Speaker 1 (00:26):
Good evening, everybody. Welcome to Fire Up Florida, and I
am fired up to be a dis group of people.
And we're talking about Rod Peterson, the architect of Cats
and Bolt podcasts, is always nice enough to join us
on Monday night, first show of the week. We get
it started with old Rod. Peter said, welcome to the
big show.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Good to see everybody, Good to be seen.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Hi George, Yes, and Hi George Hike, George Ker what
this guy is? Unnatural Roger natural roadcaster?
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Des I Ah, this is good stuff.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Man.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
We of our hockey, We love Florida. So let's do it. Guys.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
All right, Well, you know what, we got a loaded show,
so Folkso any comments and questions in the chat will
will get him up. George Koon's going to read them
because my voice has to be preferred for two of
these bad boys. But anyways, let's start this way. Tampa
Bay Lightning hairn for a much bigger change. When the
Bolts open the twenty twenty twenty four to twenty five
campaign at the Carolina Hurricanes on October eleven, it marks
(01:27):
the first time is the two thousand and eight that
they'll be without Steven Stamptons, the franchise leader endpoints was
eleven hundred and thirty seven and Gains played with ten
hundred and eighty two as he signed with the National
Predators as a free agent on July one after being
dissatisfied with the Lightning offer for the team. Icon Tampa
(01:49):
Bay added forward Jake guns seventy seven points in sixty
seven games last season with Pittsburgh and Carolina as he
means as a means to replace stamp Coos, but it's
nowhere near a guarantee. Well, the architect of who wrote
this is gonna lead off. Since we're doing baseball, we're
leading up with this topic. All right, Rod, what's your
(02:11):
take on this?
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Well, my mind went about eighteen different directions with that,
because I still think and a lot of Panthers fans
think that the Lightning are gonna regret getting rid.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Of Steven Stamcos here in the offseason.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
But I've got Bolts fans and NHL pundits and podcast
hosts writing me going no, no, no, Rod, you don't
understand they're rebuilding and they couldn't afford to pay stamp
Coos that amount of money. Why would you give an
aging veteran that amount of money if you're going to
be rebuilding. And I'm like, well, well, number one, have
you ever been a general manager? People that are writing
(02:46):
me no, Number two, you don't. I don't think should
run a team off a spreadsheet. You know what I'm
Steven Stamkost is a hard and soul guy, career leader
in games played in points. So you were reading from
my self word tributing problem from a couple of weeks ago, right, Yeah,
(03:06):
I guess they wanted to go younger. They gave Gensel
the same amount of money. Guys, So I got people
saying to me, Rod, you don't understand they're going younger.
They had to give it a Samcost. I'm like, no, No,
where did the Lightning ever say they're in a rebuild.
I feel that people have misread that they did. They
wanted to move on from Samcost. That's true, but I
don't like the way that they did it, and I
(03:27):
don't think they're going to be better off for it.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
What do you think, George?
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Well? I agree, I mean, you know, this is the
type of guy. It's a franchise player. This is exactly
the fans in Edmonton went through when one Wayne Gretzky
was let go or in Detroit way back when when
they let go of Marcel Beyond. All I'm saying is
that I have to agree because Stamkos is a franchise player.
(03:52):
He's the heart and soul of that team. I know
that ireser men loved him down there, and so did
your other you know their previous management figures. But I'm
telling you what you know, once you get into this
certain ear, I mean, teams get a little bit scary
about dishing out all the money. I guess there's a
certain level at a certain age, if you will that a player,
(04:14):
they must feel that they can't get enough back in return.
I don't know what it is, but I agree with
what you said, Rod. I mean, I don't think that
they should have let him slide out. I mean, you know,
this is a guy that's kind of the king of
the franchise down there. He's got a lot more great
here's a hockey left on, kid yourself. He's going to
rack up a lot of points and he's gonna come
back and hurt that franchise, of course when he plays
(04:36):
in his new uniform. But yeah, that one had my
head shaking. I mean, even if Detroit had gotten them,
it still would have had my head shaken. But they
still they still lost their heart and saw if their great.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Sjeorge, let's set the record straight about Marcel Dion. Okay,
Marcel Dion let the Red Wings go. They didn't let
h Goo. They didn't want him to go. This guy
was racking up a ton of This is what he
really was from. Marcel Dion wanted to go to la
and he did. And I guess he wasn't so enthusiastic
about playing in Olympia Stadium. But you know, with no disrespect,
(05:10):
I wouldn't be eating there for for your regular dinner.
There's not a lot of entertainment around that particular place.
And I'm not being sarcastic. If you've ever been there,
you'll understand what I'm talking about. Mark O Dion let
the Red Wings go, and they had to do what
they had to do to get suitable confrontation. Now I
believe a return on that with Harry Harker and Dan
(05:32):
Maloney as who I remember. Well, it's not like they
went out there and lost the guy for nothing. How
about that Rob. That's a head scratcher, isn't it. Now.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
And by the way, I had I don't know if
you guys know a gentleman by the name of Lou Gambling,
but I had them on my daytime talk show today,
that Rod Peterson show. He posted a program out of
Detroit on the Sports Network and we did get a
Red Wings update. So I'm not gonna say that to
the end his take on the Red Wings for both
of you guys, But just to bring this into this
millennium about Marceldion, I saw a question the other day
(06:08):
who's the current face of the National Hockey League And
there were four options and they were like Connor McDavid,
Connor Bedard, Austin Matthews and I can't remember the fourth
doesn't matter. And I'm like, when Connor Bedard was coming
up in junior guys, I broadcast his games in Canada
and people were saying, who would you compare him to?
(06:29):
And I'm like, you know, I don't, I don't know.
There hasn't been a guy like this guy since. And
a fan wrote me and said, Marcel Dion, whoa yeah,
built like a d battery second short right, but shifting
with an unbelievable shot. So when you're watching Connor Bedard
this year. Think of Marceldion. That's what I think of
(06:51):
when you brought him up.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Well, that's why your head, your body language really temp you.
I'm starting to get used to you, mister Peters, and
I hell no, that's good. And so that isn't so
bad at all. I mean, Marcel Dion to me is
the kind of guy that I enjoyed watching as a kid.
There weren't a lot of things Rod that went right
during the Red Wings period during the seventies, and nobody
(07:12):
wanted to play there. Bruce Norris was the I believe
that Bruce Norris was the owner, and he really did
have an interest in it until he moved it to
Mike Gillich. But my point when we talk about this
particular subject is cost to me deserved a better exit
from Tampa. He really did. And to guide them and
be a part of a few cups is important. But
(07:35):
you know what, here's the thing. He's going up to Nashville,
Barry tros as your general manager. And Andrew Brewnett, okay,
the former Panthers coach that you ought to know all
too well anyways, is your head goat and not like
he's going to that band of place, and I'll be
partial towards Bill Wickett, who's a been a good friend
of mine for years. Go ahead, Ron, I.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Don't have anything other than you got a very motivated
Steven stam cooast in Nashville. I think they're all motivated,
all those guys you just mentioned. Yeah, And I just I'll.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Say it again.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
I just will see you on our Cats and Bolts
podcasts that we do with question came up from a viewer.
Will both Florida teams make the playoffs in the Staly
Cup Playoffs this year?
Speaker 2 (08:13):
And honestly, I said no, and we.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Got in a hell of a fight over Serena and
I am a co host.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
She thinks they will.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
I don't think the lightning recovered from this for a
long time.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Wow, Well that's why we let off with that great stuff,
all right. Well, you know what, We're gonna go back
a little bit towards the summer and as we get
ready for the season. It's not surprising that listen to this,
three point two million people watch the Bruins mayple leaves
Game seven on ESPN, the largest first Round Game seven
audience in NHL history. I'm gonna give you two words, okay,
(08:48):
and then Rod your next Okay, Original six go ahead.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Yeah, I guess it was the hell of a story.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
I mean, the Leaves and the Bruins have a history
just amongst themselves, let alone Original six teams. It was
a tremendous series. There was a lot riding on it.
I don't think it hurts that, I'll be honest with you.
Do you guys put as much stock in the national
nationality of NHL players as Canadians to the fact that
Austin Matthews is an American? Do you guys care, because
(09:19):
it's all we talked about in Canada that Austin Matthews
is an American President of the Beliefs.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Do you care or American captain?
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Sorry me personally, I don't.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
But I don't either. I don't think it matters to
me at all. I don't know what I know. Issues
are different for Canadians. But yeah, I don't get upset
about that.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Yeah, but I'll tell you one anytime, ESPN could draw
a three point two million viewers for a Game seven
for a first round series, and I'm talking to ESPN, Okay,
you have to kind of at least address it a
little bit, knowing that you aren't dealing with original six
Iron had the won anything since what nineteen sixty seven,
if I remember, Boston wins a lot, so went not
(10:05):
to worry, and you know Toronto doesn't. I don't think
Einstein can figure it out. Neither can David Copperfield. So
let me know, okay, where some of my newest nieces
and nephews are going to be by the time they
do figure it out. And who knows if he'll be
alive to see it. Anyways, I don't know. Well, I'm
not sure they're able to get it right.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
There was an argument to me me some tried to
make that these were the greatest Stanley Cup playoffs in history,
these last ones in the springing twenty twenty four.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
I don't know if.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
They were or not, but the ratings were buffo and
I think, if I'm not mistaken, the Bruins got up
three to one, the least came back to force game seven,
great storylines, and we saw what happened to the Stalley
Cup Final two Panthers ub three nothing orders come back
to force game seven.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
So maybe they were the greatest playoffs ever.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
I looked forward, not back, but they were good. I'll
tell you that.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Well.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
The other thing I was going to say is it
surprises me with that stat from Scott is the fact
that the one team wasn't an American team. And I
only say that that makes it even more impressive that
this was highly rated, I know, the original six, but
also the fact that the Canadian audience you know, doesn't
(11:16):
get counted. Am I correct in those ratings because it's
an American rating? I would imagine because it's not an
American it's on American channel, you said, ESPN. So all
that being said, it makes it even more impressive to me.
And yes, those are two great franchises. Holy Kyle, you
can't get much better than that unless you're a Detroit
(11:37):
or New York fan or Chicago whatever. But it's just
it was it was exciting. I have to agree, and
I mean Rod and Scott, those were exciting games. There
were a lot of comebacks and like you said, teams
that went the distance game sevens and and came back
from nowhere a brink of elimination. So yeah, I mean ESPN, Scott,
(12:00):
you and I've talked about because we've knowed other for
so many years. Well the fact that ESPN was not
in the package. But all that being said, NHL, you
did the right thing. ESPN is your partner.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
And now, well let me add this too. Okay. I
can't sit here and beat up on ESPN because, let's say,
face reality, all the important, all the meaningful games end
up on ABC. So you can't say they don't have
a national network partner because that is not the case.
So you got ABC and ESPN and that's when they
knew where to put a certain game. Go ahead, Ron,
(12:32):
I can tell you're chomping at the bet to go
and addsw up to this. Go ahead.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
The only small thing is ESPN probably announced those biggest
ratings ever. But the NHL likes to throw both countries together,
so the ratings are Canadian television plus America, just to
make the number bigger. And it seems to work because
again we're coming off the greatest year of NHL hockey.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Here's the question for you two. Is it going to
get better this year? I think it might.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
You know what I'm gonna do it lot, I'll do
something like to do in broadcasting. Ron. It gave you
two ways to look at it. One TBD to be
determined and the other one is I'll take the fath
so because I really don't know it really. I think
a lot of it will depend on who are the content,
who are the contenders and who are not the contenders really,
(13:20):
and then we'll be able to make that. But I
like the question, I really really do. It's just unfortunately
you being the got to ask me the question. I'm
giving you the obvious answer that a lot of people
will probably give you, and that is really a whole lot.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
I don't know either. I think it could be depends
on what the situation goes on and how these teams respond,
and there's so many players moving around. Like you said,
it's a chess match, and uh, you know, the teams
that we hope are going to be possibly better, we'll see.
And like you said, your prediction, RD, do you think
one of these standby one of the stall warks I
(13:55):
should stay is going to fall out of the playoffs.
That's stunning news, Tampa Bay Lightning your prediction. But all
that being said, yeah, I mean you know it's gonna
be hard to top last season, no question about it.
That could happen though, But we'll see we're gonna.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Bring candy applig in here. She has a couple things
she wants to share with the audience as well as
we have a station break, So go ahead and candy.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
Okay, let's do the station break first.

You never know what we're going to be talking about.
The South Florida Tribune published a book last year. It

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Hello Rod, Yeah, I get all robs people, robs people
ready to go. And obviously as we continue to move along,
candy isn't done yet.
Speaker 6 (15:44):
All right, you can no, we have two shots we
want to put up on the screen.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Rod.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
You can talk a little bit about this one.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Ah, well that was last Wednesday when I was so
rudely interrupted this show to go inside and get the
photo with Phil Pritchard there, the keeper.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Of the Cup.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
That was a tremendous night at Cafe Seville in Fort Lauderdale.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
So yeah, hey, thank you for throwing that up. What
else you got?
Speaker 6 (16:11):
And then, because you're not the only one that's taking
a picture with the cup.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
When it was over in Tampa Bay, right, Scott.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
Oh yeah, yeah, cover in the All Star Game there swims, Well,
go ahead and take a shot of undoubtedly the toughest
trophy in sports to get your hands, skate feet on whatever.
So there, Ron, we wanted to make sure we went
out there and let everybody know that you know, you
had that opportunity, and I would tell anybody that if
you have an opportunity, that you go out there and
(16:41):
take it and gon't worry about it. And that's exactly
what you did. I'm glad you were able to go
remote from there, and we just wanted to remind you
in the audience that it's real. The man got a
picture with Laurd Stanley.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Yeah, you guys look like a couple of kids in
that shot. But one thing, Candy, hopefully at some point
promote tonight as your merchandise. I need a hat and
I need a sweatshirt because I would have worn one
maybe both with Lord Stanley there, so I got to
get my hands.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Out of him.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Great stuff, Rod, great stuff. We'll continue to We'll let
you know, and by the way, we're looking forward to
getting together with you and Serena later in the week.
All right, let's continue on. Why did I title this show?
Who was the NHL's first millionaire. I'll tell you why.
A guy by the name of Bobby Or fifty three
years ago signed the NHL's first million dollar contract. Get this,
(17:32):
Or was coming off a league record one hundred and
thirty nine point season. In the first year of the deal,
Or won the Norris Hart CONSMKE and Stanley Cup. The
contract was a five year deal worth two hundred thousand dollars.
But people, there's a little trivia out there. Bobby Or,
of all the millionaires out there, was in one and
you should be thankful for Okay, Rod, we all know
(17:55):
what Bobby Orr is in NHL history, but did you
know that he was the first either got a million.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Well, we talked a little bit about this last week
because I remember talking about who's on the Mount Rushmore
the National Hockey late right, and we said Bobby or,
Wayne Gretzky, Gordon.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Howe, and who's the fourth.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
It's still to be decided, obviously, But do you guys
remember and I don't mean to throw a curveball here,
but Dennis Satchuk signing with the Cincinnati Stingers of the
World Hockey Association for a million dollars right around that
same time. He's from my hometown. So a million dollars
in the million dollars now is a lot of money.
(18:33):
I can't imagine in the seventies people must have been
They must be thought thinking the.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Same thing back then as people are now.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
With Dak Prescott signing for sixty million a year or
Show Hey for seventy million a year, even though they're
differing sixty eight, I can't even imagine what people were.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Thinking back then with that amount of money.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
The fans, I mean, oh yeah, we've started on either
of those two guys. I'll tell you what. You'll have
Collie power ears when I get through with you on
those So but day, well, we may talk about it
and have a little fun with it. And one thing
about the show is why, while we do talk primarily hockey,
if I ever see something interesting that we're going to
talk about it, I won't take twice about inserting it
(19:11):
at whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
So I just want to yeah, I just want to
add Scott and Rod that. Yeah, and I said this
last week too. If anybody deserved that money, obviously Gordy
Hall would have been my first choice, but at that
point Bobby Orr was obviously the head and shoulders the
best player around in the NHL at that time. So
(19:32):
if anybody deserved that million dollars, boy Bobby sure did.
Great guy, class guy. It's to shame his career had
to end early. A Lah Sandy coolefex.
Speaker 7 (19:43):
So.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
I mean, it's just, uh, you know, Bobby Or is
just class guy. And there is a Bobby Or museum.
I'll put that on my list, Scott that I want
to go see someday with you.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Yeah, I know that'd be pretty cool. Hey, Rod, Georgia
Eichlorn and I have done a lot together. One of
the things we did do together was cool. I took
him to the Indy five hundred is what I did,
and him and I just had a field day.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
All right.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Candy wants to put the numbers up there again, so
for those of you that are watching and didn't hear
me verbally say it, we'll put them up on the screen.
Go ahead, Candy, put her up there so they can
all see it in YouTube and George and you get
to read it, all.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Right, Bobby Or, she says he holds the record for
most points and assist in a single season by defenseman.
Or want a record eighth consecutive Can you believe that
Norris trophies as the an Angel's best defensemen and three
consecutive Heart trophies as the league's most valuable player.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Wow, wow, wow, have you do these stuff?
Speaker 7 (20:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (20:42):
What I'm not going out there and bringing Regis filming
back to light. But his show was called Who Wants
to Be a Millionaire? Well, guess what? Who is the
edite for millionaire? I don't know if my what do
you call it? Skills?
Speaker 4 (21:02):
My?
Speaker 3 (21:02):
What your announcer skills?
Speaker 1 (21:04):
All right? What do they call him? And trill equips
and all that? Somebody I don't know, I can remember.
We go ahead in person. That's it. Thank you? After
what I was looking for. So I don't have to
go to sleep tonight or whatever I get anywhere now
you can't. Number one thing is the era that Bobby
or played. Can you imagine if he played.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
Albury's no getting I mean, any new fans over the
last ten years don't really know any different. But up
until the last ten years ago when Bobby Or, I mean,
nobody could catch him right, But now with the with
the skill of the stick handling and the fact that
nobody you're not not you can hit just nobody does
imagine what he would do now. I had this chat,
(21:48):
by the way, with Lanny McDonald in Calgary, or I
spent the last two summers prior to this one.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Who's just announced today's stepping down his chair for the
Hockey Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
By the way, yeah, Lanny is.
Speaker 4 (21:59):
In the five hundred Bolt club in the National Lucky
League along with Marcelda, And I said, how many do
you think you'd scoring today's game? And Lannie's like, it's
kind of pointless to even talk about that, because how
would you know?
Speaker 2 (22:12):
You know, but you can't deny.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
It, said, totally different games from Lannie's day, and certainly
Bobby yours game.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Well, then I got a homework assignment for you. Okay, Rod,
you're ready, here's your homework assignment for one of these shows. Okay,
I want you to give me your opinion. Okay, how
you think Wayne Gretzky would have done in the original six.
Would he have a massy amount of points that he did?
We're I got to talk about tonight, but that's what
I'd like you to address. You don't even have to
give me an opinion. I'm just giving you something you
(22:40):
want to do. That way, get your time to think
about it. You don't have to come up with it now.
But I like the fact that you talk about Lanny
McDonald about this era versus the old, and that's why
you got my wheels turning Rod about how Wayne would
have done back in the day where everybody was beating
the daylights out of each other. Anyway, my mom once
bought me a book. I don't know if you ever
got it, but I think it was called Blood on
(23:01):
the Ice. Do you remember that hockey play? Yeah? I
got it somewhere here. But anyways, you know you won't
see much of that anymore or not that much, so
all right, well go ahead. So let's all right, Well
we visit one topic that I want you to really
put your heart and soul in like you don't anyways,
you always do. But we're going to talk about Johnny
(23:24):
goudreau family. Now his wife is expecting their third child.
So let me go over everything with you based on
what we're going to talk about. George and I we
weren't happy to comment after you, okay, Rod. And that's
the accused drunk driver and the tragic crash. Excuse me
to kill Blue Jackets. Johnny Goudreau and brother Matthew worked
(23:48):
at a rehab center. And his name is Sean Higgins
he's forty three years of age as an employee of Gooddenzil,
which is getting publicity for all the wrong reasons, a
nonprofit drug and alcohol treatment and recovery center whose headquarters
is in Norristown, Pennsylvania, retarded to two bounts of vehicular
(24:12):
homicide after he struck and killed the brothers on Binites
as they were in town for their sister's wedding on
that Friday. And what he ended up doing is he
went from behind trying to pass the two vehicles higg
and sold police and he had about five or sick
beers and obviously then failed a series of sobriety tests. Now,
(24:36):
the question I'm going to ask you, well, you comment
in general, but the follow up question I'm going to
give you the rod is what type of punishment should
he get? Okay, go ahead, Oh.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Well there's a curve ball for you.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
Now.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Of course, I'm the original Canadian.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
I just got my green card in March, so I
haven't been down here that long. The punishments in America
are far, far, fard more harsh for these types of
incidents than they are of Canada. So in Canada he'd
be looking three to four years in vehicular manslaughter. You know,
this is a tragedy in my mind when this happened,
(25:17):
went to the humbold Broncos crash and I don't need
to remind you guys of that semi driver blows through
with stops on and kills like hockey team's bus, kills
sixteen people. I believe he's still in jail, but that's
a four or five six year sentence for killing sixteen.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
People here drunk driving admitting to it.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
I didn't realize that he worked in a recovery center,
and I'm not sure you guys knew. I'm ten years
sober and I work as a mental health and addiction
recovery coach and fifty percent of my time is spent
on that. If not more so, what's his past history,
what's his level of remorse?
Speaker 2 (25:56):
He doesn't seem to have a lot.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
You know, I'm sure there's hockey fans would like to
see him locked away in the key, thrown away. My
guess he's probably going to be looking at four or
five six years.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
That's just my guess.
Speaker 7 (26:07):
I can top of him.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
You think Johnny Goudrou is looking at four to six
years the guy that killed him. I mean, I'm sorry,
Sean Higgins, You're predicted four to six years in Canada
would be I'm just familiarizing myself with the American laws,
which I know a lot more munch. That's okay, doesn't matter. Hey, listen,
you know what. I've kept this topic in here. I
wanted you to comment on it, and you did exactly that. Okay, George,
(26:31):
we go ahead. Let's revisit it. All you need to
do is ask the punishment part. You already know the particulars.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Yeah, I'll stick with my statement from last last week,
and I said twenty years for each offense, which I
know is astronomical forty years. But I'm sorry what he did.
There's no excuse for. There is no remorse. Like you said, Rod,
this is incredible. I watched part of the funeral online
today and it was the saddest thing I've ever seen.
(26:59):
The tributes and the stamina and the commentary from his
teammates and his wife and his sister in law, and
it's just incredibly sad. And this guy. First of all,
you're stupid. You are absolutely stupid to get behind that wheel.
You never should have. Second of all, who in the
(27:20):
right mind thinks they could pass two vehicles like that,
and it was either dusk or it was getting dark.
I'm sure out Even so, you don't go trying to
pass two vehicles on a narrow road like that. Hell,
you don't even know what's coming around the bend. It's
very hard, as Scott and I know an you two
Rod and driving cars and trying to pass one, let
alone two. But all that being said, this guy is
(27:43):
he's got to get locked up for a long long time.
And I said last week, and I'll stand by it.
Twenty years if he's found guilty for each of the offenses.
Twenty plus twenty for me is forty.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
I don't want to leave him.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
I don't want to see him again.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Well at least you know you're math Okay, I'll give
you that. But here I when I mentioned Jennifer Lee Cobb,
great show. Thanks Jen. She's one of my favorite people
Rod that I've ever had on here. She's been on
the MotorCity Mad Mouse Show as well as other shows.
And no thing about Jen. I mean, she's a great friend,
but she's the person who goes out there and I've
(28:19):
had around shows talk about Parkinson's Parkinson's disease, excuse me,
and making people aware. So you want to talk about
a first class woman. And by the way, she used
to be a cheerleader for the Saint Louis Rams many
years ago. But the thing about jen she always works
hard to fundraise for Parkinson's disease and awareness. And I've
(28:40):
had a lot of people and actually she happens to
be in my book in Lessons from the Microphone is,
which she does. So for her contributions to what we've done.
So Jennifer, thank her very much for taking a little
bit of time out of your Monday to pop in here.
We really really appreciate you, and you know how I
feel about you anyways. But that's it is what it is,
(29:00):
George Rod. You know, there's some great people out there.
This lady John She's questionably one of them. Now my
take on mister Higgins capital punishment, death penalty, and I'll
tell you why, okay, drug And I'll tell you one
thing they do out they go out there and do
(29:20):
a whole lot more overseas. They'll kill you out there,
they'll execute you. You know, you talk about how lenient
things are a little bit in Canada and United States,
become a lot more harsher. But overseas it they'll they'll
execute you. But I say capital punishment, death penalty. No
ifans or boughts about it, that's I mean. But now
(29:41):
we're thinking about you know, but in Florida, you know,
what can you do. We've had a guy, Nicholas Crews,
went out there and had a major incident over a
Marjorie Stilm in Douglas and he pleaded his way out
of the death penalty and as a result, you know,
he got life in president. We'll see how long that's
going to take until somebody ultimately wipes him out, blows
(30:04):
twenty two. Thank you very much for popping and really
appreciate you. So, you know, but I'm saying death penalty
and I'm backing down on it. It's not like he killed
one guy. Of course one is too many, but he
killed two and they were brothers, and they were riding bikes,
seriously riding bikes, and we're still intoxicated, you know, no excuses.
(30:25):
I say death penalty. But it's interesting how the three
of us have what totally different opinions on it, which
is why I wanted to bring it back for a
new audience to go out there, all right, George Reid
Candy's information.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
Okay, Yeah. Police said that the driver, the forty three
year old Sean M. Higgins, was suspected of being under
the influence of alcohol, in charge with two counts of
death by auto, along with reckless driving, possession of an
open container, and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle. Thank
you Candy for those facts.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
There you go. What else can I say? That penalty
capital punishment. I'm not ranting. I'm just saying I am
not a nice guy. And if let me tell you,
if the Godro family heard me say this, I don't
think they're going to be upset with me. I can
tell you that because obviously it's unfortunate that these two
brothers died, let alone the timing of it being so
(31:23):
poor because the next day was their sister's wedding. And
to compound the problem, now Meredith Goudro is having their
third child. I mean believes what more does it take?
Speaker 4 (31:37):
Yeah, well, just to clarify, I thought the question was
what will he get?
Speaker 1 (31:45):
But if you're saying what should he get?
Speaker 2 (31:49):
I mean capital punishment.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
I know a lot of people that have been guilty
of dui offenses.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
They were a lot luckily luckier than this guy.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
Obviously they didn't fill a keep, but ten twelve, fifteen years,
I think this is what he probably should get.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
I think he'll get less than that. I guess we'll
find out.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Well, it's okay. I don't mind you coming back on
there and talking about what you do in Canada and
then go out there and absorb what we're talking about.
Adding hero. But that's not wrong with that at all.
I think it's really good. Joshua Door a friend of
the show, roy Y Squad. What's going on? Well you are,
Joshua Door. This guy here, you know, was very loyal
to the show. We appreciate you popping in. All right,
(32:30):
you know what we're gonna turn over to Rod. You're
gonna give us the latest on the Florida Panthers. Okay, Rod,
take it away.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
Other than the Stanley Cuffs been making it too or
here through South Florida.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
I guess I haven't been able to tell you the stories.
I'll tell you a few quick ones.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
That Phil Pincherd that you showed in the photo there,
the keeper of the cup is a long time friend
of mine. I think I met him of the two
thousand and one Memorial Cup, which is Canada's junior championship.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
There you go fill on the right. The keeper of
the Cup is his.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
Twitter handle and Instagram and he said he will be
in South Florida until October the eighth, the home opener
when the Boston Bruins are here and we'll see the
banner go up at Ameri Bank Arena.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
I don't want to scoop myself here.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
A lot of that info is going to go in
my column this week in the South Florida Tribune. Guys,
some interesting stories from Phil Pritchard with you know, sort
of how often does he clean the cup? How many
countries has he been to with the cup? What are
some of the wildest stories with the cups? So it's
going all over. It's been at schools, it's been at
police stations. There's that trainee camp is opening, I believe
(33:30):
the end of the week, and there will be no
rookie tournament in Astaro, Florida.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
There was last year.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
Selena and I went to it and had a plastic Nashville, Carolina, Tampa, Florida.
There's a rookie tournament, but it's in Nashville this year
and we're not going, so that is actually yeah, I
believe it's next weekend, so time's flying, guys.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Yeah, you know, I'd like to meet Phil Pritcher, if
you can make that happen. I would certainly like to
meet him, hang out with you, Serena Candy, we can
have a little bit of fun, and who knows, maybe
we'll bring him up as a guest on this show
if he's interested, bring him all over the place anytime.
You know, we can always bring on good guests. I
certainly like to do everything on our power to give
our audience the opportunity to meet two people as well.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
And of course, yeah, and of course I've met Field
many times in Detroit when it was just a routine.
We'd expect him to be hit Joe Louis Arena every season,
it seemed like. So he's a great guy.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Yeah he is.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
And the keeper of the Cup. I love that title.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Well, look forward to catching up with him while we
have a little bit of time. Rod, I'm going to
let you go out there and for the audience tuning
in for the first time, I want you to go
out there and educate people about the cats and Bolts
Podcasts and where they can find it, because I know
you and Serena do a tremendous job on it. So
for those of you that are listening to the first
time or have gone out there and paid attention, Rob
(34:54):
the Floorisher, talk about Cats and Bolts, what you've done
in the past, when you created it, what plans you
have going forward over and the fact that I am
looking forward to getting on there one day. Whether I'm
blows or not, I don't know who knows.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
This is my fourth This is my fourth season covering
the Florida Panthers and by the way, guys, Joe Quintinville
was the coach when I first got here, so think
about that.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
That's been a while.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
This, though, is our second season with the Cats and
Volts podcasts. Serena Taylor, my wife, and I host the show.
Last year we won an award for the fastest doing
podcast for podcast jackets here in Florida all genres.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
So you can find it on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple podcasts.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
Cats and Bolts the letter in Cats and Bolts look
it up.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
We have a lot of fun on there.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
Last week was our first show of the season, and
we'll be doing it right up into the Stanley Cup Final.
Here's hoping the Panthers go back to a third strake.
Florida is the state of hockey. Sorry for anybody that
doesn't like that. Five straight Stanley Cup Finals have been
in this beautiful state. We're calling it the state of hockey.
And so you need to know kats and you can
follow my personal Twitter. You see at Rod Peterson my
(36:03):
name on the screen there. Look it up all the
links out there to cats and bolts.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
We have a lot of fun with it, and Rob
and I have a lot of plans going for so
for those of you that are just joining us, George
and I and Rob, certainly the three of us and
hopefully Serena will be interested coming out and will continue
to add new wrinkles as the show continues to develop.
Rosh Odor Rob, he said, where's your cow bell?
Speaker 2 (36:26):
It is packed up.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
I just listened.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
I'm excited. He's talking about the daily Rod Peterson Show.
That I have a cow bell that I rang basically
when I get excited.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
So I rang it a lot.
Speaker 4 (36:37):
And just this week, gentlemen, I've rented a new studio.
I'm moving into a new studio on Federal and I'm
excited about that. So my stuff right now is packed
up it and moved into my new studio for my
daytime show. Joshua found me on there and he's a
regular viewer for some reason, he likes it just.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Like this show. Okay, I've gotten to know josh I
know this guy back from our days of the Curl
Spring camer of Commerce and some people you get to know,
and some people have hard to do Joshua and I,
believe it or not, this guy used to live in
my same community when him and his lovely wife went
out there and Rebecca, by the way, I don't want
(37:15):
to really go crazy there. Him and his lovely white
Rebecca rented out here until they moved north in Palm
Beach County. And you know what, We've always had a
lot of fun together. He's always been a good friend
of mine. And you know, there's no bigger hockey fan
in my opinion, in South Florida than this guy. I mean,
he really is. He's passionate, certainly passionate about in Florida
panthers and all that, and more power to him. And
(37:36):
I think what our goal is not only to reach
the people in Florida. But this is a national broadcast vote.
Kanye gave you the particulars, even though certainly it is
on fire up Florida. Our goal is to attract all
hockey fans, period and as Rod and I and George
continue to do more and more things, that's exactly what
we're going to continue to do as this thing goes on.
(37:57):
So you know, when he finds something he likes to watch,
this guy gives you everything you got, and more power
to them, and more power to everybody that tunes in.
You know, I just have to You never know if
you're going to meet somebody Rod and toast masters or
whether it's a chamber of commerce, and you'll find out
who those hidden gems are that you bring on a
show all sudden boom. You know you got somebody out
(38:18):
there that knows a lot more. So I'm always looking
for people to come on the air, no matter where
you're at.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
I'm a little I need both of you guys to
clue me in on something here, because sure, we started
this show in Florida doing hockey. The Captain books podcasters,
so we just felt there wasn't enough for a hockey cover,
and that's what we listen and what the success of
the show isn't anything we did. There was an appetite
for it. Why Scott did you reach out to me
(38:45):
because you said, our your audience wants more hockey coverage,
and You're like, I'm busy enough, would you mind doing
the hockey?
Speaker 2 (38:51):
I'm like, I would love to.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
Now.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
Where I grew up in Western Canada, our cable was Detroit,
wdiv More, Krim, Carmen out of.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
It, all that gang, you know, right, all of them.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
And it didn't look like the Red Wings were struggling
for coverage at all.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
And I'm sure they're not right.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
There's Red Wings dedicated shows up there on radio and television.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
They got their full time tell of us.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
I was amazed.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Filaments when I got to Florida, the lack of coverage
and to be honest, the lack of hockey community.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Well let me tell you, yeah, I'll take you this
step further complete your thoughts. Sorry about that. I thought
you were gone, but go ahead.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Oh, I said, go ahead, all right.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
Well, here's the thing. I brought on a guy by
the name of guy by the name of kr Lombardia,
who was a baseball coach when I was attending courses
over at the University of South Florida, and when my
former employers at Tampa Tribune, you know, was absorbed by
the Tampa Bay Times. They're what the high school and
prep coverage there, and so you talk about a void.
(39:56):
And I mean, listen, I covered prep sports when I
was at the University's Florida Rod for a couple of
years eighty four or eighty five, and then of course
I graduated in eighty six. So I can appreciate the
fact that when you have a niche type of thing
like you do, you want to wonder why. But I'm
going to tell you something. Florida's a tough market. The
unfortunate disadvantage that you've had in the state, at least
(40:19):
early on, is there was a fair amount of losing
going on. And you know, let's say, face a reality, Rod,
Florida is a very fickle market. It really is. But
when you start winning and you start catching on, then
they probably absorbed to you, is what they do. I mean,
who would have thought many years ago the Florida Panthers
are build a new practice facility out in Fort Waderdale
(40:41):
by the Fort Lauderdale More Memorial Auditorium where I covered
boxing events. But they certainly picked the nice area up
me highlight the ident because it's only fifteen minutes away
from where I live over here in North Proward County.
So you know, I think I give you a lot
of credit for what you and Serena are doing. I
really do that. You guys went out there and threw
(41:03):
your hat in the ring. And I think that when
you continue to collaborate with other organizations, that's how you
build the success off of one another. You know, let's
face the reality. The thing I tell a lot of
the folks that I work with this, if you work
with me, you're gonna end up on Google, because I'll
tell you we have a great relationship with Google. So
(41:24):
as you continue to progress in this system, Rod, and
let me use those words again, progress in the system,
don't be surprised at Google, Rod Peterson, and all of
a sudden be connected. We're connecting the dots and you
and I And then go up there and give me
a response to that that, hey, you know what, this
isn't bad. It's only going to get better. Yeah, I'm
a positive individual anyways, And that's how it is.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
Well We didn't.
Speaker 4 (41:46):
We didn't start the podcast to be stars or for
any other reason that we want to talk hockey.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
Period.
Speaker 4 (41:51):
That was it, and people seem to like it because
I think people get into this business for the wrong reasons.
I've always got into it because I like doing the job.
And you guys have been doing it long enough. I
think you know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 3 (42:03):
Well, you guys, yeah, but don't forget you know, coming
from Detroit, like you alluded to earlier, and Scott too,
this is a you know, original six market. So but
I'm going to give hats off. I'm going to have
hats off, you know. Say what you want about the
NHL and this and that, but the big experiment, let's
call it, you know, the Florida experiment. It's paying off
(42:24):
big time now, big time. And you know what, I
tell you what and Dallas and we talked a lot
about Arizona not working out, but you know, La to
a certain extent did. But we're talking about two good,
solid teams in Florida, like you said, the past half
dozen to ten years even before that. So there is
an appetite down there and I'm so glad to hear that.
(42:46):
You Scott and you Rod are are helping because there
isn't a whole lot out there on the stations and
on the airwaves, on podcasting. So that's great. Hockey is
alive and well in Florida. And oh yeah, and it
goes and it shows with with what you guys are saying.
Speaker 1 (43:05):
Yeah, but all you have to do it. I mean,
Stanley cups these two franchises and one. I mean that's all.
There's two recently, right, And I'll get it in that
another day. By the way, Blows says that Josh and
the guy played with Shane gostis there very good stuff.
So you know, Shane's a pretty good player, and with
all respect he certainly had a good year for the Wings.
But I think the thing that's necessary that people in
Florida have to understand is this. Okay, you know you're
(43:28):
building something not only on the professional level, but now
you're starting to go ahead and build it at the
youth level. Now, let's we've talked about this before, but
I'm gonna say it again. Okay. The only reason hockey
field in Arizona, and even when Gretzky couldn't even save it, okay,
because you had poor ownership and no stadium. Period. That's it.
I believe that Arizona could have been a successful market.
(43:51):
They have bad ownership and no place to play. That's
a recipe for disaster. Yeah, but you lived there, so
I'm not going to argue with you.
Speaker 4 (43:59):
But I'll say it again, Quila or River Arena, which
you and your wife have been at. Price, it's good
a rank of the National Hockey they did, and if
anybody that's been there, there's twenty bars in restaurants within
fifty feet of it.
Speaker 2 (44:11):
Like, I'm like, how does this not work?
Speaker 4 (44:13):
Two thirds of the NHL markets would give their right
arm for what the Coyotes have.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
You know, I understand it was in an area of
the city that nobody wanted to go to. I get
that right. You can't say they didn't have at least
a nice rink.
Speaker 1 (44:26):
Well not. I'll tell you one thing. When Candy and I,
my father in law, my brother in law went over
to that place, and what do these guys complaining? We
paid tickets? Just so I can criticize these people for
complaining about the rank, said, are you crazy? Really? I mean,
come on, I mean, let's face reality. It's not like
you got an upgrade over at Arizona State University and
(44:47):
the Phoenix Suns Arena was to be awful. You know,
I won't get into history of my relationship with the
typhonings PR Department or not anymore. But the reality is
they didn't have a good hockey rink, and yes, they
had a shopping center right across the street. And if
it's so bad, explain to me why the Arizona Cardinals
are playing in a beautiful facility about one hundred feet
(45:07):
away about where that is now. They don't from the
hockey rink, No, they don't. And here's the thing. Okay,
the Coyotes had a chance to move to Scottie because
I lived there at that time, and they tore down
a shopping mall and all of a sudden things filed
a way to get messed up there. But meanwhile, with
all the money that they end up getting towards the
funding toward arena, they ended up improving the Cactus League
(45:30):
and Lord a lot of teams from Florida. So now
you have fifteen teams in the Cactus League, which is Arizona,
and then fifteen in the Grapefruit League. So yeah, tell
me how bad it was they had a chance to
get in these valley but unfortunately, when you burn one
bridge after the other, and I burned one bridge after
the other, that to me is a recipe for disaster.
That's why I failed. But Florida. Meanwhile, I will say this,
(45:52):
they started at the Miami Arena. Good place to start.
I mean, hey, at least you had fifteen thousand people,
even if they didn't spend a boatload of money at
the beginning, but they used it as a step and
sold with at least fifteen thousand people. And I went
there for a Miami Heat game, by the way, Rod,
and then they ended up moving to this unbelievable arena
that they're never going to lead. And I don't know
(46:12):
what it's called. You know, they change names every two seconds.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
A merit banker.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
That's good enough for me. Yeah, yeah, well they always
have a bank most of the time. I remember years ago,
and it was once upon aertainment time named the National
Car Rental Center. That's probably five six, seven names ago.
But still, I mean, I can tell you right now
the Panther found an arena. I love working in that arena,
and I've gone on a lot of these shows here
saying that it's one of the best arenas I've ever
(46:38):
been to a Merit Bank arena. I've ever get used
to that one. And if I don't, make sure that
you will incorporate it into your stories so that way
you'll drill it in my head. So you know, I
only revisiting the Iota. Thing is this could work in
a southern warm weather climate. Vegas be fine in all
these other places, but Florida. You have two teams that
(47:00):
started with different arenas. Okay, well, I remember when Philip
Fazino went out there and brought it over there. I
think it was at the Expo Center that held about
ten thousand fans at the beginning, and I saw them
the Lightning play at the thunder Dome. I think they
called it at that time. I remember, yeah, and I
remember that, which is, by the way, the same plays
(47:21):
as Tropic and a Field. But they've changed the names
a few times, and now the Lightning have a first
class place and they're never leaving in either Panthers. So
they got the arena thing figured out, and guess what
they got. The Stanley comes win it, can I.
Speaker 3 (47:33):
Say, well, yeah, oh, here we go. This show will
be the biggest show for SFT and that is final.
That's your final answer.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
And you know what blows if you keep saying that
and you believe it, and you share this show all
over the place between yeats and both podcasts and this
and Rod and I going out and you're going on
his show every once in a while whenever he needs me.
Then I guarantee what you just said will be better
than Joe Daman's guarantee when they ended up beating the
Baltimore Colts and the super Bowl. I can't imagine how
many people are really old enough to remember that one
(48:06):
the only.
Speaker 3 (48:06):
Super Bowl win, I might add in Jet's history.
Speaker 1 (48:10):
Right, Well, that's okay. Blow's plenty two. I retweeted her
all the time, And you know what, blows. Cheers to you,
my friend. We appreciate it. Keeps keep spreading the word.
This hockey show was a result of you and Joshua
Door wanting it, and we certainly brought it here. And
I couldn't have found a better person to execute the
task that we're doing. And Blow says, as they say,
(48:32):
the stock market to the moon. All right, well, you
know what, that's okay. The main thing you have to
understand blows is I'd rather go to the moon because
I don't want to look like Saturn with a ring
around my head here looking stupid. So that's not you blow,
that's me now, So don't take it. First of all,
nobody give me a hard time. Okay, but no, it's
to the moon. I don't want to be saturned. And
you know, I don't know much about Spanish, okay, but
(48:53):
there are a few words that I do know. I
want David the Puerto Rican girl who always said, eh,
stupid though I guess that he's stupid, but not that
I really particularly care, because in the eyes of Ernie Hardwell,
she is, Oh god, all right, where do I go
with that tangent? Don't worry about it. When you think
on your feet, one liners come faster than you can
snap your hand and go through a broadcast like this.
(49:14):
All right, Rod, go ahead, can you all right here?
Let's go back to blows here. I look at this guy.
Let a DMS read watch it again on YouTube. Don't worry,
it's all good. Nobody gave you a hard time tonight. Gosh,
and the guys love hockey. We have been around the
sport for a long time. Love this show with Rod.
Of course, they're not going anywhere. Rod only figures get
better when we get done. And of course, O g
(49:37):
George Scott, he wrote a book. These guys are smart, right.
I don't like stupid people in the chat room, and
I got three good ones in there tonight. These guys
are the energy of the show. All right, go ahead, Rod, can't.
Speaker 2 (49:51):
Take a breath, Scott, and maybe a sip of water.
Speaker 1 (49:54):
Well no, actually I see your works, but go ahead.
Speaker 4 (49:56):
I want to hear it one time. I want to
hear the story of the sports Exchange. Not tonight, but
it's something maybe at supper Friday night, when we go
out for dinner.
Speaker 2 (50:03):
I want you to tell me the story of the
sports exchanged with George.
Speaker 3 (50:05):
Yes, please, God, I really enjoy I really.
Speaker 4 (50:08):
Enjoyed George's voice. Now, if the Red Wings I get
to miss the playoffs and they make a trade, will you,
Scott make a public apology to Joshua that he was
right after you going off two weeks ago or last
week got a remember? Will you apologize if the Red
Wings missed the playoffs this year?
Speaker 1 (50:28):
Yeah, I'll do that. I'll own it. I have no
problem with that. Why what do you think. I don't
own it if I make bad prediction. But they don't
come here for me for predictions. They got people way
smarter than I do. But if you're asking me for
an apology for josh and then they're make it, I
have no problem. I don't have an ego bigger than
Mount Everest. I'm not saying he does, so don't take
that the wrong way or Mount we're near or whatever mountain.
(50:50):
I have no problem. Hey, Josh, if the Red Wings
missed the playoffs, all right, Josh, you were right. I
was wrong. Okay, it's happened before. But if they end
up making the playoffs and he's wrong, then you better
rephrase that question about what Joshua Dor gonna do too.
You know what, I always say, it's good for the
goose is good for the gander. So that's okay. And
I have and we have access to Joshua Dor because
(51:12):
we're in South Florida, So Joshua Dor, I have no problem. Okay,
if I'm wrong, I'll own it, And if you're wrong,
you're gonna you're gonna own it too, and we'll think
of something that you're gonna own.
Speaker 4 (51:22):
So well, I was trying to stir it up and
as it turns out, quite unsuccessfully.
Speaker 3 (51:29):
Wait, so Rod, you know, don't forget it. Don't forget
it centered around Tarashenko too, you know about being traded
back to to uh to Florida, which we said is
as asinin uh. But that was that was a good
donny for our last week. Scott. You held your ground
very well. I'm proud of you. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (51:50):
Well, you know here, Joshua dor says, I wanted the
Wings to make it last year, wanted Shane to get
in the playoffs. Sure you played with the guy. You
might as well. Okay, if I'm okay, I'm okay, I'm
okay if I'm wrong, Scott, that's all right, Joshua, that's
what it's all about. Man. You know, Shane a ka
ghost all right, not rooting for again? Some good. So
we're getting it out there. But Rod tried to do something,
(52:11):
and unfortunately the guy was wrong. He thought I was
not gonna apologize, or didn't think I was gonna thwet.
Let me tell you something, let me tell you something. Okay,
here's the deal. I don't mind owning it. I never
PRESI I never pretended I knew it all. And when
the time comes that I don't know that I know
it all, then I can promise you this, and I
want to bring that into this whole thing. But they
(52:32):
won't be burying me under the ground. I'll be in
a concrete nap and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that's where I'll be
wa boom.
Speaker 2 (52:39):
Well, we're all getting to know each other here on
the program.
Speaker 4 (52:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (52:43):
Yeah, unfortunately though, Rod, sorry to disappoint you that you
thought you had me. And guess what, my brother, I
am not teasing this time. He might fer me. No way.
I'll own it if I say it, and of course
I have to. It's all on, it's all being recorded.
It's going all over in the world, Yes, sir, it
really is. Okay, it's all good.
Speaker 3 (53:05):
Great show, great show, guys.
Speaker 1 (53:08):
Look at these guys. Let me tell you, Joshua blows
Delos and whoever else is in the night. These guys
are salivating tonight. They're not getting hammered. They're enjoying all.
These these guys are absolutely doing the wonderful jobs the
Trinity tonight and having a good time. Because when they
salivate apro mold day, these guys here are horses man
they're thoroughbreds. They're this should be fun.
Speaker 2 (53:30):
This business should be fun.
Speaker 4 (53:31):
There's a lot of people that try to take the
fun out of it, and I'm not one of them.
Speaker 2 (53:35):
So I'm glad everybody's here for the same thing.
Speaker 1 (53:37):
Yeah, I'm not gonna take the fun out of it. And
I'm doing this too long. I've always had a firm
belief that have been fun. I'm not gonna do it.
Come on, seriously, you don't know me, but don't worry.
Before it's all said done, you know you will. No,
if it's not fun, you don't do it. That just
all happens. I can feel very good about the fact
on every one of my shows, okay, that everybody has fun.
(53:58):
In fact, on inside the can get this. You gotta
do like that. Okay, that coach John Bonhamago went out
there and started a chat with the five major regulars.
I'm telling you, he did. I didn't do it. He
did it. Okay, Now everybody's they love it. So I said, hey,
you know what I mean. So hey, listen, you know
when you got guys on a show and they love
(54:20):
each other, my god, or they have a good time
with each other, that's just trying to build because number one,
they'll always be on every week and listen as an emergency,
you can't get it. Stuff happened, okay, but that's just
how it is. So you know, that's what we're gonna do.
We're trying to build something here that from the ground
up here with this show being more towards a hockey show,
and maybe once in a while I'll throwing a non
(54:41):
hockey topic just for news and that's it. Nobody has
to comment on it. This and keep up with a
fire in Florida. But there was a void and thankfully
I was able to find it. And I'll tell you
one thing, this show, whether you've got people out there
note or not, is being hurt on iHeart Radio. So
it's not like we're dealing with something that nobody knows.
And Spotify, as you alluded to as well, plus YouTube
among as well as our other social media platforms, Candy
(55:05):
generally mentioned it. So you know, So Dealo is on
my way to Loas to get a bucket from Will
Vocal because I'm salvating somebody else. Okay, We'll Vocal is
a guy will tell you about down the road. We
love Travis on Pigt. Travis is a broadcaster and he
started from the ground up and all he did was improved.
And he's a mind telling you that either. So yeah,
I mean that's what it's all about. It's about everybody
having a good time. Keep it real. You know, we
(55:26):
want to make sure that chat room is a pleasant
place to come out there. We're not looking to go
out there and throw anybody under the bus, and our
goals make sure they always want to come back. But
we often But I have a responsibility though as the
executive producer George and Rod to make sure that everything
goes as structured so that way we don't go out
there and go above the attention span for what people want.
(55:49):
And our goals to educate and inform and entertain as
long as people. And I mentioned that book, okay, lessons
from the microphone. If you can do all of those,
I think you definitely have a great nucleus to build something.
Yet back we all know we'll vogel there's a pogo stick, Joshua.
But I go out there and tell you one thing,
my friend, Okay, if you ever go on to show
with him, if you mentioned that to him and your
(56:11):
friends with them, he'll message us, so you know you
don't want to do that and go in another Christmas situation.
Cheer sea there, Josh, you're good story, We'll vocal mat,
We'll sorry, We'll leave it at tho one there. But
the main thing is that that's what we're all about.
And obviously I love the energy tonight on a lot
of different fronts. And again we have a lot more
things that we're going to get to. Sium goes on,
but I'm glad we covered a fair amount of ground.
(56:33):
One more time, candy for Rod and us. I want
to picture of those Stanley cups and then after that
you can take it home.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
Let the record show that George Eikeborn was with the
Stanley Cup also. But typical George, you can't find the photograph.
Speaker 1 (56:55):
We'll find the photograph and we'll put it up here
as well. Okay, I will, like we put everything else
of years up. As a columnist, go ahead. And by
the way, Rod Peterson is a columnist so tough for
the Tribune. It was officially announced today on Instagram that
he is the newest columnist. Joined myself, George as well
(57:16):
as a lot of the other people out there.
Speaker 3 (57:20):
Well deserved honor.
Speaker 1 (57:21):
Yeah, and not only that. What I also do is
I do take something. I generate. Some of my ideas
from Rod's stories are that good. So I may find
one or two and I'll bring them on and we'll
and I'll have a balance with everything. Now. So there
you go, Rod, officially a member of Self Order Tribune
as an NHL writer, put it out there. Glad we
got around to doing it. Thanks for having me all,
(57:45):
thank you for being a part of it. Man tell
Serena looking forward to get her and we're going to
get her involved as well. The show's only going to
get better and better and better lifetime achievement. Let's go
all right, Well if that's that, but my voice here
is starting to show a little bit aware and I
have yet one more show later, Kady, take us all okay?
Speaker 6 (58:04):
So Self Florida Tribune published a book last November. It

everybody know how they can get a hold of you
and find you.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
Well.
Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
Yeah, and Candy alluded to it under the South Florida
Tribune website. I ride under the Motor City Tribune and
that's a great, great area. I mean, me and Jeremy
and Scott and Candy and all those great pictures we
got in our connections to Detroit. And at the end
of my column you'll always see a link to purchase
my book called Detroit sports broadcasters on the air. Oh yeah, yeah,
(01:00:56):
Candy's pointy. She's got a copy of it over there
in the corner. Yeah, and Scott's in the block. Scott
and I have over forty plus years together and we've
covered these guys like you don't believe. Man, we're talking
about the great Ernie Harwell, who wrote the forward in
my book, Our Dear Friend. And we miss them every day, Scott,
I know we do. And of course so many others
(01:01:18):
we've lost. Paul Carey, Frank Beckman, Al Ackerman, It's Dave Diles,
so many great guys in Detroit sports history, and mister Peterson,
you know, Bud Lynch, Bruce Martin, George kell, Ken Daniels,
Dave Strader. What a wonderful litany of hockey announcers and
broadcasters we've had in Detroit. There's a link to my
(01:01:39):
book at the end of my column. You can also
find me at gi corn at yahoo dot com and
on ex formerlynonas Twitter at Sanjie Sports ninety nine, and
of course LinkedIn as well. So I'd like to hear
from all of you. Enjoy being on these great shows.
Fire Up, Fire Up, Florida and one hundred eight stitches tonight, all.
Speaker 1 (01:01:59):
Right, George, let me ask you a question. Okay, Number one,
he forgot ken Kell. I know if he's in the book.
Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
I was listening.
Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
All right, Well, all right, well never mind now then
I'm wrong, but I'll tell you what. I'm mentioning them again,
so it doesn't matter. Can't call. They're all great, Paul
Woods are great. Let me tell you the pants has
always had some good ones. So I see this as
to show you if I make a mistake, I don't
hear it that. It's okay. Number one, Rod, have you
gotten a book yet?
Speaker 7 (01:02:26):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
I want a book. I want a sweatshirt, I.
Speaker 1 (01:02:29):
Want a hat, I want it all. And so all right,
well here's the deal, right, okay, and everybody for a
national audience to hear it. Okay, I'm going to get
ride of book soon, sooner than later. Okay. But here's
here's what we're going to propose. He's going to have
to go out there promoted hard, and he's also going
to be We're going to be training a book, book
for a current and future considerations. And then how they
(01:02:50):
describe hockey traits? Anyways, I thought, are they the only
league that does that. I have no idea, but I
know one thing. Hockey does it a lot. Maybe baseball
does it. I don't know about basketball. They don't think anything. Nothing.
I know in football, you don't worry about futures consideration
because they cut somebody if they don't want them guys. Yeah, yeah,
they just cut guys. So there you go, Rod, we'll
(01:03:11):
figure out the other stuff. You're you'll have to honey up.
But that's okay. Well you're gonna you and Serena will
hopefully help promote the book and not willing. If I'm
feeling up to it, which I plan to do, I'll
write a second one for which you will be in it.
Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
All right, guys, great show, appreciate it. Good luck talking baseball.
Speaker 3 (01:03:28):
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:03:28):
So with that said, that's what concludes this edition of
Fire Up Florida. We will see you next week, same time.
Good night, everybody, Thanks again, Rod, and as de Low says,
stay dry over there, Rod, good night, everybody.
Speaker 7 (01:03:41):
Good night. Two
