Speaker 1 (00:05):
M m m h. Hello, Hello, Hello, how get going?
(00:31):
How you doing what you do? Baby? Baby? You know
that banger a bet by now? You know it's the
intro of the sound of the song A bean to
the college football function. You ask, what is the college
football function? And who the heck are you? Who is
this voice I'm listening to. I go by the name
(00:53):
of CM aka Cousin Mike aka CM funk Ah, just
the host that knows the most about college football, here
to enlighten you on the college football game. I'm just
the voice of college football. It's one of my true loves.
(01:14):
Been indoctrinated in college football for so long. I am
a diehard Texas Decord Raider, a soft core Ohio State
Buckeyes fan. I'm just a fan of college football. If
college football is on, I can guarantee you I can
find a game on whichever channel could be a streaming service.
(01:39):
At a bar, you know, I had to get together, bloody,
bloody block. I love the tailgating experience. I love the
home field advantages, the wide array of different kinds of
teams and conferences, and just the sheer chaos that is
college football. The first time you're listening I appreciate you
(02:02):
for listening. Please just keep listening, and if you like,
you know, this episode and some of the other ones,
I strongly suggest to put our name out there, say hey,
you know, listen to this crazy guy from Loveck, Texas
talk to college football because he seems very passionate about it,
and I truly do. I can talk college football for hours.
(02:26):
And you know, I know a lot about a lot
of teams, and then again I don't know a lot
about some teams. This is the off season mode. Still,
of course, happy July. We have July fourth coming up.
The show should be up, you know, maybe in the
next day or two. But we're getting closer. You know,
(02:49):
the month of June has already passed. We are in July.
Have a happy and safe Fourth of July. Please. It
almost seems like every year something bad happens on Fourth
of July. Kind of strange. What's going on here where
I live in West Texas. It's like monsoon season. I mean,
(03:10):
we are getting gallons and gallons of rain. It's a
good thing and a bad thing. Now you'll say, how
is it a bad thing? Seem you know, the grass
gets green, you know, you know you can have the
possibility of fireworks. You're not gonna burn down, you know, Texas,
Texas isn't going to have acres upon acres of land burnt.
(03:34):
It's still a possibility, sure, but where I live, you know,
you can't pop fireworks in the city limits. But you know,
everybody knows that that happens, especially if you live in
Texas or even you know, wherever you live, you know,
whether it's Maryland or Oregon. Heck, even in Michigan, Florida,
you know all these other states. It's it's a bad
(03:57):
thing because the humidity. I've said this before. I'm a
big dry heat guy. I can take one hundred and
five degrees with very minimal humidity over eighty five ninety
ninety five degrees and eighty ninety ninety five percent humidity.
It's just you feel muggy. The air feels thick. You know,
(04:20):
you've took a shower earlier in the day and you
just still kind of feel moist all all stinking day. Yeah,
the grass grows a lot faster, and I feel, you know,
like me, you got to cut your grass more often. Heck,
it hasn't stopped raining and the sun hasn't come up
in a few days. It feels like Seattle right here
(04:40):
in Lower Texas. But have a happy say Fourth of July,
like I said, enjoy yourselves. You know, it's on a
Friday this year, so that's even more of a good
excuse to have fun. Most people aren't going to work
on fourth of July. Everything's usually closed Independence Day. So
when you're celebrating, remember what we're celebrating, and do it responsibly.
(05:05):
Like I said, I'm not going to be a stick
in the mud. I'm not going to tell you to
not have fun. You go crazy, but do it safely.
You know what I'm saying. There's gonna be people going
to sleep on July third with all ten fingers and
going to sleep on July fourth or July fifth, and
they're going to be missing an appendage or got shot
with a bottle rocket. My mother, you know, God, I
(05:28):
love her to death, you know, still in my life,
of course, but got hit in the ass one year
with a bottle rocket and to this day she doesn't
like fireworks, you know, people blowing off their fingers. There's
always mishaps. You always see it on you know, certain
internet sites. You can see an artillery shell blow up
(05:51):
in the canister and only go up like twelve feet
and explode. I mean, all things can happen, but like
I said, do it safely, do it for the right reasons,
and just enjoy yourself. So and that means we're one
month closer, right, We're still in off season mode. Like
I said, this is going to be. This is a
special episode. Absolutely doing this one for of course, old
(06:17):
football Function voice Double J. Big ups to the Michigan
boy himself up there in Michigan, die hard Michigan Wolverines fan.
It's the same boat I'm in. You know, where you
live sometimes is who you root for. You know, I've
been in love it most of my life, and I've
been a Texas Tech fan since as long as I
(06:40):
can remember. And I'm sure guys like Double J and
even other people can say, hey, I am a die
hard Florida Gator fans. I live fifteen miles outside of Gainesville,
or I live in Gainesville, so on and so forth,
and the other team I'm going to do, of course,
the voice of the Football Function Captain America. Come the
(07:00):
guy who you know waves that banner high and proud,
just like I do. Without him. The football function would
just be still a whisper, you know, it would still
be a thought. He came out and you know, with
of course Terry Minefield and Andy Lafonn and just decided
to do this podcast, and some hundreds of episodes later,
(07:24):
here we are, and of course I'm going to do
the Oklahoma Sooners for mister Mike Ritter. Now I consider
these guys friends. I consider these guys brothers. After this episode,
I don't know, I might not get a text from
either one of these guys for a couple of days,
(07:44):
just because Michigan, yes, won the national title last year,
but had kind of a rocky year last year. I mean,
I'm pretty sure even the most optimistic Wolverines fans going
into twenty twenty four twenty twenty five said, hey, you
know that national championship is great, let's go back to
(08:07):
back kind of had a, like I said, a bumpy road,
you know, finished let's see here seven and five. Definitely
not what a lot of people were expecting, but that
happens sometimes to the reigning national champs. You don't see
many teams go back to back, you know. Georgia was,
you know, one of the only few that were in
(08:29):
recent memory, of course, but it's hard with that target
on your back and you know, losing as many players
as they lost. Of course they're head coach. A lot
of things happen in one short offseason that you can
go from being at the top of the mountain of
you know, Mount Everest, the mountain of college football, with
that ring and that trophy, and then you kind of tumble,
(08:51):
stumble fall to earth. You know, you're so high for
in jubulance and parades and so many things happen into
your program, and then the next year you're back to reality.
Now that's Michigan. Now Oklahoma, on the other hand, really rocky.
(09:11):
I mean, they've had some pretty head scratching years these
past couple of years. They finished six and seven last year.
That is nowhere near Oklahoma standards. Oklahoma is a blue blood,
absolutely them In Michigan some of the bluest of blue bloods.
They just get conference championships, they go to national championships,
(09:34):
they have rings, they have this and Heisman winners and
so on and so forth. But the Brent Vennables conversation
definitely has to be talked about that that leash is
pretty short. I think this year up in Norman, I
think that seat is pretty hot. To be perfect, gone
with you, it's very uncomfortable, you know, with your butt
(09:56):
getting scalded, especially at a big time program Oklahoma. Now,
on the other hand, with Michigan Sean Moore going into
his second year, of course he's gonna have his bumps
and bruises. But usually you'll see good coaches, you know,
they build their team. You know, these two teams don't
have problems with recruiting. They can go into the you know,
the transfer portal, pick chews who they want. You know,
(10:19):
more people knock on their door then they knock on
your door, so to speak. So let's go through their schedules,
and of course let's predict what these respective programs because
like I said, this show is no different than the
last couple I've done. Two teams kind of mirror images
(10:41):
of each other, kind of on the wrong side of
a bad twenty twenty four. But hey, with college football,
you can have a huge turnaround. Look at Indiana, look
at Arizona State, look at some of the great teams
from last year that just kind of rose from the
ashes like a phoenix. So we're gonna start with Michigan
(11:01):
of course, out of the Big Ten, like I said,
finished seven and five, losses to Texas, went up to
Washington and that national championship rematch and lost at the Huskies,
lost at Illinois. Definitely a team that I have my
(11:22):
eyes on, you know, in this offseason period going into
this season. Lost to Oregon, of course. I mean that's
a long list of teams that lost to Oregon last year,
including the national championship winning team up there in Ohio State,
went to Iowa, I mean Indiana. Sorry, I got my
eyes and ues all mixed up, but yeah, I went
(11:44):
up to Indiana, lost to those upstart Hoosiers. You know,
a team that I just talked about as well. Now
you're probably saying, man, that's a that's kind of a
bad year, right absolutely, But you know, a nice ending
year of their regular season, beating Ohio State for the
fourth or fifth straight time, getting themselves Bowl eligible, and
(12:07):
then beating Alabama in their bowl game. That's definitely traction.
You know, you want to see your team at the
end of the year, regardless if you only won six, seven,
eight games, win those last couple of games of the
season get you some traction going into the next year,
kind of get the hopes back up for you know,
(12:28):
Michigan faithful and disguise the limit, you know. But seeing
how I've already done Ohio State and I've already gotten
shipped for this from him double J big shout out
love you, homie. I did predict Ohio State to beat
these Michigan Wolverines finally get that you know, silver back
off their back right and beat Michigan for the first
(12:51):
time in a long time. And so the best year
Michigan can get is eleven and one. So let's go
through their schedule and see if they can improve on
that seven and five record that they had last year.
August thirtieth, of course, starts their season. I have a
University of New Mexico. I want to say that's what
it is. It just says U n MX could be
(13:13):
the University of Northery're in Mexico. I mean, heck, I
really don't know. It really doesn't matter, don't need to
really talk much about it. That's the big house. That's
Opening Day. Yes, we have seen bad things happen to
opening day teams, and Michigan has no exception. I don't
hate to bring it up double j But Appalachian State
(13:34):
comes to you know, to mind that shocking loss in
the big house. Anything can happen in college football. We've
all seen that, right, but this is different. You know
you're not going to lose to that team. August thirtieth,
that's a win. September sixth, here we go. This is
the other team that I'm talking about. Just hearing a
little bit after a breakdown. Michigan. They're going to Norman
(13:54):
to play the Oklahoma Sooners. It's already set. It's a
six thirty kick on ABC. That's how you know it's
a big game when it's already been picked up and
that's still months away. Tough man. I it's gonna be
a hard game to watch. I mean absolutely do not
(14:17):
like Michigan. I wouldn't say I don't like Oklahoma, but
I can honestly say I don't hate Oklahoma either. So
I'm just gonna say for the simple fact it's in Norman,
that's gonna be a raucous crowd. It's a night game.
(14:38):
It could be a huge, huge step for Brent Vinnables.
I think Brent Vnables needs to win more this year
than Searon Moore. So I'm gonna give oh you that win.
Sorry double j. But it's gonna be a good game regardless.
I'm not I would not be surprised that Michigan goes
into h Norman and gets that win. It's gonna be
(15:02):
a close game. I don't see it being a blowout
either way. Second game of the season. You're still trying
to get, you know, accustomed to big time football, seeing
how most of the time in week one, week zero
you're playing a cupcake. So could be a lot of penalties,
you know, those type of games. You always see it
early in the season. You look a little rusty. But
(15:25):
just for the simple fact, oh he plays at home,
I say they win by three. But I would not
be surprised if Michigan wins that game. But I got
to give the Wolverines that l September thirteenth, come back home,
play Central Michigan. You know it's a very little little
brother to a team like Michigan. The Wolverines are they
going to respect them absolutely. But with the loss of
(15:47):
the week before, you know, you lick your wounds. You say, ah, man,
you know, we barely lost to Oklahoma, but we're gonna
go out and we're gonna beat the chip awas I
do believe Central Michigan is. So that's a win right there.
September thirteenth, September twentieth conference season starts, You're going to Nebraska.
(16:08):
I got a question mark right there, just for a
simple fact that these two teams, it's gonna be very
nostalgic when I tuned into this game in Nebraska and Michigan.
Two teams just were powerhouses, have been powerhouses. Michigan of
course more lately. Absolutely, Nebraska could have a good year
(16:31):
as well. I mean, there's no telling. Matt Rules seems
to do good things in his third and fourth years,
so there's no telling. They got a pretty decent quarterback
down there in Nebraska. And it's at Nebraska. It's going
to have a nice good feel to it. But I
got the Wolverines, give me the wolver Rings to go
to Nebraska and get that first conference win. September twenty
seventh is their first buy. Not a bad buy seeing
(16:54):
how two out of their first four games are gonna
be tough ones. And who's to say Central Michigan doesn't
go out and try to beat up on big brother
New Mexico. If I'm if that's who they're playing Week one,
who's to say that game is tight as well, But
that's a good good place for a buy. October fourth,
come back, they start their conference home season. They welcome
(17:15):
into Badgers yet again, another question mark here, Luke Fickle
up there and in Wisconsin. Another guy that's going into
a second or third year. It has done great things
at Cincinnati, but it's at home, you know, in the
big house. Wisconsin coming to the big House. So I
(17:38):
say let's go with a win right there, hosting Wisconsin
the Badgers. Like I said, this could go either way
with the Big Ten, with so many of these conferences,
you really don't know about certain teams. They can take
huge steps forward and don't be surprised Wisconsin or Nebraska,
(17:58):
you know, is pretty decent this year. But give it
the benefit of the doubt to the Michigan wolver Range
right there. October fourth, October eleventh at USC here we go. Yeah,
kind of a rivalry, you know, two teams don't like
each other. Yet again another question mark here. USC is
another one of those teams. You know, Lincoln Riley kind
(18:19):
of on the hot seat. USC has kind of been
eh the past couple of years at USC though kind
of a cross country trip. But you know, give me
the dub. You know, I'll take the wolver Rines at
the Trojans because I can honestly say I absolutely hate
(18:41):
the Trojans just a little bit more than the Wolverenes.
So I got to give the win right there to Michigan.
October eighteenth, come home. Welcome in the Washington Huskies. I
kind of like that. I hope that this is a
long standing rivalry. Remember they played two years ago in
the National Championship. Michigan gets that ring beats those Huskies.
(19:04):
Last year, Washington hosts the Michigan Wolverines and gets to win.
So this is gonna be a kind of a back
and forth thing. So I'm going to give the Wolverines
that win with Washington coming into the Big House. Big
House is one of the hardest environments in all of
college football. There is no mistake about It is one
(19:26):
of the biggest college stadiums out there, very intimidating. It's
hard to go into the Big House and win. Just
ask the Ohio State buddays, right, So that's another win.
October twenty fifth, here we go rivalry game at Michigan State.
I got our, of course, for rivalry. More than likely
(19:47):
could be a revenge game. I'm pretty sure Michigan beat
Michigan State last year. D'Antonio is not coaching the Spartans anymore.
I haven't said anything good or nice about the Spartans
in years, so why change now. So Michigan gets that
win right there. November first, welcome in the Purdue boiler Makers.
(20:11):
Yet again. Another team I couldn't tell you. I know
that the boiler Makers. I couldn't tell you a player
on their team. I couldn't tell you much about the Boilermakers,
but I will say certain things happen in November and
night games. Big big teams come to their house. Sometimes
(20:31):
they upset, but they're playing in the big house. Give
me a dube. November eighth is their last by that's
a good bye. That's a tough little stretch right there
from their first buy Wisconsin at USC, hosting Washington, at
Michigan State and Purdue. There could be a couple losses. Absolutely.
(20:52):
I know I gave all the these wins to Michigan
in the past five weeks. But Wisconsin, USC and Washington
that is a tough little stretch, absolutely, So I wouldn't
be surprised if they lost one out of those five either,
So don't be surprised. But that's a tough, tough little
(21:12):
stretch right there in October, all right, November fifteenth, go
to Northwestern. Yet again, they're in the Purdue, They're in
the Michigan state category of the Nebraska category. Not too
sure about them. Could they upset? Absolutely crazy things happen.
I mean, it happens in Big Ten football, But Wisconsin, Wisconsin,
(21:37):
Michigan is riding a high there on a night's the
little wind streak and it continues right there. November twenty second,
at Maryland, I have a trap game. Next to this,
you're saying, CM a trap game at Maryland. Do you
know anything about Maryland? Nope? But it's the week after
(21:59):
that week after is that one game? It is called
the game for a reason. Sometimes you look a little forward,
you look a little past that team that you were playing,
and you sometimes slip up. Now is it gonna happen? Now?
(22:20):
I'm gonna say no, give me a dub right there.
And then, of course November twenty ninth, the you know,
Saturday after Thanksgiving, Ohio State comes to the Big House
and beat you guys, since I already did Ohio State. Now,
Double J gave me shit, of course, texting me after
(22:41):
the Ohio State episode I put out and he said,
ce M, you've been picking on Ohio State to beat
Michigan for years and every time you pick them, Michigan wins.
Now could that be an omen Could that be something
that is absolutely true? Oh? Yeah, oh completely. But I
(23:01):
just you can't hold a team down that long. I mean,
it's got to get broken at some point in time, right,
But like I said, I would not be surprised if
Michigan gets their fifth or sixth straight win over Ohio
State and send college football toppling and make people's head scratch. Now,
(23:24):
at this time, they are ten and one going into
that Ohio State game based on this schedule that I
just broke down for you guys, So hmm, man, that
could be a top five, top ten type matchup. But
of course, like I said, going with just this, remember
this is just for shits and giggles. Tough schedule, though
(23:47):
a little easier because you remember when they do these schedules,
you finish in the top you know, two or three
of your conference. You win your conference, your schedule gets harder,
and then when you finish, you know, a seven, five,
six and six type year, your schedule gets a little
bit easier. Now is it that much easier? You got
to throw in Oklahoma, you have to go to a
(24:09):
Nebraska to usc you host teams like Wisconsin Washington. Who's
to say Washington doesn't bounce back. I do believe that's
jet fish up there that took those Huskies, and they're
going into his second year. I do believe. So it
could be interesting year man, but it would be a
(24:29):
floor B nine and three. I think that's realistic. I
honestly think Michigan could lose one of those games that
they're not supposed to lose, you know, I e a
Michigan state heck, you never know about a Northwestern at
Maryland at Northwestern and then even that Ou game. So
(24:50):
I see a better year. I think eight and four
is a possibility as well, But I don't think anything
worse than that, And I think anything worse then eight
and four. Sharon Moore gets a little more pressure. Are
they gonna fire him after his second year of technically
winning seasons? I don't think so. Michigan's really it's it's
(25:14):
I'm not saying it's hard for them to fire a
guy on such a short, you know, resume, but I've
seen him hold on to coaches a little too long,
and I think Michigan is one of those teams that
they kind of go, all right, we'll give you one
more year, we'll give you on more year. And it
almost seems like it's too little, too late, But then again,
(25:37):
good things happen. Searan Moore is a hardball protege. So
ten and two, nine and three, we're gonna go with
ten and two just because. But nine and three is
very respectable as well, and I think Double j would
be happy with that after a seven and five year Yeah, sure,
losing only one conference game, that keeps them in the
(25:59):
conference championship. Talks and bouncing back, you know, from that
national championship two years ago. So ten and two is
on the books right there for Michigan. Big ups to
Double Jay. Hope you are doing well, my brother, and
you know I'm always around, you know, send your boy
a text. You know. I always love talking to the
(26:21):
football guys and even fans. I appreciate the outreach. And
you know, even if it's hate, it doesn't bother me.
There's no skin off my back. You gotta have thick
skin to put your voice out there and your opinions.
And am I gonna be wrong on seventy five percent
of these you know bullshit schedule breakdowns? Absolutely, But like
(26:43):
I said, we got to get talking about it, man,
we got to get the juices flowing. You're saying, see him,
it's July. You know it's so far away. It's not
as far away as you think. July is going to fly.
I promise ten and two Michigan w Over's big up
to Double j Thank you for being a football function
(27:04):
funky and official football function funky. I know he's got
a football function shirt. I hope he wears it proudly.
I know he is definitely a guy who promotes. I mean,
he wears his shirt out and if he gets asked
questions about it, he can say, hey, man, I was
on this show. I had a lot of guest appearances.
(27:24):
I had my own show. But I love those guys.
You know, he may not say I'm in love with
CMCM is the greatest in the world. Just for the
civil factors, I am a soft coorel Ohio State fan,
but our love for football is deeper, you know what
I'm saying. So love the guy to death. Like I said,
(27:45):
one of these days, I'd love to travel. Go up
to Michigan, you know, see the Big House, you know,
go to Penn State, you know, see my dude, Howard Poole, anybody,
and just really tour colle football. Man, Go and see
these great stadiums. Go catch a game at some of
these great places and soak up what I know. That
(28:09):
is Lubbock, you know, Texas Tech, you know tailgating, you
know things like that. See what goes on for you know,
their pregame festivities, you know things like that. It would
be awesome, you know, to get that opportunity to do
that one day. But big ups to Michigan. I hope
they have a good year. I think nine to three
is respectable. Absolutely. Oh sorry about that? All right? Man,
(28:36):
here we go. We are going to SEC country talking
about the Oklahoma Sooners. For that boy, Mike Ritter never
really heard his story about Oklahoma. Hopefully after this episode
comes out and he listens to it, how he became
(28:57):
a Oklahoma Sooner fan, you know, he lives up there
in Amorillo, Texas. You know, it's about one hundred and
eighteen miles north of where I am big Amarillo fan.
If there was one other town I could live in
besides Lubbock, it would be Amarillo. I have got Boo
Koo's a family up there. I got friends up there,
and of course I got guys like Mike Ridar KG
(29:21):
and that boy Terence Minfield. But I've never heard his story.
You know, has he was his dad a fan? You know,
sometimes you kind of get in the bloodline. You know,
if your dad was a fan of the Florida Gators,
nine times out of ten, you become a fan of
the Florida Gators. Or if you live close to there.
(29:43):
You never know. But I would love to hear his story.
I know he's a big Billy Bowman fan. Sent me
a nice picture of a drawing he won. He got
a Billy Bowman audographed Oklahoma Sooner, Minnie Helmet, super Dope.
I would love something like that one day. I do
get into contests like that as often as possible, But
(30:04):
I'm also one of those unlucky people, you know. I
go and buy a scratch off. I have to pay.
You know, I don't win nothing. It says pay five dollars.
That's just my kind of luck. That's why I don't
play lottery. I don't do that stuff more very often.
But I mean, if you don't play, you can't win, right.
But big ups to Oklahoma and the SEC. Yet again,
(30:26):
Oklahoma got a short end of the stick. Don't know
what Oklahoma did to get their schedule last year and
finishing six and seven, just a woeful year. Brent Vinnables
is back though, and their schedule this year it's not
that much better. I don't understand it. It's a very tough.
(30:49):
But let me go ahead and put this in right
here real quick. That l to Michigan, So Oklahoma's best
possible schedule, you know, breakdown prediction is ten and two.
But let's go through. Of course, last year, of course,
finishing six and seven, losing to teams like Tennessee, the
Red River rivalry to Texas, South Carolina definitely another team
(31:13):
you gotta keep your eyes on. In SEC country. You
had a great year last year, of course, losing to
Illinois in their bowl game. But I still think my
guys like Leonora's Sellers definitely a guy I'm gonna talk
about when it comes to Heisman talk. South Carolina is
definitely gonna be one of those teams that could really
mess some teams aspirations out. I know, Georgia runs that conference,
(31:34):
Texas is nipping at their heels. Teams like Tennessee. You know,
throw in a South Carolina. You gotta throw in teams
like Mississippi, even a MISSOI had a pretty good year
last year and that's who they lost to as well,
South Carolina, at Mississippi, at Missou and at LSU. That
(31:55):
SEC is rough. I mean it is the best or
second best conference easily in the conference. There are five, six,
seven teams in those respective conferences that you have to respect.
I mean they're all blue bloods. So, but you know,
(32:16):
two and six in the conference definitely a red flag.
You know, that's definitely something Brent Vinables and his team
are going to have to work out. It's a glaring,
glaring black eye to the Oklahoma Sooners going to and
six their first year in the SEC. But that Bama
win last year and blowout fashion to twenty four to three,
(32:38):
beat the breaks off Alabama last year. Lets me know, Okay,
that Oklahoma team has possibilities. This Oklahoma team can come
back to greatness. I saw that game, and I go, whoo.
I know that Oklahoma team more than I'd like to admit.
(32:59):
You know, of course, you know Oklahoma and Texas being
in the Big Twelve for all those years ran that conference.
You can honestly say that and been at games where
Oklahoma just drove us, you know, ruined our national title
hopes back in eight. I mean that was like a
(33:19):
forty nine to seven halftime score back in eight. I
fondly remember that. I still get PTSD over that. I
still have nightmares over that game. And Oklahoma's just one
of those teams man and great coaches, great players. Can
They bounced back from a six and seven year and
(33:40):
a and seven two and six conference records. So let's
go through their schedule, shall we. August thirtieth, Welcome in
Illinois State. Yeah, see it all the time, cupcakes. Opening game.
Don't need to talk much about it. That is a
dub September sixth, just talked about it. Welcomed in. Oh wait,
(34:03):
no I lied. Sorry, Sorry Mike, Sorry double Jake. You
got that win against Michigan, so I have to fix that. Sorry,
so best is eleven and one. Mike's probably yelling at
me right now, but yes, you know, beating Michigan at home.
And I did say I would not be surprised if
Michigan goes down to Norman and gets that win at
(34:25):
a tough home field advantage, but that home atmosphere is
going to be it's gonna be great. And I think
Oklahoma's gonna have a better year than they did last year.
So they beat Michigan September sixth, September thirteenth at Temple.
I've seen this every once in a while. I did
put a trap game next to this one as well.
It's kind of that same territory when you have a knockout,
(34:49):
drag out and nostalgic two heavyweights going up against each
other the week after you you're a little hurt, you're
a little banged up, heck you could be a little injured,
and you kind of limp into a game like Temple
going hey, we only need our be you know, average
game to beat a team like Temple. But hey, you
(35:10):
still win. But I'm going to say it closer than
the experts thinks. That's a trap game. I've got trap
game potential right there September thirteenth, but still get to
win at Temple September twentieth. Got a star next to
this This is conference season start. You welcome into Auburn,
you know, got a question mark next to this one.
Auburn's in that territory of the Nebraskas, of the Perdues,
(35:33):
the Michigan States, the Rutgers, the Marylands in the SEC.
Can they be good? Though? Absolutely? I still have memories
of Auburn, you know, the kick six Cam Newton National Championship.
The Oregon fans don't want to hear that conversation because
I've heard I had no Oregon fans and they still
(35:55):
to this day talk about that game, how they were
robbed and this and that and boy bloody blah. Let
the past be the past, right, And I says a
guy who was just talking about Oklahoma raaming my Red
Raiders back in eight right, But welcome in Auburn, Like
I said, is who knows? It's a coin flip? I
really don't know. But let's be nice to mister Ritter
(36:20):
and the Oklahoma Sooners. Just give him a win. Hosting
Auburn September twentieth September twenty seventh, bye, just like the
Michigan Wolverines. There bye is week five goodbye. You know
Auburn Michigan sprinkled in there with the two cupcakes quote
unquote and week one in week three with Illinois State
(36:41):
and at Temple respectively. Good time for a bye October fourth,
non conference game. You know, you kind of have to
do it sometimes your schedule, you kind of have to
do it. Welcome in Kent State. Is that the Golden Flashes.
I'm not real sure I'm gonna I'm gonna go with it,
say Golden Flashes. That's a when you know, two weeks
(37:01):
to prepare for Kent State, and oh my goodness, if
they were to lose to Kent State after a bye,
Brent Vinnables is gone. Brent Vinables is gone. October fourth,
that night, October fifth the morning. And Mike, I hope
you are nodding along because you could see it. You
(37:23):
don't lose a game like that after a bye. You
should beat a team like Alabama after a bye, beat
a team like Texas after a bye. Right, But yeah,
that's a win. Kent State October fourth, October eleventh, Here
we go. That's usually always one of the first weekends
in October. That's that Red River rivalry, one of the
best college football rivalries, played down in Cotton Bowl. You know,
(37:47):
it's a fifty to fifty stadium. One side is Crimson
and cream, the other side is of course for orange
and white. But I did do the Texas Longhorns and
I said they beat Oklahoma yet again. That is in
l right there. You as hard as it is for
(38:08):
me to admit it, Texas is going to be one
of the best teams in the Southeastern Conference and possibly
in the country this year. Now I hope I'm wrong, absolutely.
I hope the floor falls out from underneath the Texas
long Ones and they have a six and seven year
or a seven and five year like these two teams
(38:30):
did last year, respectively. But they're the better team on paper.
That could be the nail in Brettvinnible's coffin right there.
But you know that's still a loss. I would love
to see a close game. I hate seeing Red River
ribverries and blowouts, and I'm seeing it both ways. But
(38:50):
it seems like lately Texas has a leg up on
Oklahoma and it doesn't change here. So October eleventh. Texas
beats OU and the Red River rivalry. October eighteenth, too,
we go at South Carolina, tough place to play. I
think that's a team has a lot of momentum going
(39:11):
into this year. I think they have a Heisman contender.
Illinois Sellers did great things South Carolina did, but that
is a dub right there for the Sooners just because
of the week before. Brent Vinables is a good enough
coach to not have consecutive losses. Now, if I was
(39:34):
to look at their schedule last year, like write and paper,
I have who they lost to. I don't have win
they lost. If there was a couple of weeks where
they lost a few games in a row, I'm not
sure so. But that Texas loss, man, they hit the wait,
it's a little harder, they study a little bit better.
Go to South Carolina, a tough place to play, but
(39:56):
I think Oklahoma can get that win there. October eighteenth,
eat that South Carolina. October twenty fifth, Welcome in Ole,
Miss gott An r. Next to this, I got the
revenge game right here. I do not like Rane Kiffin.
I think he's overrated. Is he a good coach? Yeah?
(40:18):
Is Brent Vinnible is a good coach. I say, yeah,
A lot of people think Lane Kiffin is a great coach,
and show me receipts. Has he, you know, won an
SEC championship? I don't think so. I think his best
days were when he was under somebody. Yes, they've had
some good wins the past couple of years, but it
(40:38):
almost seems like they can't get out of their own way.
Give me the Sooners welcoming in Ole, miss too. By
the way, So October twenty fifth, that's a win right there.
Remember first at Tennessee. Yeah, I got a start next
to this game. Yeah, I got an R next to
this game for revenge yet again, another team that beat
(41:00):
these Oklahoma Sooners. M man, that's tough at Tennessee. Uh
could they? I Man, that's rough, man, that is that
is rough. I mean this this little section that we're
(41:20):
getting into all of November. Oh man, that's that's that's this.
This schedule is nasty. This schedule is nasty. M m
m m m. You know what, I think Oklahoma gets
a win this year that they're really not supposed to.
(41:41):
I think Tennessee, ye on paper, is going to be
better at Tennessee though, give me, oh yeah, give me
the Sooners not seeing it confidently. Yeah, absolutely could see
Tennessee beating Oklahoma, but I think the revenge factor for
Oklahoma and the backs against the wall mentality, let's play
(42:03):
you know four Brent Vnables. We don't want a new coach.
But then again, maybe there's players that want a new
coach and they might bail out. You know who's to
say that they you know, losing to Texas at South
Carolina Ole Miss. They lose two out of those three
going into some of their toughest parts of the schedule,
(42:23):
and their inventables isn't there. So but like I said,
I'm gonna be nice. Remember this is for shits and giggles.
Is it gonna happen? Probably not. But at Tennessee November
first win for the Sooners, remember eighth, much needed by
They had five games since their last one, and four
(42:43):
out of those five could easily be losses Texas at
South Carolina hosting Ole Miss. At Tennessee they go four
and oh against that little section of their stupid hard
sec s. Heck, yeah, Oklahoma's on cloud nine, but hey,
(43:04):
we'll see November fifteenth, here we go at Bama. I
think that's another team. Yeah, had a down year in
Alabama standards. Man, that is rough. Rickety frack man, that's tough.
(43:28):
M yeah, I don't see it. Man, that's a ill.
This schedule, man, I don't know what Oklahoma had what
they did. Godly, this schedule is brutal. November fifteenth at Bama.
I'd love to see a win there though, But man,
(43:49):
this schedule, I man, this is nasty. All right. Here
we go November twenty second, welcome in, Miszoo. Got the
revenge factor here again yet again. Another team eat the
Oklahoma Sooners last year, an old Big twelve rivalry. I
remember talking about it last year. He's two teams have
met in multiple multiple Big twelve you know, championships, and
(44:15):
needless to say, Oklahoma's beating them all now. It sucks.
Their first year in the SEC. They go to Colombia
and lose to uh yeah, these Sooners go up to
Columbia and Missouri and lose to those Tigers. But you
know what, give me a dumb give me a dub
right there, Missouri. Oklahoma beats the Tigers at home too.
(44:37):
In November twenty second, they welcome in the Tigers. Here
we go. November twenty ninth, they welcome in another tiger
and it's the Bayou Bangles of the Whisley I don't
know state you know Vosity now, Brian Kelly, he's in
that category of Lane Kiffin. Not a fan of him.
(44:59):
He's the old school. He's up in that you know, sixties. Heck,
he might even be in his seventies. Yell cuss. Screen
might even choke a player every once in a while.
You never know, man, that's just nasty. Like I said
(45:20):
this this November is Yeah, but the bye at Tennessee
at Bama, Missoo and Lsu. I know people are probably saying,
Cem Miszoo. Really Missoo had a good year last year.
They were up there talking about them in the SEC
Conference Championship aspirations in about October. Now the Bayu begles
(45:43):
November twenty ninth. Yeah, hey guys, I do this live.
I don't have all this just wrote and ready to
go and just read it. Man, m L. I'm sorry, Mike,
(46:08):
as much as it hurts me, there could be so
many more pink L's on this. I mean that's a
nine and three year I mean you would take it.
I mean, if I said, Mike, I'm from the future,
would you take a questionable season, you know, I have
(46:29):
potential six and seven year again or a guaranteed nine
and three I would take it. I'd say sure. With
this schedule, this could be the straw that broke bren
Venables's back. This schedule is rough. Uh, you know the
Michigan Michigan. Who's to say, like I said, they bounce back.
(46:53):
Welcome in Auburn. I do believe that's Hugh Freeze going
into his third year going to Norman. You know, you
guys talk about the Red River rivalry at South Carolina, Ole,
miss at Tennessee, at Bama, hosting both Tigers in Missouri
and Louisiana State. This has this This schedule is scary.
(47:18):
And if they have a ninety three, ten and two year,
yeah yeah, book them to the College Football Playoff. With
a schedule this tough, I mean, maybe even upsetting a
Texas and the Red River rivalry. There's just no way
they win eleven or twelve games. And I'm sorry, Mike,
I'm being realistic, but I'm also being optimistic as well.
(47:43):
I consider myself an optimistic realist. I like to look
at the the good. But I'm also a realist where
I go. You know, this is nasty. Like I said,
I cannot say it enough. This schedule is just rough.
I could be a six and six year and I
hate to say it, it could be even worse than
(48:04):
six and six. Man, who's to say that? Kent State?
You know, hat Temple? You never know? Man, college football
is so unpredictable. Man, But I think bounce back here
for Oklahoma. I'm being optimistic. Man, I like it, but man,
(48:26):
this year could be bad. So nine and three, you know,
nothing to sneeze about, you know, is it a is?
It would be infuriating to a die hard Norman guy
that lives up there's probably gone to every home game
since he was five years old, that they only won
nine games this year. It's Oklahoma's one of those teams.
If you don't win at least ten, Yeah, they they're
(48:48):
calling for your head. And I hope he's gnaw and
yet again, that's that's just one of those programs. Man.
You got to win nine, ten, eleven games a year
or the faithful is not happy. So there we go, guys.
That was the Michigan Wolverines for my boy Double Ja
(49:09):
out of the Big Ten, and of course the Oklahoma
Sooners out of the Southeastern Conference for their second year
stint in the SEC. And like I said, woof that
schedule is just mean. And I wish the best for
both of these teams, since, of course I don't have
to play them so and I'm talking about my Red Raiders. Yeah,
(49:32):
you know, Ohio State has to play Michigan, YadA, YadA,
But we'll cross that bridge in November, all right, So
don't get too hung up on these projections because I
don't know. I really don't, man, It's just something fun,
like I said, to get the get the juices pumping.
They'll get you guys thinking about college football to where
(49:53):
you know you can, Hey, keep receipts for me. You
know you're up in state and you're like, you know
these guys Double Jy and Mike keep these receipts so
you can rub it in my faith. Later I'll say, sorry,
how are you know you overproduce? You know that'd be
even better. How are you say? Oh, man, see him,
(50:13):
you picked us to go nine and three, and we
win five and seven. You can go, oh damn, I
gotta take that nine and three to save my life.
But that's it. You know, this one's tough. Man. I'm sweating.
I am sweating right now because that's tough. Man, those
those two teams. Just for the love that I have
for those two guys in Double J and Mike that
(50:35):
it's tough to be hard, it's tough to be real,
it's tough to be honest and blunt sometimes, but man,
you gotta do it. Man, I'm not gonna predict my
Red Raiders to go twelve and Oh, I don't think
I've predicted anybody to go twelve and Oh is it
gonna happen? Sure, maybe one or two teams, but there's
one hundred and thirty one hundred and forty teams in
Division one, so anything can happen. But that was the
(50:57):
Michigan Wolverines and the Oakland Home as Sooners. Let's see
what I have here for you guys. Next week, we're
going into some teams. I know it's probably not gonna
be a real popular episode, but I feel I should
talk about these two teams first. Going back to Big
twelve Country, we're gonna talk about the Iowa state cyclones lost.
(51:21):
You know, just got drove by Arizona State in that
Big twelve championship. But going there, that deems you you know,
appropriate and necessary for me to talk about you next year,
to say, hey, can they go back to Dallas and
compete yet again for another you know, Big twelve championship.
(51:43):
Matt Campbell, great coach, you know, is doing great things
at all at Iowa State, got to talk about them.
Went eleven and three last year. I think that deems
appropriate as well to say, hey, look at that record,
can they do it again? And then we're going to
the ACC and talk about another darling that you know,
just came out of nowhere last year and the SMU
(52:06):
Mustangs went eleven and three as well. Two teams both
lost their conference championships. Of course, Iowa State to Arizona
State and these SMU Mustangs to the Clemson Tigers, the
big dogs in the ACC conference. Can they bounce back?
RT lastly going into his fourth or fifth year, SMU
(52:27):
is doing great things. You know, It's been a long
time since anybody's talked about the SMU Mustangs, right, So
why not start here? I got those two teams for
you guys. I do have my schedule. I've kind of
been working it out as I go and I get
a little bit of time. These are going to be
the pairings for at least the next four or five weeks.
(52:51):
No telling like when I'm going to drop them, but
I'm gonna do Oregon and Tennessee one episode. You know,
Oregon a quiet big ten championship last year. Definitely a
team getting slept on a little bit just because Ohio
State won the national championship. You don't see that very often.
(53:11):
You win your conference and then someone from your conference
goes and wins the national championship. Yeah, you don't see
that very much, especially since Oregon was one of the
only two teams to beat the Ohio State Buckeyes last year.
Got to talk about them, got to talk about the
Tennessee volunteers. You know who I gave l two you
(53:31):
know to these Oklahoma sooners. They just talked about then
they finished third in the SEC last year, very respectable.
There's there's good things brewing and volunteer land. Got to
talk about those two teams, Oregon and Tennessee. Gonna do Miami.
The U a team that went ten and three last year,
you know, set the acc on fire. Had you know,
the number one overall picking cam Ward in the in
(53:55):
the draft last year. Can they you know repeat, can
they go and do what they did last year yet again?
And that's the Miami Hurricanes. I have them paired with
the Colorado Buffaloes yet again, a team went nine and four, overproduced.
I remember breaking down their schedule last year, going, hey,
six and six, you know, seven and five. I don't
(54:15):
remember what I ended up producing for that schedule breakdown,
but they went nine and four. You know, Sheder and Dion,
all that good stuff. All that's kind of washed this year.
They were pretty much bringing new players in. You're not
going to see the Sanders brothers. You're not going to
see Travis Hunter, the Heisman winner. Can they you know,
(54:37):
continue to produce in the big twelve? That's Miami and Colorado.
I got those two blocked together as well. I got
Alabama with of course Kaitlin de Boor kind of a
lockluster year, and I have them paired with Boise State.
Those two teams are gonna be fun to break down
and also have. I'm gonna call this the dark Horse episode.
(55:00):
I think it's two teams that the spotlight is going
to be very bright on them. I think they should
win a lot of games. We're going back to the
Big Ten. We're going to talk about the Illinois Fighting
ALLIONI with Brett Bilama. If you say you can't pick
Ohio State, you can't pick Penn State or in Oregon
(55:23):
to win the Big Ten, I gotta I gotta take
the Illinois Fighting ALIONI I like what Brett Bielima's doing.
I like what they did in their bowl game, like
that could be a really good team next year as well.
And I have them blocked of course with my Texas
Tech Red Raiders. Big twelve wide open. Is Arizona State
(55:45):
going to repeat? Who knows? Who's to say TCU, Kansas State?
I'm talking about Iowa State next week. BYU is another one.
And who's to say, you know, Arizona can't come back
to you know, having a great year. The Big twelve
is gonna be so fun to watch this year, I hope.
(56:06):
I know it's not SEC football, I know it's not
Big ten football, but the Big twelve is gonna be
fun to watch because we're just gonna beat each other up.
And who's who's going to be that nine to three
ten and two team that's gonna get a spot in
the College Football Playoff. There might only be one, highest
would be two. Don't really see it. But I got
(56:26):
to talk about my Red Raiders. Number one transfer portal
class in all of college football through this summer, spent
a butt load of money to get players from great universities.
Our defense is being projected as a top ten defense
in the country. I don't like it. I don't like spotlight.
I don't like high expectations because every time I get
(56:49):
high expectations going into the offseason and seeing how a
team is built with returning players and you know, all
this great things that are happening here down in Love,
I can't get my expectations too high. But when you're
being talked about like Texas Tech is right now, it
is not fair to not talk about my Red Raiders.
(57:11):
So I have to do them justice and I have
to do buy Texas Tech Red Raiders. So that's gonna
be the next four episodes. They can kind of be.
You know, it's not necessarily in that order, but though
expect those teams at least through July so and we
still got August. Like I said, reach out to me.
If you're a case state fan. If you are a
(57:34):
Huskies fan, Wazoo big up to the PAC twelve. It's
not just Oregon State and Washington State anymore. Poach some
teams from the Mountain West. They brought in Boise State,
teams like Utah State, Fresno State. It's gonna be a
smaller conference, yeah, but they're trying to get back to
(57:55):
Power four levels so that we can be back to
Power five. Having a true PAC twelve. Now, is it
going to be a scary conference. Absolutely not. With teams
like the boy adding a team like Boise State, it
could make it interesting. I think Boise State kind of
getting the short end of the stick last year, not
getting a whole lot of love. I think that's why
(58:16):
Ashton Jinet he didn't win the Heisman. It's sometimes it's
not your numbers. Sometimes it's where you play, and you
know it's a popularity contest. So those are those next
teams for you guys, So be on the lookout for that.
But like I said, if you want to reach out
to me, I can always add teams. I still got
some August stuff to do, but that's July for you guys,
(58:38):
So be prepared and get ready for all the things
that are coming up on the college football function. I'm
gonna bid you Ado, I'm gonna give you that long
kiss good night. Thank you so much for listening. If
this is the first time you're listening, I appreciate it.
I know the Football Function crew appreciate it. Hopefully you're
listening to the stuff Mike Ritor's doing. He's doing his
(59:00):
mortal stuff. Won't be long before they start talking more
and more football. I'm excited to see. You know what
they have up their sleeves over there on the NFL side,
they do their thing. That is the cash crop. Everybody
knows that I'm just doing my thing over here with
little old college football. But this is my wheelhouse, baby.
(59:20):
You know this is what I love. I go to
sleep on a Friday night and I wake up early Sunday,
Saturday morning, and you know, if I ain't got to work,
it's football all day, baby. So shout out to all

doing this that it would reach, you know, all these countries,
and I greatly appreciate y'all, and please keep doing your thing.
(01:00:31):
I hope you're telling your friends, and you know, college
football is bigger than just the United States of America.
It's all over the country. We played in Dublin, We've
played all over the place. And college football is a

you know that was a different time, right But you know,
Independence Day is a great day, you know, you know,
(01:04:09):
be patriotic, love your country, all those good things. I
know it's the time that we need. Our country needs
to heal. Our country's a little you know, battered and
bruised right now. But this is a great time to say, Hey,
you know this is our independence day, so big ups.
You know, be be safe, take care of one another,
have a few, have some fireworks, have a hot dog,
(01:04:30):
you know, do whatever it is that you're gonna do.
But be safe. Go to parades, you know, fireworks shows. Heck,
even if you're just gonna stay in hey, watch the
movie Independence Day for all I care. Have fun, enjoy yourself.
I will see you guys in about a week with
another show. I am doing Iowa State and sm you
take care of one another. Big shout outs to the
(01:04:51):
football Function crew, mister Ritter. I hope he is not
too mad at me. Actually, he's probably gonna be like,
shit nine and three. I'll take it, blah blah, oh
take it, you know, of course, Mike, that's the dude.
You know. He texts me all the time we talk.
Sent me a nice text the other day. Just pretty
(01:05:12):
much inspiration because sometimes doing this is hard, you know,
finding the time, finding the energy, because I feel like
I want to, you know, put some emphasis, you know,
put some devotion, put some passion into what I do,
because I feel if you don't do anything with passion,
you do nothing with passion. Because that's that's all it is.
That's what separates us from the animals. Man an opposable thumb,
(01:05:35):
having a heart, having drive, having passion, having to strive
for greatness and doing it at everything you do, working out, work,
you know, cutting in your yard. If you're not striving
for greatness, you will not go anywhere. And just remember
to just savor the small things, don't look at the bad.
Be good people, Take care of one another because we
(01:05:57):
need love in this world more than we'll ever admit.
So big ups to him. I appreciate that as well.
I read it every single day. But it's not something
that I don't do already. Like I say, I am
like that twenty four seven. Go to bed tired every
single night. If I feel like I didn't accomplish what
I needed to accomplish that day, I beat myself up.
(01:06:21):
And that's the biggest thing about adversity, man, is if
you got to beat your own adversity before you can
beat any adversity that's placed on you. Because your hardest
critic is yourself. It's that man in the mirror. So
big ups to him. I appreciate him. Terrence Minifeld, I
hope things are all well with my big dog up
there in a Marylin. Of course. Andy Lafaughon where Andy
(01:06:42):
Lafon crawled gave me what I am now to walk.
You know, I'm tearing up thinking about it, just because
Oh I love the football function. Man. I love this shit,
and I hope you feel it. And at the end
of the show, you go, man, I like that. I'd
love to have a beer with that guy. Hey, I'd
love to have a beer with you too, So big shoutout,
(01:07:05):
Sandy Lafon, love you, cousin, my other cousin as well, Sean,
Matthew Darien, my uncle's rich, my stepdad and my other
uncle Drew, and Arthur and Marcy and so many people.
Bell Jojo, There's so many people out there. I appreciate
you guys so much, and I do it for y'all.
(01:07:27):
I really truly do it, and I do it for
the funk. He's like double j you know Howard Poole,
love him the death patron of the year. I love him.
I wish you'd reach out to me. I hope he's
doing okay. I know it's he's busy as hell right now.
This is this is barbecue season, so I hope he
is doing well. You know guys like KG, Big John,
djukuz Mo, I love that dude as well. Let's see
(01:07:50):
here Detroit, Kyle, of course, the Graham and Claire. I
know they're all doing their thing as well. So big
up to all those guys, and then Goose as well.
I know he'll be back for the upcoming football season
helping us out with whatever we need. And shout out
to the haters as well. Man, I do it for y'all.
I do it more for y'all because I hope you
get booty face when you listen to see him. But
(01:08:11):
you're still listening, baby, And if you're promoting this show
to spread hate, I appreciate that too, because there's no
such thing as bad publicity. Baby, So I'll take the
good with the bad. But I'm an optimistic realless right,
So y'all take care of one another. Happy say fourth
of July. I love you guys to death. I will
(01:08:34):
talk to you guys very soon. Know who you are,
know who you serve, know where you're going, and know
what to do when you get there. See him loves
you to death. Take care of one another. I love you,
God bless Reckle.
