Speaker 1 (00:05):
Mmm, Hello, Hello, Hello, how you going here?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
How you doing? What it do? Baby? By baby? You
know that banger for me? By now? Right? You know?
How is the intro the sound of the song the
to the college Football function? You know the voice by now?
At least I hope you do. And if you don't,
I am cordially introducing myself. I go by the name
of cm AKA because of Mike A k A. CM

(00:47):
funk Aka, Professor c m AKA, mister still your grandma.
Just call me the host that knows the most about
college football here on the College Football Function, the host,
Like I said, I go by the name of cm.
Nice to meet you. How we do and how we live?
And how is summer treating you? I feel summer has

(01:08):
officially started. I do believe last time we talked, summer
was kind of peeking through. You know, we were in
you know, preheat mode. Anybody out there that knows how
to cook, knows how to operate up and you understand
the term preheat. Texas is one of those states man.

(01:30):
It's I strongly suggest if you do you know or
want to or plan on coming to Texas, you know,
in the future, and you've never been. I strongly suggest
the months of October, yeah, you know, and some spring,

(01:52):
maybe a little bit of springtime, you know, March through
you know, maybe May. And there's not very many months
where it's tolerable. Now, me being a Texan and all,
you know, they some people out there are probably going, golly,
Texas sounds horrible. It's rough weather, especially where I live.

(02:14):
We Lubbock has been voted the most unpredictable weather town
in all of America. Before we get really really hot summers,
we've gotten really really bad winters with snow and ice,
we got tornadoes, we get floods. It's it's a different town.

(02:41):
I'll tell you that right now. But yeah, we're in
preheatode and it's official now. Like I said, it's at
three hundred and fifty and it's gonna be like that
for for a while now. I seriously think our summer
lasts until the month of October. I mean all September,
it seems it's still hot, and sometimes even October is

(03:05):
still pretty warm. Usually by Halloween it starts cooling off.
You know. Usually we really don't get that many months
of fall. It seems like we get five or six
months of summer and two months of fall, to be
perfectly honest with you. But we're in the thick of it,
you know, here pretty soon we're a smack dab in
the middle of summer. But you know that's the that's

(03:28):
the bad side, and that's only if you don't like summer.
This is a we're in sports purgatory also right now.
We just had the MLB All Star Game. There's no
four main sports being today and tomorrow. And you know,
I'm recording on a Wednesday, by the way, that is

(03:49):
the sixteenth that you believe. And yeah, there's no baseball,
there's no you know, NBA, there's you know, of course
no football. You know, it's it's kind of sad, you know,
but it is the summer. But we are here in
off season mode. You know, I'm giving you something to
look forward to. And this is the thirteenth and fourteenth

(04:10):
teams that I'm about to do. You know, I've been
doing this for a good long while now, a little
over a month and a half maybe give or take.
This one is it's a little spicier, I would say
than the last one. You know, if you're an Iowa
State fan or an SMU fan, you're probably saying that's
kind of it's kind of rude. CM, you know that

(04:34):
those two teams aren't really spicy. I'll ask you this question.
If Iowa State plays SMU tomorrow in a National Championship game,
how many people would watch it or how many people
would go heck y, I cannot wait to watch the
Cyclones and the Mustangs. Right, it doesn't have that aura.

(04:59):
It doesn't have have that you know clouts. You know,
I know a lot of people, there's a lot of
fans out there if that's NDU that are of my age,
maybe even older in the fifties and sixties even, and
they'll say, yeah, SMU is a great program back in
the day. I mean, yeah, they really were. But it's
what they did off the field that really had them.

(05:21):
You know, black balls, you know, in black Flags for
so many years, and it took them so many years
to get back to prominence. And here they are in
Iowa State's kind of the same way. Not a real
sexy team, not a big name, but they just seem
to get things done. Now. These two teams, if they
were to play in a National Championship tomorrow, it would

(05:44):
be multi millions upon millions watch this game. Of course,
I'm talking about a Big Ten representative, and it's a
big boy. Is the Oregon Ducks quack quack first year
in the Big Ten last year and they go out
and not only performed, they overperform and they win their conference.

(06:07):
They went out and pulled in Arizona State, went out
and said, hey, hey, y'all, thank you for letting me
join your conference, like I am so appreciative, and then
turn around and win it the first year. You know,
it's kind of it stems the old Big Ten, you know,
even Ohio States and the Michigan's of the world, Penn
State as well. Going dang, Oregon came in year one

(06:30):
and won the conference. And it's the same way with me.
I feel kind of bitter about the Arizona State Conference
championship win for them that they had this year. That
dang they won it their first year and you know,
Texas Tech's never even been It's crazy to think, right,
but yeah, Oregon Ducks. I could go on for days.

(06:52):
I could have a whole show about the Oregon Ducks,
to be perfectly honest with you, great coach Dan Lanning,
you know, the outfit thing, the Phil Knight, the Nike thing.
There's a lot of good things for Oregon. You know,
I can honestly say I played college football games and

(07:13):
played with Oregon just to do the uniforms, just to
you know, go through fifteen different helmets, twenty five different jerseys,
you know, twenty different pants and thirty different cleats. You
know what I'm saying. It's cool, but that that's where
the cool. That's where all the pats in the back end.

(07:35):
Yes you had a great year, Yes you won the
Big ten, When are you going to perform? They're that
that that player, they're that. They're hard to describe, right
Oregon is you know, done enough, done a lot, But
have they ever done at the biggest stage? Right? You know?

(07:57):
Have they hoisted up a trophy? You know famous college
game day sign? You know somebody was holding up once.
It's like five thousand different you know, uniform things you
can do and zero national championships. It's a stigma. You know.

(08:19):
It's if I'm talking about it, that means it's definitely relevant.
Not gonna bash you. It is what it is. Still
an important team, Like I said, one of the old
teams to be at Ohiose State last year won their conference,
A great year. Here we are again. Can Oregon ever
get over that home? You know, you're you're a contender

(08:43):
every year, but are you ever going to get up
on that stage you know and take what yours? Dan
Lennings do anything. I'm not gonna talk ill of Oregon.
Absolutely not another team I'm talking about going, of course
into the SEC South. We're talking about a team that
quietly had a really good year, finished third in their conference,

(09:06):
right behind, of course Texas and Georgia. And that's the
Tennessee volunteers. You know, Josh Hipel doing his thing. If
the name Josh Hypel rings any bells, it's because he
used to be a quarterback back in the day. Have
overperformed the last couple of years. Definitely a guy not

(09:27):
on the hot seat, especially with Oregon and Dan Lanning.
These two teams have a lot of cloud. You know,
Tennessee does have national championships, you know, have big wins,
are a well respected program in the SEC. You have
to fear them, you have to respect them. Just because

(09:49):
it's not Georgia, it's not Bama, it's not Texas. Tennessee
usually has something to say every single year, and last
year was no different. Like I said, I got to
talk about these two teams. I think these two teams
are locked together for a reason. Overperformed, went to the
college football Playoff, ultimately didn't get their goal that they

(10:13):
set out for themselves. Of course, you know, while in
the time like this last year, exactly this time last year,
it is your goal. You're going through off season mode,
you're working out, you're in the sun, and ultimately it's
to be at the national championship game, playing for a

(10:35):
national championship, a chance to hoist that trophy. That's what
the summers are for. That's what you know, if you
used to play football, you remember the summer. It was
the worst. You know, you were doing to a daze
and a couple you know, a month before the school
season started you started football and they would always tell

(10:55):
you don't wait until, you know, the month before the
first game to get into shape. You need to come
in to you know camp in shape. Uh. And it
was it was rough, it was tough, but you know,
ultimately that's what you're trying to do. You're trying to
get to that national championship, trying to win as many
games as possible. Two important teams like I said, it's

(11:18):
gonna be a doozy. We're gonna have a good time.
Let's start, of course with the Oregon Ducks out of
the Big Ten. Like I said, Dan Lanning, hell of
a coach, Hell of a coach. I definitely a coach
I would love to play for. I would put him
in top ten talks of coaching jobs in the NCAA
right now. Definitely guy I respect, younger coach, player, coach,

(11:44):
but also fiery as well. I could definitely relate to
a guy like Dan Lanning. They went thirteen and won
last year, you know, one thirteen straight, you know, one
all twelve of their regular season games, you know, even
beating you know, the national championship winning team in Ohio
State during the year one against Penn State in their

(12:09):
Big Ten championship game, and then go to the playoff
and of course lose to the Ohio State Buckeyes in
the College Football Playoff quarterfinal. Kind of that's a that's
a bad taste, you know, to have in your mouth
at the end of the year, that you won all
the games you could win and then you played a

(12:31):
team that you already beat and they beat you, and
then they go on and win the national championship. Ohio
State sat back and said, hey, yeah you can. You
can win your conferenceship. You know, you can win our conference,
my conference. I don't mind. I'm gonna win the national championship.
I mean, yes, conference titles are important, but ultimately you

(12:55):
can win one without the other. And that's Oregon Ducks,
and so of course the Ohio State book guys. Can
they have another year like they had last year? I
think so. I think Oregon's especially one of those teams
that they can knock on your door and you know
you'll turn that. They turn you down before you turn

(13:17):
them down. Mhm, sorry, I gotta be a little hydrated.
I've been a little dehydrated lately. It's summer. You know,
it happens. But Oregons can pick who they want and
turn down who they want. A lot of good things
about Oregon. They have some of the best facilities. You

(13:38):
got a guy like Phil Knight, the uniform combinations, bloody,
bloody blot. They're gonna be a good team, damn there
every year you can almost you know, count on it.
But let's go through their seaton their schedule, shall we?
And must I say it's it's an easier schedule, not
a whole lot of meat on this bone. They do

(14:02):
not play Ohio State this year, and they do not
play the Michigan Wolf Range this year. So interesting, right,
But since I've already done Penn State, the best Oregon
can finish off with this year is eleven and one.
Because September twenty seventh, Oregon takes that trip to Penn State.

(14:26):
It's probably gonna be a wide out game. It's going
to be a game day, college game day atmosphere, maybe
even game Day is going to be there. You never know,
but I did predict Oregon to go to Penn State
and lose. It's just that revenge factor. You know, they
beat Penn State in the Big Ten Championship, and Penn
State's you know, they've got Oregon on the brain. To

(14:50):
be perfectly honest with you, they want to play Oregon
and they want to beat Oregon. That's the game that
they have, you know, circled on their schedule. I guarantee it.
So eleven and one is the best Oregon can do.
So let's go through their schedule. August thirtieth, Montana State.
Nothing much to say about that, No need to talk

(15:14):
about it. That's a halftime game. You see it a
lot with some of these schedules I've done. This is
the thirteenth and fourteenth team. You get a cream puff
every once in a while. Yeah, there's going to be
some great ones. You got LSU Clemson week one, you
got far mcgeddon week zero, Texas Ohio State. Yeah, there's

(15:34):
gonna be those games. But for nine out of the
other ten teams, you're playing the Montana States and Eastern
Washington's and the Northeastern Western State ant Eaters. Bloody, bloody block.
That's a when Montana State comes into the Odston Stadium

(15:55):
and loses to the Ducks. September sixth, Welcome in Oklahoma State.
Not the scariest Big Twelve team, to be perfectly honest
with you. A head scratching year for Mike Gundy and
the Oklahoma State Cowboys. I do believe they finished dead
last in the Big Twelve last year. Only won like

(16:16):
two conference games. I think maybe even one. I'm not sure.
Had a woeful, woeful year, just very out of the
blue for a guy like Mike Gundy, a guy that
wins nine ten games a year and contents damn near
every year in the Big Twelve. You know, he's been
coaching you know, down in still Water for well well

(16:37):
over fifteen years. I would say probably closer to twenty
if I had to guess. But Oklahoma State goes to
Oregon and that's a win. I mean, come on, now,
sure can Oklahoma State upset Oregon? Absolutely? I do have
a trap game next to it, just because it's going
to be a step up in weight class from week one,

(16:58):
you know, playing Montana State. Absolutely, Oklahoma State is definitely
going to be better than Montana State. But too much
home crowd, you know, just too much for the Oklahoma
State Cowboys to get over, to be perfectly honest with you,
to get to win. So that is two and oh
to start the year. For Oregon. September thirteenth is their

(17:20):
conference opener. Head to Northwestern. Now put a tea next
to this one as well. That's a long trip. Remember,
teams like USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington, all new members
of the Big Ten, are all on the west coast

(17:41):
of the country. A lot of the teams in the
Big Ten are in the north eastern area of America,
so those cross country trips are going to be interesting.
They always are going to be interesting, have a lot
behind them. Though some people will say, oh it doesn't matter,

(18:02):
they'll they'll, they'll figure out a way. Your body is
not meant to go that fast, you know, that quick
across three time zones. You know what I'm saying, Like
it take It takes a lot out of your body.
I don't care if they travel Thursday and it's a
Saturday and night game that Friday, you're gonna be jetlagged

(18:25):
half of that. That next day, you know you're you're
not gonna feel very good. And you missed up time
on working out, missing out time on this, missing out
time on that could be a could be a very
bad situation right there. But I think Oregon's B squad
could walk out and beat a team like Northwestern. I'm

(18:47):
not bashing the Northwestern who are they Wildcats? I want
to say Wildcats. I'm not sure. I'm not bashing them
at all. It's just Oregon's a better team. Yeah, you're
gonna have the home field, it's gonna be a big game,
you're gonna sell out, it's gonna be a Rockets place.
But Oregon's just too good to lose to a team
like Northwestern. I'm sorry, September twentieth, good game right here.

(19:12):
I am disappointed that it's not at the end of
the year. I wish they would do that, but I
think with conference, you know, these two teams being in
different conferences, it kind of hurts to not play the
last week of the season, but I get it. You know,
one's in the Pac twelve and one, of course is

(19:32):
these Oregon Ducks, and that's their Civil War brothers, the
Oregon State Beavers. Interesting, it's definitely in my top fifteen rivalries.
Hated rivalry, but a little one sided. It seems like
the last probably fifteen to twenty years, Oregon State will
real one off every once in a while, but it's

(19:54):
like every other five years, right, every other six years.
But if it was at Oregon State, I would I
would give Oregon the upset. But now that they don't
lose to Oregon State very often, I don't see it
changing at all. And you know, they're playing at home,
so that's three out of the first four games they're

(20:17):
playing at home. So that's a good win against their
hated rivals, the Civil War the Oregon State Beavers. September
twenty seventh, take a road trip to Penn State. Like
I said, I've already done that. I think they're these
two those two teams are I have their if I

(20:37):
had their their rosters right in front of me, right,
I have the coaches right in front of me. They're
pretty evenly matched, right, two great coaches. They're going to
have some of the best players in the country on
respective sides. It's a coin flip. But just because it's
at Penn State, I'm going to give the ninty Lions

(20:58):
yepset and some people will probably say it's not really
going to be an upset. Penn State will probably be favored. Yes,
you're probably right, but it's a huge game. Oregon goes
to Penn State and loses, though I've already done Penn State,
so I have to give the Oregon Ducks the loss.
September twenty seventh, like I said, still four and one
have their whole season in front of him. October fourth

(21:22):
is their first by not a bad place for a
buye in week six, So especially after a loss the
week before at Penn State, it's gonna it's a grueling game.
It's gonna take a lot out of them. That week
off is gonna help. And this is why October eleventh,
welcome in Indiana. I've already done Indiana as well, and

(21:45):
the Oregon Ducks beat Indiana, so two weeks to prepare Indiana.
I don't think has the season like they had last year.
I you know, Oregon on one hand, I got Indiana
and the other win, which one do I think is
going to have a better year this year. I gotta
go with the team that's doing it more often. Yes,

(22:07):
Indiana has all the opportunity to do it again, but
I'm going with the team that has a track record,
and that's Oregon. So that's a when October eleventh they
welcome in the Indiana Hoosiers, that's ought to be a
good game. October eleventh, October eighteenth at Rutgers put a
trap game next to this. You know two other last

(22:31):
three weeks have been tough games at Penn Steink and
with Indiana at Rutgers. Could be that little area you
kind of overlook a team like Rutgers. You kind of
overlook a team like Boston College, a Northwestern, you know,
a Syracuse so on and so forth. You have to

(22:53):
be weary of teams like this and that trap zone
because it's going to happen. I don't believe anyone's going
to go undefeated this year. I was wrong about it
last year because I'm the team that I'm talking about
right now actually did go undefeated during the regular season.
But I still think they win closer than the experts.

(23:15):
Thing though, but that's got track being written all over
in October eighteenth at Rutgers. It's not because I think
Rutgers is going to contend with the penn States of
the world, the Ohio States, Michigans. I just think a
fluky game happens to everyone every year. You know, NIU,

(23:38):
Notre Dame comes to mind. It happens. You just kind
of don't you know, practice well that week, you don't
travel well, something, you know, your team gets food poisoning. Heck,
you never know. Anything can happen. But no one plays
twelve perfect games, and that's it. No nobody's perfect. So
don't be surprised if or can gets upset. You know,

(24:01):
it is what it is. October twenty fifth, Welcome in Wisconsin. Yeah,
I got a question mark next to this one. Could
be a good game, could be a snoozer. I don't know.
At Wisconsin I would give Wisconsin a better shot, to
be perfectly honest with you, but it's at home, you know,

(24:21):
kind of a cupcake. The week before definitely has a
track game potential as well, just because of the Rutgers.
You know, Rutgers is down here and Wisconsin's up there
at Wisconsin in there as the fifth or fourth or
fifth best team in the Big Ten right now, they're
they're rare, sleeping giant. I think Luke Fickle is a

(24:44):
great coach, and it's only a matter of time for
Wisconsin to be perfectly honest with you, to get back
into the limelight. So we'll see, you know, But I
got to give the team that, like I said, has
a better track record playing at home. Oregon beat Wisconsin.
November one is their last bye since week six. So

(25:06):
this week ten, seven, eight nine, you know, not the
hardest schedule. Indiana and Washington, Indiana and Wisconsin. Pardon me,
who's to say they're going to be good this year?
We just don't know. But still a goodbye, not bad
Week ten November first, remember eighth, take a road trip

(25:27):
to Iowa. That's going to be tough. Iowa is just
one of those teams I've talked highly of Iowa for
a long time. I'm a big Kirk Farrance fan. I
love the Kinnick wave, I love the Hawkeye wave, whatever
you want to call it. I love that that team

(25:48):
just gives people fits. They could welcome in the number
one offense in all of college football and they would
only score fourteen points. Frustrate you. Teams like Iowa frustrate
you because they will they take away what you're good
at and they'll say, Okay, we're not going to let

(26:08):
you score fifty two points on us. We're not going
to let you throw the ball for four hundred yards
on us. You're going to it's going to be struggle.
This is going to be rough. And Iowa just does
that to teams. So I'll be surprised if this is
an upset. I do have it here. But like I said,

(26:29):
give me the team got a better track record. I
would love to. I'd love to give Iowa that upset,
but I can't. I just think the Ducks have a
lot to prove this year. November eight at Iowa gave
him a win, But man, I would not be surprised
to see the Cyclones upset Oregon. That's a big, big game. Oh,

(26:51):
I know Oregon's played at some tough places. Something about
Kinnick Stadium that it's gonna be a welcome to Big
ten moment for definitely the Oregon Ducks right there. So
that's a win either way. Friday, November fourteenth. Welcome in
Minnesota the Golden Gophers. Yeah, question Mark there as well.

(27:16):
Don't know much about them. Yeah, Spec is his name? Spec?
I want to say his name is Fleck, PJ. Fleck.
There we go, off the top of my head. Yeah,
a team that could be a thorn in your side. Sure,
but it's not at Minnesota, so Minnesota's got to go
to Oregon. So yeah, give me the Ducks over Minnesota. Friday,

(27:41):
November fourteenth, November twenty second. This is their last home
game of the season, and it's a pretty good one.
I think you got USC coming into town. Yeah, not
a bad trek for USC to go up to Oregon.
It's not real far, you know, travel for the Trojans.

(28:02):
But I don't know about the Trojans. Yeah, sure, I'm
sure they have a lot of four and five star
guys on their team. A really good coach in Lincoln Riley,
but I think his lease is sure. You know in La.
I think La is one of those towns that you
need to win or you're gone. And I think if

(28:26):
USC has the type of year that they had last year, again,
I wouldn't be surprised if they were to let Lincoln
Riley go. But that being said, USC going to Oregon.
Give me the team that's been doing better lately, give
me the Ducks ECPs. Can us go up there and

(28:49):
beat beat Oregon? Absolutely absolutely, they can just show me.
Like I said, this is a USC team that could
be you know, ten and one, this opportunity to be
honest or ten and oh you never know, or they
could be two an eight at this junction of the
year and Lincoln Rally's already gone. You know, there is

(29:12):
so much unpredictability and unsure ensuredness in college football to say,
with all my powers, not even saying powers, but looking
into the future, to say, hey, I have no idea
what the heck I'm doing or if I'm going to
get any of this right. You never know, right, but

(29:33):
I'm going to safely say Oregon beachs USC November twenty second,
last game of the year, November twenty nine, take a
road trip to Washington to play the Huskies. Jedfish, I
want to say, is the head coach of the Washington Huskies. Yeah,

(29:57):
another question mark. They could be usc they could be Indiana,
UPenn State up their team, and maybe even a Washington
I mean Wisconsin. I always get Washington and Wisconsin mixed up. Yeah,
it's just what have you done for me? Lately? This
has kind of become a rivalry game with the last

(30:21):
couple of years with Washington kind of having Oregon's number.
I think that's still in the back of Oregon's mind
that you know that one year with Michael Panax and
all those great players and you know, making the National
Championship Game that year. They went to an O against
Oregon that year. So I think Oregon's gonna get their
revenge at Husky Stadium. But I do have trap game

(30:44):
next to us right here at Washington. You know, at
Husky Stadium, it's a hard place to play last game
of the season. Who's to say Washington is having a
good year up to that point. Love to knock off
one of their rivals. I know Washington State is primarily
Washington's bribal, but that's a nice new rivalry over the

(31:07):
past couple of years in Oregon and Washington. For sure,
it's picked up a lot of heat. I should say
it's gotten a lot juicier. So looks like eleven and
one not the toughest schedule. Like I said, I gave
him the loss at Penn State. I think Oregon could
walk into Ntney Stadium, you know, Beaver Stadium, Happy Valley

(31:28):
and beat Penn State. Absolutely, but there's opportunities for hiccups.
Who's to say the Civil War Oregon State gets the
leg up on their big brother Welcoming in a question
mark Oklahoma State, Indiana. Can Indiana be good like they

(31:49):
were last year? Welcome in guys like Wisconsin, Minnesota, USC
taking road trips to Rutgers in Iowa. You know, interesting,
interesting schedule. I heard it's soft. I don't really see
it real soft. To be honest, there's there I see

(32:12):
red flags with this schedule. I absolutely they're playing some
good teams at Iowa, I mean right there. Absolutely. At
Washington a hard place to play. This isn't the easiest schedule.
I don't know why people think Oregon has an easy,
easy schedule this year. But eleven and one, I think
the floor ten and two. Yeah, there could be a hiccup,

(32:35):
like I said, that trap type style with Iowa at Rutgers,
or maybe even losing a home game to a really
good team like I said, like Indiana, Wisconsin, you know,
USC or Minnesota. You never know. But I gotta give
them eleven and one. That's a good year. Definitely puts
them back in the talk of conference championship. And then

(32:56):
of course a team like Oregon. You know, if there
are eleven in one at the end of the year,
they will probably get a spot in the College Football Playoff.
It is what it is. So let's move on. Let's
go to the Southeastern Conference, shall we SEC country so
to speak. Let's talk about the Tennessee volunteers. Josh hypel
lead had a good year. Ten and three. You're probably

(33:20):
saying that's a good year. Yeah, that's a good year
for Tennessee standards. It's an okay year, you know what
I'm saying. They expect ten eleven wins at teams like Tennessee,
teams like Oregon, teams like Georgia, teams like Texas. Tennessee
is no slouch either. Ten and three losses at Arkansas

(33:42):
at Georgia and then losing at Ohio State in the
College football Playoff first round. I remember that game, traveled
up to Buckeye Stadium and came out. They weren't wearing shirts, freezing,
and they were, you know, kind of showing off and

(34:03):
pretty much saying, oh, Nicole ain't nothing to us. You know,
we're not scared. And then they went in five minutes
later and put on sweaters. You know what I'm saying. Like,
it was hilarious and I haven't seen that big of
a beat down in a college fotball playoff game in
a while. Ohio State really drove the SEC and Tennessee

(34:26):
that day. It was ugly. But with the ten and
three record of those were their losses, they had some
good wins. You know. They went to OHU, you know,
went to Norman and got a win. That's a hard
place to play. Beat one of a good, good darling.
Last year in Florida, the Gators had a really promising year,

(34:47):
got that win against one of their rivals in Alabama,
hosted the the Alabama tiede Sorry god, I cannot get
that out. Went at the end of the year and
beat Vanderbilt at Vanderbilt definitely another team that had a
really good year last year. So you say that ten

(35:09):
and three, Oh who did they beat? They had some
really good wins, you know. And anytime you finished with
double digits and you're in the SEC, that's a good year.
Now here's my beef with the SEC. They only play
eight conference games while most other conferences play nine. You know,

(35:30):
they get four non conference games, and that's a chance
to start the year four to oh right, I know
SEC has that second to the last or third to
last week of the season. You get your last non
conference game, and it's a joke. I hate that how
the SEC kind of does what they want and then

(35:53):
expects them to get four or five spots and the
College Football playoff play that extra conference game. I want
to see the best three or four teams in the
SEC go to the playoffs, not talk about bringing five.
Oh sorry, all right, sorry about that. A nice little

(36:15):
coffee spell, and then I had to drink some of
my body armor. Yeah, shout out to body armory. Yeah,
let's let's talk about Tennessee in their schedule, right, I
have no idea what I was talking about. I was
going for a couple of minutes, but here I'm back.
Like I said, talking about Tennessee, good team, Josh Hipool

(36:36):
definitely can content. I gotta throw them in that heap.
And it's a pretty big heap in the SEC. You
got Georgia, you got Alabama, you got Texas, really good teams.
And this Tennessee team finished third, you know, right behind
Georgia and Texas. So it is Alabama gonna bounce back.

(36:57):
Alabama had a down year last year. You always gotta
to watch out for teams like old myths. You gotta
watch out for teams like that. Who's to say Oklahoma
can't bounce back to prominence. The SEC's super deep, super strong.
But until they play that nine game conference season, like

(37:18):
I really want, like every other conference does, I have
a little disdain for the SEC. I respect you. That
don't mean I hate you. You know that. I respect
the hell out of it. But let's play nine conference
games and let's see who comes out at the end.
And like I said, yeah, it's not I'm not getting

(37:39):
into it. I'm gonna I'm gonna leave that alone. Al Right, Well,
I guess thirtieth is their first game of the season.
It's it's not a cupcake at all. It's not Eastern
New Mexico. It's not Western Michigan. It's Syracuse. I think
that could be an interesting team. I think Syracuse is
in the AC. I think I always get Syracuse in

(38:02):
Illinois mixed up. I know Illinois is in the Big ten,
but I think Syracuse is in the ACC. Like I said,
I have no idea, but welcoming in Syracuse. Or this
could be a neutral site game. I really don't know yet.
It has a neutral site type feeling, you know, ACC
versus SEC. But you know, give me the team that

(38:25):
does better and all the track record is. Like I said,
these two teams are a lot alike them and not
I said, the team that I just talked about in
the Oregon Ducks. Give me the team that's got a
better track record. Sometimes give me the team and it's
got a better coach. Gave me the team that's playing
at home all better than Syracuse. So give me the
win for Tennessee Week one, August thirtieth, All right, September sixth,

(38:50):
here we go. Here's your cupcake. Right, if it's not
week one, it's week two, September sixth, Welcome in Eastern
Tennessee state. No idea, who Eastern Tennessee State is has
some juice to it. I guess, you know, Tennessee versus
Eastern Tennessee State. But ideally this is a game, Like

(39:12):
I said, Eastern Tennessee State comes in looking like Oliver Twist,
you know, all poor. You know, he's got the gloves
with the fingers cut out, and he's holding up a sign.
You know, we'll play football for money, and Tennessee's you know,
here's your million dollar check and your here's your ass
kicking on your way out. Sure could it be NIU

(39:36):
Notre Dame from last year? Hell yeah, who knows, But
I I don't see it anyway. Oh yeah, by the way,
before we really get in the schedule, sorry, I just
noticed this best Tennessee can do is eleven and one.
I should have started that. I'm sorry, I'm getting used
to it. My bad. Of course, they beat Georgia. This

(39:59):
team I'm about to talk about September thirteenth, they beat
Georgia since already did Georgia's schedule, and then ten week
ten November, first they welcome in ou and lose to
the Oklahoma Sooners. So I said, the best they can
do is eleven and one so let's go through the
rest of their schedule, shall we. I Gues said, September thirteenth,

(40:21):
Welcome in Georgia. I remember that Georgia schedule. Two cupcakes,
I do believe to start their year. I'm trying to
find my paper real quick. Yeah, Marshall and APSU to
start their year. And then week three you have to
turn around and go to fulsome field? Is it Fulsome? No, no, no,

(40:46):
somethime's not sounding right there, but Rocky Top. You got
to go to Tennessee and play the Tennessee Volunteers, a
team that's, you know, pretty close to you. I think
in talent, A lot of the SEC teams have pretty
much the same type of talent as the Georgia Bulldogs.
Good two good head coaches, but I gotta get Tennessee.
The upset wind there September thirteenth, September twentieth, another cupcake.

(41:10):
It's UAB. It's the Blazers. Not much to say about
but UAB. I don't know. Something tells me that there's
a famous quarterback that's coaching the UAB Blazers. I don't know.

(41:31):
I can't tell you anything, but it doesn't matter. The
UAB is going into Tennessee and that's that's a win
easily right there. September twenty seventh at Mississippi State the Bulldogs. Yeah,
thill them in the other pile of the SEC. Yeah,
you can safely say Georgia, Tennessee, Texas. You know, maybe

(41:54):
even Obama are going to contend for SEC titles. It
is what it is. Mississippi State, you're in this pile.
You're in that pile that I don't know, I really don't.
You're in that pile with Old miss You're in that
pile of Kentucky. You're in the pile with Arkansas. I
don't know much about you. Sure you can have a

(42:15):
good year, be great, but I don't know. I gotta
go with the team. It's better at Mississippi State. I
know it's a tougher place to play, but give me
a Tennessee volunteer. September twenty seventh at Mississippi State. October
fourth is their first bye week six. Not a bad
place for buye. I'm indifferent about it. I mean their

(42:40):
schedule has been pretty soft. Syracuse, Eastern Tennessee State, Yes,
a Georgia, but UAB and Mississippi State. If you don't
come out of that at least four and one. There's
shit brewing up there in the hill country in Tennessee.
So that's neither here nor there. But hey, you get

(43:00):
what you get and you don't go a fit. October eleventh,
Welcome in Arkansas. Yeah. Yeah, Like I said, I just
ballparked them. You know, I know there's a lot of
more other teams in the SEC, Vanderbilt as well. A
week to prepare for Arkansas. Arkansas comes into Tennessee. Yeah,

(43:20):
give me the win for the Tennessee volunteers right there.
Two weeks prepare for a team at Arkansas. Like I said,
don't know about much about them, so I gotta go
with the team I know more about. October eighteenth, Here
we go at Bama the third week, the third Saturday

(43:41):
in October. I think that's what this rivalry game is.
Two teams definitely don't like each other. Tennessee and Alabama
got that win last year Tennessee did over Obama, But
I think this Bama team is a little different. I
think here we go l Tennessee goes to Alabama and

(44:02):
loses to the Crimson Tide. Yeah, the board's got a
lot of pressure on them. It's kind of hard, you know,
to take over for a guy that Nick Saban and
then half the year that they did, you know, one
of the most head scratching losses in college football in
a while, you know, losing to Vanderbilt last year, just

(44:25):
having it just a year for Alabama standards, I mean,
actually a shitty year at Alabama standards. You know, you
lose more than two or three games in a year,
that's a shit year for that that fan base. And
you can honestly say it if you're if you're a
living Tuscaloosa or anywhere around and you're Alabama fan, it's
ten or eleven wins every year, or we're pissed. So

(44:49):
I think Alabama bens is back this year. So October eighteenth, Atabama.
That is a win for Alabama and a loss for Tennessee.
October twenty fifth, go to Kentucky, get right game. Sure
it has trap game opportunities, absolutely, but with the loss
the week before at Bama, you get right against a

(45:13):
team like Kentucky. I feel bad for a team like Kentucky,
especially if Alabama goes out and beats Tennessee by you know,
double digits. Kentucky is gonna get drove. It is what
it is. November first, O you welcome in, O you
and I gave OU that upset. I think OU is
gonna have a good year. I hope OU is gonna
have a good year. And it's not just for my

(45:35):
grid or I think they're going to play for bread
venables this year. I think OU is going to upset
a few people this year in Tennessee. Just how happens
to be on the other side of that fence. So
that's a loss right there. November one, Oklahoma, November eighth,
last by the year. Not a bad place for buy.
You know, Arkansas at Bama, at Kentucky at home and

(46:00):
can stow you and then you get your second and
last by not bad. You might need to lick your
wounds after a couple of games like that, especially in
the SEC. November fifteenth, get off that buy Welcome in
New Mexico State. I do believe that is the Aggies. Yeah,
no need to say anything about it. With the byeweight

(46:20):
before it's a halftime game. You go out and you
rest your team in the second half, let your second
stringers come in and score some touchdowns on a team
like Mexico State November twenty second. Take a road trip
to Florida to play the Gators. Yeah, upstart team. I

(46:41):
kind of wish they would play this game a little
earlier in this schedule. Maybe switch Georgia in Florida, because
I think Florida could have a really good year. I
think they had a great year last year, having the
hardest schedule in college football last year, being picked only
being a favorite in like two of their twelve games

(47:02):
last year, and they ended up winning six or seven
something like that. You're probably saying, you know, that's a
good year for Florida. Absolutely. If you're not, you know, favored,
and more than half of your game and more than
half your games and you go out and you overperform,
that is a good year. Billy Napier is a pretty
good coach. Uh man, here we go another l go

(47:27):
to Florida, go down to the swamp and lose to
the Florida Gators. November twenty second, November twenty ninth, last
game of the year. Welcome in Vanderbilt. Yeah, uh hey,
you want a Heisman sleeper? Diego pieve Right there, there's
a little morsel that's you know, a little sneak peek

(47:52):
into what's coming in the next couple of weeks when
I talk about Heisman. So that's a win, though, you
know what, the week before going to Florida and losing
to the Gators, you come home and you beat up
on a team like Vanderbilt. Sure it could be a
trap game. They could lose that one, but I don't know,
don't see it, don't see it. So ten and two,

(48:14):
it looks like that's a tough schedule, man, not the easiest.
You got Georgia, you have at Bama, you play Oklahoma
at Florida, there's the floor could fall out underneath Tennessee.
I think this is a potential. I hate to say it,

(48:34):
but seven, that could be floor. Seven and five. There's
some tough, tough games out here, man, And the SEC
is a big time question mark as well. So there's
no telling about you know, maybe even Vanderbilt at Kentucky.
You never know about Arkansas at Mississippi State, and those

(48:56):
are the question mark games. Those are going. You know
you are, you should be better than those teams, but
who's to say that they didn't they knock you off.
And then some really tough road games. Oh yeah, you
get Georgia at home, but you have to go to Bama.
You welcome in a team like oh you at Florida.
This is a tough. But if they go at least

(49:18):
ten and two, yes you kind of have to talk
about them, absolutely and talks for the College Football Playoff.
But three conference losses, I don't see him playing for
SEC title again. But like I said, it's you never know.
Ten and two is a good year. Maybe ninety three,

(49:38):
you never know. But that's neither here nor there. All right, guys,
that doesn't for me. For this week's episode of The
College Football Function, I did the Oregon out of the Oregon,
the Oregon Ducks out of the Big Ten and then
go on back to Southeastern Conference. The SEC Country talked
about the Tennessee Volunteers, the team that finished third place

(50:00):
last year, and then of course Oregon respectively winning the
Big Ten last year. Can they go out and overperform
like both these teams did and go back to the
College Football Playoffs. So, like I said, this is teams
thirteen and fourteen. I've got at least for SIT No,
I got about six teams still left. So I got

(50:22):
the month of July covered and we're running out of time.
I have July covered, I've got August coming up. I'm
working on stuff for August because I really only have
two offseason shows to do in August. So one of
them is going to be the College Football Playoff Predictions.
I'll take all these teams that I did and kind
of throw them all into a pot, see which twelve

(50:44):
teams are going to end up in the College Football Playoff,
and then predict the matchups, and then maybe predict again
another national championship, and then talk about Heisman. Probably gonna
be the same show, not real, real, sure yet how
I'm going to do it, And then next thing you know,
it's going to be Week zero preview show. And that's
remember August twentieth, I do believe is the start of

(51:07):
the season. I want to say, is it twenty twenty third? Sorry,
August twenty third as the start of the season. So yeah,
only a few short weeks in August and we are
getting right back into the game. The ball will be
flying in the air and I cannot wait. Like I said,
I do this for y'all. I do this because it's fun.
I really like looking into these schedules and going Ooh,

(51:30):
that's an interesting week right there. Ooh, that's an interesting game.
Oh that's got trap game potential. Oh there's a rivalry
game here, and it's fun to do. Like I said,
this is a really good thing to do. And also
get these teams in your mind and go, oh yeah,
here we go. Tennessee's playing Oh You November first. I

(51:51):
remember seeing him talking about this game and he predicted
Oh You to upset Tennessee. I don't want to just
be like, oh, I think this is the better team.
This team should win. You gotta throw upsets in there.
Every once in a while. College football is crazy. You're
gonna get some upsets. Teams are gonna lose. The teams
are not supposed to lose to It happens every single year.
But like I said, that's Oregon, that's Tennessee. We are

(52:15):
turning the page on that. I got my next show
for you guys. I have an acc member in the
Miami Hurricanes. The U Interesting team went ten and three
last year, started off the season nine and oh man

(52:35):
and then lost three of the last four games at
the end of the year and then losing to Iowa
State in the Pop Darts Bowl. Interesting team. As you know,
Carson Beck is now the starting quarterback for the Hurricanes.
Can they have a good year again? Another double digit

(52:56):
win year under Mario Cristobal. So I think that's a
interesting team. And I got them paired with someone out
of the Big twelve in the Colorado Buffaloes. Lumped these
two teams together. I think these two teams overperformed. I
think they have some really interesting coaches. Of course, Deon

(53:16):
Sanders for these Colorado Buffaloes ideally kind of the same
type of Year one games they weren't supposed to win
and that had some head scratching losses. And that's Colorado
as well. I mean going to Nebraska last year, they
remember that game Sder just looked horrible, Travis Hunter got

(53:38):
cooked a little bit. That was just a head scratching loss.
And then that BYU beat down in the Bowl last
year for Colorado has left two teams with sour tastes
in their mouth how their season ended. So lumped those
two teams together. I got the Miami Florida Hurricanes, you know,

(53:58):
the U out of the ACC and Colorado Buffalo's as
a Big twelve. I got those two teams coming for you. Guys.
Next week, We're gonna have fun with this all the
way up until August twenty third, when week Zeros goes
and we are getting into talking about real football and
not predictions. Right, all right, you guys have a good

(54:22):
rest of your summer. I were coming up on the
third week of July. Interesting, Yeah, good boys. Birthday is
next week, so by the time I'm either recording or
getting the show to MIC, it'll be about my birthday.
So you know, it's just another day to me, to
be honest. Yeah, when you get older, it's just hey,

(54:46):
happy birthday. Here's a shirt, Here is a gift card
to Taco Villa or Taco Bill. Hey, not knocking it.
I love both of those. Big shout out to those companies. Say,
if you want to throw a beefy layer your boy's way,
I will happily, you know, get that damn my gullet.

(55:07):
You know what I'm saying. The heck even any any
place to be honest with you. So yeah, so reach
out to your boy, you know, wish your boy happy birthday.
And it's on My Birthday's on the twenty second. And yeah,
I'm not even gonna say how old I am let's
just say I'm getting closer to forty every single year,
and I'm over the hump of thirty five. Let's just
say that. So you gots take care of one another.

(55:30):
You know, have a good summer. Go out, like I said,
keep going out and having fun. Go to the pool,
go to splash pads, go to barbecues, fire up the grill,
sit it in the canopy. Drink cold beer. Man. I
can't think of a better time to drink cold beer
than summer. Man, I send it to my canopy. Sometimes.
I got a little cooler next to me. I got,
you know, either my headphones or boom box. I'm listening

(55:52):
to music and I'm just chilling out, man, enjoying myself. Yeah,
I got the I got the deep woods on my
little table, you know, next to me. So whenever it
starts getting dark, I gotta spray myself because man, mosquitoes
love me. But yeah, enjoy yourself, take care of yourself.
You know, we're getting into the dog days of summer.

(56:13):
Quote unquote, you know MLB, the second half of baseball
is about to start. You got and that's about it,
you know, and football is on deck, and everybody knows
that's the cash cow. Everybody knows. That's what everybody loves
to watch. It's the shortest season though, between all the
four major you know sports, and it doesn't last as long.

(56:34):
But I like it like that because things are that
good should never last that long. So, you know, like
I said, we're in this together. It's a lot closer
than you think. I know, you think, Oh it's so
far away. It's so far away. Before you know it,
it'll be here, I promise, And just keep keep coming
along with me on this ride. And we're going to

(56:54):
talk about you know, six at least six more teams
that I have on the docket for you guys, and
then we're gonna talk you know, college football playoff and
talk about Heisman. So big shout outs to buy blacket

room on the football function for anybody and everybody. I
don't care if you're eight, I don't care if you're eighty. Yeah.
I curse a little bit every once in a while,
but I'm that's who I am. I'm not going to
change who I am because of somebody that's listening. I'm

(59:29):
not going to sugarcoat anything because somebody's age either as well.
They usually have an E next to my my episodes.
I say a F bomb every once in a while
or an S. You know, emoji everyone in a while.
I emotion. You know, you gotta have you got to

(59:50):
do everything with emotion, gotta do everything with pride, with passion,
and sometimes that that word sprinkles out, you know. I
like to use that garlic man you know, if you
ain't seasoning your food. You know that I use curse
words like seasonings. You know what I'm saying. And this
spices up the conversation, right, But you know, please tell

(01:00:12):
a friend. I mean, that's all I can do is
keep promoting us. There's plenty of room on this bandwagon,
and we're more the merrier. Come along for the ride.
It's gonna be a fun one. I'm going into my
third full year. I do believe of college football, so
here on the college football function. So please tell friends,

(01:00:32):
say this guy's crazy. Man, he's a rookie. You know,
I don't really know a whole high He's a jokester
and he don't know shit. You know, you say whatever
you want. But like I said, if I have haters,
it's all good. It doesn't bother me at all. I
do it more for the haters. I do it with
more pride for the haters and more passionate for the haters.

(01:00:53):
But if you love me, I love you to death,
you know. And that's all the football funkies you know
who you are at the kg's and the Kevin Watson's
and the Howard Pools and the DJ Couz Mos and
the John Koskos and the Detroit Isles. All you guys,
please continue doing what y'all are doing. I know I'm
not for everybody, but I do this because I love it.
I really truly do. And of course Mike Rittter Captain America,

(01:01:17):

I do it for those guys as well, everybody. I
love you guys to death, the Grim as well, and
Claire and guys like Goose and Double J, my cousins
seanld and Andy Lafon. So many people think because I
do it for y'all, I do it for all my
family members and friends and all you guys across the

(01:01:40):
ponds over there. You know, if there's an ocean between
me and you, I thank you for listening to this

a good quality podcast, all you gotta do is gorilla market. Man.
Go out and tell a friend and tell three people,
tell five people. If you hate it, till ten people.
That's neither here nor there. Like I said, you've got

(01:02:22):
to love my haters. Man, Love y'all to death. So
take care of one another. Know who you are, know
who you serve, Know where you're going, and know what
to do when you get there. See him loves you
to death. Take care of one another. Be good people,
have a great summer. Pray for Texas. Seem loves you.

Charlie is America's hardest working grassroots activist who has your inside scoop on the biggest news of the day and what's really going on behind the headlines. The founder of Turning Point USA and one of social media's most engaged personalities, Charlie is on the front lines of America’s culture war, mobilizing hundreds of thousands of students on over 3,500 college and high school campuses across the country, bringing you your daily dose of clarity in a sea of chaos all from his signature no-holds-barred, unapologetically conservative, freedom-loving point of view. You can also watch Charlie Kirk on Salem News Channel
