Speaker 1 (00:00):
And joining us now to talk about the progression of
this product right now on the field is David Cloneger
for the Posting Courier. Welcome back, my friend.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
How you guys are doing.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
We're loving life, doing well. I'm glad that we can
turn the page and not have to be saturated with
political ads for the next two months and beyond good
to be back into the football mode, David. A great
win for the game Cox, a game in which they
really took it to Mike Eltzkow's defense. They ran the
ball effectively, obviously with Rocket Sanders and Sellers had some

(00:30):
nice plays. Just your general takeaways from what was a
bit of a statement win for Shane Beamer's team.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Oh, I mean definitely, color me surprised. Not only did
the game Cox one, but the game Cox won by
that much, and then the fashion that they did it.
You know, I've been watching this offensive line for the
first seven games of USC season, and I just come
to the point like, look, you can't have good offense
if you don't have a good line, and that line
led the nation and sacks giving up. While Rocket Sanders

(00:59):
was performing pretty well, it was because he was going
through contact almost every time he never had an open lane,
and looking at the matchup on paper, it was man
A and M's rush defense is really good and they've
got four guys that are gonna be playing on Sundays.
Up front, this line is not gonna be able to operate.
But somehow they all jelled together. They were able to

(01:19):
open those Russian lanes. They did allow some pressure, but
credit to Leonora Sellers, who was Harry Houdini back there,
getting out of some of those sacks and able to
keep a play alive and all of a sudden you
got a game on your hand, and then to pitch
a shutout in the second half. That was pretty incredible
considering Marcel Reeve's athleticism. So definitely a surprise, a welcome surprise.

(01:42):
And now it's a case like, okay, you've won two
in a row by massive scores on it against SEC teams.
What do you got next?

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Yeah, no kidding, And you know, coach Biemer was nominated
and honored by the Dodge Trophy Coach of the Week
committee there Coach of the Week, so and well earned.
I mean, look, this is been an interesting few years
for Shane. We've had him on this show. I know,
you know coach Bimber quite well down there, and he's
working hard to get that program to that next level.

(02:10):
To that end, the college football playoff rankings were just released.
The game Cocks outside looking in right now, do you
feel like they should have been ranked? Do you feel
like they're a win away against Vanderbilt from being ranked?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Personally, I don't think they should have been ranked because
as well as they have played in two of those
three losses, they still have three losses, you know what
I'm saying. And the fact is that in this year
where you have a team like Army who's undefeated, a
team like Pitt that's undefeated in some of these other
colleges that you might not have fault would have these
great seasons. They are, and you got to rank them

(02:44):
right now. So it's always gonna be tough when you
have three losses to kind of get in that conversation.
It's a credit to them that they're still kind of
bidding for or bidding two get in that conversation. But
if they beat a team who is presently in the
AP ranks. I'm not sure if Andy's in the College
Football rankings, but that will get them more traction. But

(03:05):
the fact is, guys, is that though the rankings are
grade and obviously he's the twelve teen playoff this year,
so that means, okay, if you're in the top fifteen sixteen,
you got a puncher's chance. If USC had been ranked,
they would have been twenty five to twenty four. So
it's one of those, right, Look, don't worry about that.
Just go out and win your next game and see
what you can do.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
I'm going to tell you something. I'm gonna read your
tweet from three days ago. The students stormed the field
and that's going to be a hefty fine and a
bunch of p o groundskeepers going to need some new
hedges in two weeks. But nobody minds, and I would
imagine nobody truly minds. I guess. On on one level,
have you ever seen them hedges ripped up like that?
Down there? Will it be? And on another level, how

(03:44):
great is it to see that environment continue to grow
in stature nationally because it's becoming one of the destination
places to watch a game right now College game Day
on site this year. Just your thoughts on that?

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Oh? Absolutely, you know, Williams Price has always been a
terre the atmosphere if you give them a reason to
show up and hang around. And their credit, they've always
shown up, even when they were zero and eleven and
would go on to lose twenty one straight games. They
showed up. The problem is you got to stay. And
I thought, well, you know, this is going to be
a nuts atmosphere. It's a night game, which means people

(04:17):
been getting looped up in the parking lot since morning.
And that's great. That's part of college football, right. You know,
if you go out there like they have so many
times before and you just get popped in the mouth
or give up a big play early, those fans start leaving. Well,
they didn't because South Carolina was playing well, and that
meant that the fans could be in there and be engaged,

(04:37):
and then they finally got their worth. And a lot
of people are like, oh man, you know, kids, you
should be storming the field, blah blah. Let them storm
in the field in college. Yeah, I did it when
I was in college. You know, basketball and football.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
So you don't get off there. Where did you go
to college?

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Now, I'll keep that off the record, but the fact
is is that you know, the last time they did it,
was Tennessee two years ago.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Yes, and they.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Certainly deserved to after that game. But that game is like, hey,
the hedges got destroyed and so did the field, but
so what, there's not a home game left this time.
It was like, uh, there's a home game in two
weeks against Missouri. So I am happy to report that
they had no problem that they knew they would have
no problem residing the field, getting the field ready, and

(05:26):
if they could get the hedges, they would have no
problem planting them. The problem was is getting the new hedges.
Because it's November. Yeah, right, season is over. I am
happy to report to you though, that they did get
some hedges and they are being implanted planted as we speak. Nice,
so they shall be. They will be ready for Missouri,
and I guess a little less than two weeks now.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Breaking news on the landscaping front from David Klaneger. Here, look,
big matchup coming up. Let's handicap what's ahead for the
game Cocks this weekend with another tough SEC opponent here.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Well, absolutely, I mean this as everybody knows, not your
daddy's Vanderbilt team anymore. These guys are playing well. They
play hard, they play physical, and they know they're already
bow eligible, while you know a lot of other teams,
including South Carolina, are not. So it's a case of
you're running into maybe once in a lifetime Vanderbilt football team,

(06:18):
and you're playing at their place. Now, I'll say that
there's definitely more interest in Vanderbilt from their fans and
from their students. But I still expect it that stadium
to be at least seventy percent Gamecock fans on Saturday night,
So you're going to have that going for you. That said,
Diego Pavia is a wonderful, wonderfully talented quarterback and he

(06:41):
can just make a lot of stuff happen. They love
to have the ball because they can grind out games
with eight or nine minute drives. And South Carolina's defense,
which has been elite this year, they're going to have
to be patient, which is not what they want to do.
They want to get to the quarterback, they want to
sack it, they want to get the ball back, and
I just don't know how many opportunities they're going to
have to do that on Saturday Night. I do expect

(07:03):
South Carolina to win. I expect it to be a
low scoring game. All that said, considering how good Dandy is,
considering that South Carolina has won fifteen in a row
in the series, yeah, and also considering that, well, it
wouldn't be the first time that South Carolina is just
having all this momentum and then comes out and doesn't

(07:23):
play a good game. I do think South Carolina will win.
I would not be surprised if they don't.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Well, we'll see what happens. You can hear that game
right here on one of four nine Fox Sports Up.
Say last question, David. We have two different beats recovering here.
I'm on the Carolina Panthers beat, So hanging there with
me if I sound a little down on the dumps,
although I'll say last week and I'm going to ask
you something personally, Bryce Young played a great game and
a lot of that had to do with a great
Xavier to Lygett, who had just had a tremendous career

(07:52):
down there. Mullins, South Carolina native a notoriously riding dollar Bill.
Did he do that celebration down there with the game Cox?
Is that a new thing? And do you have any
good lagette stories because we're obsessed with the excel.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Absolutely, I mean a wonderful young man, just a wonderful
young man who played his butt off. I mean a
lot of times he was injured during his career, but
last year, as good as a season as he was having,
he still showed up every day, the first one in
the weight room and the last one to leave. He
kept working at it, even though he knew. It's like, hey,
you're a first round draft pick, you better not get hurt.

(08:27):
He's like, that's fine, I'll just do what I can.
But no, he didn't do the celebration in college. You know,
they got rules against those kind of things, unfortunately, boo.
But an Xavier Legett story is that I mentioned that
he was injured some. He had a scooter back when
he was a freshman or a sophomore so he could
get from the dorms to the off campus stadium. Right. Well,

(08:50):
they got in the wreck one day, nothing bad, he
was fine, but that scooter was totaled. And ever since
then around here he has been known as easy writer.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
You see writer. Oh boy, what now does anybody on
the Panthers beat know this that you know of Joe?

Speaker 2 (09:07):
I would hope they would, because I mentioned I know
one of their up there. Yeah, used to be here. Yeah,
I would hope that. But yeah, he's known as easy.
Of course, we're finding more names for him like dollar
Bill and of course the Aspurgus.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Oh man, there, there's no yes.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
I'm so happy to see him having success. I wish
he was, you know, a little bit better football team.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
But maybe well, the future is bright all of a sudden.
Now Bryce Young is playing a little more like an
NFL quarterback. We'll see if they continue to gel as
they're heading to Germany, have exavier walking around Germany.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
That's get that, man.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
I just want to hear him say the word. That's
that's The Panthers social media team has the chance to
do the funniest thing ever this weekend, and they damn
well better do it. David Tonegher posting Courier, you're too kind, man,
thanks for stopping by again.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Man, appreciate it. Guys, thank you.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
