Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to First Issues now, the weekly show
posted daily ish about only the newest first issues released
by Inser Comic Company. Here this week, I'll be looking
at the comics released for the week of July thirtieth,
twenty twenty five. Oh right, this was another event that
was going around, isn't it? Seriously? How can I have
so many Marvel books every week and not know what's
(00:21):
going on in the main six one sixth universe? Well,
I guess Fantastic four did have Doom and strangest Cloak
of Levitation blasting them all over time, but not the point.
This is God's One World Under Doom number one, written
by Ryan North, art by Francesco Mortarino, colors by Raoul Angulo,
(00:42):
and letters by VC's Travis Lanham. I think it should
be known that I did not read Jonathan Hickman's God
comic in twenty twenty four, so let's hope it doesn't
get massively confusing. So a woman named Mia is journaling
with the best Rogan gambit soun oc that I've seen
in a long time, Burst through the Door. Actually his
(01:03):
name is Win or red Win, and he's the avatar
of the powers that be the new cosmic nedy made
last year about magic. He's bitching about something, but at
least it gets us to know that Mia is his
apprentice and she also follows the natural order of things.
The new cosmic entity made last year about science when
(01:24):
is all about He totally needs her to help save
the world and he's not lying, so she joins him
and they go to the Emperor of the World, doctor Doom,
for help. Doom pontificates about how Mia is not just
a science gal, but she's got such raw magic power
to her, not unlike Doom himself. The long story short
is Win needs Doom's help to repair some spells around
(01:46):
the sun because without them, demons will feast on it. Okay,
they do so, with Doom actually being a really good
teacher to Mia and when being left in the sun
because he he's a dick and Doom is also a dick.
But after Mia gets sent home, eventually When comes back
with mea having a new sense of value, and Win
(02:09):
agrees that they're partners. Okay, I'm split on this book,
Dear listeners. On one hand, I really like the dichotomy
of magic and science spoken about at length in this book.
I absolutely how that it's a talking book even being
considered a mainstream book, since it is in the six
one six or whatever Emperor Doom's world number is gonna be.
(02:30):
And honestly, this has the best moments from Doom I've
read in a long time with him teaching Mia. It
is an exquisite peak behind the curtain as to whom
Doom is. Although if Christolph and Valeria are any indications,
he really not should be allowed alone with kids, even
if me is in college. I'm at the age where
college kids are still kids. But the split for me
(02:53):
comes at being a very weird angle to look at
the six one sixth through magic and tech have butted
heads before, there's been a lot of discourse about magic
versus science, aiding science or aiding magic. Honestly, this actually
feels like a very indie comic that Hickman got greenlit
because it's Jonathan Hickman in twenty twenty four and had
(03:13):
an idea, so clearly it needs to be a book. Now.
Maybe The God's Book is more like the Book of
Magic from DC, where it explores the magical and scientific
side of things, so it feels more involved with the
six one six, and if it does, then I'm completely
wrong on that. However, I think, and this is slightly petty,
(03:34):
I'm not engaging with red Wind there. Actually, that's probably
what kept me from connecting with this book at all.
I actually love the doom and Mia stuff. I hate
when Red Wind's on this page, but it's just not
the character type that I ever actively want. I do
get I have massive go away heat for Win throughout
(03:55):
the whole thing that I do not enjoy reading him. Now.
I do get what but North was going for here,
and I do get that a lot of people might
like him, but it's just not the character type that
I ever want to actively read. Hell, I still hate
Tony Stark after he took the Armor back from Rody
because I hated him. Yes, that is a childhood trauma
(04:17):
for me. Oh and the art is really really great
and I absolutely have zero notes on the visuals other
than love it. Do more of that. The point is,
what is my verdict on this Well, I think my
verdict is read it. Read it means that at the
very least it is worth reading to decide for yourself.
There is a lot of good in this book. There are, however,
(04:40):
some parts that make it just not a must own
for me. However, I could also see this being a
must own for a lot of people though, and not
even just people who want one world under doom. But
maybe I'm wrong. Let me know what your thoughts of
this issue, or even if I missed an issue over
on Facebook at the Comic Car Archivist, on Twitter at
(05:01):
AGC Underscore does it all? Or Blue Sky at AJAC
does it all without any Underscore, don't forget a like
share of follow and do all the other stuff that
I'm being told is important to continue doing these shows
and more than anything though, stiggled and Inklings
