Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here's somebody who joined us on the emergency line. Here,
it's Max Chadwick. Pff, Max, how you doing?
Speaker 2 (00:05):
You holding up good? How are you guys doing doing great?
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Man?
Speaker 1 (00:08):
It's the weekend, and obviously we got football to talk about,
and we'll probably do more of that and we have
you on next time. But it's a pretty big story here.
I mean, we see things from time to time that
are pretty groundbreaking pieces of news. But this is arguably
the greatest defensive player right now in the game, and
maybe one of the best in the next ten years
to come. And an iconic franchise, a well known owner
(00:30):
has basically, in my view, just shut him out and
chased him out of town.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
What's your take on it?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Yeah, this is why you take care of your star
players early, right, because the longer you wait to sign
them to an extension, the more expensive it becomes. Because
all of a sudden, now you know Miles Garrett and TJ. Watt,
two guys that Michael Parsons is probably, if not on
that tier, but a light step below them. They get
paid forty million plus dollars a year. Micah is gonna
(00:56):
want that kind of money, if not more than that,
right and deservingly so. So I think this is what
happens you don't take care of your star players. And
I think Dallas went about this horrendously. I mean, they
took a long time a ceedee lamb, they had his
contract done. Yeah, it is just bad practice by by Dallas.
And you could have had Micah, you know, one or
(01:16):
two years ago for thirty to thirty five million dollars
a year. Now his price tag is up to over
forty million dollars a year, I'm assuming and from everything
I read about the situation, how Dallas just try to
work out a contract with him, and then when his
agent try to get involved, they refuse to work with
the agent. It's insane maunpractice I think by by Dallas.
(01:36):
And now you're saying, why you know a guy they
really need? That defense without Michael Parsons is not a
very good one at all. Right now they can't afford
to lose him, and now it feels like they might
be might be losing them.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Well, I mean we think that in nex.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Chadwick is our guest her PFF dot com who usually
joins us with much more notice. But these always are
pro and thank you for that this is again. I
just want to remind people nothing is official yet. This
is essentially one more piece of negotiation that we can
take with a grain of salt until such time that
Stephen Jones, it sounds like we'll be involved in trying
(02:09):
to facilitate a trade. Here's the thing, Max, I'm still
not certain that this isn't just Micah getting frustrated, but
also saying from his agent's perspective, David Wilgetus saying, all right,
it's it's time to put the foot down on the
neck and do this the right way for once, apply
the pressure, watch the team rally around you, and they'll
have to kate. Because Dallas doesn't trade star players. They
(02:32):
sure don't pay him on time. But I remember last
time they traded away somebody of this nature. Could it
be just that it's one more step and this ends
up being an overpay, but it happens in the usual
September time slot.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yeah, I think now you're you're seeing Micah put the
cowboys to the fire here and say listen, it's it's well,
first of all, he might be he might actually went
out of there. That I true telling me. Yeah, So,
but I think you're right though. I think a lot
of times when you see these trade requests go down,
a lot of times it's a negotiating tactic, right you see,
(03:05):
Miles Garrett across the trade is Saucetason and obviously you
got a massive to you out of it too. So
this is a negotiation tact saying, hey, I am willing
to leave here, like I want to get out of
here if you're not gonna pay me what i'm worth.
That could be what this is too. In fact, I
think it's probably most likely outcomes of Dallas just eventually
caves and pays them, or probably pays him forty plus
(03:26):
million dollars a year. Yeah, and he's happy with that.
But I think it's the most likely outcomes. I don't
think Dallas wants to trade them. I don't think it's
really on the.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Opposition, not them right now.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
But I mean from that post by Micah, it does
seem like he's pretty fed up right now with Dallas, honestly,
as he should be.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
I would be in zero hurry. I mean, look, they
got to pay you either way. This fifth year option
is still right there and it's signed. But as we mentioned,
the Dallas Cowboys do not have a long history of
trading away assets like Michaeh Parsons. They generally like to
keep these guys home grown, even if they pay them.
And I just have to believe that mulgeta who is
cutthroat and he's one of the best. He's the Shawn
(04:02):
Watson's agents, so obviously you know he can he can
get the funds for his guy when he needs it.
I get the sense that this has been going on
for a while, which year. In fact, I know it has.
He's been pissing off a lot of players for a
long time. But he's a charmer and he has a
way of sort of getting that folksy thing going. And
I worked directly with me cut out the middle man,
and I think we'llgeta Not that Mike, you can't think
(04:23):
on his own. They've probably gotten his ear and said
it's time to put it into all this and it's
time for you to profit from it. That's my gut
feeling on it that this is really step one in
what will probably be a protracted, you know, discussion between
maybe Steven and we'll geta because you know, Jerry needs
to just be locked in a closet somewhere This is
ridiculous just from a football perspective.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Max.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Look, if Dallas loses Parsons and I know whatever they
were covering trade assets, maybe it's akin to what Khalil
Max trade did. That to me is fine. But for
the present time, if he's no longer a part of
this team, that that is a huge problem because you know,
over shown is a good player. They've got other young guys,
Parsons is the one guy you game plan for on
(05:05):
the entire team.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Yeah, and they drafted donovanz Roku, who I like to
out a Boston college as an edge rusher. I thought
he could have been a first round pick. But I
mean you're talking about easily a top five edge rusher
in the NFL right now. And Michael Parsons, you just
don't give that up in his prime too. This guy's
still younger than thirty years old. So yeah, I really
just this is this is really bad practice by Dallas.
(05:30):
I hated it when they sign him after his third
year when they could have. You know, that's when these
guys are allowed to sign extensions after their third season.
Mikah didn't do so, so I thought that was a
myth by Dallas. Now I mean, you're waiting an extra
year now, and now the price has only gone up.
And now now Jerry Jones and Dallas seems to not
be willing to talk to his agent, which is just
(05:51):
insane like that, That's exactly what the agent is there
for to do. The players are supposed to be negotiating
their contract unless they don't have an agent. So the
fact that they think, oh, well, we're we're going to
negotiate with the player himself and not talk to his
management is just ridiculous thinking by Dallas in my opinion. So,
uh yeah, I think it's I think it's all on
Dallas right now, and I think I think anyone pointing
(06:13):
to blame anywhere but the Dallas Cowboys front office is
doing the wrong thing here.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Well, we're going to see what happens.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
And by the way, we don't have time today because
we know you've got a lot to do and we
do as well. But Max Chadwick from Pro Football Focus
just did a great series on the ACC and of course,
a lot of Clemson fans in this audience and for
a state fans, Max, are you are you standing by
your your original feeling that Clemson can and maybe will
be the national champion this year.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Where we at that point.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Yet, Yeah, I haven't submitted to officially my pick for
the year, but I think I'm leaning towards Clemson as
not only winning the ASCY, I think they're the clear,
clear favorite to win the conference. I think they are
probably might going to be my pick to win the
national title this year. I think that roster is just
loaded top to bottom. This is a playoff team last year.
It brought back pretty much everyone from that team. They
(07:05):
have incredible depth everywhere they're really isn't a true weakness
on this roster. Maybe running back is the only thing
I would point out right now, but other than that,
they have star power everywhere else on that roster. I
think Clemson right now might be the most housed team
in college football.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
It's quite a show they're putting on down there. And
of course the game Cocks. We'll talk more about them
next time with you, because I agree with you on
Nick Harbor, he's rating ninety nine speed twenty A. He's
six five, two thirty five. I've played with that team.
It's a cheat code. So if Shane Bimber can get
those hands working down there, you might have with Mike Evans.
As you mentioned, Max Chadwick PFF dot com. Go see
(07:41):
them at PFF dot com. I was just there today
looking at grades for some of the Panthers' safeties because
I'm a sicko.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Max, have a great day, man, We'll see you.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Appreciate you guys,
