Speaker 1 (00:05):
M m m m. Hello, Hello, Hello, how you doing?
(00:30):
How you are doing? What you do? Baby? Believe you
know that bangor rube by now? You know that's the
intro to sound the song with the to the college
Football Function? You know the voice by now? At least
I hope you do, and if not, I am formally
introducing myself. I go by the name of CM. Nice
to meet you, AKA because of Mike A K A. C. M.
(00:53):
Funk AKA Mister Stellr Grandma Professor CM. Just call me
the host that knows the most about college football. That's
why I have my own show, Welcome to the College
Football Function. Guess what we made it, ladies and gentlemen.
We made it through the off season, the grunge, the
dog days of summer, the complete nothingness. Unless you are
(01:17):
a big WNBA fan MLB fan. The last couple of
months have been kind of rough. It's right after fourth
of July. Usually not a lot's going on, and it's
pretty sad, it's pretty scary. But you know, I do
these shows for at least for you guys, So they go.
(01:40):
I can get you a little bit closer and closer
and more and more excited and prepared as well. You know,
my nickname, one of my nicknames is Professor CM for
a reason because I'm trying to educate as well. I
know there's people who like college football, and I know
(02:01):
there's people that love college football, and then you have
people like me that are absolutely in love with college football.
And some people say, oh, I only watch NFL. And
then you have the other side of the coin. They
only watch college football because it seems like NFL gets
a little too you know, quote unquote woke, and you know,
(02:23):
too much about money and this and that, and they
you know, everybody has their reasons, excuses and opinions about
why what they like don't like about either which one.
I just like the variety of football when it comes
to college I like all the different conferences, the different
(02:43):
play styles, different coaches, environments, you know, student sections and
bands and there's so many good things that separates college
football from NFL. Yes, the NFL, it's going to be
the better game, play the best of the best play
the NFL. And I think that's why I like college
(03:04):
football because you know, one hundred and thirty, one hundred
and forty something teams, you know, seventy eighty I'm not
real sure roster spots on college you know, any given Saturday,
any given Friday, any given Sunday as well. You know,
even with with the NFL, anything can happen. But college
(03:24):
football is just a little bit harder to predict. I
guess I should say, you know, the week zero, week one,
week two slate of games, someone's gonna get upset one
of these top twenty five you know college or a
people you know, coaches poll. Somebody's gonna lose. You know,
that's not supposed to lose, and it happens every single year.
(03:48):
But like I said, we're done with the offseason mode.
I hope you enjoyed that. Big ups to Double J.
He sent me a voice note. You know, he's one
of the the guys that I talked to off of
you know, this podcast. I got to know him because
of this podcast. You know, he got to be on
(04:11):
this podcast because he reached out and you know, got
in touch with mine, got in touch with me. He's
the reason why I do Michigan, you know, schedule breakdowns
and stuff. And you know, he just told me he
appreciated me and he loved me, and he was excited
about this year, not just about you of him, you know,
(04:32):
instead of go blue, he's looking forward to different conferences
in different game, different team people to keep your eye on.
And that's exactly what I want. I understand. You could
be a Clemson Tigers fan and you're all about the ACC,
but there are other conferences out there, and you know
too widely, you know, have your eyes peripheral, not just
(04:57):
narrowed on a certain conference or something. It makes the
game better. And I feel like if I tell you
more about these conferences, tell you more about these teams
and stuff like that, you'll feel prepared. You'll won't be
so overwhelmed when it comes to the slate of games
(05:20):
and who to watch, what to watch, x like that.
But I enjoyed that. I appreciate that double J, you know,
as I do it for people like double J. Like
I said, I do it for the day once the Patreons,
if you contributed to the show, if you guest started
this on this show and you've reached out to me personally,
(05:42):
if we talk off of you know this, this this podcast,
I do it for you. And to do this it's
not easy, like I said, it's hard. It's finding time
to do your homework, it's finding time to you know,
the offseason stuff was the hardest stuff to do, and
you know the season is actually easy. You know. I
just write down a few get games here and there,
the ones I want to watch or have impact on
(06:04):
the game I should say, you know, potential upset, you know,
specials here and there, things like that, top twenty five matchups, YadA, YadA, YadA.
But doing the work is actually watching the games, and
that's what I love to do. I will sit in
front of my TV and watch college football from eleven
in the morning till early Sunday morning if I have to,
(06:26):
If I get the opportunity, I would do it happily
and enjoy myself. Good. Thank you so much, Double Jay.
Like I said, sometimes you need that little rejuvenation, that
little bit of pat on the back. Even though I
don't do this for a pat on the back, it's
nice to know that there's somebody out there that you know,
(06:49):
not necessarily I never knew, got to know because of this,
and he became a brother of mine, you know, a
good friend, and he looks forward to it. And then
I've change college football in his eyes, just with how
I talk and everything I've done for the game of
college football. So if I've touched one person, it's worth it,
(07:10):
you know. So I want to touch more people. On
all that sounds horrible, but you know what I mean, man, Like,
don't go straight to the gutter on me, all right,
But yeah, like I want to reach more people. Yeah
I probably should have said that. I should have. I
want to reach out. No, I want to reach out
and touch more people, right, No, anyway, that's enough of that.
(07:31):
But yeah, I appreciate that. Double Jay, Like I said,
I love you, brother, and I wish Michigan the best.
You know. I know I'm a South Korrea, Ohio State
fan and kind of I don't predict them to you know,
go back and win it again, but hey, you never know.
But yeah, it's just fun to do. And you know,
when it comes to guys, we always talk mess to
each other and get under each other's skin and kind
(07:52):
of poke at wound, poor salts on it and make
it worse. It's just how guys are. But if you
who are around guys and they don't talk shit to
each other, technically they don't like each other. I know
it's kind of weird. For women. I know they don't
understand that sometimes, but when we talk mess to one another,
it means we love each other. I mean, it's just
(08:14):
our way of doing it. But yeah, like I said,
I love you guys to death, all all your day ones,
and I appreciate the reaches out every once in a
while are saying, hey, you know how you've been. I
am enjoying myself listening to your other four to year
episodes things like that. So I cannot thank you guys enough.
So I don't do it for y'all. Absolutely, So let's
get into the week zero promo, Week zero Promo, Week
(08:37):
zero preview. You know, it's not the staggering, you know,
amount of games. We're not going to have fifteen top
twenty or top thirty matchups, you know, because you couldn't
have it, I guess. But it's still football. I think
the opening one is a doozy. That's where we'll start,
(08:58):
of course, Saturday, August twenty, third of the year, twenty
twenty five, early eleven am kick ESPN, Dublin, Ireland. This
is where college game Day is going to be. I
do believe this is gonna be Lee Corso's last college
game day. So he's not I'm sure he's going to
(09:20):
travel back, you know with the guys, and but I
think this is his last show, so it's gonna be
a little heartfelt. Definitely. One of the reasons why I
watched College Dame game day was Lee Corso just that
character and the great things he did and what he
did for college football, and you know, he was a
(09:42):
coach himself. He played and you know, he knew his shit,
you know, and he loved the game too. You know,
he has that true love like I do for the game.
But you could just tell the last couple of years
how he is just kind of cognizant, has kind of
been off. You know, he looks lost. Sometimes he can't
(10:03):
catch his his thoughts, can't catch his mouth, things like that,
and that happens with older people sometimes, you know, with
dementia and just old age, you know, you know, Miles
and you know, Lee Corso has been all over the
country a thousand times, not just in this country, you know,
in other countries as well. So definitely gonna have to
(10:23):
try to catch that. I know, I've been working a
lot of Saturday mornings, so but I'm usually off in
time to watch a little bit before the game. So yeah,
heartfelt Dublin Island. This is the kickoff game of the season,
and I think it's a doozy. Like I said eleven
am on ESPN, it's Pharmageddon Big twelve in the spotlight.
(10:45):
We got number twenty two Iowa State the Cyclones going
up against the seventheenth ranked Case State Wildcats. Love this
this rivalry, you know, I don't know if I put
it on my top two rivalry games that I've done
like a little special every once in a while, but
(11:06):
it's it's definitely in the top fifteen. I would say,
for sure. Not your hate factor. It's respect factor that
you know. It's kind of a mirror game that they
kind of emulate each other. They both want to play
it the right way. They're both from farming communities kind
(11:26):
of in the Midwest, and they take their football and
their family and their you know, religion, their work very seriously.
They're big, you know, blue collar people, and they take,
you know, respecting this game and they will do whatever
they can to get things done and win the football game.
(11:48):
So that's why I said, this is a great way
to start it. You're gonna see, yeah, you're gonna see
a little bit of mishaps. You're gonna see some turnover,
You're gonna see fumbles and penalties and you know things
like that. But I want to see two teams that
really can hold the banner for the Big twelve and
run it the right way. And I say that like
(12:08):
I think of Colorado as kind of a you know,
look at me, look at me kind of team for
the Big twelve. And then you have teams like these
that are just you know, shake your hand yes, sir, no, sir, yes,
ma'am no, ma'am type of teams. And it's gonna be
a great game. Kansas State is favored by three over
under on this one's fifty one and a half. Yeah,
(12:30):
you might see some fights, you might see a little fisticuffs,
you could see any some things like that, but the
hate factor is not there. And I know when it
comes to rivalries people think it's just hate. It's not
necessarily hate. It's just two teams that pretty much bounce
back off of each other every wee. You know, Case
(12:50):
Data go on a little bit of a win street
two years and then Iowa statea went for two years.
It's a really close matchup as well for victories, so
no one really has a clear cut advantage. As I said,
case State with the three points going their way, I
would State gets the three points. Fifty one and a
half is not a real high over under. They're predicting
(13:12):
in the twenties for each one. So h yeah, I
think it's going to be a dandy man Like I said,
that is former given at eleven am on ESPN following
College Game Day five point thirty on Fox. This will
be the last, you know, Week zero matchup for at
least the twenty third. I have a few more games
for you guys, but this one's definitely got some appeal.
(13:36):
There's something here in this game. Five point thirty on Fox.
The Fresno State Bulldogs Mountain WIST Conference. They're going to
Kansas to play the Jayhawks. It's got that feel. It's
got the NIU at Notre Dame type phil A team
from a smaller conference going to a team that should
(13:58):
beat you. I mean it really is. Fessional. State's probably
getting some money to go to Kansas. I do believe
this is Kansas's opening day game for their their new stadium.
They got they built a whole new stadium. I necessarily
wasn't impressed with it. I have some cool looking things
about it, sure, but it's still kind of I see
(14:22):
Kansas as at a basketball school, for sure, but very
I'm trying to think of the word just reserved. You're
not really no flash, you know, no flair, and you
kind of need that every once in a while, and
especially in a stadium, you know, things like that. Kansas
is not really that kind of team, but I still
(14:43):
see something here. Like I said, I see a Fresnel
State going, you know, hey, walking into their stadium and
given their stadium their first loss. Yeah, you know, and
some teams really get up for stuff like that, so
don't be surprised. You know, Kansas is favored by thirteen
and it's kind of a disrespectful number, but over under
on this one is fifteen and a half. Yeah, it's
(15:05):
a low over under. I see the potential there for
Fresnel State, but I also see Kansas kind of coming
out and going, hey, you know, when you were talking
about the Big twelve, you were talking about teams like
Iowa State and k State, Arizona State, teams like Texas Tech. Hell,
even byu Utah. No one's really talking about us and
(15:25):
the Kansas Jayhawks, and they want to see, Hey, come
out week zero, you know, kind of have your own
little area and it's gonna be on national TV. Go
and whoop up on a team like Fresnel State. It's
not like a Division two school, you know, they're they're
they're they're fighting for a conference championship too. Yeah, it's
a left er conference, the Mountain West. But hey, go
(15:47):
on and whoop that team. Put put put half a
hundred on them and don't let them score. I mean,
that's just the way it's got to go when it
comes to these less appealing week zero, week one, week
two games going a big conference versus a little conference,
or a big conference versus a Division two school. But
one that one just seems really interesting to me because
(16:08):
I'm pretty sure I might catch that one for sure,
five thirty on Fox Fresno State at Kansas. All Right, Thursday,
August twenty eighth, So we're gonna fast forward a little bit.
This is technically week zero. I don't count week one
officially starting till the thirtieth, so anything that happens from
week zero to the thirtieth is technically still week zero.
(16:31):
So Thursday, August twenty eighth. Here we go, four thirty
kick on ESPN. Remember these times are Central Standard times.
Do your math accordingly. Number twenty five, you know, the
the greater five, the non power for a team that's
probably got the best shot of going back to the
(16:53):
College Football Playoff, you know, making some noise yet again,
now the odds are stacked against them. But that's the
number two fifth ranked Boise State Broncos. You know, the
Mountain West Conference Championship, one out of the two spots
will probably be Boise State. I got a little sleeper
team I'm gonna talk about here in a little bit.
(17:14):
But yeah, it's not surprising that you know, wherever they're playing.
It could be in Las Vegas where they're playing that
Mountain West Conference championship that you wouldn't be surprised to
see the Boise State Broncos. But they are traveling, you know,
a little bit across country. Hear me out to play
the USF Bulls. You know, University of South Florida. The
(17:38):
Bulls could be trapped. I see it right here, and
the spread kind of shows me that as well. That's
why I have it right here negative or minus six
and a half for Boise State. So South Florida gets
that six and a half points. You know, when they're
playing at home. You got a team like Boise do
you believe they're up in Idaho and they have to
(17:59):
go cross country in August and go to a muggy,
you know, humidity state in Florida. It's not necessarily a
good thing. I see upset special right here. Absolutely over
under on this one. Sixty three and a half, so
they're seeing some scoring, but the six and a half
is definitely respected to USF and the home field advantage,
(18:22):
the cross country trip for Boise State, YadA, YadA. But
that one's got some really good flare to it. It
could be a good visually appeasing game as well. Boise
State's got a really good color scheme, you know, white, blue, orange,
and then South Florida with the gold and the green.
You could see some really cool, aesthetically looking game right
here as well. That's four thirty, number twenty five, Boise
(18:45):
State favored by six and a half, going to USF
to play the Bulls eight o'clock kick on ESPN. This
one's got another good little fil to it. I think
this is an interesting game. We got Nebraska out of
the big team in going to the Cincinnati Bearcats out
of the Big twelve, A good show me game for
(19:07):
the Big Twelve. Not the biggest, baddest team in the
Big twelve. Definitely a team I didn't talk about in
the off season stuff. But we're not expecting a lot
out of Cincinnati. But everybody knows how college football goes.
It's organized chaos. Everybody said the same thing about Arizona
(19:28):
State last year. Teams like Indiana predicted to finish at
the bottom of the barrel in their conference and no expectations,
no pressure, nothing like that, and you just go out
and play loose football and you go out and win
a bunch of games and end up in your conference
championship and winning it in Arizona States case. So a
(19:52):
team like Cincinnati is very interesting. Definitely keep an eye
on them. I usually do my conference, of course, being
the Big Twelve. Like Nebraska coming into Cincinnati, I think
that Nebraska is a really interesting team as well, really
weird wild card team. Yeah, you know, give me the
(20:13):
usual suspects and the Big Ten, but I could see
a team like Nebraska knocking somebody off somewhere that they're
not supposed to. Now, remember Matt Rule, I do believe
he's going into his third I want to say third year.
You know coaching big Red. You know, I very esteemed,
a very well respected program. And usually coaches like Rule
(20:39):
by the time they get to that second, third and
fourth year that they've gotten their players, they've kind of
weeded out the bad eggs and they've recruited what they want.
Usually you start seeing good things from programs like Nebraska
and team like like the Cornhuskers and a coach like
Matt Rule, I could see big things with them Riola.
(21:01):
You know, Nebraska has a good year. I could see
that guy being talked about as you know potential, you know,
Dave O'Brien, you know, hell, you never know these Sometimes
these teams come out of the blue. It's not fun
just talking about blue bloods. You got to talk about
teams like Nebraska. Throw in some random middle the tier
(21:22):
big twelve teams acc as well. These teams practice just
like everybody else. They put their pants on one leg
at a time as well. They wear the same helmets,
they wear the same pads, They work out the same. Now,
some teams have a better you know, workout stuff and
sports nutrition and of course coaches and training facilities and stuff. Sure,
(21:46):
but you know we're all the same people, So why
not a team like Nebraska, but they're favorite by six
and a half. Like I said, I do believe I
said that. I'm not sure if not did or not
kind of rambling over under on. This one's three and
a half, so I'm not expecting a whole lot. But yeah,
that could be a very interesting game. I think that
this game could change each team early in the season.
(22:10):
I think, you know, Cincinnati beating in Nebraska, being the
underdog at home can kind of lift up your spirits
going into your season. Beating a Big ten team. Everybody
knows the Big Ten has won the last two national championships,
so got to talk about that. So in Nebraska going
on road to play a potentially good team in the
(22:32):
Big twelve. Hell, you never know. Week zero unpredictable. But
like I said, eight pm ESPN, Thursday, August twenty eighth,
Nebraska at Cincinnati Friday the twenty ninth, we got a
seven o'clock kick on Fox. This one's got some This
hasn't got some smelly good to it, man, This has
(22:52):
got some good old fashioned football man. Right here. Auburn
at Baylor yet again, another team, two teams not really
talked about, Auburn and the SEC Baylor in the Big Twelve.
Good show me game for each one. I know it's
(23:13):
more of a show me game for Baylor than it
is for Auburn, but you can still say, hey, at
the end of the year, Baylor ends up winning nine,
maybe ten games, makes it to the Big twelve, you know,
conference championship game. Auburn gave them one of their only losses.
Of course it was a week zero, but still that's
(23:33):
a quality win because everybody knows at the end of
the year, you know, it's a just for shits and
giggles LSU preseason number nine. They finished their season five
and seven, right, that win against them early wasn't necessarily
(23:55):
that impressive of a win when they look at the
final standing. Sure they're ranked number nine week zero, week one, sure,
but yeah, they were who we thought they were, right,
or they were who we didn't think they were. But
I still think this one's interesting. Auburn Baylor middle of
the pack. Like I said, bragging rights, this could be
(24:17):
an interesting game and the spreads very very small. Auburn
is only favored by two and a half over on
this one. It's fifty seven and a half. But you
want to hit the ground running. You're going against quality
opponents day one. You know, Week zero, you're not playing
the Eastern Northwestern State Bobcats. Week one, week zero, you're
(24:40):
starting your season off against a big boy, a heavy
hitter that is Auburn at Baylor. Could see either one
of them having an eight or nine ten win the eight,
nine or ten win season. Heck, you'll never know. Why
not those middle of the pack guys and not exactly
lump these two teams exactly in the middle of the
pack of the respected conferences, don't really mean it's not
(25:03):
going to be a good game. Fifty seven and a
half is the over and under at seven o'clock on Fox, Friday,
August twenty ninth, same day, seven o'clock on ESPN. I
think this one's juicy as well. We got Georgia Tech,
the Yellow Jackets out of the ACC going to Colorado
(25:23):
to play the big twelve representatives in the Buffaloes. Georgia
Tech is favored by four over under on this One's
fifty four and a half. Got some sexiness to it.
I'd love it. Two teams definitely overperformed. Two teams' probably
lump them in with an Auburn Baylor kind of in
(25:46):
the middle of their conference, at least preseason wise. Now,
can Colorado have a really good year like they had
last year? Yes, I'm not predicting it though this year
I see Colorado having some hiccups. No Sugar, no Travis Hunter,
but they only won nine games last year. Take those
(26:07):
two players out, They're a seven win team. On the
other side, Georgia Tech, they overperformed last year as well.
Can they have another good year. I'm gonna say yes,
because I think the ACC is a little weaker than
the Big Twelve. I would put the ACC at four
in the power for the Big Twelve, just by a
(26:29):
smidge over the ACC because I just think the ACC
is more top heavy while the Big twelve is you
can look at seriously, six to eight teams in at
the Big Twelve can legitimately win the conference and make
some noise I think potentially in the College Football Playoff.
But I love Georgia Tech. I'm definitely rooting for them
(26:53):
over under on this One's fifty four and a half.
Like I said, could be a good game. I see
so much potential. But yeah, give me Georgia Tech. I
love them. I just dislike Colorado. That's all it is.
But that's seven o'clock ESPN, Friday, August twenty ninth, last
game I got for you. It's always some random game
that just kind of sticks out to me. Eight thirty
(27:15):
kick CBS Sports Network. Yeah. I know it's probably a
hard channel to find. If you have it, cool if not,
don't worry about it. This just just got some It's
got a weird feeling to it. UNLV in the Mountain
West Conference, I think this could be a sneaky team.
I think you say in the Mountain West Conference, you'll
(27:37):
say Boise State they're gonna win it one more time
right before they leave to go to the Pac twelve.
Give me a team that is not really been talked
about and you know, could make some noise, could win eight,
nine ten games this year. Give me UNLV the running
(27:58):
Rebels because Dan Mullen is the head coach. Now, now
some people have different feelings about Dan Mullen. I think
he was very respected. I think he kind of got
the short end of the stick at certain programs. Now,
what he did at Florida and what he did at
at I want to say it was at Mississippi State.
(28:21):
Two different things, but they were still producing. It was
kind of them trying to think of that coach in
Cincinnati for the Bengals. You know, he was winning, you know,
eight nine games a year, and then everybody finally said, oh,
you know, we're tired of being mediocre, we're tired of
being average. We want to be great. And then you
(28:43):
fire that coach that you know you had mediocrity, yes,
but then you regressed. And that's kind of the way
I feel about certain teams. Sometimes you let a guy
go a little too early, and I think Dan Mullen
really got the short end of the stick. Now this
is a regression for him. He's used to coaching big time,
(29:07):
you know, college football teams, but I think he could
do wonders at UNLV. So give me watch out for
the UNV running Rebels too, potentially make some noise in
their conference, and hey, you never know, might be that
one non power forward to make the college football playoff.
Now take that with a you know, huge, you know,
container of salt, because that's a long shot, of course,
(29:30):
but hey, if it happens. You're here. First, they're going
to play Sam Houston. I know, Sam Houston's not a
sexy name, a sexy team. Every once in a while
this team does something interesting. Uh they go far though,
though I remember a year they come down here to
love it and I played us in a week zero,
(29:52):
Week one WIT two type style game and you know
they're they're put up some points. You know what. They're
one of those wide open teams. Be interesting. Like I said,
UNLV is favored by twelve and a half over under
on this one's fifty eight and a half. But it's
got upset appeal. But I also want to see Dan Mullen.
I want to see his kind of SEC build. You
(30:15):
know how he used to run his teams in the SEC.
If it translates to a team like UNLV, and if
they bought in to you know what he brings to
the table at a team like UNLV, So it could
be interesting. Like I said, just watch out for the
unv U NLV Rebels in the Mount West Conference. That
is them at Sam Houston eight thirty CBS CBSSN that
(30:38):
is Friday, August twenty ninth. Well that does it for me, guys,
you know that was two games the twenty third, two
games the twenty eighth, and then three games on the
twenty ninth. Like I said, it's not we're easing into it.
Week zero is actually meant for that. It's not too
(31:00):
completely overload your palate and you're just scrambling to know
what to watch. And there's four eleven am kicks, you
want to watch two of those. There's three two thirty
kicks and you want to watch two of those. You
know there's eight seven o'clock kicks, and you want to
watch four of those. It gets a little overwhelming at times,
and I know that's a reason why some people don't
(31:20):
like college football, because there's just so much going on
and it's hard to keep track. Absolutely it is. But
when you have one hundred and something teams and you
only have a certain amount of days to get these
games in, and there's only a certain amount of hours
in the day you gotta get there's gonna be many
teams playing at the same time. It is what it is.
But that's neither here nor there. Farmageddon starts us off.
(31:43):
I like that Fresnel State Kansas game that night, the
Boise State USF game, Thursday could be interesting. Nebraska Cincinnati,
the night Cap on Thursday Friday. You know SEC versus
Big twelve, Auburn at Baylor. I love of the seven
o'clock kick on ESPN, the Georgia Tech at Colorado game,
(32:04):
It's got some good feel to it. And then the
Creeper game. That's scary game, that interesting looking games, that
eight thirty CBSSN game UNLV at sam Houston. So this
is an appetizer, you know, this is I think of
your favorite appetizer, and then think of your second favorite appetizer.
(32:26):
Did you try to order your favorite appetizer and sorry, sir,
I'm sorry, ma'am, we are all out of fried cheese.
And then you go, well, I like fried mushrooms, I
like fried zucchini egg rolls. I mean, think of whatever
it is, and you go, hey, I don't get necessarily
(32:49):
what I want, but I'm still gonna get satisfied. And
that's the way you gotta look at Week zero. I
know it's not juicy. I know there's not fourteen really
good potential games that you want to watch just from
morning to sundown, right, But this is just gonna, like
I said, Palette, just you know, a little here's you
(33:11):
a little liss some sum you know, cause I like
a big steak, but you know, every once in a while,
I like a good little sirloin, you know what I'm saying,
Like a little eight out steak, just kind of small.
It's just enough to kind of like time me over.
And I think that's what Week zero is for me,
and if it is for you as well, I'm I
hope so. But anything's better than nothing right now, you
(33:32):
know what I'm saying, Like, I need my football, and
that first game is gonna be great. Yes, it's not
so great the next couple of days, but I still
get football and we'll be fine. So teasing Week one
a little bit before I send you guys off. Of course,
we have the number one team in the country going
to the reigning defending national champs. Then their third ranked
(33:57):
Ohio State Buckeys. That's gonna start soft Week one. That's
that noon game. I know a lot of people are
really disappointed about it, but you know, Fox has Big ten.
Big Ten's hosting the game. It is what it is.
We also have eight rank Bama. You know, the Crimson
Tide going to Florida State has upset potential it has. Hey,
(34:20):
Mike Norvelle, where are you with this program? You had
a horrible year last year? To and ten, I do
believe and a team like Alabama's coming to your house
week one? What are you gonna do? And then vice
versa flip the script. Alabama had a year last year.
Go to an unranked Florida State team and lose and watch,
(34:43):
you know, roll Tide start saying, Hey, roll out that coach.
You know what I'm saying. Interesting game right there. We
got LSU, ninth rank team in the country, going to
quote unquote Death Valley at Clemson. This is the Battle
of the Death Valleys. Clemson claims their home stadium is
(35:05):
Death Valley. LSU's is the true Death Valley. So that
is number nine LSU at number four Clemson. Two teams
could possibly end up in the College Football Playoff. LSU
I'm not sure if they've been the last couple of years.
I know they won and I think it was twenty nineteen,
but yeah, I could see them getting back as well.
(35:29):
But I think they're still a little overrated. I just
don't like their coach. I'm not a big Brian Kelly fan.
And Clemson has one of the best coaches in the games.
And then we have the thirty first, so that'll be Sunday.
That'll be you know, the last Sunday. I think college
football can really come on on a Sunday because everybody
knows NFL owns Sundays. We got Virginia Tech at number
(35:52):
thirteen South Carolina. I think that could be a really
interesting game acc versus SEC phil I think of Virginia
Tech kind of let me down a little bit. I
was a little high on them last year. And then
South Carolina has that LSU type flair Miami type player
where I think they're a little too overrated. Now they
(36:12):
have a great player in Leonora's Cellars. But can they
guide themselves through that tough SEC schedule. They're going to play,
you know, six out of their probably their eight games
on the year are gonna be against quality opponents, and
that's just the way the SEC roles. Can they continue
the ride and you know, stay up there around where
(36:35):
they're at at thirteen and possibly backdoor themselves into the
College Football Playoff. We got Convicts versus Catholics three point zero.
I don't know, whatever you want to call it. Notre
Dame coming in as a sixth rate, sixth the ranked
team in the country. Miami hosting the Notre Dame Fighting
Irish as the tenth best team in the country got
(36:56):
some sexiness to it. It's got some old cool, nostalgic
vibes to it as well. Notre Dame coming off a
very just horrible taste in your mouth. You make it
to the National Championship game, you lose, and you got
to go back down the mountain scan you know, scale
down that mountain one more time, just to go try
(37:18):
to go back up and do it again. It's very disheartening.
It's hard for teams to go to that apex and
not get what they want and have to come back
down and do it all over again. So I want
to see Notre Dame in this game and then hosting Miami.
I think Miami's kind of got that feel as well.
I've said that about the eight through twelve, eight through
thirteen teams in the preseason eight people they got to
(37:40):
show me a lot, And I would say out of
those eight to thirteen, between eight and thirteen, sorry, only
a few of them are going to either stay there
or even stay in the top twenty five. So This
happens every single year. Show me Miami, welcome in Notre Dame,
the national runners up, beat them, Carson Beck your first
(38:02):
real game as a Hurricane, and you got a doozy
and Notre Dame. And then the last one, TCU at
North Carolina. It's it's not the juiciest matchup, but I
am really looking forward to that game. This is Big
twelve at ACC. This is Bill Belichick's first collegiate game.
(38:25):
Will it work? When is TCU coming back? Ken North
Carolina thrower hat in the ring Bill Belichick's first year
and say, hey Clemson, we know you run this conference. SMU,
real cute what you did last year, But here comes
(38:46):
the North Carolina Tar Hills. Could be a very interesting
game and it could really change the pass of both
of these two teams. And the same way was all
these other games that I've talked about all during this
whole season. Beating a team with the name and beating
a team with a number, maybe an all star coach
or a herald transfer portal. Addition, you go off and
(39:09):
you win that game that you probably should have lost
that could change your entire season, and then vice versa,
losing a game that you're supposed to win, could send
you to the bowels of hell. College football is beautiful,
it's chaotic, it's crazy, it's lovely, it's ugly, it's nasty,
it's fun, it's insane. It's all these different words, man,
(39:33):
and I am all here for it. I hope you
guys enjoy yourselves. You know, summer's over. Technically, I know
it's not really here in Texas. Seasons wise, we're gonna
be hot here in Texas till at least October. I
mean sometimes Halloween's still kind of warm. It doesn't seem
(39:55):
to get cool till November. But sometimes I remember, if
you Thanksgivings, it's still kind of warm outside. So our
fall is very very short. Our springs are very very short.
But our winners and freaking summers are freaking long. Man.
So you know, just got you know, I was on
the internet yesterday. Internet. I was on my phone and
(40:20):
just scrolling in Texas Tech. You know, I follow them,
of course, you know, being a Red Raider, and I
get to go back to a game this year. I
didn't get to go to one last year. And you know,
whether it was money or scheduling conflicts or things just
fell out. I didn't get to go to a game
last year, and that was the first time and since
(40:41):
I was eight years old, so thirty years I didn't
get to go to a Texas Tech game. So I
broke my streak. Very disheartening. I remember senior Day because
I would try, you know, I would talk to merchandisers,
I would talk to friends, I would go on the
on you know, websites and stuff and look and try
(41:02):
to get tickets and either something always fell out, you know,
whether it was like I said, money, scheduling, work, you know,
things like that. It's just it was so disheartening to
miss a game last year's and to break my streak.
But hey, I'll start my streak back up this year.
(41:22):
So that's the thirteenth. I do believe Oregon State the
Beavers are coming to town nationally televised game. I do
believe that's a two thirty kick on Fox. Your boys.
CEM will be there. I'll be wearing white. That's our
radar power game. One side of the stadium wears one
color and the other side of the stadium will wears
another color, so I'll be there. I'll be wearing white.
(41:45):
So look for a white guy wearing white right, just kidding,
But I'm super excited, man. I can't wait to step
foot in that stadium. I see that stadium every single
day on my way to work, and I can't wait
to see the new renovations. And I'm so I'm so excited, man,
I really, I'm tearing up because, like I said, I've
(42:05):
been to over fifty ten games in my entire life,
and it feels like the first time every time, like
it really does. And I can't wait. But I's neither
here nor there. I'm excited. I don't know if you
can tell, but yeah, you guys stick care of each other. Yeah,
like I said, I enjoy enjoy the football, even if
it's not. Like I said, it's not a miss five
(42:28):
star Michelin. You know, restaurant, you know you're not gonna
get the best all the time. Sometimes a nice little diner,
a nice little burger joint, a little hole in the
wall dive bar has the best beer specials, a little
rundown you know, a frame house looking restaurant sells the
(42:51):
best burgers in town. Man, So don't dishearten some of
these these these matchups. There's going to be jewel in
there every once in a while, and even some of
the games I didn't even talk about. There's a bunch
of games that come on from of course the twenty
third to the twenty ninth. So just pay attention, look
(43:11):
it up, you know, do whatever you need to do.
These are just the games I'm interested in. So, you know,
do you I appreciate you guys so much. Have a great,
great summer the rest of your summer if you do
have summer there, if it's technically fall where you live,
you know, have a great fall. But let's enjoy this
this you know, football while we have it, because blink
(43:32):
and it's over and we're back in this off season mode.
And it seems like off season mode lasts forever. So
like I said, take care of each other, love each other,
do whatever you can for each other. Do everything with passion.
If you enjoy it and you have a drive for
it and you have a voice for it, you know,
follow your dreams, man, I mean, really seriously, do that.
(43:53):
And I appreciate Double Jay reaching out to me because,
like I said, I need that every once in a
while because sometimes not sometimes mundaneus just kind of gets
to you. Finally, you feel like you're just doing the
same thing over and over again for nothing. And sometimes
every once in a while, you know, someone says, hey
I appreciate you, or hey I love you. Keep doing
(44:15):
what you're doing these things like that, and it just
kind of gets you back in that mode, you know
what I'm saying. So I love you guys to death.
