Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to First Issues, now, the weekly show
posted daily about only the newest first issues released by
insert comic company. Here this week, I'll be looking at
the comics release for the week of August sixth, twenty
twenty five. I already had my rant on Godzilla number
one that we respect all things Godzilla, from the silly
(00:20):
Shoa era to the random zone fighter stuff, and that
continues with the Kaisei era over at IDW Publishing going
on right now, which I did accidentally call the Heisei
era in my Godzilla number one review. I blame the
letterer of Google Docs whatever. So this is Godzilla Escaped
the Dead Zone number one, written by Ethan S. Parker
(00:42):
and Griffin Sheridan, art by Pablo Tunika and Letters, and
designed by Nathan Whittick. I had no idea what to
expect going into this. I mean, it's about a half
Kaiju guy in a Godzilla nuked Seattle, but the second
week got pasted as the exposition dumped for the setting
opening up a little opening up on a little dilapidated
(01:06):
open face cantina, and then the wanderer gives a jab
about how his tail is actually mostly for balance. I'm hooked.
Then you have the Wanderer, the half Kaiju do go
out and tame one of the smaller Kaijus to ride
through the desert, and ending with a mysterious girl who
can control beasts and Kaiju and everything. I'm invested. This
(01:27):
is all my jam I brought it up in Ghost Pepper,
but I am a sucker for desert punk. Yes, you
can probably go through all my VIDs and find out
that I'm actually a sucker for most everything as long
as it's fun or well written. But when it comes
to post apocalyptic old new tech, rusty, corrugated tin and
sand that I absolutely would be dying in if I
(01:48):
head of her had to go back, I'm a happy camper.
You add in mutated humans Kaiju both big and small,
and a loner needing to protect a little girl for
the ongoing premise, Yes, all of this, Yeah, yes, I
think the biggest strength of this first issue is a
fantastic setup with the world, the Wanderer, the monsters and everything,
(02:09):
because yeah, it's just that damn good. And the art well,
Sam said that it was a bit too loose and
sketchy for her liking. It is an art style that
not everyone's gonna lie. I'm not one of those people.
I'm a rebel, Donnie, a loader, and I find it
absolutely amazing to convey the chaotic nature of the world
and the characters. Kaiju fights shouldn't feel stock is kind
(02:31):
of what I'm getting at. So it's a top notch
and I am hooked going forward. So my verdict is
absolutely by it. By it means it is should not
only be on your digital pull list, but you should
definitely have a physical floppy for it too. There's only
a couple of variant covers, so I say go for
the gold and collect it all. Plus, the kaise era
(02:53):
of IDW Godzilla is shaping up to be worth everything
coming out being a must own. But maybe I'm wrong.
Let me know what your thoughts of this issue is
over on Facebook at the Comic Archivist or Twitter at
AGC underscore does it all and on Blue Sky at
AGAC does it all without any Underscore. Don't forget to like, share, follow,
(03:17):
and do all the stuff that I'm being told is
so important to continue doing these more than anything though,
