Speaker 1 (00:45):
And we're back a fan of poll Sports, a true
tech sports podcast for the true tech sports fan. Once again,
I'm your host, Ronnie Langford. Back at it Victory. Well,
I might as well just call this victory Wednesday, because
you know that we didn't get to record on Monday,
so you might as well enjoy the win as long
as you can. So back at it on Victory Wednesday.
(01:05):
Cowboys coming off a huge come from behind late second
send it to overtime victory over one of their biggest.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Rivals, the New York Giants.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Back at it with the main man, the double Nickel,
the how should I say? I don't want to call
you Russell Wilson, but you could throw up a ball
that he could back in the day, Mark Ramiris, how
are you, my friend?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
I'm doing okay?
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Hello, Hello too and zero and yes, the South Texas
half breed, all gas, no breaks because he has all
the good takes. We are back. And also I got
to say is let's go Brandon.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Let's go Brandon, which in this case has a much
different meaning, a much happier and joyous meaning than what
that thing was actually when that phrase was actually coined
a few years ago. Go to represent some other folks
that we will not discuss on this program, but but
we will discuss Brandon Aubrey and the excitement that occurred
(02:10):
on Sunday afternoon, well and a few other things. Hey man,
I just wanted to first start with kind of get
your thoughts on what that game was on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Like I said it was, it was exciting, dude.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
They put up forty one points combined in the fourth quarter,
and I mean there were ebbs and flows, ups and
downs all the way around, all that stuff that comes
with that game.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Dude, it was exciting as hell.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
What were your thoughts on the game and Shody getting
his first win?
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Way to go shoty and let's just hurt it. Hope.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
It's the first of many. And I have a theory
as to why Russ was playing so well. I think
he was promised anal with no lu I just think, whoa.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Whoa, No, sir, No sir, no sir, no, sir, do
not go there.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Jesus, my god. I don't even know how to respond
to that. My gosh, my gosh.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Anyway, anyway, talk about the game, talk about the game.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
That's just a joke.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
I got to put it out there, Bro anyway, Wow, Man,
why in the hell in the world and the defense
that we had out there, the scheme that.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
We put out there on the field could not.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
I don't know, Bro, I'm flabbergasted as to how easily
they went up and down the field making Russ look
like he was young again. What I didn't like was
a lot of people could not drop to their knee
pads with their kneepads on fast enough to kiss his ass. Please, man,
just the cowboy secondary was just atrocious.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
God awful. What are we.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Paying you for? We're losing money, You're overpaid. Pull out
in all points bulletin like you like the phrase.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Yeah, man, I mean I agree with you, dude. That
defense was just atrocious. I'm with you, man. I don't
know what the hell they're paying those guys for other
than to show up in their uniform and make sure
they don't get fined from the NFL because their shirts
are tucked in and their their knees are their socks
are pulled up past their knees, or whatever the hell
is happening. Too many times, especially our linebackers and our
(04:40):
DB's continue to be out of place, continue to be
out of position. I understand that they don't have all
the talent on the field right now that you want
them to have because of injuries and guys being out,
but man, it has made it made that game way.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
More difficult that it should have been. It should not
have been that hard. It should not have been that
big of a task like it was.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
And I think, uh, I think we you know, if
they can improve on that defensive side, and I know
they signed your David and Clowney, I believe it was
yesterday to help that defense, I think that'll make some
that'll make some differences. But it's also one of those
things that if they don't if they don't do what
they have to do defensively, man, you're gonna put a
(05:29):
lot of pressure on Dak and that offense to have
to score a lot of points to get more wins.
And you know as well as I do. Man, we've
watched the game long enough to know offenses can only
take you so far. Offenses can only do so much
for you. You have to have the ability to make
stops in this league. And right now, man, I know
(05:50):
it's only two games, it's it's the start of the season,
and I understand, but Man, that's that's hard football to
watch on that defensive side, and and you know it's
not gonna get any.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Easier this week.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
They've got Chicago, which has some offensive weapons that could
put up some points with the Cowboys. And then, of
course the game, the game that a lot of people
will be watching, the game that'll have probably.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
The most eyes on it that that.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Week four game against the hated Packers. So I think
it's gonna be interesting to see what they do offensively. Man,
Dak looked as good as he's looked in a long time.
He looked healthy, he looked mobile, he seemed to really
be able to work the pocket, stand in there against
(06:36):
some pressure. And let's not let's not pretend like that
offensive line wasn't a badass on Sunday, Man, because they
those guys put some stuff together, kept some drives alives,
protected him well, blocked well in the running game. What
were your thoughts on Dak and the offense as they
(06:56):
got things rolling there on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
I'll just go over some of those like stats that
we've you know, I just shared a few moments ago.
I mean, here's what I don't like, Man, He threw
the ball fifty two times. Yep, fifty two. But then
think about it, I mean we were they went to overtime.
Not only did they go into overtime, but they I
mean they He'd had to throw a lot of passes.
You know, that's just it. You're gonna probably bump your
(07:22):
your attempts up when you have to play in overtime,
let alone.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
No one really scored to the final few seconds. When
we'll talk.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
About Aubrey in a minute, he had three hundred and
sixty one yards, he had two tds, and he seemed
to be You're right, as like you said earlier, man,
him and Pickens are starting to, you know, get that
connection with which is what I think.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
If they would have utilized that.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
In the Eagles game a little more, I think we'd
be they'd be sitting, you know, undefeated at this time. Also,
there's another weird statu It looks like he's beaten them
fourteen straight times. He's beat the Giants that many times consecutively,
and he I think he broke a Tom Brady record
of thirteenh consecutive win over a single opponent, which that's
(08:09):
I've never heard of anything like that. That's a crazy
stat so I just thought that was kind of unique. Now,
as far as Pickens go, I got to talk about him, man,
when he is utilized in this offense and when passes
come his way, it's weird. Man, watching him catch the ball,
it almost looks like it was made for his hands.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
He makes it look super easy if it's somewhere in
his area, in his vicinity, whether it's low, whether it's high.
I mean, he snatches it out of the ground. And
I think part of it is Dak, you know, putting
that right touch on it.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
I mean it looks, it looks.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Really really good when he and Pickens are trying to connect.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
So, God, my hat's off to him.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
He just did an awesome job, you know, making play.
He had that touchdown there at the end, which I'm
not gonna lie. Man, I thought that was it. I
thought the game was over at that point. Yeah, you know,
But man, I guess you know, Russ and the Giants
had something else to say.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Well, you know, and I agree with you, man.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
I think I think Dak and Pickens starting to develop
a camaraderie. I think that's gonna help. I think that's
gonna be a good thing. And you're right, dude. The
way that he catches the ball. The thing that I
like about him, dude, is that he catches the ball
with his hands. I know that sounds stupid. I know
that sounds crazy, but you see a lot of these
guys like they have their hands real close to their
(09:34):
body so they can bring the ball into their chest,
or they try to catch it right at their face mask,
and you know, it just sometimes it makes the catch
harder than it needs to be. But Pickens has demonstrated
in just a couple of weeks, man, that he's willing
to extend his arms. He's willing to get his hands
out in front of him and make those catches. Like
you say, that big touchdown there at the end that
(09:56):
you know, we thought maybe was going to seal the deal.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Unfortunately it didn't, but it was it was a sight
to behold, to be able to see.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
That true second receiver and and honestly, man, he could
be a number one on anybody's offense.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
I know, Dak and yeah at least.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Yeah, And I know like DAK and CD obviously have
had a longer time together, they've had a longer partnership.
But it's one of those things where you kind of
sit there and you go, Okay, this, I see what
this guy is. I see what he can do. This
is going to be something interesting, and maybe it becomes
a one A, one B type of thing with the
two of them out there. What did you think of
(10:36):
the running game, man, I think I'm like you. I
don't like the fact that Dak threw over fifty times.
I would have preferred for them to try to run
the ball a little bit more. I think I think
these two backs that we signed in the offseason have
shown that they can run the ball. Now, whether or
not you want to give him twenty to twenty five
touches a game, I don't know if that shot he's
game plan, but I think it's one of those things
(10:57):
where they may want to try to figure out a
more balance to attack, especially if your defense is going
to be giving up so many yards and so many points.
Keep the defense on the sideline, keep the ball in
your hands for longer stretches, and then maybe maybe that'll
help to control some of this stuff on.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
The other side of the ball. Your thoughts on the
running game and what the Cowboys need to do there.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
If I'm going to contique the running game.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
I have to mention that last TD, that last TD
the Pickens had, I mean, it was sucond down, dude,
and I would have run your right, they should have
run the ball a little more. Maybe they should have
you know, handed it off one more time because that
takes off a few more takes off the clock. I
don't know if they would have had to waste the
(11:41):
time out, but I mean, again, it's Shotty's call to
not run the ball at that time. I would have
because I mean, you don't have to get that touchdown
right in there. I'll take it. But I think they
could have run the ball one more time. And I
mean again, you got a hindsight twenty twenty and you
still win the game. But I think it could have
been a little bit more effective. It could have been
(12:02):
a little bit more utilized. And I'm I'm almost there
with those two guys. I just don't think they need that.
You know, they they got the you know, they got
the jabs and they're getting the body body shots, but
they need Blue in there.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Man. I hate I hate bringing that guy up. I
don't hate bringing him up.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
I just think he needs to be involved in this
offense because you need some splash plays.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
The old line is actually doing.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Really well to get those guys the yards they're they're
their solid yards. They're just not you know, eye popping.
And I think they gotta work Blue in there somehow.
I mean, what did you draft this guy for? Man,
let's see what he can do. I mean, maybe he's
just not picked up all of the offense yet. I mean,
but again, you're not. I mean, you're not a receiver
(12:49):
and you're not having to learn all these routes and
all this and that whatever. You just gotta just put
the ball in your hands and let's see what you
can do. And maybe they'll do it this week.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Again, I want to see a lip Key siding as well, you.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Know, because I like him. I want to tout him more.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
I want to see him involved in the offense because
I think they're underutilizing those two guys. And here's why.
They can both catch out of the backfield. They're both good,
you know, not only running threats, but I think there
also can catch the ball and get some yak yards.
And that's really what I want a little bit more of.
I'm not gonna you know, you know, bash the running
backs that they have now because they're doing a solid job.
(13:29):
The offense is given them holes and it's and it's working,
but I think it could work a lot better well.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
And I mean, I'll tell you, like I told the
Broski a few weeks ago when he and I were
talking about the Cowboys depth chart and and wear Blue
was on the depth chart. Part of the reason that
he's not in there, man, is because he doesn't understand
the pass protections yet. And if you're going to be
if you're going to be a running back in this league,
(13:55):
you're going to have to be able to show that
you can protect the quarterback, be able to step in
and take some blocks and take some hits against some
of these big defensive ends and linebackers that are coming
after your quarterback. And I don't I don't know that
he's quite there yet. I think there is a point
at this season that he'll be in the rotation and
they'll start to utilize him more. But I think these
(14:18):
first few weeks it's a continuation of learning the system,
understanding the pickups, understanding all the little details that come
with playing running.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Back in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
I wish it was as simple as us saying, just
put him in there, give them the ball, and let
him run.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
I wish it was that simple, you know it. I
know it.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
It's not that simple, unfortunately, but it's one of those
things that I think, you know, just be patient, be patient,
just so we can kind of see what this offense
is gonna be. We know what they have when it
comes to big plug, big time players and big time
plays that can be made.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Right.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
You got CD when he's engaged, when he's on, he
can he can do do a lot of great things.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
You got pickings coming around.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
So I think over the next few weeks you'll kind
of see some things change offensively, and maybe we'll begin
again to find an identity. I don't think they have
a true identity on offense yet. I think they really
are relying on Dak to kind of point this thing
in the right direction, which is not a bad thing.
I mean, he played really well these first two weeks.
Can the offensive line sustain what they have been doing?
(15:27):
Can Dacket sustain what he's doing? A big thing that
we haven't touched on that happened on Sunday, Man the
center bbe got an ankle injury.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
He may not play this week.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
So, you know, if we talk about it a lot
about injuries and when they occur, to me, there's no
time is a good time for an injury, especially because
your offensive line. You know, they've only started truly two
games together with those five guys. So it's one of
(15:59):
those things where we'll see what he's like, We'll see
what the reports are coming out of Dallas today to
see if he's if he practiced, or if he's gonna
play this weekend. But again, there's so many different things
that you got to look at there, especially when it
comes to pass protection and things like that.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
Hey, the one bright spot, the one bright spot.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
That has yet to fail us the last couple of
seasons has been Brandon Aubrey.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
And again, you have a name for him. I'm gonna
give you your chance to.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Call him by his name, the name that we will
be referring to him on here at fan Pole Sports.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
But he truly has stepped.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Up, man, And I don't know that there's a better
kicker in the league, and I don't know that there's
been a better kicker for the Dallas Cowboys. What are
your thoughts on Brandon Aubrey and his big performance clutch
performance on Sunday, sixty four yarder to send it to overtime,
(16:59):
forty yard to win it.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
Your thoughts, if the Queen of England was here, man,
and she had a sword and she put it on
his shoulders, she would dub him big time.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Brandon.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
That's why you had this music at the beginning of
our episode. And I just think, let's let's just put
it this way. If he was to run for mayor
of Dallas slash Fort Worth area after halftime.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
He would have won in a landslide.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
But after the game, after the game, with that walk
off kick and that win and that back and forth
up and down, no one was giving an inch. He
could have run for governor, bro you know, and sorry,
go go at it, But dude, he is the freaking man.
And here is my question for you. We both know
(17:50):
you and I know that he is a weapon. He's
a weapon now and I have.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
Been touting it and saying it, Hey.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
Guys, just kill yourself, just cross the fifty and my
man Brandon will freaking kick that ball and get you
some points. Now, what really kind of surprised me was
when he kicked that sixty four yarder.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
They the play before.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
The play before just tells you how much confidence they
have in him. Bro, And I thought, okay, so they're
just gonna try and run the.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
Ball here, let him kick it.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
And it didn't matter how many more yards they got
because technically that run really didn't produce anything. Because normally,
any other team, any other kicker, any other any kind
of other scenario, the quarterback is still trying to get a.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Few more yards. I mean, tell me I'm wrong, Dude,
tell me I'm wrong.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
No, you're right, and you know it's I mean, the
logical answer there is, yes, get a few more yards,
run off some more clock, take it down as low
as you can, call your time out, bring your kicker in, right.
But like you said, man, he's become such a weapon
that they didn't care.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
They didn't care.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
You know, they were gonna they were gonna let that
clock run or they were gonna call the time out
right then and there. That's the confidence that they had
him to say, we know this guy's gonna step into
this and he's gonna make this kick.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
You know.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
I was watching a recap of the game on YouTube
yesterday and they're on the sideline, the defensive linemen or
on the sideline, and some of the offensive guys are there,
and one of the one of the one of the
backups is walking by the bench and he's high fiving guys,
and you hear the you hear the announcer saying that
(19:40):
Brandon Aubrey is on the field or whatever, and you
hear the the players go, we're going overtime. Like he's
not even looking at the field, he's just he's walking away,
going we're going overtime. Because he already knew that that
that that kick was gonna go through.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
The goal post.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
So I would not like to tempt fate and just
be like, oh, just get it past the fifty, he's
gonna make it. I don't want to I don't want
that to happen. I don't want that.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
To be the norm.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
But I think if yeah, I think if they get
it down there about the forty five and you know
the forty yard line, you know, make it about a
forty seven to fifty two yard kick, Yeah, I think
I think it's realistic to say that this guy is
gonna get it through the goalpost, and you know he's
gonna get a big win. But I don't think it's
one of those things where you just automatically think, well,
let's get it past the fifty.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
That's that's kind of risky. What do you got man?
Speaker 4 (20:31):
I just got to say this also, Man, I mean,
I know, we both like I said, we both know
he's a weapon. But in your opinion, do you think
he's like the ultimate weapon dude with what he can do?
Speaker 5 (20:43):
No?
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Man, Because I mean, and then, don't get me wrong,
being a being a place kicker, a field goal kicker,
that that takes, that's that special ability because there's a
lot of different parts that go into that, right, Like
it's not just kicking the ball. You've got to be
able to swing, the motion, the torque, all all the
different things that go into that. But I don't know
(21:05):
that I would call him the ultimate weapon just simply
because he's a kicker and like it is a very.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
Special thing that he has to do, there's no doubt
about it.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
But his successes a lot of times are predicated by
the other guys on the team that are going to
put him in that position.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Is he a weapon? Yes? Is it good to have
it in your back pocket? Yes?
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Have you put the league on notice that because if
you look at that kick, Dude, if you see one
of those videos from the side view as it's going through,
that thing probably still could have traveled another four or
five yards, so he could have realistically kicked from the
star and made it with a little bit of spare
yardage there, you know what I mean. So that thing
(21:51):
was sixty four, he probably could have made it from
sixty five or sixty eight. That's how much power that
he had going through that ball. And I saw him
also on Pat McAfee man, and you know McAfee being
a kicker, and he's always excited when kickers do well
and punters do well. McAfee asked him about that. He's like,
(22:11):
you know what what goes into that?
Speaker 2 (22:13):
You know, he goes. If you look at the kick,
he goes.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
It didn't look clean at first, he goes, and then
all of a sudden, the ball kind of corrected itself
and it went through, And you know he said, he goes,
he goes, Yeah, he goes. If you look at if
you watch it when I'm kicking, he goes. I don't
know if it's just because it's early season or what
it is right now, he goes, But I have a
little hop that I that I'm doing before I kick,
(22:38):
he goes and I got to get that cleaned up,
you know, So he already knows that he's going to
have to make it better. And that's why I say
if they would have been back a little further, he
would have made.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
That kick regardless. You know. So is he is he
a weapon? Yes? Is he the ultimate weapon? I don't
think so.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Yet he wins a couple of more games, he puts
a few more ws in the win column, then we
may then that might be a different conversation that we have.
But I think for right now, Man, the Cowboys are
blessed to have him. Thank you to his wife because
the story goes that they were watching football one day
(23:16):
and they watched somebody kick the ball, and you know,
the announcers were bragging about this guy kicking a forty
four forty five yard field goal, and his wife turned
to him and said, you know you could do that,
right like you could do that? And he ended up
trying out for the USFL, played a couple of seasons
in Birmingham, got signed as a free agent by the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
And here we are, Man, so good to him.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
Way to go, Brandon or as we are going to
refer to you as Big Time branded or I'll just
short I'll just shorten it up and call him be.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
B TB B TB. How about that so b TV.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
I like that. I like that, dude.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
I mean I will say this, I think he could
have kicked it from seventy and I know we need
to move on to something else. But when I saw
him kick that, and then here's the weird thing. After
the games, when they interview him, he doesn't seem like like,
you know, like he's nervous about it, like it's just
to him, it's just, hey, I'm going to work, I'm
(24:18):
bringing my lunch pail. I'm gonna show you what I
can do, you know, like an electrician chows up with
his tools or a damn HVAC person shows up with
their tools. To him, he's just like, Hey, I'm showing
up with my tools. I'm doing my job. I'm gonna
get paid, you know, thank you to my wife. And dude,
there was one little snippet I saw where he's walking
into the tunnel, you know, after the game, and all
(24:39):
these all the fans there are just shouting his name, dude,
and it was just man, it gave me chills, and
I'm like, I never thought that I would be so
excited about a kicker and we're actually meant, you know,
speaking about him now.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
But would you buy his jersey now? I mean, would
you buy his jersey?
Speaker 2 (24:54):
No? No, I would not buy his jersey.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
When I buy a T shirt, yeah, probably buy a
T shirt with his name on it or like if
it had like his face or his him and his uniform.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
On it, I'd probably buy that.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
But no, I will not be sporting the latest Brandon
Aubrey Cowboys jersey.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
That is that is not for me. I will not
be buying that.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
So yeah, that's gonna be a no for me.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
And I'll just leave it at that. Hey, uh, before
we before we close.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Man, I'd hate to not talk about the fact that
the Cowboys have signed Jadavian Clowney, a big time pass
rusher out of college. Man was spectacular at times when
he was at South Carolina.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
He's had some.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
Moments in the NFL, but he's also had some injury issues.
He's bounced around the league the last few years. He
did sign officially yesterday, and he said one of the
reasons why he was intrigued to come to Dallas, was
the opportunity to play with Kenny Clark and have him
in the trend.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Man, what are.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Your thoughts on just Davi and Clowney and him being
the latest addition to the Cowboy defense and the impact
that he might have on this defense.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
I think it's perfect timing because technically this is going
to be a tune up game for him in a sense.
The defensive line, you know, they didn't get to Russ
like we wanted obviously, but I mean Russ was just
playing way above his.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
You know, his head, bro, you know. And that one.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
Drop coverage, I will say this, that last one that
he threw was just.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Damn dude, that was right there. That was right. You know,
you got two guys covering him, you know, was it
Neighbors is his name?
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (26:44):
He just.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
And I mean that was just a good connection. I mean,
what can you do, man, You're just gonna tip your
hat to that. But the you know, the linebackers you
talked about the guys need to come back.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
I didn't overshow me to just get back, bro. I mean,
I don't know when he's coming back.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
It's it kills me every week he's not in there
because I can remember. Like I said, it's been a
long time since we talked about him. He was flying around,
he was just making tackles. He could do everything. He
could cover people, he could he could make tackles, you know,
on the open field. I mean, he was doing so
many little things that you just you know, you put
the hey, you.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Know, check check check check.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
That's the kind of guy you need on on the
field because he can kind of play two positions. It
can be a linebacker, I think, and he can also be,
you know, somebody in the secondary and cover some of
these guys, you know, so that way that.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Someone like a Russ.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
I mean literally Russell Wilson you know, had dude, I
want to say he had like four hundred and maybe
five hundred yards.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
I don't even know. I'm trying to look at the
stats here.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
Yeah, that's it. That's just that's ridiculous. That's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Yeah. Well, no, I agree, and I agree with you, man.
I think you're right.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
I think that that Russ being back there, and I
mean basically, dude, he just he was just throwing it up.
There was some plays, dude, where he just threw it
up there and was like, I hope somebody's down there.
I mean, there's no way that anybody could tell me,
Oh that was that was skill.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
That was you know, vintage Russell Wilson. Man, shut up.
He just chucked it.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
He just chucked it up like we used to on
Salina Street and hopefully one.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Of us came down with it.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
And that's what it was, dude, So shut the hell
up with the Russ was great. Russ was two thousand
and nine Russ blah blah blah bs because that's all
it was, dude. I'm not taking anything away from what
Russ did. He had a great game. He played very
well against this mediocre defense right now. And you know,
it's one of those things that, like we've always said, dude,
(28:32):
the sun shines on a dog's ass at some point
of the day.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
So Sunday was Russ's day for that sun to shine
on his ass. Okay.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
So, but it's it's one of those things that because
the Cowboys don't have all of their weapons on the
defensive side, that quarterbacks can have those.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
Kind of gags. I guarantee you man.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
The Bears are sitting there with Caleb Williams and his
painted nails and his pink phone cases and all the
other bullshit that comes with him. And I'm sure they're
excited about what they might be able to do on
Sunday against the Cowboys because they know, like we know,
there's people missing, there's people that are not gonna be
there on Sunday in that lineup.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
So they just got to do the best that they can.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
They just got to go about it the best way
they can to try to just keep things, you know,
in play, have a chance to win the game late.
Let Dak and the offense do what they do, Let
Aubrey get on the field and do what he does,
and then I think things will be fine. But you know,
over shown not being there has been huge, it's been
(29:37):
a big weakness. You know, he's he's been missed because,
like you said, man, he can cover the tight ends,
he can cover the running backs, he can cover you know,
anything and everybody on that field because he's so fast
and he's so gifted athletically. But part of him being
out is the fact that he blew out multiple ligaments
(29:59):
in that knee.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
So we may not see him until.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
At the earliest the middle of October. So the Cowboys
are just gonna have to hold on to it as
long as they can without him, and hopefully make some
adjustments in between. And these other guys will get a
chance to be on the field and you know, do
some things and improve some things. But yeah, man, shout
out to Shadi, Shout out to Brandon, shout out to Dak.
(30:26):
You know, all those guys did well on Sunday. I'm
happy for Shady. I'm happy he got his first win.
Like you, I hope it's one of many. But yeah,
they definitely need to build off of this. They definitely
need to continue to go along with this momentum, man,
and hopefully pick up another win on Sunday at three
twenty five. Your thoughts as we get ready to wrap
(30:47):
this up, man, Your final thoughts on this week and
where the Cowboys are headed.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
I didn't finish my take on Clowney, And here's what
I'm gonna say, man, I think it's a perfect time
because of it.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Like I said, will be.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
A tune up game for him to just be ready
for that Green Bay game. And I'm sure they're gonna
probably limit his you know, snaps. I'm sure they're gonna
do what they can, but I mean again, I don't
know what they're doing practice wise.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
I don't know what.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
They're checking his speed, his endurance, his whatever. The good
thing that the good things that I have seen about
him are his interviews where he says he's got two trainers,
not one. He's got two trainers that have kept him
in shape, have kept him in and I don't want
to say it's game shape because I don't know. We'll see,
but if he's one more guy that's in that quarterback's
(31:36):
head that you have to account for, that's that's a
good thing, you know. And maybe him being in there
can can you know, boost the other guys on the line.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Uh, he might take up a couple of.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Blocks and then those other guys can can get home.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
We'll see.
Speaker 4 (31:55):
Man, let's go Brandon, take that that ship you know
to Chicago, go back home to Green Bay, and let's
get another w man. And like you said, we'll just
call this w Wednesday. What did you call this today? Wednesday?
Speaker 2 (32:09):
Victory victory Wednsday victory Wednesday? Yeah? Yeah, Well, like I said, dude, anytime.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
That's it, Well, anytime your team gets a win, dude,
like you can hold onto that till the next game.
So you know, we could we could record tomorrow and
I would have said victory Thursday, you know what I mean.
So yeah, man, I agree with you. I think it's
going to be interesting to see what kind of shape
he's in. Obviously he won't.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
Be in game shape.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
I mean, no one is going to sit here and
fool themselves into believing that this guy is going to
be in any kind of game shape and be able
to be out there and play like forty or fifty
snaps right off the bat. I think he'll be used situationally.
I think he'll be used to try to, like you said,
have one more person chasing that quarterback and and get
in the quarterback's head. And I think it'll be an
(32:54):
impactful Maybe he'll have a few impactful plays. Not saying
that he's going to cause a turnover, but maybe he does,
you know. No, So yeah, I'm excited, dude. Like I said,
he's not clowny from five years ago. But I still
think he's got some gas in the tank. I still
think there's some opportunities there for the Cowboys. If he
has a relationship with Kenny Clark, like he says, maybe
(33:15):
that helps, Maybe that helps and then once we start
getting some of these guys back, you know, Bland Overshown
and you know, just various people get them back, then
maybe we'll be okay. Plus you said it earlier too, man,
Jerry's at least making some sort of moves. Like we
may not understand them all, we may not agree with
them all, but he's at least making.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Some moves, dude.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
So if I'm a Cowboys fan, which I am, I'm
not saying that I'm excited about what Jerry's doing right now,
but at least at least he's not just sitting back
and saying, well, I'm going to see how this goes.
He's at least making the effort to try to improve
this team and give himself a chance during this season, man,
because you know, like we talked about, dude, it's been
(33:56):
thirty years, bro, thirty damn years, and you know it's
it we wanted, the fans probably wanted more, but I
know Jerry probably wants to be able to be back
in that.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Super Bowl as well. Man.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
So we'll have to see you got anything else before
we wrap it up.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
Yeah, you're right, man, those the fans, you me, we
deserved it, man, we deserved it that they make these moves.
And I want to say, and I want to say,
I think that you know, Schottenheimer has Jerry's ear, and
I think he's saying, hey, get me this guy, give
me that guy.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
I mean, it tells me that and and only that.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
On that on that interview, he said that he and
Schottenheimer had crossed paths, so you know, that's that's a
relationship that he knows Shoddy and Shoty knows him, and
he made it that much of a you don't know
how much of an impact that that makes on a
player to say, oh, yeah, you know, I like the
way he thinks, I like the way he coaches or whatever.
(34:56):
And I think that little nugget of connection there was
a great move because he knows I'm sure like Seattenheimer
and I'm sure every coach in the back of their
mind says, man, I wish I had this player, I
wish I had that player, you know, and you know
you can't have them all, but when you build relationships
throughout the NFL, I think, and that's kind of what
(35:17):
Connie was saying. You know, yeah, I know him, you know,
and you know we had we had a brief stint together.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
And and I'm glad to be playing for him.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
And that's another thing, you know, He's he's just excited
to play for shot Nimer. And that's the last thing
I'm going to say about that. But let's see how
it pans out.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Man.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
I can't wait for that Chicago game. Uh, Man, I want.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
They really need to, you know, just be above five
hundred and I'll be happy.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Well, the last thing I'm gonna say is, I I
hate to say it, man, but Shoddy is one of
Jerry's guys. And you know, the last couple of guys
that were Jerry's guys, it didn't work out so well
for us. But we'll see, man, I'll give him the
benefit of the doubt. I'll give them the opportunity and
(36:03):
we'll see. Hey before we go, Dude, it sounds.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Like World War three across the road here.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
I'm outside of my outside of my house, and it
sounds like there's a war going on across over here.
It's dove season everybody. So my neighbor and his friends
and his family are out here having some fun shooting
some guns, you know, and forcing their Second Amendment and
taking care of their business. Walking around, probably with their
guns and making some noise. So hopefully they'll get some
(36:32):
good some good eating over there. They can have some
quail or dove or whatever the hell they're they're hunting.
So if you hear all the popping in the background,
that's what that is. No, I'm not back on the
West Side in the hood growing up. That's that's not
the firepower that you hear in the back. It is
something completely different. I believe me that that what's happening
(36:52):
across the street from me now is legal. What was
happening in my old neighborhood back in the day illegal,
So that that's the difference.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Anyways, thanks for thanks, thanks for thanks for joining me.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Man, you're the Courts Bros.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
Yeah yeah, dude, we're not on the East Side. We're not.
We're not downtown. Yeah yeah, we're not.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
It's believe me, it's legit. It's legitimate across the street
from where I am now.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
But anyways, Fan.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
Pole Sports a true tex sports podcast for the true
text sports fan. Once again, it has been Ronnie, that's
Mark and we're out Peece Peace, go.
Speaker 5 (37:31):

Speaker 6 (37:51):

the Star. We're living the dream, Texas Proud.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
We're America's team with a cow boy.
Speaker 6 (38:01):
So come on, everybody, how do you see. Stand up
now and stalk your feet. Let's raise the room, make
a little noise. Here come the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
So
