Speaker 1 (00:00):
Act for Sure Stadium. We have been nicknamed for the
Citium in hines Field. It's the unhappy hour here on.
It took jay Z seven years to become an overnight sensation.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I mean opponents are running through them like skyline chill.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Why are you?
Speaker 3 (00:13):
I don't understand Edmunds tinkle tavel.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
This is actually going over the air.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
It is.
Speaker 4 (00:18):
Yeah, I love you that car for me.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Let's go to work Man's fun. It's officially the happy
hour right here on, Game On with Big Cat and
Fruit Loops. Go on, pull up a chair, unwind and
come soak in the undeniable greatness of sports talk's most
dynamic duo. Brought to you by Ingles Markets, Low prices,
love the savings. Did we peek early put it in
(00:42):
the flup file? Probably? Are we still coasting on it?
I've seen it a couple of times. Absolutely, and yes
it's all black, gold and processed blue as far as
the eye can see.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
You know, I'm winning Rome.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
He's gonna be Rome. Call us, let's fight about it.
It's there a call two four zero fifty four. Now
here's John ls and Trade, Paully Walnut's Falco. Oh my goodness,
we made it for a football Tuesday here. Thanksgiving week
is here. Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh. We're going
to get our hot takes in before we're eating turkey
(01:15):
here in the next couple of days. It's John. Let's
it's trade Paul. Here's a special guest here. What's going
to bring him in real quick before we starts screaming
over all O our bikes here. You know the voice,
you know the man, you know the you know, you
know everything about him. He's a linebacker, Cobra Stockton College.
He's got that pig in him. Yeah, that's what joke.
(01:39):
It's ethan pork.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Hello. Hello, by allergy's kicking kicking me a little bit,
you know, the back and forth. Yeah, you know it's
cold year here.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah, every month you're here.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Yeah, I know. Well when you go when it's forty
in Missouri and then it's seventy when you get here.
A good point, work, I tried.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
That's a good point. And it's like the Carolina Panthers
going from hot to cold overnight. We're gonna get into
a game last night that set the world of football
back about thirty years in the same stadium where the
Carolina Panthers, by the way, once upon a time played
against Peyton Manning in the worst Super Bowl of all time. Ah. Yes,
I hate that place and I hate playing the forty
(02:19):
nine ers because Kyle Shanahan, he gets a little lead
on you, he'll just milk it to death with that clock.
Carolina loses twenty to nine. I'm gonna give you a
few reasons why you should be concerned, and then a
few reasons why don't worry about it. It's gonna be
a good game of Ah, don't worry about it. A
(02:40):
lot of big matchups coming up for Thanksgiving weekend. There's
some news around the NFL about suspensions. Did you see
what happened at the end of last night? The clean.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Ranberry's I didn't see what happened.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Well, what ended up happening, and we just got news
on this. I was in a zoom call press conference
with the head coach of the Panthers, State Canalis, about
thirty minutes ago, where he did confirm that Trevon Merrick,
their best safety, they're leading tackler in terms of tackles
for loss, has been suspended for one game because at
the end of the game Juwan Jennings who was running
(03:16):
his mouth all night. Apparently that's legal. They got into
it a little bit and what was seen on camera
at first was Juwan Jennings taking a swing at Yeah,
a stealth reporter. I don't know who got the shot.
The suppruder film of all time got the shot of
Merrik lay in the first hay Maker, which was a
punch to the twigging berries. Yes, below the belt. That
(03:42):
as ye as a panthers guide. Look. It leads us
to our big question of the day, brought to you
by English markets where you can find some good braves
and berries. And what's worse getting spit on or being
punched into balls?
Speaker 3 (03:58):
I don't think that's a debate.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
What challenges your manhood worse? What would you be more
mad about it? And let's use the language as probably
and the cojones getting punched in the cojones or getting
spit on? What would you be more enraged by? Two
four zero five four eight zero. That's a fun question
to the day. I got a real one for you later,
but that was brought to our attention. Uh after the
game last night, there was a bit of a scuffle.
(04:20):
It was a sloppy game. Both teams played terribly. Brock
Purty looks like dog crap Jones. You know what, as
long as Brock is gonna do these lollipop balls that
he's throwing, you might as well put Mac back.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
In because give you three ards.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
He's the Jamis James James country That's that's a good
What would be a better nineteen sixties country music name? Oh,
James Jones, James Jones or Mac mac Winston though it is?
That is good?
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Yeah, Mac Winston's a pop guy, like a rock guy,
like a rock mat.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Winston absolutely at the brand old opry the rock and
he's just down a pack of Winston. Sound like Jerry
Jones's name. All right, let's get on track here. Tron
Merrick has been suspended board game. Okay, uh, the latest
on Jennings, let me get an update on him. I
don't believe there's been an announcement about Jennings who threw
the punch. Yeah, but I think the league brings him
(05:22):
into a boardroom like we have beating Steward. Maybe it
was a team's call. I guys, Roger Goodell here, I've
introduce myself on the bit. I'm the commissioner and I
think we need to give Jennings a break. He did
throw the punch, but it was the coconut, punched in
the coconuts. He got punched in the car pass. Do
you get a pass if you get punched in the.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Just give me the fine.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Why does they have to find Carolina safety that's always
all over the field with Matt Stafford coming to town
this week, because that's the Carolina way, apparently, you just
keep running your mouth there, son, Caroline's going to be
back soon, you know that's right. You just wait.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
It's been three thousand whatever days you told me yesterday since.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
You guys, it's been that many days it's been. It
may not be good this year, but you weren't even
born yet, son. Yeah, I've only known nine and eight
my entire life. You know that does kind of get
stale after a while.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Did you see what I send in the group chatter?
Speaker 1 (06:18):
I'm catching up on it.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Uh uh? It said. The Steelers either always start out
like six and one and then they have a terrible
fall off and finished nine and eight, or they start
off awful, they have a great comeback and they finished
nine and eight, and they both get bounced in the
first round, the duality of Steelers.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
It's the Rooney chapter in the script. It's this whole
book that Goodell has written. It's chapter four, The Rooney Way,
every rule, every way lash. The NFL is so unpredictable
right now, Look, I want to talk college football to
coming up in about five minutes. Facts and Children. Our
good friend from the Tiger Tailgate Show, and he does
(06:55):
a lot of radio here in the Upstate. He's also
been on ESPN doing some play by play. Oh FATX
is gonna stop and give us a preview of Look Ethan,
you're a big fan of Clemson. It's Clemson Carolina. Do
you call it the pal Metal Bull or no, yeah,
or Wolfvanvarden here to beat your ass.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Coles in Carolina. Whatever.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Van der Voark came on here a while back. It's like,
I absolutely will not call it that. It's crimeson Carolina,
Carolina Clemson.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
He was adamant closing Carolina because closing's better, So well,
that goes first.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Nobody ever says Carolina Clemson when you're the affiliate, like
you are the little brother first. Right now, I say
both ways to keep everybody happy. Faxon is gonna join
us in about five minutes. He's also a big NFL guy.
He's a huge Eagles fan, so we get to pick
apart his team a little bit as they got jerried
they went into Dallas looking for Gloria. I'm not going
(07:45):
to give you any of my glory, hole, big Dom.
You go on back to that stinky city yours, get
you a patch cheese, Dak, and you get the hell
out of Texas you're coming for you. Can Dallas catch them?
Speaker 3 (07:56):
No?
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Can they make the playoffs?
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Out cart Yeah, potentially, just didn't have that tie one.
Speaker 5 (08:03):
Dad, They're kind of right there on the tie.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
They can do it. A lot of teams right now,
we need to take a closer examination of including uh, Ethan,
my goodness, you're Houston Texans. Stroud's out again, but who cares?
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Uh he's I heard these Uh he's questionable this week.
I heard he was, but that was a couple of
hours ago, so they might.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Have Well would you start him? Would you start Davis
Mills again?
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Uh? I mean it's the Colts obviously, don't rush him back. Yeah,
but if he's healthy, you play him because this is
your season.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Ring. What if Davis Mills beats the Colts.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
What I mean, Davis Mills is already a solidified goat
because he got us the wind to beat the Colts,
actually to give us day's drouts. So Davis mill is
cool in my books.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
You know, he looks like Junior Flago. Basically, he's like
Flacco's nephew, the long neck.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
He does enough, He does enough for the defense.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Does enough? Is Demica Ryans and incredible. Oh my god.
Speaker 6 (08:56):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
We'll talk about that and much much more. Will take
your calls to zero five four eight zero, as will
untangle what was a wild weekend, not really in college football,
sort of boring weekend ultimately in the college game, but
a big one coming up this weekend college football playoff rankings.
Everybody's gonna be all mad about that tomorrow night. So
we'll indulge you if you want to tonight. That's tonight.
That's right of a day behind. You know why, because
(09:19):
I've been up all night after Monday night football finally reports.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
For iHeartRadio Monday too. It's on my Monday Square. Screwed
up Monday Square, Monday Square.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
So the college football playoff rankings come out tonight. See
if you weren't here, we would have just flopped that run. Yep,
don't interrupt the host. I'll come back and correct that.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
It's Monday, Monday.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
We're gonna go to breakdown j Max. Yep, don't correct
me on there.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Don't look at me, no eye contact. Go sit in
a baby chair. J Max got one of those tears
that clips little baby chairs that clip on the table.
That's right backs and Childress. Clemson Athletic Network Tiger Tailgate
show hosts are gonna stop on buy and set us
straight and keep us on track for sports. It's while
(10:10):
we're here on Game On, Game On with John Alice,
heard everywhere on the iHeartRadio WHI.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Shut down kids have.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Oh we're having too much fun here today on Game On,
we have Ethan Parsons in the house, linebacker for over
Stockton College coming to a football field near you again
next football season. But the season has come to it
and look, uh it's it's thanks eving break man. I'm
sure you're thankful to have some time off.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Man.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Yeah, it's nice, you know, get a break between the
season just ended last week, so yeah, I mean it's
kind of fresh, but I have a break from school
and just everything come home decompress, relax and get back
into the thing. Get back in the off season. Let
me get back.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
It's good to have you here, man, always here. Story
theory of the Ellison Bradley turkey Fry yesterday.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Man, some good turkey trade. Did not do not lie.
It's so the best trigger that.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Dont come on, doggy hey like that? Not like that?
Speaker 3 (11:39):
No, God damn it. I think I indulged in more
Krispy Kreme than I did in Turkey.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
A little turkey inside of christmal Tree donut.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
I got that.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Ellis and Bradley turkey Fry was a great success nineteenth
annual for WIST one hundred Miracle Hill. I was only
out there for about an hour. I had to go
up to Charlotte and I smell like turkey all day long.
And yeah, hooks are resting. I said it was for charity.
It's like this stands up coming out of Turay. All right,
(12:12):
let's talk sports here because that's what they pay us for,
among other things. And this gentleman joining us on the
Ingles hot line. He's a funny guy. But I'm going
to tell you something. He knows football, he knows Clemson,
he knows the college ranks. He's a huge Eagles fan,
and we're gonna talk to NFL in college with Fax
and Childer's host of the Eagles Tiger Tailgate Show, among
other ventures facts. What's going on, Bib, what's going on?
Speaker 2 (12:34):
John?
Speaker 6 (12:34):
Appreciate you guys having me on the show.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Yeah, Happy early Thanksgiving to you and the whole family. Man.
It's a good catch up this time of year. Let's
start with the team you cover nearest and dearest. Obviously
it's the Clemson Tigers. And what a strange season it's
been for so many college football programs this year. There
are a lot of reasons for that, injuries, coaching changes,
new coordinators in IL is a big factor, the portal.
(12:57):
How would you size up the second half of this season?
Obviously it was a little bit of a rough go,
to say the least at home, especially, but they've stabilized
and to win at home against Florida State and some
of these other teams, especially FSU, I think that gave
the fans something sort of at least cheer about, if
not calmed down about, because you can't keep losing at
(13:18):
home if you're Clemson.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah, that's exactly right, And I think there has been
a little bit of a stabilization effect down the stretch
which has calmed the tides to a certain degree. But
it goes without saying that losing five games in a
season at Clemson is not acceptable for what the standard
is showcased in the past decade plus under Dabosweeney's tutelage.
So you know, in totality, obviously failed to live up
(13:41):
to the hype in the preseason, failed to live up
to the expectations, and that's just the reality of the situation.
But a chance to end the season on a five
game win streak, get to eight wins with the bowl
game win and win over South Carolina, that's exciting.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
But it goes without saying that.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
You got to handle your business this weekend down in Columbia,
and that's easier said than done in a rivalry matchup
against the South caare line of team that thinks a
lot more talented than the record would indicate. So exciting
opportunities on the horizon. It's been a nice little three
game win streak to get back on track and signs
of you know, growth in the right direction for some
of the younger players.
Speaker 6 (14:12):
On this team.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Paxson Chielder's host of Ingles Tagretary did show you can
catch them, of course before the big game Clemson Carolina, Carolina, Clemson.
We call it Clemson Carolina around these parts right about now.
I don't call it the pal metal bull facts to you?
Is that something that's off limits for you? Where are
you at with that? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (14:30):
I'm not as like sensitive as some of the traditional
as are calling it the palm edable.
Speaker 6 (14:34):
I know that may before some people's.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Skin crawl, and I also know that there are certain
people that just don't care about it. I think I'm
probably somewhere in the middle, like it's not preferable, But
at the same time, I'm not going to jump down
anyone start about it.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
If that makes sense, It's on the record, okay. So
let's talk about obviously, senior Day and an emotional day
always in Clemson, and it takes on a different meeting
when you see players like obviously so many of these
guys that have gone through this program, an emotional k
club Nick obviously during that game against Firm and a
big win for Clemson, but just traditionally you've seen so
many of these guys come through on that penultimate game
(15:08):
of the regular season. How emotional of a day is
it for these guys you get to know them so
well facts covering this team, it's.
Speaker 6 (15:16):
A really emotional day.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
And you know, obviously the season hasn't necessarily gone the
way that many would have hoped or anticipated, but with
Kate club specifically, for me, that's always going to be
the quarterback that won two ACC Championship Game MVPs in
three years, the guy that got thrown into the fire
as a true freshman and was able to win you
that game on a big stage, and the guy that
took Clemson back to the College Football Playoffs.
Speaker 6 (15:36):
So I know that that's.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Probably a take that puts me in the minority of
Clemson people, but that's really the way that I'm going
to be Kate, and I think his career might age
a little bit better than the sour caase that's in
people's mouths right now. The senior class has accomplished a lot,
and obviously it's a new age and it's a new
landscape of college football, but there's still a lot of
great things that a lot of these dudes did for Clemson.
And you know, the effort ninety nine times out of
(15:59):
one hundred was there. You know, sometimes you just aren't
good enough, and I think that's what the case was this.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
Season for the Tigers.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
So it is what it is still an emotional moment
with those guys having allowed to be proud of Nonetheless, Sean.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Fact's what always intrigues me about this program. It's just
such a factory of athletes in terms of the receivers, quarterbacks,
running backs, legendary guys that are now making millions at
the pro level, and you just look at the arc
and the trajectory of it. It's going to be a
really interesting next few years. But let's reflect for a minute.
You start with Toz Boyd. Then you usher in the
(16:29):
the Deshaun Watson era, which was just full of absolute
miracle wins, including the national championship. Trevor Lawrence. It was
less dramatic. He was just an assassin man in terms
of putting games away. And then you know, we had
the Bryant era and obviously, you know Dju and I
don't want to call it the declient. These are very
good quarterbacks and Clemson was still very good. Klub Nick
obviously is moving on now. But according to the man himself,
(16:52):
it sounds like he's gonna play in a bowl game.
Is that what we should expect from him?
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yeah, that is what she should expect from Gayda, And
to be honest, that's exactly what I would expect from Kate.
Getting to know him off the field and knowing what
we know about him. I mean, the kid's a competitor,
he wants to win. He loves Clemson, and you're going
to cherish that opportunity to go out there one more
time with his brothers and compete and whatever bowl game
it may be for the Tigers. Now, whether he's playing
the entirety of the game, I think that might be
up in question. Considering what the quarterback room looks like
(17:20):
next year. Maybe this coaching staff wants some evaluation in
the second half of the bowl game. I don't know,
and I don't have any information on that, But for
the first half, I think it's safe to say that
Kate Plubnick will be playing in the bowl game for
the Tigers.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Give me a name or two on this team that
it stands out as a good story this season in
terms of performance and growth. Is the younger guys out there?
Obviously the list of names are probably endless in terms
of what you're thinking of here, But a couple of names,
maybe the mainstream college fan that doesn't follow Clemson every
day might not know about that could be a factor
for dabos program next year. Can you think of one
(17:54):
or two guys that stood out to you and made
a big impact.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
He's an NFL player and he's a little bit banged
up down the stretch, but I think Clemson has another
NFL DT on their hands with Green. He was really
impressive this year. To be honest, I think for the
majority of the season he outplayed demonte K Park, who
is a six year senior with some lofty the NFL
expectations coming back. And I was noticing ninety a lot
more than nineteen on the field and on the tape
this year for the Tigers.
Speaker 6 (18:18):
So I think that's the guy that jumps to the front.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Of my mind as far as people that have exceeded expectations.
And then you know when he actually gets thrown the.
Speaker 6 (18:26):
Ball and targeted.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Christian ben Tankerr is going to be a star for
this team at tight end. I don't really understand the
hierarchy at tight end, to be candid with you, John
Jeff Sapp and Olsen pat Henry have gotten.
Speaker 6 (18:36):
The majority of reps.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
But I think the Tigers have their hands on two
of the best tight ends they've ever had with Ben
tan Kerr and then a true freshman in Logan Brooking
who found his way into the end zone this past
year and is actually red shirting this year. So it's
going to be interesting to see how that pans out
in the future. But for one offense, one defense, I
go Ben Tankerr on offense and I go to viland
Green on defense.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Let me ask you this because I'm not as connected
to the program as I used to be, and you're
right in the middle of the hurricane. They're the eye
of it. So I don't think this answer is going
to be a yes. But I have to ask it
is Tom Allen in trouble at all with his job
or is this just a is Don Munson and I
talked about takes time to sort of get new systems,
new schemes down.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Yeah, it takes time to get new systems and new
schemes down. And I also think you have to look
at who his coaching staff is around him, right like
he inherited a coaching staff that is now having to
coach a new scheme and is having to coach under
a new coordinator. So I think that's an element of
this that people are discounting in relation to Tom Allen.
And I also think the Clemson's team speed on defense
(19:38):
this year just wasn't good enough, especially in the secondary.
And whether that's an evaluation thing, whether that's a self
scouting thing, that's a broader conversation, but the defensive players
were not good enough this year to compete at the
level that was anticipated from this unit, and I think
that was made abundantly clear very early into the season,
and the secondary specifically. I haven't been critical of Tom
(19:59):
Allen this year. The guy did not forget how to
coach on the way down from Happy Valley. I mean,
he conducted a top ten unit last year. He was
a six year power for head coach at Indiana, coach
from really darn good defensive units out in Bloomington. So
I've got a lot of respect for coach Allen, and
it's going to be interesting to see if there are
moves made on the coaching staff on the defensive side
of the ball. I would think that everyone would be
(20:20):
up for grabs Prior to Tom Hollen if that make sense, no.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Doubt about it, and I think he gets settled in
maybe year two, year three, you start seeing some of
the remnants of what Venables brought to this program in
terms of the intensity. That's what he's known for. Let's
talk about this matchup Clempston Carolina. Obviously, I don't want
to diminish the meaning of it, because there is no
diminishing of it. It's a huge game in the state
of South Carolina. It's the state championship. It's just deposed
(20:44):
against what has been going on the last couple of years,
real stakes for national championship hopes. But nonetheless, how do
you size up the game? Cocks a new coordinator in
Mike Furry. The Mike Schulo experiment obviously was a disaster.
The offensive line's been rough Sellers, Obviously we've seen what
he can do. What type of game are we looking
at her?
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Facts?
Speaker 6 (21:06):
That's gonna be ugly, if you want me to be
completely honest. So it's going to be ugly.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
I don't think this is I don't think it's gonna
be a pretty football game by any means.
Speaker 6 (21:15):
I mean, I'm thinking back.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
To twenty twenty three, where Khalil Barnes got that weird
fumble six on like the first play of the game
and then Clemson didn't score an offensive touchdown and won
the game. I don't know if it's going to be
that ugly, but it's gonna be of that vary in.
I think twenty four points wins this game one way
or another, and it's gonna be a slug fest and
a grind fest down in.
Speaker 6 (21:36):
Columbia with a lot of emotion and passion.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
I'm expecting both teams to go out there and treat
this like their super Bowl because this is the most
meaningful game of the season for both of these teams
at this juncture. And I know Clemson's going to bring
the intensity just being around the team, being around the
building throughout the course.
Speaker 6 (21:50):
Of this week.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Obviously we know what this rivalry means is you alluded
to John and then for South Carolina like you're looking
for a silver lining, You're looking for a saving grace
after the meltdown in College Station to weeks ago. What
better way to respond for coach Biemer and his staff
than get a big time rivalry went over Clemson. So
that would also make it three out of the last
five for South Carolina over Clemson if they were able
to get a win, which may indicate a pendulum shifting
(22:13):
in this rivalry moving forward. So there's a lot to
play for in this matchup, but I'm not expecting it
to be a good, quote unquote or pretty football game
by any means.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Well, I can tell you a few things about that.
I watched a game and covered a game last night
for iHeartRadio that was among the worst passing exhibitions in
the ever scene, and that would be Brush Young throwing
a lollipop to the corner of the end zone right
in the hands of a defender when he didn't need to,
and then Brock Purdy decides to just go all Jameis
Winston on us here and let his air down. I
don't want to talk about that game because, quite frankly,
(22:42):
and I'm tired of talking about it. I want to
focus in on your Eagles. I know you're a huge
Philly fan, and there are two sides that coin. The
one side that I always look to is the rational.
Let's chill out. They're a good team, they'll be there
in the end. There's something to this though this year
I'm not so worried about Aja and Jalen. I'm worried
about the offensive line in the run.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Game, yeah, one hundred percent, And you would be accurate
to be worried about that. There's been an immense regression
in the rushing attack for.
Speaker 6 (23:10):
The Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
And you know, going back to twenty twenty two, a
lot of people are comparing this to Brian Johnson's offense
in twenty twenty three. Well, I would actually like to
go all the way back to the twenty twenty one
to twenty twenty two season where the Eagles started two
to five and Nick Sirianni was on the hot seat
as a first year head coach. He gave up the
play calling duties to Shane Stiken, and then you saw
the elevation of Jalen Hurts and the ascension.
Speaker 6 (23:33):
Of him as a quarterback throughout the course of his career.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
When I'm watching this Eagles team, I feel like I'm
watching Nick Sirianni calling plays all over again. And myself
included amongst Eagles fans, have been like blaming Kevin Petulo
because he's the offensive coordinator. When Nick Sirianni hired Kevin
Patulo and he hand picked his offensive coordinator, and now
the offense looks exactly the same and blamed like it
(23:56):
did in twenty two.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
There is he's just a prop. What do you awful
at this? Sirianni and Big Dom was in on it,
like come on now, yeah, you know they know you're
gonna take the fall of this, but it looks like
a Sirianni offense. It really it's it's bland the route
concepts or high school level, and you know there's not
much you can do with that if you're not pounding
the rock like psychos and Stotland's group has just been
(24:21):
a cut below this year, so I don't worry about them.
Their defense is outstanding and Dallas got hot at the
right time. That was a weird game the other day.
You got to finish those teams off twenty one nothing
with that d should have been enough. But obviously the
offense needs to push a little harder. Do you think Dallas?
I mean, I know this is a team you don't
think fondly of, but have they found something here? I
(24:43):
know we all lampoon them at the beginning of the season.
Can they make a run at a wild card? Or
is it kind of a mirage right now, Where are
you at with Dallas?
Speaker 2 (24:52):
I mean, I think they can make a run at
a wildcard. I think Prescott's one of the more underrated
players in football, and like I feel like I do
a pretty good job of taking emotion out of NFL.
Speaker 6 (25:00):
Take specifically, I think Dak Grek got a lot better
than Jalen Hurts.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Just to be completely honest, I think the Eagles would
run away with the super Bowl with Dak Prescott instead
of Jalen Hurts. I think he's one of the best
quarterbacks in football. I think Dickens has found a nice
niche where he's not able to get bracketed as frequently
because he's lining up adjacent to CD Lamb, who I
think is the top five to seven guy in the
league at his position a wide receivers, so.
Speaker 6 (25:22):
Shot, he's doing a really good job with that offense.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Jerry Jones made a couple of underrated moves at the
deadline to bolster the defense. I could see Dallas Backdoring
into the wildcard round for sure, but I don't think
there's enough legitimacy there to make like a playoff run
or anything.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Now watch it happen this way. This is how it
goes in this league. This is where Dak will shine.
They'll sneak in the back door of the playoffs at
like eight eight and one or what the hell it is,
and Dak will go on this generational three game run
and then they'll meet with Fielding get beat the championship game.
That's the kind of year it's been. Fact, can you
remember an NFL season so unpredictable and full of questions?
(25:57):
At the Thanksgiving break? Because I'm looking around the division,
the conference leaders, I have zero confidence that any of
these teams can go the distance because they haven't done
it recently. But it doesn't mean they can't.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
Yeah, I think, to be honest with you, the only
team in the league right now that I feel super
confident in is the Los Angeles Rams. But even then,
there's the million dollar question of can Stafford continue to
stay healthy throughout the course of the season.
Speaker 6 (26:22):
And I hate to ask it, but.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
The guy's ancient with a really bad back and a
really intricate.
Speaker 6 (26:27):
History of being hurt these last couple of seasons.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
Outside of them, Darnold's got his questions with the Seahawks.
The AFC's got like eight different teams I could.
Speaker 6 (26:35):
See winning it.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
This NFL season has been awesome and there's been a
ton of parody throughout the league, and I think a
part of that is the Chiefs looking more mortal than
they typically do, combined with Lamar's injury putting the Ravens
behind the eight ball, and then the Bill's supporting cast
around Josh Allen just is not very good, to be
completely honest with you.
Speaker 6 (26:51):
So there's like.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
Probably eight to ten teams that I could see winning
the Super Bowl right now, and I'm never in that
camp when it comes to thanksgivings you alluded to, John,
I'm really excited to just see how it all unfolds.
But in their current state, I can tell you my
Eagles are not winning the Super Bowl. With the highest
three and outrate in NFL history.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
That was an amazing stat. I think it's an interesting
dichotomy with the Tush Push and they're able to get
into a three two yard window and get those, but overall,
they don't have the explosion in the offense to keep
the chains moving when they're not in Tush PUSH's zone,
in the Tush Push friend zone as we call it.
Last question about that, what is your objective thoughts on
(27:29):
the play itself as an Eagles fan, as an analyst,
I get the sense that there's some momentum in wanting
it to be gone. Just because some owners want it
gone doesn't mean it's going to go away. Like Dan
Campbell said, I support it. We can't shop. But usharp problem.
It's what he said, do you think it goes away eventually?
You think it goes away next year? And do you
want it to go away?
Speaker 2 (27:50):
I don't want it to go away, And to be honest,
it doesn't really.
Speaker 6 (27:53):
Have anything to do with the fact that I'm an
Eagles fan.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
I just like man up and stop it right, or
play better defense on first and second down. The competitor
in me thinks it's really really weak minded that the
majority of the league seemingly is pushing to ban a
play in a short yardage situation that's technically been legal
in football for a long long time now. So there's
been different variations of it throughout the course of the
(28:16):
history of the game at different levels, and obviously the
Eagles are executing it at a higher level than anybody
else ever has. But this fake safety plant that was
tried to introduce last year to get it banned really
just frustrated me because at that point you're just looking
for reasons to try and ban it because people can't
stop it. So maybe there's a little bias bleeding through
as an Eagles fan, But to be honest with you,
(28:38):
other teams have the ability to run this play. There
is nothing saying that the other thirty one teams in
the National Football League can't line up and run the
exact same formation and do the exact same thing in
that down and distance. So my response to the people
that want it banned would be, don't let the Eagles
get in third and two or third and one and
play better defense on first and second down, and you
won't have the issue.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
I love it. Figure out how to do it yourselves.
Quit picking on us. Trey and I have often said,
in the honor of Mike Leach, who said he once
wanted a dwarf on his team to lift them up
and throw him over the line, that they should be
the Bryce flight, that we should get Tommy Tremble up
behind Plece and just pick the little boy up and
throw them over the line. Good job, little buddy. I
(29:18):
still have faith in Bryce Man and I'm just gonna
leave it at that. But you've got a big show
coming up this weekend with the whole Gang Ingles Tiger
Tailgate Show and a lot of other things going on.
It's Facts and Childress. Facts. Thanks for stopping by talking
some ball with this man. Good luck to you guys
this weekend. And I guess go Tigers, and then I'll
say go Gang Cox after the breaks.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
Yes, save that for after the break And John, I'm
right there with you.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
I'm not giving up on b y nine just Yetive
give him till the end of the year.
Speaker 6 (29:44):
Let's see how it plays out.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
I'm with you, man, Facts be well. We'll see if
Fax and Childress comes to Athletic Network, Ingles Tiger Tailgate Show.
That's awesome. Second generation guy too. Mark and I do
the show together for years with Rich and yeah yeah,
Facts would always pop in and h you know, hang
out with his pop and and and do a segment
with us. And I'm happy for him. Man, he's a
good dude. Let's hit a break, we'll come back. We
(30:06):
got Ethan Parsons in studio. Uh, We're gonna get his
take on some of these NFL teams. We'll rene in
the league and see what storylines uh stick out to
us in terms of the teams at the top of
the division, top of the conference that are sort of
on fraud alert right now. We got to figure this out. Guys.
We're almost in Thanksgiving. We have no idea. Who's what
the rams about? The only team I can week out
(30:27):
and go. I think I think I know who they are.
I don't know for sure about the Bills, and I
certainly don't know for sure about like the Patriots, as
good as they been.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
I know I know something. I know the Raiders suck.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Well, now you're breaking news. I want to confirm those
allegations their ass. I'm gonna keep it a buck, keep it.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
I'm gonna keep.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
With John alis Here's buck number one. One buck goes
to you.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
Boo boo.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
We're gonna keep it a buck with the rain, Stephen
Ah Steven alis here. No, the Raiders are so bad.
How about all they have? They're so bad. They're part
and brock bowers out wide against good corners. Uh, they
have nothing to throw to on the perimeter at Ashton
(31:18):
can't catch a football either. You get that Mike Myers
thing going on. Gino's cooked. Pete is like eighty years
old out there. Just ride with Biden. Yess, that's as
much talk as we're gonna do. And then the owner's
got the uh, you know, Lloyd Christmas haircut, you know,
the old bull cut. And then Tom Brady's up there
(31:39):
and a tuxedo, basically calling plays. It's a hot mess,
and they suck. It's the Raiders. It's the Raiders. We'll
come back and talk about other teams that suck and
are good. Right here in game one, this is game
on on what O four nine Fox Sports up State.
(32:02):
Get in on the show at two sorts zero fifty
four or hit us.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
Up on Twitter at one O four nine Fox Sports.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Salt label Kish.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
Rage us miss So what.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
Is this time?
Speaker 1 (32:54):
Still sims just the.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
Tua, Yes, sir.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Came on brought to you by Ingles Markets, low prices,
love the savings. I would call this like a chill Tuesday, like.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
The energy is good here to do Monday Square, it's
you know, it's Thanksgiving week, It's Monday Square.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
It's q Neil. All my friends that work in offices,
I'm sure that they're coasting. They're coasting down the stretch here.
It's a short week. Why can't we do that? Why
are we held to a different standard. Come on in
and bring the energy.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
John, we talked sports.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Now it's gonna be low energy. I would not low Tuesday.
TE Tuesday. It's right, just walk out of the gym.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
Hi T Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
Let's go T Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
That's scot energy.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
Ethan Parsons is here. Ethan works with us at iHeart,
but he's also a college football player, which is pretty cool.
And it was good to see it at the Turkey Fry,
my friend. It was a big crowd there this year.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
It was a fresh crowd.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Elson Bradley Turkey for a nineteenth Daniel version of that.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
I'm twenty what what? That's that's been going on as
long as I've been alive.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
That's hilarious. Thank you for the break. I want to
make sure we got that in and then making thank you.
Thank you a great job by Ellison Bradley with the
one and our friends at Miracle. Heell anything else you
when I add in the middle of a read, no,
I'm good. Were you twenty or nineteen? Where were you born?
(34:31):
What's your favorite color? Did you ever have a favorite blanky? Yeah?
I did?
Speaker 5 (34:35):
What was your favorite Capri sunflavor. I wanted all about your.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
Life fruit punch. And I did have a food blanket.
It was a football blanket. Nice jokes on you the
name for it. No, I was just my blankets. Not
going to go down that road.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Two four zero five four eight zero hammer Turkey? Where
are we at with that? Both? Yes, depends on the boy.
If it's that deep front turkey from the Turkey for
I'm taking turkey, but it's just a regular turkey out
of the eleven. Give me the ham all day, Give
me the ham all day. Right, Yeah, some people are
weird about turkey, like they they just I won't touch it.
I can't do turkey like why Turkey did? Yeah? Turkey
(35:18):
and old Bravy on it there.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Some people have Turkey Day.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
You like him? Are you crazy? Like a commercial?
Speaker 3 (35:24):
There?
Speaker 1 (35:27):
New voiceover, look at this kid's get game on.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
Don Ellis rambles for two hours about absolutely nothing.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
God marked that we have breaking news here. It's a
bit of a slow news day. We're gonna get into
some NFL playoff picture scenarios here, but uh, this is
kind of interesting.
Speaker 4 (35:44):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
Trevon Merrick, who's kind of a safety hybrid linebacker for
the Panthers. Very good player. He has been suspended for
one game without pay as last night at the end
of the game, really sort of a selfish act on
his part. He uh, he got into a fight with
Jawan Jennings. Jennings had punched him, but notes to the
league at the time, Well, Jennings was punched between the
(36:05):
legs basically in the Gonads by Marrik. I've never seen
another man do that to another man on a foot,
have you ever? Is that like in a pile in
a people grabbing everything right?
Speaker 3 (36:17):
The pile is bad, the pile is brutal, But.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Nobody's ever gone up and just punched somebody right between
the legs, just like that, out of the pile. What
was that to have with Clemson a few years ago?
Speaker 3 (36:27):
I don't even know Christi Wilkins.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Oh yeah, game, Yes, some dirty deeds happening down there
at the bottom of the pile.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
Christian wilk my goat man.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
Christian Wilkins is the hilarious dude, great player, He's an oddball.
Marrek is going to be out for the game against
the Rams. That's fantastic, great good job. What you need
against that was really important that you had to punch
him in the gonads and get suspended. Because I knew
right when that happened. I said, they're cutting down on
this sportsmanship. Crap, oh gosh, here we go. And of
(36:56):
course every chef McAfee was ram we just can't have this,
Some like Pat, why don't you just stay out of
the tanning bed for one day and stop talking about
my team? Uh Merrek will be suspended. He's getting an
appeal on this Tomorrow. We'll find out if they lift that.
But this is pretty unprecedented and it's not a good look.
So what the Panthers have done is they have signed
(37:18):
a Clemson player, a former him, and I'm gonna I'm
gonna let Ethan guess who it is. He probably his phone, maybe, Okay,
thinking think in terms of a replacement plan for a
guy who's like a safety linebacker hybrid. Who would you
bring in this kind of a deal. Bad, Yeah, you
would be Tanner mused Isaiah Simmons.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
I forgot, I forgot cut bounced around a little bit.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
He may not even play this weekend, but they bring
him in for insurance and he gets to link up
with Hunter Renfro. That's how they treat Clemson players for
the Panthers. We'll bring two in a year, and you're
on the practice squad. Go sit over there and I'll
cut you. That's where a gamecock bias. J C. Horn.
J C. Horn is him.
Speaker 5 (38:03):
You gotta admit, come on now, Okay, that's fine.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
But you got it? Did you see?
Speaker 3 (38:09):
That was nasty? It was like the one of the
last things I saw before I know, I snoozed off.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
And that's how bad the play calling with Canalis was.
Rico Dwell has been a machine. Like six carries in
the game. They threw it thirty times and they were
only down by seven. So we asked Canalis about that
in the presser today. I I didn't go down that
road because I didn't want to, like upset him. I
let the dirty guys do that, Mike ca Joe person,
(38:38):
because what's he gonna say. He actually came out and
addressed it before the questions came out, said, you know,
we've got to approach some things differently, this and that. Bryce.
You know, look, he's been exceptional times. I think what
they're doing to him right now is testing him in
every facet that they can test him against. These great
teams to see, look, can you go on the road
(38:59):
to San Francisco and can you take this playbook and
carry us. I don't hope that's the approach. I hope
they're going for the playoffs and not for evaluations, right,
because this is not the time to start tinkering to
see if prices him. You're six and six, you're in
the wildcard, good spot. You're in the division race with
Baker over there with a sling in his arm, and
he might miss a game or two. He might not,
(39:19):
but Carolina is a good team. They just they've got
to figure some things out with the way they operate
their offense. They were doing so well when they were
running Rico twenty thirty times a game, and then they've
got a little cute there in that game got beat
by New Orleans a couple of weeks ago. I was
at that game, Ethan. That was miserable the game. Yeah,
I was awful. It was awful.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
Yeah, that division is walky, it's af.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
What about Baker? Huh? Well, I mean, what do you like?
What about that hill now that hil Mary at the
end where we heard his shoulder, do you think that
was Baker like going rogue and saying I'm doing this.
Do you think boltsen him out there to do it?
That is a seventy yard pass. I don't care.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
I think they were just kind of or whatever. Begger
don't care. You know, beggars don't play.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
But his shoulder.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
Yeah, he played a season on a torn labor pretty
much should.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
Man, he's in a slang. Come on, Yeah, I have
a feeling I have a conspiracy about this. The game
was still out of hand. The whole thing was a fake,
fake poll said go down, We're gonna sing on you.
Get everybody's hopes up to your hurt. Psychological warfare.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
I mean, they played a pretty favorable schedule the rest
of the way, but their entire.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
Offense the Panthers twice, watch your mouth.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
That's favorable for a reason.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
We'll see.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
Look, one game, you guys will look amazing, and the
other game you look terrible.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
It looks a little bit like your team looks like
every team.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
We were terrible for four games and then we've been
We were okay for like three games, and then we've
been good last two years. See what that's what you
call progression? Like your guys's teams, your guys, teams where
you're just progressing digress every week, and then you know
I want you to of course, you know, mister Wallnut's.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
Just mister Walden. Well, my team's progressing to progressively sick,
progressively degressive, all right, So just make sure you've got
my number on your phone, right. I want you to
give me a call when your team makes a Super Bowl,
and when they make their second Super Bowl, give me
a call again.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
Okay, And how many super Bowls are they won? Its
zero zero, right, that's all that matters.
Speaker 5 (41:21):
No champion hip ring for winning your conference.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
You wouldn't wear that thing around, would you know? Some
players with the Panthers and some of them just have
them sitting in a shoe box in the room. Gotta
be kind of like one ring.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
It's like if you if you win the super Bowl,
then maybe you have it out. Well, if you like
both of them.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
If you like Stephen Davis or like Deshan Foster, like
Steve Smith, and you're wearing that thing around you see
straighthand with two of them, the big boys like, oh
that's cute. Yeah, and then Steve Smith would punch him
out and assault it.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
Probably crazy, man. I don't know if he assault him
very successfully though.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
Well I count Steve Smith. No, Smith could fight anybody
and beat their ass. That's he's the US maultimate underdog.
They got to get the ball Rico dowbtle more and
they've got to start figuring out how they're going to
get a pass rush in the last ten quarters, which
is amazing because their defense has played well incredible.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
Yeah, they haven't had seven is not the best.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
Derek Brown's good. They don't have anybody in the edge
right now.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
They've got nobody else's it's literally just calment from not
keeping Brian Burns.
Speaker 1 (42:26):
But we'll see, here's the counterpoint to that with with
getting rid of Burns and where is Burns now and
what's their record?
Speaker 3 (42:33):
Yeah, but he isn't either sack leader and he's not
the reason.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
What's he's not. He's not sucking the air out of
the team, but he is a huge liability price wise. Yeah,
and you know, well Dave Bawl, Yes, they sucked all
the records he had to fill back up to that
two ninety way clip. Yeah, all right, we'll come back.
We'll talk a little bit about the NFL standings. What's
going on and a few injury updates around the league.
(42:57):
You think Jameis Winston can go start somewhere else?
Speaker 3 (43:03):
What we said all time? Starting quarterback. We were talking
about this with Aaron yesterday.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Will he get the ultimate shot though? Like? Is he
at that level like a Gino or a Baker Sam.
I think he's started with Pittsburgh, You really would.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
I think he'll just bounce around the rest of his
league or last of his career. Be the ultimate vibes guy,
come in and play when you need him to.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
What what if today I could tell you Aaron Rodgers
is coming back next year. Cool, Give me Jameis Winston,
but I would take the same price, same price, give.
Speaker 3 (43:29):
Me James James wants or Mason Rudolph or.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
David Wentz is fun. Aaron Rodgers is cranky, He's mad
as long as you're gonna suck. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
No, Actually, I don't want him in Pittsburgh because Pittsburgh
will ruined Jamis. And if they ruined Jamis, I'll have
a problem with them officially. Maybe Davis and then me
and mister Waller that will have to fight.
Speaker 1 (43:46):
Maybe Davis Mills is that new guy. He might play
his way into a starting opportunity somewhere, somewhere,
