Speaker 1 (00:00):
It feels weird balancing rugby and film again that time
of year. At last new rugby season. Hopefully Red Roses
have done it. Oh wait, fun road time. October is

(00:21):
one of those months where there really is something there
for everyone, from the London Film Festival right at the
very top of the industry to a wealth of classic
films returning to the big screen. It might be a
dead month, as they'd say, but there's plenty to pop
into your local cinema to go and watch over the
next four weeks, especially as Wicked mooms very large.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
So let's get straight into it.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Welcome to front Row, your one stop shop filling you
in on all of the movers and shakers opening in
British cinemas over the next four weeks, and whether you're
part of the pod squad because yes we're a podcast
now or a loyal viewer on the socials, wherever you are,
wherever you're based, we are here to bring cinema.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Kosa Rugby might.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Be back on as this goes out, but we're sticking
around every month for Krosskey Jacksmith dot com platforms, because
by god, do we actually prepare for this show now?
Kicking it all off this October? Is this a bunch
of lovely films?

Speaker 2 (01:21):
When he's distant? Is high?

Speaker 1 (01:23):
I'm sacrificing everything.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
What do you have from me?

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Answer strong Adibian. A day without pain, It's like a
day without sunshine.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
This kind this is kindy scene.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
I don't think on October third is The Smashing Machine,
the brand new film from Benny Safti, reuniting Dwayne Johnson
and we've gone after making Jungle Cruise. This film got
quite a standing ovation on its world premiere. It's a
simple plot telling the story of mixed martial arts and
UFC champion Mark Kerr. This is The Rock as we
have never seen him before.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Ready, I think so? You think so?

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (02:01):
No answer? Goodbye? Are you ready?

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Now?

Speaker 1 (02:03):
This the first time The Rock has made a proper
live action film since he after around and found out
the ww fan base for screwing over one of the
biggest storylines of a year.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
It's still really a big David.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
The reception to this film coming out of the festival
circuit has been big. I think we will be talking
about it Awards time and basically the other Saftie will
release his brand new film on Boxing Day, We'll be
covering Josh Saftie's brand new film in the December edition
of front Row when that is ready to release alongside

(02:35):
the seventeenth Well, you can tell hang Ween's coming up
because a sequel to one of twenty twenty two's most
surprising horror films is opening in The Black Phone too.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
What happened in that piecement really changed.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Sin.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
I had a bad dream.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
It was a bad missing kids based on the information
I've got here in the original Black Phone because I
didn't get a chance to watch it. When first teen
year old Finnkin killed his adduct and escaped, he became
the sole.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Survivor of a grabber.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Now we get to see what happens when he's now seventeen.
His sister begins receiving calls in her dreams from the
Black Phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being
stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake. Black
Phone two is Scott Direks and one again returning to
horror gen right now. If you're wondering, Scott Oaks sounds familiar.

(03:33):
He did the first Doctor Strange film that was one
of Marvel's more unique films and he's gone back to
the kind of filmmaking that he enjoys, making a lot
less creatively stifled, and it's.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Worked for it.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
We won't be covering this one at the Jacksmith dot
com because of course it's a horror film. But I
did actually get to hold the print of the Black
Phone one when that came into the local cinema because well,
a team leader trusted me with holding the BCP when
it came in.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
It was a busy night.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
It was a very very busy night, and naturally a
sequel to horror film that did as well as it did,
you know, expectations are going to be high. Scott has
taken his time making this one. I know the strike
really screwed things over a little bit. In tends to
get a cast and crew in place, but I think
it's going to be relatively strongly horror films at this
time of year always do. And yeah, I don't know
what else I can say about that, because I know

(04:25):
I won't be covering it for the Jacksment dot Com.
Also opening on October seventeen is as He's on Sorry's
brand new film Good Fortune. I know all about you.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
I know you lost your job. I know you're living
in your car. I did everything I was supposed to
do and nothing's working out. I'm not really supposed to
be doing this.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
I'm normally only in charge of saving people from texting
me and driving.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Right, you're telling me I have a budget Guardian Angel
kind of now.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
I know we covered Dogma a little bit last month,
but the plot sounds very very very very similar a
well meaning but rather ineptange or name Gabriel Medals in Lives.
I'm a struggling gig worker and a wealthy limiture capitalist.
You know this is going to be quite spicy on
the nose comedy whenever as E's is making a film,
and what a cast he's got to because you've got

(05:12):
as He's himself, Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogan, and Sandra Oh
all popping up in this film. It's going to be
a very goot release by my estimation, but I would
imagine that it all open strongly, play well with critics,
and then maybe get expanded in the weeks that follow.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
You never know.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
October is a none forgets a little bit unpredictable. One
thing I know is not going to do well is this.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Thing we're taking a trip to spend the week with
my grandma a new evance. Go, Gabby Katz, it's time
to go.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Here we go. Do you want to come to Ca
Francisco with us?

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Let's do it? Yeesh?

Speaker 1 (05:52):
This is the big October half term film from dream
Works or yeah that somehow for it was a good
idea to make a Garby's Old House movie. I have
no clue about the franchise. I have no clue what
it's going to be. Like, I sing the trailer for
it on the Birthday Marathon and I was immediately like, yeah,
DreamWorks have jump the shark a little bit, haven't they.

(06:12):
I don't even want to read the plot out because
it sounds so stupid. What you want me to read
it out?

Speaker 2 (06:20):
All? Right?

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Then Gabby and Grandma Gigi's road trip takes an unexpected
turn when Gabby's prize dollhouse ends with X century Cat
Lady Vera.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
That's Kristin Wigg Is it?

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Gabby and barks on an adventure to ReLit the Gabby
Kats and retrieve her beloved dollhouse before it's too late.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
You know what, I don't right? Who am I right? Mind?
Who am I right? Mind Green at this film? Who
am I right?

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Mind Green at this film? Really right? You want me
to talk about it? Apparently they want me to talk
about it some more. Yeah, it's going to film from DreamWorks.
It's DreamWorks Animation doing a bit more like action. They
sing how it works with House Train Your Dragon earlier
on in the year, and they decided, well, big new franchise,
IP or we've done a Netflix series for let's just
put that in cinemas and see how it plays. It's

(07:05):
opening in time for the half term holidays, so it's
going to do well with the family market. It's unlikely
to get much of attention from me because it just
looks terrible. I've seen better family friendly films a Cinney
Wagon and this thing looks but on the other ending
spectrum from a genuinely crap film to something that's going

(07:26):
to be pretty good. Edward Burgher's got a brand new
film out not many people are actually talking about because
it's going on to.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Netflix at the end of the month.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
In Ballad of a Small Player, this is the guy
who brought us all quite on the Western front, and
last year's very brilliantly time release of Conclave.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
You're running out of puff, maybe out of puff. I
still have my boss, Yeah right, belong Now.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
This will be a very limitted release in cinemas before
it goes on Netflix at the end of October, And
it sounds like a really good little plot when his
pass and his debts starts catch up with him, a
high stake scambler laying and macau encounters a kindred spirit
who might just hold the key to his salvation. And
I'll tell you something like this release date, October seventeen

(08:14):
carries a lot coming in but it's oh yeah, Channing
Tatum's new film comes out that day as well.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
We are like going back in time and imagining how
things could have gone differently.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Like what if I made different choices.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
It's been six months and still no leads on the
whereabouts of the escaped conflict.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
When I read this plot, which is barely mind this
is a true story, A charactermastic criminal, while on the
run from the police, hides on the roof of a
Toys or Os store. There, he adopts a new identity
and becomes involved with an employee, beginning a relationship as
unlikely as it is risky, and sing you've.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Work for the government since a little classified so I
never knew we had an intelligence.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Unit here in Charlotte. Oh are you larnwordsman? Yes?

Speaker 3 (09:06):
I am.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Wow, that's amazing.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Now this film is built as based on actual events
and terrible decisions, and it's just one of the craziest
casts I've seen for a while in a comedy esque
film like this, Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dun's with Keith Stanfield,
Juno Temple and Peter Bricking English. I mean, this has

(09:30):
got all the hallmarks of a unique little film, doesn't it.
Are they excited to see how this one plays? Just
because Channing Tatum is just making projects are interesting now,
not big franchise ip like he used to.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
A week after on.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
October twenty fourth, Welcome Back Your Gass We go in
Here releases on October twenty fourth, Here in England, reuniting
with Everstone for yet another film. There, fourth film together
after the favorite Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness. Those
two are keeping themselves busy.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Welcome to the headquarters of your Human Resistance.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Where is my hair? Your hair has been destroyed to
prevent you from contacting your ship?

Speaker 2 (10:13):
What ship?

Speaker 4 (10:15):
Your mother ship?

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Okay, it's a remake of two thousand and three Korean
film Save Green Planet. Emma Stone plays a pharmaceutical CEO
who gets kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists who are very
convinced that she's about to destroy the world.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
I've done a ton of research on this. You're killing
our planet, lim fell Off.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
I'm not an alien.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
You're lying to me.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
What's the difference.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
It feels like your goss is back to making very
dark comedy, very topical comedy as well. And the amount
of films he's cracking out in such a short about
of timeline, has anyone checked.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
In on whether he's okay? Because he's made.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Four things kinds of Kindness and this all within a
year of each other. That's one of three films out
on the twenty fourth. Because Colleen who the fans unite,
You got yourself a new film to gook forty in
regressing you.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
Life can have a funny way of surprising you. My
mom got pregnant with me when she was eighteen. She
and my dad were high school sweethearts. Aunt Jenny also
ended up with her high school boyfriend, Johanna. I thought
it would be one big, happy family forever, but the
universe had other plans.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
I'm very sorry your husband and sister were own a
car out. We did everything we could.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
This one centers on the strained relationship between younger and
Morgan Grant and her teenager daughter Clara, made worse by
Morgan's husband, Chris's tragic death, forcing them to navigate life's
challenges together. Directed by the man who brought The Fault
in Our Stars to the big screen in Josh Boone
and featuring Alison Williams of Girls Fame and the Kenna
Grace of Ghostbusters, Frozen Empire and Ghostbusters After Life faith

(11:52):
this film looks like it won't be as controversial as
it ends with us, but another faithful adaptation of a
queen who the book that will likely play well with
the young adult audience. And rounding things off for twenty
fourth is Springsteen Delivered Me from Nowhere, telling story of
Springsteen's journey crafting his nineteen eighty two album Nebraska, which

(12:12):
emerged as he recorded boarding the USA with the iconic
E Street Band. This is based on Warren Zaym's book
and the fact that Bruce has actually signed off on
a film work. This says a lot about how much
potential it's got.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
This is a highly unorthodox career move.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
That's the point.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
He's channeling something deeply personal. But in this office, my office,
we believe in Bruce Springsteen.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Now, this is around the time the Boss started getting
properly big as a megastar, and it's Jeremy Allen White
who plays him in this film. A lot of research
went into portraying a role, and there's been a lot
of good musical storytelling that's been done.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
The Bob Dylan film came out earlier this year year.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
You've just got to look at the last couple of
years in terms of musical icons giving their go ahead
to make films like this. They're a lot more comfortable
telling their stories now, which I think is a good
thing for the industry because it gives you some original content.
And it's a great cast, not just Jeremy Allen White,
but you've got Jeremy Strong, Stephen Graham, Paul Waterhouser, and

(13:23):
Odessa Young in this film as well. It's also director
of Crazy Heart, who won an Oscar. So you know
this is going to be a very well made, very
well produced film. Gives me an next you put some
Springsteen on the playlist, I can definitely say that much.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Now.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
The eagle eyed amongst you might have noticed that there
was no film spot for October tenth, and there's a
very good reason why, because this month, our smit hot
film is taking us back to the world of the
Grid in a film true get built for the biggest

(14:02):
and the loudest of screens.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
I would like you to meet. Eris the ultimate soldier.
He's biblically strong, lightning fast, supremely intelligent, and if he
is struck down on the battlefield, I will simply make

(14:31):
you another.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Tron is a series that has divided people over the years.
The original one in nineteen eighty two was ahead of
its time and audiences got a bit of a cult
sensation for Tron legacy. This film could be gone awful,
but visually we know this is going to be big.
Tron Aries is a semi reboot of sorts following a

(14:54):
highly sophisticated program called Aris, who is sent from a
digital world into the real world on a dangerous miss,
marking humankind's first encounter with AI. Beings a very topical
film given how much we've got to know AI since
trong Uncasy came out wait for it fifteen years ago.
It's been that long and after Joe Kasinski pioneered Tron

(15:15):
for a New Generation, Yokim Ronning is the man in
the director's chair in a very new, very more modern
Tron for a New Generation. What a cast as well,
with Jeff Bridges once again coming back, Jared Letto say
what you want about if, Gillian Anderson, Grettedly, Evan Peters,
and Moore all joining the series to create a film

(15:36):
that is built for premium large format screens like Imax,
like Epic by View, like superscreen, like Hypercents. It is
a film that's really come alive on the biggest screens
with the best projector and the best sound system. Now
I know one of our team here at front Row
and Lean Jacksmith dot Com is particularly excited because nine

(15:58):
Inch Nails are had the scoring duties following on from
the iconic Dappunks handtrack for Legacy and Wendy Cass's work
on the original Tron back in nineteen eighty two. I'm told,
i'm very good authority that they are also an incredible
guy band. Well that's what steps relay to me. Anyway,
I need to ask them more about it. She knows

(16:18):
go work better than I do. But what I do
know on the scoring side of things is that Trent
Resident and Askus Ross know how to innovate with our scores.
The Social Network, Gone Girl, Challengers, so many others. They
all remain their most well known work for the big screen,
and it's the first time that these two have actually
been able to use the nine inch Nail's name, a

(16:41):
name associated with much and much heavier sound than their
previous work, in any film project. It's a really indicator
of how much freedom they've been allowed to get by
Disney higher ups. Would I think the plane at this
moment in time, we're filming this on September the ninth.

(17:01):
The plan is as a front row production team, we're
all going to watch this film together, which I'm very
excited about.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
I want.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
It's great to have a social life these days.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
It's funny like that.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
So beyond the new stuff, we have a lot of
old stuff coming back in as well, because not only
are the first two Tron films back on the big
screen from the end of September onwards in some venues,
we also have a head of Avatar, Fire and Ash coming.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Out this Christmas.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
The Way of Water is back on the big screen
from Oxyber third, So if you didn't get a chance
to watch it in Christmas twenty twenty two, now is
he chanced to catch up ahead of the new film
coming out over professive period but in more of My Realm.
Golden Eyes back on the big screen for the first
year anniversary on October the fifth.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
Names Bond James Bond from Worlds Master Famus Secretly Jut
is back. We're owned to please.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
And this time Double or seven is releasing the Ultimadenmy
the Man who knows him the best? Hello, James, what's
an unpleasant surprise? Golden Eye was one of the best
Bond films and I will die on that hill for
a very long time. Very well made, very well produced.
Score could have been a bit better. Eric Sairah's score

(18:16):
didn't quite land as it did the title track Scoge though,
Tita Turner title track is amazing.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
But you all know the plot.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
You all know the story, whether you watched the film
or played the video game, whether on N sixty four
or Xbox, I know it's a film that's beloved to
hear at Smith HQ, not just because of its quantity.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
But we played James Bond board game a.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
Lot, and I always like to rinse whoever ends up
getting the Pierce Brosnan cards. I got Pierce Brosnan, I
say his name. I have to play this clip.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
Maybe you should.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
At least he evolved his performances from Taffin up to
Golden Knight cast Michel. But it's really good to have
gold Night back on the big screen. I know some
change in the James Bond season a couple of years back,
but anytime you can get gold Night back in its
original form, and I believe it will be the fifteen
certificate version that's played, not look at down twelve version.

(19:16):
Any excuse to play it is just great in it.
Another film that you just never get tired of watching
is Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, which is back on the
big screen for its twentieth anniversary on October tenth. Nothing
screams Halloween more than the Corpse Bride. So to have
a new generation get introduced to this classic is brilliant

(19:40):
and I know it's going to get a lot of
love because people who've never got to watch it on
the big screen back in the day. A whole generation
who've grown up watching it on TV, watching it on streaming.
Who will want to watch this on the big screen
where it belongs? Is again, this is why we have
spotlighting Yeld but Gold releases here on front Row. Old
but Gold film back on the big screen, which seen

(20:03):
quite a few times is one. We're over the cookies,
nest English A level, students unite.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
How about it? You creep? You do you think you're
crazy or something? Well, you're not, You're not.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
It's a twisted film, It's a messed up film, but
one that still holds the test of time, and again,
a lot of people have never had the chance to
watch it on a big screen. So we will spotlight
these films where we can. However, there is one classic
film I think deserves a little bit more of a
spot like than just a simple passing mention in the

(20:40):
Old but Gold section.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
This one's going to make a lot of people very,
very very happy. When this baby hits eighty eight miles
per hour.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
You got to see some serious shit.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
Celebrating forty years since Part one, Grace Give Big Screen
on haw Aween, one of the finest films ever made,
returns to entertain a brand new generation as Back to
the Future returns with a brand new four K remaster
in venues up and down the UK. It's stood the
test of times since nineteen eighty five. It's spawned an

(21:19):
actually good musical version in a West End, which.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
Is going out on tour next year.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
It has just been announced and as a trilogy and
as a stand alone film it works just as well.
It's infinitely quotable, got one of the best scores in
the world, and whenever you hear stuff like Back in
Time or Power of Love or Johnny B. Good, you
know exactly what you're getting yourself in for. For those

(21:44):
of you who are based here in Preston, our very
good friends over at the Arc Cinema will be rolling
a fan event on the thirty first, which will have
a photo opportunity with the DeLorean outside the cinema. That
is going to be mega. I will be going down
for that. Tickets for that are available at Preston do
Arksineva dot co dot UK. Not being paid to say this,

(22:08):
We've got to make this abundantly clear, but it's worth
noting because I really want to have a picture of
Goodlorian and I know a lot of my friends from
Sydney Wire the festival director of Sydney WI, who's a
big back to the future nerd. I think me and
him will likely be representing that night. So into events
the cinema for this month on the second of October,

(22:30):
with Halloween Firmi inview, they have brought out a event
that's quite a literally built for the film nerds. Imagine
the nineteen twenty two version of nos Farati with Radiohead albums,
kid A and an Easy Act providing the soundtrack, and
you have Radiohead in nos Ferati, a symphony of horror.

(22:50):
This will be playing very limitsing venues, but anything that
can get my next generation experiencing silent film can be
a good idea. We know how important film history can be,
so getting them educated and loving the old films in
brand new ways is something that we can really get
behind here at Lee.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Jacksmith dot com.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
In the more conventional events Cinema Realm Missus Warren's Profession
from National Theater Live will go live to cinemas on
the twenty third of October. This is Emelda Staunton alongside
her real life daughter Bessie Carter in a play that
tells the tale of two women born in different times
with different ideas on what a woman should be.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
Who are you?

Speaker 3 (23:29):
What are you? You don't know what you.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Are asking now.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
The spield at National Theater Live have Giveness say that
this one explores the cash between morality and independence, traditions
and progress. It Meldo's a fantastic talent, her daughter working
alongside her.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
What's not to like?

Speaker 1 (23:48):
And closing it all out on the thirtieth of October
is That Out of Hell the musical. It's a loose
retelling of the story of Peter Pan but with the
music of meat Loaf. This is the world premiere of
CAFILM version that we sent live to cinemas on the
thirtieth of October.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
It's going to do well. It's been proposed.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
Everywhere of late and it's one of the more unique
musicals on the market at this moment in time. So
that's pretty much everything of note coming into cinemas over
the next four weeks. I am going to be very
busy over the next couple of weeks because at this
moment in time we are getting ready to bring the
curtain down on a sinewire submissions window.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
So if you're a filmmaker who's got either.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
A family friendly, a horror forther a documentary or an
LGBTQ inspired piece of content, whether it's a short film
or a feature film, we want to see it. So
if you've got anything that hits like criteria, head to
film freeway dot com four tash Citywire, submit your film
and tell them that Lee Jacksmith dot com sent you.
We'll be back in four weeks from now to cover
