Speaker 1 (00:23):
Happy Halloween, everybody. Welcome to another edition of Fire Up Florida. Yes,
we are talking hockey tonight. So while you're out there
going out there and get your candy and doing all
the old Halloween business, we're gonna give you a lot
of treats tonight with hockey knowledge. And look at mister Rod.
Look he's all prepared with that. I need to see that, Rod.
(00:44):
Look at this, he's got the pumpkin good stuff.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Now, please be joined by my co host Rod Peterson,
prominently known in Canada and we're working our due diligence
to make sure he's known in America.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Gonna have our candy as well, the lovely candy Ebling
on our show.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Well you know how to say all the right things
around of course, with that beautiful way from your Serena.
She's amazing too. Of course, looking forward to catch it
up in the Youth for dinner at some point or another.
But anyways, you know what we're gonna We're going to
Tampa for a few minutes. Anyways, now we're going to
talk about Steve Stampcos returning to Tampa on Tuesday night,
A place where he spent sixteen years. He received a
(01:27):
standing ovation, a video tribute collected, two assessed, but guess
what the Tampa Bay Light and he came away when
they three to two went over the National Predators.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Rod describe the stamp Coos.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Return, Well, you know, you and I have been talking
about it on this show since he left in the summertime,
and on our Cats and Bolts podcasts. We've been talking
about it almost every show. It was a major to
do Scott Steven Stamkos coming back. I know your ties
to the Tampa area and you know so you know
how much he means to that city. Sixteen seasons, all
time leader and go assistance and games played. He had
(02:02):
a very well attended media event before the game, and
then during the game, huge ovation when he came out
of the ice, and then the first TV timeout they
played a video tribute and there weren't many dry eyes
in the house. Serena thought it was actually overboard. My wife,
I thought it might have been a little overboard, but
it wasn't too long or anything.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
But he left the bench. Not a lot of guys do.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Scott made a big circle out on the ice, saluted
the crowd, and I felt like Victor Hedman might have
been crying a little bit, and John Cooper might have had.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
A tier too. It means a lot of those guys.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Well, listen, you just stated it a moment ago, right, Okay.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Being a former resident and a graduate from Hers South
Florida Bulls in Tampa, I don't know if I would
agree that any of these overboard, but I didn't see it,
So I don't want to sit there and go out
there and say what I saw versus overboard. But I
know the one thing about the Tampa Bay Lightning fans.
He got a lot of Midwestern people in that area.
So I know, back in the days when I was
a student at USF, I used to see the Lions
(03:01):
down there, when the Vikings and the Packers used to
come down there as well, he had a pretty interesting
situation with a lot of Midwestern people. So what I'm saying,
Rod is this, Okay, A lot of times when you
look into Tampa, they're very loyal fans. That's a great
fan base there. It really simply is I know the
Tampa Bay Rays will eventually draw if they find the
(03:23):
right stadium and know where they're putting it, but we'll
see and all of a time, let's not get herself
the loyalty with the Buccaneers or what their But remember
the Lightning has done a lot of winning over the
last everally years, So you know, I think they'll regret that.
I feel bad about us. They should have kept Stampos
as a light time Lightning. Unfortunately, the financial situation never
played itself out. That's why he's up in another area
(03:45):
that also had those stadium income tax Nashville, Tennessee. Nevertheless,
I'm glad that he was able to get a couple
of it. But meanwhile, it was a win win situation,
right Rod. He got a couple of cis, got the video,
and he got all the wrecking and the light Still.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
A win win for the Lightning, I guess.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Yeah, not for his new team, the Nashville Predators, who
are second last in the Central Division, by the way,
So he's still trying to find his way in Nashville,
is still trying to get in gear. Can I ask
you a question. I know it's your show, but you
are you lived in Tampa. You went to usf the
number Am I right in saying the Buccaneers are the
number one? Team in that town. The Lightning are two
(04:26):
and the Rays are three. Yeah, you're right on target, Rod, Yeah,
what would you say it is here?
Speaker 1 (04:34):
You know what I have to say, The Miami Dolphins
are still the number one team because they've been here longer,
and Miami's a football now. If you're asking me from
a pro sports level, I'll tell you. So let's just
go do it this way. Okay, I would say that
the Miami Dolphins are first. Okay, let's see what he got. Okay,
(04:55):
got Miami Dolphins first. I'm going to say the Miami
Heat or second. The Florida Panthers are third, and the
Miami Marylands are fourth, And of course let's not forget
the Miami Hurricanes, which I'm gonna talk about a little.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Bit later in the broadcast.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Absolutely, I hope that gives you what you're leah. I mean,
it's Dolphins been around here forever, at the early Super Bowls,
It's always been a football down and I'll tell you
not to sleep of.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
The Rod Inner Miami mL LASS.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Yes, last team, this team here will be moving to
Pioneer Park down in Miami.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
But they draw well. They have a great loyal fan base.
But now Inner Miami.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
It's a little bit too early to call, but they've
been spending money on top to your talent, So yeah,
I'm comfortable with the order.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Rot.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
I really am Dolphins, Heat, Panthers, Marlins, and then Inner Miami.
But you know, the Panthers to me, I think they
will still be fixed at third.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
It's only because of the.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Fact that you have pat Riley, in the fact that Maamy,
he'd have done it so well for so long. But
at least they probably jumped ahead of the Marlins by
winning this last championship in the way that Bill Zito
was doing things to me, enabled them to really increase
their interest in this local fan base.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Great, yeah, they're ahead of the Marlins.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
They're ahead of the Marlins for sure, but right now
with the Hurricanes the most popular team in the market,
I totally get. I totally get where you're coming from
with that. Sorry, we'll get back on point here.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Oh no, no, no, I think that's a fair question.
If you're going to take me on point, that's the
way you do it. Hey, listen, Rod, don't forget. Okay,
this is fire up Florida, seriously.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Okay, I love it.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Great stuff. So no, it's a great question. I'm glad
you asked me that. Thank you, since we were on
the Tampa Bay side. The comparare contrast both ends, right,
great stuff? All right, guess what. I haven't been across
the pond, but we're going across them for this segment
Championship tour in Europe. The Panthers will be the third
reigning Stanley Cup champions to play overseas, following the Avalanche
who were out in tam Perry the twenty two to
(07:11):
twenty three.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
It shows you what I know about across the pond.
Me too is.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Maybe you and I and Kanty and Sorita should take
a trim collectively across there and ducks the two thousand
and two and eight in London, which I do know
where that's at. So here's a question I'm gonna ask you, Rod, Okay,
what does this do for the Panthers worldwide reputation? Obviously
they're in the NHL Global Series Floorsier.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Go ahead.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
I think it's amazing. They are the NHL's current darling team.
And if you read the wonderful South Florida Tribune, my
weekly column this week talks about that the Panthers are
currently the IT team, Scott. They've been in the Stanley
Cup the last two years. They've gone to Europe here
for this global series. They've played in Quebec City earlier
this month in a preseason game against the Los Angeles
(07:59):
Kings and Amazon Prime. The Panthers are the IT team.
And I know you've lived here for a long time.
I'm not like I'm still getting it from people. You're
a front runner. You weren't here in the tough times. Again,
that's not my fault. These are great times to cover
the Panthers. These are great times to be a Panthers fan.
And you know, one night, I'd like to get Serena
on here.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
We'll bring you on the.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Cats and Bolts podcast because she thinks soon, she thinks
Gary Bettman was behind propping up the Panthers to make
this a hockey market, and she feels that they're the
NHL and Gary Bettman, the commissioner, are close to moving
on to the next market that they want to prop up, which,
by the way, she thinks is Nashville.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
But think about it, Scott.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Not before the Stanley Cup finals were even here, the
NHL All Star Game was here in twenty twenty three,
if you remember, and that was very well attended. So
but you asked about Finland, Tampere, Finland. I've never been there.
It's Alexander Barkov's hometown. I think it's an eighteen thousand
seat rink. They're going to play it against Dallas. It's
it's going to help the Panthers brand worldwide. But more
(08:59):
than any thing, why they're doing it is to grow
the NHL's brand worldwide. And I think it's a fantastic idea.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Have a head. Let me tell you, NHL. I'll give
them this much, okay, Rod.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Over the years, their international presence has always been great,
going back to in the nineteen seventies when we talked
about Team Canada against showing that eight game series, dating
back to Ken Dryden in a lot of those Mega super.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Series, I gotta give the NHL credit.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
They have tried the All Star formats with the USA
or North America against the world whatever it is. So
when you have all Star games, Rod, you know, and
I like to use the word you know because you know,
you know, some people were my Toastmasters group. Get on
me for saying it to it, but then again, they
able to see many of these shows in the first place,
(09:52):
you know, have the NHL done a great job over
the here and now you see the influx of Russians
on all these Yeers players, or the sports becoming more
of an European style of the NHL, or that wasn't
hurt of when you look back at the Broad Street
Bullies of what they did when you had the Philadelphia
Flyers against the Russians.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
To go back to that all day long.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
But to the NHL's credit, their international presence is really good.
You're bringing into Swedens right, and you talk about people
from Finland, and of course you can't forget the Russian
presidence no matter what you want to say about them.
They have some great goaltenders. I think the only regret
I have over the years, rod is I wish the
Lattis lab Tretch Act would have been able to come
(10:35):
over here and play hockey in North America, way ahead
of its time.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
But still you know it is. But you're right.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
I mean, the Florida Panthers gotten here not because of
winning the Stanley Cup. I think they got in here
because of three straight trips to the NHL Stanley Cup Finals,
which culminated with the Stanley Cup presidence. Now in order
to stay on national team me, okay, they need to
continue to win and we'll see what the sustainability part
(11:05):
of it is in the first place. But I think
it's a positive step for their worldwide reputation and we'll
see if this continues to play itself out.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Paul Maurice was there in twenty sixteen coaching the Winnipeg Jets.
Oddly so, Paul has been there the current head coach
of the Panthers, and he said that's when he realized
how much they love hockey in the country of Finland,
which I believe is only three point six million people
as a country scott per capita. They put as many
players in the NHL as Canada. I've been doing all
(11:37):
the reading on that. That's why you have me on here.
But I'll tell you what I didn't be. I'm not
a diehard NBA fan. You don't see me talk about
it much. But they there was a neutral site game
in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in nineteen ninety three between the Minnesota
Timberwolves and the Atlanta Hawks. I went, I loved it,
sat close to the court and it hooked me. So
neutral site games like this are very important for every league.
(12:00):
Why do you think the NFL does it so much?
Speaker 2 (12:02):
So?
Speaker 3 (12:03):
I love it. I love it. You get fans for life.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Oh great segue. It really is like you said, the
NFL has been doing that for a long time. Did
you know one of the first Swedish players to ever
play in the NHL.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
I don't think you'll notice. I'll just tip your head.
I have another did you know? Later? Though? But you're
not going to get tripped up on this was.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
A guy by the name of Tony Bergman for the
Detroit red Wings back in the early seventies. A lot
of people talk about Tony Bergman, but you also had
Gary Bergman, who was a great defenseman for the Redlings
from a year.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
I know they weren't related. One was born out in
sweet and the other one was not.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
So just a little def white there. So if that's that,
Candy Ambling didn't come in here for a station, Bret Candy,
go ahead.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
You are listening to the South Border Tribune YouTube channel.

(13:10):
of course you are listening to Fire Up Florida, where
we talk a lot of hockey, especially here in the
state of Florida. The Self Florida Tribune Publishing Company published
a book last November called Lessons from the Microphone, Tuning
into the Enduring Wisdom of Visionary Leaders. It is written
by your host, Scott the MotorCity Madmouth Morgan Roth. It
(13:32):
talks about his forty plus years in the media industry

five three oh four four Back to you, Scott.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Well done, Candy.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
So once again, in case you're just joining us here
on Fire at Florida, we've talked about Steve Stamco's return
to the Tampa Area Championship Tour in Europe, for which
the Florida Panthers will be playing over the weekend. And
you know what's good for the Cats, It really really is.
I haven't been to a Panthers game in a while.
I'm so busy with my work here at the Tribune.
But I look forward today that Rod and I can
(14:36):
both go collectively together, and I know when we're on site.
Whenever we're together, we have a lot of fun doing it.
So it's a matter of time. I'm dealing folks with
a few medical issues and I'm trying to get my
handle on. But once I'm able to do that, watch
out if you think Roden hired dangerous on this show.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Way that this guy doesn't know what he's in for
when he sees me in person, Although been when he
sees me over at the studio.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
I have been a guest over on the Rod Peterson
Show before. Thankful to say that'll be on tomorrow night?
Was it one o'clock Eastern time? Rod Peterson? Yeah, you
know what, it's good. The addition to Rob Peterson has
been one of my best moves of the year. And
I say that sincerely, Rod, because you've opened up the
opportunity to talk about hockey. But more importantly, you're a
(15:19):
good friend. And I'm also looking to expand my presence
into Cannon. I don't think there's a better person on
the planet than to expand it and was a sincere
professional guy like you, And that's why I'm very glad
that you're on my team.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
Really, you bet you.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
I'm glad to be on the team. And by the way,
I love what you've done with your screen. What have
you done there? You tightened up the window or something?
What did you do?
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Don't ask me what I did. It's candy that does
all the works. Work. Candy, you're asking me. I'm a
least technical.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Oh I Halloween Candy.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
You're pretty good. You're pretty good.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
You're all right to know. But you've been a great addition.
I have a lot of things up my baggage. I say,
you know, darn well, I'm talking about right.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
I think so yes, okay.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Stick around me for a while, Peterson. You know, the
ride here and for will be one that you never
visualize all your presidents in Canada. But it's a good
thing when we had the GMTA coming into planet, great
mindstick elect Another thing I should point out before we
go on to the next topic. I am planning to
write a book, the second half of Lessons from the Microphone.
I'm hoping to get going with that a little bit
(16:26):
in January. We have found somebody that's actually going to
do the audiobook. Finally, I found her over at Toastmasters.
It'll be a little while before we get it out there,
but nevertheless, I'm very comfortable with the individual that we're
going to have on here. All right, Roder, you went
out there and mentioned the Canes. Now we're going to
got a little more detail.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Fair enough.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
Yeah, The Miami Hurricanes offense, led by cam Ward get
This has gone three and out on three point three percent.
Let me say this again, Rod, Okay, three point three
percent of drives this season. That's the lowest rate by
an FBS offense since two thousand and four. My source
(17:06):
on this one is True Media Sports three of ninety
two drives have ended with a punt after three plays,
but two were against the University of Florida, by the
way of which I was at that game in Gamesville one,
three and out in their last eighty two drives. And
Miami does host the two Blue Devils on Saturday at noon.
(17:27):
The South Florida Tribute will becovering that game on Saturday,
as long as as well as the University of South
Florida and a FAU tomorrow. So get two college football games,
all right? Rod Our conversation shifts in the Miami Hurricanes.
I realized Canadian Football League have what two thousand and
a decision to kick the ball.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
You're in.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
American football. This is what you got. Give me some
thoughts about what the Canes are doing.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
I'm just excited. Listen. I think you would agree.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Based on what I hear around the area, they are
the most popular football team in South Florida right now,
ahead of the Miami Dolphins. Because the Dolphins are two
and six and done. I see people that are upset
that they are not higher in the top twenty five
at AP because they don't have a loss yet there
are teams ahead of them that do. That's one and
(18:18):
two cam Ward. I'd like to think that he will
win the Heisman. I know he's a top candidate. I
haven't seen the latest odds, Scott, but he reminds me
of Warren Moon CFL days. You don't have to just
be a CFL fan to know who Warren Moon is.
He's a pro football Hall of Famer, as you know
Houston orders. That's so he reminds me of. I don't
know about you. I'd be interested to get your take
on it. And Mario Cristobal is this year two or
(18:41):
three for him, because I know there was some rough
bumps off the start, but nobody's complaining about Mario Cristabell now.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Number one.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
I've had faith in Kryst Wall from the beginning. Oh Rot, listen, Okay,
all he's done is wayne wherever he's got, even won
at Florida International University and got dem no ball game.
That that easy? Okay, it really isn't. And then he
goes out to Oregon and does quite well there. Of course,
he was worked under saving for a little while and
then now he's back in Yeman. So it's got a
(19:11):
little track record. Warren Moon's an interesting I'm glad you
brought him up. I met him years ago when he
was a commentator for TNT or one of those one
of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Plus he was.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
A football player in Canada. He approved that you can
use the Canadian Football League as a stepping someone to
get to the National Football League. So I've always believed
in Crystal Ball. I make no bones about it. I
mean I've been anytime. You The thing that people have
to understand, I'm out a coach who has a track
record of winning or a product or a productive places.
(19:43):
If he's done it before, it's not like he took
a dumb pill overnight, right right, And that's what you
have with Mario christ Ball. And and let's not forget Okay,
I'm not holding this about lack of knowledgy. You could
have been around that much. But the man won two
national championships as a player. If he doesn't know how
to recruit county as well as the surrounding area, I
don't know who does I mean? And the guy, by
(20:05):
the way, who for whom he's facing on Saturday for
my Miami Hurricanes head coach Many d Ass, he was, Yeah,
he was let go in favor of crystal Ball, and
Manny went up to Penn State for a little bit
of time, and then when the job came open for
Duke because Mike Elcho I believe went on to Texas
(20:26):
A and m then Manny's doing a good job of
the flood Devils. Mario Crystal Wall is the guy that
I don't think it's enough credit for what he's doing.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Will mark my word, he will.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
And I've been This is my third year covering the
Knes in this era. I covered him two years when
they were under Howard Schnellenberger.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
And this is a great program.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
All you have to do, Roder is look at their
media guide and look at all the pro prospects that
they produced. You can't anybody can't understand that the Miami Hurricanes,
to me, are a great place to play because they
will put people in the NFL need to read up
on a folks.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
That's all I can tell you.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
Yeah, well, I just hey, I'm just saying last year
they weren't the best team in even Florida. FSU was right,
it didn't matter come playoff time. But I'm saying right now,
there's no debate who's the best team in the state
of Florida college football wise, and I think the Hurricanes
are the most popular team here. So there was a
little bit of, you know, criticism of Chrystal Ball. They're
(21:25):
always is going to be in the media. Expectations scot
are very very high for this team. But they're meeting
them all. They're meeting the expectations so far.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Well, think about it this way.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
Number one, if you look at Florida State, I was
that that came by the way in Tallahassee with Candy.
We were recurring the game and you know, they were
in it till the end, they really were. Unfortunately they
came away. But now ever since Florida State got left
out of the college football playoffs, what have they done since?
Speaker 2 (21:52):
I mean they're won on seven.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
They dropped out the cliff.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
Yeah, in fact, I don't even take it a step
further then when we talk about this weekend's opponent, this
is the first time to do Blue Devils have ever
and I repeat ever, Rod defeated Florida State. Well, sure,
during and down here, you're bound to do it anyway,
So I'm not really worry about that. But yeah, all
points are n'ttaken. Now I'm going to hit you with
the digit you know, and this is this is a
(22:16):
segment I like to hit Rod with all the time.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
I really do. It's a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
And I was telling you know your fan club, you
know who I'm talking to the other day, if you
can't get into this hockey show and show up on
a regular basis, and you can't get into hockey because
I brought the most credible individual individual excuse me out
in Canada. I hear that knows a ton about this sport.
But again, tonight, nobody's competing with with Halloween.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
That's why we have a YouTube channel.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
That's why what people could come back and they can
watch it at a later date and make sure that
every show is loaded.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
Regardless of what day of the year it is.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
So and since we don't do it on Sunday and
after wrote my birthday, Rob, all he has to do
is just bring me in on his show December twenty seventh,
which is a Friday, if he's on the air at
that time.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
If he chooses to do so.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
I can tell you right now we're not on the
air that day, but we will will bring you on
in the new year.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
We're off that whole week.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
So yeah, and when you say my fan club, are
you saying, Joshua Door, is that what you're talking about?
Speaker 1 (23:16):
That's where you call great minds thinking like and you
know around nobody broadcasts that week anyways, you probably won't.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Even Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
The great What he have to say?
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Oh, even I haven't talked to them today, So okay,
but I just.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Told him this show's on Thursday nights and it's this
is where it's permanently slotted. And I'm glad that we
have that to talk about it. And also I should
point out a reminder that at around nine o'clock PM
Eastern time, we're gonna have Fire Up. As Candy Apling
hosts that show. I considered it like a country club
environment the way she handles her business. She can be
(23:55):
joined by Jeremy Bullwrick and Ralph Williams. So if you
get a chance to check out the South Florida Tribune
YouTube channel, feel free to do so. Candy runs a
good ship with those guys and I always like to
see what they do. So that show, once again, Fire Up,
hosted by Canapley. We'll start around nine o'clock pm Eastern time.
All right, now with it? Did you know I'm going
to hit rod with?
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (24:15):
And that's this While playing for the Montreal Canadians under
coach Scottie Bowman.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Get this.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Did you know that Peter Mahobblich, a guy who you're
probably all too familiar with, Okay, was given a one
hundred dollars fine for missing curfew. Get this, Rod, When
Mahabblich went up to Bowman to give him his money,
handed the Hall of Fame coach another one hundred dollars bill.
And he always says to Bowman that, So the next time, Scotty,
(24:42):
he said with a grin. Now guess what happened the
next day, got traded, got traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
Yeah, it's his brother, Frank, known as the Big m Right,
Frank Mahoblich and Pete the brother. I may have heard
that story somewhere along the line, but please tell me
where you dug that one up, mad mouth.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
I'll do that after we get done with the show.
I have new resources that I can go ahead and
do it with.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
Now keep in mind, though, listen, you know I like
to come up with different things because you know retrospecting.
You know, it's a Florida show. We talked some major
hockey stuff too, and I really look forward to it
because you're gonna remember I'm a guy who was brought
up as an original, sick kind of person with the
Red Wings, of course, So how can I not enjoy
a sport that had such an illustrated history with the
(25:33):
most Covenant Trophy and the best playoffs and the world
In my opinion, we can say what we want about
Major League Baseball and the World Series, but hockey has
the toughest and the best playoffs because with all the
hating and the physicality that you have to win sixteen games.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
It's just unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
But yeah, if you heard that story and bringing it
up again, I thought it was one. Now I'm going
to bring this up at a later date, but I
do want to mention this one. I'm thinking about it now. Okay, Ron,
you know who Michael rasmisent reminds me of the Red Wings,
reminds you of Peter Mahalal's.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
You got that tall body that can make boos that
tall guys make mm hmm, what about you?
Speaker 4 (26:14):
I would I agree with the comparison. And by the way,
the Mahabaliz story, I don't, I don't. I don't know
that I knew it.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
I'm saying I might have heard it somewhere along the line.
It's funny. Players will be players, right.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
It's interesting because the iconic George Khorn sends me messages
from time to time. Aboth the Red Wings, they stumbled
out of the gate. Seems like they're getting it together
a little bit. They had a big win over the
Orders the other night, and listen, Scott, we are hoping
that they are not in a position where they need
to trade off assets at the trade deadline like a
(26:45):
Vladimir Tara Senko.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
I think the Wings really do have it this year.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
I do, But who doesn't is Boston. They're out of
a playoff spot right now. It's been a very interesting
start to the season. And to be honest, I'm I
admire you guys where you keep you doing your baseball shows,
You're doing your football shows.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
You come on here, you do talk hockey with me.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
I'm trying to follow those as much as I can,
but hockey is the one I follow the most. You
You you're on top of it, Scott that's awesome.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
Thank you, Rod. I appreciate the kind words coming from you.
Really is we want to make sure we have different
shows that appeal to different people, but we try to
do I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
And I know the Terra Sinko. I want to believe that.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
I think I know where that's coming from and who's
at about, not like you and I don't know what
we're talking about together. As people continue to watch the program,
what's going to end up happening As I realize that
you know two guys that are caging veterans in their
business in certainly make the conversation look so much easier,
more informative, And that's what our intention is to do.
If you can't come away from any shows that I
(27:48):
produced on one that Rod is on the main objectiveness
for you people just go out there and learn and
have fun and absorb the trinity everything you know we
try to talk about hockey that I have a great
well and have you and it doesn't hurt either because
you've been on a long long time. So I welcome
to the day that we could get Serena. And another
thing I should point out to everybody as we get
ready to wrap up the program is I will be
(28:10):
inserting some gas from time to time. So even though
the show's scheduled for about thirty thirty five minutes with
the two of us, there's a chance we may bump
up that time to forty five or fifty minutes frot
as I incorporate more people.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Into what we're doing on Thursday night.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
Yeah, well, I wasn't going to do anything tonight with
Halloween for me, But that's not to say that my
bag at Trace will have a few people here and there.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
And yes, I welcome to the time that we can
bring Serina on as well.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
Yeah, well, she goes to bed quite early.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
As a matter of fact, this show, which is not
a big deal, interrupted our watching Halloween. Her Halloween tradition
is to watch the movie Halloween. To be honest, I'm
kind of tired of it. So I was happy to
get out of the house and come down here to
the studio and do the show with you. But by
the time I'm done, she would have watched Halloween and
she'll be gone to bed. So she is a go
(28:57):
to bed early type of gal. But I want to
tell you something.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
What's that on analytics?
Speaker 4 (29:03):
You know, we can talk about them for YouTube. We
can talk about them for the self Foord of Tribute
new website. We can talk about them for baseball, football, hockey.
And I just want to say I was doing the
Cats and Bolts podcast this week and got into a
conversation about analytics, and I felt like I was putting
my audience to sleep. I had to pull myself back.
But it's like anything you can go down that rabbit
(29:25):
hole of the numbers. They are quite interesting, right they are.
But I was watching the documentary on Netflix last night
before Game five of the World Series, The Comeback about
the Boston Red Sox two thousand and four, Back.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
From all three down.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Grady Little, the manager from two thousand and three of
the Red Sox, said, statistics are like a bikini, and
analytics are like a bikini. They show a lot, but
they don't show everything.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
I've never heard that one before, although I got to
tell you this right. I did go ahead and have
the opportunity to meet Grady a little one time when
I asked them about his decision to let Pedro Martinez day,
and he said, Scot there on the Big State, the
Great Littles on my finest interviews of that I should
also point out Rod Peterson will be in the second
book that I go out there, and that will be
out available, I want to say, at the beginning of
(30:14):
twenty five, somewhere at the latest by April. But this
book here is going to be a continuation of it.
The first book that I have is two hundred and
six pages. I would project, if I was going to
give you a rough estimate day about one hundred and
twenty five pages, but I'm leaning towards one hundred part
because I have just a few things.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Left, and you are, Yeah, was greatly a good guy.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
You know what, He's a really super cool guy.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
And let's not forget once upon a time the Dodgers
did train into the page as a you know, they
were there with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and they stayed here
in LA for a long time until they subsequently moved
out to Arizona where they're at Campbell Back Ranch. And
I still I met Mookie Betts a few years back,
I think twenty twenty, and the campbel Back Ranch is
(30:59):
great where they ended up.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Putting in their paired with the Chicago Whites.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
All right, last thing I want to ask you about
some talks about the World Series ry.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
To be honest, it didn't really catch my interest off
the start, other than what Freddie Freeman was doing making history.
But to go up three nothing, you know, people were
starting to compare it to the Stanley Cup Final, especially
when the Yankees were coming back, and you know, I
talked about my wife going to bed early. I went
to bed last night. But the Yankees up five nothing, Scott,
I thought they were going to put it to bed.
I went to bed at the start of the fifth inning.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Dude, Well, I was broadcasting and I was watching this
whole thing melt down. But that's all right. Great to
be able to get to talk about all different sports,
even though I know you're bread and butter is hockey.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
Yeah, no, no, no, I'm just saying it. Listen. I'm
I'm old. So I went to bed.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
I thought they had it in the bag, got up
this morning and was shocked to learn that the Dodgers
had won it. And I just I can see why
people hate the Yankees. I could see it. The amount
that they've won, the payroll, that they have, the arrogance
of their fans, I get it. And by the time
this I guess I'll tell you what. I started the
series chairing for the Yankees. By the end I was
cheering for the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
Well, for what is worth, the Dodgers have won their
eighth championship mm HM franchise history.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
All right, Katie, ably take us home with the final
station breaks.
Speaker 5 (32:19):

interacting with his audience in Canada. I mean keep in

as far as I'm concerned, the older you get, we're
like fine wine.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
The older you get, better you get. So that's how
I come out my outlookers.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
