Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to this week at Filling a program for education
and celebration of what's happening throughout Filling Homes.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
I'm Tina Parsons.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
This week we have celebrated National Volunteer Week. It was
from April twentieth until April twenty sixth. This is a
time to recognize and thank volunteers for their contributions. And
who better to be talking to than Sarah Jackson.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Hi, Sarah, Hi, Tina, thanks for having me back.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Absolutely, I'm so glad that you're in here chatting with me.
We have some great volunteers and through your position as
recreation coordinator and volunteer coordinator, you are close with a
lot of them, with most of them.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Yes, at Filling Home, we have about seven or eight
volunteers that come in on a weekly to monthly basis.
Their duties here range from helping in the laundry, They
help with special events, fundraisers. They some might come in
and read to the residents, help with the gardening program,

(00:59):
especially now that it's getting warmer out.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
We have one of our male.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Volunteers that definitely loves doing that with the residents.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
So there are a lot of different opportunities for people
that want to volunteer, and through Facebook this week we
have quite a few posts out there with several of
our volunteers and a lot of them are retired from
Filling Home and they come back.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Yes, that's been I think a great testament to Filling
Home and the family connection that we have, not just
amongst us as coworkers, but that former staff continues to
want to have relationships with our residents because they are
so awesome and hard to leave when someone does retire.
So it is a great thing to see for sure

(01:46):
when we have retirees that still want to be somehow connected.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
To Filling Home.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
So anybody interested in volunteering, it's not necessarily only coming
to our base facility. There's volunteer opportunities throughout any of
our day apps probably or even Storing Arts has volunteers.
If somebody listening right now is thinking, you know, that
is on my heart. I think I would like to
give some of my time to Filling Homes. What do
they do? Do they contact you directly?

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Yes, that would be greatly appreciated. To contact me at
Filling Home again.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
My name is Sarah Jackson. You can call Filling Home.
My extension is one, three, five zero. It's easy to
get a hold of me and leave a message and
then we would have you come in and meet with
me and kind of go over a short application process
and we would find out what you're interested in where
you might be.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
A good fit.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
It could be from some of the job duties we
mentioned already to even being outside picking weeds, keeping the grounds,
you know, clean of like I said, weeds and trash,
cleaning windows, I mean basic tasks that really mean a
lot to us and help us out.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
You mentioned cleaning the windows and cleaning up the grounds
we have. The Church of the Nazarine had come out
not too long ago for service Sunday, and that was
a good group of people that were able to come
and do just that. But it doesn't have to be
a church organization. It can be anybody that's interested in
giving their time.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
That's correct. And some people though do help through their churches.
Through being a member of the Filling Home Guild. The
guild is responsible for many of our annual fundraisers like
the Fall Fling. In that case, you can get hold
of me at Filling Home and I can connect you
to the right person. But anything you feel called to

(03:34):
do you know, get a hold of us, because we'd
love to find a.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Spot for you here.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
It's really what's on your heart. You could come in
and you could read, you could go for a walk,
to spend one on one time with the residents, or
even if you're more of a clerical person. We have
volunteers that commit and help scan.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah, that definitely is helpful to our Human resource department
and our Health Information Management department to keep things up
to date in our system so that we can get
rid of that paper trail.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
I guess Philly.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Holmes is truly blessed by the volunteers. And it's not
only people from the community. Our staff really give a
lot of their free time. Some people work throughout the day,
then they'll come back in the evening for an event.
They'll bring their children, they'll bring their parents.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Recently this year we had our annual Valentie Dance, and
because it is such a fun event full of music
and dancing and lots of smiles, they want to come
back and enjoy that with the residents that they care for,
and they often bring their kids, like you said, because
they want their kids to see this is who I

(04:43):
have the honor of getting to spend my days with
when I'm not home with you.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
So yes, we are, like you said, definitely blessed by
very giving staff and former staff. I mean, the giving
just keeps on going.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
It comes from church organizations, it comes from businesses, it
comes from just community individuals. The love that our community
has for Filling Homes and our residents never goes unnoticed.
And the volunteers, the hard work that they do, their
time that they give, that surely never goes unnoticed. So again,

(05:22):
we're celebrating National Volunteer Appreciation Week and we are so
thankful for all of our volunteers. Anybody listening, if it's
on your heart this you want to give a little
bit of your time or either a monetary donation, Sarah,
can you tell them how they can get in touch
with you?

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Yes, they can call Filling Home at four one nine
five ninety two six four five one and my extension
is one three five zero, or I can be reached
by email if you're more comfortable doing that at s
Jackson at Fillinghome dot org.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Sarah, you have worked at Filling Homes for how long? Now?

Speaker 2 (05:57):
In May it'll be seventeen years eighteen years, so you
have a.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Lot of experience, not only with recreation but with volunteers.
You've probably seen a lot of different people come through
and giving of their time. Do you have anything on
your heart that you want to say about those volunteers
throughout the throughout time that have come in.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Well, definitely that a lot of what we do at
Filling Home could not be done without them. They may feel, oh,
I only helpful laundry, or I only sit with someone
and read, but that really takes the burden off of
maybe an overwork staff person that day, maybe they're having
difficulty with another resident, So having someone come in and

(06:39):
sit with one of the other residents under their care
for the day, it's, you know, a big relief and
a big help to us. So no task is too small,
no gift of your time is too small.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
We're very appreciative of any of that.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
That's great, well, Sarah, thank you so much for joining me.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Thanks Tina, and have a happy weekend everybody.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
If you would like more information on how to become
a volunteer at Fillingcom, like Sarah said, give us a
call and contact her. You can check us out on
our website.

Speaker 2 (07:08):

things that we do. Thanks for tuning in.
