Speaker 1 (00:09):
That's what I don't.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
And we're back Fan Pull Sports, the Chruse text sports
podcast for the true text sports fan once again. I'm
your host, Ronnie Langford, back Addicts under the Stars at
night because they're big and bright, deep in the heart
of Texas with the main man, Mark Ramires, Markomer's welcome
back to the program, my.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Friend, lookout you one and hook them.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Gig them, hook them guns up, birds up them cats,
pony up and whatever that stupid thing is that that
TCU and and uh U of HD with their fingers
whatever all that shit is.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Hey man, big, big, big weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Of college football coming up, Longhorns, Aggie's Red Raiders, all
the all the top teams in Texas back in action
this week, all three of them with big conference games.
Texas Texas A and M playing their conference opener and
(01:39):
the Red Raiders playing an old Southwest Conference Classic against
the University of Houston, both teams coming in undefeated. What
is your excitement level as we start to build to
the conference part of the football season for our favorite
(02:02):
college teams.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
I'm excited, Bro. I'm starting to think that you're a
profit because I think you said at the beginning of
the season, you thought that maybe three teams could from
the state of Texas could be in the Dirty Dozen,
and I don't know, maybe it would be four, and
that would be something Man from the old Southwest Conference,
from the Big twelve, from the SEC, you name it.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
I don't care where they come from.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
That would be a sight to see, bro because I
don't think we ever envisioned not only like a twelve
team playoff, but for the state of Texas or maybe more.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Who knows.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
We'll see what happens. Man, I'm really excited about Texas
football and a lot of big winners this weekend.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
I mean, realistically, these are the three best teams from
Texas that have a chance to make it to the
playoff because basically, I think whoever loses is Texas Tech
Houston matchup is probably gonna be out of the running
for the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Unless they win their conference.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
I mean, that's a lot of football to be played
between now and Selection Sunday, and Dirty doesn't reveal.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
But you know, I think this matchup is gonna be big.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Like I said, Man and m is playing Mississippi State
on Wow Saturday night, so that'll be a good one
under the lights there at Kyle Field. You know, there's
a different vibe, there's a different magic under the lights
there with the twelfth Man in Kyle Field and the
Long Horns going on the road visiting Florida for the
(03:41):
first time in about sixty plus years to go to
the Swamp for the first time as SEC members. A big,
big matchup there for the Long Horns. You know, we
talked about the struggles that Arch has had early on,
We've talked about some of the that have gone on
with them. Uh, so that'll be a big one come
(04:04):
Saturday afternoon. Again, we already talked about the Texas Tech
Houston game. TCU has got Colorado coach Prime making another
trip to Fort Worth on Saturday night.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
So yeah, dude, there's there's a lot of good.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Matchups this weekend, matchups that are gonna really tell the tale. Hey,
another one, it's not Texas related, but it's a it's
a classic rivalry game. Miami going to Florida State on
Saturday night. That could be a big matchup as well
to watch. That ought to be a fun one.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
But let's talk about your aggies. Man U four and
oh top ten.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
I want to say they're either seven or eight, depending
on what poll you're looking at. What is what is
your excitement level for what they've done so far and
what's ahead of them? Big matchup this week against Mississippi State.
Mississippi State much improved compared to the last couple of seasons.
(05:08):
So what are your thoughts on that matchup? Saturday night
in College Station.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
My first two words are going to be wrecking crew.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Man. Finally, this Elco.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
Style type of defense showed up and showed out, and
it was like I was watching a football game from
back in the fifties. You know, we gottahad him at time,
We had inside and that whole.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Lot, and it was like that, bro.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
It was just defense on both sides of the ball.
A lot of tough stops. But I mean, Marcel Reid
seems to always rise above, uh, rise up to the occasion.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Man.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
He was.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
He was doing what he needed to.
Speaker 5 (05:52):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
He's got Concepcion dialed in. He's got Craver dialed in.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
The running game is running, is working.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
It's doing what it's supposed to.
Speaker 5 (06:01):
It is what I expected and what I wanted to
see for this team this season and that game, I
felt that it was a track game because that team
that was hungry. They came into Kyle Field with a
really good game plan and then they got that one
lucky play there near at the end of the game
where they kind of, you.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Know, lucked their way back into it.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
But the cool thing about what a M did was
they shut that shit down. Bro. They just said, you
know what, let's just close the door on these guys.
We're done playing games. And they finished it out. I
think it was a fourth down play where they sacked
the quarterback and there was a lot of sacks, there
was a lot of tackles. There's a lot of things.
That one one big stat that stood out to me
(06:43):
and I could probably get probably get fact checked. I
think they were over thirteen or over fourteen on third
down conversions, so, in other words, they did not convert
the first down on third down the entire game. That's
saying something about the defense. Maybe it's the twelfth man
mystique like we talked about in the past. I don't
(07:04):
know what it was, dude, but they were swarming to
the ball and I mean, I could not be more
excited because it was it was a hard fought game.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
But they did still come out on top. And another
thing I want.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
To say about Marcel Reid, he just seems to be
getting more and more poise in the pocket, finding his guys,
finding the right planes to throw in, and then finding
the right lanes to take off when he needs to.
And again, like I said, you know, long before the
season started, day to sit down when you need to
brow And he's smart, he's being smarter, he's being more calculated.
(07:39):
And man, did did Elcho do him a favor by finding,
you know, these guys from the portal and just to
play up his strengths and it and it and it
just shined that game.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Now again, I.
Speaker 5 (07:52):
Know it's just the beginning of the season. We're just
a few games in. I'm not gonna get over my
skis because you know, a lot of things can happen
from now to the end of the season. But man,
am I excited because that Notre Dame game, that's a
pretty big high that's a pretty big, you know, obstacle
and mountain decline. They challenged, they got challenged, they rose
(08:13):
up to the challenge. And then there's a there's a
really there's a really bad thing that happens when those.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Kind of games happened the following week.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
They kind of have a little bit of a letdown,
and I kind of think that they did a little
bit more or less, but the running game kind of
kept them ahead of ahead of the Auburn and they
just they just they just kept implementing what they do,
you know, playing to your strengths, doing what you need
to and they came out with the victory.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Yeah, man, I think it was a good game for them.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
I think you're right, dude.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
I think there was a little bit of a letdown
because you know, Auburn obviously.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
A good team. I guess maybe an average team at best.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
So yeah, I think I think there was a little
bit of a letdown on the A and M side.
But you're right, man, the defense played well, the running
the running game got.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
Going, and.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
It's you know, it's it's the it's it's one of
those things man that if if they can get.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
Through those types of games right.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Then then there's a there's a good possibility, man, that
they're going to be there right at the end for
in contention to possibly pay for the conference championship.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
Or or make the playoff.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
So it's gonna be interesting to see how things pan out.
This is another one of those games. Mississippi State on
paper should not be in the same stadium as A
and M talent wise, but they're they're different. They they
have a different mentality, they have a different way of
going about things.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Now. Uh there there. They have a second year coach
that you.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Know, now he's starting to really implement some of his stuff.
Not at the same level as Elko, uh because I
think I think A and M had much better talent
with Elko coming in than what Mississippi State had uh
for for their co coach. But again, I think that
they have the opportunity to, you know, make it an
(10:06):
interesting game. But A and M, I think is gonna
pull this out in the end and give themselves a
chance to remain undefeated and.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Move on from there. My Longhorns man, big game.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Like I said in the Swamp against Florida, Florida's had
a tough stretch here.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Not gonna lie.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
They got upset a few weeks ago at home against
South Florida. South Florida is not one of the top
programs in the country. I understand that they're not a
blue blood, They're not a contender.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Blah blah, blah. But there's still plenty of talent.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
In Florida and they put that on display a few
weeks ago when they went in there and upset them.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
I believe it was eighteen sixteen.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
They got the doors knocked off of them against LSU
and against Miami, two teams that are better than Florida.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
So they got a bye week. Texas has had.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
A bye week, so you know, this is the chance
for Texas to really give Arch an opportunity to get better,
give him an opportunity to make plays with his legs,
make plays in the air. You know, they whooped the
snot out of sam Houston State, and they were supposed
to whip the snot out of sam Houston State. I
understand it's sam Houston State, but they're supposed to whip
(11:27):
the shit out of teams like that, and they did that.
So I think this game comes at the right time.
I think it's gonna be very interesting because the Longhorns
are gonna get back both of their top two running
backs excuse me, in Baxter and Wisner. So I think
that that's gonna help Arch to have those studs in
(11:47):
the backfield to run the ball. He finally started to
make some connections with his receivers down the field. All
of them are healthy, all of them are coming back.
I know you're talking about that Aggie defense and how
well they played on Saturday, Man, but the best defense
in Texas still is in Austin. And if the Longhorn
(12:08):
defense plays up to their talent, up to their capabilities,
it's gonna be.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
A long afternoon for that Florida offense.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Because Florida's offense has struggled mightily this season. And if
the Longhorns can contain the running game and make them
pass more than they want to and not be balanced,
then I think it'll be a big difference and it'll
give the long Horns a chance to pull out that victory.
Some people are saying this could be on an upset alert,
(12:39):
this could be one of those games that could go
either way. I understand that, But in the end, I
still think Texas gives themselves a shot to win in
the Swamp and they leave Gainesville with the win. You
have any thoughts on the long Horns?
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (12:59):
I do.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Man.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
You're funny man like you and I like are so
in sact sometimes. Like my question was to you, how
do you think their defense looked, you know, last weekend,
and did you see some signs that, Okay, now they're
starting to get their footing.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
And that's what I saw.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
I saw that push that we talked about in the
past that I've said, Hey, man, I don't see that
push from that defense, and I don't see that kind
of push from the O line.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
What did you see? Did you see a little bit
more of like and I know it's.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
Sammuston State and all that, but do you do you
think that this was a perfect timing type game to
kind of just boost that confidence and you know, start
moving those those bodies around on both sides of the line.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yeah, I mean the offense, I mean the defense rather
the first play of the game they get.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
A sack, So, I mean, it was it was pretty telling.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
It was pretty telling pretty quickly that that defense was
going to dominate that game, and they did so.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
Yeah, I think defensively, man, that started me.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
Go ahead, don't hate me. But where's sam State again?
I don't know where it's at.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Huntsville.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Oh, that's right, Huntsville.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
The only I don't even I mean, the only time
I ever heard Huntsville growing up is when they talked
about the prison, so I didn't even know there was
a college there. So like when I heard Hey, Sam
used to stay out of Hey, when I heard Sam
used to stay out of Huntsville, I was like, so
do they have is this like you know the mean machine?
You know, like like do they have some convicts on
(14:31):
that team?
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Like? I wasn't sure, but I mean that defense did
that defense did? Dude? They they really did play well.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
They dominated up front, they got after the quarterback, they
made some big plays. And the offensive line, dude, they
they're starting to come together. Still very young offensive line.
They only have one returning starter from last year, four
different news starters across the board.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
But they're starting to jail man.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
And that's why I say, I think them playing them
and then having that bye week to study film, to
get in the weight room, to get some rest, and
get away from football for a week, I think that's
gonna help. I think that's gonna help on a lot
of different levels. Give these guys a chance to say, Okay,
there's an expectation, there's a lot of hype about our team.
(15:20):
You know, we didn't win the game against Ohio State,
but we didn't get blown out either, you know, and
so for them to be three to one, still ranked
in the top ten, still giving themself a chance to
be in position to be there in the end to
either play for the SEC or be one of the
top teams in the SEC and get selected to the playoff.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
That's the goal. The goal is to get to the playoff.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
The goal isn't to score Brownie isn't to score Brownie points,
and isn't to me everybody you know so happy and
and you know, oh the media was right about them,
and the media is sow everything about them.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
No, that's not goal.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
The goal is to win games, put yourself in position
to be one of the top twelve teams in the
country so you have a chance to play for a
national championship at the.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
At the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
You can't have that chance if you're not amongst those
twelve teams.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
I told Cody this, I think I told you this.
I told the Brosky this. I don't need Texas to
win the SEC this year.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
What I need Texas to be is one of the
top three to four teams in the SEC, because I
think the SEC has an opportunity to get four teams,
maybe five in the playoff. So you're looking at Alabama,
you're looking at A and M. You're looking at Ole Miss,
you're looking at Tennessee, you're looking at Georgia, you're looking
(16:47):
at Texas. Any one of those six teams can make
the playoff. And so I need Texas to be in
that third or fourth position. Sure, I want them to
win the championship. Don't get me wrong. I want them
to win the SEC championship. But if they don't have
a chance to play for that, I say that's okay.
(17:08):
Let them be one of the top three teams in
the set, top three or four teams in that conference,
and that's gonna get you in the playoff. And I
think that's what Steve Sarkisian is looking at right now.
He knows they've struggled, he knows they haven't played up
to par. He knows they haven't lived up to the hype.
(17:28):
Give them a chance to get there, build on that
starting this weekend in Florida, and we'll see. I hope
next week we're talking about how great Texas played and how.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Good they looked. I hope we're not talking about them
still struggling. You know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Yeah, no, I mean, I'm with you there.
Speaker 5 (17:48):
I think that Florida came out the gates. And here's
what I hate about the rankings. You know, at the
beginning of the year, obviously you know Texas is number
one or whatever you want to say, between the top
five and all those top five teams, because you don't
even know what you have. You don't even know the
guys that you've lost are the ones that got they
took the spot of the guys that you lost are
(18:09):
gonna perform and just be It's just it's it makes
me scratch my head.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Bro.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
I'm actually looking at the SEC standings and it has
Texas eleven. But the only reason that's the case is
because they haven't played anybody in the SEC yet, you
know what I mean. So it's these numbers, there's numbers
that are arbitrary and that they don't Yes, you got
to put them out there, because there's it's a staff thing,
and it's a standings, and it's this, and it's that
you know, A and m's what one, two, three, four, five,
(18:36):
you know, but they've only played one SEC game, you know,
so again, oh miss is three and oh because they've
played you know, three SEC teams and they've won, so again,
that'll that'll sort of, you know, filter itself out, you know,
like we talked about in the past about the Tetras thing,
you know, all that it's all just jumble pieces. But
(18:58):
the SEC will shake out a lot better. I mean,
Vandy's like third, it's just it's it's it's whimsical, dude,
It's funny.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
It's just a joke.
Speaker 5 (19:06):
I think it's you know, if you were I were
sitting at a bar and we're like, hey, some guy
came up and talked shit to you about, Oh, Texas
is you know, eleventh of the SEC, you know, and
just try to get a rise out of you, and
you'd probably just laugh it off, you know what I'm saying.
You know, but I'm looking forward to Texas going into Florida.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
I'm I'm hoping that Arch and Dude, you know, I'm
not a Texas fan, right, but I like him. Dude.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
I don't know what it is I like about him.
He just he's got the hair, he's got the looks.
He's got his arm that that that.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
Mechanics of his arm.
Speaker 5 (19:40):
Though, I don't know, but I think if he gets
that correction down and he gets a little bit more
comfortability with his receivers. And like you said, that running game,
that running game once that gets going and do And
the only reason I want Texas to succeed is because
I want A and M and Texas at the end
of the year to have that, you know what I mean,
(20:01):
that clash. It's got to have splash, it's got to
have you know that, that moxie, that everything that you
want it to be. It's Thanksgiving dinner, it's you know,
it's all those things rolled into one in that weekend.
Because I mean, it's just we've missed that, bro. I
miss that, you know, I miss having that, And I
can't wait, man, I can't wait till they meet up
(20:22):
further down the road obviously, But you're right with Florida.
I think they're a paper tiger or a paper alligator
or whatever the hell you want to call them.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
They're not as good as people make them.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
Out to be. And I think winning there is. I
guess all you gotta do is just stay hydrated, man,
drink some pickle juice, and lean on your defense man,
because if it's ARTISTM, you know, not one hundred dialed in,
then you just lean on that defense that, like you said,
is one of the best in the nation, and just you.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Know, hang your hat on what what you know, what
you know, you.
Speaker 5 (20:56):
Know what you got and go out there and play hard,
play physical, you know, show them.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
You know what Texas is all about.
Speaker 5 (21:03):
And you know, I'm looking forward to that game because
I think that game is going to propel Texas back
into the you know, the rankings a little higher. And again,
it's an SEC game, so that's where this whole SEC
thing that I'm looking at makes more sense.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
And I can't wait. I mean, I can't wait for
that game.
Speaker 5 (21:23):
In him again, you talk, You and I talked from
the beginning of the season about just winning the home games.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
You know, that Notre Dame game, I chalk that up
as a loss, and.
Speaker 5 (21:32):
It almost was. But they showed me wrong, you know,
and that's what I expect. I didn't expect, but I'm
glad that they did. And I can't wait to see
what they do this weekend. And I think Marcel Reeedman
just keeps getting better and better. He gets more and
more comfortable with and that's what I noticed that last game,
even though it was a real tight game, he was
more dialed in with his with his players, playmakers. The
(21:54):
running game is started to take take effect even more.
It's still considered, it's still consistent, but I think it
could be better. And Moss is showing me a lot
and concepts young coming in and you know, Craver, I
mean again, they're they're doing what they need to. They're
they're they're staying on the win column. And last year
I'm looking at I'm looking I was looking at the
(22:15):
scores earlier. You know, three out of those those four games,
you know, were very tight games, and but they were
on the winning side of that, you know, And I
think that's what Texas does as well. You know, they're
they're in tight games, but at the end of the day,
they're still on on the winning side of that. And
that's what you want, I think for both teams.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
Yeah, I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
I think I think they have that type of mentality
now that they're going to be able to, you know,
be in those close games and find a way to win.
And that's what you want, right kind of like what
we talked about the Cowboys. You want to see your
team fight, you want to see your team have a
chance to win. It in the end, and I think
both of these programs are headed in that direction.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
You know, we touched on it a little bit.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Texas Tech Houston Big Game in Lubbock, that that's another
place at night, man, that it's gonna be hard for
Houston to go in there and get an easy win.
The Red Raiders are gonna are gonna perform at a
high level.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
They're gonna be hype, they're gonna be ready, and.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
It's gonna be very interesting to see how that plays
out under the lights there at Jones Stadium in Lubbock
for the Red Raiders and Houston Cougar's. Again, my belief
is whichever one of these teams wins this game are
pretty much in a driver's seat to have an opportunity
to make the playoff as another team from the state
(23:34):
of Texas. You got TCU in Colorado. That's another interesting
matchup Colorado. I don't know, man, I think some of
the shine is starting to wear off from old coach Prime.
Uh So we'll see what We'll see what they can do.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
Man.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
They're they're not as they're not as publicized as they
were the last couple of years, and maybe they were
too publicized, and that's why maybe we had higher expectations
for Coach Prime in this program than we should have,
because maybe they weren't as good as as they made
us think that they were, you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (24:10):
Yeah, and then I'm.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
With you there, man, go ahead, No, I want to
see a little bit about Texas Tech. I actually got
to watch the full game last weekend, and they have
a really strong running game.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
Their running game is you know, it's funny, dude. Every
time I think.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
Texas Tech, I go back to like Cliff Kingsbury, and
I just think of just them slinging the ball, almost
like a loyal Marimunt type thing, just sling the ball,
sling the ball. It wasn't like that at all. It
was a very balanced team. It was a very balanced game.
And who was it they're.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Playing utah or yeah utah whatever, yeah utah.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Yeah man.
Speaker 5 (24:44):
And they they've got a really solid running game and
they got a balanced team.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
The quarterback.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
He could he tends to make mistakes, but then he
then he autocorrects, so I don't know. But then again,
that was a really tough game because it was a
lot of hard hits. There was a lot of you know,
just injuries and there was just a lot of collisions, man,
and I was taking in the back of.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
My mind, I'm like, I'm wondering who they have to
play next, man, because they're.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
Gonna be sore. You know, they're gonna be you know,
they're gonna be banged up, and it's gonna be a
hard victory. Just not because you know the team, whoever
their opponent is. It's just they got beat.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Up pretty good. Utah came to fucking play bro They
were hitting hard.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
Yeah, and they did not make that win easy.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
And that was actually a very entertaining game.
Speaker 5 (25:33):
And we'll see what happens, man, But yeah, I'm anxious
to see who wins that one.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
And the last, I guess the last big matchup man
for Texas team this week is gonna be Baylor.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
They're they're going up.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
To Manhattan, Kansas the Little Apple to play against the
Kansas State Wildcats. Shout out to my ball, my boy, Craig.
You know, Kansas State not very good team. Baylor has
struggled recently that I could be an entertaining game or
it could be a crap tastic game and then you know,
(26:04):
be the boar the snoozer of the day, So I
don't have a lot of expectations for that game. Obviously,
i'd like to see Baylor win because they're a Texas team,
but then again, I wouldn't mind if they lost, because
then that means that my cousin is upset, and it
means my brother in law is upset, and that's always
a good thing for me, since my brother in law
doesn't root for any of my teams, and I don't
(26:25):
really root for any of his teams. So, man, big
weekend of football, and it's only gonna get better next weekend, Dude,
red River, that's gonna be big. I think A and
M plays Florida next week, so that could be another
interesting matchup. There's a lot coming up this season. You
(26:45):
still got you know, big games. A and M got
some big games down the road. Texas has some big
games down the road. I don't want to look too far.
I don't even want to look to next week. I
want to concentrate on Saturday and we'll see how things
pan out.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
You got anything else before we wrap this one up, buddy?
Speaker 5 (27:05):
Yeah, Man, I just wanted to me to mention UTSA.
You know they've got a couple of wins in a row.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
Now.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
You know, obviously they beat U, I w and UH
beat in Colorado State. I don't think that's that's no joke. No,
that's a that's a good, good, solid win. And it
looks like they're playing Temple of all of all people,
and I didn't even know Temple had a football team,
But I'm looking forward to that. And then I guess
after that they're playing Rice, you know, so that should
be a good matchup. But man, I mean, UTSA to
(27:33):
me is they're they're up and down, but I think
they're always going to be in the fight. And I mean,
I think you and I need to make that trip.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Man.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
We got to have those tailgates like we talked about
last week, and I think that would be really fun
because I mean, if we win at lose Bro, we're
gonna have.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
Some damn good eat and some good drinks and.
Speaker 5 (27:50):
You know, cold beers and you know whatever you want
to call it, dude, Grdita's probably I don't know.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Yeah, No, I think I think you're right, man.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
I think there's an opportunity there for for them to
uh to you know, get some wins under their belt.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
So next week.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Yeah, next week they have Rice at home, so right
around the time, right around the time and that they're
kicking off, Texas and Oklahoma will be wrapping up their games,
so you know, maybe we do make that trip downtown.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
I don't know, man, I'll have to let you know.
But yeah, they've got they've got a couple of winnable
games here. Man.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Temple is not has not been a good program for
a while. Uh so they'll have a chance to win
that game. Rice has always been a tough game for UTSA,
but UTSA has come out on top more times than
they have fallen.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
So that'll be interesting to see.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Hey, they have a big one in two weeks against
North Texas and Denton. North Texas is undefeated right now,
so it'll be very interesting to see. North Texas might
be another team that I don't know who they're playing
this week. Let me see if I can find their schedule.
But if if, if they get a win this week, dude,
(29:02):
they play South Florida Friday night. No, next Friday, I'm sorry,
next Friday. They're off this week. North North Texas is
off this week. South Florida next Friday night. That could
be a good matchup.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
Man.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
And again, if if North Texas is undefeated then and
UTSA going up there, that could be a big, big
game for both teams. North Texas to try to stay undefeated,
UTSA to try to continue to gain momentum. I mean,
it's it's a lot, but it's it's gonna be fun.
It's gonna be interesting to see.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
Man. So yeah, dude, there's a lot going on.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Texas State playing this weekend against Arkansas Pine Bluff. So yeah,
a lot of good matchups, a lot of good stuff
for the area schools. One school I will mention real quick,
not close, but but it's it's still a Texas team.
Ut Rio Grand Valley lost their first game this past
(29:58):
Saturday against Southern Louisiana. Uh so, the first loss of
their of their young football uh season football.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Career because they're a new program.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Uh But still a lot of good things going on
in the Valley, a lot of good football being played
down there, and uh so it'll be very interesting to see.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
How that all shakes out. So that's it, man, That's
all I got.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
You got anything else, No, Man, I just want to say,
gig the man. I can't wait for this weekend. Man,
because this season, I've not been more excited for a season,
you know, college wise, because you know, obviously you want
your team to be in the in the mix, in
the in the thick of things.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
The same thing for you with Texas. You know you
want your team in that mix, right and and.
Speaker 5 (30:47):
It's just exciting because Elko, I think has brought that
that I don't want to say it's swagger because he's
not that kind of guy, but he's he's brought that
that realistic feel of deep down in your bones, Okay,
this team is a different animal now. He's got different players.
He's got the defense playing the way they want that
I waited he wants because I saw it in full
(31:09):
display last week and I hope that continues on to
the rest of the season. The same thing for Texas, Bro,
that that defense, man is just they're formidable.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
Man.
Speaker 5 (31:19):
Yeah, and you're always going to be in the mix,
and that's you want. But you know, we gotta get Arch.
You know, we just got a archs on the same
page with his people. And like you said, man, once
that running game, that running game gets going, Bro, it's
you never know, but we'll see what happens, man, Because
it's not how you start, right, it's how you finish.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
That's it. Hey, last thing I just sent you something.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Arch's first six college starts compared to Peyton and Eli,
all three of them were five and one. Arch has
sixteen hundred and twenty three yards in six games. Peyton
had sixteen hundred and eighty two yards. Eli had sixteen
hundred and fifty seven total touchdowns. Arch has nineteen, Peyton
had thirteen, Eli had fourteen. So everybody that's pushing the
(32:05):
panic button and saying that he sucks and he's not this,
and he's not that, and he's overhyped, he's overrated, blah
blah blah. His uncle started the same way and they
ended up being Hall of famers. I'm not saying he's
gonna make the Hall of Fame. Just give the kid
a chance to play some damn football. That's all I got.
