(00:14):
You are officially recording. What areyou doing texting Riley? Everything? Okay?
Oh yeah, No, he's tryingto tell me that National Girlfriend's Day
is stupid. And I'm going througha list right now, a list of
all the things you want for Nationalgirlfriend Now it already passed. Oh okay.
Now he sent me a Shelby andDylan video Shelby and he said,
(00:40):
here's what I think of your girlfriendDay. And I said, first off,
we ain't even married yet. Second, you could have sent me a
cute text or a post. Third, you can't even figure out a present
to get me for my normal birthday? What would you expect for National girlfriend
Day? Just send me a cutetext. I don't even know it makes
(01:00):
sense there's a national whatever day becauseI I think if Sean ever sent me
some and saying happy, Happy NationalGirlfriend's Day, I'd be like, huh,
thanks, why are we celebrating this? I love it? Oh I
love that. Well, maybe justdrop better hints on what you want for
(01:21):
your birthday. I have said.I even gave him one thing I would
have really liked for my birthday.I think it was Oh, that's right,
those tickets for the comedy show No, it was I wanted my car
detailed. That's it from his friend. Oh okay, he said, I'll
(01:42):
have to think of something and thenjust took me to buy clothes and then
dinner. I mean said I wouldn'treally like my car detailed for my birthday
gift. Did he think that youwere lying? Maybe that? He's like,
no, he was like, what, like, what do you want
for your birthday? And I waslike, oh, I don't know.
And I was like, oh wait, like I'm like whatever, bro oh
(02:07):
me, I'm salty. Without tellingme I'm salty, guys to explain that
he once gave me a fifty dollarsgift card to Amazon. That was your
Christmas present? Yeah, yeah, okay, that's more than Shanna and I
usually do for Christmas. So,oh well, I typically spend a lot
on him, and they're thoughtful gifts. I have in my notes whenever he
(02:30):
says something that he wants, Iput in my phone. That's a good
idea. Yeah, should probably thinkthat through as well. But now you're
gonna you're gonna be stuck with thatthe rest of your life, just so
you know, very true, Sohave fun with that. I'm gonna start
writing down list of everything he's gottenme versus what I've gotten him, and
it's gonna build up, and oneday I'm gonna be like, okay,
I expect a brand new car.Oh, listen to the podcast. That's
(02:59):
what you No. This is thefirst episode. I get in his car
and he's like, oh, Ihaven't turned my radio on in like a
week. I'm like, you sitin silence for a week. He's like
yeah, And I'm like, you'rea psychopath. Wait, you're the one
who took the psychopath. Put yourfingers down a day I knew a y
(03:20):
Okay, he's a sociopath thing.Okay, so we got a psychopath made
a sociopath. What will that equatein your children? Any normality? Oh?
I don't know. Speaking of normalthings. It is early August,
and I did research for a hauntedwedding episode because I'm getting in the spooky
(03:43):
vibe season, even though we stillgot a little ways to go, and
then I'm spooky around. That's true, but I know we've honestly joked about
doing other types of stories, likein a podcast. Obviously, doing all
of this haunted stuff doesn't really matcheverybody's bridal body but it is kind of
fun to kind of just break upthe conversations of wedding planning and fashion and
(04:09):
advice that we give. Yeah,so I'm not expecting this to be a
long episode because the first one Iwanted to do. There's variations of the
story, and they've all had differentnames, but essentially it's the same,
like underlying story. So how oldis this story? So at least on
paper? The so the origin ofthe story you can't find, but it's
(04:33):
I think I instantly know where mybrain's going. So this one though,
a variation of this story was putin a book in eighteen twenty two.
Okay, I think my brain's rightin the same realm. Oh yeah,
why I didn't think I caught ontothe I don't know why I wasn't thinking
of like an old folklore. Yeah, so I mean first place, I
(04:55):
mean, when I was googling, just got stories related to brides or weddings
or anything. It just kept pullingup horror stories like wedding day horror stories,
like not actual horror, but likegotcha worst case scenario stuff that could
happen. Saving that article I foundfor another episode because it was it was
juicy let's say the least. ButI know we were talking haunted stuff,
(05:18):
and you know, we have dreamsof owning a haunted castle somewhere in Europe
where we can just live out ourghostly lives as well as hey, we'll
turn it into a venue. Absolutely. Who doesn't want to have a spooky
ass wedding? Just kidding? Ido want to spooky sure, all right,
(05:39):
okay, are you ready? I'mready? Okay, So I'm gonna
start out with a poem from saidbook. Watch me just know all of
it. And I didn't even processthis right, Oh sad? It was
her fate in sportive jest. Shehid from her lord in an old oak
chest. It closed with a spring, and her bridal bloom lay withering there
(06:02):
in that living tomb by Samuel Rodgers. Yep, that's ring Bow. Okay.
Do you know titles of said ghoststory? I think I do,
but they're not coming like to mindto mind, okay, And I could
have sworn that a movie or something. I don't know. People have done
a lot of variations, and therehave been like movie adaptations and different things
(06:24):
over the years, or it hasinspired like horror movies essentially, So we
are gonna take a trip over tolovely England. We are going to Bram's
Hill House in Hampshire, England. That place sounds so familiar, Bram's Hill.
(06:44):
It might have been on a ghostventures, I think so. Bram's
Hill House in Hampshire, England isknown for its ghost lare and stories.
Fourteen ghosts to be exact, havebeen seen on this property over the years.
But for this episode, I wantto take time to focus on one
specific ghost. This ghost story hasbeen told and retold so many times over
(07:08):
the years that its origin is unknown. But for our episode's sake, we
are going to call our ghost bythe name she is known for at Hampshire
and Cope. Okay, As Ihad mentioned, this may be a story
you've heard before. This urban legendhas had many names, such as Bride
and Seek or the Lost Bride.Dating back to the first known recording of
(07:29):
the story was a poem by SamuelRogers called genevra I think is how you
pronounce it g i n e vr A in his book titled Italy from
eighteen twenty two. He claims hisstory is based on facts, but to
this day, many homes around theworld have laid claim to the story as
their own. In all the variations, the story has the same heart wrenching
(07:53):
ending of death, love it Okay, are you ready? Yeah? The
story goes like this. In theearly seventeenth century, a woman named Anne
Cope was set to marry Lord HughEthel at her family home of Bramshill House
on Christmas Day. It was aday that was going to be filled with
holiday festivities as well as marriage celebrations. It's easy to imagine how beautiful the
(08:18):
home must have been adorned with allof the holiday decorations, smelling of spices
like nutmeg, cinnamon, and allspice. A warm glow filled the halls from
the fires burning, keeping the spacewarm and inviting to all of the guests.
The family spared no expense when itcame to their daughter's wedding day.
If you close your eyes, youcan imagine all of the sounds, smells,
(08:39):
and excitement that must have filled theair. After the wedding nuptials had
taken place, the guests and thecouple feasted and celebrated their young love and
the feature that they will share together. Stories and drinks float freely as the
family and friends of the bride andbridegroom laughed, cried, and celebrated the
journey these two were about to take, as has been in Wife, as
(09:01):
the evening was coming to an end, is where the story takes a morbid
turn. Okay, depending on thesource, with the details of this night
can vary. But I want togive you the version with the most detail,
because why would I give you theHey, they did this and this
is how it ended. That's notfun. You don't want to please my
adhd breath. I don't. Yougotta enjoy the storytelling. Casts Imagine you're
(09:28):
in Victorian era England. We've goneover this. I can't, Yes,
you can, all right. SoAnne was going to be escorted to her
bed chambers by her maids as thenevening had ended, so she can prepare
for what was to come on thewedding night. This was very common.
They'd go get like their little outlike they would have essentially like a silky
(09:52):
dress and rope they'd put on.They'd get bathed, you know, hair
out, all that be all prettysmelling nice, so that they can essentially
consummate the marriage. Okay, Sothis is the scene that is going to
be set or where the night isa leading to. But there were some
remaining guests who suggested they play alittle game of hide and seek before the
(10:15):
evening's over. So the couple obligedtheir guests, and thus the games started.
The groom would be the seeker,as the bride and their wedding guests
would go and hide within the mansion. That's right. The groom was fast
and efficient in locating all of theguests during the game. It was the
bride that the groom, as wellas their guests could not find. How
(10:37):
could she hide so easily within thehouse in a wedding dress. Everyone at
this point joined in on the searchto find the bride and her secretive hiding
place. After several hours of searching, people started speculating that Anne was terrified
of what the evening was to bringand that she used this game to hide
away. Lord Hugh did not believehis new wife would hide away from her
(11:01):
marital bed and was worried something hadhappened to her. They checked every nook
and cranny trying to find her, with no success. The staff and family
suggested that they rest tonight and continuesearching for her tomorrow because she couldn't have
gone far. I had to seeher head nodding. Yeah, it's all
starting to come back. When itcomes to old, well famous ghost stories.
(11:26):
You can't get around me. It'strue, just like when you try
to spew wedding facts at me andnot for real. Did you know about
this fabric cast? I went tofashion school. I love you. So
tomorrow turned into days, months, and soon years had passed. People in
(11:46):
town gossiped that Anne must have beenafraid to marry the Lord and possibly ran
away with a lover, or maybehe had done something to her and used
the game as a scapegoat. Somuch speculation flowed around the leaving Lord Hugh
to hide away in Bramshill House.Fifty years later and Lord Ethel is still
(12:07):
searching for his bride. He neverbelieved any of the speculations of his young
bride leaving him. Every year hewould wander the house looking for signs of
her and possible hiding places she couldhave gotten into but not out of,
which is so interesting to me,the like how could you not find her?
(12:31):
Over years? That's why there wereso much speculation casts. It's true.
So one day Lord he was searchingfor her in the attic, a
place he had been too often. He knocked on the oak paneling, hoping
to find something, and what hefound was a hidden door he had never
(12:54):
noticed before. He pushed the dooropen and walked inside a room that hadn't
seen day light for years. Itwas dark, dusty, and filled with
dread. The only item in thisroom was a singular wooden chest. Could
this be the place his bride hidall of these years ago? As Lord
Hugh walked to the wooden chest,he took a deep breath and tried to
(13:16):
pry the lid open. It waslocked. He looked around and around until
he found something to help him prythe lid open. After some time,
it finally gave way and the lidpopped up. He wasn't prepared for what
he found inside the chest. Itwas Anne, now a skeleton, still
adorned in her wedding dress and veil. There she laid all of these years,
(13:39):
waiting for someone to find her.The lid of the chest had scratched
marks, indicating she tried to clawher way out. She light here,
slowly withering away, hoping someone wouldfind her and release her from this accidental
tomb. How cruel of a jokeon her, that she innocently hid and
trapped herself to death when her lifewas just beginning. The mystery of the
(14:01):
lost Bride was found, and whata tragedy it was. They say her
ghost roams the grounds to this dayand her soul is trapped in Bramshill House.
People have claimed that they hear scratchingand muffled noises coming from the attic.
No matter the version you hear ofthe story, it all starts and
ends the same, a young couplewith their whole life ahead of them,
ending in an innocent tragedy. Itmakes you wonder what life they would have
(14:24):
lived if they never played the gameof hide and seek. It's insane,
like could you imagine if this wasreal? Because obviously it's just a story
that there's been so many variations. There is a Christmas song that was written,
(14:46):
oh called Mistletoe Bow. Interesting, and I'll add the audio and at
the end kind of end the episodeof Seid of Our Sound will probably end
it with the song so people canhear. But the intros superlong this song,
It was like five and a halfminutes. Intros really long, and
then it gets to the story andit's just like it just sounds like old
(15:09):
time, you know what I mean, Like you can just tell it's a
vintage song and the way they singand how like like low octave the singer's
voices, and it's just very depressing. It's not like fetti wap like Nicki
Mina. There's no wop in thesong, but the way, like when
I listened to the whole song,it reminded me of like Trans Siberian Orchestra
(15:33):
because they always do like old storiesand it's usually like a Victorian time and
there there's like a story with thesongs, and they've got a lot of
instrumental intros and there's like the differentlike voice octaves as they talk and sing.
Interesting, have you never been toa Trans Siberian Christmas weekly hobby?
(15:54):
You're such a smart ass. MaybeI should tell Draga show to take me
my dad and even go to thoseall right, blah blah, let's go.
I used to go with my mom. So interesting, that was the
thing we do well because they're usuallyhere the week of Thanksgiving like that Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday before and it's likea two night thing and they'll have
(16:15):
two shows like a earlier show that'sat like five o'clock, and then another
one at like eight o'clock. Sowe always got tickets and we'd go.
It was a lot of fun.And then the year of COVID they ended
up doing like a virtual but youcould watch okay, which was kind of
fun. But like I like thoseshows. I think it's really fun.
(16:37):
Like I love the way they tellthe stories, and I love like they
have dancers on stage, they havedifferent singers, they've got the guitarist and
violinis to like battle each other allthe time. I'll have to show your
video anyways. So like this Christmassong reminds me of it, and I
wouldn't be surprised if they ever toldthat story. But like it's even though
(17:00):
I know it's like more Victorian time, for whatever reason, it makes me
think of like old Viking stories.Okay, for whatever reason, like all
of the people in Transibory and Orchestra, like a lot of them they look
like Viking dudes, like they've gotthe long hair, and then they wear
like the uh like hell were likethese trench coats type of jackets and things.
(17:21):
I don't know, there's something aboutit that makes thinking it's fun well
as you're telling the story. Iknow. We talked about how there's many
movies based upon this, but onein particular popped in my head and it
also made me think of how competitiveI am? What do you're competitive?
I had no idea, but themovie Ready or Not? Uh huh.
(17:49):
I could see that super good.Loved it. And it's all about if
you haven't seen it by now,it's been out for a while. I
haven't seen it, so you're notgoing to watch it. Yeah, but
like whoever's listening, if you haven'tseen it by now sucks. It suck.
But it's all about a family whohas a tradition where on the night
(18:12):
of the wedding the bride, sothe family will kind of sit around a
table and the bride and groom willpull a card and it's like a game.
This family has. This is knownfor playing games, and that for
some reason, there's one particular gamewhere they look forward to this card being
(18:32):
pulled because they get to hunt downthe bride and try to kill her to
honor their ancestors. That does thathave Margot Robby in it? No,
she looks like Margot Robbie though.Oh it's the other actor like the doppelging.
They are. There's like three ofthem that are like close. But
they she ended up pulling the hideand seek card and at first she's like,
(18:55):
this is weird, Okay, I'llgo hide, and then she sees
all the weapons as they're trying tokill, and she just ends up destroying
all their asses, which reminded meof one time I was playing Hinde and
Seek and I've crawled into a chest. I may be claustrophobic, but I
aim to win Hide and Seek.I don't like being it. I will
(19:15):
never be the first person. Itry to be the last. You know
what I do. I say,I'm gonna sit by this fireplace with a
glass of wine and watch all youdumb asses. Nope, have fun.
And I especially love playing with kids, oh my god, because I will
make sure that they lose. Well. One thing I was going to tell
(19:37):
you that's interesting is Bramshill House isnow a police college. That's amazing,
uh huh, at least according toone of the articles. So I'll have
all the links in the show notes. I have them all saved in a
Google doc file because there was quitea few that I went down reading the
different variations, but this one wasrandomtimes dot com that has the bride and
(19:59):
seek or and legend origins of aghost bride. I love it kind of
stuff. So it talks about thedifferent but so but yeah saying it's now
a police college. But yeah,so there said that there's just another place
about seventy miles away that has,you know, stories of this identical apparition,
(20:22):
but so many places have it,but one thing, depending on the
source. They claim that the roomshe haunts is called the flirta Lee room
should uh huh. I love weirdconnections, and I was just like,
that's odd and that makes me smilein a weird way. But like the
images in this article, like lookhow creepily morbid these paintings are these oil
paintings? Would you say that? And I'm over here like how can I
(20:45):
get my hands on it? Soit's like it's very impressionist style to me,
where like you can tell what thescenery is, but there's no clear
definition. Hopefully I'm saying I wantso there's that one. Oh yeah,
here's one of the other places thatthey claim the ghost has been out,
like it's all over so Besides bramHill House, there's also Minister Lovelle Hall
(21:07):
in Oxfordshire, Marwell Hall in Hampshire, Bram's Hill House that's also in Hampshire,
Tiverton Castle in Devon, Exton Hall, Rutland, and it keeps going.
But this can also be called theMistletoe Bride, so that's another thing.
And that's where the Missiletoebow and thatsong came out in like eighteen thirty.
(21:29):
If I remember right, every timeyou say Brom's Hill, I keep
thinking you're gonna say Bromstoker. Mybrain has just been drag Hilla all day.
This one too, like this picturereminds me of the scary stories to
tell in the dark cover kid canyou down Law Die? And I dropped
that to me. That's become mywallpaper. I don't know, guys,
if we have any listeners, anyfans who are artists and wants to recreate
(21:52):
this photo for me, I wouldlove it. I don't know if you
can add pictures and show notes, but if you to, like I said
the random Dashtimes dot com article thatI'll have in the show notes, you'll
be able to see all the imagerylike this one is so like pretty Victorian.
But yeah, this one had likethe really fun pictures associated with it.
(22:17):
I will tell you it was interestinglooking up stories because there was a
different ghost story. It was aUS one I was trying to do.
But there's only two sites that claimthis house to have this ghost story.
Okay, but everywhere else I researchedthat shit don't exist. So that's the
one I'm gonna deep dive on becauseI want to see where the story came
(22:41):
from and if it's legitimate. BecauseI even went on to ancestry dot com
looking up this shit interesting, tryingto listen, trying to link it all
and make it as accurate as possible. You're talking to the right person when
it comes to that, I know. And I'm even gonna go home and
check the mini ghost story books Ihave and see if there's anything about a
(23:02):
bride. I wouldn't be because whenI was reading this one, Granted,
like I said, I know,I like, like you said, I
think there was a ghost Adventure episodethere. We'll have to look and see.
But in this story, I'm like, was there one in the scary
stories to tell in the dark one? Because like that artwork looks like it
(23:22):
look it does, and it's notlike one of those things where it's like,
oh, I recreated, like Iturned this into timber and looking like
that literally looks like it came fromthe book, not a recreation of the
artist designs like it looks like itcame from that book. So we'll have
to dig a little deeper. Andif you guys ended up loving talking about
(23:42):
creepy things and whatnot, let usknow, because we're decided on we decided
like we're actually doing it. Wehave contemplated to figure out if we decide
on doing another podcast that is morefocused around this more dark, creepy kinds
of things. With weddings. Yeah, just because there are TV shows of
(24:03):
like, you know, people killingtheir new brider groom. There's these haunted
stories of like some woman in herwedding dress haunting streets and castles and homes
searching for her groom. And it'sjust kind of fun because I love weddings,
but I'm also extremely morbid. Iam too, but it's okay.
(24:29):
And ghost stories. I love agood ghost stories. Oh me too.
Well, I mean that's obvious.I've got I'll bring it tomorrow. I
have a book that is three hundredand sixty five days of ghost stories,
and it's ghost stories that happened oneach day of the year. No way
you can go to a specific date, and you can. I want to
know what ghost stories associate with mybirthday and my anniversary with mine. I
(24:52):
can't remember. It might have beena lighthouse having to do with a lighthouse.
I can't remember. I'll have tobring up that's really fun. Yeah,
so well, thanks for you know, entertaining me in this hole.
I wanted to do something different.Girl. You don't even have to ask
me twice. You say haunted storyand I'm there. I know. I
was excited. Too bad we didn'tdo it the last two days when we've
(25:15):
had horrific thunderstorms and it's been likecreepy dark outside. Instead we've got we're
back to like ninety degree weather whenit's sunny. I know, if only
we recorded this at last night whenthere was that freak show thunderstorm that was
supposedly severely dangerous. It's fine.Yeah, I had to close the blind
so my kids could sleep, ButKira was terrified and she wanted me to
(25:38):
lay on the bottom bunk with her, and I was like you're fine,
like your brother and sister in theroom with you, and you're okay.
And she was just adamant that Ihad and she's like, I'm just super
scared. I'm like, what areyou scared of? Scared of the thunderstorm
and the lightning. And I waslike, honey, I was like,
thunderstorms is one of Mommy's favorite Likeit's so soothing to hear, like it
(26:00):
puts me to sleep. You're goingto be shocked at this. One last
night, when I was going tobed, I opened the blinds that are
across in my bed and I sleptwith my door open. I don't know
how I did it. I don'tknow how I did it either. You
never sleep with your door open, and part of it, I was creeped
out. But I loved watching thelightning. And when I woke up,
(26:22):
I was a little terrified. Ilove that. Well, so was my
youngest. She had thoughts of lightningstriking our house and killing us all.
Well. She was scared the othernight trying to sleep next to me as
well. Apparently, yeah, shelikes to throw out she's scared all the
time. And I'm like, whatdo you mean you're scared, Kara,
I'm not scary. It's just mybolt hole. It's just barking. My
(26:44):
husband calls that a barking spider.Oh, we do too, I tried
to teach. I tried to strickLeila into thinking that barking spiders were real,
and so then when everybody would fart, she got barking spider, and
I'd be like, damn right,I'm glad. We're not the only ones
who lie to our children's faces aboutthings. It's fine, Oh, I'm
(27:04):
all about that. Well everyone,Well, like I said, I will
put all of the links in theshow notes for this fun, morbid story,
and you can deep dive to kindof hear the different variations. I
did add a little bit of fillerin there, just because even in the
variations, it's just like they gotmarried, they played hide and seek,
she got lost, they found herdead body in a chest, and you're
(27:26):
like, well, that doesn't setthe scene at all for me, it
does. That's too quick. I'mlike, how am I going to tell
this story? And a matter offorty five seconds, granted you got adhd
and I understand, well, Iinstantly I pictured everything I was told,
But it could also have been thatI've known this story. Yeah, yeah,
so it's one that I'm like,it might be well known of me.
Not but where it had a creepyChristmas story or I mean Christmas song.
(27:49):
Excuse me. I was like, this might be a Christmas song.
The cast is like, yeah,I can get behind this. No,
I don't think that's all. SoI'm never gonna get you on board with
Mariah carry Christmas album. Is whatyou're telling me? Absolutely not. It's
the best, I don't think so. I thought it is my whole childhood.
(28:11):
Yeah. No, I'll get youto love it someday. But if
you ask the rest of my family, the rest of my family is also
like this. The only people thataren't are my mom and sistor. I
don't know what to tell you,so the men and me. So you
are a dude in the family.Yep, you're your dad's second son sometimes
first I know, first son.He wanted a boy, put me in
(28:36):
Utah Jas clothes. He got aboy, he got two, he got
two boys. So all right,Well, do you want to end anything
on this morbid story before we endwith the lovely Mistletoe Bow song? I
don't think so. I'm ready tohear this song. And if any of
you guys have more creepy ghost weddingstories, let us know. You can
(28:56):
reach all of us in their shownotes on all of our social media poporly,
as well as our email which iseverybody Pod at va dash bridle dot
com. I'm glad you're able tosay that thought you're gonna stroke out for
a second, I almost said vapod, but no, everybody Pod.
That makes sense. Yes, allright everyone, Well, thank you for
(29:19):
listening to our creepy wedding stories.I just remember that everybody, even a
dead body, is a bridle body. Talk to you soon. Bye.
I whistle tong in the custom wall, the holly bron shaw on the wall.
(29:44):
Ournos retainers fly them okay, keepinglike Christmas Collyday Burroun beheld with full
last pray. It's beautiful child, joy those fried. She with the bright
eyes is destined to me. Sothe coldly company for the whistle toe bar,
(30:15):
the whistle to bar
