Speaker 1 (00:24):
Happy Monday, everybody. Welcome to another edition of Fire Up Florida,
My Fire Up. Sure I have a voice at least
the beginning. We'll see if I have it at the end,
but anyways, please be joined with my colleagues. George Iiicorn,
welcome back to the Big Show.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
All right, good to be here, thank you.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
And last but not least, my designated co host, Rod
Peter said, welcome back to the show, Big Rod.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Good to see if Scott.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Good to be here, and this business is good to
be anywhere, right, George, Right, all.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Right, Well, Joshua Dorin blows twenty two. They've been waiting
a long time and these guys eyes is probably a
little bit of an eternity. We'll let everybody you know
what we're talking about. We're gonna be talking about what
the title says, of the Tampa Bay Lightning for sale.
We're gonna talk about a trade that we're going to
revisit between the La Kingsey Edmonton Oilers, and then we're
going to talk about the ongoing saga about professional hockey
(01:15):
in Arizona. But this time I'm not talking Phoenix. And
will you even give a shout out to the Little
League Champs from Lake Mary, Florida at the very end
of the broadcast. So if that said, okay, let's talk
about an organization that I don't like because I wrote
for the competitor O day and they took my paper
that you know, which was a Tampa Tribune and it's
(01:37):
out of business. Nevertheless, I have to talk about it
because that's what the business is. I have to get reluctantly.
But the Tampa Bay Times reported on August thirteenth that
the Lightning owner, Jeff Bennick, is working to sell his
majority stake in the team. The franchise value is listed
at two billion dollars. Once the sale is completed, Vinnick
(01:57):
is expected to retain full operational contry. Well, what's a
significant stake in the ownership group? A great deal for Jeff,
He's aren't a all right? Well, the man that broke
the news is Rob Peterson. Tell me more about it.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Well, Tampa Times broke it. I just repeated it. I
don't want yeah, I don't want to take credit for that.
But it was really big news in the summertime here.
Not very often do NHL teams come up for sale, guys,
as you probably know, and that I think the biggest
thing out of that whole story, Well, two is that
Jeff Vinnick no longer wants to own the Tampa Bay Lightning,
and two that it's worth two billion dollars. I'd have
(02:32):
to dig up what he paid for that franchise. Wait, okay,
but all I can say is it's a great deal
for Jeff. It's the colbum that I wrote in the
South Florida Tribune that he has earned this opportunity if
that's what he wants, and he's still going to maintain
full operational control.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
I think that's the deal that we all want in life.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Sell our company, but continue to work for it, right,
And I know a lot of people that have worked
for him and they love him, So I think it's
a good deal for anybody that everybody all around.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Before we go to George, let's talk about let's look
at long We've got more comments. Walter Mitchell finally got
my message for you for a new video.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
All right, very good, Walter. Great to hear that. Nashua A.
Door last week was discussing the cup made its way
to Milwaukee. It's worth nobody South Florida Tribute fire up
to cup his return and made his way through South
Florida this past week, and of course it gets around,
so he says, it was in Deerfield, be today, in
Boca and Fort lad all over the weekend. All right,
good to know, Josh, George. Let's talk about what's going
(03:30):
on in Tampa Bay with mister Benneck.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
Yeah, that's interesting because you know, there's a lot of
a lot of good hockey people out there, and in
a way, if if his heart's not in it, or
or he could be facing some financial dealings that he
wants to, you know, get get get rid of a
hockey part of it, if you will. I mean, I
(03:54):
know that's been a great franchise. Let's just be honest.
I mean, come on, the last decade has been really
really good. But even beyond that one, Scott and I
a new a fellow named Bill Davidson that owned the
Tapa Bay Lightning way back in the day, and he
brought a cup there. But anyways, back to Jeff Vinnick,
I mean, you know, we don't know what goes on
in the minds of a lot of people in the
(04:15):
hockey world, and like you said, there are not that
many that come to light very often as far as
wanting to sell, sell their share or sell the entire team.
That's not something that happens every day, as we know
in professional sports, because these teams make amend. These teams
are moneymakers for the most part. You know, you got
(04:36):
to have good people managing, good general manager, good president,
base of hockey operations, you know. But if in a
sports group doesn't want to be part of it, I'm
sure there'll be some very interested parties that would want
to step in because that is a great franchise there.
And yes, I do rate them above the Panthers.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, the bottom line is art to make a really
really good point, and for a lot of folk that
you know didn't follow the Lightning back then, Bill Davidson
did go ahead and buy the Tampa Bay Lightning, and
I think he's the first owner if I remember correctly,
correct me if I'm wrong, that won a championship in
two separate sports. I believe he ended up we all
(05:16):
know what he did with the Detroit Pistons, the bad Boys,
but then he took his ended up winning it with
the Lightning. So that's an excellent point. So once upon
a time, former Detroit Pistons owner. Bill Davidson owned the
Lightning and obviously he's done a marvelous job with the Pistons.
Good point, George, I really liked that one. So in
terms of you know, the Lightning are always going to
(05:37):
be fine because it's Steve Eiserman who ended up building it,
and now he returned to Detroit trying to work the
same success there. So you know, there's a lot of
interesting moving parts. But yeah, like Rod said, the reality
of the situation is is this, Okay, what businessman wouldn't
mind selling the franchise and get the work r it?
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Come on, seriously, that's the dream we all want.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
Which, by the way, I also think Bill Davidson owned
a Canadian Football League team. You'd have to look that up,
but I think he did in the nineties and I
worked twenty years in the CFL. That's why the name
stuck with me. But we're in the half bring up
before we go off the air night. I've spent my
last weekend in Canada and a lot of guys know
that I'm working the South Florida Tribune up here hockey guys,
(06:22):
But there's a lot of Detroit fans, you gentlemen, I said,
watch out for the Red Wings this year, and you
all been saying that for five years. So I said,
until you guys get back, I'm not going to even
have him in the playoffs yet. I just wanted to
throw that out George. Wings fans, they have a lot
to say.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
Well, you know, the people are optimistic, and I know
that's another subject for another show.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Yeah, I apologize. I don't know why, but no, no, noize.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
The bottom line is here the situation. I want to
see it to believe it. So bottom line is I'm
not picking him to get in or out. I just
want to see it. There aren't many packages I re knew,
but the NHL take it is definitely one of them,
and I do get it as well. Let's go back
to the chat room. Okay, we'll see if we can
go ahead and make some sense. Yeah, three sports, Scott,
(07:10):
there you go. Where's the correction at Okay, I think
we've got what Brooks are. We're getting some updates about
where the cup has gone. Let's keep it going, Candy, Yeah,
that's true. He did win one with the Detroit Shock,
so there you go. Get Himlet's do good stuff. Walter.
Appreciate you bringing that in there. I think a lot
of time people back then don't get the WNBA credit
(07:34):
as they do now because that's all that's going on.
But once upon a time there was a Detroit Shock.
Excellent point. Well that said, you know, let's talk about
a trade that's being revisited. August ninth, nineteen eighty eight.
And then after that we go to a station break
the only the Los Angeles Kings. Okay, receive Wayne Gritsky,
(07:54):
Marty McSorley, Mike Crucialnisky once again. August ninth, nineteen eighty eight,
Edmonton Jimmy Carson, Martin Jellenis nineteen eighty nine, first round picked,
Jason Miller nineteen ninety one, first round pick, Martin Russiski
nineteen ninety three, first round pick, Nick Jujar all Right,
I hope I needn't do too man. All right, so
(08:16):
here's the question that I would what that was, e
Ronald than In fact, I did a pretty good job
of butchering that name, although that wasn't easy. So I'll
give myself a mulligan. Who got the best of that trade?
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Rod, it's uh, just Nick Stajduhar, you did pretty good.
Don't expect interesting that you would bring that up because
the uh, we just passed the anniversary the thirty I'm
really bad at math, but the anniversary was August ninth,
nineteen eighty eight. And off the top of this show,
(08:47):
when you said we're going to revisit a trade between
the Oilers and the Kings, I'm like, well, there's only
one that matters. Is the biggest trade in.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
The history of hockey. And I just hurt this recently.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
I don't know. I would love to get you guys opinion.
Somebody said to me, if you want to know who
won a trade, it's the team that got the best player.
I'm not sure I really agree with that. It was
the first I heard of it, but I'm like, I
can kind of go along with that. The Olders would
win a Stanley Cup two years later despite the partying
(09:17):
with Gretzky.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
But it changed the game of hockey forever in two ways.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
One it grew hockey in America, which Canadians have a
problem with. And two, what that did was approved. Anybody
can be traded any spell. There are no untouchables, So
I would say that I would say the Kings won
the trade, or do still think they did? And Walter
with a good comment, the NHL won it, and don't
ask me. Why listen when you ring my West Arena,
(09:43):
don't ask her about the trade?
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Okay, and you want to fight. She calls it the
worst day of her life.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Yeah, all right, Walter, just a little fi coming from
the man here. Okay, the trade to put hockey as
a mass communication sports nationwide in America. That's a good point.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
I like that comment.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
D Low's fun fact close. D Low's brother played okay
hockey with Martin Joan has On. Okay, I like that one. Ron.
Did you catch a picture of the fresh ice in Sunrise?
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
You said the new I in the rink, So yeah,
I saw the picture, and I saw that the cup
was at the Covender Field, which is at my second home.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
So I'm not happy that I missed it.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
It was at the War Memorial on the weekend, or yeah,
on the weekend with dimitriy Kokoff.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
So yeah, it's making its way up. I'm bound. I'm
hoping to run into it somewhere around town.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
But to answer your question, the Kings won the trade
because they got the best player.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Well, you know, that's a good question. That's why I
brought this topic in because I knew it was going
to be a lightning rod. Okay, and yes there's a
fun intended lightning rod that sound. Look, can I tell
you also, Jeff Chitterrin was my coach, all right, George?
Who won the trade?
Speaker 5 (10:53):
Well, I'd have to say Los Angeles, Yeah, I mean
the whole thing is that, you know, they had a
team since what was that expansion year sixty six?
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Sixty six?
Speaker 5 (11:06):
Okay, so then you're telling me that how many years
twenty two years later they got their hands on Gretzky.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
I mean I'm doing.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
All I'm saying is that is a long time to
wait to give that to the American West Coast teams
to try to make it and make it better.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
But they had. It was a gutsy move. Let's face it.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
It was a very gutsy move, not only for Wayne,
but it was for both teams as well.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Island, I mean Island.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
Oiler's got so much in return, you know, and the
fact that they did win a Stanley Cup with the
new players. Gretzky never won a Stanley Cup in Los Angeles, Okay,
it never happened. He didn't win one, and Phoenix That's
another story for another day. But I'm just saying I
see where you're going with this one, though, Guys. To
pump up the American audience, to pump up the intercontinental lore,
(11:55):
if you will, of ice hockey, professional hockey in America,
that trade hand had to be made, I mean that trade,
and Wayne went along with it.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
But it did shake up.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
It did shake up the Canadian audience, I'm sure, because
you know that was their boy, oh, just like Gordy
Howe was.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
But he played in Detroit. But I mean Gretzky played
in Canada. You know, he played in it.
Speaker 5 (12:15):
It's in all those great years and all those great teams.
They had to be a blow them. Am I not
mistaken right to see him?
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (12:22):
But the underplying took No. No, they still talk about it,
my friend. We're at a point now when the adversary
passed on August ninth, nobody talks about it anymore. It's
not that they forgot, it's that it still hurts that
too much thirty some odd yearsver it is. But I
want to see what people don't understand. And I think
it was brought up in the King's Ransom documentary The
(12:43):
thirty for thirty about this trade. Peter Parklinton, the owner
needed money. Nobody you just mentioned all the players and
picks that went back and forth. There was a lot
of cash too, and that's why the trade was made.
Peter Pocklington was teetering on bankruptcy and needed the money.
And that's why I can't even tell you because I
get arrested what people have said about Parklinton oiler fans.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Okay, yeah, I'm going to say something with Walter Mitchell
brought up that probably validates both your points. Well, they
of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Let's go ahead and put
that one back up their candy. Anaheim Mighty Ducks, the Sharks,
go ahead, put the teams that were involved. Oh that's
one of them decimated in hockey word. Okay, there you go,
(13:25):
the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and Sharks on the Florida teams.
That's how much it's brought in here. I'll tell you what.
I'm gonna go a different way than you guys. Okay ready,
I'm going to say the end of ten oilers won
this train. I'm going to tell you why you went
to Stanley Cup with out Wayne Grisky and you get
all that cash, can't make out that bad out there.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
You really.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Getting all this money and he's winning against Stanley Cup
with Jimney Carson. Nothing to get Jimmy Carson was it?
But let me ask you, wasn't Mark Messier's still on
that team.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Yeah, yeah, I'll tell you yeah, because Messier won with
the Orders and one with Rangers. But yeah, Well, here's
the thing. The Orders fans don't give Rats hockey in America,
So to say that it was great for the NHL,
they don't care about that. I could it literally broke
(14:12):
their heart to say goodbye to Wayne for all the
reasons that George said. So, I'm you haven't convinced me, Scott,
but good try. I'm still saying the Kings won the trade.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Well, you know, Rod, it's not my job to convince
you anyway, because you haven't opinion and I have one.
And so they both And.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
You mentioned mentioned his wife, Janet, who I see at
the games in Sunrise all the time because they live
in West Palm. She was being referred to as Yoko
Ono at the time. And you need to be of
a certain vintage to get the reference. You know, the
lay Well you guys convinced let him leave the Beatles.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Uh, DoD Potter, my mind.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Is not my job to convince you haven't opinion. Everybody
loves your opinion. Anyway, Look at the chat room. You
think I brought this much attention to the ten room. No,
you did, because all these people are craignant for a
hockey show, and now I gave it to them, man,
and I gave them a Wayne Gretzky commentators.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
And you mean, what the hell?
Speaker 4 (15:13):
I question for the group who got to see Wayne, Well,
first of all, I appreciate being part of this. In
the very first NHL game was ninety eighty four in
the Inmton, Northlndes Coliseum. My dad took his three boys.
I was the youngest three boys to watch it. Greg
Millan was in goal for the Blues and the Mots
in goal for the Orders. And I was upset that
Grant Fear didn't start for Edmonton and Wayne Gretzky played
(15:35):
from the red line forward. He did not come back.
And my brother, older brother said to me, if Gretzky
played for me, I he played, d I said, you would.
We haven't took it for three years. We just don't
get along on things. But Gretzky was in the first
game I ever saw in nineteen eighty.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Very good, good stuff, very good. All right, So let's
keep going up here. I want to see if I
talk my way through missing. I want to make sure
we acknowledge everybody the ride when you get to get
Scott potentials of the home games this year. Okay, I
know they keep asking all that.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
I'm worried about me. Let alone.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
You have no worry about me. You know, I'd rather
Rod get him because, uh, you know, if he gets them.
I'm okay if I get in there, well, it's what
you call that song searching for a miracle. And I'm
not worried because I have no shortage of places to go.
So it's okay. As long as Rod gets in, I'm okay.
I'll take the cover. But I appreciate the end of that.
But you know, the reality situations is, look at this,
(16:30):
I'm seeing double, triple, quadruple. It doesn't matter at any rate.
I think we're I know we're due for a station break. Okay,
and you know who that is?
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Scott?
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Wait? Want all right? And enemy Terry put that one
back up. Scott. He won the companies and enemy tear
in Edmonton's are killing me. Sometimes the best movie is
that the move. Perception Wise it might be right. Bottom
line is the oiland's got a coup and they haven't
gotten one for a while. Under panthers do all right. Now,
(17:02):
We'll bring on Dandy for the station break.
Speaker 6 (17:07):

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Okay, you know what, Josh Door disrespect anyone else on
this channel, but Rod is not ranking broadcasts around this channel,
you know, And I have no problem with that. Hey, listen,
reality is is Rod and I were able to find
one another on social media and he's on this channel
and I only bring on winners, So you know what,
I have no problem with that. If you feel like
you're happy with him, I know I'm happy with them. Anyways.
(19:02):
It is what it is, all right, Scott. He wrote
a book. Yeah that's people didn't know that by now.
And Dee Loo's as a programming down Monday we talked
hockey in baseball and Tuesday were this guy Gelo's he
knows our schedule. He got all right with that, said,
do you think we're done with the Arizona Coyotes. Yet
we think we're done with hockey in Arizona. No, but
(19:23):
after tonight we will be okay, because because I'm sick
and tired of it, but I still have some unfinished
business talk about there. Alex Morello will be wrote relocating
that those tussion Roadrunners a Reno, Nevada and twenty six
twenty seven, George, I courts some thoughts about the road
Runners going to Reno and don't and by the way,
(19:44):
Lake Tahoe's not far. And for those of you want
to know about the Olympics, what it was that uh
let's see, I'm trying to remember. Was at Squaw Valley.
I think it was well, yeah, right, okay, George, we're
talking about Alex Morello's last act in Arizona headed to Nevada.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
I don't know. I just think it's crazy.
Speaker 5 (20:03):
I mean, you know, so in other words, he thinks
he's going to have better obviously attendance and better coverage
and better this and better that. I mean, I know,
it's a growing state, let's face it. I mean, Nevada
has really really got on the sports map, as we
all know, in the last ten years or less with
the expansion teams, with the new beautiful stadiums and arenas
(20:25):
they built. But boy, oh boy, you talk about Reno
Reno Nevada. Rena is not close to Las Vegas, but
it will be a natural rival. I mean, you know,
if you play a team in another part of the state.
But all I'm saying is that this is not the NHL.
This is a minor league team, correct, Yeah, yeah, So
(20:46):
my question would be is what is their reason?
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Why did they want to leave Tucson.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
Probably because they've run that into the ground, just like
they did the Coyotes.
Speaker 5 (20:59):
Yeah yeah, potential audience Nope.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
No, they've burnt the market. And two things out of that.
Number one, I had a kid come up to me
this morning, again I mean Canada. He said he's a
Coyotes fan. He goes, I heard you guys talk about
the u NH team. I'm a Coyotes fan. And how
were you a Coyotes fan? Well, they went to the
West Final in twenty twelve and I've been a fan
of theirs ever since. He goes, Now, I'm a Utah fan.
(21:22):
But they're referring to the Utah NHL team in Canada. Anyways,
I've heard it in a couple of weeks is the
Utah Coyotes because they don't have a name yet, which
I feel they've screwed that up. They're not going to
have a name this season. They're going to call them
the Utah Hockey Club, and I think that's a major
whiff by them to not name the team.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Somebody said they didn't have enough time. I'm like you,
you had enough time.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
In my mind, I think they did chill.
Speaker 5 (21:47):
But I think one of the reasons could be maybe
they're going to save that Coyotes name if they get
another team.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
And then they'll be called the Cold Well.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
No, you know, I don't know. Georgia. I'm way off
base with you on that one.
Speaker 5 (21:58):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
First of all, I'm joining Rodney on this one. Okay, Rod,
Rob whatever you can called Rod Rodney. Here's the deal. Okay,
Number one, Rod, You're right, Arizona's been burnt to the ground. Okay,
the only they really have, I mean, they were burnt
to the ground. All you had left with Tucson two
sounds a great area. But they don't want nothing to
do with Arizona period. Okay. Now, I mean that's all
(22:22):
there is to it. Item number one, Item number two,
don't sell Reno short, and I mean don't do it.
The University of Nevada is up in Reno, the wolf Pack,
and you know who coaches that basketball team, Steve Alford. Okay,
they really do. And college football University of Nevada wolf
Pack against you n LV. So there won't be a
(22:45):
hockey rivalry in the state of Nevada of anything. Maybe
the best case scenario down the road and Rod correct
me if you if you or if you disagree, I'm okay.
Who's the same down the road if Morello is not
the owner. And that's the key is that the Vegas
Golden Knights don't have Reno as their top farm club
(23:06):
instead of where it's at now.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Well, well, the Golden Knights farm club is in Henderson, Nevada,
which is across the street from Vegas, the Henderson Silver Knights.
So there could be a rivalry there between Henderson, Nevada
and Reno in the American Hockey League. But the rank
Henderson they just built it. It only holds five thousand.
They sell it out every night. It's not like they're
hurting to sell tickets. But I'll tell you this. I
(23:28):
don't know if I mentioned this on recent shows. I've
talked to Bill Foley, the owner of the Golden Knights,
when they were getting the team off the ground and since,
and they were praying for a rivalry with the Coyotes.
And from the gets we know the Golden Nuts have
been good and the Coyotes terrible for a decade. So
now they're sitting there in Vegas praying that Utah will
at least get their act together. Because Vegas doesn't really
(23:51):
have a rival. They're hoping it would be the Coyotes.
Didn't happen. Everybody NHL hates the Golden Knights, if you've
been following that story, but they don't have a real
regional rival.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
They're they're hoping it'll be Utah.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Well, and you know what, I'm not surprised to win
Utah Hockey Club the first year. I don't know whether
they did have enough time or not. They seemed to
have narrowed to down to ten or twelve names, so
I'm beginning to wonder why didn't they you know, what
was it? How many is it now? Five?
Speaker 3 (24:23):
Six?
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Okay, so you've got six. I don't know, Maybe they
need some future pr down the road, I tell her
I can think of I don't know.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
Yeah, but they're they're they're they're saying they didn't have
enough time, and that one of the names is the Yeties,
and everybody thinks it's gonna end up being the Yeties,
which is a breed of Sasquatch. So they're basically saying,
we're gonna sell a bunch of jerseys in the first
year that says Utah Hockey Club, and then we're gonna
sell a bunch more next year when we name the team.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
How much kind of one?
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Now here's the thing. I am glad that Reno is
getting a team. It's a pretty good side market there. Listen,
I've been to Reno and I've also been to Vegas.
Now correct me if I'm wrong on this.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
Rod.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
Isn't Tim Tebow trying to get a minor league team
in Lake Tahoe? If I heard directly hockey team? Yeah,
first I heard of it. Okay, well, I thought I
had heard. I'll have to double check. I'm not one
to make up news. I thought that Tim Tebow was
going to do it. I don't know. I'm just speculating that.
I thought a lot to check up on it later.
Don't look at me as a news source at that
(25:31):
Lake Tahoe's getting a team at all. I just thought
I heard that Tim Tebow was going to get involved,
and I'll clarify it if it comes necessary at a
later date. But their bottom line is as I am,
glad Renos getting a team. And yes, the second thing,
like you said to Rod, okay, Arizona is a burnt
hockey market, and that's it.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
I'm not going back.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Yeah, And that's what I was going to say, thank you. Okay,
all right, we've talked hockey so far, and he suggests,
you know what, Joshua Bursting brought up an interesting thing
in the chatroom today, so I'm going to kind of
bring it up as an auxiliary topic, okay. And that
says And then I want to give a shout out
to the Little League champs from Late Leary, Florida. The
(26:13):
players are saying that they don't want to shootout. Okay,
do you you know what, Ron, I have no problem
with the shoot I don't care what the players want.
The player's job is want to do two things. Show up,
play hard, get paid. Okay. I have zero problem with
the shootout.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
Do you no problem with this shout? Shootout at all?
Speaker 4 (26:34):
And the workers don't make the decisions, the owners do
as you say, we're old enough to remember, and I
don't know if these guys in the chat room are
old enough to remember.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Do you remember why they brought it in.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
We used to have ties, a lot of them in
the NHL, and it was because of Americans need a
winner and a loser.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
We can't have these ties.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
So you know they went to the shootout because they
knew it would end games and it's exciting.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
I was a goalie, okay, so how many times do
the goalies be made to look bad in shootouts? Only
everyone because of the moves and everything. They're very the
goalies at the disadvantage. But whatever, we're still going to
have them, and they're exciting and they end games, which
is what we wanted. Are these players that are complaining
providing an alternative because I don't know what the alternative
(27:22):
would be to shootouts?
Speaker 1 (27:24):
Okay, let's go back to the chat room. I guess
Kandy Embling is saying I'm right about this, So here
you go. Ron Tim Tebow, the former Heighant Trophy winner
In two thousand and seven, if we're popular, ESPN college
football analysts ventured in the professional sports ownership area once
again with a minor league team. They're known as Tahoe
Night Monsters, based out of State Line, Nevada. So there
you go. I did hear about that? You didn't know
(27:45):
about that?
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Huh?
Speaker 1 (27:46):
Now, well hit my radar. It has Now that's what
we learn about the show. It's all about education and learn.
The franchise will begin playing the Fallou in the East
Coast Hockey League ECHL, which is the secondary Mental Theater
league in the National Hockey League, with the newly built
forty two hundred seat Tahoe Blue Events Center Servia Simo marea.
(28:07):
There you go. So there we go. I haven't there
you go. So now let's go back to George Shootout.
Like it or not?
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Yeah? I like it. I think it's good for hockey.
I mean, you know, the rules changed several years ago.
Speaker 5 (28:18):
As we know, Kenny Holland was one of the big voices,
and in that whole changeover for the first what is it,
five minutes four and four three?
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Yeah, Ken Holland. Ken Holland told me when he was
down here, says I hate the four and four. Give
me a three on three. I'm happy with that.
Speaker 5 (28:39):
I remember that you yep, you interviewed him on that,
Yes you did. But but yeah, the shootout I like it.
I think it's something that is very exciting to the fans.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
And yeah, I mean it is.
Speaker 7 (28:50):
Uh, it's it's a fifty to fifty hid if you're
lucky to you know what team's gonna win ones not
But still, I mean, you know, you got to use
your skills, use your best skater as your best goal scorers.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't to get you the
winning goal. I mean in the shootout, well that's there.
I like it.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Yeah, But if you've ever been to an NHL All
sorry game, all you have to do is look at
the skills competition and the shooting actorsit either way, and
then you understand why the shootout is important. So you know,
Joshua sent me a text about it earlier. I said,
I'll try to get it in if I have the time.
All right, going back to the Wednesday, missed the playoffs
on a tie breaker. I believe it was quirky overtime.
Paying there you go. You guess right, Well, for things Okay, So, yeah,
(29:34):
it's interesting. I've always learned about the shootout. I have
no problem with it. Me person, I didn't have a
problem with time. But yes, in America, we all want winners,
and that's exactly why it was all brought into play
in the first place.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
All right.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Now, Now with that said, since this is a Florida
show fire at Florida, we have an obligation, at least
in our minds, to provide a shout out to the
new Little League champ from Lake Mary, Florida. Now, I
should point out that this is the first time that
Florida has won in nine tries, and they ended up
beating the Chinese Taipei, which is won seventeen times. Of
(30:09):
George II Gorn some thoughts about Florida winning the first
and nine times.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
Oh well, I got a text of my friend Laura
and she's saying to me down in Florida.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
She says, oh, you're watching the game, and I says, no,
I actually forgot it was on.
Speaker 5 (30:28):
No.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
I put it on after she had reminded me. I
think it's great. I think it's great for Florida. It's
great for all the kids.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
I mean, you know, Florida is a great state for
of course for baseball, as we know throughout the century,
if you will, and you know, the host of so
many different great international tournaments and all that. But I
tell you what, those kids worked their butts off, and
both teams did. Chinese Taipei, like you said, Scott, they
won thirteen times, unbelievable record in their history. And the
(30:57):
United States has nothing to be ashamed of. They've had
a lot of victors.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
But I like the I like the method. I like
the how the matchups go, the formatting they called the
pool of course.
Speaker 5 (31:06):
Of the teams and they stick uh, you know, the
International in one section and they you know, uh, North
America or whatever in the other section. So what it
does is then comes down to this final weekend which
you're alluding to, and that was the final game, if
you will, the Florida against type.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
So hats off.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
Both teams deserve to win. It was a great game.
They both played very very hard, and it went into
extra innings. Of course eight innings is extra.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Yeah yeah, d Love, You're right to hockey show, not baseball.
Bottom line is called player of Florida, and I will
leave it at that. But point we'll take in correct
Florida on the Little League World Series, especially the greasy
showed and consoling the other side after the weirdness of
how it ended.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
Can Yeah, either one of you brought up how it ended, like,
how do you how do you know Uver's first base?
Speaker 3 (31:53):
What a way to lose a game?
Speaker 1 (31:55):
Yeah, exactly, But you know what, we have the Baseball Show.
We're going to get into more details later. So this
was just a shout out.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
You brought it up.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
I know I did, and you certainly made sure everybody
in the whole world knows I did. It's a shout out,
what kind Well, do you have any opinions on this?
Speaker 5 (32:12):
No?
Speaker 4 (32:13):
No, no, no, no other than listen, guys, you know
that I've been up here calling baseball this summer and
we made it to the championship final game bet game
three of the best of three, and if you can
very similar play. Our second baseman was covering second base.
He on a double play, he threw it into the
dugout uh and the the awarded the base runner three bases,
(32:35):
which was a run, and we lost by one run
and our manager got kicked out and we still haven't
figured out if the imp got it right or not?
It was very similar to that league championship bottom of
the ninth.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Oh my gosh. So that was painful for me to see.
Happy for Lake Mary. But you don't overlast like that.
It was a championship game, all right, So we can
order to Duke.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
I go close and personal here with Rob Peters, and
I want everybody to know what you have been doing
all summer with your broadcasting up in Canada. You said
you've been doing play by play.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
I know we have.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
We've talked about hockey a lot, but it's an opportunity
for everybody out there to get to know you on
a different level. How does that sound and talk about
what you've been doing up in Canada with baseball.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
Well, I appreciate that. And I got to be quick
because it says my battery is about to die.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
But no.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
I just said to my wife, it's too hot in Florida.
Do you mind if I go to Canada in the summer.
She goes, I'll pack your bags.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Go.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
And I went up there and my business manager broad
runs the baseball team. It's an NCAA collegiate team here,
and they said, when he said, we need a broadcaster,
and I said, yeah, I'll do it. I've never done baseball,
but I played it and we ended up had a
great season, went all the way to the league final.
And that's why I spent the summer up here. And
I'm coming back on Sunday for the winter to cover
(33:46):
the Panthers for our show and the wonderful South Florida tribute.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
All right, well, since your battery is about today, I
will let you let everybody know how they get a
hold of you. At the top of the hours. You know,
we will have one hundred and eighty such as baseball
to so go ahead, everybody, they get a hold of you, Rod.

Speaker 1 (34:37):

want to?
Speaker 4 (34:40):
You still want to screw up your I don't want
to screw up your download or upload or whatever.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
So no, no, you're not screwing up nothing. Glad that
you're here. It doesn't make any difference. It's okay. But anyway, George,
there you go, There you go. Now he's got some juice. Sorry,
