Speaker 1 (00:00):
What are the five keys to being a great investor?
So the number one key that I would say is
to be open to opportunities. Investment is about timing. It's
about finding the right thing at the right time and
seeing the future. Number two, you have to be analytical.
If you aren't analytical, if you're just emotional, you're going
to make bad decisions because you're going to get all excited.
You're going to invest in something without doing the homework.

(00:21):
What are you basing your decision on? Can you model
it out? Do you have information that other investors don't
have so you can make a better decision than those investors.
Number three, you need to be curious. Curious people are
great investors because they're always exploring new things. They're always
opening themselves up to new things. And when you're out
in the world, looking, interacting with people, always asking questions,

(00:43):
going and exploring what you're interested in, you will find
naturally find great investments. Number four, you need to listen
because every person you're interacting with is a source of
information and you can't integrate all this information if you
are closed, if you have preconceived ideas already think you
know what the best investments are, you will never be
a great investor. Great investors they are constantly listening to

(01:07):
the market, to their coworkers, domain expert and if you
can do this, you will start to piece together the
pieces that lead you towards an investment that other people
don't see. Number five. Patient. If you have figured out
a great investment, let's say a stock it goes up
and up and up, and then it goes down. A
lot of investors will say, oh no, it's going down.
I will sell. But you need to go back to
your original premise. What was your thesis? Why did you

(01:28):
invest in this? If you invested in this for the
long term, and you still believe that your thesis is correct,
you won't sell. You will hold on to that investment
and let it come back. This is what separates amateur
investors from great investors. Great investors tend not to be
short term investors. If you look at the richest people
in the world, they didn't make their money overnight. They
made their money over decades. They were very patient and

(01:50):
methodical about getting there. This quality, above everything else, is
essential to be a truly great investor.
