Speaker 1 (00:05):
Mmm, Hello, Hello, Hello, hey, going, how you doing what

(00:26):
you love?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
A baby? You know that banger a beat by now right?
You know? How's the intro of the sound of the song,
the theme to the College Football Function. I am your host,
call me your el Capitan. I go by the name
of CM aka cousin Mike A k A C. M.
Funk aka missus still your Grandma, aka the host that

(00:50):
knows the most. If we've never met, cordially introducing myself
and saying welcome to your first time to the College
Football Function. If you're a frequent listener, you're no do
this voice, You're no stranger to this show. Can you
tell the excitement in my voice? Because this is technically

(01:12):
the last off season show. Coming at you, of course,
Another Wednesday. Wednesdays are a good day for me. Sometimes
I'm off, sometimes I have a half day. Sometimes I
go in a little early, and I really try to
do it on Wednesdays. Wednesday it's just like the least
day I can the better day, I should say to

(01:35):
you know, be able to get this you know, show
done and get some homework done as well. Coming at
you of course, Like I said, Wednesday, it's the August
the thirteenth, we're there. Like I said, this is technically
my last quote unquote off season show. I will come
at you next week with the Week zero preview show.

(01:56):
We made it. And like I said, I told you guys,
Aly was gonna fly. And once July flew, August came
and we're almost two weeks into August already, and next
weekend we have college football as Week zero. Not the
best slay of games, don't get me wrong. I think
Farmageddon is gonna be a hell of a game. If

(02:17):
you've never watched for mcgeddon, you don't really know what
a good Big twelve rivalry game he is. Watch Farmageddon,
you know, next Saturday morning, that's where College Game Day
is gonna be there in Dublin, Ireland. Really cool to
see that. It just shows how branched out college football is.

(02:38):
It's got that NFL field. You know. NFL's been going
to Mexico of course, going across the pond. I think
they were in Brazil, you know last year, and college
football for the last couple of years has kind of
crossed emotions as well. I think it's huge now it's
gonna be a hugely watched game. Kansas at Iowa State.

(03:00):
If you're not familiar with those two teams, it's a
good rivalry, you know, it's not It doesn't have the
hate factor like a you know in Ohio State, Michigan
or the Florida trifecta with of course, you know, Florida,
Florida State and Miami. You won't see two too many
personal fouls or fists flying. It's just two teams. It's

(03:26):
kind of like an NFC North type rivalry. Yeah, you
definitely don't like each other, but there are two blue
collar you know, dirty fingernails, great grind and play the
game the right way. Is how I would dis you know,
discuss and compare this rivalry to just pure old fashioned hate. Right. Yeah,

(03:51):
like I said, two teams absolutely don't hate each other,
absolutely do hate each other, but it's a different kind
of rivalry. Like I said, you know, it's a really
game and two ranked teams. Because, like I said, when
I came to you guys last week, the coaches poll
I do believe came out. You know, they take all
these coaches and they go, Okay, who do you think

(04:11):
some of the best teams in the country. Some coaches
will go, oh on my team's the best team in
the country, and you know, other coaches will be humble
and go, you know, there's probably ten to fifteen teams
better than the Illinois fighting a line is probably what
Brett Belambo would say, right, And I kind of like
the coach's poll a little bit better than you know,

(04:32):
an AP pole or any other poll like that. Now,
of course, going into week zero, we have the A people.
I think this is the one that most people will
pay attention to when you start seeing numbers next to teams,
you know, for especially that Week zero matchup Iowa State
and Kansas State, two teams ranked and the AP top

(04:54):
twenty five. So let's kind of go through that very
very slowly, I mean not very very slowly, very quickly,
and then we'll get into the why we're here. Of course,
Texas comes in preseason number one. It was top one
or two. I could absolutely see that. Penn State at two.
I see that as well. Ohio State at three kind

(05:16):
of disrespectful for their national reigning champs, but they also
did lose a lot. A lot of their prime players
that got them that ring, got them that trophy are gone,
and it seemed like Penn State kind of are bringing
it back. Texas kind of bringing them back, but Ohio
State doesn't rebuild a reload, right. Clemson at four respectable. Sure,

(05:38):
not a great year last year, but with Cape Club
Nick and Dabbo Sweeney one of the best coaches in
the country. Yeah, preseason top five absolutely, Georgia f five. No
arguments with either one of these teams. And where I
see Georgia having a down year? But you know what
do I not? Right? Notre Dame see that perfectly as well.

(06:02):
Oregon at seven. This is where it starts to get
a little muggy. Alabama at eight. Yes, I'm on that bandwagon.
I'm on with these what these people think that Alabama
is going to bounce back, have a better year than
they had last year, double digit win you know, I predicted,
you know, for them to have this season, So wouldn't

(06:25):
be surprised, right to see Alabama only have one bad
year and then show back up in the College Football playoff? Right?
Got LSU at nine, Now, this is where it starts
getting even more muggy. Right, Yes, of course LSU is
up there. They're a blue blood, you know, have won
a national championship within the last ten years. I get it.

(06:45):
It's the Brian Kelly thing. I don't think they finish
in the top ten. Let's just say that. Rounding out
the top ten is, of course Miami, another team I
think overperformed last year. I see them regressing this year.
But the talent is there, you know, when you have
a guy like Carson back at the helm. Yes, the

(07:06):
offense kinda won't have a hiccup. Yeah, it's not gonna
be the same kind of high flying offense that you
saw last year with guys like Kim Words or step
Ro and restrectaful sorry and some of those ballers that
they had on that side of the ball. But why not, right,
But we'll see the reigning Big twelve champs, Arizona State

(07:27):
coming at eleven, absolutely respectable, especially with a guy like
what's his name? Sorry, I have it right here, Sam Levitt. Yeah,
returning quarterback Big twelve champ. You know, overperformed un comfortball playoffs.
Should it be Texas, YadA, YadA, no complaints, Illinois had twelve.

(07:48):
I guess the hush hush, the quiet, the talks, you know,
me talking about Illinois last week. I guess I'm not
the only one who thinks Illinois is going to have
a great year. South Carolina at thirteen. No, no disrespect
at all to the South Carolina game Cocks. I mean also,
you know, teams like South Carolina, LSU, some of these

(08:12):
other teams are gonna get the benefit of the doubt. Yeah,
you're gonna get a lot of SEC teams, a lot
of Big ten teams preseason ranked just because of their names,
and it's hard to do preseason. I talked to Mike
about it last night. I asked them to say, Hey,
what do you think you know about this preseason? You know,
AP top TENNFL. I'm not the biggest fan of it

(08:34):
because we all see at the end of the year,
the preseason one. At the end, there's so much discrepancy.
There's teams in the top ten, top fifteen that don't
even finish in the top twenty five. And then you
have teams like in Indiana and SMU Arizona State, you know,
all those Gangbusters from last year finished in the top
you know, twelve fifteen. So it's a guessing game, right,

(08:57):
So it's just opinion, and of course I defer. But
we'll see Michigan at fourteen yet again, kind of like Alabama.
I'm pretty sure I lumped those two teams together for
a reason, just because I see them having a bounce
back here. Too many good players and just a team

(09:17):
that you can't hold down for two years. You know,
that's Michigan fifteen Florida yet again, another SEC team that
should overperform. You know, should have had a horrible year
last year, had a good year, ended up going to
a bowl. YadA, YadA, YadA. Can they keep going? Then?
They have a great quarterback. I'll talk about him a
little bit. SMU at sixteen kind of based off last year,

(09:40):
you know, playing Clemson in the ACC Championship game, making
it to the College Football Playoff. Kind of ride on
past success as well. K State at seventeen the first
Big twelve team or second, sorry, second Big twelve team
ranked in the top twenty. Yet again. I've said this
before about Kansas State. I have high rechart spect for

(10:00):
a team like Kansas State. Seems like every year they perform,
they perform well, and they do it quietly and do
it the right way. Oh you at eighteen, here we
go a lot like you know, the Alabama and some
of these other teams like Michigan as well, I didn't
perform well last year, but you can't hold a blue
blood down for multiple years. Now, we'll see how they end.

(10:24):
Nineteen Texas, A and M. Yet again, happens every year,
should it? You know, do they have the talent, sure,
do they have a great you know, home field advantage, sure,
big stadium, sure, But when they don't perform, you know
what I'm saying that this happens every single year with
certain teams in Texas and M is no exception. At
twenty Indiana, Yeah, you got to just go, hey, y'all

(10:48):
had a great year last year. Let's give you some
respect and say, hey, we'll put you in the top
twenty five. Are you going to finish there? We'll see
ole mess at twenty one. Yet again, it's the South Carolina,
it's the OR, it's the OU, it's the A and
M SEC bias. They're gonna put a buttl load of
Big ten and SEC teams in a preseason ranked just

(11:08):
because they look at the roster, look at the recruiting,
look at all this, and they're on the best conference
in the country quote unquote, right, I think Big ten
and SEC are pretty neck and neck, to be honest,
But they still have to do it. Twenty two Iowa
State another Big twelve team. I think, another team highly respectable.

(11:28):
You know, last time you saw them, they won the
Pop Tarts Bowl against Miami, but the second, the second
last time you saw them, got really beat up by
Arizona State. Kimskataboo really made Iowa State cyclones look bad,
and that was one of the better defenses in the
Big twelve. Texas stat coming in at twenty three, of course,
it's jubulant. It's exciting for me being a Red Raider,

(11:51):
like I said, for you know, well over thirty years
of my life, probably even closer to thirty something, just
turned thirty eight. Been a Texas Tech fan since I
was a weekly alat. Like I said before, it's very exciting.
I see big things for Texas Tech as well. Twenty
four Tennessee. Yeah, another SEC team, but I see more

(12:12):
out of Tennessee than I see out of certain other,
you know, SEC teams. And then rounding out twenty five
Boise State. You kind of kind of have to put
a Boise State in. There could have been a JM you,
it could have been anybody Nonpower four, right, So you
see that very often it's very cut and dry, you know,

(12:32):
almost cut and paste a kind of from last year.
This isn't going to be the final eight Pop Pole.
I mean we all know that that's not going to happen.
So that just thought I talk about that, you know,
give a you know, a little recap just in case
you didn't see that. It came out not too long ago.
But going into today's show, like I said, the last

(12:53):
true offseason show, and it's a doozy, I'm gonna do
my heisman. You know, I'm going to talk about some
of these great players. So I'm gonna give you some favorites.
I'm gonna give you some what ifs that if this
player has a great year, this team performs, overperforms, why
not end up in New York. And then of course
give you some long shots, because it's not fun to

(13:17):
just bet on favorites and you know, be average quote
unquote quarterbacks, receivers, body body block. We're gonna have the
long shots last, and then the last part of the show,
we are going to predict the college football playoffs and
see who's going to win the national championship for the

(13:37):
twenty twenty five twenty twenty sixth season, got it right
last year. Going into my third year, I'd love to
go to for three, right, you know. I know it's
kind of a cop out to pick Ohio State to
win the national championship last year. I just saw too much,
you know with Ohio State, and yeah, they ended up
doing that, you know, like I said, beating Notre Dames.

(13:58):
So let's start off, of course with the Heisman talks.
Just talk with the favorites. You know, let's talk about
these names that you definitely know, or if you don't know,
maybe you should. I think the favorite is not necessarily
who y'all think the favorite is, or you could agree
with me. I think the favorite going into this year

(14:21):
is wide receiver from Ohio State Jeremiah Smith. Freshman year
last year just blew up, you know. I mean, he
was a great player for that Ohio State team and
coming in as an eighteen nineteen year old kid and
just blossoming and you could just see his growth throughout

(14:41):
last year and then in some of the biggest games
of the year he overperformed. Yes, it's going to be
a little difficult with the quarterback situation, him being the
quote unquote focal point he's going to be that number
one receiver that you know, those defensive coordinators are going
to go, hey, we have to know this guy, you know,
we have to limit him to less than one hundred yards,

(15:03):
less than you know, eight catches, you know, and try
to keep him out of that, you know, the real soft,
cushiony end zone. Right. So, Jeremih Smith, it's his the win.
I just think it might be a little hard sometimes preseason,
you know, Heisman favorites don't always win. And we'll see
Jeremi Smith. Let's go quarterbacks. Kate Clubnick of Clemson yet again,

(15:29):
I've been a fan of his. Clemson not quite having
the year that they expect, you know, and you can
easily go bang see him. Didn't they win the ACC
you know, didn't they play in the College Football Playoff? Yes,
but Clemson's used to playing in national championships. Double Sweeney
has a few rings, one of the best coaches in
the country. And Kate club Nick going into I think

(15:52):
it's junior or senior year, what if not now win,
you know, and he's being talked about as possible top five,
top ten draft pick come April. Of of course, twenty
twenty six, so I would put him as my favorite
quarterback to win the Heisman this year. Texas Arch Manning.

(16:12):
Of course, everybody knows the name Manning. Arch is no exception.
Texas the preseason number one AP team in the country
for a reason. They return, they reload. You got an incoming.
I think he's his sophomore, maybe at Richart sophomore. Not
real sure in Arch, but it's his to lose. I think.

(16:33):
I don't think it's his the win. I think it's
his to lose. There's gonna be so many eyes on him, pressure,
but he isn't Manning, right, I mean, it's in his blood.
He should be fine. Yet again, another guy that should perform,
and I could see him in New York, you know,
come December January, right, all right? Penn State quarterback Drew lr.

(16:54):
I know certain people aren't real high on him, but
let's fast forward, real quick. Let's pull out the click remote,
and I think that's going to be the first overall
quarterback taken in April's draft. I see so much out
of du Lar and I think he takes a huge
step forward. He's going to have a great year and

(17:17):
Penn State's I think Penn State's gonna be one of
the better teams in the country. LSU's quarterback Garrett nus Meyer,
another guy being talked about. These rankings aren't necessarily how
I see them. These are just guys that they're gonna
be talking about all year. And I know when LSU
plays you know, oh you, or LSU plays Bama or Georgia,

(17:40):
They're gonna talk about Garrett nus Meyer for a reason.
He has a you know, he is a little brother
of another nus Meyer, good quarterback. I see him being
potentially picked pretty high in the draft process next year
as well. South Carolina's quarterback Leonora Sellers a true dual
threat guy, loves the He's got a good arm, he

(18:01):
can run, he can throw on the run. And if
South Carolina has a good year like potentially they can.
I know I didn't break down, you know, a team
like South Carolina. I only did twenty and I could
have done more, but like I said, I'd have had
to started early. And yo, South Carolina may or may
not have that great of a year, but this is

(18:22):
our potential. Absolutely see this. He's a great player. Illinois's
quarterback Luke Altemyer, Yeah, absolutely, he got to talk about
a team like Illinois. These are all teams being ranked
in the preseason Coaches Poll, preseason eight people. If they
want to stay in those polls, they got to win.

(18:43):
And it's a quarterbacks you know award. Yes, of course
last year, which I was Hunter you know, and probably
for the past couple of years with DeVante Smith back
in twenty twenty winning the Heisman as a receiver, and
of course Derek came back in twenty fifteen as a
running back. Quarterbacks win this award, and I think a

(19:06):
quarterback does win it this year. I think the Travis
Hunter thing, I think, I hope there's a lot more
people that have the same feeling as I did that
he shouldn't have won the Heisman. I just think he
was the most popular player, right, So I think a
quarterback wins. That's why I'm a little more quarterback centric
in this talk. But Luke Altmeyer, if Illinois has the

(19:27):
year and potentially compete in that top heavy Big Ten
and upset some people win some games, why not a
guy like Luke Altmeyer, Florida's quarterback DJ Lagway a lot
like Leonora Sellers, another guy that loves to run the ball,
as well. Great arm can run running gun in Florida,

(19:50):
another team in the preseason top twenty five. They go
as far as DJ Lagway is going to take them.
Last quarterback Arizona States quarterback Sam Levitt or leave it,
you know, why not? Another returning guy. All these guys
are returning quarterbacks. That's that means something to me, and

(20:15):
it means a lot to Heisman voters as well. Familiarity
in an offense, well merely familiarity with your players, learning
things on the fly, being more familiar with your offensive line,
your offensive corner. Things like that, I think are the
difference between playing and the Pop Tarts Bowl and playing

(20:37):
in a college football playoff, and then of course being
talked about the debut O'Brien as one of the best
quarterbacks in the country and being invited to New York.
So that's the favorites for the quarterbacks. And I got
two running backs. Yeah, you know, I know. The last
running back to win it was way back in twenty

(20:57):
fifteen with Derrick Henry, but he was the best player
in the country. Right to these two running backs, I
honestly see one of them winning the Dope Walker the
best running back of the Year award, one place for
Notre Dame and one place for Penn State. Jeremiah Love
for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish preseason top ten team

(21:17):
of course, getting a new quarterback. Sam Hartman's not there anymore.
I see them, Hey, let's run the rock with Jeremiah
Love and I see him having a great year. And
the other one, of course, Penn State Namy Lyons. Another
preseason top five team in Penn State. Nick Singleton, my guy.
I seriously think this guy is going to do some

(21:41):
great things. Him and Drew lar are gonna have that
offense on lock, and they're gonna take pressure off of
each other just to have great years. So look out
for those two running backs. I gotta throw a defensive
guy in there, just because technically, Travis Hunter was a
fifty to fifty guy. He played def and he played offense,

(22:01):
so I know, a true defensive player has not won
the Heisman in a very long time. Shout out to Dez,
but he really truly wasn't a defensive player either. He
was doing special teams. You know, he did a little
Travis Hunter things. They put him on offense every once
in a while. But this is a true defensive player,
and I think he's one of the best defensive players
in the country. The safety from Ohio State, Caleb Downs,

(22:25):
definitely could see him being drafted, you know, top twenty
and then in the draft coming up next year. You
want to shut down safety, you know, you want the
next best player in your back end, go after an
Ohio State player too, right, But Caleb Downs is my
favorite defensive player to win the Heisman. Now we're going

(22:48):
into the what ifs, like teams that these players potentially
do play for a top twenty five team. Maybe you
know their names, but if these teams overperform and possibly
get to greener pastors, these are the players that are
going to do it. Another couple of wide receivers I'm
going to start here, Ryan Williams from Alabama, see big

(23:12):
things from Alabama. Like I've said before, he's gonna be
the guy. He's the Jeremiah Smith of Alabama, and it's
going to come down to his quarterback play. Of course
in Alabama. With new quarterbacks in Ohio State, and I
do believe at Alabama as well, could be a great

(23:32):
year for a guy like Ryan Williams. But he's gonna
perform and He's probably gonna be one of those top
draft picks come April as well, So got to keep
an around on him. Jordan Tyson another wide receiver at
Arizona State. Definitely a sneaky team. Like I said, one
the big twelve last year in Arizona State. Jordan Tyson
is going to be the guy if they want to

(23:54):
get back to Dallas. Him and Satn Leavitt are going
to have to have that connection that they had last year.
And this is another guy the tet McMillan of twenty
twenty five, twenty six. If he goes out and he
has a good year, you know he can have a
good draft process. So that's Jordan Tyson at Arizona State.
Now let's get into the quarterback position. Like I said,

(24:15):
I'm a little heavier on this position this year just
because I see a quarterback winning it. There's a lot
of really good quarterbacks in this game this year as well.
John Mattier now ou quarterback. A little bit of smoke
going on right now that he potentially was betting on sports.

(24:36):
You know that's a no no in the college football game, now,
get it. You know they're they're getting paid now, and
but you don't gamble like that's that's a no no, like,
don't do that. I want to see if this actually
is is smoke or it's just bs, and see how
fanned that smoke gets. But John Mattier hell of a

(24:57):
quarterback at Wazoo last year. You know, ran all over
to SEC last year. And IFOU is gonna have a
good year, John Mitteer doesn't need to get suspended, get
kicked off, anything like that. And Oklahoma can have a
really good year. Like I said, I predicted, John Myteer
is a good quarterback. Carson Beck at Miami yet again,
a guy, new guy transferring into a pretty good program

(25:19):
at Miami. Of course, you know him at Georgia kind
of got pushed to the side at Georgia, right, So
we'll see can he do it at Miami. We'll see.
But if Miami has a good year and they're predicting them,
like I said, Miami being picked in the top ten
in the AP poll, Carson Beck's gonna be the guy
that's gonna get him there. Blake Corvath, here here's a

(25:40):
wild card for you at Navy. Great quarterback, you know,
did some great things last year, rushed for twenty five
touchdowns through for twenty five touchdowns. I can't remember the numbers,
but maybe had a great year last year. And why
not a guy like Blake Corbath. I have to talk
about him because I respect his game, and coming from

(26:01):
a military academy as well, why not from Nyvy like
Corvav Sawyer Robertson out of Baylor being definitely being talked
about up there with Sam Levitt as one of the best,
you know quarterbacks in the Big twelve. Not just because
they think Baylor is going to have a good year,
but I see him being talked about of course in

(26:22):
the draft process come April. You know he's got the size,
he's got everything. It's just can he perform for a team.
Mike Baylor didn't talk about them much in the offseason,
but they're one of those scary little middle pack teams
like a BYU and certain other teams that I think,
if overperformed, could see themselves in Dallas because nobody saw

(26:44):
I was on a state you know doing that last
year either. But this is another guy to keep your
eye on. Baron Morton, of course, Texas Texas quarterback injury
concerns of course, coming off of a surgery, but they're
saying that what he did the offseason to fix that shoulder,
he's throwing the ball better. And with this wide open

(27:08):
offense that we're gonna have, Texas Tech has never been
shy from scoring points. If you look, especially over this
last twenty something years. The air raid offense that you know,
throwing it around, averaging five six hundred yards, scoring thirty
five forty two points a game is Texas Techs thing

(27:28):
and it has been for decades. And this is the
guy that's gonna do it. If Texas text being talked
about preseason, why not a guy like Baron Morton Definitely
another guy to keep an eye on. And of course,
guy in my backyard, Kelvin Jennings out of SMU is
my last quarterback. Yeah, SMU, yet again another team overperformed

(27:49):
last year. If SMU wants to get back to Charlotte,
you know, playing in Bacup America Stadium, win the ACC
you know, conference tournament championship, maybe bet to Clemson, get
back to the College Football Playoff, this is the guy
that's gonna have to help him do it. That is
Kevin Jennings at SMU. Got another running back for you

(28:11):
another guy. Not the best running back class this year,
you know, going probably into April, that might change, of course,
going through a full college football season, guys come out
of nowhere. But this guy's a good player. Isaac Brown
out of Louisville. Another team probably in the middle of
the pack of the ACC. Not really necessarily getting a

(28:33):
whole lot of love. But with Miller Moss transferring from USC,
I do believe to Louisville, that's another team to pay
attention to. Teams like North Carolina as well. You gotta
always talk about a Florida State. Louisville could be a gangbuster.
They could be the SMU of this year in the ACC.
Defensive player for what if stud I think this is

(28:57):
probably one of the best cornerbacks in the game. Another
guy that you could see picked in the top twenty
in April. He goes by the name of Leonard Moore,
cornerback for Notre Dame. And if they want to get
back to the National Championship, if they want to avenge
you know that loss to Ohio State last year, win

(29:17):
a bunch of games, get back to the College Football Playoff.
Their defense was definitely helped him last year and you
have a guy like Jeremiah Love running the rock, You're
going to limit the other offenses opportunities. You're going to
kill time. And if you have a good defense, a
good secondary, a guy like Leonard Moore is going to

(29:39):
have to overproduce, of course to even be talked about Heisman.
But I mean, this is the what if category, right,
So let's get into the long shots. Shall we start
with quarterbacks? This is all just quarterbacks. I didn't dive
much into other positions for these long shots, but I'll

(30:03):
give you why. I looking at these guys. Some of
these guys you might know. Some of these guys you
might not. Avery Johnson at Kansas State. Now, if Kansas
State wants to perform, wants to go back to Dallas,
wants to win another Big Twelve title, I know they
haven't won one in a while, but the big bad

(30:23):
boys of the Big Twelve are gone. You know they've
all listed the sec kind of leaving that door open.
Arizona State ran through that door last year, right, why
can it be a Kansas State? But I did put
question marks here. I am hearing little rumblings about Kansas
State and Averie Johnson, about him possibly entering the transfer
portal this early to the season, it could be all bs,

(30:46):
but sometimes whether they's smoke, there's fire. But he's also
one of those Leonora sellers. He's got a lot of
DJ Lagway. He likes to run the ball, and that's scary,
you know, a multi threat quarterback. Look at the NFL, right,
they easily transfer. Look at Lamar Jackson, you know, you know,
look at some of these great players in the in
the NFL game. Josh Allen comes to mind as well.

(31:09):
They're not scared to use their feet as well. And
that's another guy, Avery Johnson, that can do it. And
if Kansas State, like I said, wants to get to
back where they want to go, Avery Johnson's the guy
is gonna do it. Darien Mensa at a duke, you
want to talk about a really long shot, This is
a guy Duke didn't really talk about them. They could
be one of those middle pack teams in the ACC.

(31:31):
But this guy has all the things I like when
I look into quarterbacks, as in potentially winning an award
overproducing and having a good you know, NFL career, impossibly
being drafted in the first round. You never know. Darien
Mensa out of Duke Caden Salter out of Colorado. Yeah,

(31:54):
that's a that's a baller. I liked him, I do
believe you. I can't remember where he was at, but
he transferred, of course to Colorado. No Shugar Sanders, no
tramps hunter Colorado. I see them regressing again, like like
I predicted two years ago. Of course they overproduced. I
just I don't know. It's hard to be a good

(32:16):
team two years in a row unless you're a blue blood, right,
But Caden Salter, that's a dude. If Colorado's gonna win
some games, Caden Salter is gonna make the guy that's
gonna help him do it. Niko, I am on a leiva.
I know, kind of a cop out. I know it's
probably for you to say a long shot might even
be too long of a shot at UCLA not seeing

(32:37):
a whole lot of things talked about about UCLA. But
there didn't have a good year last year, but he
could be the difference from a four or five win
year last year to a seven to eight win year,
and who knows, maybe usually has a monster year. But
they're definitely going to talk about these guys when it
comes to the draft process. Or more when it comes

(33:00):
to quarterbacks, he's all talk about these guys. That was
Nico I am Monaleva transfer him of course from Tennessee
to U s LA. Diego pave Vanderbilt. Why not overproduced
last year? We know Vanderbilt was one of those gangbusters.
You lump them in that pile with Georgia Tech, Indiana,
Arizona State overproduced. Right had one of the biggest, baddest

(33:25):
upsets in years, right beating Alabama last year. And like
I said, another returning quarterback. I love to see it.
The love his swagger, I love his demeanor. He kind
of has a little bit of that Baker Mayfield like
me against the world type thing. It works for some people,
some people that don't. But man, that's a good guy.
Diego pavea out of Bandy Rock obect out of Iowa

(33:49):
State yet again, another preseason top twenty five team. You'll
see them next week against k State. Returning guy as well,
Iowa State in the Big Twelve championship last year. Coming back.
He's got some really good players. It's going to be
a little more of a disadventure this year. He had
those great wide receivers last year, all got drafted right,

(34:11):
So it's going to have to be an uphill batter
for a guy like Bronco becked but still one of
the classier up top tier quarterbacks in the Big twelve.
Julian saying, here we go, this is Ohio State's projected starter.
Now can he be a gangbuster? Can he go out

(34:31):
and throw for forty fifty touchdowns thirty five forty five
hundred yards with a guy like Jeremiah Smith on the outside. Sure,
but I gotta talk about him because he's going to
get talked about as well. That's Julian sayan the Ohio
State quarterback, the projected starter, CJ. Carr. Here we go,
Notre Dame, another projected starter. Insert this guy, insert that

(34:58):
guy out goes Well Howard at Goo, Sam Hartman. Pretty
much a good team around you. Your quarterback is going
to have to play. And if Ohio State Notre Dame,
some of these teams that I've been talking about, I
want to have a good year, they have to come
in bam, hit the ground running, because hey, the pressure's

(35:18):
on you. And that is CJ. Carr and that is
Lloyd Carr's I do believe Granson if I'm not mistaken.
I don't know if I read that or not, but
I see c ar R and he plays for Michigan.
I think of Lloyd car So that's that's interesting for
him play Notre Dame, but you know, interesting, But that's CJ. Carr.
Ty Simpson the projected starter at Alabama. You know, he

(35:42):
kind of has the Juliansane thing going for him. He's
going to have Ryan Williams to throw to, and if
Alabama has a good year, this is the guy that's
going to get in there. Ty Simpson. Last guy, another guy,
you know, insert to a great team, a team that overperformed.
Fernando Mendoza, the projected starter for the Indiana Hoosiers yet again,

(36:08):
another preseason top twenty five team. A lot of things
going on around him. If he comes in and overproduces,
why not a guy like Fernando Mendosa. That's it. That's
my Heisman show is a little a little small. You know,
there's only probably about thirty thirty players. But who's to

(36:31):
say all those players that I just named, none of
them win the Heisman. Did anybody see Travis Hunter, you know,
winning the Heisman? Yeah, I'm sure there might have been
some people who quote unquote talked about it as a potential,
you know, top ten draft pick, sure going into last April.
But winning the Heisman, come on, let's be real. Heisman's hard. Yeah,

(36:53):
that's it for that. Let's talk about the college football playoffs, showy,
and we'll wrap up, you know, this offseason, and I'll
send you on your way. Start with the ACC Conference.
I think Clemson is the class class of that conference.
It seems like they have that locker room at Bank
of America Stadium along with the Carolina Panthers. That's their

(37:16):
locker room. It seems like the past ten to fifteen years,
they're always playing in Charlotte, always playing for the ACC
Conference championship. Not to beat on ACC, but they're the
big fish in a little pond. It's neither here nor there.
I see them playing SMU again. You know, it could
be a Louisville, it could be in North Carolina. Didn't

(37:38):
really talk much about them. I don't know the Bill
Belichick experience is going to work at North Carolina, but
if it does, it's gonna be very interesting. It's gonna
be good for college football. Definitely puts more eyes on
college football. But give me the two best teams, you know,
up and down. Give me the SMU Mistangs against Clemson,

(37:58):
but I think Clemson Winsay can just because of Kate
club Nick, just because of Dabo Sweeney. It's just it's
a cop out. I know it's hard, but Clemson wins
the ACC. Let's go to the Big Ten. I see
Ohio State going to the conference championship. They didn't get
to go last year, but that's because they lost to

(38:20):
Michigan at the end of the year, right, But I
see them facing Penn State instead of an Oregon but
Penn State gets the upper hand. Penn State wins the
Big Ten. I see big things from Penn State this year.
Big twelve Shucker, Shucker. I have my Texas Tech Red
Raiders in the national or non national championship in Dallas,

(38:43):
playing for the Big twelve Championship. Give me the K
State Wildcats. We will play them during the year, and
we lose to K State, but we play the rematch
pretty much in our backyard in Texas. A lot of
alumni live in the greater Dallas Fort Worth area. That's
going to be a sixty to forty crowd Texas Tech

(39:05):
and we win the Big twelve SEC, the Texas Longhorns.
You got to put them in preseason top team in
the country. Let's just put them in. But who they're
playing might make you go I got Alabama, as you
know I didn't. I don't see how of Georgia this year.

(39:29):
Remember I'm going off of all those twenty teams. I
have all their schedules, have all their rankings, all their wins,
all their losses, all in front of me, and I
only have Georgia going ninety three. So that means somebody
else has to come up. And I think Alabama with
their schedule, some of these great players Caitlyn de boor Yeah,

(39:54):
Alabama goes to the SEC championship, but Texas wins the
cc AS, as hard as it is for me to say, so,
there's your four conference championships for four conference champions. Sorry,
Now this year in the College Football Playoff, the one
thing that changed that the conference champions don't necessarily get

(40:20):
the buys. Now you're staying seem shouldn't the four conference
champions get the top four spots? Not necessarily. I have
you know Texas Tech as the outlier. Texas Tech would
be ten and two, eleven and two going into the
College Football Playoff, they will get a spot, but they

(40:42):
won't be one of the top four seeds. Now, I'm
gonna have Texas at number one with the first buy,
Clemson as two as the second buy. I got your
Big Ten champ, the Penn State Nitney Lions at three,
and then I have to throw in a team like
Ohio State. Now I could have put Bama in there,

(41:03):
or I put Ohio State in there, but those two teams,
you know, I see an SEC or a Big Ten team.
I just kind of flipped a coin and I said,
you know, heads Ohio State tells Bama because I think
the loser of those respected conference champions are going to

(41:25):
be ranked really, really high. So they're not going to
put a Texas Tech at number four, right, They're going
to put a team that's eleven and one. You know,
now eleven and two lost their conference championship. They'll put
them at the four instead of, like I said, like
a Texas Tech or somebody. But like I said, this
could interchange. It could be an Ohio State or it

(41:46):
could be a Bama. But I got Ohio State at
four in the five twelve matchup. I have my red
Raiders respectable. Right, they're saying, Okay, yeah, you won your conference.
You're not one of the four best teams in the country,
but we will put you at five. You get a
home game, and you get the twelve seed. Now, if this,

(42:06):
if I think they're going to do this again, I'm
not real sure. I have to double check. Get a
non power four in there. Get the best non power
four out there. Right now, it's Boise State. Kind of
a cop out. It could be Jammy right here. Hey,
it could be anybody. But give me the team that's
done it. Give me the team that is consistent. Give

(42:27):
me the Boise State Broncos at twelve. All right, the
six eleven matchup, that's Bama. You put Bama at six.
I could see Bamba being at five, but interchange Ohio
State at four and Bama at six. You could put
all Bama at four, and you can put Ohio State
at six. Either which way a Big ten team will

(42:48):
be or an SEC team will be at four or six.
So I gotta put Bama at six. And the six
to eleven matchup, I got the Illinois fighting a lion,
I making at their first college football playoff spot. That's
the six eleven matchup. The ten to seven matchup. Seven
is the Oregon Ducks. A quiet Oregon Ducks didn't get

(43:12):
to play in the conference championship game, but they'll be
ranked high enough that they're still going to make the playoffs.
So they'll come in at seven. Now here's my outlier,
this team at ten. I know I predicted them to
not necessarily have a good year. Nine to three I think,
And that's the Georgia Bulldogs. I just don't see them

(43:35):
not making the playoff. Yeah, if they do finish ninety three,
absolutely put in somebody else, right, a ten and two
big ten team, But you gotta let's kind of even
it out a little bit. That's kind of what I
was thinking too. So if I get one mulligan, it's
this one. I got Georgia at ten. I just them

(43:56):
completely not making the playoff just would surprise me, even
though I predict to them to go ninety three. So
that's just me taking them all again. That's the seven
to ten matchup, Oregon against Georgia. Last one would be
the eight to nine matchup. I have the eight seed
being the Tennessee Volunteers. Now I could have put other
teams here, but yeah, I don't know. Yeah, you know what,

(44:23):
I'm gonna change this. I'm gonna go Notre Dame. Yeah,
give me Notre Dame to make the playoff. I think that,
you know, I know I predicted them to go eleven
and one, but they could be a little higher. I
probably could have put them at seven or six, maybe

(44:44):
at five and moved Tech to like a six. But yeah,
give me Notre Dame. I think they have another good
year at eight, and they're going against the nine seed,
and that's going to be the Michigan Wolverines. Let's not
make it boring. Let's add some teams that didn't necessarily
have a good year, and let's change it up. I
don't think Arizona State goes back. I don't think Indiana

(45:06):
goes back. Let's put some new teams. Let's get some
new faces back into the college football playoff. Right, So
that's the eight to nine matchup, Notre Dame versus Michigan.
Now let's start with the five to twelve matchup. Texas
Tech's going to host this game. I do believe they're
still not changing that. The five, six, seven, and eight's

(45:26):
hosting those higher seeds. I do believe they're still going
to keep that at home game. I'm not sure yet.
Work that out. Doesn't matter. Texas Tech wins that game
against Boise State. Just depth, just a bigger batter team. No,
Ashton Jye t I think Texas Tech's going to have
a big year. So give me Texas Tech over Boise State.

(45:47):
They would move on to face the number one seed Texas.
But let's go to the eleven six matchup. That's Bama
hosting Illinois. This is where your season stops. Illinois. You
don't really get to play for a conference championship, but
you do get that Indiana spot from last year. But

(46:07):
this is where your season ends. Bama wins, they get
to go and play Clemson in the quarters. The seven
to ten matchup Oregon Georgia, Yeah, this is where okay Georgia. Yeah,
I gave you the mulligan. I gave you the wild card.
But Oregon is going to beat Georgia in the seven

(46:28):
ten matchup and they would go face Penn State. The
eight to nine matchup. Notre Dame at eight hosting Michigan.
That's a great game, a nice, you know, rivalry game.
But give me Notre Dame it's the same as Michigan,
you know, same as Illinois. You know, put two new

(46:49):
teams in and sorry, great year, but your year ends
against a good team like Notre Dame. Notre Dame wins,
they would face Ohio State in the quarters. So let's
go the one technically won five matchup, Texas against Texas Tech.
As much as I'd love to keep this ride going

(47:11):
and beat Texas to make, you know, the semifinals, it
would be great, but I have to bet with my
head not my heart. Give me the Longhorns over my
Red Raiders. In the two to six matchup, you would
have Clemson against Bama. Now this is where Bama season ends.

(47:32):
Great year, but give me the Clemson Tigers. They've been
held back for a little too long, especially last year,
and now this could be a coin flip as well.
Baman and Clemson. They have faced each other many times
in the college football playoffs and in the National Championship.
But give me Clemson in this matchup. The seven to
three matchup, that would be Oregon and Penn State. Another

(47:55):
great matchup, but give me the Nitney Lions over the
Oregon Ducks, and then we would have Notre Dame against
Ohio State in the quarter finals, and just like last year,
give me Ohio State to beat Notre Dame to make

(48:17):
the quarters or make the Simmis. Sorry, so here's the Simmis.
We got Ohio State in Texas yet again after they
played last year. Give me Texas, Clemson and Penn State
in the other semifinal in the other side of the bracket.
Give me we are Penn State to beat Clemson. Texas

(48:43):
and Penn State play for the national championship, and we
are Penn State. Wins the national championship gives the Big
Ten their third straight national championship. Texas chokes. I could

(49:06):
see it the opposite way. These are gonna be the
two teams preseason one and two. This year has a
good USC Texas field for Michel four h five. They're
just better than everybody. I mean, I just really truly
do Yeah, you throwing a random Ohio State, you gotta
throw in a team like Oregon and the Big Ten
as well of course the Ohio States and the Georgia's

(49:28):
as well. But man, give me the give me that matchup.
I think a Texas Penn State matchup would be a monster,
But I think out of those twelve teams, I'd say
a good eight that I predicted are gonna make it
just because of who they are. I mean absolutely so. Yeah,
Penn State, congratulations you win the twenty twenty five twenty

(49:50):
twenty six national Championship. Man, good, big ups to them. Man,
It's gonna be a great year. Like I said, it's
as all shit thing. Get those guys, y'all know that
this is all for fun. This is a I love
you know, Texas Texas Tech National Championship. Heck, I wouldn't
mind seeing Notre Dame in Ohio State play, you know,
run it back, but let's change it up like I said,

(50:12):
But you know, Big ten wins again. And because I'm
really hoping, you know, if it's an SEC versus Big Ten,
I'm ritting for the Big Ten all day. I just
you know, with Ohio State being in that conference. But
I love the additions of Oregon. I love the emergence
of a Penn State. Oregon's always awaiting in the wings,

(50:34):
you know, no pun intended, but yeah, I think the
SEC bias really needs to start getting dropped. And the
Big Ten win in a third straight I think that
will stop that talk, you know, because a sixty three
percent of the ap pole of the SEC is ranked,
and that ap pole sixty percent of the SEC, that's

(50:57):
a little egregious, right, sixty three twenty five, that's ridiculous.
I get what they do. I know the SEC runs
the game. Their sponsored, you know, Disney and ESPN, so
they're gonna get talked more about. They want more matchups
top you know, ranking matchups. But we see it every year.

(51:18):
Teams like Ole Miss and South Carolina and Florida and
the OUs, the LSU's they don't do it. It's always
the same two or three in the SEC that make
it to the top. Right, So it's neither here nor there.
But that's it, guys. We are officially wrapped up. Let
me wash my hands of off season because we're done.

(51:39):
As of right now, fifty one minutes into the show,
we are off season done. We are full fledged attack
into Week zero. Next week I will have Week zero preview.
Not the best leted games, like I said, but it's here,
Week zero preview show next week. Can't wait to do it.
College will here, Farmageddon is gonna do it. Dublin, Ireland.

(52:03):
That's where Game Day is Big twelve on Spotlight they
get the opening game of the year. Last year, Georgia
Tech Florida State, Florida State being I think at top
twenty five, top fifteen, maybe even top ten preseason ranked
team playing that Georgia Tech team looking at it that

(52:23):
going oh Man, Florida State should wax the Florida Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech goes out and beats Florida State. Florida State
finishes two and ten, three and nine. Whatever it was,
change the game right. College football got put on its
ass weak zero and you know k State Iowa State
being preseason top twenty five ranked teams going up against

(52:44):
each other. Farmer geddon a nice rivalry game to start
week zero. Start college football. It's a beautiful thing. I
cannot wait for it. I will talk to you guys
next week. Big shout out to buy blacket dot com

markets things like that. It's just helps us get out there,
you know. In Mike texted me yesterday, we have an
opportunity to get in a newsletter. They posts, you know,
this newsletter and they put different podcasts on there, and

(53:48):
we're going to be a part of it. So football
function is moving, you know, and we're moving in a
good direction. And like I said, I've always felt that
we are a great group of people. We have all
different kinds of personalities and how we talk football and
how we love football and how we like football and
all these things that are great that what we bring
to the table. Like I said, I consider us the

(54:09):
Avengers because we're all a team at the end of
the day, and we all want the same thing. We
want to be one of the best podcasts out there
because I feel we put great quality out and put
in the hard work and put our voice out there,
because it's not easy to find time to do all
this homework, find time to hit the record button, get

(54:29):
these shows sent out for Mike to get it published. Heck,
we had technology problems last week with that Illinois, Texas
tech show. Sent the wrong show. You know, didn't delete
the last show I had and sent it and it
was a duplicate. Had to redo it. That's why the
show dropped a couple of days later than it normally did.

(54:50):
Shit happens, you know, especially when it comes to technology,
when it comes to life. I know, schools starting this week,
you know, big upsall of the kiddos out there, have
a you know a year learn, get better, be be
the best you can. And to all the parents out there,
I know it's a nerve wrecking time to send your
kids off after having them all these couple of months

(55:12):
and you know, not getting to see him for eight
hours a day again. You know, some people are more
excited about it than others. But you know, if you're
sending your kid to those first day kindergarten, you know
that kid doesn't know anything about school, and those moms
and dads don't you know, it's it's a it's a
hard time, and I get it, you know, and but
you know, prayers to those kids. Hopefully nothing ever happens

(55:36):
to them and they learn and they get better and
become great people. I mean, because that's all it is.
And then school's starting, you know, I mean football seasons
right around the corner. And like I said, I hope
you guys take care of each other. I hope you
had a great summer. I hope you enjoyed this off
season process because it was a grind. I did so much,
but I put out a show every single week, and

(56:00):
I take pride in that. You know, whether you like
me or not, I still was consistent. I still brought it.
I still put passion into it. I put the hard work,
I put the effort, and like I said, I do
this for y'all. I hope you guys enjoyed it. I
hope you listen to every single minute and hopefully when
the show's over, you go man can't wait to listen
to his next show? Are you know I want to
