:49):
want him to hit in the lineup, He's gonna hit.
That says a lot about who Javier Biaz is, and
I think collectively we all owe him an apology. And
Chris Ilache and Scott Harris.

Speaker 7 (01:18:00):
I'm getting a bias jersey.

Speaker 2 (01:18:02):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (01:18:05):
Yeah, but here's a question. Do we owe him apology? Yes,
going into this season, going into the season first, But
that's what I'm saying though, like, do you owe him
an apology or.

Speaker 5 (01:18:18):
Is it based off what we had seen so far
in hobby.

Speaker 4 (01:18:21):
Bias his play on the field when he was sucking
the life out of the locker room of the dugout.
Excuse me, that's what it seemed like. It seemed like
he was part of the losing Tigers. It seemed like
he was part of this is no longer the hobby
at bias for Chicago.

Speaker 5 (01:18:34):
Why they're paying this money. They're keeping him on the
roster and last.

Speaker 4 (01:18:37):
Year he had the worst percentage in n LB history
with twenty games left in the season. So I don't
think it was we owe an apology. I think it
was he saw what he saw only and now we're
seeing it too.

Speaker 7 (01:18:54):
It's awesome, man.

Speaker 6 (01:18:55):
He likes playing for a winner, right, Everyone loves playing
for a winner, and it just seems that it's the
perfect time. Unfortunately, Riley Green has become him. So we
have to hope Riley Green can snap out if a
Torque is starting to go into the hole a little bit.
He's hitting the balls hard, he's getting them out deep.
But it's not happening right now. But they win. They've

(01:19:18):
lost two games in a row that they shouldn't have
lost to the Astros errors and mistakes. Carpenter is playing
good as well. He doesn't play enough if you ask me.
But this is a ten game road trip. Today's game
would be a nice step. If they could win this one.
It's gonna be their first series loss in a long time.
They lost the first two, but ten games man on

(01:19:40):
the road. If they can come home five and five,
I'd be happy. Six and four, I'd be ecstatic.

Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
Outside of the Dodgers losing three straight to start the season,
this team cuts off losing streaks at two.

Speaker 7 (01:19:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
Now the game is currently if you're not watching this live,
the game is a seven to one game. Still early,
it's seven to one in the fourth Tigers. And maybe
you crucify me for saying this, I'm just gonna go
ahead and count this as a W for the audience.
Oh God, But this team, because of their staff, because

(01:20:15):
of how good this pitching staff is they can lose
three games in a row, right, They ain't gonna lose
four or five games in a row for Okay, So
right now they've lost two games in a row. We
talked about the Pistons stopping a twenty one game or
a twenty one zero run in game one, or the
Pistons stopping at nine to zero run in game five.

(01:20:37):
Who's gonna Who's gonna stop the bleeding? This pitching staff
will cut. That will make a tourniquit to a losing streak.
Unlike anything else we've ever seen.

Speaker 6 (01:20:47):
Job is on the hill today. He's eventually, he's eventually
supposed to be your eights.

Speaker 2 (01:20:51):
He is gonna take over for scoops. Yes, right, because
I mean nobody. We hope we keep school. Yeah. I
don't know if that's gonna happen or not, but I
think this team is pretty confident. I think you have Jackson.
Job is gonna take over for Terry. That to know,
I don't even want to get into that.

Speaker 6 (01:21:05):
Let's just win game twenty tonight. That would be fun
if you could get to twenty and twelve. I'm good, right, great,
I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
You guys want to talk about Kirby Joseph for a minute.
He got paid four years eighty six million dollars. Here's
Kirby Joseph talking about his love for the game.

Speaker 19 (01:21:22):
Honestly, the money never motivated me. I do this because
I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
You know.

Speaker 19 (01:21:26):
It's of course, it's it's a bonus, you.

Speaker 3 (01:21:29):
Know, come with it.

Speaker 19 (01:21:32):
But I really played this game because I love it, man,
And it was just honestly, like man like, I just
have a certain passion for this game, like I feel
I could never let go, you know. So honestly, it's
always gonna be motivation, but it's a mentality within myself that, man.
Now I'm trying to pr so I got ten, I
mean I got nine. I gotta get ten. Get some

(01:21:54):
some sacks in there, you know what I'm saying, just
going against myself. And by the way, I'm always going
to strike for the great greatest, like striving to beat records,
you know what I'm saying, reach for that.

Speaker 3 (01:22:04):
But really, man, it's.

Speaker 19 (01:22:06):
Man, it's it's only off from here, you know, And
I don't see that goes a long way. I feel
like it's a sense of security, you know. I feel
like the Lions, they do a great job. Brad he
does a great job of like like he said, like
he likes to keep his guys, you know what I'm saying,
and keeping that culture, keeping that locker room like how
it is.

Speaker 3 (01:22:22):
I feel like.

Speaker 19 (01:22:22):
That's a huge thing because you know, everybody was happy
for men. I came in today seeing everybody talking about
let me hold a dollar. So it's just funny, Like
it's just funny to see everybody happy, you know what
I'm saying. It's always great to see my teammates. You know,
they they wanted me back, so you know I'm back,
and you know they know I deserved it, and they

(01:22:43):
you know, they just happy to see me happy, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:22:46):
And I'll tell you what an organization the Detroit Lions are.
I was in a suite on Sunday at the Pistons
game and the next week with Sheila Ford hamp and
she was out, you know, smiling, she was booing the refs.
It was awesome to see. But it just speaks to
her leadership as owner as well. I think that you
don't have these problems that you have in San Francisco,

(01:23:09):
in Cincinnati, in Jacksonville, this dysfunction. Who is the last
Lions player under this regime that had to wait to
get paid fair market value.

Speaker 3 (01:23:21):
I'll wait.

Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
These guys, if they perform, if they put in the work,
they get rewarded and they don't have to wait. And
I think that says a ton about an organization. I'm sorry,
say it again, my APOLSI the Lions take care of
their players. They yeah, I mean, basically, they take care

(01:23:50):
of their players. You don't have to know. It's not
a wide receiver in Cincinnati, it's not the quarterback in
San Francisco, it's not the defensive tackle. And Incinnati guys
don't have to go to the media to get paid.
The lines will take care of you. You put in
the work, you'll get your contract.

Speaker 4 (01:24:10):
What we seen for Brad Holmes is they draft guys
that they want. They bring in the Detroit guy, and
what they do. They bring that guy in. He fits
all the box, he checks all the boxes, and then
once he gets into the league, once he balls, as
they say, I'm on Ross Saint Brown, he gets the
bag as he balls, as Kirby Joseph did, he gets
the bag, Pin Sue, he gets the bat. They take
care of theirs so that you don't have that negative

(01:24:32):
looming energy.

Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
In the locker room.

Speaker 4 (01:24:34):
Like when guys aren't being taken care of for whatever reason.
Use it's because teams want to be cheap. Use this
because teams want to get out of paying guys that
deserve to be paid. You start to get this feeling,
guys start to get frustrated. Now, guys that side with
those guys that are getting frustrated. Now you create a
little pocketed guys over here is.

Speaker 5 (01:24:50):
Like, yeah, this team is cheap. I don't want to
be here.

Speaker 4 (01:24:52):
You got guys over here looking at those guys. That's
what you have in Cincinnati. That's what you have in
these places. The Lions they got ahead of that. You
love your guys, your guy's ball for you. You pay your guys,
you keep good energy. The Lions have that energy. That's
what the Lions have. On every other team in this NFL.
They all rock together. There's no trying to figure out
if you know, maybe this guy is don't rock with

(01:25:13):
these guys. Everybody in this Lions team they love each other.
They play for each other, and they play for that.

Speaker 5 (01:25:18):
They're Lion on their helmet. But when you pay guys,
you just make guys eager to want to keep going.

Speaker 6 (01:25:24):
They picked out, they picked up the fifty year options
already for Hutch and Jamo. They've already told you, hey,
look we're not trading Jambo. We have never even thought
of trading Jamo. Brad loves his guys. He gave two
third round picks up for Tesla from Arkansas because that's

(01:25:45):
a guy that he wants on his team. So we
could say he traded a lot away and let's see
what the kid becomes. I got a hunch he's gonna
be pretty darn good. And for all these reaches that
they do, everyone gives them a C plus grade, a
B minus, whatever whatever the proof will be in the pudding.
Last year they won fifteen games and they lost twenty

(01:26:06):
some players off of that defense. So they want to
run this team back with most of those guys back
on the team. And I don't blame him. You know,
there was a part of me that wanted to go
out and get free agents.

Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
You know what.

Speaker 7 (01:26:19):
I'm over that now, I really am.

Speaker 6 (01:26:22):
This is a team that won fifteen games last year,
decimated by injuries, and now you add your rookie class.
What they add six players, seven players. I'm really looking
forward to the Hall of Fame game on July thirty
first in Canton, and then a couple of days later.
Of course I'll have the ceremony. Tickets are on sale.

(01:26:44):
By the way, you can call Joe Schwartz if you're
looking for a ticket.

Speaker 2 (01:26:48):
He needs to give you something. He can take it
this he doesn't want, you know what.

Speaker 6 (01:26:51):
But if you've never been to the Hall of Fame,
I highly recommend it. Now your team is there, it's
just a three hour ride three and a half hour
ride to air the Lions. Like you said, Ry, I'm
back on board with you. It hurt when they lost
to Washington, really really decimated, Like I didn't even want
to watch, and most of us hardly watched the championship

(01:27:14):
weekend and the super Bowl. We didn't give it, damn.
But now it's we're reborn. We just had our super Bowl,
which is the Draft, and in a couple of weeks
in May, I think it's May fourteenth or fifteenth, the
schedule release and then my favorite show when we go
over win Win, Win, and go over it and then

(01:27:38):
before you know it, it's camp. You heard Ryan, It's
an early camp, they Briquette told us. But they get
the week off right before the season. I think it's
gonna work out great for him. It's almost like a
bye week.

Speaker 5 (01:27:49):
That game was.

Speaker 4 (01:27:51):
It was a real in the sense of what it
did for Lions fans. If you look at what all
happened in that game before for that game and after
that game, you got Aiden Hutchson out and a bunch
of other stars on defense, a bunch of stars on defense,
and Mike Robinson goes down. But it's how you lost
that game that had people like, maybe we.

Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
Should do this, or maybe we should do that.

Speaker 4 (01:28:15):
Quarterback didn't play his best game, coordinator didn't call his
best game, the head coach had some moments in there.
Players had moments in there where they had mental lapses.
So when you look at the all of the equations,
the injuries leading up, are these players gonna be healthy
enough for next season? And then you watch that team,
the one team I said I didn't want them to
play was a dog gone Washington Commanders because the unknown

(01:28:38):
and it was the unknown and we saw a good
Jayson danielsis And now you finish that game, you get
back in that are they good enough? Are they good enough?
That's a real faught that's real fear. It's deserve it fear.
But now that we've kind of come down to that point,
now everybody's getting back and too, Okay, we do have
this offense, we do have this coach, we do have
these defensive players. They will be back, they will be healthy,

(01:28:59):
and at Holmes does seem to know what he's doing
in the draft. So this is kind of an easing
period as you get to many Campanolta's.

Speaker 7 (01:29:07):
Going back to that playoff game.

Speaker 6 (01:29:09):
In hindsight, I think they would have probably lost to
anyone because they played a lousy game. Washingtondn't do anything
that they didn't expect. Washington don't rush the passer, Washington
can't stop the run. The Lions stopped themselves that game.
You had the two coaches and yeah, say what you want,
but their mind was here and their mine was on

(01:29:32):
the game. But their mind was here because they're thinking
of their future. How many millions and where am I
gonna move my family? They knew, so they weren't a million,
one hundred on the game. So it didn't matter who
the Lions played. They just played their best game against
the Vikings to win the fifteenth and final game of
the year and to get the home field advantage, and

(01:29:53):
they left it all on the table. And then they
lost two more guys in that Washington game and Golf
got concussed. That's what hap in that game. They would
have lost to any damn team. Probably they were not
ready to play that game.

Speaker 4 (01:30:05):
The one thing I will stay with mass and this
is you and I actually agree with this. At one point,
if they start, Jamior gives them they'll win that game,
but they won't win the next game.

Speaker 5 (01:30:18):
And everybody else too.

Speaker 4 (01:30:20):
Everybody always says, but Bray, they were up fourteen, they
were about to or they were up fourteen.

Speaker 5 (01:30:24):
And they were gonna keep going in and went down.

Speaker 4 (01:30:27):
What I'm telling you is that when that defense saw
that they can make the mighty offensive line, I mean,
excuse me, the mighty Lions offense that had broken all
the NFL records, When they saw they can three and
out that defense, That's what it does to your mental
because coming to that game, that defense is like, say, man,
this they got Jamior Gibbs and Jamo runs four to
two and I'm run say Brown is the elite of

(01:30:49):
the elite. Damn, who's gonna checkin, Sue, Who's getting in
on peney Seue when you go three and out on
the road, same thing happened mass Infants game.

Speaker 5 (01:30:59):
Always bring up the New York Jets.

Speaker 4 (01:31:01):
We play against the Patriots in two thousand to number
one seed Patriots who just beat us forty nine and
three before that, we three and out of them. The
first possession. We was like, what this is what we're doing.
We knew we had a chance, So now you know
what it did for the offense.

Speaker 2 (01:31:16):
It picked us up, no doubt.

Speaker 4 (01:31:18):
Because now you pick them up, the offense is like, shoot,
if that's what we're doing, all right, bet Mark, throw
me the ball.

Speaker 5 (01:31:22):
We're gonna make something happen. And then we played that
way second series.

Speaker 4 (01:31:25):
Dave Harrison gets an interception, second player gets an interception
and gets down to about the thirteen.

Speaker 5 (01:31:30):
We score again. That's the energy the offensive defense had.

Speaker 4 (01:31:35):
That defense gave that offense Jaydon Dames, the gave something
to work with.

Speaker 2 (01:31:39):
That's what I believe happened.

Speaker 7 (01:31:40):
Matt Broder on the chat, hey man, we miss you
by the way. Uh, he says. Also DJ Reeder played
like brod Reck Martin against Washington fair enough raised the
law that they drafted Ty leak.

Speaker 4 (01:31:50):
He says, so yeah, mission baseball season, I might see
it all right, King, Hey, we're gonna take a break
when we come back.

Speaker 2 (01:31:57):
Jeff Albrich, the defensive coordinator for the Falcons, made a
statement today and got a fine today. You will hear
what that is coming up next to the first the
message from Lady Jane's Haircuts for Men. Guys, Let's be honest.

Speaker 2 (01:36:06):
Word over there.

Speaker 8 (01:36:07):
What would one thousand to open up your brand new
Caesars sports book accounts?

Speaker 2 (01:36:14):
Gentlemen, All right, here we go. It has been one
of the biggest conversations over the last week since the draft.
It was the prank call from the sun of the
defensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons, Jeff Olbrick, his son
got a hold of Schaduur's number through coach Oulbrick's iPad

(01:36:39):
and it was a famous prank call. By the way,
there's a lot of I didn't realize this, a lot
of prank calls. Oh yeah, this draft yep, Mason Graham's
prank call has just been released. Guy called him like
was swearing up and down at him. It was terrible.
But the Atlanta Falcons today were fined two hundred and
fifty thousand dollars by the NFL. That's a little bit

(01:37:00):
of a slap of the wrist. But Jeff Ulbrick himself
was fined one hundred grand, which I do think is significant.

Speaker 7 (01:37:08):
Arthur Blank should pay that and I think he will.

Speaker 2 (01:37:11):
Well, I don't know about that, but that is a
significant fine. And just earlier today, this is Ulbrick at
the podium with an emotional apology.

Speaker 7 (01:37:23):
First of all, I like.

Speaker 20 (01:37:24):
To publicly apologize to Shuder and Sanders family worker. Second
of all, I want to publicly apologize to mister Blank,
Terry Fautina Morris, the entire Falcons.

Speaker 21 (01:37:37):
Organization, my actions, my actions of not protecting confidential data
were excusable. My son's actions were absolutely inexcusable, and for
that we are both deeply sorry. The NFL has taken action,
and I fully respect the punishment. We take full responsibility

(01:38:00):
myself myself, and we will not be anyway going forward.
I promised my son and I work hard to demonstrate
you're better than this.

Speaker 20 (01:38:14):
Again, I'm deeply sorry for our actions.

Speaker 5 (01:38:17):
Pussure crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:38:20):
What more do you want from the guy? I mean,
I thought that was pretty out apologetic. He like a man,
he did, and I'm not I'm not sure there's more
to the story than this. I think the story dies today. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:38:35):
I think sometimes people try to add extra so the
story continues to make it hit upon home hard like
it's done, and I don't think it should have been
that much.

Speaker 5 (01:38:43):
Look in the.

Speaker 4 (01:38:43):
NFL, they have rules and guidelines and regular stations regulations,
so I understand why he gets penalized, like if you
use it, if you lose your playbook mask when I
was playing. I don't know what the price is now
because it may have gone up because he makes a
lot more money than it was ten thousand. You lose
your playbook, they have, there's prices for things if you do,
if you mishandle information, or if something gets out from

(01:39:04):
you one percent. Now, this isn't necessarily his fault, like
you says, his son's fault, sons.

Speaker 5 (01:39:09):
It's just it's his son.

Speaker 4 (01:39:11):
But these type of regulations, these type of policies, they
are in play. They already are in play. So this
finds something, they'll figure it out. Like you said, Arthur
Blank may help out with that. But something should have
been accostant to him, but not one hundred thousand, not
a hundred k.

Speaker 7 (01:39:27):
That's it's a it's a big hit. And his kid.

Speaker 6 (01:39:31):
What a shame, man, you're at all miss You're old man.
It's fucking the bill. He's just a punk. Yeah, yeah,
you did.

Speaker 7 (01:39:39):
You did an applorable thing. You thought you were great,
you thought you were cool. You had a viral video.
Yeah aha, I laughed.

Speaker 2 (01:39:46):
That's the worst part.

Speaker 7 (01:39:47):
Frat boy, I hate I hate him. I hate kids
like that.

Speaker 18 (01:39:52):
I feel like that's the worst part, the fact that
he recorded it and put it out because when we
were young and doing.

Speaker 2 (01:39:57):
We all done did stupid stuff. We didn't want to cam.

Speaker 4 (01:40:00):
I'm involved, and that's not to catch you off. And
that's the thing for me, like I know he's a
young man. And when I said yesterday, when I said
the other day, uh.

Speaker 5 (01:40:08):
Same age s door Sanders by the way, maybe a
year or two apart, but a young man.

Speaker 4 (01:40:12):
Nonetheless, with that being said, and it was a mistake
and he is a young man. With that being said,
he knew the intent and what it was gonna make
this situation be.

Speaker 5 (01:40:23):
If I'm making sense, like he knew what was going on.

Speaker 4 (01:40:27):
Let's the same thing on what I guess Mason Graham
is not the same, but he knew you recorded this video,
you know, a player. I didn't care what color player was.
Claire could have been white, black, blue, It doesn't matter.
This player falling, you call him, record calling him Like
to me, that's where it's like you did a bit
too much. There's dumb stuff and then there's things to

(01:40:47):
like f somebody's emotions up.

Speaker 2 (01:40:49):
It's like arrogantly this this Mason Graham uh all has
been released as well, the kid feeling himself doing it horrible,
dumb f You're a bleepy, bleeping clown, that's what he
called Mason Graham and he recorded himself doing it horrible. Yeah,

(01:41:09):
it's unbelievable. It's horrible. Ten players said they were pranked
Schador and Shiloh Sanders, Tyler Warren, Kyle McCord, Mason Graham,
Chase Lunt, Josh Cornley, Corley, Junior, Abdul Carter, Isaiah Bond
All prank called And yes it does. What's that?

Speaker 5 (01:41:33):
They're all like the big names Goose, They're all players ever.

Speaker 4 (01:41:36):
Talked about It does feel so just I guarantee everybody's
from Ohio.

Speaker 2 (01:41:44):
Think about it.

Speaker 4 (01:41:45):
They hate Michigan State, they hate pens dated.

Speaker 2 (01:41:48):
Right, Yeah, and again it's just you know, I'll go
back to this, like, okay, like pranking somebody is not
sexual assault, yes, you know what I mean. Like we
talk about a prank call, some of the terms that
we're using for a prank call are things that we
would be using if we were talking about somebody that

(01:42:11):
was just sexually assaulted, like violated, violated.

Speaker 7 (01:42:15):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:42:16):
So I guess I guess that's where I'm kind of
like a little because I was a college kid kid once,
and trust me, I wasn't that awesome, you know what
I mean. I think I was a good dude, but
I probably made a crap ton of did a crap

(01:42:38):
ton of crappy things, you know what I mean. So
I'm not going to stand in judgment so crazy. I
like the way it's been handled after the fact by
all parties involved. And I think you have to point
out Shadu or Sanders in this respect too, and Dion
Sanders by the way, because they could have gone another way.

(01:43:02):
They could have absolutely come out and said not enough, No,
I don't accept your apology, and that conversation continues on
and it becomes this big thing and it's not over
and everybody goes to their corners and then World War three.

Speaker 4 (01:43:20):
The biggest reason why that is is one of the
things that was never mentioned about who Diane or Stewart.
Now this isn't told. I could care less, but one
of the biggest things that they are is their faith
driven God forget.

Speaker 2 (01:43:34):
Yeah, I absolutely think you're you're spot on about that.

Speaker 5 (01:43:37):
Dione is heavily, heavily, heavily spiritual.

Speaker 4 (01:43:43):
Those are his kids. So that comes from Dion and
that comes from the Lord, so.

Speaker 2 (01:43:48):
And we need more of it.

Speaker 4 (01:43:49):
Yeah, seriously, That's why Blake Corny, it was so good
to see him and Jaj McCarthy and Michigan they were
a super on that as well.

Speaker 2 (01:43:55):
We need more of that. I I wish there was
more of U.

Speaker 6 (01:43:58):
This kid should have thought. I mean, your dad is
a public figure. He's in the NFL, man, I mean,
it's not like he's a he worked at Meyer or something.
Not that there is anything wrong with that, but at
least the people in Meyer aren't going to crush that guy.
His dad is gonna have to live this down. And
it's embarrassing, man, it's humbling. He probably doesn't have another

(01:44:23):
chance now to be a head coach. And I know
he was an interim head coach with the Jets, but
this is a black mark against him. And man, kid, man,
I got nothing to say about that kid.

Speaker 2 (01:44:37):
Dude.

Speaker 8 (01:44:37):
My dad was a you know, my dad was an
electric circuit court judge or an appointed circuit court judge.

Speaker 16 (01:44:42):
He was.

Speaker 8 (01:44:43):
He was a big time lawyer. And that was one
thing that's scared the living daylights out of me being
a kid, because I was, you know, rambunctious. I had
ad D I was you know, medicated to help myself
control my emotions. So I did pranks, I did crazy stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:44:56):
I was in a fraternity. But I always thought to
myself in the back of my head.

Speaker 8 (01:45:00):
My dad's reputation is here too, So I gotta what
tricks I do. I gotta take full responsibility to make
sure that I'm just not being a complete a hole
to my family, no.

Speaker 2 (01:45:09):
Doubt, Guys, we have so many NFL topics to discuss.
I'm no more breaks, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, no more breaks.
So I'm gonna transition to Steve Eiserman a little bit.
I listened to that yesterday. I gonna give you a
little taste of some of the things that he said.
But first and foremost, he did try to make a

(01:45:29):
trade at the deadline a lot of first of all,
just to set it up, A lot of was made
and it was a Woodward Sports video. Kudos to us
from putting it out and got seen from every NHL circle,
every hockey circle. Everybody was talking about it. And that
was Dylan Larkin coming out and saying, this team was
pretty much deflated when they did not make a deal

(01:45:51):
at the deadline. We did not get better at the
deadline significantly. That made the rounds and Steve Eisman was
asked about it yesterday. Here's what he had to say
say regarding what happened at the trade deadline.

Speaker 22 (01:46:04):
We had hoped, as I said, to try and improve
our team. There were no good options, and I can't
break the confidence of the other general managers around the
league and things that we talked about, but there was
no deals to bring in anyone of any significance that
we really felt would make a difference, not just to

(01:46:24):
make the playoffs this year, but to make us a
better team in the long run and to get trade
deadline we didn't make. Actually, we did make a trade,
and it's been talked about a lot. I sit here
today and I feel very comfortable. I can't say I'm
happy or I liked it, but I'm very comfortable with
the fact that we weren't able to make a trade

(01:46:47):
that involved our top prospects, our first round picks, any
of those highly valuable assets. We're prepared to do that,
and as shown, we did trade a first round on
draft pick recently for Alex to brink At. I feel
very good about that move. We've got an excellent player
on our team. We're going We're prepared to use our

(01:47:08):
draft picks. We're prepared to use our prospects. We're prepared
to use any player for that matter. In a trade
that makes us better and helps us in our timeline
to get better and ultimately be a team that not
only can make the playoffs but complete for compete for
a Stanley Cup. So I would point out two teams
in Montreal and Saint Louis, who at the trade deadline

(01:47:29):
were sitting outside of a playoff spot. Neither team did anything.
They both ended up making the playoffs and are playing
very well at this time, led by their best player.

Speaker 23 (01:47:39):
Depending on what free agency looks like this summer, is
this franchise prepared to go north to ten eleven million
for a player that you think could dramatically alter the team.

Speaker 22 (01:47:52):
Absolutely, we'll and we've kind of felt that from you know,
all along. We're going to look at any good player,
any player that can help us in any role. If
if there's a player worthy of spending whatever amount on,

(01:48:12):
that has an interest in playing with in Detroit and
fits a need for us, absolutely we would we would
try to do that. We as I say, we're you know,
we're in a different stage than we were maybe five
years ago, and that we have a good young nucleus
of players, and if we can add to that with
a prominent free agent. We'd certainly entertain that. I don't

(01:48:34):
do my job worrying about whether I'm on the hot
seat or not. That's your job, you know, And to
be honest with you, I don't really care what you think.
To be all with all due respect, I got to
do my.

Speaker 3 (01:48:44):
Job and I will do my job.

Speaker 22 (01:48:45):
And and you know the Illi family, I report to
them and they'll make the decision if for when that comes.
So I'm going to continue to do my job and
do what I think is right and always do what's
right for the Red Wing.

Speaker 6 (01:48:57):
Organized was he made for this.

Speaker 7 (01:49:01):
This is a guy.

Speaker 6 (01:49:02):
When he was the captain here, it's probably the last
guy that any media member would go to because.

Speaker 7 (01:49:10):
He didn't like to talk.

Speaker 6 (01:49:12):
So he takes this job, and seven years later, we're
right back here where we were. And yeah, maybe Grand
Rapids and the other minor league teams that we have
are better, but the Red Wings are not their status quo.
And he's pissed. And you know what, tough tough because

(01:49:35):
you could say you were close to making a deal
this and that or whatever, you didn't your captain spoke out.
You gave him a lashing, no question, he even said,
I'm not going to say anything what I said to him.
But if you want to ask Dylan and he wants
to tell you, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (01:49:51):
He's more than welcome to.

Speaker 6 (01:49:53):
Wow, He's more than welcome to. And I don't care.
I'm on the hot seat. That's your job. I don't
care what you think. With all due respect, he's pissed.
You know what, we're pissed. It's the only team in
Detroit that's not showing any growth.

Speaker 7 (01:50:11):
Am I wrong?

Speaker 4 (01:50:12):
No, you're absolutely correct. You're absolutely correct. And you know
why he's mad, mad Ryan Pete. You know why he's pissed.
He's pissed because when the button, when it's zipped up
at LCA, when nobody's talking in LCA, when no players,
no managers, no coaches, no owners, no one's talking, then
you just assume that everybody's on the same page.

Speaker 5 (01:50:35):
You just assume that everything.

Speaker 4 (01:50:37):
At least from the Red Wings point of view, is
peachy king And they're waiting for next year Tom McClellan
to figure it out. Okay, cool, we got the coach.
Now we'll figured it out a little bit in the
off season. This is going to be the season. That's
what we all thought, even that's what we even though
we didn't.

Speaker 2 (01:50:52):
Believe it, that's what we were failed to believe.

Speaker 4 (01:50:53):
Correct Now, when Dylan speaks, and when Dylan says that
you know what you're like, s hi T it really
is going down to l c A. If the players
don't know what's going on, that makes the fans the
anger a little bit more warned.

Speaker 7 (01:51:09):
I got respect for Dylan Larkin.

Speaker 2 (01:51:11):
Shout out the universe misking. That feels like if it's
the first thing he's done in the Red Wing uniform
where I feel like he's the captain.

Speaker 8 (01:51:18):
Right, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 7 (01:51:21):
Well, he's really not had a great team around him.

Speaker 2 (01:51:24):
I understand that what he did in the world.

Speaker 5 (01:51:27):
Look what he did in the he wasn't.

Speaker 2 (01:51:29):
I wasn't disrespecting him at all, even though that's probably
how it sounded. And that's why I hope that I
got like that was more of a compliment to him.
He just hasn't had the ability to be that player
that he was in the Yes, he just hasn't had
that ability yet. And this is the first time he's

(01:51:49):
really kind of had the ability to come out and say, okay,
enough we're as a team, we're deflated. We need some help.
And again, this is the last thing I'll say about it,
because I love This is why I don't like it
when former great players. It didn't end well for Alan Trammel,
didn't end well for Joe Dumars, and it's probably not

(01:52:11):
gonna end well for Steve Eiserman. Let's be honest, and
that is didn't and well, well, Isaiah Thomas really didn't
work for the team. But listen, Joe Dumars has not
been back at the Pistons facility since he was fired.
The fact that the Pistons and Joe Dumars have no relationship.
Final MV is Criminals MVP more important than that. You

(01:52:35):
want that built a championship team. I think that's more
impressive and more important you've been, uh than playing and
winning m VP.

Speaker 3 (01:52:45):
He was the first.

Speaker 2 (01:52:46):
Andrew Alan Tramill was run out of this town, like
you think of these players and their lower in the city.
And that's why I hate it when guys like this
take the job with an organization because it's not gonna
end well most likely. I hope I'm wrong about that,
but they got approve it. I hate when they take
management with it.

Speaker 5 (01:53:07):
I hate when they take the.

Speaker 4 (01:53:08):
Job with an ownership that is flailing or evolving or transitioning.
That's what happened with Joe d You know the end
of that family, Doctor Davis, excuse me, mister Davidson, the
end of that family.

Speaker 5 (01:53:20):
Same thing with Stevie White. He took over. Chris Hillich
was into the picture.

Speaker 6 (01:53:26):
It's now time for the hockey twenty second updates, brought
to you by Edwards and Maskenees. Knocked out the Devils
last night and four to one. Fashion Senators beat the
leaf for Zip. They're down three to two. Vegas beat
the wild three to two. They go up three to
two in the series. Oilers over the Kings three to one.

(01:53:48):
They lead the series three to two. Tonight, Caps they
host Montreal. They're up three to one. Try to put
them away. The Champs the Panthers up three to one
on Tampa. They're in Tampa and the Blues and Jets
dead hocked that too. They'll play this one in Winnipeg.
That is your NHL Stanley Cup update.

Speaker 7 (01:54:05):
My lunch now heat you lunch, but eating it all
damn day.

Speaker 4 (01:54:10):
Heck showbody, you guys appreciate all the energy. Ryander Mighty
always mass great to have you back your keep see

Speaker 5 (01:54:22):

or anything else.

Speaker 2 (01:54:26):

Speaker 5 (01:54:28):
Man, Ricky, you good over there?

Speaker 13 (01:54:31):

Speaker 5 (01:54:32):

Speaker 18 (01:54:33):

Speaker 7 (01:54:40):
