Speaker 1 (00:00):
M m m mmmmmmmmmmmm. Already being manners and welcome back

(00:27):
to season two of Reefer's Rivalries with Me Michael twenty
month now, it's been a couple of months since a
couple of months, more like four months, Jesus, four months
since I last since I last spoke to you guys.
They closed the season with the en Wagers episodes, and

(00:52):
I know, I'll apologize. I didn't plan on having such
longer break than what I did, but you know, life
getting away, and you know, I mentioned like last few
episodes that I did that checking out my twitch stream,

(01:12):
and that has gone absolutely crazy over the last few months,
and that's probably the main reason why I've been a
bit delayed on finally getting around to start in season
two of the Rivalry episodes. But we're here now, We're
all good. Finally found a procedure, a schedule or whatever

(01:32):
you want to call it where I can fit everything in,
you know, between work and your twitch stream and then
getting these done out. So I've had a lot of upgrades,
you know, if you remember, like I used to use
an old band aid track recording studio from the nineties

(01:53):
to record these, and then it's sort of like moved
up to be semi digital, but now I'm fully digital,
and I must say like it's loads easier then fighting
on with a hundred one hundred cables all connected to
a laptop. I've just got one cable and a mic.

(02:14):
Now it'd see its miles and loads easier, loads better,
more convenient, and everything is going good. So yeah, without
further ado, let's get into this first rivalry of the
season two, And what better way to start off with
the Super Bowl champions The Philadelphia Eagles rivalry against the

(02:41):
New York Giants. Now, this rivalry began in nineteen thirty
three with the founding of the Eagles and slowly strengthened
when both teams became more relevant in the nineteen forties
to nineteen fifties. Teams have played in the same division

(03:01):
in the NFL every year since ninteen thirty three, making
this the second oldest rivalry in the NFC East, behind
the New York's rivalry with the Washington Commanders. But this rivalry,
you know, doesn't just stay in the NFL. The rivalry
between Philadelphia and New York well known across the cross

(03:25):
all boards. With you know, in baseball, you've got the
Mets and the Phillies rivalry, and in the ice hockey
you've got the Flyers and the Rangers. Yeah. So it's
safe to say that Philadelphia and New York don't really
like each other. But Sports Illustrates have ranked this rivalry

(03:47):
number four in the top ten of the NFL rivalries,
and according to ESPN, it is one of the fiest
and most well known rivalries in the football community. And
what better way to, you know, showcase the fierceness of
this rivalry by getting him with our first rivalry moment.

(04:09):
It came in nineteen sixty and it was known as
the hit In. In November nineteen sixty, the Eagles Chuck Ben, Oh,
here we go again, Sorry about this. You know what
I'm like with names. Bed Nadik Leanly blindsided Giants running
back Frank gifford In, a player known as the hit Windly,

(04:31):
considered as the hardest and one of the hardest rackles
in the history of the NFL. This sent Guildford to
the ground unconscious. He was removed from the field by stretcher,
transported to a hospital by an ambulance, and diagnosed with
severe concussion. The player forced Guildford out of the game

(04:52):
for the next eighteen months before he wasbly able to
return to the Giants eighteen months concours off one hit.
I mean, I'm no doctor, but if you have to
be out with concussion for eighteen months, I don't even
think it's worth returning. But we did so. As The

(05:12):
next notable moment we've got in this rivalry is the
Miracle at the Meadowlands slash of the Fumble nineteen seventy
eight and on November the nineteenth, nineteen seventy eight, at
the Giants Stadium, the Giants were leading the Eagles seventeen
twelve with twenty seconds were made offensive coordinated Bob Gibson
balled for a running player when all of the needed

(05:35):
was for the Giants to take a knee, having previously
run over while knailing and the player prior to this,
The handover between quarterback Joe Pisadig and Laddie Corsonka was
fumbled and the Eagles cornerback Herman Edwards grabbed a loose
ball returned it for a winning score. This play is

(05:59):
commonly referred to as the Miracle of the Meadowlands by
the Eagles fans and just the fumble by the Giants Fans.
In nineteen eighty one, the Giants and the defending NFC champions,
the Eagles, qualified for playoff berth. The Eagles hosted the
Giants on December twenty seventh in the wild Card game,

(06:21):
and the Giants, led by quarterback Scott Brunner and head
coach Ray Perkins, took twenty to zero lead in the
first quarter. The Eagles rallied but never managed to lead,
and the Giants held onto the win at twenty seven
to twenty one. The game ended with Scott Burners kneeling
down on the ball, which was revenged for the Joe

(06:43):
Prussic Game over three years earlier, and the Giants would
gone to lose thirty eight twenty four to San Francisco
in the Super Bowl twenty six the nineteen eighty eight
divisional title game nineteen eighty eight, so both teams competing
for the NFC East title. On November the twentieth, nineteen

(07:07):
eighty eight, the Giants hosted the Eagles, with both teams
running for control over the division. The Eagles, led by
the coach chair Buddy Ryan and quarterback Randall Cunningham, fought
a tough match to bring the game into overtime with
a score of seventeen seventeen. In overtime, the Eagles defensive

(07:28):
linemen Clyde Simmons carried the ball fifteen yards after a
blocked Eagle field goal attempt to score the game winning touchdown,
completing a season sweep over the Giants. This was dubbed
the Forgotten Miracle at the Meadowlands. Both teams finished with
a ten and six record, but the Eagles won the
NFC East due to their head to head victories, while

(07:50):
the Giants lost the wild card tiebreaker against the Rams
and missed the playoffs. The Eagles would lose to the
Bears in the game formerly known as the Fog Ball.
On January seventh, two thousand and one, the Eagle the
Giants defeated the Eagles twenty to ten in the divisional
playoff game with the help of Ron Dickson's ninety seven

(08:13):
yard kickoff return and Jason Sehorn's acrobatic thirty two yard
interception return. This win helped propel the Giants to Super
Bowl thirty five, which they lost to the Baltmore Ravens
thirty four to seven. Now on January seventh, two thousand

(08:36):
and seven, the Eagles defeated the Giants twenty three to
twenty in the wild card playoff game on a David
Aker's field goal as time expired. The Eagles had relinquished
a ten point lead in the fourth quarter, with the
Giants trying trying the game on a touchdown by Plaxio Burres,

(09:00):
we're just over five minutes remaining. Jeff Grassier and Brian
Westbrook led the game winning drive deep into the Giants territory,
allowing the Eagles to train the clock to three seconds
before Akers lined up for a thirty eight yard phield
goal to win the game. In two thousand and eight,
there was another divisional game between these two and the

(09:23):
two teams split their two thousand and eight meetings and
the Giants rallied to edge the Eagles in Philadelphia thirty
six to thirty one. Then later on in the season,
the Eagles hit the New York offense en route to
a twenty to fourteen win at the Giants Stadium. So

(09:45):
as a result in that in that season, these teams
both met in another divisional game in January the eleventh,
two thousand and nine, and that would ultimately be the
final playoff game in the Giants Stadium, where the sixth
seeded Eagles defeated the top seeded Giants twenty three to eleven,

(10:08):
leaving the series tied two to two in all time
playoff games. Not just two years later, we then witnessed
the miracle at the New Meadowlands in twenty ten. On
December nineteen, nineteen twenty ten, the Giants led the Eagles
thirty one to ten with seven point two eight seven

(10:34):
minutes and twenty eight seconds left, the first game between
the two teams at the New Meadowlands Stadium where first
place in the NFC East was on the line, but
the Eagles rallied to tie this score and won the
game on a DeShawn Jackson's sixty five yard punt return

(10:54):
for a touchdown with no time left on the clock
for a thirty eight to thirty one victory. The Elia
Sports Bureau noted that this was the first walk off
punt return in NFL history. The Giants missed the playoffs
despite finishing tied for first with the Eagles ten to six,

(11:15):
and the Eagles lost the last two games of the season.
From the list I can find, there's only really been
a handful of players who have played for both teams.
You know, start with quarterback Norm Snead, quarterback Joe Pisadek Hunter,

(11:36):
Jeff Fiegels, corner cornerback Dominic Rodgers, Crummy, the Hunter, Michael Hornan,
tight end, Mark Bavero, wide receiver, Ingram Senior tight end
Tyler Jackson, wide receiver Paddis Campbell, and wide receiver Steves Smith.

(12:00):
Most recently, running back Sequan Barkley. I'm not mistaken. I
think the first round, the first pick for the Giants
this season, the first round pick a Bull Carter. I
think he's actually from Philadelphia as well. See a lot

(12:21):
of these rivalries have done. The list of players that
I found that have played for both teams have been
quite big, and I haven't been able to actually complete
the list, just pick out well known names. Was this
that doesn't seem to be many? Now, this rivalry, you know,
is that well known that they use it in films.

(12:42):
So in two thousand and six, the film Invincible follows
Vince Papel played by Mark Wahlberg, as he rises to
play for the Eagles. You know, he crushes on her
co worker who've been from New York is a Giants
fan and in his break out game the Eagles played
the Giants when he recovered fund for a touchdown. Two

(13:08):
thousand and nine film Big Fan depicts a Giants fan
Atton Oswald and his bittle rivalry with Eagles fan Michael Rappaport.
Both good films if you haven't seen them, advice that
you give them a watch. Then. After winning the NFC

(13:30):
Championship on January twenty nine, twenty twenty three, the Empire
State Building got lit up to celebrate the Eagles, making
the Super Bowl spark and outrage from many people in
New York, including the mayor, so who gave them the
authority to light up the Empire State Building to celebrate

(13:55):
the Eagles and piss the may off. You know, surely
something like that would have been had to have been
passed by the Mayor. I don't know it all works,
but it seems to piss a load of people off,
which I'm all for that. I'm all for it healthy
winding people up, as long as no one gets there

(14:18):
welling at me notes I've actually got through that hell
of a lot faster than what I was thinking. You know,
last time I did these episodes. Sometimes that were going
for like an hour, and I've been trying to, you know,
structure them so I can get them down to at
least twenty twenty to twenty five minutes. I'm sitting at

(14:39):
forteen minutes now and I've pretty much gone through it
all because we're at my favorite part of the episode,
which is the start part. And we'll give you some
status here of the Eagles and the Giants, So I say,
the first meeting was in October the fifteenth, nineteen thirty three,
where the Giants beat the Eagles fifty six to zero.

(15:03):
The last meeting January the fifth, twenty twenty five, the
Eagles beat the Giants twenty to thirteen. And altogether there's
been one hundred and eighty six meetings between these two
and that's a lot in it, really when you think
about it. One hundred and eighty six times these teams
have played, and the all time series goes to the

(15:25):
Eagles at ninety six to eighty nine with only two ties.
The regular season series still also sits with the Eagles
at ninety three to eighty seven with two ties. Poor
season results, the Eagles take that with three to two,

(15:46):
the largest victory for the Eagles came at forty five
to zero, which was in nineteen forty eight. The largest
victory for the Giants came fifty six to zero, which
was the first ever meeting at nineteen thirty four. The
most points scored came from the Eagles at forty nine.
That was forty nine points that was in nineteen fifty nine,

(16:10):
and the most points scored by the Giants was sixty
two in a game in nineteen seventy two. Both of
these teams have went on long winning streaks, you know,
against each other, and for the Eagles that winning streak
was a winning streak of twelve that spanned between nineteen
seventy five to nineteen eighty one. The Giants had a

(16:35):
winning streak of nine. They've added twice. They've had it
nine between nineteen thirty eight nineteen forty two, and they've
had nine in nineteen ninety seven to two thousand and one.
And the current winning streak at the moment is the
Eagles with two. The post season playoff history between these

(16:56):
two there's been six meetings altogether. Two of them were
in the wild card one where the Giants have won.
One were Giants one for twenty seven to twenty one.
The Eagles won twenty three to twenty. And then there's
also been three well I've added that up wrong, Sorry,

(17:17):
they one to three. Yeah, there's five meetings, not six
sothing and those three divisional rounds where the Giants have
won one twenty to ten and the Eagles of one
two first one twenty three to eleven, and then the
Eagles won in twenty twenty two they won thirty eight

(17:40):
two seven. Like pretty much all I have for the
Eagles and the Giants week. Yeah, I go through that
a bit quicker than what I thought. So you know,
for the next thing, I'm gonna restructure me episode a
little bit because I said maybe could do with it

(18:01):
lasting another an extra five minutes. But yeah, we will
get it. You know, it's my first episode back after
about four month. Man, you know, cut some slack. But
what we do have coming up once the season gets
under the way again, you know, it will be the
return of the International Reef Report, and you know it's

(18:22):
been the home teams have been announced, let's say, and
we've got wanted we treated the seven international games this season.
The first one is going to be the Chargers being
the home team in Brazil, and then we've got the
Cults going to Berlin. We've got the Dolphins going to Madrid.

(18:47):
We've got the Steelers going to Cork in Ireland, and
then we've got obviously the Jags going to London, and
we've also got the Browns going to London and the
Jets going to London. Personally, I would like to try
and get to the game in Spain. It's at the

(19:08):
really would be at to burn About Stadium, which is
the real Madrid football stadium. And I mean there's one
stadium I have always wanted to visit, you know, a
cross on off my list, and you know, I would
like to have gone there for a L Classico, which
would be real Madrid versus Basel Bona or for even better,

(19:30):
would be an L Classical night in the Champions League.
Would gone there to see the Dolphins were whoever that
may be. I think would be take that, Take that,
even if I never get there for an old classical.

(19:50):
I mean I'm just really looking at, you know, the
opponents for the Vikings next season. I mean, we've got
the Brea Pounds away, and we've got the Steelers away,
and we've got the Chargers away so you know, there's
a chance that one of them away games could be
for the Vikings Browns. I see the only chance for

(20:12):
me for getting to see them this season. I think
if the Browns play the Vikings in London, I'll definitely
be trying to get tickets for that, unless we end
up flying stateside again, because that is also an option.
I know it may sound ridiculous, but it actually worked
out round about the same price, if not just a

(20:32):
little bit cheaper for us to fly to Tennessee last
season to see the Titans versus the Vikings. And what
it would for me to travel down to London, which
only takes two and a half hours on the train
to see the Vikings play in London, and it's just
the basis of transport in the UK is ridiculous. You know,

(20:54):
a two and a half hour train ride costs pretty
much the same as what a flight YEA to Nashville was,
So it's there's a no brainer. Really. The amount that
they were charging for the tickets was ridiculous compared to
the amount that we paid for the for the tickets
in Tennessee. Yeah, it's I'll wait until the fixtures come

(21:17):
out until I decide where I'm going this season, but
more likely, I think my own chance of seeing the
Vikings this season is if they play the Browns in London.
Well that's it from me today, guys. I will be
back weekly from now on, hopefully unless something ridiculous happens.

(21:37):
But you know, usually something ridiculous does happen to me,
so you know, we never know, but hopefully I will
be back weekly. With these rivalry episodes, there's a lot
coming up, and there's a lot going on. You know,
it's it's getting to an exciting part of the season
where you're getting the build up. You know, you're like, hey,
I'm not really that fusted the minute, and then you know,

(22:00):
week by week the excitement starts toping. I like to
give a big shout out and thanks to you know,
the football function guys, Michael and Tennis Manfield and of
course the ground fromage of football university mister c and Funk.
That's the big j's of college football in French, I think,

(22:25):
and primetime gives you know. I can't wait till the
season start again, and everyone's firing on all cylinders, and
I think it's because I've been distracted with my mas
stream and everything else that I had gone on over
the last few months. You know, it wasn't really until
the draft started that it started hitting in that. You know,

(22:48):
There's been no football for ages. I've got nothing going on.
I'm a big hockey fan. I've got nothing going on
in the hockey. My Predators didn't make the start the playoffs,
Master didn't make the playoffs in the UK League. You
know what I mean. I've got nothing to look forward
to at the minute, apart from looking up these rivalries

(23:09):
and telling you guys about them. So I'm going to
leave it at that. I'm going to finish this episode
and prepared for the next one. Yeah, if you want
to follow us on twitch, if you just go on
to twitch, I don't know if it's a thing that
is like doing or watching or anything, but I'll stream

(23:30):
a game called ark Over on Twitch. It's a survival
game and it's and it's fun, stressful, it's it's good
it all. But if you want to find me on that,
you're just type in four twenty grim reef all one
word and you should pick up. I'm on there pretty
much every night through the week from eight to nine

(23:54):
pm UK time for about five or six hours. I
don't know, you know, how well it goes. These episodes
will also be getting recorded on Twitch and also when
I'm doing back in the start of the season, when
I get back into the groom wagers episodes and the

(24:16):
International Reefer reports. I will be doing a watch party
for the International Games on Twitch. You know, for copyright reasons,
I can't actually show the game, but it will be
you know, be me watching the game and comment on
it and recording the episode in between quarters like I

(24:37):
do normally. So I will watch you next time everyone,
and remember Piece is free and stiff like
