Speaker 1 (00:22):
Hello, Hello, Hello, How you going, How you doing? What
to do? The baby? Baby? You know that banger would
be by now? You know that is the sound, the song,
the theme of the college football function. You know the
voice by now, at least I hope you do. This

(00:45):
is the first time you're listening to a college football
function episode. I am the host that knows the most
about college football. I go by the name of CM
aka cousin Mike aka CM funk aka mister Stell your
grandma a a professor, CM aka just mister AKA here

(01:07):
to lead you along on this journey and the beautiful sport, chaotic, sport,
entertaining sport that is, of course, college football, my one
true love. Did you miss me? Because I missed you?
And you're probably saying, CM, yeah, how can you possibly

(01:32):
miss you know, recording your shows and doing homework and
doing all the work that you do. It was kind
of hard. Those first probably ten fourteen days were easy.
I'm not gonna lie. It was nice having to just

(01:53):
not have that extra thing on my plate because with life,
everybody knows you have significant and others and birthdays and
anniversaries and work, I mean all kinds of things that
go on in your normal day to day you know,
Sunday through Saturday, you know, lives, and it was nice

(02:14):
to not have to do anything that little extra part
of my you know life for from this part last
year till you know, just you know, a few short
weeks ago. It was nice. After those couple of weeks though,
I started to get the filling back. I'm ready to

(02:35):
come back. But as I said on that last show,
my draft dissertation, you know, professor CM going and going
through everybody's draft classes and you know it's talking about
some of my favorite players and things like that that
I was getting the month of May off, you know,
Mike's you know, simply said, hey, this happens in the

(02:57):
podcast world. We take vacations and take the month of
May off and in month of June, recharge your batteries
and come back, you know, full fledged, full steam ahead,
you know, ready to take on full off season mode
back into college football. Because last time you listened to me,
and probably the last couple of times you listened, I

(03:19):
was doing draft stuff, you know, getting you guys ready
for draft because it's that's college you know, who's going
to the Buffalo Bills and what round and blankety blank.
But we are full fledged into college football off season stuff.
Now what I'm going to do probably for the next
three or so months, you know, give or take. I

(03:41):
do believe we are getting close to actually three months.
At the end of August, we'll be kicking it off
with week zero, I do believe, and then you know,
it's full fledged ahead all the way through past Thanksgiving,
I do believe is last, and of course you know
conference championships, and then of course that beautiful thing that

(04:05):
is the College Football Playoff, the twelve team Playoff. The
inaugural year was last year. And first things first, this
did pass with an inaugural thing, There's always going to
be ways to tweet things. They're working on the NIL
stuff right now. And I talked about it last year.
I said it needs to be capped. I said, we

(04:26):
need to have a college football president or at least
a group of people that regulate college football. I don't
think these institutions one hundred and forty something. I do
believe Division I schools can kind of do what they
want to do for you know, X amount of time

(04:48):
with transfer portals. Let's limit transfer portals to it opened
right when the season ends and then opens up, you know,
when spring ball starts back again or reopens, you know,
whatever you want to call it, and then work on
the money thing. I do believe that they are making
some sort of college football playoff board. I do have

(05:12):
heard that Nick Saban is being talked about being part
of that board, kind of like what the college football
playoff does. They get a group of very educated people,
athletic directors, famous people, sometimes just college football fans in general,
and they're the ones paying attention to these games, you know,

(05:34):
right around Halloween most of the time, as you're really
starting to pay attention. Now me, of course, I'm paying
attention all year round. You know, we only have a
twelve game season in college twelve playoffs, so your window
of opportunity is very, very small with a twelve team playoff. Yes,

(05:56):
you can be a two loss team and still make
the twelve team playoffs, but you also have to be
any decent conference. You have to play somebody every once
in a while. You can't play the Central Michigans and
Ohio's and the Gramblings and you know, the jmus No
offense of course to Howard Poole. But you've got to

(06:18):
play a tough schedule too. Now, granted, the SEC has
always been the biggest and the best conference, you know,
adding of course Texas and Oklahoma. Last year they're talking
about SEC and Big Ten getting four spots apiece for
the College football playoffs, and the other two conferences, of course,

(06:41):
the ACC and Big twelve and the Power four kind
of fighting for the other ones. And you know, poor
teams like Boise State if you're in a Mountain West Conference,
Notre Dame, if you're un conference affiliated, the spots are limited,
so you kind of have to strengthen your skill s
edule play those juicy non conference games, those those week

(07:05):
zero week one matchups, and start the eyes on you
early to where you can stay ranked top twenty five
all year. Of course, winning cures all. You know, you win,
you know, ten eleven, of course, twelve games in a year,
more than likely you're going to get a chance to
go to that elite you know, tournament of course, to

(07:27):
play for a national championship in the college football. Well, but
we did have a change last year they did the
four buys went to the Power four conference champions and
this year they changed that. They're just gonna go with
the top four seeds. Could it be two sec and

(07:49):
two big tens? Absolutely, you can always there could be
only one sec, three big tens, maybe a big twelve. Hell,
you never know. SEC is only going to beat each
other up just because there's just so many giants in
that conference. Hold on one second, I gotta knock the
rust off. You know, I haven't hit that record button

(08:10):
in quite a few months or months week. Sorry, And heck,
I got to even restart this because I totally forgot
how to open up the damn show. So you know,
bear with me. You know, it's like riding a bike.
I have done this show probably well over two hundred times. Now,
what we're going to do? What I just said. You know,

(08:32):
with the top four seeds getting automatic qualifiers, I wish
they would change it to kind of what I came
up with that the the buys, they should get the
home games and put the neutral site games more for
of course five, six, seven, and eight, but make those
teams closer to you know, that designated stadium. I e.

(08:57):
Let's say USC comes in at as the five seed,
let them play in the Rose Bowl. Let's say a Miami,
a Florida, someone around that area. Maybe a Clemson, even Georgia.
You could as well let them play in the Orange Bowl.
All throughout wherever you're closest to that would be the

(09:20):
home team. You should be the closest going to that
team and make hopefully a team go from across the
country to come and play you. That always makes things
a lot different. But that's not neither here nor there.
They're already working on it, like I said, getting a board,
and they're doing the no automatic qualifiers. It's just the

(09:40):
four best teams get to buy. Now. What we're gonna
do in the offseason is, of course we're going to
break down schedules. We're gonna see who's going to be
the next twelve teams. And I only thought of it
necessary to start off right where we ended, at least
college football function wise. The last college football function, actual

(10:03):
college football show based on scores and stuff, recapping games
and stuff, was Aboards. The National Championship seems like a
long time ago. Coming at you, of course in May.
I hope you are having a great summer, because it
is technically summer here in Texas, with at least weather wise,

(10:25):
we really only get a couple of weeks of spring
you know, maybe some rain here or there, and then
you get into pre summer, and then of course school
just ended not too long ago, and that is really
the official start of summer. No kids going to school.
The smell of charcoal is of course in the air,
the smell of you know, cut grass if you are

(10:49):
a allergy person like me, the smell of fresh cut
grass and the pollenization of the grass being in the air. Yeah,
it is a it is hell sometimes, don't get me wrong,
but summer is one of my favorites of the seasons.
Of course, I am a summer baby. I am smack
dab in the middle of summer, the twenty second of July,

(11:12):
to be perfectly honest with you, that is my birthday,
smack dab in the middle of summer. And I look
forward to summer. I mean, there's so many things you
can do, splash pads and pools, barbecues. Heck, even just
sitting out on your canopy or your patio, cracking open
a few and just enjoying the weather. Now. Granted, sunburns

(11:34):
and mosquito bites and ants and the flies of course
are ari pester every single year. But you take the
good with the bad. The bad is not bad enough
to make your summer feel like hell. But as like
I said, we're going to start with the last two
teams that played in the last game of the college

(11:56):
football season. That is two twenty four, twenty five going
into twenty five to twenty six, that is the National
Championship two teams, the Ohio State Buckeyes of course winning
the National Championship, and then the team they played they
noted Dame Fighting Irish of course the runner up. That
was a great game. It was a great way to
end this season, you know. Of course, compared to the

(12:18):
Super Bowl this year, which was very lackluster. Philadelphia really
flexed her muscle on a poor Kansas City team. The
National Championship game was very, very entertaining. And I can
think of a few times in the National Championship game
one team just looks better than the other. It happens,
you know. I can think of Ohio State a few

(12:40):
years ago. There's been a lot I mean, I remember
Oklahoma one years. I mean there's a lot of teams
that you were just the best team all year and
no matter you know, who laced it up on the
opposite sidelines, whichever you know, legendary coach was playing against you,
just seem like you were the better team. Now it's

(13:03):
off with Ohio State, of course, you know, the reigning
national champions, of course led by Ryan Day, getting that
monkey off their back. Now one of their monkeys off
their back was, of course, losing to Michigan. I do
believe it's four or five years in a row winning
that National championship. Yes, it's very jubulant. It is. It's

(13:24):
the best feeling you can feel if you are a
of course college football fan. I mean you're NFL team
wins the Lombardi that is a great feeling. I remember
the last feeling I had, of course with my Texas
Rangers a few years ago. Of course, winning the World Series.
It's a great feeling. Now, some Ohio State fans will say, oh,

(13:46):
it was a great year, but that National Championship trophy
is kind of a little tarnished. It's got a dent
in it. It's because of the Michigan Wolverine effect. Now,
I thought that losing to Michigan at the end of
the year really changed their fortune going into postseason. That
if they would have beat Michigan, I don't think they

(14:06):
necessarily would have gotten to the national championship game and
kind of lay to nay. So see it how you will.
But let's go through the Ohio State buck Eys twenty
twenty four twenty twenty five season and see if they
can repeat, because it doesn't happen very often. A lot
of times the repeat national champion kind of stumbles. You know,

(14:32):
a lot of these teams have a big target on
their back. To start with, Ohio State is not, you know,
no exception when you look at Michigan, of course two
years ago kind of had a lackluster year, a very
senior led team, of course, with hardball leaving to the pros.
Michigan kind of had aleck luster year. But here we

(14:53):
go Ohio State. Let's go through their schedule is see
if they can go back to back. August thirtieth is
their first game, and it's a doozy and it has
already been picked up. It's gonna come on at a
noon kickoff slight of course Central Standard time. This one's
gonna be on Fox. And they are welcoming in their

(15:15):
semifinal team that they played any college football playoffs last
year in the Texas Longhorns, a team I do believe
did not get worse. If anything, they stayed as good
as they were last year, possibly better. They can contend
with the Ohio States, with the Georgia's, with the Alabamas,

(15:39):
with the Penn States of the world. They can get
any four or five star they want. They can turn
down any four star or five star they want, depending
on if they fit, they don't like their character, their discipline,
their X or X or X. They can pick and
choose their team team, and also with the transfer portal,

(16:03):
you get contacted from a guy like Ryan Day, you
can say, hey, I'd rather play at Ohio State than
Central Michigan next year and have a chance to of
course win a Big Ten title and of course contend
for a national championship. So August thirtieth, welcoming in Texas
noon kickoff on Fox Big noon kickoff will be there.

(16:29):
I think if they were playing at Texas, I would
give the Longhorns the benefit of the doubt. But it's
Ring Day, you know, it's Banner Day. It's I think
college football should do the exact same thing the NFL does.
Is the reigning champ open up at home against a
big time team and hang a banner and have the

(16:53):
culmination and then just kind of wash your hands and
start a new year. I think that's a win. It's
going to be a very close game, of course. I
mean there's no way Ohio State's gonnam off the floor
with Texas or vice versa. But we have also seen
in week zero, week one some teams lay an egg.

(17:15):
I can think of a USC versus Alabama one year.
I think it was a Chick fil A kickoff. Sometimes
you just get drove by a better team, and George
has done it to somebody before too. I can't remember
maybe an Oregon a couple of years ago in an
opening day game. But this is gonna be a fight.

(17:36):
These two teams fight again, you know, like I said
last year in the semifinals. But I think, howise it
gets the close wins, We'll go ahead and give them
the dub Opening Day the thirtieth, September sixth, of course,
another non conference game, but it's a cupcake. We got
grambling of course. You know. I put a W next

(17:57):
to this, a warning a star after a game like Texas,
a team that, of course is probably going to be
contending in the SEC. More than likely we will find
a college football playoff spot waiting for them come November December.
You kind of lay an eggs sometimes after a hard
fought week, but they still get the win. The spread

(18:20):
will be huge. Do they cover it, We'll see, but
that's still a win. September sixth against Grambling September thirteenth,
a cross state rival, very small rival, the Ohio Bobcats
in a smaller conference, of course, would that win could
send the Ohio Bobcats into the stratosphere knocking off a

(18:41):
potential I would probably say Texas and Texas and this
Ohio State team will be top ten ranked in the
preseason rankings. Another thing I don't really like based on
Springball of horse transfer portal and of course you're recruiting,
you're gonna pre rank these teams. It makes it fun,
get it. But we've also seen how ugly that can be.

(19:03):
Look at the Michigan Wolverines of last year. Look at
the Florida State seminals of last year. Being preseason ranked
don't really mean jack shit. And you all know that's
say September thirteenth, Like I said, the Oio Bobcats come
to town and the Buckeye flex their Muscle September twentieth,
first by you know, like I said, fourteen weeks, twelve games,

(19:24):
two byes, of course scattered without the fourteen weeks first by.
Great time for a bye right between your non conference
schedule and of course your conference schedule. So September twentieth
it is their first by September twenty seventh starts conference season.
And this is actually kind of a doozy. I got
this here as a sleeper game. I have a star

(19:47):
next to it. This could be a potential loss, of
potential hiccup losing this game. They have to go to
Washington to play the Huskies. Yes, this is not the
same Huskies that played in the National Championship game two
years ago to a Michigan Wolverines team. But it's that
cross country travel that is a long way away Ohio

(20:08):
to Washington. You're pretty much jumping three time zones. Your
body kind of gets a little weird. It happens all
the time. Cross country trips can sometimes spell disaster. Washington
has a great home field, you know environment, and that
could be a trap game. I do believe they still win, though,
give Ohio State that went at Washington. I'm gonna stay close.

(20:31):
I'm gonna say within fourteen points, just because that's a
tough team to play and a tough team to play.
At October fourth, come back home, you play the Minnesota
Golden Gophers, always a perennial team that can be a
thorn in your side. Are they good? Are they really good?
Or are they just eh? I think every single year

(20:53):
Minnesota has those teams, you know, seven and yeah, yeah,
seven and five. Maybe an eight and four year every
once in a while, but they're not gonna get that win.
Maybe if it was at Minnesota, I would say give
them the upset special. Not right here though, October eleventh,
Here we go, got to start next to this game.
I think this team is scary. I do love Brett Bilima.

(21:18):
I love the Illinois fighting Aliini had a great Bowl
game against South Carolina, one of the hottest teams in
the country last year towards the end of the season.
Have a lot coming back. I think if, of course,
you have the Ohio States, the Michigans, the penn States,
and the Oregons, you throw those, of course, the upper
echelon of the Big Ten, you would say, okay, yeah,

(21:41):
I could bet on those. One of those four teams
winning the Big Ten. But here's a dark horse. Here's
a little scary, underrated team. That is the Illinois Fighting
ALLIONI and I'm gonna call it right here. This is
ill I think Ohio State goes to Illinois. Crazy things
happen in shamp Pain. I wish they still had I

(22:02):
do believe it's an indoor stadium. I don't think they
have it anymore. I think it's an outdoor I could
be confusing them with Syracuse to be honest, same color scheme.
It happens. But Illinois, I think is going to contend
for a Big Ten title. I really truly believe so.
I love Brett Bilima. Now that was October eleventh. Their

(22:23):
first loss puts them at five and one. October eighteenth.
Here we go again. I put another star next to
this game. This is another tough game going to Wisconsin.
The Badgers are another team can be a thorn in
your side, A very hard place to play up in
Camp Randall jump around team seems to play better at home,

(22:45):
but with that loss the last week, you don't see
teams as good as the Ohio State Buckeyes are and
have been. You don't see him lose two weeks in
a row. Now, it could happen. Absolutely, that could send
shockwave through Columbus and the Horseshoe. And know absolutely you
would have to win out to even contend for a

(23:08):
Big Ten title and maybe sneak in as eleven or
twelve seed in the College Football Playoff, of course based
on other teams. But that's a good win right there
at Wisconsin. That's a good resume building win. October twenty
fifth is their last by perfect buye with September twentieth
being their first, going to Washington at Illinois at Wisconsin.

(23:32):
Of course, Minnesota kind of sprinkled in the middle. That's
a good time for a buy Let's lick our wounds.
You do have a loss under our belt. Let's get
our shit together and let's close the year on a
high note and contend for a Big Ten title. November first,
Penn State comes to the Buckeye State. I think that's

(23:53):
a team that was a darling last year. Yet again,
another semifinal team that made it to the final four
last year took great steps forward. I love Drew Ler,
even though mister Howard Pool, mister Penn State is not
a fan of him. I see him as a potential
top ten draft pick come draft season next year. I

(24:16):
think he has what it takes. I love a good
quarterback that has the system underneath him, has a few
years under his belt. I do believe Nick Singleton is
coming back as well. But that's where the compliments stop.
They win against Penn State November first, just for the
simple fact as they're playing at home and the bye

(24:38):
week the week before last, I give them two weeks
to play for Penn State. It almost seems like every
year this happens to Penn State the week they play
Ohio State the week before Penn State has to play.
Hopefully Penn State's bye week is that week as well
as Ohio State. That with even the playing field playing

(25:00):
at home, I think Ohio State gets the close win.
I'm gonna say within seven. November eighth, here we go,
right here, I have a tea next to this game.
It's at Purdue. Strange things happen at Purdue in late
October and November. I've seen it before. It's a letdown

(25:20):
game after a game like Penn State, even a team
that I do believe can contend for a Big Ten title,
you get so high you practice so hard for a
team like the Nitty Lions, then you turn around go
to a team like Purdue that's just seems to have
your number every once in a while, but they will
exercise their demons. Get the dub at Purdue. I see

(25:41):
closer than the experts think though. November fifteenth, here's the
nice stretch, you know, with November eighth, with perdue November fifteenth,
Welcome in the UCLA Bruins yet again, a struggling UCLA Bruins.
I do believe Deshan Froster is still the head coach
down there. Not real sure. Sometimes that second year in

(26:04):
running a team, being the head coach, you do take
strives forward. I just think they're still years away and
they still have to get this year right to be
talked about, as you know some of these big boys
in the Big Ten. So Usile takes the cross country
trip to Columbus and loses to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

(26:25):
Here we go again, November twenty second, the Rutgers Scarlet
Knights come a calling yet again. Another cupcake, another team
that's probably gonna finish in the bottom half of the
Big Ten. Just can't hang with the likes of Ohio State,
Penn State, Oregon, you know, Washington, Michigan, all those guys.

(26:47):
They can't hang with them. They just don't have the players.
So Rutgers gets the loss right there, of course, to
these Ohio State Buckeyes. November twenty ninth, here we go.
It's always a Saturday after Thanksgiving. It's the perennial monkey
that is on their back, and that weight keeps getting heavier.

(27:10):
That monkey is turned into an orangutan. That orangutan has
turned into a silver bat guerrilla hanging on the Ohio
State fan base, their programmed their alumni. There's an alumni
that had played for Ohio State. They played for Ohio
State four years and they never lost to Michigan. You know,

(27:31):
I do believe they have at least a four game
losing streak to the Michigan Wolverines and they have to
go to the Big House. I think Michigan is still
a great team. I still believe that they're going to contend.
There will be the fourth or fifth best team in
their conference. And they want to go five and zero
or maybe even six to oh against these Ohio State Buckeyes.

(27:52):
For all those years in a row, very tough, but
Jeremiah Smith has a great year. I know they're replacing
a lot of players on that Ohio State team. Very
reminiscent these two teams, very mirror images of these two teams.
I say, can have a bad year like Michigan did
last year after winning the national championship two years ago,

(28:15):
losing a lot of players, but they still have Ryan
Day and here we go, Monkey gets off their back.
They went at the Big House and exude them demons
because now there can be no any beef with Ryan Day.
I know a lot of people were happy that they
won the national championship, but there are still a lot

(28:36):
of die hard Ohio State fans I know of that
still say you still need to beat Michigan. Damnit. Like
that team up north, that's just what they call them.
You have to beat that team. And I think they
finally do. It. Looks like that gets them eleven and
one as a finished record. That definitely puts you in
contention for a Big Ten title. Of course, with that

(28:59):
loss a tuber eleventh at Illinois, Illinois goes out and
you know, wins eleven games. That those two teams could
play again for a conference championship. But you also have
to throwin teams like Penn State. They're not playing Oregon
this year, They're not playing a team like USC who
I think could take steps forward. You never know with

(29:19):
a conference like Big Ten, who's gonna step forward and
take it because you don't usually see back to back
years of these teams winning the conference over and over
and over. So eleven and one, that's definitely a college
football playoff spot. So we're gonna put them go ahead
and squad them in at least in pencil in the

(29:40):
college football playoff at least four. Now, now let's go
to the national runners up. Last year. The Notre Dame
Fighting Irish had a great year last year. I think
they gave Ohio State probably one of the their biggest
fights of all year, and of course it happens in
the national championship. Marcus Freeman leading these Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

(30:03):
They're a hell of a team. I like his coaching spirit.
He's an alumni, ex linebacker, a tough type guy. Love him.
I'm not a big fan, of course with Notre Dame,
but Marcus Freeman is definitely leading these Notre Dame Fighting
Irish in a great direction because even me and maybe

(30:24):
even some people older than me can remember Notre Dame
had some years where they were just kind of or
decent or just good. I think this team has a
potential to be great. But here we go Sunday, August
thirty four, August thirty first, Sorry, it's their opening day game,
and it's not an easy game at all. They're going

(30:46):
to Miami to play the Hurricanes. Now I think the
Hurricanes kind of take a step back. Of course, this
is a Hurricanes team I think finished nine to three
something along those lines. Kind of fell off at the
end of the year. But lose guys like cam Ward
the number one overall pick, guys like Xavier Restrepo. Can

(31:07):
they continue success. It's very hard to have continued success
in college football. But I still think Notre Dame can
win that game, and I'm gonna go ahead and give
them the dub. At Miami September sixth is their first buy.
Very disheartening. You don't want your buys that early, at

(31:27):
least your first buy that early, but it is what
it is. Some people get the end of the short
end of the stick. It just happens. It's gonna happen
to some team, So you're just gonna have to deal
with it. You can't cry, piss bit your mom. Week three,
September thirteenth, Here we go again, another tough team, but
they are welcoming them in. This is a ver official

(31:49):
home opener, and they're welcoming in. The Texas A and
m Aggie's definitely a team question marks. They can recruit
with the best, I do believe. If so, they got
very deep pockets down in Well Country, of course, down
in Kyle Field and around that area. It is what
it is. But I don't think A and MS can

(32:11):
still contend home opener. Of course for Notre Dame, I
think they squeak out a win. Texas A and M
could make it interesting, but I still think Notre Dame's
just a little bit better of a team. I'm gonna
give it just because of the head coach gets the
win right there. September twentieth. You know, of course Notre

(32:31):
Dame being you know, not conference affiliated, they're going to
play mostly of course ACC teams, they play some Big
ten teams. They just kind of make their own schedule.
Sometimes it works out, sometimes it don't. But September twentieth,
they welcome in Perdue the boiler Makers. Yet again, a

(32:53):
team just can't hang with the likes of Notre Dame.
So give Notre Dame a debt. Dove right there or
September twentieth against Perdue. September twenty seventh, take a road
trip to Arkansas. I put a tea right here. I
thought it was a pretty decent team last year. They're

(33:13):
around the Michigans of the SEC, can be up there,
but can be the middle of the pack as well.
Are they gonna have just about the same kind of
caliber of players as a Notre Dame. I would say yes,
but I still got to give the Notre Dame vity
Irish the benefit of the doubt. I think that's a win.

(33:34):
That's a tough win though. September twenty seventh, definitely get
your a resume building win right there with the Miami,
the Texas A and m and the arkansass it's definitely
strength of schedule. I know they don't talk about that.
I know that's not really in some of the things
they bring up, but you know it has to be
talked about within closed doors. It's like who did you play?

(33:55):
You know, because you can look at a Miami at
Texas A and M and of course that Arkansas team
the week before, or they could have bad years and
your schedule don't look as juicy compared to a team
that they're trying to pick in praud and trying to
get the best twelve teams. Of course, in the college
football playoff. October fourth, here we go, Welcome in Boise State.

(34:17):
It could be an interesting game. I mean, everybody knows
who Boise State is. Blue Field. You know, a lot
of great things have come out of that team. Of course,
last year with I thought, in my opinion, the Heisman winner,
if I had to vote for the Heisman winner, I
would have voted for Eshton Janet. Just a multi generational

(34:38):
running back that was fought for of course in the
draft process. But can they reload? Are they in the
rebuild mode? Ashton Genetis just don't come around every single year.
So I got to give that win right there to
Notre Dame just because they're playing at home. October eleventh,

(34:59):
Welcome man the NC State Wolfpack. You know another team.
I would call them a middle of the road ACC team.
Could be good, could be trash, It could be good,
It could it be a shit. You know, you never know,
I mean, you really don't. But I got a benefit
for that. With Notre Dame. I think they're kind of

(35:21):
sometimes you come out that year of losing the national
championship and you kind of learn from it, and some
teams don't ask the TCU horn Frogs that. I think
Georgia beat them so bad a couple of years ago
that it kind of set them back, to be perfectly
honest with you, so it could be interesting. So that

(35:44):
is definitely that October eighteenth, here we go rivalry game.
I've been hearing that they're trying to keep this game going,
and I think, just for the average college football fan
and of course your college football fanatic that is myself,
I think this game needs to happen every single year.

(36:05):
I think how State Michigan should play every single year,
Texas Texas A and M should play every single year.
I would love to play the Texas Longhorns every single year.
It's just great for the game. You know, there's gonna
be a lot of people that watch it, and that
is of course, the USC Trojans against Notre Dame, two
hated rivals have had a long standing feud between those

(36:29):
two teams USC and of course Notre Dame rivalry game
October eighteenth. USC comes to Indiana cross country trip from USC.
USC is definitely a wild card. I think Lincoln Riley
has definitely his seat's definitely warm. He's definitely the James

(36:50):
Franklin and Ryan Day of last year that hey, buddy,
you're at USC. You know you need to start winning
and win now. You transformed in Oklahoma program. You know
you are a contender damn near every single year, with
of course Oklahoma being in the Big twelve. When are

(37:11):
you going to do that for USC? Because the Big
ten is bigger and badder. So I don't know what
I think. USC travels to Indiana and loses to Notre
Dame October eighteenth, October twenty fifth, last bye, goodbye, just
because this last half of their season, or I guess

(37:33):
last less than half of their season. It's a little
on the easier side. They've had a pretty tough schedule USC.
I would say it's a tough team. Boise State could
be are at Arkansas. I see that could be a
potential trap game as well, And of course A and
M and Miami has already been on their schedule, you
go undefeeded through that tough stretch, you should have a

(37:54):
little break. So here you go. There's their break. October
twenty fifth is their last. By November first, their next game,
they go to BC to play the Eagles. Just in that.
Yet again, another team just in the ACC. Just not
that good. I mean, heck, they could even be in
a Big ten. I'm not real sure. And that just

(38:16):
tells you that they're just not up there. I'm not
saying if you're a BC fan that your team's gonna suck.
I just think Notre Dame's just better, and I got
to give them a win at BC. Could be a
trap game though, you never know, but that's two weeks
that they've had to prepare for the Boston College Eagles.
November eighth, Here we go, right here. Navy could be

(38:38):
a thorn in the back, a team on them, an army.
You have a great rivalry, one of my favorite Robberry
games period. Could be a good team. You never know
as well. I think they had a Cinderella type season
last year with their quarterback. Could be a trap game,
but maybe go in there. So I gotta give Notre

(38:58):
Dame a win right there. November fifteenth, at pitt the
Pit Panthers. That is definitely an ACC team. The way
I'm looking at it right now, Notre Dame's looking like
they're gonna go undefeated. I don't think it's gonna happen.
So let's give them a trap game, and let's give

(39:19):
them a loss. Right here at Pit you kind of
get a little too high. You're kind of like thinking,
your shit don't stink, and oh, you're just gonna breathe
through this lesser quote unquote part of your schedule, and
you're gonna get let down. Someone's gonna have your number,
and someone's gonna have an ace in their pocket. And
I think that could be number fifteenth at Pit November

(39:41):
twenty second. Welcome in the Syracuse Orange Man. They get
right right here. That is a dub, just knowing, hey,
let's not lose any more games. Let's, you know, finish
the season strong with their last game. They're gonna beat
Syracuse November twenty second, at home, November twenty ninth, last

(40:01):
game of the season. Have a cross country trip. Very tough,
I get it, very very tough. Okay, sorry, yeah, I
had to stop again to get something to drink. Man,
I'm not used to this talking stuff. Last game November
twenty ninth at Stanford I used to be a rivalry

(40:22):
I think it used to be. I could be wrong
usually that last week of the season if I'm not,
you know, losing my shit at all, but I think
that's usually rivalry weekend. That could be a rivalry game.
And of course it's a cross country trip. These Notre
Dame fighting ivers have to travel to California to play
the Stanford Cardinal. But I think this Notre Dame teams

(40:44):
learned a lot from last year, giving Ohio State all
they wanted in the National championship. Blody, bloody blah. I
still think they win there. We go eleven and one.
Final record could be twelve and oh but they also
could have an eight and four season at Miami, welcoming
in Texas A and m A, Texas A and m

(41:05):
that could be a wild card, could be a contender
in the SEC. Going to Arkansas, Boise State, going into
Indiana to play these guys rivalry game against USC. USC
would love to beat the national runners up. You would
see that. And then you have that little bunch between
November one and twenty ninth with lesser opponents, and you
can let down even against a team like Navy that

(41:27):
I gave him a win for. So I'm gonna give
them a good shot, but you never know wheels could
come off. I'm gonna say eleven to one definitely get
you in the college football playoff. Let's just see how
much better they are this year than they were last year.
So it doesn't for me, guys. That was the two
national championship teams that played last year for of course

(41:49):
that trophy, Ohio State winning it and Notre Dame of
course finishing as the national runners up. Next time I
talk to you, guys, I'm gonna do the other semifinal
unless the other two of the final four that of
course lost to these two teams. I'm going to do
the Texas Longhorns, of course, with Sarkesian running the ship.

(42:11):
I do believe this is his fourth year, maybe fifth year,
I'm not really sure. Definitely a team you have to
take seriously. Arch Manning is he the guy? I mean,
quinn Ewers had his moments last year. I just think

(42:31):
everybody was chomping at the bit and wanting to see
guy A guy like arch Manning. Don't get me wrong played,
you know, of course in the SEC Championship last year,
but of course going zero to two against Georgia once
during the year and then of course in the SEC Championship.
I think the SEC still runs through Georgia, but you know,

(42:54):
go back to an SEC Championship, you know, game and
win it and kind of really eh your claim as hey,
we're a new team, this is our second year. We
went last year lost, Now we're going back and we're
gonna win it. And they have the talent to do it.
I mean, there again, yet another team that they can
pick and choose and turn down for in five star

(43:15):
guys and just kind of build around and then in
the transfer portal the nil stuff. They're just another national contender.
The Texas Longhorns. Other team, another Big ten team. I
think a team took great, great steps forward. I think
James Franklin definitely hit the temperature, you know, control on

(43:38):
his hot seat last year and down to cool. I mean,
it was pretty hot up there in Pennsylvania and the
penn State Anty lyons that hey, dude, you got to
start winning and start winning now, or we're going to
kick your ads out and we'll find somebody that can
do it. Penn State great team. Losing Abdol Carter though,
is definitely gonna hurt. Like I said, a guy like

(44:01):
Drew lar Nick Singleton, they have every chance in the
world to go out and win the Big Ten NBA
just a contender, hang around with the Ohio States, hang
around with the Oregons and the Michigans, and of course
some of those other great teams that they have in
the Big Ten that is Texas and Penn State coming
at you next week, you guys, I hope you had

(44:24):
a great little vacation for me. I hope you missed me,
because I really did. Like I said, those first couple
of weeks, it was nice, so nice. But after those
couple of weeks, after I was like, ugh, man, I
am itching. I got the itch to hit that record
button and talk some college football because, like I said,

(44:45):
we are about three months away give or take from
college football, and before you know it, it is gonna
be June. It'll be you know, July fourth. Next year,
you know it is going to be August, and that
is when the season starts at the end of August.
And you know, these days, summer days go by so fast.

(45:05):
Your kids just got out of school, and it seems
like they just got out of school. And next thing
you know, you're taking them school shopping, going and getting
them clothes and shoes and binders and all that good shit,
getting them ready to go back to school. And then
you turn around, football is right back up and just
as fast as you waited. And just how it seems
how long you had to wait for college football to start.

(45:28):
It's over in a blink of an eye, man, And
then you're back into you know, like I said, conference titles,
aspirations and shots, college football playoff and then we're back
where I was just a few months, a few short
weeks ago, talking draft stuff. So football season is year round,
it really is. I appreciate the month off, mic, I

(45:50):
absolutely do. Definitely well needed. I absolutely told him this is,
you know, hand to God, I told him I need
a break. But I I was only wanting like a week,
maybe two weeks at the most, just to recharge the batteries, start,
you know, building these shows, start getting homework done to
where I could take that week or two off and

(46:12):
then I can just hit the ground running and start
talking college football, breaking down schedules. Still got a couple
more things I want to do for you guys. Talk Heisman,
you know who could win the Heisman this year? Of course,
let's predict the college football playoff, all that good stuff.
You know. I'm gonna give you some dark horses out
of conferences, teams to look out for, Teams that could

(46:34):
you know, that were really good last year may take
a few steps back. I mean it happens every single year.
I mean, you've seen in the NFL all the time.
Every I think in the NFL there's four teams every
single year make the playoffs the next year that didn't
make the playoffs the year before. It's interesting. You got

(46:56):
to grow. You have to grow, or if you have
those losing seasons, you lose your coach. You try to
go find your next one. So big shouts to all
the countries out there, the New Ones, Singapore, Sweden, Denmark
and Japan, Portugal, Canada, India, Ireland, Morocco, Poland, Germany, Australia, Ecuador, Myanmar, France,
the UK, Venezuela, Haiti, Indonesia, Ghana, Saudi Arabia, Gambia, Turkey, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Peru, Mexico, Slovakia, Uganda, Israel,

(47:26):
New Zealand, Italy, Lithuania, Belgium, Brazil, Estonia, Espanya, Russia, Switzerland,
the Philippines, Uzbekistan and Ethiopia. Pretty much. If you're not
in the Great United States of America and you're across
those oceans, I cannot thank you enough. I hope this

(47:47):
hiatus didn't turn you off, that you weren't getting alerts
on your Patreon or however you listen to us, you know, Spotify, Google, Apple,
all the places you can and find the football function
that every week you would go and oh, I hope
they have a new show, and they did it, And
I hope we didn't turn you guys off. I just

(48:08):
hope we built up a hunger that you know, made
you guys miss us that we also needed as well
to recharge our batteries, get back to full form. Because
it may be offseason, but this is when the work
really gets done. This is when we prepare for this season.
This is I said, we're only a few short months

(48:30):
away from kickoff, and I want to get you guys
ready as much as possible, talk about as many teams
as I possibly can, show you things, talk about things
so during the season you don't quite get lost, you
don't go oh man, you know CEM didn't really talk
about that team. It happens every single year, Indiana. Who's

(48:52):
gonna be the Indiana Hoosiers of last year? It's gonna happen.
Who's it gonna be. Maybe CM will be able to
pick that team for you. And you know, if you
like what I say, I mean I don't acknowledge betting.
I mean I'm a better myself. Don't get me wrong.

(49:15):
If you take what I say to the bank, very
take it very loosely. But if you do win, hey
you're welcome. But if you lose, hey, I sorry. I mean,
I don't know what to tell you. But this is
all shits and giggles, guys. This is just to keep you, guys,
the college football fanatics like me. Even if you're just
a normal, you know, average college football fan. You'll watch it,

(49:38):
of course, as much as you can. But I want
to turn normal college football fans into college football fanatics,
college football lovers like myself, because I could talk college
football all day long. So for the next like I said,
three months, give or take three and a half months,

(50:00):
I'm going to be giving you teams, maybe two an
episode maybe three. I want to get a good twenty five, thirty,
maybe even more. Definitely give you talk about let's talk
about the Indiana Hoosiers. Let's see if they can keep
up what they had going last year. Definitely talk about
the Georgia's Is and the Alabamas. We got to talk

(50:22):
about Arizona State, you know, the reigning Big twelve champ.
You got to look in the ACC, bring up the
Clemson Tigers. There's a lot of teams that have to
be talked about, just because if you don't talk about
those teams, you're kind of setting a disrespect to college
football because they're definitely teams that you have to take

(50:42):
into consideration when it becomes teams that could potentially win
national titles. So big ups, of course to the football function.
Those guys, my greator appreciate the time off. I appreciate it.
It's well needed. I hope you guys can tell I
am fucking recharged. I am ready with summer right now,

(51:03):
you know, graduations and summer being you know, no no school.
I do believe the finals is about to start here
pretty soon. The Stanley Cup Finals is probably going to
start pretty soon. We got College World Series coming for
college You have baseball in full swing, not my area

(51:25):
of expertise, I still watch it. I am a big
Rangers fan, don't get me wrong, but I am full
fledged ahead looking forward to college football. So big ups
to those guys. I know they're getting their stuff ready.
Guys like Goose and of course the Grim been in
contact with him. Big things coming, of course with college football,

(51:45):
and not just me, but with the football function as well.
I will still be here, you know, of course, guiding
this boat that is college football, doing my best because
college football is very grand, it is huge. There is
a lot of teams that need and deserve to be
talked about. And I'm gonna do my damnedest within this
short few months and get you guys ready for the

(52:07):
college football season. Like I said, talk Heisman, talk all
kinds of stuff, and get you guys ready for the
upcoming season. So yeah, Goose and of course the Grim,
Reefer and Claire, of course Patrion of the Year, Howard Poole,
Guys like KG and Kevin Watson, Big John Carrosco, Detroit,
Kyle Djin Cools Mo my boy, like I said, of course,

(52:30):
the Graham, all you guys, man, I cannot do it
without you. I appreciate y'all so much. I do it
for y'all. I hope you guys listen every single week.
I hope you yearn I hope you expected on a
certain day because I want to do that for you guys.
I want to get as many episodes as I can
get you ready for the college football season. So get

(52:52):
the Patreon that guys you know coming up on fifty
two minutes on this episode. To get the patreton that
pay that dollar a month, and you don't have to
listen to Cem talk about the Notre Dame fighting Irish
and bam there's an ad talking about god knows what.
Get the Patreon that pay that dollar a month and
get these shows, not just mine the football function show,

(53:17):
the podcast ad free. That'll be the best dollar you
spent all months. Because Michaeil tell you there's going to
be two, three, maybe even four shows, five shows a week.
Ideally he would love to have a show a week.
I know he does. The guy just is Captain America.

(53:37):
He does it all. I know it seems like my
job is hard. I send this show off to him
and he does the magic. He takes what I did,
and publishes it and puts it up and does all
the hard work. All I have to do is hit
the record button and read what I have on my paper.
That's all I have to do. So big ups to
him and all the other guys, Terry Minifield and all

(53:57):
those other guys that are going to do it. Bring
you all the good stuff that is NFL. I'm taking
care of college football. So if you want to reach
