Speaker 1 (00:00):
Act for Sure Stadium. We even nicknamed for the citium
in Kinesfield. It's the unhappy hour here caught. It took
jay Z seven years to become an overnight sensation. I
mean opponents are running through them like skyline chill. Why
are you?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
I don't understand Edmunds Tinkle tavel.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
This is actually going over the air.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
It is.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Yeah, I love that car foot it. Let's go to work.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Then that's fun.

Are we still coasting on it. I've seen it a
couple of times.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
Absolutely, and yes it's all black, gold and processed blue
as far as the eye can see.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
You know, I'm winning Rome. He's going to be Roman.
Call us.
Speaker 5 (00:56):
Let's fight about it. It's they're on call two four
zero fifty four eight. Naw, here's John Ls and Trey
Polly Walnut's falcon.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Well, it's like a Friday. It's just happening in the
middle of the week. It's a happy pre Thanksgiving day
for us here at Fox Sports Upstate. We're fighting humph Well, yes,
the hump has been flattened. Indeed, yes, absolutely. Shout out
to Richmond Weaver, how y'all doing out there, John Let's tray,
Pauli Walnut's falco. As this will be the final show
(01:27):
of our week. Our fine bosses have given us the
rest of the week off to spend some time with
family and friends, and we can't wait to see everybody
that means the most to us. And we're including you
guys in that mix as well. We want you to
call us here eight six four two four zero five
four eight zero as we're getting ready for a big
and I sue Turkey Day is going to be huge
(01:48):
as always. Oh yeah, the foods, the fix and fixings.
I'm not going to clean up those fixings, my fixens.
Please find that club. Oh I'm gonna I'm gonna find it.
You're gonna find it. One of us will find it.
A lot to look forward to in terms of family
and friendship and fellowship, but a lot to look forward
to with sports it's going to be a dynamic weekend
(02:12):
of games. It's rivalry week maybe, and no matter what
the records are, teams do not like one another. That's
a mainstay. Oh yeah, joining us in fifteen minutes, not
a rival of ours whatsoever. He's like family the Donald
Sports Talk. Don Munson's gonna stop by, yeah, man Dapperdn's
gonna talk to us about Clemson, Carolina and all that
(02:33):
it entails. I want to get a history lesson on
this series as well, some old memories he has of
some of the great games in this series. History. We
had Facts and Childress on yesterday and he was he's
forecasting a slop fest, like just a game where it's
gonna be rock fight Yeah, rock fight Yeah. One of
those old school thirteen to ten type of games. But
(02:56):
we will see. Boy, we get some big games on
this weekend. Miami, Pittsburgh, Ihiowa State, Michigan always big, Texas, Texas,
A and m Georgia and Georgia Tech Hasm, Intrigue all
the Sudden once again, and many more games to go through.
In the college football ranks and in the NFL, I mean,
that's front and center on this show. We've already moved
on from Monday night. That was a fever dream of
(03:18):
a bad game. I don't know what, you know what,
I don't even remember either. I just remember being in
Charlotte doing this show, doing the tailgate to Git time
with our good friend e White and Polly was on
that show as well. Everything was so good, the vibes
were one hundred percent positive and then no, there was
a slow drip of misery as Carolina lost twenty to nine. Ah, yes,
(03:41):
that was That was absolutely our house that night. We
do have a big question of the day. It's brought
to you by Ingles Markets. It's a thematic question, of course,
whom are you most thankful for in the world of
sports this year? Two four zero five four eight zero
is the number scataboo?
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Do you turn your turkey for you?
Speaker 1 (04:04):
You turn the sweet potato pie to you four years?
Or do you submit to the stuffing? I don't know,
stuffing or dressing? What do you oprefer two four zero
five for eight zero? That's right. If you're up north,
you call it dressing, right.
Speaker 6 (04:22):
I think so?
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
We had Ernie on in the last show.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
He's from Vermont and was going to the intricacies of
stuffing versus dressing.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Do you have the trade?
Speaker 6 (04:29):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Most of my dad's his in laws are from Ohio
and up north. Yeah, it's it tastes delicious, but it's different.
It's it's got a little I think it's a little
more oniony. Yeah yeah, but you know, I don't care.
I'll eat anything. I love everything. It's food so good.
We're gonna do if we have time today, because you
know how this show just flies by a Turkey day
(04:53):
meal draft. That's right, I've got the image, that's right.
We got five categories, the main course, the meat, we
got meat, we got your favorite potato dish, we got
three sexually two sides, and then your desertive choice. Oh yeah,
and in studio with us. Look who it is? Oh man?
Oh what cotton over there? JB. Brown? How you doing, brother?
Speaker 6 (05:16):
Good?
Speaker 1 (05:16):
How are you? We are doing great? Thanks for coming
by today on a Wednesday, man, JB. As y'all know
he was in with his last week. Oh yeah, and
he is with among other projects. It's a Blue Ridge
High School does play by play for many of their
sporting events and has a coaching background. Has a ton
of great notes. I love this binder you have, You've
got the NFL stickers on it.
Speaker 6 (05:35):
Man, it's fantasy football. Look at that book.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
That is crazy nice. You can tell this guy was
a former coach because he's carrying this thing around like
a game plan. But yeah, yes, yeah, he is got
the game.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
TI.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
How many leagues are you in right now?
Speaker 6 (05:47):
Five?
Speaker 1 (05:48):
That's right, I'm one.
Speaker 6 (05:50):
There's five tabs in there, two for every league too.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
So you have Jamior gibbsonwhere in that binder?
Speaker 6 (05:54):
No, I don't.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
I had him last week fifty five points pennies from Manna.
I couldn't believe it.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
I'm gonna give you a pro tip right now. You
need to set your defense because we're going u against
each other.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
I'm helping you out. I just did earlier. Okay, good.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
I looked at my roster and I said, oh boy,
paulways got me beat already. No, I figured out the good.
I put Bryce Young on the bench too. I took
care of that. Bryce has got to figure out how
to not do what he did on Monday night. We'll
talk more about the Panthers as Rico Dawdle I was
on the Zoom Call yesterday with Dave Canalis. Dave stepped
up and does what he always does. He's very accountable
(06:27):
for what happened in that game. I kept the questions
more to around his connections with the Rams. He knows
McVeigh a little bit. This staff comes from the Rams tree,
especially on defense. But a lot of people were asking
him about Rico o'dowdele, who posted a very cryptic tweet
the other day with sort of a confused face emoji. Right,
I don't think you have to read between the lines. No,
(06:49):
he was pretty much saying why did I only get
six carries in a game that was one score for
three and a half quarters and can Alice open up
the press conference? It was funny he opened the press
conference with a state instead of like taking the questions
about why are you not running Rico? But for about
twenty seconds nobody could hear him because he was on mute.
So somebody finally spoiled I think it was Joe Persis said, couch,
(07:12):
you're on mute. So we had a good laugh about it.
But apparently today Rico dawdle did meet with Dave Canalies.
He met with the team as well, and it wasn't
to apologize for anything. It was more of just like, hey,
we all need to be better, do better. Yeah yeah,
And I think in this game playing the Rams Sunday,
you think the forty nine ers were tough. Yeah. I
(07:34):
looked up with stat earlier and if you're on hold,
stay on hold. Here's what gives Carolina some hope to
stay competitive in this game. Number one, did you know
the Rams all time as good as they are right
now all time since twenty twenty that's when Stafford got there.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Yea.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Their record in games I'm being a little bit of
a weatherman here. After Week ten it's outdoors and it's rainy,
they're one and two in those games. They've only had
three games played. Shav's over their last met beet for
any advantage lost to Seattle Luminfield back in twenty twenty two.
They lost to Baltimore on the road in the rain
in twenty twenty three. They struggled last year against the
(08:11):
forty nine ers in the rain, and also when it's
blow fifty degrees, they're zero and two since twenty twenty.
They don't play outdoors a lot.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Yeah, so come on, weather the twelfth Man. There's one thing.
All those other teams have in common.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
They are not the Carolina pod, the championship caliber.
Speaker 6 (08:27):
I was trying to be nat so those things are
really good.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Tamy, I'm trying. I know the weather forecast right now
calls for forty five and rain in Charlotte. I don't
expect them to win this game. We're gonna do our
pick thems later. I'm not picking Carolina. Okay, there's no
way I'm gonna pick them. But this is a critical
moment that if you want to slow this game down
at all, if you want to make it a rock
fighter's you say, yeah, yeah, Rico and Chewba Hubber need
(08:50):
to have about forty carries combined. Yes, they need to
quit worrying about if they are worried about evaluating Bryce
Young and making him into the next Joe Montana, the
damn ball, be good in the trenches and take away
Kyraen Williams.
Speaker 6 (09:04):
In Chicago look at him.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
That's that's what you do, then, Carolina, Carolina, that was
the formula could do it. They just stopped doing it
all of a sudden, and the forty nine Ers game
was the most glaring of them because it was the
way forward on the road to be at your best. J. C.
Horn picked off brock Perty twice, Mike Jackson three picks
in three consecutive series. You got to win that. You
(09:27):
know how many times that's happened in Panthers history. I'll
give you a guess. It's less than one and you
get three points. Jb Off of three turnovers. Geez, let's
do some more, mad. That's one point per takeaway. That's horrible.
Speaker 6 (09:40):
That's not going to win you football games.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
No, and Bryce Young, they call on first and goal
at the one yard line, a little roll out to
the right, he goes it right to the dB. Just
hand it to Rico. He had six carries in that game.
Faed him six carries. He's your most dynamic offensive player.
You gotta feed him. But he spoke to Day to
the media, he sounds like he's okay, nobody's fighting. The
(10:02):
team is fine. They're just a five hundred team. That's right, right.
Fans they think got really really excited when they went
on that run. And you get closer to the playoffs
and they can still do it. But you've got to
see what you're made of against the Rams. It's not
just about wins and losses, right, now when you're building
it to what's hopefully a playoff perennial contender, let's measure
(10:23):
up and see where you stand. The only problem is
JC horn concussion protocol probably numbers the game. Trevon Merrick
and another type of incident where twigging berries were involved.
He's appealing his suspension. If he does not win that appeal,
and I doubt he does, he'll be out for this
game as well. But and you know, maybe Rico we'll
get some carries. We'll see. Let's go out to the
Engles hotline. Welcome into game on. How you doing.
Speaker 7 (10:47):
I watch you guys, How you doing doing well?
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Man? Who we got here?
Speaker 7 (10:51):
Dodger Blue?
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Oh, Dodger Blue. Man, it's been a while. How you doing, buddy?
Congrats on another ring for your Dodgers.
Speaker 7 (10:58):
My friend, I heard the Dynasty's there you were talking
about my Rams. I was at the game last year
in San Francisco. But we won the game. That's all
that matters.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
All that matter. I have a zero confidence that the
Rams will lose this game is and that's not a
knock on Carolina. I think the Rams are the best
team in football right now.
Speaker 7 (11:20):
They're so good, well, I got a very high expectation
of them. They playing like champions. But you know, you
gotta you gotta take them one game at a time
and you'll see from there. And uh, but right now
I feel good about this team. I felt that way
all year. Uh we should actually, guys, we should be
(11:41):
undefeated because we we messed up the the what they
call it the field goaling, and and and we missed
the field goal against San Francisco. So you know, it's
it's it's uh, it's pretty interesting right now. L A
said in baseball and football, and looks like the Lakers
(12:03):
are trying to get back.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
So but New York, You're You're thousands of miles away,
New York. Meanwhile, all they can celebrate is how funny
their players are. Yeah, yeah, literally scataboo dark.
Speaker 7 (12:15):
Listen, listen to this though. I heard Billy yesterday talking about,
uh he thinks Seattle is villa than the than the Rams.
And and you know my answer to that is that
no one cares how good you are. The final score
was around one by two points, right, you don't remember
how good you played. They remember who won the game.
(12:36):
So you know that that's that's a good detense divisional battle.
But see that we have one thing that Seattle don't have.
We have Matthew Stafford. Yeah, they have Sam Donald and
that that's where the game was won and lost right there.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Well and Stafford in a playoff environment, and you guys
can chine it as well.
Speaker 8 (12:56):
JB.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Tray, I don't trust him any less than any QB
in the league, and I certainly trust him more than
Sam Donald. Not dimensioned, and I don't disagree that with
Billy that Seattle is an exceptional football team. They'll be
in the playoffs. There'll be a threat to teams out there.
But Chris Shuler, the defensive coordinator for the Rams, is
Sam Donald's worst nightmare. He Sam cannot manage what they
(13:20):
throw at him.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
It's like the last year in Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Yeah, plo layoffs last year too. It's the worst possible
setup in terms of interior pressure. I'm gonna tell some
guys like Emmanuel Forbes playing for the Rams, they salvaged
a career for him. He was not good in Washington.
Speaker 7 (13:39):
That guy. That guy he came in and solidified all
the secondary because that was our weak point at the
beginning of the year. And I was afraid of that
at the beginning of the year. Now it's turning out
turning out to be a strong point. This guy Durant,
number fourteen. You know, he played school at South Carolina State,
(14:01):
you know, and uh and I went, I went. I
went out to l A. When it was two years ago.
I met his mother at at at the hotel. You know,
I was you know how you be coming down to
the elevator and you're in the lobby and I was
introduced with tour and we took pictures. And you know,
because I'm a big round fan, guys, I go all
(14:24):
I travel with them sometimes. But you know, I just
love my l A teams. I love listening to you guys.
You keep me laughing half the time we try. You know,
I know Billy is a good guy. You got a
couple of calls that I that.
Speaker 9 (14:38):
I know of and heard him over the years.
Speaker 7 (14:41):
And you know, of course, guys, I don't I'm getting
old now, so kind of like and I say this
getting old as hell, guys, you.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Feeling you see it, and you feeling there's no denying it.
Speaker 7 (14:56):
I'm not young. It's not used to me, you know.
Well anyway, I I try to make things that I
can make, and hopefully I'll come and see you guys
at Engles one of these ways I'm free of something.
But listen, every Thanksgiving, guys, I'm I'm fresh off of
making twenty one sweet potato pies for my family.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Oh my goodness, Dodger Blue, come on, madoxtra.
Speaker 7 (15:22):
The story behind that. My mother used to She's she's
one of eleven kids and on Thanksgiving. This is the
thing about families, and I wish a lot of families
would do these these days. We have a big feast
where everybody brings whatever. You're starting to bring something for
the family. You know, people make the turkeys and chicken
(15:44):
macaroni and soda ramp so so with me. My mom
used to make sweet potato pies. I started out with ten.
Now I'm up to twenty two.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Lord man, the growing growth right there.
Speaker 7 (15:56):
So I finished. I finished up today. I started, yes today,
and I'll finish and now I'm out delivering them. So
God bless you, man, Hey, God bless you guys, and
have thank for be blessed.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Yeah, Kevil, Dodger Blue, I bet he's thankful. I did
you ask him who he's thankful for? In the world
of sports, and he sounds like he's thankful for us.
We appreciate it autly. We're very honored to hear that.
We're also guessing that he's thankful for Matthew Stafford, a
guy who's getting older too. But boys, he's turned back
the clock. The physique is better, yea. And he is
(16:31):
playing at a higher level right now then he's played
throughout his career, entire career, and I would argue that
the football he's playing right now, when you look at
Ram's history, it rivals that of Kurt Warner when Kurt
was there from ninety nine to one. In his prime,
Kurt was the MVP of the league in one. You're
talking about thirty intercept or thirty touchdowns and two interceptions
(16:54):
all year. That's efficiency, But last seven games, like I
think it's twenty three touchdowns, no pay like you're hopeless
at certain point. The way you at least stay close
with them is you run the ball, control the clock.
That's what Seattle did. And you don't put four interceptions.
Yeah that is Bryce had two on Monday night. That
(17:15):
we're critical. We'll talk about all the NFL teams in
our weekly pick them and we'll talk about your Thanksgiving feast.
How would we draft a Thanksgiving meal? We'll do that.
But coming up next Don months and Clemson Athletic Network's
going to stop on by give us a full preview
of Clemson Carolina as well as some memories he has
of this rivalry from years gone by. Happy early Turkey Day,
(17:36):
here on Game on.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
This is game on on one O four nine Fox
Orts sustin.
Speaker 10 (18:02):
I've gotten my spine, I've gotten my.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Oh Boys, Thanksgiving eves. Baby, got last minute needs? Go
to Ingles Markets, low prices, love the savings. I'm stocking
the shelves NonStop. I'm sure if you haven't already got
your tailgate needs for the weekend, Ingles has you covered.
Low prices, love the savings, and boy, it's going to
be a weekend. Of course, you've got the NFL front
and center tomorrow and for a Black Friday game, but
(18:31):
also some college games featured throughout the entire extended weekend.
And there's never a game that draws more attention and
more good old fashioned just demon behavior, just hatred, pure hatred.
But we can shake hands at the end of the
day after that hatred. Clinton Carolina's this weekend, y'all, I
don't care what the records are, throw it out the window.
(18:51):
Joining us now to break down that game and some
memories of this rivalry. Our dear friend who we are
eternally thankful for. Don Month's don happy early Thanksgiving, sir.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Thank you, big cat fruit loops. Good to speak with
the both of you. I appreciate you having me.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
On always, man, thanks you for making time before what's
going to be a big weekend for you in the
entire program. Obviously, this season is what it is, it
has been what it has been for these teams. But
you throw the records out when Clemson and Carolina take
each other on every single year. I want to start though,
by asking you our big question of the day. If
you can think back to all the years you've done
(19:27):
sports and you followed sports. It can be an athlete,
a colleague. Who in the world of sports are you
most thankful for?
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Well, I would say you as a kid, my first,
my first sports guy that I was really hyped up with.
And remember I was born in Atlanta in nineteen sixty two,
so when the Braves moved there, I was a Joe
Tory guy, huge Joe Tory guy. I mean, I love
me from Joe Tory, so he would certainly be be
(19:55):
on the list. But if I had to pick one gume,
I would probably take the Golden Beer. Jack Nicholas. Uh,
he was, he was, He was the man as far
as as far as I was concerned. I played, Uh uh,
I played a lot of you know, junior golf and
then high school golf, collegiate golf and that kind of stuff,
and uh still tinker with it to this day. But
(20:16):
Jack Nicholas would be my guy.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Did you find yourself emulating his move at all? Because
I did the same thing?
Speaker 3 (20:21):
You know, I will I will tell you I don't
think that I think that that that you should. I
think that you should find a golfer that's kind of
your stature and and your size, and why wouldn't you
mimic the best that's ever been? I mean, why wouldn't
you mimic that? So, yeah, my swing was a little
more upright kind of you know, kind of like his,
and I kind of cocked the head a little bit,
(20:43):
you know, uh, all that kind of stuff, A big
big reverse c you know kind of guy when you
drive your weight through and uh, the left heel was
coming up, the left heel was stamping down to kind
of start the whole flow of things. But yeah, absolutely, you.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Know what I missed, and they're bringing it back down
on it. Think it's maybe on Amazon Prime, but it
won't be the same as the Skins game on Thanksgiving,
and ABC would be covered if to give us Vince
Scully for a while, maybe did the commentary at Jack Whittaker. Uh,
that was a great tradition. I tell you just one
more pro tip. Do not copy Bill Ellis's swing. It's
like a Lego set. It takes about fifty pages to
(21:19):
get to the top. There's about five planes on that swing.
Bill knows it.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
There's some guys that you watch on the tee and
then there's other guys that you turn your back on
on the tee.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Don't don't even look at it. It's like the eclipse.
Keep your eyes off Bill Ellis's swing.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
And that's like looking at Medusa. You're gonna turn to stone.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
We love you, man, all right, don let's talk turkey
literally here.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Uh. And by the way, you may have to you
may have explained to JB who Medusa is.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
Well workshop that during the break here. JB. Brown's with
this year Big Game Cock Fannies and Blue Ridge Analytics,
and we're in with with Don Munson, of course, in
advance of yet another rivalry game between Clemson and Carolina.
Let's just size up where these two teams are. Give
me a quick breakdown what you see is the keys
(22:15):
to winning for Clemson and what Carolina could do to
potentially I don't want to say upset. Are they favorites
right now? South Carolina in this game? Is that what
I'm hearing?
Speaker 3 (22:25):
You got me? I paid zero attention to the line,
so I haven't have no idea who's who's who's a
favorite or who's not. But you know, I think you
have to be pretty honest coming in this game. But
the season for both of these clubs is has been
nowhere near what what either fan base expected or the prognosticators.
So if we're coming in this one, it's a little
(22:45):
bit of a mess, to be perfectly honest with you,
So it's it's difficult to figure out, you know, exactly
what the keys to this thing are because I don't
know that anybody really know what the what the keys
South Carolina? The change in offensive coordinator seems to have
done their off thans the world are good. I mean,
they go to A and M and they score thirty.
Then obviously last week they put up fifty one against
(23:06):
the Coastal Carolina Club, So you know, all right do
they have and in both of those games, Norris has
thrown for what better than I think better than two
hundred and thirty yards in both of the games. So
so you know, you get all right, so right, they
got that figured out maybe a little bit, and they're
running him a little bit more, which I think all
of us thought that they should be doing right from
(23:27):
the get go. Clemson on the other high end, you know,
it's it just seems like they can't stay away from
the injury bug. Kate Klubnick's you know, he's all nicked up.
He's nowhere near to being one hundred percent ankle five injury.
That's that's going on with him. And then the offensive
line up front's just been decimated by injury. So you
(23:48):
got five guys, five pieces of the puzzle that can
play up there. But then what's the depth behind that
should somebody else go down in a game, and you
got to figure that probably that's going to happen at
some point in time, somebody's going to get a little
nicked up. Defense would say, the South Kline defense. I
think it's probably played a little bit better than the
Clemson defense, although here is of late, the Clemson defense
has been pretty good. They've given up ten, nineteen and
(24:09):
ten in the last three games. So, you know, I
don't know that any of us really know. You would
think that a quick start would play out, but maybe not.
After what South Carolina went through just a couple of
games ago, you know, maybe a quick starts maybe not
the best thing for them. But then you know, for Clemson,
a quick start has seems that when they have gotten
(24:32):
off to a quick start on the road, man, they've
just mashed people when they've been able to do that
on the road, So who knows.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
I think it's just a quick point. On top of that,
you and I have discussed several times about Tom Allen,
the defensive coordinator, how this takes time. There was instant
expectation that this roster and that coach would have them
firing out of the gate, and it just wasn't the case.
But they're easy into comfort zone now. It's a transient
situation with players these days. Man, it's just a different,
(24:58):
different type of environment. You never know who's staying who's going.
But they've got a foundation to work on there and
they are Bowl eligible because on senior Day and emotional
day they did beat Ferman. You were there for that,
of course. And now Kate Clubnick thirty eight starts under
his belt, seventy three touchdowns, an ACC championship, oh by
the way, another one after that, so two of those
(25:18):
to carry with him. An emotional day for Kate and
others as well. But let's talk about the quarterback and
his final performance and the emotions after that at Death Valley.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
Yeah, you know, obviously only he just play a little
over a quarter. They took him out with about twelve
minutes to go in the second quarter, and it was
and they had to take him out because he was
nicked up. When he came up the field, he was limping,
so which was not good to see watching. He's been
all right running around in practice this week, but you know,
they kind of took him out when they need Plus
they were they were up seventeen to nothing and they
(25:50):
wanted to get some guys in there and let him play.
And certainly they did. But I think that club Nick,
you know, he's somebody asked me, you know, where would
you rate him in the echelon of of Clemson quarterbacks.
I don't know that I'd have him in the in
the top five all time of of c Colememson quarterbacks.
I would see he's probably in the top ten though,
of all time of of Comeston quarterbacks. He's not of
(26:11):
that generational issue you know, of the ilk of of
Deshaun or of or of Trevor, that's for sure. He's
he's not a taj Boyd, you know, from from that
standpoint either. But I think he's he's been, you know,
he's been. Is he you know, is Charlie Whitehurst. Maybe
that's a good comparison for these won twenty five games
as a as a quarterback for for Clemson. So that's
(26:34):
that's the note day. Or he's climbing the all time
win total for for Clemson and that that standpoint. So
he's had some good pieces of the puzzle around him
as well to be able to work with. And I
think that, you know, Club Nick probably is gonna be
really probably a little bit underappreciated maybe when he when
he does leave, when all is said and done after
this one on Saturday, and then whatever Bowl game they
(26:55):
go to.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Let's talk about the history of this series. Don Munson,
who is the voice of the Lips and Tigers, and
before that, you've often spoken glowingly about our old friend,
our late friend, Jim Phillips is the eternal voice of
that program. But we lean on you now for that role.
And Don, it's a it's a great thing to look
at from your perspective, I'm sure in terms of this
series history and some of the moments that stand out
(27:18):
to you. Can you think of a couple that stand
out on the top of your head when you look
at the long history, whether you were in the booth
or not, in terms of wow, what a game that was?
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Well, certainly from again me growing up, and then you know,
we we got him now. I'm an I'm an old guy.
So when we were going up, there was there was
like one or two, maybe three games that were on
on a Saturday. So there you know this, in the
sixties and seventies, there weren't that many. There weren't as
many games on. So the one that obviously sticks out
to me was the one in the Butler Catch So
(27:51):
that's that's definitely the one that you know, that was
a game in which Clemson addy hugely, Suning comes rawing back,
takes the lead, and then Clemson is able to drive
the field and and and Fulford to but there at
the end. So that's that's the That's the probably the
one early one that stands out for me and in
my lineage in as you you know, start working your
way through these things. Certainly the game in eighty one
(28:14):
Clemson was you know, forced into a must win situation
because they were chasing at that time a potential you know,
bid to the national championship. And then you know, obviously
they beat South Klina and then they go on take
care of a business against Nebraska. This is before championship
games and conferences, you know as well. You know, I've
you know, one of the plays that really sticks out
(28:35):
to me, and I just saw a highlight of this
the other day. I think it was the ninety four
game in which Brad Scott led coach Sunthcolina's team came
into Death Valley and you remember they ran that throwback
on the kickoff. Oh yeah, where Yeah, they ran and
they threw and they took it for a touchdown. You know,
that's one of you know, we think about just a
(28:56):
play that just kind of startles you. That was that
was you know Brad Scott, that was that was quite
essentral Brad Scott twit trick play right there. From from there,
the brawl stands out, you know, where both teams were
Bowl eligible and they have the brawl and they don't
get to go to a bowl. You know, all that
kind of stuff. You know, sixty three seventeen from the
(29:16):
Clemson side down in Columbia. You know, last year you
go back and you look at the way that South
Carolina ran won last year, Lenora Sellers just ran all
over Yeah, and it wasn't design runs. He was just
he was just doing it on his own. He ran
for one hundred and sixty six yards, is still his
career high. You know. So it's there's a lot of
these things, but that's why it's the rivalry, because there's
(29:38):
so many things that do stand out in your mind,
both both you know, for your team and for the
other guys as well.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
I think what stands out to me is two thousand,
I was working down there with our friends now the Roar.
It was at that time one O four nine, ironically enough,
and I was doing mornings down there with you know,
big most Standfield was doing mornings as well.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
Yeah. Yeah, that was.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
Back when you and I I got to know each
other a little bit too. And I remember the catch too, obviously,
the big game between South Carolina Clemson with the third
and twelve Danzler to Rod Gardner, and it was either
a push off or it wasn't depending on what colors
you're wearing in the stands. I see you, JB, but
I've very rarely.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
Hurt after Caroline's mistake to let him even catch the ball,
that's what it was.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
Well, there you go. I've heard very few environments that
loud in that moment, and I was in the press
box and that one stands out to me. And I
know there's been louder moments since for Clemson, and hopefully
there'll be louder moments to come. Obviously, it's been a
disappointing year. I'm sure coach Twinny would be the first
to say it, and he has. But you know, you
are in a different environment right now in college football,
and I'm not just talking about the perceived lack of
(30:45):
activity in the portal and nil, I'm talking about the
volatility where it's looking more like the NFL these days,
where you have people coming out of the woodwork suddenly
playoff contenders. What is your general sentiment of this playoff
format and the process by which they go about, you know,
making decisions. Do you think it's getting better? Would you
change anything? Are you allowed to talk about this? Just
(31:08):
anything you can mention would would be helpful to us
because we appreciate your insight.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
Yeah. I mean we're only in year two of this
of the way that it stands right now. If you
don't think it's going to expand, I think you're just
kidding yourself. It's definitely going to expand. This is probably
the last year that we'll see a twelve team playoff.
I'm a big believer that it's going to go to
sixteen and then it's going to eventually grow to twenty four.
I think that that what the FCS people have have
(31:32):
done have already set the blueprint for all of that.
And so you know, why not may they take away
a regular season game instead of playing twelve? Maybe go
back to eleven games If they do that, maybe, But again,
we're in a day and age, where you know, the
buck is the buck is what's driving everything. Dollars are
what are driving everything right now in collegiate athletics, and
(31:56):
so you know, probably not because you know, if you
do that and you're hosting a home game, you lose
millions of dollars when you're doing and you just can't
afford to do that in today's day and age.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
No, you can. It's a business as it always has been,
but it's more transparent now in the open. Now there's
no more you know, grocery bags full of money.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Now you say that, but really really it's not because
you would like a full transparency, really understand what everybody
is spending. I mean you you kind of have an
idea and you know here in the state, for instance,
what our legislature what said that it would be like
fifty million to slip between the two schools. You know,
(32:34):
so that's twenty five million apiece at you know at
some point in time that that's that's that's going to happen.
But but how is it being spent? You know, what
you'd like full transparency to kind of see you know,
what people are getting. What we're finding out, John, is
that is that kids are electing to stay in school
because they can make significantly more money. Oh yeah, playing
(32:55):
in college than they can in the pros. I mean
rock Perty is a perfect example of this party. You know,
the two quarterbacks in our state are making almost double
what Brock Purdy is making starting for the San Francisco
forty nine.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
That's crazy, that is And you're exactly right. You go
where the money is, and it also helps you development
in a lot of cases, not to rush into the NFL.
We do have a text real quick. It's from a
man named Bill Ellis. Yeah, Bill Ellis times in Donnie.
Bill Ellis writes, Donnie will be calling Clemson games for
thirty more years.
Speaker 6 (33:27):
What do you think.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
I hope he's right. I hope he's I'm sixty three,
so that would put me at ninety three. Come on,
I hope the good Lord let me see the age
of ninety three. I hope that's the case, my kid. Yeah,
exactly right, exactly right. Bray and I tim Berray and
I we have a pack that we have agreed that
we want to try to make it till I think
it's twenty thirty eight. That's the last year that Clemson
(33:50):
in Notre Dame or scheduled. I think to be playing
on the contract. So if we can make it at
twenty thirty eight together, I think we can both look
at one another and say, Okay, career, that's how hang
it up. Let's let's let the new guys come along.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
Well, congrats with him when you see him for the
Athletic Hall of Fame nomination and enshrine. But that is awesome,
and he's one of the best people as well as
you've don you're a great friend. I hope you and
your family have an amazing Thanksgiving and uh, we'll catch
up face to face after the holidays. Man, good luck
this weekend.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
All right, appreciate it and everybody have a great Thanksgiving.
Hope it to your already get together with with a
family and friends. And you know, by the way, if
I had let me ask you, John, what is the
most underrated side dish on your Thanksgiving cable? It's funny, underrated?
Speaker 1 (34:34):
Bring you got up. We're about to do a Thanksgiving
meal draft underrated side dish. It's going to be the
sweet potato casserole with the marshmallow. The marshmallows, that's.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Not an underrated.
Speaker 7 (34:46):
That's amazing.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Okay, well it's underraty by Okay, underrated is the can
cranberry can cranberry?
Speaker 3 (34:53):
Okay, fried apples? Way, underwear under raiding.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
How about just rolls. I just give me some rolls,
just a lot of rolls, a little hamm and it rolls.
Oh yeah, hammer turkey, Don hammer turkey or yes.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Uh turkey not him?
Speaker 1 (35:11):
Oh wow, okay, turkey turkey. Have you ever had Have
you ever had a turducan ever in your life?
Speaker 3 (35:18):
I have had duck and turkey, Yes, it Thanksgiving together,
but not a tur duncan like like never, yeah, not
a not a not a duck inside of a turkey
inside of a chicken kind of things.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Dressing or stuffing. Of course, it's stuffing, right, it's stuffing.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Yeah, we're we're in the South, that's right.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
Don be well man and stuff those cocks.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
Yeah, death of the game cocks back there, JB. Good Don.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
I was gonna tell Don that and I own budget
they're talking about. I think five million goes to his wardrobe.
That's a sharp pressed man, right there is Don Munson,
Clemson Athletic Network and just a great guy. And I'll
tell the story once again because my old man Bill,
who's hosting Thanksgiving tomorrow by the way, for the elliest
clean we thank you and Lurid for that. Bill had
me up here in the same building when I was
(36:10):
twelve thirteen years old, and I remember Don Mudson and
Jim Phillips gracing these halls a young spriye Donnie Mudson
doing sports talk on an AM frequency here for a
long long time, and that's when I got to know
donn as a guy that was just grinding working his
way into the business. A great man, and you know,
whether you're on the Clem Center Carolina side, he's one
(36:30):
of the best people on the planet. And happy Thanksgiving,
Don to you and your family. JB. Obviously, if you
could speak freely during that interview, I'm sure you would
have respectfully disagreed with Don on several as a Carolina Gamecock,
but it is a great rivalry where we can all
sort of have some healthy hate it and then high
five afterwards.
Speaker 4 (36:49):
Oh yeah, absolutely, you can't take it personal this game,
because I mean, you would lose friendship, to lose family
members if you took it that serious.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
You give me Clemson fans in your fan.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
I have my oldest sons is a clumpson. Would you
cut them out of the wheel? No, No, he's still there,
but he's cooking the turkey tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (37:08):
So I can't say too much, got it?
Speaker 4 (37:09):
But yeah, but yeah, it's uh yeah, I don't take
it as serious as I used to.
Speaker 6 (37:13):
I mean I used to be.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
You know, I am still a diart, but I mean
I would lose sleep or get mad about it, and
it's like, you know, I'm like, well, I can't control it.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
That's how I was with the Panthers when I was
like in my twenties and teens. That's why I started
going into the media side of it. I just hung
my hat up, said, boys, my kids. You guys are
carrying the torch now. And I still love to see
them win, and I still hate to see them lose.
But the winds feel better than they used to and
the losses don't hurt as bad. That's where you have
to get eventually, I think. Is a grown up isn't
(37:43):
a toll? Yeah? You drive yourself nuts, man with these
Oh yeah, sports are so volatile. You just never know
what's gonna happen. Look at the NFL this year. We
talk about it We're gonna get back to that after
the break. The volatility of this league. There's like one
team I look at and I say, oh man, they
could take it all the way and not lose another game.
That's the Rams.
Speaker 6 (37:59):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Everybody else is gonna just finding out who they are
and where they're at. We'll talk about the NFL and
we'll do our pickums. We're also gonna do a little
fun activity for Thanksgiving. We're gonna do a food draft.
That's right, let's do it. Let's do a Thanksgiving food draft.
Your calls as well to four zero fifty four eighty.
We're back after this.
Speaker 5 (38:19):
Game on with John Alis, weekdays four to six, Fox Sports.
Stay when the long not has noise, when there's no
here beside.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
Till a hold you once again, Thank God.
Speaker 9 (38:42):
For the radio.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Thanksgiving you. Hope you all are gonna have a great
day with family and friends. I know we are. We'll
be off tomorrow and off Friday for Black Friday, but
we'll be back with you Monday to recap. What did
juey did you turn the turkey for? You'd you submit
to the gravy? Four zero We have Chad on hold.
(39:10):
We'll bring you in a minute. I heard you asking
Chad during the break, what would you do for Thanksgiving?
If it was nothing but concessions from the Yeah, snacks
from the vending machine. I can't wait to hear that
much much more. Let's welcome in the King of Peckham's
right now, Chad the venning machine King. What's going on, sir?
Speaker 8 (39:27):
Yeah, I want a thing to say, Big cat as
God as my witness, I felt turkeys could fly.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
You're all week is my witness fly. I heard you,
and I love it. And what I love even more
is the fact that it's no longer Monday night football
fourth quarter and having to watch that slop our Panthers
are back on the practice field. Here come the Rams.
I don't want to spoil Thanksgiving by analyzing this game
(39:59):
to much. My mission is a fan would be this.
I just want to see my team fight and play
to their standard and to run the ball with Rico.
Rico was asked today in the locker room by the press, Hey,
are you okay? Are you upset? He's like, no, we
just talked about it and A told coach we need
to run it more. I've let Rico run it fifty times.
(40:20):
I really would in this game.
Speaker 8 (40:21):
Yeah right, Rico's dead on. We need to run the
ball fall twenty five times during that game.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Guess what their record is in games where Rico Daddle
has at least fifteen carries undefeated, never lost undefeated carries.
Uh yeah, they can't replicate that game plan from last week.
I think Canalis will get it figured out. But the
rams are what they are. You say, two tuddies, I say,
(40:52):
I'll just watch and find out what happens. Although knowing you,
you'll will them to win.
Speaker 8 (40:59):
I got them all the way across the country to Charlotte,
So maybe.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
Don't tell me.
Speaker 8 (41:06):
I thought to take this all week or listen something
somehow to shuttle Stafford down till.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
Don't tell me for a minute. Don't tell me for
a minute that John Ellis is not the biggest sicko ever.
Because while I was prepping for this show, I looked
at weather dot Com and I said's see what's going
on this weekend. I've got a tailgate show to do
out there from clutching Charlotte. Do I need any rain gear? Yes,
it looks like I will. Temperatures in the mid forties
rain is expected. Oh yeah, Now, I researched. I went
(41:33):
to some Mere Sports, a great website where it's got
to it's free. Actually, you can just type in anything.
It's like rock for the NFL.
Speaker 4 (41:41):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (41:41):
And I asked the question, Hey, what's the Rams record
since like twenty twenty two when they play outdoors in
the rain when it's less than fifty degrees they're one
and two? Ched, Yeah, they're one and two.
Speaker 8 (41:53):
Oh, that's all right, you telling me there's a chack.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
I looked. I looked at every matchup, position by position,
and I can't find one place they truly have an edge.
Maybe the weather helps because the Rams hardly ever play outdoors,
and when they do, it's never forty five degrees in rain.
Aside from that, Stafford, I'm going just to be able
to cover the game and witness greatness. And maybe he
(42:21):
won't be great and on that particular day. But Stafford's
an MVP candidate right now. He's actually the best I
can tell you that's playing at the NFL level right now.
Thirty tuties two or something.
Speaker 8 (42:30):
Get another Super Bowl? Yeah already, I.
Speaker 1 (42:35):
Think he's already there. But boy, he's uh, he's got
some years left in him too, Like if the back
stays healthy. He's reconditioned himself. He's he's shed some pounds
and he's you know, actually added some muscle there. He's
playing great man. All right, what's on your mind?
Speaker 3 (42:52):
I think the.
Speaker 8 (42:53):
Tagers on Whoop Up Phone m O, Game Cops Saturday Man.
Speaker 1 (42:58):
Jay Beasley, two Toudies, too tall man, it's all too todies.
Speaker 8 (43:04):
I'm calling it, strong man. The Tiger's gonna show up.
Speaker 1 (43:08):
JB Response, then go down to be and.
Speaker 4 (43:13):
Man wrong Chid, That's all I can say.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
He's gonna put you in the vinding machine. A bunch
of old chats. It's like chats. I'm gonna find a
way to order a chat. Actually, figure somebody will do it.
I bet there's a website that does there chat. Fat
head on the wall, the blue shirt, the panther hat,
(43:39):
actual height, mm hmm, that's right. Men's it bag of chips.
Speaker 6 (43:45):
It just dispenses chips.
Speaker 1 (43:48):
Hammer Turkey. Did we already ask you this yesterday?
Speaker 9 (43:52):
No?
Speaker 8 (43:54):
But I ain't doing either one this year.
Speaker 3 (43:56):
Man.
Speaker 8 (43:56):
We're gonna put the big old Boston butt in the
smokers all night.
Speaker 3 (44:00):
Man.
Speaker 1 (44:01):
Look at Chad calling an audible here. Oh that's out
there to eat at Chad's.
Speaker 8 (44:05):
House, Smoke a little chicken too, smoke for all night.
Speaker 3 (44:11):
What's playing?
Speaker 1 (44:12):
Is you know I'm right around the corner. I'm coming
for liftovers. I'm all by all welcome, all right, man,
we got to hit it break God bless you, Bud.
You're a great friend and friend of the show is
always and happy Thanksgiving man. We'll be talking to you Monday.
Speaker 8 (44:27):
Dame yell three wells and y'all have joan, y'all have
a good one.
Speaker 1 (44:33):
J Chad, Chad and more acoustic setting to that.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Think he's in a home studio set one up finally.
Speaker 1 (44:39):
Usually he's in that truck and you can hear and
it's the tip. We know it's always him. Uh, you'll
call us eight six four two four zero five four
eight zero. Coming up next, the long anticipated Thanksgiving grub draft.
That's right, we're gonna draft the main course, the meat,
Daddy is. We're going draft potatoes. We're going draft you
(45:02):
find a fit, is Cliff clean? Right, boys, we'll find out.
We're gonna audition that before we put it over this air,
so we can come back next week and make some
more money and do some more radio. I'd be thankful
for not going down the other road. Oh boy, while

Speaker 1 (45:44):
You can play him out at Farston. What if we
got hit by truck again? I'm not taking CJ over
my homes. Let me tell you about Sam Darnold. You
could have him right now for a bag of put
him and it's pill. I'm just a dumb sports talker, but.
Speaker 7 (45:58):
I love to start up.
Speaker 1 (46:01):
John. Oh yeah, baby, the weight is over. I got
pure octeam right now.
Speaker 6 (46:06):
I woke up.
Speaker 5 (46:07):
I'm ready finally something to argue about. That isn't your
coworkers fantasy trade proposal or Bryce Young's height. It's game
on with John Ellis and trade poly Walnuts Falco with
wall to wall NFL action all season long. I am
the new from first snap to final whistle, Rookies, revenge
(46:27):
games and questionable calls and absolutely zero patients for your
power rankings. Yeah, kirked over as brought to you by
Ingles Low Prices Love the savings hit The phone line

Here's John Elice.
Speaker 1 (46:45):
Yes, sirs, Thanksgiving even we are on cruise control right now.
Oh yeah, you know it is when you work in
the corporate world. We've all been there by a cubicle
behind a desk. Many of you all are still doing that.
I find myself doing that from time to time, and
some other lines of work within video and you just
get to that Thanksgiving week it's a short week and
they mail it in. It's like, ah, we're not mailing
(47:06):
it in. We're here until seven pm. It's game on.
It's Johnnitlist, It's Trey Paul Wallace Falco, it is JB. Brown,
voice of the Blue Rids athletics team and also an
aspiring sportscaster of higher levels than you can ever imagine
in The man has got the talent, he's got the
mind for it, he's got the notes for it. That's
a broadcaster's delight, these notes you keep. My goodness, Yes, impeccable, impeccable. Okay,
(47:32):
it's got my little note fan slop anything. I keep
it all on the brain.
Speaker 3 (47:37):
Here.
Speaker 1 (47:38):
We're gonna do our Thanksgiving meal draft in a minute.
We're also gonna do pick'em's here in a little while, NFL.
Let's quickly go out to Sean in the Upstate, who
we are forever, eternally thankful for Sean. How you doing, Bud? Hey,
what's up?
Speaker 9 (47:51):
Man? I thought you were talking about me when you
were going over all this alchymy.
Speaker 7 (47:56):
I was like, Oh, what's all this?
Speaker 9 (47:59):
I was like, Oh, they're giving me a real introduction.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
Not always about you. It's not always about you, Sean Well,
I thought.
Speaker 9 (48:08):
I was like, Wow, they're really giving me my prompt.
Speaker 1 (48:13):
Props all the time. You're in the show intro for
God's sake. Yeah, you're you're the your roll call boy,
you like her little pet on her morning to Hey, Sean,
get out there, roll call dresses like a roll of
toilet paper, goes out there. People.
Speaker 9 (48:36):
Are you doing about me anyway? Anyway?
Speaker 11 (48:39):
Anyway?
Speaker 1 (48:39):
What's on your mind? Many Thanksgiving? By the way, Happy
early Thanksgiving? What you got on your mind?
Speaker 9 (48:44):
But you know, everybody's talking about what they want to
eat for Thanksgiving. I think I want taco bell but
family again, I said, I'd buy it all, but.
Speaker 1 (48:58):
You turn the taco to you for you would show
up to the arcade there and I know he would.
It would be a scataboo Thanksgiving of nothing but tacos
and Sean laughing NonStop. The catabos or scatabooists big, that's
(49:19):
your new nicka.
Speaker 7 (49:20):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
Put another one in the flud file, like a swear word.
Speaker 9 (49:25):
Jar.
Speaker 1 (49:25):
It's like.
Speaker 9 (49:27):
Jar, do you like to turn your head to eat
the taco?
Speaker 1 (49:32):
Or do you turn the taco for you?
Speaker 11 (49:35):
Are you dominant to the taco or to the taco?
Like do you turn your head for the taco?
Speaker 1 (49:40):
These are the questions we need to answer.
Speaker 9 (49:42):
Dominated Yeah, say about that.
Speaker 11 (49:46):
It's about the dominance of the taco. Though if you're not,
you're dominating the taco.
Speaker 1 (50:05):
The sonic experience of cam scataboo talking over Sean and
Sean talking gives me life. It would feed families. We
found a new bit every time we heard knew cam
scataboo sound. We're bringing Sean on and we're gonna have
them argue with one another. Accidental brilliance. Thank you. That
(50:34):
was the funniest thing I've heard it forever, And it's
so stupid. What did you do to our panthers? By
the way you them? You had heard the bands over,
fix them, you fix You didn't fix them all them,
You didn't all the way fix them? Fix them again?
What do you think about that?
Speaker 9 (50:53):
I fixed them up, did all I could. I'm done,
And that's always so powerful, you know, Jesse.
Speaker 1 (51:10):
Shot, We still got a shot. Absolutely, there's no giving
up with this team. News. They later dud out there
on a national stage, but that happens if they're new
to this whole playoff race thing. And I didn't expect
them to necessarily, you know, have a dominant game, and
it certainly was a close game for three and a
half quarters. And I think they beat themselves as they
beat themselves as badly as I've seen the Dave Canada's
(51:31):
team beat them. They did not need to pass the
ball on the goal line.
Speaker 3 (51:35):
J C.
Speaker 1 (51:36):
Horn had all those interceptions. They had three points to
show for those three takeaways. And you don't han Rico
Daud of the ball and even Chew be a hubbards
for that matter. You run the ball nine times with
your running backs. Uh, don't expect to win in San Francisco.
Speaker 9 (51:50):
Yeah, I mean it was like they were Hannah to
us and Hannah to us, and we kept losing.
Speaker 1 (51:55):
You know, frustrating.
Speaker 9 (51:59):
By the Hey, I've got seconds to the Panthers Seahawks
game and I'm gonna be in third row.
Speaker 3 (52:07):
So if.
Speaker 1 (52:09):
Ye save a seat, that's that's a great That's gonna
be a great game, the Sam Donald homecoming. And I
think that match up, that matchup is very even in
terms of what these teams do. Uh, that's a great seat.
Now I'll be there covering the game. I'll mostly down
from the press box and say, how do you It's.
Speaker 9 (52:29):
Really not a great seat, though I've been there before.
It's right where the Panthers come out with the fire
and all that.
Speaker 1 (52:39):
World the first world problems here for Sean man. You
know what, I will say this, it's hard to see
things from that low. Yeah, it's very hard, but it
is cool to get up there close to you know,
what's going on there. Hopefully you'll be uh witness to
four more Sam Darnald picks. He owes us a few.
We gave him his We gave him his red Basically,
(53:00):
people forget he came to Carolina now through a trade
and we gave him the starting job when we traded
Baker away and we released him at that point, and
Steve Wilke said, do we trust you Sam? Sam played
well that year they almost made the playoffs, so he
owes us a few interceptions.
Speaker 9 (53:14):
Come on, yeah, I mean, but we had Baker Mayfield.
I mean, we've done a lot of students stuff.
Speaker 7 (53:23):
Man, But you.
Speaker 9 (53:24):
Know, there's new ownership and we're doing better, so I'm
happy about that. I did want to touch on the
well real quick, Clemson versus Carolina. I don't give a
damn who. I really don't. That doesn't matter to me
at all. Keef's Cowboys. I hope it ends in the
(53:46):
tie because I despise both teams, and I think that
would be good, you know. I mean, they both tie,
and that would pretty much mess up their playoffs. Host
I find too thing in mind.
Speaker 1 (54:02):
I just get rid of ties. They're so aesthetically awful,
Like when you look at the standings, you have to
start figure out even though it's pretty self explanatory, like
how does this work? Now? We got to tie here
in standings is it better or worse? That would tie?
Speaker 9 (54:15):
Yeah, well, what did you.
Speaker 1 (54:16):
Do to fix it?
Speaker 9 (54:17):
You know, I don't know. I don't know. That's that's
the question right there. I liked it back in the
day when it was just like whoever you know gets
the it's the chiffs and kicks the field goal. That
was cool.
Speaker 7 (54:32):
But you know those days are over.
Speaker 9 (54:35):
But and then and then one more thing, And I
want your take on this job. I talked, I believe
I talked on the previous show about Matthew Staffords versus
Eli Manning for Hall of Fame first first first ballance.
(54:58):
I think I think Matthew Stafford has him. I don't
think he's gonna go first you know ballot Hall of Fame.
But Eli Manning, I just don't see it. I don't
see a Hall of Fame in his in his future.
I wouldn't give it to him unless he beat Tom
Brady twice in the Super Bowl. And if rings count
(55:20):
that much, then tom Brady was seven, is like.
Speaker 1 (55:24):
God, yeah right, well, I mean yeah, yeah. I mean, look,
rings are a part of a collective effort. When when
you're talking about you know your team and the quarterback
you know gets the gets the glory obviously, because you
know he's got the ball in his hands on every play.
But I look back at Stafford like his career is
so interesting, and we got to let you go into
(55:44):
miss second here show because you got some business attend to.
But I leave you with this. Stafford earned my respect,
and JB you know this as well as anybody because
you love watching Stafford play. I'm sure the way he
handled himself in Detroit, he never complained his way out
of that city. He always stuck around. They made the
playoffs a couple of times and never did much after that.
He was still doing this stuff in Detroit. He had
(56:05):
Calvin Johnson for a minute, then Calvin left, but he
was getting beat the whole hell there. I mean, this
guy just stood the pocket every single week and took
the lumps, took the injuries, and the payoff for him
was gets to go to Southern California in the Dame
with Sean McVeigh. And good for him because now you
see you put stuff around Stafford. He's as good as
anybody we've ever seen.
Speaker 6 (56:23):
Sidney Detroit.
Speaker 4 (56:24):
He was more like a gun slinger, just throws it
down the field exactly, and that was fun to watch
in Detroit. You know they weren't gonna win, but you
know you'd see good quarterback play in when he went
to LA and worked with McVeigh.
Speaker 6 (56:35):
I mean, it's a perfect pairing.
Speaker 1 (56:37):
He's still got that gun slinger in the back pocket
if he needs.
Speaker 6 (56:39):
It too, Sean Man.
Speaker 1 (56:44):
Happy Thanksgiving Man. I'm sorry we had to cut it
short here, but the clock rules supreme here. We appreciate
you and we're thankful for our friendship with you.
Speaker 9 (56:52):
But I mean that all right, man, I'll see you
the Seahawks.
Speaker 6 (56:57):
Hey, thanks for your service.
Speaker 1 (56:59):
Absolutely all right, thank you, thanklish good man. Sean has
been a regular here for many many years. All Right,
we're gonna hit break come back. Yep, we'll draft turkeys
and insides, and then we'll pick NFL games on Game On.
Speaker 5 (57:12):
This is Game On on one oh four nine Fox
Sports Upstate. Get in on the show at two four
zero fifty four eighty or hit us up on Twitter
at one o four nine Fox Sports.
Speaker 1 (57:26):
Turkey Day Week. Yes, sir, we're closing out this week
of Game On with a lot of fun and festivities here.
We're gonna do NFL Pick thems here in just a
few short minutes in advance of that, We've got some
serious business to tend to. It is the I believe,
first annual game on Thanksgiving Meal draft. That's right. Third,
We've been this three years now. But okay, but did
(57:47):
we do a draft version or did we have a
really hurry annual?
Speaker 10 (57:52):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (57:53):
I can see it now. It's a it's a it's
the first annual game on Turkey A draft. The Turkeys
are hitting the ground like fans and ws and I'm
not gonna believe this.
Speaker 5 (58:06):
We're picking all the fixes and Thanksgiving Day classics.
Speaker 1 (58:09):
Why exactly are we doing this?
Speaker 5 (58:11):
Nose nose, tough guy from Turtucan's all the way down
to tiny tin cans full of fake hats.
Speaker 1 (58:18):
You no whys emotive predict what the.
Speaker 5 (58:21):
First pick is in. So let's roll it out, O
Johnny Das to kick things off as.
Speaker 1 (58:26):
God is my wicks. I thought Turkey's cond find why
here I should say, you are looking live in the
flood file, John Mussburger, here liveave. You are looking live
at a dumbass radio host. You're looking live at rot
(58:50):
and slop. Yes, it is the third annual. Despite what
the image. You may speak to you third annual turkey
A draft thing we do here run game on. So
without further reduce, since we have a guest in studio, JB. Brown,
it's a three man draft here. Do you have the
coin by chance?
Speaker 3 (59:10):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (59:10):
No, don't. I don't actually don't have the coin. Well,
them pennies, they are are commission. I've actually seen stores
putting up signs and begging people not use pennies. Like,
all right, tails, Uh, let's yeah, let's uh, let's do this.
You and I will call heads and tails. You flip it.
I'll call heads tails tails. Okay, I'm gonna go first overall.
(59:32):
Now you guys, slip it, going right now between the
two of you, and we'll go sad. Who goes second?
Speaker 6 (59:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (59:37):
Tails, tales never feels tails. JB's going second? All Right's right?
All right? Then the orders, well, you know, the first
overall pick usually the worst team in football, and such
is the case in this studio. I'm the worst of
the best here with this crew. Here we go, y'all.
All right up first, first category, we are looking at meats. Meats,
(01:00:00):
you got your ham, you got your turkey, you got
your Boston butt. In the case of Chad who's going
robe this year with the Boston butt. No, I'm not
talking about Okay, anyway, here we go, all right, I'm
gonna go straight to Turkey. I'm sorry, I'm claiming turkey.
Turkey is mine. No disrespect to ham or or duck
(01:00:24):
in or duck or lamb or whatever you're into. Get
Turkey first overall picker.
Speaker 4 (01:00:28):
With the second pick, I select ham. Ham is a good,
good meat. It's a classic traditional things.
Speaker 2 (01:00:39):
I've got a Chad's house. I'm gonna be something that Boston.
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
Butt, Boston butt. I'm out of turkey and ham. You
guys ate it all all right in the second round
of the game on Thanksgiving side dish and meal and
all that good stuff. Draft fixes. What about potato dish?
All right, here are your choices in and you get
vultavle fro out of this mashed potato. Sweet potatoes. Potatoes
are grotten. Roasted potatoes are just an old, good, old
(01:01:02):
fashioned baked potato. Um, I'm gonna take sweet potatoes off
the board. Turkey and sweet potatoes, Oh the joy of
having the first overall pick. Dang turkey and sweet potatoes.
I'll just go home from here. I'm good for the week.
Speaker 6 (01:01:16):
I am going with masked potatoes.
Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
Gravy on the grip, of course, and we all get gravy,
by the way, gravy like we give everybody gravy.
Speaker 6 (01:01:25):
Everybody's choices has gravy on the side.
Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
That's right. It's like the extra long snapper they give you.
Everybody gets an extra emergency quarterack. Drink that gravy.
Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
I guess I'll take the old fashioned baked potato.
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
That sounds pretty good. You're going to deny all right,
side dish number one, let's mix up the draft order
here and let's reverse it. Pray you go first. Maybe
you're gonna go second. I'm gonna go third here side
dish number one. Then I'm taking that mash or that
macaroni macarons, mac and cheese, mac and cheese, mac mac
(01:02:00):
and cheese.
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
I gotta get something mac and cheese.
Speaker 1 (01:02:03):
Bird noodles. All right? Who you got for a sagas
number one?
Speaker 6 (01:02:07):
Well, I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:02:07):
I don't eat meat or anything like that, so I'm
just gonna only eat meat. I should say I don't
even meat and eggs, so I would say, uh, green beans.
Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
Green beans can't go green beans? Okay, Well, give me
the obvious. Give me stuffing. Oh there, we got old
thing of stuff and I I've coming out of here,
hot man. I got turkey, I got sweet potatoes, and
I got stuffing. These are all they're good if I'm
playing the hits right now. All right, let's mix up
the draft door here for side number two. It's j
D first, and then Trey and then miss ellis here.
Speaker 4 (01:02:44):
I'm just slipped up a few things right here, and
this looks pretty good. Cheesy bacon butternut squad.
Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
Oh my goodness, Wow, look at you going on with
the steward on us here, JV in the kitchen. I'm
nowhere near that fancy Give me corn. I don't care
how it what a drift that was from one to
the other. All right, so this does not officially count
as a dessert. Gimme give me the cranberries either, or
(01:03:10):
give me the real cranberry sauce. Or give me the
just the can. Jilly, Ah, that disgusting stuff. It's such
a disgusting frost cat food. Put in a bowl. I'll
get down, never to cats eat. She riffed up her,
damn cat. I'm not about the dog, but I sure
(01:03:32):
didn't do it all right, desserts. So here's how we'll
do this one here. I'm gonna let Trey go first.
I'm gonna let JB go second, I'm gonna go third.
I got a bone to pick with this a little
graphic that you sent me in it's just a con
pie is two dollars. Well, yeah, that's what give me that,
Give me, give you that all day. That's one of
my favorite that belongs in the escue five.
Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:03:57):
I'm not a big a banana fan, and my grandmother
used to make me a bananaous hood.
Speaker 3 (01:04:04):
Damn it.
Speaker 6 (01:04:05):
That's my favorite bananas pudding bananas, so.
Speaker 1 (01:04:08):
It's like the same it's the same thing without the bananas. Yes,
I'm so excited. Look at me. I've never been so
bluck in my life. I've always picked those bananas out
of it. It's a soggy brown bananas, right, Nah, just
a bunch of nilla way first with awful jello pudding.
My warned rock some more for there's my butler fat.
Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
Well, damn two of my favorites are off the board
and carrot cake. Take that home and keep it put
in the garbage where it belongs. Yeah, pumpkin pie sucks.
I'm sorry, I'm not going down that road. Uh give me, Okay,
here's what classic do we make here? And then you
have made too, I'm sure Hershey Pie, Oh yeah, that's cool,
(01:04:55):
little Hershey, you gotta get the cheese griter out and
shave the chocolate on top of it. Hershey Pi, that's right,
all right, the rock party of this draft. That's most
irrelevant side dish ever. All right, that's good stuff.
Speaker 6 (01:05:10):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:05:11):
Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Hey, you got a
few minutes, Let's do some pick 'ems here. Let's knock
it out, fire up the band, because my lord, it's
already week thirteen and now, and I love Thanksgiving week
for a lot of reasons. One of those reasons, beyond family,
friends and fellowship, is the fact that we got football
on the television basically every day between Thursday, with Black
(01:05:31):
Friday following that Saturday college football Sunday. A huge lineup
of games. And here we go. Let's start with Dan
Campbell and the Detroit Lions as they host this game
every year, Dan Campbell gonna be feasting. Well, this year
they're taking on the Green Bay Packers. Well, I got
pure rocktane right now. I woke up. I'm ready, He's ready,
(01:05:52):
he's rocking. Josh Jacobs looks like he's probably gonna play
in this game. But who knows the full extent of
how ding Duffy's been going with Dan Campbell at home
to have a pleasant ride home, to just tear into
a traduct in like a maniac. He could eat a
whole one in Miss Lynchula. He could fit in the
palm of his hand a whole cake. Good Dan Campbell,
(01:06:12):
Detroit Lions winning at home? Jab who you got in
that game?
Speaker 6 (01:06:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:06:15):
I take Detroit as well. I think it could be
a really close ball game. But I think the lines
that come out on top.
Speaker 1 (01:06:22):
I'll let Dan take the floor. It doesn't matter. If
you have one ass, cheek and three toes, I will
beat your raps.
Speaker 6 (01:06:27):
Give me them lines.
Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:06:31):
It's a Dan Campbell holiday. It's a good holiday. He's
some dann good games. So no Thanksgiving at least the
first two. Yeah, Chiefs. Shout out to Chiefs Jay out
there against the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 6 (01:06:43):
I want made some groy hope.
Speaker 1 (01:06:48):
Who needs stuffing?
Speaker 10 (01:06:49):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:06:52):
Chiefs are six and five, big win last week. You
can see everybody's darlings, the Colts who have fell deck
and dearth a little bit. Cowboys are streaking right now.
They're playing better defense. Kenny Clark among others. We got
Penny here. We know Michael Parsons. I've got some canny wood,
(01:07:15):
Kenny one. Give me the Chiefs on the road in
a great competitive game. It's a three and a half
spread now, straight up. I just like read, I like Mahomes,
I like Kelsey on the prime stage here and then
the Cowboys defense was a bit of mirage last week.
Give you the Chiefs. This is a much more sophisticated
pass attack than Philly was.
Speaker 4 (01:07:34):
I think Mahomes and his receivers and Kelsey have a
big day tomorrow. So I'm taking Kansas City like it.
Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
Man, Chad's gonna pick the Chiefs. One cowboy you're desperate
for making up ground. The Nightcap was supposed to be
an instant classic. It might still be a good game,
as I don't think Burrow is playing in this game,
does he not?
Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
Like?
Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
Is he playing or not? Let's don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:07:57):
I think he's supposed to.
Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
Burrow. There was word that he was still testing out
how he was going to feel in this game that
he do not need to bring him back. I know,
agree Stunt. He's added to the active roster right right,
I'm going to assume he plays, and I'm still gonna
pick the Ravens here. T Higgins got hurt last week. Chase,
of course, is coming back off the suspension. The Ravens
are playing better on defense. Lamar is, you know, just
(01:08:23):
way ready to have that breakout game. I think this
defense is the team you do that against. Give me
the Ravens on Thanksgiving Night on NBC.
Speaker 4 (01:08:30):
Since Lamar has come back, he is not because he's
been my fantasy football quarterback. Has no point in the
last few months since So you know this, for my selfishness,
I hope he has a huge game.
Speaker 6 (01:08:41):
So I will take I will take Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (01:08:43):
It's at Baltimore, by the way, give.
Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
Them Bungles to take down the rat Birds because I
need the kneelers.
Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
I needed to be in first place. Some Chad logic
right there. Yeah, to hate watch this is a great
game on Black Friday. Some of these games oftentimes suck
because you never know how these games are gonna end up.
Record wise, the Bears exceeding expectations at eight and three
right now, traveling to Philly to take on the Eagles,
who finally cracked last week twenty one nothing to lead,
they blew on the road. They're back home now against
(01:09:13):
the Bears team. Caleb I'm not totally there yet with
his inaccuracy, but he's putting up good numbers. I like
Philly to bounce back in this game. I know there's
problems there with their run of the game and their
offensive line. The Bears have some good pieces on defense,
but you can score on these guys. Give me Philly
to rebound at home on Black Friday.
Speaker 6 (01:09:30):
Yes, give me the Eagles too.
Speaker 4 (01:09:32):
Every game the Bears play is really really close, no
matter who they're playing. Yeah, So I think, you know,
with what happened to Philadelphia at Dallas last week, and
then you know, I think they're gonna they're gonna show
up and play well this week.
Speaker 6 (01:09:44):
So I take the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (01:09:46):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (01:09:46):
I like it, Fly, Eagles Fly. I don't think we'll
take too much time on this one, or maybe we will,
because Miles Garrett has been on a tear and the
forty nine ers are not beating anybody by a ton
of points. Niners at brown Shoulder Sanders his second start.
I don't like that. I do like Miles Garrett to
absolutely create havoc on brock Purty, who was terrible on
(01:10:07):
Monday Night. Close, sloppy game. Give me the Browns or
give me the nine Ers, maybe by a field goal here.
Speaker 4 (01:10:13):
Yeah, this is not a fun game to watch unless
you do watch it if you have the Cleveland defense,
that's right. But yeah, I think I think San Francisco
will win. But I do think Miles will have about
three sacks.
Speaker 1 (01:10:25):
That sounds like me. Haven't you heard his feast week?
Miles Garrett's gonna get it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:29):
He's after bron party.
Speaker 1 (01:10:31):
Give me the Cleveland Browns. It's gonna be a pretty
good Thanksgiving for mister Garrett. All right, here we go.
Jags seven and four. Don't know how they just keep
doing it. Trevor has not played great this year, but
they've leaned on turnovers with defense. The Titans are a
struggle bus right now. Cam Moore played better last week
against Seattle. Give me the Jags in this game.
Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
Yeah, I think war did play better last week, But
I just think Jacksonville seems like they play a close
game every week.
Speaker 3 (01:10:58):
Too.
Speaker 4 (01:10:58):
Oh yeah, unless I play Minnesota. But all right, so yeah,
give me Jacksonville, Tennessee in an upset.
Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
Oh my gosh, wow, Okay, you're making up around again.
Not I just don't like Liam Cohen. Liam, that's why
you refuse to put him in the soundbank.
Speaker 4 (01:11:14):
Yeah, and I was being nice. I didn't say anything
about their quarterback, arm receiver, our running back.
Speaker 1 (01:11:18):
Who are you thankful for in sports?
Speaker 3 (01:11:19):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:11:20):
Liam Cohen and making Trey Falco lose his mind. Texans
Colts is a great game too. Texans. Don't look now.
They're six and five and they have a lot of
tie breakers on other teams out there, their defenses lights out.
They're gonna beat the Colts. They're gonna beat the Colts
this weekend on the road. CJ. Stroud practice today, full participate.
I don't care who plays quarterback. It could be old
(01:11:40):
long necked Bottles over there, Davis.
Speaker 6 (01:11:42):
Milt twenty two yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:11:43):
Or CJ back in the mix. The Colts have some
cracks in the armor. Now Texans are equipped to stop
the run and get after Danny Dimes, who again showed
he's not ready for prime time. Unless Jonathan Taylor's running
for one hundred and fifty yards.
Speaker 3 (01:11:56):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
I don't think the Colts are frauds. I think the
Texans win the game, though.
Speaker 4 (01:12:00):
I think this would be a really close game. I'm
picking Indianapolis because they play way better at home. Yeah,
and you know, I think their defense is good. Houston's
defense is real good. And Taylor won't have a field day,
but I think he'll get just enough yards to where
he can be compatible so Danny Dimes can throw it
down the field a little bit. So I think Indianapolis
in a close game.
Speaker 2 (01:12:21):
Yeah, give me Houston again, though in a close game,
I do think it is going to be close.
Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
Yeah, all right, Saints Dolphins will make this one quick.
Neither team is very good right now. Dolphins are trying
to get better piece by piece. Give me Miami at home.
I like the way two has been playing lately.
Speaker 6 (01:12:39):
Yeah, I like Miami as well.
Speaker 4 (01:12:41):
You know, eight Chan's been showed up last few weeks,
so I expect them to have a big game.
Speaker 6 (01:12:46):
So I'll take the Dolphins, giving him.
Speaker 1 (01:12:49):
Dolphins Dolphin clean streak for the first time all year,
we've done that. Falcons at Jets. Falcons have finally got
off the losing Schneide their last week, it had a
better day. I want to pick the Jets so bad
I can't. The Falcons will beat the Jets. I think, well,
wait a minute, no, no, no, oh, it looks like
Drake London might not play. Oh, really, give me the Jets.
(01:13:11):
Give me the Jets. I think Aaron Glenn's going to
concentrate putting on all his eggs and stopping Bijon Robinson.
Take that away, and then you've got Kirk Cousins out
there right, forgot about that. Yeah, give me the Jets.
Speaker 6 (01:13:23):
I'm taking the Falcons.
Speaker 4 (01:13:24):
I think they will put a lot up in the
box to try to stop Atlanta running game. But I
think Kurt and Mooney have a good little connection in there,
so I'll think I'll take Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (01:13:34):
I don't hate it. Put your seatbelts on, getting ready
to ride, Jets. Give you Tyron Timman. It's gonna be
all about New York, New York this week. Buccaneers at
home against the Cardinals. Now, before you laugh at me,
here and I'm not biased, even though I covered the Panthers.
Teddy Bridgewater took all the first team reps today. Baker
Mayfield did not practice. He may play, he may not.
The Cardinals had beaten some good teams this year. You
(01:13:55):
gotta have Buccaneers, get Bucky Irving back, that's big. It's
really about Baker, like I'm leaning towards him not playing. Thus,
I would take the Cardinals because Bridgewater looks completely lost.
Give me the Cardinals. Let me lock in on that.
The Buccaneers have not looked right for a few weeks now.
Cardinals have played a lot of competitive games, including Jacksonville
last week.
Speaker 4 (01:14:15):
I look for Tampa Bay to get back on track.
I think even with Bridgewater. I think the big thing
you said earlier was Irvin coming back. Yeah, that's true,
and now I think they will. He will have a
field day, I think. So give me Tampa Bay in
a field goal game.
Speaker 3 (01:14:29):
I like it. I like it.
Speaker 1 (01:14:30):
Yeah, give me the Bucketeers as well, Bucking tears the Vikings.
As the world turns. JJ McCarthy not expected to play
this week. That maybe good or bad considering where you're
cheering for in this game. It's gonna be Max Brosmer,
the rookie out of Minnesota who will be traveling as
a welcome to the NFL moment to Seattle to take
on the defense of Mike McDonald and the twelfth Man.
(01:14:51):
The Seahawks are going to throttle the Vikings. I do
believe in this game.
Speaker 4 (01:14:54):
Yeah, in a Donald Bowl here, I'm taking Seattle with
you know. I just think Minnesota's defense will give Sam
a little problems, but I think they're good enough to
overcome it.
Speaker 6 (01:15:05):
And take care of the Vikings.
Speaker 1 (01:15:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
I think it's gonna be a pickoff with Sam Darnold,
and I don't know what to make.
Speaker 1 (01:15:13):
Yes, it could be. Uh give me Seattle Bills Steelers.
Bill's four to you could skip it. You're not thankful
for your Steelers who come into six and five. Roger's
gonna try to play it looks like working through this
hand injury. I don't think it's much of a difference
(01:15:33):
either way. Rudolph doesn't matter. The Bills have been really
pedestrian of late, really pedestrian. They've got injuries on defense.
You can run on them. Can the Steelers take advantage
of that? No, I can't pick the Steelers. I wanted
to try to find an angle because I like Pauli,
But no, the Bills get back on track on the
road and beat the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (01:15:53):
Yeah, I think it's a typical Buffalo game. It'll be
James Cook, It'll be just Allen either throwing and running.
Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
So three internetwy yards rushing combined defense is so bad
when we.
Speaker 2 (01:16:05):
Draft you know, the Ravens ran on us and we
drafted Dereck Harmon so that the Bills could run all
over analysis.
Speaker 6 (01:16:10):
Yeah, it's the Bills, So give me Buffalo.
Speaker 1 (01:16:14):
All right, Chargers posting the Raiders Chargers Yeah, oh yeah, Chargers.
Raiders are screwed. They yeah, son of that game. They
couldn't flex it for whatever reason. It's the Broncos and Commanders.
What about a good game that Jaysen Daniel's been healthy. Uh,
give me Denver by maybe ten here. Their past rush
is gonna eat Mariota alive in this game.
Speaker 6 (01:16:35):
Yeah too.
Speaker 4 (01:16:35):
I think Denver's defense them in Seattle and Houston have
three of the best defenses.
Speaker 6 (01:16:41):
So give me the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (01:16:43):
Yeah, give me the Broncos as well. For fun, Let's
go and pick Monday night's game, even though we'll be
here on Monday, because it looks like Jackson Dark may
play in this game as the Giants right with Dart
would present a challenge to the Patriots, who are ten
and two right now, I'm gonna pick New England. But
if Dark plays be a fun matchup between young quarterbacks
Jackson who's in his rookie year, Drake made light in
(01:17:04):
the world on fire a second year, I think I
like Mike Brabel's team to go to eleven and two.
Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
JB.
Speaker 4 (01:17:08):
Absolutely, I'm taking my Patriots this week. I think there's
nervous every time we play the Giants, but you know.
Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
Helmet catch and all that.
Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
I'm intrigued a little bit because you know, we struggled
last week and so yeah, hopefully we'll get that out
of our system and play well on Monday.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
Yeah, I think.
Speaker 2 (01:17:27):
Look, I like the Giants. I love Jackson Dart, I
love Jamis. I wish Scataboo was there. It's probably gonna
be the Patriots all day.
Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
We'll be there. He's just gonna be on the funnel.
It'll be somewhere on the sideline eating styrofoam. Probably we
need the Manning cast and we need the scatter cast.
Just got just him on the sideline on that little motor.
Do you turn a tackle to you?
Speaker 9 (01:17:46):
All right?
Speaker 1 (01:17:47):
That's Pickham's there. A little Thanksgiving draft there. When we
come back, we get some headlines from around the NFL.
There's some injury news. We'll get you up to speed.
On We'll give you an update on what the college
football playoff rankings looked like and some of the big
matchups this weekend. We'll run down the top twenty five
and give you all the things you need to know
about those matchups. It's Thanksgiving Eve here on Game on,
(01:18:10):
Hey Upstate, John Ellis, has you covered?
Speaker 3 (01:18:12):
Yeah, we got it.
Speaker 5 (01:18:14):
Game on one oh four point nine Fox Sports. Upstate
get in on the show at two four zero fifty
four eighty.
Speaker 1 (01:18:29):
You ever wishing you and yours a merry, merry holiday
season and a special Thanksgiving tomorrow with your friends and family.
And we consider you guys and Gal's family as well.
It's game on John Let's tray, Paully Wantats Falco, and
our new friend JB. Brown, who's been hanging out with us,
is in the house. JB. You said earlier today that
(01:18:50):
you know, and you said this last time you were
in studio, that coaching, of course, means the world to you.
We just had some breaking news come in and i'd
like to get your perspective on it. That I had
no he was even coaching anywhere. But Marshall Falk, who
apparently you know, Hall of Fame running back, we know
that for sure. He was on Deon Center's staff at Colorado.
If he was just announced that he's taking the head
(01:19:10):
coaching job at HBCU's own Southern University. That's a prestigious program, right,
three year deal with an option year per football Hall
of Famer. Yea, he was on deon staff this year.
And we're talking during the break, like you'd love to
see big name guys. It's not very often that we've
seen that in the world of football, big name Hall
of Fame guys going to be coaches.
Speaker 4 (01:19:31):
Right. It's like I was telling you, it's a great
recruiting tool. And then plus too, if they get like
a you know, they can share a lot from their career,
but they also can get like an old time, old
school coach and come in on the staff and you know,
help him with being a head coach and things like
that he has to do beside you know, running up
practice and things like that. So but yeah, I get
(01:19:53):
excited when I hear great players like that coaching in
the college.
Speaker 1 (01:19:59):
I think it's a great story. They went under the radar,
but it was just reported by Jordan Schultz that he's
going to take a head coaching job. I'm looking up
hall of famers that were coaches. It happens mostly in
the NBA, I think, right, like we and maybe just
not Hall of famers, but all stars, like guys like
Doc Rivers who were great players, the guys you knew about.
It's a smaller sample size with basketball, smaller rosters, less players,
(01:20:21):
but in football like Dan Reeves would come to mind,
like he was an outstanding football player with the Dallas
Cowboys and he went on to coach, of course, the
Broncos to a number of Super Bowls and then the
game former game Cock as well. That's right, but we've
had a lot of great players come out of this state.
We've talked about that as well, like you and I
briefly chatted about that last week. But our good friend
Michael Foster from the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame,
(01:20:43):
we always talked with him about this too, like some
of the great players all across the landscape that have
gone from South Carolina to the pros in any sport,
but especially football. Like yeah, I was just watching the
other day. Some of the guys from rock Hill, that's like.
Speaker 6 (01:20:57):
A factory up right, Clowney Gilmore.
Speaker 1 (01:21:00):
Yeah, I think Jonathan Jones went there. And you think
about the upstate too, if had guys like Hopkins comes
to mind. I've never met d hop Of You did
you ever get a chance to know. I've saw him
a few times, but I've never spoken to him. Will
Vandervoord who is a good friend of mine. He covers
the Clemson Tigers, and he was covering Hopkins all throughout
his college years and down there Daniel and he said
(01:21:23):
that the handshake is what gets you, Like the hands
are enormous, right, And I think when you meet these
guys that play at the professional level, like you don't
realize like the NBA is a whole nother story, because
monsters that are like six' four in THE nfl are
small on the court in THE. Nba but in THE nfl,
(01:21:43):
world some of these, guys it's the traits of like
their their, wingspan like how long their arms, are how
big their hands. Are the arms are work get. Me
like WHEN i watch a guy Like Emmanuel forbes play
And i've seen him in person, too in some other.
Corners that's one big thing that scouts look at his,
wingspan arm, length and it's like these little things you
notice when you watch these guys in, person whether it's
(01:22:05):
just in a, gathering whether it's, pregame warm, ups. Practice
and then you see guys That Doug flutie Or Bryce
young or you, know Even Russell wilson who don't superimpose
you in terms of like, traits but they do it
with their. Mind and then you got the dad bods
out there like my. Homes he's, right he's talked about.
That he's all about flexibility, training but he's got that
(01:22:28):
little little gut going, there.
Speaker 4 (01:22:30):
Right but it's always funny when you, say well you
always send your best looking guy the first one off the,
bus you know in THE nfl that you, know if
you watch AN nfl, team, yep you see tons of
those guys coming, Off you're like. Wow and then you see,
that like you, know like you were, saying The fluties
and The brice coming, Out you're, like, oh that's the.
Quarterback oh, okay you, know it's.
Speaker 1 (01:22:50):
Stunning to, me like most, recently and this is WHY
i love covering THE nfl And i'm blessed to have
this opportunity with iHeart to you, know have practice access
and locker room, acts and it's something you fall into
and all of a sudden you're there and you have
to shake yourself and not be a fan of LIKE
nfl guys and, like, Wow i'm wide. EYED i got
over that fast because it's a. Business but it still
(01:23:12):
does strike me sometimes WHEN i see A tetoro McMillan
and you watch him on television during. College he shows
up to his first training camp, practice we're right there
in front of, him and he looks different than Anything
i've ever seen at the receiver position here In. Carolina,
Now Steve smith is the best of all time, here
But steve was five to. Nine he played six.' five,
oh yeah he played high. Point football but and then
(01:23:35):
you see Him beside bryce and, you convent you do.
Convince yourself and THIS is i think some guys out
there that go to the combine and they see him
up close and personally you convince yourself there's no way
he'll survive in. This League right parcels had an over rule,
about this like quarterbacks could be no less than six.
To two they had to have the right shoulder with.
The frame he was. Very particular you look at who
(01:23:55):
played for him over, The Years, Drew bledsoe Vinny, testa
Verde even romo was on. His team these are all guys.
Speaker 6 (01:24:01):
That are six Year r don's hosteler, he Was And.
Speaker 1 (01:24:05):
Phil simms, as well all. Big guys and there's something.
To That but bryce And the panthers will rebound, this
week at least they'll try. To rebound they're back in
action against the best team IN. The nfc That's The
rams that, to me is not a winnable game on.
The surface what it is is more of a litmus test, to,
see hey can we mentally and physically recover from what
(01:24:25):
was a game that we gift wrapped to the forty
nine Ers on? Monday night that was a game for. The,
taking defensively they were Outstanding Against. Brock purdy they took.
The way they took the ball away. Three times so
that's the Challenge For. Dave canalis as we talked to
him the other day on his. Press conference let's look
at the. College game here is the last week of the.
Regular season here in terms of rivalry week for the big,
(01:24:48):
time programs and last week was not. The, best obviously
that week in between rivalry week and the prior week
is always going to be a bit of a homecoming
for a lot of, these teams right and now you
go into a week where not only there's great matchups
in terms of The history Old Miss, mississippi State The,
egg BOWL where I Mean blayne giffin's doing everything you
(01:25:09):
can to keep us in suspense, right now but he's
got that game ahead. Of him Georgia And georgia tech
has always, been entertaining but Now With haines King and
georgia take even though they had a hard loss last,
go round. That's tough kind of took him out of that.
That conversation they're not in, two though and they can Still.
BEAT georgia I mean, georgia's defense their pass rush hasn't
(01:25:29):
been anything special, This, year.
Speaker 6 (01:25:31):
Yeah because usually their defense, have layed but this year
they're not been a.
Speaker 1 (01:25:34):
LITTLE different i guess. That's good you find different ways.
To win Indiana's got purdue that should get ugly fast.
As uh, You know purdue's having a rough go. This
year mendoz has, BEEN great a and m Is. At
texas that's a fascinating Game in texas say them when
mean we talked Your. Game cocks they had him on.
The Ropes Uh, in texas, You know art has played
some decent football now of late twenty, three touchdowns. Seven
interceptions they do have. Three losses it's kind of a
(01:25:57):
must win Situation for Texas And Ohio. STATE michigan i
have this sense about this game that it's in the.
Big house my wife's a misk.
Speaker 6 (01:26:05):
And, Grayhead yes i'm not.
Speaker 1 (01:26:08):
Picking, this GAME but i would not be Shocked If,
ohio state who's been the best team all, Year long
they've been. A machine they tend to have these mental
sort of lapses against it gets in their head a.
Little bit it's it's the past. Few years what can?
You say that was? A shocker last year People Buried.
Ohio state, after that People Wanted ryan. Day fire they
go on to do the ultimate thing and win. THE
championship i Could see michigan winning.
Speaker 4 (01:26:29):
This GAME so i told, MY wife, i Said if
miscan can keep it the closer they, keep it the
longer they. Keep, it yeah, you know you can't help
but being An Even ohio state football player thinking oh
here we, Go, again.
Speaker 1 (01:26:40):
Well that's that's part of. IT too i think the
pressure comes off a little bit now that you have
a college football playoff structure that doesn't eliminate, you here
but that rivalry runs so deep it's almost is more
important than a national championship.
Speaker 6 (01:26:55):
To a lot of Fans in Michigan in ohio.
Speaker 1 (01:26:58):
For sure Miami And pitt pitt with a great season,
so far ultimately what they got to work with here
eight and three on, the season and their Young quarterback
kenchell has been. Playing, Great miami they're an, INTERESTING. Team
jb they are those bad losses, they had, you know
they Did Beat. Notre dame it's worth Mentioning That notre
dame always is the wild card that throws a wrinkle
(01:27:20):
into this. Playoff System but miami's twelfth in. The country
that game Is. At pitt that's an upset special if you,
ASK me I think nardoozy's team could end up just
shutting this conversation down.
Speaker 5 (01:27:30):
For.
Speaker 4 (01:27:31):
Good well pitt Came To georgia tech last week and
really put it on. THEM there i Mean They georgia
tech made it close, toward end but they were up
three tests there for a.
Speaker 1 (01:27:38):
Long Time carson beck started out so well this year
and then he had those multiple interception games and put
them in a. Bad spot And Then. Oregon washington You Know,
DAN lenning i love, that, guy, MAN right i love watching.
Him coach washington's a. Game opponent now it's only a
six and a, half Spread but oregon's still hanging. Around
there Vandy and tennessee a couple very. Talented Teams With
joey aguilar Going Against. Diego poppy it's a three thirty
(01:28:00):
kickoff And virgin, you know they may not ultimately reach,
the playoffs they may not Win a natty, this year
but what a season it's Been For. Tony elliott they're
nine and two, right now six. And one people forget
how much that program. Has overcome oh with the tragic
loss of a couple of their players a couple of.
Years ago that should. Be interesting and you know what
used to be a great ROBBERY. Usc, ucla, yeah yeah
(01:28:21):
here they're talking ABOUT taking ucla away From The rose
bowl and Move To. Sofi stadium that should be a felony.
Right there ye can't be. Doing that That's st it's
all about the iconic is the? Almighty Dollar notre dame Taken?
On stanford Good, for, frank right. This year, you know
they had a big win last Week against cal and
(01:28:41):
it's been a tough. Situation There. Notre, dame obviously they
can't afford to lose, another game so we'll see what.
Happens There The. Iron Bowl iron bowls, always, HUGE always,
i mean, you know that's the kind of game where
you just. Never know that's what makes this week, so
great is is something's going to shake something up in.
Speaker 4 (01:28:59):
The, playoffs yeah Because, BECAUSE alabama, i mean they play
great in weeks and there sometimes they don't.
Speaker 6 (01:29:04):
Play great so they definitely need to win for their,
playoff hopes no doubt. About it is if they lose
this when they're.
Speaker 1 (01:29:10):
Definitely out so are you STILL leaning i mean THAT'S still,
i mean are You Leaning ohio state to win this
entire thing? This? YEAR ye i think anybody else can?
CHALLENGE it.
Speaker 4 (01:29:17):
I do, i mean their receivers and well they're, you
know whether their quarterback, IS playing i just. DON'T see,
I mean i'm not saying they're gonna, roll everybody but
i they're playing better than anybody.
Speaker 6 (01:29:28):
Right now so.
Speaker 1 (01:29:30):
Before we leave, IT here espn has the following odds
for these teams to make. The, playoffs obviously the top
tier guys are already in Pretty Much, Ohio. State indiana
all those teams you GOT like smu hanging around a fifty,
Two percent miami's at twenty percent. Right now to Make,
It Jmu, james madison they're a game, Opponent Man north
texas as well at forty. Three. Percent uh and then,
(01:29:51):
you know hanging on for. Dear life here You got
texas at. Six percent they've got to win this game.
This week michigan. Ten percent They Beat, ohio state that, goes,
well yeah, OH. Yeah jb thanks for, Being, here man.
Absolutely happy thanks you having to you and. Your family
