Speaker 1 (00:33):
And we're back Fan Pole Sports, a true tuck sports
podcast for the true Tux sports fan. Once again, I'm
your host, Ronnie Langford and back at it with the
main men, the cohorts, the fellas, the liars themselves. Straight
out of the seven to one three in the I

(00:55):
can't even imagine how humid it is Houston area. My
long time friend mosen Eliza Day, big Mo, what's up, buddy, Hey.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Thank you for inviting me back.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Out man any many times, anytime it's a good time
to bring the old wolf back into the into the show.
And of course you can't talk fam poll sports without
talking about the main Man himself, the longest tenured friendship

(01:29):
that I have going today. And I'm a little embarrassed
to say that because that just means that my friends
are limited. Man, I need some new friends. The Double
Nickel himself, the Man, the myth, the legend, Mark Ramirez,
mark Ohers, Welcome back to the program, my.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Friend, Hello, hello to and we are back.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Oh and by the way, this isn't This has nothing
to do with what we're about to talk about, but
you know you did that long and hello there here
we go is apparently dead in Dallas, So please do
not bring.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
That up on any future shows.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
We'll talk more about that at a different time, but
I just want to let you know you don't have
to use that one anymore.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Hey man. We've made it to.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
The almost ending point of the NBA playoffs, the conference finals.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
There was.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
I guess a little bit of excitement, especially out East
that that Eastern Conference final I think was a little
more entertaining than the Western Conference final.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
But things kind of went like we thought they would.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Out West Oklahoma City rolled Minnesota for one to advance
to the finals for the second time. I believe in
their franchise history, and of course the rivalry, the renewed
rivalry Indiana versus New York played out pretty much like

(03:03):
we thought it would. I mean, there was some intense,
close games. It was very interesting series. I think there
was a lot of good basketball played, and I think
there was a lot of bad basketball played, but for
the most part, pretty entertaining.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Mark.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
I'm gonna start with you, man, what did you think
of the conference finals? First with Minnesota and OKAC and
then of course New York and Indiana.

Speaker 5 (03:30):
Good thing that I chose the front runner again, right,
because I never really actually knew that iways picked you underdog,
and I'm kind of.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Glad that, Okay, see proved me right.

Speaker 5 (03:38):
But I will say this, I'm still kind of miffed
a little bit about how SGA is the MVP. But
I guess, man, he showed his worth, he showed his metal,
he showed what he needed to do.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
It's just I just wish it would have been a
little bit more of a fight.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
The good thing is is when you kind of beat
somebody down like that, it gives you a little bit
more rest and get you ready for the finals. And
it's kind of weird that it was just every day,
and every single day there was another game, in another game,
in another game. It always seemed it seemed kind of compact,
and I kind of did part of me didn't really

(04:14):
like that because it seemed to like be wearing on
the players and you could see it. You could tell
that they were kind of getting run down a little bit.
But yeah, man, that okay, see matchup, it technically wasn't
you know, And I was.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Expecting a little bit more resistance.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
What about the East? What did you think of Indiana
and New York?

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Wow?

Speaker 5 (04:38):
Man, the first thing I want to bring up, and
it just has to do with Brunson. I know I
touted him he was the best player in the playoffs,
and I know I touted him this, that and the other,
and technically he was to that point.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
But and I picked Nixon six and I didn't.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
I should have phrased it a little bit different Nixon
six and out, because I don't know what they did
to Brunson, and I don't know what they did defensively,
And maybe it's the coaching, maybe it was just the
guy that was I'm not saying he got locked down,
but they took him more or less out of that
series and kind of like the head of the monster,

(05:16):
you know, the head of the snake, like they say,
you know, you you lock the guy down enough and
then he struggles. Then you know, I guess the team
goes where your leader goes. And they did the right thing.
They did the right I guess, lockdown type defense. And
I hope that they can do the same thing again
because those Pacers, man, they showed me a lot as

(05:38):
far as defense goes.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
And I think the Reggie curse Man, the.

Speaker 5 (05:43):
Reggie Mojo, just him being in those seats and being
in that building.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I don't know. Maybe it did play a factor.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
I really don't know, but I'm sure, man, you have
to have double security moving around.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Oh I bet heymo your thoughts, man, what did you
think of that? Knicks Pacers series will start there first?

Speaker 6 (06:02):
Man, I enjoyed it. New York is forever going to
ask themselves those players. That's gonna haunt them forever, losing
that Game one the way they did, because, like I
said it while we were watching it, I said, they
had their snow soles snatched.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
When you lose like that, it just you just hate
the momentum and it's hard to regain it.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
And they will.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Ask themselves for the rest of their careers, especially.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
If they don't win a championship.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
You know what would have happened if we'd have got
Game one.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Projectory of everything?

Speaker 4 (06:40):
You know, now you're playing a Game seven at home,
you know, but.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
You know it is what it is. They took their
foot off the gas.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
They came back to buy them. You know, I think, uh,
Indiana really didn't play hard. I would have liked to
see them.

Speaker 6 (06:59):
Closing in Game five in New York, but they took
the foot off the gas. Wanted to win it at home. Yeah,
I think after game one it.

Speaker 7 (07:07):
Was over well, and I think and it was really
nice seeing uh get that finals, the finals, MVP and
Stee Halliburton and.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
He was going to get it. I thought that was.

Speaker 6 (07:21):
Funny.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
But you know, in the back of my mind, I'm like,
I hope that doesn't.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
Throw off anything with their chemistry. Yeah, the finals, right,
doesn't hold it against them.

Speaker 6 (07:32):
They're both deserving, right, you know, I think the boat
was like five or four.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Yeah, well, and I think I think in that case,
to me, I thought I thought Halliburton had a little
bit better series.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
I think he was a little more consistent.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
I know he had a bad Game five, but you know,
he came up big in game six there, especially late.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
But I mean I would have given it. I was
no problem with getting it.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
But you're right, man, you know these guys, they all
have egos, they all have have an amount of pride,
and I'm sure Halliburton would have liked to have grabbed
that trophy and raised it above his head. But the
bigger prize, obviously is what they were getting, and hopefully
that's enough to keep him satisfied. Go ahead, Mark real
quick before Mogiz his talk on the other side.

Speaker 5 (08:19):
Man, that shot, I mean that is that stuff doesn't
happen every day. Man, I will say this, I wish
it was the game winner. I thought it was a
game winner, just like everybody in that building. And the
cool thing and the coolest thing about it all is
Stephen A. Spike Lee and all those motherfuckers had to

(08:44):
just sit there and watch that.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
And that was just awesome.

Speaker 5 (08:48):
Man, Just the look on their faces, the shot, the awe,
the what the heck just happened? Man, we were up fifteen,
you know, or whatever the hell they were thinking in
their head.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Man, that was beautiful. Man, that was beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Uh And what did you think of what'd you think
of the West Mode? What did you think of okay
See in Minnesota?

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Man, I was really surprised.

Speaker 6 (09:10):
I thought, after the way Denver took okay See the
seven games, I was expecting a long series with Minnesota.
Minnesota had some some rest. I was surprised as how
ineffective Gobert was. I was surprised how easily it was

(09:30):
for for okay See to score, and they just never
struggled to.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Get a basket whenever they wanted and it just shows.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
It shows their death.

Speaker 6 (09:40):
I was really impressed with Jetl Holgrim. Yeah, he played
tough man. I didn't watch him a whole lot during
the regular season, but that guy, you know, you looked
at him and he thought, oh, he's going to be,
you know, just skinny Steven footer. But man, the guy
plays hard. He plays with a lot of heart.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
He's strong. He comes up with big plays.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
You know.

Speaker 6 (09:59):
He can hit a dagger three, you know, or run
in there and jam it when you lose it momentum.
And those are a lot of little things that I
saw him do when I you see Minnesota, maybe try
to do something.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
Right and just kill the moment. I saw that funny
that I was impressed by.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Yeah, you know, I thought I thought both Like I said,
I thought both series we were entertaining. I was surprised
that Minnesota didn't play better in that series. I thought
that they would have played better overall.

Speaker 4 (10:31):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Gobert had a big you know, round two. Uh, but yeah,
he was pretty much non effective. And you know, I
think we talked about it a little bit, Well, how
are these bigs gonna you know, factor into these.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Both of these series.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
You know, and uh it kind of played out in
Okay c his favorite like you say, Holmegren Holgrin paid
you know, pretty steady throughout that entire series. Was a
big presence on the defensive side and and was just
enough of a presence on the offensive side to you know,
keep things moving for his team. Hartenstein obviously played well

(11:06):
in his role, banging with Gobert and moving him around.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
I think that was a big thing.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
And you know, so you know, okay See right now, man,
they look pretty formidable. You know, Mark you said, you know,
can Indiana bring the defense again? Can can they hold
up against the team like okay See, We'll see.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
I think I heard.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
I could be wrong, but I think I heard something
that okay See was like twenty nine to one versus
the Eastern Conference this year and the only team they
lost to was Cleveland in Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
So it'll be very interesting to see what they can do.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Mo.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
I'm gonna start with you, man, are these finals okay
Sees to lose?

Speaker 6 (11:53):
Yeah, A lot of people, all the announcers I was
listening to, they all seem to think okay See is going.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
To run away with it.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
Before I was listening to all their jibber jabber.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
I thought it would.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
I was thinking it's going to be a closer series.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
I'm not.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
It wasn't discounting the Pacers.

Speaker 6 (12:14):
But man, these guys, they're all on the okay see bandwagon.

Speaker 4 (12:17):
Maybe because he's they got the m VP.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Maybe because of the way.

Speaker 6 (12:20):
They just destroyed Minnesota. Uh, you know, you look at
Shay and Halliburton.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
I'm going to consider those.

Speaker 8 (12:28):
Two kind of like a wash where I'm really interested
to see what Chet and Artenstein are going to do
against and in Turner.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
You know, I think.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
Jet just scores so much better than than Miles Turner.

Speaker 6 (12:47):
But Sam is all right, but he's going to be
facing those big guys, and I think that's going to
be a key, uh key point to the series. If
in Turner can score the way they've been scoring, I
think they have a chance. But if the Pigs and
Okay sEH give him a lot of trouble.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
I just think that's going to be tough for the paper.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
I think the one guy that's really gonna play a
factor in this series is gonna be Caruso. I think
him coming in and and getting after Halliburton from time
to time and him being able to guard multiple positions.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
That could that could play a fact.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
I wouldn't I wouldn't be surprised if Okac went to
a little bit of a small ball to to speed
it up, and Caruso guards Sakham.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
You know he he was.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
They threw him in there against Jokich a couple of times. Yeah, so,
I mean, you know, it's not like he's afraid, but
uh so, I think that matchup is gonna be interesting
to see Mark on the Indiana side, Man, do you
do you think Indiana has a shot in this thing
at this point?

Speaker 5 (13:55):
At this moment, I don't see it, but I will
say this, Man, when Halliburton gets hot and that squad
starts running that that can be a big problem. So
how you combat really good defense and depth?

Speaker 2 (14:09):
You running gun? Right? You you take the ball and
you take.

Speaker 5 (14:12):
Off, and man, you just keep attacking what I don't like, man,
And you know you and I kept texting. I kept
texting like, man, they're just shooting too many threes. Bro,
you know you're up ten, you're up twelve, and you
want to close this team out and they just kept
man going to the well out there for three And
I think they made it harder than it should have been.

(14:34):
But man, they showed me a lot against that New
York team. But they really did expose their weaknesses, and
I attribute that to coaching. I think the Pacers are
very well coached. They have a really strong just man
tenacious you know, man, They're just they're a tough team, man.

(14:56):
So I don't think it's going to be as easy
as people think. And nothing against okay, see, but I
don't think they've really had true, true.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Like a test. And they're just so young, man. They're
very young.

Speaker 5 (15:09):
They're strong, they're athletic, they can you know, they can
go real deep in the bench. I'm just excited, man.
I'm excited for the playoffs. I'm hoping that the Pacers
can be coached into keeping it, you know, realistically, you know,
attainable to try and win it.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
But then again, you never.

Speaker 5 (15:28):
Know, man, people there's injuries sometimes and I'm not trying
to jinx anybody.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
There's always injuries.

Speaker 5 (15:32):
And you're right, we're talking about low top shoes earlier,
and that can play a factor, man, because there were
some guys that were getting hurt.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Yeah, you know, Towns was getting hurt. You know, people
were going to the ground.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
I noticed that a lot, and I'm like, man, these
guys are wearing low top shoes now and it's kind
of strange to me, but hey, that's the league and
if that's the fad. But I would never do that.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (15:57):
I mean, I know most and said that he he
seems to think that he seems clinky the high top,
but man, I would never do that ever.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Again.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
The big thing with that is, I mean, if you
notice a lot of the injuries that especially that Indiana
suffered in that Game six, it was because guys got
run into, they got knocked over into one another, they
got stepped on. So I think this series, I think
both benches play a factor in this series. I think

(16:25):
it'll be even if they're all healthy. But right now,
Indiana's got a couple of guys that may or may
not be at you know, eighty ninety percent, So that's
gonna make it kind of hard. But I agree with you, Mark,
I think the coaching is gonna be big in this series.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
You know, Rick.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
Carlisle one of the best coaches in the business. Man
and say what you will about him, the guy is
a coaching Some bitch.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
He's been doing it for a long time.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
He's coached at a variety of places throughout the league.
He's been on the bench several times in a lead,
backup or lead assistant role. Know, he started pretty much
his coaching career in Indiana with Larry Bird.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
He was one of Bird's most trusted allies.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
So it's it's gonna be very interesting to see how
that plays out and and what goes on there. Uh,
the depth of both of these teams, like I said,
is gonna be challenged. Mo, who do you think right
now has the better depth? Okay, See or Indiana?

Speaker 4 (17:26):
A Man?

Speaker 1 (17:27):
It Uh, It's hard to say, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
I was looking at the both.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
I don't know, Man, it's the coin flip. I think
I think maybe Indiana.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
I think I think Indiana they stood that they.

Speaker 6 (17:47):
Could go through some bigger stretches without without.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Halliburton on the floor. Yeah, Okay, he's probably gonna need
s g A on there the whole time. Wow. Yeah,
It's it's too close to say one has a big
advantage over the other. They're both solid. They both have
solid benches.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
Okay, Mark, you talked about Mark, you talked about the
running gun style man that Indiana. You know, when when
they want to get up and down, they can they
can move that ball at the court pretty quickly. Holliburn
showed to have good vision on several several made baskets.
It wasn't even like a steel or a broken play.

(18:27):
You know, they get the ball in quickly and somebody's
racing up the side and he would he would hit
him in stride to get easy baskets.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
Uh. Okay, see wants to play fast.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
So who do you think this up and down pace
is going to favor more? If that's what this turns into.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Wow, man, that's a good question. Uh.

Speaker 5 (18:50):
I want to say the Pacers because here's why. Another
thing that I noticed and and you know this always
goes back to I think the basic stuff.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Free throw man.

Speaker 5 (19:00):
I think they're very well coached and proficient at free throws, man,
because those files when they do come, when they're not
jacking up threes like morons. I think they're very solid,
they're patient, and they make their free throws when they
need to. I don't know if you noticed there was
quite a few misses, right, There's quite a few misses
by New York and those those little misses added up, right,

(19:24):
and they start to put you behind the eight ball, right,
and I think the free throws favor Indiana if they
could get to the line. And these guys are both
teams are just so fast. I mean, they just take
off and this is the running gun Aba type you
know league that you know, you know, the Spurs used

(19:44):
to be part of back back in the day. And
I think it's gonna be really exciting because there's gonna
be a lot of points. There's just speed, athleticism, you know,
and it's a lot more fun this year, I think
since the last and since since the last few years
of what we've been watching, it is kind of just
not very creative, not very entertaining basketball.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
But I think these playoffs are a little bit different.

Speaker 5 (20:07):
Finally, you know, it's it's watchable. And I'm just so
glad that there's two Midwest teams. You remember we talked
about in the past. It's good to know that, you know,
we're not talking about the East Coast and the West
Coast and let's just call it the middle Coast.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
I'm glad that there's two teams that are in it.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
Now that you know, Hey, now all the whole world
has to watch all these teams from the Midwest.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
It may be the lowest rated finals of all time.
I'm just gonna put it out there because you don't
have a big market team. And no, you cannot call
it the Middle Coast. Neither one of these damn places
are anywhere near the damn coast, So no, you can't
call it that.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Oh my god.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
So anyway, yeah, you know, I think it'll be interesting, man,
I think I think it's gonna be I think it's
gonna be interesting to see the pace of these games,
you know, right now. I mean, just looking at it
on paper, right, I give in, I give okay, see
a slight edge on the run and gun because they're
more adept to opening up the floor. Uh, they're gonna

(21:10):
want SGA attacking the basket to get into the free
throw line.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
As annoying as that is.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Uh, you just said it, Mark, that's today's NBA, And
I mean it's it's those types of things that you know,
it's part of the trend, it's part of what it
is right now, and it's gonna be a struggle I
think for Indiana at times to keep Okay, see within
you know, arms arms length, so to speak, to keep

(21:36):
this thing moving like they want to. If if you
go into the fourth quarter and Indiana is within six points,
then I like Indiana's chances. If they're going in double
digits or more, they're they're gonna get blown out and
and it's not gonna.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
Look pretty very fast.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
So uh, it'll be interesting to see how that plays
out for both teams. Mark in your opinion, and who
is the best player left I mean, I know the
obvious question is SGA because he's the m v P.
But in your opinion, who is the best player left
in in the playoffs right now?

Speaker 5 (22:15):
I'm gonna go with SAKA because he showed me a
lot that last game. He showed me that he's got
that killer inkstick, you know. And I know, I know
kind of Halliburton closed the show, but I don't think
that was even necessary.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
It was just kind of it was just a foregun conclusion.

Speaker 5 (22:32):
And I think that's why he didn't get the the
MVP for that for that series.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Not only that, I.

Speaker 5 (22:39):
Think made timely buckets. You know, I think he exposed
a defense where he could. He was a smart player.
He made you know, sometimes he had to make tough
shots and even when he did, he made him you know,
So that's what you want of your your star, quote
unquote superstar, if you want to call him that. I
don't know if I want to call him that yet.
But that's why he was the MVP of that series.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
Man.

Speaker 5 (22:59):
He is making shots that like, Okay, this team's coming back.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
They're they're they're they're making a challenge.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
They're they're trying to take it back, to get back
in that lead or tie the game. And he just
kept making buckets that were at the right time, you know,
big time buckets to just keep.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
That team at bay.

Speaker 5 (23:18):
And I think he's probably the best player right now
in my opinion, but hey, you never know, man, when
you throw out these two teams again, it's always matchups, right,
It's a game of matchups, and who has to defend
now SGA. I'm sorry, man, he's he's you know, heading
shoulders above skam. But if you lock him down like
they locked down, uh the players from from New.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
York, I mean, who knows? Who knows? You might have
a chance.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
Yeah, it all depends. I I you know, I tend
to agree with you. I think Siaka could be one
of the best players left. But it just I mean,
it's it's about the flow. It's about the feeling of
the game. It's about him getting in rhythm.

Speaker 6 (23:59):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
And if you can continue to make some big shots
like you say, man, uh, they're gonna be hard to beat.

Speaker 4 (24:04):
Mo.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Who do you think is the best player left in
the playoffs?

Speaker 4 (24:12):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (24:13):
I mean you gotta go with the m v P
s g A. You know, I think.

Speaker 6 (24:20):
The headline if you're searching for headlines, because you can
say it's the m.

Speaker 4 (24:24):
D versus the most overrated.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
But but I mean, I mean, I know, I know
that would be a great I know that would be
a great thing to tweet.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
And to and to you know, use as a headline.
But let's put that to rest.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
Man.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
I think halla Burton has proven in this playoff run
that he's not overrated.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
No, I know, and I know, yeah, I know you're
not saying that.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
I say it.

Speaker 6 (24:48):
I say it jokingly, like it.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
Yeah, if I were him and I want it.

Speaker 4 (24:51):
I'm definitely will wear overrated shirt.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
When they're interviewing me on the podium.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
But no props to him. Yeah, he definitely to that
as as fire.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
To get him.

Speaker 6 (25:04):
Yeah, get him going yeah, so, but still, I guess
if you're saying who's the most talented.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
You gotta I think you go with SGA.

Speaker 6 (25:13):
I love Siak, I think you're well rounded, but you
know you gotta go with the m v P leve
the league in scoring.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
Yeah, he's there, you know. Yeah. And if you're looking
at the.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
NBA Finals and you got the m v P in there,
it seems like you do something right.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Team with the best records in the finals, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
That's what you want to see.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
So Mosen, I'm gonna start with you. Who do you
got lifting the Larry O'Brien Trophy at the end of
this series?

Speaker 3 (25:45):
And how many games?

Speaker 6 (25:53):
And I don't even want to say with my heart
because I really don't care what the team wins.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
But I was part of me. It was just pulling for.

Speaker 6 (26:02):
Indiana, Indiana and seven.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
Yeah, I could be wrong.

Speaker 6 (26:08):
I have to listen to all those guys thinking the
Pacers are gonna get blown out, but I'll root for.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Indiana Pacers in seven. So winning seven in OKC that
that would be impressive, That would that would that could
be that could be monumental, so to speak. You know,
So Pacers in seven Mark, I'm gonna go to you,
who do you got.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Winning this thing? And in how many.

Speaker 5 (26:34):
I'm gonna say. I'm just sticking with my guys. I'm
sticking with OKC and SGA and but I'm gonna I'm
gonna say them in seven. I don't think Indiana is
just gonna lay down, man. I don't think Indiana's just
gonna you know, I mean that shot, I mean that
shot in game one. Stuff like that just doesn't happen
every day, you know, So.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (26:56):
Maybe maybe they they figure out a way and the
coach gets them in the right places, in the right
position to just, you know, keep it close.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
That's all you gotta do. Man. You gotta you gotta
steal one right on their court, and then you.

Speaker 5 (27:11):
Gotta, you know, get a last second shot, which they've
done and you know they can do.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
And I don't know.

Speaker 5 (27:19):
Man, Again, I'm still with Oka se But I think
it's gonna go.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Seven games, That's what I think.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Could could you equate? Could you equate that shot to
the Memorial Day miracle?

Speaker 3 (27:32):
Could you like like not not to say that? Well, no,
but here's here's why I'm asking this. Here's why I'm
asking this.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
You said it, right, like, those shots don't happen just
for anybody, and it doesn't. Those are the types of
shots that are gonna build momentum to move you forward.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
Right.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
It obviously did that for them in the Eastern Conference
finals that I think that shot helped to close the
door on the overrated talk. So could you take that
shot and say, hey, this is the thing that pushes
them over the top in possibly a seven game series?

Speaker 3 (28:09):
Again, you may.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
I mean people can look at the Memorial Day miracle,
whether you're wearing spurs glasses or not, and say that
that was a bigger shot.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
But I mean, he's on the road.

Speaker 1 (28:20):
They came back from double digits in less than three minutes,
and he was that close to winning it at the buzzer.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
So I mean, could you equate it that way?

Speaker 2 (28:31):
Yeah? I do.

Speaker 6 (28:34):
Yeah, absolutely give him as props that thing. That game,
those last few minutes were still entertaining.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
Yeah, I definitely I put that up there, Martin. Imagine
if we were actually fans of Indiana.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
Yeah, exactly, exactly.

Speaker 6 (28:49):
Yeah, the biggest shot, we say, biggest shot ever.

Speaker 5 (28:52):
Yeah, Yeah, yeah, I was, I was, I was, I
was watching the game and I was just for the
first time in a long time.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
I was literally like, what the you know what I mean?
And that was crazy. You can see anything like that,
But I want you to go back. But I don't
know if you remember this. There was a time when
Willy Anderson made a kind of similar shot. I don't
know if you remember that.

Speaker 5 (29:17):
Will and way back to Willy Anderson made a shot
similar to that. It wasn't for a championship and it
wasn't for none of that, but he made it. He
made a crazy bounce off the rim type shot like that.
It went up real high and came back through. Now
I don't know if they won or lost that game.
I'm assuming they lost because but I remember that something

(29:37):
like that similar happened, but not like that. That was
just the just the moment right in front of New
York and New York thought they had that game in
the bag. And the only reason I cannot, I just
cannot do it is because it just wasn't a game winner.
You know, they still had to go to overtime, they
still had to go and you.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
Know, close the show.

Speaker 5 (29:59):
And if it was have been for the game winner,
I would easily and I would and it's hard for
me to say, because Shawn's my boy, I would easily say, Man,
that's probably one of, if not the greatest shots that
I've ever seen, man, because that just was unreal, dude,
and just the silence, the sucubist that happened in that
that arena, especially against a team that I can't stand.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
Man.

Speaker 5 (30:21):
I loved it, and that was a great moment, and
not only the NBA, man, but I think in the
world because it was crazy. That was a crazy shot.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
Okay, Wait, First of all, First.

Speaker 6 (30:32):
Of all, if you ask people outside of San Antonio,
they'll probably say this was bigger than a wild Day
miracle just because of the dagger it stuck into.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
The New York fans, right, Well, so you look at
it like that.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
So first of all, Mark, don't ever bring up Willie
Anderson doing anything great. If you don't know if he
won or lost the game, and you don't remember exactly
what it was, you just kind of remember that he
made a.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
Sad No, that's it's not the same. Second of all, you.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
I mean that that that shot, that shot, that shot
going down for him is is like you say, it's monumental.
It sucked out the entire New York City, like the
entire thing. Just I mean, even the Statue of Liberty
fell over, Like, come on, you know what I mean?
So you know, to me, those types of shots could

(31:24):
carry a team and give them momentum. I think that's
why they look so good in Game two and why
they took control of the series the way that they did.
H And I think that kind of gave them the
confidence to think, Okay, if we go, if we go
six maybe seven deep, we could still get this thing
because they had that momentum because of that shot, you know. So,

(31:46):
so it'll be interesting to see. For me, my heart,
my heart wants to pick Indiana because I like Indiana
more than I like Okay.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
See, but I'm basketball. My basketball mind is.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
Telling me that OKAC is the better team up and down.
The only true advantage I think Indiana has is at coaching.
I think Carlisle's experience will be a factor in this thing.
So I'm I'm gonna say as a as a just
as a strictly a basketball decision, OKC in five?

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Now? Do I want to see it go longer? Yes?
Do I think Indiana can make it a series? Yes?
Uh am?

Speaker 1 (32:31):
I gonna be upset if Indiana wins it. No, So
you know, like I said, my heart wants to pick
them because, like I said in my Facebook post, there's
no fan base that I love to see suffer more
than New York City and all them trash ass, screaming
A Smith fans and all them other idiots that gotta

(32:54):
have some sort of weird accent when they talk to you,
and they got to say all kinds of stupid shit, bunch.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
Of dumb as.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
Goomba's up there in New York, not in Oklahoma City,
but Goomba's in New York.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
So yeah, I hope, I hope.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
And the other reason I want Indiana to win is
because Mo, you talked about it knocking the life out
of New York. Just think how much it's gonna hurt
them to see Indiana raise that trophy. And speaking as
a Cowboys fan that had to watch the dem Philadelphia
Eagles raise the Lombardi Trophy back in February, I'm just saying, man,

(33:35):
that would be the gut punch of all gut punches
if Indiana could raise that trophy and be the third
ABA original that wins an NBA title. So as we
get ready to wrap this one up. Man, let me
start with you. Mark, what are your closing thoughts as
we get ready to see these finals start on Thursday?

Speaker 5 (34:01):
Choke, just choke New York then, and I'm glad they did.
And yes, there's this heart. My heart is pulling for Indiana.
I just don't think they have enough bulletin they're going
to do it. I think okay C is going to
pull hold up that trophy.

Speaker 3 (34:16):
All right, Mo, what about you as we get ready
to wrap this thing up.

Speaker 4 (34:22):
I like what Mark said.

Speaker 6 (34:23):
You know, heart's pulling for Indiana, and you touched on
an old ABA team.

Speaker 4 (34:27):
It would be awesome to see them get it great coach.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (34:32):
But if Oka se does pull it out knowing that
they won with this crew as opposed to James Harden
and Kevin Durant and Wessell Rustbrook, I'd smile at that.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
Yeah, yeah, you know that to me would be that
would that to me would be one of those things
where you know, you talk about three possible Hall of
famers that were part of that organization when that thing
moved to okac U, and you could make a case
for Westbrook and Harden to go in. I think I

(35:04):
think KD is a Hall of Famer, but I mean,
and I'm not going to be surprised if.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
The other two make it to the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
But you're right, Mo, to see that this is what
they built from that and they're able to lift the
trophy and win it, that would be very interesting and
that would be very cool to see, I think in
that regard. So I can't wait. Man, Thursday night. I
believe it starts at seven point thirty on ABC, which,

(35:32):
by the way, I don't. I'm not a fan of
Richard Jefferson on the microphone. Okay, Doris Burke, I can
go either way with her. I think she's basketball smart,
but I think she tries to be too cute with
her commentary and it doesn't come off very good. I
love Mike Breen. I think Breen is a great is

(35:53):
a great commentator, but I don't. I'm not a fan
of this group of commentators that they have. I'm glad,
believe me when I tell you, I'm glad JJ Reddick
is not calling games anymore, because that's another one that,
like my ears used to believe listening to him call games.
But man, give me Van Gundy Mark Jackson and Mike

(36:13):
Breen bring that bring that group, brat and it'll be
interesting to see last thing before that's it. Hey, the
last thing. Let me go back to y'all real quick.
The TNT Crew moving to ESPN next year. How excited
are you guys about that show moving. I know it'll
be a little different, there will be a lot of

(36:34):
similarities obviously, but but your thoughts on that, Moe, let
me start with you, your thoughts on tn T crew
moving over.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
I'm glad that they are together because I.

Speaker 6 (36:49):
Cannot stand watching people like Kendrick Perkins or whatever women
that they're trying to throw out there.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
On on ESPN. And then I really don't care for
see be a smith.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
I don't think he's ever.

Speaker 4 (37:01):
He can't just be unbiased.

Speaker 6 (37:04):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
I like you said, I haven't liked.

Speaker 6 (37:10):
We need some better people on there, and I'm back,
and then that's.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
The last you know. They're they're the best, They've always
been the best.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
I'm they're still together, Yeah.

Speaker 6 (37:18):
Because if I'm watching a game on another platform, I
usually don't watch the halftime or preview.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
Yeah, Mark, what about you, man, what are your thoughts
on the on the tn T crew moving over to
ESPN next year.

Speaker 5 (37:33):
I mean, I think it's they're a good squad. They
when they're when they're together. I'm gonna be honest with you, man,
I'm just kind of tired of it. I'm tired of
I don't know, man, I want something new, man, I
want something fresh. I want something more fun. And I
think they're and I hate saying it. They were part
of when the NBA was just not looking good and

(37:53):
not looking pretty, and you know, they got to commentate
on half assed basketball. They they could have, I could
have shed a little bit more light on it. I
mean shocked to me. I think he's the weakest link
of the whole bunch. And I'm not hating on Shock.
I mean he was a great player. But there's just
I don't know, man, I just and then ESPN, and

(38:14):
I'm not a big fan of because they always.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Seem to fuck shit up.

Speaker 4 (38:17):
Dude.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
They always seem to mess it up and try.

Speaker 5 (38:19):
And throw in woke stuff in there, and I ain't
throwing political shit in there.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
But we'll see what happens. Let's see how good it is.

Speaker 5 (38:25):
Maybe they can tweak it to give it a little
bit more fun. And a little bit more bizazz, you know.
But we'll see. I mean, it's a wait and see
for me. If they go away, they go away. If
they don't and they stick around, but at least entertain me.
Man entertain me. And I don't know Kenny smith Man,
I've had my fill of him and Ernie.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
I could like.

Speaker 5 (38:47):
Him, man, he could, he could do forever, he could
be there forever and I wouldn't have any issues. And
now Charles, as much as I you know, I have
my crapp he says about San Antonio and women and
blah blah blah blah blah. He's actually entertaining, you know.
And I will tolerate it because at least he's honest, right,
and he's being himself and he's not being fake, you know.

(39:07):
And I can live with that. I can live with that.
But if they can tweak it to make a little
bit more entertaining, I'm on board. I'm on board with that.

Speaker 6 (39:16):
Let me say this real quick, as opposed to anybody else,
when I'm watching Shaq and Charles crack up on each other,
it reminds me of, you know, watching.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
It with you guys.

Speaker 4 (39:26):
You know, you're hanging with your boys. Yeah, don't get
that feeling.

Speaker 2 (39:29):
Watching anybody else. I'm there with you on that. I
agree with that.

Speaker 5 (39:33):
I agree with that, but it's it's it's just it's
just it's to me. I've had my field, bro, you know,
it's like, Okay, can we just try something different? And
I'm not saying throw women in there. And I'm not
trying to say throw throw throw everybody out. I'm just, man,
just make it better. Just make the show better, because sometimes, man,
when I watch it, honestly, man, when I'm watching them

(39:53):
do the the post game, I mean, it just actually
puts me to sleep, you know, it just yeah, But
is it you do the same old thing like you
run the highlights, you talk about the players, you talk
about the front runner players, and you talk about the
guys that did well. And I get all that because
you have to, but at least do it in a
way where I'm not falling asleep.

Speaker 3 (40:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
But but but is it them because of what they're
saying or is it because of what they're talking about?
Because if you're giving me crappy stuff to talk about,
how am I supposed to make that entertaining? Like like
one of the things that I remember Charles talking about
like I remember Charles talking about like people wanting to
force feed the Lakers and talk about how great the

(40:36):
Lakers were, Right, but they're playing crappy basketball. How am
I supposed to talk about that and be excited about that?
If they're playing crappy basketball?

Speaker 3 (40:46):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (40:47):
I mean, at that point, if you don't want them
to commentate, then just do a five minute recap with
Ernie and call it a night, You know what I mean,
Because that's that's what it could be. But I mean,
and I understand what you're saying when it comes to
those things, but I mean, to me, it's they're working
with what they're given.

Speaker 3 (41:03):
And if you're.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
Giving me something to talk about, something fun to talk
about and exciting, then I'm gonna make it fun and exciting.

Speaker 3 (41:11):
But if I'm giving you.

Speaker 1 (41:12):
A poor product and it's a bullshit game, then that's
what you're probably gonna get. You know, because you hear
Charles talking about, well it's twelve oh one, I want
to be out of here at twelve oh six, you
know what I mean. Like, there's a reason for that,
because you just made me sit through four and a
half hours of crappy basketball. Now you want me to
do thirty five minutes of recap of crappy basketball, and

(41:35):
I don't want to do that, you know.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
So you know, I think you both make good points.

Speaker 1 (41:40):
You know, I think there could be a little bit
of a reset that needs to be done.

Speaker 3 (41:43):
They do need to tweak some stuff to make it better.

Speaker 1 (41:46):
I still I'm with you, Mo, I like that show
better than I like any other show.

Speaker 3 (41:53):
And it's hard. It's hard to say that.

Speaker 1 (41:55):
I mean, the only thing that I can equate it
to and I'm Mo, I know you're not a big
football guy. The only show that comes close to this
to me is the game Day show on Saturday's Mark,
you know what I.

Speaker 3 (42:06):
Mean, The ESPN Game Day. Yeah, that's the only show
that comes close to this, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (42:12):
So, but yeah, Man, to me, watching them clown each other,
act the fool, talk some shit, give some ship to
the players. You know, You're right, Mo, that's like us
sitting in Rogers Rogers living room watching games together growing up.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
That's that's what it was for us, and that's the
way you want to feel as a fan. So you know, again,
it'll be fun to see what they're gonna do and
how it's gonna change over there. I'm excited for Thursday. Man,
I can't wait for the finals. I can't believe I'm
saying that, but yeah, this this series could be a
lot of fun. I'm hoping for a seven game stretch

(42:48):
and we'll see how it goes. But anyway, Fan Pole
Sports a true tech sports podcast for the true tech
sports fan. Once again, this has been Ronnie, that's Mo,
that's Mark, and we're out

Speaker 3 (43:01):
Peace.
