Well, sir, We're on the alert out here in Paradise
Valley Buckerhoo. Somebody's been passing a lot of counterfeit money
and it's mighty serious to a man when he finds
the money he's earned and needs his counterfeit. We're after
the counterfeitters and we're gonna get him before we're through.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
This whole territory will be broke pretty soon, Sheriff. Unless
somebody catches up with those counterfeitters.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
You don't need to tell that to me, Dale, I
know it old, who will? Well?

Speaker 5 (01:28):
A federal man seem to think they know who's passing it.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Well, they know one gang that sometimes floods a single
territory with bad money and instead of distributing it over
a white area. But there's no evidence to connect the
gang with our trouble.

Speaker 5 (01:41):
Well, I don't see how so much bad money should
have been passed up.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Listen counts a fight coming from across the street. Dick
Walley slakes, I'll see you later, Dale, then'less.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
Some bad mbreries hang out at Wiley's plays Sherriff.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
That's what I'm going over Bryan John, however, at the blacksmith.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
Shop, I'll go get him. You may need some help.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
You leave me alone.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
I didn't know it was counterfeit. Turn that man over
to me, hurt Jonah, the chef's in trouble. Yeah, well,
what's expect Hogan goes into place like this and Lady
shervan Tea and Colonel Loyd said, hobber, these our hosts
are hold him. Come her down here, let me go go,
make us go for our guns.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Let him go red hobbler walk his way.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Toward us, Say, Sheriff, why don't you get a job
guarden Silver were at a high society wedding or something,
then you wouldn't run into this rough stuff over here. Ed,
I would if I knew for certain, I wouldn't meet
a Spavernex private from General T. K. Rose Army. Well
like you now, don't you call me Spavron?

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Hold it, Jonah.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
I got to smooth a pair of hawks as there
is in the country, and ask pretty too.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
All right, Ed.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
I wanted to pay that old dick Wiley. I didn't
know the money I gave him was counterfeit. Move on outside, Ed,
I defy anybody to find his fabing on my hops.
I say, anybody take it to your office.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Sheriff, Joan and I were back through this door behind
you didn't see that.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
There's no interference.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
The law has to handle men trying to pass bad money,
not ol hoots.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Jeff. I'll tell you I didn't know my money was bad.
I've never been in trouble, not in all the time
I've lived here. Where'd you get this money? It's small time?
Sheriff asked, ing questions like a dtake he to cover up.
He's got a shock of a brain pool. I say, pooh, pooh,
pooh want Ed, We want the truth.

Speaker 6 (03:37):
Where'd you get it?

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Working that money was in the pay envelope I got
at Mitchell Life's company.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
I swear it was.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
You want to hold Ed sheriff, I'll have to until
the federal man have talked to No. Please, I got
ready to add a little pox.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
That's all right, Ed.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
While you're waiting here, Joan and I will go over
and see how the Minchell Life Company handles their payroll.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Rogers, nobody in the world has got a right to
ask me how I handle my payroll. I absolutely refuse, Rager, Eh, Roy,
this fellow may have to be put with the awkward squad.

Speaker 6 (04:17):
There's the door.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Come back again when you want to do business, but
not ask questions.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
Okay, Jim, you can expect a visit from the federal
men before the day's over come on. Jonah, Yeah, your confidence, Roy.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
I think I seen this fellow fighting on the side
of the Indians in the Battle of Crow Canyon. Wait
a minute, Rogers, what was that you said about federal men?

Speaker 4 (04:38):
Ed Harbler claims he got counterfeit money in his pay envelope.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
That's impossible.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Only one man beside myself has access to the money,
Milk Keebler, and he's been with my company for almost
sixteen years.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Would you mind sending from Milton now so we can
talk to him.

Speaker 6 (04:51):
Till he's not here?

Speaker 4 (04:52):
Milster squawkery getting money for this week's payroll?

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Huh, well, yes, that's what he's doing. I wonder if
side Jim.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
As a business man, you're as anxious to trace this
counterfeit as we would. You mind if we'll wait here
until Milt gets back so we can have a look
at the money he brings.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
For the payroll.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
All right, Rogers, I don't like it, but I guess
your plan is best me Spavin.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Thanks Jim.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
No matter how this works out, you're saving your community
a lot of time and tracking down some bad armreies.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
As Roy and John await.

Speaker 6 (05:28):
In Jim Mitchell's office.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
A lone horseman is riding toward Mineral City from Squaw
Creek near Rocky Gulf.

Speaker 6 (05:35):
He looks about quickly and turns off.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
The trail goes through a line of huge boulders toward
a ramshackled cabin that stands half hidden among the pine trees.

Speaker 6 (05:43):
There, the man.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
Stops his horse, dismounts and looks about.

Speaker 6 (05:47):
He's tense.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
His eyes scan the country from every side, rocks, trees, shadows,
and then, satisfied, he takes a leather bag from his
saddle and walks toward the cabin, a quality of intense
fears on his face. He keeps looking over his shoulder,
as though afraid of being followed.

Speaker 6 (06:03):
He reaches the cabin, pushes.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
The door opening, then waits, but his eyes grow accustomed
to the dark interior.

Speaker 6 (06:10):
A voice comes to.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Him, Come man in, I've been waiting for your milk.
Milt the horseman is Milt keeper. The leather bag must
contain the Mitchell Ice Company payrole.

Speaker 6 (06:23):
Milt steps inside the cabin and closes the door.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
What's the meadow milk? You're not saying anything. Hurry up, sails,
you get the counterfeit ready, sure and seals and couldn't
after this trip. I've had a nothing you're going on
and you're not giving us away milk. We're treating you right.
You get your cut and we don't send you back
with all counterfeit. We just substitute of fifth of the

(06:51):
good money. With fair SALSI five hundred dollars is good
money for dropping in here a few minutes every trip.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
The boys and I I don't.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Make that much a peace treaton. You got here not
as as much danger as I am. If the confit
is traced, you have time to get out. Yeah, I've
switched the fifth of the money. Say your next trip.
They won't be any next trip. I'm quitting before forgetting
your cat.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Don't you want this five hundred No.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
No, I'm through.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
I'm finished with this. Milt leaves the cabin to continue
his ride towards Mineral City. As soon as he's out
of sight, the man in the cabin, the one called Sale,
steps through the door at the back of the cabin
where three henchmen have been hiding, lawless evil men. We'd
better follow, Kebler. He's scared. When a man gets scared
in this rackon, he needs watching.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
How many hearts.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Milt Kebler has ridden directly to the Mitchell Ice Company
plant and is walking down the corridor toward his own office.
He's relieved because he's made what he believes is his
last trip to Squaw Creek. As far as having anything
to do with counterfeit money is concerned. He does not
know he's being followed, He does not know visitors are
waiting for him in his office.

Speaker 6 (08:08):
He opens the door.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Who's come in, Milton?

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Heman, it's all right, Anything wrong, mister Mitchell? No, no,
of course not. Oh you've met Roy Rogers and June
the while, haven't you.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Mint? Sure we know Milt for a long time.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Yes, ever since I retired from the army after fighting
ten leven Wars wherever. You aren't waiting here to see me,
are you right?

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Yes, Milt.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
We are a man who works here was caught trying
to pass counterfeit money.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
He claims he'd got in his pay envelope that couldn't
be unless the bank in calif At money TSK.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
We'd like to be able to stop any accusations that
might be made against you, Milt.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Yeah, sure, to prove you ain't in league with no
unlegal operators ounce of prevention. He's worth a rose by
any other name, Milt.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
If you'll open that leather bag, we'll take a look
at the money you brought back from Squaw Creek.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
There's no reason to examine this money, eh, which he
ain't scared? Are you.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
We want to clear you as far as the federal
men are concerned. That's all.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
You put the money in the bank, joy head, miss
open it. I'm here to back you up. I'll stand
by you. Unbuckle the straps.

Speaker 6 (09:10):
On the bank, all right, mister Mitchell.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Shot, Milt, Milt. That shot came through this winter, John, Yeah,
Milt hit Roy. He hurt bad.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Yeah. I know the shot didn't come by accident either.
When we open the bag, we'll probably know why.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
Here's exciting news for all you buccaroos. It's news of
that thrilling and popular club, the Roy Rogers Writers Club.
I know each and every one of you will want
to join up right away. Why, maybe you'll be one
of the very first official members from your neighborhood. Now,
in just a little while, Roy himself is going to

(09:56):
tell you all about what is Roy Rogers Writers Club
stands for and how much Fern it is to belong.
You'll find out too, how easy it is for you
to join. So get your pencil and paper and be
ready for the big news. Right after we hear the
rest of our exciting adventure. The only clue as to

(10:22):
how Paradise Valley is being flooded with counterfeit money came
when Ed Hobbler was caught.

Speaker 6 (10:26):
Trying to pass some and claimed he got it in
his pay envelope.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
At the Mitchell Ice company, Roy and Jonah waited for
Milt Keepler, the company cashier, to bring the new payroll
from the bank at Squaw Creek. When he arrived, they
asked permission to examine the money. Milt reluctantly began opening
his money bag. A shot rang out and Milt fell
to the floor.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
The shot came through this wind. But there's nobody on
the street, nobody at all.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
Must have been done by a Sharpshe de Roy Mils
why come here?

Speaker 2 (11:01):
He'll still lie. He's trying to say dumping.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
What is it?

Speaker 6 (11:05):
Milt?

Speaker 2 (11:06):
What do you want to what? He wants to know?

Speaker 1 (11:10):
What?

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Say it again? Milt?

Speaker 4 (11:13):
Say?

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Hey, shunded to be like a name of some kind. Roy, Yeah, sales.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Hey, there's a Nandy sales stand over at the boarding house.

Speaker 6 (11:21):
Hey, look at Milk with you. I better run over
and get to dock too late.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Junior Duc can't help him.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Know I heard a shot, and I knew you and
Jonah Milk cheaper.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Somebody fired a shot through the winter Dale.

Speaker 5 (11:35):
But why why would anyone want to shoot milk?

Speaker 4 (11:38):
He may be involved in counterfeiting, Jim. Let's take a
look at that money Milt was carrying.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Milk couldn't have been mixed up with counterfeitors. Nobody will
ever make me believe that.

Speaker 5 (11:47):
Oh no, of course, not here.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
I'll help you get that thing unbuckled, Roy. Well, sure
you know Carpo Dumpfy carried a bag like this all
through the Sandy Hills campaign. The poor fellow trudged clear
across the wastelands carrying that bag. Sorry for him, I'll
get this buckle, Jonah. And not until the war was
over did anybody find out what was in it? And
then only me. Corporal Dumphrey told me, with tears in

(12:09):
his eyes, Well, what wasn't socks Dale, You sure socks,
dozens of them, you see. Corporal Dumphy had a sweetheart,
and she had a mortal fear of his being shot
in the doctor's finding. And he was wearing second day
socks at the time, So every day she did a
new parent send him to him. Freed to the fiend
was her name, Frieda the fiend? Uh huh. She was
a big dog here.

Speaker 5 (12:30):
What is it Roy?

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Counterfeit money?

Speaker 1 (12:32):
It can't be Roy.

Speaker 6 (12:33):
You're mistaken.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Two bundles out of the tin.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
The other eight are good.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
It is milk Keepler. Oh excuse me.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
We're pretty busy now, mister Sayer.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
Just a minute, Jim, come on in sales. You are
Andy Sales, aren't you?

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Yeah? But I was looking for milk Keepler. He and I.
What happened here?

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Sales? Milk mentioned your name as he died?

Speaker 1 (12:56):
My name? What do you say about me?

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Nothing has called your name? Oh?

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Well, and we were pretty good friends.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
It may be well, you were good friends.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
You probably knew that he was mixed up with a
gang of counterfeiters. Yes, I did.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
I knew it.

Speaker 6 (13:10):
I'd have staked my life he wasn't.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
I begged him to quit. He'd promised me that this
would be the last time he'd have any dealings with him.
And well, the reason I came here now is to
protect him.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
This time.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
I didn't want him to take another chance. We see,
I brought two thousand in cash of my own money
to replace the counterfeit I knew Milt would have says.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
How much do you know about the gang Milk was working?

Speaker 1 (13:35):
With enough, so I can take your torm right now.
I think under certain conditions.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
What do you mean in certain conditions?

Speaker 1 (13:42):
The kang is suspicious, you know that from what's just happened.
They're trigger men. They got eyes and ears everywhere, and
I don't want them to spot me talking to any lawmen.
So if I take your tom, we'll leave right from here,
all of us, we'll all go. Nobody stayed behind to
tell the federal man to track the gang knows the
federal man.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Well, how about it. We'll meet your condition. Sales, our
horses are outside.

Speaker 6 (14:07):
Let's get started.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
And these sales twisted scheming brains sized up the situation. Well,
these four roy Tayals, Jonna and Jim Mitchell are.

Speaker 6 (14:21):
The only people who know milk Keeper was killed in.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Connection with the counterfeiters. They must be led away, disposed
of in such.

Speaker 6 (14:28):
A manner that they can never tell what they know.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Then there will be no evidence for Sales gathered up
the counterfeit bills when he replaced them with a good
bunny from his own pocket. Now Sales is leading them
along the trailer park creek. They're nearing Rocky Gulch.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
Hey, Sales, just a minute.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Wor's the meter?

Speaker 6 (14:46):
Pull off your horses.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
We're stopping here, he bod Anything wrong, right?

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Is?

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Yeah? Considerable?

Speaker 1 (14:55):
You're not backing down?

Speaker 2 (14:57):
I am.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
I hope not, because now we're not back in. But
I think we've gone far enough on your say, so
we've got a right to know where we're going.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Yeah. I said that to General Thomas Kenneth Ruwe once
and got court mercial and we're all most there, rogers.
It's not much further, just a little way, right, speaking
for all of the sails, we insist on knowing where
we're headed. Well, I'm a little bit sorry, hey put
it that way. I thought you had more trust.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Are we gonna find out or not?

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Sure? I don't mind telling you. There's a hideaway cabin
back in.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Among these boulders.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
It's in a good spot, right under the pine trees.
That's where the gang.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
See. Now we're getting somewhere.

Speaker 5 (15:35):
Then why all the fuss about not telling us.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
The way I got things planned. The best thing is
for me to ride in and see if the gang
is there. If it is, I'll let you know and
we can take over.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Okay, go ahead, wait right here.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
I'll size up the situation and then we'll know how
to go after them. All right, I got a feeling
we're letting the enemy escape.

Speaker 6 (15:58):
He shouldn't go alone, really, he may need protection.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
He's not going alone.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
I'll follow him, but by myself. If all of us
work would be heard. And as far as protection goes,
I think I can protect Sales if he needs protection.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Roy and Trigger follow Sales as he leaves the trail,
invites to the boulder strewn gulship toward a ramshackle cabin.
Sales stops in front of the cabin, and Roy stops too,
at some distance away. He watches, concealed by the pine trees,
Sales goes into the cabin, then closes the door. Roy waits.
His suspicions are aroused. Now this cabin is supposed to

(16:35):
be the gang's hideout. Yet Sales went directly inside, and
Roy can only watch. He has no way of knowing
what is taking place in the cabin. We didn't do
a good job of that rifle. Milk Keebler lived a while.
Wait a minute, listen to me, I haven't got much time.

(16:58):
Melt mentioned my name. He may have had a lot more,
But if he did, only.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Four people know about it. And I've got those four
with me outside where cool near the main trail.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
To go any shooting here, But you fellows take the
shortcut to the last chance mine. I'll bring him there.
Wait in the back chamber with your guns ready. I'll
send them in the light. Will be behind him and'll
make good targets and we'll get them fast before they
have a chance to see the equipment that's start there.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Boys.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Jill watching sees Andy Sales come out of the cabin,
and he sees something more, something that surprises him. Three
men follow Sales and stand in the open door, bidding
him goodbye. Boy rides back to the trail for Dale
and Jonah are waiting with Jim Mitchell, who trigger easy boas,

(17:49):
what is it right? Hey? Something wrong? Where'd you find
out rogers?

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Sil You better head for town.

Speaker 6 (17:54):
The gang's in that cabin. Get the sheriff and tell
him to.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
Pick up the federal men and ride out here. Maybe
you'd better bring bullet too.

Speaker 5 (18:00):
The gang didn't get Sales.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
I think he's in league with him.

Speaker 5 (18:03):
I'll bring a posse back right away.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Oh what do we want with the sheriff? Roy? What
does he know now?

Speaker 4 (18:09):
Jonah the sheriff's are pretty fair lob, sir, even if
he isn't.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
A good judge's Badmins, Well, it ain't no laughing matter
to me. Hey, here comes Sales, right, hawks is a
matter of person of pride.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
We'll let Sales take the lead, Mitchel hang me to the.

Speaker 6 (18:24):
Hurry out, Rooran.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Wait a minute, what's happened.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
To the girl? I sent her for a posse?

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Uh? A posse? You'll send for a posse?

Speaker 2 (18:33):
That's all right, isn't it? Or yeah?

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Sure, but I'm afraid the posse will be coming to
the wrong place. The gang isn't here.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Oh is that song?

Speaker 1 (18:42):
No? But don't worry anywhere to find him, they have
to be in one or two places, either here or
at last chance.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Mine, I see you'll be taking us up there?

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Then?

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Is that right, Sales?

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Yeah? I'm sorry. If posse, we'll have this tipt for nothing.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Yeah, I am too. Maybe we won't need a posse.
I know pretty well what we're up against now.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
It doesn't make much difference where we take em here
or somewhere else.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Have you got that pencil and paper ready? Well?

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Hold on, here comes a special surprise for you from
Roy Rogers. Himself hotly, friends, this is Roy Rogers.
