Speaker 1 (00:00):
And we're back fan Pole Sports, True tech Sports podcast
for the true tech sports fans Again.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I'm your host, Ronnie.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Langford, back at it, this time on the road, traveling
down Highway eighty seven South, heading home after a great
weekend with the family and friends in the car with.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
My middle child, technically the third of.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
The original Big three in my life, my son Sean Sean.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Welcome to the program.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Oh sir, we do not say howdy on this program. Okay,
let's let's get that straightened out right now. Are I
deal with enough of that crap in my life already?
I don't need you to add to it. Okay, Hey, I.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Just wanted to get your thoughts, man. I know, I
know a lot.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Of the season has flown by and slow down.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
There's two cops right there, and uh and uh, you're
you've been working a.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Lot the last few weeks, So I just wanted to
get your thoughts on the Red River rivalry as the
Texas Longhorns once again put a whooping out on the
uh Oklahoma Sooners yesterday in the Cotton Bowl. What are
your thoughts on the longhorns big win coming out of Dallas.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
I was surprised, but not surprised because the defense does
hold true the end of theod We have a d
good defense. Very happy with the with the game arch had,
you know Ti Trey Wisner. Yes, Weisner showed up a
little bit. Good to see that go off again.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
I was.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Don't tell my boss, but I was highly unproductive yesterday
between the hours of two thirty and six. So yes,
very happy with the result. Surprised, but again not surprised.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
If your boss is listening, just you know, he's kidding,
he's kidding, he was. He was very productive between two
thirty and six yesterday afternoon. You know, it's always a
big game, man, obviously one of the biggest games on
the schedule, not only for Texas in Oklahoma, but for
college football itself. Your thoughts, as you know, stuff started
(02:22):
coming out yesterday after the game that Oklahoma hasn't scored
a touchdown in three out of the last four games
that they've played. So to put that in perspective, they
lost forty nine zero, then they won I believe it
was thirty eight or thirty four to twenty eight or
something like that. Then they lose. Last year they only
(02:49):
scored three points. This year, they only scored six points.
I mean, I understand you're saying that the Longhorns have
a great defense and the they stayed true to form,
But what are your thoughts on on that aspect of it?
Of what many thought at one time a high power
in Oklahoma de offense suddenly can't get out of their
(03:09):
own way and get points on the board. Your thoughts
on how that played out and them only having nine
points total in those three games.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
I mean, there's not much more to say than the defense, really,
the defense that Texas has. Also the last year, I
know they didn't have a true quarterback playing. If I
remember correctly, I think he got injured and they were
like I think they were down like the wide receiver
to play quarterback.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
I don't remember exactly, But I mean, as a Texas fan,
you'd love to see it. As a Texas fan, you
love to see a love will lose every single year
to us, and it feels like that the momentum is
shifting over to us. But I don't I don't know
(04:00):
about the another three points. I didn't know. I didn't
know that they have was scored a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
The last three games, three out of the last four.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Yeah, the other three out of the last four. That's
pretty crazy.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
And I guess, I guess if you're an Oklahoma fan,
it's gotten better because it was forty nine zero that
it was you know, thirty to three last year, and
now it's twenty three to six, So I guess it's
getting better. But you look at it from that point,
you know, they're they're going upwards in the in the scoring.
But yeah, I mean, you know, it's just it's it's
a weird thing. I know Texas struggled for years with Oklahoma,
(04:34):
especially there in the early to mid two thousands, you know,
but I don't remember them having stretches like this where
you know, they weren't scoring, you know, at least seventeen
to twenty points in that game. I know there was
a few blowouts in between, but I mean, my gosh,
you couldn't even get a touchdown. And you're right, Oklahoma
(04:58):
had a bad quarterback issue last year. They bring in
this this guy from the transfer portal, Matier, and yes,
I understand that he was hurt at some point. I
think he had surgery on his thumb.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
And people are gonna say, people are gonna.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Say that that was that was part of the reason
that he didn't play well, and and this and the other.
He came out and said that he was fine physically,
the thumb tested fine. Uh, it was just he couldn't
find a rhythm. He couldn't get comfortable. The Texas defense,
you know, was really in his face for the majority
of that game outside of the first drive. Honestly, I mean,
(05:39):
he didn't do anything after that. They they figured him out,
They clamped him down. As Cody and I were talking
yesterday watching that game, you know, Cody even said, you
gotta look back at this guy's history. He struggled at
Washington State when he played against some better and elite
teams and defenses that you know, could get after the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
And that's what he faced here.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
He faced that type of pressure from a very good
Texas defense.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
He talked about Arch a little bit.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Obviously, it's well documented his struggles this season. He's had
moments where he looked lost, he looked misguided. Yesterday, he
looked much more comfortable. Your thoughts on where he could
go from here, you know, do you feel like he
can build off of this when the stats weren't eye popping,
(06:32):
You know, he only threw fo one hundred and sixty
six yards and a touchdown. But I mean, do you
think that a game like this and that high pressure
stakes of a game and him playing that well, do
you think this will help springboard him into a better
second half of the season and get him more comfortable
with being the starting quarterback at the University of Texas.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
I think so.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
I was. I was reading a whole bunch of stuff
coming up to the game this week.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
And.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Sarka was just wanting to to just have fun. He's like,
forget the pressure, and the pressure is always gonna be there. One,
your last name is what it is, and two you're
playing for the University of Texas flagship program for football,
so the pressure is gonna be there no matter your
last name. And I think he just needs to have fun.
(07:22):
I feel I feel like yesterday, I mean, you saw him,
you know, after a big play, he was just being himself,
you know, and jumping a silly was with the teamates
that this big celebration. I think, yes, he was just
having fun. And I think that's what He's realized that
the pressure is always gonna be there. Just just do
what you do and and just have fun. With your friends,
(07:44):
you know, as silly as it sounds, but yeah, I
think I think this is gonna springboard him and to
the more more success they're at the position. And I
just really.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Didn't looking forward to it, you know, And I think,
you know, he was beaten down so much. Obviously, he
didn't play well against Ohio State. He struggled last week
against Florida, which, by the way, Florida, thanks for letting
me down and not freaking taking care of business against
A and M. But you know, struggled in that environment,
(08:27):
struggled on that field. Yesterday, he looked much more calm,
much more in tune with what was happening, what was
going on. And I think the offensive line played better yesterday.
They weren't great by any stretch. There were still way
too many times where the defense was in Arch's lap,
but they were able to open some holes. And you
(08:50):
said it there at the beginning, you know, Weisner showed up.
Weisner got after it, had a big game yesterday, ninety
four yards.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
I want to say, he had a.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Couple of receptions for about forty forty five yards, you know,
So I think that did help a lot. And you know,
we talked about it earlier. It doesn't matter what level
of play you're doing football. If you can't protect your
quarterback and you can't run the ball, you're not gonna
(09:20):
have much success. And that's exactly what happened with Texas
in some of these games that they struggled in this year.
They can't run the ball, they couldn't protect Arch, and
the offense has struggled. When he's had time to move
in the pocket, when he's had time to be able
to get things out of the ball out of his hand,
it's helped him tremendously and it's made a big difference.
(09:42):
So hopefully start this week will get them ready to go,
have them ready to get after it on Sunday, sorry
on Saturday, and take care of business.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Do you know who they play this next week?
Speaker 4 (09:54):
I know we'll.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Have to look that up and see.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
But I mean, even though I know you didn't spend
a lot of time watching the game, doesn't it always
feel good knowing that the Longhorns beat Oklahoma. The sky's
a little bluer, the birds chirp a little louder, right,
the breeze feels a little bit better.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Right, Like the world all there's a lot.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Of good in the world when those chumps from north
of the Red River get punked the way that they.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Have these last two years.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
And I will say this, the thing that makes me
the happiest is the fact that this coach is who
they beat and Brent Vinnables was a pain in mac
Brown's ass for a long time when he was helping
Bob Stoops win this rivalry.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
And the fact that Texas.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Has beaten him his teams three out of the last
four years and have done it in such convincing fashions
in each game, that makes.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Me feel really good because that just, you know, like
I said, he was a pain in the ass when
he was the DC. And you know they I mean
they did.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
They came in with much value who they did, have
the stats, so to speak, to back up what people
were saying about them. But at the end of the day, man,
they got their asses handed to them. They got punked. Uh,
and in such a way that I'm happy. I know
you're happy. There's a lot of Longhorn fans happy out there,
(11:25):
and it's gonna make it's gonna make for a good,
good start to the week. As you know, Sunday comes
to an end here in a few hours and we
get ready for Mondays.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
So you got anything else before we wrap this up?
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Welcome the well, you know what, that's really all that
needs to be said because that's exactly what happened yesterday.
So uh, you know, anytime you want to come on,
you're more than welcome. So you just let me know
when you're want to give your two cents on a
subject and.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
We can we can hit the record.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
But so Fan poll Sports, true tech sports podcast for
the true tech sports fan.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
It's getting this Bien Ronnie, that's Sean and we're out.
Peace and we're back.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Fan Polled Sports a true tech sports podcast for the
true tech sports fan. Once again, I'm your host, Ronnie Langford,
back at it this wonderful evening. As the sun is
settling in the sky is filling up with the stars
because as you know, the stars at bright, the stars
at night are big and bright deep in the heart
of Texas. No bigger subject in the state of Texas
(12:35):
than football, specifically college football, as the A and m
Aggie's the Fighting Texas Aggies, i believe now are number
four in the nation. Then you also have Texas Tech
that is number seven. And of course my Longhorns got
(12:57):
back in the top twenty five at number twenty one
this week back at it of course with my main man,
the Double Nickel himself, the college football guru, if you will,
Mark Ramiris, welcome back to the program, my friend.
Speaker 5 (13:12):
Hell of Glow two and oh yes, and it's Aggie football,
It's Texas tech Raider football, it's Texas Longhorns being oh
you football time again.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Yeah, man, it's been a it's a great It was
a great weekend for the state of Texas all the
way around. The top programs and even some of the
lower tier programs got some big wins this weekend. You know,
obviously for me, Big one in Dallas, Cotton Bowl, State Fair,
Big text looking over everything and everybody, corny dogs, all
(13:45):
kinds of foolishness happening there. The split right down the middle,
fifty to fifty one side Ou one side Texas. There's
to me, there's no greater atmosphere than that, right, Having
the two biggest ride in a stadium like that, split
the way that it is, I think that's kind of
an awesome thing to see.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
It would be an awesome thing to experience.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Shout out to my son who was fortunate enough to
get a ticket to the game on Saturday. His best
friend Gabby and her husband gifted him a birthday gift early,
so he got to experience Texas OU first hand for
the first time.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
And he said it was it was unbelievable. He was
he totally enjoyed it. He's not a big not a
big football guy. Uh, but he said that that was
that was awesome. That was a great experience, and of
course Texas getting the win made it that much better.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
But yeah, the Longhorns dominated dude, close game early on
six to three. Going into halftime, Texas came out, took
control of that game, dominated Ou up front, the defensive
line came to life.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Put put John Mattier, the much ballyhooed OU quarterback, in
a box, locked that box, threw it in another box,
locked that box, through it in another box, locked that
box through that bitch in a river, and watched it
float down back up to Oklahoma. Because that dude could
not do nothing against that Longhorn defense. The running game
(15:10):
for the Longhorns got going. Weisner looked awesome, had some
big explosive plays and of course, like I told you
right before we started.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
I was about to call him Peyton arch Manning.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Arch Manning really looked great at times on Saturday. Didn't
do anything great, right, Like, he wasn't great, but he
was very much more relaxed. He looked like he was
having a lot of fun, and he got after it
a couple of times on Saturday. Of course, the moment,
the moment of the weekend for me and a lot
of Texas fans.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
He gets that.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Big twenty plus yard run there to seal the games,
slides down to run the clock down, and as he
gets back up and walks back to the huddle, he's
waving at the crowd as the ou crowd started to
fill funnel their way out of.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
The Cotton Bowl.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
So, you know, I know, I know, I got some
shit from some friends because he I posted that video
of him waving and I was like, that's my quarterback,
and I got a lot of shit from that.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
But I don't care. I don't care.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
That's my quarterback. I don't care. So yeah, man, Texas
on the right side of the win column this week.
Big win for them, knocking off the number six team
in the country at the time. Uh So, still gives
them a shot. I know it still seems slim compared
to what it was a few weeks ago, but still
gives them a shot at doing something and getting into
(16:33):
the playoff.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
The dirty doesn't there at the end of the year.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
You got any thoughts on that Texas OU game before
we move on to the next one.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
Yeah, I know you said that he got a chance
to go to the game. What about you? Have you
ever been to that game or have you ever been?
Speaker 1 (16:47):
No, We've I've been. I've been up there. I've been
up there a couple of times for that weekend. And
that in itself is crazy enough as it is. And
we had hoped to go in twenty twenty, like we'd
already kind of like figured out what we were going
to do, Me, Belinda, Cody, we'd already kind of figured
(17:10):
out what we're gonna do, how we're gonna do it.
And then COVID happened, and that that changed a lot
of plans for a lot of people obviously. So No,
it was funny because when I was talking, when I
was talking to Ronald the other day, He's like, Dad,
he goes, I've never screamed like that at a football game.
Before you know, he goes it was so awesome. He's like,
(17:31):
I channeled my inner you, and I was like, yeah,
I could only imagine. So yeah, definitely definitely one of
those things. It's still on my bucket list, dude, other
than maybe like Texas playing for the National championship. That
maybe the only other thing that's on my bucket list
that I still want to.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Get to as well, like in the stadium.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
But if there's one game, if there's one game on
my bucket list that I want to see, it's it's
that game, you.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Know, And I don't I don't care what the records are.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
I just want to be in that arena, in that atmosphere,
in that stadium when that game goes.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Down, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
So, uh yeah, never seen it, never seen.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
It like that, but yeah, could you could you see yourself?
Speaker 5 (18:14):
You know where they split right down the middle, bro,
sitting next to some food.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
I'm ready.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
I think I could do that, dude.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
I think I think I could.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
I think I think I could as long as I'm
not liquored up and having nobody talking ship for me,
you know, and then making me think that I'm bigger
and better than I really am, you know, I mean
as much as I as much as I joke about it,
you know, Toby Keith being a being a sooner and
stuff and whatever. I mean, But there is a song,
(18:49):
you know, as good as I once was. But there's
no need for me to test that theory, so to speak.
But uh, I mean, yeah, dude, I mean yes, in theory,
I could see myself sitting on one side of the
fifty and then one of them other people sitting on
the other side of the fifty, and we going back
and forth talking shit. Yeah, I can see that. But
(19:09):
depending on how much shit you're talking and what you're saying,
because you know, dude, if I'm just talking shit and
having a good time, I'm gonna talk shit. But if
you want to make it personal, I can make it personal.
It's not a problem, you know what I mean. I
can I can flip that switch. I can flip that switch.
I can talk about his mobile home, you know. I
can talk about his girlfriend that he's making out with.
(19:30):
It's probably his cousin. I mean, it's not a problem.
I can do that.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
So yeah, I.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Mean it's it would be tough. It would be tough, bro,
But I think I think I might be able to
do it. Oh man, Yeah, that would mean dude.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
In all the years that I've seen that that kind
of split, you know, there's some spots where there's like
a staircase right between them, right yeah, and then there's
some spots where they're like right on top of each other.
I always thought it's some point, Dude. Every year, I
always think they're gonna put a fence, or they're gonna
put a wall, or they're gonna just something.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
Bro.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
I don't know, because to me that that's just you're
just an accident.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
Waiting to happen.
Speaker 5 (20:13):
And I guess that's why they have the game so early, right.
They don't want that to be a night game, because
you have a night game, Bro, you got people liquored up,
you got them hype for the game already. And here's
the thing too, man, I mean there's it's just it's
too big of a game. It's too big of a
game to not talk shit. It's gonna happen, Bro, It's
(20:33):
gonna be there, and it's gonna be personal, because it
always is every year, no matter who it is, I
mean who, no matter of those two teams playing, once
they play each other. It's a big fucking deal. It's
not just like, oh, it's just this versus that. No,
it's always a big deal. As much as getting back
to the game, I will say this, man, Yes, the
(20:54):
struggles were there at the beginning. I was not seeing
a lot of push. I was not seeing the ur
just not connecting, man, not clicking, not running on all cylinders.
Speaker 4 (21:06):
But he did have that moment, Bro, that moment.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
That I took when I told you Johnny football against SMU.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
He just it clicked.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
Bro, They clicked for him and he could do no wrong,
even with that kind of sideways pac that he does.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
But he started to see the field.
Speaker 5 (21:24):
I think he started to find his spots and then
not only find his spots to pass, but then he
found his spots to run the ball when he needed to,
and got he sat down when he needed to. I'm like, Okay,
this fucker has control of this game. And once it
got going, it was like a runaway train. Bro, it
was a runaway train. I said, thank god, man, I'm
(21:44):
hoping that because I can't stand on you as well,
you know, and the fact that they were a ranked team,
I mean a highly ranked team and Texas just just
took snatch it from him.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Bro.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
That was a game that was not just you needed.
You wanted it obviously, but you needed that game to
be you know, continue on and getting closer and closer
to that Dirty dozen we always talked about. But that
was a pivotal, gotta win, must have game. Not only
it was it that, but it's it's the Red River rivalry.
Speaker 4 (22:16):
It's for that fucking gold hat.
Speaker 5 (22:18):
And not only did Texas step up and rise to dacation, man,
they they made people take notice. Oh okay, now this
kid is kind of Arch is getting his legs under him.
You know, he's got a sea legs under him now,
and he's probably figuring this shit out. And that's what
I saw. I saw that Arch Manning become a football player,
(22:39):
not just the quarterback of the team, but he was jelling, man,
he was clicking.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
The run game got going and.
Speaker 5 (22:46):
It was just like I said, it was that rolling, rolling, rolling,
that train getting slowly started, man, but once it got going, man,
you couldn't stop it.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
And it was fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Lata.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
I want to say, you know, you talked about, you know,
maybe one year that they'll they'll put up a fence
or a wall or whatever.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
You know, I think part of that is how we
grew up, dude. You know, we we grew up.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
Going to games at Alamo Stadium, and you know, you
had to keep you had to keep certain fan bases
away from each other. Obviously, one of the greatest high
school football rivalries there was, you know, going up until about,
you know, fifteen years ago, was was teching Lanear the
Chili Bowl, the annual grudge match at the end of
the season, and there's a fence and a gate and
(23:28):
a wall separating the two sides, the home side from
the visitor side. And you know, so I think, I think,
you know, you kind of have those types of things,
and you think, well, that's just normal when you have
two heated rivals.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
And then you see the stadium there at.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
The Cotton Bowl and they don't have that, and you're like,
oh man, that's that's a much bigger stage.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
That's that's a much rowdier crowd.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
And you know, they may want to consider that, But
I've never heard of any kind of like real foolishness.
I mean, I'm not saying that there's not fights, because
I'm sure there are, but I don't know that I've
ever really heard of any kind of foolishness. And one
of the other reasons why I don't think they have
that game at night is I don't know how well
you know Dallas, but where the Cotton Bowl is located,
(24:08):
it's probably not the.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Best neighborhood in Dallas.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
So I could see why they wouldn't want to have
that game at night because there are you go in
either direction around the State Fairgrounds and outside of the
Cotton Bowl there there's some sketchy area around that place, dude,
let me tell you. So, I think part of it
is that it is just the fact that they also
know the crowd would be huge, because you know that
(24:33):
crowd on Saturday is already big enough, and then you've
got sixty seventy eighty thousand people going to the game,
plus the people at the fair. I mean, they would
be a nightmare, I'm sure if they had that at night.
So but it's still a fun game, dude. Again, I'm
excited the Longhorns won. It gives them a chance to
stay in the thick of things and we'll see.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
How it goes. Let's talk about your aggies, man.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
You know, Florida kept it interesting there for a little bit,
kept the game close there until probably the late third
quarter into the fourth quarter. Uh. And then you know
Marcel Reid and and uh you know the wide receiver. Uh,
you know, they just they they they took care of business, dude.
And I mean they looked really good. The defense looked
(25:17):
really solid at times. I do know that Moss is
hurt and he's gonna be out several weeks, so that
running game may look different now that their workhorse is gonna.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
Be out for a few weeks.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
Uh, your thoughts on the game and what you saw
on Saturday night?
Speaker 5 (25:35):
Man, oh man, I was so fucking glad they finally
got this, this team's number, you know, the last past
few years. I can remember when the A and M
had gone to the Florida, they had gone to the
swamp and they just got their asses handed to him
a few years back.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
I'm sure you remember that game.
Speaker 5 (25:55):
But Elko man, he and and the and the the
twelfth man, I mean, just you know, nothing, nothing seems
nothing's better.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
Than home cooking. Man. The defense was flying.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
I mean, from what I can remember, the beginning of
the game, I think Marcel had thrown that long pass
just to kind of.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
You know, open up the game.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
And I got to give OC lot of credit for
letting Marcel be himself and just slinging it down there, man,
taking chances with those receivers that they got, and it's
paying off man, And you know they I think they
kicked it off to him.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
He threw that long pass.
Speaker 5 (26:30):
I think the very next play, I think it was
scoring like literally twenty.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Seconds or thirty seconds.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
And you know, if you were to tell me that, hey,
A and M's going to do this at the beginning
of the game, you know, I mean, I would called
you a liar. But man, they just started getting their
their footing. They're starting to get their footing on defense,
they're starting to clamp down on the run game.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
Of whoever they're playing.
Speaker 5 (26:53):
And also Marcel ree, man, he's he is just he's
truly truly on the top contenders. I think now for
that Heisman, now will he get it? I don't know,
because he needs He probably just needs to check a
few more boxes in those categories for you to get
something like that. But dude, you're six and oh, I
(27:16):
mean you're six and oh, And I didn't even predict that.
I predicted them losing the Notre Dame and then you know,
coin flip with with Florida and they just dominated that team.
And I think they could have scored a lot more
there at the end because a lot of it was just, hey,
we're gonna just shut it down. We're not gonna We're
not gonna, you know, take any chances. And they just
(27:38):
started running the ball on those last few series because
you know, they just had.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
To run the clock out.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
And I think that was smart on Elko side because
he didn't try and I mean, it looks better that
you're not trying to run up the game, run up
the score. But at the same time, it does you
a disservice because you know, you could be scoring more
points and you can make your team look better for
those rankings that you want. But man, at the end
of the day, man, it was just NonStop. You know,
the Aggies were never out of it. They just you know,
(28:06):
we're battling. At the beginning, they took the lead and
I think they taught the Gators tied it, and then
I think they just didn't look back from there, you know,
they just the second half was just there's it was
tail of two halves.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
You know, there was the.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
Clashing happened in the first half with both teams trying
to establish what they wanted. But once the Aggies, you know,
once the second half started, it was it was no
doubt in my mind, because they were just all.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
Over the quarterback.
Speaker 5 (28:32):
They were starting to ship down that run game, the
turnovers that were there, and then that turnover there kind
of in the fourth quarter, I think it was like
four minutes to go. Uh to me, sealed it. I said, okay,
there's still four more minutes, but you know they're there.
I mean, that was the end of it. I think
right there that was Okay, that's the nail. That's one
of the big nails. And that's all they need to
(28:53):
do is just run out this clock and then you know,
victory formation. And I mean, I can't wait for the
next game. I think Arkansas is I don't know, man,
I don't think they're the team that they've been in
the past. And that spoiler and you know, you and
I have had this conversation, right, we always think and
Arkansas always seems to fuck it up for somebody, Right,
I don't think they have the team or the talent
(29:14):
to do that this year and but again I'm not
saying that they're just gonna lay.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
Down and you know whatever.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
It is a game on their turf, and I can't
wait to see what happens. Man, I'm very excited for
this next game. Obviously, this next last game was was
a big win. I think the Notre Dame game was
a bigger win. And just whatever Elkos but buttons, you know, buttons,
He's pushing, it's working. His philosophy, his system is just
(29:39):
starting to come to fruition with all his uh, his
his receivers that he that he that he picked up
on the portal, uh with with Barcel Reid running running
the team literally like just he's starting to grasp that
he's that true number one quarterback of that team. And
you know, knock on wood, that he stays healthy and
if he can just continue what he's doing, there's gonna
(30:01):
be a strong, strong chance man that that. Obviously, I
think they're gonna make the playoffs. I mean, I don't
think there's a doubt. But you, like you said in
the past, you know, it's not how you start, it's
how you finish. It's what you do against the teams
that are are relevant. And you know, there's a few
more you know, strong teams there at the end. Obviously
Texas that game. All eyes are going to be on
(30:22):
that and I'm so anxious for that game. I can't
wait to see what Marcel Reed can do. I can't
wait to see what the receivers can do. Hopefully Moss
is back. And I know it's a long, long, long
ways off, but I know you and I have marked
our calendars. Man, We're gonna have that Thanksgiving turkey leg
We're gonna have those leftovers. We're gonna avoid the black Fridays.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
We're just gonna be there for that game, man, And
I can't wait. Man.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
Again, I cannot say enough about the Aggie's being six
and oher and the cool thing was it's it was
in front of the home crowd as well.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Yeah, it'll be a good thing, man, And you know,
we'll we'll see how this thing plays out. Obviously has
a lot of momentum. Reid has played well. Like you said,
he's probably in the Heisman discussion. I don't know that
he'll win it, but he should be in the discussion.
He's played very well. He's led his team to an
undefeated season to this point. So it'll be interesting to
(31:14):
see where he falls in that discussion. But Cody said
it the other day. Man, he's not all the way
in just yet, because he knows. This is where things
seem to get slippery for A and M historically. This
is where, like, you know, they'll have a big win
(31:37):
like they did on Saturday, and something just won't go
right somewhere and then all of a sudden, questions start
to happen. You know, possibly a freak injury happens, and
then all of a sudden something one thing leads to
another and you know they're they're on a bit of
a downward slide and stuff. I hope that doesn't happen, man,
I would love to see A and M on the
big stage and see what they could do, you know,
(32:00):
if they have the opportunity to make it to the
Dirty Dozen, possibly pay for the Big or the SEC Championship,
you know first.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
So we'll see.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
There's still a lot of football to be played. Saturday
will be big. It's not going to be easy going
into Arkansas, even though Arkansas is not the team that
a lot of people thought they might be, and you're right,
they probably don't have.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
The same level of talent as A and M.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
But it's still one of those games, dude, that it
always seems to be a shootout. It always seems to
be back and forth. They never roll over. And this
is the first game on campus in Fayetteville in probably
ten years, because this game for at least a decade
has been played at Jerry World, right, you know. And
(32:48):
then next year, next year, obviously it goes to Kyle Field.
So there's probably going to be a lot of emotion.
There's probably going to be a lot of a lot
of things going on. The good thing is it's a
two game, so you know, them them them fools up
there in the in the Ozarks won't be so liquored up.
(33:08):
But it's it's still gonna be a battle.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Man.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
It's gonna be tough. It's not gonna be easy. Uh,
But I still think A and M is gonna pull
that out. Hey man, the other big program in the
state has got all the way up now to number seven.
I'm still not a fan. I still don't like them,
but I gotta give them credit. The Red Raiders, Dude,
they're the number seven team in the nation right now,
(33:31):
and you know they they just punked a pretty talented
but not great Kansas team. You know, beat them pretty
decisively they're in Lubbock. The talk coming out of that
game was more about the tortillas that were being thrown
on the field and the fines and the penalties, and
you know, it's it's it's a it's a whole thing.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
It's a whole thing. Uh.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
You know that that's happening with that. But you know,
when you look at when you look at Texas Tech,
you know they seem to be a pretty well rounded team.
Good quarterback play, strong running game, defense is really solid.
I don't know if you've got to see any of
their games at all this year, maybe the Utah game.
(34:15):
I think I have been your thoughts, your thoughts on
the Red Raiders, and I thought this next game was
going to be there. They're one of their toughest on
the schedule, having to go to Arizona State, Arizona State
being the defending Big Twelve champions. Arizona State hasn't quite
lived up to the hype. So I don't know what
(34:35):
this game is going to be on Saturday just yet.
But your thoughts on Texas Tech man and how they've
looked so far this season and where they're headed.
Speaker 5 (34:44):
Okay, the first thing I want to mention is that
damn run game dude.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Dicky, right, is it, Dickie?
Speaker 2 (34:52):
Yeah? I think so.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
Lynn Dickey.
Speaker 5 (34:55):
Man, that guy is like Scatibo kind of reincardinated man.
And he's or scataboo whatever he Dude, he will bulldog you,
he will truck you.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
He's a hard ass.
Speaker 5 (35:09):
Man to bring down the quarterback as well. Man, he's
They've they've got this kind of RPO thing going. And
you know, when you and I think of Texas Tech
and right, and don't tell me that this isn't true
in your mind. Whenever you think Texas Tech, what do
you think of you know, you think of man then
just going out there slinging the ball scoring a shit
ton of points, right, That is not what I see
(35:31):
when I watch this team. This team is very balanced
on both sides of the ball. The defense man just
kind of also, you know, made the day as well,
from what I've seen in the last two or three
games that I've been kind of not just closely watching,
but you know, just kind of getting information and seeing,
you know, kind of in game real time how this
(35:52):
team operates.
Speaker 4 (35:54):
And dude, are. They are a force to be reckoning with.
Speaker 5 (35:58):
I mean, I think they're the best team in the.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
Big twelve, and no doubt, obviously they're undefeated. But that's
no easy task, you know, you you uh.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
You're undefeated, and you're right, Kansas, I mean, what are
they known for, bro, I mean, they're known for what basketball?
Speaker 2 (36:13):
You know?
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Yeah, and but but.
Speaker 5 (36:16):
That doesn't that doesn't mean that that Texas Tech just said, Hey,
we're gonna come out.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
Here, We're gonna whoop you.
Speaker 5 (36:22):
I think it was eighteen to zero in the first quarter.
Then then the uh, the Jayhawks made a game of it.
Right before half, I think they got seventeen and then
it was seventeen something right at half, and I thought, okay,
let's just see what what Texas Tech is made of.
And dude, they went into halftime and came back out
(36:43):
and the defense was just flying everywhere.
Speaker 4 (36:45):
And that's an That's another thing.
Speaker 5 (36:47):
I got to check the rankings on excuse me where
their defense is at, because man, they make turnovers, they
get sacks, they they they they make tackles.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
On the running back behind the line scrimmage.
Speaker 5 (37:01):
I mean, it's just constant just winning at the line
on both sides because that offensive line open ups whole
opens up holes. And I mean Dicky is gone, bro,
He's not just getting five, three or four yards, you know,
and then you know, no, he's like a cloud of dust.
Speaker 4 (37:16):
Man. He's gone, and he's got speed and power.
Speaker 5 (37:19):
I mean, you cannot you cannot argue that that that's
not not there. And and they're a fun team to
watch because to me, the remind me of like the
old you know, I guess the old.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
Southwest Conference or something like that. Just balanced football teams.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
You know, man, a quarterback that you know, throws what
he needs to a running back that you're running back
first type offense, and you're making the plays, you're moving
the chains, you're getting points, and I mean it was
just an ass whipping. It got kind of boring to
watch because the defense was just flying everywhere.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
But it's a good thing to have.
Speaker 5 (37:55):
I think in the state of Texas where you got
thretty strong relevant you know, college football teams, they got
a chance to get into the mix and get into
that duty doesn't. And I'm crossing my fingers and I
hope that it happens.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Yeah, man, you know again, I still have hope that
we can get three teams in the playoff. I think
that would be exciting for the state. I think it
would speak volumes for the state of Texas if we
could get three teams. Obviously, inn M and Tech look
like they're much better positions to get there than Texas
right now. But it'll be interesting, dude. And you're right, dude,
(38:28):
Texas Tech has played unbelievable. You know, they are probably
one of the more well rounded teams in the nation.
And I mean, let's be honest, dude, the Big twelve
hasn't been as strong as people thought it might be
to hope in the season.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
But that doesn't mean that they're weak either.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
You know, they did beat a very good Utah team
on the road in Utah, you know, a few weeks
ago to Star Conference play. But at the end of
the day, man, they're not They're not a fluke. You know,
this team's for real and they you got to be ready.
You got to be ready to play them because they're
gonna come for you one way or another, dude. Real quick, Utsa,
(39:12):
I mean blew the doors off of Rice sixty one
to ten of most points by a UTSA team. They
broke all kinds of records. This past Saturday. It was
a great win. They needed to feel good again, get
on the winning side. I don't know, what is there
a record right now? You know us? Are they three
(39:35):
and three? Four and three?
Speaker 2 (39:37):
What are they? Let's just say, uh uh whatever.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
You know, technology is great until it's slow as hell.
They're three, Keep keep talking.
Speaker 2 (39:51):
They're three and three, three and three on the season.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
You know, still still a chance to get three more wins,
get get into another Bowl game this year.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
So it's not not the end of the world. You know.
Speaker 1 (40:05):
The way that they've played has been kind of up
and down. Still some transitions going there. I still think
that there there could be some tough coaching decisions to
be made on this staff. Offensively, they've been very inconsistent. Defensively,
they struggled mightily. There was a couple of games there
(40:29):
that I looked and I thought, Man, is Matt Everfluse
freaking coaching Utsa's defense too, because shit, they looked like
the Cowboys. Uh So, yeah, there could be some tough
decisions coming for coach Trailer.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
What's that?
Speaker 4 (40:46):
That's a damn Buddy Jackson for real?
Speaker 2 (40:48):
Yo? Yes, yeah, exactly, Buddy Jackson. Yeah, back to that game.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
But I mean there's still things to play for, still
opportunities to get six or more wins by the end
of the year.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
So it'll be interesting to see. They have a huge
game this weekend. Man.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
They are traveling up north into North Texas to go play.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
North Texas U n T. They're in Denton.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
North Texas is five and one right now, one in
one in conference play, just like UTSA. So this could
be a big win and a because it could be
a heartbreaking loss. I mean, you just you just don't
know at this point because UTSA, in all honesty, has
been pretty inconsistent throughout the year. Your thoughts on UTSA
and how they may look this weekend.
Speaker 5 (41:41):
Well, then I think this is a really tough stretch
for them, not just with North Texas, but then it's
two Lane after that, it's it's it's South Florida, man.
And I mean, these are all tough games, you know,
But North Texas to.
Speaker 4 (41:58):
Me, I think is starting to waver a little. It.
Speaker 5 (42:00):
You know, there's still a strong team, you know, but again,
I don't think UTSA has the bullets, you know. I'm
just foal flabbergascid that they handle league, just kicked Rice's
ass the way they did, because I thought that there's
just no way that they're gonna, you know, get a
victory there, but that, you know, boy, that they show
me wrong. And I'm just thankful that they're on the winning,
(42:22):
winning side again.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
And hey, man, being three and three ain't no slouch. Man.
You're hanging in there. You're doing what you can.
Speaker 5 (42:30):
The coach is keeping that that that mentality right. You know,
we've met him before. I mean, he can coach, bro,
he can make kids do what he wants them to do.
And and let's not discount him. I think if they
do win this North Texas game, it's because of him.
Now moving forward after that, the two lane and then the.
Speaker 4 (42:48):
South Florida one.
Speaker 5 (42:49):
Man, I don't know what's gonna happen there because we
all know what South Florida did at the beginning of
the season. And it's gonna be fun to watch, man,
It's gonna be good to see.
Speaker 4 (42:58):
We got to make it to another tailgate.
Speaker 2 (42:59):
Bro.
Speaker 5 (43:00):
We gotta get some Goditas, we gotta get some tacos.
We gotta get some something man, some truros or whatever. Man,
we gotta we gotta find a game. We gotta find
a game before the season ends.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
Yeah, man, it'll be good. We'll have to look at it.
Speaker 1 (43:12):
See, we may have to We may have to talk
to your boy David and see if he can get
the hookup for any of the any of the tailgating
festivities there at the one of the UTSA games. Man,
See if we can't get together and go do that
big matchup also this weekend up around the North Texas
north Central Texas area. Baylor versus TCU. That's always a
(43:33):
fun game. Uh, They've had some classics in the past.
Neither team is great, neither team is doing anything special. Uh,
but you know, it could be an entertaining game. You
never know what you're gonna get when you get those
two schools together. There could be some fireworks, man, could
be high scoring. Maybe not a lot of defense played
in this one, so that could be interesting.
Speaker 2 (43:53):
Man.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
But dude, overall, the health of football in the state
of Texas at the college leve is tremendous right now,
and it's only going to continue to get better because
a lot of these high school programs across the state,
especially up in North Texas, especially in Austin in the Houston,
the Beast Texas as they call it, area out east,
(44:17):
and San Antonio has got some good competition too, man,
that their programs are starting to, you know, become some
solid programs in the state as well. I mean, there's
just so much talent in this state, dude. And like
I said, if there's a chance to get three teams
from the state of Texas into the damn Playoff, that
will speak volumes for the programs in this state. And
(44:40):
it would be awesome to see that happen. So I
can't wait to see what these next few weeks are
going to be, Like you knows as excited as I am,
like you, man to see what that A and M
Texas game is going to be at the end of
the year. I don't want to get it. I don't
want it to be here too fast, because that means
that that's the last regular season and game of the
(45:01):
season and then that season is over sorely thereafter. So
I don't I don't need it to get here too quickly.
Just take his time and let it, let it kind
of marinate in simmer and and we'll get there when
we get there.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
So that's all I got, dude. You got anything else
before we wrap.
Speaker 4 (45:16):
This up, don't, sir.
Speaker 5 (45:19):
Just gig them, hook them and I don't know what
the other thing is for Texas tech.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
Gun guns up, guns up, Yeah, yeah. A bunch of
tortilla flippers. I bet you. I bet you all them people.
Speaker 1 (45:30):
I bet you all them people in lovebock that love
to toss tortillas onto the damn field can't do it
without flipping a tortilla with tongs or some sort of
spatula because they burn their fingers and ship bunch of
cowards learn to flip a damn tortilla with your fingers. Man, shit,
I swear Bam poll swarts. True Tech Sports Podcast for
the true tech sports man.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
It's again.
Speaker 1 (45:52):
It's been Ronnie Pat's mark and we're out.
Speaker 4 (45:56):
Peace.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
Peace,
