Speaker 1 (00:00):
And we're back fan Pole Sports, a true tech sports
podcast for the true tech sports fan. Once again, I'm
your host, Ronnie Langford, back at it, Back at it
for year number three on fan Pole Sports with one
of my favorite guests, one of my guests that is
like a bad brash, he just doesn't go away. My

(00:22):
good friend, my longtime friend, the Broski himself, Arnold Trejo.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Welcome back to the program, Broski. How are you.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Man? I am doing good, Roski. I'm excited. With twelve
days from football August the thirtieth, I can't be more excited.
I'm ready for league orso tramp you on the twenty second.

(00:54):
I got pre season NFL football.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
Going, I got Scotti Jiffler winning golf the tournament. I
got the Houston Astros playing some good baseball. Baseball's in
the middle of mex It's winning down because it's almost October. Oh, Bosky,

(01:17):
you don't know what it feels like to be a
sports fan.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Like me right now?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Well I do know this much.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
You're way too excited about Cowboys preseason football. So I'm
gonna need you to calm the hell down just a
little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
I hope I hope.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Whoever's facing the Astros in the playoffs rises up and
beats the Astros. So I don't have to put up
with your happiness. You and Mark, You and Mark being
happy doesn't make my life easier, let me tell you
right now, it does not make my life easier.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
But you're right, man.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
We are twelve days away from the start of what
some are calling the next great era of Longhorn football.
But that's not what we're here to talk about today. Well,
we'll have plenty of time. We'll have plenty of time
to talk about Arch and you know, the Longhorns and

(02:13):
their possibilities of winning at all. But today I wanted
to get together with you and cover a few other
things before we got into big heavy Longhorn talk and
big heavy.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
College football talk.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
You know, I look at some of these different podcasts
and some of these different articles I read, Man, and
sometimes I come across some stuff that I think, you
know what, I want to see what the Broski has
to say about this. I want to see what his
thoughts are. So one of the things that I came across, Man,
was if you could pick a player from the mid
eighties or nineties who would you love to see playing

(02:51):
on Saturdays right now? If you could pick one of
your favorite players from back in the day.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Wow, Broki, I would like to see two okay and
one is time time himself are Uh yeah, well yeah, wouldn't.
I would love to see the on Sanders player right
now that that would be neat with the fat heavy
offenses that we got right see Michael Ihrman also in

(03:21):
the fat heavy offenses. And then one Dale Stewart Okay,
because he was he was very dynamic, Brocy. He he
could run, he could throw. The first time we'd ever
seen him, there was no offensive for him. Yes, there
was the the option that that Colorado ran, but with

(03:47):
the zone reads and the rbos that we have to
do both the man or they'll sort with. But he's
eating people's lunch. It would be amazing to watch him,
you know, maybe being coached by Start or one of
these good college offensive mine college football, that would be

(04:10):
something great. And then you know, like I said, you know, uh,
one defensive guy I'd like to see on you know, uh,
you'll let somebody get on his island, see how that goes.
And also, you know the playmaker men have, you know,
get him in a pass half the offense. You know,

(04:32):
he talked a lot of trash. You know, could imagine now,
would he'd be talking come up?

Speaker 1 (04:36):
I mean it would be It would be epic if
he was on the field today and all this talking
that he would be doing.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Man, I don't think you have a bad list there, Broski.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
I think those are some of the some of the
best players that we've seen on a college field, some
guys that you could probably take and put in today's
game and would be huge in a lot of ways.
Just to like you talked about Slash, You talked about
how dynamic he was. Think about what people were doing
with Travis Hunt and Hunter last year in Colorado.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Think about Dion being in that same role. Broski. I mean, unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
If that guy would have been an offensive weapon and
then you put him in the kicking game.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Come on, man, come on.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
I'm telling you, BROSI, Dion would I was stuck you
know with like bag receiver like Roy Williams, and and
then like I'd love to see Ricky right now. But
the offensive the offensives that that they're running in today's
game are not you know, eye formation, Upt's beat out

(05:41):
their keys. That's just not it. I don't know how
the big man what what would uh handle it today?
But I'm not saying that the Ricky is not talented
because he could he could run, he could catch out
of the backfield. But my three that I would love
to watch in today's game would be Mike Ravin, deon Standers,
Cordell's score by far. Those are the three three tops.

(06:06):
And in my mind, you know, I gave you a
quarterback and receiver and and on the defensive sign that
that s like just because of what's being rand. You know,
these days it is not you know that that that
pound and ground uh football anymore?

Speaker 2 (06:22):
You know, right?

Speaker 3 (06:23):
They like do you know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Yeah? I think for me, Man and I talked.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
I talked to Mark last week about this, and we
had we had about four or five players on each
of our lists. One guy that that wasn't really on
my list at the time, but I kind of knew
you and I would be talking about it, so I
saved him for this time was a guy that was
played for our.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Beloved Longhorns, and that was Priest Holmes.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
You know, we we never really saw what Priest Holmes
could be at Texas. Uh, he always seemed to have
some sort of injury.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
He never was a full time starter.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
And of course a lot of talent playing with Ricky
Williams there that he was having to play around and with.
So I think Priest Holmes would have been something to
watch in this in this day and age of like
you say, the RPO, the screen game. You know, they
have these bubble screens and stuff. You know, we think

(07:19):
about what Jaden Blue what you know, did last year
and the Longhorns running the playoffs and how effective he
was in the passing game.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Think if you had.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Priest Holmes in that role and what he could do
in that passing game as well as him running that ball.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Between the tackles.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Like you say, they don't line up in the I
formation anymore, but you know you get that pulling guard,
you know, you get around the.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Edge there and Priests could take it to the house.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
I watched I was watching some highlights from the first
Big twelve championship game and they tore up that Nebraska
defense man the vaunted Black Shirts back in the day.
I mean, Priest ran all over them. So he would
be somebody that I'd like to see in this day
and age that that could make a big difference. Another
guy that I didn't even think about until I talked.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
To Mark that night.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
But Michael Vick, dude, I mean, you talk about a
dynamic quarterback, you talk about a guy who could do
a multitude of things, running and passing the ball, running
an RPO, running an.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Option type of type of offense. I think Michael.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Vick would have been the guy that could really really
do some damage in this day and age with his quickness,
with his mobility, and then of course him just sitting
in the pocket from time to time and flinging the
ball all around. He would have been somebody special that
I think could have done some real damage in this game.

(08:48):
I mean, honestly, dude, outside of Dion, I don't know
that there's a there's a I'm sure there is, but
I just can't think of on off the top of
my head. I can't really think of a defensive player
that would have had the same type of impact like
Dion would have. I mean, you could talk about Darrell Reeves, right,
he was pretty special. He was pretty special at Pitt,

(09:09):
but not the dynamic playmaker that Dion is and Dion
was So, I don't know if I have a defensive
guy that I can put in that category, but I
will say this.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
I will say this.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
You want to put a guy that can block for you,
You want to put a guy who can open holes
on the offensive line for you. You know, a guy that
I would have loved to have seen throwing people around today,
and we never saw him in college. We didn't see
him really until he got to the pros would have
been Larry Allen. Think about that offensive freak pulling around

(09:51):
the corner and opening a hole for these offenses, or
sitting there and knocking guys down and protecting a quarterback
somewhere across this nation. Larry Allen could have had, could
have had that type of impact. Brosky, Just imagine that
man beast, that man beast out there doing that. Just
imagine that for just a second.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Bro Broski. I mean with the quick screens and all
that cauld he imagine him coming up the left guard
and then you got this boheman six foot four, three
forty guy that did that run and is that job
like you know, if he was a skill player, that
that would be that would be something special to see

(10:37):
right now. Yes that I've never thought, you know, an
offensive lineman I'd love to see. But yeah, yeah, big
Larry Allen, I would love to see him.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Dude.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
I even thought, you know what about uh Jel Green
down here from kinso man, true, you know the world's
fastest man, you know on turn, how would he do
in today's game?

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Well, you know what, Brosky, if there, if there was special.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Right, I was gonna say he played for the whatever.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
You want to call it over there in Washington, But
when he was down here in Kingsville and even in
the pros, that dude was special.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
No, for sure.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
And if you're gonna if you're gonna have one guy,
I guess if you could have one guy that would
have been able to possibly be the type of playmaker
that Dion was. Darryl Green was that guy. He was
the fastest man for a long time.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
You know.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
He he he put him up and down, and he
he could he could.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Hang with anybody running routes and taking care of business.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
You know another guy that we never saw really in college, Broski,
And I know he.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Was a little bit before your time.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
You probably saw him more towards the end of his career,
and that was Jerry Rice. Can you imagine Jerry Rice
playing in these offenses today? Can you imagine him playing
with Start under a Start coached offense in today's world?
Or he yea or even uh even Lane Kiffin, you know,

(12:05):
having having Lane Kiffin as his coach. Imagine how much
stuff could be done with him on a field.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Man.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
So, dude, there's so many great former players that you
could put in this era and they could probably be
as successful or more successful, uh than what they were
because they were just there was just so many playmakers,
and we didn't. I don't think we took it as
seriously as they do now as far as like the

(12:32):
coverage and the media that these guys get. I think
I think some of those guys missed out on big
opportunities just because they went to smaller schools like Darryl Green,
like Jerry Rice, you know, shout out to you know,
Texas A and I Kingsville. I know it's A and
M Kingsville now, but you know it's in my house

(12:53):
for a long time, it was Texas A and I
because my had family that went to school there. And
then of course Mississippi Valley State know so.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
And Johnny freaking Bailey. Yeah, bro bro wow, but him
it starts off. Let him be the r be one
was good Brosky.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
We could literally we can literally sit here, We can
we can literally sit here and put together a list
of players that have come out of Kingsville and have
a whole episode on those guys alone.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
Oh yeah, So when you're ready, when you're ready yet?

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Oh yes, we definitely need to get one together like
that because Johnson to all be on there.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
When you're ready, they would, they would teams they would
find these days. Oh my goodness, that would be fun.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Yeah, that's why I'm saying, you tell me when you're
ready to have that one.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
Another dynamic it uh, Broski would would be And I
want to say, I remember this kids playing both ways.
But Bailey, Ye, Cam Bailey, they played both ways at Georgia.
He he was a good covered owner and he played
good man was was was pretty good in zones. So yeah,

(14:21):
he would be another one. And that you know, I
would like to see him in today's past heavy uh,
you know, playing defense on on the with the past
offenses that there is today. I think that would be dynamics.
I mean you could go on and on and one,
you know, just like you said, I mean you could

(14:41):
pick a school and say, hey, well this guy and
this guy, and hey, you know what what about You know,
I was very tandarsed to today's offenses because I mean
he was dude, froll freaking Jackson, thro freaking Jackson people.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
I mean, you're you're you're naming your name. You're naming
some of the guys that Mark and I talked about.
We talked about bo We talked about Barry, We talked
about herschel Walker. Herschel Walker was another one that that
he was special at Georgia. Man, he could he could
do a lot once he got on that corner. Dude,
you weren't going to catch him once he got in
the open field.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Man.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
So yeah, like I said, dude, we could talk for
hours about eighties and nineties guys. And like I said,
whenever you're ready to do that, texas A and I, uh,
you know, roster breakdown, you let me know and and
and we'll make it happen, bros. Gap promise we can
do that. Another topic, man, that that I saw recently, Uh,

(15:40):
that I thought. You know what, the Broski probably has
some things to say about this and the uniforms, the
tradition of foot of college football.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
Man. You know, I told Mark.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
I'm a traditionalist, okay, I when it comes to uniforms,
I'm all about the tradition.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
I understand. It's not like that anymore.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
You have to put out product now that you get
people's attention, you get eyes on you, you get you know,
people to notice what you're wearing and what you're doing.
And believe me, there's no one in this world that
you know that can wear brighter colors or pull off
certain patterns like I cam brose Ki.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
So I get why you do.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
You know, we have some of the things that we
do out there in the football world. But when it
comes to football uniforms, man, who do you think are
some of the teams that have some of the best
uniforms out there going today?

Speaker 3 (16:42):
I'm like you, Broke, I'm traditional.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
You know.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Top of the list is going to be our school
right there down the road a few hours in Austin,
of ut Love their traditional Helen. No would be not
to dame, you know, just just your regular that they've
added for for years. The the you know l s

(17:06):
U like that you're brighter schools, You're you're newer. You
know that they changed their logos and whatnot. Uh. I
would say TTU and Oregon would be at the top
of the list because they're they're their their graphics, they're glittery,
they're you know, they got the the zaz or whatever

(17:26):
you want to call it. You know, they got that
that that I catching. It's like that I catching candy.
You know when when you walk into that candy starts
like ooh, I want that.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Right.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
That's what TCU in Oregon have As far as Jersey,
but that's that's my real size. You know. Also themselves,
I'm more of a traditionalist, you know. Uh, you know,
like your ute jersey, your A and M jersey, Nebraska jersey.
You know, they you know, with something they hadn't changed much.
They so at the big at zobe on the side
of their helmet, white helmet, red w you know, red top,

(18:00):
white bottom. You know, simple. You know, it's the same
thing as the longhorn. That's a longhorn. That's the order
of the white helmet, you know, burnt orange. Whether it's
it's top, bottom, bottom, top, it don't matter. It's it's
simple that that's the way I like it. I don't
need you know, the three D, four D you know,
eight G graphics for my damn jersey, you know, right,

(18:22):
I like it and I like it simple, you know,
you know, And that's what those are my thoughts on that.
It's quick, it's simple, it's sweet. That's just the way
I feel on it, you know.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
And like you say, like the and like I told Mark,
the to me, the flashier ones, the ones that are
trying to get your attention, the one that are constantly.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Changing things up.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Those are the teams that maybe don't have a traditional
say in the sport. I mean, I know TCU is
something back in the day, uh And I know there's
been times during the two thousands that they've been something,
but I mean, pretty much in our lifetime, Broskie, they
really hadn't been anything special, you know what I mean.
So you're right, they had to do something to get

(19:04):
your attention. The same thing with Oregon. Nobody saw Oregon
back in the day. Nobody paid attention to them until
probably the late late eighties, maybe mid nineties, you know,
when they started becoming a more consistent power out there
in the pack pack, ten pac, twelve pack, sixteen pack,

(19:25):
your lunch pack, your bags, you know, whatever it is
conference that that is out there, you know what I mean. So,
I mean when you look at that, you know they
had to do something. They had to do something flashy
to start drawing attention. And of course, when you have
the big machine that is Nike in your backyard and
the owner of the company likes to feel feed your

(19:49):
program with donations and money, you know you're gonna take
advantage of that. And they certainly have and to their credit,
I mean, they have some cool looking stuff from time
to time, but it's not always the best in my opinion.
When you look at helmets, Broski, who are some of
the teams with the best helmets out there that that
have always been some of your favorites.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
Uh, just just like like I said, bro Sea, you know,
the Longhorn, the Michigan helmet, h Man, the twenty four
carre goal, Notre Dame helmet. Brother, It's it's classic. It's
old school and it ain't changed, and it's rudy days.

(20:38):
You know, they spray it on and it you know,
it's it's it's it's a painful. You know, it's you know,
it's college football. You know you see gold helmet, it's
you're you got two teams. I think, I think what
it maybe maybe has good helmts and more dame, right,
and the population is gonna go not to day. You

(21:02):
know that those they all that's a Notre Dame. And
then once you see the nd on on top of
the face mask, you know you know for sure. But
I'll tell you another little snazy one then that they
caught my eye and then I kind of liked it
was I don't remember what year it was, but it
was a bowl game that PCU brought out that black

(21:25):
uh filmet with that the little that crazy looking or
frogs kind of purple leg right with and then they
had the purple face mask that looked nice. It looked clean.
It was it was edgy. It was new, but it
wasn't out there in left field you know where it's

(21:48):
just like eh no, this one they looked clean. It
looked nice. It was like wow, I was like, I
like that. I can watch that. You know, I'll watched
the team that the kind of snazy, but as a
fun as I can say, man, you're you're you're toup
to that there. You know, the few that you can
say is like Ohio State, usc U, c l A,

(22:09):
and all those plastic helmets. Man, those those are the
ones that I like.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
Yeah, So I will never mention the suck guys on
this program as giving them credit for anything.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
I don't care about their uniform. I don't care about
their name.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
I don't care about them stupid ass stickers they put
on their helmets. I don't care about their silver helmets.
I don't care about anything about that damn team. They
don't mean nothing to me. So I'll never give them.
I'll never give them any kind of real credit.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Uh, they're right up there. They're right up there with
that other.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
State that has an O in the beginning of their name,
and you know what I think about them, those that
are north of the Red River. But you're right man,
those traditional looks again they went out, you know.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
The longhorns.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
I mean, that's you can call it iconic if you
want to, because what other what other school has a
longhorn as a logo at the college level.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
You know, they're they're not very many, or I don't.
I can't think of another one that has it.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
I can't think of one either.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
Yeah, but you know, you have multiple teams that are
like Aggie's. You have multiple teams that are Tigers, Cougars.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
And stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
So that's one of those things where it's unto itself.
It's it's a standalone type of thing. And then of
course you have your Alabama's, your Wisconsin's, the Michigan one.
The only traditional one that I'm not really a fan of,
Broski is probably Penn State.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
I mean, it's a white helmet with a blue stripe
on it. Okay, I get it, But at the same time,
it's just like you're Penn State, you know whatever. So yeah,
So so those are some of the ones.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
You know.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
I say this every time the name comes up. Dude,
I am not a fan of nore Dame. I grew
up Catholic. I understand what that all means to the
Catholic you know, football fans out there and everything, the
touchdown Jesus and the gold helmet and Rudy and all
this other stuff. But that's one that I could never

(24:15):
I could never get behind. That's one that I was
never a fan of. But it is a cool look,
you can't, like you say, the spraying the twenty four
Garrett carrot dust on the helmets, that's a pretty cool tradition, man,
So that's kind of a that's kind of a neat thing.
So I will say that much about those helmets. You know,

(24:36):
when you look at how college football has changed just
in the last couple of years, Broski, with the realignment,
teams moving from conference to conference, and there's still talk
that there could be other moves in the future. We
know a team in our backyard. I mean more so
my backyard than yours because you're a little further south
than I am. But Texas State getting ready to move

(24:57):
over to the Pac sixteen or whatever it's going to
be be out there, uh next year, I believe with
realignment changing the college football landscape, with Texas being in
the SEC, is there one team in the SEC that
you would remove and replace so you could see them

(25:17):
play Texas on a regular basis.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
Huh, Well on on on that part, bros King. Uh.
The way is the SEC is the dynamic of it.
What team when I would place I would say, I don't
think maybe like Vanderbilt and maybe bring in like a
stronger team I wouldn't say, couldn't off the top of

(25:54):
my head. I don't know. Maybe somebody maybe from the
Big twelve that's a little closer, uh. I mean you
can go maybe one of the teams from the TUC
that's further south. Uh. But I want to say, all
in all, the way the SEC is set up, they're
they're pretty solid conference. They cover many different sports as

(26:20):
far as championships and whatnot.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
They go.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
So yeah, I would I would probably just leave it alone.
I mean you could argue, you know about maybe pushing
out Missouri or or like Vanderbilt, but I know they've
been well mainly, Vanderbilt has been a staple on the
SEC for for a while. I mean maybe not winning wise,

(26:42):
but they've been with the conference for a very long time.
As far as I can remember. Missouri has been bouncing around.
They were Big twelve and then went, uh, you know whatnot.
But as far as bringing in a team into the SEC,
the I don't know who you would bring in because

(27:05):
you don't want to bring in somebody strong, and there's
really nobody strong. I mean you can make cases for
like TCU.

Speaker 5 (27:13):
Texas, TEGU, Oklahoma State, Uh, you know, but other than that,
I don't know. Maybe maybe like North Carolina or Oh Miami, Boom,
there you go, Rosie, Vanderbilt Miami. You switch off those
for Vanderbilt and acc bring Miami into the SEC, and

(27:36):
then you got some college.

Speaker 3 (27:37):
Football right there. That That's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Interesting.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
It took me a manager to walk through a prosy.
But bring it in a big stud like Miami into
the SEC would be nice. And if you have to
get rid of Missouri, you bring in Florida State, the
next biggest money maker that there is out there. Yeah,
and then see how that well.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
But the thing though, The thing there, though, Brosky, is
you and I can remember when Miami was good. You
and I can remember when Miami meant something to this sport.
Miami hasn't meant what it had in the past to
the sport. Now, of course you're putting Texas and Miami
on television. People are gonna watch, people are gonna pay attention,

(28:24):
you know what I mean. There's gonna be a draw there.
But you know, I don't know that it's I don't
know that it's any bigger than if you put Texas
and Texas and Florida State on there. You know that's
going to be a draw too, you know what I mean.
I mean, because you have name recognition. With the programs,
I'm with you, man, it's kind of hard to see
who would you put. I mean again, I agree, Vanderbilt, Missouri,

(28:47):
maybe even Kentucky, any one of those three teams, Mississippi State.
You could get rid of any one of those teams
and replace them with somebody else, and you know it
would be just as good, if not better football if
you in a different program. For me, Texas being in
the SEC and having a chance to play A and
m Arkansas and OU every year, that's we don't have

(29:11):
to change anything if that's if that's what we're getting
every year, and the way that it's been set up,
that's what we're getting every year. So I'm perfectly content
with the way that is. I don't have them. I
don't have them.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
Changing anything or bringing in anybody else.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
Again, there's a reason why you left the Big twelve
that had schools like Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma State. You know,
there's a reason why you left because those whereas some
of those programs are really good and they've done some
things in recent years. They don't have the staying power
of the teams in the SEC.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (29:49):
So yeah, I mean to me, I agree with you, man,
there's not too much there that I would change. But
if I could swap out any one of those four
teams I mentioned with my Ami, with the Florida State,
even with the North Carolina or Clemson, sign me up
for that.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
I'm good with that.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
But if you're telling me that every couple of weeks
Texas is going to have to play oh you, Arkansas
and A and M, I'm even more excited about that.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
That's That's that to me is football heaven.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
In a lot of ways, this this question, Brosky, I
don't know how you're gonna answer it, but I know,
I know as Longhorn fans, we've seen some heartbreakers in
our in our time. I know there have been disappointing seasons,
disappointing moments, but there's some some big time heartbreak there too.

(30:45):
If you could change the outcome of one play for
our Longhorns, what would it be and why?

Speaker 3 (30:57):
And listen here, Ronald, There's only one game that you
need to change, Longhorn, and it is the game that
took out that's one plague that he heard his arm.
Home boy, doesn't hurt his arm another national championship.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
Yeah yeah, I promise you that.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
Even Alabama fans say that.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
So, if there's one play that you can change, it
would be that one play the player that old McCoy
got hurt.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
You know, Broski, I think whether you're a long term
or short term Longhorn fan, if you know about that game,
if you saw that game, I think everybody is picking
that play because it was, like I said, it was heartbreaking,
you know what I mean, because you knew if he
could have played, he would have played, Like even if
his shoulder would have been hanging there, but he would

(31:57):
have still had a strengthen it to be able to
throw that ball, to be able to do the things
that he was doing as a quarterback that year. If
he could have played, he would have and he would
have left every ounce of blood, sweat and tears on
that field to beat that team. I'm not saying that
Alabama wouldn't have become a power. I'm not saying that

(32:17):
they wouldn't have still done some of the things that
they did, Okay, But all I'm saying is Nick Saban
has one less national championship under his title.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
If Colt McCoy doesn't get hurt.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
And that is the one argument, that is the one
argument that I will die on that hill. I will
die on that college football hill that there's nothing that
anyone can say that will ever convince me that the
Texas Longhorns would not have beaten Alabama that January night

(32:52):
if Colt McCoy doesn't get hurt.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
Yep, you're when you when you brought up your question,
I was like, that's not even a question. There is
only one play in Longhorn legacy that if it could change.
If that one play, if he doesn't get hurt that
one play and he plays the rest of the game,

(33:17):
it's a guaranteed win.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
The the only and I'm not.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
Even gonna say it was gonna be close. It wasn't
even gonna be close to the way he came out broke.
It wasn't even gonna be close. I'll tell you that
right now.

Speaker 2 (33:31):
You think, you think about what Johnny.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
Alabama, and you you say there wasn't even gonna be close.
Colt was gonna walk all over him, And that's nothing
you can say. It changed my.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
Mind well, I was gonna say, you think about what
Johnny Manziel did to that Alabama defense, and he wasn't
even the passer that Colt McCoy was. So can you
imagine Colt to Shipley all night long, Kwan Cosby underneath?
I mean, come on, man, you know what I mean.
Then with that running game with Jamal Charles back there,

(34:02):
I mean, come on, man, there's nothing that anybody could
say that can convince me just like you. There's no
way that anyone can say anything definitively that would make
us believe that they wouldn't have beaten that Alabama team,
you know what I mean? And with all due respect
to Alabama and what they've accomplished and what they became
after they won that title, but that would have been
one less title for them to walk around with. And

(34:24):
mac Brown would have left Texas that next week with
a championship under his belt a second time, and that
program would have been turned over to Will must Champ.
And how different would UT football look if Will Muschamp
had been at the Helm with Mac Brown supporting him
than what it ended up being. So there's a lot

(34:46):
of would it could have should have that would have
come out of that game if Cold McCoy doesn't get hurt. Broski,
I know our time is getting close to being over,
but I do have one other question real quick.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
You know, the living legend himself, Lee Corso, is.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
Gonna be at that Texas Ohio State pregame show the
last game day for Lee Corso. I wanted to see, Man,
what are your thoughts real quick on coach Corso and
what are some of your favorite memories of college game day?
And and him being behind the mic.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
Man just his catch phrases. Man, you know, hold on
a minute. You know it's gonna because it's gonna be missed,
and him you know, you know, putting on a mascot
head of the teams that he thought, you know it's

(35:45):
gonna win, right, and him betting against everybody else on
you know, on the cast, and you know, being like, oh,
everybody thinking Notre Dame to win, but you know what,
I'm gonna go with USC for this one and streight
up what happened. USC would win, or you know when everybody,

(36:07):
when everybody picked Michigan to beat the Texas law horn,
oh leave put on Bevo big ass head on his head,
and you know what did we do we want right? So, uh,
him to find the odds and being that that, you
know that one announcer will be like, you know what,

(36:28):
I think this can happen, and it actually happening for
his knees, you know it since was nineteen eighty something
that he's been doing this, dude, I watched it. I
watched a lot of his his his commentating, you know,
in the nineties, you know a lot of it in
the two thousands, you know, getting up early in the
morning just to watch ESPN for a little bit. Yeah,

(36:49):
you know, before you got on on your day or
you went and did something, or you had something to do,
you know it. It's those those are my biggest memories
of you know, just him being that that commentator that
you know, no, this this team not gonna win, this
other team's gonna win. Yeah, you know, and him being right.
You know a lot of the times you know, and

(37:11):
then you know that was a lot of times that
he went and he chose, you know, but it was
it was clearly that you know, teammates him be tem
b regardless of what it was. So so yeah, so
that's that's what I'm gonna miss it's just him, and
I'm saying, hold up, hold up, wait, wait, wait a second, here,

(37:32):
wait a second here.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
Well, you know, and that's and that's the thing right
like there, like you say, the catchphrases, the the hold up,
the not so fast, my friend, you know, all of
those different things that he brought to the table.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
Brosky.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
You know, it's gonna be it's gonna be bittersweet to
see him put on that head gear for the last time,
you know. Obviously one of my favorite, one of my
favorite times was him putting on uh it wasn't Bevo's head,
but they had the big foam finger, the hook him
home foam finger when he put that on. When they
beat USC and the Rose Bowl for the National Championship.

(38:06):
Everybody picking USC, it was gonna be a landslide, and
like you say, he said, hold on, not so fast,
my friend, and he put up the long Horns. The
only guy, the only big name guy that picked the
Longhorns to win that night.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
And he looked like a genius because he did it.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
But so many great memories, I mean, the costumes, the outfits,
the mascots, the heads, you know, the fans, there's so
many things that college game day is what it is.
And I think a lot of it has to do
with Lee Corso because people really felt that they could
be themselves because he was just being himself. He get

(38:41):
out there, say stuff, do stuff, and act a fool
and it was a great time.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
Man. But yeah, shout out to coach.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
It's gonna be different after week one seeing who they're
gonna be, and I know they're not gonna replace him.
They're not gonna bring anybody else to do the head gear.
The head gear thing will be retired after game one,
and rightfully so. But at the end of the day, man,
you know it'll be a good time. Game Day Columbus, Ohio,
the home of the suck Eyes, that trash ass.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
You know state that is Ohio. Uh, you know, so
it'll be It'll be a good time.

Speaker 3 (39:14):
Man.

Speaker 1 (39:15):
I can't wait August thirtieth, eleven am the kickoff.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
You know it's gonna be huge. It's gonna be huge,
and I can't wait.

Speaker 1 (39:23):
So, like I said, Broski, we're gonna have to get
together soon talk Longhorn football specifically, we'll do that.

Speaker 2 (39:29):
We'll do that in the next week or so.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
I know, you have a lot to say about one
Archibald Manning. You know, because you've been You've been pretty
excited about this kid for a long time. Man, So
we we get to see if the hype is real
or not.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
You know. So it's gonna be good. You got anything
else before we wrap this up.

Speaker 3 (39:50):
Now, Brookie, just stamp boat Nation. I'm glad to be
back on your airwaves. We took some time off. God
thing's going. It's you know, another Jesus coming up. It's
gonna be a good one, y'all. Hang on and get
ready to listen to some good, good discussions.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
Yeah, it's gonna be with that. With that, Brosk, I
know you gotta go, so we'll see you soon. Like
I said, it'll be a good time and I can't
wait for us to get together again, all right. Shout
out to the family, Shout out to Gabby, Shout out
to Daniel, Shout out to Trey. Trey, stay out of trouble, Tray,
stay out of trouble.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Do not be like your dad.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
Hey, Brosky, from from up here, from up here, a
stock though, man, I say to you peace.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
We'll see you soon. Take care, take it easy, Bob,
