Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, folks, it's been a wild ride. Bailable Froglin here,
I want to thank you for listening to Face Palm
America for the last three years, where we have spent
many an episode shaking our heads at the inanity of
American politics and culture. We've left, We've cried, and yes,
we probably facebalmed a few times together as well. But

(00:21):
today I want to share something new and dare I
say uplifting? I think these times call for something a
little different. And while I would never ask you to
avoid negative news, not that I think that's even possible.
I think that we on the left need something else
to supplement it so we don't just fall into a
bottomless abyss of doom. And that's why we're shifting gears

(00:44):
to bring you a new daily podcast, Good News for
Lefties and America. This new podcast is all about the
stories that will bring a smile to any progressive space,
news that lifts us up, inspires us, and keeps hope alive.
So stick around because you'll hear one of our first
Good News for Lefties episodes up next. And don't forget

(01:07):
to follow the link in the description to subscribe so
you won't miss your daily antidote to the very real
and very scary news out there. I think you're gonna
need it in the very near future. Thank you, Face
Palm family, and we'll see you on the sunny side
of the news. Good News for Lefties and America. Hello,

(01:36):
and welcome to Good News for Lefties. This is your host,
Baiobel Frocklin, here to bring you all the best stories
that'll have you feeling hopeful and inspired in the face
of your sense of impending doom. You'll hear plenty of downbeat,
if important political news for progressives elsewhere. This is a
place for the positive. So pour yourself a great big

(01:58):
cup of WOOO, because we're going to look at some
upbeat headlines. All right. First up, democracy, I know we've
heard that word a lot lately, but today it's actually
working in our favor. We're talking about VET the Vote,
a powerhouse initiative that's brought over one hundred and sixty
three thousand veterans and military family members into election pollwork.

(02:23):
Here's the deal. Every election, the US needs about one
million poll workers, and the task has been getting trickier
each year as seniors retire from this civic duty. That's
where our friends at VET the Vote come in teaming
up with organizations like the NFL, NBA, and even NASCAR
to recruit veterans to fill the gap. These one hundred

(02:44):
and sixty three thousand veteran poll workers, coming from all
corners of the country, have stepped up with a dedication
to rules and fair play, ensuring that every vote counts.
In fact, they're covering about eighty percent of counties in
the United States. Eighty percent. Now, that is an incredible
way to serve one's country in time of need. Up. Next,

(03:09):
we've got a story about one hospital that is giving
power to the people. Literally. Picture this Boston Medical center,
faced with patients who couldn't afford the basic electricity to
run essential medical equipment, decided to say enough is enough
and turned to the sun to help their patients. Yes,

(03:29):
the hospital launched a pilot program called the Clean Power Prescription,
where they installed over five hundred solar panels on the
hospital's roof to power not only their own buildings, but
also to keep the lights on for patients in need.
Here's how it works. Patients get a credit on their
utility bills about fifty dollars a month, which could be

(03:51):
a real lifesaver, especially for those with chronic conditions requiring
constant electricity for things like oxygen machines, refrigerated meds, or
wheelchair charging. Not only does this approach lower emissions, but
it could be a game changer for low and moderate
income families struggling to keep up with high energy costs.

(04:12):
Now that's a healthcare innovation. We can all root for
one that actually lowers costs instead of increasing them. All right, folks,
it's time to pay the bills ourselves, so don't go anywhere.
We've got some good news about peace and politics coming
up next. This is good news for lefties. And we'll
be right back after a word from our sponsors, and

(04:36):
we're back. Let's dive right into our next story. This
one's about a certain someone with a plan for peace. Yes,
I'm talking about Vice President Kamala Harris and her promise
to end the ongoing war in Gaza if elected president.
She made this pledge at her final rally in Michigan,
where she told a packed crowd at Michigan State University

(04:57):
that she do everything in her power to put a
stop the war in Gaza, bring hostages home, and make
sure both Israelis and Palestinians can live with dignity and security.
I think most of us on the left want to
see more than words from Harris on this topic. But
it seems like the message that the destruction of Gaza
has to end is finally beginning to get through now. Well,

(05:20):
it's true that in the February presidential primary, over one
hundred thousand voters cast ballots for uncommitted in the Democratic Party,
with many protesting Joe Biden's support of Israel. M Gage,
a prominent Muslim American advocacy group, and many Muslim leaders
are standing behind the Harris campaign. On campuses like Michigan State,

(05:40):
students have been vocal about wanting change in US foreign policy,
and it looks like Kamala may be listening. Could this
be the daught of a more peaceful US approach to
the Middle East? Only time will tell, but I'll tell
you one thing. We have to keep working to make
it happen. And there you have it, my friends, from
veterans at the polls, to solar powered healthcare, to a

(06:02):
promise of peace in the Middle East, or looks maybe
just a little brighter today. It's been a packed episode,
but that's the way we like it here on Good
News for Lefties. Thanks for tuning in, and remember, whether
it's big wins or little steps, there's always something good
for lefties out there. I'm be a Wolf Rocklin weird name.

(06:22):
Good news for Lefties and America.
