Speaker 1 (00:22):
Good meeting everybody, and welcome to another edition of Fire
Up Florida. My name is Scott Morgan, rockomoter city man,
pleased to be joined by my co host, Rod Peterson.
Ron and I had a heck of a time yesterday
over at their place, didn't me? Ron lunch till everybody
know what we were able to do yesterday.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Well, thank you Scott, good to see you. And yes,
I host the Rod Peterson Show daily on television in
Canada and thirty one US estates in. Scott and I
had a meeting in my studio which is here in
Boker Matone ahead of the show, and Scott came down
and was gracious enough to spend ninety minutes with me
on the show talking. What did we talk about, Scott
that people loved so much? There's a lot of everything.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Huh yeah, No, we mixed it up for good. I
mean everybody. I think they wanted me to sing the
first line of Old Canada, didn't they?
Speaker 2 (01:04):
That was part of it.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, you forget that you worked on the air. Yeah,
I want worked.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
On the air because you gave me diet Coca and
I didn't have diet mountain dew. That's what happened. But
I know the next time I'll bring in a couple
of bottles of diet mountain dew. But you know, it
is what it is. This is called right, this is entertainment.
So if that's the first time I've done that in
forty four years, well so be it. And you had
(01:32):
the nerve to go out there and critique me on
oh Canada, was that our native land? I said, My
I was claiming Canada.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Yeah, you were tweaking the lyrics to old Canada. You
did a great job, Scott that people liked it, and yeah,
my fad. Even into today, people are saying how much
they enjoyed the Motor City mad Mouth on the Rod
Peterson Show. How about that? It's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Oh you know what, Like I said, folks, to be
on Rod's show was absolutely fun. You know, we don't
do nothing scripted. You would think that the way we
were able to work together yesterday. We've been doing this
for for decades. That's how much chemistry that the two
of us had yesterday, for sure. So it was a blast. Rod.
Now I'm looking forward to doing a lot more shows
that you you know sometimes and you know, you have
(02:15):
good camaraderie and chemistry with a person you know it.
And to me, the way we were able to go
out and do things, it was a blast. And I
know we were able to do some good things, but
I expect us to do a whole lot more before
it's all send downe.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Oh yeah, Well that's the way it should be. It
should be fun, as you say, and talking, I think, well,
the fans enjoyed your vast rich history in sports. Let's
put it this way, of all the stops that you've had.
And i'd like to thank the viewers of the Fire
Up Florida Broadcasts podcast like my Hockey Talk and that's
what we're doing tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Well, there's no question about it, Ronde do and of
course thanks for doing the opportunity to promote my book,
Lesson from the Microphone. Well, speaking of Hockey Talk, let's
get right to it. I've got to take a lot
of the topics folks of Rod's columns, you know, so
I go out there and share them. If you don't
have access to Twitter or social media, it's not a
big deal. Just go to South Florida Tribute dot com
and then you can look under contributors writings you'll find
(03:08):
Ron stoppedown. You can always find all of his work.
This guy is a dynamite writer. He really is. I
wish I could go ahead duplicate more like him, but
I'm thankful than I have you at least providing with
some outstanding hockey content. With that said, let's get so
totecate do exhibition game manner. I'm going to go everything
for what you said, Well, no, you go ahead, just
answer the question.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
I'm interested to know what you think if exhibition games
matter in whatever league. I mean. The story out of
the NHL in the month of September and it is
carried over into October is injuries to veteran players. You know,
the people watching the show right now would know the
names Patrick Blainey of the Montreal Canadians, William Neeland or
the Toronto Maple Leafs, even backup goalten or Calvin Pickard
(03:51):
in Edmonton. There's a growing list of injuries of veteran
players in the preseason, which is troubling enough. And then
you've got the Florida Panthers playing eight preseason games, including
going all the way up to Quebec City to play
on Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings they're playing eight,
yet the Winnipeg Jets, Kyrie Flames, Vancouver Canucks are all
(04:11):
playing six. That doesn't make any sense. So Bill Day,
the Deputy Commissioner, was on NHL Radio this week saying
they're gonna look at this in the months ahead because
there is an appetite to change the preseason. But his
quote was, teams are all over the map with what
they want. I think we can all agree they don't
want veterans getting hurt, right, but how many games do
(04:31):
they want to play in house? It's going to look
the NFL. You and I agreed on my show is
ahead of the curve in that they shorten the preseason
and they don't play bets. I gotta think that's what
the NHL will do.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
What I'm gonna do, though, run is I'm gonna reference
everything that you put in your article, Okay, and then
we'll be able to continue the discussion that way. How
does that sound okay?
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Sure? Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Yeah, because what you had on there, Rod was really
really good. So here's what Rod put in. It is gone.
Absolutely they do. This is where players make the team
and veteran lineups are iced as a preseason schedule progresses
in order to get ready for the regular season openers
in October. The Panthers opened the exhibition season on Sunday
(05:12):
when you wrote it, with the double header versus Nashville
at America Bank Arena from two and six. Had the
double header for what you were there anyway, while the
Lightning hosts of Carolina Hurricanes on that Tuesday. Now that
I've mentioned that, Okay, you're right, Okay, we'll talk about
the veteran lineups. This is an opportunity for young players
to make the team. And I'm going to go over
(05:34):
the history of the NFL. Once upon a time, I
think they used to have six or eight Ativision game
and when yeah, they really did, then they went back.
For that matter, I'll take it a step further for
those historians that are watching it. They used to have
eighteen rounds in the draft until it reached its current format.
But then they brought it down to SI four three
and you know the ineffability OI two. So yeah, So
(05:56):
going back to what you said, Ron, and you were
right on point with it. Okay, you talk about the
veteran lineups are ice fish means you pretty much have
them all set with that right, and this is an
opportunity for rookie players to make it continue from there.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Well, and the question is do the games matter? You
and I both know I would hope everybody watching those
they don't matter. I don't know why they're even I
know why they're keeping the score. I know whether they
keeping track of the shots. But in Canada they're keeping
track of the records. Like the Winnipeg Jets are one
and three in the preseason going into tonight, the Colorado
Wavalanche zero and four. You know, Scott, that doesn't matter, right,
(06:36):
Tell me you know that absolutely exactly.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Say my voice here with the one I have to
say my voice but using a one word answer once
in a while. And I know you don't have a problem.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
You're never going to save your voice. You said the
same thing yesterday when you came on my show. And
you're bellering and hollering and quoting Gomer Pyle. Don't pretend
you're trying to save your voice with me, Scott.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Listen, this guy knows me forever and I only know
it's six week. Seriously, seriously, play at this guy. Seriously, really,
I know you can't covert pile this guy brings up
coober Pile. But you know what, go all the way
if you can do that.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Yeah, but we both know the games don't matter.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
No, they really don't. But you want answers to what
you want, both veterans as well as rookies, and again
like you like you mentioned though Rot Okay, it's all
about pretty much making sure that you avoid as many
injuries as you can for sure, And unfortunately in preseason,
I don't care what sport it is, they're gonna happen.
There's no two ways about it. I remember years ago
(07:41):
night NFL days back in the eighties when they used
to have two and three of they practices. Is what
they did tell me about how things are now? What
do they do practice in pad one or two days
a week and then all of a sudden they're all
walked through together because obviously a lot more money involved.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Well isn't that something though? That the NFL would be
the leader in this Baseball is an outlier for the
most part, although, as my wife Serena said, who you've
met you know, we went over to Fort Myers to
watch the Blue Jays play the Red Sox. There were
only two veterans in that Game one just happened to
be her boyfriend Alejandro Kirk to catch her for the
Blue Jays, so she was happy to see her guy play.
(08:18):
But the spring training results mean even less in baseball,
I think. So. I think what we're coming around here too,
is I think by next year you will see the
NHL play less preseason games, and I don't think you'll
see the Vets and hardly any of them.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Okay, so you asked that, So let me ask you
to put you on the spot. Okay, Rod, what do
you what do you think would be the right amount
of games for the NHL? I mean you brought it up.
Now you know I'm gonna finue with it.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Yeah, well that is a tough one. Absolutely, no more
than five. Right now they're playing a minimum of six,
a maximum of eighty. The NFL's got it down to two.
They will know they will working towards an eighteen game
regular season if they can do too. I got to
think the NHL could do four.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Okay, Well, that's fair. You answered my question. That's all
I asked you to do. I figured you were going
to say four or five, but I think five would
be all right down from eight. But if you do
four not the worst thing in the world. So you
guys should be pretty well conditioned by the time they
get the training camp to begin with. They're hungry for jobs,
so you know, like a lot of sports where you
have guaranteed money, and you do have guaranteed money, only
(09:29):
not as much in the NHL compared to other sports.
I love the hockey players built, you know, mindset. You
guys are the hardest working players on the planet. And
I know Charles Barkley is always suspected hockey players because
they don't complain, they work hard and they do what
they have to do. So all right, we'll figure four
or five and by the time we reintroduce this conversation
(09:52):
round about a year from now, we'll definitely talk about
it again. All right. With that said, we're going to
bring in Candy Ebling. First nation, We are going to
bring in Candy Evelyn for a station break. But meanwhile,
just to let everybody know that this is a South
(10:13):
Florida tribute broadcasting network. My name is Scott Morgan Roth
alone with Ron Peterson, so she'll be on in just
a moment here. I know that she has a lot
going on with the Milwaukee Brewers and the New York Mets.
In fact, we'll bring her on in just a moment.
So with that said, Rod, first of all, I want
(10:36):
you to explain everybody about Cats and Bolts podcasts.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Thank you, Scott. It's a podcast that is in season two.
Serena and I do it together, Serena Taylor and I
from our studio in downtown boker Ratone. Last year it
won the award for the fastest growing podcast in Florida.
And as everybody said, you picked a great time to
start a hockey podcast, asked in Florida with the keat
(11:02):
that the Tampa Bay Lightning got going and the Florida
Panthers got going. It's gone very well. We record every
Wednesday and the latest podcast came out today where we
talk of a lot of the topics we're talking about
here today, the preseason and are we ready for the
regular season which opens well actually in Europe this week
this weekend with a Buffalo Sabers take on the New
(11:23):
Jersey Devils in Prague and again here in North next Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Okay, well that's fair enough, you know what we'll do.
We'll go ahead, and actually's getting my prescription. So but
that said, we'll go onto our next topic. Now, I
know I had a couple of prescriptions here coming, So
we'll go on to the next one. Do NHL Rookie Tournament,
and I'm gonna go buy. I'm gonna go out there
and talk about what you want to add and wrote,
(11:52):
and then you can elaborate. Rookie attorneys are like puppy love,
interesting comparison. Nobody seems to like to take them seriously,
but the puppies. Having said that, the Panthers, Lightning, Hurricanes,
and Predators wrapped up the NHL Southeastern Rookie Showcase on
Monday in Nashville. The NHL doesn't post score and score
(12:14):
sheets to hand out for however, they predicted in this race.
Tampa products Ethan Dothier and Jason Durrow lit the lamp
in the rookie games, while the Panthers hopeful Grayson Sauchon
scored a highlight reel Italian Monday five to two loss.
All three players have advances to their team's main training camps.
(12:36):
So with that said, go ahead, Rod and tell everybody
what you were looking to do at that point.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Well, nothing really, And we talked with George Acorn about
this last week the rookie camps. Listen, if they're going
to shorten the training camp the preseason, Scott, they're probably
going to eliminate these rookie tournaments all together.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
And then with the way the NHL looks at things
is are you making us money or are you costing
this money the preseasons at least selling some tickets. There's
people watching on television. I'm not sure what the ratings are.
Those rookie tournaments are really nothing more than a money pitt,
so why again, I guess what we'll probably see is
a shortened preseason take the place of the rookie tournament.
(13:19):
Those rookies will be carried over to the preseason and
we won't see as many bets. That's where I see
it go.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
You know, it just kind of reminds me of, though, Ron.
It really reminds me of a situation where the NFL
is cutting down on exhibition games. But what they're doing
is they're taking the teams over to the other place
and they're having practices with them. So you know what
I'm saying, So instead of having you know, just the games,
now you have practices amongst the teams, for example, the
(13:47):
Lions and the Giants, and practices until their game as well,
So it's another opportunity to look at players at the
same time. Do you think that there's any comparison between the.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
Two I've heard the suggestion practices is what.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Yeah, that's what I was looking for, Thank you.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Yeah. If we can agree that the NFL is so
far out in front of all the other pro leagues,
they're so far out in front of this. They've been
doing joint practices for a few years, to the point
that the NFL is talking about getting rid of those
already because it's pro football, a sport played by violent people,
and those joint practices were getting far too nasty and
(14:26):
far too dirty and far too competitive. You know yourself, Scott,
what do you think is going to happen when you
get the Detroit lines of New York Giants together? They're
gonna play like this the Super Bowl, especially in training
camp when you're trying to earn a spot. So will
the NHL. They could do that. I mean, honestly, the
Lightning and Panther rookies could all meet in Asterio and
beat the hell out of each other on a weekend
(14:46):
it would be a lot easier for everybody rather than
fly four teams to Nashville and play in a practice
rank that nobody goes to. You know what I mean.
It's just it's again, I go back to what Bill
Daily said. I got a lot of out of that
interview with him. I put it in my call them
today or this week and your fine publication, and he said,
this will be looked at because there seems to be
(15:06):
a big appetag I type for change for what they're
doing right now.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Well, you know, we minds. I had a little sidebard
where you just talked about the lines and the giants
were both fined two hundred grand apiece because of the
fact that they were that at for more physical than
they should have been. So I can appreciate everything you're
coming from. Now, we'll bring on Candy Impling for a
station break. Go ahead, Candy, Well.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
Welcome everybody. Glad to have you here. We're doing a
station break. That means we are talking about the South
Florder Tribute publishing company that published a book last November
called Lessons from the Microphone, Tuning into the Enduring Wisdom
of Visionary Leaders. It is written by Scott the MotorCity
Madmouth Morgan Roth. It talks about his forty plus years
(15:49):
in the media industry and how it has changed over
those years, some great stories and a couple of pictures
to boot. It is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kindle, Google,
and Apple Books. There is also a link on our
website www dot South Florida Tribune dot com, where Rod
(16:10):
also writes Scott writes and I take pictures. So go
over to the website and check us all out. If
you'd like to listen to podcasts, you can find us
wherever you get your podcasts. If you'd like to advertise
or sponsor any one of our shows, call Scott nine
five four three oh four four nine four one Twitter
at Tribune South or X if you want to call
(16:32):
it that, whatever you want to call it these days
back to you, Scott, Thank you.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Candy, well done. You know old she didn't come up
with that nation right because we I had a prescription
that was being delivered. So but she's unbelievable. What Candy
Emplin does to this platform is unbelievable. Also coming up
after Fire of Florida, Candy Appling hosts her own show
called Fire Up she'll have Jeremy Ballrick and she'll have
Ralph Williams on and I'll talk with the latest headlines
in sports as well. All right, Rod, you know what
(17:00):
this is. I want you to give you some Lightning
and Panther updates. Take it away, Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Well, the two teams met in a home at home
preseason this set this week. They met here at Amerion
Bank Arena Monday night. And I don't know what you
think about this. The general thinking, Scott, is that in
the NHL preseason, you play your veterans at home and
you dress a young lineup on the road. And the
Lightning didn't do that. They came in here and played
their full guns on Monday nights and won three to one.
(17:30):
It was Jake Genseil, Victor Hedman, Braden Point, Nikita Kucherov
here and they won three to one, Tampa one in
Florida three one on Monday. The two teams met last
night at Emily Arena in Tampa. The Panthers turned the
tables and won two to one in overtime. And it's
getting a little spicy. We're seeing the veteran lineups here
towards the end of the preseason. Spencer Knight was close
(17:52):
to getting a shutout last night. He's in a war
for the number two job in goal for the Panthers.
So our update is that the Panthers and Lightning playing
each other here this week in the preseason, and the
games have been great. How about that?
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Very good? You know, it's good to see Spencer night
ron finally overcoming some of his other issues because you know,
when he first came here, I had an opportunity on
a zoom call to talk to him. What a good kid.
You know, sometimes you hate to see youngsters get out
track a little bit. You're gonna need an heir apparent
to Sergey Vibroski anyways, and I know a lot of
people thought high of them, including former coach Soul Quinnville
(18:28):
as well. All Right, so now you've got the opener.
On Tuesday night in October eighth, the Panthers are hosting
the Boston Bruins. What do you expect out of that game?
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Well, you know, there's considerable drama going on in Boston
right now, and my guess is, with all the things
you've got going on in your life, you haven't been
able to follow it because I've barely been able to
follow it. As a matter of fact, i'd heard a
little bit about it. But your good friend Joshua Dore
wrote into my show and said, Rod, what's your take
of this Jeremy Swaman situation up in Boston. Their number
(19:00):
one goaltender is in a he said, She said, with
the Bruins over his contract talks. And I guess it's
got ugly if we had an arbitration hearing this summer
where some nasty things were said behind closed doors by
the Bruins to Jeremy Swayman that he's not worth the money.
It's turned into some massive headache and it doesn't look
like Jeremy Swayman, the number one goalie for the Bruins,
(19:22):
is going to start in Gold Tuesday when they come
here to open the season against the Panthers. So anyways,
with josh a Lot asked me what I thought about it,
I'm like, it's billionaires and millionaires fighting over money. I
don't get into that stuff. I don't care, but it's
not good for the Bruins, let's put it that way.
So I think the Panthers are going to trounce some
Tuesday night at Ameribank Arena.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
That's what I think the goltender, won't they do found them.
It's a good way for opening the night to defend
the Stanley Cup for sure. So one other thing I
want to get to Chicago Blackouts are at the Utah
Hockey Club. First game ever in Utah from the hockey Club.
Some thoughts about that.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
There is so much height in the league about Utah
and amongst the fans, amongst the league itself and listen,
you know, as well as like it doesn't matter the league.
It's exciting when there's a new market introduced to a league.
Salt Lake City's never had a team. People are going off.
The team doesn't have a name yet, so there calling
it the Utah Hockey Club. You've got the number one
(20:20):
young star in the NHL, Connor Bedard coming in with
the Chicago Blackhawks. I won't say he's the face of
the NHL yet. I do believe that's Connor McDavid. But
I'm just I would Scott. I would like to tell
the people of Utah hump the Brakes. I feel like
they think they're getting an expansion team, and furthermore, they
think they're going to be the Vegas Golden Knights and
(20:41):
go to the Stanley Cup Final in year one. I'm like,
you're getting the Arizona Coyotes. They haven't made the playoffs
since twenty twelve, so chill out. But on the flip side,
I'm like, you know what, figure it out on your own.
I don't want to be the wet blanket on their excitement.
You know. All I'm saying is probably if you were
to draw up the top five h stories, which I
think is going to be my tollo next week in
(21:02):
the South Worida Tribute, what's the top ten storylines going
into the season right, top five would definitely be Utah
just their existence alone, let alone. Do they make the playoffs?
I don't think they do, and I hope it's not
too crushing for their fan base when they don't.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
Well, let me tell you this, rod. If you're following
the Arizona Coyotes, okay, and I'm talking about the Arizona
Coyotes people, if that looks like you're actually following big
Shoes you're talking about if that is big Shoes now,
(21:39):
because I got news for they were a disaster for
the minute they entered the Valley of the sun from
being over. I think it was called a Merriwest Arena
at the time, all the way to whatever they would
call it, all the way to HeLa River, which was
like you and I talked about that. It was a
good facility until they ended up going to Arizona State,
So you know that franchise could go anywhere. But up.
(22:04):
Keep in mind, though, and I want to make sure
that I illustrate this as well. This is Utah's audition, Rod,
and you're hearing it on this show as an opportunity
because all this time they've been a one major sports
market team with the Jazz. Okay, this is their opportunity
to audition that they can handle it at least two
(22:25):
major league teams. You know why, because they're looking for
Major League Baseball. Think about that run for a second. Okay,
now we have you know what I throw my traveling
over the years round, I've always been intrigued by being
able to go to games where they they're the only
game in town. One of my favorite places was always Sacramento.
(22:46):
Oh my god, what they do and put the noise
in those Arco arenos is unbelievable. In Utah, I've seen
games there at the Utah Jazz when they played at
the Salt Palace. So again they're auditioning to be major market.
Vegas didn't last long in that thing because they had
the Golden Knife, let alone the fact that they got
out to an incredible start because of a favorable expansion
(23:09):
draft where they can get anybody they want, and of
course Seattle, you know they're not the only game in down.
So Vegas grew into a major league market quick. So
watch out for the what The one thing I'm going
to tell you, Ron, Okay, is look for the attendance
figures throughout this year at least, and then we'll find
out what kind of momentum they have. Now as I understand,
(23:31):
correct me if I'm wrong, Okay, that stadium is not
really ready completely ready. I think it only holds like
twelve thousand seats with some obstructive U seats. Is that correct?
Speaker 2 (23:43):
I think it's sixteen thousand total with five thousand obstructed,
so I find eleven thousand can actually see both nets.
I think that's what it is. I guess we'll find
out once the season starts. But you got me thinking, Scott,
which you always do, and we could do a whole
(24:03):
episode here on Fire Up Florida about how the Utah
Hockey Club's going to do with new ownership. Everybody. I
think we've talked about this guy, Ryan Smith. He's a
tech guy. That's where he made his you know, billion
dollars or whatever. It was so bad in Arizona. Maybe
these players in a better situation, a more positive, you know, environment,
(24:25):
with an owner that actually cares about winning, maybe they
will be better. I don't know, but it's not just
Alex Morillo's fault, the last owner of the Coyotes that
they've been terrible for whatever it is, twenty five years.
It's not just him, right, So it's I think I
think they'd be a bump in Utah, and I think
they will sell out every game for the reasons that
(24:46):
you said they're starved for hockey. But you know, you
and I talked from time to time about the fact
that we're not young men. And I find it really
interesting that in Vegas. I used to go there for
years and people would say, yeah, we're just not a
major sports town. You've been there. What would you do
when you go there? You go to Triple A baseball,
the Stars or UNLV basketball or football? That's all they had,
(25:06):
and that's all they ever thought they were going to
be Right now. Now they're one of the greatest sports
towns in America, and I guess the Lake City's trying
to do following their footsteps.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Yeah, well, you're right, we could do a whole show.
Don't start getting me going on it, because we probably
will one day. All ideas are game. I really don't
even care if to me, if it's an interesting topic,
I'll work on. I don't care where where we're at,
whether we're in Florida, whether in Iceland. You know, I
don't really care. If it's interesting, we're putting it on
our air and we're going to talk about it. But
(25:36):
it'd be pretty interesting. I figured around eleven twelve thousand
the first year, but because I know they've been told
by the NHL they have to get that rink up
to NHL standards the second year. I think just the
fact that they were able to get them out of Arizona,
out of that Arizona State arena and they couldn't even
pay their hotel bills last year to anything, you had
(25:56):
to be a step of from what they had before,
for sure. So folks, you're listen, Fire Up Florida. My
name was Scott Morgan, a Photor City man. Please be
joined by my co host Ron Peterson. We do this
show every week and we're going to be doing a
lot of things together. And I couldn't think of a
better co host I have who knows and has the
pulse of what Florida's hockey is all about, both on
(26:19):
the Tampa side as well as the South Florida side
as well. So any other comments or things you want
to add to it before we call it a night.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
I've been thinking a lot about your comment yesterday. I
hope you don't mind me divulging this, but you said
you said you're a bit of a one trick pony
to me, and I said, that's all I want to be, Scott.
I want to be the hockey guy. And you're like, no, no, no,
you're going to be doing more. So I got a
kick out of that. I told Serena that I'm like,
I'm happy being the one trick pony guy. I want
to be the hockey guy. You just said it, you know,
(26:51):
but there are other things going on here in Florida.
I understand that, But listen, what's your number one sport.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
You know what, I'll just one on one a. I'm
an NFL or a football guy in baseball, is what
I am?
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Yeah, okay, what's fair. That's why I asked. And I'm
hockey number one, one, two, three, and four and probably
football five. So well I want to ask, Yeah, go.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
Ahead, and if you want to ask me what my
passion is, okay, is motorsports.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
You said it, You said it yesterday, you said it
was a big secret. You didn't want to divulge that, but.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Well, you know what, some people know how to get
information out of me and you definitely, and they're all
there to watch it. No I want let me tell you, folks,
I love motorsports, I really do. I mean, and lately
I've become an the durance freak. I did the roll
at twenty four, I've done the twelve hour receivering and
I'm targeting Lemon's next. I love whatever and whatever other
(27:48):
endurance ones I can get. And you know what, I
leased a band myself, so I had the old little
portable uh bed mattresses in there. So if I can't
find a hotel anywhere, we're good man. All I need
is a cooler and a mattress and a little cover.
I am my computer and weird, but yeah, I don't mind. Hey, listen, Peterson,
(28:08):
after what you did yesterday, you can find ways to
get things out of me. And when I trust you, okay,
you have a better chance to get more out of
me that way, as we're building the thrust amongst one another. No,
I can't around with you about being one trick pony.
One thing about you though. Not only are you a
one trick pony, you're damn good one trick pony. I
went out there and saw on Instagram you had a
(28:29):
nice interview with Ron McLean. I believe is that correct?
And I think, you know what, that's incredible when you're
able to go back and talk about some of these
hockey legendary announcers and you're able to bring them on
your show. That to me, when you bring on Ron McLean,
you're hitting a chord with me because I again being
from the mental Detroit area, Rod Okay, I'm born with
(28:49):
Hockey Night in Canada.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
He's the man. He's the man.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
In fact, not only that I met Dave Hodge years ago,
but ever at the Pacific Coliseum covering of Vancouver, Canucks.
I believe the Edmonton Oilers were there. It was pretty
cool that, you know what, I was traveling around the country.
I always wanted to go to Vancouver and Darcy Road,
I believe, was the actual pr guy in Georgie Icorn
(29:15):
Senmon Recrests and Darcy went ahead gave me a credential
to cover. It was pretty neat. I mean that press
box was way up there, but it was just neat
to be able to walk into Vancouver, one of the
most beautiful cities in the world, hang out at Stanley
Park and be able to see Chinatown in all those
areas and work my way to say, folks, if you
haven't ever been to Vancouver for you got to get
there this place. But I did go to the old
(29:36):
Pacific Coliseum. I met Dave Hodfrey started talking hockey. It
was pretty good. There are a lot of things you
know you know about you mean, Rod, but in due
time you're gonna find out.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
And vice versa, my dad and vice versa. But yes,
Vancouver is David let him in his favorite city, which
I think is really cool. And uh, I'll let you
go or we could go on forever. This has been
a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Yeah, well, this is gonna be a lot of fun, folks.
We planned to do show every Thursday before fire up. Okay,
So meanwhile, Candy, one last station break to give them
an information about the book. Rod, you hanging around for
one more book promo?
