Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Trump administration wants to deny visas to Chinese students
attending US universities. I think this is a huge mistake.
Chinese students actually contributed over eleven billion dollars to the
US economy. When Chinese students graduate US universities and enter
the workforce, they actually contribute overwhelmingly to American leadership, American innovation,

(00:25):
job growth in America, and research in America. Many of
the most successful startups in the United States have Chinese founders.
If we don't allow these founders to attend our universities
and start their companies here, we won't have the job growth,
we won't have the innovation, we won't have the new technologies.
Our university system is number one in the world because

(00:46):
we are open to people of all nationalities, all ethnicities.
People coming here from all over the world contribute not
just their brain power, because they tend to be some
of the brightest students from those countries, but they contribute ideas,
their unique perspective, their history, and their culture. They infuse

(01:06):
them into our university system, and they allow American students
to learn from students overseas. China has a civilization that
is over five thousand years old. China has a rich
culture art, in the humanities, in the sciences. Our students
can learn so much from interacting with and collaborating with

(01:27):
Chinese students. We also build bridges to China. Every time
at Chinese student attends the US the university, they not
only take away the knowledge they learn in the university,
they have a better understanding of America. What are our values?
How do we view the world? What are our ideas?
What is our nation founded on? When these students go
back to their home country, they often adopt American value.

(01:50):
This contributes actually to the economic growth of China and America.
We grow together. The world is a global system. All
of us are interdependent upon one another. We cannot lift
up this world and make it a better, more stable
place by cutting ourselves off. In fact, we need to
be going the opposite direction. We need to be opening

(02:11):
up more, inviting more foreign students in here.
